Well, you've read the notes, the notes were discombobulated, and now it is time for you to post until the discomcowulated cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EIDETIC!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Topic of the Day: I have no idea. For most musicals that I've seen, I have almost always already had the record or CD...if I wanted it.
-
...if that sentence made sense. ::)
:)

Oh, my. Slow news day here at HHW. 4 posts at 7:40am!
-
I'm also here all alone. I'm about to wander to the lounge area and do the obvious.

While going through some things this weekend I came across 3 old cassette tapes from 1981, 1982 and 1985. The first from 1981 is my old voice-over reel from when I was trying to break into that end of the biz. I had done it in Minnesota before I moved out to New York. Since I didn't have any of the real radio work I had done the producer and I took ad copy which I recorded (ads for Q-Tips, Chevy and 3 other companies) and he mixed. It's very odd to hear something like that some 20 years later. I sound like a 12-year old! Perhaps I will put the spots on Volume 3 of my BBC Reviews disc. I also found a copy of a "radio drama" demo I had done in 1982. The producers thought it was time for a comeback for 5-minute radio dramas so we made the promo for "Mirror of Life" I played Mark, the son who had just gotten the lead in the college production of "Oklahoma" My girlfriend, Peggy, was cast as Laurie. Again, it was very funny to listen to the tape. There were 5 5-minute episodes about the seemingly perfect family from Clinton Falls. After listening to it in retrospect, I can understand why no producer picked it up. They were hoping to maybe get it on to WNYC (our local public radio station) but, even though it sounds well produced, it would not have had a long life. I also found an "industrial" I made for my current employer, The Foundation Center. I was working there in 1985 as a temp and they asked me to record, with one of the librarians, a how to tape explaining the process of getting a grant. We don't use that tape anymore and I wonder if the FC has a copy. I'm going to pass it on to Communications to see if they want to place a copy in the archives.
Time to wash the bowl.
Later!
-
I didn't run but I did get the soundtrack recordings of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.
-
Very interesting story, DR BEN. The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.
-
vibes for DR SANDRA - and remember when the going gets rough, the Constitution guarantees you the right to Underpants.
-
TOD:
Probably the FIRST movie that made me seek out the soundtrack (as opposed to just being in the store and seeing it, and buying it) was WILD IN THE STREETS.
-
How I spent my Sunday.
Here am I with some fellow PCPH Board Members, and others in charge of the new construction doing the groundbreaking yesterday. 8)

I just noticed I have a rusty spade.

Chore time.

I just noticed I have a rusty spade.
Boy, is that a set-up, DR JRand56!!! :o
When is the new facility scheduled to open?
-
I just noticed I have a rusty spade.
You could probably ask your doctor for an ointment for that.
-
TOD:
I guess, like George, I pretty much have most of the CDs going in. But I do recall enjoying all the music to Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire's Baby in the theater, and waiting eagerly for the album [yes, in those days they still had albums] to be released.
Some people denigrate the book for Baby. I don't have a problem with it - but that score! Every single number is a knockout. And the performances of all of the original cast members were such gems. It's one of those cast albums where I look forward to each and every track.
-
Hmmmm....very quiet here.
-
Very quiet.
-
Crickets.
-
Be very, very quiet. I'm hunting wascawy wabbits.
-
This must be what DR Ben told me about...a frenzy.
-
Not to be confused with the Hitchcock film.
-
I am not worthy!
-
I think I'm starting to hear voices.
-
Must....Not....Panic.
-
I didn't have this nervous tick before I joined HHW!
-
singdaw is dead to me now. From henceforth, call me...Naomi.
-
OK. That was wierd.
Smooches, kids!

Let us not linger on Page 1 and Post 29.
Welcome to Page 2 at 9:03am on Monday, March 12, 2007

TOD:
That's easy--PACIFIC OVERTURES. In fact, I found out with this show that cast albums were not usually available until a couple of months after a show opened (at least back then.) When I finally saw an ad for it appear in the Sunday New York Times, I begged my parents to run out to Korvettes to pick it up. Of course, my mom did not go until a few days later while I was in school. When I came home, she told me that they didn't have it yet. But when I went into my bedroom to get changed, there it was lying on the bed. That mom...
And yes, it did recreate the theatre experience for me. With the exception of "The Lion Dance", I didn't detect any missing music and I was able to re visualize each moment in my head. And I played the thing over and over again for weeks.
I probably didn't chase after a recording again until ANNIE was released a year later.
-
Good morning, all! I hate daylight daving time! My body refuses to acknowledge that 7 AM is 7 AM and not 6 AM, and I am truly disoriented.
Today, I have to finish the charts for Ms Liz Callaway: violins, viola, cello, bass and harp, pay a bill, and - if time - revise a report on BABES IN TOYLAND.
TOD: It wasn't until I moved to NYC that I saw a show often before the cast album was released, and the only show I can think of where I anxiously awaited the recording was BIRDS OF PARADISE. Films were a different matter: I'd leave the theatre ad head directly to Tower Records - or, in Ohio, Peaches - to pick up the soundtrack: MARY POPPINS, GYPSY (my first hearing of the score), THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL, and lot of others. Much as I loved the film of MY FAIR LADY, I could hear that I would still prefer the OBC to the film soundtrack; I don't remember ever buying it.
-
Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. It was a night with one bad dream after another. I can only remember two of them clearly, but I know there were at least four.
-
Sounds like anxiety, DR Laura.
Or maybe you're not getting enough frosting in your diet.
-
Monday morning greetings! I'm at work, but 12 hours ago wouldn't have bet on my being here today. Early yesterday evening I developed a headache that must have been a migraine. Eating dinner didn't help, nor did lying on the couch watching the Grease thing. Sleeping for about an hour right after Grease did make the headache and nausea go away, but interferred with my ability to go to sleep for the night. I'm amazed that I woke up so refreshed today.
-
Good morning everyone, have a wonderful day.
-
I bought the Pacific Overtures record at Korvettes as well, IIRC; the one near Cropsey Avenmue in Brooklyn.
-
Richard E. Grant is one of my favorite actors. And after seeing this clip, in which he inspires Elton John to write an instant song about his oven, I love him even more.
http://snipurl.com/eltonoven
-
TOD: I don't think I've ever seen a musical without having the soundtrack first, except for SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL. But after seeing the show, I tried to find a recording of it and there were none. I hadn't realized until after the show that it is still a work in progress.
After seeing the movie AVALON, I went straight to the record store to get the soundtrack. This is one of my all-time favorite Randy Newman scores.
-
Good morning!
Seems a little overcast right now, but it's supposed to be beautiful this week. Maybe these clouds will pass over later this morning.
-
Easy answer for me on the TOD:
CAMELOT. I saw the national tour with Jeannie Carson and Biff McGuire, was weeping uncontrollably when it was over (a Saturday matinee), and we couldn't get to a store fast enough for me to buy the Broadway cast recording which I played incessantly for the next year.
It happened with a lot of movies, too, where I already had the cast recording but had to have the soundtrack: GYPSY, THE MUSIC MAN, BYE BYE BIRDIE, WEST SIDE STORY.
-
We do have new episodes of OLD CHRISTINE (two back-to-back episodes starting at 8 ) and '24' tonight. At 10, since I won't have HEROES to watch and STUDIO 60 seems gone forever, I'll watch last night's ROME.
-
This afternoon, after I return from lunch with best friend John, I'll watch AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH which I recorded last night.
I also noticed that the 1942 remake of RIO RITA starring Kathryn Grayson and Abbott and Costello is also on the DVR. I've never seen this so that should be fun.
And there is one more LAW & ORDER: CI episode on the DVD in the player now.
-
I'll be interested to read your thoughts on THE RETURN OF MR. MOTO, bk. I skipped over it when I watched MR. MOTO TAKES A VACATION because the movie has such a terrible reputation. SIlva's commentary might be very interesting to listen to, however.

RE: last night's GREASE.

I am happy that the judges did not have a chance to send max home. I know that they say they like him now. But i actually thought that they might have wanted to make sure their danny was more traditional.
As for the girls, i like laura. I really dislike allie (she doesn't ever seem like she's acting to me). And i used to like ashley. Sometimes she's good for me but sometimes she's not.
As for the guys, i was surprised to see chad go. And surprised austin had the lowest votes. I wish that the votes from the public were all that counted. We would have had much different results.
My favorite danny is max. I sort of liked chad. But he had disappointed me a lot in the past few weeks. I don't like derek. And i sort of like austin. But he just seems too polished to me at times. But i can see why he was saved. He has the most experience. And they said he was stronger overall in every area (which i believe).
I do wonder if when america votes we will have laura and max.
Although boo on the producers for not letting us see the chemistry between the dannys and sandys (that is what was written in my tv guide). I really do not see what they could possibly be thinking. They could very well end up with people who are incompatible.

As for last night's TAR.

I'm surprised at how happy people get when the strongest team gets eliminated. It actually made me feel sick. And i would have said that even if they were not one of my favorite teams.
Luckily i was not spoiled by the promos (which apparently gave the ending away). But by the end of the show i really wanted to smack mirna. She is driving me crazy.
I sort of disagree with DR Cillaliz. I don't mind if one task is a bit more difficult. But i don't like it when everyone doing one task finish first. That task was ridiculously easy.
Also i don't like luck being the deciding factor (the letter thing).
Plus the regis and kelly appearance today also in retrospect sort of gave away who would be gone (and that it wouldn't be a non-elim).
I really think allstars is going to suffer immensely because of this. I know i don't even feel like watching anymore and it is my favorite show.
-
Howdy - sound tracks: I gotta say I waited with baited breath (I now have Listerine) for the OCR of Brain From Planet X, from the first read-through way back last year. I was so glad to get a copy, and so glad it sounds so very good.
-
Ok, you people. Tell me if I am imagining something here or not.
I remember in South Pacific that Bloody Mary says "Chinchy bassa" several times. But when I watched the movie, I heard her say "Chinchy stinker." Granted, I kept falling asleep during the movie, but I backed up and didn't see where she said it.
-
DR Ben - I would love to have a copy of your "How to Get a Grant" recording ;)
-
Ginny, you got it! As soon as I transfer it to a CD. I'll burn you a copy. Warning, may cause drowsiness (not of the Chaperone kind) ;)

DR Jennifer, I thought you may not be happy. We have disagreed about this sort of thing in the past and I think we just look at what is a strong team a little differently. Actually the sign task last night wasn't that difficult and Rob and Amber would have had it very quickly if they had spelled "Phillipines" right or if they had checked their spelling before ripping the sign apart and starting over time and time again. The other teams would have done it quickly if they had known their history.
I don't necessarily agree that Rob and Amber were the strongest team. If they were, they wouldn't have come in last. I see TAR as a contest where a huge part of the game is strategy. It's a game where the most physically fit and the youngest aren't necessarily the best players. I like that about it.
I don't like that Rob and Amber got ahead by lying, taking taxis called by other people etc. They didn't play cleanly and that's the reason I cheered when they left.

Discombobulate is one of my favorite words -- one of the cats used it in the cartoons when I was little -- I think Jinx was the one who would say "I'm going to discombobulate you" to the mouse -- little me (similar to mini-me) thought it was a funny word. I still do and often use it to describe myself, too, GM bk. Especially when I get overwhelmed with too many tasks. A lot going on this week and next, so I'm going to be discombobulated -- ALOT!!
Okay, HHWers -- which cat in which cartoon would use discombobulate? Was it Jinx the cat?
-
Good Morning!
Well, so much for getting up early. -Well, at least earlier. When my alarm went off at 8:30, my body and mind both said, in unison, "No way, Jose!", so I went back to bed for a few hours. -And I'm still a bit drowsy, but there are something I must get done today, so...
I'm up.
-
singdaw is dead to me now. From henceforth, call me...Naomi.
Was an operation involved, DR Naomi Dingdaw? Or is the transformation being done merely with clothing?... ;)
-
Soundtracks. That's hard. Up until the last couple years, I don't think I saw more than one or two shows without having the soundtrack first. I guess the one I ran right out to get was RENT. I saw the very first show on the first tour. I knew nothing about it before I went to the theater and I loved it. We left the theater and went from store to store to find the soundtrack.
I think I saw RENT just at the right time in my life to really get into it. I'm not sure I'd have the same reaction to it if I saw it today for the first time. I'm not sure if that says something about me or about the show.
-
DR Jennifer,
I know you are a long time fan of Rod and Amber, but I do not think the show will suffer due to their ouster. I think people who watch THE AMAZING RACE aren't expecting it to be a star vehicle; it's a game and will be exciting no matter who the participants are.
And the ratings haven't been stellar even WITH their participation. And as ratings are down for SURVIVOR as well, I think CBS should seriously consider only one cycle of each of these shows per season now.
-
I actually thought about the way I reacted to RENT during intermission of SPRING AWAKENING. SA doesn't hit home for me, but I can see if I was younger and dealing with different issues that it may have hit me the way RENT did at the time. I will say I haven't seen SA from the audience, so I'm sure it would have been a different experience.

As for the Topic of the Day...
Shows: Sweeney Todd, Passion (although, to be honest, I mainly wanted to buy it since I had a feeling the show would not be running much longer after I had seen it (a couple of times). -And, actually, I remember after seeing the second preview, running - not walking - to Triton Gallery to get the window card, "This is going to be a collector's item." -And it sort of is since the original Dr. Tambouri was replaced later on in the preview process. (And sadly, he died a bit after that.))
Films: "Cinema Paradiso", "Somewhere in Time", "I Am Sam" (love those Beatle's covers), "The History Boys" (I left the theatre, and headed next door to Virgin...)
That's all about that comes to mind now... More later probably..
-
I'm heading down now to clean up for my lunch date.
WBBL.
-
OK... Time for me to head out and do some banking. Then it's back here to deal fill out the forms my insurance company finally sent me last week. -Just five and a half months after the claim was filed... ugh!
-
Oh, that's not the most pleasant way to start a page, so..
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]PAGE THREE DANCE!!![/move]
-
Oh...
Laters...
-
The Music Man was the first musical I just had to have the album for....and it was the soundtrack to the movie, not the original cast recording...
and then in high school everyone in my youth group at church just had to get Jesus Christ Superstar when we saw the touring show in San Antonio
As a little me, I wasn't in the know about original cast recordings -- musical neophyte that I was back then, I just wanted an album with the music so I could listen to it over and over...
So I would have to say that The Brain really is the first show I saw where I eagerly awaited the original, one and only, cast recording...
-
Before I become too discombobulated, I'd better get to deleting some of those tasks from the list that is making me feel so discombobulated....
-
Ginny, you got it! As soon as I transfer it to a CD. I'll burn you a copy. Warning, may cause drowsiness (not of the Chaperone kind) ;)
Thanks, Ben, I'll look forward to it! As for the drowsiness, last year my co-workers teased me for attending a geeky all-day seminar on filling out IRS Form 1023.
-
Sorry I can't stay and do a HHW Frenzy, but maybe Dr Jorge and DR Miss Patti will be back to get us to Post #400 today....that was some two-fer frenzy last night, you two...a bit like the one from DR Cason and DR Dakota a few nights before..bk needs to get you four on at one time and Post #400 would be a done deal...
-
Happy Monday!
It's a terrible allergen/allergy day for yours truly. I'm in misery. Yes, I'm taking something.
I also have the day off as this is the final day or repairs to my ceiling....today is prime and paint day. Priming should being within an hour. Painting should be finished early this afternoon.
Sigh.
-
The weekend was totally inconsequential for me.
And that's cool.
-
I watched "The Robe" on DVD yesterday afternoon. This movie NEEDS a restoration...particularly a cleaning.
The DVD transer I have is not spectacular, visually. It doesn't look like a digital transfer at all, which I'm not certain anyone ever claimed it to be.
-
It's time for coffee....and a scone.
I love my morning coffee.
Scones are nice, too.
-
DR Ron Pulliam, condolences.
Do you know about pollen.com? You can input your zip code and get a localized pollen forecast. But then, your body is already telling you it's a problem, so I guess that doesn't help much.
-
OK. My mind is playing tricks on me. I thought someone earlier in today's topic had mentioned Birds of Paradise. Now I can't find the entry. But it's a wonderful score. One track was used as the background diegetic music in the "roof" scene in the movie Camp.
-
DR Ginny, sorry to hear about your migraine. Glad you're feeling better today. Those can be excruciating!
And, DR DearReaderLaura, my sympathies to you and all DRs who have had bad dreams lately. It seems to be epidemic around here.
**VIBES** to all for sweet dreams.
-
My strange dream the other night was that I kept waking up to see if it was 9 am (the new adjusted time) because Skip had an appointment at 9 a.m. that he had to either get to or postpone.
But this was illogical when I thought about it the next day, since it 9:00 had already come, he would already have been late for his appointment.
-
Gonna be another hot day by the looks of it.
-
I got some needed sleep and am now trying to de-groggify.
-
Good morning dear Esteemed, rested (but off an hour), and svelte BK --
It really is nice, here in AZ, to not have to worry about the whole DST thing. The only problem is, it changes our relationship to other time zones from winter to summer.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
Will we never get to page four?
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm back from the bank... And now to sort through the rest of my mail from last week... Which shouldn't take too long. I hope.
-
And a good morning to our newest "altered" member... DR Naomi ! I hope you are wearing a simple frock that looks good next to your aquarium!
-
-Although, frankly, I'm not really feeling like doing much of anything today... Which is what may end up happening... or not happening as it were. -I want a day off.
-
Hi dear Jose.....you "light up a room" cutie, you! I'm glad you are back home safely, and I'm really tickled about your "surprise" coming to you this week sometime. :) :)
-
(I left the theatre, and headed next door to Virgin...)
DR Jose, you have to stop living in the past!
-
I am playing hooky today due to allergies...man they have been something terrible this weekend...I feel your pain DR Ron P.
I really need to get my home environment de-dusted and cleaned...that will help a lot! But I am too lethargic to do so...but I shall carry on!
-
Hi dear Elmo..... Hi Fred...... Hi Mike B....... I have to go be a little productive for now.
Does everyone still think that they may be home in NYC around the week starting on the 25th of June?? I think I'd like to come visit a few days.
-
OK. My mind is playing tricks on me. I thought someone earlier in today's topic had mentioned Birds of Paradise. Now I can't find the entry. But it's a wonderful score. One track was used as the background diegetic music in the "roof" scene in the movie Camp.
I mentioned BIRDS OF PARADISE. I saw the show during its brief run about six times. Todd Graf, who directed CAMP, was in the original cast of BIRDS OF PARADISE.
I thought of other shows I've seen early in performance and then eagerly awaited the cast album: RENT, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, and ON YOUR TOES.
-
DR Jose, you have to stop living in the past!
In my post, did I say that I was... Well... 'nuff said.
-
And a good morning to our newest "altered" member... DR Naomi ! I hope you are wearing a simple frock that looks good next to your aquarium!
Why thank you, DR MusicGuy! I guess the stress of my first frenzy was just too much.
is the transformation being done merely with clothing?... ;)
DR Miss Karen, I may need to rummage through your costume collection! ;)
-
Hi dear Jose.....you "light up a room" cutie, you! I'm glad you are back home safely, and I'm really tickled about your "surprise" coming to you this week sometime. :) :)
Ooohh.... Well, I look forward to being tickled later in the week. *Now if you'd really like to surprise me, you could send a nice check to my health insurance company. ;)
*Although, from the paperwork that I'm currently looking at and filling out right now, it looks like my stitches will indeed be covered - albeit five months after the fact. Whew!
-
And here I go again starting another page...
How about a

DR JoseSPiano, what happened to you that required stitches? [If it's not too personal]
-
DR Musicguy, my NY trip is on hold until I sort out my finances...if I don't spend too much on this LA trip in April and if I can make some money selling some junk on Ebay then it should be a go!
I was going to attend MONSTER BASH with Laurie Mitchell in Pittsburgh and then pop on over to NY. But the Pittsburgh part of the trip may get cut out entirely....but not sure on that part yet either.
-
A little something to help degrogify our leader.

Right! Thank you. I can't believe I didn't make that connection before...

Does everyone still think that they may be home in NYC around the week starting on the 25th of June?? I think I'd like to come visit a few days.
DR MusicGuy - my DH and I will be in Washington, DC, for the American Library Association annual conference June 23-28 and on June 28 (Thursday) will make our way to NYC, where we will stay until July 2. Will you stay the whole week so we can get together?
-
DR Ginny, sorry to hear about your migraine. Glad you're feeling better today. Those can be excruciating!
...
DR singdaw - thank you! I'm still amazed that I felt like coming to work today.
-
I am intrigued about BIRDS OF PARADISE. I don't recall it at all but it features Donna Murphy. I'm thinking of adding it to my current Amazon order.
-
Good morning, HHW!
Uh-oh, allergies. Vibes to DR RON and DR MBARNUM for allergy relief.
Vibes to DR GINNY for no more migraines.
-
DR SINGDAW,
do note that there's a SEARCH function for the posts. You'll want to use the Advanced Search. Personally, I find it doesn't always give me what I want, but perhaps DR DER BRUCER can help out. I believe he's quite proficient at it.
-
I'm thinking of adding it to my current Amazon order.
I wonder if the folks at Amazon have any idea how many sales are generated as a result of HHW.
-
I thought of other shows I've seen early in performance and then eagerly awaited the cast album: RENT, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, and ON YOUR TOES.
And THE SECRET GARDEN.
-
TTFN. Will try to return later.

Okay, if I were Japanese, female and twenty, this is what my TV show would probably look like: Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YQmkDDCyXQ)

I am intrigued about BIRDS OF PARADISE. I don't recall it at all but it features Donna Murphy. I'm thinking of adding it to my current Amazon order.
It was one of the most intelligent shows I know, written by Winnie Holtzman and based on Chekhov's THE SEAGULL. The musical intelligently but wrongly, made the assumption that the audience already knew THE SEAGULL. The show was about a community theatre in a location like Nantucket, performing a new musical, written by one of their members and based at the Chekhov play. Only a couple of musical numbers from the "new musical" are shown, but the cast temselves are living the plot of THE SEAGULL and don't know it. If the audience didn't know the original Chekhov, then they would miss the source of the musical's plot. Donna Murphy played a character based on Masha, who loved Todd Graf (Konstantin), who loved Crista Moore (Nina), who loved John Cunningham (Trigorin), who was loved by Mary Beth Piel (Arkadina). JK Simmons, who played John Cunningham's brother, was married to a character based on Pauline, played by Barbara Walsh, and Andrew Hill's school teacher, based on Medvedenko, pined for Donna Murphy.
I just looked up the NY Times review: the reviewer missed the Chekhovian plot as well, and he's a drama critic?

DR JoseSPiano, what happened to you that required stitches? [If it's not too personal]
It's not too personal...
I had headed back to my apartment for lunch during a rehearsal for She Loves Me at Arena Stage. I had my lunch, and I started washing my dishes. I was washing a mug when the handle broke off... After a couple of minutes of wondering just how bad the cut was, I went ahead and headed back to rehearsal with my thumb bandaged up - and applying a lot of pressure to it. Once I got to the rehearsal room, I asked my stage manager for some "help". She looked at it, and then called the company manager who drove me to the emergency room. Four stitches, and only about an hour later... It was a deep cut, but a clean one - which was surprising since it was the harp of the (ceramic) mug that cut me. *That was the day of the Redskins vs. Cowboys game, so the ER was quite slow at the time I arrived. All in the timing. -Now as for how busy the ER was after I left and after the game ended...
I was not able to use my thumb for two days - just in time for tech week! -Although, since it was tech week, most of the first day was spent moving into the theatre. And I was actually able to play the rest of the week with my left thumb bandaged up. -Which was a good thing since the conductor did not feel like running the rehearsals.... :-\ but that's another story.
-
TOD - The incident I remember that fits today's topic happened with our DS Rob. When he was quite young (early elementary school?) the local summer youth production was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We knew many of the cast members, including some kids about Rob's age, and he was totally enthralled. We had to go to Border's the next day and buy the CD. I'm hoping he'll come home next week for spring break so I can share The Brain with him.

Egad, DR JoseSPiano! Happy that it wasn't more serious and didn't appear to have any long-lasting effect. Those Russian hands and Roman fingers [ask DR elmore3003] sound, from DR Edisarus' report, like they should be insured by Lloyd's of London.
Glad that your insurance will kick in, though it sometimes seems like managing that process can be a full-time job in itself.
[Aside: She Loves Me is my favorite non-SS show.]

Topic of the Day: I have no idea. For most musicals that I've seen, I have almost always already had the record or CD...if I wanted it.
Ditto - what we said :)
Although, there have been shows where I've seen the show and couldn't wait for the Cast Reocording to come out, Sometimes, it never did :(
-
...it is still a work in progress.
Aren't we all!

Thanks. No, my hands are not insured, but someday...
As for my insurance... I just got some more paperwork from my insurance company in today's mail. Apparently, the initial ER visit is being covered, but the follow-up visit to get the stitches removed is not. Well, at least not the hospital charges (administrative - ?). Now I'm wondering what exactly is going to happen to the doctor's part of the bill. I think I'm going to wait a few more days before I actually make some phone calls since it seems that it just truly took them a long(!) time to process the claim. I suspect some more paperwork is on its way.

Pippin is now a thing of the past. 'Nuff said.
Jekyll and Hyde is now the main focus and so far things are going well. There is also the remainder of Lent and the planning for Easter that's always exciting. In regards to J/H, we're having a good time keeping the show in a Victorian Era - especailly with the sound of the show. Trying to smooth out the pop ballads and maybe do a little re-orchestraiting when it comes to rhythms and things like that. My goal is to keep it in the Victorian era and not transport us to the 1990's with ballads like "This is the Moment" and "In His Eyes" - and the dreaded "Someone Like You" - it will definately be something of a "Phantom Lite" :)
-
Does everyone still think that they may be home in NYC around the week starting on the 25th of June?? I think I'd like to come visit a few days.
We will be here at that time. At this point Mr. Morelli has no summer work lined up so we will be in the city for the summer.

Are you keeping "Dangerous Game"? -Talk about an interesting orchestration. -And all those offstage voices - ??? (Which aren't really indicated anywhere except in the P/C score - at least when I did the show.)

RE: last night's TAR
SPOILERS
DR Cillaliz, i guess we really do see things differently. Because love them or hate them i can't believe anyone would not think romber was the most competitive and strongest team. And i really did not think they got to where they were by lying and cheating.
When you are one of the last two teams, are you supposed to tell them where the route markers are placed. That is ludicrous. And we don't even know for sure that the taxi they took was the one mirna called. I really feel like rob and amber got first place 3 times was because they are hugely competitive. And they work well together.
It's weird but i never let reality shows get to me. Even when rob and amber lost the million last time it didn't really affect me. But last night I just felt so icky after the show was over and even today i do not feel good.
And DR MattH, when i said the show would not do as well without them. I did not mean ratings wise. I think the show will not be as good. We have to listen to mirna rant on. ANd we lose the best team. It was definitely too early for them to go.
-
"Nothing short of brilliant..."
Well, DR CP - we could have told them that! Congratulations on your reviews!!
-
DR SINGDAW the new addition should be ready to go by June 1.
That is the plan.
-
And your favorite SS show might, we presume, be "Springtime for Hitler"?
And one for DR Miss Karen. :)
-
DR SINGDAW the new addition should be ready to go by June 1.
That's ambitious!! Good luck to you.
Also...Congratulations to DR Charles Pogue!
-
I didn't mind Rob and Amber as much this time....but I don't like the idea of ALL STARS on a reality show in the first place.
Mirna and her partner Charla are irritating and I hope they are gone soon, too.
The Amazing Race does depend on skill and strategy - but it is luck, too. Making the right decisions, listening, and asking the right questions.
Romber would have probably been in second or third place if Rob could spell.... I guess I just know too many people like Rob and Amber, with a feeling of entitlement - and I don't deal well with them.
If they were the strongest team, they would still be there. I won't miss Rob's smugness at all.
-
Well............this answers a question for many of us here at HHW.
It was the Ovaltine that our moms made us drink!! :o
-
Oh....DtM - I love your TV show. Good luck with the ratings!

Ah, now it all makes sense. And heaven knows, we could all use a little "morning freshness."

I hope you don't stop watching TAR, DR JENNIFER.
I would guess that someone else will grow on you. I have always liked Uchenna and Joyce.
I didn't watch the first season with Ian and Terry, and they may turn out to be tougher than people think.
Still lots of legs to see!

GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD

Thousands turned out on Saturday for the Roxy’s last gay dance night.
Last Hurrah for a Gay Playground (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/12/nyregion/12roxy.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)
A good number of men on the dance floor went with a bare-chested look. This typically included barbed-wire tattoos encircling their biceps, dog tags around their necks and baseball caps with curved bills, such that a visitor unaware of the event taking place might have thought he had walked onto a set where somebody was reshooting the volleyball scene from “Top Gun.”
An MBarnum production?

RE GREASE.
There was one thing i think i forgot to mention in my recap.
The only interesting thing about the show is to hear the criticism of all the judges. Well for some reason this week they decided to skip that and only let us hear from one judge. What were they thinking????

Will CURTAINS have a sequel called DRAPES?
Instead of an intermission does it have a Valance?
Is it just a suggestion of curtains or is it sheer CURTAINS?
Could CURTAINS supporters be called Rods?

Physicists: Sorry, You Can't Travel Back in Time
Monday , March 12, 2007
By Sara Goudarzi
The urge to hug a departed loved one again or prevent atrocities are among the compelling reasons that keep the notion of time travel alive in the minds of many.
While the idea makes for great fiction, some scientists now say traveling to the past is impossible.
…
To punch a hole into the fabric of space-time, Kaku explained, would require the energy of a star or negative energy, an exotic entity with an energy of less than nothing.
…
"But the basic idea if you're very, very optimistic is that if you fiddle with the wormhole openings, you can make it not only a shortcut from a point in space to another point in space, but a shortcut from one moment in time to another moment in time."
...
"exotic" - Poppycock! I'm sure we all have seen examples of negative energy. (I can spend hours on the coach demonstrating it.)
And this fiddling with wormhole openings should be against the law!
der Brucer

Congratulatons to DR POGUE! What a fine review!

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
-
And this:
-
Will we never get to page four?
Of course.
-
I just remembered a show that I did see before the CD came out. The only time that I went to NYC was in December of 1995 and as soon as we got off the plane and brought all our luggage to the hotel, we walked to the TKTS booth. We all decided on a whim to see Swinging On a Star because someone had heard that it was supposed to be a musical. It was and it was fabulous! The CD hadn't been release and they didn't even have a souvenier booklet. But the moment that I saw that the CD had been released, I had to get it...and I did. I still love that recording. ;D
-
It was cool and breezy throughout the late morning and early afternoon. Cool enough for me to wear a jacket out in the breeze.
Now, there isn't a cloud in the sky and it feels like 70 outside.
-
And:
-
And:
-
And:
-
The annual butterfly exhibit at the Botanical Garden is open!
-
Exquisite photos, DR DearReaderLaura!
-
I remember a show I was wild to have a cast recording for that didn't produce one until years after I saw it - GRAND HOTEL.
In my teens, I ordinarily wouldn't buy cast recordings until I saw a show so I didn't get CABARET or THE HAPPY TIME or GEORGE M! until I saw those shows. But around the time of PROMISES PROMISES, when it was obvious I wasn't going to get in to see the show during its first year or two on the boards, I started buying cast recordings as soon as they came out. Sometimes, of course, I'd have the recordings of shows that after I heard them, I knew I didn't want to see them.
-
This afternoon, I watched the Showtime-HD presentation of the Oscar winning AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. It's a very sobering and somewhat scary documentary. I didn't see the others in the category, of course, but I certainly enjoyed this one.
-
I finished the afternoon with another L&O:CI episode, this one reuniting Dennis Christopher and Paul Dooley as father and son. Yes, they've both aged since BREAKING AWAY (haven't we all?), but they made a really dysfunctional, mesmerizing pair in one of the best episodes from season two of the show.
-
I should have time later today to watch the 1942 RIO RITA before prime time TV begins tonight.
-
singdaw, while one should never say never, no, it's not intended that the DVD of The Brain will ever be for sale. We're going to do a twenty-minute highlights cut down of it for promotional use in hopefully getting other productions. There are just enough technical annoyances and one actor who is so completely out of control (once the show opened he just did what he felt like, despite me berating him for it as well as the faculty speaking to him), that it's not something I'd want to have out there.
-
Jrand, the new book takes place now. I don't think it's a secret that it's a mystery, and the geography has to do with a crime scene.
-
I totally agree! I LOVE this recording! I got the CD (one of the first CDs that I ever bought) when I was going to Western Washington University and the year after I graduated, the theater department put on the show. I went up for a day and visited friends and saw their production. It was quite good.
-
I think BABY is one of the unsung (no pun intended) musicals of all-time. The score is fantastic and the story is something I would think many people could identify with. I got to play Alan in a production a few years ago, and it's one of my fondest theater memories.
-

We will be here at that time. At this point Mr. Morelli has no summer work lined up so we will be in the city for the summer.
Can you stow away on a tramp steamer (not a DR Jose Reference) and visit Oz then.
-
TOTD: I've usually had the CD YEARS before I get a chance to see a production of a show.
With early (for me) Soundtracks - it would have been considerble time before we saved up enough for the luxury. It was a major investment. To buy the Soundtrack of "Carousel" would have taken all of three months pocket money. It probablly would have been a year or more after the seeing the film that we bought the soundtrack. Records in the 1950's were a major money investment. I remember my sister's first pay packet in about 1961 - from which she had to buy train fares, and pay board - was just over twice the price of an LP.
-
Of course I rushed out to buy a copy of the original cast CD of "The Woman in White" to see if there had been anything worthwhile in Act 2. Ok I didn't and there wasn't!
-
More thoughts on TOTD:
I did buy "A Little Night Music" OBC the day after I saw the Australian production.
The Soundtrack of "Bugsy Malone" would have been a within 24 hour purchase.. DP Colin and I named our first dog Bugsy Malone and the second was Talulah
Our current dogs are "Fosca" (Passion) and Sir Magnus after John Le Caré's character in " Perfect Spy
-
JRand-nice photo.
Edi-I enjoyed the Elton John clip. Thanks for the laugh.

DR C.P.- CONGRATULATIONS!

DR Laura, LOVELY!
I’m waiting to hear all about DR Sandra’s first day as a substitute teacher, providing she has the energy to tell us about it.
-
Sherlock had 10 x-rays this morning. There were a few areas of interest so the x-rays will be sent to a radiologist. We should have the report back within a couple of days.
He was given something so she could take so many x-rays. He's is fine, walks okay, is just sleepy. Sleeping is good instead of running around and barking at the workman out back
-
I can't imagine carrying a sleepy Sherlock out of the vet's office to the car! Or getting him into the car!
-
Of course I rushed out to buy a copy of the original cast CD of "The Woman in White" to see if there had been anything worthwhile in Act 2. Ok I didn't and there wasn't!
I suppose you slept through Act Two? :)
-
Will we never get to page eight?
-
I'm just about through addressing packages, only about twelve left, which I'll probably do in the morning.
-
And now, I shall return to writing - I'd love to do another two pages today.
-
The first show I saw where I had to run and get the LP was The Unsinkable Molly Brown.
-
LOL DR Laura. He walked out and Keith lifted him into my car. He does move around just fine, in between long naps.
-
I'm going to try & get out for a walk now. I will have to read Sandra's report later.

I've been watching show after show about cults on The History Channel.
They haven't mentioned HHW yet...
Maybe that should be the subject of Edisaurus' next documentary. A group of people from all around the globe who gather daily to chat at an internet site hosted by an artistic master. You could follow each of the people in their normal(?) lives and then when they are online. Wow! I'm thinking Oscar already!

I took my mom's camera to preschool. I'm putting together the pictures now.

Did another page. One more to go.

Toni was wearing a beautiful leopard-spotted skirt and I just HAD to get a picture of it.

TOD:
I think the only cast album I wanted immediately was THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X...of course it wasn't available at the time I saw the play...but now I have it!
And as for soundtracks, STAR WARS was the first one I bought...and it was just after seeing the film for the first time back in 1977.

Word has it that Betty Hutton has passed away.

Here is one of the two times today that Brody stood still long enough to get a picture. He told me he was making an airplane.
-
I actually thought about the way I reacted to RENT during intermission of SPRING AWAKENING. SA doesn't hit home for me, but I can see if I was younger and dealing with different issues that it may have hit me the way RENT did at the time. I will say I haven't seen SA from the audience, so I'm sure it would have been a different experience.
You mean, since you left the company of SPRING AWAKENING you haven't seen it from the audience.
-
Toni and Kayla hid from me in the tunnel. I found them.
-
And sometimes you record a cast album, and it doesn't come out. :-\
;)
I'm Still waiting with baited breath to hear Keyboard III on that one

And here's an action shot of Kayla running around with my leopard-spotted sweater. She looked like a gazelle on roller skates.

"I'm Taking Mom to the Junior Prom, 'cos She's a Better Twister Than My Sister"
-
The Music Man was the first musical I just had to have the album for....and it was the soundtrack to the movie, not the original cast recording...
and then in high school everyone in my youth group at church just had to get Jesus Christ Superstar when we saw the touring show in San Antonio
As a little me, I wasn't in the know about original cast recordings -- musical neophyte that I was back then, I just wanted an album with the music so I could listen to it over and over...
So I would have to say that The Brain really is the first show I saw where I eagerly awaited the original, one and only, cast recording...
That didn't have anything to do with Boo Key being on the CD?
-
You mean, since you left the company of SPRING AWAKENING you haven't seen it from the audience.
Yes, it was a short, but spectacular career...(Pippin reference)

I was hoping DR Jose would be here...Paul decided not to use my ticket to Man of La Mancha tonight - it's the make-up for the blizzard date. I park in a ramp connected to the theater. to get to it you have to go in the alley where they unload the trucks to set up the stage. I was singing "I am I Don Quixote, the lord of La Mancha, my destiny calls and I go.." as I walked by but no one even noticed...lol

DR JRand. I do collect souvenier programs and magnets. I am a little behind on the programs. I don' t know if Grey Gardens or Spring Awakening have them yet. I didn't buy a magnet for Spring Awakening because it says Totally F#$&ed on it and I didn't want that on my refrigerator

I've done two pages, can't seem to get with it to do another right now - most of that has to do with the fact that the afternoon sun is shining in my face, coming through the window where my laptop is. I'll go sit on the couch like so much fish for a bit, then do the third page.
-
Well, I'm off. Time to fight some windmills...
-
I suppose you slept through Act Two? :)
Walked out on it Matthew! and Yes I'd paid big money.
(I didn't even walk out on "Blood Brothers" - I may have done if I'd had the car keys and din't have to wait for anyone else!)
-
We had Froot Loops for snack. Kayla called them "Floop Loops." I was very proud.

lovely Flutterbye pics DearReader Laura. Thank you as alwaysfor sharing your love of nature's beauty.

Good Evening!
Well... Earlier, I decided to take go ahead and take a nap since I was feeling a little sleepy, so... And three... four...five hours later... Guess I needed the sleep, rest.

DR Cillaliz - Hope you have/had a good time at the theatre tonight. As for whom I know in the cast... Names escape me right now... but later...

DR Sandra - Lovely Pics!

JRand - The only thing I've found on the internet regarding Betty Hutton is this announcement of a retrospective memorial from TCM. :(

Word has it that Betty Hutton has passed away.
Fred, you posted this an hour ago, and still there is no confirmation on CNN, MNBC, or AOL.

I just noticed I have a rusty spade.
"I Have a Rusty Spade."
That's the title of my next folk song.

I watched "The Robe" on DVD yesterday afternoon. This movie NEEDS a restoration...particularly a cleaning....
Considering how old that Robe is, I'd suggest using Woolite.

Congrats, DR Charles Edward Pogue on the review!!
Cute photos of the kids, DR Sandra!!
Lovely photos of the butterflies, DearReaderLaura!!

I guess they are too busy with Anna Nicole Smith to mark the passing of a someone with talent and an actual career.
One of a kind - Miss Betty Hutton.

-
LOL - DR TCB.....Betty's was better.
I love Betty Hutton....and my favorite film moment for her was one of the songs Frank Loesser wrote for THE PERILS OF PAULINE.
It was a ballad with NO jumping around, just lots of heart:
"I Wish I Didn't Love You So....
My love for you should have faded long ago.
I wish I didn't need your kiss.
Why must your kiss
Torture me as long as this?
"I should be smiling by now
With some new tender friend.
Smiling by now
With my heart on the mend...
"But when I try
Something in my heart says 'no.'
You're still there.
I wish I didn't love you so..............."

Word has it that Betty Hutton has passed away.
Just yesterday I was listening to her sing & wondering how she is doing.

I didn't even know there was a series!!!
Too many Betty Hutton/Allison Hayes/and Frances Farmer movies, I guess.

TCM will have a mini tribute on Thursday.

Time for SuperNanny!!!

I had forgotten about THE PERILS OF PAULINE. That was a delightful movie. With Dobie Gillis' father in it.

The first time der Brucer and I went to see Into the Woods, I was humming the melody to "Agony" all the way from the theater to the car.
It would be quite a while before I'd get the OCR, however, because what der B and I had seen was the pre-Broadway run at the Old Globe in San Diego!
It was also one of the few times I've ever seen a show cold. Other than that, I've usually heard the music long before seeing the show.
-
JRand-Thanks for the clip. I still haven’t seen anything on the news.
-
Dinner is going to be a little late tonight. I'm simmering a corned beef brisket, and, well, that takes a while to cook.
Tomorrow, we're having roast turkey breast.
It's so neat, knowing what the great sales are at work!

I'm still a little overtired. I'll eat a sandwich, watch a little something, then take a shower and then try to bang out one more page.
-
Sandra the children are darling. Did you enjoy your day?
I think I did enjoy my day. I'm just tired. Brody takes a lot of energy.
-
Thanks for the book info, MR BK. I am intrigued!
Me either, DR JANE.
My guess, since it is on the TCM - as DR FJL linked - that Robert Osborne as a friend of Betty's was told about it, and he gave us the news.
-
Betty Hutton
-
Love that picture, DR TCB!!!
-
Sandra were you all alone with the children all day?
-
No, I had an aide. She was my brother's preschool teacher back in the day.
-
I think Betty Hutton was fantastic in HERE COME THE WAVES. That and MORGAN’S CREEK are my two favorite B. H. movies. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN wasn’t bad either. :)
-
Sandra-LOL, was that strange?
-
I just noticed that I am wearing one of my ANNE FRANK wife-beater shirts under the sweater that I wore to work today. Somehow, it doesn't look the same on me, as it does on Cason!
-
Sandra-LOL, was that strange?
A little bit. She remembers me from when I was a sprig of a twig of a tad of a lass. She was confused when the kids called me Cassandra. She said, "Isn't your name Sandra?"
I said yes.
She said, " 'Cause I think it used to be."
-
Aww. How nice of Mrs. B to be your aide. I like Mrs. B.
-

So about an hour ago, I heard the door open, feet pounding, and two little girls burst into my bedroom. Amazing how they got by DS like that so fast.
After they chased Joshie under the couch and pounded on the piano a while, I got them into the wagon for a walk.

Proboscis is a word that EVERYONE should know.
It is not used enough. I say that proboscis should enter the lexicon and be used in place of any other noun.
For example:
A Proboscis Named Desire
Annie Get Your Proboscis
The Proboscis of the Opera
And of course the lyrics of "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off:"
You say proboscis and I say proboskus.....

Good Evening!
And my day of lethargy continues... :-\
I think a part of my fatigue comes from the cold or whatever I've been fighting since last Wednesday. While I was in Atlanta, I was dealing with some sinus stuff and minor chest congestion. And now that I've actually had a day off, it's decided to runs its course. I'm generally feeling OK, just a bit tired, and my throat is a little sore from the coughing. I suspect I'll be heading to bed early tonight in order to be fully rested - and recovered, hopefully - for tomorrrow's rehearsal.
-
Thankfully, I still had a box of Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat Tea in the cupboard. Very soothing.

No. I did however read on another site on a blurb on GREASE: YTOTIW that the fashion-challenged Ms Marshall is a friend of Austin's "roommate" and has all but promised him the role.

Well, it's time for me to leave and go to my sister's...maybe. I'll call to see if she needs me to come over. Fortunately, my DVR is set to record tonight's CBS comedies, so I don't have to rush home first. Have a good evening (or night), all!

We will be here at that time. At this point Mr. Morelli has no summer work lined up so we will be in the city for the summer.
Is your Mr. Morelli any relation to the Morelli who confessed to committing the crime attributed to Sacco and Vanzetti?

I have been told some news and, as always, I want you to be the first to know - the Creature soundtrack will be announced by the end of next week. It will not be on Kritzerland - it's on a soundtrack label and it will be a limited edition of 1000 copies. I haven't decided and/or ascertained whether I'll sell it on Kritzerland's website, but right now I'm sort of doubting it. If I don't, you will all be the first to know where to order it from and when.
I've been proofing the notes and packaging and it really looks great. I wrote all new notes covering the entire history of the film, and there are lots of never-before-revealed details included. The CD itself is jammed with stuff - the entire score as heard in the original version of the film, alternate tracks, alternate Creature vocal, demos of two of the songs, sing-along Karaoke versions of the songs, and four minutes of Broderick Crawford doing lines that never ended up in the film.
-
Ok, you people.
You were not imagining it. Stinker was a substitute for bastard (bassa) the times being what they were.
Was the Hayes office still running things back then?

Any of the music score by you in this version or just the songs?
The score is by David Spear - I never wrote any dramatic music for the film, just the songs. It's the entire score, plus the songs, plus the incredibly rare (and thought lost) alternate Creature vocal, which is completely different to the one used in the film, plus the never-before-heard demos - it's really fun!

Sounds like the "Chicken Popsicles" some high-concept tapas places are featuring. -It's still a Buffalo Wing to me! Although, this Pork Shank Popsicle could also be a relative to the Filipino crispy pata - which is a deep-fried pork leg. You end up with crispy skin (basically chicharron) and some very tender morsels of pork underneath.

My godmother's Filipino restaurant in Arlington, VA, features crispy pata on the weekends. I didn't think I would like it the first time I tried it, but once I realized it was basically chicharron, fried pork rinds (which I like), I dug in! -It's usually served with peppered vinegar on the side to help cut the unctuousness of the pork fat.

My mother is watching gentleman prefer blondes in the other room and laughing ALOT

I watched the 1942 RIO RITA this evening. I have to admit that Abbott and Costello have some very funny bits in the film, and I much preferred this to their MGM film A&C IN HOLLYWOOD. John Carroll is handsome personified, and how great to see so many wonderful character actors around: Tom Conway, Barry Nelson, Peter Whitney. And, of course, Kathryn Grayson had to stop the movie cold with one of her "notes above the staff" arias that she did a lot of in the 1940s.
-
CBS had two new episodes of OLD CHRISTINE on display tonight. The first guest starred MAtt Letscher, returning in the role of Burton, one of CHristine's disastrous boy friends whom she connects with again. Funny episode.
-
The other concerned Christine connecting with her ex-husband's brother who comes out to her as gay. He wants it kept quiet until he can tell his brother in his own way, but, knowing Christine, she can't keep her mouth shut.
-
'24' had an exciting episode but one that gave star Kiefer Sutherlan something of a respite while other characters carried the burder of this particular hour. Jean Smart was back as the former First Lady, and there were surprises galore during the hour, though the biggest one seemed telegraphed pretty obviously to me.
-
I'm home from La Mancha. It was ok. We had an understudy for Cervantes/Quixote. It was a make up performance, so maybe that's why, but a couple seasons ago we seemed to have understudies a lot and a lot of people were very disgusted. Some didn't renew their season tickets. Even though we pay the same as people in other cities, it feels like we aren't considered to be important enough to get the "real" leads.
My bigger pet peeve is that we have a theater with fabulous acoustics, yet everyone has their mics and it's all mixed and comes out through speakers on the sides of the stage. I much prefer real sound. I just don't get as taken in from the sound in a box. On the other hand, I heard some older ladies who were so pleased because they could hear every word. so ...
-
Oh and Aldonza hit some bad notes during "It's All the Same" But other than that. The set was fabulous, and all in all it was still an enjoyable evening at the theater
-
I read that David Hyde Pierce is on Letterman tonight, but my cable listing doesn't include him so we'll see.
-
I finished the evening watching last night's ROME which introduced us to Livia, soon to be Augustus' new wife, and the discovery of Antony's cheating on Octavius' sister with Octavius' mother and his eventual banishment to Egypt.
Only two episodes left, and, of course, we pretty much know historically what happens. What keeps it interesting is seeing how the fictional Vorenus and Pullo are placed among these historical characters. Certainly going to miss the gorgeous Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, and James Purefoy once this show ends. At least Kevin has a pilot for a series next season.
-
I should say the understudy, Jonathan Baldwin, did a very good job. I don't mean to belittle him, but it's just the point that once in awhile it would be nice to get the people starring on tour.
-
In the mail today was the Literary Classics Collection box of DVD, and I'll probably start with THE THREE MUSKETEERS tomorrow.
-
Never mind, it wasn't on Letterman it was on Conan O'Brien...the man who looks like my boss. Too late for me
-
I hope I'm more with this time change tomorrow. My early rehearsal has been rescheduled, so that's good. I did write another half-page, and will probably do the other half before writing Ye Olde Notes. Now it's probably too late for a DVD.
-
I'm heading downstairs for bed now.
Good night!
-
Something that goes on with understudies in NYC is that an actor will have a 7-perf. week in his or her contract, and could choose which one he or she was going to miss almost at random. That way, the result is that audiences won't be avoiding a specific performance every week, and will be surprised when they get to the theater. And many people of course choose to stay rather than demand a refund since they're already there. (At least at some shows, like Jersey Boys, they've simply made it clear that John Lloyd Young doesn't do Wed and Sat matinees - which seems like a more fair approach to the audience.)
-
We must get to page 13 before I go to sleep

Not sure why, but it just feels like the right thing to do

How did I miss all that swag? (You can keep the moonpies, though. Did any of them end up "in eclipse?)
-
I have no idea what any of that means, but I think it scans right :)
-
Cillaliz-Glad the performance was fun.
When I saw Phantom the Christine was an understudy, and talented, but she must have been at least 40! Took some of the charm out of the role.
-
edi, go home...;)
I'm kind of bummed, because I planned to work on The Brain.
I edited for 15 hours, which I shall now think of as doing a Jose, after witnessing his relentless piano work!
-
I think JRand's analysis of the above parody would suggest that "page 13" is really "age 13" and that a number of my friends had crushes on Bert Convy in those days.
-

I guess what gets me is for a lot of shows, we only have one performance. So when time after time you get understudies, you really feel a bit ripped off and like they don't consider us a serious audience or something even though here in the boonies people will drive over 100 miles, take off work, get a hotel room etc just to see a touring show. When a show is here for a week like Mama Mia, Les Miserables etc That's different. You expect that there will be perforamances with understudies.

TOD: When i was a very mall girl My first musical was OKLAHOMA!, and it is still my favorite musical today. My grandma introduced me to it and we would sing the songs all day, and i would watch it repeatedly at her house. One day I was lookoing though cabinets (one of my favorite childhood pastimes) and found that she had the record version of it. (yes, records were in use!).
I STOLE it! My grandmother said I could have it when she ound out later that day.
My father got so annoyed with the record after the 100th time I played it he drove me back and made me give it back. :(

Last Saturday, I happened to pick up four bound volumes of Films In Review, a magazine I used to have a complete collection of. I probably still have some in storage (I have no idea WHAT I have in storage anymore). The bound volumes were for years 1954 and 1955, 1963 and 1965. I've been going through them and it is fascinating to read contemporary reviews of films we now think of as classics and also to read some rave reviews from film that we generally think of as dogs. The film music columns are most interesting, and would infuriate people reading them today.
But, most interesting of all was one particular fellow who reviewed several films in the 1954 issues. I was actually shocked when I saw the byline. I will reveal who it is in the notes - I will only say that the person has gone on to incredible acclaim.

Well, I guess we did okay.
The review in The Lexington Herald- Leader thought the "TARTUFFE performances stellar"...
About me specifically:
"And Charles Edward Pogue as the Tartuffe-enamored Orgon is nothing short of brilliant.
"Perhaps his intimate relationship with the text helps him on this front, for in addition to acting in the production,Pogue penned the adaptation of this Moliere classic.
"Pogue's language sparkles with color and is ripe with crisp cleverness, making versatile leaps from theological discourse to the basest of juicy double entendre. The ensemble cast proves more than up to the task of its delivery."
"...a fantastic cast and a first-rate adaptation..."
Congrats!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

In 1951 (seven years before SP) the Hayes code was made even stricter, particulary in regards to language.! It was dropped in 1967.

We the voters have nothing to say about anything, frankly. They do what they want and people go along like shropshire sheep. Anyone who voted for this (and I doubt anyone KNEW they were voting for something this stupid) should be strung up by their thumbs.

Will we never get to page fourteen?

I assure you the Congressmen were very aware for what they were voting, and their was considerable discussion of the issue. Many politically active people, myself included, think it was a very good idea! City dwelling parents of young children were particularly anxious DST be extended past Halloween. There was also considerable coverage in the Press.
If the people were unaware, it was self imposed ignorance!

I am seeing my grandma later this week, I will ask if you wish, but I was only 7 or so at the time so I do not really remember, and the record is now long gone, sold when she moved.

Why don't they just make it daylight savings time all the year round? You know, somehow we all got on fine with it the way it was. For decades and decades. Children were fine. Parents were fine. The world was fine. We didn't all die because it got dark at five. And I'm sorry - Halloween in the light is just plain dopey.
-
Time is unimportant..we live within ourselves, why let a piece of machinery run our lives?
-
That is what I will tell my boss when I am late to work o.0

Great news!

A. In 2001 CA did request federal permission to go on year-round DST (9/11 events overcame that action)
B. We have changed DST about every 10-20 years:
1945
1966
1973
1975
1986
2006
C. DST is not mandatory, a locality can opt-out; all the Feds require is that IF you have DST, these on the start-stop times.
