Title: WRITTEN ON THE WIND
Post by: bk on March 15, 2007, 01:33:19 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written both like and on the wind, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they've certainly been gone with the wind.

I ate something interesting whilst writing the notes - a Klondike bar, but not an ordinary Klondike bar - no, this was a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Klondike bar.  Not great, but not bad.  Perhaps I'll eat another right now.

I'm a tea drinker mostly.  I do not however drink teabag tea if I can avoid it. At home it is always leaf tea - I have a preference for Orange Peko as a variety but also like Assam and Breakfast teas.

I drink coffee - black or with milk - with or without sugar. I do not care for "flavoured" coffees. It seems pointless to me!

At times I enjoy an "infusion" such as chamomile.

I do enjoy red wines if "smooth" and white wines if not sweet. I do not care for spirits and think liqueurs should be used as paint strippers.  A glass of port is enjoyable at times.

I saw Prelude to a Kiss last night. Although it was not as wonderful as the original Off-Broadway production, it's still a lovely, touching and, IMHO, beautiful piece. It's very well done. John Mahoney has a great moment in the second act with a monologue about moving from youth to age and finally passing away. I don't think the show is selling well since it's on TDF all the time. Oh, well. I'm very glad I got to see it.

I was overall happy with the bottom 2. Although i wish sanjaya had gone home. I am afraid though that this was our chance to get him out. I think his supporters thought he was safe. And now they will vote for him more.

It was interesting how Idol tricked us. Didn't you all think it would be haley in the bottom 3? Even though we all sanjaya is bad and it seemed obvious it SHOULD be him. I thought he would be safe.

It is interesting to see that the bottom 3 were all guys.

And i agree i like phil.

I was surprised that Chris S is so popular. I mean i knew that he was popular but i thought his sucky performance would put him in the B3.

Good morning, all!  I would like to see PRELUDE TO A KISS, but I first want to see JOURNEY'S END.  Today, I have a trek to Toyland, and then a jaunt to the NYPL music collection to look at the new University of Chicago volumes from the new Rossini and Verdi editions and the new Kurt Weill Edition.  That should while away part of my afternoon.  I've been waiting for some legal forms to arrive from the attorney, and if they arrive I have a trip to the post office to send the signed copies back, and that should be the extent of my day.

TOD:  I prefer diet ginger ale with a bit of cranberry juice, and I drink 2-4 cups of coffee in the morning with a bit of honey and a lot of milk.  I detest both flavor and smell of "flavored" coffees.  I like a Starbucks cafe latte and I think Dunkin Donuts has great coffee.

Like some others here, I neither drink, nor drink coffee or tea.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I basically like anything with an umbrella in it.  And, sadly, the sweeter the better.  However, my favorite semi-exotic drink is a Dark & Stormy, but only if it's made properly with Jamaican Rum and Ginger Beer - not Ginger Ale, it really needs that kick and bite from a good dose of ginger that's found in Ginger Beer (which is non-alcoholic itself).  i went through a Long Island Iced Tea phase a couple of years ago... And then there was the Baltimore Zoo (which was served with a sidecar of beer)... And there was one place I went to that used to serve New Orleans Iced Tea - those were quite good, and I could never quite pinpoint what was in it, but maybe that was the point.

As for coffees...  I don't drink it regularly, but I have found myself lately drinking it more often.  Flavored coffees are OK, but I usually go for a mocha so that I can get a partial chocolate fix at the same time.

As for teas... Lots of green teas.  And Stash makes an amazing Blueberry Tisane, as well as a Licorice One too that I like.

BK - Did you at least like the "soundtrack" the director picked out for Cuttin' Up?  ;)

-From your report, it sounds like that not much work was done on the piece since it premiered in DC a few years ago.  It felt like a slightly too long evening back then too.  And since some of those stories came from D.C. barber shops, editing some of them down was a bit "tricky" from what I remember.  But I do have to give Charles some cred for keeping his work out there.  -I'm just wondering if anything is still happening with Senor Discretion Himself?  -He directed the latest incarnation at Arena.  I know Pasadena was looking at it, but I believe it was dropped from their schedule.

Although there is a core of people who love the show, I wholeheartedly nominate the entire dreadful (IMHO) production of Company, currently running on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. It is directorial conceit at the highest level. I can't single out a number, everything has been twisted and attacked to fit the director's idea.

For you coffee drinkers in case you haven't heard, Starbucks    (http://www.starbucks.com/ourcoffees/coffee_break.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1) is giving away a free 12 oz cup of coffee today between 10:00 am and noon.

What I mean is, they are not giving a cup of coffee away--I'm sure that means one cup per person.

DR SINGDAW - there is NO play or musical that cannot be ruined by a wrongheaded director and/or choreographer.  Usually said play or musical stars or features a relative or "friend" of said director or choreographer.

I think I would like to add my own "touch" to the YouTube "Rose's Turn"--a huge shadow of a woman projected on the upstage wall (a la Charlemagne in PIPPIN) to give Rose the impetus to start stuttering "Ma-ma-mama!  Ma-ma-ma-ma-mama!"

Either that, or a woman who flies across the stage like Fruma Sarah to achieve the same effect.

I have not yet developed a taste for Coffee, Tea or liquor, and I am not sure I would ever like too. Artificial uppers do not appeal to me,and I do not like the taste. I think people ( like my friends) who need to have their grande coffee with a double expresso shot or iced chocolate mocha on a beautiful sunny afternoon for 3.50 a drink need to seriously re-evaluate their lives. But thats just me...

3.50 a day for 5 years is $6,387.50....and that does not include all the other drinks consumed by the avarage college student.

Good morning!

We're going to have a somewhat cooler day today than yesterday, and then the rain moves in tonight for a day or two. Oh, well, these spring temperatures are really nice. I'm sitting in my office right now with the window open right next to me, and the fresh air is wonderful.

Just read in USA TODAY that TCM will be showing three Betty Hutton films in honor of her this afternoon: THE STORK CLUB (which I've never seen), THE PERILS OF PAULINE (a public domain film now; I hope the TCM version looks decent so I can burn a DVD-R of it), and THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (ugh!)

I'm not much of an alcohol drinker either, but if I have it as a social drink, I prefer something sweet: Tom Collins, margarita, hurricane, daiquari.

If I go to a dinner and wine is served, I can usually drink a glass of it, but that's it.

I much prefer diet sodas, preferably Pepsi One if it can be found. That's what I'm drinking right now.

In addition to the new shows starting tonight (RAINES which I'll watch and OCTOBER ROAD which I won't), most shows are presenting new episodes tonight:

UGLY BETTY
the NBC comedies
GREY'S ANATOMY
SMALLVILLE
SUPERNATURAL

Back to another FULL evening of TV.

TOD -

My name is Ginny (Hello, Ginny) and I'm a coffee addict.

From my first cup in the American Airlines waiting area at LaGuardia in 1967, I've been a morning coffee drinker.  At first, I drank it with sugar, but when sugar prices went up in the early '70s, I went to black.  Most flavored coffees appeal more to my nose than to my taste buds.  Also like iced coffee with milk, but learned the hard way that powdered creamers do not work in iced drinks  :P.  As for the fou-fou Starbucks-type confections, I take mine nonfat - vanilla latte, pumpkin spice latte in autumn, and gingerbread latte around Christmas.  No whipped cream, usually.

I think having three guys in the bottom three last night was a clear indication of where the talent lies with this edition of AMERICAN IDOL. The guys just don't have it though I find Phil better than he's been given credit for being, and certainly understand the appeal of Blake's and Chris Richardson's looks and potential marketability. I know that IDOL always keeps that in mind; how else to explain how some of these folks got into the semifinals.

Last night's "Idol" Eviction:

SPOILER

I didn't see Brandon as one who would leave first, but he's certainly in the bottom of the mix for me and I feel no remorse over his departure.  Neither he nor Sanjaya should have made the final cut, IMO.  Sabrina should still be there and so should A.J.

That said, Sanjaya obviously has voters more interested in his survival on the show than they are in the goals of the show (finding the best singer) or what's good for Sanjaya (how much longer can his mincing about the stage and singing in a whispery, Wacko-Jacko voice avoid drawing screams derision?)

He's being made a fool of by the voters.  I'm certain he and his family aren't seeing it in that light...yet.  But how can he feel he belongs on that stage?  THAT is what is beyond me.

RE: last night's IDOL results.

SPOILERS.

I was overall happy with the bottom 2. Although i wish sanjaya had gone home. I am afraid though that this was our chance to get him out. I think his supporters thought he was safe. And now they will vote for him more.

I was surprised that Chris S is so popular. I mean i knew that he was popular but i thought his sucky performance would put him in the B3.

Chris' "sucky performance"?  Aside from the fact that he has the best voice among ALL the males, his performance was, to me, the LEAST "sucky" of all the men.

Sanjaya was a mincing fool; Blake was anything but good in that twitching, embarrassingly performed song. His vocals were, bar none, the weakest of the night, IMO...even compared to Sanjaya's wacko-jacko impersonation. Chris Richardson's vocals were on a par with Blake's...sadly lacking in range and projection.

Apart from Phil and Chris Sligh, the men are the bottom of the pile and very expendable in this SINGING COMPETITION.

The sooner America starts voting for talent rather than potential "dates", the sooner this competition will take on some credibility.

On the subject of coffee, an oldie but goodie about Miss Sylvia Miles:  A possibly apocryphal story had a French waiter asking "How would you like your coffee, Miss Miles?" She supposedly responded "Well, I like my coffee like I like my men." The waiter reportedly said, with full French accent, "I'm very sorry, Miss Miles, but we don't have any gay coffee."

Good morning all and assorted lovelies, studlys, nymphs, and sprites!  (That should certainly be all-inclusive!)

I finally got a peak at this "Sanjaya" character yesterday on some TV "entertainment type" program.  As I don't watch AI, I had never seen the lad.  In the immortal words of Chandler Bing's girlfriend.....
.......OH.........MY..........GOD !!!

It really is unbelievable, and then about 10 seconds into the clip, in my mind I heard the unmistakable voice of dear Elmore saying.... "if he were any more effeminate, he'd ovulate!"

That is one of my 2 very favorite new sayings of this year... with the other being, (of course.........and in unison everyone...)

"Oh Arthur, you've eaten more meat than anyone else in this room."

And a good morning to the pixie-like DR Miss Karen (it must be where boo-key got that trait!)

Actually, this time of year, those heat numbers don't mean much because it is nice and mild in the morning, the "peak heat" doesn't happen until around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, and then the late afternoon is already cooled down some and the evening is very mild.  It really is one of the prettiest times of year here.

Why are there 935 registered users of this forum?  Almost every day, some new "impossible-to-pronounce" name is at the top of the first page as a "new user."

We have less than a tenth of the registered users posting anything at all.  More than 800 have NEVER posted a thing.

This is very, very odd.

We've explained this several times - it has to do with the way Mr. Bakalor set up the software - when the notes are posted it sends out "pings" to other sites - I don't know what that means, but I've never liked the sound of it.  So, apparently places that are getting pinged are having people register here all the time - I don't get it, frankly, and I find it ridiculous, but I don't think there's anything to be done about it at this point.  Interestingly, it only really started happening in the last eight months.

A Little Night Music, re-imagined as a slapstick comedy.

The Liebeslieders all all equipped with whoopie cushions, and use them - at the most devastating of moments.

Each scene ends with Desiree getting a pie in the punim.

The duet for Anne and Charlotte becomes Every Day a Little Laugh.

The Miller's Son becomes The Farmer's Daughter.

And as for Send in the Clowns...well, let's just say this: it involves a teeny car and a lot of little red noses...

The first act of The Apple Tree produced by Focus on the Family and directed by James Dobson. All musical numbers must conform to the Book of Genesis or they are re-written or cut out of the show.

I was looking at the tours through Portland this summer and LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA will be here...I wonder if it would be entertaining to a 5 year old who loves dancing?

Also, CHICAGO is coming through once again. I saw it last year when it featured Tom Wopat...this year it seems to feature Tony Hadley who was the lead singer of my favorite 1980s pop group SPANDAU BALLET...if indeed he will be in it I may have to see it again.

Piazza has almost next to no dancing, so... And it's also pretty heady and adult subject matter too.  So, I'd suggest that you see it - and the touring cast is quite wonderful - but it's most definitely not appropriate for a five-year old, whether or not she loves dancing.

And looking at Tony Hadley's website I see he is doing the England tour of CHICAGO...so the CHICAGO website seems to be a bit confusing on who is playing who and where.

Okay, let's have more bad directorial touches in musical plays.  Let us imagine a director/choreographer with a "vision" and let's imagine what they would do to some classic musicals and  musical numbers - sort of a what if.

Well, we've already had two John Doyle abortions of two glorious Sondheim shows.

I always feel a revival by Susaqn Shulman, after her less-than-glorious SOUND OF MUSIC and TEENEY TODD, is a sure sign of a flop.

The sooner America starts voting for talent rather than potential "dates", the sooner this competition will take on some credibility.

I suspect the voting has a particular bias - it is (almost) self evident the the next American Idol will be one of the top three women - so the quick-thumbed teeney-boppers can have some fun bouncing around the guys 'till the show gets down to business.

Next Thursday we will indulge and go see Johnny Guitar at Chelsea Cinemas (where dreams come true, hosted by the lovely Hedda Lettuce). It's only $6.50 and you get a floor show and a chance to win door prizes. It's at 7pm. What more could you ask for???

For those of you unfamiliar with Johnny Guitar here is the description from Chelsea Cinemas Web site:

THURSDAY, March 22nd 7pm

Johnny Guitar (1954)

Women strap on six-guns in Nicholas Ray’s gender-bending western. A guitar-playing loner Johnny "Guitar" Logan (Sterling Hayden) wanders into a small town feud between lovelorn saloon owner Vienna (Joan Crawford) and Emma Small (Mercedes McCambridge), the town's resident lynch mobleading harpy. This fascinating cult favorite has had film theorists arguing for decades: is it a parody, a political McCarthy-era allegory, or Freudian exercise? The off-screen battles of the two female stars are equally legendary.

Directed by: Nicholas Ray
Genre: Western
Running Time: 110 min

For some reason i thought it was supposed to be a cross between MEDIUM and GHOST WHISPERER.  But apparently he has no psychic ability at all.  He merely has hallucinations.  Although i'm curious if these hallucination reveals turn out to have some sort of accurate information.

I don't think i'll watch today. But i think it's repeated tomorrow (it will be on fridays). So i may catch it then.

I think i will try the ABC one, OCTOBER ROAD. Sounds more like my cup of tea.

I normally like Chris S. a lot.  But i thought the way he changed his song was quite bad. And I thought that coupled with the judges harsh comments might land him in trouble.

And these are only your opinions.  I happened to love blake's arrangement. And thought he was very good on tuesday.  He is the most original interesting performer to me.

I agree that the major talent is lakisha and melinda.  But i had a strong feeling the guys were going to be at the bottom (as the girls were getting twice the amount of votes as the guys).

I would be curious to know how haley fit into the mix. Because i thought she was probably the weakest of the women.  And actually there are a few women i am not crazy about.  And a few guys i am crazy about.

Btw, here is that site that encourages people to vote for the worst. It's quite funny:

Speaking of cheap European hotels, there was this little mom and pop hotel I stayed in once in Padua, Italy. They had the MOST WONDERFUL hot chocolate!!! It was like liquid fudge! Oh, my!! I've NEVER tasted anything like it before or since. But, of course, there was NO hot water in the shower--only icy cold. This California girl had to wash her hair in ice cold water for the first time. Brrr! I still truly appreciate hot water.

As for "America's Next Top Model"...

That poor girl who had her new hair-do "reversed" after already sitting in the chair for eight hours... Ouch!  However, the photos taken after the makeover were quite nice, but I didn't really dig the "candy" photos.

I like this show!

At least by Tyra making fun of them we didn't get as much whining as usual.

I do think that going from long hair to having to cut it all off is quite cruel.

But the worst has to be those hair weaves. Are you telling me that there was no hairstyle they could have possibly done with the same length of hair???

And do these things ever stop hurting? I can see if it hurts while it's being done. But that girl said it was killing days later. I would not be able to deal with that.

The house special I used to serve after-dinner:

VELVET HAMMER

A tall glass concoction of Brandy, Creme de Cocoa, Grand Marnier and softened Vanilla Ice Cream, served with fresh grated nutmeg on top.

I once had a Velvet Hammer in a St. Petersburg FL establishment, circa 1970.  Any time I asked for one in other places, no one knew how to make 'em.

I really liked it and was glad that kate/sayid/locke finally made it to The Others camp by the end.  I've enjoyed their trek very much. But i want to find out what happened with jack.

And yes that ending was pretty surprising. I definitely liked it. Although no previews for me. That decision has worked out very well spoiler wise.

I wonder if jack is either a) brainwashed or b) pretending to blend in so he can the upperhand.

Regardless the look on kate's face was priceless.

I thought locke throwing the eye patch guy over the sensor was quite jarring.  ANd surprising.  Not sure why locke did that. Maybe it was because of what eye patch guy had been about to tell the group before he was interupted. I had just assumed he was going to say that john had been in a wheelchair.

It was interesting to see claire with dark hair. My gosh she looks so much better as a blonde.

DR MATT - my Lucy-Desi hasn't arrived.  But may I suggest the Tallulah Bankhead OR Danny Thomas episodes!

I'll comment more on them in a minute, but I decided I'd watch them from beginning to end and not scramble up the sequence, to get more of an idea of what audiences at the time got to see.

I certainly agree about THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA not being appropriate for a five year old. I think she'd be bored stiff. It's very much adult stuff, and I'm sure all the Italian scenes done in Italian would quickly confuse her.

Although, when David Burnham takes off his shirt.... I'm pretty sure DR MBarnum would like that.  *And since David has a nicer body that Matthew Morrison, and since the tour is staged for a proscenium house, there's more "flesh time" as it were.  ;)

A propos yesterday's nefarious Gypsy clip, so courteously provided by DR Ben...

What other classic stage numbers have you seen abused by a directorial conceit gone awry?

This isn't so much a number gone awry, but a whole show gone horribly wrong.  Former DR Jenny posted THIS (http://www.haineshisway.com/community/index.php?board=11;action=display;threadid=186;start=msg28634#msg28634) story about her experience in a production of The Sound of Music (I've reposted this a couple of times, but it deserves to be repeated...again ;)):

Quote
I was in a production of "The Sound Of Music" at a Long Island performing arts camp.  I was thrilled to be cast as Mother Abyss (Very unconventional casting, if you ask me.  My last name is Weinbloom!  I don't make a very convincing Catholic.), and it seemed from fairly early on that this would be a very good production.  Two weeks before we were supposed to open, the head of the theatre department came into our rehearsal studio to tell the cast that the very Jewish philanthropists of the camp had complained that nice Jewish girls were being "forced" to play nuns (No mention of the little Jewish boys who were playing Nazis!).  Our director, in all his brilliance, came up with a 'logical' solution for this problem: Get rid of the nuns.  Of course, the entire cast was outraged, but especially the poor nuns who not only were losing valuable stage time but also their one chance to act like shiksas!  When I asked the director why the philanthropists were so upset, he simply said "Well, the Catholics have done some terrible things to the Jews over the years..."  And the Nazis haven't?!  With each passing day, different aspects of our characters and the show in general were stripped away.  First, we were told that we wouldn't be allowed to cross ourselves.  Eventually, we also lost the right to kneel or hold our hands in a religious manner.  When we got our costumes, they were simple black dresses.  No habits, no crosses, nothing remotely religious.  Instead of referring to Maria's home in the begining of the show as the "Abby", we were forced to call it the "School".  Two days before the show, we were asked not to sing the opening in Latin, but rather on a simple "Lalala".  On the final cast list that was put in the program, the nun ensemble was referred to as "Singing Spiritual Women".

It was very, very sad.

I began my Lucy-Desi experience with the Havana themed episode loaded with guest stars: Ann Sothern, Rudy Vallee, Cesar Romero. I enjoyed Cesar's performance a lot, and it was nice to see Ann Sothern again even though she was really starting to get heavy at this time and had her weight camouflaged by black dresses and having rails and flower pots and tables placed at her waist level.

I've never been an admirer of Rudy Vallee, and by 1957, I don't think he was exactly in the top tier of stars any more and hadn't been for at least 10 years. Too bad Lucy/Desi couldn't have gotten Xavier Cugat for that spot, or anyone with something of a musical career still going at that point.

With the increased clarity of these shows (and they look fabulous, by the way), you can see bad paint jobs  on some of the sets, and the backdrops are all too obvious now.

Next, I watched the Tallulah Bankhead episode. She steals every scene she's in, and is the whole show for my money. Yes, Lucy does the usual slapstick antics which end up turning out OK for everyone involved, but Tallu was fabu!

Too bad no one ever thought up a comedy series premise for her. She seems to have been a naturally funny, witty woman, and after this guest star appearance, an enterprising producer should have been able to come up with something first rate for her.

Actually, in my experience, there is no "Italian" look that would definitively place one of those actors above the other.  The guy in the posted photos looks more Sicilian than Florentine, although nothing says the look isn't authentic to Florence.  I'm just saying I've seen two of them, and both could pass for Italian.

The guy who was Fabrizio in the PBS production, whoever he was, was fabulous from my perspective.  I'd love to see all of them do the different numbers.

Have you had that Starbuck's hot chocolate that came in the little cup? Can't remember the name of it, (Chantico?) and I don't think they sell it any more, or maybe it's just seasonal, but you can buy something similar from Marie Belle on line: Aztec hot chocolate.  I have a client who loves this so it makes shopping for him easy.

I just spent a couple of hours helping our business librarian host a reception and awards ceremony for 4 teen winners in The Miami Valley's Next Top Entrepreneur Essay Contest.  The judges were 2 business owners and the editor of the Dayton Business Journal.  Very creative business ideas from these young people, including a heli-taxi from Manhattan to the Jersey shore.  My family could have used that in 1999, when we spent a week in Ocean Grove, NJ, and had to take a 2-hour bus ride each way on the 2 days we spent in the City.

Since I'm going to my book group meeting directly from work, my dinner consists of the leftover refreshments from the reception.

Jeez...there are NO good hotels available, apparently! I tried quite a few in the Village. The Chelsea Savoy had a 1 bed room for 250/night. So I went with my old standby, The Edison and booked through a hotel broker. I have to wait 24 hours to see if I get the room. The only thing they had available was for either 1 or 3 people, but the 3 person one was still less than 200.

So, I have plane tickets, possibly a hotel and now I'm working on show tickets. We can go to shows on Thursday night, and Sat. and Sun. matinees. Right now, our picks are Avenue Q, Curtains and Drowsy Chaperone. Any recommendations if we aren't able to get tickets for these?

Oh, we get in 3/29 and leave 4/1. We will be at Sacco and Vanzetti at the Quad Cinema in the village on Friday and Saturday nights. We would love to see any HHWers while we're in NY, and hope to see some at our screenings, too. (If you do well opening weekend, that is when the decision is made to hold it over. The first two days!)

I don't drink cola.

He sings Love To Me on his new solo album [I think on LML?], without the Italian accent, as well as a wonderful rendition of Jason Robert Brown's Someone To Fall Back On.

...One of the "almost train wrecks" at SETCs involved a young man who brought in the refrain of "Someone To Fall Back On".  Alas, since the melody is "off the beat" it can be a bit tricky to coordinate.  And then since the singer just wanted to start on his own after I gave him the pitch, it was a bit difficult for me to find his beat.  Thankfully, we both ended together, but everything that came before that...  -Those 10 bars felt more like 100 to me.

-But that was nothing compared to the girl who brought in another Jason Robert Brown song, "Just One Step".  I played her first pitch... She sang her first pitch... And that turned out to be the only pitch she hit correctly for the next 16 bars.  :-\

It’s a good thing I didn’t mortgage our house to buy the purse, the vet bills are about to add up.

Tomorrow morning our vet is calling to set up an appointment for Sherlock to see an orthopedic specialist in Portland.  He needs further tests & possibly surgery on his shoulder.  On the initial x-rays it appears he has bilateral (though only the right side is symptomatic) OCD, or Osteochondritis dissecans.

Osteochondritis dissecans---it says that:
More than 10% of dogs develop OCD in one or more joints. The condition is more prevalent in large and giant breeds such as:
Great Dane
Labrador retriever
Newfoundland
Rottweiler
Bernese mountain dog
English setter
Old English sheepdog
Golden retriever
German shepherd

I spent the first part of the evening watching the newly remastered version of PETER PAN. Its look is quite a bit different from the last version released in 2002. Colors have been tweaked, most for the better but occasionally I think they missed the mark. The lines in the animation are much more solid and dynamic making for a bolder, brighter picture. And like SNOW WHITE and BAMBI, the picture has been scrubbed to remove most of the grain in the picture. Some don't like that newly polished look. It doesn't bother me at all.

And the new Dolby DIgital 5.1 enhanced theater mix is much fuller than the one on the 2002 disc. There's actually some bass in the mix now and with more use of the surrounds, mostly for music , but still, it does have a much fuller sound.

UGLY BETTY had a delightful episode with Betty's continuing crush on the accountant being thwarted, Daniel and Alexis fighting and then making up again, and some fun stuff with the office meanies (the Amanda dress was hilarious).

The social worker stalking Betty's father is not a storyline I'm interested in much at all, and I wish they'd play it out, but I guess they have to give the actor something of interest to play since he's a regular.

Since America Ferrara has made no secret of his dissatisfaction with the braces she has to wear for the role, I was sure they were coming off tonight and a retainer being substituted for the rest of the season. Maybe they're saving that for the last episode. I enjoyed seeing Jesse Tyler Ferguson playing her dentist, a switch from the hapless Ritchie on THE CLASS.

Hmm, Saturday I must buy a corned beef and make a boiled New England dinner.  I like it better than just corned beef and cabbage.   I make it every year around St. Pats day.

Roger Rees had an interesting guest star role on GREY'S ANATOMY tonight as Christina's former lover and mentor. And most of the relationships on the show hit rocky patches tonight stirring up the waters quite well.

I enjoyed RAINES. It was a clever mystery with a surprise solution. Jeff Goldblum is really playing a sad sack part with a permanent hangdog expression pasted on his face, but it suits the show. The hour passed quickly, but I'm not sure it's action oriented enough to capture a large audience. I'll be interested to see how it did in the ratings.

Funny that among the guest stars on this pilot episode, one of the suspects is the actor who plays Meredith's father on GREY'S ANATOMY. Another was the actor who plays Allison's brother on MEDIUM.

I should mention that the general consensus of everyone I talk to is that I am going to have more work than I can handle in a very short time.  Boy do I hope they are all right!

Roger Rees was on GREY'S ANATOMY!  Oh darn - do they repeat it at any point during the week?  (Roger Rees is directing Skip's show HERRINGBONE at Williamstown in June, so Skip may want to catch that GREY'S episode if they rerun it soon.)

ABC has been repeating Thursday's episode on Friday evening at 8 p.m. Check local listings to see if they're doing that this week.

Fred, I'm not home yet, so I'm recording it...unless something went horribly wrong with my DVR, so if you need, I could tape it and send it to you.

Cillaliz, you just reminded me that I need to start listening to those "teach yourself Hindi" cds that I bought several months ago...I listened to the first half of the first lesseon....and that was as far as I got.

But my weekend Bollywood movies do help pick up the Hindi learning slack.

Dinner tonight will be quite simple.

Cheeseburgers.

Guacamole.

Fries.

And a fruit salad (honeydew and cantalope, blackberries, and orange segments, dressed with key lime yogurt).

He lied! No cheese on the burger!!!

The Fruit salad was a real treat!

I, too, enjoyed it. I found the less-than-frantic pacing refreshing and the show provided a very likable protagonist.

Posting is like writing a book, somedays it comes naturaly, and some days it's like pullng teeth to figure out what to write, or even worse, knowing what to write but not how to convey it.
