Ebsen danced from film to school
Buddy's sister Vilma, 96, teamed with him, taught for decades.
Long Beach Press Telegram

THOUSAND OAKS - Vilma Ebsen, who danced in the film "Broadway Melody of 1936" with her brother Buddy long before he became famous on "The Beverly Hillbillies," has died. She was 96.

Vilma Ebsen, a dance instructor and co-owner of the old Ebsen School of Dancing in Pacific Palisades, died March 12 at the Thousand Oaks Health Care Center, her son Robert Dolan said Tuesday.

As she grew up, she taught at her father's Orlando, Fla., dance school, then joined her brother in New York for the Broadway run of the musical "Whoopee."

They teamed up and Vilma and Buddy Ebsen were featured in the vaudeville revue "Broadway Stars of the Future." The song and dance team also appeared in the Broadway musical revue "Flying Colors," in which they introduced "A Shine on Your Shoes." They were featured in the 1934 edition of "Ziegfeld Follies," in which they sang "I Like the Likes of You."

They came to Hollywood the following year to appear in the 1935 MGM movie musical "Broadway Melody of 1936," in which the Ebsens introduced "Sing Before Breakfast" on a brownstone rooftop with Eleanor Powell. They also performed "On a Sunday Afternoon" and danced in the big "Broadway Rhythm" finale.

It was her only movie appearance.

Buddy Ebsen went on to appear in other movies and Vilma returned to New York where husband Robert Emmett Dolan was a Broadway conductor. She appeared in the musical comedy "Between the Devil," which ran on Broadway from 1937 to 1938.

Vilma and her husband moved to Pacific Palisades in 1941 with their toddler son Robert. Dolan, who became a seven-time Academy Award-nominated film composer, and Ebsen later divorced.

In 1948, she married tennis player Stanley Briggs and the couple had a a son, Michael.

Vilma Ebsen and sister Helga started the Ebsen School of Dancing in 1943, focusing on ballet and tap dancing for children. It operated until the mid-1990s.

"It really became her life," son Robert Dolan said. "She's got adoring students that go back for decades."

Where did DR Jorge go?... and DR Ron? ...they must be in a hypnotic state and unable to post..

Heather Mills (formerly Mrs. Paul McCartney) was just on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and I haven't watched "Dancing With the Stars" and wanted to see her interview.  She told the story of how she lost her leg!  She seems to be very well adjusted and was able to joke about it.  She also said that Paul just sent her flowers.

Miss Karen, that would be up to the grand mensch whether he would like to share the show.  It is in his hands now, for sweetening.

I tried to download his OMF files to put on a disc and send to him but it was going to take over 4 hours! So I stopped the download and in the process the whole editing system now refuses to open. So I have to uninstall and reinstall and yadayada so I couldn't spit out a mini DV even if I wanted to! Argh.

Computers...

Oh, before I go, I forgot to ask DR Jose if he noticed anything unusal in the bathroom at the Atlanta airport. Is this now going to be known as "Taking MARTA"?

MARTA Chairman Accused Of Airport Bathroom Sex Acts
POSTED: 5:53 am EDT March 15, 2007
ATLANTA -- The board chairman of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has been arrested after an undercover police officer says he saw him performing sex acts in an airport bathroom with a man he met over the Internet.
Police say 43-year-old Ed Wall and the other man were engaging in oral sex in a handicapped bathroom stall Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. But they left the door slightly ajar, allowing the undercover officer to see them.
Police say the other man is 25-year-old Michael Pettry of Indianapolis. The two met through a Web site and arranged to meet at the airport.
Both Wall and Pettry have been charged with public indecency.
Wall's lawyer, Steve Sadow, says Wall has been "falsely accused."
Wall, who is married with three children, was appointed to MARTA's board in 2002 and is in his second year as board chairman.

Detective Kennedy (Patridge) and Dr. Hecht (Prescott) are stumped. A string of beautiful women have died in horrible ways by their own hands, with no apparent connection. Frustrated and tired, the detective is dragged to a popular hypnotist's show by his girlfriend and a female acquaintance. Tragedy ensues, and for the first time, the detective and the doctor may be on the verge of solving the mysterious mutilations... or are they?

The alluring Allison Hayes (Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman) is featured in this entertaining b-movie shocker - a cautionary tale of the dangers of unlicensed hynotherapy. Also watch for Fred Demara, the infamous "Great Imposter", in a small role as a hospital doctor.

Well, that's something to wake up to. 127 posts at 7:10am.

Anthony had a good audition and he was pleased with his performance. The people were friendly and they spent some time chatting (the audition was not busy). Ant was relaxed and performed well. He hasn't heard anything, though. It was a monologue audition, not a musical audition. He performed his monologue from The Lisbon Traviata and the auditionees laughed in all the right places. Who knows? We shall see. If he doesn't hear anything by the end of today it's probably a bust.

We will be taping Ugly Betty tonight as we head over to Chelsea Cinemas (where dreams do come true) to indulge ourselves in Johnny Guitar preceded by a floor show with the one and only Hedda Lettuce!

Am I really here by myself?

Okay i was expecting stephanie to go. But I too was shocked that chris was in the bottom 2.  I thought that his rave reviews last night would surely keep him safe.

I actually don't think that he is disliked. I just think that his voters assumed he was safe.

It is so weird to me how different people are in the bottom every single week. To me it means that the votes are pretty close. And people don't start voting until they realize their favorite is in danger of going home.

When Ryan announced the grouping of haley, sanjaya and gina I actually thought they would be the bottom 3 (since i really did not think that chris would be in the bottom).

My guess is next week chris will be safe.

I liked stephanie okay. And it's disappointing that she won't be on the tour (a goal for many). But she just wasn't exciting to watch.  And i still feel like the fact that nobody knew her (from the auditions) made her fanbase smaller.  I actually think that many people chose their favorites early.

I have to mention something my DH told me yesterday.

He was working on promos for a sitcom and shooting it at the sitcom's set.

He had to sign a confidentiality agreement, which isn't unusual. What was unusual was that there was a clause that said that Greg agreed that he wouldn't say anything disparaging about the star...or his family!

Whattever happened to free speech?

Now when we talk about that job, his eyes glaze over as he talks about their luxurious studios and how he liked the star of the show...even better than CATS.

Holy Moley!

Good morning, all!  This is not a good day.  I had dreams about my dad last night, and this morning I'm all weepy, with no wish to get out of bed or to expend any energy.  The dreams had something to do with driving me back to school (airport?), his friend Lucille was in some of  the dream, but so was my mother.  Curiously, in my memory of the dream, I have no idea whose house I was in: it wasn't the one where I grew up, it wasn't my dad's house that we now need to sell, and it wasn't Randy's house where he died.  In the course of my dream, I was being driven somewhere, and I was in the back seat.  I moved forward to touch my dad, and he vanished.  In my memory of the dream, my mother - who was driving - said "your dad's dead; he's not here."

She's been dead for 13 years now, and I don't miss her much; she was too crazy, and her love was thoroughly conditional.  The thing I learned too slowly was that my dad's love was unconditional.  Randy had a bad day a couple of days ago cleaning out dad's clothing.  I have no idea how the Macbeths are coping.

Even though I want to go back to bed, I have to head downtown and deal with jury duty dates.

It's the people behind the scenes who see the "stars" in various emotional states, from serious professional to asshole.  It's usually the crew for the gossip about the tantrums, sexual assignations, fitting problems, demands, etc.

I've heard great gossip about Jeremy Sisto's "star" behavior in his play on Broadway last year, Lauren Bacall in DOG OF THE YEAR, Treat Williams in the film HAIR, and more that I cannot remember now, all from the costume crew.  Usually, too, it's the crew or personal assistant that bears the brunt of the "star's" misbehaving, since they have to clean up the mess, redo/rebuild something, trouble shootetc.

There is the apocryphal (who knows, it could be true) story of Miss Bacall in Applause. My voice teacher told me this one and others have told it as well.

She had a clause in her contract that no one, absolutely no one, who was not on an approved list could touch or talk to her without her express permission on pain of dismissal. One night in the Gay Bar scene where she's dancing her little legs off, apparently she took a spill and fell to the floor. No one on stage at that point was on the approved list to speak to or touch Miss Bacall so she stayed on the floor surrounded by scared and suprised cast members until she got up of her own accord.

Waaaaaay back in high school, during an end-of-the-school-year assembly, they brought in a hypnotist to entertain the students.  He wanted volunteers and performed a test to see how susceptible to hypnotism we were.  All he did was to tell us to close our eyes, listen to his voice and raise our right arms up above our heads.  And then he told us that no matter how hard we tried that we would not be able to put them down.  And I couldn't!  I honest to gawd could not pull my arm down! And I started to freak out a little, especially when I began to hear what sounded to me like a lot of nervous laughter and cries of disbelief.  Finally the hypnotist told us that we could put our arms down and I was able to--in fact, I sort of collapsed into my seat.

As a bunch of kids ran up to the stage to volunteer, something told me to get up and get out of there.  I spotted one of my teachers at the back of the auditorium and asked if I could leave,  She took one look at me and shook her head and told me to go to the library.  As I was leaving, I found that I was being followed by about fifteen other kids all about as shaken as I was.

So that was as far as I was ever--and ever will let myself be--hypnotized.

So, DR Dan (the Man), are you saying that you were aware, while you were hypnotized, of where you were, and what was going on around you?  I certainly would find that disconcerting.

I wonder if he had added the phrase, "And you will forget everything that has happened" would have made any difference?

I don't know what it's called (Synchronicity?) but I've seen people who do it grasp each other's pinkies and say something (again, I haven't a clue what they say). We will have to make up a posting equivalent.

When two people say the same thing at the same time, one of them has to shout "Jinx!"  The one who shouts it first is owed a Coke from the other person.

Yep, I was completely aware of what was going on.  I remember thinking at first that this was stupid and not going to work and then quickly turning to panic when it did.

I later talked to a couple of the kids who were on stage for the actual presentation, and they said that they were aware for all of it except for the times when he told them to sleep.  For the most part, they didn't seem as disturbed by their experiece as I was.

Speaking of the "jinx" thing...

We used to have a game, when I was young and we'd take long car trips, that anyone who counted TEN white horse sightings was entitled to an ice cream cone.  The horse had to be ALL white.  Honor system.  But it was cumulative...you didn't have to spy them all at once.  Memories!

I'm thinking Chris Richardson will also be safe on IDOL next week now that folks see that he can be in danger if they expect others to keep him safe.

There is always some surprising shakedowns in these early rounds of the finals. I quite liked Stephanie, but I knew she wasn't going to win it all, so only her spot on the tour was on the line.

DR Cillaliz, is thiis the same friend you ran into in the coffee shop a few weeks ago? I missed the part where you had lunch together. Sounds like he likes you, he really likes you!

LOL, this morning he is SOO busted.  I called his office yesterday to see if he wanted to go to The Angel of Ahlem with me and he wasn't in so I just left a message that I had called.  Well I stopped to get coffee this morning and not only was he there, but before I could even order he asked if I called because he had already been to the officeand found my message.  (His office is between his house and the coffee shop).

So we had coffee He spent yesterday afternoon working in his back yard and he wants me to see it, he also said he has a really cool old desk that I might like for my office that he happens to not be using etc. We sat and talked for a good half hour. Tee hee.  You were right Edi!   ;D

TOD, then I really should work....

I love to be hypnotised. The first time was a friend of a friend who was a hypnotherapist and I just wanted to see what it was like.  He threw in his stop smoking stuff and since I was young and didn't want to quit, as soon as it was over I lit up a cigarette. But I'll tell you, for a very long time I thought about the salt peter and all the chemicals in the cigarette every time I lit one.

Then I volunteered for shows with 2 different hypnotists.  They are really fun. You do know what's going on and if you didn't want to do something you could stop it, but you just sort of go with the flow without thinking about it.  15 minutes of hypnosis is like an hour of sleep. So the biggest problem is the show is over, it's very late and you feel like you just had a full night's sleep.

I don't know about the forgetting. In both shows the suggestion was that you would remember everything that had happened, so I don't know if the opposite would have worked

It was Matt H!  I kept looking for a photo that might have caused it and couldn't find one.

Thank you all, DRs, for the kind thoughts.  I didn't have a real reaction to my mother's death until several months after she was gone, but I truly miss my father, both for his kindness and his eccentricities, like not wearing his hearing aid and walking around deaf as a post, which caused him to respond strangely to things he misheard.  He was traveling about four years ago with the Macbeths and Lady M asked him when was the last time he went on a plane, and he replied "oh, she went down in the Pacific and they never found her (Amelia Earhart)." I miss his malaprops, like "oldtimers" for Alzheimers or "oxiekin" for oxygen.  As a naval aircraft carrier welder in WW2, he loved to visit New York and walk about the Intrepid which is docked on the Hudson. He always called it "the Interpret."

When we thought he was dying in ICU last June, I looked at him and thought, ohmigod, he's turning into Elmer Fudd.  I miss his optimism about beating the cancer and living to 90 and his courage in having laser eye surgery last fall to correct his vision.  When I took him last year to renew his driver's license at 85, he looked at the expiration date of 2009, and said "we have to come back in three years."

TOD:
Many years ago there was a hypnotist named Pat Collins who had a nightclub act on Sunset Blvd--the Hip Hypnotist. I had gone to it several times and it was a riot. One girl was told to sing a song about broccoli. She did--and was great!

I was about to return to school full-time after a long absence and felt I needed to really concentrate and make very good use of my time, so I took Pat Collins' class on self-hypnosis. I found the technique very helpful for getting into a relaxed state--and yes, even fifteen or twenty minutes is like getting an extra hour or more of sleep. Then a friend took the class. She, too, found it helpful. She had a problem with a contractor who hadn't installed something properly and was dreading having to deal with the guy. She used the techniques she'd learned to practice what she wanted to say to him. It worked beautifully and all was resolved to her satisfaction.

Yes, I haven't bought or rented THE DEPARTED either. It's available in Blu-ray, but the reported violence has kept me away from it. Once it comes on HBO-HD, I probably will watch it or at least start watching, and if it gets too intense, I can turn it off with no loss of investment (except for my time.)

My Met Opera experience - I had no problem when I saw GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES there, but then, I didn't have to deal with the translation mechanism.  But boy, I'm a real comfort queen, as I really confirmed last night at the opera.  I was experiencing true physical discomfort constantly going back and forth between the English titles and seeing what was onstage, so I tried for a while to just watch and just enjoy the singing and not pay attention to the English translation but nothing made sense when I did that.  My real reasons for going, to experience seeing Mr. Flores live and to have a sense of what the PIAZZA people did in another medium, was very worth the money - but I found the length of time it takes to tell so little story, combined with the oppressive physical circumstances, hard to take and having experienced my money's worth, I decided to leave at intermission.    I like the supertitle systemn at City Opera, as well as what they used for the Broadway BOHEME, much better, where you don't have to be in constant motion to take it all in.  But i know most people are already intimately familiar with the opera when they go and my friends hardly needed the translation, it seemed.

That's interesting, DR FJL - My reaction was the complete opposite of yours [Met vs. City Opera].  I guess, too, it kind of depends where you're sitting.

Incidentally, in case it hasn't already been commented upon in these pages previous, Kristin Chenoweth will be appearing in GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES at the MET when it returns to the repertoire in the 2009/2010 season.

It's the people behind the scenes who see the "stars" in various emotional states, from serious professional to asshole.  It's usually the crew for the gossip about the tantrums, sexual assignations, fitting problems, demands, etc.

Well said!  Yes, it's the day-to-day quirks of "star" egos they don't want publicized...the "diva" mentalities of some of the male prima donnas, especially.

singdaw - I guess you're right, it depends where you're sitting.  Thinking back, from the tiers at City Opera (grand tier on up), it seems you can look squarely at the stage and take in the titles and the stage at the same time.  But when I sat in the orchestra section for HARVEY MILK at City Opera, seeing the titles when necessary (not always, since it was in English)  was a chore.

We were in the center grand tier at the Met last night, which was perfect for seeing what was going on onstage.  (Thrilling when the several chandeliers rose right in front of us before the opera, BTW; hope that doesn't peg me as looking for theme park entertainment, but it was exciting).

"American Idol" hypocrisy situation:

It's one thing for the judges to tell the wannabes how they did, including when they just haven't got the pipes for a particular song or when they are "pitchy", etc.

But who tells the "Guest Stars" when they're atrocious beyond words?

Last night, Peter Noone was EXCRUCIATINGLY bad in his rendition of "There's a Kind of Hush..."   He is well past being able to pull off a song like that...and the hand in the air does nothing...and the "sssh's" he peppered throughout the song were LUDICROUS.

As for Lulu, she's still got the pipes, but gone is the upper range which was a major part of her "sound".  Her "To Sir With Love" was riveting, but sadly, her higher sustained notes were off pitch.

Sometimes, it should be "all right" for the guests NOT to sing.

wonder if paramedics know how to get a person out of a hypnotic state?

Since I am an experienced hypnotist, I'll venture an answer:

A hypnotic trance must be maintained by the hypnotist's voice (or the subject will fall into a natural sleep). A post-hypnotic patient acting under post-hypnotic suggestion can only be re-programmed by inducing another hypnotic state (not necessarily by the same hypnotist) - that is why hypnotic-induced non-smoking routines regularly work.

DR Ron Pulliam - I am sooo with you regarding Peter Noone's and Lulu's performances last night on "AI".  Mr. Noone should have just done one chorus and called it a night.  And Lulu should have just sung the song the way she did back then, instead of trying to make it all hip and "today".  *And just how much "work" have both of them had done?  ;)

There shoud be a law about math class at 8 in the morning...

During my freshman year in college, CM - Comprehensive Musicianship - met Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-10:00am.  It was the core class for the music majors - theory, ear training and music history all rolled into one SIX credit class.

Thankfully, the teacher I had would let students "skip" from time to time as long as they were keeping up with the course work.  -And show up for the tests at the end of each week.  *And since I had taken some college level music classes during high school, I skipped many a week(!) at a time - the syllabus was always followed to a "T" so I was able to see what I already knew, and what I would need to learn.  -And I had a 4.1 GPA my freshman year.

He also hated having people fall asleep in his class, so he would "encourage" the sleepyheads to get up and walk around the halls for a while to wake themselves up.  He was a very cool teacher.  In any case...

Having to wake up at 8:00am Monday thru Thursday... And then most likely on Friday since that was the only available slot for keyboard skills...  :-\

*But sophomore year, CM took place 10:00am-Noon, Monday-Thursday. :)

I have a similar class ( only 3 credits though for those of us who are not devoted to music, just curious) in the same timeslot-ish 8-11 fridays. If we begin to fall asleep the techer will simply begin delivering his lecture into your ear, or turn on a loud piece of music.

Ben, I have indeed spoken kindly and well of Miss Bacall, with whom I had a terrific experience.  I first met her at dinner, and we just had the best time eating Chinese food, and then in the studio she was a doll - I had no problem going into the booth and giving her direction and it was great.  I've talked to her a couple of times since, and she's always been very nice.  I've heard the horror stories, but with Bacall and Stritch I just didn't see that behavior.

I've been waiting to hear how Matthew's diet is progressing. The last I heard, he said he didn't feel hungry at all. I hope he hasn't stopped eating entirely and just vanished!

It would take WEEKS and WEEKS to entire vanish, but I'm working on it.  Today is Day 4 - so far so good.  Did some walking yesterday which was great fun.  Today since I have the day off, I'm going to attempt the excercises that come with the plan.  18 minutes two days a week, can you beat that?  It's basically a series of stretches.  The food is still kinda bland, but we're working on that.  Eventually, the lack of salt won't be so evident.  I have TONS of energy, which is nice and I feel "lighter" still can't figure that out.  (I feel like Jekyll when he took the "drug" for the first time as I report the progress here) So, all things are going well.

I really enjoyed last night's show.  I am very interested in Ben and what the heck is going on where they live.  However, I was not shocked by the ending.  When Ben said he had something to show Locke I thought to myself "what could he show him that would really have some impact right now?"  And my first inclination was that his father would be there.

Although that said, it really makes little sense. I mean how would he get his father?

And I still don't really get why locke decided to blow up the sub.  And I am curious if there was actually some way for them to go home. Lots of questions!

Larry - I tried just listening and watching without the titles, and i found that impossible to deal with :(   - others who knew the opera well didn't have to refer to the titles at all, it seemed, though.   But I just found the experience - while at many times magical artistically - physically uncomfortable, and I got what I wanted out of it, which was to see and hear Florez live (which was exciting) and to get a sense of the artistic team's non-PIAZZA work (which fascinated me),

Ms Battle!  There's a loony and a handful, who needs the world to sign confindentialy agreements: too many stories from too many who want her dead.  I really hate the spurious soprano alternates in Rosina's role; Rossini wrote a lovely line for a mezzo, and the late 19th Century revisions drive me mad, even though my first complete BARBER recording was the great 1950s Metropolitan Opera recording with the wonderful Roberta Peters and Robert Merrill.

I did have time to squeeze in a few things for viewing. I started with last night's MEDIUM. I knew it was a rerun from my cable guide, but I didn't really remember the story from the summary presented, so I recorded it and watched it first. I remembered having seen it before only when I saw the stuff about little Marie watching static. but then things came back to me little by little. Very enjoyable episode.

CSI: NY had two cases, and one of them was really bizarre about a live roach encrusted with rubies and emeralds being worn as jewelry. My god, I feel like such a hick when I see such things; I must not be sophisticated AT ALL!

The other one involved a woman dressed as Marie Antoinette who dies after a guillotine reinactment is concluded. No, the blade didn't kill her as I expected it to; CSI pulled a fast one and had her die by poisoning. Let them eat cake indeed!

With about half an hour left before getting on-line, I surfed the premium channels and found A HARD DAY'S NIGHT on one of the Showtime channels which I haven't seen in decades. I caught the last half hour of it.

I don't have it on DVD, and I understand the last DVD release was problematic with a soundtrack remixed badly for surround sound. Obviously this was the one being shown on SHowtime as all the screams and music were being piped in all around me.

Full frame on Showtime and then when the credits came up at the end, those letterbox bars just magically appeared. Bah!

Mother's Day Gifts (http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giant-madagascar-hissing-cockroach-brooch-live-insect-jewelry/)

Quote
The Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroach Brooch is a live cockroach encrusted with Swarovski crystals (I’m sure the cockroaches like that).  Anyway, for $80, you can get an exotic cockroach to crawl all over you while you scoff at your friends for being caught in 2005 (and thus, lacking live jewelry).

“These insects come in varied patterns and are decorated with the finest Austrian Swarovski crystal. Each roach takes about an hour of painstaking work to achieve his final magical glory. All roaches are male to ensure sterility, and come complete with a leash set. This consists of a gorgeous pin you attach to your clothing with a chain that clasps to the cockraoch’s carapace to keep him from running amok. The lifespan of these animals is approximately one year if housed and fed properly. This is not a guarantee, it is an estimate. Roaches love fresh bananas and must have access to fresh water at all times, a very damp paper towel or cotton ball will do the trick.” (Black Chandelier)

You can use the red/yellow/white cable, but use it just for picture. (I know you have a surround system, so I know you have your sound already attached from DVD player to receiver.)

You can put the yellow cable in the green jacks, the red cable in the red jacks, and the white cable in the blue jacks on the back of the DVD player and then into the TV. Be sure you keep the colors consistent from player to TV.

If you use the yellow in the yellow jack, you're going to get a WORSE picture than using the S-video cable, AND you won't have any progressive scan capability.

Actually BOTH titles are correct...if you're British, an Anglophile, or impressed by such things.

Here in the USA, though, he's Tony Webber

If I had done anything exciting today, I would have something to post about. But, alas, it is a lovely day with absolutely no excitement whatsoever, except that it is raining, which is always an exciting thing in the desert.

Yeah, if memory serves it can go from sunny skies to light drizzle to flash floods in lickity split!

It was driving across Arizona when I first saw rain bounce!

*And just how much "work" have both of them had done?  ;)

Lulu "looks" great....from what we can see.  I imagine there've been some nips and tucks here and there (and, oh my, EVERYwhere).

Noone seems fine when just talking...but that performance makes me think hie's a bit deluded about his youthfulness.

Guilty.  And wrote the songs.  But not the score, which is by David Spear.  The nice thing about this release is that I really go into detail about the history of the project and how it got butchered.  Later this year, Kritzerland will be releasing for the first time ever, the original director's cut of the film, along with the butchered version done by the producers, both in the original aspect ratio.

Actually, it's quite a wonderful episode showing up why this show is so fantastic.  You'll get it and you may want to watch it another time.  One episode hooked me.

SCRUBS is quite wonderful tonight, as well.

Just checking the various message boards.  Broadwayworld.com seems to have all the major ones.  -I'm trying to remember the other site that has all the links - they usually get the Times one early.  *Although, sometimes I've been able to "find" the NY Times on their site by clicking through various articles on the show in question.

Jose, I have some on Photobucket.

Ah, OK.  Well, then that makes things much easier.

At the bottom of each pic on your PhotoBucket page are three pictures tags/links.  To post a pic here on HHW, all you simply have to do is click on the IMG Code "link" and copy it.  -And with the way PhotoBucket is set up now, all you have to do is click in that box, and it will automatically copy that code to your "clipboard".  -Don't worry about what a "clipboard" means.  So...

Once you've copied the IMG Code, all you have to do is "Paste" it into your reply here on HHW.  -And you don't even have to worry about typing in the [img] code manually since it's already in the copied and pasted text.

*Otherwise, if you wanted to hotlink an image from another webpage, you would just place the pic's link/url between (img) and (/img).  -I just used parentheses in place of the brackets - you should use brackets.

Terrific lyric change, too.

When I did the show in Houston two years ago, that was one of the bugaboo lyrics that the Musical Director/Conductor made sure to nip in the bud early on.  It was all about the enunciation.  -Although, I guess it's an acceptable mondegreen.  In any case, she was the Musical Supervisor for the original Broadway run, so she know of what she was talking about.

No, since you're not uploading anything to the site.  Only when you hit attach (Choose File) to your post, do you actually upload something to the site.  All you are doing is "hot linking" or referencing the pic from another site.

Additionally, by using the IMD Coding, you can also place more than picture in a post - and you can place text between the pics too.
Title: Re:THE HYPNOTIC I
Post by: JoseSPiano on March 22, 2007, 08:55:59 PM
-And if you want to get really fancy, you can also align the pic (left, right or center), make the pic move, and even make the pic clickable so that it links to another web page.

Hmmm... A flat surface would probably work better for the scallops.  And since the heat of the Foreman Grill is not adjustable...  But you should be fine.  Just remember that scallops are quite easy to overcook.  -But, then again, some people like their scallops cooked "well done".

Unfortunately I picked up the first DVD on the stack and it was HOLLYWOODLAND....

The director says in an interview:  "No one wanted a full biography of George Reeves...."

He didn't ask me.

I'm SO glad it worked!

We share the same opinion about that STUPID directorial comment. Frankly, what I didn't want was an intrusive fictional detective's dull family woes mucking up the fascinating story of George Reeves.

I began my evening with the sensational British mystery GREEN FOR DANGER with Allister Sim, Trevor Howard, and Leo Genn. I figured out the method for murder, but, alas, I didn't pick the murderer though it was obvious once I got to the denouement.

The Criterion disc was a little iffy at the beginning with some slight flashing and a scratch or two, but then things settled down, and it was the lustrous black and white image - glorious.

UGLY BETTY, as others have said, was a superb episode tonight mixing some wonderful comedy, some family melodrama among ALL the families, and a good bit of heart. Marc's defense of the Suarez family instantly gave him another dimension to the bitchy (albeit funny) gay stereotype he's been playing all season. This may be the start of the writers starting to round him as a character.

And Justin was hilarious improvising his own scenario - "Don't I get to play, too?" HE IS PRICELESS!

Grilling and eating are done.  Took about 2 or 3 minutes to grill, nothing stuck to the grill and no oil or spray was used.  3oz of scallops, 2/3 cup of brown rice (with pepper and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray) small green salad with cucumbers and red wine vinegar... dinner.  Yummylicious.  I grilled all the scallops so I'll have some for tomorrow.

GREY'S ANATOMY had an outstanding episode, too, and I knew from the moment Dr. Bailey told Dr. Sloan about her day that he'd use that as the theme of his speech to the board and that they would love it.

With Addison's moving on to her own show next season very likely, making him the new head of surgery will set him up more importantly on the show.

I wasn't at all for the Callie-George-Izzy triangle last week, but I actually think it will open some interesting possibilities for a new dynamic between the three of them.

I still don't believe that Christina and Burke will ever tie the knot.

Actually, it's quite a wonderful episode showing up why this show is so fantastic.  You'll get it and you may want to watch it another time.  One episode hooked me.

SCRUBS is quite wonderful tonight, as well.

DP Colin and I decided one viewing of Ugly Betty was more than enough.  It rated #1 here in Melbourne on debut and After three weeks is now at #12. Even "Better Homes and Gardens" made it to #10.

Wow, loads of posts today.  I can't stay & read them.

I just stopped in to ask for continued vibes for our little boy.  Tomorrow Sherlock has a CT scan scheduled.  He might have the worse kind of elbow dysplasia.  We still aren't sure he doesn't also have the problem we went to the specialist for.  It is very complicated, we will know more tomorrow.

Needless to say, he are very upset & worried & aren't sure what to do.

Back from taping a very raucous radio show, which began with the mic falling over and hitting my glass of Diet Coke, which promptly spilled on mostly everyone.  It got wilder from there.  The show airs on Sunday.

And Justin was hilarious improvising his own scenario - "Don't I get to play, too?" HE IS PRICELESS!

And it takes some doing to steal scences from the regular bunch of pros on screen.

Our "marked for viewing" TV  consists of one programme this coming week.  "Spooks" (M.I.5).

I guess we just don't "get" TV. (of course if the "reality" shows are crossed out then there is not much left).

Tomovoz, I have only turned on the news for the last few weeks, and I usually turn it off because there is too much dumb chatter. If our tv broke, I probably wouldn't even notice.

One of the chinchy bassas who terrorized the Phoenix area last year:

PHOENIX -- Serial Shooter suspect Dale Hausner wants a reward for generating headlines.

The East Valley Tribune reported that Hausner, who faces seven counts of first-degree murder, placed a collect call to the paper and asked for a discounted subscription to the Tribune.

"I've sold a lot of newspapers for you," Hausner told the Tribune.

The paper reported that Hausner called himself "Dale the Innocent" when he placed the call from the Fourth Avenue Jail.

The Tribune said it declined Hausner's request for a "sweetheart deal."

Hausner is one of two men charged in the Serial Shooter case. He and Samuel Dieteman are charged with seven slayings in connection with 42 shootings of random people and animals in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa from May 2005 to July 2006.

It's late - I can probably get away with a Blonde joke:

Quote
PLANE IS ON ITS WAY TO HOUSTON WHEN A BLONDE IN ECONOMY CLASS GETS UP AND MOVES TO THE FIRST CLASS SECTION AND SITS DOWN. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT WATCHES HER DO THIS AND ASKS TO SEE HER TICKET.

SHE THEN TELLS THE BLONDE THAT SHE PAID FOR ECONOMY CLASS AND THAT SHE WILL HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK.

THE BLONDE REPLIES, "I'M BLOND, I'M BEAUTIFUL, I'M GOING TO HOUSTON AND I'M STAYING RIGHT HERE."

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT GOES INTO THE COCKPIT AND TELLS THE PILOT AND THE CO-PILOT THAT THERE IS A BLONDE SITTING IN FIRST CLASS THAT BELONGS IN ECONOMY BUT SHE WILL NOT MOVE BACK TO HER SEAT.

THE CO-PILOT GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND TRIES TO EXPLAIN THAT BECAUSE SHE ONLY PAID FOR ECONOMY, SHE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE AND RETURN TO HER SEAT IN THE ECONOMY SECTION.

THE BLONDE REPLIES, "I'M BLONDE, I'M BEAUTIFUL, I'M GOING TO HOUSTON AND I'M STAYING RIGHT HERE."

THE CO-PILOT TELLS THE PILOT THAT HE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE THE POLICE WAITING WHEN THEY LAND SO THAT THEY CAN ARREST THIS BLONDE WOMAN  WHO WON'T LISTEN TO REASON.

THE PILOT SAYS, "YOU SAY SHE IS A BLONDE? I'LL HANDLE THIS. I'M MARRIED TO A BLONDE AND I KNOW HOW TO 'SPEAK BLONDE'."

HE GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND WHISPERS IN HER EAR AND SHE SAYS, "OH, I'M SORRY SIR."  THEN, SHE GETS UP AND GOES BACK TO HER SEAT  IN ECONOMY.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT AND CO-PILOT ARE AMAZED AND ASKED HIM WHAT HE SAID TO MAKE HER MOVE WITHOUT ANY FUSS.

I JUST TOLD HER, "FIRST CLASS ISN'T GOING TO HOUSTON."

Update on the guy who got abandoned at hte library.

He will become a word of the state. Sadly the most the JERK will get will be a slap on the wrist and probation.  This may sound harsh, but IMHO, the ones who abandoned him deserve a special place in hell.

And I really loved RAINES tonight, too. It's a very different kind of detective show. I just love getting the story of the crime and the identity of the victim little by little, and sometimes receiving the wrong information which leds Raines down shaky paths toward the eventual truth. Very different kind of show.

Did you (or anyone) happen to notice that when Jeff Goldblum was talking with someone, he would frequently glance away from the person's face at what looked to me to be a specific point??  All I could think about during most of the episode was that he's using cue cards! :o
