Well, you've read the notes, the notes were here, there, and everywhere, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're hitting the road, and none of them are named Jack, either.

And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to cynlu, whomever they may be.

And the word of the day is: ADAMITE!
Wasn't that the very first incarnation of the yeast-based spread so popular Down Under?

Good evening, DR Tomovoz. Your request is on my project list for this weekend. :) But first I have to FIND the darned thing.

DR MBarnum: The New York Times on Bollywood and the state of Indian film today (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/21/movies/21indi.html?_r=1&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print).

Vegemite rules but is owned by the USA now!

My task for tomorrow is copying things too DR Ginslaw
-
Happy birthday to Sherlock's "Dad"
-
Vegemite rules but is owned by the USA now!
Do you like Vegemite, Tomovoz? How do you think it compares to Marmite? (I can't tell the difference.)
To me, it's one of those foods that seems repulsive at first but then you find yourself craving it---like that carbonated yoghurt drink that they serve in some Turkish restaurants. (The Turkish equivalent of an egg cream?)
-
I do not like the title of today's notes.
-
Wasn't Adamite a rock singer?
-
TOD: I don't follow any series, but I've liked what I've seen of 6 Feet Under.
Since I am required to watch THE CLOSER, I must say I really enjoy it!
DR Bretty, I didn't mean to insult to with my suggestion to "stick with it". It's just that I have recommended it to several people who were so turned off by the pilot (as was I) that they refused to watch any more episodes, which is a shame because they both really would have liked it.
But I didn't realize you were such an avid TV viewer!
-
I eat Vegemite at times. NEVER marmite. Vegemite is quite different!
No home should be without vegemite, chocolateand ice-cream. All food groups covered.
-
I do not like the title of today's notes.
Whatever did the road do to you to deserve that? ;D
-
I've changed my mind Jack - I want you back. (I think that was Jo-ann Campbell)
-
Happy Birthday to DH Keith!
I hope you have lots of celebrating in store to make up for missing the reunion to take care of everyone's favorite D(ear) D(og), Sherlock! You have earned great respect from us pet lovers!
-
They were supposedy going to call Vegemite Pamite. It is vegetarian (yeast based). marmite is not. That was the reason for Vegemite being invented.
-
I eat Vegemite at times. NEVER marmite. Vegemite is quite different!
No home should be without vegemite, chocolateand ice-cream. All food groups covered.
What is marmite, then? I thought they were the same thing, and even the packaging looks almost the same. Or are you kidding me in that way you Aussies do?
Vegemite, chocolate and ice-cream---but not in combination, I hope! (Unless it's make your own ipecac day!)
-
So marmite is _______________ based?
-
marmite really is a UK meat extract product. Vegemite was made by "Sanitarium" products here (Seventh Day Adventist company).
-
Whatever did the road do to you to deserve that? ;D
Egg-zactly! ;D
-
Off to work.
I liked SIX FEET UNDER and DEADWOOD, but I don't have HBO or SHOWTIME anymore.
I watched a few episodes of LARRY SANDERS....

off to bed. good morning all - and to the sundried as well.

Good morning, all! This morning, I have some Toyland writing to do while I'm enduring laundry chores. At two, I'm havng lunch with a friend who's been assisting Jeff Calhoun on HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL productions. Do you mean the one that is featured in the recent film Casino Royale?

John Kerr - always my favourite Cable.
I guess HBO is cable (I have no idea) - Six Feet Under and Deadwood.

Six Feet Under, Carnivale and Deadwood were all cable presentations here in the States.

Adamites live in Lancaster County PA and wear only fig leaves.
Winter is hard for these people, since the figs don't grow during that season.

What is marmite, then?...
I always thought a marmite was a South American rodent.
Not at all Good Eats.

FX - THE SHIELD, RESCUE ME
TNT - THE CLOSER
Bravo - QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY, PROJECT RUNWAY

I had oatmeal last night! I forgot to mention in when I logged in last night, but I did enjoy it, the first I've had in many years.
-
I still have SUPERNATURAL from Thursday's list of TV shows. There is nothing on TV tonight, so depending on what comes in the mail today, I may be watching MEMENTO on Blu-ray this evening.
This afternoon, I'll probably continue with the remaining episodes on the GREY'S ANATOMY disc I was watching. They're so addictive.
-
As for cable shows I would have included:
I loved Lisa Kudrow's THE COMEBACK once it got up to speed. Alas, it only ran one season.
I am loving THE TUDORS, but it's only run for three episodes so far and thus can't be counted a favorite yet. Since it has already been renewed for a second season, I'll be eager to see how much they spread out the history or will they do what ROME did and condence years of history into a single episode. That's why ROME isn't in my list.
-
I probably should have listed THE DAILY SHOW, THE COLBERT REPORT, and SOUTH PARK on Comedy Central because I always enjoy them when I tune it, but I just haven't developed the habit of watching every time they're broadcast, so I guess I can't count them as favorites.
-
Is that what happened to Cher?
LOL!
-
Do you mean the one that is featured in the recent film Casino Royale?
According to the Bodyworlds website, yes, it was featured in Casino Royale.
There is another one touring that is in Las Vegas now.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it looks like a totally beautiful day outside. The temps should be in the mid-70s...
And our radiators just turned on... ??? ??? ??? ???
-
I was hoping that I'd wake up in time - and with enough motivation - to head down to Chelsea early enough to get my hair cut. Alas, that did not happen. And because of the performance schedule next week, the earliest I could fit a hair cut in would be Thursday. My hair really isn't that long, but it's longer than I'm used to having it lately...
....I'm babbling.... Next post!....
-
I am doing more paperwork while awaiting the relatives to call.
-
As for The Topic of the Day...
"Six Feet Under"
"Queer As Folk"
"Sex and the City"
"Weeds"
"The Comeback" (I do love the extras on the DVDs!)
And if you want to include "How-To's" and "Reality"...
"Good Eats"
"While You Were Out"
"Queer Eye" - At least the first two seasons
"What Not To Wear" (both the original BBC and TLC versions)
"Food 911"
"Cookin' in Brooklyn" (which I don't think is on any longer)
"Top Design"
"Project Runway"
....And a host of other series I know I'm forgetting.
-
Hmm... So, I'm thinking that since it's such a nice day, I may take the early (crew) train up to Westport this afternoon. That would give me a good two hours to walk around Main Street. And grab lunch too. Hmm....

And as for "The Not Just the Best of the Larry Sanders Show" boxed set... It's been interesting reading all the reasons and speculation concerning the release of a boxed set, and the re-release of season one. Names have been named.
However, I do have think the music clearances are a major part of the hold up in getting the show onto DVD. Lots of record labels to deal with.
-
...And I also didn't realize that the "Planet Earth" series was originally narrated by David Attenborough during it's BBC broadcast. Not Sigourney Weaver as it is here stateside.
-It's also been fun reading those comments too.
-Although, I think it would be fun to have a second audio track so that you could compare both narrators side by side. ;)
-
Well, if I want to get on that early train, I guess I should get myself ready to head on up...

DR Laura, I saw the "Bodies" exhibit here in New York. It's been held over for a long, long time. I found it rather gruesome and unseemly. A friend was fascinated and loved it. It was also rather expensive (IMHO). Controversy surrounds it as well. All (and I mean every single physical specimen) of the bodies are Asian. There is some speculation as to how the bodies got to the people putting the exhibition together. There are many exclamations in the Comments Book along the line of "Stop stealing dead Asian bodies!
-
I haven't see the exhibit, Ben, but the pictures do look unseemly.

My favourite original cable show is probably the one you've been watching: The Larry Sanders Show. Everything you said about it is right on. I also like Gary Shandling's first cable show as well, but Larry Sanders is almost brilliantly transcendant!
I love South Park. Still the most incisive, sharp, outrageous satire on TV. Favourite episode would probably have to be the Jennifer Lopez one where Cartman does a Senor Wences act with his hand as puppet Jennifer Lopez. It terrifically, courageous absurdist...first, that Cartman, a fourth grader, is doing a Senor Wences bit and secondly that the creators are doing the bit to a general audience, who like Cartman, probably would have no idea who Senor Wences is. Just wonderfully loopy.
I loved ROME.
DEADWOOD started out well, but I thought last season was the longest shaggy dog story that went absolutely no where and ended disappointedly, not taking us where it felt like it was leading up to.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Keith!
-
I have heard nothing about the Larry Sanders probs, Jose. Enlighten and name names.

And one for Cillaliz!
A guest columnist at AndrewSullivan (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/04/hoist_by_our_ow.html) commenting on the Duke Lacrosse players:
The real issue, I think, is not the publicity, or that we care about white people more, but that it has become very, very clear that having a good lawyer really, really matters. In this case, the victim was sufficiently unhinged, and the DNA sufficiently strong, that it probably would have been dismissed anyway; but there remains the awful, and not altogether unlikely, possibility that had they been poor (white or black) these boys would have gone to jail for a crime that pretty clearly didn't happen. Inexperienced and overworked public defenders are no substitute for a good trial attorney. Attorney incompetence seems to be the main culprit in almost all cases where someone actually innocent goes to jail. This is intolerable. But no one wants to put real money into the public defender system.

Saturday afternoon greetings from beautiful Tiffin, Ohio! AAUW/Ohio's 12th annual equity day conference (Financially Fit for Life) and 83rd Annual Meeting and Convention are now history! All the speakers showed up - on time and well-prepared - we had good registration numbers for both days, attendees participated in the audience-participation segments, and (best of all) we finished about 45 minutes early. The local branch co-presidents recruited a wonderful local arrangements chair, with whom it's been a pleasure to work for the last 7 months - I just promised her I'd remove her from my speed-dial.
Most everyone is now heading back to their homes throughout Ohio, but I decided to stay tonight, relax a bit, and drive home tomorrow. The AAUW Great Lakes Regional Director, who's from Wisconsin and was our headliner this morning, is also staying until tomorrow. Later she and I are going to dinner at Pioneer Mill of Tiffin.

I've had several telephone conversaions this afternoon which have been spread among the little bit of viewing I was able to do.
I finished the GREY'S ANATOMY episode I had begun last night with everyone basically finding out that Meredith and Dr. McDreamy were sleeping together. This was also the episode that featured the Orthodox Jewish girl who refused to have a porcine valve in her valve replacement surgery. Turned out a bovine valve was actually longer lasting and more reliable.
-
I continued with the next episode in the set (last of the season), the one where George finds out he has syphilis, and we finally meet Addison Montgomery-Shepherd. I haven't finished it so Addison hasn't made her appearance yet.

Looks like tonight I'll be watching STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME. Just got the DVD Director's Cut that's been out for years. Had never bothered buying it since I had the laserdisc and didn't watch it often, but it was on sale at Deep Discount so I thought I might as well complete the Star Trek collection of films as I had all the others on DVD.

The 1997 film?

Yes.

All of the above mentioned cable shows have aired here on free to air TV (with the exception of Deadwood), We only have 5 channels without signing up for cable. We tried cable for a few years but decided it really only gave us a greater choice of channels not to watch.
I'm not sure that "Deadwood" has been on TV here at all.
Was the delightful " Arrested Development" on cable? I'd add that to my list.

No, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT was a network comedy - Fox network.

I got a Johnny Mandel songbook - very interesting, as there are two songs with lyrics by the Bergmans that I'd never heard of. I recognized both tunes immediately - the first is the love theme (if there's a love theme) from Point Blank, and the second, more interstingly, is Mandel's beautiful theme from his tossed out score to Author Author. Unfortunately, both lyrics are not so good, which happens a lot with the Bergmans when setting some of my favorite previously unset tunes. Their lyric to Soldier In The Rain, one of Henry Mancini's most beautiful tunes is really not good, and their recent lyric to Deborah's Theme from Once Upon A Time In America, at least as interpreted by Miss Celine Dion, almost ruined the tune for me.

I would like to know if anyone has attended (Tomovoz) or heard (everyone else) of this new traveling show that started in Oz called WALKING WITH DINASOURS (not to be confused with our Amy). It begins its U.S. tour in Seattle in July; not in theaters, but rather, arenas. It supposedly has life-sized dinasours that wander around, eat, and fight. Tickets seem pricey for an arena show. The top price is $75.00.

I survived work today. It was a bit insane there, since the good weather we've had over the last couple of days has brought an influx of summer people into town, and they are all restocking their pantries.
Upon returning home, there was a letter waiting for me from the prothonotary of Sussex County. Yep, they've sent me a jury duty notice.
Back when we were living in California, I never felt any need to get out of jury duty. I rather enjoyed the experience. But this is no longer the case. They're proposing to yank me out from work, from a part time paycheck that I need, right when it switches to premium summer pay, and keep me from earning my paycheck for two full weeks.
On top of which, Georgetown is a distance away from where we live, which means that der B will have to spend major time and gas money acting as my transportation man. Either that, or I'll be using public transportation... which doesn't exist in Delaware.
No, I'm going to have to tell them to shove it this time.

Both great ideas that I will have to be on the lookout for!
-
Singdaw's SPEECHLESS! Who would have thought??!
-
Ooooh Here comes Cason!
Not here comes le caisson.
-
We shall be having interstate visitors for the next week. I shall be truant to some extent at least.
Perhaps one day I shall write "international visitors" but only DR Jose has visited. I blame Jose for the bad press.
DR Jose's the only one RICH enough to travel far and wide! That's why we put so many blames on him!
-
Praise the Lord and pass the caisson. I know that's a line from somewhere.
-
Not here comes le caisson.
Translated into French, it sounds terrible! At least for a woman!!
-
Praise the Lord and pass the caisson. I know that's a line from somewhere.
isn't there a song with "cassons" in it?!
-
François has left the building.
Il est touché mon ami.
Thanks, DR Tomovoz!!! :)
-
Was someone asking you???! ;D
Certainly not MBarnum! ;D
-
Touché!
Thank you, DR François!!!
-
Over hill, over dale, we have hit the dusty trail,
and those caissons go rolling along.
"Counter march! Right about!"
hear those wagon soldiers shout,
while those caissons go rolling along.
For it's "Hi! Hi! Hee!" in the Field Artillery,
Call off your numbers loud and strong.
And where e'er we go you will always know
that those caissons go rolling along.
To the front, day and night where the doughboys dig and fight
and those caissons go rolling along.
Our barrage will be fired on the rockets flare
while those caissons go rolling along.
For it's "Hi! Hi! Hee!" in the Field Artillery,
Call off your numbers loud and strong.
And where e'er we go you will always
know that those caissons go rolling along.
With the cav'lry, boot to boot we will join in the pursuit
and those caissons go rolling along.
Action front, at a trot, volley fire with shell and shot
while those caissons go rolling along.
For it's "Hi! Hi! Hee!" in the Field Artillery,
Call off your numbers loud and strong.
And where e'er we go you will always know
that those caissons go rolling along.
Should the foe penetrate, ev'ry gunner lies in wait
and those caissons go rolling along.
Fire at will, lay 'em low, never stop for any foe
while those caissons go rolling along.
For it's "Hi! Hi! Hee!" in the Field Artillery,
Call off your numbers loud and strong.
And where e'er we go you will always know
that those caissons go rolling along.
But if fate me should call, and in action I should fall
keep those caissons go rolling along.
Then in peace I'll abide when I take my final ride
on a caisson that's rolling along.
For it's "Hi! Hi! Hee!" in the Field Artillery
Call off your numbers loud and strong.
And where e'er we go you will always know
that those caissons go rolling along.
The song was originally written by field artillery
First Lieutenant [later Brigadier General] Edmund L. Gruber,
while stationed in the
Phillipines in 1908. The song was transformed into a march
by John Philips Sousa in 1917
and renamed
The Field Artillery Song.

The name's Liza!

This is turning into PlayGirlHisWay to me!!!
And this would be a problem because - - - - - - ??????? ::)

I suspect Robert Horton's invitation would have been accepted quite quickly by that "Lizzie".

"Vote For Me" an obscure Mark Wynter reference.

It's a song from "Just For Fun".

Well, DR Casson left so let's talk about Cassel Jean-Pierre:
The actor Jean-Pierre Cassel was born as Jean-Pierre Crochon in Paris. Before he came to the film he was active as a nightclub dancer, an ability he put into action time and again in his early film roles.
He made his film debut in 1953 with "Saluti e baci". When he was spotted by Gene Kelly for the movie "The Happy Road - Strasse des Glücks" this marked the beginning of a great career which found its height in the 70's.
Jean-Pierre Cassel took acting lessons after his film debut and acted at the Theatre National Populaire. In the next years he took part in other movies in which he normally impersonated smaller roles, so in "A pied, à cheval et en voiture" (57), "En cas de malheur" (58), "Les surmenés" (58) and "La nuit de Tom Brown" (59).
His parts became gradually bigger from the 60's till he grew up to a leading actor.
To his well-known movies of the 60's belong "Les jeux de l'amour - Liebesspiele" (60), "L'amant de cinq jours - Liebhaber für fünf Tage" (61), "Arsène Lupin contre Arsène Lupin" (62), "Cyrano et d'Artagnan" (63), "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines - Die tollkühnen Männer in ihren fliegenden Kisten" (65), "Un monsieur de compagnie - Ich war eine männliche Sexbombe" (65), "Paris brûle-t-il?" (66) and "Oh! What a Lovely War" (69).
His film career became more international from the 70's, besides productions in France and Italy he also appeared in movies in the USA.
Jean-Pierre Cassel rallied a crowd of fans round him with movies like "Malpertuis" (71), "Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie" (72), "The Three Musketeers" (73), "Murder on the Orient Express" (74), "Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? - Die Schlemmerorgie" (78) and "Grandison" (79).
In the next decades he acted in countless cinema and TV productions where he impersonated bigger and smaller roles.
He took aprt in popular movies like "La vie continue" (81), "La truite" (82), "Alicja" (82), "Liberty" (86), "Casanova" (87), "A Matter of Convenience" (87), "Il giovane Toscnini" (88), "The Phantom of the Opera" (89), "Mister Frost" (89), "Vincent & Theo" (90), "The Favour, the Watch and the Very Big Fish" (91), "L'enfer - Die Hölle" (94), "Casque bleu" (94), "Les montagnes bleues" (98), "Les rivières pourpres - Die purpurnen Flüsse" (00) and "Michel Vaillant" (03).
Jean-Pierre Cassel was nominated for a César in 1996.
-
It's a song from "Just For Fun".
Well... try to tell people they have to vote... just for fun! :D
-
"Vote For Me" an obscure Mark Wynter reference.
Does Mark Wynter change name with the seasons or does he only go by "Me & Albert"?
-
Think what would happen to this site right now if there were NO France and NO Australia???! I ask you!
-
And one for France and Australia!
-
Mark goes by either Robert or Elizabeth I think!
He may have been in Valmouth for the holidays.
-
I have it wrong! What was the musical Mark Wynter was in, Tom?!
-
There! Got confused with the names! Blimey!!
-
Mark goes by either Robert or Elizabeth I think!
He may have been in Valmouth for the holidays.
I'd rather have vermouth for the holidays!
-
I'm sure Mr Wynter has been in more musicals. (though perhaps not in London)
-
Mr Wynter was a regular TV performer in OZ. He was very popular on shows that later featured DR MusicGuy!
-
Will we never get to page six?
Come and gone hours ago.

Mr Wynter was a regular TV performer in OZ. He was very popular on shows that later featured DR MusicGuy!
And sometimes DR MusicGuy guest stars at HHW where he's very popular!
He's popular with the populace!

Come and gone hours ago.
Long Ago And Far Away...
-
I heard that Mark Wynter had an affair once with Susan Sommer but it only lasted a season!
-
Marjorie Belcher was Marge Champion who was the live model for Snow White.
-
Well he is in the Autumn of his life now.
-
I began my evening finishing the last GREY'S ANATOMY of season 1. The theme of that last episode was "secrets," and so every one of the major characters had some secret or other that got exposed during the episode.
-
Long Ago And Far Away...
???
-
Marjorie Belcher was Marge Champion who was the live model for Snow White.
Well, Marge Champion was born Marjorie Belcher. She was not married to Mr Champion then. She also modeled for Fantasia and Pinocchio and she had a fling with Disney animator Art Babbitt who was one of the main instigators of the 1941 strike at the Studios....
-
???
I was going along with you and thought of a song that was fitting the "theme"! I know; it's lousy joking but that's all i'm good at! :-[
-
Next I watched a DVD that came in today: STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME. The movie has always been entertaining but up until a few days ago, I didn't realize I had never gotten a DVD of it. I only had it on laserdisc. Deep Discount was having a sale on Paramount films, so I got this one was something like 5.88 or something (a two disc set).
I was VERY disappointed in the transfer of this film especially since this was supposed to be a remastered version of the original issue. It was anamorphic, so I guess I should be grateful for that. Much of it was soft, hazy, and drab, however. Except for a few outside shots, it looked to me much worse than the other TREK movies in the series. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound was OK but nothing earthshaking.
-
Well, Marge Champion was born Marjorie Belcher. She was not married to Mr Champion then. She also modeled for Fantasia and Pinocchio and she had a fling with Disney animator Art Babbitt who was one of the main instigators of the 1941 strike at the Studios....
I know she wasn't. I was trying to add just a bit of information for those folks here who might not know her as Marge Belcher but rather the person they would know as Marge Champion.
-
Actually, she had MORE than a fling with Mr Babbitt! She was married to him!
"Babbitt married Marjorie Celeste Belcher, the later Marge Champion, on August 8, 1937; she was just under 18, and he was 29. They divorced a year or two later. At the time of his marriage, Babbitt was in the midst of animating the Queen 's early scenes in Snow White. The sweatbox notes suggest that his work on those scenes began in early July 1937 and ended in late October; so if Walt Disney was about to fire Babbitt, he would have done so at the cost of disrupting production of his feature. Moreover, there is good reason to believe that Babbitt and Marjorie Belcher married not because they were having an affair, but because they were not having one. This is what Marge Champion told me when I interviewed her in 1993:
Champion: I loved Art very much; he was a terrific guy. We were just totally unsuited to each other.
Barrier: Everybody who has mentioned your marriage has said this, and I've never understood quite what happened between you.
Champion: I never have either, except that for a very brief period, he just swept me off my feet. You know, in those days, nice girls didn't, so that was one way of getting into life."

That's ok! I understand! I just did the same! :D
-
I finished my evening with EXECUTIVE DECISION, one of my all-time favorite action adventure films made in the last 15 years.
I hadn't watched this DVD since I got my new HDTV several years ago, and as this was one of the earliest DVD releases, you could tell that it was a dated transfer. It still looked OK, and Warners was forward thinking enough then to do an anamorphic transfer, so that was nice. The DOlby Digital 5.1 track is killer, as good as anything released today.
But the movie could really do with a video upgrade. There was lots of edge enhancement, colors were a little smeared in places, and the second unit special effects work was much grainier than the rest of the film.
-
Tomorrowq I intend to watch MEMENTO on Blu-ray and definitely SUPERNATURAL from last Thursday night.
-
I'm not into body builders.
No, Jane, not a bodybuilder - An actor!
-
Oops (spoo), I might be able to get to the last DOris Day film in the new collection - LUCKY ME. Not a favorite of mine, but it is in Cinemascope, so I'll be curious to see what kind of transfer Warners gave it.
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!

And I imagine that some HHWers may get over their fear of Bollywood when newcomer Upen Patel makes his leading role debut in the upcoming musical drama SHAKALAKZ BOOM, BOOM...which will hit theaters soon.

Good Evening!
Two good shows today. One good between-show dinner. And a nice van ride home. Since some people were riding home with friends tonight, there were only five people to drop off. And four of us were able to be dropped off at the same stop... just a few blocks from my apartment. :)

We saw Bounce at the Kennedy Center in DC (right before it was recorded). If nothing else, the show provided lots of fuel for discussion. Everybody agrees it needed "fixing" - few could agree on how to go about it!. It had the elements of two or three different shows, each struggling to get out.

Yes. I'm too lazy to check on the correct title.
I'm not sure there was ever a "correct" title - just a "current" one.

Very suspect are wise souls. I love the English language.

I meant "A Little House For Mama".
I think "Wise Guys" was funnier. The recording seemed to have more humour.
