Title: TOO POOPED TO POP
Post by: bk on April 25, 2007, 12:16:26 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were pooped and popped (I've used this title before, but I'm too pooped to pop and change it), and now it is time for you to post until the too pooped to pop cows come home.

Now to finish Lost Horizon, the musical.  This appears to be the cut version of the film, despite the menu saying it runs 2 hours and 30 minutes - I think it will end up at two hours and five minutes.

Good morning, all!  I am quite tired today, but I must needs show up at Toyland to await the arrival of two Fed Ex packages.

After such a full and exciting day as yesterday, today shold be quite low-key.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm having a nice, leisurely morning.

I was thinking about heading down to Chelsea to get my hair cut this morning, but I found myself doing too much math in my head - how long would the train trip downtown take, how long would the hair cut take, how long would the train trip back up, how much time would I need before I head to the train, etc. - so, I just took a couple of deep breaths and decided to stay put this morning.  I can get my hair cut tomorrow morning.  -When I don't have a train to catch in a few hours.  *And I'm catching up on last night's "Idol" courtesy of the DVR.  :)

It  would appear that BK is not the only person who is too pooped to pop.  Almost 9:30 (right-coast time) and barely a dozen  posts.

Even though it is after 6:30 a.m. here in Tacoma, I am not at work.  Nor have I showered nor have I dressed.  I seem to be suffering a major emotional meltdown this morning.  In addition, not one, but both of the kids are sick this morning.

Oh... I don't think I ever responded to yesterday's Topic of the Day...

Alas, I really don't remember the specifics of my first internet experiences.  I was with Prodigy for a while, then switched to AOL somewhere along the line.  I did subscribe to rec.arts.theater.musicals for a few months, but there were too many fluff posts about Les Miz and Phantom for my taste.  I still subscribe to the Sondheim listserv, and will go through phases where I go into posting mode there - but it's been a while.  And I guess that's about it for now.

DRs FJL, elmore3003, and JoseSPiano -

I am so sorry about last night [cue Barbara Cook]!  I realized about 8:30 PM that the timing wasn't going to work, and that's when I text messaged Jose.  I was truly looking forward to meeting you guys.  And now I feel especially bad when I read about your mad scramble to the train station.  Glad it worked out in the end, but sure wish I could have arranged it differently.  [And, in my defense, I did warn you all ahead of time that it might not work out!]

But I am not so far from NYC, so we will have to arrange an alternate gathering.

Jose:  Tonight at 5:00 is fine, if that gives you enough time.  I was thinking we could try Bombay, the Indian restaurant?  [I know where it is, now.]

No worries.  -At least from me.  DR elmore, on the other hand... ;)

And 5:00 sounds good.  -Especially since it would probably be a good idea to get back to the theatre a little "early" to get parking.  Tonight's show is followed by a "talk back", and, apparently, it's a pretty full house.

*Plus, they officially announced yesterday that we will not be extending, so the last minute rush for tickets has started too.

I will definitely be recording the TWO HOUR special event IDOL show tonight. It's basically a telethon, and while it's certainly a worthwhile charity, I already have money earmarked for other charities and am not interested in the fund raising aspects of the show. Many of the guests aren't of much interest either, so I'll be speeding through much of it to get to the results.

Other new episdoes on tonight: JERICHO, CSI: NY, MEDIUM, CROSSING JORDAN, LOST (can't wait).

I didn't respond to yesterday's topic, either, and have been giving it a lot of thought.  My first Internet experience was Telnet - text-based email and bulletin boards.  I was teaching in the Miami University Teacher Education department when GUI (graphical user interface) first became available - we had Netscape.  I created an  Internet-exploration exercise for all these aspiring teachers in which they were to find and evaluate:

3 sites just for fun,
2 sites that would be useful in lesson planning, and
1 site you wouldn't want your students to stumble across in an open lab  :o

Actually, I'm thinking of bringing back the television miniseries for this one.  I'm afraid that its expanse in time, geography and parade of characters will not fit into a mere two hour film.

We have LOST on here at 7pm (although i won't be home). But i really want to watch it.  I'll probably watch some of the IDOL show and record some of it (will the elim be at the end or will they scatter parts throughout the show).

I think jordin and melinda are safe. But everyone else could go. I am especially worried about blake.

It seems like phil is now popular again, which i don't get. I can't remember seeing someone in the B2 week after week, and then all of a sudden the most popular.  He does seem really nice though.

I would guess Chris or Lakisha would go. As long as it's not blake i don't care.

I was a bit disappointed with who left too. But i knew it would be heather and john in the B2. I loved heather the first few weeks. But did not care for her this week or last. And she seemed like she was ready to go. All that travel and having to go home for her daughter. I wonder if she is not happy to go.

I think the F3 will surely be laila, apolo and joey.  I'm not sure if ian or billy ray will be the 4th. I thikn ian is stronger. But he needs to step things up. He has the potential to be quite good. But unless he loosens up he could be gone soon. I think john will go next though.

DR TCB - I enjoy NCIS, but have only watched THE UNIT once.

I like the cast of NCIS - some of the stories not so much, but I enjoy seeing the people in the show including Mr David McCallum.

Since DR derBRUCER's comment about THE UNIT, perhaps I will give it a chance....but it seemed to me from the promos to be a DESPERATE ARMY HOUSEWIVES clone that I wasn't much interested in.

Referring to yesterday's TOD

I started on the internet in 1993 on Prodigy and tried AOL briefly and returned to prodigy. NOt a fan of AOL.

I have been on several usenet groups over the years including ones for Celtic music, soaps, genealogy and subgroups of genealogy including German, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada.

Prodigy Classic had a variety of different forums. I often frequented the soaps, sci-fi, theatre, and genealogy boards. They also had chatrooms and I would wander there also.

Have you ever seen a UFO?

Thanksgiving night, 1977.  Driving back from Indianapolis to Middletown, OH, my father swore he saw one in a cornfield along  Ohio Route 122.  We pulled off and watched until my mother and I convinced him otherwise, but I'm still not so sure....

Unidentified flying objects sailing through the air at some unsuspecting person yes.... However they are later identified as things ranging from rubberbands to clothes to food...

It depends on if the reading is open to the public. Even though they publicize the reading it may not be an open reading. If it's open to the public it's just a matter of making reservations or purchasing tickets.

If it's not a public reading, then you have to "know" someone. I do not know anyone involved but perhaps our better connected brethren, especially Jose, Fred (and the lovely Skip) or Larry may be able to help you.

My take on last night's "Idol":

Too much self-serving verbal diarrhea from Ryan Seacrest about the "gives back" aspect.  There's a 20hour show decoted to it tonight, for pity's sake.  Why cram it down our throats during what was SUPPOSED to be a competition night?

Best performances of the night:  Phil Stacy, Melinda, Dolittle, Jordin Sparks.

Chris was pretty good.  Lakisha wasn't bad.  The opening of her song was shaky, but she delivered the goods in the end.  I'm not so attached to Fantasia's version of anything that I couldn't appreciate Lakisha's vocal.

Blake's was the weakest.  Song wasn't right for his meager voice.  Arrangement was simple, but it required more power.  I was very disappointed Blake was doing this song...it required the vocal skills of someone like Melinda to make it really work well.

Goning home tonight?  NOT A CLUE.

I will stop in at the Equity office to see if there are free tickets for Journey's End. If so, I will go to the theatre also (my friend is not seeing Journey's End tonight). Happy Birthday DR Joey.

You know, Taylor Hicks was NEVER in the bottom two or three...and yet there were several Hicks performances that were dreadful.

Phil could very well sail into the top two, IMO.  He really connected with the viewers last week....and last night he was even better.    I am definitely excited by the prospect of hearing what he sings next.   If he's smart, he could really soar.

DR Ron Pulliam, how long do you cook your collards?  The cookbooks I've seen vary widely on this crucial point, and a genuine Southern gentleman acquaintance of mine claims you can't cook them for less than 3 hours, so I'm just curious...

Southerners do love to cook their collards in a pot on the stove.  Many actually cook them in an electric pot out on the back porch....the "aroma" is quite intense.

If one is cooking in a pot, it's a matter of knowing when to cover them and when to stir them and when to dish 'em up and serve 'em.  I think three hours is a bit much....BUT if they are SLOW cooking, I can appreciate the dedication to the concept.

Now it DOES make a difference how much you are cooking at the time.   I happen to buy my collards in a bag, already cut up, de-stemmed and in a quantity sufficient for three or four servings.

However, a mature collard plant can be E-normous...and might take far longer to cook -- and consume -- than my meager portions.

Pressure cooking is a wholly different thing...and the results are spectacular, IMO.

Sheesh.  There's no way I'm catching up around here.  I'm just booked too much at work.

In fact, there hasn't been a day this week that hasn't been shifted around, added to, or tweeked in some manner.  Saturday, Sunday and Monday all started with the phone ringing and waking me up - "Stephen, can you come in early?"

So I joked with Stacey that she'd be asking me to come in on Tuesday, which had been scheduled as a day off.  Oh, no, she swore that wouldn't happen.

And about half-way through my Monday shift, she's sheepishly asking me to come in on Tuesday, sure enough, because Andre has disappeared and they needed a cart wrangler.  My day off was shifted to Thursday.

Today I was supposed to have a short shift, only five hours.  Nope, make that six, they need me.  And Friday?  Yep, I'll be there from eight-thirty to five, wrangling carts again.

The good news is that I'm making good money, and when I'm outside we've had very good weather (so far).  Bad news?  My legs and feet ache, and yesterday I got a bit of sunburn.  And I'm getting ty-yerd.

One of elmore's favorites, John Jerome, has apparently written a book about his adventures as a thief, record producer, label owner, savior of cabaret, launcher of careers.  There is a website for the book and it becomes readily apparent that there is no publisher or publishing date for the book (it's a little odd to have a book site before there's a book, no?), and the copy that's written about the book is clearly and self-servingly written by him or someone close to him.

Thank you to FJL, Jose, Ginny, and anyone else I may have missed, for the good  vibes.  However, please don't waste their power on me.  There are a lot of others here (Keith's mother, Dakota's dad, elmore vs. the macbeth's, Jane's travel, MusicGuy and MBarnum's travel, etc., etc., etc.) that need them more than I do.

I will, however, gladly accept them for Angel and Nicky.

My question of the day:  I have always capitalized the I when writing Internet.  Is that correct?  If so, why?  If not, why?  What is the most used form today?

According to one of the definitions on Dictionary.com:

Internet (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/internet) networking
(Note: capital "I"). The Internet is the largest internet (with a small "i") in the world. It is a three level hierarchy composed of backbone networks, mid-level networks, and stub networks. These include commercial (.com or .co), university (.ac or .edu) and other research networks (.org, .net) and military (.mil) networks and span many different physical networks around the world with various protocols, chiefly the Internet Protocol.
Until the advent of the World-Wide Web in 1990, the Internet was almost entirely unknown outside universities and corporate research departments and was accessed mostly via command line interfaces such as telnet and FTP. Since then it has grown to become an almost-ubiquitous aspect of modern information systems, becoming highly commercial and a widely accepted medium for all sort of customer relations such as advertising, brand building, and online sales and services. Its original spirit of cooperation and freedom have, to a great extent, survived this explosive transformation with the result that the vast majority of information available on the Internet is free of charge.
While the web (primarily in the form of HTML and HTTP) is the best known aspect of the Internet, there are many other protocols in use, supporting applications such as electronic mail, Usenet, chat, remote login, and file transfer.
There were 20,242 unique commercial domains registered with InterNIC in September 1994, 10% more than in August 1994. In 1996 there were over 100 Internet access providers in the US and a few in the UK (e.g. the BBC Networking Club, Demon, PIPEX).
There are several bodies associated with the running of the Internet, including the Internet Architecture Board, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, the Internet Engineering and Planning Group, Internet Engineering Steering Group, and the Internet Society.

JRAND,

From my friend Dave, the UFO-watcher:

I was flying a single engine plane from
Columbus Ohio to the southern tip of Florida.  The incident occurred at
night.  Distances are very hard to judge at night so I really don't know how
close 'it' was.  It appeared as a very bright light moving on a path
parallel to ours.  We tried to report it to air traffic control but could
not communicate.  Our communications returned only after it had disappeared.
I don't really remember how long it was with us, but I will guess several
minutes at least.

Depending on what you define as a UFO???

Aliens no....

Flying cows, yes
Unidentified flying objects sailing through the air at some unsuspecting person yes.... However they are later identified as things ranging from rubberbands to clothes to food...

BTW, any rumours of me being involved in food fights are wildly exaggerated!

Strangest flying object.....  Cow dung!

Oh, my, DAKOTA. You do live an interesting life!

My question of the day:  I have always capitalized the I when writing Internet.  Is that correct?  If so, why?  If not, why?  What is the most used form today?

Bruce,
I concur with most of what George's reference says. The Internet was actually called the ARPAnet for many years, after ARPA, the Advanced Research Projects Agency IIRC. (Der B, do you recall?) At that time it was private, but provided a means to communicate and pass files among the various Naval labs and many universities.

I have always capitalized the I. However, if you consult a number of style manuals on a given word or usage you will often find a divergence--each purporting to be the correct form. When I was manager of a technical publishing group my technical editor and I put together a style guide for our group, just so we'd have consistency. For your purposes, I'd say choose the form you prefer, then stick with it.
Title: Re:TOO POOPED TO POP
Post by: Jeanne on April 25, 2007, 12:09:37 PM
As for what most people use, you'll find little consistency. I have friends in Canada who call it the "'net". George's reference distinguishes between what we all think of as the Internet and other internets. From that standpoint, capitalize the "I".

I'm not most people but that's what I use. I think you're correct. You are your own style manual since you work for yourself. The Chicago Manual of Style says it it correct to capitalize Internet. If they do it in Chicago, you can do it in Los Angeles

DR Jose, I don’t think Craig or I could hope with his knowingly driving without a license, or insurance, unless it was an emergency.  I will drive as far as I can, if we have to stop then at least we will be that much closer to our destination in the morning.  What time does it get dark back east these days?  I have to drive through the mountains!!  I will probably get carsick even if I’m driving.  How far into the drive do we reach the mountains, and when do we get out of them?

We need to get to Pittsburgh as quickly as possible to find him housing around the school.  It won’t be easy with a dog & I expect many of the places will be taken by then.  We need to try and find a doggie day care, hopefully get him a driver’s permit, etc.  I’m very anxious to get there & don’t look forward to even one more hotel.  If I can’t make it we will stop along the way.

Thanks for all you help.  I like knowing what I have gotten myself into.

John should go next.  I didn't think his fan base was that big, but I guess it's bigger than Heather's.  I haven't liked either Ian or Joey.  Well I haven't liked Billy Ray or John either, lol.   I guess you could say I want Laila and Apolo to win.

Then back to NY on Sun the 1st.  Then on to DR Cillaliz's neck of the woods [I think] on the 3rd or 4th of July.

Where?  That will be my first week of freedom

When used as an adjective - ie internet connection - it is not capitalized.

She seems to have had a steady fall from "the one to beat" to now.

The voice is there for sure, but she's had a knack for making TERRIBLE song choices and then singing them all the same - power, power, power. Very rote and very dull. And as the weeks have passed, I've noticed she has poor breathing habits while singing while clips phrases in half and makes her sound amateurish.

ARPA, the Advanced Research Projects Agency IIRC. (Der B, do you recall?) At that time it was private, but provided a means to communicate and pass files among the various Naval labs and many universities.
Oh yes, I remember it well....

There was much discussion about the potential for moving classifed information electronically.

I spent a good deal of time watching a good portion of THE SOUND OF MUSIC today. Again, I synched up the two versions and switched back and forth. The Five Star Edition is definitely a darker transfer; the 40th Anniversary one lighter, softer, with colors popping a bit more. The Five Star is also somewhat grainier than the newer one, too.

I ended up watching much of the film from the Five Star Edition when I tired of switching back and forth. The transfer has a Dolby Digital 5.0 track (no dedicated bass track for the subwoofer), but I heard some nice bass during the thunderstorm sequence and at other portions of the music.

I fear Lakisha may be the one going home tonight.  It ought to be Chris or Blake, neither of whom has vocal talent to match the rest of the finalists.

We seem to be heading for a Melinda, Jordin, Phil top three.

But then what? Melinda and Jordin might well split a constituency, leaving Phil standing for the last round.

DR Jane - I'm about to meet DR singdaw for dinner.. but...

You basically hit the mountains about 30 miles on 270, and once you're on I-70, then, it is mountains for a good chunk of the drive.  Well, as least big hills, so...

Do you have AAA?  They can give you a topical map.  Additionally, you might want to check out the Dr. Gridlock column archives at WashingtonPost.com for alternate routes.  Or even check with your car insurance company and see if they have some sort of trip advisor to help you out.

OK... gotta go.  More....

Laters..

I know the judges have been much kinder to Chris the past couple of weeks.  He HAS stepped up his game.

Last night, Paula commented that Blake's performance was something "new" in his repertoire...a softer, gentler side that we haven't seen before.   She obviously has killed off ALL her short-term memory cells....because Blake gave us one of those softer, gentler performances LAST WEEK...and found himself in the bottom 3.

I would be fine with a Melinda-Jordin-Phil final three. It seems obvious to me that the judges are really behind Jordin now. She's young, has a big voice, and sparkles. She's a diamond in the rough as far as I'm concerned, but they seem to have gotten into her corner in the last three weeks and tend to overlook her flaws in singing her praises.

And I think she does have the second best voice on the show. I think the judges (and the producers) feel she's going to fit their target audience more than Melinda or Phil would.

New Airline Offers $10 Tickets on All Flights (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,268265,00.html)

Quote
Skybus Airlines Inc., a new U.S. budget carrier, on Tuesday said it will start flying on May 22 with $10 one-way tickets available on all flights.

"Beginning today, passengers can buy airline tickets for less than the cost of a tank of gas," Skybus CEO Bill Diffenderffer said in a statement.

The launch of the new low-cost carrier, which is based in Columbus, Ohio, could pressure established carriers like AMR Corp's (AMR) American Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc..

Skybus, which plans to acquire more than 70 aircraft over the next five years, hopes to be able to undercut rivals by selling advertising space inside and outside its planes and charging for priority seating and checking bags.

It keeps costs down by only taking reservations over the Internet and not staffing a call center.

The start-up carrier, which has raised $160 million from investors, will have at least 10 seats available for $10 on its flights through December 15. The $10 tickets don't include taxes and fees.

Last-minute fares run as high as $330, spokesman Bob Tenenbaum said.

Skybus plans to fly initially from Columbus to Burbank, California; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Richmond, Virginia; and Kansas City, Missouri.
On May 29, it plans to add service to Bellingham, Washington; Greensboro/Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Fort Lauderdale.
In June, Skybus plans to begin flying to Oakland, California.

I'm waiting for Greg to get done with his shoot. We're off to the Atlanta Film Festival. (He has 2 films in the fest this year.)

Tonight is a documentary about Stranger Malone, a local musician who is listed in the Guiness book of World Records as having the longest music recording career. Sadly, Stranger passed on last year at 95, but he was amazing--could play almost any insturment in any style--classical to bluegrass, and had an amazing memory. He was still taking the bus carrying his intruments, from Rome GA to Atlanta, well into his 90's

The name of the book: "A Live Well-Lived".

We identified about 45 species of birds today.

What a great restaurant speciality item:

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.

No two species alike!

DR Ginny - I believe the reading for 9 to 5 will be by invitation only.  I've been interesting in seeing it too, and I've worked for that casting agency before, so...  I'll see if I can see if there will be any public seats available, but I have a feeling that since this will be the first presentation of the material on it's feet that it will be a "closed reading".

My late ask BK question

On your recording of the title song from SMILE (Lost In Boston 1) I was wondering why you made the following choices for the recording:

There are difference in lyrics and lack of lyrics in the recording.

Where you have a tap break on the recording instead there is a refrain that begins with:
WALK WITH ME
THROUGH THE HALLWAYS OF MEMORY
A PICTORIAL GALLERY
OF THIS MARVELOUS YEAR...

Why was this dropped in favor of the tap break? And why a tap break when there was none at this moment in the show?

Then at the end of the song; the last verse
SO HOLD REAL STILL
WHEILE WE SAVOR THIS SPECIAL CHILL
AND THE MAN WITH THE CAMERA WILL
RECORD THAT
SMILE
C'MON KID
SMILE
OKAY KID
SMILE

is dropped in favor of lyrics later used in the reprise when they show the photos of the contestants beginning with #9 to #15 (The nude photo of Maria)

PUT THIS MOMENT ON FILE
GET OUR MOMENT ON FILE
AND IF EVER A COLD WIND BLOWS
YOU CAN TURN TO YOUR LONG AGOS
TO FIND THAT
SMILE
C"MON KID
SMILE
OKAY KID SMILE
I WANT THAT
I NEED THAT
I LOVE THAT SMILE

Why was this moment chosen?

We did the music and lyrics that were provided.  The "walk with me" section was not included, nor would I have included it, as it interrupts the flow of the number as we were presenting it.  The tap break was my idea (obviously) and just something I thought would help make it seem like a big production number.  When we did the Unsung Musicals EFA benefit, it was our opening number and was done full out with all the tapping and it brought the house down.

I'm going to Disney World!   Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll have time to see anything there, lol.   I wasn't going to go to the AILA annual meeting due to $$$, but after talking to a number of people and looking at what I can learn there, I decided that it's worth it.   The sessions go pretty much all day with events at night (one night until 10:00 PM) , so although I'll be there, I really don't think I'll get to see anything.  Funny, I don't care about that, I'm just anxious to learn what I need to learn. They expect 3000 people at this conference.  WOW! I've never been to a conference with that many people

I got so curious about the reports that the LEGALLY BLONDE changes had been for the worse that i went back to see it again.  Noted a few changes while they were happening, but I don't remember the specifics now.  A lot of things that got riotous laughs in the first week of previews did not this time, and oddly Laura Bell Bundy's entrance (or rather, first appearance) did not get applause at all this time.  Wonder if it's the audience composition that has changed, not the show.

I have been meaning to comment on FREUD for the last two days since bk started mentioning it.

I saw it on TV many years ago and was very impressed with it. I was especially impressed that Clift got through it at all since in both biographies of him I've read, the authors each mentioned how cruel and vicious John Huston was with Montgomery CLift during the production. He bullied and browbeat the poor man who was already in frail health, not only from drinking and addiction to pain killers but also suffering with cateracts in both eyes.

Huston had been much gentler with him during THE MISFITS, perhaps because Marilyn was as delicate and fragile as Clift, but he was the devil incarnate on FREUD according to Clift's biographers.

My Bond DVDs did come today, so I began my evening with FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

It looked sensational, a tremendous step up from the special edition DVD of the title. Not a speck of dust anywhere to be seen, and the DTS sound, while maybe not quite as impressive a redo as on DR. NO, still had a lot of heft to it compared to the old mono track on the special edition. I just loved it.

What a fantastic day I had! I went back to Eddie Brandt's store to continue my search for photos for upcoming magazine interviews. I was there for about 3 hours! In the first hour a trio came in and one of them was, although I didn't realize it, former kid actor Sammy Ogg who played one of the two little kids on the I LOVE LUCY episode THE AMATEUR HOUR and he played Joe on SPIN AND MARTY! Well, it just so happens he is on my list of people I have been wanting to interview! LOL! We started chatting while he was in the store and that is when I found out who he was. He was trying to find some photos of the other kid from that episode as the two of them will be attending a Lucy wingding back east.

About an hour later a very nicely dressed older couple came in looking for photos of Roger Smith. I started chatting with them and asked the lady if she knew him or was a fan. Well, she says that she worked with him. I asked if she was an actress and she said yes, my name is Sally Todd! "Holy cow" I said, "You were in THE UNEARTHLY with Allison Hayes." She was quite happy that I knew who she was, and of course I have seen her in many films (GI Blues, Frankenstein's Daughter, Viking Women and the Sea Serpent)! So I will be interviewing her as well! We chatted for a very long time and the man that was with her went and brought back his camera and snapped photos of us and promised to e-mail them to me! And let me be telling you, Sally Todd still looks stunning!!!

All I kept thinking of was, I wish JRAnd56 were here with me!

When Bond finished, I put in A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS. I haven't watched it in years, couldn't even remember what kind of transfer this first DVD release was. Even though it's an old release, Columbia did an anamorphic transfer so it looks pretty strong. Yes, there were scenes where it's obvious the transfer is dated, but much of the color is more saturated than I remember it being, and it's also sharper than I remembered, too. This DVD will do me just fine; no need to upgrade.

LOST had a great episode that centered on Sun who has always been one of my favorite characters. I loved the different side of her we saw at the end of her backstory sequence talking with Jin's mother.

More enigma in the other story in this episode, the rescue of the unknown woman speaking all kinds of languages. Just another mystery for the island that we'll hopefully one day get some answers for.

As for "American Idol"...

I just watched the "results show"...  But back to last night's show...

I really thought Jordin did not sound good last night.  Her pitch was off.  She had breathing difficulties.  And her belting was more like screaming.  I was VERY surprised that the judges praised her so much.  As were most of the cast of All About Us - we watched in the green room today.

However, as for Lakisha...  I just get the feeling she doesn't really want "it" that bad.  I think she wants to have some degree of fame, but I don't she wants to be a "superstar".  And if she were to win, I don't think she would be able to take all the pressure and attention.

*And if I were to grow it out even longer, if I placed a light bulb in my mouth, my head would look like one of those fiber-optic lamps.  ;D

Of course, there is always a different opinion from an outside source...... Like -- you happen to be the most attractive person in that group.  Radiant smile, and a face that gives "cuteness" a whole new meaning!!

Just my opinion.......:)

Jose, just check out the photograph of our group where I look like I weigh 300 pounds - it's the angle and the shirt and bad posture in my photo - while I have put back on weight, I'm not near where I was last year at this time.

Photos - they can be very confusing and misleading, can't they?   A lesson for all dear readers to remember.

I know, I know.

-I've been thinking about getting back on track, as it were, for the past couple of weeks.  It's not just the pic.  I've just been too darn busy to start and keep with any program right now.

However, I really do wish I had gotten my hair cut this morning.  I'm so used to it being short - "1 on the sides, 3 on the top" - that whenever it is "long", I just feel shaggy.

So, no more comments about my comments about my pic.  OK?

That's a great story, MBarnum!

Yes, poor BK slouched just as that photo was taken by the hunky busboyman...indeed BK was looking quite youthful and fit.

I'm watching "Medium" and they had a scene where this little girl was watching TV and it was a clip from "Frasier," with David Hyde Pierce and "Medium" producer, Kelsey Grammer. :)

Getting "enough" sleep is supposed to help with a person's memory.
