Title: HOO AND RAY, IT'S MAY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very May-like, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - I hear tell it may be May.

Topic of the Day:

The absolute MOST exciting thing that EVER happened to me in the month of May occurred on Cinco de Mayo in 1966...I was born!!  And then on Cinco de Mayo in 1967, I turned one year old!  And then on Cinco de Mayo in 1968, I turned TWO years old!! Etc., etc., etc., etc.... ;D

Well, you get the picture.

Well...I don't think that happened in May. ;)

On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens blew...that was pretty darned exciting! ::) Of course, that didn't specifically happen to me.

The "Taming of the Shrew" audition went as well as could be expected. ::) I've never acted in a Shakespeare play or performed in the commedia dell'arte-style, which is how they're doing it.  There were several auditioners who were VERY good.  I think that the whole title is going to be something like "Taming of the Shrew...in HELL!"  The show is going to be shortened a bit and visually reinterpreted, while still using Shakespeare's original language.  Pug (the director) wanted people to come back tonight if they can and Thursday will be the call-backs, if she needs them.  So, it's not quite over, yet.

Congrats to our lovely Cillaliz!

It's an old fashioned Barber Shop right in your building. That's cool. I still go to a barber, not a stylist. I don't have enough hair to warrant paying $50 or more for a haircut, plus if I can't wash it and dry it and walk out the door, I ain't gonna get it cut fancy (I sound like some redneck  ;))

I forgot to mention that yesterday I met the other lawyer in town who does some immigration. He's also in the same building, but he's only been a lawyer for a few years and he hasn't really gotten his name out, at least not the way I have been.

He seemed very pleased to hear I'm going to do immigration, he had that look on his face like, "oh thank god I'll have someone to ask questions" He's also going to Disneyworld, so I'm hoping we can talk and get to know each other a little there.

Good morning, all! Yesterday had some interesting events, mostly centered around a vitriolic hateful email filled with lies by a delusional Fat Conductor of Enormous Ego and Little Talent whose career is on the skids.  While I wasn't at all surprised to receive it since Maestro the Whale has been causing trouble for a month now, I was both amused and amazed at the number of lies in his allegations about me that he actually committed to print.  So, I sent the email around to a lot of friends who know or who have worked with the jerk.  There's probably some sort of libel claims I could pursue, but since the IRS is already trying to collect money, I might win the suit but I wouldn't collect any damages.

The funniest part of the email is when he tells me my work he's used in the past is so bad that he had to revise and rescore it: given that he's notorious for his inability to hear wrong notes, knows nothing about musical theory, and I have my original scores with nothing changed between them and the recordings, I believe the Maestro is crumbling faster than a year-old Girl Scout Cookie. I've had to clean up his work, and all the wrong notes, on several shows for the Cole Porter Trust and the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.  I won't even go into the number of jobs he's been fired from.

Then, to add insult to injury, the Macbeths are still acting up.  Trouble comes in threes. What's next?

So, today, I'm off to the Shubert Archive to examine the original materials for the Gershwin-Harburg-Arlen revue LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40.  It will be fun to see the materials and visit with two good friends.  I'm hoping Marc Swartz, the author of OZ BEFORE THE RAINBOW, will be there today.  I love his book and I'll ask him to sign it.

TOD:  May is a month with no memories. Heigh ho.

My thoughts go out to Audra McDonald (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/107739.html) and her family.

Have any DRs tried to perform in the midst of grieving?  I'm torn between thinking it would be next to impossible and that it might also be a great comfort.

I knew I wanted to sing Maltby & Shire's If I Sing at my father's memorial service, but knew I'd never get through it live, so I pre-recorded it and they played it through the sound system, with the words printed in the service leaflet.  I got many comments afterward that people who attended found it very meaningful.

This may sound trivial to some, but since May 2 is my birthday, I'd guess the most fun thing to happen to me in May was on my 40th birthday in 2000.  We had gotten a room at the Dolphin in Disney World which overlooked Epcot, and I was up with the sunrise and got to see the sunrise over Epcot highlighting the big "2000" on Spaceship Earth.  I'm sure lots of exciting things have happened in Mays over the years, including turning in my law school written work (a major, important accomplishment in its day 24 years ago), but that Epcot memory on my 40th birthday remains one of the wonderful May memories that has stayed with me, at least for the moment.

Singdaw, I didn't "perform" at my father's funeral although I did deliver the eulogy and I included part of the last speech from "I Never Sang for My Father" (death ends a life but it does not end a relationship which struggles on in the survivor's mind toward some resolution he may never find). I had just "retired" from the business and I considered it in some ways a performance. It's difficult but very fulfilling in a way.

When one of my best friends died in 1988 (the first person I actually knew who died from AIDS) many people performed at his memorial, me included. That, actually, was more difficult than giving my father's eulogy. I did a monologue from a play he had written for me and I got through it but just barely. His memorial was at the old Equity Library Theatre (long closed) on 103rd Street and Riverside Drive.

Jose -  Too bad we didn't know you back then.  I really feel my travel experiences have been better since I've been here on HHW to ask questions in advance.

If we hadn't stayed at the Dolphin in 2000, I wouldn't have had that memorable sunrise on Epcot experience.  But service-wise, for Dolphin Hotel prices, it was a frustrating trip.  We've had much better times at the Contemporary and the Polynesian.

We finished watching Slings and Arrows last night. We had a three night marathon watching two episodes Saturday, two Sunday and the final two last night. It was a good way to end the series. I do appreciate the British and Canadian sensibility that you don't have to run a series into the ground. 3 seasons of 6 episodes each is fine. You don't necessarily need 15 or 18 episodes over 10 or 11 years. The well dries up (IMHO)

This is kind of interesting - reported in the NY Times:

New Law to Protect Critics From Being Misquoted

The European Commission has passed legislation that would keep bad reviews from looking good, the London newspaper The Independent reported. The measure, to take effect in December, will make it illegal for advertisers to misquote reviewers by taking a positive word or phrase from a theater review if it gives a misleading sense of the whole review. The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive bars advertising that includes “false information” or any claim that “deceives or is likely to deceive the consumer” and thus “causes or is likely to cause him to take a transactional decision that he would not have taken otherwise.” Helen Kearns, the commission’s spokeswoman on consumer affairs, said the measure would be “policed on a case-by-case basis” by the Office of Fair Trading. “It should apply to misleading advertising right across the board,” she added, “from airline tickets to theater tickets.”

Tuesday morning greetings!  It's a beautiful morning here in SW Ohio.

TOD - No question, May 6, 1972, the day I received my Bachelor's degree from The University of Michigan (Go Blue!).  I was the first in my immediate family and one of the first in any of my family to graduate from college.  It wasn't until more than a year later, when I began working professionally in higher education, that I learned how significant that is in family demographics.

More recently, 8 years ago today my mother arrived in Ohio to move into a retirement community near us.  She'd lived in Phoenix for 13 years and decided that she was getting to the age where she wanted to be closer to my sister (in Michigan) and me.  It's such a delight to have her nearby.  When I moved to Ohio 34 years ago, I never dreamed that 1) I'd still be here, and 2) my elderly relatives would follow me here (my aunt moved to the same retirement community 2 years ago, but not in May).

May 7th, 1995, I received the first-ever Distinguished Alumni Award from my alma mater's (University of Kentucky) College of Arts & Science.  Wore the cap and gown and made the commencement speech, the whole thing.

Julieanne & I for a whole slew of years when out in California threw our annual Kentucky Derby party the first Saturday in May which became an expected tradition and grew to about 60 or so guests.  The party delighted and baffled our California friends, especially when the core Kentucky contingent would get all weepy singing My Old Kentucky Home.

Since coming back here, however, where Derby Parties are overflowing and many people actually go to the Derby, we quickly realized the Derby does not have the same mystique as it did in California, so we will have to find a new warm weather party tradition.

Another May memory.  Julieanne and I arrived in London one year on May 1st.  While she took a jet-lag nap, I went out to pick up some tickets at the National for some theatre that night.   As I crossed Waterloo Bridge, I noticed a peculiarly strong police presence.  "Hmmm," I pondered.  "Perhaps, some member of the Royal family is touring something near by."  I got my tickets and walked down the South Embankment to cross at Westminster Bridge.

As I crossed the bridge and walked toward the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the first thing  I noticed awry was the traffic cone on the statue of Bodicea's head.  As I continue down toward White Hall, more police, debris, and the statue of Winston Churchill was sporting a turf mohawk and decorated with grafitti.

I continue through a gauntlet of riot-geared police up Whitehall toward Trafalgar Square where some sort of activity had occurred.  The windows of the MacDonald's had been smashed out.  Querying a shop owner, I realized I had just missed by minutes a May Day Riot which was still brewing up near Trafalgar.

Before I got there (not that I was going to go there now), the street was cordoned off and I had to cut through Charing Cross Station and continue up the Strand practically back to Waterloo Bridge and then zip through Covent Garden to get back home without having the riot converge on me.  The riot was quickly quelled and we walked to the theatre that night with no problem at all.

Lovely pictures from DR LAURA, as usual.

DR CILLA LIZ will be practicing law in the Frances Farmer Building, and somehow it seems more than appropriate!  FF's father Ernest was an attorney and in fact she entered college thinking she might study law, switched to journalism, and then switched to theatre.

DR Jennifer....have to say I used to hate Myrna or is it Mirna, but I don't anymore.  I think it would be kind of cool if they won.

I think it's Mirna.

It worries me that they are trying to edit her nicer and nicer. I think it is going to be a run to the finish between her and the beauty queens.

I watch the editing. And in the beginning they did not show her as nice. Then they did for a couple of episodes. Then the showed her being obnoxious again. But last episode they were trying to make her seem nice again.  Apparently they also play mean music when the BQs come on and sweet music when charla/mirna come on (manipulation anyone?).

I do find them hilarious. And i am glad they are on the show (although i wish they had been eliminated weeks ago).  The thing is i almost always want the strongest team to win.  And i really think a lot of their good fortune has been due to luck.  So i really don't want them to win.

I like the month of May.

In May, 1985, I received a telephone call telling me that my play MY HAND IS NOT MY HEART had been chosen as a winner of the Festival of Emerging American Theatre and would be produced that summer.

In May, 1989, I spent 10 days in Dundalk, Ireland (and two in London) as a member of the cast of MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM representing America in a theatre competition.

My mother died about a month before I began my role in FOREVER PLAID. She wouldn't have been able to come to the show, but I had every intention of taking a tape of the show to her so she could see it. Instead, I dedicated my performance in the show to her in the program.

I've been reading conflicting reviews about the return of VERONICA MARS tonight. The USA TODAY critic doesn't like the stand alone episodes at all. The TV GUIDE critic likes them very much. I can't wait to see for myself. I'll probably watch it "live" tonight and record LAW & ORDER: CI and HOUSE which are on opposite it.

I'm rather dreading IDOL tonight. Rock music is the theme. Of course, that encompasses a broad spectrum of music, but none of the six remaining contestants are what I would think of as a rock artist. So, the results may be all over the map, and with the voting allegedly so close, it's pretty scary that this genre is coming up now.

Just curious...when you pre-order new releases, do you find that you generally receive them on the release day?  If not, how much of a lag time do you generally experience?

I have no patience, so I usually try to go to a brick and mortar on a release day, but more and more lately that is proving frustrating, too...

Had the Tyrone Power box NOT been "emptied" by persons unknown, I would probably have gotten it today...which would have been the second "recent" item I'd received on the release date.

This used to be the "rule" with Amazon, but things went awry for a while....I was often finding my pre-orders weren't going out AT ALL.  I once noted that a new release could be had "the next day" if one were to order in the next hour and 26 minutes.

I sent an e-mail asking why my "pre-ordered copy" had not yet been shipped at a time they were offering folks a next-day copy of it if they ordered "right now."

I got a song-and-dance response I did not take kindly to...and I let them know (a la BK) how unacceptable the response was in its not dealing with the issue and ignoring the specifics of my complaint.

My pre-order was shipped post-haste and I got it that week (in two days).

I had a couple of other occasions to question Amazon about the sluggishness behind pre-order shipments.  I got the impression they thought they were doing a good job, but I informed them I knew people who ordered an item on the weekend before its release and got the item a day after the release date...while I, having pre-ordered weeks (if not months) in advance, was still waiting to be notified of a shipment.  I considered that a disservice and said so.

They've been much better about filling my pre-orders since then.

It's my understanding that Disney is now involved in discussions about whether to remove "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" from future home video release schedules.

Many concerns have been raised about one of the songs in the movie and suggestions have come in that lyrics be overdubbed -- or that the entire song be removed -- to rid the film of offensive language that might result in civil suits.

Various national organizations have released statements condemning or praising the Disney organization for these considerations.   It seems that everyone is divided over what the lyrics really mean when the Dwarfs sing "Hi-Ho! Hi-Ho! It's off to work we go!"

Critics have suggested that the song is a disguised slur on the character of women everywhere and that the Dwarfs are singing to all womankind as "ho's".

You know you're a redneck when you need to washout your oatmeal bowl in oder to get your haircut.

I had expectations (Oh my, yes! E-x-p-e-c-t-a-t-i-o-n-s!) that I'd receive my DVD box of Tyrone Power movies today.

I received a shipping notification over the weekend.  So, this morning, I "tracked" my UPS shipment to see if it was "out for delivery".

What I found, instead:

04/30/2007  9:06 P.M.  MERCHANDISE IS MISSING. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH ADDITIONAL DETAILS.;ALL MERCHANDISE MISSING, EMPTY CARTON WAS DISCARDED. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH DETAILS OF THE DAMAGE

Aughghghghghghghghghghghghghghghghgh!

That sucks!!

Perhaps we should don out tights, sing a madrigal, and dance 'round the May pole?

Those of us who are no longer in the closet can don "out tights", the others will have to wear "uptights".

FJL-Since your birthday is in May then I would hope you would have nice memories of your special day.  It isn’t trivial at all.

I had two wedding showers in May, those were memorable, mostly because of the people who gave them and my excitement of the upcoming event.

My mother died on May 20, 1982.  We had just moved so Keith stayed home with his new job & the pets while the boys & I caught the next flight home.  The funeral was a nightmare for me.  That was a terrible May.  The week before my mother died our long time, 16 year old, baby sitter died, description is not needed.

So FJL, I really enjoyed your “trivial” description of your birthday.

CP-I’m glad you missed the riot.

I can't think any more august, eximious company I'd rather spend May Day with!

[sorry, DR der Brucer...couldn't figure out how to re-work that construction to avoid the final preposition!]

Step One: Give yourself some credit and replace "I can't think any more..." with "I can think of no more..."

Step Two: go for the gold by ending with: "...company with whom I'd rather spend May Day."

Give 'em Hell!!

Best buy a number of years ago would not replace a  computer I had back in the late 1990s  that had been a piece of junk and had been in for numberable repairs, etc. I was called everything under the sun including an idiotic woman when they said I was stupid and did not know how to use a computer. I gave the guy one heck of a dirty look. The gist of the whole of exchange is that they did not want to honor their "Lemon" policy and warranty.  Dumb ass is what I nearly called him but I was not going to give him the satisfaction of running over me. I called corporate headquarters and a gal I knew in the ND AG office at the teh time. They were not amused and they were consideringpursuing discrimintation charges against the Fargo Best Buy. However, I called the corporate headquarters and gave them a choice either honor the warranty or they could deal with Heidi... ..

I documented all the repairs and the conversations with the homonids involved.

They asked who she was and I said the AG of ND... All consumer complaints in ND are handled through the AG office.

After that comment I detected a distinct change in their behavior and they quickly honored the warranty and I got a new computer.

I just had a very pleasant customer service experience with Amazon!

I had ordered the BBC [non-musical] version of Sweeney Todd.  It has been in the USPS system as "in transit" since April 11th.  No further delivery information available; apparently they like it in New Jersey and plan to keep it there indefinitely.

So I clicked on a link at the Amazon site.  Instantly, I got a call from Amazon and was immediately connected to a rep [who already had my account up on their screen] who reviewed the situation and is shipping me a replacement copy today.

As much as we gripe about customer service these days, it's important to note the success stories, too!

We actually did that at school when I was younger. It was a big to-do on the High School lawn that took half of a Saturday. The girls parents went broke buying fancy dresses and the guys bitched about the recess time lost to rehearsals. The streamers were multi-colored so at the end we had a "gaily colored pole".

Not much to tell.  We were up most of the night because something they gave Mom didn't agree with her tummy.  So I didn't go to work.

I had a little drama myself.  I didn't feel right last night and worse this morning.  Kinda sick to my stomach as well but worse that funny pain I sometimes get in my chest and down my left arm and in the palm of my hand.  The nurse took my BP but it was fine.  It's stress.  I know.  They gave me some OJ and I laid down for a little bit then I felt a bit better.

Don't worry--I'm fine.  I promise.

I just worry about what's going to happen with Mom.  As this goes on they are talking about sending her home again.  I wish they would make up their minds one way or the other.  But if she goes home, I know she won't have the kind of care she gets here.  You know we don't have AC or heat and that worries me.  I worry about her being alone.  I worry about if someone comes to the door will she fall trying to get to it if they send a nurse and I'm at work?

I know a hospital bed won't even fit in our living room.  I don't even think they could get it in the front door.  We almost could't get the new fridge in the front door--they had to take the door off.

It's just a worry if they keep her and another if they let her go.

So I'm a little stressed but not to worryl  :)  I'll handle it.

DR Nursie, that's good news!  Will she be well taken care of?

She can use her walker to get to get around and, most important of all, use the bathroom.  I called her doctor's office to work with the insurance and get her a nurse to help her bathe.  Maybe even to some physical therapy.

At her request, Keith's brother moved in with her several years ago and cooks, cleans, etc.  They seem to be very happy with the arrangement.

I'm sure some DRs remember the stunt David Merrick pulled - don't remember which show - where he didn't like the critic's reviews, so he went out and found ordinary folks with the same names as the critics, and used their [positive] pull-quotes for his print campaign.

That was for SUBWAYS ARE FOR SLEEPING, I believe.

I watched last night's CSI: MIAMI where to my heart's distress, one of my favorite characters on the show got fired. I don't know if this firing is permanent or if there is some kind of gamesmanship going on to trap a gambling ring in Miami.

At any rate, the case was pretty good last night, a man's death due to arson. Some great surprises and lots of suspects. I certainly did not have this one pegged at all.

If the mail had brought me WILL & GRACE/Tyrone Power earlier in the afternoon, I would have opted for one of them. Since the mail was late, I pulled out the newly remastered ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE.

The new print looks fine (a couple of scenes seem undersaturated) and is totally clean and artifact free. The new DTS soundtrack is grand making this seem like a new film. The old mono soundtrack just didn't match the grandeur of the Panavision and location stunts on the Alps and elsewhere.

I meant to mention this yesterday and it kept slipping my mind.

Yesterday on TCM, ANATOMY OF A MURDER was shown. It was presented properly in the  1.85:1 aspect ratio looking very different from the full screen version released by Columbia/Sony some years back.

I think it's time for them to reissue this in a correctly anamorphic edition. The TCM print, even without anamorphic enhancement, looked fabulous.

Here's some publicity about our favorite lady detective, Ms. Brenda Leigh Johnson and her hit series THE CLOSER:

"TNT is putting Brenda Johnson back on the case in June.

The cable network, along with sister station TBS, has announced premiere dates for its crime drama "The Closer" and several other series, stretching from early June into August.

"The Closer," which stars Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Johnson and is among the highest-rated series on cable, begins its third season at 9 p.m. ET Monday, June 18. It will be followed by a new drama, "Heartland," at 10 p.m. That series stars Treat Williams ("Everwood") as an organ-transplant surgeon and Kari Matchett ("24," "Invasion") as his ex-wife, a transplant coordinator.

A month later, TNT will roll out "Saving Grace," which stars Holly Hunter as an Oklahoma City detective who, after hitting bottom, encounters an angel (Leon Rippy, "Deadwood") who wants to help her put her life back together. The series will air at 10 p.m. Wednesdays starting July 18.

The network caps its summer with "The Company," a six-hour miniseries about the CIA during the Cold War. It stars Michael Keaton, Chris O'Donnell and Alfred Molina and will air in two-hour installments over three consecutive Sundays starting Aug. 5."

Gordon "Tarzan" Scott passed away this 4/30/07 (10:50 in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Hospital). Gordon had been hospitalized for several months recovering from heart valve surgery, among other things. Unfortunately, following surgery he had infections and was kept in ICU from time to time. Just recently the infections reoccurred and he (physically) fought to remove his IV whenever he could. In short, Gordon chose not to prolong his life. Ironically he died 1 day short of the anniversary of his close friend's passing, Steve Reeves. He was 80, father of 5, and penniless.

Ive actually been laughing with my colleagues today about the idiot.  I do worry that he's gone so far over the deep end he'll never get back.  I may even volunteer to be the star witness when he sues his shrink for malpractice. Did I already say that?

I can't give his name because it will end up at some point on the internet, but I will say it's an arrogant conductor who's been coasting for years on a non-deserved reputation as Mr Period Musical Theatre. In the meantime, he's managed to blame numerous others for his failures as a scholar, conductor, font of wisdom, and grand pooh-bah, al of which which have led to his unemployment and loss of recording contract because he's impossible to work with.

He sounds like a real poop!

I cancelled the rest of the SLINGS & ARROWS DVDs from my Netflix quay.  I used to think that I would gladly watch Paul Gross read the New York Telephone Directory for 24 straight hours; but I guess I was mistaken.  I just couldn't get into S & A.  Maybe I will wait a few months and try again.

Other than my mother's birthday on the 3rd (a woman of certain years) and my parents 50th Wedding anniversary on the 20th. Nothing much. They aren't celebrating. I think it has a lot to do with that they have outlived so many of their friends/spouses and especially my father's brother and 1st cousin were also married that same year and they didn't make it.

My  mother's birthday is also on May 3.  She would have turned 91 this Thursday if those two punk kids had not decided to go drag racing on that sunny January afternoon in 1994 and plowed into the car in which she was riding.  My grandmother's (my mom's mom) birthday is May 6.  Since she would have been 130 this year, I doubt we would have been celebrating this year.

That's awful! I'm so sorry. I know Amazon will replace it, but still!

My Tyrone Power boxed set came today as did Season Six of WILL & GRACE and the Tony Awards play set.

A Tony Awards play set?  Wow!  I want one of those!  Does it look like Radio City Music Hall or the Minskoff?  Does it come with a Nathan Lane or are figurines sold seperately?  How many tiny Tonys come with it?

DR Cillaliz, I've been remiss about commenting on all your news.  This is really neat.  Can I send you any office furniture catalogs I may have lying around the office?

Sure if you want to. I've been working with my scratch and dent guy. He's given me some fabulous deals on things I can't really find anything wrong with.   So far I have my desk, a leather couch for either my office or the reception area and 2 wingback chairs for wherever the sofa doesn't work.  I have followed up each visit by searching for the items on the internet and have discovered they were really incredibly good deals.  He thinks I'm funny and likes the way I think out loud about what I want to do.  I like the way he keeps discounting his discounts.

It's funny that you consider that a success.  While they did rectify your problem as soon as you called, APRIL 11TH was 3 WEEKS AGO.  That is completely unacceptable! (although i would have called the day after the item was scheduled to be delivered).

Whenever I order from Amazon, I choose the free shipping, where they estimate that it takes 3-5 days longer, but that's okay with me.  I don't mind it taking longer because it saves me a bit o' money.  AND I've always gotten what I've ordered before their estimated delivery date, so I'm happy about that.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR CILLALIZ on finding such a great office!

And, yes, you can mix traditional and contemporary furnishings quite successfully, IMHO.  I adore antiques, yet I have contemporary paintings.

How about mahagony furniture and oak walls? That's been the big dilemma right now. A little I think will be fine. The desk is mahagony and I'll have a little more. But I'm afraid to do too much mahagony with all those wood walls.

I had an interesting morning. The young pup banker who I thought was so rude yesterday called me to tell me they are processing a loan and I need to do a financial statement.  I told him I was offended by the way he treated me yesterday, that I went in asking about a small business loan, all he could tell me is I had to do a home equity loan.  He didn't ask any questions relevant to a business loan and really offended me.   So, I went to another bank. They took me seriously, asked the appropriate questions and have already told me I get the loan.

He started asking the terms whether it was secured/unsecured. I told him it was none of his business, that it isn't a home equity loan and that it wasn't my place to teach him how to do his job, but that my business accounts would now be going to the other bank.

He apologized but kept saying he did everything he could to help me.  I told him he didn't, that he didn't treat me as a business person and that I was offended. When he asked what they could do I said "Nothing". you have lost my business.

God that felt good.

Later, I ran into my new banker in the elevator (we're in the same building). When I asked him how long it would be until I had some news he said I got the loan. I said, "Great! How soon can I start spending it"  He laughed, shook his head and walked away.

Good Evening!

WHEW!

-I seemed to have said a lot today.

In short - and only because I don't want to make the long day even longer by describing it in detail - about 500 people showed up for today's call.  Since the turnout, in general, has been on the low side for open calls lately, we all thought today would not be that crazy.  Boy were we W-R-O-N-G!  Over 200 women were signed before we started at 10:00, and about 150 men were signed up for the afternoon slots.  So, we had to "type" - which, unfortunately, is a necessary evil at times in order to get through the day.  People were brought in the room in groups of 20, and then going by their look and their resume they were either "typed in" or "typed out".  Even before they sang a note.  :-\  Again, a necessary evil.

-And even with the typing, we ran into overtime.

Whew!

*But we saw some amazing people, and after the initial craziness died down, it was a good day.

WHEW!

(OK! - That's my last time saying, "Whew!")  ;)

One really interesting thing about today's audition session was that we had a lot of people in from Seattle, Portland and San Diego.  They all just happened to be in NYC for the week, and decided to come in to the audition.  One of the guys from San Diego - who's name I can't remember right now - had a bunch of La Jolla and Los Angeles credits on his resume.  I'm wondering if he and DR Cason had ever crossed paths.

LOL....no more rehearsing OUTSIDE or traipsing across the mud in costume to make an entrance.

It's like a real live thee-yater!

As for the desk....first a committee would have to be formed to study it and then make a recommendation that then after it had been discussed for hours would be voted down because one person didn't like it - even though said person would NEVER have to sit at, look at, or otherwise be involved with said desk.

So sad to hear about Tom Posten and Gordon Scott.

Mr Scott was indeed a terrific Tarzan.  He was also the one time husband of Vera Miles and the father of the child that forced her to drop out of VERTIGO.  Mr Hitchcock was not pleased.

Mr Posten was one of the original performers on Steve Allen's Man On The Street....unforgettable for those of us who saw it.

Song of Norway - "....takes up where 'The Sound of Music' leaves off...."

Advertising quote....

Rest of sentence in review:

"....in the realm of treacly family entertainment."

I loved this movie when I was in HS and saw it in the 70's. (I was a big Grieg fan, so...)

Now I realize that this review is correct.

My  mother's birthday is also on May 3.  She would have turned 91 this Thursday if those two punk kids had not decided to go drag racing on that sunny January afternoon in 1994 and plowed into the car in which she was riding.

I'm listening to The Fleetwoods.  I didn't know they were from Olympia WA and recorded in Seattle (as did the Ventures with "Walk Don't Run").

("Come Softly To Me" and "Mr Blue" (for those too young to know them)

Sometime in the 1990s, The Fleetwoods wanted to stage a comeback ("I hate that word...it's a return." ;)) and they hired local theater guru Jeff Kingsbury (of Capital Playhouse) to help them put together a new act and choreograph for them.  If I remember correctly, he started in with the choreography stuff but they soon decided that they just wanted him to teach them the steps, then they would perfect it on their own and not have to pay him for his services over the long haul.  He was, of course, livid!  He quit and I haven't heard any more about them since. ::)

How many episodes did you watch, DR TCB? I had some trouble getting into it, too, but stayed with it and now like it. I don't think I'll ever be a huge fan, but it has its moment--for me, at least.

I sort of enjoying DR Elmoore's on going soap opera.

Now if this was on Days Of Our Lives. The certain someone would be murdered. Elmoore will be arrested (of course he is innocent) there will be a trial. He will be convicted. Sentenced to die, but at last moment the real murderer confesses and turns out to be the guy who created Elmoore's website.

No wait. That's me. I wasn't near the guy, I only met him once and that was 15 years ago. It has to be someone involved in music. Maybe a piano player who knows John Kander

And who just might be a lesbian.

Stay tuned......

Finished Interlude.  Computer is now installing a security update that I believe it installed just five days ago - also a Quick Time update that I think it also installed.  Naturally, it requires a restart, which will the require me to actually restart the computer three times before I finally get the change all keychain thing to click on - until I click on that, I can't get the Internet to work.  It naturally does this in the evening when everyone at Apple is gone, so if there's a problem you're completely out of luck until the next morning.

Hopefully, there won't be a problem.

Since I had more than two hours before rpime time, I watched almost eight episodes of WILL & GRACE. They were among the funniest of the sixth season including that brilliant episode with Mira Sorvino playing the one woman Will slept with. Hilarious from start to finish.

The set also includes those episodes when Debra Messing was put on bed rest and was thus missing from most of the shows. Later episodes during this season have her coming back and VERY pregnant, but since Grace wasn't pregnant in the show (yet), she spent the rest of the season hiding behind big pillows, lamps, and flower arrangements. (Those episodes haven't started yet). I remember them as not being particularly funny, but there are quite a few in-jokes about Grace's gaining weight.

Idol surprised me tonight. Apart from Jordin who did give a quavery, off-putting rendition of "Livin' on a Prayer," everyone else pretty much sailed through the evening.

Well, Chris' rendition of "Wanted Dead of Alive" was a struggle, but he did get through it.

My order of finish:

1. Melinda (of course)

2. Phil

3. Blake

4. LaKisha

5. Chris

6. Jordin.

I do think it will be Chris and LaKisha who will go home (since two have to be eliminated tomorrow night.)

Why would you have to restart your computer three times?  -Although, it is a good idea to shut down and restart your computer from time to time to help clear out all the accumulated "stuff".

You can just download all the updates at once and do one reboot.

Additionally, the key chain prompt should not come up every time unless you checked a box in the security options when you set up your computer.

*And you can also set your computer to check for and install the updates during the day.  When Apple is open.  Or just check for them manually - which is what I do.

Thanks, Cilla!

This is going to be a "birthday week" for me.  Skip is crazy-busy tomorrow for most of the day, so we've decided to celebrate on Saturday.  Then I celebrate with my parents and brother on Sunday.

I vote you stop at the Little Pie Shop tomorrow for a little birthday pie!!

:-*

Did I tell you how Vixdad COMPLETELY forgot my birthday last year?  That evening I opened a present I had gotten in the mail from HIS mother and he said  "What's that for?"   ::)

This year I plan to have the Vixter drop hints for a week in advance!!! ;D

Oh, no, Vixmom! One must use a spouse's forgetting of one's birthday to one's advantage. My DH felt so guilty one year that he gave me a trip to Las Vegas the next month. He never forgot again.

Oh there was MUCH groveling, breast beating and scads of loot that showed up the next day!!!

That's a little too modern for me. I like wood

And it does have that "put your legs up in stirrups" look.

Well, I'm no longer a virgin.  I put my first order on Amazon.com today.  Oddly enough, it was for the first two seasons of Slings & Arrows which my Artistic Director here has been raving about...as well as a couple other items.

I spent a day sandwiched between Gordon Scott and Denny Miller at a Burroughs convention once, all three of us hawking our various wares.  I can't say that Gordo was the most scintillating of company.  Rather morose and sullen and pretty much all about the transaction.  On the other hand Denny is a swell guy and has become a good pal.  Gordo made much better Tarzan movies than poor Denny's one though.

Oh, Arthur, you've eaten more meat than anyone in this room.

Glad Pogue made the amazon plunge - it's a bit addictive, but very safe.

Well, even though everyone has WUSSBURGERED for the time being, I suspect will cross the 500 mark shortly.

I think I'm about movie'd out, but will finish Ride Lonesome right now.

I had thought the same thing...

Just dont name it Passions....

People are just sitting there like so much fish, rather than having a late-night frenzy.  In any case, the notes are finished and will go up right on time in about six minutes.
