Title: BUT FIRST, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR
Post by: bk on May 07, 2007, 12:07:21 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes didn't suffer from psoriasis or hemorrhoids, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're suffering from hemoorrhoids and will be home as soon as they're better.

Birthday Greetings DR Danise.

I hope you can find the time to take a minute for yourself today, smell a rose and know there is joy in this world where people understand and care.

DR elmore3003...

You made an excellent selection - that is definitely the Tallis recording I would have recommended to you, had I read your post yesterday in time.  You won't be disappointed.  And a nice bonus is a recording of the hymn tune that the Vaughan Williams Fantasia is based on.

I once participated in a performance of the 40-part motet Spem in alium with Peter Phillips conducting.  It was a magical experience.  The scores for it are about as big as a newspaper.    :P

Not these days.  LOL .

"Off", "from" and "of" seems to have merged in the last half century.

Borrow and lend have become rather "cloudy" too.

Title: Re:BUT FIRST, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR
Post by: Danise on May 07, 2007, 02:18:10 AM
Thank you Dear BK, Tomovoz, George and Singdaw for the wonderful birthday wishes!  I won't being going to work today because I have to have a meeting with the social worker to decide what they are going to do with Mom now that she is stable.

I think this is just as scary if not more so then when I thought I was going to lose her.  I hate the thoughts of her in a home.  I know they won't let me stay with her like they do here and I worry that she might get thristy or something and it will take forever for someone to come and give her a drink.

Not to say anything bad about Hospice but there is someone across the hall that screemed out a few fimes yesterday, "Nurse!, Nurse!" and then later hollared, "I'm thristy, for God's sake please give me a drink!".   I wanted to go in and give her one but I wasn't sure I'd be allowed.

Then I think, "What if that had been Mom?".

Now I'm also worried about the money end of all of this.  I'm scared I'll lose the house.  I don't think they can do much because I have the power of attorney and I'm not about to sign anything I don't go over with a a fine tooth comb.  In fact, I may even try to take anything they want signed and go see an attorney to make sure what they say is what I'm sigining.

I'm up because I just couldn't sleep last night for thinking about everything.  Sigh.

Title: Re:BUT FIRST, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR
Post by: Danise on May 07, 2007, 02:33:30 AM
Both Bear and Sheena paid Mom a visit yesterday.  I had to go home early because I put them in the house for the night.  We had some really bad thunder storms in the area and I was afraid to leave them out side.

I then took them to the dog park for about an hours.  Poor babies needed a good run.  Then because Sheena was pretty tired out, I decided to take her to see Mom.

They were both very good dogs but after a quick nap on the floor of Mom's room, Sheena got her second wind and started to get really fussy.  I had to take them both home and leave them inside again because of another evening of bad weather.  I know they were scared but at least they weren't outside.

Mom really enjoyed seeing them both.

Something that suprised me was how protective Sheena was.  When someone came in the room, she jumped up and either barked or growled at whoever the person was until they sat down on the couch and let her smell them.

I guess she really has accepted us as her family.  It's hard to believe it's almost a year since I first got her already.  Time really does fly.

Bear was very mellow and just laid down like he owned the place.  Everyone loved the two of them.

They were such good dogs and didn't do a thing in the house.

I'll have to swing by and let them out this morning.

No problem.

It's fall down your way now, isn't it?

That just seems so odd to think about.  I'm sure it seems strange to you to think we're going into spring.

DR Danise -

I know it doesn't help any, feeling so completely overwhelmed, but...  Listen to the professionals.  They've seen all this before, and they'll have helpful suggestions on options and navigating the system.

I know you can't help but worry, but until you have a sense of what the choices and options really ARE, there's not a lot you can do.

{{Hugs}} and prayers to you!!

I have some estate errands to do this morning, then a trek to Toyland for a CD I left in the office.  The reading is at 3, and I have several friends, besides the writers, performing in it.

TOD:  A Tale of Two Cities (BBC/Masterpiece Theatre with James Wilby)
          Marat/Sade (Royal Shakespeare Co.)
          Gone With the Wind
          1776
          Queen Margot
          Children of Paradise
          Lady Jane
          I, Claudius
          King of Kings

And of course in the film version of DISCRETION BEFORE NOON the Colbert and Harrison parts would have been taken by Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood.

AMAZING RACE SPOILERS from last night's FINALE.

I am not too happy with the winners. Even though i actually think that eric is a pretty good competitor (coming in 1st and 2nd is quite a task).

I just didn't like how the whole finale was set up. Oh and btw, the winners are no longer a couple!

It was stupid to have them fly to 2 different cities. The editors tried so hard to equalize the teams that it did not let the best team rise to the top. They kept getting equalized at every turn. To me there should be a roadblock, detour and final task at the last city. Not just some stupid timed task.  Geez they really wanted all the teams to arrive at the finish together didn't they!

They really made it so hawaii meant nothing (mirna did some great flight switching). And eric did do well at the paddling (although that was meant for a man).

So they all get on the same flight to oakland. And then only 1 task??? And to make it worse if you didn't get it in 10 minutes you still got the clue??  And then a stupid taxi to the finish (no running the streets).

They really need to figure out how to do a real finale. It's like all they wanted was for it to be close, instead of them actually wanting the best team to win.

I guess i'm happy mirna did not win.

Oh and the bogus editing showing eric's taxi stopping at red lights, while the BQs were going through greens. I think they finished 10 minutes behind (which makes little sense if they left 2 minutes after E&D).

AMAZING RACE SPOILERS from last night's FINALE.

Oh, don't get me started...

But since you did...Yeah, I'm also extremely unhappy about the outcome.  IMHO, E & D did not deserve to be in the final three, let alone win.  I don't know this for sure, but I think they are the only winners of TAR that never won a single previous leg.  They've been unimpressive throughout and that's aside from Eric's obnoxiousness and Danielle's helplessness and cluelessness.  Believe it or not, I would have preferred to see Mirna and Schmirna win over these two dolts.

Evidently, the gathered eliminated teams felt the same way.  Didja notice how the Blondies got the more enthusiastic greeting of applause when they ran in at second place?  And how Phil had to rally the crowd up to get some more positive reaction for E & D?

Not at all surprised that E & D are no longer a couple.  He's probably going to blow away his winnings with his boy buddy Jeremy.

I don't sound too bitter, do I?

Gosh, I can't believe after DR Mcihael Shayne went through all that Oscar trivia about BECKET and the 1964 Oscars, he didn't correct BK on his error in the notes.

Anthony Quinn did not win the Best Actor Oscar in 1964; Rex Harrison did for MY FAIR LADY.

Anthony Quinn never won a Best leading actor Oscar. Both of his awards were for supporting roles.

DR Dan you said exactly what i was thinking!  It just shows you how much danielle held eric back. They never won a single leg. To me that is just ridiculous.  Did you hear julie chen on the Early show today saying how deserving they were?

Eric was very obnoxious. Danielle was very whiny.  But they were almost eliminated a bunch of times.  At least charla and mirna did finish first a few times like you said.

It just bugs me because the winner of allstars is supposed to be the best.  Although i suppose when you don't even start with so many of the best teams you can't really have the best team win. I would have had only the best most competitive teams. Not necessarily only those who won. There were plenty of good teams who did not win in their years.

Sorry i got you started.

But actually i am not as unhappy with the winners (who did okay last night) as i am with the way they did the last leg. Any joker could have won the only deciding task.

I usually enjoy this show. But they really know how to do their season finales.  I was mesmerized and in tears at last year's plane crash so.  And i was equally interested in this week's show (i guess it was part one of two).

I could not figure out anything that was going to happen. And I was frightened, upset and completely into every minute.

I cannot wait to see what happens on may 11th. OMG!

Too late!  You got me started!

I'm unhappy, too,  with the way this final episode was laid out.  For one thing, it was only an hour.  All previous finales were two hours.  Does this mean CBS has grown that disenchanted with TAR's ratings performance that it's no longer worthy of a two hour time slot?  To be honest, the tasks involved did not seem to require two hours of coverage, but overall it did seem rushed.

And that final task--after some initially trying to deduct the answers, it looked to me that all three just tried randomly changing the codes.  Danielle got lucky.

"A Man For All Seasons" - I went to St. Thomas More Elementary School, so we watched this once - if not twice - a year.  Kind of pretty heady stuff - pardon the pun - for 10-year olds.

And a couple of others I know will pop into my head throughout the day.

I have seen the previews, but if it has premiered yet, I haven't seen it. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to watch this. It's an intriguing premise, but I just haven't read anough about ABC's intentions for the show to have decided yet about investing my time in a new show.

Well, those HHW vibes came though once again and I got the best possible birthday present.

They are going to move Mom down to the Hospice House in Sun City where she can stay for at least 2 months.  I will be able to vist and stay the night if I want to and the dogs are still welcome.

I was so upset that she might have to go to a regular nursing home where I couldn't stay with her when she really needs me.

They are going to move her tomorrow so I am taking tomorrow off to go with her so she won't be upset about going to another strange place.  I regret that I will have to start to go back to work and won't be with her every night but I am so grateful that things worked out this way.

I was so worried and upset. My chest and left arm were killing me.  I felt like my arm was a lead pipe.  I called my doctor (again) and was told they weren't set up to deal with that kind of pain and need to get an ER to to evaluated.  Well, that's not going to happen any time soon.  I know if I go to the ER I'll be there all night.

I'm home right now because I had to let the dogs out of the house because of the stroms we had last night.  I am going to go lay down and have a nice nap.

DR Danise -

I know it doesn't help any, feeling so completely overwhelmed, but...  Listen to the professionals.  They've seen all this before, and they'll have helpful suggestions on options and navigating the system.

Wonderful news, DR Danise!!!    :D

Now, to make your life even more stress-free...

How quickly can you get that doggie door installed?

I wonder if any DR has experience with how hard it is to train the dogs to use it?

Once they move Mom I won't be able to vist like I did but I am going to look into having a doggie door installed maybe this weekend.

Considering how big Bear is, I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be easier to just teach him how to turn the handle!   :D    I'm not joking either.

and dear Jose..... what kind of schedule do you have this week.... Busy?  lighter than the past weeks?

I hope it is a pretty day there in the city today, and that you can have some fun.  Wish I could go to the play reading tonight......

I'm off today.  Then an afternoon session tomorrow.  Then, as of now, I'm free the rest of the week.  -When it rains, it pours.  When it doesn't, it doesn't.

However, I think I'm doing to the final dress of Encores' Stairway To Paradise Wednesday night, and then I'm thinking of heading down to Fairfax to spend some time with my family.  I need some "Uncle Jojo" time especially since I missed my niece/god-daughter's first birthday the other week.  Then, most likely, I'll head further down to Richmond for a few days.  I want to check out my parents' new house, and Steve also bought a new grand piano a few weeks ago, and I just have to see how he squeezed that into his living room.  ;)

I think BK was just testing us to see who was reading his column.

I'd pair Dear Reader Laura and Sandra. Don't know why really . . . . ;D

I can think of only two maother/daughter teams (no counting any on the family edition.)  I think DRs Laura and Sandra would make a good team.

For the relationship team, I would pick DRs Tpunk and Rodzinski.  I would have picked Ann and Jed because of their seniority here, but they're getting married this week and I think TAR could be a potentially disasterous way to spend a honeymoon.

If I had my own pick for a teammate, I would choose DR CillaLiz for her brains and stamania and good company.  But I think I would drive her crazy because--typical guy--I would hate to stop to ask for directions anywhere ("JUST READ ME THE DIRECTIONS ON THE MAP!!!!")

I think we must have been watching Channel 7 news at the same time. I was home for lunch and we were about to watch Millionaire. The last shot of the news was that beautiful shot of the Sheep Meadow. Then we watched Millionaire and now I'm back at the office.

And yes, this time I agree with Mr. Brantley. It seems most reviews do. My friend from Tucson is in the minority. He actually thinks the play is good, not great but good. He also felt it was about many different and important topics. My friend is a wonderful friend, but methinks he was projecting his feelings for seeing Miss Lansbury on stage onto what has been called in almost every review, a star vehicle (and a not very good star vehicle at that).

Thanks for the birthday at restaurants article DR Jose.

But we don't do birthdays like that.  We do family type affairs and everyone knows who is paying for what.

The thing about splitting the cost is it can happen at any group dinner (not just birthdays).  I'd prefer everyone pay for what they eat.  Although at chinese food usually everyone shares. So then i don't mind splittling the bill.

But these things are tricky.

I wonder if any DR has experience with how hard it is to train the dogs to use it?

Had to train many a pooch - both back in Long Beach and here in Rehoboth, including many fosters; it never took more than five minutes! Push them out - go out side, push them back, job done! (The dogs really rather do their business outside - you just need to show them the" ins and outs" of the door. (I'll admit to some "lapses" during particularly heavy rain storms.)

The TARcon thing sounds kind of fun.  I think if I were just a touch more nerdy about the show I would consider going, especially if the Blondies and Tyler and BJ were going to attend.

Rodents like dog/cat food.
Rodents can learn to use a doggie door.
In Southern CA fruit rats live in Avacado trees.
We had an Avacado tree in Long Beach.
Dogs can learn to hunt rodents!

We used to put out those glue traps (which, after some unpleasant run-ins, the dogs learned to avoid); you'd hear loud screeching when a critter got caught - Marty (the Lab) would dash to the trap and "very carefully" pick up the critter and give it a good "be quiet" crunch!

Good Afternoon!

Well, at least I didn't fall!  WHEW!!!!!!!!!!

Once I found a little stretch of pavement with a set of benches, I went ahead and donned my gear: LandRollers, knee-pads, elbow pads, wrist guards(!), and helmet(!!!).  And then I proceeded to figure out how the heck to brake properly, if at all, for the next hour or so.

I haven't put on these thing since I got them this past Christmas, and, even then, the only place I used them was in the hallway of the apartment building I was staying in down in DC.  Well, there's a big difference between a carpeted hallway and asphalt.  A fast difference.  Wheeeeeee!!!!

But, again, I didn't fall.

I just went a few feet at a time.  Then eventually turned myself around, and traveled back to where I came from.  Sometimes I initiated the traveling, sometimes I did not initiate the traveling.  Eventually, I did get to the point where I left the immediate area of the benches, and started "rolling" from Point A to Point B.  Point A being this lamppost, Point B being that lamppost.

But, again, I didn't fall.

There were a few moments here and there where I did feel comfortable. I remember roller-skating as a child, and I remember picking it up very fast.  I have a feeling the learning and comfortability curve for these things is going to a bit steeper.

But, again, I did not fall.

WHEW!!!!!!

And these AMAZING men they've cast in all these roles. Astounding.

First of all, most of the bags from Levain have no logo and name on them.  They're usually just a plain white or brown paper bag.  Only their handle-bags have a stamp of the store's name on them.

Secondly, I always stop at Levain on my way out of the Park.  (Cinnamon-Butter Brioche today.)

Finally, if I was able to pick up a jogger today while on my LandRollers, well... there was no way that was going to happen today.  If anything, a jogger would have had to pick me up.  Literally, from the pavement.

It makes you vomit!
So buy some Comet
And vomit, today!

Ah... Another fond memory.... This time of a busload of elementary school kids singing that at the top of the lungs on the ride home from school.

That Dr. Pepper ad featured David Naughton before his big break in "An American Werewolf in London."

And the Dr. Pepper jingle was also featured in In My Life.  -Sadly, it was some of the best music in the show.  :-\

I recorded off BBC America last night a TV-movie on Beau Brummell starring James Purefoy as the title character and Matthew Rhys (Kevin from BROTHERS & SISTERS) as Lord Byron.

I'd really like to watch this before prime time starts tonight.

Back from the mail place, where once again everything has changed.  Instead of sending someone to pick up the USPS letters and packages in the morning (the way they've always done it), now everything is being delivered to the mail place, which means it's not getting there until after noon, which means it doesn't get put out until three.  Very annoying.

I think we must have been watching Channel 7 news at the same time. I was home for lunch and we were about to watch Millionaire. The last shot of the news was that beautiful shot of the Sheep Meadow. Then we watched Millionaire and now I'm back at the office.

I believe we were.  They started the weather segment with that shot of Central Park, and then used it to close out the broadcast.

...And that's when I changed to CBS for "The Young & The Restless".  ;)

Never mind, just saw that it is indeed Wonder Bread.  What was the popular multi vitamin in the 50s and 60s and what was its slogan?

Oh... And as was/is mentioned on the LandRoller website (http://www.landroller.com), the skates can be quite the attention-getter.  In fact, on the subway ride home, a very handsome guy came over to me and started asking me about my LandRollers.  Alas, his girlfriend was interested in them too.  ::)

I considered myself fortunate to have mastered inline skating.

Did anyone else used to smoosh up a slice of Wonder Bread into a big ball?

I only used be able to do it with bread borrowed from friend's sandwiches, as my mother wouldn't allow the stuff in the house.

I had a toy called the Time Machine in which you took these little plastic squares and put them into this plastic chamber which would heat up, causing the little plastic square to expand into a monster or prehistoric creature.  Then you could reheat the creature and put it into another chamber which, after turning the crank, would compact the creature back into a little square.

Anyways, I used to shove slices of white bread into the compacting chamber and smash them into little squares.  They would also get the Mattel logo embossed on them.  I found this results to be dramatically more impressive than just rolling slices of white bread into lumpy balls.  They looked professionally made.

They just look daunting.  They're actually easier than inline skates - which I have tried a few times before.  Since the wheel base is wider, they're a bit more stable, and not so hard on your ankles.  And they just look cool too!

I used to do the same thing.  However, I would "emboss" my Wonder Bread with a set of cookie molds my mother had.  But my favorite thing to do was to put a slice on Wonder Bread in the electric pizzelle maker.   That always yielded very fancy toast-crisps.  :)

But....but....with the wheels mounted on the outside edge of each boot, isn't there more of a strain on the foot and ankle?  I mean, there doesn't seem to be any balance, which you have with inlines....

I was not really that moved by the final scene between susan and mike.  I used to like them as a couple a lot. But i really hated the whole ian thing.  It is interesting how they basically just replaced showing marcia cross as one of the 4 women (with nicolette sheridan). She must love the added air-time. But i much prefer marcia cross.

I have seen many scenes like the final one last night that moved me so much more.  Maybe susan's antics were just too overboard for me last night.  But i thought it was stupid of her to go off on her own.

And while i'm mentioning things i didn't get, let me say that i did not get the mayor hiring thugs. That did not seem in character to me at all.

More than just "homemade" bread...it was ITALIAN bread...FABulous-tasting bread....bread that tastes even better when toasted in olive oil....like it was with those eggs in "Moonstruck"!!!

Italians generally take the softer center out of their slices of bread and roll them up...

I had visited one of the TWP TAR forums once or twice this season and there were some strict warnings that there were accurate spoilers about who won on the Spoiler forum, so I stayed away from it.  People really hate Mirna and Schmirna there.

One of the reasons i love televisionwithoutpity is because they are very strict about spoilers.  They are only allowed in the spoiler thread. And are strictly forbidden in the regular weekly show thread. So i would only read those and not the spoilers.

But today i went into the spoiler thread and was astonished that they knew who won.

I also like to read their show recaps. And do it every week for shows like LOST and HEROES.  And then i check out the threads about that week's show. Very interesting discussions. The best i've seen.

Quote
The TARcon thing sounds kind of fun.  I think if I were just a touch more nerdy about the show I would consider going, especially if the Blondies and Tyler and BJ were going to attend.

I was actually looking for an exact description somewhere of what this was.  It is simply under a thread called TARcon and people talk about going to it. But i didn't notice where it said exactly what it was or how you got invited/tickets to it.

The BQs did go. I think everyone from this season went except romber and danny. Maybe there were others, not positive about that.

SPOILERS

And while i'm mentioning things i didn't get, let me say that i did not get the mayor hiring thugs. That did not seem in character to me at all.

If you recall, Gaby was shocked (I tell you, SHOCKED) at the way he spoke to her about her stupid behavior with the policeman (and she was wrong in all aspects of her behavior toward him).

The thugs are showing us an added dimension to this very wealthy and powerful man...and giving us a preview of things to come in Gaby's life.

Surely you didn't think you knew everything about him from the few shows he's been on!!! ???  :)

I'll grant you that Nicollette is getting more air time lately, but then she's sharing a lot of it with Ricardo, who got plenty of it on his own with Gaby.  As those couples split up, both were due some time with someone else.  Look at Lynnette...sharing lots of scenes with Jason Gedrick and fewer with Tom.

As for Brie....I'm enjoying this break from her and her husband.  I wish they'd do another episode or two with Andrew being more involved in the story arcs.

"Helps build strong bodies eight ways"  What was that from?  Do I have it right?  Some multiple vitamin tablets, right?

Wonder Bread

Nope, it was Wonder Bread. 8 was the original slogan but it was upgraded to 12 later in the campaign and then they ran into trouble with the FTC after adding calcium (the 13th way) and making unsubstantiated claims about brain function and memory.

Damn you............ Oh, I give up.

DR RLP - Don is still selling guns, but has stopped advertising on television except VERY late at night now and then.  When one of his clerks gets shot, he just closes that store and opens another one across the street.

I have found it is very easy for animals to learn to use pet doors. We have two neighborhood cats that just walk right in and make themselves at home.

One night when my DH was out of town, I heard a noise in the kitchen. I went in and saw a round furry animal that I thought was a dog, with his face in a bowl of dry cat food, chomping away.

I didn't want to scare it so I snuck into the bedroom and got my glasses, came back and discovered it was a HUGE raccoon.

It turned out it was a female, very pregnant raccoon who could barely fit through the cat door. She was just as afraid of me as I was of her and she had a hard time getting back out of the door.

After a month or so, she returned and started bring her baby raccoons in with her. It was cute until the first morning I stepped in a puddle of raccoon pee.

We would always know when they were in the kitchen because we could hear their nails clinking against the cat dishes as they washed the dry cat food to moisten it.

I learned later that raccoons can spread rabies through their saliva, and since they were sharing the water bowl with my ancient cat, that was the end of their nocturnal visits.

Before I took to locking the door, through, they pulled off some impressing feats, like dragg a whole bag of Science Diet almost all the way out the cat door. (When they couldn't complete their task they just ate the food out of the bag, like a feedbag!)

Did anyone else used to smoosh up a slice of Wonder Bread into a big ball?

I only used be able to do it with bread borrowed from friend's sandwiches, as my mother wouldn't allow the stuff in the house.

Beleive it or not, my DH worked on a film about this very thing, called THE BREAD SQUEEZER, made by some friends of ours who have since moved it NY. (We got to see them when we were there last month.)

You can see lots of squeezing going on:

So who says you would be driving?   ;D

Stranded on the toilet bowl.
What do you do when your stranded
And you don’t have a roll?

I have to add that I really don't mind either the format or the winner.  I like a close ending and any of the teams could have guessed right what their partner thought and gotten through that task and won.  Danielle got it right.  More power to her.    I guess I see a lot of it as luck and chance mixed with brains and skill.   I liked it

Good Evening!

Back from the reading.  I enjoyed it.  "The Legend of Stagecoach Mary" is in very good shape.  Today's presentations were in association with NYMF, and the show will be fully-staged this fall during the festival.

It was nice seeing a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while, and some people I just saw this past week.  All in all, a very enjoyable evening.

-And I'm wondering where DR elmore is?  He went to the 3:00 presentation.  Hmm...

The composer asked me to send me some of my thoughts, so that's why I'm really posting any details here.  I started processing my thoughts on the train ride back uptown - the long train ride back uptown.  Apparently, there was an "earlier incident" on both the A and the D in both Brooklyn and the Bronx.  Consequently, the trains were running a bit behind schedule.

I watched that BBC movie on BEAU BRUMMELL. I haven't seen anything on BBC-America in quite a while - they have commercials every 10 minutes WITHOUT FAIL. Of course, with the DVR, it's easy to fly through them, but still! Matthew Rhys was wasted as Lord Byron. The chemistry between Rhys and Purefoy was palpable, and much could have been made of that! Instead, we were (once again) forced to use our imaginations.

Still, if it's even close to the truth about those individuals and the Prince of Wales et al, it was a very intriguing moment in history.

RENO 911 had a couple of chuckles as Dangle went to the anniversary party of his ex-wife and her second husband (who, ahem, seemed to have a lot in common with Dangle). Would like to see more with that!

SCRUBS had some typical fantasies as each main character imagined what it would be like being with Elliott on the eve of her engagement. Slightly amusing without being fall down funny.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER had some terrific laughs at Marshall and Lily's disastrous wedding. Still, it ended very sweetly and sentimentally, quite a lovely episode.

OLD CHRISTINE dragged out the pregnancy scare plot, and it was only mediocre in execution. Blair Underwood again guest starred as Richie's teacher and Christine's potential love interest (if the show gets another season).

'24' was a snooze fest for the first 43 minutes, but then things kicked into high gear as CTU got invaded. From then to the end of the episode, it was breathless excitement, and the last two hours of the day promise to be equally exciting now that we have this very strong set-up from tonight's episode.

HEROES was once again as fabulous as it's expected to be. How great to see Ellen Greene as Sylar's mother, and we see within a few minutes one reason he got launched on such a destructive path. Some superb moments of action and surprise. I love this show!

DR MattH, you are thinking of different Curtis.........Curtis Harrington directed the 1960s flicks WHO SLEW AUNTIE ROO, QUEEN OF BLOOD, VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET, and WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HELEN?

That's right! Thanks for the correction. I was thinking Curtis Hanson when I read Curtis Harrington.

So... Back to Wonder Bread for a bit...

Did any other DRs after toasting a slice of Wonder Bread, and then buttering it, ever peel off that top layer of toasty-buttery goodness?  And then re-toasted and re-buttered the remaining bread?

Anyone?

Well, you've outdone me with that one dear Jose..... and I rarely like to let an extra treat like that escape my notice.

I've been battling a very annoying, very persistent, and very painful neck/head condition all day today.  I got to my chiro around 10:00 this morning, and I'm hoping that it finally relaxes out while I sleep tonight.  My head/ neck connection,... not my chiro.

Yuck..... kinda takes some of the fun out of a pretty day.  But I did have a nice little break in the middle of the day, when I found a couple of surprises for a friend of mine, while I was doing some shopping.

Goodnight lovelies and studlies and H/Ks and guapo 'Pinos and DRs and the ever buff and rippling BK .

Isn't it funny - when I read the post about Curtis Harrington I immediately drafted a response about Curtis Hansen - I'd just finished watching The Silent Partner, which Hansen wrote, and I thought oh the irony.  And then, of course, I realized the IRONY - different person altogether.  Mr. Harrington lived to the ripe old age of 78.

I believe I read somewhere that Lynn Ahrens was the writer of the "What would you do for a Klondike bar?' jingle

From Theatre Mania Interview (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/1127):

Quote
I met someone who was starting a jingle company and I ended up writing a lot of commercials. Two of them are still in use: 'What would you do for a Klondike Bar?' and 'Bounty, the quicker picker upper.' That's me singing them, too!"

I have found it is very easy for animals to learn to use pet doors. We have two neighborhood cats that just walk right in and make themselves at home.

I hate to tell you this, but they aren't "neighborhood" cats. They are OUR cats and have been for quite some time.

This afternoon at work, I was just sitting at my desk using my computer when my screen went black and it displayed the message, "No signal detected."  The fan on my computer was still running, but nothing was happening!  There wasn't any noise or anything...the screen just went black.  I tried hitting control-alt-delete, but that didn't work, either!  I went to my co-worker Kitty and the same thing had just happened to her.  She called one of the computer people and they said that one of the phases (?) went out.  Evidently, we have three.  Some (but not all) lights also went out, and the fire alarms were beeping, like they were in test mode, so it wasn't too loud.

Anyway, Jon (actually, one of the two Jons in Computer Services ;)) came over to Kitty's desk and asked her to power down her computer...she did, and then he asked her to turn it back on.  Nothing happened!  Jon asked me to turn off my computer and it wouldn't come back on either!  It turned out that the server totally went down and NONE of the library computers work.  I had a few things to do that didn't need a computer, but otherwise, I had to leave about an hour and a half earlier than I normally do, because I couldn't do anything.

I used to have one of these when we lived in Germany!  Talk about an unsafe toy for kids! ;)
