Well, you've read the notes, the notes marched to the beat of a different drum, and now it is time for you to post until the happy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CATACHRESIS!
-
Last night, I went to rehearsal and we rehearsed for the first hour or so outside the church where we're rehearsing. The sun was going down and it wasn't too cold, but it got a little too dark for people to read their scripts, so we went inside, where we spent the next hour. A few of us were able to leave at about 9:00 pm, so I went to Fred Meyer and then went home.
-
When I got home, I found a package in my mailbox! I had ordered the complete seasons 1 & 2 of the original British version (http://www.amazon.com/Whose-Line-Anyway-British-Seasons/dp/B000KJU1FK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-3762568-1656134?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1179906929&sr=1-2) of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (only available in the US) and Part 1 of Season 1 of the uncensored American version (http://www.amazon.com/Whose-Line-Anyway-Uncensored-Version/dp/B000GRUQJC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-3762568-1656134?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1179906929&sr=1-1) of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" ;) I can't wait to watch them!
-
Here in Olympia, there used to be (still is?) an improv comedy troupe called Scatterbrains. I'd only seen them once, but they were funny. Six of the American "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" guys have gone on tour together and come to Olympia! They were hysterical! ;D
-
Some of the people in "Taming of the Shrew" and "Cannibal!" have done some improv acting (not necessarily comedy) and the thought of ME doing improv scares the crap out of me. ::) Here are my Ask BK Day questions for anyone:
Have you ever performed in any kind of improv setting, whether regular acting or comedy? Have you done any improv acting exercises...acting games and things like that? Did you like it? Was it horrifying??
-
Have you ever performed in any kind of improv setting, whether regular acting or comedy?
While in High School I attended a week long summer church camp. We were presenting an ad-lib Saint Joan and I had been type cast as the humble cleric on his knees at the stake praying for her soul. The director had instructed the cast of-stage to make "appropriate crowd noises" while the faux flames burned. My pious demeanor was forever destroyed when a strong off-stage voice cheered out "There She Goes!" My ultimately unsuccessful attempts to keep from rolling on the floor with laughter were the highlight of the evening.
Now the only "stake" near which I pray is from a Black Angus.

ASK BK
I just noticed on the original release of the David Shire CD (Bay Cities) the musical movements for the Reurn of Oz suite are indicated by the word index. Can you explain the use of indexes on cd tracks?
-
Plane arrived at 12:15....and I am up to go to work. Just like a regular person. Oy!
-
Yes, DR EDISAURUS, I have seen Brenda's clip....very entertaining...and I believe that very house turned out to be the subject of a VERY bitter divorce a bit later....Brenda even spent time in jail because of it. Makes it even better, don't you think?
Yes, DRLAURA - everyone needs new towel hangers!
-
Good morning, all! The first draft of guidelines is finished so I'm back to Toyland this morning, and then I go to NYPL and historic newspapers. Much as I don't want to, I have to dig out more theatre scrapbooks from 1912 in my search for the creation of THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER, a show I would never be working on if I had my choice.
LAW & ORDER SVU had tons of hangovers to next season: is Dann Florek leaving? Will Stabler's daughter go to jail? How will IA react to Benson's confession? What about Finn's sociopath stepson? Oy!
I may finally see HOT FUZZ late this afternoon. Nothing is frozen.
-
And I am not sure but the recent American release MAY have been a remake or based upon the Mexican QUINCENEARAS which is a very good movie....it's no AVENTURERA, but then, what is?
-
Checking the imdb listing for QUINCENEARAS.....no, I don't think it was based on the Mexican film.....
-

A fluid day is always nice. ;D
-
Nothing is frozen.
Many are cold, but few are frozen.
-
And the word of the day is: CATACHRESIS!
I had a slight CATACHRESIS this morning when two of them threw up simultaneously. I don't think I was doing anything in particular to elicit that reaction.
-
And the word of the day is: CATACHRESIS!
Or is it some form of Catholic hazing?

Oh come now, Warner Brothers, you have screwed up more color than any studio in this room!

I think we sailed on a catachresis when we were in Hawaii.

TOD
Ask BK Day!
(1) As the director of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, did you find yourself making any changes to the characters that you, as the author, had created; based on the actors you cast in the first production?
(2) Did you ever get around to watching the DVD of NATIONAL PASTIME?
-

Off to work....
My question for ASK BRUSHES DAY:
If you could do a commentary on any film that hasn't been released on DVD yet, what film would it be?
-
Good morning all!
I am very much looking forward to seeing the finale of LOST tonight.
Since here it is on the same channel as AMERICAN IDOL they are showing it at 7pm and then at 10pm. But i will not be home at 7pm. But i'm thinking i will watch the first hour when i get home. And then watch the end of IDOL. And then I'll watch the last hour at 10pm. Yeah! It's supposed to be a real good one! I can't wait.

RE: the results above. I'm not surprised. Especially after hearing that final song. It really suited jordin. And i do like her. I just wanted blake to win. I was really hoping that he would have changed the final song and beat boxed to it. I think that would have actually given him a chance to win (i wonder if they would have let him do that). As it was, the song just made it apparent that he could not sing that kind of song. And since it completely suited jordin (and she sounded so great singing it) it made her crowning a foregone conclusion. :(
-
DR MattH, you didn't put spoiler space re: the VERONICA MARS finale. In your second post you didn't even write the words VERONICA MARS. Luckily i didn't see what you wrote. Looking forward to seeing it.
-
Morning greetings to all. I am off from work today in honor of Shavuot.
I will start by meeting my friend to layout in Central park. Then we'll meet up with my roommate at a pub to watch the Liverpool soccer game. If they win we will celebrate by shopping for household items at Target. If they lose we will drown our sorrows by shopping for household items at Target. Then tonight I hope to meet up with Rodzinski to upgrade his cellphone and grab a bite.
-
I enjoyed last night's VM finale. I'm so bummed that I missed the week before, so I was quite surprised by the state of things.
-
Page 2!!!!
-
As I type, Killbot is also catching up on posts. She is really into having a laptop.
-
Now I must hit the showers, so to speak. Toodles!
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Like DR Cillaliz, I have a presentation this afternoon. Mine, though, is the May edition of something I do every month, so not much prep. In fact, I could probably do this one in my sleep, which doesn't sound like a bad idea:
I Need a Vacation!
The upcoming 4-day holiday weekend will help...
-
DR TPunk - it's nice to have you back! I'm sorry for the recent turmoil in your life - remember, Chocolate Cures Everything!
-
I am also glad to see DR TPunk back abouts.
-
Question for BK -
If When The Brain from Planet X plays in a metropolitan area that's not LA, would you "localize" the geographic references?
-
It's a Presentation Day. My canceled presentation from two weeks ago will take place at 10am. I'm in the Training Annex right now making sure everything is Fine and Dandy (a Larry Moore reference).
I just came back from a wonderful 7 day vacation but I could use another one soon. As Ginny said, the Memorial Day long weekend will help.
Later, gaters.
-
Or is it some form of Catholic hazing?
that was my thought...
Good morning to one and all!
-
***presentation vibes***
today to DRs Ben, Ginny, and Cillaliz
-
Good morning everyone :)
-
Question for one and all DRs and bk,
What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing on television?
-
For me it was Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons
-
and the Lawrence Welk show...
-
singdaw, thanks for the burger link.
-
Presentation vibes to Ben, Cilla and Ginny!
-
It is nice to see TPunk back as well!
-
Good morning!
Overcast today, so I don't know if we're due for rain or not. Cool right now, and it's supposed to be a bit cooler this afternoon, too. At least not in the 80s which will be a relief.
-
The first nighttime TV show I have any memory of is OUR MISS BROOKS.
-
I recorded the IDOL show last night but had no interest in watching it "live." I thought after reading recaps if there was something I had to watch, I'd have it. Well, after reading the recaps, I will erase the show without even watching.
Last year, the two finalists each had his own song to sing, and I am VERY disappointed that they didn't keep that approach this year. They still could have had a song contest, but let there be two winners instead of one. When you have singers so very different from each other, it's absurd to think the same song is OK for each of them.
As for tonight's results show, I won't watch that either, but will record it and read recaps of it to see if anyone shows up tonight I want to see.
-
LOST, of course, will be front and center for me tonight. Should be a marvelous season finale to a very good year for the show.
-
I will have last night's SVU to get to today and also THE SOPRANOS from Sunday night.
-
Two big DVD collections make it an expensive week for me next week: the second season of THE CLOSER and the Katharine Hepburn boxed set (SYLVIA SCARLET, MORNING GLORY, THE CORN IS GREEN, WITHOUT LOVE, UNDERCURRENT).
I have my fingers crossed that THE CLOSER will be anamorphic transfers this year.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, and it looks and feels like a beautiful day outside - we have the doors to the backyard open. And after DR TPunk mentioned Central Park, I may have to head out there too sometime today.
-
DR MattH - Thanks for the heads up on those boxeds sets of musicals. I had been reading about them on other sites, and since I don't have any of them currently in my constantly growing library-of-DVDs-that-I-will-probably-not-watch-for-another-couple-of-years, I was just wondering if I should add them to the queue. ;)
-
"Idol" SPOILER/COMMENT
I did think the winning song was better suited to Jordin's voice, but you could tell is was not "living" in her voice yet. -I wonder when they started learning the song. And she was pitchy - again - when she was singing soft - and even when she wasn't singing soft. :-\
-
DR Michael Shayne - As for Index markers...
I remember coming across Index points on a bunch of the first Classical music CDs that came out - and that I bought. They were used to indicate certain internal points in a song/movement that were not delineated by a stop/end. I still have a disc of the Liszt B minor Piano Sonata, and there is an index marker provided for each major tempo indication in the score - otherwise, it's one long piece of music, one long CD track.
I recall seeing some CD players that allowed you to jump to Index points, otherwise, it was just a matter of fast-forwarding or rewinding if one desired.
-Remember the initial release of The Phantom of the Opera that was just one track per CD/Act?
-
I may finally see HOT FUZZ late this afternoon. Nothing is frozen.
Hey, DR elmore - I would actually like to see "Hot Fuzz" again. So, if you do end up going...
*Although, while I was in Chinatown on Saturday, I did buy an "advance copy" of the "Hot Fuzz" DVD. ::) :-X

Here's another way to pass the time that a friend of mine just forwarded to me:
What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born? (http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm)
DR Tomovoz - Alas, it only applies to the U.S. Billboard charts.
-
I enjoyed all the photos yesterday.
Here is one of Craig and Yogi I took at the campus.
-
The # 1 song on the day I was born was: "Dominique" by The SInging Nun
-
Wonderful photo of Craig and Yogi! What a beautiful dog! And Craig sure looks a lot like his dad!

The #1 song on the day I was born:
"The Chipmunk Song" by David Seville & the Chipmunks

I know I am horribly out of the cultural zeitgeist, but I saw American Idol for the first time this season last night (just the last 5 minutes or so, as I waited for On the Lot to start). Sorry, I just don't get Jordin--she sounded much better on the recap tunes than she did on the big power ballad finale, IMHO. The other guy was pleasant enough--nothing special (again IMHO). Sorry, AI fans.
On the Lot was really enjoyable. Gabe is a budding filmmaker, so we're going to let him stay up to watch after school lets out.
-
We took this one last night at bedtime. Before we had a puppy our bed looked much nicer ;D
-
Is it merely a coinkydink that "novelty songs" were #1 when certain Hainsies were born? :)
-
DR MattH - Thanks for the heads up on those boxeds sets of musicals. It's a very cost conscious way of adding some great movies to your collection. And if you're one of those people who don't care so much about bonus features and just want the movie itself, you can't go wrong with these.
-
The first TV show I can remember seeing is BEWITCHED. I can vivdly recall an episode of it when I was 3 or 4 years old and I thought that Marion Lorne was my Grandma Cooper.
-
We took this one last night at bedtime. Before we had a puppy our bed looked much nicer ;D
Jane--that's hilarious. BeeGee does the same thing at the foot of our bed--he rests his head on the bottom shelf of Betsy's nightstand.
-
What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born? (http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm)
Hmm...My Boyfriend's Back, by the Angels...
How appropriate! :P

I've started responding to various Nigerian lottery winners and/or widows of sacked security chiefs from a Hotmail account with the following answer:
Thanks SO much for thinking of me as you attempt to divest yourself of your funds. As an Assistant Attorney General for my State, I'm sure I can help grease the wheels to make the transfer of funds as easy as possible. In fact, I've already used WHOSIS to trace your ISP to begin making arrangements for that very electronic funds transfer. Please email again soon with as much personal information as you can!! Thanks!!
-
DR Michael Shayne - As for Index markers...
The Telarc label was the one that consistently used index markers for their classical recordings in the early years of CD. I don't know that they do this so much any more...
-
We took this one last night at bedtime.
Ooh, I just want to KISS his little/big face! :D
-
Indexing was quite common in the early days of CDs--they are "internal" markings in tracks. I remember my first set of Brahms Symphonies had them at the tempo changes. Kind of like bookmarks.
We're biting the bullet (no mean feat) and having our kitchen remodeled. Pray for Rosemary's Baby.

We're biting the bullet (no mean feat) and having our kitchen remodeled.
Scary! and... Inconvenient!
I hope it's a true remodel and not a re-muddle[!]

And the word of the day is: CATACHRESIS!
Conrad the Canadian would resort to CATACHRESIS whenever he wanted to be SARCASTIC, EH?
-
WHEW!
Just watching "The View" - Now that was some debate! Rosie and Elizabeth were really going at it! I may have to look for it on YouTube later.
-
DR JMK - I really like "The Lot" a lot too last night. And I think the panel of judges is actually a pretty decent cross-section of talent too.
-
Thanks for the photo, DR Jane. Yogi looks like he survived the trip quite well. Tell your son that a leather dog lead is MUCH easier on the hands! :)
-
a pretty decent cross-section of talent
Well, you can tell where MY mind is today...I read decadent cross-section...
:)
-
...What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born? (http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm)
...
"The Thing," by Phil Harris ???
-
I forgot about THE LOT. I meant to watch it!
-
I may surrender to the need for James Bond this afternoon. I have one more of the Ultimate Edition Bonds on the counter - YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, so I may go that route after I watch THE SOPRANOS and SVU.
So many decisions to make. . . .
-
I guess I will head down now to check the mail and then start fixing lunch. I'm thinking of mac and cheese. We'll see.
WBBL.
-
DR Jane - Greats pics!
Are there any plans for Yogi and Sherlock to meet some time?
-
MBarnum-When I was in Pittsburgh I was thinking how Craig doesn’t look as much like Keith as he used to.
Singdaw-We had to get a new leash the first night (Yogi’s stunk since it had been in the crate with him) & Craig just quickly grabbed one off the shelf). It did hurt my hands when I had to walk Yogi. Normally Yogi wears a very nice soft leather collar but I needed the heavy duty pinch.
Jeff, I’m waiting for a photo of BeeGee in Sherlock’s pose.
-
Number 1 the day I was born:
1953 ... "Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes" by Perry Como
-
My presentation is finished. Now I'm going to get a haircut and some lunch. I should have gotten a haircut before the presentation but the room was dark so no one noticed!
-
And since we are so close
-
DR Jane - Thanks for the pictures! Craig and Yogi seem to have survived their journey in great shape.
-
Let us turn to Page 4
-
Well, you can tell where MY mind is today...I read decadent cross-section...
:)
Well, after going through the rest of the NY Times' Dining & Wine section, "decadent" seems to be theme of the day: burgers, a review of the new Belgian spot, Resto - a deviled egg on top of a breaded, deep-fried pork jowl; the new Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel; the rising demand and cost of beef; and...
POUTINE! (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/23/dining/23pout.html?ref=dining)

DR MattH, you didn't put spoiler space re: the VERONICA MARS finale. In your second post you didn't even write the words VERONICA MARS. Luckily i didn't see what you wrote. Looking forward to seeing it.
Having actually watched this one (in lieu of anything interesting on other channels to watch) I have to say he did not reveal any spoiler information that I considered "spoilage." No specifics revealed about the story or resolution of same.
-
Craig is adorable! :-) And Yogi's not bad, either!
-
For bk: Will there be any music/book changes to THE BRAIN when it lands in LA next June?
-
I know I am horribly out of the cultural zeitgeist, but I saw American Idol for the first time this season last night (just the last 5 minutes or so, as I waited for On the Lot to start). Sorry, I just don't get Jordin--she sounded much better on the recap tunes than she did on the big power ballad finale, IMHO. The other guy was pleasant enough--nothing special (again IMHO). On the Lot was really enjoyable. Gabe is a budding filmmaker, so we're going to let him stay up to watch after school lets out.
Don't be sorry...except for the ones who put them in the final two.
Neither is remotely as good as Melinda Doolittle, who was ousted last week after having been declared best of the night and a sure thing for the final two.
I saw the last song....Blake's weaknesses were on full display. I didn't think much of Jordin, either.
Oh, well. It's all moot.
I'll watch "Lost" tonight. I don't have any desire to see either of them "crowned"...and I'm certain Jordin will win.
-
My presentation is finished. Now I'm going to get a haircut and some lunch. I should have gotten a haircut before the presentation but the room was dark so no one noticed!
DR Ben - Glad to know that your presentation went well. And I hope you have a good haircut too. Since I was down in Chelsea yesterday, I went ahead and headed on over to Chelsea Barber for my usual haircut too. I ended up getting a new barber, and he gave me a rather nice 'do.
-
No. 1 on my birth date:
"Twelfth Street Rag" by Pee Wee Hunt
-
I recorded the IDOL show last night but had no interest in watching it "live." I thought after reading recaps if there was something I had to watch, I'd have it. Well, after reading the recaps, I will erase the show without even watching.
Chris Daughtry's closing number was WELL worth seeing.
-
DR Ben - congratulations on your successful presentation. Now you can relax while DR Cillaliz and I are "On."
Speaking of presentations, my boss (whose office is within earshot of my desk) is at this moment presenting in a Webinar. He's in there showing his PowerPoint slides and talking at his computer. He says it feels very Star Trek-y.
-
Chris Daughtry's closing number was WELL worth seeing.
But what was with all the eye shadow?!?!??!
-
I also think it was a very interesting "comment" to have Chris Daughtry close the show. Just goes to show that the "losers" can have careers too. Successful careers.
-
I may surrender to the need for James Bond this afternoon.
I can't tell you how many times I have said that to myself...and yet Sean Connery never shows up at my door.

Here's another way to pass the time that a friend of mine just forwarded to me:
What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born? (http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm)
.
"Vaya con Dios" by Les Paul and Mary Ford
Der Brucer's is "A Tisket, a Tasket" by Ella Fitzgerald.
-
Oh... And when I was born, the #1 song was:
"People Got to Be Free" by The Rascals
-
I can't tell you how many times I have said that to myself...and yet Sean Connery never shows up at my door.
;D
Alas, you never show up at my door either, DR MBarnum.
;)
-
Everybody else's No. 1 song is better than mine!
[pout]
At least, I think they are. I know those songs, but I don't have a clue what my song sounds like.
-
So...
With the upcoming Band version of "Idol" coming up...
Do you think they'll make them cover a BeeGees song one week? And then a Rolling Stones one the next?
???
-
We took this one last night at bedtime. Before we had a puppy our bed looked much nicer ;D
Au contraire! Every bed looks better with a puppy on it!
-
DR RLP, 12 Street Rag is a pretty decent song!
-
DR Jose, you never know when I may show up at your doorstep...especially should DR Elmore change the locks on his door.
-
Everybody else's No. 1 song is better than mine!
[pout]
At least, I think they are. I know those songs, but I don't have a clue what my song sounds like.
Hmm.. I'm sure you've heard the "12th Street Rag" sometime, but just didn't know what it was called. It goes like this:
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
;)
-
DR Jose, you never know when I may show up at your doorstep...especially should DR Elmore change the locks on his door.
:)
-
And it looks like this:
-
OH! Fleet Week starts today!
Decadent, I tell you. Decadent!
-
Thanks Jose. We have talked about taking Sherlock & driving to Pittsburgh. Now we aren’t sure if we have the time & Yogi takes a bit of time to warm up to new people and dogs. I would still like to do it, so we shall see.
At the moment I just want to stay home for awhile. Unfortunately I can’t. Keith hasn’t seen his mother in a long time & she wants to meet Sherlock. We just arranged for our housesitters, found hotels that accept dogs and will be leaving Saturday morning.
-
Dear Esteemed BK:
Have you tried the new Diet Coke Plus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_Coke_Plus) yet? It's a new formula, with vitamins and minerals added - Diet Coke goes healthy. We've had it on sale at the store for a month or so now, and I was wondering if you had an opinion about it.
-
OH! Fleet Week starts today!
Decadent, I tell you. Decadent!
All hands on decadent!
-
And if you want to hear what it sounds like, here's a link to a cool marimba version of the "12th Street Rag".
Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project (http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/search.php?queryType=@attr%201=1016&query=blue%20amberol&num=1&start=1&sortBy=&sortOrder=id)
You can click on a link in the middle of the page for a streaming audio version, or download it as an MP3 or WAV file. The main hook of the tune comes after the intro.
*It's also just a really cool site too.
-
Thanks Ginny & Edi. Craig was extremely tired & I had a difficult time getting him moving, we had soooooo much to do. Maybe it is good he was so tired, he saved me from spending a fortune on him, as it was I only spent a small fortune.
I spoke to him last night & he sounds happy, pleased with his classes & had just purchased a 4 pound laptop. I can’t wait until he gets an internet service.
-
Ben-great song!
My song was Buttons and Bows-Dinah Shore
Keith’s was Cruising Down the River-Russ Morgan
Bryan’s was Tonight’s the Nights-Rod Steward
Craig’s was My Sharona-The Knack. I don’t remember this one
-
Craig’s was My Sharona-The Knack. I don’t remember this one
"Muh-Muh-Muh My Sharona
My! My! My! My! My! Whoo!"
I remember that song.
Hmm... I suddenly feel old(er).
;)
-
LOL-That doesn't sound like a song I would want to remember.
-
LOL-That doesn't sound like a song I would want to remember.
Well, apparently, the song had some unseemly subtext too. So, better best not remembered.
-
Lovely photos of Craig and Yogi and Mr. Sherlock also!
-
I also think it was a very interesting "comment" to have Chris Daughtry close the show. Just goes to show that the "losers" can have careers too. Successful careers.
Way MORE successful than most of the winners, too.

Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel for me..

Hmm.. I'm sure you've heard the "12th Street Rag" sometime, but just didn't know what it was called. It goes like this:
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Da-da-da-Dah
;)
Ohhhh....sure....why, that's "peppy."
-
Thanks Dakots-nice song too.
Poor Craig getting, were they at least British? He is, or was, into British pop. I don't know what his favorite music is now.
-
ASK BK
I just noticed on the original release of the David Shire CD (Bay Cities) the musical movements for the Reurn of Oz suite are indicated by the word index. Can you explain the use of indexes on cd tracks?
It was an old practice that was abandoned a long time ago - classical album did it all the time - instead of giving an overall suite separate track numbers, you gave the interior changes index numbers - CD players used to have the capability to go directly to an index point rather than a track - don't know if they still do.

Ask BK Day!
(1) As the director of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, did you find yourself making any changes to the characters that you, as the author, had created; based on the actors you cast in the first production?
(2) Did you ever get around to watching the DVD of NATIONAL PASTIME?
Yes - me as director is very uncaring of me as a writer, unless it's a humorous moment that I know is funny in the writing, which I will protect with a ferocity. That said, I'm very collaborative if the actor is really bringing interesting things to the table, and I'm not collaborative if the actor is bringing things in that are really obviously wrong. So, in the case of Cason and Lauren and Alet, they would constantly do things in rehearsal that I loved, and I'd say yes, lock that up and keep it, or yes, but let's go even further. And yes, I've certainly made character adjustments based on what the actor is doing, because sometimes it's more interesting than what we wrote.
I did finally get around to watching National Pastime a couple of days ago and was going to write about it. I still think the play isn't really a play play - I find it awkwardly written and structured - but TCB is wonderful as Branch Rickey - a really well-nuanced and excellent performance, and much better than the one done here.
-
Off to work....
My question for ASK BRUSHES DAY:
If you could do a commentary on any film that hasn't been released on DVD yet, what film would it be?
I would be happy to do a commentary track on Frank Perry's Ladybug, Ladybug, on Frank Tashlin's Bachelor Flat, and, of course, on The Creeping Terror.
-
Question for BK -
If When The Brain from Planet X plays in a metropolitan area that's not LA, would you "localize" the geographic references?
No, it will always be the San Fernando Valley, just because it makes me laugh, and it's so typical.
-
Question for one and all DRs and bk,
What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing on television?
The first TV show I actively remember seeing that wasn't kid oriented was Boston Blackie.
-
i just noticed I typed Dakots, I kind of like that.
-
For bk: Will there be any music/book changes to THE BRAIN when it lands in LA next June?
Not sure about music changes (doubtful, but you never know), but there will definitely be some book adjustments - not many, but I'm still unhappy with a few things and we'll try to fix those for our next go-round.
-
So, what was the number one song the week of December 8th, 1947?
-
Oh, and I'm up, and it's later than it should be (what else is new) and I have to get ready for my early lunch with dear reader Jeanne.
-
Apparently LEGALLY BLONDE and LOVEMUSIK will NOT be performing on the Tonys as previously announced.
I know in theory this idea put people up in arms (it's tradition that only nominated shows for BEST MUSICAL can perform). But as someone who really wanted to see a performance by LEGALLY BLONDE especially. I am extremely disapopinted. :(

Well, you can always go to Legally Blonde's website for some clips. Oh,and YouTube too. ;)
*And at least on those sites, the numbers won't be truncated or adjusted for the stage of Radio City Music Hall.

"Hearts of Stone" by The Fontane Sisters

So, what was the number one song the week of December 8th, 1947?
"Ballerina" by Vaughn Monroe

I didn't notice that I hit a millstone last night (ouch!). 4,000!

I will have last night's SVU to get to today and also THE SOPRANOS from Sunday night.
I hope I didn't say too much in what was clearly a Spoliers Report on SVU! If so, I'm really sorry.

Anthony loves that site. He has found performances of many songs which he thought were long lost. They have an amazing number of clips including speaking clips of some famous people of old. Unfortunately, the Oscar Wilde clip of him reading from The Ballad of Reading Gaol is short and not in good shape so it's hard to understand.
-
Hey, DR elmore - I would actually like to see "Hot Fuzz" again. So, if you do end up going...
*Although, while I was in Chinatown on Saturday, I did buy an "advance copy" of the "Hot Fuzz" DVD. ::) :-X
There's a 5:30 showing at 84th Street that I was thinking about attending, so . . .

OH! Fleet Week starts today!
Decadent, I tell you. Decadent!
Are you bringing back sailors for everyone?

I shall shortly be on my way to have lunch at the Farmer's Market.

Time for more pictures.
I will tempt you with food.
We had a professional chef on our Monday at the Mansion. He made an amazing dinner. This is a picture of him in the kitchen with just a portion of the food (which included Australian steak and Florida lobster tails)
-
We also had amazing desserts including Key Lime Pie
-
All caught up, DR Ben?
PAGES of posts you simply could not do without? :)
-
We also had a birthday cake to die for!!!

Still have a couple of days to read Singdaw.
Here is the last food picture. It's not really food, just candy. A friend bought Karen personalized M&Ms. They lasted a couple of days. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.

Dang, that key lime pie looked tasty!

I will never forget a(n) LOL moment years ago when I was subletting rooms in a house I rented. We were all gathered around the communal tv watching (IIRC) "Murder, She Wrote," when one of our slightly tipsy and drug-addled roommates excitedly blurted out upon seeing a guest star, "Ooooh--Hurd Hatfield!!" Maybe you had to have been there.

For the culturally unaware in our nation's hinterlands (you, DR Laura) I offer this bit of understated prose:
LA TIMES (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2007/05/american_idol_i.html#more)
So at last we have come to this – tonight on the Kodak stage the eyes of a nation will be on two young singers as they meet in a final gladiatorial death match. Resting on their performances tonight – whether Jordin Sparks or Blake Lewis will join Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks on the opening credits elevator ride to stardom.
Tonight, America will face perhaps its toughest decision of the decade. At this hour, somewhere backstage at the Kodak, two very young people prepare for the fate of a nation to fall on their shoulders. Who will rise to the challenge?
Brings to tears to the eyes....

Question for one and all DRs and bk,
What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing on television?
First TV show - on my fourth grade teachers brand new 3" TV - a Hopalong Cassidy movie.
Next exposure - the weekly telecast of Wrestling From Rainbow (all the scouts gathered together and the den Mom made pop corn)
First TV series - I Love Lucy

British music producer Jonathan Shalit and Sony/BMG are putting together a new music supergroup called BROADWAY 4 that will aim to do for Broadway classic songs what the group Il Divo has done for opera.
Shalit and Sony/BMG are seeking four men, age 20 to 35, sexy and charismatic with outstanding Broadway legit/pop voices for BROADWAY 4. Auditions have recently been held in London, and on Wednesday, June 6 an open audition will be held in New York, with agent submission auditions on June 7 and 8, and final callbacks June 11. The small group of singers chosen in New York will be flown to London to gather with the six London finalists. Those singers will then work with the group’s creative team, who will determine who will be the BROADWAY 4. An announcement will be made in late June.
Sony/BMG will release BROADWAY 4’s debut cd this fall internationally.

Question for one and all DRs and bk,
What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing on television?
I can remember watching "The Carol Burnett Show" and "The Dean Martin Show" when we lived in Germany. I was four years old when we moved there and about seven when we left.
-
Here's another way to pass the time that a friend of mine just forwarded to me:
What Was the #1 Song On the Day You Were Born? (http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm)
DR Tomovoz - Alas, it only applies to the U.S. Billboard charts.
May 5, 1966 ... "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & the Papas
-
Chris Daughtry's closing number was WELL worth seeing.
Too late! Gone forever.
-
DR JMK - I really like "The Lot" a lot too last night. And I think the panel of judges is actually a pretty decent cross-section of talent too.
Okay, I missed something. What is "The Lot" and what's it all about...Alfie??
;)
-
Will we never get to page six?
It'll happen.
-
I hope I didn't say too much in what was clearly a Spoliers Report on SVU! If so, I'm really sorry.
I read what you had to say, DR Elmore, but it didn't spoil it in the least. And by the time I get to it tonight, I'll be too enveloped in the story to remember what you wrote, and it'll all seem fresh to me. No worries.
-
I heard that clip on the radio and thought he was referring to the chihuahua.
-
I began my afternoon with YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, another in the series of Ultimate Edition James Bond remasters.
It looked and sounded spectacular. Not a speck or blemish to be seen, and the surround channels got a nice workout, especiall the .1 LFE channel which rumbled quite a bit throughout the movie.
-
And for someone who rarely turns on the television and hasn't watched a reality show since "Starting Over" was canceled, I know a lot about American Idol.
-
Next, I watched THE SOPRANOS from Sunday night. As the show winds down, the action has started heating up just a bit. With only two episodes to go, who knows what directions the show will go into now?
-
American Idol Dance!
-
I finished the afternoon watching more of the Peter Cushing HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, this time off the DVD rather than off the Encores channel. MGM didn't do an anamorphic transfer, but at least it is letterboxed, so I got the TV to stretch it out, and it still looks very good with just a little print damage. The Encores presentations are always full screen, so I prefer the small letterbox they're using with the 1.66 transfer.
-
I still have SVU to go, and I may try to squeeze in another PLANET EARTH episode if I can tonight. Since I won't be watching IDOL or the LOST recap show, my prime time won't start until 9.

The Telarc label was the one that consistently used index markers for their classical recordings in the early years of CD. I don't know that they do this so much any more...
How many CD players are still made that can even read or indicate the index markers? I remember seeing those listed on a couple of CDs that I own, but I've never had a player that can actually show them. ::)

Question for one and all DRs and bk,
What was the first tv show, aside from children's programming you remember seeing on television?
I LOVE LUCY. In the Fifties they didn't have a lot to fill up the television day with, so I saw lots and lots of LUCY and DECEMBER BRIDE and I MARRIED JOAN. That is probably why I can't watch Lucy reruns to this day. And there was the one lady on the Lucy laughtrack who they used when Lucy was about to get in trouble. It was always the same, "Oh oh...followed by a titter"
-
Over 100 pages of entering corrections. Taking a break, then will do at least another fifty or so.
These are above and beyond the ones already made by you and Margaret?
-
Okay, I missed something. What is "The Lot" and what's it all about...Alfie??
;)
It's a reality show about young filmmakers co-produced by Steven Spielberg. That's all I know, since I forgot to watch it!
-
Good Evening!
It certainly was a glorious afternoon for a jaunt in Central Park and the Upper West Side. I went here, I went there. -And, yes, I did stop into Levain - my first time in a week! ;)
I peeked into Grom, and noticed that original Italian crew was not working the counter. They had a trio of college-age men wearing t-shirts that said "conista in training" on them. Sort of cute - the t-shirts, not the co-eds, that is. ;)
-
Maybe I forgot because I hate reality shows...but since Spielberg is attached I want to give it a chance.
-
So, is there another "Lost" recap show tonight? I thought it was just the two-hour finale tonight.
-
Hey, DR elmore - I would actually like to see "Hot Fuzz" again. So, if you do end up going...

I did finally get around to watching National Pastime a couple of days ago and was going to write about it. I still think the play isn't really a play play - I find it awkwardly written and structured - but TCB is wonderful as Branch Rickey - a really well-nuanced and excellent performance, and much better than the one done here.
Wow! Thank you, BK.

Good evening. My presentation went very well. One of the attendees asked if I just did the immigration topic so they would see how much I know and refer all their immigration cases to me. I said "Well..." he laughed and he was planning on it anyway
-
It's a reality show about young filmmakers co-produced by Steven Spielberg. That's all I know, since I forgot to watch it!
Ahhh...I vaguely remember hearing something about that.
-
DR Cillaliz - congratulations on your successful presentation. I hope it results in lots of business sent your way!
-
Sounds like everyone had a successful presentation day. cool
-
Branch Rickey.
Is that DR TCB's porn name?
;)
-
Well, the postman just brought my Amazon.com book order including the scandalous newly published journals of Leo Lerman. I'm already in shock: did you all know that Yul Brynner's lovers included Hurd Hatfield and Marlene Dietrich? My mother would plotz.
At the same time?
-
Somehow that seems appropriate DR MBarnum. Is it because you're a lesbian? (a JMK and Betsy reference) (DRs FJL and Elmore will know the connection).
I also am aware fo the sapphic tendencies of the Singing Nun.
-
JMK-Cute ditty & I wasn’t expecting to like it-after all Jews do camp.
-
Three day old nameless elephant baby plays in his enclosure at the Zoological Garden
I LOVE baby elephants-too cute. Thank you.
-
I also am aware fo the sapphic tendencies of the Singing Nun.
And of course the name "Sister Smile" seems to fit too.
-
That's the only incentive needed. It shall be done.
Oh Good!
If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead be sure to see it as well as Hot Fuzz.
Jose the link shows a British version & a US one. Do you know the difference or was that just for the site?
-
Tonight, I'll be recording "Lost." I'm going to see a local production of The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas. I'm sure that it'll be quite nice. The theater group tends to cast nubile young men...and this show needs a lot of them. ;D
George, Chris got a very nice review in the Tacoma paper. And no, he isn't playing one of the Aggies.
-
DVR Alert:
VH1 is screening From Justin to Kelly tonight.
-
Cilla-Congratulations!!
Ben-What fun photos & now I want some cake.
-
OK, I can take a hint...
After twice trying to order Pigskin Parade from Amazon, and having the order cancelled or delayed...
I cancelled the order myself and picked it up at my local Borders.
This is a very discouraging situation. I got a notice saying the title was no longer available. But then was linked to a different "version" that was just released.
I had to reorder it, with an expected "processing" period of 6 to 9 days.
A brand-new title issued Tuesday...and not immediately available. Incredible.
Even though the DVD is from the same folks who did "On the Riviera" and "Can-Can", it is apparently miles apart in availability for amazon.com.
-
So, is there another "Lost" recap show tonight? I thought it was just the two-hour finale tonight.
The 8-9 slot on ABC will be a re-airing of the "overview" show they aired last Thursday.
That show would be a great one to watch for anyone not familiar with the show but curious.
-
If I got the year right "Too Each His Own" was #1 when DR Elmore was born.
-
It's a very smart and very funny satire/parody of action movies - plus a couple of other genres - done by the same guys who did "Shaun of the Dead" - which spoofed horror movies.
www.hotfuzz.com
*And it's a rather inventive website too. Just click on the bullet holes. ;)
I have SHAUN OF THE DEAD sitting on my DVD player at this very moment. Damn, I just gave away my Friday post!!!
-
Enjoy!
-
Branch Rickey.
Is that DR TCB's porn name?

No, that would be Trunk Rickey.
-
Oh Good!
If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead be sure to see it as well as Hot Fuzz.
Jose the link shows a British version & a US one. Do you know the difference or was that just for the site?
I think the difference only makes a difference when it comes to finding "local" info about the show - times, theatres, etc. Plus ordering the merchandise.
-
What is HOT FUZZ?
I have just returned from laughing myself silly at HOT FUZZ, which does to the Cop Buddy Film, THE WICKER MAN, and the Quaint English Village Murder Mystery what SHAUN OF THE DEAD did to George Romero. Is it a hoot? An enormous one. I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and the rest of the cast is quite wonderful: Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton, Bill Nighy, Kenneth Cranham, Billie Whitelaw whom I last saw playing the mother in the wonderful gangster film THE KRAYS, and Edward Woodward of THE WICKER MAN.
I think I'll see it again tomorrow at 4:00!
-
Okay, I was just plowing my way through a couple of boxes in the garage and found a little Bay Cities stash - so, it's not much, but I offer it here, first come, first served -
Exactly two copies of the cast album of A Doll's Life by Comden and Green and Larry Grossman, and exactly one copy of Schmidt and Jones' Celebration. They're fifteen bucks each and if you don't have 'em, I grab them pronto. They won't be sealed when you get them, as they're in those old blisterpax, with the booklet on top and the CD and jewel case on the bottom - I'm going to open the blisterpax and put them together, for much easier shipping.
Also, for those who are wise souls, I have found about ten copies of one of the Bay Cities' classical albums, and it's absolutely brilliant, by one of my favorite composer/arrangers, Claus Ogerman. This CD includes two of his great works, Symphonic Dances and his ballet, Some Times (some of which was used in his classic Gate Of Dreams album). Mr. Ogerman conducts the New York Studio Orchestra, and, if you know my taste at all, this is one of the most gorgeous albums you'll ever hear. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The CD has been out of print since 1992. It's also fifteen dollars. So, if you're interested in these titles, I'd e-mail me as quickly as possible at kritzerland@aol.com. To it!

Hi folks,
Today was a very busy day for Thelma and I. We went to a couple of places and I was able to find the most lovely roses for Mom and a nice flower arrangement for Joey.
Tomorrow is going to be one of the hardest days of my life and I am so glad that Thelma is here with me.
In case you would like to see what the obituaries in the paper said, here are the links:

OOHH!!! Well, if you see it again tomorrow, then I'll probably join you then. This way, it will be our second time for each of us. -I know there were lots of references and jokes I missed the first time. -I just loved how the whole premise just kind of snuck on me - and the rest of the people in the theatre. Again, very smartly done. And Timothy Dalton is priceless! "It hurts." :)
-
No, that would be Trunk Rickey.
Not Trunk Dickey?
-
JMK-Cute ditty & I wasn’t expecting to like it-after all Jews do camp.
I know--that's what I told Betsy. :) My father was an inveterate camper (and also an in-veteran camper).
The show is correctly called On the Lot, IIRC. It's produced by Mark (Survivor) Burnett and Spielberg. The judges are Carrie Fisher, Garry Marshall and the guy who directed X Men (Brett something). It was really quite enjoyable. The second episode airs tomorrow.
-
I need to correct that about the flowers. The roses are for Mom and Dad.
-
George, Chris got a very nice review in the Tacoma paper. And no, he isn't playing one of the Aggies.
Cool! I haven't seen Chris in a while.
-
And of course DR PennyO was in the cast of "A Doll's Life". Reason enough for the CD to be purchased.
-
Here's Simon Pegg our leading man with the two detective Andys in HOT FUZZ.
Previews were a mixed bag: BECOMING JANE, a film about Jane Austen's romantic life and the persuasion to turn down a proposal of marriage which left her a spinster, a true situation to which she added a happy ending for Anne Elliot in her last published and most moving novel PERSUASION. Looks quite wonderful with Anne Hathaway, Julie Walters and Maggie Smith.
Other previews: a sci fi film which looks like a rehash of WAR OF THE WORLDS and a Jackie Chan-Chris Tucker buddy cop film set in Paris.
-

The last showing tomorrow is at 4:00 pm.
-
DR MBarnum, if you want to know more about the Singing Nun, DR tomovoz saw the wonderful dramatization of her life last September during his New York visit. I'm sure he or DR FJL can fill you in on all the facts you don't know.
-
My snoring must be pretty bad because Thelma bought ear plugs today. I bought Breathe Right Strips, Breathe Right Snore Relief Throat Spray, Zicam to put up my nose and I'm going to take another Claritin before bed tonight. If that doesn't work, I can't help her. Sigh.
I really do snore quite loudly and I guess I shall have to have that looked into when I get back home. It's funny but it's not.
-
Hi Danise. Continued thoughts and prayers. I know how difficult it all is.
I saw the obit after I did a google search for newspapers in Pittsburgh, but I didn't post a link because it has your name. Internet safety and all.
-
I really do snore quite loudly and I guess I shall have to have that looked into when I get back home. It's funny but it's not.
DR Danise...it could or could not be sleep apnea, which is quite treatable.
-
Hi Danise. Continued thoughts and prayers. I know how difficult it all is.
I saw the obit after I did a google search for newspapers in Pittsburgh, but I didn't post a link because it has your name. Internet safety and all.
Well, as you said, you were able to find it by a google search so I guess there's nothing there that anyone couldn't find if they really wanted to.
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. :)
-
And, of course, all best thoughts and supportive vibes to DR Danise and DF Thelma, especially tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing the obits and for keeping us all up to date!
-
DR Danise...it could or could not be sleep apnea, which is quite treatable.
I honestly think it could be. I've had times when I wake up and have a horrible headache or I've caught myself not breathing.
-
DR Danise...it could or could not be sleep apnea, which is quite treatable.
...it could or could not be? You sound like the loan officer at my credit union.
-
Hmm...
Just watching "Idol"... Well, there's been some of the usual filler crap - "The Golden Idols" - but the segments with the Top Six Men and Top Six Women haven't been bad so far.
-
Danise, you and your mother remain in my prayers.
-
...it could or could not be?
I'm not a doctor. I just play one on TV. ;)
-
And please give DF Thelma a thank you hug from all of us.
-
I just hope Dr Hegerty came up with right combo so poor Thelma can get some sleep tonight.
-
Danise, you and your mother remain in my prayers.
Thank you TCB.
Thelma wants to know who you think will win AI. Also what do you think about Melinda being voted off.
-
You meaning everyone on the board not just you, TCB.
-
Well, I knew your last name, which is how I knew which one was your mother. I would have had to have read through all of them, otherwise.
-
DR DearReaderLaura and I think it is a shame that Sanjaya didn't win. :P
Of course, neither of us watches the show! ;)
-
I am still hopeful that Sanjaya can come from behind and win.
(Ducking and running)
-
You meaning everyone on the board not just you, TCB.
I'm glad to hear that, since I don't watch the show. However, it will be Jordin.
-
Actually, I am rooting for Jordin, as she is a local gal. But not enough to use any of my cell phone minutes to call and vote.
-
And it will be the headline news here if she wins.
-
A quick good evening to the dear Esteemed Grande Mensch, the studlies, lovelies, H/Ks, DRs, cookies-in-the-cookie-jar, chiseled pecs, ripplings abs, buns of steel, and G.P. .....
I had another long work day today...... I'm gonna give Sugar a quick walk, and then grab a little something to eat !
To quote dear Jose...... WHEW !!!
-
That's ok. I don't watch it either. :)
I have to go in and get my shower then to bed. It's going to be a long hard day tomorrow.
Thank you all again for the prayers, hugs and love. Your the BEST! :)
Good evening.
-
DR Danise - Just make sure you don't overmedicate.
Sleep well.
-
Awww... That was a nice way to feature Melinda.
:)
-
And it will be the headline news here if she wins.
And it will be headline news here if Blake wins.
-
DR elmore - Shall we go ahead and see "Hot Fuzz" tomorrow afternoon? And then head out margaritas or other libations afterwards?
-
DWTS SPOILER
****************
Of course, it was headline news here today that Apollo won.
-
I don't watch AI or DWTS, but know 'way more about them than I'd like because our departmental secretaries do watch and discuss them at great length every morning. Since their desks are between mine and the managers' I hear it all. This morning they were wondering out loud just who this Apollo is - they thought he was a soccer player ::)
-
Sorry I missed DR Danise while she was here - I was off eating chicken spaghetti with my family.
Continued thoughts and prayers for a comforting day tomorrow.
-
It's time for me to leave work and run a few errands before I go see TBLWIT*. I want to go home to make sure that my DVR (problematic as it is) is set to record everything that I want recorded...especially "Lost! Have a good evening, all!
*The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas ;)
-
Doll's Life and Celebration are now gone. And the Ogermans are going, too, so if you want one (and it's really worth it), act quickly.
-
Sorry I missed DR Danise while she was here - I was off eating chicken spaghetti with my family.
Chicken spaghetti????
-
DR elmore - Shall we go ahead and see "Hot Fuzz" tomorrow afternoon? And then head out margaritas or other libations afterwards?
Sointenly, as the Three Stooges would say!
DR Danise, I hope everything goes well tomorrow with the service and the burial. Let us know how it goes.
-

If they have any photos of the Aggies on the wall, you might want to steal them for DR Michael Barnum to plan his dance card for 2047! They should be in his date range by then.
-
Chicken spaghetti????
Spaghetti with meat sauce, substituting chicken for ground beef. It's something I invented years ago to use up some leftover roasted chicken and has become a favorite of DS Rob's. Unfortunately, he's still pretty sick with mono, so didn't eat very much.
-
~~~~~PROPERLY WORKING VIBES TO DR GEORGE'S DVR~~~~~
-
If they have any photos of the Aggies on the wall, you might want to steal them for DR Michael Barnum to plan his dance card for 2047! They should be in his date range by then.
To Hell with that. I think DR Jane should start preparing DS Craig for who he can expect at his door on his 65th birthday.
-
I'm sorry I missed Danise again.
You continue to be in my thoughts & heart.
-
The #1 Song
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
-
Who is Leo Lerman and why is he saying all those things about Yul Bryner?
-
Oh...
For anyone who will be in or near New York City area before June 10, and would still like to see Journey's End, they are offering $35 tickets through Playbill.com. And I'd have to say that would be $35 well spent.
Journey's End - Playbill Club Offer (http://www.playbill.com/club/offers/offer_detail/1551.html)
-
Doll's Life and Celebration are now gone. And the Ogermans are going, too, so if you want one (and it's really worth it), act quickly.
The Ogermans????
-
An "Idol" Observation...
Well, I guess they finally got permission to perform Beatles' songs. Hmm...
-
The Ogermans????
Yes, Claus himself.
-
TCB-LOL
-
DR Ginny-I was in Portland & missed that DS Rob has mono.
Was he able to complete the school year?
Speedy healing vibes to him!
-
Is it just me, or do the previews of The CW's new series HIDDEN PALMS make it look like a rehash of THE OC?
-
OH!
Has any other DR seen that Stanley Steemer commercial where the kid teaches his dog a new way to "walk"? ;)
-
THE OC?
Ah, DR MBarnum's favorite...
The Octogenarian Club.
-
DVR ALERT!!!!
For anyone recording "Idol"....
It looks like they're going to 10:05 rather than 10:01. Possibly even 10:06 at this point.
-
Jose I haven't seen the commercial. Shall I try and find it? We watch so few commericials.
-
In todays notes about Prince of the City BK mentioned
. There is also a really nice score by Paul Chihara.
Is that the same dude who wrote the score for the musical version of SHOGUN>
-
Yes, Claus himself.
I am still lost. Who or what is Claus Ogerman? What kind of recording is this?
-
OH! (#2)
I had one of the best subway rides today...
When I boarded the train, I heard some guy complaining... Complaining in a very loud, resonant voice. Well, it turned out to be a homeless man. But he wasn't complaining. Instead he was starting his stand-up routine. :)
I have to tell you, I live in the best place in NYC. I know a lot of you pay anywhere from $1100 to $3000 for your places, and you live in the best places in Manhattan. I pay $2.00 rent, and I get to live all over the island.
...And just wait until you meet my wife. My wife is so fat. She weighs 384 pounds. And that's just on the weekends.
Please remember to take your newspapers with you when you leave the train. I have company coming later.
I've encountered this man once before, and I have to say he truly has a wonderful outlook on his situation. And he certainly makes the subway go by a lot faster.
:)
-
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
-
Jose I haven't seen the commercial. Shall I try and find it? We watch so few commericials.
I'd say it's worth a Google search. I've literally laughed out loud each time I've seen it.
-
Oh... And I actually saw Shogun during it's pre-Broadway tryout at the Kennedy Center. I don't think I've ever laughed more unintentionally and uncomfortably before or since.
-
DR Jane - Through the wonders of YouTube, here's the link to the commercial:
Toby's New Trick (http://youtube.com/watch?v=wul2qgpq_4g)
I think all dog lovers and homeowners will appreciate it. ;)
-
Oh...
"Idol" ran over by 10 minutes.
-
If they have any photos of the Aggies on the wall, you might want to steal them for DR Michael Barnum to plan his dance card for 2047! They should be in his date range by then.
You know, I can't figure out how I have gotten this reputation...I have never dated anyone older the 48 years of age. Not that I haven't met guys older then that wouldn't mind dating.
-
Oh...
"Idol" ran over by 10 minutes.
You mean it is finally over?
-
Who is Leo Lerman and why is he saying all those things about Yul Bryner?
Leo Lerman was editor at Mademoiselle, Vogue and later Vanity Fair, he attended every opening in New until his death at age 80 in 1994, he gave famous parties, and knew everyone: he mentions so far my late friends Philip Bloom publicist for the Cheryl Crawford revival of PORGY & BESS - and lover of Todd Duncan during it - and Paula Laurence, who played the comedy lead in ONE TOUCH OF VENUS and sang "By the Missississississinawah" with Ethel Merman in SOMETHING FOR THE BOYS. Philip and Paula were old friends and Philip was later Elaine Stritch's press agent.
The book is a biography of Leo, partly Leo's unfinished book supplemented with his letters and journal entries. It's also a social history of the New York glitterati, from Truman Capote and Carson McCullers to Harold Arlen and others, from 1939 to 1994.
I introduced actor Simon Callow to Paula when Simon was writing his bio of Orson Wells and Paula introduced Simon to Leo. I believe Leo also had a fling with Mr Brynner, but I haven't got that far in the book.
-
You know, I can't figure out how I have gotten this reputation...I have never dated anyone older the 48 years of age. Not that I haven't met guys older then that wouldn't mind dating.
Ah-ha!
August 26, 1950
DR TCB and I share a number one song:
Goodnight, Irene by The Weavers!
-
Teddy Bear by Elvis Presley
-
I have been watching some movies sent to me by DR MBARNUM including:
BLAZE STARR GOES NUDIST
GENTLEMEN PREFER NATURE GIRLS
THE GIRL IN BLACK STOCKINGS
THE UNDERTAKER AND HIS FRIENDS
I have been watching some movies sent to me by DR MBARNUM including:
on purpose? :D
Todd Duncan played Porgy in both the original 1935 production and the 1940(??) revival.
I know, but my Todd is cuter.
-
I'm too old to find the link but I think it was an elvis record.
-
May 2, 1960 here.
A child, a babe in arms, a mere enfant! ;D
-
on purpose?
Well, I did ask for some of them. ;D
-
Maybe I forgot because I hate reality shows...
Although--- I did like the Cirque du Soleil show on Bravo. I only saw a few episodes but it was fascinating watching how a show comes together.
-
Danise I have been thinking of you during these terrible days, I am so glad that Thelma is there with you
-
Ask bk: Will Guy Haines/bk make an appearance at the benefit show and perform a song or two?
-
Seems to be "Stuck on You" by Elvira Pretzel, DR FJL.
-
Well, I did ask for some of them. ;D
well you know what they say.... be careful what you wish for, you just may get it
-
I thought I had mentioned that the LOST recap show was being rerun tonight before the two hour LOST season finale, but maybe I didn't. I meant to.
-
If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead be sure to see it as well as Hot Fuzz.
I must see them both!
-
I remember
People Are Funny
I Love Lucy
-
Thanks FJL! Elvis for you.
-
Wow! DR TCB...."Goodnight Irene" by Gordon Jenkins and the Weavers was number one from the week of August 19 to November 11, 1950.
I would guess a LOT of people share our honor.
-
elusive DR WFO and I also had the geat pleasure of enjoying the orchestrations of DR Elmore whilst laughing ourselves silly watching Sister Smile and her best friend
-
Thanks DR JRand
-
well you know what they say.... be careful what you wish for, you just may get it
I wish I had a million dollars and a nickel. ;D
-
Thanks DR JRand
My pleasure....my only pleasure, it seems. ;)
-
You mean it is finally over?
It was over for me last week.
-
I wish I had a million dollars and a nickel. ;D
:D
-
Wow! DR TCB...."Goodnight Irene" by Gordon Jenkins and the Weavers was number one from the week of August 19 to November 11, 1950.
I would guess a LOT of people share our honor.
And we are only three days apart. I'm older - of course.
-
There is a wonderful documentary premiering tonight on HBO called WIDE AWAKE, by Alan Berliner (one of my favorite documentary directors.)
The subject is insomnia, but his films are always filtered through his own experiences and are very entertaining. Appropriately enough, it is premiering at 1:30AM for the insomniacs, and then at 8PM tomorrow night. (I saw it at the festival we premiered our film...with Mr. Berlier himself!)
-
Thanks Deb. You've answered my question.
-
I began my evening with SVU, and DR Elmore was right: so many character threads dangling at the end of the season. Who knows what will happen to any of them.
Very entertaining show, though I didn't agree with the jury's decision at all.
-
And we are only three days apart. I'm older - of course.
That's the Leo speaking for you. 8)
-
Next came another episode of PLANET EARTH, one of the best yet called "Shallow Seas." The underwater photography was so incredible, I kept running things back to watch them again it was so stunning. Just amasing stuff.
-
I have more movies to watch.
And - while I may cause some envy here at HHW - I must say that DRMBARNUM secured personalized autographed photos of Miss Laurie Mitchell for me...one from QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE and the other from ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE....
Life is good!
-
I now have 20 songs listed! It would be 21 is Dear Reader Laura would play fair.
-
Not Trunk Dickey?
Not Trunk Monkey?
http://www.trunkmonkeyad.com/
-
Of course DR Ginny is the only who is interested in having the disc but what the heck.
-
IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISCUSS LOST
REMEMBER TO MENTION
SPOILERS!!!!!!!!
I don't want to know what happens
-
I watched the last half hour of the LAW & ORDER rerun on TNT-HD. I remember when this episode first aired how I agreed with the jury even though the guilty parties were later proven innocent (well, they were thieves but not murderers).
-
May 2, 1960 here.
"Stuck on You" by Elvis Presley
-
Then I settled in for LOST.
What an amazing two hours. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. In despair and then overjoyed at things happening. Some sad goodbyes had to be said, and a very disturbing Jack backstory.
Wonderful end to a very good season.
LOST didn't even earn an Emmy nomination last year as Best Drama Series (it had won the year before). I predict it will earn a Best Drama Series nomination this year.
-
Methinks Mr. Shayne has been skipping pages of posts, otherwise he would most certainly know what Claus Ogerman CD we're all talking about. Very few copies left now.
-
Of course DR Ginny is the only who is interested in having the disc but what the heck.
Not necessarily. ;D
Has any other DR seen that Stanley Steemer commercial where the kid teaches his dog a new way to "walk"? ;)
This is my favorite new commercial:
There is a wonderful documentary premiering tonight on HBO called WIDE AWAKE, by Alan Berliner (one of my favorite documentary directors.)
The subject is insomnia, but his films are always filtered through his own experiences and are very entertaining. Appropriately enough, it is premiering at 1:30AM for the insomniacs, and then at 8PM tomorrow night. (I saw it at the festival we premiered our film...with Mr. Berlier himself!)
Are you sure it wasn't 8:00 PM tonight? I'm watching it now on HBO-W
22 tracks now (no worries Jack!)
I love it.
-
I have mixed feelings about the commercial.....but it did make me laugh....but not as much as....the Breyer's Double Churned when the man comes home and finds his wife betraying him with a Breyer's Bucket....
Watch the socks on the bucket.....if you can find the commercial....I can't find it on YOU TUBE.
More time for TV!!! See ya!
Mr. Shayne has run away!
You're right! Of course, our TV isn't working so I've lost track of what's going on!
-
Methinks Mr. Shayne has been skipping pages of posts, otherwise he would most certainly know what Claus Ogerman CD we're all talking about. Very few copies left now.
One is mine :)
I am listening to KMTZ, very relaxing.
yay, page 15 ~~~~~~~~DANCE~~~~~~~~~
Just finished watching the finale of "Lost" courtesy of the DVR. Very well done.
Of course, now my roommate and I are discussing the episode and trying to tie everything together. And speculating about next season. Lots of speculating. :)
Of course Michael. And if you don't like it - blame Jose
It is quite late and I am tired so I must toddle off.
I will ask for continued vibes for little Sarah and her family. She has just started a new round of chemo that is going to make her hair fall out, her throa swell (she may need a feeding tube) , stunt her growth and possibly cause permanent hearing loss....
and on that jolly little note...
Thanks---got it. I have never gotten an email from this particular address so it is now added. The spam trap has cut down on my spam at least 95%!
Vibes indeed Vixmom.
Something a bt sillier to end my day... something I have lifted from vixdad's blog (you know the players by theirother aliases!)
The Stevieling has been working on a project for her Spanish class, a slide show on Columbia, in which she has shown some encouraging signs of being a chip off the old block. She had downloaded a plethora of pictures of Columbia for use in this powerpoint project but, because her access to the internet is strictly controlled by netnanny software which blocked references to Columbia, Central America (presumably because of the death squads, drug cartels and so forth), she had inadvertantly concentrated on shots of places in Columbia.
Columbia, Maryland.
Which is a beautiful place as I can attest from personal knowledge, and from where I'm standing a much nicer prospect than Columbia, Central America. The death squads are much more discriminating in Maryland for example, and kidnappings are at an all-time low. Anyway. Showing a delightful lack of insight from such subliminal cues as the accompanying text being entirely in English she assembled a prodigious array of incorrect visual aids and would surely have gone down in the annals of that Spanish teacher's all-time memorable students were it not for the interferring of Mrs Stevie, who insisted that the whole thing be done over.
To get around the vexing problem of the references being blocked (and what we are talking about here is Google hits being blocked), Mrs Stevie decided against examining the firewall settings for a breathtakingly simple plan of giving the Stevieling her, Mrs Stevie's, sign-on credentials. Elegant. Simple. Completely counter productive, as we shall see, but that's neither here nor there. The women of the Steviemanse don't hold with educating themselves about their computer equipment and are adamantly proud of that.
The first product of this new largesse was that the Stevieling complained that all the sites in Columbia (Central America) were in Spanish. It was, of course, entirely unreasonable of her teacher, her parents and the entire nation of Columbia to expect her to actually read any Spanish in a project set for a Spanish class. The next was a suspicious period in which the Stevieling locked the computer room door while she "checked something". I put a stop to that in short order but of course the damage is done. What is the point in me providing software to watch the Stevieling while she is on the web if someone goes and gives her an adult account to play with? I pointed this out to Mrs Stevie who thought she might change her password.
If I would just show her how.
Next season - - - - which begins in February 2008!!!
ARGH!!!!
During the LOST commercial breaks, I flipped ahead on the cable guide to check out tomorrow night's shows, and for the first time in months, there is not one single network show on that I haven't seen or need to see again!
Therefore, I'll be DVDing it all day tomorrow. I'm lining up the films now. I want to watch the Charles Laughton LES MISERABLES. I have Tyrone Power in THE BLACK ROSE lined up. Doris Day and James Cagney in THE WEST POINT STORY may make an appearance.
And then there is always Vil Kilmer is MOSES!
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!
Hmm...
If you mean during the Beatles medley at the end of the program... Well... I'd just it was an unfortunate incident. A one-off.
But if you're talking about a "MAJOR" star, well... I don't think it was a crash and burn. Just someone who shouldn't be singing that song in the same key she sang it in 15 years ago. Especially when over-singing it.
I think.
That's the one - that performance will NOT have them standing in line in Vegas!
Well, I had to go back and listen and watch that performance again. It really wasn't that bad. And, heck, the voice has never really been that pretty, so... I just sensed she was trying to fill the cavern that is known as the Kodak Theater as if she did not have a mic. And she also sounded a little sick to me too.
I was wondering about that!
First TV series I remember was "I Led Three Lives".
-
I adored I Led Three Lives, and I learned never, ever to trust a Commie.
-
I did not care for that song on AI (that was one of the few moments i did see). Although i recorded it.
Since i knew who was going to win i just decided to watch LOST and then wait for the 2nd half to start here after IDOL.
Not too amused that AI went over by 10 minutes. Hopefully not too many people here got screwed by that (LOST was concluding after it). I saved the end in case my sis missed it (they caught up pretty nicely but they still did not end by 11pm).
-
Will we never get to page sixteen?
RE: LOST finale
SPOILERS
I thought the second hour was much more exciting than the first.
I am so sad about what happened with Charlie. Just as i was starting to really love him. :( Nice moment when Ben introduced alex to her mom. So happy that the Other guy (Tom) did not really kill sayid and jin (i was really thinking they were dead). I actually thought locke was going to kill jack. Totally crazy that naomi is not with penny. Totally totally crazy that jack and kate get off the island and that his flashback was really a flashforward. I guess i'm trying to figure out how this with "change everything" as they writers/producers put it. Is it the fact that we now know that they get off the island?
I loved jack telling kate he loved her. But i am so curious whose funeral jack went to in his flashforward. Any ideas?
Well at least it was an interesting finale. Can't believe how long we have to wait for the new season.
Oh and loved loved loved hurley driving the van to help Sawyer and the Castaways. Too funny.
-
DR Jennifer - Thanks for that link. Alas, there's just too many pages and posts to slog through. But what I did read was entertaining. However, there's one question that everyone was asking, but no one seemed to remember something that happened earlier in the show. -Check your PM. ;)
-
And, now, I sleep...
Goodnight.
-
I thought I had mentioned that the LOST recap show was being rerun tonight before the two hour LOST season finale, but maybe I didn't. I meant to.
I certainly mentioned it.
DVR ALERT!!!!
For anyone recording "Idol"....
It looks like they're going to 10:05 rather than 10:01. Possibly even 10:06 at this point.
When (this) one is recording the two-hour "Idol" and watching the two-hour "Lost", (this) one wasn't inclined to look here to read up on whether the first one is ending on time.
It figures. The show has been bloated beyond all reason for five months -- I should have known they couldn't do a two-hour show in under 130 minutes.
