TOD: 1st JS film I remember: Harvey
Favorites: The Philadelphia Story
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
It's a Wonderful Life
Shenandoah
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
The Greatest Show On Earth

Jimmy Stewart is probably my favorite actor of all-time. I know some of these aren't his best films, like the Hitchcock films are, but just ones I'm fond of.

A friend and I had a party to celebrate JS's 80th birthday. We actually put 80 candles on the cake and lit them and took a picture of it to send to him along with a birthday card. That was a mistake---the heat of so many lit candles made them all melt and we had to peel a big sheet of wax off the top of the cake before we could eat it! (Dont try this at home...)

VERY GLAD to see that DR Danise is home safe & sound, with the doggies.

DR Danise, eveyone experiences grief differently.  Expect that you will have good times and bad as you move forward.  Now that the "busy-ness" of the past few weeks settles down, the realities will start to settle in.  Go with it, and remember the promises of new beginnings that have arisen, too.  Treasure your memories.  And know that we are here to support you, in whatever ways we can.   :)

Good morning!  I guess I missed that one...or I could say the same to you! :)  PLUS, last night I was simply so exhausted that I was in bed by shortly after 8:00 PM...

Must walk the dog, do a dry cleaning errand, and then off to NJ for some serious unpacking activity.

But I just love a 3-day expanse of POSSIBILITY!  And my husband is off singing in Paris, so the days are truly mine!

Good luck with unpacking and with NJ!

I think I can get another hour's sleep before I have to get up for good. My big love is curled up next to me with his head on the keyboard and paw on the trackpad, fast asleep and snoring. So cute! But hard to type when he does this!

Have a good day!

I bit of explanation about my absence last night:

I fell asleep! I knew my eyes were getting heavy so I turned off what I was watching and eased back in my recliner. The next thing I knew,l it was 11:30, and I was so tired, I just put myself to bed and th next thing I knew it was 7 a.m. That hasn't happened in a long time. I guess I had a lot of sleep to catch up.

Anyway, last night's viewing:

I began with the last episode in the PLANET EARTH Blu-ray set: "Ocean Deep." The underwater photography wasn't always as startling as in earlier chapters, but that's mainly due to where the photography was done - miles below the surface where there was literally no light. Amazing creatures there.

I'm a little sad the series is over. What a monumentally entertaining assortment of documentaries. High recommended!

Next, I continued watching Droopy cartoons. I did about six more of them before their sameness began to get predictable. The quality of the transfers continued to get better the deeper into the set I watched.

Good morning, all!  I have a schlep down to Toyland for several hours and then a coffee break with former DR Noel. Beyond that, I have very little to do this weekend; I had an email this morning with a job offer I'm thinking of accepting but my priority on Tuesday is my first day of another round of Jury Duty (Oy!).

Then, off the to-watch shelf, I pulled EVIL UNDER THE SUN. No, not the marvelously entertaining Peter Ustinov version with Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg, Roddy McDowall, James Mason, and others.

No, this was the BBC "official" version with David Suchet. It looked wonderful despite ita 4:3 dimensions and mono sound, and while the story is of course the same of the 1982 film adapted from the Christie book, the characters are truer to the original story so the Brewster character was a woman and not Roddy McDowall (although he played it like Tallulah Bankhead so it's hard to tell what sex he was trying to represent). The James Mason character was also originally a woman. And there was heroin smuggling in the story which was not at all in the 1982 film.

Still, the denouement was the same, same guilty party (parties) and same method of murder.

I ended my evening with a film musical I haven't watched in a long, long time: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. I got a little more than halfway through before sleep overtook me.

This film BADLY needs a new transfer. It looked grainy and the color looked very dated. Still, a very entertaining film. I'll finish it up when I go down and fix lunch.

I saw THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH as a little kid with my parents. A lot of it didn't make sense to me at the time, but I know it scared me because the little boy was in danger.

BELL BOOK AND CANDLE

This film would be perfect if someone else were doing Kim Novak's role!  The character actors are wonderful and then there's poor Kim: every throwaway line gets emphasis and every important line gets thrown away. I can't believe she's as good as she is in VERTIGO.

As for the Topic of the Day...

"Rope"
"The Shop Around the Corner"
"Mr. Smith Goes To Washington"

And, I think I've said it before on here, but I've really gotten "It's a Wonderful Life".  Maybe I've just never been in the proper frame of mind to watch it, but I've always found the pacing just a tad too slow and the running time just a tad too long.  Great performances, great story, but still... :-\

We will go up today and rescue the lads from their parents, and hope the parents can get some work done.

Getting work on on the weekends is a problem because Magic Mommy can get no work done if she has to watch a kid; however, it is too much to ask that she watch both kids, so son-in-law has a bit of a problem getting much done either.

I pick Woody up at 1:30 and off we go for an afternoon of watching Shrek III, going to Border's, watching arcade race-car machines devour quarters (some of these amusements are now $1.00 a turn!) and debating which CDs to play.  (They are adapting to GrandPa's "no Game Boys Allowed on car trips" rule.)

Dinner has not yet been decided.

Power of the internet department:  someone posted to the Guestbook of my website last night, which is nothing that unusual, except this person posted to tell me that my wonderful composition and theory teacher from college, Bruce Reich, had passed away.  I was stunned.  Bruce wasn't much older than I--he was probably still in his late 20s when I was in college (I started, due to testing and college level courses in high school, as a junior at age 17).  He evidently kept his cancer secret, and returned to teach at UCLA for the last year or so before his death.   He was a very funny, unbelievably intelligent guy, to wit:

My first day of classes with him, he came up and quietly said (with a twinkle in his eye), "What's a Jew doing taking music classes at the University of Utah?"  To which I responded without missing a beat, "What's a Jew doing teaching music classes at the University of Utah?"  I later earned his mock enmity after he had spent a semester trying to scare us with how we were going to "define" the Tristan chord once we saw it.  He handed it out the last week of class, and of course I blurted right out with whatever definition it was (I want to say French augmented 6th with some flatted element, but I can't recall right now--Jose? Elmore?).  Bruce just glared at me.  It was hilarious.

BTW, it seems I'm not the only one who was going crazy trying to figure out who the actor on On the Lot was--there was a thread about him on IMDb.  It's Patrick Kerr, who played smitten-with-Roz Noel Shempsky on "Frasier."  I knew I recognized him from somewhere!

Speaking of death, I got a call from the writer of this musical reading I'm doing next week - it seems the director dropped dead yesterday.  But, we're going ahead, and there's a new director, and it's my old pal Gene Castle, who choreographed a video I directed in the early 90s - very nice fellow.  Apparently, he said yes when he heard I was involved.  In case you don't know Mr. Castle, he was a fantastic B'way dancer all through the 60s - in Gypsy, George M, and on TV as one of the Hullabaloo dancers.

It was a mixed bag.  The orchestra was actually better than I expected (only a few brass clams, strings and woodwinds exceptional).  The soprano was quite good, the baritone less so.  I did manage a couple of cute quips in my review, notably because they did a bizarre co-ed version of "Everything's Coming Up Roses," and I said I expected Mama Rose to blurt, "Sing out, Louis!"  :)  The tempi were quite "relaxed" (shall we say), which was annoying after a while.  But all in all I'd give it a B+.

Art Linkletter

Art Linkletter, now 94, is a remarkable humanitarian and entertainer. He hosted two of the biggest success stories in history. ''House Party,'' ran on CBS -- radio and then television -- for a quarter of a century. ''People are Funny'' entertained millions through both media for 19 years. He has written a seemingly endless array of books, the most famous of which was probably ''Kids Say the Darndest Things.''

Art and his wife of many years, Lois, became good friends with Walt and Lilly over the course of time, and his memories of Walt are both acute and insightful. Following are excerpts from a lengthy interview with Art about Walt, focusing in on his comments about Disneyland (for which he hosted the opening day television show).

Q: When did you first meet Walt?

Art: When I was a young local radio announcer, he came up to introduce a new picture. I was doing a show called ''The Gump Gallery of Celebrities: Who is in San Francisco Tonight?'' And he was there to do ''Fantasia.'' And so I got to the place where the seats were. There was going to be the press conference. And nobody was there but me, I was always early. And there was a man adjusting the chairs. And I said, ''When do you think Walt Disney is going to arrive?'' And he says, ''I’m Walt Disney.'' ''Well,'' I said, ''What are you doing rearranging and arranging the chairs?'' And he says, ''I like to see things the way I want them to be.'' So that was my very first time I ever set eyes on Walt. And it was a wonderful insight into his character. And that is that he was not a big shot in his own eyes. He did the job that needed to be done, whether anybody was there or not.

Q: And when did your friendship begin?

Art: I remember that my wife and I taking one of our early European holidays and discovered to our delight that onboard the ship, Lil and Walt Disney were on their way to Denmark. And of course we became acquainted, being in show business . . . and we had a wonderful time together talking about show business and one thing and another. And then when we got to Denmark, we decided we’d meet together at the Tivoli Gardens, which is perhaps one of the oldest and most famous of all the playground resorts areas in this heart of the town. And when we went through the Tivoli Gardens, I had my first look at Walt Disney’s childlike delight in the enjoyment of families and in the cleanliness of affairs and the orderliness of everything and he was making notes all the time, about the lights, the chairs, and the seats, and the food. And I said, ''What are you doing?'' And he says, ''I’m just making notes about something that I’ve always dreamed about and that is someday, having a great, great center playground for the children and the families of America.'' And I didn’t think much of that but we went on and years later, I found myself introducing Disneyland, on the Air.

Q: When did you first visit the Disneyland location?

Art: One day Walt called me up and he said, ''Art would you like to take a ride down to Orange County and see where Disneyland is going to be?'' Says,''You know, it’s a deep secret. You can’t tell anybody anything you see or anything you hear, because Stanford Research has been deciding where the next place for big growth in Southern California will center where there’s plenty of land.'' So I said, ''Sure.'' Because I loved adventure and Walt was a good friend and we liked to talk and so we rode down together and I couldn’t believe my eyes. We were going through little villages I’d never heard of because L.A. Basin is filled with about 67 tiny communities, which have all grown into cities now. But we were down there in orange groves and dirt roads and he said, ''This is the place.'' And I’ve never been one to be a discouragement guy and so I didn’t tell him what I thought, which was ''You’re out of your mind. This is 45 minutes from where people live, really in numbers and besides, there’s nothing here!'' And I just said, ''Well, Walt, good luck.'' And when I told him about that later after it had been a big success, he said to me, ''I didn’t think you were as enthusiastic as I had ordinarily seen you but you didn’t have the vision of what I had in my mind when I looked at those orange groves and saw Matterhorn and saw the beautiful big buildings and things we were going to build.''

Q: How did it come to pass that you were the master of ceremonies for this historic television program?

Art: I was at a birthday party at Walt’s house one night, and he said, ''Art,'' he said, ''You know that I’ve been building Disneyland now for the last year or so and I’m getting ready to open it in another month or two.'' He says, ''And I wonder if you’d consider being one of the hosts. You and me and we’ll pick a couple of your friends and the four of us ought to be able to cover Disneyland. There’ll be no rehearsals, because it’ll be done once only and we’ll have about 12 or 14 or 18 cameras for ABC.'' And I said to him, ''Well, Ronald Reagan and Bob Cummings are two very dear friends of mine and they’re good talkers and they’re a lot of fun.'' And so we got a hold of them and they agreed to do it.

But Walt came down to the fact that I was going to be more or less in charge of the TV end of it because of my experience. And he said, ''What about your payment?'' he said, ''You know Art,'' he says, ''I’ve spent all my family’s money and my insurance money and I’ve borrowed money from ABC and we’ve had cost overruns and strikes and problems,'' and he says, ''I don’t think I can afford to pay you what you’re worth.'' And I said, ''Well how about scale? That’s $210.'' He was kind of surprised, being used to dealing with other Hollywood types of a different type. He said, ''Really? You’d do that?'' And I said, ''Of course, this is a community affair, this is a national affair, this is a moment of great history and I’d like to be a part of it. And besides,'' I said, ''I’d like to have a little favor from you.'' He said, ''Well yes, what?'' And I said, ''You’re going to have concessions, you’re going to concede the foods, the parking, and you’re going to run the main entertainment. And you’re going to have film and cameras for sale and I have a company, a business which sells film development and cameras in Los Angeles. Royal Tone, it’s called. And I’d like to have the concession for the sale of all the film and camera and pay you your concession fee.'' And I had it for 10 years and so I estimate that my two hours of work, opening Disneyland, was worth to me at the end of ten years, probably three million dollars. That’s a pretty good fee for two hours.

Q: Let’s jump ahead to the opening day of Disneyland.

Art: Disneyland was... a great mishmash of last minute things that hadn’t been done. The cement wasn’t hardened in some places. Piles of lumber were here and there. Trees that had died had been repainted green, instead of watered. And all the things that went on when a big World’s Fair was opening. And Walt Disney was moving into all this confusion like a general directing an army, as the tourists began to arrive. He had asked me to MC the opening and asked me to pick a couple of my friends to work with him because the four of us would be divided in the various venues. And I asked my dear friend, Ronald Reagan and Bob Cummings, the comic actor that I’d traveled with all over the world, to be with me and Walt. And so there we were and I was standing on the platform of the Disney train which had originally been running around Disney’s house out in the neighborhood, when he had it as a hobby. And then the show opened and history was made although the first reviews were not too kind because, it was a hot day, there was a certain amount of disorganization. Disorganized effort I mean. And I was a little worried myself because, one time I went over to one of the places where I was supposed to pick up a microphone and I couldn’t find it and it was going to be transferred to me at any second and I couldn’t find my microphone. I found it under a pile of lumber, just in time to start broadcasting my end of that broadcast. It was a very exciting day.

Q: How did Walt react to the chaos?

Art: He didn’t seem to be bothered by it. He was alert to it and he was always trying to get things fixed, and I remember we had to move from place to place while the other ones were covering us -- either Ronnie Reagan or Bob Cummings was talking and we’d be moving. And Walt told me later he tried to go down an alley to go to his next spot, over at Tomorrowland and there was a newly hired guard there. And he said, ''You can’t go through here.'' And Walt stopped and he laughed and says, ''Do you know who I am? I’m Walt Disney.'' He says, ''Mr. Disney, I know who you are, but I’m sorry I have orders. You can’t go through here, nobody can go through here they told me.'' And Walt said to him, ''Either you let me through here or I’m going to hit you right in the face and walk over your body.'' And the fellow moved over and Walt went on his way. So he took things in stride as I’ve seen him later on, at other times. But he always had a feeling that things were going to work right.

A triumvirate of three-initialed people are on right now--TCB, FJL, and JMK.  I believe this makes us pre-qualified to write pretentious Broadway scores.  ;)

I could change my screen name to my initials (GPD) and there'd be a quartet quorum on the forum.

My very sweet kids used their tax refunds to buy a dishwasher for me, which was to be installed while I was on a butterfly walk at the arboretum. I arrived home just as they were delivering it. Unfortunately, the installers wouldn't install it because whoever did the electrical work initially way back when a dishwasher was first installed did shoddy work. They said the way it was wired it is amazing we didn't have a fire.

Having had shoddy work in the past, we are now awaiting an electrician to do the electrical work correctly.

DR Elmore - we enjoyed the performances (and voices) of Meg Bussert and Richard Muenz in "Camelot".  Did they just go on to tour with Harris and then disappear?

Harris's leading lady here was Marina Pryor who did not enjoy the experience of working with him at all!

Hi all.

I slept in a little bit.  The dogs (well Shenna) wanted to go to the dog park and how could I say no?

We were there about an hour and half then returned home and I watched some things I had TIVO'ed.  Then I went in and took a nap.

That's about all I did today.

We had something funny happen yesterday. My mother has been telling me for a few weeks that the bridal shower at her house was on Saturday, so I didn't bother to read the invitation and made arrangements to be here so we could get everything ready for Saturday morning.

Last night my brother called and asked if we actually read the invitation...the shower is on Sunday, not Saturday.   LOL, at least we found out before we had the coffee made and punch made and were all dressed and waiting for guests

DR Elmore - we enjoyed the performances (and voices) of Meg Bussert and Richard Muenz in "Camelot".  Did they just go on to tour with Harris and then disappear?

Miss Meg Bussert was recently seen here:

George's White Sandals - 4/16/2007

The George White's Scandals - the peppy revue that regularly lit up Broadway in the '20s and '30s - will be brought back to life on April 16, 2007 (show at 6:30PM; buffet at 5:45PM) at the German Lutheran Church of St. Paul, located at 315 West 22nd Street.

Presented by Bandwagon, the event will be hosted by Arlene Dahl and star MEG BUSSERT       , Penny Fuller, Helen Gallagher, Joel Higgins, Sarah Rice, Jane Summerhays, Martin Vidnovic and Julie Wilson, with David Auxier, Heather Barr, Steve Cancel, Shannon Darin, Jason Esposito, Natalie Ferraro, Maurice Jackson, Adrian Li Donni, Megan Loomis, Suzanne Scott, Charly Seamon, Marian Steiner and Shorey Walker.

With musical staging by Auxier, Walker and Bjarne Buchtrup, the evening will feature twenty years of great show tunes, from 1919 through 1939. The George White's Scandals, like the famed Ziegfeld Follies and even racier Earl Carroll Vanities, was a long-lived revue that featured comedy sketches, lavish scenery and costumes, great songs (by composers such as the Gershwins and DeSylva, Brown and Henderson), and, of course, bevies of beautiful girls. The event will feature arrangements and musical direction by Mark York and will be produced and directed by Jerry Bell.

Something sort of interesting happened to me today. I went to a huge garage sale near the local indoor pool.  Well most people had junk. But one table had all brand new scrapbook stuff for $1 each.  The sort of interesting part is that this couple lives only 2 doors down from me.

Also something cute happened after the garage sale.  I was watching my 20 month old niece while my sister was planting some flowers.  This kid is a handful. Anyhow she was going to a birthday party tonight. And i sang the verse "happy birthday to you". And wanted to hear what she sang back. Well it was one of the funniest versions of happy birthday i'd ever heard.  She sang "ha-pp-ay part-ay you you" (and she went on like that). It was so funny.

DR Elmore - we enjoyed the performances (and voices) of Meg Bussert and Richard Muenz in "Camelot".  Did they just go on to tour with Harris and then disappear?

Harris's leading lady here was Marina Pryor who did not enjoy the experience of working with him at all!

Richard Muenz is around; I worked with him last on the complete recording of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA.  He's a handsome and very funny fellow.  I have this vague memory that I've seen him since 1998, but he stays busy.

Meg has one of the loveliest sopranos around.  She was Judy Kaye's standby on the show about Florence Foster Jenkins. but I haven't seen her in years.  I believe she and her family moved out of town - I ran into her on a 104 bus one day and we caught up - and I have a memory that she told me she was teaching.  I got to know her in 1981 or so when she was Marianne in a production of NEW MOON with John Reardon, Alix Korey, Debbie Gravitte and a bunch of wonderful singers.  Meg was singing high C's galore.

I'm currently watching MUSIC AND LYRICS; my friend Adam Grupper plays Drew Barrymore's brother-in-law.  I'm laughing at the ageing boy bands and their fans, I love the Britney Spears clone and slight acquaintance Scott porter and Matthew Morrison are in it!

I would love someone to record the WHOLE score of Camelot (as in the productions of Elmore's close and personal friend who conducts things. LOL)

I actually suggested to the FAT conductor of Limitless Ego and Limited Talent that he should do it for EMI with Sarah Brightman as Guinevere, since she was an EMI artist, and Russell Crowe as Arthur, but it was not to happen.  All of the music that was cut in Toronto for The Quest sits in cartons in archive at Tams-Witmark, I understand.

Now for the bad/puzzling news...

I just got back from the 7:00 showing of "Private Property ("Nue propriété).  When I left the theatre, I figured it had to be at least 9:30... It was only 8:40... :-\

The cast was headed by the always amazing Isabelle Huppert, and she shared most of the screen time with real life twins (and rather cute too!) Jérémie and Yannick Renier playing her twin sons.  This happened.  Then that happened.  Then we watched them fight.  Then we watched them watch TV.  It was one of those very measured and "simple" movies where we observe people's lives.  Joachim Lafosse was the director, and for what it was, it was good.  Alas, I found most of it a bit tedious, drawn out, and a little too artsy (plain) for it's own good.

When the movie finished, I heard many people asking their companions, "What was that?"  I was asking the same thing, just to myself, in my head.  Once I returned to street level - the cinemas at Lincoln Square are underground - I went back to the display ad for the movie which featured the somewhat glowing NY Times review.  I just had to read it to see if there was anything I had missed.  Well... Other people who had just seen the movie were doing the same thing.

There is now great music in our house.  DH Richard received his packet of sheet music and a rehearsal CD for the Miami University Men's Glee Club 100th Anniversary Concert in which he will sing on June 16.  He's playing the CD on his computer and singing the bass part.

And now for the wonderful news...

I started off my movie going day with "Once"...

SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

What a beautiful movie. A somewhat simple story: boy meets girl.  But they both have music in common. The beauty of music.  The power of music.  The Love of music. And even the pain of music.

And the music!  The movie is a "musical", but all the songs are sung - and played(!) - by the two leads, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová (who happen to be real-life singer-songwriters). The movie is set in Ireland, but the music is not Irish.  It's definitely pop, in a moody sort of sense.  Very hard to define, describe, but I loved it.  And found myself moved to tears a couple of times throughout the movie.

The movie takes place over the span of just over a week or so.  The guy meets the girl and they turn out to complement each other musically.  Their first "love scene" stunned me - in a good way: he starts playing one of his songs on the guitar and singing, then she joins in on the piano and harmony. Passionate and intense.  And, again, beautiful.

All the songs are sung completely through, and they are sung by the characters.  No fancy editing, no fancy special effects.  Just the actors, their voices and the songs. -Needless to say, I went out right after the movie and bought the soundtrack.

I really do recommend this movie.  I will admit that the music may not be to everyone's liking, but it really does tell the story.  And I would share more of the story, but I don't want to give away anything either.  However, the description over at the IMDB provides a good summary:

A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story.

So, if "Once" happens to make it to your city.. Go!

I do have one "warning"... The Irish accents are pretty thick, and at first almost unintelligible - to my ears at least.  However, things do become much "clearer" after the opening minutes of the movie.  *And the female lead is actually a Czech actress who is speaking English with a hint of an Irish brogue.

DR JoseSPiano -

Perhaps YOU go see Xanadu, and we meet afterward for dinner?

What time will you need to leave the city?  I don't want you getting stuck in traffic.  Or would you be training in?

I do have one "warning"... Maybe we'll wait for the DVD and use the closed-captioning.  DH Richard and I have become very dependent on that, even for English-language films.

Mr Jérémie Rénier is from Belgium: I have not seen his twin in movies yet! Besides being good looking (He's a brunette who likes his hair blond! Thought you'd like to know ;) J.R. (!) is quite talented as an actor.
I am a fan.
He reminds me of Gavin Creel....

Next, I watched THE BLACK ROSE. It's an entertaining (but too long) adventure film with the gorgeous Tyrone Power (who is about 15 years too old for the part). The Technicolor on the transfer varies in quality. Much of it is deeply saturated and terrific, but there are a couple of places where it's pale and other spots where the color looks plugged up and smeared.

I'd probably have been more enthusiastic about the film were it not saddled with the completely untalented and uncharismatic Cecile Aubrey. Was she another of Zanuck's "proteges"?

Xanadu - Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu
Xanadu - Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu

Xanadu your neon lights will shine
For you Xanadu

The love, the echoes of long ago
You needed the world to know, they are in Xanadu

The dream that came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears
It came to Xanadu

A million lights are dancing and there you are
A shooting star, an everlasting world and you're
Here with me eternally

Xanadu - Xanadu (now we are here)
In Xanadu

Now that I'm here, now that you're near in Xanadu

Allez venez! Milord
Vous asseoir à ma table
Il fait si froid dehors
Ici, c'est confortable
Laissez-vous faire, Milord
Et prenez bien vos aises
Vos peines sur mon cœur
Et vos pieds sur une chaise
Je vous connais, Milord
Vous ne m'avez jamais vue

Piaf's "Milord" was a #1 hit in Sydney in 1961.
An English version by Teresa Brewer and one later by Bobby Darin could still not make it successful in the USA.

An English version by local singer Gaynor Bunning was a top 3 hit in Melbourne Oz in 1961.

You need to know all that.

Monnot had two successful pop hits here in 1961.  Diana Trask had a hit record with "Our Language Of Love".

I remember all this - but not where I put my glasses.

Oh good heavens what an evening.  The house next door to my parents' at the lake is a rental. The family reunion that always happens there on Memorial Day is usually no problem at all.  Well... They have been very noisy at night..ok, loud voices, we can ignore that.  But tonight, they started shooting off big fireworks between the house and the garage and within 50-75 feet of our house, starting well after 10:30 PM and on a very windy night.

Now we have 2-80 year olds and a very pregnant woman who was exhausted, not feeling well and trying to sleep.

So first I stuck my head outside and said that it was very dangerous to be shooting the fireworks off where they were and that it was illegal. They got really mouthy about it and pretended like they were going to quit, but my DN Adam and I knew they weren't so we each grabbed a beer and sat in our back yard.  Then they really got nasty going off about how we were spoiling their memorial day and that the wind was taking them over the road toward a field anyway.  (It wasn't).

I said something about having someone who is sick and trying to sleep and Ad said something about it being a residential neighborhood and how they could enjoy their weekend without being noisy.

So, I suggested we just shut up and listen, which we did.  The grandparents of this crew are my former middle school principal and the home ec teacher he married after he divorced his wife.  So she's out there hugging this guy, telling him that she'll bail him out of jail and telling a group of little kids that if the cops come they should all tell the same story.

Sheesh!  Anyway, they were loud for a little while longer, blasting music about 11:15-11:30 pm but now it's quiet.

The internet was really slow earlier and this is an unsecured network, so I figured they were using it. So I unplugged the router for awhile. It's really fast again. I was tired....

I'm going to try to get some sleep soon.  I need to help mom with the shower and then I'm heading back to Sioux City.  So, it will be a long day. Turns out the shower is at 11:30 AM instead of 11:00 AM, boy did we screw the time up on this one

You need to shower your mother in Screw City?

Hmmm... I think I'm missing something! ;)

One of the biggest problems with the fireworks is that they were falling very near if not on our guest house and garage.  We had a fire out there due to a cigarette someone threw out a car window a couple years ago. Luckily it only charred the outside of the structure a little. And my brother's house had a major house fire, so we are quite cautious when it comes to fire

IT's a bridal shower.  Afraid I don't have much of a sense of humor right now.

Think I'll sign off and go unplug the router again.

Oh, I'm sorry! I knew about the shower because I read about it earlier! I should keep to myself instead of trying to be funny! But then, by now, I guess you know how insane I am!

NOT fair DR Jose to post a pic of Jérémie Rénier with huge sunglasses: his face has no expression!

Blonds ARE more fun... they say!

Where is tout le monde?

Bonne semaine à tous!
