Well, you've read the notes, you know that soon the cock or the clock will be crowing and now it is time for you to post until the crowing cows come home - they don't know from crowing cocks or busy beavers, frankly.

A wonderful birthday full of good things is wished for Baxter the Clown.

My Saturday DVD viewing (on my HD DVD player) is finally done:
I watched "Gypsy". Incroyable The color has never looked as spectacular. Sharp, focused, dazzling to the eyes and ears. Wonderful.
Then I watched "Oh! What A Lovely War! -- and this film looks as if it were made last month -- the damned thing is PERFECT in every visual/aural detail. And the crispness -- the detail, the depth, the color saturation -- ALL were Magnifique
The final scene has always been superb, but today I was sobbing....the young soldier, walking past the ladies in white sitting on the grass, and then lying down in a thick patch of rich, green grass, luxuriating in it along with his buddies who seemed to be enjoying a nice day in the outdoors...and then to have the camera move back to the ladies standing up and walking toward them and...
-- SPOILER --
...walking past white crosses where the men had been, and on through a massive cemetery complex with thousands of white crosses, was nearly too much to take. It didn't help to have the Jerome Kern "They Won't Believe Me" being sung, with special lyrics, by that male choir. That's proably the most stunning finale I've seen in a movie of any kind.
To lighten my heart, I put "Hello, Dolly!" on. This was a pure-tee pleasure to watch on a regular DVD player. On the Toshiba HD DVD player, the movie took on a depth and a color palette I could NEVER have imagined. Colors "pop" in every scene. "The Waiter's Galop" remains one of the most incredible tour-de-force dance numbers ever filmed, but the spectacular reds of the waiters' jackets have never before been so deep, sharp and perfectly focused. No color bleeds of any kind...no artifacts...no fuzziness. This movie is a freaking miracle to watch!
I turned to black-and-white, watching "To Kill A Mockingbird" (the most recent incarnation with anamorphic widescreen). I love this movie more than anything, but I was very surprised to see a graininess that I don't think should have been there. The previous non-anamorphic TKAM has a better "picture" quality, IMO.
I ended the evening with the unbelievably glorious "The Searchers." A color masterpiece, this standard DVD looks amazing on an HD-DVD player. I understand its Blu-Ray counterpart is stunning, and I have to say what I saw was so amazing that I don't believe I'll need to have a high-def version of the movie.
I didn't get anything else done. Somehow, though, the day doesn't seem to have been "wasted."

Last night, my friend Margo and I went to the Seattle Storm women's basketball game (my niece, who actually has the tickets wasn't feeling well, so she didn't go) They won! 90-76!! AND afterwards, Margo and I got to go to a question/ answer/ autograph session with two Storm players, Lauren Jackson and Tanisha Wright. It was a lot of fun! About three years ago, I took a picture of four Storm players. I had gotten two autographs before and last night, I got Lauren's, for a third autograph. Now I only need one more and it'll be complete. :)
-
I'll post just a couple pictures. This is one from the game. I just think it's a neat action picture...if I do say so myself. ;)

Here's another action shot...Lauren in motion:

Well, I must (finally) get to bed, too. Today at noon, we have rehearsal...and it'll be a long one. :-\ We moved into the space on Friday and there is a LOT more room on the real set than where any place that we've rehearsed.
I will definitly be home LONG before the Tony Awards® start!! AND I've confirmed that my new DVR has been set to record it AND the show after that (local news). I think I'm all set. :D

West Coast audience can actually watch the first hour as it being streamed on line before CBS starts it broadcast, The design awards, book, score and orchestrations are presented on the Tony website
http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/index.html
From the website
at approximately 7:15 p.m., you can take advantage of a TonyAwards.com exclusive. Our site is the only place to view a live video webcast of those 2007 Tony Awards that are presented before the telecast begins, in a segment of the ceremony presented by Hilton Hotels. You can see the awards, the acceptance speeches, and everything else that happens on stage--just as if you were sitting in the Radio City auditorium.
Prior to that they have red carpet feeds.

Good morning, all! I have yet to determine which is more important: THE SOPRANOS finale or the Tonys. The only two awards I would not like to see happen are two for GREY GARDENS: best actress and orchestrations, since I've worked with the best actress who was a major non-team-playing pain and the nominated orchestrator was, I believe, a prime mover in getting me dumped from a 1998 job I'd been hired to do in London. My bags may have been packed for the trip but the scumbag ended up in London with the job.
Today, I have a trek to Toyland, then a dance recital with my beloved goddaughter Charlotte who graduates this week, goes to Barcelona on vacation, has a busy summer hither and yon, and then abandons me for (sob!) college. The trauma is killing me.
The latest news is that we may not have lost the office lease but this on-ff-on-off-on yo-yo effect is driving me mad and it's not a long drive, so keep those vibes coming!
-
Happy birthday to Baxter the Clown

More lease vibes to DR ELMORE.

I have a Sunday Paper, so everyone can relax....well everyone except that dumb hotel.
-
Morning all.
Sorry I was E & T yesterday. I just spent the day relaxing. I did some shopping and took my time doing so I got home rather late--about five o'clock.
I bought myself a pork roast and a sweet potato to make for today--the first real meal I've made since Mom passed. I thought it might do me some good to have and make a good home made meal.
I've been living off of cereal, yogurt, popcorn and fast food for the past two weeks. Enough of that.
I've already been up, dressed and have a load of laundry in the washer. I also planted some strawberrys, herbs and tomato's in some cute little kit like things I bought at Walmart yesterday that were only $2.50 each. I thought they would give me something to watch grow.
I also bought a new self watering pot for my Michael Crawford rose. I thought it was dead but when I cut some of the lower branches off of it, they didn't snap like they would if they were dead. They also didn't have the dry, dead look inside them that the top branches did.
I cut everything I thought looked bad until I found what looked like it could live.
I have the hope that with the new pot (which will self water the plant as it needs water), new soil and rose fertilizer, I might be able to bring it back from the brink. One can but try. :)
-
And with that, I'm off to the dog park. Sheena is quite loudly reminding me that is time. ;) Can't have the dogs upset, now can we???

DR Danise, congratulations! You are a survivor, and I'm happy to see the healing has begun. You'll be surprised by the oddest little somethingthat will provoke unhappiness and grief out of nowhere. Accept it when it comes and continue to heal and grow. In four months I've gone from weeping every other day to around once a week, if it's a bad week. City Opera revs back up in late September so if you might be feeling in a New York State of Mind about then, you know you've got a few good friends here!
-
Is this indeed the last year the Tony Awards Show will be broadcast on network television?
Not necessarily. The ratings were up last year, and tonight's ratings will tell a big tale.
Of course, it has the misfortune to be airing opposite the series finale of THE SOPRANOS, and that can't help it.
We'll see.
-
Good morning!
I slept a little later than usual this morning, but since I went to bed later than usual (2 a.m.), the later hour didn't produce any more sleep. Alas.
A tiny bit cooler today which is helpful.

In answer to your comment of last night, DR derBrucer, about SWEET MOVIE and the comments on the IMDB:
I use the IMDB only as a tool to research credits or facts about films or personalities connected to films. I never, NEVER read the "reviews" there.
Besides, the drinking of urine was one of the lesser atrocities committed in SWEET MOVIE and one that I knew was going to happen beforehand.
-
This afternoon will be more relaxing without having SWEET MOVIE hanging over my head. I'll finish out THE CLOSER Season 2 box (the two part season finale) and then I believe BRIDGE TO TERIBITHIA will come next.
A Disney movie will seem such a pleasurable vacation after yesterday's movie horrors.
-
I know just what you're feeling, DR Ron, in rewatching all these films with the upconversion capabilities of your new player. I think you'll find THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS will also pop right off the screen.
You'll also enjoy the added depth the upconversion will bring to action/advanture titles like RIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and STAR WARS.
-
And, of course, once you start rewatching the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, we won't hear the end of it!
-
More crossed fingers and positive thoughts to DR Elmore re the leasing decisions.
-
Page Three Minerva McGonagall and the Sorting Hat Dance!!!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up...
And I've already had my blueberry-vanilla-protein smoothie - my "bowl of oatmeal" stand-in for this morning, and I've already made a quick run to the store for some groceries. And in a little while I'll get my brief workout in, and then get ready to head to the theatre for me matinee. :)
-
And as for The Tonys...
There's a slight chance I may end up going tonight. A friend just called, and he may have to give up his ticket since he woke up today not feeling too well. Ah, well. He's going to take it easy today, and then check back in with me later. So, we'll see what happens. If it does, great - my tux is ready to go! If not, I know I'll still have a good time watching it on TV. -Which is sort of what I'd prefer to do anyway this year. Although I will miss the video presentations during the commercial breaks.
-
And as for The Tonys (Part Deux)...
This must be "party weekend". I have two friends who are having non-Tony-related parties tonight. And I guess I should make an appearance at at least one of them. However, they know I'll probably be watching the ceremony at home, but since both parties aren't due to start until 9:00, I may head on out after the broadcast, the East Coast (Live) Broadcast.
So, if I happen to miss the West Coast (Tape Delayed) Broadcast... Bitch-Slap me why dontcha!
-
And speaking of The Tonys (Part Tres)...
I had forgotten that even though tonight is the night that Broadway honors itself, that there are still show running tonight: Avenue Q, Rent, Mamma Mia!, etc.
I guess the show does have to go on. ;)
*Although, I'm wondering how many extra understudy inserts will be in Playbills tonight. ???
-
And as for The Tonys... (Part Four)
As for my predictions... Well, I'm just really curious how the races for Best Lead Actress in a Musical, Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Best Score of a Musical, and Best Book of a Musical are gonna turn out. They really all seem a bit close to call right now. And even the pundits can't seem to come the same conclusions as their fellow pundits.
*And I'm wondering under what "theme" they will be presenting Fantasia singing from The Color Purple especially after the brou-haha of Legally Blonde and LoveMusik not getting to perform.
-

Okay, plans change. I'm sitting here transcribing newspaper articles and my pencilled notes from newspapers of 1903-1906 and 1912-1914 so I will not head down to Toyland this morning, I may send an email to the Chairman of the Board for the Institute inquiring on the lease. Our rental agent believes that if the lease is signed by tomorrow evening we'll beat out the other potential tenant who was sent a lease on Friday evening. Oy! It's ridiculous.
Around 1:30, I'll head off to Charlotte's recital. I have a card for her. and I need to write a check to include with it.
-
I'm up, I'm up. More Tony predictions please. Am amused and nauseated to see they're giving book and score on the pre-broadcast portion - as if those were throwaway categories - the Tony Award broadcasts, which used to have some dignity in the early days, have lost all semblance of class and they should be put out to pasture as a network event.
-
Am enjoying Mr. Pulliam's ravings, especially about the colors - while The Searchers, for example, may be gloriously sharp, it's "glorious" colors are completely off and incorrect and look nothing like they should. And unless Oh, What A Lovely War changes prints after thirty minutes, its colors were quite faded if memory serves. I'll have to check out the rest of the transfer.
-
So, I guess it will be fair to announce the Tony winners in all pre-broadcast categories as they happen.
-
Will we never get to page four?
-
Welcome sixteen GUESTS and don't forget that this is the place to be this very evening.

------ A very good morning to the H/Ks and DRs here this morning.
And, a very good Tony morning to dear Esteemed, rested, revitalized, and cock-combed BK --
-
Shayne, if you could do high quality grabs from those DVDs and put them on a CD, that would be great.

Well, it was on UPN (or the WB, one of the two) and they obviously didn't KNOW it was brilliant and surreal until folks started writing about it on the internet. After they realized it had more to it than dumb blondes and sexy talk they shut it down pronto!

I often need a Mary Cherry fix....or a Cherry Cherry fix...or a Nicole Julian bitch-slap.
The show is a TOTAL WALLOW!
POPULAR is so perverse I don't know how I missed it's initial run! The wedding episode's parodies of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane were completely surreal; I cannot imagine anyone believing the aimed-for audience remotely knew the film and got the jokes, and the mockery, such as the BEVERLY HILLS 90210 penchant for casting mid-20 to early 30 year-old actrors as 10th grade students(!!!), is amazing in itself. In that respect, it's kind of like a demented PEANUTS comic strip with 16 year-olds being the microcosm instead of pre-schoolers. The writing for the psycho Mary Cherry is insane but casting Delta Burke as her mother Cherry Cherry goes into the stratosphere of inspiration.
-
Will we never get to page four?
In just a minute, I expect.
-
This has turned out to be a very heavily scheduled day.... not a normal relaxing Sunday for me, oh no, not relaxing and normal.
I have an important appointment at 3:00 this afternoon with my CPA, then have to meet a couple of people at 4:15 PM to discuss some things, and then I have to pick up a young musician friend of mine (at 7:30 PM) who is visiting for a few days here in Phoenix. He is doing some music work here, and he is staying at my place and I offered to help him with his work and drive him while he's here.
And Elmo, TCB, OzTom, and the PianoTemptress,.... get those thoughts and comments out of your head. This lad is one of my 2 "adopted music kids" -- they are both brilliant young players (in the field that I worked in), both live in England, and are also both 2 of the nicest, talented, and warmest human beings that you could hope to meet. So, no incest here, thank you.
The only problem is, I don't know if I can be here for the Tony fun and festivities. I remember back to Oscar night, and that was truly manic, outrageous, lightning-fast posting that was going on that night!! :)
-
I will be shocked beyond redemption if SPRING AWAKENING doesn't win Best Musical.
I think CURTAINS will win Best Book and SPRING AWAKENING Best Score.

Isn't it funny that the biggest theatre chat board shut itself down yesterday so the moderators could attend their annual Tony party - as if they couldn't trust not moderating the board for a few hours. It was supposed to be back online last night, and, of course, it still isn't. Will they completely miss the Tony Awards?

TIME AFTER TIME is one of my Top Five films of all time. I have never really loved Mary Steenburgen (I will leave that to Mr. Danson), but in this film she is delightful. Malcolm McDowell has never been more endearing, and David Warner is pretty darn sexy for a murder suspect. This is one of those rare films that I never tire of watching.

The All That Chat party was a lot of fun, including a brief entertainment section when Skip played piano for a number sung by Mary Stout (a parody of "And All That Jazz" called simply enough "And All That Chat," parody written by Scarlet Street's own Bob Gutowski - a fellow I first met at a BK book signing for WRITER'S BLOCK in the Village in December 2004, the same day i first met BK himself, so all comes to a couple of degrees of separation from BK).
People knew BK had released the Last Starfighter CD, so several people had things to say to us (all lovely comments, BTW) about BK.

Moi aussi! I still remember seeing it in a theatre on the East Side in 1979(?) with friends from The Drama Book Shop. I remember bursting into tears of happiness when she jumped into the time machine with him at the end.

I guess my reactions can be called "ravings....I'm certainly not privy to how much more perfect they ought to be. I can only express my opinions based upon what I see on my TV screen through the HD DVD, as well as my 50-plus years of movie-going and readings on the topic. I know what I like and what I don't. I totally "liked" what I saw.
What I saw in "Oh! What A Lovely War" is vibrantly colorful...rich deep colors in a pristine transfer. The first 30 minutes are filmed a la the Ascot sequence in "My Fair Lady" -- in a tented facility with off-white lighted background and off-white architectural features. The ladies are all in white. The men, however, are peacocks -- Ralph Richardson wears a uniform of the deepest black with glistening gold brocade and a gorgeous cerulean sash. John Gielgud is in a diplomat's suit...the deepest black with a gray silk cravat...decidedly unfaded and quite stunning. Throughout the first part of the film, all the men are strutting around in costumes with the strongest colors while the women are muted in whites, beiges and pastels. It's a choice made for the design of the film. It would be impossible for the film to be faded and yet still have the men's costumes look so spectacular and color-saturated. If what you are seeing on your TV looks faded, you should question the calibration of either it or your DVD player. All flesh tones are quite natural, as well.
"The Searchers" may also be "off", as you say....but all movies should experience such "off" colors as this film is incredible-looking. I am also decidedly not alone in my assessments of both films' particular grandeur.
Of course, I'm just ignorant me.

Good Afternoon!
WHEW! That was a good workout!
Now, I just have to continually remind myself not to workout again tomorrow. My body, my muscles need the rest. Otherwise, it will truly be a case of diminishing returns. -And I know of what I speak from past experience. :-\ So... However, a nice jaunt/job/jog/brisk walk in the Park would and could be nice.
Dr Jose, break a leg, screw a cue this afternoon!

Yes, DR ELMORE....my reaction at the end of TIME AFTER TIME was the same as yours.

That's ridiculous! Nobody else associated with a musical would even be nominated for an award without someone writing the book and score. And there would be no musical numbers in the show. That is a REVOLTIN' DEVELOPMENT! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
If the Tony's telecast is to remain viable, it must get "numbers" - the show most first and foremost entertain the masses if it is to survive as over-the-air network TV; if telecasting the second tier award presentations and acceptances is the price to pay....
(I wish they could get a cable network to do the "other" awards like we did for the Oscars.)

Today is "looming"....and it hasn't yet let me know what it's going to "be."
It's still foggy...although I had no indication through the night that the fog was moving in. It's been very still and not particularly cool the way our fog usually makes things.
I've heard folks hereabouts refer to this as "earthquake weather", but I've had no major earthquake experience with which to compare it.

Happy birthday Baxter the Clown!

So true in EVERY respect, DR Larry! One minute, you think the writers have abandoned any sense of self-respect and set up some brain-dead teen trauma situation, and then they bash us over the head with incredible humor based on irony, sarcasm and wit.
Delta Burke's Cherry Cherry IS inspired. It's the character she was born to play. She's Suzanne Sugarbaker AFTER absorbing Julia Sugarbaker...Julia's mouth and grits combined with Suzanne's disregard for niceties except as applies to herself.
-
It wouldn't hurt to mention here that the male casting of "Popular" was consistently interesting.
Included among the supporting players were Eric Mabius (Daniel in "Ugly Betty") as the football coach and Robert Gant (of "Queer As Folk") as a very unusual principal (whose mother happens to be the old crone who supervises the school cafeteria).
Christopher Gorham (Betty's current love interest on "Ugly Betty") is terrific, as is Bryce Johnson as the captain of the football team who surreptitiously stars in the school musical "South Pacific"....to his father's utter dismay.
I'm just thrilled, Larry, to have you with whom to share observations about this terrific show!

Best Book and Best Score are still a part of the regular Tony broadcast...this is from Playbill.com
Although the CBS broadcast does not commence until 8 PM, the official Tony Awards website — located at www.TonyAwards.com — will offer exclusive live video of the first seven awards beginning at 7:15 PM. Deemed the "Creative Arts Tony Awards," these seven awards include prizes for Best Scenic Design of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Play, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Orchestrations. The Regional Theatre Award will also be presented to the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA, during the pre-telecast segment.

And that's probably curtains for CURTAINS.
der Brucer
I don't think so, CURTAINS is very commercial and I think that's part of the reason the pundits don't like it. I've seen it 5 times and each time it was a full house and the audience laughed and laughed and laughed. It's a big old fashioned musical comedy that I wouldn't hesitate to take anyone to see, I can't say that for some of the other shows that the pundits love. People love David Hyde Pierce and will go to see him plus it's Kander and Ebb. My guess is that it will still do fine even if it doesn't win anything. I'm still hoping it wins best book.

Why do people who drop by unannounced for "just a minute" block the driveway and stand and talk.....for a LONG TIME?

I actually think Best Book is an interesting category. I loved Grey Gardens and was amazed at the first act. Everything in it came from little off hand comments in the documentary. It's a creation of Doug Wright, but is a very plausible creation based on the Doc. While the second act is more entertaining, it is straight from the documentary, in many cases word for word.
From what I've heard the book for Spring Awakening is almost straight from the play and of course Curtains is totally created by Rupert based on Peter Stones original concept.
So, I think the race will be between Grey Gardens and Curtains. Of course I'm cheering for Curtains, but I would be happy if either of these two won

I just got through going through my "Education in a box" bag. I have a box for elementary/Jr High/ and High School and College. I anaged to find quite a few photos of our friend who died a week ago yesterday. I am going to try to see if I can improve them in photoshop and then print them out for his family, and for my brother, who is having a terrible time dealing with this, mainly because he lives alone in the mountains and diesn't have much to take his mind off of it.
I hope he will go with me on Father's Day to visit my dad. It might be a nice break for him.

The fact that the Tonys are telecast in the summer "off-season" is a help since the ratings expectations are much lower than during the regular season. And the ceremony carries quite a bit of prestige with it as usually the classiest of the award shows with the best performance talent.
So, unless the ratings hit rock bottom tonight, I doubt seriously CBS will drop their option to show it.
-
I had myself a CLOSER marathon afternoon.
First, I watched the last episode in the set, the two-part special shown last December. I had forgotten a good deal about it, so it was simply grand seeing Brenda regain her job and squad after they were unfairly taken away from her.
-
As soon as that two-part episode was over, I jumped right back to the start of season two so I could rewatch every single episode again. The comedy elements of the show, especially those first few episodes when Brenda was trying to stay off processed sugar products, were simply hilarious.
-
And I'm looking at the ensemble acting among the squad, and the more I see it, the more I'm impressed about how fantastically this group of actors functions as one.
And just another week before I get to see Brenda Leigh in NEW adventures, and in high definition yet! Hooray!

Sunday afternoon greetings! DH Richard, DS Rob, and I have had a busy Sunday in Cincinnati. Rob and I dropped Richard off at church for a class and went to UC to do a moving-out errand for Rob. After coffee at Starbuck's we went back to church for 11:30 mass, then on a shopping trip during which Rob bought a pair of shoes, a shirt, and some speakers for his iPod. I bought 2 pairs of shoes, some cosmetics, and a birthday present for my DN Laura (who was with me in NYC for DR PennyO's show 2 years ago).
Now we're home and I have the MacBook all charged up so I can be online for the Tony bash and watch TV in the family room.

Felix is Nicola...Rosina kicks him out and he has to move in with his single buddy, Bart, at the boarding house. Nick is a neat freak and has a steady job; Bart is a freelance sportsmonger. After having their Friday night poker party busted up by the police, Nick and Bart wind up in the hoosegow. They are forced to share a jail cell where Bart's slovenly habits drive Nick nuts and he is temporarily committed to a hospital for the criminally insane.
Gotta fix the ending, though...it's a real downer.
Neil Simon, look out!

Keith has needed a new keyboard for way too long. The keys on our old one were sticking and the backspace didn’t work. Today we finally went to Circuit City, Sherlock was an angel while we shopped and got loads of attention from the other shoppers, to pick one up. While we were there I also got a new laptop with a built in wireless. I’m hoping the built in wireless solves my connection problems & I don’t have to keep re-booting the computer every ten minutes or so.
DRLaura. I also checked out your new camera, very nice. Since I got a new computer I’ll wait a bit for a new camera. I like the camera and the size but I’m not sure I want a camera without an old fashioned eye hole instead of using the screen to take a photo. It did seem much clearer than with the older models.
-
I forgot to check out the zoom options on the camera. It was difficult to play around with the camera since it was attached to a cord. ;D

I'm quite fascinated by all the gender-fuck going on in it, and that's another reason I can't believe such a gay-friendly, she's-a-lesbian-she's-straight-she's gay-or-is-she? attitude ran for even two years and not two minutes! I was surprised the transexual episode had a rather sad ending because Bobbi Glass (is this another JD Salinger reference along with "Cather in the Rye"?) and her clan, all played by Diane Delano, are totally ambi-sexual; they call Bobbi "Sir," she's seems like a butch lesbian, she's been in that kinky hetero(???) relationship wth the fried chicken restaurant manager who wasgoing to sell the cute boy students into white slavery, and her brother (played also by Ms Delano) the military man is truly weird. And yet, she voted down Miss Debby while at the same time Cherry Cherry bought a corporation to change their gay rights policies! It's insane, totally off the wall and it's become my new obsession. Of course, having Erik Estrada play himself and Mary Cherry being on E! with a shaved head was also sooooo perverse.
-
That CRISPY HOMO named Quentin, known for being CHOOSY, PRIM and snarky, thought that his HYPOCORISM should be "civil servant." His friends, preferring to cut to the chase, simply called him Dorothy.

Charlotte's dance recital was too long. The lady who is the director of the STEPS ON BROADWAY school is a total bore; she has the personality of wet laundry and came onstage too often to ramble on. There were some wonderful numbers and several bizarre failures, the most inane being something set to Grofe's "On The Trail," involving three girls in leotards as horses(???) and a ballerina in classic white tutu wearing a cowboy hat and waving a wand. I laughed myself silly during it.
There was also a wonderful anarchic "school's out" hip-hop number choreographed by one of the music theatre teachers, and some classic ballet by Leslie Browne who played Shirley MacLaine's daughter in THE TURNING POINT. I saw Charlotte very briefly after the recital; she was of f to dress up for the tony Awards and party. It's a hard life,

Same here! SO FRUSTRATING!!!!! >:( :'(
-
Dana Ivey looks like FLO from ALICE.
She's an Atlanta girl. Her mom, Mary Nell Santacroce, was a revered actress here--- absolutely wonderful.
-
She would feel right at home in one, for sure.
-
Bernadette is working on a new standards album!
-
I love Mary Louise Wilson
Ditto!!!! :)
-
Bernadette is working on a new album of standards
-
FROST/NIXON.....why?
-
LOL DR Singdaw, great minds think alike
-
Laurence O'Keefe seems pretty philosophical about no BEST MUSICAL nomination...
"Misunderestimated"? Guess that's why he's the composer.
I will have to check out the LEGALLY BLONDE score. I loved BAT BOY!
-
Bernadette is working on a new album of standards
I have no response to that....for public consumption. 8)
-
Interesting, they say in London they knew more about Frost than they did Nixon so the focus was shifted a little
-
I'd like to see Frost/Nixon
-
Watch the real thing.....why see Memorex.....why look at some pretentious "interpretation" of real people?
-
Wow it's BEN!!!!!!
-
Watch the real thing.....why see Memorex.....why look at some pretentious "interpretation" of real people?
I've seen the original which is probably memorex at this point, considering Nixon is dead, I'd just like to see it
-
Gavin is a cutie......oh Mary!
-
Ben Vereen is really looking good..braids and all
-
I've seen the original which is probably memorex at this point, considering Nixon is dead, I'd just like to see it
LOL...... :D
-
Gavin Lee had a letter from Dick Van Dyke wishing him the best
-
More neckties.....
Oh.....don't think I want to see Ben's new show.....
-
Gorgeous pics, DR Laura. As always.
-
Gavin Lee had a letter from Dick Van Dyke wishing him the best
Isn't that sweet? :)
-
John Mahoney!!!
-
We do have a Vanetti... case here! ;)
Good God---I've only typed that name a billion times!
That's what I get for multi-tasking!
-
Ooppps.....Joan Rivers moment.
No, actually I wasn't nominated.....
-
John Mahoney now. They said he was nominated and he wasn't ...what a spoo!!!
-
John looks very thin.
-
Isn't that sweet? :)
Nice man. He sent a goodluck video message to Michael Ball for the opening night of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" in London.
-
FRAISER invades Broadway.
-
I had forgotten John was in that seminal production of The House of Blue Leaves...
-
John Mahoney is talking about all the Frasier people on stage at the same time and says he DHP and Kelsey Grammer would like to do a play together
-
Who's that old woman in the pink dress behind the interviewers?
-
I love John Mahoney.
-
I hope Mary Louise WIlson wins tonight.
-
Who's that old woman in the pink dress behind the interviewers?
Well, it can't be DR JoseSPiano...he said he was going to go in a tux...
-
Loved what John said about preferring working on the stage and the current of energy between stage and audience.
-
Very strange to see the A CHORUS LINE logo....and it's not on the Schubert Theater.
-
Well, it can't be DR JoseSPiano...he said he was going to go in a tux...
That's what he SAID!!! ;D
-
I DVR'd the two hour TONY pre-show on CBS earlier this morning but have not had time to watch it yet...
-
Ah, well, I need a flash player upgrade, so I won't be viewing unless I can find a link to one.
-
Jay Johnson!!!! What the heck?
-
Gavin is a cutie......oh Mary!
He's the one person I really want to win. He was the Prince in JUBILEE in London.
-
You know.....as opposed to a lot of shows....when someone says he/she is honored to be nominated....I really them them.
-
Props for Gavin.
-
Christine forgot her turtleneck under that dress!
-
Did she play the TITle role in the Jayne Mansfield play?
-
Christine [E] has pretty big hair tonight.
-
I see Neil patrick Harris back there!!
-
Neil Patrick Harris, right behind Christine!
-
I had forgotten John was in that seminal production of The House of Blue Leaves...
That Lincoln Center revival paled compared to the brilliant original down at the Bus and Truck Warehouse in the early 1970s with Anne Meara.
-
Christine [E] has pretty big hair tonight.
Well when you play someone every night who is "unmarried, bald and fat" you may want to have big hair when you can
-
She said cake with gravy.
-
Cake with gravy?
-
Inexcusable for folks not to know who's nominated and who isn't.
-
Everything else is gravy...this is just the cake!
-
Christine [E] has pretty big hair tonight.
To match her ego. She's a bitch!
-
There's gonna be a lot of duplicate posts tonight! :)
-
Well when you play someone every night who is "unmarried, bald and fat" you may want to have big hair when you can
True......I AM someone every night who is unmarried bald and fat.... ;D
-
Well when you play someone every night who is "unmarried, bald and fat" you may want to have big hair when you can
Good point! :)
-
JINX
Who is this long faced guy?
-
You've done...straight...plays...
-
Well, I'm cheering for Christine. She does an incredible Little Edie
-
Coast of Utopia sounds interesting!
-
What an inane comment..."you must have had fun researching his voracious sexual appetite"...[directed to Mr. Pittu]
-
Nice boutoiniere ...
-
Well, I'm cheering for Christine. She does an incredible Little Edie
And I liked her Big Edie too
-
Donna Murphy showed up.
-
Donna looks very nice.
-
Didn't you think she would
-
Updated the flash player and it still wasn't enough to give me the show. Oh, well.
-
And I liked her Big Edie too
Is that a euphanism?
Uh oh I think he just dissed Donna. 8)
-
elmore I wish I had a Godfather like you.
-
He's the one person I really want to win. He was the Prince in JUBILEE in London.
I'm rooting for him, too, based on your JUBILEE.
-
I didn't know she was Jacques' daughter!!!! Wow...she's a Pontipee!!!
-
I do not want Donna Murphy to win. I am not a DOnna Murphy fan though I appreciate her talent.
-
DR elmore3003, I forgot to post...I had the pleasure of enjoying Ms. Kaye's Florence Foster Jenkins last evening. The play itself was middling...the playwright touched on some interesting ideas, but didn't go anywhere with them. However, both performances were really wonderful.
-
Who does she play?
-
The Coram Boy herself?
-
Is that a euphanism?
No she plays Big Edie in Act I and Little Edie in Act II
-
Pretty dress Zanthy is wearing....she looks glamorous!!!
Oh brother.....the New School for Drama.....
-
That gal got a nose fer shur!
-
Is Mary Louise in Act I? If so, playing whom?
-
Xanthe...wow her first audition turns into a Tony Nomination. Hope it isn't all downhill from there
-
Oh...she's hawf and hawf.
-
DR Jane, congratulations on your new acquisition. May it give you many happy years of posting here at HHW!
Thank you. Keith has turned it on & is checking it out. The screen is much smaller than my current one, but much brighter & clearer. We can also travel with it, this one is too heavy.
-
I have a couple of things on the boil at the moment and I have to make a choice
-
Xanthe...wow her first audition turns into a Tony Nomination. Hope it isn't all downhill from there
She seems pretty with it......must be a stunning performance. :D
-
I have a couple of things on the boil at the moment and I have to make a choice
Probably got towels in the dryer, too. ;D
-
Is Mary Louise in Act I? If so, playing whom?
No, Mary Louise is only in Act II
-
No, Mary Louise is only in Act II
Thanks, DR Cilla.
-
Do we have to give spoilers on the off-network awards coming up?
-
I have towels in the dryer!
-
Mary Louise is incredible as Big Edie. I am really glad I saw the documentary before I went. It really was like they just came to life when Act II started
-
Do we have to give spoilers on the off-network awards coming up?
The Off-Network awards are live coast to coast, don't know if that means we can give spoilers
-
What an inane comment..."you must have had fun researching his voracious sexual appetite"...[directed to Mr. Pittu]
David's a nice man. I've met him a couple of times. He directed a musical at the O'Neil Center in 2004 while I was working on WHERE'S CHARLEY? He came to our opening night performance and party.
-
I do not want Donna Murphy to win.
Why? Is it because she's a "b*tch" too?! ;)
-
I think BK gave the okay about the pre-show awards last year.
-
So do we know for sure that it's Ant's birthday, or is it his alter ego's?
-
Good Evening!
One down... who knows how many more to go. :)
-
I have towels in the dryer!
Was that nominated for best revival of a play?
-
I have towels in the dryer!
But are you Tony-nominated!!!
-
I like David Pittu too. A great actor, and a very nice man.
-
I do not want Donna Murphy to win. I am not a DOnna Murphy fan though I appreciate her talent.
Same here.
-
Boyd and Stark!!!
-
Hiya DR Jose. Congratulations . A Chorus of congratulations.
-
*And I only missed one cue, and screwed up two.
;D
-
OK - I've relocated into the family room on the laptop, which has a newer version of OS X. And, now I can connect to the webcast from the red carpet!
-
Were Stark Sands and Boyd Gaines in the same shower at the same time?
-
Journey's end just closed immediately before going to the Tonys that's quite a night
-
Xanthe Elbrick has worked the past summers at Williamstown.
-
Frank!!!
-
But are you Tony-nominated!!!
I am? Well, that's an honor!
-
Were Stark Sands and Boyd Gaines in the same shower at the same time?
Sounds like it....I want the video. :P
-
DR Jose, how was ACL? Are you going to be watching the Tonys with us or will you be there
-
Sounds like it....I want the video. :P
Old news.
-
So DR Jose, you didn't go?
-
*And I only missed one cue, and screwed up two.
;D
A Chor s L ne
-
Did Swoosie have work done?
-
Swoosie got skinny!
-
DR Jose, how was ACL? Are you going to be watching the Tonys with us or will you be there
My friend decided he was feeling better, so he's gonna go. It's his first time going, so he's gonna head to RCMH, and if he starts feeling ill during the ceremony, then he'll just quietly leave the hall.
-
Sounds like it....I want the video. :P
THAT'S the next Kritzerland release!!! 8)
-
Did she just infer the Angela and Vanessa are way OLD!!!???
-
The posts are going so fast it's hard to keep up
-
Hmmm...I think you are right, DR JRand--work has been done.
-
Shaw didn't speak to Kurtz!
-
SHe's doing Bananas.
-
I have been told I should not use an internet connection for now. I don't know when I will be back.
Have fun tonight.
-
Boyd and Stark!!!
They were both wonderful in JOURNEY'S END. I can't say Mr Gaines is very friendly, though. Rather unfriendly, in fact.
-
if he starts feeling ill during the ceremony, then he'll just quietly leave the hall.
Why quietly? ;)
-
I think BK gave the okay about the pre-show awards last year.
I believe he gave his OK earlier today, too.
-
She looks "scrawny", in the words of DR Elmore!
-
Sort of Tony spoiler...
A Chorus Line will be opening the broadcast. Consequently, when I left the pit, there was a line of actors waiting for pizza and drinks which were provided by the management. Talk about a quick turn around.
-
Marcia Gay looks so glamorous....oopsss....No I didn't win.......oh...well...
-
Swoosie has always been skinny.
-
Please post winners. I can't get the feed even though I just successfully upgrade my Flash player. Drat. Thanks.
-
Did Swoosie have work done?
Looks like new boobs!
-
Maybe that's what makes her boobs look suddenly BIG!
-
Gee--TNT airs the SAG awards and the guy who prompt the hosts is way more on the ball than these guys.
-
Marcia Gay Harden is looking really fun
-
Sorry to hear Boyd isn't friendly....but there you are. Maybe he is afraid someone will ask him about PORKY'S.
-
I was sort of surprised that Boyd Gaines didn't go ahead and shave off his moustache after his closing matinee. I mean, he won't need for Gypsy, I don't think.
-
Once again this year, the Tonys are not being shown in high def. Rats!
-
Grey Gardens guys!!
-
more awards, more awards!
-
Here are the Grey Gardens guys
-
Handsome boys....
-
Ant's birthday? Anyone? Anyone?
-
I was sort of surprised that Boyd Gaines didn't go ahead and shave off his moustache after his closing matinee. I mean, he won't need for Gypsy, I don't think.
Is he playing Rose? ::)
-
Interesting....historical tidbit....
-
Happy Birthday Ant...if it is your birthday
-
Ant's birthday? Anyone? Anyone?
Yes!!!!
-
Fascinating story---Edie as first lady!
-
winners...winners...
-
...And it would have to take negative ratings for CBS to drop the Tony's from their line-up. I've just always sensed that "they" know it's never gonna win the overnights, and since it's just one night a year, well... The financial loss is not that big a deal. Besides, most of the production costs for the ceremony are carried by the Theatre Wing and not CBS, at least as how I understand the arrangement.
-
Ant's birthday? Anyone? Anyone?
Today!
-
Virtuoso actors!!
-
They are still outside.....
-
winners...winners...
Not until 7:30.. Well, probably 7:35-ish.
-
For all the negatives one might fling at it, it's still the best of the awards shows.
-
Here are the Grey Gardens guys
I guess the orchestrator had to make a pit stop in some steam room before showing up with the gang.
-
Oh brother.....not THESE TWO!!!
-
Today!
Thanks, Tom! Just wanted to check before sending a package to him. Also, one is on the way to you!
-
Not until 7:30.. Well, probably 7:35-ish.
Thanks. I'm anxious, since I can't see it for myself.
-
I thought awards started at 7:15?
-
Ah okay...thanks DR JOSE S PIANO.
-
I guess the orchestrator had to make a pit stop in some steam room before showing up with the gang.
Jealous?
;D
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]! ! ! ! ! HAPPY MAYBE BIRTHDAY TO DR BEN'S ANTHONY ! ! ! ! ![/move]
-
What a waste of time those two are!
-
THESE TWO - were the winners of Grease YTWTIW
-
Awww.... I sat behind Martha Plimpton last year.
-
I have my list of nominees in front of me . . . .
-
CILLA LIZ she looks like your sister!!!!
-
THESE TWO - were the winners of Grease YTWTIW
What show was that?
;D
-
Awww.... I sat behind Martha Plimpton last year.
She looks like a lot of fun
-
I am also munching on popcorn as I read these comments.
-
Jealous?
;D
No way. I really detest him. I prefer to get my jobs by not giving jobs. Which is probably why I'm not working.
-
Wow--Isabell had a lot of work done!
-
What's Helen Gurley Brown doing on this thing?
-
CILLA LIZ she looks like your sister!!!!
Maybe that's why I think she looks like fun!
-
Hmm... I may just watch the ceremony here with my roomies, and then check in - and catch up - during the "West Coast" portion. I don't think I can take the pressure of being "spoiler free" for the duration. We'll see...
-
Oh...this is the SHOW!!!
-
inside RCMH now...
-
Here we Go!!!
-
Thanks, Tom! Just wanted to check before sending a package to him. Also, one is on the way to you!
And it's not my birthday! I'm not even on the Cd list.
-
Oh brother....Hilton....Hilton...Hilton......don't you just know what everyone listening is thinking about?
-
So, we're inside now?
-
What's Helen Gurley Brown doing on this thing?
Anything to be seen.
-
Maybe that's why I think she looks like fun!
Eggs-actly! ;D
-
What's Helen Gurley Brown doing on this thing?
Probably because she's seen a Broadway show! :D
-
So, we're inside now?
Yup!
Lackluster applause for Hilton rep.
-
Jane Alexander is classy fer shur.
-
What's Helen Gurley Brown doing on this thing?
She and her husband are actually quite ardent supporters of the New York Theatre scene - and elsewhere. She was around for a few rehearsals for All About Us, and was even there for opening night.
-
No surprise about that!
-
Why do we have PIP?
-
THey are showing a picture in a picture of the red carpet...boy is that annoying
-
DR JoseSPiano...
Belated CONGRATS on completing your FIRST ACL on Broadway!!! :)
-
First Hilton....now VISA!!
-
BK said it's OK to give spoilers for the pre-network awards, right?
-
Jane Alexander is classy fer shur.
Have always loved her from THE GREAT WHITE HOPE on.
-
Jane Alexander...she narrated a documentary for us: BUILDING BOMBS. We paid her, and she surprised us by signing the chack back over to our film, which desperately needed funding.
-
Hate the PIP, too....
-
Yay! Here comes Atlanta!!!!!
-
BK said it's OK to give spoilers for the pre-network awards, right?
Yes, he did.
-
BK said it's OK to give spoilers for the pre-network awards, right?
You are correct, sir.
-
Why do we have PIP?
So we can see who's late?
-
Woohooo!!!!
-
BK said it's OK to give spoilers for the pre-network awards, right?
The consensus is yes, he said it's ok
-
Please provide winners for these first awards. Thanks.
-
DR EDISAURUS do you know Susan Booth?
-
Jane Alexander...she narrated a documentary for us: BUILDING BOMBS. We paid her, and she surprised us by signing the chack back over to our film, which desperately needed funding.
I met her and her husband in a car park in NYC not too long ago. She was very kind and very gracious.
-
Yea....PIP is gone!
-
God! Move the PIP! I want to see her dress!
-
It's Monday morning here. The awards have finished.
-
Edisaurus...that Tony is for you as an Atlantan....cool we have a Tony winner among us
-
I met her and her husband in a car park in NYC not too long ago. She was very kind and very gracious.
Wow NYC is a hotbed of see-lebrities!
-
Hey, Susan said that award belongs to ME!!! (And the rest of the people of Atlanta...)
-
Yay, Atlanta!!!! :)
-
It's Monday morning here. The awards have finished.
Let the others tell us the winners. Please don't you do it! Thanks!!
;D
-
Nice boys.
-
Congratulations, Atlanta!
-
Here are the Jersey Boys presenting
-
Did JLY win last year? I can't remember!!
-
Your award, DR ELMORE!!
-
OK. I'll stay quiet.
-
Best Orchestrations.... Duncan Sheik
-
Wooo.....one for Cilla Liz's show....
-
Why play West Side Story for Duncan?
-
He's cute.
-
Ugh! The teeny boppers go wild.
-
That's not much of a surprise, was it?
-
He's cute.
And he's younger than me!
-
I do like that CD!!
-
Why does the orchestra sound so THUNDEROUS?
-
Ugh! The teeny boppers go wild.
Not looking forward to that all night. One reason I don't like the Music Hall as a venue.
-
Wooo.....one for Cilla Liz's show....
I watched Duncan Sheik sitting and playing about 10 feet from me at times more than the show.....
He's reading every word of his acceptance. Wonder if he has more of them written out
-
Why play West Side Story for Duncan?
They've been playing that track for the past couple of years. I don't think the Local 802 guys are on the clock until 8:00 proper. ;)
-
Lighting design. Play
-
The SA songs are interesting, but they're commentaries...not particularly character-driven or plot-forwarding.
-
DR EDISAURUS do you know Susan Booth?
No, but I"m proud of my theatre!
-
Lighting Design of a play .... Coast of Utopia
-
Coast of Utopia.....lighting design play.
-
Not looking forward to that all night. One reason I don't like the Music Hall as a venue.
Just be happy their cheering and buying tickets and filling those seats!
-
Monday morning here too.... I know.... Nobody asked me!
So I'll stay quiet too! ;)
Thanks. Let it be a surprise for the rest of us!
;D
-
nice speech.....and they look great!
-
Wonderful Town! The music, anyway...
-
The SA songs are interesting, but they're commentaries...not particularly character-driven or plot-forwarding.
Most of them are "inner-monologue".
-
I have a feeling those first two awards are going to be indicative of most of the evening.
-
Congratulations, Atlanta!
They should have mentioned SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL, which was also at the Alliance!
-
Best Orchestrations.... Duncan Sheik
Excellent! I love the score.
-
He said Jack!
-
Next category?
And are they breaking for commercials?
-
No but they are all giving acceptance speeches...3 people
-
How does it take THREE people to light a play?
-
These people are getting a lot of acceptance speech time.
-
They've been playing that track for the past couple of years. I don't think the Local 802 guys are on the clock until 8:00 proper. ;)
Jeez...you'd the composers could get their own music performed.
Cheap, Cheap, cheap!
-
What if these webcast awards run past 8pm?
-
Lighting Design Musical.....SPring Awakening
-
How does it take THREE people to light a play?
One bulb at a time? One gel at a time?
-
Why do they keep saying One-Ten in the Shade?
-
He looked like he was about to do a strip tease, right there in the aisle!
-
Two for SPRING....
-
Excellent! I love the score.
Well, if you're happy...I'm happy!
-
Are we sensing a pattern?
-
The three Tony Awards winners for "The Coast of Utopia" - Each play in the trilogy was lit by a different designer.
-
This guy is annoying...
-
He looked like he was about to do a strip tease, right there in the aisle!
I think he has to go to the bathroom. 8)
-
Was that a Sally Struthers crack?
-
One bulb at a time? One gel at a time?
Only for Barnum!
-
The three Tony Awards winners for "The Coast of Utopia" - Each play in the trilogy was lit by a different designer.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
Was that a Sally Struthers crack?
Talking about her behind?! ;)
-
Was that a Sally Struthers crack?
Twice! :)
-
What if these webcast awards run past 8pm?
They can't. And since there's no commercials, they should be able to make the 8:00 deadline.
-
Best costume design play - Coast of Utopia
-
I love having Jose here, our inside man for all things TOny.
Thanks, Jose.
-
Ugly dress for a costume designer....
-
Who designed her costume?
-
Is that her bra strap?
-
Poor Jane Greenwood. All those nominations and never a win. Ever.
-
Do those original 802 members get $$ each time those old sound clips are played?
-
Ugly dress for a costume designer....
Maybe it's a costume. ;)
-
The costume designer needs a costume designer!
-
our inside man for all things TOny.
In more ways than one! ;)
-
Costume Design of a musical - Grey Gardens
-
Grey gardens....musical costumes....nice!!!
-
In more ways than one! ;)
Be nice. Blame him for everything, but be nice about it.
-
This guy looks like Senor Wences.
-
William Ivey Long's fifth win in the category.
-
Cool, William Ivey Long is designing costumes for Skip's show HERRINGBONE at Williamstown (starting on Thursday).
-
Baldheaded woman in the audience....tell that man to shut up
-
Be nice. Blame him for everything, but be nice about it.
I thought it was a compliment!
-
Scenic Design of a play - Coast of Utopia
-
Oh, I get it!---there's no orchestra to paly them off if they go on too long.
-
Wow!
-
Baldheaded woman in the audience....tell that man to shut up
That's Suzanne Hilferty. I think it's a very sweet speech and sentiment, dedication.
*And she also designed Lestat - and received a Tony nomination too for her work on that show.
-
Who is picking these sound cues..."Make Someone Happy"?
-
Nice speeches....
-
Oh, I get it!---there's no orchestra to paly them off if they go on too long.
And there aren't that many awards to give out.
-
I thought it was sweet too.
-
That's Suzanne Hilferty. I think it's a very sweet speech and sentiment, dedication.
*And she also designed Lestat - and received a Tony nomination too for her work on that show.
But I won, and you didn't! 8)
-
Who is picking these sound cues..."Make Someone Happy"?
I think they're just simply "Cue #1", "Cue #2", "Cue #3", etc.
-
DR JoseSPiano...what is Patrick's involvement tonight? Is he conducting for the opening sequence?
-
Scenic Design of a Musical - mary Poppins
-
Wow! Didn't expect that!
-
Will MARY POPPINS win Scenic Design of a musical?
-
But I won, and you didn't! 8)
No. I really thought you should have won, and I'm really surprised that I did.
-
Bob Crowley won for play and musical
-
I guessed right!
-
He's gobsmacked!
-
DR Cillaliz, you are announcing the awards before they happen--your broadband is broader than mine!
-
Will MARY POPPINS win Scenic Design of a musical?
Yes
-
Cool, William Ivey Long is designing costumes for Skip's show HERRINGBONE at Williamstown (starting on Thursday).
Neat! Keep us posted on that!
-
No, it's just ESP
-
And she's broad ...where a broad ... should be broad ... (a South Pacific reference.)
-
DR Cillaliz, you are announcing the awards before they happen--your broadband is broader than mine!
The smile for the fools was particularly broad tonight! :)
-
That's all of the preshow awards
-
They have 90 seconds to get up to the stage.
-
DR JoseSPiano...what is Patrick's involvement tonight? Is he conducting for the opening sequence?
He conducted the recording sessions they did on Thursday and Friday. Yes, there will be tracks being used for some of tonight's presentations. *But there usually is some sort of "insurance" anyway just in case something happens during the ceremony.
-
I will be glad when I can see and hear the fun!
-
They did a nice job!
-
DR Cillaliz--your broadband is broader than mine!
Gee, have a little more tact, man!
-
Now what do we do?
-
Preshow over EARLY!!!
-
They have 90 seconds to get up to the stage.
They have 90 seconds once they hit the stage to give their acceptance speeches.
-
And now back to the red carpet...
-
DR JOSE the Jersey Boys said 90 seconds from the time their names are called.
-
Dum-de-dum-de-dum...
-
8 minutes to go before the CBS part starts. Argh!
-
Black screen.
-
Now what do we do?
Why, BLAME JOSE, of course!
-
OH!! I really wish they were showing the "filler" segments they show in the hall. Those were truly some of my favorite moments from last year's ceremony. Seth Rudetsky's bit were HIGH-LARIOUS!
-
Did I just get schooled by DR JOSE?
-
Dum-de-dum-de-dum...
I can name that tune in THREE DUMS!
-
Now what do we do?
For my first number, I'd like to sing an old favorite of mine, and I'm sure of yours . . .
-
They have 90 seconds once they hit the stage to give their acceptance speeches.
That actually makes more sense, but he was saying you have 90 seconds, so don't be hugging people in the aisles etc...
-
OH!! I really wish they were showing the "filler" segments they show in the hall. Those were truly some of my favorite moments from last year's ceremony. Seth Rudetsky's bit were HIGH-LARIOUS!
That would be fun to see on the streaming screen. ;D
-
CBS is ruining our frenzy!
-
DR JOSE the Jersey Boys said 90 seconds from the time their names are called.
Hmm... Well, most of the nominees are seated in the first seven rows and on the aisle, so... RUN!
-
Speaking of Seth, DR JoseSPiano did you see his piece on Playbill the other day, where he talked about absolutely BOTCHING a big cue the last time he subbed in the pit of Phantom? Hilarious, indeed.
-
Bathroom and refreshment break.
-
For my first number, I'd like to sing an old favorite of mine, and I'm sure of yours . . .
;D
-
I can name that tune in THREE DUMS!
I'll tell you what's dum---8 minutes of black.
Is Rosemary Woods in the house?
-
Then he said "Thank your mother and thank God and then go" or something like that
-
So...
Do we really have to post SPOILERS?!?
Heck, I mean it's not my fault you live in the wrong time zone.
;D
-
I'm watching Andy Rooney right now.
-
Well I hope I win tonight for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD last September....I know it was at Putnam County Playhouse and I know I wasn't nominated....but you know....I just feel LUCKY tonight! And they do recognize EXCELLENCE in THEATRE!!
-
Well, I guess it's not even a "SPOILER" we have to post. We just can't post. Period.
<sitting on my hands>
-
Didn't bk imply that we're not supposed to post winners, even with a SPOILER attached?
-
Well I hope I win tonight for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD last September....I know it was at Putnam County Playhouse and I know I wasn't nominated....but you know....I just feel LUCKY tonight! And they do recognize EXCELLENCE in THEATRE!!
Good luck, DR JRand!
-
I'm watching Andy Rooney right now.
Me, too.... :P
-
I'm watching Andy Rooney right now.
David Pogue's send-up on the New York Times website was priceless!
-
We can post everything but the winners....so I suppose we can post everything but their names ....
-
In any case...
DR singdaw - I meant to tape that CBS 2 Tony pre-show, but I forgot, so...
I believe former DR Jason was interviewed for one of the Avenue Q segments.
-
Thanks DR MATTH.....
I guess just dresses and dances and scenes......but we will still KNOW!!!
-
Here we go!!!!
-
I remember the year Idina Menzel won, I was just DYING....
-
And remember - you West Coasties....
If you don't want to know who won, don't look at any other news sites, of IPS home pages. You may end up seeing some headlines you don't want to.
-
Still 2 minutes
-
One minute.
-
I remember the year Idina Menzel won, I was just DYING....
And was that a good thing or a bad thing?
-
And was that a good thing or a bad thing?
I meant IO swas dying to spill the beans on HHW. I was thrilled for her.
-
Funny to see it dark in New York when it's bright sunshine here
-
Listen to that ovation for SPRING!
-
It's still bright and sunshiny here!
-
Funny to see it dark in New York when it's bright sunshine here
Well, when you tape that on Thursday... ;)
-
Nice opening!
-
It's still bright and sunshiny here!
Another great editor at work. :)
-
John Turturro will be on. Oh boy!
-
Liked the opening.
-
I always love seeing One
-
What is a PIP?
-
The bit with the headshots is weird, some are holding their own headshots and reveal themselves, but then others are holding head shots of someone of a different sex/race. OK...
-
Picture in picture.
-
Awww... I just played this about four hours ago! And for those same people!
:)
-
What is a PIP?
Picture-In-Picture
-
What is a PIP?

....And I have to say, as soon as they went "live", I got a little lump in my throat.
-
Love Angela always and forever . . . like CATS.
-
....And I have to say, as soon as they went "live", I got a little lump in my throat.
I got goose-bumps!
-
Angela was in CATS????? ;)
-
I've never seen ACL. Just shoot me now!
-
Angela looks so beautiful!
-
Awwww...Doogie! I loved him in CABARET.
-
I've never seen ACL. Just shoot me now!
You should see it.
-
Thanks.
It is only 5 pm here and the Tonys don't start until 7 pm.
-
Featured Actor in a play is first, but I won't tell who wins
-
I KNOW!
We may be going up to NY next month to interview Margaret Whiting, so maybe...
-
Not a big surprise, if any at all for that one.
-
Wow---Coast of Utopia has a really nice cast!
-
I KNOW!
We may be going up to NY next month to interview Margaret Whiting, so maybe...
If you'd like house seats....
-
I'm rooting for John Cullum, too...I really like him.
-
WHy aren't they playing him off. Nice to look at, but kind of long.
-
If you'd like house seats....
Oh YESYESYES!
I'm not even shooting, just helping, but I'm trying to get them to work around my CLOSER schedule.
-
Robert a former winner, Vanessa, a noiminee.
-
Best featured actor in a musical is second....won't tell, nope you can't make me
-
Remember.... No winners, please. Or even hints of winners. ;)
-
I can tell I'm going to be making a big order at Deep Discount of OCR's...
-
I'm thinking there's going to be a show that ends up with a major number of prizes - like 7 or 8.
-
Remember.... No winners, please. Or even hints of winners. ;)
Oh, I just thought we couldn't give names. ;D
-
Maybe two shows with big numbers of awards.
-
Oh...I'm getting all choked up...
-
Hey, a lead in to a commercial in character. Great idea!
-
OK... That "bumper" was lame.
-
DHP will be back with a song from CURTAINS. Goody!
-
But a Soprano has been whacked!
-
How will I be able to tear myself away and get dinner? I should have thought ahead...
-
How will I be able to tear myself away and get dinner? I should have thought ahead...
Order delivery
-
So... What is everyone eating right now? What is your Tony Awards knosh?
Mine: An Everything Bagel from H&H, with Spicy Hummus.
-
But a Soprano has been whacked!
"Tony" Soprano?
-
Ok, I've never seen The Lion King
-
"Tony" Soprano?
Oh Duh, I missed the joke....
-
How will I be able to tear myself away and get dinner? I should have thought ahead...
What's Greg doing? ;)
-
How will I be able to tear myself away and get dinner? I should have thought ahead...
Me, too. My guys are getting the munchies. We're prepared to make BLT sandwiches, but I don't want to miss anything here! I even liked the Lion King Visa commercial!
-
Wow 23 pages already.
-
Ok, I've never seen The Lion King
Well, the show actually plays better in the Minskoff, imho. Alas, after the opening number, it still seems a bit long until the curtain call. But at least now more people can see more of "The Circle of Life".
-
Did Angela have prompter trouble?
-
It's too bad that Jeff Daniels could not get nominated for his work in Blackbird. He and his co-star, Allison Pill, were amazing!
-
Best Book of a musical - Boo
-
So... What is everyone eating right now? What is your Tony Awards knosh?
Mine: An Everything Bagel from H&H, with Spicy Hummus.
The new Tony Evening Dinner should be cake with gravy.
-
Did Angela have prompter trouble?
Yes.
-
Book of a musical....what a lovely acceptance speech.
-
Sorry, Cilla!
-
Nice speech
-
Wow Melina's dress shows her butt crack.
-
And, yes, there's some more "screaming" from the teeny-boppers, but after attending last year's ceremony, I believe I heard more of the "Broadway community" hooting and hollering for their comrades, rather then the "teeny-boppers" in the top balcony. *And I also know that there are purposely no microphones anywhere near the balcony. :)
-
Jose, it's your friend John!
-
Jose's dear friend John Kander! Yeah!
-
Hey, Buddy! :)
-
Standing ovation for John Kander.....very good.
-
...And he hates talking in front of crowds! He doesn't get stagefright, he just doesn't like it. ;)
-
I am liking these CURTAINS costumes a lot!
-
What's Greg doing? ;)
He's off giving his old car away to someone.
-
As for "curtains for Curtains, it's still doing well at the box office. -And, as usually happens at this time of year, with all the other shows closing, it helps to funnel the tourists and "day-of-ers" to the remaining shows.
-
I am liking these CURTAINS costumes a lot!
Too bad they're not doing the "slumber party" scene - those pajamas are nice. -Especially on Jim Newman. ;)
-
When in the show does this number happen?
-
Debra Monk sounded great - very Ethel Mermanish!
-
OH! So that was how they were going to feature Debra Monk tonight. :)
-
Guess we'll have those bumpers before each breakl. I'm sorry, but I like them.
-
It's too bad that Jeff Daniels could not get nominated for his work in Blackbird. He and his co-star, Allison Pill, were amazing!
We did two TNT films with them...Jeff Daniels in the horrid GOODBYE GIRL, but after 3watching him in dailies I became an instant fan. (Can't say the same about Patricia Heaton, but I liked her in the play I saw with Tony Shalhoub last year.)
Allison Pill was in a horrible TNT movie with Farrah Fawcett called BABY but she was the standout.
-
CURTAINS looks like a lot of fun.
-
When in the show does this number happen?
Fairly early in Act I. There is more to it. After they know that Jessica is dead, they don't want to go on and this is where Cioffi convinces them to go on with the show
-
Guess we'll have those bumpers before each breakl. I'm sorry, but I like them.
I just don't like the "Law & Order" sound effect that starts them off. ;)
-
Ok, I've never seen The Lion King
I saw it---we had a friend from Atlanta who was doing the bird role and he gave us a full tour backstage and told us quite a few horror stories! That theatre was beautifully restored!
-
Funny SPAM A LOT commercial.
Idina and Taye looked great in the audience.
Wow - I didn't think it would be....but that moment with Cullum and Audra was a bit jarring to me.....as father and daughter....
-
Fairly early in Act I. There is more to it. After they know that Jessica is dead, they don't want to go on and this is where Cioffi convinces them to go on with the show
Ahhhhhhhhhh.... Okay....thanks. ;D
-
CURTAINS looks like a lot of fun.
It is - a lot of fun.
-
I liked that choreography, too.
-
We did two TNT films with them...Jeff Daniels in the horrid GOODBYE GIRL, but after 3watching him in dailies I became an instant fan. (Can't say the same about Patricia Heaton, but I liked her in the play I saw with Tony Shalhoub last year.)

I was soooo looking forward to meeting Jeff Daniels. He's not very friendly, kind of a male Fran Liebowitz. Both times he came into the Drama Book Shop while I was working there, we couldn't wait for him to leave.
-
I will be SO glad when the country switches over to all digital broadcasting in two years. Maybe then the Tonys will be in high def.
-
And, now, some chocolate... Actually, an "exotic candy bar", from Vosges Haut Chocolate.
Black Pearl Bar: wasabi, ginger, black sesame seeds in dark chocolate.
Quite interesting, and quite good. :)
-
CURTAINS looks like a lot of fun.
One of the few things I didn't like about the show was that they felt the need to EXPLAIN the puns to us. COUCH...PSYCHOANALYZE (or whatever it was) ...get it?
BK gives his audiences more credit than that!
-
I am eating Pizza Hut Pizza....extra sausage, extra cheese, and green peppers.
These sausages are spoiled.
Shut up and drink yur gin!
-
Taye and Idina and stunning individually AND in tandem.
-
Score award - -
-
OK - Here's the first close race of the evening - well, close, imho.
Best Score of a Musical.
-
no surprises there.
-
Score continues a trend.
-
I was soooo looking forward to meeting Jeff Daniels. He's not very friendly, kind of a male Fran Liebowitz. Both times he came into the Drama Book Shop while I was working there, we couldn't wait for him to leave.
He did seem like he could be a bit persnickety, but I think it's cool that when he goes on a shoot he takes his whole family in an RV, and that he has his own theatre in the midwest. I just never has suchrespect for him as an actor until I saw him in the dailies.
-
I'm just wondering how many of the provisional closing notices that went up in a few theatre last week, will be going public come morning. Or at least by Tuesday. There could be quite a number of dark marquees on Broadway this summer - in fact, there already are. :-\
-
Love Anika. She's SO different on THE STARTER WIFE TV show.
-
Presenters....oh boy....from the sublime to the ridiculous.
-
Donny Osmond looks pretty nice!
-
Whew! I was afraid Donny Osmond was going to come on in his Gaston costume. ;)
-
Yeah!@ for supporting actress.
-
I'm back and it will be awhile till I can catch up to the posts - I'm about to start page seven, so I have no idea what's what. Does anyone know when the show starts on the West Coast?
-
Her first Tony. cool.
-
Good choice Featured Actress Musical.
-
Wooo! for that acceptance speech opening
-
Sorry Anika Noni gets on my last nerve....thought she was AWFUL in the DREAMGIRLS movie....
-
8 p.m., bk.
-
And I still can't believe Donny Osmond is currently out of Beauty & the Beast, but will be coming back for the closing show. Let the current actor close the run, I say.
-
Another nice speech!
-
110 IN THE SAHDE now.
-
So I guess this is called One Ten in the Shade instead of A Hundred and Ten in the Shade
-
Good choice Featured Actress Musical.
Well if her costar doesn't win best actress, her life will be hell!
-
So I guess this is called One Ten in the Shade instead of A Hundred and Ten in the Shade
I guess....I have been wrong all these decades!
A really nice number though! ;D
-
Well... I like "Rauchy", but I would have preferred one of the ballads.
-
I still think Donny Osmond is groovy.
-
Cute number but I'm not sure it will sell many tickets.
-
Yellow moon....red moon...white moon
I like that effect
-
Well if her costar doesn't win best actress, her life will be hell!
Well, it may end up being a short time in hell, if you get my drift. ;)
-
Sorry, Jose, but I love these bumpers.
-
I want to see Mary Poppins!
-
Wow that gal playing Mary Poppins has a ...uh.... generous mouth.
-
I still think Donny Osmond is groovy.
Yeah... But his forehead is starting to skeeve me out. :P
-
Well, it may end up being a short time in hell, if you get my drift. ;)
So it's a good thing I saw it when I did?
-
I want to see 110!
-
Yeah... But his forehead is starting to skeeve me out. :P
Is it natural?
-
Sorry, Jose, but I love these bumpers.
Like I said a couple of posts back... I'm just not liking the "Law & Order" sound effect into them. In any case, I am appreciating knowing what's coming next.
-
Is it natural?
Yes. Yes, it is.
-
Wow that gal playing Mary Poppins has a ...uh.... generous mouth.
It's sooo huge. And she's not a very good actress, I think.
-
Yes. Yes, it is.
Well, aging happens to the best of us.
-
The numbers this year are already superior to the ones from last year's show.
-
Rebecca and Danny looked nice in the audience. Is he still in Drowsy Chaperone?
-
There's the Hugh Jackman musical Las Vegas show promo.
-
One Ten in The Shade....just doesn't sound right.
-
So it's a good thing I saw it when I did?
<nod>
We'll see what happens over the next couple of days and weeks. I think the producers will try to keep it open as long as they can, but Christine Ebersole will be leaving the show sometime sooner or later - and that's public knowledge, and her departure will more or less determine how much longer the show will run. However, the new advertising campaign is highlighting the scandal and tabloid aspects of the show rather than that short-lived "#1" campaign that featured Ms. Ebersole.
-
It's sooo huge. And she's not a very good actress, I think.
She didn't sound very good in the bumper. :P But I liked Bert!!
-
Nice couple!!
-
Choreogreaphy next.
-
Bebe and DHP...what fun
-
She didn't sound very good in the bumper. :P But I liked Bert!!
Gavin Lee is wonderful!
-
Wow! Big surprise there!
-
The numbers this year are already superior to the ones from last year's show.
Well, better shows, better numbers.
I'm still wondering how the medley for Spring Awakening turned out. We shall see.
-
Dignity always dignity.
Don't forget to thank the Lord!
-
Well, better shows, better numbers.
I'm still wondering how the medley for Spring Awakening turned out. We shall see.
Will it include Totally Bleeped or the Bleep of Living? ;)
-
Dignity always dignity.
Don't forget to thank the Lord!
Gag!
-
Wow! Big surprise there!
Not really. ;)
Having seen all four nominated choreographer's work this season, it really is the only that actually works with, for and in the show. Not a wasted step or gesture.
-
Wow - it's Rainn-ing on Broadway.
-
I wouldn't have recognized Claire Daines.
-
Not really. ;)
Having seen all four nominated choreographer's work this season, it really is the only that actually works with, for and in the show. Not a wasted step or gesture.
Unless someone lands on an audience member, which I've heard has happened
-
Sup. Play actress - I wasn't expecting her to win.
-
That's a pretty dress....is it a two piece thang?
-
Will it include Totally Bleeped or the Bleep of Living? ;)
There were hoping to do "The Bitch of Living" - since they've done it on other shows (talk shows) - but then thought it would be nice to give a sampling of the songs in order to be able to feature everyone in the cast. -Especially since Lea Michele was not nommed. (But I didn't say that. ;))
-
She looks more full figured than when she won the last time.
-
I like the way they have the showcards behind the winners - just for plays? Or musicals, too?
-
Bebe and DHP...what fun
I hear he's quite nice; she's one mean bitch. My dresser neighbor has had several rows with her. Notoriously tough lady.
-

That makes sense, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they put it together
-
Unless someone lands on an audience member, which I've heard has happened
Well, I've seen a Marius roll into the pit. As well as a Rosie roll into the pit too - and not be able to stop laughing for a good five minutes. -And she was just a few feet above my head! :)
-
Mary POPPINS next.
-
Gavin Lee is wonderful...wish he was my chimney sweep ;)
-
So I guess this is called One Ten in the Shade instead of A Hundred and Ten in the Shade
Good musical for our era of global warming.
-
Ah, representing both sets of composers and lyricists for Mary Poppins. I get it!
*Although, I really do wish that "Chim Chim Chiree" was actually presented as a full number in the show, rather than acting as transitional material.
-
It's sooo huge. And she's not a very good actress, I think.
Bigger than Kyra Sedgwick's?
-
Well, I've seen a Marius roll into the pit. As well as a Rosie roll into the pit too - and not be able to stop laughing for a good five minutes. -And she was just a few feet above my head! :)
I have to say sitting on stage, I think it was during The Bitch of Living, it was a bit scary, one of the cast members jumped from the chair in the row above me to the chair next to me and they back up. With those wooden chairs moving a little with each jump it was a bit frightening that he would land on me instead of the chair
-
Ok number, but can't touch the movie's dancing.
I agree that Gavin Lee is great.
-
I hear he's quite nice; she's one mean bitch. My dresser neighbor has had several rows with her. Notoriously tough lady.
I met him and talked to him for about 10 minutes and decided then and there that he was one of the nicest celebrities on the planet.
-
Props to Gavin....I'll take the movie for the rest.....they never "got their knees up".....as it says in the song.
At least Mark and DeeDee listened to the lyrics.
-
Ok number, but can't touch the movie's dancing.
I agree that Gavin Lee is great.
The show doesn't come near the film, and I believe Gavin comes off the best.
-
Wow! One hour in and not a really blah! moment in the whole show so far!
-
Boy,l CBS is really pushing VIVA LAUGHLIN, but I guess the Tony audience would come closest to wanting to see it.
-
All caught up - I knew I could count on you hainsies/kimlets to make posts so good that it was just like being there - this is the LAST time I allow work to interfere with what I want to do.
-
Award nights are national holidays for me.
I went to the national tour of 42nd STREET the night of the Oscars once, and I regretted it ever since, and never let it happen again.
-
Love Hugh Jackman. Wish he were on.
-
I'm wondering if Legally Blonde bought a commercial slot. -Are they allowed to? In any case... If they did, I hope they put together a better commercial. Their current one sucks, very cheap looking - which is surprising since Fox Theatricals has more than enough money to put together a better spot.
-
I've eaten pizza and am happy.
-
Will we never get to page sixty-nine?
-
I hate that I have to wait till eight to watch the fershluganah show.
-
Not enough moments from the plays to make much sense.
-
But your reactions to winners have my curiosity piqued.
-
The director awards are pretty predictable based on how the evening has gone.
-
Wow - Cynthia didn't have time to finish her dress.
-
How did BK catch up so quickly? It took me forever to catch up. :)
-
Welcome, BK!
-
But your reactions to winners have my curiosity piqued.
Isn't that what you wanted? ;)
-
Liev...hubba....
-
Tony #3 for the winner.
-
How did BK catch up so quickly? It took me forever to catch up. :)
Evelyn Wood.
-
Liev...hubba....
I agree, but I've heard he's not a very nice fella.
-
Tony #3 for the winner.
Are you counting the "Creative Tonys" ?
-
Not enough moments from the plays to make much sense.
Ain't it the truth.... :P
-
Are you counting the "Creative Tonys" ?
The winner has won two previous Tonys.
-
The winner has won two previous Tonys.
Got ya, I thought you were referring to the show not the recipient
-
Eddie Izzard is funny.
-
How did BK catch up so quickly?
He doesn't move his lips.
:)
-
What a partay!
-
Eddie looks different without his mascara.
-
Not really surprised about that one.
-
Was that Graham Norton?
-
Paul Kreppel, who was going to play Meltz, must mean Jay Johnson.
-
Eddie Izzard....right....
-
The speeches seem longer than 90 seconds.
-
Oops.. just had to delete a post. :-X
-
They have pretty good people '"hurders"...
-
The speeches seem longer than 90 seconds.
*The music actually starts at 100 seconds.
-
Was that Graham Norton?
Eddie Izzard? He was fantastic!
I've heard nothing about Liev, but I think he's a wonderful actor.
Is Martha Plimpton sitting with her mother Shelly? I wish she'd come up and sng "Frank Mills."
-
I guess we don't have this spoiler problem with the Oscars, huh?
-
I love Sally Fields' ads for Boniva. It sounds like it should be an Ebonic name.
-
*The music actually starts at 100 seconds.
And 10 seconds can make a world of difference.
-
Martha Plimpton is Bill Parry's god-daughter. BK and Bill Parry have some Last starfighter roles in common. Always a Bk connection, as far as I can tell.
-
We've decided to postpone the BLTs and corn on the cob until tomorrow night. Everybody's grazing in our house - I'm having chips, cheese, and Newman's Own Pineapple Salsa (new fav for DS Rob and myself - too spicy for DH Richard)
-
I love pizza.
-
I didn't know Martha belonged to Shelley....I think she should sing AIR.
-
I fixed some squash that someone grew in her home garden.
-
I love Sally Fields' ads for Boniva. It sounds like it should be an Ebonic name.
What makes you think it isn't? :P
-
I love pizza.
And pizza loves you!
-
Well, aging happens to the best of us.
Sadly, even the worst of us.
der Brucer
-
Wow - I was wrong...she looks just like Terry Moore.
-
And 10 seconds can make a world of difference.
Although 90 seconds can be an amazingly long time sometimes. And I've played many an audition to prove that! ;D
-
Actually, aging happens to the luckiest of us.
-
Very funny bit!!!
-
HA!
Even with the bad edit, the joke worked!!
:)
-
Although 90 seconds can be an amazingly long time sometimes. And I've played many an audition to prove that! ;D
LOL
-
Cute gag!
-
Both Tony winners.
-
Eddie Izzard was funny, but inappropriate IMHO to people who don't know that both nominees in Special Event were critically well-received by and large. The nominators didn't have to nominate them if they weren't quality shows.
-
I didn't know Martha belonged to Shelley....I think she should sing AIR.
AIR was sung by Sally Eaton.
-
Whew! I think John Mahoney just got bleeped.
-
Ah... Too bad Jane Krakowski didn't stick with Xanadu.
-
Although 90 seconds can be an amazingly long time sometimes. And I've played many an audition to prove that! ;D
We had a few hymns like that this morning. Oy. I am sure that the visitors will not be returning.
-
Whew! I think John Mahoney just got bleeped.
He was here, too!
-
AIR was sung by Sally Eaton.
I stand corrected. ;D
-
Sandra Gilman was the producer of TALES OF TINSELTOWN when I did the show in 1989 or so in San Diego. Nice lady.
-
Ah, there's how they work in the non-nominated musicals. Clever.
-
Martha Plimpton is Bill Parry's god-daughter. BK and Bill Parry have some Last starfighter roles in common. Always a Bk connection, as far as I can tell.
Martha Plimpton is Keith Carradine's daughter. And Keith Carradine was the star of the last feature I edited.
-
Two time Tony nominee Harry COnnickl, Jr.
-
No surprise with Best Director.
-
Two time Tony nominee Harry COnnickl, Jr.
Why couldn't he be in those pajama bottoms instead of that tux?
:P
-
Ho Hum....
-
Hey, it's the TB guy!
-
Ah... Too bad Jane Krakowski didn't stick with Xanadu.
She probably felt like a ship deserting a sinking rat.
-
Hey, it's the TB guy!
;D
-
LOL....funny director's acceptance speech. Very nice.
-
Yay! for Judy at Carnegie Hall!
-
Beautiful speech.
-
TALK FASTER! TALK SHORTER!!!
-
Patti Lupone introducing COMPANY.
-
If she doesn't mention DR JoseSPiano this time...
-
The winning director is a nice man but he sure goes on. I worked at Williamstown with one of the losing directors who's a moron.
-
Where's her tuba?
-
That's 0 for 2, Miss P!
-
Patti Lupone played Howard Cosell's wife in the TNT move, MONDAY NIGHT MAYHEM. (I did this campaign, too.) John Turturro played Howard C. I was hoping they'd come out and present together!
-
Ooops... The dangers of tracking.
-
OK. Where's the cast/orchestra? If he's performing to a recorded track, that's really tacky!
-
To me COMPANY is the married friends using peer pressure to force a single person to conform to what society expects ...marriage. Is that cynical?
But I love the music
-
Much better, get the camera off the piano keyboard... and his hands. ;)
-
Oh now Raul....wow...for me so far not a patch on Dean Jones.
-
Think we'll skip Company
-
HA!!!
And they've actually filled out the orchestration for "Being Alive"!
-
I have never seen one lip-synch the piano before.
-
I certainly wouldn't want an extreme close-up on my hands under those conditions...
-
I enjoyed that performance more than his work in CHITTY.
-
There is no way I can read all the posts since I signed off last. I scrolled for awhile and gave up. The good news is I can see the posts, and what I'm typing, much better with my new laptop. :D
The keys all feel a bit off & I keep making typo's, & I need to stop pressing the keys so hard ;D. It might take a few days until Keith gets my personal information transferred over & I get used to the new changes. I'm not always keen on changes.
-
That was just weird.
-
OK. Where's the cast/orchestra? If he's performing to a recorded track, that's really tacky!
Well, it's been done before, and it will be done again. :-\
-
HA!!!
And they've actually filled out the orchestration for "Being Alive"!
Bet Patti was playing all those instruments backstage. 8)
Patti and Bernadette....
-
That's fine, DR JANE....just jump in.
-
Think we'll skip Company
Well, unless you come up to NYC a week earlier...
:-X
-
Bet Patti was playing all those instruments backstage. 8)
Patti and Bernadette....
;D ;D
-
I don't know COMPANY. What was the lyric "_____ me with praise"? I'm sure it wasn't what I thought I heard, if they bleeped John Mahoney!
-
I've never heard, to my knowledge, Raul Esparza sing before. My, he does bleat. I love this concept of Bobby as a cocktail pianist. Doyle is such a genius.
-
Patti had to mention herself and SWEENEY. Ugh!
-
Well, it's been done before, and it will be done again. :-\
I know. But given the whole GIMMICK of the production, that's kind of a weird choice, dontcha think?
-
Well, it's been done before, and it will be done again. :-\
Remember last year's number from The Pajama Game? -There was a reason they turned the piano around during Harry's solo.
-
There is no way I can read all the posts since I signed off last. I scrolled for awhile and gave up. The good news is I can see the posts, and what I'm typing, much better with my new laptop. :D
No more small pring!
-
I don't know COMPANY. What was the lyric "_____ me with praise"? I'm sure it wasn't what I thought I heard, if they bleeped John Mahoney!
MOCK!
-
I don't know COMPANY. What was the lyric "_____ me with praise"? I'm sure it wasn't what I thought I heard, if they bleeped John Mahoney!
Mock
-
Oh now Raul....wow...for me so far not a patch on Dean Jones.
Both Mr Jones and Mr Tunick won that round.
-
I don't know COMPANY. What was the lyric "_____ me with praise"? I'm sure it wasn't what I thought I heard, if they bleeped John Mahoney!
"Mock"
-
But, knowing Raul, his subtext could very well be what was bleeped. ;)
-
That's fine, DR JANE....just jump in.
;D If only I had something to add to tonight's discussion. I'm not watching the awards.
-
Is there an echo in here?
;)
-
Hugh Jackman is a TOny AND Emmy winner.
-
Thank you for "mock"-ing me!
-
Wow! One hour in and not a really blah! moment in the whole show so far!
Except for the womens clothes! Frumpy cuts in drab colors covering (barely) saggy tits (except for Patti).
der Brucer
-
Best Play now.
-
Thank you for "mock"-ing me!
I knew others would answer, so I didn't bother.
But in case you didn't quite get it, it's "mock."
;D
-
I'm not watching the awards.
WHAT? :P
:)
-
Did anyone see the marathon of all three parts of Coast of Utopia? FJL, I was thinking you talked about that at one point
-
YEAH! My friend, Jason Butler Harner, finally got "glimpsed" during the montage for The Coast of Utopia!
-
That's the title of my next play...Mocks & Frocks.
-
Mock.
-
I wish these excerpts could be longer.
-
YEAH! My friend, Jason Butler Harner, finally got "glimpsed"
Oh, is THAT what they're calling it these days?
-
Well, bad news for me. The Tony Awards start in 15 minutes, and DH just came out and asked for the remote control. Apparently there is basketball finals tonight. DH rarely asks to watch the tv.
-
Except for the womens clothes! Frumpy cuts in drab colors covering (barely) saggy tits (except for Patti).
I want some dopey showgirls in gooey gowns!
-
Ah... Best Revival of a Play... The clips were just a preview of sorts.
-
Cilla - Skip saw all three parts of COAST OF UTOPIA. I thought about seeing the marathon, and I think we talked about that when you were here, but I decided against it when the seats were crappy.
-
I like Felicity's Dress
-
OK...we worked with Sam Waterson doing TNT promos. I don't have anything good to say about him, although I like his acting sometimes.
-
I think that lessens the impact of the Best Play award.
-
Thanks FJL, I was just wondering. It would have been a real experience
-
If they "enhanced" the Company orchestrations that is completely reprehensible! Company is what it is and how DARE them try to hide that fact.
-
That award won't do the show much good.
-
That's a sweet thing to happen today for the Best Revival of a Play
-
So the show was in 3 parts? Well, guess I"ll never get to see THAT!
-
Hugh Dancy is so gorgeous.
-
How about those red plaid pants!
-
Whoa! An anti-war speech!
-
Where is Pitt Pitt Pittsburgh?
Nice play revival choice.
-
Who let the giraffe onstage?
-
Aww... Great closing of the acceptance speech.
-
Oh my this will be sad.
-
This part always makes me cry...
-
How about those red plaid pants!
*Perk*
-
Tommy tune looks great!
-
Ooops... Well... Oh, nevermind... thought they started the death roll early... or did they?
:-\
-
Tommy Tune should not be singing soft ballads now.
-
Oh my this will be sad.
Too bad it wasn't.
-
Tommy Tune in red plaid pants?
-
I thought they could have done a better job with the "In memoriam" they didn't list everyone and most of them were hard to read
-
I thought they could have done a better job with the "In memoriam" they didn't list everyone and most of them were hard to read
My thoughts exactly.
-
Yes, kinda short for a memorial roll.....guess not too many people keeled over this year.
-
Tommy Tune in red plaid pants?
No, there isn't enough fabric in New York...
-
The last time I saw a photograph of Mr. Tune he looked like Carol Channing.
-
Tommy Tune in red plaid pants?
If he wasn't in mourning he would have worn the jacket that matches. ;D
-
I was sort of surprised that Boyd Gaines didn't go ahead and shave off his moustache after his closing matinee. I mean, he won't need for Gypsy, I don't think.
What will he be playing in GYPSY?
-
I thought they could have done a better job with the "In memoriam" they didn't list everyone and most of them were hard to read
I agree. I did catch my dear friend Barney Hughes. What a sweet man! Betty Comden was wonderful, too, but I loved Adolph Green.
-
Is THE APPLE TREE going to have a segment?
-
I want some dopey showgirls in gooey gowns!
Well one of the acceptors for best revival of a play sure added some color - looks like something from my closet!
der Brucer
-
Hmmmm...things seem to have gone awry in giving the car away. My DH just called; he's being taken out to dinner by the person who was supposed to be getting the car and asked me to meet them. I told him I was watching the Tonys, so he's going to bring me dinner, but it will be after they have dinner, so very late.
The bad thing is, the car didn't end up at the guy's house, but in the driveway of our other house, and he couldn't tell me why at the moment. Oh well...
-
What will he be playing in GYPSY?
The trumpet.
;)
Actually, Herbie.
-
What will he be playing in GYPSY?
Herbie.
-
What will he be playing in GYPSY?
The eggroll.
-
Two hours in...I am starting to get tired...
-
How long does it last?
-
This is now our fourth highest posting day and it is only seven o'clock. It already is our highest Tony Awards Do day.
-
The death roll was not well-done. They should have established Tommy Tune, let him start singing, and then go to a full screen angle on all the people who've passed on. As it was, the shot was so wide that you couldn't read them.
-
Jane Krakowski back again?
-
The trumpet.
To quote DR elmore3003: BLOW, GABRIEL, BLOW!
-
Hmmmm...things seem to have gone awry in giving the car away. My DH just called; he's being taken out to dinner by the person who was supposed to be getting the car and asked me to meet them. The bad thing is, the car didn't end up at the guy's house, but in the driveway of our other house, and he couldn't tell me why at the moment. Oh well...
Is there a lien against it? ;)
You could always go the route I'm going right now, and go through one of those car donation services. *And I'm very happy and proud to say, that I'm donating my car in 'honor' of WCVE in Richmond - THE best public radio station ever!! :)
-
What time did the awards start in NY?
-
The trumpet.
Well, if you wanna bump it...
-
Is Tommy Tune the spokesperson for dead people now?
-
Nope, no APPLE TREE segment. Darn!
-
What time did the awards start in NY?
8:00pm. -I thought someone said they were starting at 7:00 in LA? ???
-
No surprise with that winner.
-
WHOA!!!!!
That was a shock. Sort of.
-
Musical revival....I don't know what to say....
-
I thought all nominated shows got to perform. Kristen probably nixed it is my guess.
-
Is Tommy Tune the spokesperson for dead people now?
He was tonight.
-
DR JoseSPiano...
Belated CONGRATS on completing your FIRST ACL on Broadway!!! :)
Oh, I doubt that is his first chorus line.
-
Is Tommy Tune the spokesperson for dead people now?
He is the James Van Pragh of Broadway. ;D
-
No surprise and a shock - hmmm.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
6 Tonys on that stage between the two of them.
-
Nope, show starts at eight here - seven in Arizona.
-
Is there a lien against it? ;)
You could always go the route I'm going right now, and go through one of those car donation services. *And I'm very happy and proud to say, that I'm donating my car in 'honor' of WCVE in Richmond - THE best public radio station ever!! :)
No...he's had it since before he had me. But it's been at our mechanics' for years and they needed the room. He was hoping to find someone who would restore it...the body's in perfect condition, just needs a new engine. I'm glad he's parting with it since we've been paying insurance this whole time.
The owner of the Mexican restaurant in our new neighborhood will take it if this guy doesn't. I was hoping Juan would get it, anyway, since he has a Trooper from the same year.
-
Awww... Raul Esparza is sitting with his wife. His ex-wife, I guess. But, still, that actually is very nice to see.
-
Leading play Actress.
-
Swoozie and Jane K have sparkly dresses!
-
I thought all nominated shows got to perform. Kristen probably nixed it is my guess.
If the show was still running, they would have performed.
-
Love it!
-
Nice ovation for the winner! Wow!
-
Best Actress in a Play must be a hell of a lot better than she was in that clip!
-
SORT OF TONY SPOILER
YEAH!!!! It's nice to know the Tony Voters have a long memory.
-
"I can't feel my hands, is that a bad thing" LOL
-
Best Actress in a Play must be a hell of a lot better than she was in that clip!
I thought the same thing, DR JRand.
-
AARRGGHH!! I'm gone one day for rehearsals and I have 33 pages to catch up with! Can I do it??
-
Someone's had too much caffeine.
-
Take a valium, girlfriend.
-
SORT OF TONY SPOILER
YEAH!!!! It's nice to know the Tony Voters have a long memory.
Same thing happened with Michelle Pawk in HOLLYWOOD ARMS a few years ago.
-
Play her off!!
-
Matt Cavanaugh is so cute.
-
GREY GARDENS coming up.
-
Oh nice intro for GREY GARDENS.
-
I wonder if there will be any brou-ha-ha over the producers of the Best Revival of a Musical being cut off. And think there were still a few seconds left too.
-
Oh HI!
I'm getting ready for a revolutionaly costume...
-
Play her off!!
Damn just get the hook! And she takes a bow, too! ;D
-
Ellen /Martin Scorsese commercial funny.
-
Musical revival....I don't know what to say....
They all look like crap.
-
There is always brouhaha....
-
Cavenaugh.
-
There's a commercial for the film musical of HAIRSPRAY.
-
Does Matt play that guy that comes to work at the house in GREY GARDENS?
-
Cavenaugh.
You've joined the internet spelling police, Jose?
-
That's Suzanne Hilferty. I think it's a very sweet speech and sentiment, dedication.
*And she also designed Lestat - and received a Tony nomination too for her work on that show.
One of the twelve they didn't win!
-
Lucky for me, DH decided he isn't really interested in the basketball game, since the Suns aren't in the finals.
It is beginning here in Arizona.
-
John Travolta looks...Divine!
-
Cavenaugh.
Gesundheit.
-
I thought the same thing, DR JRand.
Well, too bad they couldn't show one of the actors from that play. If you get my drift. :P
-
A mere fifty minutes until show time.
-
I can't believe so many commercials for VIVA LAUGHLIN.
-
THE PIRATE QUEEN looked like a first class deep dish boiled and fried turkey.
-
You've joined the internet spelling police, Jose?
;)
Well... Since my name has been mangled more times than I care to remember in programs and Playbills...
-
Best Actress in a Play must be a hell of a lot better than she was in that clip!
She was quite wonderful. I thought she'd get a nomination, but I also thought the play would have a long run.
-
And I do hope our East Coast contingent doesn't just up and leave as we begin our West Coast commentary.
-
Well, too bad they couldn't show one of the actors from that play. If you get my drift. :P
I saw that video clip. ;D
Now I am completely AGAINST watching this Las Vegas show....
-
So was that last speech spontaneous or carefully crafted in advance, just in case? :)
-
Thanks for sharing the pictures, DR George!
You're welcome. I've really enjoyed going to the games...surprisingly. :)
-
Well, too bad they couldn't show one of the actors from that play. If you get my drift. :P
Oh, yes!
-
Does Matt play that guy that comes to work at the house in GREY GARDENS?
In one of the acts.
-
She was quite wonderful. I thought she'd get a nomination, but I also thought the play would have a long run.
It opened this week in Indianapolis....I did some music for it....but don't much else about the production. ;D
-
In one of the acts.
Then THAT is my favorite act. 8)
-
JERSEY BOYS has been a consistent sellout, so I guess this is for the tour.
-
So they have time for this, but not for Legally Blonde?
-
And I do hope our East Coast contingent doesn't just up and leave as we begin our West Coast commentary.
Exactly my intention.
-
Only four GUESTS - I know there's something to say about that, and the fact that we have twenty-six GUESTS occasionally for something as mundane as the changing of the notes - well, I shan't say it.
-
Exactly my intention.
Then you shall be BRAINED.
-
;)
Well... Since my name has been mangled more times than I care to remember in programs and Playbills...
So has mine, and it's only five letters.
-
Then THAT is my favorite act. 8)
He plays Joseph Kennedy Jr in the other act
-
So they have time for this, but not for Legally Blonde?
I read in VARIETY the producers of the nominated musicals protested against LEGALLY BLONDE getting a spot.
-
Like Jersey Boys needs any more help at the Box Office?
-Or are they lobbying for a ticket price increase? I mean, their normal top price is now $125 (as opposed to $110), and they sell ALL their Premium Seats ($300-400).
Oh, it's the presentation of the Creative Arts Awards.
-Well... The tag was, well...forced. ;) :-\
-
TIME AFTER TIME is one of my Top Five films of all time. I have never really loved Mary Steenburgen (I will leave that to Mr. Danson), but in this film she is delightful. Malcolm McDowell has never been more endearing, and David Warner is pretty darn sexy for a murder suspect. This is one of those rare films that I never tire of watching.
I, too, love this movie!
-
Best Actor in a PLay.
-
Oh, the Tony people change the rules every year for everything. There is no consistency to anything they decide on.
-
No surprise with that winner.
-
No surprise there
-
Hate the Best Actor Play choice.
-
-Well... The tag was, well...forced.
As in forced hot air heating?
-
He plays Joseph Kennedy Jr in the other act
Ahhhhhhhhhh.....then THAT'S my favorite act. ;D
-
Sit down and shut up. Or vice versa.
-
Very nice speech.
-
The speech ended three times.....
-
I read in VARIETY the producers of the nominated musicals protested against LEGALLY BLONDE getting a spot.
Yep, they did. However, there's also a bit of tradition, for better or worse, of only presenting numbers from the nominated musicals.
Of course, Fantasia has yet to sing tonight.
-
Patrick Wilson looks very nice tonight.
-
I thought the way they "snuck" the LEGALLY BLONDE extended clip-fest in was quite clever and should sell some tickets.
-
GREY GARDEN scene now.
-
Sit down and shut up. Or vice versa.
You don't seem to be liking any of the speeches tonight, DR Jrand. ;)
-
Spoo. Wardrobe malfunction.
-
Patrick Wilson looks very nice tonight.
He always looks nice. And he looks very nice in the previews for the upcoming movie, "Evening". -Especially when his shirt is being taken off. :)
-
They allowed an extended Legally Blonde clip-fest? Then why not just DO the damn number live? It's all so game-playing.
-
A mere forty minutes to show time.
-
Really loving this GREY GARDENS song...
-
I thought the way they "snuck" the LEGALLY BLONDE extended clip-fest in was quite clever and should sell some tickets.
Agreed. But haven't they always tried to sneak in clips from the "other ones" when possible?
In any case... That was a much better number than a snippet of "Omigod, you guys".
-
The two shows today were both plagued with the usual sound problems, which I didn't think would be the case, since our run-through the other day had excellent sound. Someday, it will be right.
-
I have to say she's an exact copy of the real thing from the documentary. I enjoyed that song.
-
You don't seem to be liking any of the speeches tonight, DR Jrand. ;)
Easier to comment on those than the others....but scroll....back there have been a few "nice speech" posts from moi. ;D
-
I have to say he's an exact copy of the real thing from the documentary.
It sure is!
-
Hey, they said "bitch!"
-
A mere thirty-nine minutes until show time.
-
Maybe he should have shared the costume Tony with Edie Beale and Little Edie.
-
They also did extended clips from LOVEMUSIK, though, but I don't think that repped that show well enough to help sales.
-
Hey, they said "bitch!"
I didn't know Bernadette was on already. :P
-
Watching the Tonys with me is not convincing DH Richard to see either Grey Gardens or Spring Awakening.
-
They allowed an extended Legally Blonde clip-fest? Then why not just DO the damn number live? It's all so game-playing.
They did one for THE PIRATE QUEEN, too. But it wasn't really extended. Maybe 30 seconds.
-
DR Singdaw, that wasn't a wardrobe malfunction, it was a revolutionary costume for today
-
I suppose the FCC will now fine CBS broadcasting ZILLIONS of dollars for corrupting the public good.
-
I didn't remember that hanging snap, but perhaps that was intentional.
-
I will personally sue those bastards at CBS. I am CORRUPTED, I tell you!
-
Sure are a lot of commercials....
-
Let's see, we still have both leading musical acting awards, and both best show awards. And more than half an hour to get to them. Of course, se still have the SPRING AWAKENING segment.
-
I have to say she's an exact copy of the real thing from the documentary. I enjoyed that song.
As I said before she does an amazing Little Edie and that character is vastly different from the Big Edie she does in the first act. I really think she deserves to win...
-
And Fantasia.
-
And Fantasia.
Oh, yes, forgot about her.
-
I am stunned by this impersonation....and she really seems to be doing a complete Edie....not the actor's interpretation (we didn't watch the tapes) of FROST/NIXON.
-
Oh yes you are, Captain!! I mean, Fraulein.
-
I've been in and out, doing laundry...did they do the segment yet on on-stage seating?
-
I had a little too much pizza.
-
They did one for THE PIRATE QUEEN, too. But it wasn't really extended. Maybe 30 seconds.
Well, it's closing next Sunday, so...
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Best Play
-
No surprise there. How many did that show win in all?
-
I predict: I have no idea.
-
They also did extended clips from LOVEMUSIK, though, but I don't think that repped that show well enough to help sales.
And I was surprised they didn't feature Ms. Murphy singing either.
-
But, given the earlier sweep, perhaps something to do with a Coast.
-
I've been in and out, doing laundry...did they do the segment yet on on-stage seating?
No, I wonder if it was something that played in RCMH during the commercials...
-
Very nice speech from Best Play author.... So there, DR JOSE.
-
Will we never get to page thirty-eight?
-
Well, there better at least 15 pages of posts from the West Coast contingent about the Tonys. That's all I'm sayin'!
-
What was the name of that song from GREY GARDENS?
-
Will we never get to page thirty-eight?
You have to ask? Of course.
-
No, I wonder if it was something that played in RCMH during the commercials...
Ah! That makes sense.
-
No, I wonder if it was something that played in RCMH during the commercials...
I believe you are correct.
And it should be on BroadwayWorld.com soon, if it's not already.
-At least that's what I've heard.
But I also heard it might have been included in the CBS-2 Tony preview show.
-
Only musical stuff from now on!
-
SPRING AWAKENING now.
-
Uh oh...looks like a SPRING AWAKENING lip synch number.
-
We will pull our weight, and believe me it will be easy after six pieces of pizza.
-
Sing it, Lea!
OH! And there was Remy Zaken!
*And she wasn't at Joe Allen, bk. ;)
-
broadwayworld.com - don't get me started.
-
What was the name of that song from GREY GARDENS?
Revolutionary Costume for Today...I think
-
I made Remy Zaken a STAR!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Sixty Minutes is doing a piece on Barry Diller - I really do not care for him.
-
HAA!!!! LET THE BLEEPING BEGIN!!!!!!!!
-
They said, "Bitch!"
-
A mere twenty-five minutes to show time.
-
Bleeeeeep
-
Well, that was cute. Sort of.
:-X
-
I have to say SPRING AWAKENING was a bit underwhelming to me. Perhaps some of the other music is better.
-
But they covered their mouths on F----- and A--
-
I gotta tell you.
-
They said, "Bitch!"
But they didn't saw "Ass" or "F-cked"!
But they didn't get bleeped either. They just didn't say it. :)
-
Revolutionary Costume for Today...I think
Thanks.
Well SPRING AWAKENING looked good, but it's just not anything I'm interested in....too many years ago for me.... :P
And after awhile music like that just becomes noise to me. 8)
-
I have to say SPRING AWAKENING was a bit underwhelming to me. Perhaps some of the other music is better.
Not really
-
I have to say SPRING AWAKENING was a bit underwhelming to me. Perhaps some of the other music is better.
Not the most ideal presentation. And it seemed on the short side too.
-
Not a bad way to "cover" the no no words.
-
Not the most ideal presentation. And it seemed on the short side too.
Don't you hate it when that happens? ;D
-
I didn't much like the sequence but I like the SA recording and I really want to see the show. I remember I didn't like the RENT sequence either and I love the show.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I think of all the things I have seen so far, I want the GREY GARDENS cast CD. I have SPRING AWAKENING.
-
When I rewatch this entire show during this week, maybe I'll see it differently.
-
http://www.greygardensthemusical.com/ (http://www.greygardensthemusical.com/) JRand, if you go to this link, you can hear several of the songs, starting with Revolutionary Costume for Today
-
I gotta tell you.
Tell us what?
-
The posts are going so fast it's hard to keep up
Tell me about it! I'm only up to Page 13!! :-\
-
Fantasia up now.
-
I don't think Cielie looks like that in the show.
-
Wow! Fantasia looks and sounds great!!
Even with braces.
-
OH! That's how they're working Fantasia and The Color Purple in. I get it!
-Of course, she sang this song on "American Idol"... Oh... but it appears it's been truncated.
-
http://www.greygardensthemusical.com/ (http://www.greygardensthemusical.com/) JRand, if you go to this link, you can hear several of the songs, starting with Revolutionary Costume for Today
THANKS!!!! ;D
-
I have caught up on the first twenty+ pages of posts, but I am afraid I will be E & T from the West Coast Tony Party. I have got to take my pain meds and go to bed.
Good night.
-
A mere fifteen minutes to go - the time, I must say, is not flying, unlike the rest of every fershluganah day this year. I gotta tell you.
-
Well, she seems to fit the role well.
-
6
Tonys between the two of them.
-
Wow! There's a real surprise of the evening.
-
Actor Musical.....good choice....
-
Best actor OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I just applauded the winner here in my own living room. Really I did!
-
Uh oh - the real surprise of the evening!
-
And I won't know what it is until eleven.
-
Well, all those exclamation points from Cillaliz would lead me to believe...
-
I just applauded the winner here in my own living room. Really I did!
So did I....oh So did I.... ;D
-
My favorite acceptance speech of the evening!
-
A mere ten minutes until show time. How come every other day of this year time has flown by like a gazelle in a hair suit, but the last two hours have positively CRAWLED by like a snail in garlic.
-
POSSIBLE TONY SPOILER
Did he just out himself? -Well, at least to the people who didn't know.
-
Usher just because he did a curtailed run in CHICAGO.
-
Yeahhhhh!
-
POSSIBLE TONY SPOILER
Did he just out himself? -Well, at least to the people who didn't know.
I think he made a statement about himself in the last month or so.
-
After what I saw tonight....I will say bravo to that choice for Best Actress Musical.
-
No surprise there.
-
Oh she stole Ruth Gordon's joke in her acceptance speech.
-
Had to play her off!
-
I think he made a statement about himself in the last month or so.
I've seen statements in the past..a number of years ago as well as recently
-
I gotta tell you.

Oh she stole Ruth Gordon's joke in her acceptance speech.
That's right! I thought it sounded familiar.
-
Nice speech....nice dress.....wrong body for the dress...and wrong hair....but other than that......
-
So it is spoken, so it shall be done - page thirty-nine. Boy, the errant and truant will be a little cowed by the number of pages.
-
I've seen statements in the past..a number of years ago as well as recently
OK. Well, I guess since I knew, I never read the interviews. ;)
-
So... What is everyone eating right now? What is your Tony Awards knosh?
Mine: An Everything Bagel from H&H, with Spicy Hummus.
I had some cheese melted on corn chips and left-over meatloaf at my sister's house. That'll keep me for quite a while. :)
(I'm now caught up to Page 22! ;))
-
Ruth Gordon won best actress in a musical? Excellent! How did she look?
-
I've seen statements in the past..a number of years ago as well as recently
He was also on the cover of THE ADVOCATE or OUT in the last few months as one of the most influential gays in the business.
-
Yes it is old news even to those of us in Indiana.
DR JOSE did you get my ACL souvenir book today?
-
So it is spoken, so it shall be done - page thirty-nine. Boy, the errant and truant will be a little cowed by the number of pages.
Well, there's a least four pages worth of just "I gotta tell you.", so....
;D
-
Ruth Gordon won best actress in a musical? Excellent! How did she look?
A little the worse for wear.
-
I DVR'd the two hour TONY pre-show on CBS earlier this morning but have not had time to watch it yet...
Singday, what is this?? I didn't know about it. :( Can you make me a copy??
-
Ruth Gordon won best actress in a musical? Excellent! How did she look?
Inanimate. 8)
-
OK. Well, I guess since I knew, I never read the interviews. ;)
Some of us in the middle of nowhere have to live vicariously through friends like you and interviews... ;)
-
I gotta tell you.
Are you tawkin' to me?
-
Well, I guess since I knew
Would that be from PERSONAL experience? ;)
-
A mere five minutes until show time. Andy Rooney is droning away - how long has he been droning now - about forty years?
-
Well, there's a least four pages worth of just "I gotta tell you.", so....
;D
So very true.
-
Yes it is old news even to those of us in Indiana.
DR JOSE did you get my ACL souvenir book today?
Oh, would you like a Souvenir book? OK - I think I'm back next weekend. *And I get it staff rate too! Half price! Do you want a t-shirt too?
*Although, my favorite piece of show merchandise right now is the Trekkie Monster hand-puppet from Avenue Q. And the staff rate for that is just $13.00. Not bad!
-
Some of us in the middle of nowhere have to live vicariously through friends like you and interviews... ;)
Ain't that the truth?
-
what is this?? I didn't know about it. :( Can you make me a copy??
I believe it was only broadcast in the local NY markets.
Yes, certainly! :)
-
Best Musical? No surprise there
-
Well, I suppose I shall toddle off to the TV room now.
-
I just have a feeling that this will become a period piece very quickly.
-
Singday, what is this?? I didn't know about it. :( Can you make me a copy??
It was done by the New York City CBS affiliate.
-
I believe it was only broadcast in the local NY markets.
Yes, certainly! :)
The NY1 "Road to the Tonys" was pretty good this year too. No fumbling announcers.
-
Ruth Gordon won best actress in a musical? Excellent! How did she look?
Pretty good but the hair is all wrong according to most! ;D
-
I believe it was only broadcast in the local NY markets.
Yes, certainly! :)
Me too?

Oh, would you like a Souvenir book? OK - I think I'm back next weekend. *And I get it staff rate too! Half price! Do you want a t-shirt too?

Oh.....the book and the LARGEST size t-shirt they have. I can put the money in your PAYPAL account if you give me a total. ;D
-
Winner of 8 TOnys!
Same as HAIRSPRAY and SWEENEY TODD.
-
Yep, it does look like every single producer is up on that stage.
-
Play off............................
-
Good show.
-
DR JOSE send me an email with a total!
-
Me too?
No problem.
-
Oh.....the book and the LARGEST size t-shirt they have. I can put the money in your PAYPAL account if you give me a total. ;D
The t-shirt is red... with sparkly lettering. :-\ However, there's supposed to be a new design out in a few weeks. In black.
-
Whew time for a shower!
-
It's starting...and I'm only on Page 25! AARRGGHH!!
;)
-
Yes, overall, they did a nice job with the show this year.
-
DR JOSE send me an email with a total!
Once I get a total, I will e-mail you one.
-
The t-shirt is red... with sparkly lettering. :-\ However, there's supposed to be a new design out in a few weeks. In black.
Yikes....I think I will wait for the black t shirt....thanks! I believe in advertising but not ADVERTISING!!!
-
Good show, not great show. It did make me wish I could see at least two of the new musicals.
-
Once I get a total, I will e-mail you one.
;D
My friend!
-
Good show, not great show. It did make me wish I could see at least two of the new musicals.
Same here! At least two....
-
Yes, overall, they did a nice job with the show this year.
And if all goes according to plan(s), I should be back at next year's ceremony one way or another. :)
-
... with sparkly lettering.
We like sparkly.
-
No problem.
Thanks!!
-
My God! Thomas Hulce! I kept hearing the name, but I didn't recognize him for a minute! And I barely recognized Marsha Mason sitting next to Jack O'Brien.
I've just modified this post and removed any give-aways...though its probably too late now! Ah...gee...gosh...sorry!
-
Yikes....I think I will wait for the black t shirt....thanks! I believe in advertising but not ADVERTISING!!!
And Avenue Q will also be getting some new merchandise too soon. -They're going to be altering the logo for the NYC show, and all the "old" merchandise will be going on the road.
-
My God! Thomas Hulce! I kept hearing the name, but I didn't recognize him for a minute! And I barely recognized Marsha Mason sitting next to Jack O'Brien.
Yeah, !@#!@#!@#!@#[/s]! Yeah, !@#!@#!@#!! Yeah, !@#$% !@#!@#!@#! who is brilliant in !@#$%^&!@# and still a class act. What a wonderful speech he gave!
SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER![/size]
-
I wish the Tonys could end with a bang, not a whimper. We get vamp music warning a winner he's going to be cut off. Why not a big rousing show number!
-
I wish the Tonys could end with a bang, not a whimper. We get vamp music warning a winner he's going to be cut off. Why not a big rousing show number!
Absolutely agree...
-
Well, that was fun.
Hey...let's do it all AGAIN...
-
Near-casualty of Tony night - I spilled some pineapple salsa on our laptop, but I don't think it did any permament damage.
-
Best Play winner won 7 awards in all.
-
SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER![/size]
I thought the same thing! And *WE* were all so careful.

However, if it had been some OTHER kind of salsa...well!

I thought the same thing! And *WE* were all so careful.
And I was thinking this!

Whew! I think John Mahoney just got bleeped.
Well, I heard ia G - D in Delaware!

DR Charles Pogue - "Rosebud" is a sled.

Now I'm remembering Ann Miller closing out the ceremony with "The Best of Times".... :-\

Wow - Cynthia didn't have time to finish her dress.
Indeed.
I'm still back on page 27.
-
Well....it has started in the West. Where are all the posts?
-
I went back and listened to the acceptance speech and it was "And my partner, Brian, because it's 24 years of listening to your damn notes, that's why I'm up here"
-
I really wasn't unhappy with any of the winners I was familiar with from seeing them on various talk shows over the past season. Seems like deserving folks got them (but equally deserving folks didn't. I think they have really strong line-ups in these categories this year, much better than in some years.)
-
Been together 24 years. Quite a tribute to them.
-
Oh now Raul....wow...for me so far not a patch on Dean Jones.
You can say that again! He's a male Patti Lapone.
der Brucer
-
Well, it's been fun, folks, reading all your posts. Like Oscar night, though, it's just impossible to keep up.
And if I ever need advice on a dress or a hair style, I know of several H/Ks to ask!
Good night, HHW!
-
Well, I'm heading down for bed.
I very much enjoyed the Tony party. Hope the West Coasters enjoy theirs equally as much.
Good night!
-
You can say that again! He's a male Patti Lapone.
der Brucer
Raul's voice is definitely an acquired taste. However, having seen him in a couple of things, his acting prowess is truly awe-inspiring.
-
Oh she stole Ruth Gordon's joke in her acceptance speech.
She's soooooo humble. NOT!!
-
Okay, Marvin Hamlisch - what!
Okay, just do all of One or none of One.
Okay, who WRITES this crap that these poor people have to read?
So far, I'm two for two.
-
Getting up in 4.5 hours and going to the gym...good night!
-
Already with the five minute commercial breaks.
-
The two acceptance speeches thus far were VERY long - Crudup and the Spring Awakening kid. And someone should shoot all the little groupies who were brought in to cheer.
-
Good show, not great show. It did make me wish I could see at least two of the new musicals.
Well, I told you to come and join us at the end of the month!
-
Did I give something away? Aren't the Tonys live out on the West Coast? Sorry, If I spoiled any secrets...though God knows, the answers were pretty obvious from the get go!

Someone's not reading The Notes.
;)
-
Thomas Hulce---is that Tom Hulce from AMADEUS?
-
I had to go have pizza with my DH and the guy who is taking the car to avoid them coming here to our hot, non-airconditioned house.
The car A/C felt so good!
And I had two pieces of pizza, which was 1 piece too much,
-
Someone's not reading The Notes.
;)
No...someone wasn't, someone was watching the show.
-
Thomas Hulce---is that Tom Hulce from AMADEUS?
The very same...and the voice of Quasimoto in Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." :)
-
So I guess I'll go to the Tony website and see what I missed!
-
Thomas Hulce---is that Tom Hulce from AMADEUS?
A rather hostile old queen who rages at folk who mention ANIMAL HOUSE?
-
Damn it! I missed Best Actor in a Musical!
-
And speaking of Ms. LuPone...
Here she is with the National Symphony at the July 4th Concert at the US Capitol. -I don't think this was the same year that Leslie Uggams appeared. ;) In any case...
She sings two songs from Anything Goes. At the top of the second number, well, let's just say she's not happy with Mr. Mancini's tempo. *I just remember watching this live, and being scared for Mr. Mancini. At least it seemed that way to me at that time. And on a bigger screen.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SHb6fcsh03g
-
A rather hostile old queen who rages at folk who mention ANIMAL HOUSE?
And erstwhile co-star with our own BK in Forget-Me-Not Lane!
-
I wonder if there will be any brou-ha-ha over the producers of the Best Revival of a Musical being cut off. And think there were still a few seconds left too.
Not only cut-off - the camera lingered a moment on them with the mike killed, and then cut to a back-stage shot of them from the rear presumably still accepeting!
But the did bring the show in on time!
der Brucer
-
Now if I can just get a hold of Julie Andrew's "Winter Into Spring" special. I have to see her doing "At the Ballet" again!
-
Jose, you'll have to forgive me...I've never done the Haineshisway Tony orgy from this side of the country before.
BK, Expect a lot more five minute commercial breaks. Just think, if we had normal commercial breaks we might have gotten to see the designers accept their awards or even excerpts from nominated plays.
-
Okay, what ARE these little "teases" into numbers that are then done later?
Okay, I have not missed anything yet.
Okay, Show People just confirms to me what a mediocre choreographer Rob Ashford is.
Okay, it was nice to see my pal Rupe.
-
You realize that could have been 4 posts, right?
-
And just where is the iPhone - it's June and I'm on the list, baby.
-
Jose, you'll have to forgive me...I've never done the Haineshisway Tony orgy from this side of the country before.

Ce ne fait rien.
There's nothing to forgive.
As I stated early on, it's not my fault they live in the wrong time zone. ;)
-
And this pandering to B'way people who are much more known for their film and TV work so that home audiences might give a crap is offensive.
-
Of course, I'm not sure if the West Coasters who have not seen the ceremony yet will forgive you, DR Pogue. ;)
-
Back to the show.
-
Is this guy from Company piano-synching?
-
This is the second highest posting day so far
-
Now if I can just get a hold of Julie Andrew's "Winter Into Spring" special. I have to see her doing "At the Ballet" again!
You're confusing her "One Step Into Spring" with Leslie Uggams and her show with Noureev, where she sang that song! I think...
-
Yes, the teases are a bit of a waste. We know they're going to do the numbers; use that valauble time for something else.
Seeing pal Ian Richardson among the deceased gave me a lump in the throat. I also met critic Henry Hewes once...in Odessa, Texas, of all places he had come to see a play I was in about actress Julie Haydon and critic George Jean Nathan (circa 1974)
-
The very same...and the voice of Quasimoto in Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." :)
Quasimodo. :)
-
And erstwhile co-star with our own BK in Forget-Me-Not Lane!
They mentioned his name in the nominations, I think, and showed a shot of some folks in the audience but nobody I saw looked like the Tom Hulce I remember.
-
You're confusing her "One Step Into Spring" with Leslie Uggams and her show with Noureev, where she sang that song! I think...
Hmm... I guess so. I guess I'm just not remembering the correct title.
But I remember seeing a clip of Julie Andrews singing "At The Ballet" as a solo. With two male dancers. :)
However, I don't think I knew about Leslie Uggams and Nureyev!
-
Is this guy from Company piano-synching?
Don't think so...This COMPANY was directed by the same guy who did the SWEENY TODD where the actors are also the musicians and he's applied to same concept here...but the guy may be syncing just for tonight, I don't know...
-
Hmmm.... CUTE baseball player on the CBS-2 right now.
:)
-
I have a question. Is this new "Company" done like "Sweeney Todd" -- with the actors playing the band instruments?
-
AND I missed John Turturro. How did he do?
That pizza was NOT worth it!
-
Quasimodo. :)
My apologies. :-[
-
I have a question. Is this new "Company" done like "Sweeney Todd" -- with the actors playing the band instruments?
Yes...same director.
-
LOL - I must have been typing my post while DR Pogue was typing his. He beat me.
-
Supporing Actress in a Musical...LOVED her speech!! ;D
-
BK, did you know I won a Tony tonight? ;D ;D ;D
-
So, is that his gimmick? The actors play the instruments in his shows?
-
Why is Jud Hirsch wearing sunglasses?
-
So, is that his gimmick? The actors play the instruments in his shows?
Not all of his shows.
-
Why is Jud Hirsch wearing sunglasses?
That's his gimmick.

Hmmmmm...imdb says that Tom Hulce lives in Seattle and has been married for over 10 years and has a daughter. That's nice that he can live there and still produce a hit Broadway musical.
But I never would have recognized him...
-
I believe it was only broadcast in the local NY markets.
Yes, certainly! :)

Ooooh. The red plaid pants.
-
How about those red plaid pants!
I second that.
-
That is quite a fashion statement.
-
Tom Hulce as Quasimodo also sang two of Skip's songs (one a solo, the other a duet with Haley Joel Osment) in the Disney sequel HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME PART II.
It even says so on the imdb - well, it does now anyway. :)
-
Okay, Mary Louise Wilson is a class act and a real Broadway vet and gal. What a breath of fresh air between all the whining and emotion.
-
Joshie is trying to climb on my lap. Trouble is, there's a laptop on my lap.
-
Mr. Hulse...
-
But not for long.
-
Okay, I will say it again - I'm the one person who just doesn't "get" Audra. I HATED Raunchy in just about every way you could hate a number - Tunick's lousy orchestrations (nowhere near as good as Hershey Kay's originals), and Audra's inability to be humorous. And the staging was just terrible. And why do that number, when no one in the home viewing audience has a clew as to what the HELL the show's about and who Lizzie is - just do her "I want" song and be done with it. A complete backfire.
-
I haven't missed calling any award yet.
-
Joshie is trying to climb on my lap. Trouble is, there's a laptop on my lap.
I read that as Jose.
My lovecat Bailey is doing the same.
-
Tom Hulce no longer even resembles Tom Hulce.
-
Welcome twenty-five GUESTS! Guess they finally showed up when they all collectively realized this is the ONLY place to be.
-
However, I don't think I knew about Leslie Uggams and Nureyev!
Oh they were an item for a few months!! ;)
-
My apologies. :-[
Not to me! To Victor Hugo, bien sûr! ;)

And if all goes according to plan(s), I should be back at next year's ceremony one way or another. :)

Oh... (A JosePiano reference!) you ARE correct and I'm half-wrong!
Julie Andrews - One step into Spring - March 1978
With Alan King, Leslie Uggams and Leo Sayer Julie sang "At the Ballet" and a medley with Leslie Uggams. CBS

DR Charles Pogue - "Rosebud" is a sled.

Hey...some of us have yet to see that movie (me, Barnum, and a yak herder in Tibet)

Someone's had too much caffeine.
She sounds like me when I'm talking about geography or Daylight Savings Time.
-
And I too have caught up!
Wow! You've been so quiet! ;D
-
Welcome back, Tomovoz!
-
Okay - Jennifer Ehle - short and sweet is always best.
Okay - Mary Poppins - who IS that woman playing Mary - awful! Gavin Lee seems fine, but that choreography is not a patch on the butt cheeks of the film choreography, and it is so ordinary as to defy logic - does no choreographer working today know how to conceive and build a number like the masters - Fosse, Bennett, Robbins, and even Tommy Tune? Awful. And that finale with that nude statue was horrifying.
Also, what on earth was that boy who I guess is from Ugly Betty doing on this show?
-
And Miss Ehle's outfit? Whew!
-
And what has happened to poor Donny's face?
-
I think Audra has lost weight; am I right about that? Even her breast does seem more "modest"!
Beauty and the breast!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Welcome twenty-six GUESTS. Having fun?
-
And what has happened to poor Donny's face?
Well... what about Marie's? :o
-
Yes, Audra seems about twenty pounds thinner these days.
-
Marie should be ashamed of herself.

And the commercials keep on coming.

Eddie Izzard's introduction is very funny!

"Jay Johnson: The Two and Only" won for Best Theatrical Event. ;D

Time for me to sign off. I have to go to work in the morning and start getting ready to go to Orlando on Wednesday. I haven't even thought about it yet!

Glad for Jay, and happy to see Paul and Murphy up there. Murphy was in Stages and has been a friend ever since, and Paul was going to play Ernest Ernest of Meltz and Ernest.

I hated the little scenes from plays segment. Not enough of anything, and that "dialogue" from Deuce was hideously unfunny.

Some of us westcoasters are reading the posts ya'll posted when you watched the awards -- so we know what you were talking about back then.

I liked the comment about being too old to see the prompter.

I've never understood why professional actors need to have prompters for a two or three line "speech".
-
Or why they act so flustered when they win.

"act so" flustered may be it Dear Reader Laura.

Merch and Refreshments are different companies.

But you're so versatile (it says somewhere... ;))

I see Mrs Slaughter has joined us. Only 44 pages to catch up.

She sounds like me when I'm talking about geography or Daylight Savings Time.
You're from Arizona - what do you know about Daylight Savings Time?
der Brucer
-
Okay - excuse me but Raul Esparza - what? That was the single worst version of Being Alive I've ever heard. And yes, those certainly aren't actors playing all those instruments on that prerecorded track of twenty musicians, nor, from what I could tell, is it the orchestration used in the show.
-
I thought the Legally Blonde clips everyone was raving about before didn't make ME want to see it - I'm sure it's fun, but those clips were dreary. Not as dreary as The Times They Are A Changin' - thank goodness I missed THAT. And I was thrilled to see that no clips were shown from Ring Of Fire - karma, baby, karma!

Your from Arizona - what do you know about Daylight Savings Time?

Yeah, well, when Zach Braff said, "My name is Zach Braff and I love musical theatre," I said, "Hi Zach! Welcome!"

Actors can only read other people lines properly, I guess! :)

I can't understand a word that Fantasia is singing.

I can't even hear it.

I understood "shoulders back." And "sing," "everything," and most of the last line.

Also, what on earth was that boy who I guess is from Ugly Betty doing on this show?
Mark has professional acting training and has performed on stage in both Philadelphia and New York. I'm sure his presence brought a smile to much of the viewing audience.

I can't even hear it.
You wouldn't have understood the words anyway.

I saw two minutes of a mediocre number - I've seen plenty of two minute numbers on the Tonys that were brilliantly choreographed. This wasn't one of them. I've now seen two terrible numbers from Mary Poppins, but yes, perhaps I'd like it better in the theater.

I don't think I know who Usher is.
His house is well known.
Rather than carry a torch for him - he often carries one for us.

Okay - what WERE those pants that idiot was wearing?

Poppins choreography: the stage version can NOT match the movie version with all the tricks that were used; speed up "action", wires! And it's so frantic that dancers could not match it anyway! This is NOT supposed to be the film version; it's another version of the books! Oh well! What do I know!

I've heard that Mr. Bourne's other work is very good, although I've yet to see any of it. I only judge what's in front of my eyes.

There were not tricks in the Step In Time number in the film - just amazing choreography done by amazing dancers. I knew one of them and I heard all the stories about the creation of the number.

There were not tricks in the Step In Time number in the film - just amazing choreography done by amazing dancers. I knew one of them and I heard all the stories about the creation of the number.
NO TRICKS? You've got to be kidding? What about the wired chimney sweeps?
Of course, the fact that the elaborate number in the film was done in many takes -- and maybe on different days! --and could not be done in one throw on stage has NO importance!
AND the camera movements added up to the choreography as well!

Julie White for "The Little Dog Laughed."
-
Only 710 posts (approx) for a new record - and two hours.

Matt Cavanaugh is pretty darned cute!

Well, after seeing the clips, if my sister were to invite me to come visit her and offer a one-day trip to NYC to see a show, I'd only be interested in seeing Curtains.
-
Okay - how obnoxious is Julie White. A shame Vanessa didn't win, even though I haven't seen any of the performances.
Okay - Step in Time is a movie number - understood. It's also got GREAT choreography. Who cares if it could be replicated on stage - my only point is it has great choreography and what I saw on the Tonys tonight did not have great choreography or even inventive choreography - it was simply ordinary. It's not the end of the world, really.
-
What has Swoozie Kurtz done to her face?

Well, I guess I did workout this morning... At least my right arm - bicep - is "reminding" me right now that I worked out this morning. I guess I shall have to catch up on the remaining 13 pages of posts in the morning. ;)
Goodnight.

Hairspray, the movie - if this was supposed to sell the film, well, I'm not sure it's going to be what its studio would like us to THINK it's going to be. They pretend they're downplaying the film to avoid hyping it like Dreamgirls, but they are hyping like crazy and have been for five months.
-
Haven't seen anything from anything that would make me actually want to see it - play or musical. These little snippets are not well chosen and do not show off the shows - at least not yet.
-
I gotta tell you.

They match a pair of double-knit Black Watch plaid I have - very fashionable in the 70s (nineteen).

I believe "Step in Time" would have come off better if had been taped at the theatre, and shown from the audience - rather than all the close-ups. The stage pictures are quite nice, and Matthew Bourne really does know how to fill the stage.
Alas, I think Mary Poppins had the hardest time putting together a Tony package due to the size of the set - and all the mechanics of the set. And, even though it is nice to hear more than one tune from a show, the medleys never really work for me.
*And there is one point in Mary Poppins where Bert does walk around the proscenium arch. :) And even if you can see the wires, it's still impressive.

Okay - Grey Gardens, the best thing on the show. A musical number with a point of view, good lyrics and good music - although the latter two items show a distinct Sondheim influence. I liked the orchestration, too - I may have to get the CD now - I presume the one to get is the new one, the B'way version.

Okay - Spring Awakening is changing the landscape of Broadway (according to its director)? They said the same of Rent - didn't change anything. And this number with all that ridiculous jumping up and down did nothing to tell me anything about the show or was anything that would make me want to see or hear more. I know it has its fans right here at haineshisway.com, so I probably will see it, but boy, what they showed this evening wasn't so hot. It was nice to see the darling Remy Zaken, though.

Bk - I don't think anyone was actually raving about the Legally Blonde clips, but I did note that they manage to sneak on a pretty lengthy segment with a full half of what (to many who saw it) was one of the more exciting numbers in the show. And it seemed more fun than many of the "live" presentations. I think it established for tourists that the musical exists and that it's lively and peppy at the very least.
-
Lively and peppy and bursting with blondes - almost an Odd Couple reference

Frank Langella's speech was indeed gracious and he is a class act. He is also brilliant in Frost/Nixon and deserved to win. Sorry Eve Best didn't win for Moon of the Misbegotten. She was swell (Saw both of these shows in their London run). Yeah, Coast of Utopia!
The Laughlin show looks like a rip-off of a British TV show that aired on BBCAmerica a while back called Viva Blackpool or something like that.

Okay - after hearing the A Star Is Born stories about Fantasia in Color Purple, imagine my surprise to see a crass Jennifer Holliday clone with the same mannerisms and all that tiresome riffing (including the de rigeur screaming idiots in the audience). As usual, the pundits have me scratching my head. I was happy to see Miss Ebersole win - she's a lovely person.
So did Curtains just win the one award?
-
Okay, Tom Hulce?
-
A Broadway musical that rocks. Gee, we've never had that before.
-
What a show - do we really need "concert" lighting? They try so hard to make Broadway not seem like Broadway, don't they? And what's with that ripoff of the Oscar set and that smoke effect in the background?
-
Are we STILL on page forty-eight?
-
Clear winner for me this evening? Grey Gardens.
-
Tommy Tune in red plaid pants?
I bet that was a sight
-
Happiest moment? No Ring Of Fire in the clips. Karma, baby, karma.
-
So did Curtains just win the one award?
According to Playbill.com, here are the total number of awards received by each production:
Spring Awakening: 8
Coast of Utopia: 7
Grey Gardens: 3
Mary Poppins: 1
Jay Johnson: The Two and Only: 1
Journey's End: 1
Company: 1
Little Dog Laughed: 1
Frost/Nixon: 1
Curtains: 1
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page forty-nine. I feel confident that we'll get to page fifty by midnight.

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,280233,00.html)
A small, serious musical which began life last summer at off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company, "Spring Awakening" also took awards for score, book-musical, direction-musical, featured-actor, choreography, orchestrations and lighting-musical.
Its army of producers, numbering more than a score, all marched on stage to accept the best-musical prize.
"Steven and I definitely set out to make a new kind of musical," said Sheik, describing the edgy show, set among troubled teens in late 19th century Germany. "We were trying to forge our own path. I think we got lucky timing-wise — what's happening politically. People were ready to deal with something that had teeth."
