Title: THE WINDY METAPHORS
Post by: bk on June 16, 2007, 12:03:01 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes weren't too long-winded, and were breezy, and now it is time for you to post until the metaphorical cows come home.

"Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" as presented by TAO was very, very, very (that's three verys) funny!  Because this weekend is Olympia's Capital Pride weekend, they had an opening act of these two guys (they're boyfriends), one plays keyboards and sings, the other plays the drums and they sang their own original music.  I wish I could remember their name, but they were funny and loud...very loud...much too loud for the size room. ::) But they were good.  They did about a half hour of music.

After that was the actual play, "VLoS."  The set was a simple platform with two columns on each side of the front with chalk drawings to represent the different time periods.  At the back, where just about everyone made their entrances and exits was a giant cut-out vagina...yes, a va-jay-jay (a "Grey's Anatomy" reference).  Other than having to stare at that for an entire hour ::), it was so much fun!  Everyone in the cast and the audience loved it.  It went by so quickly.  It was only an hour long.

Post by: George on June 16, 2007, 03:21:29 AM
After that, everyone stood around and chatted.  I met some friends that I hadn't seen in a while.  Then, a bunch of us (including some cast members who are in "Shrew") went downstairs to the bar and chatted there for an hour or so.  I eventually left, came home, watched a bit of "Dreamgirls," checked around at MySpace, caught up with the rest of yesterday's posts here and then posted this post. :)

And now it's time for me to sleep...finally!  Yesterday was a long day.  Today will probably be long, too.  It's my mom's 65th birthday!  I need to go over to my sister's house early this morning (after I've actually slept, of course) to help her set up and do some last minute shopping.  Depending how long the party lasts, I may see another show in the evening, but I probably won't get the chance to.  We'll see.  Anyway, I'm off to bed! 8)

Go to the party, DR CILLA LIZ....go to the party.

Wow!  Glad to hear BD Wong is on the mend....

No DR TCB it's not THAT Ernie Ford.....although when he first moved to Greencastle as Executive Director of the Society of Professional Journalists, an article in the local paper was headlined with that exact same phrase.

He and I played Oscar and Felix in THE ODD COUPLE a few seasons back....well he didn't bother to learn many of Oscar's lines so I kind of played both parts....but the audience liked it....or so they said.

Speaking of bone, I'll be watching THE BONE COLLECTOR at some point this weekend. This movie has some age on it now (1999 release), but I somehow missed it when it came out and in all subsequent video releases, so this will be my first experience with it.

I have DAYS OF GLORY (2006 Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film) to watch, too, possibly tonight.

I have Hepburn's DRAGON SEED (with an all-star cast) to watch, and I'd love to finish up the fourth season of ANGEL, too.

I have to go get to some paperwork, and then I have a rather important appointment this morning.

I invite and welcome and request the very most, the very best, and the very strongest and positive VIBES from all of the lovely DRs and H/Ks, for some pending business stuff that is going on for me.  A good, affirmative, and successful outcome would be MOST WONDERFUL at this time.

And I could use that mental support for the next 9 days...... I know that that is a selfish request of the collective "vibe energy" here, but it is really needed and requested.

And that's not a metaphor,.... that's a direct request.  :)

DR MusicGuy - I don't flash my fancy duds at just anybody...I have standards!  ;)

Hmmmmmm....Standards, dear Naomi......

Kind of sounds like when my concert manager was talking to me years ago.  I had played at a very tacky venue on a pretty crappy instrument, but for a very nice "larger-than-usual" fee.  Some time later, after I puffed up to my manager about being an "artiste" and having standards, he said to me.... "we already know what you are -- I'm now just haggling about price!"

I must be away to work shortly.

It certaily is summer.  The weather isn't blazingly hot yet, but business is way up.  Yesterday I spent my entire shift working the self-serve lanes, and was kept busy the entire time, bouncing from register to register.  I was even asked to stay an extra hour (bringing my total - including today's shift - to forty-five hours this week).

I've cheated, and read the first two chapters of MTL last night, but I'd better finish the bio of Lady in the Dark before I get carried away.

Well, I'd be using my eyes to do SOMETHING if I'm awake: either reading, cleaning, driving in the car, etc.

I've said all along that I'm in a very unique position of being retired at a (relatively) young age, and having nothing but time on my hands to do ALL the things in the world I wanted to do when I was working (sometimes three jobs) but never had the time to do.

Believe me, I KNOW how lucky I am. And being a homebody as I am, I am perfectly content reading, watching films and TV programs, taking care of the house, cooking, etc. In fact, not just content - in hog heaven!

Saturday morning greetings!  I've taken a vacation day today to spend time with my out-of-town relatives who all arrived last night.  Only my niece is staying at our house, so she and I just had a nice big breakfast and she's off to Gram's (my mother) to visit with her parents (my sister and brother-in-law) and then take her dad to play golf.

DH Richard is at Miami University all day and evening, rehearsing then performing the Men's Glee Club 100th anniversary concert tonight.  When we found out that it would cost $30 for me to attend and that the concert would be in a TENT  :P, he recommended that I skip this one.

We have had way too much rain up here and I would love to send some of it to Laura!

One of the highlights (lowlights) of our Bacharach flop medley.  From which BK made me remove The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, LOL ("it was a big hit," professed BK, thus ignoring the fact that some of the biggest hits have also been flops of a different order).    ;D

I'm told that Mercury went into Retrograde yesterday. I'm not up on astrology, but I do recall when there was some sort of retrograde condition last fall, EVERYTHING went wrong! Even after the Retrograde condition was over I was still trying to put it all right! Ugh! Now we have another one. Marvelous Matt showed up this morning with my new bathroom cabinet door and drawer fronts and...the door doesn't fit properly. So he must make a new door. And the drawer fronts don't look right, so he needs to make adjustments there. Then the electrical outlet that isn't working (but WAS working before) can't be fixed. UGH!!!

JRAND, is this what we have to look forward to for the next few weeks????

DR DakotaCelt, we would be happy to accept some of your excess rain; however it would all dry up before it got here.

It doesn't rain in June in the Arizona desert. We won't see rain until probably mid-July. If we are lucky we will get some then.

Good Afternoon!

Well, after clearing a pathway in my room, I sat down at my keyboard and did some practicing.  And will do a little bit more practicing in a little bit.  -I know there are various ways to "cheat" when it comes to playing dance breaks, but sometimes it is just easier to play what's on the page - or at least try to play what's on the page - while keeping the tempo steady.

DR Laura, I am well aware of the syndrome to which you are referring. Oh, am I ever! When doing projects on the house I TRY to put limits on it: this, but not that, etc. Try. The gods of home renovation are not kind-hearted. As for schedules, well, they're anybody's guess. At least Matt shows up and knows what he's doing. I am most thankful about that. And he's flexible when there's a problem. Otherwise, I'd truly be going out of my mind.

Good Afternoon!

Well, another hour or practice and a workout later...  *And with my schedule over the next couple of days, I'm trying to figure out when I should plan my workouts and/or jogs/runs/jobs/.  I'm either gonna have to work out either early in the morning, or in the evening.  Something tells me, I'm gonna have a few early mornings next week.  However, I've done it before, and I can do it again.  -Also, I guess it's a good sign that I'm still "motivated" since I'm actually thinking ahead and planning my workouts.  :)

I just finished Season Two of THE CLOSER, and what a great series!  My friend Conan as Detective Ross was one of the bumblers brought in to take over Malik's murder investigation during Brenda's leave of absence. It was also nice seeing Father Paul from THE SOPRANOS as a treacherous CIA agent and XANADU's late James Carpinello as an unlucky CIA agent.  Great shows.  I can't wait for the start of Season 3, so I may have to drag out Season One now.

Similies and metaphors are both types of figurative language and both involve comparisons of unlike objects.

In the simpliest terms (because there are variations of each type):

Similes use the words "like" or "as" in their comparisons:

The boy ran like a deer through the forest.

Metaphors state that one thing is the other thing without the use of words "like" or "as."

The boy was a deer running through the forest.

Holy moley on rye!  I've been out in the garage rearranging and looking through a goodly number of boxes.  It took about five hours but things are much more organized now - and I found the two boxes I was hoping to find.  Now the Kritzerland inventory is easy to get to and very clearly organized.

I found over 100 cassettes and DATS to transfer - including all the instrumental mixes from every solo album I've produced.

OK...I'm probably not supposed to be talking about this, but TNT asked me to do a "viral video" that was supposed to look like it was made by a Closer fan. (If you go to YouTube you can see several of these...some are pretty good!) Since I had all the videos in my system, I did a montage about her sweet fixation. They didn't make any changes apart from asking if I could make it a little shorter.

So I've been checking on YouTube and it never showed up. Just now I went to www.tnt.tv to check on the schedule for the marathon and saw a video called "Sweet On Brenda", which is obviously mine. But I made crappy titles to make it look amateur---really cheesy and ugly, and here it is on their network site?? But I can't view it. It is in MIME format and doesn't even give me the option to download a player. So here's the link:
http://www.tnt.tv/dramavision/index.jsp?oid=30052
If anyone can play this, could you tell me if it has cheesy-looking and sounding titles? I can't believe they would put it out there looking like that--doesn't make sense if it's supposed to represent the network.

I just watched the final disc of POPULAR Season 1, and the series went in one episode from bizarre to completely out in left field with a parody of every series season ender: natural disaster, cliffhanger, pets gone wild, a wedding, a cheesy boy group, and an musical episode.  what drugs are these insane writers on? I'm still laughing that a series with this much cheek ever lasted more than two or three weeks before the dumbass studio heads pulled it.

Tomorrow, THE CLOSER Season 1.

It was a clip from an episode where she is arguing with Polk about cut backs.  She wants money for a blood test on a child and he is telling her she needs to let one of her detectives go.

I looked at the clips again, they both seem to be a bit inconsistent in their clarity.

I'll have my regular Closer promo producers pull it up at work on Monday and take a look. We've had to crank out so much stuff for the premiere that we're ready for the season to start and then life will be easier for all of us.

I have to say that this show gets better every season, and the 5 new episodes I've seen so far are great--a good mixture of tragedy and comedy. I can't wait to see the one with Brenda's dad!

I began my evening of viewing with the last half of THE CLOSER, Season 2 finale. Loved it just as much as I did the first two times I watched it.

And speaking of Brenda and her sweets, every time in this set that she finally gives in to temptation and eats something sweet, her acting is SO superbly hilarious, it just tickles me greatly. That look of ecstacy, pure pleasure like an addict getting a fix is just hysterical to me.

I guess as a sweet food junkie myself, I can identify.

Next I watched the really outstanding Algerian film DAYS OF GLORY. Having to do with Algerians who fought to liberate France during World War II considering it their homeland (even though they were treated like second class citizens and denied rights given to other soldiers), this film justly deserved its Oscar nomination. Terrific set pieces in the film, and a climactic defense of an Alsace village by four Algerian soldiers is heart-stopping.

I really enjoyed this film; it's SO much more than a war movie.

Is anyone who takes HBO watching the new series JOHN FROM CINCINATTI? I recorded the first episode after I read some decent reviews for the show, but I've since read some scathing reviews of it. Just wondered if anyone else had given it a try?

I wanted to get a facial today, but they spa was booked so I went and bought all the stuff to give myself one. Then I swam in the pool for awhile and still went to the party at Paradise Island for a couple hours. It was ok, but I'm glad I came back early.   The only food they had was cheese cubes, chips and dip and sweets.   I ordered a small pizza when I got back to the room

So, when does this trip to Paradise end, Cillaliz? Is this the last day?  By the way, I enjoyed your luncheon companions also.

I will be glad to see the girls.   This has been an interesting trip. I did learn some things, got the resources I need to do the research I need to do, and met a lot of people.  They aren't nearly as interesting as criminal defense lawyers, but you can't have it all.   The sparkling conversation at our IA-NE get together today was a contest on who has the most kids...sheesh - two people have 6 and one has 5. I didn't see any of them at the party tonight

"Tonight's performance of A Chorus Line is dedicated to Thommie Walsh."

Thommie created the role of Bobby.  He's been fighting a very brave fight against cancer the past couple of years.  Thankfully - but not unexpectedly - he was surrounded by family and loved ones, the past couple of days.  And he was able to spend his last days here on Earth at   his home in upstate New York.

I never met Thommie, but Baayork always talked about him fondly - that original cast of A Chorus Line became a true family.  And since I've been a part of that family for the past couple of years... -I have to say, I got a little weepy here and there during the show tonight.  (I guess it was good that I wasn't playing then.  ;))

I just wanted to "tip the hat" to another piece of Broadway history.  Rest In Peace, Thommie.  But something tells me, you'll be dancing and choreographing again in no time.  :)

Good Evening!

So, after the pre-show announcement was made about Thommie Walsh...

"Again..."

The Key 2 Book is a little bit more involved than the Key 3 Book, and it looks like there are actually some passages I'm going to have to practice. ;)  Most of the book is guitar and harp - so, there's lots of arpeggios and glissandos (my favorite!).  I'll practice the book over the next couple of days, and then see about setting up my first show on Key 2.

OH!!  And the "Wah-Wah" pedal stuff is a sooooooo cool.  :D

The travel vibes and the vibes for the health of BD Wong seem to have worked.

BD Wong was on this afternoon, in fine voice, and in fine fettle, even doing some bits of derring-do (sp?) that as an audience member I first thought a little scary given his stitches and such, but which I am sure were done with a recognition of his Friday night injury.

I must admit, I'm very glad I'm going home tomorrow.  The relaxing part of this week was very needed and I'm sure will help with getting through the next two weeks, finalizing things at the office, moving into the new one etc.   It's getting very close to the end. I can't wait.
Title: Re:THE WINDY METAPHORS

No. I thought it would be fun to go with DR Jose, but he's busy tonight.  Since he doesn't seem interested.  I may see it during the week unless it closes for want of business.

Well... You may be able to twist my arm next week, mid-week.  We'll see.  However, as some of the reviews have mentioned - and as I know from seeing other shows in the 45th Street Theatre - the air conditioning system there really doesn't work that well.  So, if the day has been a hot and humid one, expect the same conditions inside the theatre.

However, I did walk by the theatre on the way to ACL tonight, and the lobby didn't look to busy, so... -But I think it's a limited run anyway.

And as soon as I get to the new office, I will start walking every day.  My new office is on the skywalk system, which is a mile or so around downtown. There are maps etc...bottom line is it's all inside, so weather is irrelevant and I can just open my door and walk.   There will be no excuses!

I know but there are times one has to stand up for what is just. I believe in treating a person the way you want to be treated. Respect...

One reason I adore coming here, that concept exists here...

After being on the end of discrimination for years due to my hearing I guess it has taught me to fight for what I believe in.

I have to say that I don't care much for these new musicals where they take the songs written by someone or by a group and then try to work them into a story. They usually don't make much sense.

Can you use them to rerecord and release the albums on Kritzerland?

So sorry to hear about Thommie Walsh. A talented performer and a director/choreographer.

I believe he is third original cast member to pass. The first was Michel Stuart (Greg) and then Clive Clerk who played Larry. Michel went on to produce Nine and My Favorite Year.

I'm here because I've been awakened by a disturbing dream about a child mysteriously dying en route to a Chicago 1903 performance of BABES IN TOYLAND.  The name that sticks in my head, now that I'm awake, is Taylor Kincaid, who was very young, and my only memory is that it was a matinee, the mother was young with two children and in my dream she sewed a button on Taylor's coat in a restaurant before they left for the theatre.  She had a letter with her recommending a hotel. This dream is unsettling for several reasons: it seemed very real, I believe this is a true story but I can't tell you why and  the plot of BABES IN TOYLAND involves a toymaker intent on building toys to kill and maim children. Of course in the show, no children die but this dream freaks me out a bit.  I've been up googling the name Taylor Kincaid.  Nada.

On a CLOSER thought, is the coroner's being named Dr Crippin an homage to the famoous Dr Hawley Harvey Crippen who killed his shrewish wife for the love of beautiful Ethel le Neve?  Every time his name comes up, I laugh!

And, I'm back to bed, hopefully with no more dreams of Taylor Kincaid.

Just discovered something interesting about DBF... He is a big fan of First Nudie Musical.

He saw the movie when it played at UWSP when he was in college.

You JUST found this out?  This NEVER came up in conversation??  How long has he been your DBF??

Just back from show and dinner and must now hurry and write notes.  Very sorry to hear about Thommie.  I recorded Whorehouse with Ann-Margret, which was his production, although I didn't meet him then.  But I did work closely with him when I did the first recording of Donna McKechnie's act and we really go on well.
