Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with cabbages and kings and other lovely things, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating the cabbage and looking for the Kings, which is a favorite team of theirs.
-
And the word of the day is: VULPINE!
And how many of you smart people know my backup word of the day:
URINATOR!
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS!
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to LauraII.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I have a headache that I wish would go away.

TOTD:
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The "challenge" dance was my late Mother's favourite scene in any movie ever - and thus it will always be special to me.
-
Gone headache vibes for our host. Drinking something sweet sometimes helps - or consuming DARK chocolate.
-
Happy Birthday to Laura II (who hasn't posted in two years ::))!
-
Uri Nator. Wasn't he one of the first cosmonauts?
-
Make that twenty-four GUESTS.
-
And I'm somewhat happy to report that Nancy Drew opened in seventh place with a very poor gross. And it ain't goin' up from there.
-
I'm just waiting up to see if this headache will get better.
-
As I've said before - I like "Peeping Tom" but find Mr Boehm's accent offputting.
-
I did eat one little piece of dark chocolate, but it hasn't helped yet.
-
I'd eat a lot more than one piece!!
-
Of course it may only help with migraine headaches.
-
Of course it may only help with migraine headaches.
I work with a woman who gets migraine headaches when she eats any kind of chocolate. It's very sad...she loves chocolate.
-
I'm off to bed. Today is going to be a long day (after I sleep, that is). I need to get to work early (this is the last week to pay the bills for this month, and a co-worker is on vacation) and we're having "Shrew" rehearsal tonight. So, good night, Tomovoz and BK...and to any and all guests!
-
Hey, I just noticed that sometime yesterday we passed over 330,000 posts! Wow!
;D
-
Good Morning all.
Sad to hear about Tommy Walsh. Anthony was not a friend of his but when he worked at The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in upstate NY years ago (before I knew him) the theatre did a tribute show to Mr. Walsh and Anthony was in the cast. He performed for Mr. Walsh who was very generous in his compliments. He also met the Walsh family. He was shocked and very sad to hear about Tommy's death.
-
TCB, you mentioned posting a picture of my brother. I don't have any current pictures ready for posting. After his visit I will post one but until then here is a shot of older brother (me) and younger brothers (my visiting brother is on the left)
-
The previous picture was taken in 1968. This picture was taken in 1986. I'm on the end (obviously). My youngest brother is on the other end. He had just returned from Fort Dix NJ. He went there for National Guard training. The brother who will be visiting is in the middle.
-
Jeez, I wore big glasses back then!
-
Good morning, all! I may have to deal with the Post Office in the Toyland zip code this morning, so I have been up quite early. When I got to the office yesterday, I found receipts for three registered pieces of mail that could not be delivered on Friday because no one was there, and I hope that this attempted delivery doesn't screw up the current lease situation, whatever it is.

DR LAURA - Jim was nicknamed Big Tuna because the first day at the new office he ordered a large tuna sandwich for lunch.

PEEPING TOM is one of my favorite films as well. I didn't know it had been released by Criterion until it was written about here on HHW. I ordered the disk....
Anna Massey's reactions to the film she watches is enough for me....I didn't have to see them...whew!
-
I hate movies like NANCY DREW (2007) which trash old classic favorites to make a joke. The audience those movies are intended for don't really know the history of the character or what it is really about, so the title character comes off looking dumb....which Nancy never was!
At least the Pamela Sue Martin television series had some respect for the original material....some.
-
Tonight is the season premiere of DR EDISAURUS' show THE CLOSER.
I will be at auditions teaching some dancing....but luckily TNT reruns it series a couple of times, so I will watch it when I get home.

Good morning, DR Laura!
Good morning, DRs TCB and JRand!

BK, do you know if THE RATINGS GAME was always intended for Showtime? I wonder if it was ever thought of for theatrical release. It sure had a wonderful plot idea and a cast full of stars.
For those unfamiliar with the RATINGS GAME, Danny DeVito plays a rich, kind of stupid businessman, who dreams of being a TV star so he produces terrible pilots for himself, and they are so bad, but he finds a network like NBC is now, in such bad shape that they'll put anything on. Then he devises a kind of brilliant scheme to make the ratings appear to be really high for his shows and becomes a great success for awhile.

Embarrassingly enough, the current number that i watch over and over again and don't tire of is "So Much Better," the first act finale of LEGALLY BLONDE, which seems to be in an authorized clip on youtube.
I'll have to think about older numbers. there are many.

I am DELIGHTED that the Nancy Drew movie did so poorly out of the gate. The local reviewers here both savaged it, and when I read how the basic character had changed, I was glad for its failure. If I have a chance today, I'll be watching NANCY DREW, REPORTER from the newly released Drew DVD set. From reviews I've read, Warners didn't do anything to touch up the prints they used, and having seen NANCY DREW, DETECTIVE on TCM a few months ago and it looked awful, I'm not encouraged as far as transfer quality.
-
I also have MISS POTTER to watch today (it gets first priority), so I'll have that to talk about later.
-
I think of all the numbers that I'm aware of in current B'way shows, I'm most enamored of Thataway (http://youtube.com/watch?v=sIOBxkVQn9E) from CURTAINS. That's the number they should have featured on the Tonys, though it have David Hyde Pierce.
-
TV reminders:
THE CLOSER does indeed premiere its third season tonight at 9 p.m. on TNT. I will be watching it high definition but delayed due to watching something else at 8 that will spill over into the 9 p.m. hour.

Last night, DR George wrote:
"Today, I saw "Take Me Out." It was a pretty good production of a wonderful show. The lead actor's main problem was not his acting, but that he couldn't just stand still and talk. He kept moving and that got annoying, but otherwise the rest of the cast was quite good. The lead character's best friend, who is supposed to be played by a black man, was not played by a black man. I don't know if they had someone and he left or if they were able to find someone appropriate to play the part, at all. Anyway, the director (who is not black) played the role...and they didn't change any lines. I went in knowing that, and I don't think that it would worked (or been legal ) to have rewritten the lines to make the character not be a black man. Otherwise, the nudity was quite unobtrusive and if anyone went to the show just to see naked men, they would be somewhat disappointed."
I think if color blind casting is to work, it must go in both ways, so I would have no problem with this.
As for TAKE ME OUT, a local theater group did it here, too, but sad to say, the actors hired for the baseball players just weren't convincing athletes - AT ALL, and despite their actings skills, I just never bought them in the parts.

Hopefully we will get the new season in September as we have the past 2 years.

DR FJL....thanks so much. Cute....I like that girl. And it's a cute number. I think that last bit was in a commercial on the Tony Awards or something, I saw it somewhere.

Thanks for the link, DR FJL. I enjoyed the clip a lot.

LEGALLY BLONDE is surprisingly (to me, anyway) turning out to be one of those shows that gets little respect, but lots of love from its audiences. Odd thing is that the availability of clips on youtube and such has made it unnecessary for me to spend bucks to see it again. (Seen it four times already, though. A real "guilty pleasure.")
-
Jrand - Re the rest of the score: The LEGALLY BLONDE music is not up to what was expected from the past work of those composers, but it's correct I think as the style of music the main character would have as her own - but I do love the lyrics

Guess I need to head down now and start getting cleaned up for lunch out with best friend John.

SECOND FLOOR DUNGEON

Good Morning! (Once again)
Well.. 18 dancers (men) later, and now I'm "on break" until 2:00. So...
At least I brought my laptop with me, and my ACL score to practice.

And my audition session tonight got cancelled. HOO and RAY!!! :)

DR Sandra will thank you for the answer to the tuna question, JRand. She is still bitter about being on the phone (which she avoids as much as possible) when that episode was on.

SECOND FLOOR DUNGEON
Jewelry department!
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Ditto. ;) However, in particular...
"Buenos Aires" from Evita - A great "time passing" sequence".
"The Dance at the Gym" - West Side Story - What's sort of "sad" about this number, is that there is sooooo much going on, that it's inevitable that the audience can't see everything and everyone. Some of the hardest bits of choreography happen upstage at times.
The Whole Montage Sequence from A Chorus Line - However, I do have to give a major credit to Tharon Musser's lighting - all those isolated pools of light. -Oh, and the reveal of the ballet class in "At The Ballet".
"The Little House of Uncle Thomas" - The King & I - The magic of simplicity.
-Plus a few other ones I know I'm forgetting right now.
-
SECOND FLOOR DUNGEON

I, too, am glad for the low box-office of Nancy Drew. I'm sure it will do okay on DVD, but I'm hoping this stops any further films.
I had way too much fun writing my new book, and the heroine is too smart and funny (think a today female Kritzer) and the book panders to no one or nothing - it just presents its mystery, the heroine (a journalism fanatic) has to become an amateur sleuth, and, you know, I think the mystery part of it, the sleuthing, is interesting and done in the way these things are supposed to be done (part of the fun of writing this book was that my previous mysteries were very non-traditional - this time I wanted to see if I could write a traditional series mystery - or what I hope will be a series). I don't have my fifteen-year-old protagonist jumping off trains or doing hair-raising impossible stunts. Just detection.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
I didn't even have to mention page five and we're on page five.
So, Murder At Hollywood High - I'll post the cover art very soon.
-
Oh....13 dreams crushed in a morning. :P

-
Hey! I can deal!
It wouldn't be the first time I solo frenzied.

Somebody just try and stop me.
Oh please, somebody try.
(That's a riff on a Katherine Hepburn line from some movie or other).
-
I watched the first half of "Cleopatra" (20th-Fox, 1963) last night...my first time watching it on my HDTV plasma.
This looked incredible played on the HD DVD player (which I assumed contributed something to the sharpness and depth of the images). It's quite a handsome production, fascinating to watch and very rewarding to see some excellent performances (Harrison, in particular) and hear some brilliant music (Alex North's magnificent score).
The entire procession into Rome was more thrilling than I've ever found it in previous viewings, including seeing it in a theater during its popular price release.
Taylor is watchable in the first half, and certainly beautiful beyond measure, although her "Cleopatra" isn't very strong. Liz had trouble with a couple of names, pronouncing "Isis" correctly once, and then pronouncing it incorrectly as "Iseize" another time. Her astronomer Sosigenes, played by Hume Cronyn, becomes "Sisogenes" in one scene.
I'm guessing La Liz had more than enough worries about her hair and eyes and wardrobe to worry about pronouncing names properly.
I know I "ought" to tackle the second half soon....but it has always been my least favorite thing to watch...so talky, so uninvolving and on and on....
-
Out of so many wonderful lines in the first half of "Cleopatra" is this CLUNKER from Marc Antony during the end of the procession into Rome:
"Nothing like this has come into Rome since Romulus and Remus".
!!!!!
Topping it off, Burton pronounces "Romulus" as "Romolus".
-
And Burton is more noticeably out of trim, so to speak, in this film...he looks so flabby in his Roman gear.
Nothing at all like the figure Stephen Boyd would have struck had he remained with the film.
-
Good Morning! (Once again)
Well.. 18 dancers (men) later, and now I'm "on break" until 2:00. So...
Add to that a Latin playboy she keeps in a private nest
No wonder, now and then, a lady needs a rest.
I thought I knew every Cole porter lyric!
-
I also watched "Much Ado About Nothing", that mad romp of a movie by Kenneth Branagh.
This one is amazing on my plasma....the anamorphic image filling my screen. It's quite the entertaining film.
It had to be rousing for Elizabethan audiences, but there are elements to the story machinations that make me grate my teeth.
Hero never should have taken Claudio back after he and the Prince realized they had seriously wronged her. They also soiled the friendship they had with Hero's father and uncle.
That all would be forgiven and that Hero would be bestowed upon Claudio again and that the Prince would be forgiven (because, presumably, HE had been fooled by his brother, Don John) strikes me as absurd.
But, getting beyond that -- as the movie does -- leads to a rewarding and celebratory (and Gorgeous!) finale.
-
TOD:
The nightclub dancing scene from GUMNAAM (1965)
The finale from BLONDIE GOES LATIN (1941)
42nd Street from 42nd STREET (1933)
those are the first 3 off the top of my head.
-
Another film I watched for the first time on my HDTV and HD DVD player was "Dreamcatcher". This is a movie I really like, and it looked sensational. Great depth and clarity of all images heightened the impact of the presentation. Really good performances outweigh any negatives the film may have. It's a fascinating escapist fare.

Amanda has a bit of competition. I have to admit voting before reading. I didn't find the link to the articles, where is it?
-
Hmm... So... You're going to a dance call... One at which you know you will dance... But you still want to "look good" and wear some big-ass earrings... Which keep hitting you in the face each time you turn and pirouette... ???
-It's actually quite entertaining to watch. But I'm also waiting for the time when the earrings go flying off of her ears... and into somebody else's face... eyes... :-\
-
I have to laugh! That ultra rare Beatles White Album that is up for bid on eBay is currently going for $16,000 and the reserve is not yet met! How much do they expect to get for it?

Some reviews:
"Milla seems on her way to joining the ranks of cabaret royalty. Her latest show...pllayed a special one-nighter on Valentine's Day and it was indeed a sweetheart of a performance. She can glide from an elegant soprano to chocolatey deep tones in the time it takes to wink at the ringside customers; something she does frequently and irresistibly." -- Michael Dale BROADWAYWORLD.COM
"Those planning cabaret acts should be given a conference with Milla Ilieva. Too many singers choose material that's been done to death, but for her new show, the fetching Ilieva found some songs that your rarely or never get to hear. Thanks to Ilieva for reminding us of that!" -- Peter Filichia, THEATERMANIA.COM

SECOND FLOOR DUNGEON
The dreaded Dr. C's Chamber of Horrors.
-
From David Finkle in Backstage:
"If you can imagine one of the full-bodied ladies on a vast Peter Paul Rubens canvas doing a cabaret act, then you have some idea of how full-bodied Milla Ilieva of the full-bodied voice appears during [her show] at the Encore . The rosy-cheeked (and I mean all four cheeks) Rubens women are innocent and voluptuous at the same time, bursting with good health and good cheer. And that’s Ilieva all over.
Directed with animation by Margery Beddow and with Paul Trueblood playing tasteful notes and chords at the piano, Ilieva has great fun–carefully prepared–chatting about her up-and-down love life and then backing up her confessions with appropriate songs. Unwilling to play the coquette, she suggests a rather active amorous past (and present) in a medley of “Do What You Do” (John Jennings) and “Do It Again” (the Gershwin sibs). To substantiate her declarations further, she’s delved pulled up “When Does the Ravishing Begin” from the obscure “Lock Up Your Daughters.” Her thoughtfully-arranged version of Jerry Herman’s ‘Time Heals Everything” may be the best rendition yet she gets giggles (and emits a few) on the Fred Ebb-John Kander “Sara Lee.”
Incidentally, this is the same Milla Ilieva who has campaigned for MAC (The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) to do right by its membership. For her pains, she’s endured some offensive retaliation by small-minded members of the often petty local cabaret community. The reason I bring this up is that in the sole digression from her making-whoopee theme, she sings “The Only Game in Town” (Kander-Ebb), which was cut from “The Act” and includes a phrase about dealing with lies. She introduces the song by saying that what happens to a woman isn’t what matters. It’s how the woman handles it that counts. Let’s just say that while cabaret is an increasingly shrinking game, Milla Ilieva is winning it hands down against nose-thumbers who haven’t a modicum of the talent or gumption she displays here with effortless effort. - David Finkle, Backstage
-
Critics Barbara & Scott Sigel wrote about Milla:
"In her saucy new show...cabaret artist Milla Ilieva enriches and expands the parameters of her considerable skills as a cabaret artist. Commanding the stage with both presence and poise, she builds upon her southern roots to establish a playful persona that is part southern belle, part New York sophisticate, and all woman. In her opening number she promises, "What A Night This Is Going To Be," and she is true to her word.
A tongue-in-cheek performance by a woman with an appetite for the sensual and the sexual, her colorful tour of the many and varied dimensions of love ranges from her sly take on the dicey "When Does the Ravishing Begin?" to her consummate and consummated rendition of "Do it Again." A soprano whose most beguiling notes seem to come from the middle to the lower part of her register, and an actress with expressive, big flirty eyes, Ilieva has the tools to make a powerful impression and the skill to put those tools to work. She covers "Sara Lee" with comic icing, and turns "Everybody's Girl" into the show-stopping centerpiece of her show.
This is a particularly well-crafted act with careful attention paid to song selection. Her show is anchored by strong, emotionally charged standards like "Time Heals Everything" and given additional verve by virtue of its cleverly chosen obscure gems such as "Tess's Torch Song." She sets up each number with patter that is delivered with a refreshing economy, and then she puts them over with an impressive veneer of professionalism. She is aided and abetted in her pursuit of excellence by her director, Broadway veteran Margery Beddow, and her much-admired musical director Paul Trueblood who is among the elite few who know how to support a singer without overplaying.
Despite the sexual innuendos and bad girl bantering, at the heart of Ilieva's show is a warm-hearted optimism. If she tips her hand by singing a sincere version of "A Cockeyed Optimist," she deepens the sentiment with her buoyant rendition of "Taking a Chance on Love." - Barbara and Scott Siegel ~ The Two of Clubs ~ TalkinBroadway.com

There's Gary...

I myself was born in Gary, Indiana. As were most of my siblings. Then I was spirited away to nearby Crown Point. The city that let Dillinger escape.

I believe it is she...
-
DtM - Indeed she is the Bistro Award Winning Do-Re-Milla.
-
I myself was born in Gary, Indiana. As were most of my siblings.
Did they arrive via the Wells Fargo wagon? ;)
-
DtM - Indeed she is the Bistro Award Winning Do-Re-Milla.
Yes, she can cook, too.
-
I've suggested to her that she pair up with someone named Fa-Soul-Latina
-
Where's Bernstein, Comden, and Green when you need them?
-
IF... was discussed a few days back, well there has been a retrospective in town of all three of the Linday Anderson/Malcom McDowall movies. And I was able to see in a nice print on the big screen O LUCKY MAN, which is a good movie I had only seen on TV years ago. The Alan Price songs had always stuck with me and I bought the LP soundtrack long ago. It was fun to get the full context of the songs now that I know them by heart.
-
Where's Bernstein, Comden, and Green when you need them?
Out seeking testosterone injections.
-
Did they arrive via the Wells Fargo wagon? ;)
No, I believe it was the stork.
-
I've suggested to her that she pair up with someone named Fa-Soul-Latina
If it was Fa-Soul-Latido you'd have ALL the notes of the scale! :)

DtM - Indeed she is the Bistro Award Winning Do-Re-Milla.
How about that! It's a small internet world, afterall...
[Music cue]

Or maybe someone named Tina who could be Fa-Sol-La-Tina
That would bring us back to Dough
-
Out seeking testosterone injections.
Well, when you get back, DR Ron Pulliam, let us all know how that worked out for you. ;)

Milla Ilieva isn't do-re-milla by any chance, is she?
Yes, and she is Fantastick!

No, I believe it was the stork.
I'll bet your mom was expecting a box of maple syrup

So, I finally announce the book and no one has boo to say? Boo.
Back from my morning stuff, and am about to be on my way to rehearsal.
But, it looks like we've added another performer to the benefit - Emily Skinner.
-
Did they arrive via the Wells Fargo wagon? ;)
No...that was my raisin d'etres from Fresno!
-
Booooo---k vibes to bk! Congratulations! And may the Nancy Drew film die an untimely death. (Not to wish any filmmakers ill...)
-

I love that album, too, and the movie--especially getting to see Alan Price pop up in scenes occasionally.
-
So, I finally announce the book and no one has boo to say?
I offered you my CONGRATS....see post #49! :)

No...that was my raisin d'etres from Fresno!
Did anyone ever see the television soap parody Fresno with Carol Burnett? Was it funny?
-
Boo!
-
Did anyone ever see the television soap parody Fresno with Carol Burnett? Was it funny?
I heard it was good. A friend recorded it for me to send to me (I was either at sea or overseas at the time) and loaned it to another friend. He never got it back. And I never saw it.
But....now that I'm pretty much over anything "Carol Burnett", I don't care to see it.
-
Did anyone here ever see a British movie entitled "Time After Time" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090176/#comment) (not to be confused with the H.G. Wells Malcolm McDowell tale) starring John Gielgud who had three sisters named April, May and Baby June?
Maltin gives it a good rating and says it's great fun.
-
I remember FRESNO. It wasn't very funny. GRAND was a much better take on the DALLAS/DYNASTY genre.
-
Summer has arrived with a vengeance. When we left the restaurant and got back to the car, it was so hot that it was hard to sit in the leather seats. Always a sure sign that summer is here and not going away any time soon.
-
I would love to see O LUCKY MAN! again. It's been decades since I saw it.
-
My friend John had the afternoon off, so he came in and wanted to see PLANET EARTH that he's heard me raving about. We watched the "Mountains" episode (#2). He was so impressed that he wanted to rush out and buy the standard definition set. I begged him to hold off and wait until he could buy a high def player so he could see the series the way it was meant to be seen. (He has an HDTV - 52" - but is waiting for the right time to suggest to his wife that they need an HD player).
-
Summer has arrived with a vengeance.
I know.
-
After he left, I watched MISS POTTER, the biographical movie about the life of author Beatrix Potter. It was a huge hit in England but sank like a stone here.
If you liked FINDING NEVERLAND, you'll like this film very much. In much the same light style of narrative (this was directed by the man who did BABE), MISS POTTER is a lovely, quiet picture.
-
Oh, the transfer is lovely. Maybe not as sharp as other films, but it's certainly a pleasure to watch, and the sound is just perfect for the presentation.

There's NO TIME like the present!
Maybe he should bring his wife over and you could show her "Shallow Seas" to seal the deal!
I know I was blown away when I watched it Friday e'en.
It was almost TOO gorgeous...TOO real....TOO clear....my breath was constantly being taken away.
And that reminds me: I watched "Finding Nemo" yesterday, too.

I'll say boo too.
I am eager to see the book cover, BK.

Good Afternoon!
Well... We were done at 4:00, and I'm not back at my apartment. And I believe I'll be embarking on my workout sometime sooner than later.
*And I asked the choreographer about some stretches, and, WOW, she showed me a stretch for my obliques that's actually quite simple, but, WOW!, does it really do the job! -Who knew obliques needed stretching out?!?!? She also showed me a great stretch for my lower back too.

Maybe you should find her favorite movie that's available in HiDef with her favorite hunky movie star. That might change her mind!

I told him I'd unhook my Blu-ray player and take it to his house and hook it up into their system if he thought it would do any good. He's still mulling that.
I'd be curious to see what it looks like on his equipment, too. He has an HDMI port that just going to waste!
-
Now, I have a little writing to do and then must clean the dining room since I didn't get to it this morning.
WBBL.

Oh, don't forget, everyone:
THE CLOSER - tonight - 9 p.m. TNT!
-
Count me in as an Alan Price fan.
And of his work in the musical "Andy Capp" too.
-
and the new CD release has a "Kismet" song. Count me in again.
-
Count me out with Potter. (I'm not a fan of the actress who "mugs" too much).

I haven't seen the film and NetFlix doesn't have it. If you watch it please post your opinion.

I enjoyed FINDING NEVERLAND, Keith wasn't thrilled. I suppose that is why I'm looking forward to MISS POTTER & he isn't interested.
-
I've finally caught up!
-
Just had to share. ;)
-
BK, great news about the new CD and book! You might also talk to your local librarians about the book. I'm sure that they'd love to hear about a new young adult book (potential series) with a strong girl protagonist! I'm going to tell the selector here about it. :D
-
Topic of the Day (for now):
movies:
Just about anything from "Singing In the Rain"
"Do Re Mi" from "The Sound of Music"
"Me Ol' Bamboo" from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"
theater (I've only seen these on TV):
"We'll Take A Glass Together" from Grand Hotel (I LOVED this when I saw it on the Tony Awards®)
"Forget About the Boy" from Thoroughly Modern Millie
-

I loved that "Turkey Lurkey Time" clip from YouTube!
-
Awwww...the post house folks where we work just brought us presents. They gave me a gift certificate to an upscale spa (never been to one!) near our new house and the guys got nice sets of Bocce balls. (Sometimes they play out back as a break from work.)
Now I get to go to the laundromat, do 8 loads of laundry (DH is starting it right now) and get back home in time for the season premiere!
-
I enjoyed FINDING NEVERLAND, Keith wasn't thrilled. I suppose that is why I'm looking forward to MISS POTTER & he isn't interested.
Well, maybe Keith would prefer a more honest picture of the James M Barrie/Lost Boys account. This BBC series is based on the book that started the whole shebang, JAMES M. BARRIE AND THE LOST BOYS.
-
Bruce, I bet the Vixter will like the new book.
I was waiting for you to show us the cover. I thought that was coming today. I have no idea why I thought that.
Andria Hofstetter has a nice ring to it.
-
Thanks elmore. Did you like it?

I'm certain that copy No. 000006 doesn't sound any better or different from copy No. 998956!
For the bidding price, I'd have thought the Beatles autographed it or something.
So...this was the "chauffeur's" copy. Wow.

Good Evening!
Ah, nothing like a bit of resistance/weight training to get one's blood flowing and muscles pumping.
*And I think I'll just that statement just like it is for now. ;D

elmore is there any new news on your new office?

Count me out with Potter. (I'm not a fan of the actress who "mugs" too much).
Ohhhhh, Tommy. Nicole isn't in it. It's Renee Zellwegger.

There are more photos over at BroadwayWorld. com. -Which happen to include recent pics of Christopher Sieber... I had heard he had put on some weight over in London while doing Spamalot, but... Then I ran into him on the street a couple weeks ago... :-\ However, it does look like he's lost some weight. -I guess he couldn't used his NYSC membership in London.
*I'm not trying to sound catty - even thought I know I am. I've just known Chris and his partner, Kevin, for a couple of years, and it was just a surprise to see Chris out of shape as it were. They were always amazingly picky whenever we would head out for dinner.

...And I really do wish I had been able to go to Broadway Bares last night, but with today's schedule... Not gonna happen. I ran into some people today who did go to the midnight show last night. Most of them did not get home until around 4:00am.
*And, what's really "funny", is that a lot of them are now EATING again, after weeks of being on very strict dietary regimens. -There's only so much make-up can do. ;) -Consequently, there were lots of empty pizza boxes and Dunkin' Donuts bags at the rehearsal hall today.
-
TCB, do you have a ticket for Phantom in Las Vegas yet?

Edi-BIG TIME VIBES FOR THE CLOSER! These vibes are for you as well as all of us fans you want the show to continue. :)
Jose-oops! I saw Annie in the spring of 1979.
Jane, if you saw ANNIE in the Spring of 1979, chances are that you saw Sarah Jessica Parker in the role.

Jane, if you saw ANNIE in the Spring of 1979, chances are that you saw Sarah Jessica Parker in the role.
Thanks. That would not have been my guess. l had saved something from the show at the time which was lost, or tossed, during one of our multiple moves.

I just received this e-mail:
Flush up to 20 Excess Pounds out of your Colon

Do they really think I am going to open that?

Hi Brian. It's nice to see you again.

TCB & Jose ;D

ROTFLOL!

Thanks for the heads up about the photos, Jose. Any time I can see Major Dodge is a good day for me.
-
I'm on "hold" while Michael tracks the clothing mail-order that I sent back 3 weeks ago tomorrow. He said the company had received word that the items were on their way back to them. Wonder where they are?
-
For the past month or so, I have been receiving copies of the magazines OUT, THE ADVOCATE, and INSTINCT. However, I don't remember ever ordering any of them. I know I would never intentionally order THE ADVOCATE. I don't care for the magazine.
-
Thanks elmore. Did you like it?
I've only seen part of the series. The book was wonderful and moving.
-
elmore is there any new news on your new office?
Not yet. Still in negotiation.

Back from a very long rehearsal with our pianist. I had to get everything perfect today so we could come out with a piano track CD to rehearse with. The big job was rewriting about sixty percent of the parody lyric my friend Kirby wrote - it was too unwieldy, and in rehearsing it, it was just too unfocused, so I made one big cut (it's to the tune of Putting It Together, but he'd used the Streisand version as his model, and it has that awful slow part in the middle - that's what I cut today). Joan didn't like a few of the lyrics, so those were the first I fixed, then I made things very specific, which required redoing whole sections (the parody lyric has to do with Joan's film and TV looping career - "Putting In The Voices") - now it really works like gangbusters and should be very funny.
-
I was going to post the cover of the book, but I have an "early" version and we changed the placement of one line of type - I'll ask Grant to send me the latest version.
-
Should I know who Mike Ruiz is?
-
What's the deal with libraries and young person books? Can you have curse words? As most of you know, the Kritzer books have none, but it was impossible to write a book centering on high school kids without using any curse words. But, there aren't many - just about four sprinkled throughout.
-
elmore, I'll add the book to my long list of books I need to read.
Continued OFFICE VIBES!

Hmm... Have you recently signed up for some raffles? Or started subscribing to some "special interest" websites?
-
Brenda's speech on serving the king has become one of my favorite scenes.
-
Hmmm...I wonder how Vixmom would feel about the Vixter reading the book. She is a bit younger than the age group you have in mind.

Not that I remember -- and I don't even drink!

The Variety review of HERRINGBONE is a bit mixed, but there are some really nice quotes:
"After the opening-night perf of "Herringbone" was aborted when star B.D. Wong gouged his thigh in a freak onstage accident requiring 30 stitches, the thesp bounced back over the weekend with a smooth, bravura turn in this solo piece marking the early-season start of this year's Williamstown Theater Festival in the Massachusetts Berkshires.
…
However, the entertainment level from the star and composers is consistently high. Skip Kennon's tuneful music and Ellen Fitzhugh's crafty lyrics capture the vaudevillian audience-friendly elements without playing dumb. Several songs ("One of Those Years," "Oh, Billy," "God Said" and "A Mother") are as fine as those in any smart contemporary hit tuner.
…
It comes as no surprise to see Wong, who first dazzled as a distaff in "M. Butterfly" nearly 20 years ago, do wonders in the parts of George's mother or grandmother or the midget's floozie. But he is also masterful switchhitting as the tough father, the vaudevillian, the lost boy and especially the disturbing Lou, who is fascinating, fun and terrifying, all at once.
Wong's song-and-dance chops are impressive, guided by Darren Lee's choreography and Dan Lipton's music direction leading the trio of onstage musicians. (Lipton also does an amusing turn as one of the show's characters.) Wong dedicates his perf to the late David Rounds, who originated the role Off Broadway in 1982."

I can't imagine that that would really be a problem. There are books geared towards young adults that have a lot of "language" and they get purchased by libraries and read by young kids all the time.
-
Off to rehearsal...have a good evening, all!
-
I think the Vixter would like it. There's nothing in the book that she hasn't heard a thousand times. I would think it's okay from thirteen on up, but maybe I'm wrong.
-
Welcome sixteen GUESTS.
-
I suppose it depends on which words are used and how they are used.
I don’t remember swear words used in books the boys read at thirteen. Of course it is very possible I missed those particular books. ;D
Having skipped most books geared for children or teens, I enjoyed reading books as Bryan read them. I’m hazy on age appropriate reading, it’s been too long (& he also progressed to adults books at a very young age). We need Vixmom here. :)
-
elmore, I'll add the book to my long list of books I need to read.
Continued OFFICE VIBES!
Rent the series. I caught the last parts of it on PBS when it was originally broadcast. Quite wonderful.
-
I added disc 1 to my NetFlix Queue. Thanks.

Loved THE CLOSER. didn't see where the plot was going at all. DR edisaurus, can't those asses at TNT get rid of those annoying damned pop-ups? Talk about taking focus off the program you're watching. Oh, look, it's Treat Williams and a blurb for his show so watch him rather than deal with Brenda's scene with Fritz. Bullshit.
-
WE HATE THOSE POP-UPS!
-
THE CLOSER has been recorded & is waiting to be watched.
'night
-
And speaking of MISS POTTER, I see it is to be released on DVD tomorrow.
-
I hate them, too. My DH said that he hoped Brenda would be popping up in Heartland just to get even!
I think there was so much of that because it was launch night and because it was "Commercial free". The show was a solid hour, and if they'd had commercial breaks we'd just be seeing full Heartland spots anyway. So I guess it's a small price to pay for no commercials.
I do like the guest star in Heartland---he was a cast member on a previous TNT show called WANTED.
-
Oh, look, it's Treat Williams and a blurb for his show so watch him rather than deal with Brenda's scene with Fritz. Bullshit.
And he's even bigger in Hi-Def!
At least he's a very nice guy, from what the producers say.
-
Absolutely loved the OHOP pix!!
-
Well... We DVR'd the continuing "Prom Night: The Musical"...
The Horror... The Horror....
-
SPOILER RE THE CLOSER
That almost-next-to-closing confession scene had both of us saying "Just hand that kid an Emmy." Not sure if those types of roles are award-eligible,. though, but he was great.
-
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOO BAAAADDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I dvd-r-ed KYLE XY and watched it promptly.
Is it me or does Matt Dallas get hotter and hotter with each passing episode? Those eyes and that voice are great for television viewing and listening; this season he also looks like he's buffed up a bit.
Someone mentioned "He's My Friend" from the film of MOLLY BROWN, I LOVE that number, too!
-
"Prom Night: The Musical" that is - not "The Closer".
*And remember, they rebroadcast the soaps on SoapNet if you happen to have that channel on your cable system. ;)
-
Thanks for posting the reviews of HERRINGBONE, DR FJL. I enjoyed reading them. And congrats to all involved.
-
So glad that DR SANDRA was able to join DRs MUSIC GUY and LAURA for pancakes! What fun!
-
SPOILER RE THE CLOSER
Made me cry every time I watched it!
And I do think there is an Emmy for featured player or something like that. There were several actors in season 2 that I thought deserved an award.
-
Congratulations to Skip on the great reviews! I hope to see the show one day!
-
Wow---they just ran a really old CLOSER promo we did months ago, before they started shooting season 3. Old footage---old graphics...wonder how that slipped through?
-
Thanks for those who tuned in and TIVOed and sent vibes. I told my producers about y'all.
Fingers crossed for a 6.8 tomorrow! (Last year we did a 6.7 so we hope to better that!)
-
I've seen some fairly recent pictures of Christopher Seibert, I assume some of the "out of shape" model. Yes, I could tell that he's heavier. Wouldn't matter one bit to me. I think he's talented and gorgeous at whatever weight he wants to weigh.
-

Actually, the category is called Guest Actor in a Drama Series and Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Of course the lad tonight can't be up for the upcoming Emmys. The season ended in May. He'd be considered NEXT season - an entire year away.
-
Page Twelve Hermione and Ron Dance!!!
-
I began my evening with a featurette on the MISS POTTER DVD that gives biographical information about the entire life of Beatrix Potter. (The movie only covers about two years in her adult life with some flashbacks to her childhood). A very interesting life to be sure, and one about which I knew very, very little.
-
I watched also on the MISS POTTER disc a featurette about the making of the film. Pretty fluffy stuff but with some good information. The three main stars - Renee Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, Emily Watson - all participated.
-
Next, I watched THE UNINVITED on TCM. Robert Osborne insisted during his intro and during the follow-up after the film that he didn't see any lesbianism at all in the movie. Unless one was deaf, dumb, and blind, I don't see how you could miss the overt infatuation the woman who ran the mental institute had with the deceased mother of the young girl. She kept a GIANT portrait of the woman in her office, for goodness sake! And she spoke to it often, calling her "My darling" and "My angel."
Pretty obvious to me.
-
I watched my first episode of THE CLOSER tonight. Crime shows aren't usually my cup of tea, but I found myself pretty quickly drawn into this one. The acting and writing were top notch. And the editing was exquisite!
The pop-ups are everywhere nowadays. When will the idiot network execs realize (or care) how much these types of ads annoy viewers?
-
And, then, delayed about 25 minutes, I watched the season premiere of THE CLOSER. I think the devastating emotions tied up in this story were much more fascinating than the actual murder mystery. Yes, I wanted to know who had committed the murders, but with such a dark story, the resolution wasn't as crucial to me as living the emotions of the survivors.
-
You're right about the pop-ups, and they're getting BIGGER. Some of those obliterated 1/3 of the screen when they came up, and they're very busy: busy enough to draw one's attention away from the focus of the show you're watching.
-
In the mail today, I got LUCY/MAME and DUBARRY WAS A LADY. So, I'll be watching the former tomorrow along with NANCY DREW, REPORTER.
I still have ENTOURAGE from last night to watch and STUDIO 60 from Thursday night, too.
But since KATHY GRIFFIN - MY LIFE ON THE D LIST doesn't come on until 10p.m., I should have plenty of time to squeeze it all in.
-

The local ABC affiliate always flashes a HUGE pop up of their newsvan driving across the bottom of the screen at approx. 10:54 every night. You can imagine how this came close to destroying key moments during episodes of LOST this season.

Infuriating to say the least, but, as you said, very much a part of the TV landscape now and not going away.
-
Guess I'll do a little writing now and then head on down to bed.
Good night!
P.S. And DR Edi, congratulate everyone at THE CLOSER for a VERY successful season premiere. I hope the ratings are worthy of the show's quality.
-
Finished the most perplexing French film, The Moustache. That may be it for this evening. I have so much to do tomorrow I want to clear my head.
-
For forty-five minutes people have been sitting here like so much fish and not posting. Well, ya got trouble, my friend, and there will be a bitch-slapping to remember if this revoltin' development doesn't change pronto.
-
I'm telling you, you will RUE the day. RUE, and I ain't kiddin'.
-
The day will be RUED because to sit there and not post is RUDE, if you get my drift and you'll get a lot more than my drift if this keeps up.
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
-
I had to turn my computer into the Mac Store for repairs this weekend, which is why I have not been on to say hello or talk of cabbages and kings. Currently I am on my mothers computer, which has dial up connection and is quite slow compared to my fancy new airport wireless.
-
I will single-handedly take us to page thirteen.
-
Ah, a customer!
-
I have some fun pictures to post :)
-
I must say I am very excited about the new book coming out and happen to think it is worlds more intelligent and interesting than the Nancy Drew movie.
-
During the Hollywood Bowl's Off-season the Lasky-Demille Barn holds Thursday night events and lectures about Hollywood's past. On these nights I help to serve concessions. On this night the event was about the Oscar-winning costume designer William Travilla (1920-1990), best-known for designing costumes for Marilyn Monroe -- including her famous white dress in "The Seven Year Itch". The lady to my right is Mary. Her and her cousin have recently been putting together the food tables and they look marvelous. We all have a great time.
-
This evening was a book signing for JIM HEIMANN'S: Out With the Stars: Hollywood Nightlife in the Golden Era. Many pictures of Hollywood in the 1940's were shown.
-
Everyone ran away, didn't they? Just sat here like so much fish, then ran away. They will RUE the day.
-
Gimme some of that food!
-
It was very good, too bad you did not come....
-
I am very sleepy and don't have time to read posts today...so, I will just say hello and DR Singdaw, thanks for the package. It arrived while I was gone and I forgot to mention it last night.
-
And then there were none.
-
Except for me and the fifteen GUESTS. Hi, fifteen GUESTS. Won't one of you come and post?
-
At long last page thirteen.
-
Will we never get to page fourteen? Not bloody likely with this extreme case of WUSSBURGERING.
-
I have nothing to say except that I cannot get to sleep.
-
I, too, am glad to hear that BK has a new book coming out soon.
-
And I want my computer back. The repair shop has had mine for almost two weeks now.
-
Well, I guess I had two things to say.
-
I did a good job of getting things watched this long weekend (I took Monday off! Hee, hee) .....watched my first ever Falcon movie THE FALCON IN SAN FRANCISCO...it was very good. I never was a fan of Tom Conway and now I do not know why.
And I got the last of the 77 Sunset Strip and Bourbon Street Beat episodes off of my DVR and onto DVDs..now to get to the saved episodes of The Rifleman and Bat Masterson....
-
And speaking of Bat Masterson...my DVR is doing weird things with that show...it records all the nightly episodes that play on the Western Channel....and those that have interesting guest starts (such as Allison Hayes) I keep so that once several are accumulated I can burn them onto DVD...well, for some reason the episodes keep disappearing off of the DVR! I do not know why this is occuring...none of my other shows have had this happen...only Bat Masterson! Strange.
And there fore I keep losing my saved Allison Hayes episodes...the remaining few I need for my collection.
-
TCM has been playing a lot of Rusty the dog movies from the 1940s...am I the only one watching them? I just can't believe that would be the case.
-

Do they have Hindi subtitles?
-
I see DR George is back from rehearsals in hell.
-
Yes, I have returned! Tonight, we worked on several scenes and tomorrow, we have our very first all-the-way-through run-through! Pray for Rosemary's baby!!
-
Actually, it shouldn't be too bad...at least not for me and the other "servants." We don't have many lines (thankfully!) and we've pretty much gotten through our stagework easily. :)
