Our esteemed host ponders:
Why is vengeance spelled like that? Why do we need the “ea” when either “e” or “a” would work just as well. I want the name of the person who came up with this spelling so that I may ridicule him from here to eternity and hell and back.
The answer, dear Bruce, lies not in ourselves, but in our pronunciation. The word has two parts, venge + ance. The "e" and the end of "venge" is needed to soften the "g". We don't want vengeance to rhyme with hang-dance.

DR Michael Shayne, thanks for posting that CANDIDE link yesterday. I lost it when my Netscape crashed and wiped my bookmarks a couple of years ago. The author's done a lot of homework, but he's still missing things. I don't have my 1956 Colonial Theatre program for Boston handy, but there are a coule of musical numbers he's missed, one of them a duet for Cunegonde and the Old Lady in Venice called "Pass the Soap." He's been to the Bernstein Collection at the Library of Congress but he hasn't been to the Hellman Collection at the University of Texas where the fourteen drafts of CANDIDE include other lyrics by Dorothy Parker. I also get the impression that while he is a fan of the score, he's not a musician.

DR FJL - Well... Just in case you still need it, want to check it out...
http://www.wmata.com
-is the link for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
*And if you do make Metro Center your hub, it does pay to take the few "calm" seconds to look around and get your bearings each time you get off the train. Going out the right exit can be tricky at times, but if you keep track of your cross streets - and whether or not your exit has artwork/booths/etc. - it makes it much easier to get to your destination once you're above ground. The exit signs are indicated by the cross streets. Also, if you happen to take the Orange/Blue Line to Metro Center, then that also involves heading up to the upper level where the Red Line is to exit... And if you happen to head up the wrong set of escalators... Well, it's easy to walk back down and to the other side, but if you're in a hurry... -Oh, and the same would apply to the Chinatown/Gallery Place/MCI Center stop. And they're you're dealing with a couple of different sets of escalators and some slightly confusing signage.
-
DR Rodzinksi - So, was/is Kati Roll Company that is closing this Friday?
Did they run out of Kats?

-
Jose - Is it a safe neighborhood?
And do you recommend we find a less confusing hotel location than the Courtyard Convention Center? Or is it the best we'll do for copmbo of price and convenience to Union Station?
-
DR FJL - There's a Gordon-Biersch basically attached to that Marriott too. If you want some good - and lethal(!) - Garlic Fries, that's the place for you! -However, there's also that great little French place across the street from Ford's Theatre, Bistro D'Oc. Decent food, decent prices. And it even has the stamp of approval from the HHW Granddads, SWW and DerBrucer.
-But you're also in a great neighborhood for eating in general, so... Jaleo, Tenh Penh, District Chophouse (great onion rings!), Zaytinya, Oyamel, indebleu, etc., etc., etc.
-
Also, Jose, is our hotel convenient to the Woolly Mammoth?
(I should have hired you as a trip planner. :) )
-
Jose - Is it a safe neighborhood?
And do you recommend we find a less confusing hotel location than the Courtyard Convention Center? Or is it the best we'll do for copmbo of price and convenience to Union Station?
It's a safe neighborhood. I think they did finally close the big nightclubs across the street and around the corner, but if they didn't, then at least you know they'll be police and security in the area at night on the weekends. -It doesn't get dangerous, there's just always issues with parking and traffic.
There is, however, lots of construction on the block, so it may not be the most picturesque area in DC right now. But it's getting back into shape.
And as far as Union Station... I believe you're only one or two "zones" away from Union Station, so the cab ride would be $9.75 tops. And the cab stand at Union Station is pretty well run and monitored, and the cabbies are always hacking for fares around the hotels. So, unless you're planning on exploring the outer reaches of DC Metro's system, cabs might not be a bad way to go.
*Oh, I keep meaning to say... I believe the closest station to the hotel is the Chinatown/Gallery Place station. That station is on the Green/Yellow Line. Metro Center is on the Red Line. So, if you did a station by station "map", it would instruct you to change trains at Metro Center and/or L'Enfant Plaza to get you close - well, closest - to your hotel. However, if you take the Red Line from Union Station to Metro Center, and then get out on the F Street Side, it's just a two and a half block walk to your hotel. If you run the addresses through on Metro's website, you'll see what I mean.
-
Will we never get to page two?
Just around the corner (a Shirley Temple reference).
-
Also, Jose, is our hotel convenient to the Woolly Mammoth?
(I should have hired you as a trip planner. :) )
Yes, it is. I'd say two blocks up and two blocks over. Or something very close to that.

The first HP book in its original first UK edition had under 2000 copies printed, the bulk of which went to libraries and schools and it's why that one sometimes goes for twenty to twenty-five thousand bucks (although the HP market in firsts has dropped significantly over the last few years).
HERE IS AN UPDATE (http://news.aol.com/entertainment/story/_a/potter-book-sells-for-18000-at-auction/20070626145709990001)
Potter Book Sells for $18,000 at Auction
AP
LONDON (June 26) - A first edition Harry Potter book fetched $18,000 at auction Tuesday.
The winning bid for the first novel by J.K. Rowling that launched Pottermania went to an anonymous buyer. Bonhams auctioneers had estimated the book would sell for between $10,000 and $20,000.
First editions of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" - published in the United States as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" - are valuable because of their rarity, the auction house said. The publishers produced between 500 and 1,000 copies in the book's first run.

Author: 'Pottermania' spells trouble
Warns real occultism permeates popular children's books

Within 24 hours after its July 2005 release, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" had sold 6.9 million copies in the United States alone – 287,564 books per hour – making it the fastest selling book in recent history.
If early buzz proves accurate, however, the whirlwind of Pottermania accompanying the July release of J.K. Rowling's seventh and final installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," will catapult the series to new heights in the world of literary accomplishment.
But, contends author Steve Wohlberg, what many people don't know is that when Harry Potter and his Firebolt whoosh off the shelf, he's not alone. A victory for Harry Potter means a victory for Wicca, a religion that practices various forms of witchcraft.
And the acclaimed DVD program, "Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged, dramatically documents Potter references to evolution, reincarnation, sorcery, divination, spells, curses and other occult factors.
Wohlberg's new book "Exposing Harry Potter and Witchcraft: The Menace Beneath the Magic," asserts that "Harry Potter" purchases are often accompanied at the sales counter with materials on Wicca. Increasing numbers of young readers also frequent Wicca websites, cast "Love and Money Spells," and practice "white magic."
…
Wohlberg feels allowing children to read Potter just isn't worth the risk. "There are much better things for our kids to read," he said. "My wife and I have a three-year-old son who loves stories. Daily we read to him stories that teach lessons about honesty, purity, truth-telling, respect for parents, faith, and obedience to God. In 'Harry Potter,' young Harry lies a lot, break rules at school, curses, throws temper tantrums, and even drinks 'firewhisky' (he's an underage drinker)."
…
"People have a right to read Harry Potter if they wish, or to be Wiccans if they choose," he told WND. "I also have a right to express my concerns. Based on the explosive popularity of real witchcraft among young people, such a warning is urgently needed."
After reading his book, Wohlberg hopes that readers will "respond with an open heart, take warning, and avoid both Harry Potter and real witchcraft in all of its forms."
"Dabbling in the occult is dangerous… but I want my readers to begin (if they don’t already) to communicate with Wiccans respectfully, viewing them not as blood-drinking evil monsters (which they aren't), but as real human beings who need additional enlightenment," he said.
As WND reported earlier, the Vatican's top exorcist has condemned the series as leading children to the devil.
Rev. Gabriele Amorth said: "You start off with Harry Potter, who comes across as a likeable wizard, but you end up with the devil. There is no doubt that the signature of the Prince of Darkness is clearly within these books."
Hmmm...seems "enlightenment", like charity, should begin at home.
Oh well, think of all the business JRand will be getting :)

I'm calm,

I haven't a worry:
Where others would hurry I stroll.
I'm calm,
I'm cool,
A gibbering fool
Is something I never become.
When thunder is rumbling
And others are crumbling,
I hum.
Hm--hmmm--hmmmmm!!!!!
HMMMMM!!!!
H-M-M-M!!!!
I must think calm comforting things,
Butterfly wings,
Emerald rings,
Or a murmuring brook,
Murmuring, murmuring, murmuring...look,
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I haven't a qualm,
I'm utterly under control.
Let nothing confuse me
Or faze me-- [yawn] --
Excuse me.
I'm calm.
Oh so calm.
Oh so--
[PSEUDOLUS (offstage):]
Hysterium!
[HYSTERIUM]
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I'm perfectly calm,
Indifferent to tensions and shocks.
Unruffled and ready,
My nerves are as steady
As rocks.
I'm calm, controlled,
So cool that I'm cold,
Aloofer than any giraffe.
When something's the matter,
Where others would shatter
I laugh. [Laughs hysterically]
I must breathe deep, ever so deep,
Think about sheep
Going to sleep,
Stop and count up to ten, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9...when
You need aplomb
And want to be calm
'Cause life is a horrible dream,
Just count up to ten
Very slowly, and then--

When you play for a Chorus Line rehearsal, do you play from the piano/vocal score? Or the Key 1 book? Or something else entirely?

Good morning, good day. Got up at eight-thirty and had some e-mails to attend to. Session with Vinnie is at one, but it shouldn't take more than an hour, then I'm not sure if I have a Joan rehearsal or not.

I don't see how there was much of a choice. The dominant twin will have Nancy's mouth.
Since Nancy will never shut up and let the child speak, the dominant twin will have to rely upon the other twin to listen.

She's an evil subhuman horror from the far-conservative side of the Republican party who makes Adolph Hitler look like Little Lord Fauntleroy. In her last scrawl, to which I not go to the flattering point of calling it a book, she poured vitriol over the 9/11 widows, and proves once again that those with teeny little very narrow minds have no more room for intellectual growth than a caged rodent.

I also refuse to believe Ann Coulter, who seems to think she's a cool blond, has a sex life: she's butch enough to be lesbian and I can't imagine any heterosexual male wanting to get near what is clearly the mythic case of vagina dentata. Oh, she also likes to refer to Democratic men as faggots.

She delights in such comparisons. She, herself, has bragged that every time she gets slammed on air or in print, her book sales rise. She is a provocateur par excellance - she has banked millions by deliberately stating things in a way intended to inflame liberals (carefully and dispassionately parsed, much of what she has printed is defensible).

;D Hmm…I’m not sure. She did lock the door to the front hallway. They live in a house that was converted into 4 apartments. The top floors enter from an outside staircase. The downstairs apartments, Craig’s, enter from the hallway inside the original front door. The lady’s door is directly opposite their door.
She seems really nice & decorated the hallway with furniture & paintings so it feels homey when you walk in. She was very helpful while Craig was moving in.

With all respect, I think this "administration" has spawned that sentiment with every fiber of its being. That includes fomenting a war (based on a lie/deceit) that, according to a recent poll, (said war) has a 70 percent disapproval rating.
I'd actually appreciate reading anything positive you might share that this administration has accomplished without inciting fear or running up the worst national debt in history.

It's very kind of you to say that, but the hatred and venom she spills has an audience who supports her and her insanity. They're a threat to both the security and safety of myself and many of my friends including you and Woody. And if someone is wishing death to a person I have respect for, I want them dead before they can achieve it.
Bill Maher can claim he likes her, but I think her madness and hatred is something he likes playing off of to keep the show hopping. I'm sure he knows she could turn on him in a second and publicly wish him dead as well, and I'm sure her narcissism is flattered by having such a public forum on which to spout her lunacy.

Back from a nice brunch with Merissa, and shall now be on my way to Vinnie's, after which I shall return.
Miss Coulter is a product of the world in which we live, and the media, who fosters and feeds her "celebrity" are just as much at fault as she is. If no one pays attention, she has nothing, just like every Internet bully whoever lived - if you don't feed them, they go away into a corner and die. She does what she does because she's allowed to do it. She looks like a cheap hooker from Sunset Blvd. and she behaves (from what I've been reading) the way she does because a) she probably believes it, but b, and more importantly, she knows it gets her air time and print and keeps her a "celebrity." In a word, she's the embodiment of everything that's wrong with this world.
-
Here's the Born in the USA story I referenced:
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/06/17/illegal.deportation.ap/index.html)
Missing mentally disabled son, illegally deported
TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) -- Maria Carvajal walks the sweltering streets of Tijuana, Mexico, clutching a photo of her mentally disabled son, who she says went missing after being deported more than a month ago, despite being a U.S. citizen.
…
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed Guzman had been deported and said the agency had done so correctly. "ICE has no reason to believe that it improperly removed Pedro Guzman," read a statement.
…
Guzman can't read or write and has trouble processing information. Carvajal fears he could be an easy victim for robbers.
The lawsuit says Guzman was asked about his immigration status in jail and responded that he was born in California of Mexican parents.
Sometime after that, the Sheriff's Department identified him as a non-citizen, obtained his signature for voluntary removal from the United States and turned him over to Customs and Immigration Enforcement, a division of the Homeland Security Department, for deportation.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, which helped file the lawsuit, says it has Guzman's birth certificate showing he was born at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
…
The Sheriff's Department has said it followed procedures correctly.
It is a great comfort to know that no US officials are to blame for any of this. The mentally disabled need to be more astute at handling their interface with the authorities. Being illiterate and having trouble processing information is no excuse for not out-witting the government.

I e-mailed her back my approval within fifteen minutes. I come back from lunch and we're not live. She's away tomorrow and now we probably won't go live until Friday - although if she hears the message I just left her, maybe she'll do the right thing and put us live later today or tonight, because I did what she asked and Friday is not acceptable.

And now for something completely different (bear in mind that some of the "facts" are incorrect. Don't know if they'll ever be corrected):
The Galaxy Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JSR_6qfXTg) (<-- click to see the sequence from "The Meaning of Life":
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
'Round the sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred million stars;
It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide.
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.
Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!
-
Gratuitously yours! :)

Was he as charmless here when he was a regular poster?

I had a rather quiet afternoon of viewing.
I began with last night's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Getting through the death of her father, the tone of this episode was much more upbeat, and there were some fun excursions to HSN (Home Shopping Network) and to a gig in Chicago.

Next I watched two MURDER SHE WROTE episodes. In the first, a man thought to be homeless is found dead in an alley with one shoe missing. Guest stars included Shirley Knight, Ed Winter, and Barney Martin.

He's polite on the CastRecording List or at least well-behaved but his hostility and general sense of superiority and condescension comes through loud and clear in his aggressively hostile private emails. I find on the rec.arts. list his rudeness and constant bitchery - making a person feel like an oaf for a typo in which countries becomes counties, for example - truly ugly, even demented. Why would the U of Toronto want him around?

Ironic speaking of Bill Maher since he was one of the guest stars in the second MURDER SHE WROTE episode I watched today. In this one, a young actress is killed impersonating the sister of the twon librarian. Among the guest stars in addition to Maher were Roddy McDowell, Christopher Stone and wife Dee Wallce Stone, and Brad Dourif playing an exorcist!

And now, back to Home Depot. I have a toilet seat to schlep to Sardi's!

Next, I rewatched Monday night's THE CLOSER. I had forgotten to comment on the splendidly funny performance by David Zayas. This is a long way from the usual menacing, threatening parts he often plays. (BTW, I hope he'll be back on DEXTER this season; his character got badly injured in an episode late in the run.)

I had forgotten that I had set the DVR to record Tony Randall in THE ALPHABET MURDERS. It's a bust as far as retelling Agatha Christie's superior The ABC MURDERS on film, but I haven't seen it in a long time and wanted to see it again.

Power Outage Shuts Trains, Traffic Lights in NYC Neighborhood
A power outage darkened a large swath of Manhattan and the Bronx on Wednesday, knocking out traffic lights, cutting subway service and forcing the evacuation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on one of the hottest days of the year.
"The entire neighborhood is out," said Phil Quintana, a building superintendent on 94th Street on the Upper East Side.
Con Edison said the blackout affected 136,700 customers in all, or more than 500,000 people.
The cause was under investigation, but spokesman Chris Olert said it was some sort of transmission disturbance. He didn't know whether the heat was a factor. "We won't even speculate on the cause yet," Olert said.
The city was in the second day of temperatures well over 90 degrees.
The outage stretched from the east side of Manhattan to the Bronx. The office of the Bronx borough president said multiple spots were affected, including the area around Yankee Stadium.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was evacuated around 4 p.m. and visitors were forced to sit on the outside steps in the sweltering heat. The street lights up and down Fifth Avenue were dark.
The power outage caused suspensions and delays along the city's subways. New York City Transit spokeswoman Deirdre Parker said the trouble started at 3:40 p.m.
At Gristede's Pharmacy at Lexington and 89th Street, power was out for a half hour until about 4:20. They operated on emergency generator.
"People came in off the street and we were selling flashlights, bottled water, candles, ice," said Barry Newman, the supervising pharmacist.
He said the traffic lights were off on the street, "and people stood outside their apartment buildings, looking nervous. Everyone was saying, 'What's going on? What's going on?"'
The Metro-North commuter railroad, which serves the northern suburbs, had to reduce the number of trains it was using, resulting in delays and crowded trains as the evening rush-hour approached, said spokeswoman Marjorie Anders.

I don't remember Mr. Farrow posting here, and certainly NEVER on this board.

Back from Vinnie's and we're now finished with Susan's CD.
-
And our latest Kritzerland release - Taking A Chance On Love: Milla Ilieva Live On Valentine's Day is now up for preorder at www.kritzerland.com. You'll see the cover art, hear sample tracks and all that jazz. Who will be the first?
-
David Campbell has been appearing on a season of "It Takes Two" - the vocal equivalent of the "Dancing" competition show where "celebrities" not known for their singing are "trained" by successful vocalists. He and his partner have I believe, made to the final.
David has appeared in short season productions here in Melbourne of Carousel and Sunset Boulevard over the last few years. DR Jose has a copy of his last CD. DR td may have more up to date information.
-
And I'll be schlepping a goddam toilet seat since I bought the wrong size at fucking Home Depot!
Shoot! I almost warned you that there were two different sizes but since you were looking on line...
They have regular and "elongated", which fits the more modern toilets. Was that the problem?

Bill Maher can claim he likes her, but I think her madness and hatred is something he likes playing off of to keep the show hopping. I'm sure he knows she could turn on him in a second and publicly wish him dead as well, and I'm sure her narcissism is flattered by having such a public forum on which to spout her lunacy.
I don't know if it's true (it IS Wikipedia, after all) but it say there that she dated Maher. Given the stories I've heard about him, he would be willing to overlook any mental deficiencies if a woman was hot.

I have no further information.
I firmly believe that Mr. C.'s recording of "The Waters of March" is nigh onto definitive.

Agreed DR td. Beautiful rendition. And I'm an Art Garfunkel fan!

Question for computer savvy hainsies/kimlets. Say I wanted to post a link to an mp3 on this or any other chat board. How does one do that? Where do I put the mp3 and link? AOL doesn't seem to have anyplace and neither does timewarner, as far as I can tell. Or can you just link to wherever it is on your computer?
-
Agreed DR td. Beautiful rendition. And I'm an Art Garfunkel fan!
When we agree, we're right. Now about Deliah Hannah. . .
-
Mr Campbell sang "Waters of March" in his New Year's Eve Concert in Perth. - The Millenium concert. Some of his charts for the set were done by DR Elmore!
-
SPOILER ALERT!!! Does anyone remember the title of a flick(I caught the Tail end of it on TV) which co-starred Richard Burton and Joan Collins as survivors of a shipwreck; When they get back to England, she hides from him because she was, all along, SPOILER ALERT, a nun.
-
Oh no is that Blood Brothers reference!
-
Mr. Campbell also sang "Waters of March" at his Rainbow & Stars engagement, and I was there.
DR elmoore sent me a copy of David's New Year's Eve Concert; it's a cd which I treasure.
-
I dunno, Brian. But I think you came to the right place to ask that question. Someone here should know the answer.
-
Oh no is that Blood Brothers reference!
I didn't bring up that show you despise. . .you did.
Deliah has many other credits to her resume other than working with David Soul. ;D

1957's SEA WIFE.

I have no problem with Deliah at all.

I told ya!

SEA WIFE will be part of FOX's dvd set devoted to Joan Collins; it also includes THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING, which fans of RAGTIME should check out.

Skip had worked on a musical version of DON JUAN DEMARCO about nine years ago and David Campbell played the title role in a workshop at the Douglas Fairbanks Theater. Skip thought the world of him, adored him, any superlatives you can think of.

Christopher Stone and wife Dee Wallce Stone, and Brad Dourif playing an exorcist!
Christopher Stone was in the movie I worked on with Gerrit Graham. Dee Wallace Stone spent a little time in Atlanta while they were shootng here. What a nice lady!!
She's in a wonderful indie film called EXPIRATION DATE that I highly recommend. We got to know the director at the Santa Fe film festival and he told me that Christopher had died of a heart attack years ago. It made me sad...they seemed like a great couple. (They even looked alike!) He was only 54.
She is terrific in this film and looks absolutely gorgeous! She remarried---to an editor. (It's rare that the star goes home with the editor and I consider this a measure of her good taste in partners!) ;D
-
Where's the answer to my question?!
-
I don't know the answer.
But I would like to post this link to the website of the wonderful film, EXPIRATION DATE:
http://www.expirationdatethemovie.com
A very cool website, too!
-
I have no idea about mp3 or xy7 or or missing links.
-
You'll have to wait until one of the youngsters logs on to answer that question, BK. Most of us old folk don't know from MP3s.
-
Tonight I am going with a friend to see a community theater production of "Hair."

I know nothin' about no stinkin' mp3s!

Tonight I am going with a friend to see a community theater production of "Hair."

I have no idea, but I would assume that there has to be some on-line hosting place, like Photobucket (for pictures) or YouTube (for video clips), but for audio files.
If it's any consolation, I just bought a copy of the Milla Ilieva CD! ;D
-
The orders are pouring in for Milla - four already.
-
Where's the answer to my question?!
I'll bet DR Jose could answer it.
One idea: Copy the url and post it here. You can disguise it in the following manner:
Type [ and then type url= and then paste the url. Close the strand with ] . Then type whatever word association you want the link to have (such as "Listen to MP3 of Guy Haines"). Then type [ and add /url and then close it with ]
-
BK - is the MP3 on the internet?
My youngster is here and might be able to help.
-
Tonight, I think, I am meeting a prospective date :o for a quick drink.
I didn't think Pittsbugh was on the way to Vegas.
-
td-Have a very nice evening.
-
Evening all! I haven't much to say but I'm here. :)
-
Hi Danise :D
-
Hi Danise.
-
We saw a fox on our road about 8:30 last night.
-
Hi Danise!
-
Let's see - the site's been live with Milla's CD for three hours, and four CD's have been sold. If Kritzerland can sell four CD's every three hours... :) :) :)
-
Funny, the coyote we have seen here have been reddish, not grey. The fox was somewhat dark & the tail appeared to be black.
-
Hi Jane, DearReaderLaura and FJL!
-
Our coyotes are brown. Not that I see many.
-
Dani (so cute & much shorter, do you mind?)-Are you relaxing for the rest of the evening?
-
DR Laura, ours might get more brown as they get older. Mostly we have just seen pups & young ones. I searching for something on a fox that isn't red.
-
The more common coyotes we have out here are Hispanic.
-
And they smuggle people over the border.
-
Hi, Danise! :D
-
DR Danise, take care of yourself. You could use a bit of pampering. Remember that we're all of us hanging on by the skin of our teeth.
Thank you Dear Elmore! I'm more then ready for someone to pamper me. :D
I couldn't sleep last night for what ever reason. The last time I looked at the clock it was 11:30.
Still waiting news about what the county is going to do and how many are going to be let go. I think that has me pretty upset. I went to work for the county because I thought it would be there. Now I have to wonder.
-
I give up. It doesn't really matter, we know it was definitely a fox that wasn't red.
-
I believe you, Jane.
-
DR Laura-lol.
-
(((Danise)))
-
Dani (so cute & much shorter, do you mind?)-Are you relaxing for the rest of the evening?
If I had made a "name" myself as a writer, singer, actor, whatever, my stage name would have been Dani Blaine for my dad's stage name that I was named after--which was Danny Blaine. ;D
Hi George!
-
I believe you, Jane.
Thank you. ;D
-
(((Danise)))
Ahhhh! :D
-
BK, did you get the mp3 thing to work?
-
Dani, don't go too many nights in a row without sleeping. If it continues try one of those chill pills-only once every so often.
-
The mp3 is on my desktop. I posted the same question to a film music board, and I've sent the mp3 to someone and he thinks he can "host" it on his site and post the link.
-
If it doesn't work, email me. My son has some ideas.
Now I am going to see "Hair."
-
Enjoy the show.
-
I'm off to dinner, then rehearsal! Have a good time at "Hair" DearReaderLaura and everyone else have a good evening!
-
I heard on the news that there is a power outage in NYC. I do hope our friends there are not part of those affected.
-
I think (therefore I am confused) that all you have to do is copy the link you want and paste it in the reply box.
-
elmore was posting earlier.
-
I think what is on the MP3 needs to be down loaded someplace before we can have a link to whatever it is.
-
Not that I know anything about this stuff :D
-
I didn't think Pittsbugh was on the way to Vegas.
All roads lead to Pittsburgh.
-
I've seen grey foxes here in Atlanta:

-
Can you stay awake that long ;D
I sent you email.
-
But not as frequently as the red fox.
-
Can you stay awake that long ;D
I sent you email.
I replied.
-
And I did again :)
-
Danise-You still here? Isn't it time to get some sleep?
-
I was trying to find a MP3 to post but I guess I'm just to tired.
BTW, I'm thrilled to see that Babylon 5 lives! There is a NEW DVD called: Babylon 5 - The Lost Tales.
I just had to have it so I preordered it and can't WAIT to receive it.
I also want the 2nd Season of Beauty and the Beast. I loved that show. I'll get that one a bit later.
-
Danise-You still here? Isn't it time to get some sleep?
Yes, Mom. ;D I think I will be heading on.
Have a wonderful evening all!
-
Milla just told me her office was affected by the power outage. It seems the effects were mainly on the East side.
-
Goodnight, Danise. Sleep-well vibes to you.
-
Well, let's just do a test, shall we? Nope, there's nowhere to link TO. It's just sitting on my desktop like so much fish.
-
On the film music board, there was some discussion about the old Bay Cities CD of Korngold's Elizabeth and Essex, which was reissued by Varese. My memory of it was that we all thought it was great (it was Bay Cities first big original orchestral recording), but when I heard it a few years ago that I was astonished that the sound wasn't at all what I remembered. And now, it doesn't sound half-bad. There's some sketchy playing in the opening track, but the sound, while a big "digital" and harsh on the brass, is not an embarrassment.
-
Yes, Mom. ;D I think I will be heading on.
:) Sleep well!
-
I give up. It doesn't really matter, we know it was definitely a fox that wasn't red.

Cilla - all they've told me is the dates occur between September 19th and 30th. I'm trying to pin them down re actual dates and theater, but I think they're still planning. I'll post here as soon as they get back to me.
Cool. I have a 2 - 3 day trial (probably 2 day) starting on Sept. 17. I'm in the process of setting another trial date I've already told them I'm not available the end of September or beginning of October. So that should cover it.
-
I also want the 2nd Season of Beauty and the Beast. I loved that show. I'll get that one a bit later.
It won't be relesed until 10 July.

In a matter of hours I will be on my way to NYC.
-
I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open...I hope to sleep very well on the plane.
I spoke to DR Elmore on the phone. He was having dinner with DRs Musicguy, Jose, and Jason. No electical problems where they were for which I am grateful.
-
Have someone to watch the house, the dog, and the cat. Am packed and just about ready to head off to the airport. I will be there early but have my laptop so can cruise the internet or perhaps play a few games of BOOKWORM!
-
Have a nice nap on the plane. Vibes it leaves on time.
-
TD, quick or long, have a nice date!
You never did mention if you were going to meet us in NY for the HHW get together?? We sure wish you would!! It will be quite the partay!
-
Thanks Jane!
-
From Cilla: ;D especially considering the work you do.
It's possible your boss was so private about the letter & gift as he was more generous to you than to other people. Nice way to leave after everything else.
Your upcoming trials, are they new immigration clients or past clients?
Ok, just to get this over...the day was quite uneventful, not a card - not much of anything. Just a "Are you coming back when you get done at the jail? No? Well, good bye then." And there you have it. It was clearly a slap in the face, but I didn't let them know it bothered me. I did email 2 judges secretaries to let them know that since my office didn't have the usual coffee/cake for me, I was having an open house. Both of them were outraged that the people in my office were so inconsiderate, and they both talk to everyone. So, they showed their true colors, but I will have a wonderful open house on my birthday with all the people who would have gone to the going away party and I am now free. The best thing is it will be a celebration of a new start and that's a much more positive thing. Mom said she wants to send me money to buy a nice flower arrangement for the conference table for my open house. That will be very nice.
As for the trials, they are criminal cases I am taking with me. The one set for the 17th should really happen, the other probably won't but you never know.
-
Keith said the shape of the gray foxes don’t work for him. This photo of a red fox seems more appropriate, and the tail is dark. Probably the body looked darker due to the lack of light.
Gray, Red, it was definitely a fox.
-
And what kind of tattoos are you going to get? ;D
;D LOL, DR Edi! I figured it wouldn't take long for someone here to make a comment like that!
No tattoo. Not the kind administered with needles nor the kind performed by the Army band. We got to the NW quadrant of the Washington Monument grounds, where the website said it would be. The park rangers told us that it had been moved to Ft. McNair, 4th & P Streets, so we got a taxi to take us down there. The MPs told Richard it had been cancelled due to threat of thunderstorms. So the driver took us to the seafood row nearby. We wandered around the markets and then went to one of the restaurants.
Even though I didn't get a tattoo, earlier this afternoon I did have my first ever in my life manicure.
My mother has emailed me and DS Rob has called to tell us about the power failure in NYC, but I haven't been able to find anything about it.
-
Did you offer to take the cases with you?
-
Now, Jane -- you can't just say that and then leave.

The orders are pouring in for Milla - four already.
I just put in my order. I think this is the CD I was lucky enough to get a preview of when I dined at FJL and Skip's house with Milla and ?? oh, oh I forgot who else was there.... The point is it's a great CD and I'm really looking forward to hearing it again. And it was great fun getting to know Milla.

Did you offer to take the cases with you?
Yes, I am taking 3 cases. Two of them are females who have been abused by paramoursand have real trust issues, they didn't want to change lawyers, especially to a male lawyer, (because of their past problems with men) plus they like me. So I'm taking them with me. The other case is just sort of a mess and I didn't want to leave my client with someone who didn't know the history of the case. I had other clients who really wanted me to keep their cases, but I got their cases to a point where anyone can finish them. I also gave them my phone number and will take their calls if they are having problems with their new lawyer.
I am still taking court appointed federal criminal cases. I will be on what they call the Criminal Justice Act panel. It's a list of lawyers who are allowed to take court appointed cases. You have to apply and have experience etc to be allowed to take federal appointments. The states are generally a lot more lenient, but they pay a lot less money. There are lawyers who make a living on these cases and my former boss wants to get me as many as possible to help me pay the bills in the beginning of my practice. The judges and other federal court employees are all very pleased I'll still be taking the cases so I will still be in court from time to time.
-
DerBrucer-cute fox.

So, DR Elmore, how did your toilet seat go over at Sardi's?
-
Most of the time is probably better than most offices.
-
So, DR Elmore, how did your toilet seat go over at Sardi's?
;D ;D
-
The power failure was over by 5:00. I believe the news said it affected the East Side from 77th Street and up.
Yes, I took the toilet seat to Sardi's and checked it along with my and DR MusicGuy's umbrellas. We had a lovely dinner interrupted by an unpleasant phone call from DR MBarnum, who will call me tomorrow morning from JFK around 8:30. This gives me a chance to pull out the gin and start drinking. I will hopefully semiconscious by the time I meet him.
After dinner, I was forcibly taken to XANADU, which I found to be hard driving and arch camp in almost every aspect. There is some wonderful musical staging and the band and vocal arrangements were great. The whole show is silly to an offensive degree and all oerformances and attitudes are in quotations with an extremely high smirk factor. My beloved Mary Testa is outrageous as always and her Medusa is a sight to behold. The audience seemed to love it but I found it a musical for people who think musicals are silly and campy. Since someone paid good money for a ticket for me, I know I don't sound very appreciative. I did laugh, sometimes against my better judgment, and I loved the company I was with.
DR Ginny, I was thinking that perhaps you and Richard should meet DR MBarnum and me around 5:00 at the box office for CURTAINS. If there's any ticket problem, we should know before Friday so I can do some trouble shooting,
-
Thanks everyone for letting me vent over the past who knows how long. I can't believe it's finally over. It just occurred to me I can stay up all night if I want to...lol. I feel like a kid having summer vacation. Even if it is only a short time.

When we were in Torremagiore, shooting in Sacco's home town, we were surprised to find that the toilet in our hotel had no toilet seat. Peter's room was the same.
We went out to a coffee shop, and then a restaurant for dinner. No toilet seats in sight.
We were starting to think it was a cultural thing, like those bathrooms that just consist of a hole in the floor where you hunker down,
The next day, on our way out of town, we passed a place that wasn't an official dump, but a place where everyone ditched stuff.
There were over a dozen toilet seats in the piles of refuse!
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
-
DR ELMORE exactly what OPTIONS are you looking for in your toilet seat?
The possibilities are endless!
-
If Fox is doing a Joan Collins DVD boxed set, wonder if they'll put in THE VIRGIN QUEEN. Of course, that's really a Bette Davis movie, but I want that movie in a fabulous anamorphic transfer.
Actually, I read somewhere that Fox wants to do a Bette Davis box, but other than PHONE CALL FROM A STRANGER and THE VIRGIN QUEEN, what else do they have of hers (not counting ALL ABOUT EVE which is already available). THE NANNY perhaps?
-
I don't know, DR Cillaliz, a toilet seat at Sardi's will be hard to top!
".... a stormy night....an icy gin....
.....a toilet seat at Sardi's....."
"... I'll drink to that...."
We had a wonderfully wonderful evening, and it was great fun to kidnap dear Larry, and have good eats, and see just a silly fun mindless show. At least it was what I needed ! :D
-
I began my evening's viewing with THE FAMILY STONE. I did enjoy the film, and the characters are interesting.
I do regret that the coupling switches were so blatantly telegraphed; really brought the film down a notch or two for me.
-
And as usual, being with dear Jose and dear Jason, is like being in between a pair of kind, sweet, caring, and talented bright lights.
I'm lucky to share such a fun evening.
-
Next I watched ZERO HOUR! I had never seen this film, and, oh boy, did AIRPLANE! take every situation in it and play it for all it was worth.
AIRPLANE! aside, I enjoyed the melodrama of the film, and the transfer looks very nice. Sharp, anamorphic, with just a couple of stray scratches.
One irritation. I was heartened to see my beloved John Ashley's name in the credits. Imagine my utter dismay when he turns up as an Elvis-type singer on a TV in the background of a scene.
-
ATTENTION DR BEN ----------

I started another MURDER SHE WROTE episode, but I only got a little ways in. I'll finish it tomorrow. It's the one where Jessica is in Moscow and has Tony Geary, David McCallum, and Jeremy Kemp as guest stars.
-
I finished the evening with another excellent episode of RESCUE ME. A truly shocking ending but some fun sequences earlier with Probie/Mike and Tommy on a man-date

I'm going to sign off, and enjoy a nice sleep now. But I have to tell you that due to the incredibly sweet, helpful, and outgoing nature of dear Jose, a major "personal one-to-one" connection and introduction took place this afternoon. It is something that I've wanted for a long time for Hopeful Heart, and Jose made it happen easily and effortlessly, and in a relaxed environment.
THANK YOU Jose......

Goodnight dear Esteemed, busy, and buffed BK--
(..... goodnight Lucy -- get a heavier lens filter! )

Heading down to bed myself.
Good night!

Good Evening!
On a wonderful day like today...
:)

DR singdaw - I play from the piano/vocal score during ACL rehearsals. -With the proper inserts for the half-new version of "Music and the Mirror", the transposition of "Dance: Ten, Looks: Three", and the ending of "What I Did for Love".
-
DR MusicGuy - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
And it was my pleasure to introduce you to Baayork today. -And I guess it was in the cards for you to meet up today since our rehearsal ended early, and you let yourself have a lazy morning. The timing was perfect. I could tell she really appreciated meeting you and sharing your stories and memories of Rick Mason. I'm sure today will not be last time you two connect. I'm also pretty sure you can consider yourself part of the A Chorus Line Family now.

bk - You can host files on AOL and on TimeWarner - both services provide you with FTP space.
On AOL, just got to Keyword: My FTP Space. There's an FAQ and guide there. Just be sure to keep track of the resulting URL - and, remember, capitalization counts.
On TimeWarner, you just go "your" homepage, and their should be a link to FTP space somewhere there. It would set up in the same "space" you would set up your own website/pages.

And, yes, I saw Xanadu again tonight.
And I liked it again tonight.
And they didn't seem to have any sound problems tonight.
And there were a couple of new touches in the show tonight too.
And, yes... Cheyenne Jackson. :D

".... a stormy night....an icy gin....
.....a toilet seat at Sardi's....."
"... I'll drink to that...."
We had a wonderfully wonderful evening, and it was great fun to kidnap dear Larry, and have good eats, and see just a silly fun mindless show. At least it was what I needed ! :D
You forgot to mention The Little Pie Shop!
:)

And the Hot Fudge Sundae, the Banana Split and Coconut Layer Cake(!) at the Brooklyn Diner.

*And that's one of the three or four desserts we have yet to sample at the Brooklyn Diner. ;)

-And that Coconut Layer Cake really has to be one of the best coconut layer cakes I've ever had. The cake part was like a sponge or genoise - nice and light-textured, with a good crumb. Not the usual heavy, dense white cake layers. There were nice layers of lemon curd between the layers, and the just the right amount of not-to-sweet frosting and toasted coconut. A true YUM!

Is it me, or does anyone else think "Hair" is dreadful?
-
DR Cillaliz - Onward and Upward!

Well... It's certainly not a show for everyone. However, it's also one of those shows that either done well, or it shouldn't have been done at all. Good productions of Hair are very hard to come by.
-
DR td - Back from your "date" already?
-
DR Ginny - I'm sorry I missed your call earlier. I hope you had a satisfactory dinner. ;)

I believe that.

SAFE TRAVEL AND GOOD WEATHER VIBES TO DR MBARNUM & DR GINNY AND DH RICHARD!!!!!

Fifteen minutes before curtain, my cell phone rings. A church member was calling to tell me she set off the alarm. So I had to talk her through how to get it off and then call the security company to let them know it was okay and to cancel the police dispatch.
-
And now I think I should go make sure that she got the church locked up and alarmed correctly.

Sounds like a good idea.

I've just finished reading "Michael Toliver Lives". I'm not disappointed in anyway. How wonderful to feel so comfortable inside a novel.

I am here at the Portland Airport and it seems that because of thunderstorms or some such thing in NY that my plane will be late....really, really late. I was supposed to leave at midnight but I was told that it would be 4:00 AM at the earliest before we could leave (seeing as how the plane I am to be on has not left Jfk yet). There are several passengers from a NY bound Delta flight that was cancelled who are hoping to get on my flight.
I had better e-mail Elmore that I will not get into Manhattan until around 1:30pm at the earliest....I surely hope I don't miss the big Thursday night HHW Indian dinner :(
-
Well, 'tis been a long day, and I have another short audition session tomorrow before the HHW NYC Madness starts to kick into full gear tomorrow night.
Goodnight.
-
Aw, rats, MBarnum. I'm sorry you are stuck in the airport all night.

Hmm... I was wondering about that. The current weather map here in NYC has lots of "red" spots on it. And the storms are supposed to continue throughout the overnight hours. As long as you get here safe and sound sometime tomorrow, that's all that matters. You, we can always do Indian food Friday, Saturday an/or Sunday.
-
DR MBarnum - I just checked the forecast for tomorrow... Storms all day right now. I'd see if you can go ahead and rebook on a later flight tomorrow - this way you can avoid getting delayed further. -And then you could also head back home for a bit.
-
I assume DR Elmore has been praying to Thor.

I'd better meet Baayork one of these days. I mean, I met her way back when at the Shubert here in LA, but it would be fun to reminisce with her.
