Title: LATENESS BECOMES ME

Well, you've read the notes, the notes became you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - lateness becomes them, too, if you can believe it.

Good morning, all!  Another day at Toyland, and then back to the Kevin Spirtas charts; these two huge musical medleys are enormous.  I have the same schedule tomorrow.  My wonderful colleague Tom Murray, who heads off to London soon for the Donmar Theatre production of PARADE, begins a workshop of HONEYMOON IN VEGAS on Monday, so the week leaves me plenty of time to work on Kevin's charts with intermittent treks to the NYPL.

Our lease still isn't signed so keep those new lease vibes coming!

TOD:
Double Indemnity: I love him in this film
I know he's in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS but I dislike this film so much I couldn't tell you what kind of a performance Mr Robinson gives!

Good morning all.  I’m just in from my sleep study.  Well, to be honest, I had to go and wash my hair first because of the goop the tech had to put in it for the sensors.

It was very interesting.    I did found the chest straps a bit uncomfortable—tight but they had to be to measure my breathing.  Then I had something on my finger to measure my oxygen levels.  I’d seen that many, many times with Mom so I knew what it was and what it was for before he put on me.  Then he put a kind of reverse oxygen probe in my nose to see how much I used my nose to breath.  After that came the “snore mike”.  I laughed when he put that on because I told him if I snored as loud as Thelma said I did, he’d  better have that thing on low volume because I would blast him out the booth or room or wherever his equipment was set up.  He thought that was funny but said he take it under advisement.

After being wired up and looking like Medusa, I had a very easy time falling asleep.  I took my own pillow so I would be sure to be comfortable.  I didn’t watch TV (not that I could with my contacts out) or read the book I brought with me.  I just laid in bed and drifted off.

I confess I hedged my bet by making myself mow the front lawn the night before and I stayed up until ten thirty so I would be tired and go to sleep.  It worked.  I could hardly wait to lay down.  I  also couldn't drink any kind of stimulant the day of so I was a walking zombie at work.

I did hear the next person come in (he was scheduled for a ten o’clock arrival).

I only woke up once because I had to go potty.  It was neat that the tech  knew right away that I was awake and was on the intercom to ask if I needed to use the restroom almost as soon as I opened my eyes.   That was about three this morning.

I asked him if I was snoring and he said I was neck and neck with the guy in the next room.

After I got back into bed and reattached to everything, I had a little bit of a hard time going back to sleep.  I knew I was only supposed to stay until about five so I kept waiting for time.  I thought I heard the guy in the next room snoring as well.  I didn’t think I would go back to sleep when the next thing I knew I heard a “tap, tap, tap” sound.  Turned out it was from a Cardinal at the window.

The tech immediately told me he would be right in and he was.  He started taking all the wires off of me and I asked him if I stopped breathing during the night.  He said he couldn’t tell me that—which makes me think I did because he was pretty forthcoming with telling me that I snored and that I did a lot of dreaming. He said I would have to wait for the doctor’s report.

In fact, it was about seven in the morning and the reason he didn’t wake me at five was because I was having “rolling REMS”, every time I slowed down from one cycle, I started another.  So I must have been dreaming one dream after the other.

I remember some of them but only bits and pieces.

He said they don’t wake people up when they are in REM sleep because that’s when they get some of their best readings.  He did say he got a lot of information on me and that he thinks the doctor will be able to help me.  I hope so.

I’m just sorry I finely got this test when I am so stressed out.  I don’t want the doctor to think this is something that just started happening.

So when I left, the other guy was long gone and I stopped off at McD’s to get myself a McGriddle egg and sausage sandwich.

I think that sleep tech has a pretty neat job.  If I was younger, I would have considered going back to school to learn to do it.  Of course, it would be all night work but I think I could get used to it.

Right now, believe it or not, I feel very tired and I think I might go in and lay down for awhile.

I really do hope they can help me.

The dogs were sure glad to see me.  Poor things, they don’t know what is going on.

Got a chance to catch up and post.

BK - Interesting (and unlike them) that that financial element never came up in conversation with NYMF before they made their public announcement.  Is it nowhere in the online info?  When would you have found out if you hadn't read the contract so carefully?

That's all I'm able to post for now.  I'll probably check in tomorrow morning.  Best wishes from D.C.

Yep, a bit of false advertising on the NYMF website -- talks about a $500 fee, but nothing about the $5,000 fee -- so one is lead to believe there is only a $500 fee.

BK, did they say why only $500 for the link shows, but $5,000 for the nominated/recommended shows? Why not the same fee across the board for all the shows -- why the big jump to $5,000 for a recommended/nominated show?  ???

I just realized that Sept 30th I have already spent several hundred dollars on an animal rescue benefit in NC. Tickets to this were my brotehr's birthday present, because I wanted him to meet the amazing woman who is having this.

Also, one of my favorite clients is getting married that weekend. But...I don't know his fianceé and he hasn't sent out invitations yet, so I don't even know if I'm invited. (I would be disappointed if I wasn't, but since I don't know her, it wouldn't surprise me.)

I will have to figure out how to work this out so I can still go to THE BRAIN!

(You can put me down for $100 anyway...)

Sad, isn't it. I don't have time to watch all the stuff I have, much less expand my options.

My DVD player is practically new. It has a recorder but I've never figured out how to use it. The cable guy said the only way I could record off-air was to buy their comcast TiVo thingy.

But whenever this one bites the dust, I will go for the multi-region one!

Tonight is the HBO-HD premiere of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. I have the DVD, of course, and since I did, I didn't spring for the Blu-ray version of the film. Tonight, I'll get to see what the high definition version looks like. If it's a major jump from what I already have, I may give that disc to my friend Jeff and upgrade to the Blu-ray version. If I don't see much difference (and sometimes the differences aren't pronounced like with TERMINATOR 2), I'll just keep what I've got.

I know! My DH, who calls himself my resident AV geek, hasn't figured it out yet, and it's very inaccessible right now, because we have one cat who likes to get back behind everything and macrame the eletrical cords.

When we move, we will have to figure out new solutions since the TV will be in a bookcase. It we can't figure it out how to make it work then, I may have to have a phone consultation with you.

Speaking of...we've been painting the last week, again. It takes forever on this house, where you have to repair and undo crappy work done in the past. But we're getting there. It's just so SLOOOOOOOOWWWWW!

Among the coming attractions yesterday, were trailers for "Captivity" (now that one looks like a gruesome horror flick), "Shoot 'Em Up" (Clive Owen is in it, so I may give it a chance), and "Stardust".  WOW!  What a cast: Robert De Niro, Claire Danes, Sienna Miller, Charlie Cox, Ricky Gervais and Peter O'Toole!  Now that one certainly looks interesting.

I am amazed at EDISAURUS' stamina! She works double shifts, then goes home to paint the house!

I also empathize with how looonngg these projects can take. Marvelous Matt and I have been busting our respective buttchecks (if DR LAURA can say it so can I!) since early January to finish up the projects on my house. We've had several minor set-backs recently, but, thankfully, nothing major. And we're over two months behind schedule. Both Matt and I have a lot of renovation experience, including estimating these projects. One tends to forget that things don't always go smoothly when doing the estimate. I also neglected to factor in MERCURY RETROGRADE!!

And as for undoing crappy work, I learned the other day that the crew who painted the exterior of my house last fall "repaired" the rot on the outside of one of the french doors using joint compound instead of bondo or a consolidator. It looked fine at first--I checked it--but, less than a year later it's no longer adhering and must be undone and then done properly. Oh, yes. I do know about shoddy work. Of course, had I been pleased with the work they did last fall I would have hired them to do some of the interior painting. But I don't think they look that far ahead.

Sorry about the rant. It's most exasperating.

And speaking of DVDs... And aren't we always...

The Virgin Megastore is in the midst of their ever-present, ever-ongoing "$10 Sale".  While going through the bins the other day, I noticed that they had a bunch of 2-disc sets on sale for, what else, $10.00.  And some of them normally retail for $25.00 or more: the three James Dean flicks ("Giant", "East of Eden", "Rebel Without a Cause"), the still sort of newish 2-disc set of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", and a couple of other "steals".  Decisions, decisions.

However, I also came across a special anniversary edition of "Fletch".  Did we really need a Special Anniversay Edition of "Fletch"?  Alas, that was just on sale for $15, but still.. ???

Morning, all...

DR Danise: Glad to hear your sleep study went well. My first technician was not as amiable as yours sounded...she barely spoke with me while I was there.

At my follow-up with the neurologist, he told me that I have sleep apnea and I was waking up an average of 27 times per hour, which he called a moderate level of apnea. Some people wake up up to 80 or 90 times per hour, meaning they NEVER get sleep. He also told me that the apnea was the main reason I had to get up to pee during the night. It's not necessarily that you HAVE to pee, it's that you stop breathing and wake up and realize you have a full bladder. If you were having rolling REMs, though, you most likely have a minor case of apnea (if you have apnea at all), as most of us never get to REM sleep because we keep waking up when we stop breathing.

I had to go back for a second sleep study with my CPAP machine so they could determine the pressure levels that would work best for me. It was amazing how I fell asleep and had probably the best night of sleep I'd had in 15 years. I woke up the next morning feeling so good! Then I got on the subway and thought I was going to vomit. Seriously. I think because it was the first time my body had truly rested in so many years, a great deal of the toxins that I'd been holding onto were released, much like they are after a massage, and it made me nauseated. Once I got my own machine, though, that wasn't a problem...I just started having crazy dreams for a couple of weeks while my body adjusted to getting real sleep.

It's fascinating how much goes on when your body's "at rest."

Since I've lost so much weight now, I can actually sleep fairly soundly without the CPAP machine, though I wear it every night just in case...

I would not call me a big Eddie G. Fan:

My absolute favourite of his would be KEY LARGO...when he's lascivously whispering in Lauren Bacall's ear and the way he treats poor Claire Trevor after she sings her pathetic song.  Great stuff!  And:  "Yeah, yeah!  That's what I want.  More, more!"

I also like him in Double Indemnity and The Sea Wolf.

Good morning all.  I’m just in from my sleep study.  Well, to be honest, I had to go and wash my hair first because of the goop the tech had to put in it for the sensors.

So, this was at a Catholic hospital?

I don't want to work two shows today. Actually, I do because I want to see just how much money I can make this week, but the idea of being stuck in that theatre for 10 1/2 hours makes me sort of sick. These five show weekends kill my shoulders - I get very tense from folding all the shirts and holding up puppets and being on my feet all day and night. Whatever...I'm whining. It's Broadway. I'm happy to have a job.

It's supposed to get up to 97 degrees tomorrow. I didn't approve that. Who's in charge here? Someone get my agent on the phone...and the Equity deputy.

The NYMF fee is very annoying and, as has been pointed out, more than confusing - I mean, I saw the same $500 that everyone else saw.  That's why I thought the contract was a mistake (and I posted about it here immediately).  I have since found out that a) this is the first year they're doing it, and b) they're trying to call it a box-office advance (although that's not what it's called in the contract).  I've asked my general manager to speak to them about it because he's done NYMF shows before and is doing a couple this year, so he knows the people.

Here you can see my third floor accommodations at Chez Elmore. It was quite comfy, when it wasn't raining anyway. It would have been even nicer if Larry had not always been feeding the birds by throwing birdseed onto the fire escape. He kept mentioning something about a scene in THE BIRDS, but I am not certain what that was all about.

Anyway, it was breezy but pleasant, if a bit difficult to maneuver while getting dressed in the morning.

After two wonderful days with Elmore he pushed handed me over to our very own Rodzinski who has recently moved into a cool 3rd floor walk up just a couple of blocks from Times Square, on W 44th.

I could tell that Elmore was broken up about my move. He even had Rodzinski in tears. I thought that was very sweet.

Here is a shot of Rodzinski's apartment building which also has a very nice fire escape. However, Tom had the for foresight to purchase a lovely, large couch just in time for my visit and so I was able to sleep indoors, despite objections from Elmore who thought it was much healthier for me to be in an open air environment.

I forgot to take photos of inside Rodzinski's apartment, but it is tastefully decorated with some of the coolest retro items you can imagine!

Jeanne asked:
Quote
Out of curiosity, who or what (organizations) usually funds such things?

I wish I knew, Jeanne.  Oh, how I wish I knew.  I've spoken to some who've been through NYMF before, and they speak rather vaguely about rich uncles and generous friends and bake sales.  I've long feared that this wonderful opportunity, this grand and bully pulpit, is really only available to the rich and well-connected.

My musical Such Good Friends is a traditional large-cast show, in the grand tradition of, say, Bells Are Ringing or Guys and Dolls.  There’s no way it will cost less than $20,000

Why not the same fee across the board for all the shows -- why the big jump to $5,000 for a recommended/nominated show?

There's a rationale, but it takes a whole lot of thinking to understand it:

Such Good Friends was one of 400 submissions to NYMF's Next Link.  The idea is to give a boost to shows and writers who've languished in obscurity, like me.  But there's no rule.  Experienced practitioners are welcome to submit.  All sorts of readers weed through the 400 to find the best 36 and these are sent to the Grand Jury.  The Grand Jury consists of top Tony-honored Broadway people, Victoria Clark, B.D. Wong, Rachel Sheinkin, Margo Lion, Adam Epstein, Casey Nicholaw and they select 18 shows that will get a slot in the festival.  None of this selectors know who wrote the shows or whether they've been produced before.

Then, the people who run NYMF - Kris Stewart, Isaac Hurwitz, Jess McLeod et al - think about what sorts of shows aren't in the festival.  It's easy to imagine them saying "You know what this festival needs?  A funny sci-fi spoof!  Wasn't there one playing in L.A. some months ago?"  And so, these Powers That Be contact those Esteemed and Experienced theatre pros (such as BK) whom they'd like in the festival, and have usually done their shows in another city.

So, the rationale for that $5,000 has to do with the idea that the Invited Works already have a track record, already have the wherewithal to stake 5 grand to the Festival, knowing that box office receipts will pay it back.  The Next Link shows, which often have never been seen before on any stage (like Such Good Friends) pay $500 to participate, and don't get the same box office split, unless every seat sells.  Those 400 submissions, by the way, all paid $50 to be considered.

Whew!  That's a long and complex explanation.  And hardly complete.  But I hope it begins to answer your question.

OK.. Now I really gotta run... Although, I guess I should mention that I received one of three(!) outstanding payments/checks in this morning's mail.  Of course, it was for the smallest amount.  Last time, they bundled a bunch of my invoices together and put them together in one check, so... We shall see what the mail man brings me on Monday - although, I do find it "strange" that if three checks were cut and mailed on Thursday, that all three did not reach me at the same time.  Not even two out of three.  Ah, well...  OK...

Good afternoon all.

I took myself a little nap because nothing tires a gal out like being sleep tested!   ;D

Another lost day as far as getting any thing done around the house.  That's ok.  I have plenty of time to start the painting.  I'm just going to take it easy today and watch some movies.

Thanks for telling me about your experence, DR Jason.  Maybe I don't stop breathing.  I just thought it was funny that the tech told me everything else but when I asked that question, he wouldn't say.

I was lucky that I had such a nice Tech.  He explained what everything was for as he was putting it on me and he did answer most of my questions.  He told me he had two daughters and a cat and we chatted about my dogs.

It is a bit scary to think that you might stop breathing durning your sleep.

DR Barnum, I loved your pictures.  I wish I could have been there as well.  Until everything settles down and I know I have a job, maybe I will be able to plan a vacation to NYC.  I think I need some time away with some good friends.

One thing for sure I know that even if I have my job there won't be any raises this year.  Sigh.

I seem to be catching the drift that there might be some sort of gathering in September.  I'll just have to hope that I can make it at this point.  I wish I had the money to give towards the play as well but again, until I know for sure if I have a job, I have to cut my spending.  It's hard getting used to not having so much extra money like I did when Mom was alive.

I've already had a couple of close calls of being out of funds at the bank.

I'm very aware of the water running or a light that's on now.  You learn quick that is way of spending money as well.  ;)

Didn't finish "Mame" last night.  However, while Ms. Ball is obviously miscast and Ms. Arthur looks horrid, it's a beautifully shot film.  "Loving You" is now one of my most favorite Jerry Herman songs.  I'm sure I'm totally in the minority with my review.

Today is Tech Day #1 for Beauty and the Beast lots of hurry up and wait and standing around.  I do enjoy this day, I hope it won't dissapoint.  Last night, the castle jumped the track and was slightly damaged.  I think by the end of the night, they fixed it, I hope it holds up today (and for the next 3 weeks for that matter).

Saturday greetings!  On my way to work yesterday, I got to coughing so hard I almost turned around and headed back home.  Today, I visited my doctor for the second time this week and was given a shot of Kenalog and yet another allergy med.  At least he says I don't have pneumonia.

DR Danise - you sound like a very cooperative sleep-study patient.  Hope the results are conclusive and helpful.  Glad you enjoyed the postcard of "our" corner!

I have no photos as exciting and as glamorous as Barnum and the HHWs.  I hope Mike got the Badge Number of those two officers.

Here I am in Vegas.  Looking at this photo, maybe I shoud tell everyone that I ran into Stockard Channing.

Well, you've read the notes, the notes became you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - lateness becomes them, too, if you can believe it.

Some cows are already home:

Some are reluctant:

Looking at the picture of the desserts makes my mouth water and for whatever reason I was wondering if anyone here has ever had Baked Alaska or a Floating Island?  I've read about them in books but have never had either.

When we returned home Monday evening, there was a package here that DH Richard said was a present for me.  He'd ordered it from one of the vendors at the ALA exhibits and it's now hanging between the bookcases in our breakfast room:

Baked Alaska is served straight from the oven to the table.

The flaming dish is called Bombe Alaska.

My concert last night was a great success.  The Red Rock Center for the Arts is a fabulous venue, lovingly and beautifully restored.  The seating capacity is 275, and we had at least 300 people show up.  It went very well, and I was pleased.  No word yet on exactly how much we raised, but estimated to be in the $4,000 - $5,000 range!  Wish we could do it again and send the proceeds to The Brain seed money!

The Holland America site shows baked Alaska with flames, and without.  I have seen it served with flames and called baked Alaska-not that it makes it correct.

In fact, Bomb Alaska makes sense.  There wasn't any rum on our baked Alaska.   Can you taste the rum after it has been burned off?

"A variation called Bombe Alaska calls for some dark rum to be splashed over the Baked Alaska. Lights are then turned down and the whole dessert is flambéd while being served.

Jeanne asked:I wish I knew, Jeanne.

There’s no way it will cost less than $20,000There's a rationale, but it takes a whole lot of thinking to understand it:

Thank you, NOEL, for taking the time to explain your experience with NYMF. I wish you the best for discovering a rich uncle you never knew you had or a really STUPENDOUS bake sale!

Good afternoon, kids. I am really enjoying the photos!

We looked at the doorframe and fixed the thing that set off the alarm; we called the alarm company service number and left a message. I hope they call back soon. I don't like having the alarm set if the alarm company doesn't get the signal.

On Sunday Rodzinski and I shopped around an outdoor flea market where he found the most wonderful item: an old pull down school world map which now graces his apartment.

Afterwards we hopped the train for Jackson Heights and spent a good portion of the day in Little India where I shopped, and shopped, and shopped...and just when I thought I could shop no more...we ate at an Indian buffet.

Here is our waiter. His name is Som, and he is way cuter then this photo shows. He was quite amazed at the loot (bollywood DVDS/cds) that I had purchased. I may have flirted with Som a bit, I am not sure. I do know that I wanted to  take him home with me...but since home at that time was Rodzinski's apartment...well, you have to be courteous when you are a guest.

In this shot you can see some of the stores in which I shopped at Little India.

Bombay Bazar is where I bought my two Kurtas from a very cute Sari clad salesgirl. The store was having a special, 30 % off. I couldn't resist.

On the street level, to the right you will see the stores Bollywood Music and Punjab Music. Both stores took a lot of my cash money.

LOL, DR MBarnum!  Those girls look right out of my high school yearbook.  Actually, I had something more like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada in mind.  Maybe more curly.

Just checking in from D.C.  Back from Witches of Eastwick, which had a slightly long first act but the second act went like gangbusters.  Take 15 minutes off this show and I'd bet they've got a smash hit.

I didn't get a chance to say hello to Ms. Skinner or Ms. Noll on behalf of BK (or to Jackie Piro on behalf of Skip) because we ended up being in a rush to get Milla to the train station back in D.C. and she made the earlier train with barely ten minutes to spare.

Julie and I will see Dead Man's Cell Phone tonight, and possibly get a late dinner.  Then possibly Shear Madness at Kennedy Center or the naked Macbeth at the Shakespeare theatre tomorrow.  Then home tomorrow night.

Does anyone know if the Spy Museum is interesting?  (It's right near our hotel, and that's intersting in itself, but is it worth \seeing?)

I just got caught up on today's posts.  I have to say, there was a lot of besmirching going on earlier..... oh yes, besmirching!  :)

I merely agree to provide protection for dear DR Jose while he has his "sidewalk picture" taken, and I'm accused of all manner of lechery.  Well, I never!!.......OK, almost never......  I was merely shielding dear Jose from unseemly gazes and keeping strong winds from blowing his back.

And as for my pic in front of the Paramount building, my shirt did have pink in the pattern but it was pretty subtle and hard to see.  You can ask Jose or Jason -- I had run out of all of my other pink shirts by that last morning.

Back from a really excellent work session - lots of little interesting changes, some dialogue replacement, and one major thing in act two - nothing in the scene changes, except the location and that brilliant brainstorm will inform EVERYTHING about the scene and musical number that's within it.  Our most exciting change today.  We clarified things, strengthened the very end of the final scene (before the finale) and all these changes will work.  David will do the first pass and I'll smooth and rewrite as necessary.  I hope he'll just get to it tomorrow and the next day, as I'll want to send out the new version only by end of next week.

Jaleo's kitchen is open late.

As for the Spy Museum - I love it!  It's a great place, and very well set up.  You can either just walk through it nice and quick, taking in the highlights, but you can also take your time (if you have the time) and read all the various bits of info.  And some of the actual spy items they have in there are pretty cool - and sometimes a bit frightening and unsettling.  -Especially that clock that was given to some U.S. official by school children, but turned out to be a surveillance device with no discernible power source.  And because they charge admission, and have timed passes, it's never really that crowded. *And the Spy Museum Cafe ain't bad either.  -However, I also really like Zola next door.

Oh..... and from earlier in the day:  2 of the least satisfying desserts to waste the effort (and calories) on..... baked Alaska and Floating Island.

Just give me my table at The Little Pie Company, with a Levain chaser !

Baked Alaskas can be quite good, if they're constructed with quality ingredients - especially the ice cream.  The trick is make sure the ice cream has sat out of the freezer just long enough so that it's no longer like a "rock".  This way when you spoon through the meringue, you don't have to dig when you hit the ice cream and cake.  However, it really is more of a "decoration" than a dessert, however, it can still be a delicious dessert.

As for Floating Islands...  Well, I've had good ones and not so good ones, but I think I'd rather have a cold fruit soup with some meringue cookies on the side - which I have had as a dessert - a sort of deconstructed Floating Island.

OH!!

So, as DR Jason and I are walking to dinner - our shows happen to get out at the same time, so... - I stared hearing some people yelling, "Jose! Jose! Jose!"  It turned out to be my friends, Tim and John, from Richmond.  It turns out they just decided to come up for the weekend - they usually come up for Broadway Bares, but since they had concerts down in Richmond that weekend, they weren't able to come up then.  They're seeing Curtains tonight, and then heading back tomorrow afternoon.  Hopefully, we'll be able to meet for brunch before they head back to Virginia (and my matinee).

And as I was checking the callboard at the theatre, I happened to notice a flyer for the upcoming production of Gypsy at City Center.  Upon closer inspection, I noticed it was a special flyer for the "Broadway Community" that was offering greatly discounted tickets for some of the previews next week.  So, after dinner, we walked up to the City Center box office, and picked up two very good seats for next Wednesday's matinee.  -And both tickets were less than the price of one single ticket!  -So, if any DR in or near the NYC area would like to see Gypsy next Monday night or next Wednesday afternoon, just PM me for the code.  -Which can also just be mentioned at the box office - no printout needed.

I took a nap and finished last nights movie. Now it is time to eat some dinner and watch my second Bollywood movie...this one is a war movie from 2003 titled BORDER HINDUSTAN KA.

For a war movie, it has some great musical numbers.

I mean, I don't think it's a show that will ever work.

I would just like to see a production of the show that uses the original book and music, warts and all.  I've seen about three or four big/professional productions of Merrily, and then one I liked the most was the one that didn't stray too far from the original.

However, the version that was presented at the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration was pretty good.  -And Raul Esparza's rendition of "Frankling Shepard, Inc." was amazing!

I have no photos as exciting and as glamorous as Barnum and the HHWs.  I hope Mike got the Badge Number of those two officers.

Here I am in Vegas.  Looking at this photo, maybe I shoud tell everyone that I ran into Stockard Channing.

Hmm... Is that supposed to be Elizabeth Taylor?  Or is it Stockard Channing?

DR Matthew - I meant to ask you this yesterday...  How are those 16th-notes in "The Transformation" coming along?  ;)

When I played the tour, it was a true endurance test keeping that pattern running in time.  And since the string patch didn't "speak" as well as (I thought) it should have, I had to depend on my fingers more than my ears.

What is that pie-like thing on the far right? A pie with a huge amount of meringue on the top? Yummy.

Yes, that is the Brooklyn Diner's Lemon Meringue Pie.  Which happens to be one of the two desserts we - we being DR MusicGuy, Jason and myself - did not try last week.  The other one being their Chocolate Blackout Cake.  -However, I also noticed some pretty decadent looking Chocolate-Chip Cookies and Rugelach on the counter.

-Wow! Was that just last week?!?!?

LOL, DR MBarnum!  Those girls look right out of my high school yearbook.  Actually, I had something more like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada in mind.  Maybe more curly.

While walking through the Virgin Megastore this afternoon, I noticed they had just placed a bunch of the Sony Masterworks/Broadway releases on their $8.00(!) Sale.  So... I had enough time before PRADA began so I watched another MURDER SHE WROTE episode. This one had Gene Barry as a millionaire author who brings Jessica to his island to help him discover which person in his family was trying to kill him. This was definitely not one of the high water marks of Season 6 and an easily spotted murderer. Keir Dullea was another guest star in the episode.

I then put in the final MURDER SHE WROTE of the evening, sad to say another Jessica-less episode, this time focusing on Barry Newman as a police detective who's made to teach a criminology class at a local college, and the murder he investigated with his class of two students. Gerald O'Laughlin was another guest star in the episode.

Old Lady to Policeman:  The people next door are swimming nude in their pool and it offends me when I look out my window.

Policeman: (looking out window)  I don't see anything.

Old Lady to Policeman:  Well stand up on this box and use these binoculars and you sure will!

I am amazed at EDISAURUS' stamina! She works double shifts, then goes home to paint the house!

Oh no....I wouldn't do a double and then paint! We actually have hired a painter...big move for us because it's hard to find someone who will do the job as well as you'd do it yourself. The guy rushed through the first day, trying to impress us with how much he could get done. Now that he understands that we are willing to pay for him to take the time to do it right, it's much better. Still not as good as if we'd done it ourselves, but at least with Carlos' help, we might move in in my lifetime.

Also, having someone there working makes us work harder to keep ahead of him, so we're all getting a lot done!

Have you seen this production?  I saw the one 20 years ago and the Vixter has been campaigning to see this one...

I actually haven't seen it yet.  However, I'm planning on going in two weeks or so when Drew Sarich takes over the role of Valjean.  -He was Armand in Lestat.  Additionally, my friend, Megan McGinnis, was just promoted to Eponine, and her boyfriend is now a part of the ensemble.

I need to see LES MIZ, too. 1) I love Lea Salonga and 2) my friend, Jeremy, just went into the ensemble, and 3) the original Christmas Eve, Ann Harada, is playing Mme. Thenardier, so I feel like I should go send some Avenue Q juju her way...

I am sorry I will miss Drew Sarich, we liked him as Armand.  Vix also wanted me to tell you that she is

Re:  Song of Norway.  I still remember the NY Times ads for the roadshow, proclaiming it was selling more tickets than any film since Sound of Music.   I made my parents take me to the Seattle showing, which I want to say was at the Paramount, but I could be mistaken.  I have the souvenir program and soundtrack, too!  It's never been released on DVD, has it?  I think I *would* get it--loved the photography.

It seems to only be available on PAL DVD.

I don't think we were offered souvenier programs. But I did get to see it on one of the last big screens in Atlanta. (Torn down now, of course...)

I remember being amazed when Harry Secombe belted out "At Christmastime". I only knew his from The Goon Show---didn't realize he had such a lovely voice!

Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me upon meeting DR Singdaw (alias Naomi), which is a shame as he was not only very tall and handsome, much more so then even his avatar would suggest, but one heck of a neat guy!

I always had hte sneaking suspicion that Sing was taller than his avatar.

You would probably have to pay more to get her sari half-off.

The bookends worked well when I first saw a production and the cast did not wear those silly named T-shirts!

The original production's sets and costumes were simply the ugliest things I've ever seen on a stage.  :(

Yep! the pics in the Cd booket were Ughhhh.  I saw the show by a very good local non professional group here. (At the Univeristy of Melbourne).
The show was done in the "round" (actually in the square).  I found it very moving indeed.
