Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like Sugar Frosted Flakes, and now it is time for you to post until the Sugar Frosted Cows come home.  Sugar Frosted Cows - quick, a new cereal is born from Post.

Good morning, all!  I too noticed a new member Fifi LePew signed on last night, but I don't recall seeing any posts. Perhaps it's the director of the Warlow MAN OF LA MANCHA production our DR Tomovoz is so fond of?

Three things today: Toyland, the main post office to ship Charlotte's copy of Harry Potter to her in Maine, and the laundry.

Last night I watched the penultimate disc of UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS, Season 4, and the World War episodes are quite moving.  And what a wonderful ensemble cast!  I'm not sure I'd want to purchase the entire series but I have considered it.

I got a cute phone call this morning from my niece (well actually from my sis asking if i got her harry potter book).  Apparently they went on the boat ride at Niagara Falls.

But all i heard was, "auntie, boat!" (and then a few other words i could not make out).

DR JRAND  wrote last night re: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE:

RESULTS SPOILERS

Quote
DR JENNIFER....all I know is he brought me the phone results on Thursday morning and they did not tally with the results we saw on air.

I think there is a"go to hell" disclaimer in the credits that says the votes can be manipulated or skewed in various ways.

This seems odd to me for many reasons.

1.why would they let somebody who works on the website know the results.

2. but more importantly wouldn't the judges have been happier if the B3 were who you said (lacey/kam, danny/anya, pasha/sara).

I think that is who you said. Because then kameron and sara could have gone home and nobody would have cared.

As it is the fans are really irate about anya leaving.

I actually forgot that her and pasha have trained together for 9 years. I bet they would have been awesome to see dance together (sort of like benji and heidi).

Good morning!

I have been up since 7 a.m. Due to the cool morning temperatures, I decided it would be a good morning to clean the gutters off the front and left side of my house, so that's how I spent the first 45 minutes of my morning.

Glad to have that behind me.

For those who watch CRIMINAL MINDS, i just read in my local paper today that it looks like Mandy Patinkin won't be returning to the show in the Fall.

I'm not sure if this is 100% confirmed (although it sounded pretty firm).

They wouldn't say exactly what the deal was. At first they tried to imply it might have been he was holding out for more money. But then it made it seem like there was some type of creative difference.

Came in and read the newspaper, and I'm still enjoying the cool air with the windows open and the attic fan pulling it all through the house.

Of course, Sunday is chore day with laundry and bathroom cleaning to come. There is always something to do around the house in terms of maintenance.

According to all the articles I read when this story broke last week, it had nothing to do with money. And Shemar Moore stated at the CBS conference last week that Mandy's been unhappy and had good and bad days for both seasons the show has run. I believe they're actually relieved to see him go. Geena Davis is being sought to replace him.

Frankly, after he ditched the show CHICAGO HOPE after the first year (and won an Emmy for his work), I'm surprised ANY network would take a chance on his unpredictability again.

Today there will be more MOONLIGHTING, an episode of BURN NOTICE, and probably THE ILLUSIONIST.

Tonight, there is a new episode of ENTOURAGE for me to either watch or record depending on what else I'm watching at the time.

When I saw that MISS POTTER DVD several weeks ago, I noted the look of the feature and how different those same scenes looked in the "making of" featurette on the disc. There everything looks beautiful and right with the photography. In the actual feature presentation, it's disappointing looking.

I did enjoy the film more than bk, however.

I might watch the show if Geena Davis is in it rather than that man.

I watched one episode to see if it interested me. I usually like crime procedurals, but CRIMINAL MINDS just didn't hook me. (Neither does NCIS, another very popular CBS series that I just couldn't get into.)

I do like Thomas Gibson who's also on CRIMINAL MINDS, but I wouldn't watch the show just for him.

Had a great brunch with good friends yesterday.

Last night's show was The Mystery Of Irma Vep.  The two actors were great.  The costume changes were fast and furious, as they need to be, and the small theater (Urban Stages) allowed for a very intimate feel and to see all the facial expressions close up.  I'd be fascinated to know what the backstage area looks like.  I just envision several dressing assistants ripping one costume off and throwing another one on, with cloths and props strewn all over the place.  It no doubt requires tremendous coordination to pull the whole thing off.  Last night was the final performance of the extended run, and they said they were in the process of trying to put together a transfer to Off Broadway, which would start in about two months.

I had toyed with the idea of going to see yesterday's performance of Bloody Lies at MITF, but after DR elmore's report, I'm glad I decided to skip it.

But tonight - the Metropolitan Room to see the always fabulous and greatly talented Lennie Watts perform his new cabaret act - all Barry Manilow songs.  I'm sure it will be terrific - Lennie's a great singer.

DR JRand - As for today's "final" performance... What DR singdaw said.

And, apparently, when the new-ish cast comes in on Tuesday, some of the old merchandise will be "retired".  Which seems a little strange to me since the old merchandise was just the show logo/lettering, and the new merchandise has a picture of the "old" cast on it.  ???  Maybe DR Jason can shed some light on this. Or not.

OH!

In the current issue of New York Magazine, there's an article about seven "hotel rooms under $200", and they are:

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson - 2 Exchange Pl.., Jersey City - 201-469-1234 - Yes, it's in Jersey, but it's just "a one-stop, four-minute PATH ride or short Water Taxi from Lower Manhattan".

Best Western Seaport Inn - 33 Peck Slip, nr. Front Street - 212-766-6600

Courtyard by Marriott Times Square South - 114 W. 40th St., nr. Sixth Ave. - 212-391-0088

On the Ave - 2178 Broadway, at 77th St. - 212-362-1100

Hampton Inn Time Square North - 851 Eighth Ave., at 51st St. - 212-581-4100

Hotel 17 - 225 E. 17th St., nr. Third Ave. - 212-475-2845

The Pod Hotel - E. 51st St., nr. Second Ave. - 212-355-0300

Of course, the rooms at these places are under $200 now, and they do mention that the rates are most likely higher during the fall and spring high seasons.  And although the direct numbers are listed, booking through the internet may result in a better rate.  -However, from my personal experience, I've found booking directly with the hotel can result in a lower rate, especially when it comes to their discounted rates for business travelers, union members, AARP members, etc.  A lot of those discount codes just don't come up automatically on the online reservation systems.  *And I know when I've stayed at the Edison, the reservation clerk would always ask me, "So, what business are you with?" so that I would get the lower business rate.

OH!  And here's a link to the article - with commentary and pictures - on the magazine's website.

Hmm... It's a gorgeous day here today in NYC... And even though tomorrow is supposed to be a little rainy, it's only supposed to be in the upper 60's.  And even the rest of the week is forecasted for the lower 80s.  My kind of summer!  :)

In any case... I may just head out in a bit and look at all the people in Central Park reading the latest Harry Potter book.

Sounds like a really nice weather week for Manhattan.  By the way, isn't it a law that to read Harry potter in the park, you are required to take off your T-shirt and only wear cutoff Levi jeans?  At least for the guys?.....

Well, that's only "highly suggested" when you're sitting on the Great Lawn or the Sheep Meadow.  However, when you choose to sit on the few benches around the Reservoir, or any of the rock formations around the Park, that rule is mandatory and strictly enforced.

I'm also going to see how much a new little deep freeze would cost me.  The one I have is probably 20 years old, at least. It's sounding terrible like it's gonna blow up or something. That's why I unplugged, threw out the stuff that had been in there forever and am roasting the turkey today.  Yikes, so much to do...why am I still typing?

I must confess that despite the best of intentions, I never got further yesterday than THINKING about de-cluttering.  Maybe today's activities should include writing 100 times, I must turn thoughts to actions.  I must turn thoughts to actions.  (Two down, 98 more to go,)

Do not underestimate the THINKING part! One technique I use is to break a project down into managable mini-projects, then decide which of these I want to tackle first, and visualize it getting done. I do this the day before or the night before. Nothing worse than putting some time aside, then saying, "Where the HELL do I start?" No. That does NOT help. Many of my projects are large and daunting. ANY large project is really just a series of smaller projects, some done concurrently, some not. So you have to break it down, anyway. When I was doing large software projects I'd find that many of the junior staffers--even the brightest of them--had trouble with large projects. I'd have to help them see it as a series of smaller projects, something doable. I find the same thing with renovation projects--many people are just overwhelmed.

One of the problems with decluttering or culling is that you have to do a lot of work without actually seeing any progress. Last week Marvelous Matt moved a bookcase from the second floor up to the third floor (my office) for me. I had to move all the books from another second floor bookcase up to the "new" bookcase in my office (yes, folks, I have LOTS of books). That's done now, the "new" bookcase is compleeetely full, but organized, and I know where things are. Finally! A mini-project where I can SEE the difference!

I have lots of these mini-projects left. Ugh! But little by little I'm getting there.

Oops. I guess I chased everyone away. Maybe they were inspired to declutter--or do something else to AVOID the decluttering. Or they're just bloody sick of hearing about it. I'm bloody sick of it myself.

Theater is my true love - what I really like to do.  I'm very lucky to live in Manhattan and to be able to go so often.  I also have a lot of friends who are theater people, too, so it's like our own little community - people to see shows with, to exchange our own informal reviews with, to hear the latest rumors and gossip, etc.    And my favorite theater time of year is coming up - NYMF.  I've seen almost all of the NYMF shows in the festival's first three years, and it just gets better and better each year.

DH and I went to a party last night givem by one of my clients, a young producer at TNT. (We're working on some of the SAVING GRACE stuff together.) Because they don't have a huge income (his wife working in theatre)  they are really into games---board games, acting out games and stuff like playstation.

I had never tried playstation stuff...I always though it was just games where you try to kill each other, but they had one set up in one room that was a karaoke game. You would design your character and choose your performance venue, and then sing along with the track. You would be judged on how closely you matched the pitch, and if you did well, it generated response from the audience. If you completed your song and did well, you ended up with a gold or platinum record. If you scored enouhg points, you ended up with a new outfit for future performaces. You could choose duets, some of which were in harmony, and there were varying degrees of difficulty in the choice of songs and the level at which you were judged. And the whole time, your charachter is dancing to the music.

Little arrows would tell you if you were off-pitch and needed to go sharp or flat.

DH was in aother room, playing something called "Guitar Hero" or something like that. You held a plastic guitar with 6 colors keys and watched a vdieo screen where the notes zoomed towards you, like on a fretboard, and you had to match your finger action to the  illuminated dots on the fret board. There were a lot of other nuances to it, like points at which you could "rock out" and hit notes while using a whammy bar or raising the nexk of the guitar for extra points. It's kind of hard to describe, but he really had fun playing it! (Kind of like Dance Dance Revolution but with a guitar.)

I said "What'll they think of next? A whole band playing? Or doing the karaoke AND playing guitar?" Apparently, both scenarios are in the works!

One of the things that made us both feel old was that we barely knew even half the songs offered...

I began my viewing this afternoon with another MOONLIGHTING episode. It happened to be the Christmas episode with Ms. Depisto finding a baby in her apartment and not wanting to part with it for the holidays. Sweet story that got a bit silly near the end but otherwise nice. At the end, they broke the fourth wall and showed the entire cast and crew singing "The First Noel."

Next, I watched an episode of BURN NOTICE. I believe this was the second one aired, a story of a elderly woman who was scammed out of her life savings.

I did enjoy the show very much, light-hearted caper show in many ways and with wonderful laconic narration by the leading man. Also nice to see Sharon Gless on TV again after QUEER AS FOLK.

Thanks for the recommendation, DR Elmore! I have the DVR set to pick up last week's episode when it's shown again tomorrow night.

Next, I watched another MOONLIGHTING episode, this one with a man asking Maddie and David to find him a bride. After 20 years of searching and having no luck, he left it in their hands. Since they basically disagree about everything, they each went different ways and chose a candidate for him. Of course, the story had a neat twist that I liked, but again the episode degenerated into absurdity with a chase in hospital corridors by two people in wheelchairs and no security doing anything. Lazy writing.

Showtime-HD was showing CAPOTE this afternoon, so I ended my viewing by watching about 45 minutes of the film in HD. It did make it sharper than the DVD, of course, but since it was filmed a little soft and drained of color, the HD didn't add much to the experience.

Saving some pennies up so I can get Moonlighting...

Creepy story Edi...

In the mission to de-clutter teh computer desk

2 jump drives found, two still missing... and  one is on a lanyard [looking for a long blue cord]. I seem to acquire them... One I bought, one I got as a gift and two I inherited from lost and found at the library... ONe semester we had 15 lost jumpdrives and of those 15, there were six that were not claimed. The head of circ cleaned them off and gave me two and another co-worker two.

What's this.... I spy a piece of blue sticking out from a pile of papers I was sorting...

::reaches over.... and pulls:::

I just found the blue lanyard.

Down to one...  Sorting my genealogy research and going through and throwing away some duplicate information and shredding some other stuff.

How do they work assignments at DVDTalk, DR JMK? Do you bid for certain movies? Do you get assigned certain studio product? Is it first come, first serve? Are you in a rotation and get assigned whatever comes next?

Edi:  the site is:

http://www.DVDTalk.com

It's an astoundingly complete database of film, videogame, etc.  So far in my casual perusals I've found the reviews to be head and shoulders above most internet sites.  I only have one review up so far, a quickie I pounded out whilst waiting for my official first batch of reviews:  Land of the Pharoahs at

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=29271&___rd=1

I can also set up IVs with varied and sundried people and publish those.

Matt, the assignment process is two-fold--they have a database of "currently available" titles that you can choose from, which is what I did for my first go-round.  Then they have a wish list of future releases, which are assigned by staff on a weighted system of seniority, your particular field(s) of expertise, and whether you stipulated any future release as a "favorite" (one that you really, really want to review).  Needless to say, I'm at the bottom of the seniority totem pole, so I can't guarantee I'll be reviewing any blockbuster titles for the present.  The one I'm looking forward to for next week is the new release of kinescopes of the Karloff "Suspense" series.  I'll also be reviewing a Da Vinci Code documentary (I think I may have actually already seen it, but I can't tell from the product info I was given) and a concert DVD of The Chieftains.

And BTW, though it's not his official birthday (that's next week on July 27, appropriately celebrated nationally by the release of The Simpsons Movie), today is Gabe's 11th birthday party!!

And speaking of "The Simpsons Movie"... The 7-11 in Times Square has been transformed into a Kwik E Mart!  The outside signage has changed, and even a bunch of the display stuff inside.  There are even larger-than-life figures in the freezer case!  And, of course, they are featuring those giant pink-frosted donuts.  And I even like some of the "sale" signs:  Buy 3 for the Price of 3!  ;)  The place has become a tourist destination - lots of camera snapping going on.  -And, as "luck" would have it, there's a Burger King next door which happens to be featuring 16(!) different toys in their new Simpsons meal boxes.

So, has anyone spied any other Kwik E Marts in their neighborhood?

No Quik E Marts, Jose, but at two different theaters we've been to lately (different chains, even--one a Regal, the other a Cinemark), the big displays of the Simpsons sitting on the couch (I'll assume you've seen those--they're huge, 3D plaster-or-something-like-it displays of the whole family) were both missing Homer's right arm!!  Someone is stealing Homer's right arm (the name of my next musical).

I noticed this, too.  I passed by the other day and saw the signage change to Kwik E Mart and noticed that people were taking pictures of it.

What am I missing?  Is there some special thing about Kwik E Mart that would cause lots of people to want to take a photo of it?  I'm so out of the loop on Kwik E Marts.  ???    For a moment, I wondered if I, too, needed a photo of the Kwik E Mart, but then remembered that it would just add to the clutter.   ;D

I didn't cough once while reading onstage.

There is a second round tomorrow night, and then we will know.  I will not be able to attend that round because we are rehearsing ACT ONE of The Fantasticks.

Thanks to DR SINGDAW and DR JOSE for clearing up the Final Performance phrase....as soon as I read DR SINGDAW's post, I remembered.

And of course DR JOSE.....retired A Chorus Line merchandise at bargain prices will be appreciated....except for yoga pants.

DR MATTH - one place where you can practice your movie reviewing skills is at www.epinions.com

It's great, you get a few cents every time someone reads your reviews, but it's a great place to build up a library of reviews that you can link to, or copy and paste to other sites....and you can write about any movie (or anything else).

Here's one of mine....for example!!!

With Scarlet Street in limbo, it's the only regular outlet I have for publishing reviews.

Software glitch/internet solution punchline of the week:  OK, so both of us with Vista ( ;D) have been experiencing this weird Error 46 problem when we try to initialize QuickTime, which you need to do to run iTunes, or watch some video embedded on web pages, etc.   I have spent weeks looking for solutions, and manually doing stuff I normally don't like to do, like editing registry keys, etc.  So's, anyhoo, finally found a site today that posted a solution (a little program you had to download and run in Command Prompt), which worked!  Hallelujah.  So I posted a thank you to the guy's comment board.

The punchline?  I used two dashes (--) halfway through my comment, and he must have some weird HTML coding on his site, because everything after the dashes runs

I ate here: Beard Papa Sweets Caffe - A Royal Milk Tea Cream Puff.  YUM!

It's sort of hard to describe what exactly Royal Milk Tea tastes like, but, basically Royal Milk Tea is made by steeping tea leaves in milk (instead of water).  And I have to say, that the RMT variety is one of my favorites at Beard Papa.  The other one being their Earl Grey one.

The West Village was my family's little "hideaway", Jose.  In fact the whole block of W. 11th between 5th and 6th was owned by my Uncles for decades.  They're renovating one of the last buildings he owned right now if you walk down the street (my sis was just there and sent me pictures--I'm not psychic).  If you ever listen to the commentary on The Producers (the original one), you'll hear Mel Brooks talk about Dustin Hoffman throwing pebbles at the window of Mel's flat on W. 11th when Dustin got cast for The Graduate (he was originally cast in The Producers, believe it or don't).  It's that building he's talking about.

I was hoping that the high-end hot dog cart was out today, but they weren't.  Oh, well.  I did walk by the Magnolia Bakery, and it doesn't seem like their recent closing by the Health Department has affected their business at all.  There was quite a line around the corner.

I most likely walked by that building today.  A few months ago, the New York Times did a block-by-block "analysis" of W. 11th - points of interest, architecture, restaurants, etc.  What a neat street.  -And, of course, having to explain that W. 11th doesn't really run from West-to-East, but rather from West-to-Southeast is always "fun" to explain to out-of-towners.  -Of course, then there's W. 4th Street too.

Once I made way around back to Waverly Place, I ate here: Taim.  I discovered this place last year when I was doing Dear Edwina at Rattlestick, which is in residence right next door.  Wonderful falafel as always.  And I found out that I could actually just order the side order of the "falafel sampler" by itself: six balls of falafel, two of each variety.  And all for just $3.50.  Very good.  I was tempted to get a batch of their incredible french fries with saffron aioli, but I decided to leave room for other foodstuffs.

Then I walked back around to 6th Avenue and Bleecker.  I happened to pass the IFC, and noticed that they are showing the new Patrice LeConte film, "Le Meilleur Ami" ("My Best Friend").  The always wonderful Daniel Auteuil is the star.  I made note of the show times, and I think I'm going to try to catch it sometime this week.  -They're also showing the new documentary, "Summer Camp".  That looks good too.

Then I ended walking back up Bleecker to Cones for some gelato.  Today's personal selection: Corn (yes, Corn) and Mocha Chocolate Chip.  I've always liked their Corn gelato - apparently, it's the most popular flavor in South America ??? - and I wasn't sure the Mocha Chocolate Chip would be a complementary pairing, but it actually worked rather well.

Then I walked back down Bleecker towards SoHo.  And once I reached Broadway, I decided to check out the newish Uniqlo flagship store.  I had been seeing the ads for Uniqlo all over the place, but I had no real idea what the store was all about until I came across a catalog the other day.  It's basic clothes at basic prices.  Basically.  It's a Japanese chain, and the SoHo store is three levels of mainly all-cotton clothing.  I'd say it's like upscale Gap, but made with better quality materials, and not so fad-ish.  I'll definitely be making a return trip for some purchasing.

*They have a current promotion where various artists designed graphic tees for the store.  And most of them just cost $15.  -Which is quite the bargain since most graphic tees are running anywhere from $40-200(!!).  There's a line of "ECM" t-shirts which have the graphics from ECM's record and CD art.  Very cool.

Hmmm...there's a DVD coming out on August 21st (80th anniversary of the execution) that you might be interested in reviewing?

By the time I had stepped into the Uniqlo store, they were only open for about ten more minutes, but that was enough time for a quick browse.  Then I headed back up Broadway to 14th Street and Union Square.

I decided to give a new Thai sandwich place a try: Thai Me Up.  Now, I've heard of Vietnamese sandwiches before, banh mi, but I keep seeing Thai sandwich places popping up here and there.  So, I decided to give it a try.  It's basically the same as banh mi but a bit more substantial.  I ordered a Chicken one with their White Ginger sauce.  It was basically stir-fried chicken and vegetables on a baguette, with a spicy sauce - that turned out to be not that spicy.  It was a good sandwich - and actually quite healthy, but I found myself wishing for a good ole hamburger and french fries while I was eating it.  -And I almost dumped the sandwich a few bites in and headed over to Blue 9 Burger around the corner, but since I'm not one to waste food...

So, instead, I headed over to Max Brenner, and selected a few chocolates from their case for dessert: Dark Chocolate with Wild Flower Honey, Milk Chocolate with Toasted Coconut, Dark Chocolate with Spices, and Dark Chocolate with Black Pepper and Cornflakes(!).  All very good.

Tonight, I decided to crack open the SUPERMAN serial box (no pun intended on today's talk about cereals). I started playing the episodes from the second serial - ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN.

They're incredibly primitive compared to the TV series (which is primitive compared to the movies), but I like the low budget and crummy acting. The first episode introduced the idea of coins which can help people become invisible. They used this idea on one episode of the TV series many years later.

And since I was down at Union Square, I stopped into Trader Joe's to pick up some groceries for the week.  The store was crowded as usual, but not crazy-crowded (as usual).  I was actually in and out there in about ten minutes.

And once I got on the subway back at Union Square, I guesss the "gods of the IRT" were smiling on me, since I made it all the way back uptown (from 14th to 145th) in just 18 minutes!  -And that included transferring to the D Train at 34th Street!

TOnight I watched the movie THE ILLUSIONIST. Having already seen THE PRESTIGE, the big surprise in the film was no surprise at all, but it was still a very enjoyable movie and a lot less mean-spirited than THE PRESTIGE. I think I like THE PRESTIGE a little more, just for its ambitiousness, but they're both well made and beautifully acted movies.

How's that for a throwdown! -Or was it a smackdown?

In any case, I don't think Liza Minelli could really generate enough posts for a proper throwdown/smackdown.  Now, maybe if the subject was her mother, Judy Garland, well, that's someone who's a bit more post-worthy, imho.  ;)

*Of course, if you really want to generate some posts, there's always "food" to get things going.  Or "The Music Man".  :)

Liza was simply the conduit (so to speak)--the tunnel can lead anywhere, my good man, and with Liza it could certainly lead to Judy and food.  And I'm sure there's some intimate connection to Music Man which could be found with a little digging.  :)

What a loverly day here in the Bluegrass State. After visiting with friends at church this morning, we had my dad's side of the family over for leftovers and swimming. I had a great time getting to know my two two-year old second cousins (Jenna and Lindsay) and seeing my aunt and uncle and cousins (first cousins) again. And the weather was BRILLIANT. After swimming, we went to visit my grandparents for a few minutes before returning to the house for dinner. My dad has to fly out tomorrow morning for a business trip, so he needed to be home to pack and get some rest.

Tomorrow, we will be taking the girls to the Zoo, which should be an adventure, after which we will visit Chik-Fil-A (save the best for last, right?) and then back home for more swimming. I think my mom wants to take me out for dinner tomorrow night at some fancy restaurant she knows, and then I'm off to the airport on Tuesday morning.

Where did the time go???

Oh... There was actually a method to my madness today.  Today was sort of a "farewell to carbs".  I've been sort of reckless over the past couple of weeks, months in regards to my diet, and I really just need to get back on track again.  I'm also trying to regain some control over some other aspects of my life, and I've been prepping a sort of Total Body/Life Makeover the past couple of weeks.  And tomorrow is Day One.  Day One of ???.

Life is good right now.  But it could be better.  And I could be better.  So, I have a couple of "Will Do" lists for each day, rather than "To Do" list.  There's nothing Major I need to deal with (well, maybe...), but there's just a lots of minor things that I've been letting slide for too long.  And, yes, DECLUTTERING is the biggie for me.  -And finally getting rid of my car last week was the perfect way to get the ball rolling (again).  It was just holding me back, literally and figuratively.  So... Time to begin.

-And thus concludes my very self-indulgent post.  ;)

As for "The Next Food Network Star"....  I lost interest in it after the first two episodes.  Again.  I really just have to wonder what criteria the producers use to select the initial batch of contestants.  Yes, I can understand wanting to have a variety of personalities, backgrounds and specialties, but too many of them just seem a bit incompetent, in general, to be a true contestant, competitor, imho.  I know the contestants send in an audition video, but does anyone know if they also have to send in some of their own recipes?  -Who knows?  Maybe I'm expecting too much, and/or I want it to be a bit more like "Top Chef".

I also think it's sort of telling that the Food Network keeps adding new programs and hosts to their line-up... In better time slots than the winners of the Next Food Network Star.

We had a wonderful meal at a place called Bandera, which, I gather is a chain.  Boy, was the food good - a very small menu, but we had appetizers of corn bread (served like a pie and out of this world), mac and cheese (really yummilicious), queso dip (spicy, but excellent), and I had a very good chicken Caesar.

It was amusing, but today was the first day in eight months that Newport Beach not only had overcast skies but had drizzle.  Thankfully, it began and ended before the concert, which was outdoors.  Very big crowd, too.

Jose - Patrice Leconte, as you may remember, is my favorite director these days, so let me know how the film.  And speaking of Frenchies, where in tarnation has Francois been?

I do remember.  And I will let you know about the movie after I see it.  The premise is fun/intriguing: Daniel Auteuil's character must "produce" a best friend or he loses a bet with a colleague.

And if I made five hundred and ten posts right now, we would barely place in the top ten posting days.

I remember that story. That's cool, JMK!

If you can get me an advance copy, I'm sure I can review it--or if it's on Amazon, I can link it to my "wish list," though I can't guarantee I'll be the one who ends up with it.

Thanks! I sent your info on to Peter, who will in turn send it to First Run. I hope you get it---not that I'm assuming that you would give it a favorable review, but i know you would be fair.  I looked up their review of THE INTERNATIONALE and it wasn't particularly favorable. Not that I'm biased or anything, but out of all the films I've worked on, that is one of my particular favorites and it has almost always gotten great reviews.

It's on Amazon, so you can link it, too. There's only one review there and from someone who seemingly hadn't seen the film but was making his condescending comments based on the product description.

Is this song about a companion restaurant to the one the DR MBARNUM discovered in the Big Apple?
