Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both whipped and lashed, and now it is time for you to post until the whipped cows come home.

And the word of the day is: ATTICISM!

Has anyone noticed that I'm the only one in the jernt?

Will we never get to page two?

Good morning DR Ben.

Hello DR SunKing
-
***CONGRATULATIONS***
to DR JoseSPiano on his lofty new plateau! :)
-
Have a wonderful and safe Friday DRs. Back in a couple of hours.
-
Hello DR SunKing
I wish! :D
I avoid the sun, generally, as I instantly burn to a crisp red lobster.
I'm pigment-challenged.
-
DR Jose's piano stool has been raised. A new plateau so that he can reach the black notes.
-
I didn't plan it this way, but the way my schedule works out, I will be attending the closing night performances of The Brain, Such Good Friends, and Starfighter.

But what about his bar stool?

I'm back after breakfast. As I've mentioned, we will be on Long Island this weekend. Anthony is there now and I'll leave on the 3:55 train. Even though it's supposed to be rainy, sticky, humid and unpleasant twill be nice to be on the Isle of Long.
-
I'm listening to BBC Radio Devon right now and I have no plans for any listening today. I have a meeting at 9am then I must get back to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (no cereal samples were given to me, just a printout).
-
We may buy a new CD player for the living room this weekend. We saw a unit at Target (a Phillips model). It has a single CD player, a single cassette unit (remember tapes), good speakers and it has a USB port which accepts mp3 players meaning you can download music to an mp3 unit, plug it in and play it through the system. We don't have an mp3 player but I do have a flash drive and I'm putting some music on it so when we go to look at the unit I can plug it in and see if/how it works. Our current CD player is about 15 years old and on its last legs. It's one of those combo units with a radio, CD and double tape unit. The CD player doesn't always work and one of the tape units is wonky. Time to upgrade.

Good Morning Matthew. You're up early for a Californian!
-
Oh, my, we're so close to Page 2 my frenzy will take us there.
-
And here we are.
My work is done (for now).
-
Good Morning Matthew. You're up early for a Californian!
The dog woke up and decided to bark his head off at 3:00am (Pacific Time!) and when I got him back to bed, the DP was snoring up a storm and getting back to sleep was basically useless. So, I'm here (almost a SS reference)
-
Good morning, all! I have to go back to Toyland this morning: LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits with Mr Murray, a search for a packed-up vocal score, and then some final packing. I also have to post this last chart to David Byrne, who's copying the music for Mr Spirtas.
DR Jose, I am involved with nothing in this upcoming round of casting; whatever is happening in August is between BK and Michael Cassara.

It amused me no end when one election year the Republican National Convention used The Best of Times is Now as their theme song. It seemed the irony was lost on many. :)

Last night DR Jason posted the SWEENEY TODD movie poster:
His needs were few, his room was bare but damn--look at that view! Can you imagine how much a place like that would go today?
-
Thanks for posting the link DR SINGDAW....yes please read and vote for Amanda Mitchell. The competition is winding down, and thanks to all of you, she is still leading!!!
Vote.
-
DR ELMORE got his lease....DR MUSICGUY his new abode....DR JOSE his new plateau...
Yesterday was a gala day here at HHW...
And a gala day should be enough for anybody.
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/WandaDuck/Copyofsweeneylarge1.jpg)
It reminds me of Edward Scissorhands' attic. Coincidence?
Will Depp do his own singing?
-
Can you imagine how much a place like that would go today?
As some wag has pointed out at another posting site, that place doesn't exist, because you can't see the Tower from a window on Fleet Street!?!
Thanks to DR Jason for posting the link last night. And I assume you all noticed Lucy and Johanna in the portrait on the wall?
DR Edisaurus, so far as I know, Depp will do his singing on whatever is left of Sondheim's score.
-
It is very dark in THE FANTASTICKS land, I am sad to report. Last night while I was at THE SUNSHINE BOYS read thru and lecture, there was a mutiny of actors vs. director in which everyone got involved including the costumer, the pit, and the janitor, for all I know.
I do not know what will happen tonight. I do know that something must be done.....and the suggestion of the AD that I restage ALL of the musical numbers is NOT an option.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And since I'm up "early", I think I'm going to head down to Chelsea to get my haircut. -Especially before the humidity really kicks in later - it's already at 78% according to the man in my radio - and also before all the Chelsea boi finally wake up and get in line for their haircuts.
-
DR EDISAURUS....sorry I wasn't around yesterday to remind your DH that Margaret Whiting sang "I'll Plant My Own Tree" for Miss Susan Hayward in THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS....although because Whiting had an exclusive recording contract at Capital (I think), the song was sung on the soundtrack by Eileen Wilson who was also the singing voice for Barbara Bel Geddes in THE FIVE PENNIES, a movie I forgot to put on my list yesterday.

Someone took out an ad in the newspaper to suggest you take over the staging? Wow, that is a mutiny, alright!

You've never heard the song before until this morning!?!?!??!?!
Turn in your card AND your commemorative pair of Ruby Slippers NOW!
;D

DR JRand56, ***PEACEFUL, CALMING VIBES*** to you and your company.

And Congrats to DR Jose on turning 21. You are now legal.
-
Does anyone else remember the Haney School of Television Acting on Green Acres?
He had a tomato juice can on a crate for a camera and an orange juice can on a fishing pole for the boom microphone.
The two most important rules in television acting:
NEVER look into the tomato juice can.
ALWAYS say your lines into the orange juice can.
Now imagine Pat Buttram saying that - and Eva Gabor repeating it.
-
Turn in your card AND your commemorative pair of Ruby Slippers NOW!
But I get to keep the toaster oven, right?

DR JRand56, ***PEACEFUL, CALMING VIBES*** to you and your company.
Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
OMG.....You Can't Stop the Beat.....perfect.....I shall listen to it all day. ;D
-
But I get to keep the toaster oven, right?
Must be returned in its original box to point of origin. :D
-
However, it really is a catchy song. -However, I prefer the original version from the show. Well, actually, I prefer the mix of the OCR compared to the Soundtrack, in general. However, when it was being blasted through the speakers in the movie theatre, my toes certainly started tapping.
-
the suggestion of the AD that I restage ALL of the musical numbers is NOT an option.
But...
Why not?
;)
-
But I get to keep the toaster oven, right?
Well, honey, if you actually have a toaster oven, it seems that we have bigger fish to fry! <snap>
-
OK - Time for me to hop on the A Train (then the C Train)...
Laters...
-
DR Singdaw, you never saw HAIRSPRAY on B'way or heard the OCR?!?
I think, yes--you do have to turn in the toaster oven!
-
The world is falling apart. NOTHING is working. My life is over.
I think I will go shopping.
-
Shopping--it's good for what ails ya!
-
DR EDISAURUS....of course when you interview Miss Jo Stafford, you must also ask her about the inimitable Darlene Edwards, who is her close personal friend.
I think Ms Edwards' renditions of "The Carioca", "I'm Blase'", and "Midnight Choo Choo to Alabam" are nothing if not definitive.
Her husband Jonathan is of course the inventor of the piano technique known as "fractured fifths."
-
Shopping--it's good for what ails ya!
Ain't it the GD truth!!! :o

DR JRand56, thanks for the info on singing in Valley of the Dolls.
Well that's GENERAL knowledge for MOST of us in the fraternity....it was on the admission exam.... ;D
-
...hum hum hum my happiness,
'Cause I like the way I am...
Hum hum hum hum
Hum hum hum--
Darnnit, DR Singdaw--now you got that song going in my head and I'm going to have to listen to the soundtrack again! (Don't have the OCR handy at the mo'.)
I've mentioned that I like the soundtrack a lot. I think Nikki Blonsky ins wonderful as Tracy. I was pleasantly surprised how well Zac Efron sings Link. Queen Latifah seems like she can never do anything wrong.
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I do like how "Cooties" has been reworked into a Brittany Spears style. And I love the surprise in "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now".
Disappointed that 'Big Dollhouse" was dropped. Michelle Pfeiffer talk-sings her "Miss Baltimore Crabs" way too much (but the song arrangements are wonderful!) And what can be said about Travolta? Feh!, is what I say.
-
*in a small, quiet voice...*
No.
But I saw the original movie a long time ago. Do I get any redemption points for that?
Well, that will be for The Commission to decide.
-
*in a small, quiet voice...*
No.
But I saw the original movie a long time ago. Do I get any redemption points for that?
Oohhhhhhh dear StringBritch ..... We may have to kidnap you, and keep you isolated in a room with Garland records and B. Davis movies for about 2 weeks.....kind of "reverse de-programming." :o
And dear Jrand....... I absolutely loved the movie of Hairspray, although I agree with an earlier comment that I thought the 2 weakest castings were Travolta and Walken.
I did, however, miss 2 of my alltime favorite little "throwaway" lines from the original film.........the first from a teacher -- "Tracy Turnblad, you're just a hair hopper!!" And the second line, when Edna sees Tracy on TV the first time with her partial bleach job......."Oh my, Tracy Turnblad with a triple process!!"
-
Will we never get to page two?
A distinct possibility.
-
DR EDISAURUS....sorry I wasn't around yesterday to remind your DH that Margaret Whiting sang "I'll Plant My Own Tree" for Miss Susan Hayward in THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS....although because Whiting had an exclusive recording contract at Capital (I think), the song was sung on the soundtrack by Eileen Wilson who was also the singing voice for Barbara Bel Geddes in THE FIVE PENNIES, a movie I forgot to put on my list yesterday.
And I prefer Eileen's version of the song on the soundtrack album to Margaret's version in the film.

Good morning!
Steamy hot is the forecast for the next five days. Ugh! Those cool mornings seem like so long ago, and it was only earlier this week!
-
Oh my, the pages are moving fast this morning!
-
I've mentioned that I like the soundtrack a lot. I think Nikki Blonsky ins wonderful as Tracy. I was pleasantly surprised how well Zac Efron sings Link. Queen Latifah seems like she can never do anything wrong.
Dear DtM ..... I agree..... I think Nikki Blonsky was fabulous, and I was really worried that they would "stunt-cast" some current Hollywood or A.I. type of bimbo as Tracy.
Zac Efron was just fine as Link.... or as anything else.... or as my dinner companion... or.... (you take it from here Jose..... ::) )
And I don't know what it is, but just as in the play-musical, when "I Know Where I've Been" starts in, my water jets open up and I'm a mess until the end of the song. And I thought the combination of Queen L. and the fabulous "backup gospel choir" type of arranging was........
F A B U L O U S !!!
-
The world is falling apart. NOTHING is working. My life is over.
I think I will go shopping.

New episodes of MONK and PSYCH tonight.
The GHOST WHISPERER rerun is not one I've seen, so I hope I can fit it into a very crowded slate of things to be viewed today.
-
Another comment, on the soundtrack album for THE PIRATE almost every song is in stereo, so with this many stereo stems, I'm sorry they didn't just fashion a stereo surround track for the movie on DVD, and when mono had to take over, so be it.
There are lots of movies with a Dolby DIgital 5.1 soundtrack where the rear surround channels are virtually silent for the entire film.

DR EDISAURUS....of course when you interview Miss Jo Stafford, you must also ask her about the inimitable Darlene Edwards, who is her close personal friend.

My favorite is "Paris in the Spring"!

RE: last night's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE RESULTS
SPOILERS
*
*
*
I thought the B4 were fair. I think kameron has only been saved all these weeks because he was dancing with lacey. And i think dominic was quite weak on wed night. But i had a feeling he was still very popular. So i'm not surprised he was safe.
As for the girls, i have liked jaimie. Her hummingbird routine was one of my favorites this year. But i do agree with the judges that she has not really progressed. And it has been obvious the fans don't really like her.
I thought sara and lauren were the weakest. And i think lauren grates on a lot of people's nerves. So she will probably go next week.
I was so happy that danny was finally safe. I think a lot of it had to do with mia actually stating how incredible he is. I don't think people want to look stupid.

DVD: My Ibsen Collection came from Amazon yesterday. Started the weekend out with Little Eyolf with Diana Rigg, Anthony Hopkins, Charles Dance, and the late great Peggy Ashcroft. A brilliant play. What a modern writer Ibsen is!
CD: Ron Isley Sings Burt Bacharach. The Ibsen set also has about eight radio plays along with the video productions...so I'll be listening to The Pretenders with Paul Scofield sometime this weekend.

Good Afternoon!
Ah... Nothing like a freshly shorn head. :)
-
DR Dan (the Man) - On the soundtrack for "Hairspray", I'm trying to figure out if they just re-did the vocals for "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" over the OCR tracks. But I do like the various "surprises", and trying to figure out who-is-who.
-
CD: finally got around to the OCR of Curtains this morning. It's so nice to have a cast album that makes me LOL, repeatedly. Maybe not prime K&E, but even sub-prime K&E is better than most anything else out there these days.
DVD: starting my first batch of official reviews, so am making my way through the 4 DVD set of kinescopes of the early Karloff hosted series "Suspense." Video quality is amazingly good--much better than I thought it would be (but I'm used to kinescopes, so that may have something to do with it). Audio is less so.
And speaking of audio: MattH, I didn't get pops/cracks on my Pirate audio, I got what I think you're referring to as "flutter", especially apparent at the open of the film, but it recurs regularly. The interesting thing is, when they play the instrumental backings from the soundtrack during the featurette, it's not there. Really perplexing.
-
DR MusicGuy - Well... As I commented earlier, I think Zac Efron looks very plastic in the movie. The eyebrows are a bit too plucked, and his nose looks funny. And he's thinner than he was in "High School Musical" - and I didn't think that was possible. Of course, he doesn't take his shirt off in "Hairspray" like he did in "High School Musical", so... Could just be the wardrobe. He's still cute, but he just looks a little weird to me in "Hairspray".
However, it is nice to hear Zac's real voice since most of his vocals for "HSM" were dubbed by Drew Seeley - which is why "HCM - The Concert" sounded so "familiar" (Zac wasn't able to tour due to the filming of "Hairspray"). -And I'm amazed at how Disney and Mr. Efron handled the "scandal". However, Zac will be doing his own singing in "HSM2".
-
DR elmore - Will you be going to Musicals in Mufti this weekend? I'm thinking I may surprise Mr. Gandy.
-
The summer after I retired, my central A/C, my refrigerator, and my vacuum cleaner all stopped working within a two month period. And I thought, "I've got to live on a pension with stuff breaking?"
Not the best way to start retirement.
Oh, I DO sympathize! I've had weekends when for everything I fix, something else breaks.
-
My dear DR Matt H...
HOW did you keep up with all your CLEANING?
;)
LOL.

And if anyone happens to have some free-time today while at work - or home - the Weekend Arts in today's NY Times is chock-full with fun and informative articles.

OK - Time to wash some dishes.

I, too, am recently shorn.
Funny you mention Ibsen, I encountered an impossibly old Great Man of the Theatre yesterday and, after he left, was asked how old he is. "I'm not certain, but I have heard him refer to Ibsen as 'that petulant kid'."
I'm printing out the new draft of Such Good Friends, and, as you might have predicted, the final scene doesn't resemble any of the previous final scenes I may have mentioned here at HHW. I think it evolves so much because my director and I don't want the audience to get ahead of us for a moment. Like to think every one of the 104 pages contains something the audience didn't see coming. Song quantity is back down to 28. Few people believe me when I say that even with 28 songs, this show has an unusually high proportion of dialogue to sung material. Think Gypsy, not Joseph.
Which reminds me that my musical director is currently doing Joseph at the MUNY and what a stylistic change Such Good Friends is going to be! One of my young assistants has created a page for the show: http://myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical (http://myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical) so visit that and become a friend if thats the sort of thing you do. What amuses me is that the lyric you hear, the first half of Like Love, has been completely rewritten. The other tracks include a duet between the stars of Our Wedding www.WeddingMusical.com (http://www.WeddingMusical.com) and a trio which includes a young man who just got a rave in yesterdays Times for his Jojo in the scaled-down Seussical. And I know you all know about NYMFs page for the show, http://www.nymf.org/Show-74.html (http://www.nymf.org/Show-74.html) it evolves, too.
We had our first production meeting last night and it was a thrill to see the Dream Team assembled at the Polish Tea Room. Above, I was joking about going from Joseph to Such Good Friends; knowing that one of our designers is going from the Tony-winning Coast of Utopia to Such Good Friends is another thing indeed. Im knocked out by this.
And someone whos recorded some of my favorite Lost In Boston/Lost Musicals tracks for BK has joined our cast. Shes all grown-up now, but weve heard what dress size she wore when she was a little girl

DR Dan (the Man) - On the soundtrack for "Hairspray", I'm trying to figure out if they just re-did the vocals for "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" over the OCR tracks. But I do like the various "surprises", and trying to figure out who-is-who.
I just did a side-by-side listen to the two (I found a quick download of the OCR) and the tracks are definitely different. There are differences in the arrangements and separations plus the vocal backups and some instrumental riffing.
Of the three, I guess it's easiest to detect Rikki Lake--she tends to sing in a more natural voice while Nikki and Marissa stay in character.
-
Why do I feel like I'm being beaten over the head by the SUCH GOOD FRIENDS PR machine?
Probably because, throughout my life, people have told me that I've done way too little to put myself out there, to self-promote, to publicize. I can't tell you how many times I've been told "Your writing's great, but your PR sucks. And it's those who shamelessly yell 'Look at me!' who get ahead in this world, whether their writing's any good or not."
So, this time, with Such Good Friends, I've promised myself I won't keep my light under a bushel. (Ooh, sort of a Stephen Schwartz reference!) Now that we've 3-count 'em-3 shows by folks who post here heading to NYMF, I thought it would be interesting to keep a dialogue open about our progress and process. Of course, if any DR feels this is too much, I'll respectfully withdraw. (Ooh, almost sort of a 1776 reference!) :-\

DR Ron (and everyone else), you can take a break from getting beaten over the head by other PR machines, and get beaten over the head by my DVDTalk PR machine (it's a soft, fuzzy machine with the occasional rotating knife--a Monty Python reference). In other words, shameless self-promotion alert department:
My Simpsons Movie review has gone live:

And my Pirate DVD review should be live momentarily.

However, it is nice to hear Zac's real voice since most of his vocals for "HSM" were dubbed by Drew Seeley
This is certainly a day of disillusionment! :-\

Who did you cast? Did I work with a kid on LIB and Unsung? Other than Miss Minoff, and I don't think it would be her.

Re: Polka Party. DS Betsy, who grew up in Wisconsin, has often said she was in her early 20s before she realized that it was not a requirement at weddings to have a polka band.
-
Probably because, throughout my life, people have told me that I've done way too little to put myself out there, to self-promote, to publicize.
Keep the updates coming, DR Noel. HHW is a bushel-free zone.

Scandal? What scandal? Is there a link to the pictures?

HHW is a bushel-free zone.
Nope...no bushels here at all!

I spent the morning teaching lyric scanning to this fellow who wrote the musical I'm mentoring. He's never written lyrics, and his son has never written theater music, so it's a battle every step of the way to get them to understand CRAFT.
I tried to explain it to him yesterday, and I thought he understood because I gave him examples in his lyrics that work and why subsequent lyrics in the same song don't. What he'll frequently do is in stanza one come up with a meter and pattern that's fine. Then it will be different in each subsequent stanza, because either he just doesn't "get" it, or he's lazy. I'm being merciless and will not accept sloppy meter or incorrectly emphasized words. So, he sent me a new pass on the opening number's first go-through. He's never going to be a great lyricist, but the second and fourth stanzas (the a sections) didn't match the first - occasionally he counted syllables and had the right amount, but it required you to emphasize all the wrong words to make it work. I rewrote it so he could see proper examples of how it could work, and then I deconstructed each line so he saw technically how I broke it down - what lyrics were on pickup notes, what word fell on the downbeat, etc. Hopefully that will help him understand. His son is another story, but I'm still hoping he'll bow out and that I'll just do arrangements of the songs with Boswell, and rewrite notes as necessary. If new material is needed, the easiest and fastest way is for me to provide it (or someone I know).

OY! The Scorpio is coming out of me right about now...I'm cutting someone out my life. Unfortunately, it's someone I have to work with, but still...he's dead to me.
I got an email earlier today from my boss chiding me for wearing shorts at my show last night. She received this tidbit of information from one of the guys who works in the office, who happened to be at my theatre last night putting some locks on my storage cabinets. The thing is...he left before I changed into my work clothes (read: long pants and show shirt), and went back to the office today to tattle. Keep in mind, this is also the guy who covered for me this weekend while I was in Louisville, and walked off and left all my cabinets and sales booth unlocked and opened on Sunday night... As far as I'm concerned, he's a company spy and I'm through with him.
Thankfully, my boss allowed me to explain myself and was relieved to hear that I did not commit any crimes against the world of merchandising. Still...what kind of person goes and tattles like that? I expressed to her that I really wish he'd just asked me about my clothes if he had any concerns last night. I could've told him that I had my work clothes in my bag and there would have been no need to take the matter back to the boss.
Sometimes I just hate people. (Spoken like a true Scorpio...)
-
DR Jason, I would feel aggravated in that situation, too.
-
Wow, Jason, you work with a very petty person there!
-
DR Jason, I would feel aggravated in that situation, too.
Oh, I was LIVID when I got the first email. L-I-V-I-D, LIVID!
The thing that bugged me the most was that she believed that I would wear shorts during the show. She has even said it herself - I would stroke out if I tried to get away with breaking the rules because I'd feel too guilty!
I don't know what he thought he was going to get out of tattling on me, but it clearly didn't work the way he'd hoped...
-
As DR RLP would say...
The mind boggles!
:)
Now that he's spilled the beans and deprived of us of a contest to guess what type of music he would use to inaugurate the turntable, I have to say I'm completely not surprised it was polka music.
I have a feeling there are some wild and crazy polka parties going on in the MBarnum household after dark!
;D
-
Actually, Noel, now that I understand the motive, I totally get it. 8)

I think that the next time he blithely walks up to you and starts talking you should simply stare at him with no expression on your face and say, "Eat shit and die."

DR Noel - Just a "word of warning", as it were... Yes, hearing progress updates is all well and good, however, I'd be careful about the amount of detail - the number of "secrets" - that you're revealing. Yes, PR is a good thing, and self-PR is a good thing - and a necessary evil - but you may inadvertently be telling us too much about Such Good Friends.
I'm sure that many changes are still bound to take place, such is the nature of the beast, but I think there's something to be said for a certain amount of discretion. If we end up knowing everything about the piece before we see it, that could end up softening the effect of the piece when we see it live. There would be no real surprise, no real revelation. You're not giving away too many specifics, but even knowing in advance that something "cool and unexpected" is going to happen mid-way through Act 2 deflates the actual expectation.
And I've always thought that hearing about the "lost songs" and even the "bad songs" is something best left for after the production goes up. I've always been one to keep the creative process to myself, so that's where I'm coming from. And most of the big projects I've been on have purposely surrounded themselves with an air of mystery. You need to hint at what we're going to see, not spell it out for us. Sometimes too much information is, indeed, too much information. *Even when I was with Lestat, I would have rather had people find out what a turkey the show was in person rather than telling them that in advance. -'Cause, who knows? Maybe they might have loved it. And maybe I was too close to the project to be "audience subjective". And stranger things have happened. Even our very own BK also talks about his process in generalities. It just leaves us wanting more.
Are you blogging about you writing experience? That may be another way to get the word out there about Such Good Friends, and another way to share your creative process. And by setting up something on Blogspot or LiveJournal or MySpace, you'd also be able to provide hyperlinks to your blog in other posts that you post on other forums. That would also allow other creative-types to provide some input and/or share their stories - if you wish to read them.
And on a very personal note: Knowing that a writer didn't get it "right" on the first, second... or fifth or sixth try doesn't exactly make me feel good about the writer. However, if I find that out after the fact - and am able to hear the progression of the previous drafts - well, then it comes across as the progress of genius. When I hear about it as it happens - and I have many friends and acquaintances who write plays, music, books, etc. - it, frankly, becomes annoying. I mean, if you're throwing something out, do I really need to know that? When I go see a show, I'm seeing the final product, not the process. Additionally, since none of us are able to hear the old and new material you're writing, we can't exactly be a springboard for you - if that's what you're looking for. But, again, that's just me.
And that's my $0.04375 -Adjusted for inflation and cost of living in NYC.
-
Scandal? What scandal? Is there a link to the pictures?
I wish! Sadly, the only proof of the scandal is provided by a close listen to the "HSM" soundtrack - his voice changes after some of the verses. Plus, both Zac Efron and Drew Seeley have been very open and up front about the situation in interviews.
-
I trust that the next time he blithely walks up to you and starts talking that you simply stare at him with no expression on your face and say, "Eat shit and die."
I think he knows that he's on my shit list. Ask Jose - it's not hard to know when someone's on my shit list. Not that DR Jose has ever been on that list...he can just verify that I'm just a very easy person to read - especially when I hate someone. ;D

I was shocked to hear that someone was buying a turntable. It makes sense, of course, to play vinyl, but my tired mind just couldn't quite get it.
Mike Barnum, I love ya anyway.

Concur. I enjoy hearing about the progress of SUCH GOOD FRIENDS. I like to know what other H/Ks are doing, even if there's a bit of self-promotion there. When you're enthusiastic about something, it sometimes comes off that way, even when you don't intend it.

No. They all live in San Francisco now. ;D

OK - Time to head out into the heat and humidity. -It's Summer, so it's supposed to be hot and humid. Or as a friend of mine puts it: Humidity is God's way of telling you that you're wearing too many clothes. Whatever the frell that means.
Laters...

Regarding the creative process, I think JOSE makes some good points. There's another side, as well. As a writer, I've learned to be a bit secretive. Not for the purposes of promotion, but just because I've found that many people are sooo quick to judge. They may not have any experience of their own, often don't bother to get the facts, they just jump in and judge you. It can be very destructive. We're all human; we all have insecurities. It just isn't fair to judge a work that's in progress, unless asked to do so, in my opinion.
-
It's been coming and going.
Sort of like all the people.
In the Grand Hotel.

JASON,
I'm glad your boss allowed you to explain the situation.
-
It is very dark in THE FANTASTICKS land, I am sad to report.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~SUPER SUNSHINE VIBES FOR JRAND!!~~~[/move]
-
Jason, I think you should simply start referring to your co-worker as Mr. Blackwell (said with a sneer, of course). ;D As someone who had a longterm relationship with a Scorpio once, I can attest that there's nothing worse than getting on the wrong side of that stinger. ;D
-
One of my young assistants has created a page for the show: http://myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical (http://myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical) so visit that and become a friend if thats the sort of thing you do. What amuses me is that the lyric you hear, the first half of Like Love, has been completely rewritten. The other tracks include a duet between the stars of Our Wedding [
And someone whos recorded some of my favorite Lost In Boston/Lost Musicals tracks for BK has joined our cast. Shes all grown-up now, but weve heard what dress size she wore when she was a little girl
Who is singing these lovely songs, & will said people be in the show?
Who is the girl, all grown-up now?
Noel, please continue the posts about the show. It has been very interesting reading about the process & your progress. I wish you great success & wish I could be there.

Well, due to the influence of the missing-in-action DR Rodzinski, I have picked up a few nifty looking LPs over the years...some very cool 1950s covers...but had nothing to play them on...however, BIG LOTS happened to be selling this model for only $45.00 (normal retail is $159.99) I couldn't pass it up.

I was surprised how good the sound on it is! I am quite pleased with my purchase (and it plays CDs as well).

Hey, DR MBarnum -
Does that contraption RECORD cds from LPs?

Besides, how could I not buy an album that looks like this!

Unfortunately not.
-
Jason - That tattler sounds like a truly rotten human being. Was the email from your boss actually gently chiding you or strongly chiding you? Either way, I'd print and keep the email in case you have to show a pattern that the "tattler" can't be trusted.

From Matt H.
SPOILER SPACE
I know nothing about pregnancy (obviously), but I actually thought this might be the beginning of menopause for her. Of course, I don't know anything about that either.
Continued possible spoiler:
LOL-That is even less likely to cause a fever. Of course anything is possible, especially in a script. At least either of the scenarios could include a fever, not necessarily as a direct result.
I have problems with all the medical errors on HOUSE & my brother, the surgeon, had to stop watching all together.

Tomovoz, Jr. is so very cute.:)

On a smaller but similar level, something happened to me in the third grade, which has stayed with me for some strange reason. I had left my dictionary in my cubby at the back of the room and passed a note to Jacob who sat in the back to pass my dictionary to me. Ann Berdy was one of the students through whom the note had to be passed and she raised her hand and told the teacher I was passing notes. The teacher looked annoyed with me at first, but then opened the note and saw that I was just asking for my dictionary, and smiled and did nothing further, more upset with Ann Berdy's being disruptive than with me, since I was just trying to quietly get something related to my school work. So the name Ann Berdy has lived in playful infamy - I forgave immediately, but that was one person I never trusted. And if she ever googles herself and sees this story, i hope she's grown up to be less of an evil tattletale than she was in the third grade. :)

JMK-Now I want to rush out and see The Simpson's. :D

You can walk down Fleet Street to the Tower. I've done it. Perhaps you can't see it from Fleet Street in 2007?

Well, here's the latest kick to the lease problem: the people who had the space we rented haven't moved out yet! Sounds like the problem we have where we are.

I agree with everything you've said. I'm listening to the movie soundtrack again right now!

I'll bet these gals wore the same exact outfits for the ITALIAN DANCE MUSIC album cover (and the guys probably just undid a few shirt buttons.)

I began my afternoon watching WORDS AND MUSIC. The DVD looks simply grand, very sharp with excellent color. I got up to the Hollywood sequence. I may get the Garland segments watched later, but I really want to watch last night's BURN NOTICE before prime time TV kicks in tonight.
-
I spent the next three hours this afternoon watching the next 7 episodes of THE MUPPET SHOW. (This was the contents of disc 2.) All the episodes have moments of charm and are crammed with inventive, whimsical things.
It may puzzle DR JRand (and possibly others), but my favorite episode was the Bernadette Peters episode. Thes episodes are from the 77-78 season, so she's young. Her hair is long and styled, soft, and lovely, not in those (to some) irritating corkscrew ringlets that are her trademark. She sings three songs on the show, but she does a country song "Apple Jack" with a delightful twang that is SO charming.
-
The Steve Martin episode is very funny; he's cute as can be. Rudolf Nureyev does "Swine Lake" with an overstuffed pig and is very funny. Later he sings (badly) "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Miss Piggy in a spa wearing only a towel, and there is definitely NOTHING on under the towel. And he tap dances (poorly) to "Top Hat." It's still a very enjoyable show since he seemed game for anything.
-
The worst of the episodes was the one with Dom DeLuise. He's just not funny. Edger Bergen was a little too slow to keep up with the Muppets, and George Burns did his usual act though there was a funny skit with Gonzo acting as daffy as Gracie used to act. George asked him if his actions reminded him of anyone, and he had no clue who George was talking about.

Oh, FJL - You were a good little boy even back in third grade!

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.
I have long maintained that there are too many helicopters flying over town. If something happens in the neighborhood, the noise if deafening.
Well, about an hour and half ago, five news choppers and a police chopper were following a police chase. Two news choppers collided mid-air and all four people on board were killed.

I just heard about this on the news.

Luckily they crashed and burned in a park, which in the afternoon was pretty empty. I guess it could have been worse if there were lots of folks in the park.

The news also announced that Dick Cheney is having some procedure - tomorrow, I believe -involving his heart. I can think of a lot of families with folk in Iraq who are convinced he never had a heart.

What? Could you see knuckles and an elbow?

I guess I'll head down now and read some more of THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE before turning the home theater back on.
I mopped the kitchen floor this morning, so that is one chore I won't have to worry about for another week.

DR Jose makes a lot of great points and voices thoughts I had as well. I am all for self-promotion (obviously!) and I am glad that Noel has told us about his show, because I plan on seeing it while I'm in NY. I agree that he seems more "vigorous" about his promotion than others (I feel like I haven't heard much about STARFIGHTER at all!) but now that it's explained, it's perfectly understandable.
I like hearing the details of how the elements of the production come together, who is cast, etc. But as far as the writing of the show---that I would rather not know about because it clutters up my head with information that I don't want to know until after the fact. Then I can watch and appreciate the show with kind of a clean slate and not be thinking: "Oh, this is the song that was re-written 3 times, and then moved to Act II", etc.)
I think it wouldn't be an issue for me if I hadn't planned on seeing the show. And as an editor, I have to carry around hundreds of hours of material in my head about various projects I'm working on, and it doesn't seem to prioritize. It has to remember every version cut, every single shot that might be used, and it's hard to even dump out the old projects when they are done. So I would be carrying in a lot of pre-conceived ideas before I even saw the show.
I'm banking that having to remember things (like every piece of dialogue and shot from 3 seasons of THE CLOSER) is going to help ward off Alzheimer's!
Since others might like hearing these details about the plot and songs, maybe Noel could put them at the end of his posts, with a spoiler alert?
My $0.0325 (Atlanta inflation)

I know that since we did the staged reading of The Brain, I've talked a lot about its progress and the journey, but I do like to keep it amorphous and not detailed at all. The writing process is fascinating to those who do it, but when it's discussed too much then the writing begins to lose its magic because people have too much information - in the same way that movies have lost their magic because of these stupid extras that give away everything. I don't CARE how they did the FX, because the magic of them is that they ARE magic, until you know - then they cease to be magic. That's why magicians never give away their secrets.
Even when I'm mentoring this guy, I don't tell him how I go about things - I just speak in terms of craft and technique - my stuff is my business - if someone has specific questions, I'll answer them, but I don't go out of my way to discuss how I do things. SPOILER AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE KRITZER BOOKS BUT DON'T WANT TO KNOW TOO MUCH ALTHOUGH I'LL BE NON-SPECIFIC:
There is one aspect of all three books that people love and love a lot. And the few people who've pressed me about what's fiction and non are always disappointed (they try not to show it, but I see it clearly) that one of their favorite aspects of the book, while based loosely in truth, is mostly fiction. What that means is I did my job as a writer and everyone believes everything in the books is real. But, not everything in the books is real, and people are better off not knowing the specifics of what is and what isn't.
I do think it amazingly amazing that three hainsies/kimlets have shows at NYMF this year - what are the odds of THAT? Even though dear reader Noel was absent for quite a long time, I'm glad he's back.
-
The news also announced that Dick Cheney is having some procedure - tomorrow, I believe -involving his heart. I can think of a lot of families with folk in Iraq who are convinced he never had a heart.
Perhaps he's having an implant...just to see what it's like (you know, for "shits and grins", to coin a phrase).
-
Lindsay Lohan's driving me mad. Why isn't she just euthanized for terminal stupidity?
-

What?!? You mean there was no salami hanging on the front porch?
I am bitterly disappointed...

I think I'm actually through for the day! I finished carefully proofing for what I hope will be the last time. On Tuesday night we'll enter this final set of corrections and as we do each we'll check that nothing else gets screwed up on that particular page. Then we move on and do the same on each page. There really aren't all that many, and it should take about ninety minutes to do. I have to now write the dedication and the acknowledgments, and decide if I just want to go with Pogue's blurb or try to get another one quickly.
-
DR Jason---I think your co-worker succeeded in making himself look like a jerk to your boss. I'm glad you were able to take the high ground!
-
It's been cool in the home environment, as always, up until about two. Now it's broiling. Guess I'll have to turn on the air.
-
I've shipped stuff, I've organized some more, I've filled out a few forms that needed filling out, signed a contract with our General Manager, and am playing a nice Jobim compilation of his Warner Bros. years.
-
Tonight I will indeed be seeing a new documentary.
-
Still looking for a sublet.
-
The suspect in the car chase has barricaded himself in a house.
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
-
I will single-handedly take us to page nine.
-
Only had one envelope today. Expecting a couple more.
-
When?
-
TOD: Wing warbled to me today while I worked at the office.
-
Maybe Tomorrow, which is also the Song from The Oscar.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page nine.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
-
DR elmore3003 - Very sorry to hear about this latest roadblock. :(

TOD: Wing warbled to me today while I worked at the office.
Are there co-workers there? What do they think of Wing?
Do you like Jonathan and Darlene, DR Laura?
-
I lock everyone out when I'm there.
Jonathan and Darlene? I am intrigued.
-
DR Laura - If you love Wing, you'll LOVE Jonathan & Darlene. :)
-
Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers.
I have long maintained that there are too many helicopters flying over town. If something happens in the neighborhood, the noise if deafening.
Well, about an hour and half ago, five news choppers and a police chopper were following a police chase. Two news choppers collided mid-air and all four people on board were killed.
That's horrible. :-[
-
DR Laura - If you love Wing, you'll LOVE Jonathan & Darlene. :)
;D
-
Jonathan & Darlene did a wonderful version of "Stayin' Alive"
-
Rudolf Nureyev does "Swine Lake" with an overstuffed pig and is very funny. Later he sings (badly) "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Miss Piggy in a spa wearing only a towel, and there is definitely NOTHING on under the towel....
Sadly, the same cannot be said for Mr. Nureyev. ;)
-
All this Hairspray talk has me thinking of the lovely James Marsden:
And did you know that the lovely James Marsden (He's lovely...absolutely lovely!! ;)) is BK's very own landlord? :D
-
One of my younger friends has a 60th birthday luncheon today. I shall be attending the function so shall be truant from HHW for a few hours. I don't know is there will be cake.
-
I found Jonathan and Darlene on Amazon. They are something else all right!
-
I found Jonathan and Darlene on Amazon.
What were they doing there? Shopping?! ;)
-
Jonathan & Darlene did a wonderful version of "Stayin' Alive"
It gives me 40 Whiplashes just thinking about it...
-
I don't know if there will be cake.
Well, if there is...
Bring us back a piece!
:)
-
All we are saying is give piece a chance.
-
Can't we all just get along?
-
Instant Karma.
-
Just add water.
-
All we are saying is give piece a chance.
Visualize whirled peas.
;)
-
But kids: Don't try this at home!
-
Not at the price of peas here in OZ DR George - droughts and then floods have had a major effect on vegetable growing and prices.
-
Skip is at his rehearsal.
I have nothing more to say.
-
And one for Marsden
-
That is the title of my next novella: Vegetables: Friend, or Foe?
-
M-m-m-m-m-Marsden's gotta let go!
-
Instant Karma.
Make mine deca!
-
That is the title of my next novella: Vegetables: Friend, or Foe?
The German version will definitely be:
"Fegetables: Vriend or Voe?"!
-
Can't we all just get along?
But where is "along"?
-
The word for today is "ratatouille!"......
-
But where is "along"?
Hey, like -
Far out, man! 8)
-
I'm just sitting here playing on the Internet, having just read all the one-star reviews for the new Lindsay Lohan movie, I Know Who Killed Me, which Tri-Star has conveniently not screened for major critics. Of the minor "critics" (judging by their photos, all idiot kids with websites, which is why rottentomatoes is ridiculous), and one legit critic, this must be one of the only movies with no positive reviews on that site.
-
I won't be eating dinner until around eight tonight.
-
Well last year I took jhvw on the fall New York trip....this year I invited my niece Samantha and she will be joining me for NYMF!
-
Sam has an incredible voice. She was Audrey in The Little Shop of Horrors that I raved about last year. She's never been to New York and since she'd love to be in show business, I thought she may like to come along.
I'm really glad she said Yes
-
I told her how to get to this discussion board, so hopefully she'll be introducing herself soon.
-
Re: live car chases. On one of our trips to L.A. several years ago, we checked into our hotel and turned on the tv and there was a live chase going on on the 405, IIRC. The guy pulled over, got out of his car and shot himself in the head, all right there on live tv. We were aghast--we didn't even have time to react (luckily the kids were very young and not really paying attention, plus I don't think they understood what was happening anyway). The worst part was they had a live audio feed from the studio, and the two anchors were actually laughing about it!!
-
Last night DR Jason posted the SWEENEY TODD movie poster:
His needs were few, his room was bare but damn--look at that view! Can you imagine how much a place like that would go today?
Click HERE (http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/sweeneytoddposter.jpg) for a much larger version of this poster! What's funny is that if you read the text exactly in the order that the words are on the poster, it says, "JOHNNY DEPP IS A TIM BURTON FILM...."
;D

I can't wait to have that implanted in France!
You sure know what "entertainment" is in the US!! :-\

Samantha is young, tall and beautiful. She has a great personality and I think you guys are going to love her

Did I just see who I thought I saw at the end of Extra tonight?!?
-
On a smaller but similar level, something happened to me in the third grade, which has stayed with me for some strange reason. :)
LOL FJL. this is a great story!
-
Did I just see who I thought I saw at the end of Extra tonight?!?
SPILL!

That's very sad, at least the police chopper wasn't involved.
-
Did I just see who I thought I saw at the end of Extra tonight?!?
Was it BK and Lindsay Lohan or DR Jose and Carol Burnett?
-
In today's UPS shipment:
The MGM musicals box (Finally!)
The Mummy HD DVD
The Mummy Returns HD DVD
Krups 1 1/2 qt. ice cream maker (Amazon's gold box special on Wednesday)
-
Was it BK and Lindsay Lohan or DR Jose and Carol Burnett?
Was it FJL and Ally Sheedy?
Or DR Jason and Bernadette Peters?
-
SWEENEY TODD the Perfect Christmas film for the family!! ;)
The perfect one for me.

The perfect one for me.
Are you looking forward to this one, Larry?
-
Was it Hugh Jackman and TPunk?
Or vixmom and an Elvis impersonator?
-
Are you looking forward to this one, Larry?
Very much.

While we're in New York, I do want to take Sam to a Broadway show...I know it will be a lot in the little time we have. Of course I'd be happy to see CURTAINS for the 6th time, but I'm thinking since her response to my invitation was OMG about 10 times, Legally Blonde may be the show. Any suggestions...it will be her first trip to New York and her first Broadway show
-
Did I just see who I thought I saw at the end of Extra tonight?!?
Click HERE (http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2007/07/lynda_carter_blasts_hollywoods.php) for a video segment of Lynda Carter talking about "Hollywood's Obsession with Thin." They did the interview in a recording studio and mention that she's got a new cabaret act that they're recording for release in the fall, but I didn't see BK anywhere. :-\
-
Cilla-How young is Samantha? I look forward to meeting her, unfortunately I still doubt it will be in NY.

WICKED.
-
As soon as BK and Vinnie saw the cameras, they vamoosed right the hell out of there. They did shoot b-roll as she was singing, so I know we're in those shots, but I hope they never ever show them.
-
I tried to make this same post from AOL, where it is STILL trying to go through. BRILLIANT!
-
I wonder how many posts I can make via Safari before AOL gives me an error message of some stupid sort.
-

-
Cilla - get Samantha on the board immediately. We used to have so many fun youngsters here, and they bring a good energy.
-
Cilla-How young is Samantha? I look forward to meeting her, unfortunately I still doubt it will be in NY.
She's going to kill me....I don't remember exactly, I want to say 20, but maybe it's 19
-
Gee, I guess it finally went through and now we have two of the exact same post.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
We'll take Samantha on a backstage tour of The Brain if you and she would like that.
-
I'm getting very hungry, and yet I will not be eating until after eight. I've sort of got a hankering for Carny's, but that would be a bad thing to do.
-
And isn't it funny how in the last year dining has gone from being a seven to eight affair (that's always been the case - people would look at you askance if you wanted to dine before seven or even eight), to a five-to-six affair. It's really amusing.
-
Cilla - get Samantha on the board immediately. We used to have so many fun youngsters here, and they bring a good energy.
I will she was running late for dinner with her boyfriend. The airfare sale ends tonight, so we had to get her flight and seats booked right away. We're on the same flight and got seats next to each other.
She's really funny. She just finished a one day workshop with the Second City folks who were at the Lake. She's also been to the Donna Reed Festival several times and taken the classes and workshops there.
-
LOL Cilla-You are close enough to give us an idea of her age.
-
I'm told that we now have our costume designer signed, sealed, and delivered. She's another from the Tony Walton fold - so, that's excellent news. What is not excellent news is that there has been no word if the LACC funding meeting took place and no one is responding to my e-mails. I'm going to have to take a stronger stance on Monday.
-
Will we never get to page twelve?
-
Guess I'll take a nice shower now, and then get ready to go see a documentary.
-
Cilla I sure wish I had had an aunt like you.
-
WICKED.
OH I don't think I can do WICKED again.
-
We'll take Samantha on a backstage tour of The Brain if you and she would like that.
It would be wonderful. I'm sure she'd love it and so would I. Thanks
-
Cilla I sure wish I had had an aunt like you.
Thanks Jane. Since I don't have kids, it's fun to do something special with them when I can.
-
I wish I were going & could take Samantha to see it. How many times have you been?
-
Cilla - to my way of looking at things, the LEGALLY BLONDE musical - while quite flawed - is also a tremendously entertaining show about the value of education and the potential inherent in applying your interests and life experience to what you learn in school. And it makes its point subtly, in a highly entertaining manner, but I thought the points ultimately came through. Very entertaining and very worthwhile content for a young adult.
-
The young ones always seem to like "Rent," well, except for mine.
I loved "Drowsy Chaperone."
-
Did I mention that LEGALLY BLONDE is entertaining?
:)
-
From what I'm told, Drowsy is not doing well - with the loss of Bob Martin apparently half its laughs are gone.
-
Are we still on page twelve?
-
I'll be leaving in about fifteen minutes.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page twelve.
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
-
I'm now actively hungry.
-
I wonder what sort of meal I'll end up having?
-
From what I'm told, Drowsy is not doing well - with the loss of Bob Martin apparently half its laughs are gone.
They should have cast Ant.
-
Nike announced today that it has suspended Michael Vick's contract without pay and will stop selling all Vick-related products at its stores.
-
I'm now famished.
-
I doubt whether I'll get back to Isadora tonight.
-
Try not to scarf down your food too fast.
-
That was a terrible choke.
-
I'm now wanting to eat the table, that's how hungry I am. This documentary better a) start on time, and b) be really well paced for all of its ninety minutes.
-
I also read recently, that the new Blade Runner special edition will have a newly-made feature-length documentary about that film - want to know just how stupid and out of control this nonsense has gotten? The feature-length documentary on Blade Runner runs an hour longer than Blade Runner - three and a half hours worth of long.
-
Did I mention that LEGALLY BLONDE is entertaining?
:)
Her response to my invitation was OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!
-
your punstering isadorable DR FJL. (Makes DP's Colin's day. We have sad and dreary lives)
-
Here's a photo of Jhvw, Sam and her boyfriend Chris. She's normally much blonder than this...
-
Everyone can smile for a camera but me. (almost a Madame Rose reference)
-
Before the page stopped moving I thought the photo had been taken on the tea-cups at Disneyland.
-
LOL, no it was at my mother's 80th birthday party.
-
Everyone can smile for a camera but me. (almost a Madame Rose reference)
My new quest in life...get a photo of Fred smiling...

Re: Isadora. One of my first presents to DS Betsy (then DGF Betsy) was a long silk scarf. On the card I cleverly wrote "Watch out for Bugatti's." She asked, "Is that some kind of disease?"
We just had the world famous Kauffman Chocolate Cake in honor of Gabe's 11th birthday, which is today!!
-
Happy Birthday DS GABE!!!!!!!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GABE
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GABE, DS OF DR JMK!
-
Happy birthday, Gabe
-
Cilla, nice photo once I focused. Your nephew & niece sure are good looking.

Suggestion on our news here that "they" reportedly want to charge the guy in the car in Phoenix with contributing to the death of the Chopper people!
The law is an ass.
The press is a bigger one!
-
Tomovoz-LOL!
-
Good Evening!
Back from seeing "Hairspray" for the second time, and I have to say that it held up very well. I think I liked it more this time round, in fact.
So... Has any other DR who has seen the movie laughed out loud at the brief tribute/reference to Little Shop of Horrors? Well, I took it that way. And laughed. :)
-
And back from trekking around midtown for a while.
When we got out of the movie theatre, it felt like it had cooled down temp-wise, and that the humidity had dissipated too. However, about an hour later, the humidity crept back up. But it's still a nice evening in NYC.
-
Happy Birthday, Gabe!
-
DR Cillaliz - Are you sure DR jhvw can't come to NYC this fall too? ;)
-
After reading the following article, it seems to me the pilot & reporter should not be the same person. I had no idea they were. :ohttp://www.azstarnet.com/sn/related/193690.php
-
DR Cillaliz - Well, if Sam wants to see A Chorus Line... Although, I can actually help you out with tickets for your other choice too. ;)
-
Thirty minutes of MONK's un-character-motivated behavior and annoying quirks and I need a drink. I can't believe this show, which I enjoyed the first two seasons, is so lacking in humor, sense, and good writing. I think Diedrich Bader's a hoot but neither he nor his bare ass is making me laugh tonight. Tony Shalhoub used to be a good actor. WTF is all this self-indulgent nonsense he's doing?
-
DR elmore - One martini, Two martinis, Three martinis... Floor.
-
Suggestion on our news here that "they" reportedly want to charge the guy in the car in Phoenix with contributing to the death of the Chopper people!
The law is an ass.
The press is a bigger one!
But if the police hadn't chased him there would be no reason to have the choppers in the air. Unless he had committed some very major felony, there is no justification for a high speed chase.

Hmmm I have too many movies to see this weekend. Maybe I'll go to the 9:35 showing of Hairspray
-
DR Cillaliz - Are you sure DR jhvw can't come to NYC this fall too? ;)
Sorry, they have to take turns...I haven't talked to him in a long time... do you know what he's up to? ;)
-
DR Cillaliz - Well, if Sam wants to see A Chorus Line... Although, I can actually help you out with tickets for your other choice too. ;)
I'm seriously thinking about Legally Blonde. I'll talk to her in the next couple days so we can plan things. I totally caught her off guard tonight. So I'm sure she hasn't thought about it at all.
-
Granted there is no justification for a high speed chase. Yet I don't think he should be responsible for the lousy piloting skills of the news teams.
-

I don't either. High speed chases really irritate me. Usually the cops know who the person is, where he lives and the offense isn't that serious. There is no reason to do it and it risks way too many peoples' lives
-

Keith's response "What is that show still doing on the air!"

I'm sitting here smiling just thinking about LEGALLY BLONDE. Quick. someone get a camera - ooh, darn the smile's gone.

Friday evening greetings! This morning my mother and I had a lovely scenic drive through Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Stow, OH, to Cleveland. She read newspapers in the Foundation Center library while I attended an Advisory Board meeting. We left Cleveland at 2pm, drove through Columbus rush hour traffic in torrential rain, and arrived at her house just before 7. I arrived home just ahead of DS Rob's girlfriend who drove from Canton, OH, encountering the same weather and traffic. We all had pizza for dinner and now I'm unpacking and thinking about crashing.
-
DR Cillaliz - I haven't had a chance to tell you how thrilled I am that you'll be in New York when we are - and that you're bringing your DN Sam along!
-
Ginny I'm pleased you all arrived home safely.
-
'night
-
But first, welcome CarsTMnew!
-
Ginny I'm pleased you all arrived home safely.
Jane - thank you. I did a lot of driving in less than 36 hours to attend a 2-hour meeting, but it was better than being at work trying to look busy on my last day before a 10-day vacation!
-
DR Cillaliz - I haven't had a chance to tell you how thrilled I am that you'll be in New York when we are - and that you're bringing your DN Sam along!
Thanks Ginny, I'm really looking forward to it. I just sent Sam an email with lots of theater links. I'm hoping she'll stop in here soon
-
Well, I missed the late show of Hairspray. Maybe I'll go tomorrow.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
Naturally.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
Ten and beyond, I suspect.
-
Will we never get to page twelve?
Yes.
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
With posts like this, quicker than you think.

I didn't get a chance to see BURN NOTICE as I had planned to do before prime time began. When I went downstairs, a friend called and said her daughter was having some girls over for a sleepover, and one of the girls who was supposed to bring HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE on DVD didn't end up coming, and could she please borrow mine. Only trouble, she needed it then and couldn't leave the girls alone to come get it, so I drove it over to her.
She promised to cook dinner for me one night, but I told her that wasn't necessary. I bet she'll do it anyway.
-
Once I got back, I had about twenty minutes before prime time started, so I started another MUPPET SHOW episode and almost got to the end. It was the Elton John episode, one of the best of the season. He sings four of his hit songs in ever more outrageous outfits, and then when the Muppets finally decide to all dress like he does, he switches to a conservative suit.
A delightful episode, and Elton was at his cutest (and hairiest except on his head) then.
-
GHOST WHISPERER had some genuine jolts for me tonight. Good scares and a gripping episode.
One reason I wanted to see the show was that the focus was on the husband rather than on Melinda. Sadly, he didn't take off his clothes this week. :(
-
I liked the case on MONK tonight, DR Elmore. I thought it was an above average mystery this week, and I did laugh a couple of times at the foolishness.
-
Page Fourteen Harry Potter bubble bath Dance!!!
-
I found PSYCH's riddle very easy to figure out tonight. I enjoyed the show as usual, but the mystery was quite obvious.
-
I have some writing to do, so I'll get to that and then head down for bed.
Good night!
-
Gosh, is someone deleting posts?
-
Page 14- again!
-
Cleaning off my DVR I find that it taped the WHAT'S MY LINE episode that aired the Sunday after Dorothy KilgallEn died.
It will be interesting to see if it is a somber episode or if the humor will still be there.
-
hello lovelies and studlies.....
I finished a long but productive day a little while ago, and I went outside after dark and had a liitle quick dip in my pool, for one of the last few times I can do that. The yard is very private, and it's dark, and so it is lovely to plop in the water "au naturel"... That is something I will miss.
I've loved reading the day's posts .... such fun and diversity. Dear DR Jason....don't ever let me get on your bad side!!
Dear Esteemed and supple BK -- ... is James Marsden really your landlord?? hmmmmm....
-
Hi dear Fred...... Hi Pogue.....
I think it is close to falling-over time for me, so I shall say..... goodnight, Herr doctor.....
....................Ovaltine?........
-
Oops, I stepped away form the computer and left it on HHW. Sorry I missed you, MusicGuy.
-
A PLOP IN THE POOL - that's the title of my next "Pretty Little Picture" parody
-
I come home from a screening and dinner and I'm the only one in the jernt? Skammen.
-
Ah, a customer!
-
Guess what I'm eating?
-
Julie, what are you doing up at this hour? :)
-
Guess what I just ate?
-
Hi all - just back after a late night. Started the evening meeting my friend Barbara for some Chinese food. Then we walked over to the Abingdon Theater and saw a show called "Sin," a play by Wendy MacLeod, which I actually found quite interesting once I got into it. It's billed as a Contemporary morality play. It takes place in San Francisco right before, during and after the 1989 earthquake, and interposes the natural disaster of the earthquake, amidst the troubled times of the AIDS epidemic. The production notes state that the play investigates how we pass judgment on other's shortcomings and the blurry line between "sinning" and just being human.
-
Bk - A cherry ripe?
-
After the play was over, I got together with the producer of Monday night's show at Town Hall, and we spent several hours dealing with ticketing issues, and sorting out the various Industry and cast comps that we had to make we seated appropriately.

BK must have gone off to write the notes.
Good night, Julie.

Julie - Is it too late to quickly call you? (Nothing urgent, though.)
