I have three DVDs from Netflix that I must watch this weekend.  The problem is that I don't even remember the name of any of them.

CDs
- In my car, THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

       -  In my living room THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X

       - If I had a copy I would have SUCH GOOD FRIENDS in the bedroom.  (Boy, how many years since I said that in a sentence?).

I'll be leaving very early tomorrow morning for a week with my family in Stone Harbor, NJ - one block from the beach!  Zach will be riding down with me.  DH Jayson will be joining us on Sunday from a business trip to Cincinnati this week.  He'll be bringing the trusty laptop, so I will be able to stay in touch after Sunday.

Good morning, all!  When I woke, I was having a strange dream involving a benefit concert in which the special guest never showed to end the concert.

Today, I have what may become a long afternoon at Toyland Two, waiting for the Verizon person to show up andinstall our phone lines.  Sometime between 1 and 5.  I'm hoping ot's more like sometime between 1 and 3, but we'll see.  Yesterday, we finished unpacking all cartons and the office is now resembling an office.

Last night I answered my phone to find that our Missouri stalker who's hot for a BABES IN TOYLAND CD release date had tracked me down to my apartment since he was getting no response from the office!  The last time I spoke to him over six months ago, I told him that when something finally happened, he would be the first to know.  He's made about 4 calls in the past month to the office and we've ignored them since we've been dealing with more important issues than providing the same answers about a CD release. I'm sure our stalker's a nice person, if a bit obsessive, but I didn't appreciate getting a call at home around 7 pm last evening to listen to his requests and tell him I could do nothing.  I wonder if the Fat Conductor's behind this?

TOD:
  DVD:  The Pirate, Hot Fuzz
CD:  The Firebrand of Florence, Guy Haines, Susan Egan, Jeepers Creepers
  VCR:  something involving home repairs

I was going to also watch the Box set of Governor Arnold movies. ($8.99 at Costco) I put one in and they are not enhanced for 16 x19. I believe previous releases were enhanced but these are not. Well, the kitchen is clean, I am clean, and now I'm going to head down to midtown for my "work day".  Although, playing auditions always seems more like "play" rather than "work" - especially when I'm playing for The Mouse.  -And one of my favorite casting directors.  Always a good time.  I don't start till Noon, but I have a few phone calls to take care of, and I always seem to handle business calls better when I'm not at my apartment.  Maybe I'm thinking I'm "in the office" instead.  In any case...

A couple hours of auditions, followed by a show.  Then lather, rinse, repeat tomorrow.  -Although, tomorrow night's show is ACL - back on Key 2 for the night.  Then Sunday... Then Monday... etc., etc., etc... You get the picture.  OH!  I guess I can bring my laptop with me, so... Hmm... OK... That's enough rambling for now.

Laters...

John's Pizza might be a good place for a pre-show dinner...at least it's BIG!

(I'm trying to keep my eyes on the prize in the midst of all this mess.)

Speaking of...

Hope it isn't her. Way past her prime. She is really more of joke now. If she did do it Forbidden Broadway would have another of the devasting and spot "tribute" to her.

Sure....kick her when she's down!  Trash her but good!  That'll show her!

BK, don't know where you got that info, but Sylvia Telles is definitely not the first person to record a Jobim song.  As I mentioned way back, you can find Jobim recording his own stuff as early as the early 50s, and then his collaboration with Elizete Cardoso (generally thought of as the beginning of his "classic" period) spans from the mid to late 50s.  Sylvia was one of the first, but not the first.

You really should check out Elis Regina.

This morning I'm listening to the incredible MPB4 singing songs of Milton Nascimento.

We leave on our Bar Mitzvah adventure vacation tomorrow--don't think I'll have much internet access.  I never heard from any L.A. HHWers so I assume either they have an uncontrollable urge to gambol or my being a lesbian means they have no time for a get-together.  Jane, we'll call you when we're getting into Ashland on our way back.

After seeing the previews of Tony Shalhoub doing his "couldn't you just zigzag around the bugs?" spiel, I can tell that MONK is becoming more and more of a show I dislike, DR MattH.  I'm glad you're still enjoying it, but every episode these days only increases my loathing.  I can't believe his broad, over-the-top performances are up for another Emmy!

I'll say this about NYMF - they want everything done on a timetable, which is fine.  But, thus far, I will say that their inner workings could use some work - they haven't met any of THEIR timeline re tech specs and such (all finally done, but weeks late), and this ticket thing is not good but has hopefully been fixed.

Not to belabor the bridge thing, but I got an email that had this in it today and the photos are quite amazing to me.

Bob Winzenburg is a friend of Scott Brown, son of ex-Viking Bill "Boom Boom" Brown.  Scott's sister, Kimberly, was in the middle of the I-35 bridge when it collapsed.  She, her friend, and their car fell 65 ft and survived with just cuts and bruises.  After landing she got out of her car and took a series of pictures, great pictures.  You can view these pictures on http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/popup?id=3439572.

I don't think that I would have had the presence of mind, having survived the bridge, to take pictures.  I would have been scrambling to get to solid ground!

Local news had a feature on how to escape a car that is being submerged.  They showed a gadget that you can purchase for $5.00 or so...you tap your car window with it, and it instantly shatters.  Handy thing to have.  Although I guess car thieves might also find it useful.

Actors Playhouse (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/110012.html)

in Greenwich Village is closing. I saw many shows there over the 27 3/4 years I have lived in New York. Sad to hear that yet another Off-Broadway space (as cramped and uncomfortable as it was) will be shut down. The economics of Off-Broadway are so shaky now that it's practically impossible to make money and producers would rather take the risk and move something to Broadway.

Got the signed agreement back from the owner -- FINALLY -- for the NYC sublet.  I think I made the mistake of letting the broker know it was two young guys (boy, do you young males have a bad rep for trashing places...) so when we got it hashed out that Cason and BJ were not two young hooligans and would respect the property and the neighbors, the deal progressed.  I think she was more leary of two young male actors in her place than I was about sending the one-month's rent off to a stranger in NYC before Cason physically arrives ... we were equally Nervous Nellies  ... (damn Bukowsical! and Mr. Ego Man Cast Member for costing me this extra housing money with no Boo-Key getting to play the part afterall... ...the one good thing about having to mess with this is that with how picky she's been and all the delays getting her to sign off on the deal, it makes me pretty sure it's not a scam -- so if indeed it turns out I've been fleeced, then the broker and her deserve the money, cause they are good -- really good -- at making it seem ligit....and I would have to give a tip of the old Con Game cap to them ...

Hey, DR Ron Pulliam--have you ever driven Hwy 1/101 from the Redwoods (as in No. California around Klamath) to SF?  Or vice versa?  DS Betsy had mistakenly put 284 miles, which is what some dumba** site gave her, but when we got our AAA Triptych it said 384, and when I did Mapquest it said 335 with a driving time of around 6 hours.  We don't want to rush anything, but at the same time have nonrefundable hotel ressies in SF, so I'm wondering if we can comfortably do it in under, say, 8 or 9 hours?

DISCUSSION OF LIVE FEEDS AND LAST NIGHT'S HOH COMPETITION

*
*
*

I'm surprised that nobody has discussed BB this year. Is nobody watching?

Anyhow something happened last night during the HOH comp that has been really angry.

Apparently a banner plane flew by and a bunch of them saw it.

It said, "we heart nick, eric and amber are liars".

Now i don't care if the HGs know nick was really on their side. Or that amber is a little witch. But it has been so angry that eric's entire game is probably ruined because dick and daniele saw the banner plane.

They've pretty much figured out that he was the one who cast the votes for kail (last week and this week).

I just find it so unfair that his game will be ruined because the producers had an endurance comp and people were smart enough to fly the banner planes then.

I think daniele might try to backdoor eric. And i don't think he will be able to talk his way out of this one.

On  the other hand, I hope I remember to set the recorder for PSYCH before my eveninfg out with DR Jose.

I think my ratio of like to dislike in terms of MONK episodes runs about 1:4. I just saw that MONK preview while watching BURN NOTICE, and it didn't increase my hopes that tonight would be one of the good ones (I did enjoy last week's show).

On the other hand, PSYCH's preview make me laugh out loud.

Sorry, but no, I dunno.  I'd trust MapQuest AND AAA!

re: BIG BROTHER

DISCUSSION OF LIVE FEEDS AND LAST NIGHT'S HOH COMPETITION

I think daniele might try to backdoor eric. And i don't think he will be able to talk his way out of this one.

They can always skew the POV toward him.   Simple, really, since he's the pawn of the producers anyway.

I hate this season.  I dislike everyone in the house EXCEPT Zach and Jen, who I thought was the worst human being I ever saw in the first two weeks.  Then, I heard her admit (either to Julie or the Diary Room) that she was putting on an act.

I detest Eric!  I despise Dick!  I loathe Jessica!  I think Amber is totally loony tunes, and a liar and a bitch.  I despise her for that act she put on last night when Nick left.  It was Amber who accused Nick of voting for Kail, and it was Amber who suggested that Nick be back-doored when Jameka used the POV to save Jen.   Amber, Eric, Jessica, Daniele, Jameka and Jessica are some of the weakest, lamest players this game has ever had.  Dustin isn't far behind them.  I don't know what's up with Zach...he's pretty much defeated since his alliance bit the dust.  They keep targeting Kail and then back-dooring someone else.  It's time Kail stepped up and did something constructive with the other disenfranchised players...if there ARE any.

Dick is anoter "Cappy" and he and his "bitches" run the house.

I'd hate to see either Dick or Daniele win.  Ditto Dustin or Zach.  I'm not sure about Jameka.

Next, I watched HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. I watched it at my friend John's house in December on a 19' TV through the TV speakers, and so I recorded it off the Disney channel the other night, and got to see and hear it in more favorable conditions.

The sequel is coming on the middle of this month, so I wanted to put the show back in my head in preparation for that. I'm sure down the line I'll be getting the DVD to deal with, so I considered this homework.

DR JMK - I've done that drive up and down the Redwood Highway.  -Isn't the Redwood the same as US 101?  Or at least close to it.  In any case, if you're not sight-seeing, bird-watching, and have no traffic delays, you can make the trip in about six and a half to seven hours.  Otherwise, eight to nine hours should be fine.  -And I'm pretty sure it's closer to 384 miles rather than 284.  Just keep tuning into whatever station is running the traffic alerts to see if there's anything you should watch out for.  Oh, and I seem to remember some tolls along the way too.

Friday afternoon greetings!  Today's weather here in Wisconsin is more like I expected - warm, but not humid.  Until the rainstorm during yesterday's matriculation ceremony, it was very hot and humid - not much different from SW Ohio.

Last night I learned how to save a jpg file to a memory stick and today I learned that you can take said device to Walgreen's and they can print multiple 5x7 copies of the photo.  Each person who matriculated yesterday now has a copy of their group photo.  Ain't technology grand?

On a recent transatlantic flight, a plane passes through a severe storm.

The turbulence is awful, and things go from bad to worse when one wing is struck by lightning. One woman in particular loses it. Screaming, she stands up in the front of the plane. "I'm too young to die," she wails. Then she yells, "Well, if I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on earth to be memorable! Is there ANYONE on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN?" For a moment there is silence. Everyone has forgotten their own peril. They all stare, riveted, at the desperate woman in the front of the plane.

Then an Italian man stands up in the rear of the plane.

He is gorgeous, tall, well built, with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

He starts to walk slowly up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt...one button at a time.

No one moves.
 .......He removes his shirt.
 .......Muscles ripple across his chest.
 .......She gasps...
 .......and He says......

"Iron this, and get me something to eat ..."

Unfortunately, most people who buy that device, keep it in the trunk.
I am not kidding!

Yes!  In the glove box you have a better chance, but I guess there are still circumstances where you couldn't access it, even there. The hardest part about the whole thing would be trying not to panic, I would think.

In my work CD-ROM drive:  an MP3 disc of (the complete?) Wall-To-Wall Stephen Sondheim concert from 2005!  I'm in the middle of the fifth hour.  About a quarter of the tracks have little technical goobers (computer-type noises that weren't from the actual concert), but nothing that's horribly distracting.  The worst parts (for me) are when people flub their lyrics. ::)

ORANGE AND ALMOND CAKE

2 Unblemished oranges
1.5 cups blanched almonds
1 cup castor sugar
5 eggs (61 gram)
1 tsp baking powder
icing sugar for dusting

Butter 8" cake tin.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Place washed oranges in a saucepan, cover with cold water, bring to boil, cover pan and simmer for TWO HOURS Add extra water during cooking when necessary.  Drain oranges and allow to cool.

Blend almonds and sugar in a processor until almonds are in quite small pieces. (most of them will be ground). Transfer to a plate

Blend WHOLE oranges to a purée in the processor.  Add almond and sugar mixture and blend briefly before gradually adding eggs and baking powder - blending until smooth.

Poor mixture into tin and bake for one hour.  Cool for 10 minutes before unmoulding onto rack.

Dust with icing sugar before serving.

SIMPLE = even I've made it!

We've had a tentative "yes" from the actress, but her agent is asking for gas and parking money, and it's just way too high an amount at the moment.  We're countering with a much smaller amount, and trying to impress upon them the "spirit" of the endeavor.  Hopefully, that will work, but I won't know until Monday.

BB SPOILERS

I've been watching this season and I actually like it a lot. I'm not sure why, but I do.  Dick amuses me. Amber should go home. Her crying bs is for the birds.   Eric can't last forever, the votes "America" is asking him to cast are too unpopular. Someone is bound to figure him out and Dick and Danielle are close.   The banner was not good, but sometimes I wonder if the Producers don't have something to do with it...to mix things up a little.

I don't particularly like Jen or Kail and wouldn't shed a tear for them.  Jameka...oh please...God has already decided who is going to win BB. LOL, more power to her, but that's going a bit far. So, do I really like anyone...no, but at the same time, I am enjoying the show

RE: BIG BROTHER LIVE FEED SPOILERS

They can always skew the POV toward him.   Simple, really, since he's the pawn of the producers anyway.

I suppose. But this twist really screwed him.

From all that i've read, most people think that CBS will not even show the banner plane. Or tell everyone how this turned the whole game around.

I really think CBS should find a way to correct this. Not fair at all. Especially since it's only partially true (eric is not a liar, he simply had to do a few tasks set forth for him).

CBS should hire another plane to counter that message!

Quote
I hate this season.  I dislike everyone in the house EXCEPT Zach and Jen, who I thought was the worst human being I ever saw in the first two weeks.  Then, I heard her admit (either to Julie or the Diary Room) that she was putting on an act.

I really dislike so many of them this year.  But i am starting to like jen.  She just dismisses dick's stupid antics. And i like that. But i don't like how distant she is and how emotionless she comes across.

I really dislike zach.

Quote

I like eric. I sometimes like dick alright. But his behavior is completely out of control. I really have grown to like jessica a lot. I am so glad that she told eric what daniele and dick are planning. I like that she did not turn on her friend. Plus she is so sweet and fun. And she rarely says bad things about people.

I also dislike kail.  And i've had it with amber.

Quote
Dick is anoter "Cappy" and he and his "bitches" run the house.

I'd hate to see either Dick or Daniele win.  Ditto Dustin or Zach.  I'm not sure about Jameka.

I sort of like jameka sometimes. I think what she did re: jen last week took guts. Although it was sort of stupid. It's not like jen chose her (player's choice).

I began my evening with THE LOOKOUT. Isn't it wonderful to come across a movie that's had no hype, doesn't have huge stars, and it ends up being a terrific little thriller with a very interesting main character. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the victim of a brain injury who has trouble doing rudimentary things in life. He's cannily manipulated into aiding some guys into robbing the bank where he's the night janitor. A character study that becomes a riveting heist movie with its aftermath is very well done. Written and directed by Scott Frank (who wrote the screenplay to MINORITY REPORT). Also in it are Jeff Daniels, Matthew Goode, and Bruce McGill.

I managed to watch one bonus featurette all the way through, the star of the film talking about his preparation for the role of a moderately brain-injured person.

Next came MONK with another of those COLUMBO-like cases where we know who did it early on and have to watch him piece things together. Yes, the shenanigans with Monk were as silly as the previews implied they would be. Not a good one this week.

TOmorrow, I'll probably finish up the special features on THE LOOKOUT (a making of documentary and an audio commentary). In the evening, I'll probably watch ROVING MARS on Blu-ray. I've already seen the standard definition version of the film, so it'll be interesting to compare the two of them.

I'll probably get to 300 on Blu-ray on Sunday.

Noel - So how did you mention BK (not by name) and even The Last Starfighter at last year's NYMF (also not by name)?

Or are you going to force us to listen to find out?  :)

Nobody should be forced to listen to something that long.  Jim Dale's brilliant rendering of the complete Harry Potter series flies by in seemingly less time; I'm like molasses.

The interviewer pointed out that I was at a distinct advantage by being in New York to assemble my Such Good Friends crew, cast and creative team.  This led me to reference a certain NYMF show creator from Los Angeles.

Are they full productions?  Yes, the main 36 are.  But I confused the issue by mentioning that I'd seen a few "mere" staged readings at last year's NYMF.

No, I didn't sing over the phone.  I provided the same low-tech recordings I have up on the MySpace http://www.myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical (http://www.myspace.com/suchgoodfriendsthemusical), and the NYMF site http://www.nymf.org/Show-74.html (http://www.nymf.org/Show-74.html), although here you can hear eight

DR Jose and I were caught in a big downpour and I arrived home soaking wet.  I've taken a hot bath and I shall now watch my taped episode of PSYCH.  DR Matt H, I wanted to see THE LOOKOUT in the theatres and somehow missed it.  I will Netflix it soon.

DR Jose and I saw THE PEOPLE VS MONA again tonight.  Jim Wann and Patricia Miller were there so I got to visit with them as well as some of the cast and the band afterwards.  I hope they can transfer it with this cast.  The Pasadena production was in 2000 and there are scenes and characters no longer in this wondewrful show, BK.  I see as well it was done by Paul Lazarus and that's a major strike in my book.  The score, cast and band are so wonderful! Someone, BK, should record it.  I think it's got a long life in it.

And, YES, I had a wonderful time at The People vs. Mona!  Thank you, DR elmore, for "dragging" me along tonight.

Oh, DR Cillaliz, don't sell yourself short!  ;D

LOL, I didn't mean that she has to learn I'm not nice, I AM nice... that is how it reads.   No, Nadia doesn't have any experience as a secretary, but I knew that going in. But she's great as an interpreter and wants to learn the rest...plus she's a joy to be around. She makes me laugh.  The "Life is too short to have a grouchy face" is a comment she made when talking about her grouchy cousin.   When I get a little irritated she says "Ok, Priscilla, time to breathe"  it just cracks me up and is exactly what I need.  The rest she can learn...and she has a lot to learn.

As for castor or caster sugar... It's superfine sugar.  Not powdered or confectioner's sugar, but "superfine".  Some grocery stores do carry it - it comes in handy for iced tea and other cold drinks that need to be sweetened.  However, you can also make your own by placing some "regular" granulated sugar in a food processor, and giving it a couple of whirs.  -Just be sure to let the sugar dust settle before opening taking the lid off the bowl.

Goodness!!!

Sounds like you have a spy camera on a Community Theatre group.

Busy Sunday. In the morning I have  fundraising brunch to go to, then after that there is Truman Club (you pay a fairly nominal fee to the local democrats and get invited to small gatherings -maybe 30 people-with each of the candidates for President when they come to town) at 1:15 PM with Bill Richardson, then he has a rally (I may skip that) then I'm invited to Nadia's father's birthday party.  Monday noon it's a Truman Club event with Obama.  I have to reschedule something to go to it, but I really want to meet him, so I'll reschedule

"Rainy Night in Georgia" should be more widely known. If it had been written in the thirties it would have been a classic.
