In the past no DVDs were shipped to DGA members in the absence of a formal policy on the matter, but now that there is one, the price may be high.

Oh, my...I'm watching/listening to Len Cariou and Elizabeth Taylor in the movie version of "A Little Night Music." TRULY DREADFUL!
By the by...there's audio of the first preview of THE LITTLE MERMAID on YouTube, as well. Ms. Sierra Boggess (Ariel) is fantastic singing "Part of Your World," and the orchestrations are fantabulous.

Aaron Russo, 64, film producer, manager
LOS ANGELES - Aaron Russo, who managed Bette Midler and went on to produce such films as "Trading Places," has died at age 64.

Born in Brooklyn in 1943 and raised in Long Island, Russo began promoting rock and roll shows at a local theater while still in high school, according to a biography he wrote and posted on his Web site. When he later opened his own nightclub in Chicago, Russo said he promoted some of the most successful rock acts of the 1960s including Janis Joplin and The Grateful Dead.
In the 1970s, Russo managed Bette Midler, producing the Tony award winning "Clams on the Half-Shell Revue" starring the singer. During that time he also managed The Manhattan Transfer.
Russo eventually turned to producing feature films including "The Rose" which starred Midler in 1979 as a self destructive rock star and later "Trading Places" in 1983 which starred Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.

Good morning, all! No, DR Tomovoz, I have a short trek to Toyland this morning, mainly to retrieve items I forgot to take with me yesterday. I'm working on a proposal, and I need my ammunition.
My only other plans for the day are a bit of work on the proposal, and dinner with the Gilfrys. I may run over to the Raines' home and hug Charlotte one more time. Her mother Dona and I were talking about how much we will miss her. Last night, during the intermission, she gave me a look and I swear I had never noticed such a resemblance to Dona D Vaughn before! I won't see her until Christmas, and never before have four months seemed so interminable. I was selfishly pushing for University of Cincinnati since it's only 40 minutes from my hometown, and I suspect my trips to Ann Arbor will be few.

Both of the HEROES episodes I watched had running commentaries with them. One was a scattershot affair with three guys (two actors and one of the writers) jabbering away without listening to each other and not allowing the audience to hear clearly what was being spoken. The other had a writer and director clearly talking in measured tones about their work on the episode making for a much better listen.

Suppose we have arrested an undocumented immigrant in for a non violent offense (something for which a jail term of less than two years might be expected):
If the offender is willing to plead guilty, accept a sentence of 1 year, suspended, and volunteer for instant deportation; and, this arrangement is satisfactory to the prosecution, is there a way, at arraignment to effect this deal?
I'm looking at ways to address the Sanctuary cities issue. -
We should require the authorities to establish residency status (properly needed for a bail hearing).
If someone in custody is not a legal resident, then they should be incarcerated until trial or turned over to ICE for deportation (but we all know ICE has not the means to effect mass deportations).
Allowing a plea as stated above would remove the defendant from the country and provide a real disincentive (automatic incarceration) for re-entering illegally.
(I would also make a stipulation that should a defendant enter into such an agreement, that conviction would not be a cause for an automatic rejection of a down-stream request for a visa.)

Well, she was nine when we started going to movies: EVER AFTER was the first; I remember that DRAGONHEART, which I thought she would love, terrified her and we left after twenty minutes or so.
When she first started walking, Ron would walk her over over when he would stop by to borrow music or recordings, and she met a lot of the neighbors on my floor. My artist neighbor Judy always asks about her. One day, when she was around three, he walked her past my building and she stopped and asked if they were going to visit me. When I occasionally babysat her here, she loved to play with the wind-up toys, like chattering false teeth and various bugs, I used to have on my piano. My memory is that I gave them all to her, but I also have a memory of visiting with her and her mother while all these crazy wind-up toys rattled around the floor.
I wish I had a scanner; I have a great photo of me holding her the day she and Dona came home from hospital. She isn't more than a week old.

I was recently watching some old GL clips on Youtube and watched Ron.
I do have to say one thing in PnG's defense, at one time you could tell why their shows were the best with quality writing and production values.
YR seemed to recognize that formula continued with it.

Actually, Dakota, she did not win BGT. Paul Potts won the competition. The appearance before the Queen is in December, but I wouldn't be surprised if she also get to perfrom before the Queen.

Record low unemployment across parts of the West has created tough working conditions for business owners, who in places are being forced to boost wages or be creative to fill their jobs.
John Francis, who owns the McDonald's in Sidney, Mont., said he tried advertising in the local newspaper and even offered up to $10 an hour to compete with higher-paying oil field jobs. Yet the only calls were from other business owners upset they would have to raise wages, too. Of course, Francis' current employees also wanted a pay hike.
"I don't know what the answer is," Francis said. "There's just nobody around that wants to work."

The meeting was long and boring, but everyone got their points across, especially about all the extra costs we're all going to incur. I gotta tell you. But I have a great tech director (he's doing two other shows at the Acorn) who really has gone to bat for us and won us all of our important needs, including wig mics rather than those atrocities that run along the cheek, and being able to get rid of a scrim that all the other shows seem to want, so that we can project onto the cyc - projecting through a scrim ONTO a cyc would look distorted, so that was an important battle.

I did see Skip when I arrived and peeked in on the meeting previous to ours, but by the time we headed to the room Skip had skipped out. Skip's very own B.D. Wong, who's directing one of the shows at the Acorn, was there, but before I could say hello, he, too, skipped out - he was on the As Thousands Cheer CD.

It got just as hot as they predicted, and right now, the chance for rain doesn't seem promising. There are clouds, but they don't look like storm clouds at all.

I watched four more HEROES episodes. There are two remaining. Each has a commentary.

However, the most astounding thing I've ever seen on a video set was on disc five - a game called Matt's Mind Reader (Matt Parkman is a character on the show who can read people's thoughts.)
(All of these things are done in your head. You enter no codes into the DVD player. The only thing you ever hit is the enter key to go to the next screen) You start with a two digit number. You add the two digits together and subtract it from the original number. You find the picture of the hero that matches the number you've arrived at in your head. You hit the answer key, and there pops up the picture of the hero you had in your head.
I'm telling you, it's ASTOUNDING! I don't know HOW it knew which number I had in my mind to start with or to end up with and I tried the game three times and it got the answer correct (three different numbers and three different heroes) every single time.
IT FREAKED ME OUT!!

I just finished reading all of yesterday's posts...now to today's! I'm home with nothing to do except ketchup on HHW posts, record a whole bunch of episodes of an anime show called "Code Lyoko" for my friend Margo's daughter and watch other shows that I have recorded so that I can delete them from the DVR. Last night, I watched the last three episodes of "Psych" and today I want to watch a few episodes of either "Kyle XY" or "Mad Men." Either way, it's a lot of TV watching...and recording.

Back from a very nice dinner at what was indeed Mr. Biggs - I had a soft shell crab sandwich, and Miss Patti had a turkey burger, and we shared some spinach parmesan dip and some wings. FJL came and said hello and even brought little giftees - a fun book for Miss Patti and a Last Starfighter limited edition comic book for the likes of me.

I must confess I know nothing about how to use it, how to "friend" people (strange verb, that) and vice versa. One of the many wonderful things people have done to me while I'm embroiled in writerly tasks.
It's been a week of punching up... every joke's been gone over, in a not-always-fruitful search for something better. And I'm taking another look at the "feels" of the songs. One ballad had a G/C as its second chord, and that always bothered me because it sounds so distinctly un-1950s. Didn't come up with the replacement until this weekend. Playing "Love Look Away" (an echt 50s ballad) for DW Joy helped stimulate the idea.

My almost 2 year old niece today.
1. She stubs her toe and proclaims to me, "oh shoot, auntie, my foo-te, my foo-te".
2. She is at home and picks up the tv remote. She presses a bunch of buttons and turns it on and says, "where's my show?"
3. She is barefoot, finds her sandals,, puts them on and announces bye to everyone, "bye, i going on a trip."

I've had a wonderful dinner at Swagat as the guest of Mr Rodney Gilfry and his delightful daughter Carin. The apartment that was set in June for Carin's life as a Juilliard Student has fallen through, so tomorrow I will spend the day running around the Upper West Side with Rod on an apartment search. Should be fun. And frustrating.
DR Jose, we tried their desserts: Rod had the Indian rice pudding which I thought tasted watery, Carin had mango ice cream, and I had saffron ice cream. Both flavors were quite wonderful, but I haven't figured out yet what the stringy goop over the ice cream could be: spun sugar? ginger? noodles?

Well, I was planning on staying home and watching TV and recording some shows for my friend Margo's kid (which is what I've been doing ALL day), but I just got a call from my friend Josh (we were in Cannibal! The Musical and Taming of the Shrew together) asking if I wanted to go see "The Last Legion" with him and another friend, Bill (who was also in Cannibal and Shrew. I said yes...so, I'm off to the movies. But first, I must get dressed. ;)

Busy relaxing. I must say, I am really glad I've not got sucked into network television in years. I watched a bit of something called Big Brother 8 (I presume there were seven others) and if that's what the world has devolved to count me out of network TV). I then watched the first ten minutes of something called Cold Case. "Hip" direction (well, hip two years ago - it does take TV a while to catch up to movie "hip") that is just stupid and never serves the story, a most unappealing cast of regulars, none of whom I've ever heard of, and a completely idiotic story. And this is what a hit network show is? Count me out.

Well, here' the short version...
-D Train to Rockefeller Center.
-Bought a nice umbrella at the Tumi Store - I've just always wanted a Tumi umbrella. -Happy Birthday, To Me!
-6 Train to Brooklyn Bridge.
-Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.
-Walked around the Court House area and part of Red Hook (I think)
-Eventually found my way over to Junior's - the original location.
-Had dinner at Junior's - salad and Hungarian Goulash. Very good. Alas, no room for the the famous cheesecake. -And I didn't even eat all of my noodles that came with the Goulash.
-Walked back to Manhattan, but this time across the Manhattan Bridge.
-Walked through Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, The Village and Chelsea.
-Stopped a Pinkberry for some of their frozen yogurt topped with mochi.
-Grabbed the A Train up at 23rd Street. Transferred over to the D (express) at Columbus Circle.
-And now I'm home...
...And will probably head out for a bit. Again. "She" is home with her boyfriend, and I gave her a big "hint" about the stuff she left in the fridge the past two weeks - which I finally ditched and cleaned this afternoon - and also asked her if she still needed the cookie sheet. -The one she left out two weeks ago (which she used to make the stuff I threw out earlier). Ah, the joys of passive-agressiveness. Or whatever this bit of childishness is supposed to be called. ;)

All in all, a wonderful day, and as DR Noel mentioned, the weather was actually pretty decent. Temps just hovering around 80, partly cloudy skies, lower humidity. Made for perfect picture taking conditions - and, yes, I took a bunch of pictures. -Which I will post once I get them downloaded from my camera and formatted.

DR elmore - The ice cream topping was most likely faloodeh or falooda which is made with broken pieces of vermicelli. There's an Indian pudding that's made with bits of noodles instead of rice, payasam, and sometimes it becomes a sauce.

bk - As for early morning jogs, well... I like to stay a bit closer to home (the 140s) when I go for a run. And I've also never really been much of an early-morning jogger. Although, with my upcoming schedule, I may have to become one.

I love Brooklyn Juniors! I went there after walking across the Brooklyn bridge in a snowstorm! (I guess I was blazing the trail for you!)
I also have VOD on Comcast, but even though I have HBO and some other premium channels I can't get the Bollywood channel without paying extra. :'(

Needless to say, we were all stunned, for lack of a better word, at her response - or lack thereof. However, we all sensed that she was feeling a bit cornered since she seemed to be trying to get back upstairs (to her boyfriend) really fast.

The bonus features involved separate looks at the stunt department, the special effects department, the music department, the man who does all the paintings and comic books for the show - all interesting features if not thorough enough (especially the one on special effects).

I spent a lot of time watching the HGTV Design Star show. I enjoyed it. Especially the person who was sent home tonight

I also watched the original 73 (unaired) pilot episode which featured a couple of storylines that were dropped from the show before it aired. Some special effects were also tweaked from what appeared in this pilot (the final moment with Nathan and Peter flying looked very poor in this and quite wonderful in the aired first episode).

The comments by themselves are hilarious and are on every single video - just read lovesmusicals, sartists (in some of these posts he identifies himself, in some not), and showqu - all the same on each video "I saw Bernadette and this woman blows her out of the water" "I just saw the Company revival and these three singers blow them out of the water" "Who is this talent, where did they find her?" "Why isn't this show on B'way?" Are these people thinking that folks reading the comments don't see what's going on? I mean, unbelievable!

As to Cold Case, believe me, I know it's a hit show. Just not for me, based on what I saw this evening. Worse is Shark - I like James Woods, but boy is he slumming for bucks in this cliche-ridden tripe.

I've never watched SHARK and had no desire to from the start. The show's promos just screamed cliche to me. COLD CASE, on the other hand, I frequently find very emotionally affecting.
Quite a few episodes of COLD CASE have brought me to tears at the end. This and WITHOUT A TRACE are the only dramatic series I've seen for more than one episode so I don't have much basis for comparison, but I like the show and the main actress.
