Thanks to the actor playing Rod, the Xanadu tix were less than half price and were ninth row center.

BK - Are you ending up seeing Legally Blonde this weekend?
-
I've just come in from a lovely cabaret outing.
Lee Lessack and Stephen Schwartz (whom I hear is a personal friend of bk) performed at the Pittsburgh Renaissance Hotel, and what a performance it was!
Lee is a lovely person, and his parents are quite a lot of fun, too. Lee sang a lot of Johnny Mercer songs, including a medley of "In Other Words/Moon River" (the former NOT being a Mercer lyric), told Mercer anecdotes and held the audience in thrall for the better part of an hour; Stephen, who also seems as lovely person (I didn't get to spend as much time with him), sang solo for about a half an hour, opening with his "Dreamscape" and closing with his "Forgiveness' Embrace" with songs from WICKED, CHILDREN OF EDEN and THE BAKER'S WIFE in between. Lee joined Stephen for "For Good" and a rousing, closer "Day by Day."
Following the performance, there was a meet and greet in the foyer, where I finally got to meet Mr. Schwartz, who confessed to me that his singing wasn't at its peak tonight, when we discussed the gorgeous, though challenging "Forgiveness' Embrace." Refreshing to find that this award winning composer is so down to earth and brutally honest with his fans.
Mr. Lessack and I spoke before the show, he recognized me from myspace (not to mention my uncanny resemblance to Martin Mull), and after the show, he offered to let me be his guest when he returns to the tri-state area in February with "Three Men and a Baby Grand."
Lovely venue, lovely music and two very gifted, lovely men got my weekend off to a truly lovely start.

I saw the "Three Men and a Baby Grand" show last summer with our very own BK during his cabaret series. I was also fortunate enough to meet the lovely DR Adriana Patti and her wonderul DM. You will love the show td

Were you drinking a cabernet at the cabaret?
-
Welcome home, Freddy!
-
bk - Glad to know that you had a good time at Xanadu. *And I'm glad you weren't able to see A Chorus Line tonight. ;) :-\
-
And if you do still want to see A Chorus Line tomorrow... The house seats have been released, and I think you can actually use the Season of Savings vouchers for this weekend. Or just check broadwaybox.com.

bk - So, are you really rehearsing on Monday? On Labor Day? Does Equity know? ;)
-
Were drinking a cabernet at the cabaret?
Indeed I were.
-
Good to see you, DR Danise. -And, yes, take plenty of breaks, and remember to eat and keep hydrated. -Preferably with something with an umbrella in it. :)
-
The TOD confuses me.
Is there anyone here fonder of camp than BK?
I know there are kitsch lovers, but BK, you are a creator/producer of camp, FGS. "The First Nudie Musical"? "The Brain From Planet X"? I don't see anyone even approaching you for love of camp.

Although cooler outside this e'en than previous ones, I still must avail myself of the AC for sleeping.

I enjoyed day one of my 5-day weekend.
I mopped kitchen and bathroom floors.
I took down and washed some curtains.
And I refused to agree to assume the responsibility of receiving, addressing and delivering letters/literature for an organization that solicited me over the telephone.
Imagine! A telephone soliciation in which an organization thanks you for support they could not possibly know about (I gift charities anonymously) and then tells me they're going to send me materials that "I" will be addressing and delivering to my neighbors and friends. HAH! I say, "HAH!" Again, "HAH!"

Why hello there, DR Edisaurus!!! Can you enjoy any time this weekend at all, or are you going to be work, work, working on your impending move?
-
After my feline wake-up call, I wanted to pop in and see if there was any news on Freddy the feline. Now I can go back to sleep happy!
The advice about the tune water is great! Also, you might consider having the vet give him subcutaneous fluids. It's relatively cheap and they could give him a vitamin shot as well. I bet that would perk him back up in no time!
Does he look a little more svelte now?
-
Camp Classics: my life!
[no, not really..]
-
Why hello there, DR Edisaurus!!! Can you enjoy any time this weekend at all, or are you going to be work, work, working on your impending move?
Oh yes, working working, but that kind of work is fine to me!
Last night we assembled a tall bathroom storage tower we bought at IKEA. It looked fine in the store, but when we put it in the bathroom, which is small but with no storage space, it looked huge!
Unfortunately, we decided to stand it up in there in mid-assembly, but AFTER we had nailed on the back. So although they have a good return policy apparently (it's my first purchase there) I wonder if they will take something with nail holes???
-
I love camp films that weren't camp when they were made, or at least they didn't realize it.
I don't like films that are made to be campy, like my SLEEPAWAY CAMP II and III movies. (Although they could really be considered "campy films" in one respect!)
-
I wonder how the ranch dressing is at Joe Allen's?
-
DR I Ching, you are certainly up early on what I would presume is a day off for you!
-
I couldn't say, but a phone call first might save you a disappointing trip!
-
I agree; unintentional camp is ever so much more fun! :)
-
When I ordered my "Dirty Book", a surprise to the first buyers was promised, but all I got was the book. Unless the autograph was the surprise...but I ordered early to get an autographed one. Did I miss something?
-
I'm just incapable of sleeping in. My body likes a regular schedule, and that means getting up at roughly the same time every day, no matter what. But it doesn't seem to object to naps later on!
-
It's not too far out of the way to go back, and I may end up buying a smaller version of what we got.
I suppose this is why people hire decorators! It did look small in that huge store!
-
I ordered Dirty Book, but all I got was this lousy T-shirt? ;)
-
I have never been incapable of sleeping in! That's a good quality to have---I'm sure you get a lot more done.
-
I suppose this is why people hire decorators!
No, don't hire decorators.
They might do your whole new house in faux camp classic.

I'm sure you get a lot more done.
Oh, sure...

Well, Zach has been patient with me up until now, but I think he thinks it's time we found a patch of grass outside.
Have a great day, Amy! :)

Oh, coffee girl=the girl who started out as a barista and is now managing the shop. She's a sweet girl, kind of a noveau hippie and very nice. Her boyfriend is similar but of the age where he knows "everything". My DH tried not to laugh when he dissed our green egg smoker ("people think those are healthy but they're not") and wanted us to take our microwave with us because they're not healthy, all the while smoking cigarettes!
We realized that we'd better put up several smoke detectors, too. I'm glad we won't be returning to this house because I'n very allergic to smoke.
Her furniture doesn't smell smoky, though...maybe they only smoke outside.
-
I will be interested in hearing how the transfers go. I need to do that myself!
-
You might tell him that roaches and fleas aren't healthy, either...
-
I will still take another box of records to the shop today---I got $50 in credit for my last box of lps.
-
Well, I haven't seen or felt any fleas yet...
I should ask my cat who is so allergic to them!

I will be interested in hearing how the transfers go. I need to do that myself!
But you've already got DH Greg handling the VHS => DVD angle, correct? ;)

bk, how did August '07 rank in terms of posts and hits?

OK. Really better go. Back later! :)

Next week at this time the movers will be arriving!
And I had another bout with Comcast yesterday---I called to ask them how much it would cost in deposits to have no interrupted service. I got a recorded message that I had an appointment for yesterday, one which I didn't make! (They have done this before, scheduled service calls when I've called about other matters, and then left notes that I've missed my appointment!)
I finally got a live person, who said "Oh yes, you made an appointment to have your service discontinued this morning."
Wha????
It turned out that the new tentant had discontinued her service at her old house yesterday and they were confused and thought they were turning it off at my house!
Bur also, true to form, the appointment to do this was from 11-2 and I was calling at 6 and they were able to fix it because they never showed up for their appointment.
So they acted like they were doing me a big favor for me to have cable another week when they didn't even do anything. I raised hell, something I rarely do, and now they are going to discontinue service at the old house on the 10th and start it at the new house on the 8th. Which is what I asked for in the first place, several days ago, but they swore they couldn't do without it costing me hundreds of dollars in deposits. Oy!
I'm glad I finally got someone who actually seemed to have a brain! I hope...

Good morning, all! I spent the evening watching something not on my list yesterday: John Schlesinger's THE DAY OF THE LOCUST, which actually ties in to the DVD of MY SISTER EILEEN I had received earlier courtesy of DR Matt H. Eileen McKenney was married to Nathanael West, author of the novels MISS LONELYHEARTS and THE DAY OF THE LOCUST; they died together in 1940 in an autmobile accident. It's a long film, but the cast was wonderful (DR MBarnum would like Pepe Serna's contribution), and it seemed quite faithful to my memories of the novel. I enjoyed it. The score is credited to John Barry but I couldn't say how much of it he actually wrote beyond the clownish music for Burgess Meredith and the nightmarish holocaust at the end: my memory of the film's music now now is only the popular songs of the mid-1930s.
Speaking of 1930s Hollywood, I will be obtaining soon a copy of the 1930 screenplay by Anne Caldwell for BABES IN TOYLAND, and I will be curious to see how closely it follows the original plot since neither the Hal Roach nor Disney films do. I have another morning trek to Toyland, as well as a bit of Brain Surgery today.
Camp films? The first thing I think of is THE ATTACK OF THE 50-FOOT WOMAN.
-
When I think of camp, I think of The Lair of the Golden Bear.
This was a camp organized for the allumni of the Univeristy of California, Berkely, and my father is one of the allumni. Every year, when I was young, we would head off for a two-week vacation, the first week being spent at said Lair.
The cabins were half-cabins, comprising of wood floors and half-walls, the upper halves and roof being made of canvas. There was a pool, and a nightly campfire, and entertainment. The staff at the camp was comprised of current students at UCB, and they made sure that the families attending were well taken care of, particularly taking care of the kids so that the parents could have some fun on their own.
This is what you mean by camp, right?
-
Freddy needs a sub-dural GPS chip, or something. But it's good he's back again.
-
Only a couple of people are rehearsing Monday but for most it's a day off - it's pretty much just our leading man and woman, etc.
-
Joe Allen doesn't even attempt ranch dressing.
-
Frank, I was using that line in 1975! And it was a chestnut then.
When you were a mere babe of ten?!?!?!?
You started the camp camp at a young age, I take it.

-
I just had a thought.
For some stange reason I was thinking of J. D.SALINGER'S novel THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. It was published in 1951. The leading Character was HOLDEN CAULFIELD.
Is it possible that Mr. Salinger got this name from a movie marquee. ?
In 1947 Paramount(I believe) released a movie called DEAR RUTH. It starred William HOLDEN and Joan CAULFIELD.
Just conjecture on my part
-
DR elmore - I concur with you on THE DAY OF THE LOCUST! One of my favorite down films since I saw it in its initial release. Pepe Serna is indeed someone MBarnum should check into.
I think the film captures the essence of the book quite vividly; Donald Sutherland's Homer Simpson is indeed a chilling portrayal, and I've often wondered if Matt Groening was a fan of West's novel.
-
Inspired by comments from François, I watched a bit of HALF A SIXPENCE when I got home.
My, that Grover Dale is a dream to watch. What a dancer!
I agree completely. I love Grover Dale! I wish we had more opportunities to see him.
-
Good morning!
A bit cooler today (85) and it's a bit overcast, so we may have some rain which we need. In the entire month of August (which featured several days above 100), we had .41 inches of rain.
-
Count me as another fan of the film of DAY OF THE LOCUST. I was delighted that it finally got a DVD release and enjoyed seeing it again after so many years away from it.
-
The STRANGER THAN PARADISE DVD set from Criterion is two discs, so that's going to take me a goodly amount of time to get through. Jarmusch's first feature film is also included in the set along with a bunch of interviews.

My favorite camp: Crawdad Camp, where they remove the crawdads (a non-native invasive species here) to let the native fish thrive. The crawdads are then recycled into dinner for the campers.

DC Freddy bounced back very quickly to his old self. I could never make him an indoor only cat. He enjoys being outside so much. He is such a mixer and all his cat, dog, and people buddies are outside and he likes to make his social rounds each day to visit Judy and her dog Jack and Gladys and the new couple a few houses down. Plus a new cat friend has been showing up to visit Fred (and Bosco) every morning in the back yard.
It was so wonderful to wake up this morning and play "rub the belly of the beast" with Dog Bosco and Fred.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And one of my roommates is in the midst of packing up and getting ready to head back home to Redding, PA, for a few days before she heads to China... :(
*Of course, I would have a different emoticon if that other roommate was packing up today. -Alas, she's not even here today - and she sort of avoided all of this past week, so... Needless to say, it's been kind of quiet at night lately. 8)
-
Well, even though she's left the building...
DR edisaurus - IKEA will take back furniture that's already been assembled. Their 100% money-back guarantee is indeed that (at least in my experience). I think the either put the used furniture on the floor as display item or they put it up for sale at a reduced priced in the "As Is" room. *I like the "As Is" room since most of what is in their is discontinued items along with the old floor models and scratch-and-dents.

Humor, it seems to me, is a very personal--and perhaps peculiar--thing. Like DR RLP, I was surprised by BK's words that he doesn't care for camp. Yet, I didn't care for NO SEX, PLEASE, WE'RE BRITISH or Monty Python, while I adore Dame Edna. Perhaps some forms of humor are cultivated tastes. Some of the humor I so loved in my younger days is not so funny to me now. I now prefer humor that is more than just sight gags--I like it to have some bite, which is probably why I like Dame Edna so much. Brilliant satire. Camp? Oh, yeah. Deliberately.

To pre preorder simply send a paypal payment of $24 (cheaper than anywhere else) and $5 for Priority shipping (total $29) to kritzerland@adelphia.net and a copy will be reserved for you. We’ll be shipping in about three to four weeks.
So that is why you simply gave us the email address! I’ll place the order now.

I don't think that'll be the last word on the subject! TNT will have the networks allied against them with the FCC. Indeed, this could add fuel to the push to put Cable under stricter FCC rules.

I understand the reasoning, yet it really doesn't seem fair the stations can't air their shows because the guy is now running for president. But then in a rational world his acting career t wouldn't make a difference politically. You vote for the person because you like their political views, not because you liked the character they played. I'm sure that is how everyone chooses their candidate, despite their looks, political party, etc.

I understand the reasoning, yet it really doesn't seem fair the stations can't air their shows because the guy is now running for president.
The real issue is whether or not the government can require broadcast TV stations to pull re-runs and not cable. The Feds have relied upon the "public airwaves" theory to justify their control over broadcast television. However, many (mainly conservatives) would jump at the chance to pull cable under the same rules as broadcast using a "public policy" justification.
Note: The Conservatives want Fed fairness controls over TV (where the liberals hold sway) but reisist the same control over radio (where the conservatives hold sway).
My view: I think requiring the pulling of re-runs of dramatic shows under a fair-time argument is silly. That said, I do think that whatever re-run rules are applied to NBC should be equally applied to TNT (I do, however, support stricter censorship rules for broadcast TV).

You vote for the person because you like their political views...
Not necessarily!
Analyzing the electorate gets a bit tricky.
In the last Presidential Election many votes were cast "against" a candidate rather than "for" another. (I voted to deny Kerry the White House, and the only way to do this was to vote for Bush.) In 1996, I wanted to deny Clinton another term, but by the time I got to the polls (I delayed on purpose) the election was already over, so I voted for Perot as a protest (I didn't really like either Clinton or Dole). It was interesting watching all the analysts dissect the Reform party vote looking for the policy reasons people voted that way. The political pros even split over whether the Reform Party registrants should be classified as "left-leaning" or "right leaning" - a critical issue for those of us directing direct-mail political campaigns.
der Brucer
And for what it's worth, come 08, I would vote for Clinton to deny the Oval Office to Sam Brownback or Mitt Romney

TEXAS SOCK-PUPPETS?
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,295481,00.html)
Texas Woman Claims to Have Found Mythical 'Chupacabra'
CUERO, Texas —
Phylis Canion lived in Africa for four years. She's been a hunter all her life and has the mounted heads of a zebra and other exotic animals in her house to prove it. But the roadkill she found last month outside her ranch was a new one even for her, worth putting in a freezer hidden from curious onlookers: Canion believes she may have the head of the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra.
"It is one ugly creature," Canion said, holding the head of the mammal, which has big ears, large fanged teeth and grayish-blue, mostly hairless skin.
Canion and some of her neighbors discovered the 40-pound bodies of three of the animals over four days in July outside her ranch in Cuero, 80 miles southeast of San Antonio. Canion said she saved the head of the one she found so she can get to get to the bottom of its ancestry through DNA testing and then mount it for posterity.

On the Road
BY JOHN SEMMENS
More than 39,000 people were killed and 1.8 million injured in traffic accidents last year. The economic cost of these crashes was approximately $140 billion. A substantial number of the crashes involved drivers -- and vehicles -- that shouldn't have been on the road.
Many solutions to the carnage have been offered over many years. One obvious solution has been avoided. Assign responsibility for vehicle safety inspections and licensing drivers to the one institution with the most to gain from keeping bad drivers and unsafe cars off the road: the insurance industry.

AUTOMOBILES VS. THE HORSE!
THE INDEPRNDENT (http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=199)
On balance, the environment is getting better. Consider the case of transportation. The internal combustion engine is frequently singled out as a prime culprit in the pollution of the environment. Yet, the internal combustion engine vehicle is clearly less polluting than the animal-powered transportation it supplanted. A horse produces 45 pounds of manure per day. This emission, in an urban context, typically generated a horrible smell and mess. Further, it provided a breeding ground for insects, vermin, and the diseases associated with filth. In contrast, the emissions of internal combustion engine powered vehicles pose a much smaller threat to human health.
Neither should the efficiency aspect be ignored. A gasoline powered vehicle can travel farther in one hour than a horse can in a day. Therefore, on an emissions per mile of travel basis, automobiles are less polluting than horses.
Automotive technology has not stood still since supplanting animal-powered travel. Autos last longer, travel faster, and use less fuel per mile now than they did when first invented. In terms of pollution emitted during the operation of autos, noxious emissions per vehicle mile are down 70 percent to 95 percent since 1970. In most cities, the ambient air is cleaner now than it was 20 years ago.

I did run the last two episodes of THE CLOSER's first season while I cooked and ate lunch. I just love those episodes.
Jason O'Mara is such a hunk, and the chemistry he has with Kyra Sedgwick crackles. And of course the BIG surprise of the murderer's true identity makes it my favorite of the Season 1 episodes.
-
But the season finale runs it a close second. I get really emotional when Brenda bids a semi-goodbye to the squad when her future there remains unclear. And the emotion bubbles to the surface again when she takes their resignations and individually acknowledges each one of them near the end.
Also love her on the phone with her parents when her father wants to come punch someone for giving his daughter trouble. Seeing Barry Corbin playing the part now gives that scene even more meaning when one imagines him on the other end of the phone talking to her.

LA TIMES (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-weather2sep02,0,566834.story?coll=la-home-center)
Heat wave settles in for long weekend
About 5,700 residents citywide were without power this afternoon as the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power labored to keep up with demand on Day Five of this year's longest heat wave.
The hot weather is expected to last throughout the Labor Day weekend.
In Eagle Rock, 2,600 residents lost power at 8:30 p.m. Friday, and were still without power as of 1:30 p.m., said DWP spokesman Joe Romallo. He said they hope to have power fully restored to everyone by midafternoon. Forty-one crews were working on the outages, some working throughout the night, Romallo said.
About 125 customers in Sherman Oaks and many others scattered throughout Los Angeles were also without power this afternoon.
"We understand it's a tremendous inconvenience for folks," he said The crews are "out there. They've got the equipment, and they're working as fast as they can."
Temperatures are expected to continue in the triple digits throughout much of Southern California today. Downtown Los Angeles is expected to reach 91; Pasadena, 107; the Coachella Valley, 110; Anaheim, 95; and Burbank and Riverside, 108. Nighttime lows are expected to be in the upper 60s along the coast and about 70 inland.
"As the temperatures remain high at night it puts a lot more strain on the system," Romallo said. "And you don't have a chance to cool down the equipment. It's the equivalent of running a car at 100 mph for 24 hours."

In more amusing news, Roller Derby, the NYMF show with a$100,000 budget (per Equity rules, shows are not allowed to spend more than 15K on the physical production - yeah, right) has changed theaters for what I think is the third time. I think they were originally in the Julia Miles, then ours, then St. Clemons, now the Alley. Apparently St. Clemons wasn't big enough as they have to roller skate. Earth to Roller Derby: THIS IS A NYMF SHOW - if your show can't fit the constraints, then don't do the show, it's that simple. People with endless money - I gotta tell you. We've had to figure out creative ways to get around all the constraints and so have other shows (some of whom hire big crews to load their sets onto trucks to store them between shows) - NYMF really started out as a showcase for new musicals and it really has turned into something else, thanks to those productions who abuse the Equity rules and flaunt their money like cabbage rolls.

BK - Indeed, ROLLER DERBY is now at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, and they seem to be the only NYMF 2007 show at that venue.
Scenario - the ultra-backed Roller Derby can't make their show fit in any of the NYMF theaters - they bellyache until NYMF allows them to pay for a venue that will house their show, hence alleviating the need to store their set, hence allowing them a completely unfair advantage over every single other NYMF show, in terms of budget, set design, lighting design, band placement, sound, and just about everything else. Since they're the only show in that venue, shall we hazard a guess whether they'll have to tech and open on the same day? Shall we hazard a bloody guess? Will they now have a week to tech? Does Equity know what's going on? Will someone inform Equity of what's going on? Should this show be allowed to get away with this? Stay tuned.

IMHO Brendan Fraser is one of the few current actors who is truly loved by the camera. He lights up any film - no matter how slight the material.
("Gods And Monsters" is one of the Great films of the last decade - I don't consider that as slight)
-
I did not bother with "The Scorpian King"
I hope for your sake he takes no offense!

I'm trying to find a recipe for the perfect almond macaroon. After finding several recipes on line I decided to look for one from Andersen's bakery. A google search found the following:
Happy Birthday DM Carmelita of DR Jose.
Jose, I'm eating almond macaroons from Andersen's bakery in Santa Barbara..http://andersenssantabarbara.com/ :D :D :D
I'm chuckling over the birthday wishes & imagining the expression on someone who might come across this post by accident.
Alas, I did not find a recipe from the bakery.

He almost rescued Encino Man - and that was slight!

I agree on both accounts. I'm still shocked that a well know reviewer said Fraser wasn't sexy, or good looking enough for the role. EXCUSE ME! ::)

This Jason O'Mara?
-
I love coincidences!
There is tomovoz diary on the NET (in Japanese) - with a reference to Bossa Nova!
Thanks DR Jane. I just googled . LOL
-
DR Laura, are these all favorite films you have on DVD? What is in your collection, or just name a few.
We are going to watch VENUS now.
'night.

I presume that like Elmore, you keep your cheap porn on VHS tapes.

DR edisaurus - IKEA will take back furniture that's already been assembled.
They did! We went there first to see what they would say, and described the situation. They said bring it back as is, half assembled, there was no problem whatsoever.
We were quite relieved!
-
PAGE FIVE IKEA DANCE!!!!
LOL!
It was fun putting most of that cabinet together!
Although there were so many pieces, I was starting to get IKEA-itis!

Some places take old LPs for credit?? I thought only thrift stores took them--and then, NOT for credit.
I am quite pleased. I don't have the heart to throw them away. I would rather give them to someone else to do with them what they will...kind of like leaving kitties on someone's doorstep!
The store credit is an unexpected bonus---just have to remind myself not to buy more LPs!
-
DR edisaurus - I really have to Congratulate you on your on-going move, and all the work you've been putting into it. (Meanwhile, my boxes upon boxes continue to sit in my room gathering dust.) And it's good to know things worked out with Comcast too.
Thank you, DR Jose! Greg and I were talking about you tonight as we drove through the neighborhood where we had dinner when you were here. We went to that BBQ place I told you about that was near your hotel, but it was rather disappointing so I'm glad you didn't make it there. There is much better to be had elsewhere in town, although the mustard greens were the best I've ever had in my life!
Greg also things you should have some sort of "Ask Jose" service...a database where people could search NY for the best of a certain dish---pozole, or soup dumplings or gelato...or else have NY divided up in zones and you could see the best stuff nearby.
I would subscribe!

I'm sure once we move, my boxes of stuff will do the same, at least for a little while!
And Comcast, well, I hope they will really come through. We'll see!

We're STILL on page ten?
-
I will singlehandedly take us to page eleven.
-
I'm tired. Perhaps I'll post the notes very soon.
-
But not before page eleven.
-
I shall now be on my way to Academy used CDs, then a few of us are going to try a "new" (to me) Thai place called Pam Real Thai. Hope it's as good as the other jernt in the Village.
Where is Academy? (Like I NEED more CD's!)
-
I wonder if Edisaurus is busy cutting new promos for TNT
I don't do L&O promos at the moment. They are a different department: acquired series---and are usually done in house.
The Original Series is where it's at. The producers can work out of house so they work with me at a place close to the new house where we are spoiled by the staff who make a Starbucks run every afternoon. A non-fat triple grande latte always gets me through the rest of the day.
-
I will singlehandedly take us to page eleven.
We sometimes reach page eleven singdaw-handely. ;)
When he's not e & t of course!
-
Academy is just west of Fifth on 18th St.
-
I feel eleven comin' on.

Good Evening!
Back from my double-day of A Chorus Line, and I'm happy to report that things were much better today for all, and I felt relaxed (again). -Well, there are still a few places that I really have be on guard, but, otherwise, I had a relatively mistake-free day. -And the one finger-slip, literally, that I did have during the matinee was kind of funny. So, I have one more tomorrow, and then I was asked if I could go ahead and cover Tuesday night too, so... -I just need to remember that the Tuesday shows are now at 7:00.
-
I presume that like Elmore, you keep your cheap porn on VHS tapes.

VHS tapes, yes!
But also "HIV tested" tapes!
-
I feel eleven comin' on.
I feel a song comin' on, and I am not Judy! ;)
-
DR edisaurus - Glad to hear you had a good trip to IKEA.
*I actually LOVE putting together all that furniture. The more small parts the better, I say. I don't why I like the puzzle of it all, but I do. And I usually like doing it all by myself, rather than have someone help me. However, I've found I can only take IKEA either in a very quick, small "dose", or a nice leisurely, planned ahead visit - with breakfast and/or lunch as part of the deal. Otherwise, all those displays and shelves of merchandise can become quite overwhelming.
-
Good to see DR François.
-
DR Jane - DR Jason and I saw "Becoming Jane" yesterday. Quite a nice movie. Sort of leisurely paced, and maybe a few minutes too long for some people, but we both liked it. And there are some stunning scenic views of the English and Irish countryside and seashore.
-
Good to see DR François.
Thanks for noticing me
Eeyore!
-
Comment ça va, DR François?
-
Will we never get to page nine?
I guess so.
-
DR Jane - As for the macaroons... Gourmet had one a couple years back. A very simple recipe - just the ground almonds, sugar and egg whites and some flour (or maybe not even flour). If you go to epicurious.com, you should be able to do a search for the recipe.
-
And I found THE PRESTIGE the more interesting and ambitious of the two pictures.
So there you are.
-
François, I watched some of HALF A SIXPENCE last night because of you!
I must say that the director did a really nice job interacting with the set, especially in the confining ECONOMY number. I hadn't seen this since I was in HS and didn't remember that the choreography is so much fun!
-
I liked THE PRESTIGE because I am a fan of Tesla as well as the two feautred actors. But I also like Edward Norton so I plan on checking out THE ILLUSIONIST when I have a chance.
-
We're STILL on page ten?
Not for long.
-
OK, now that I'm home I'd better get some work done here!
-
François, I watched some of HALF A SIXPENCE last night because of you!
I know; I feel guilty while we should all blame DR Jose, of course!! ;)
-
I spent all evening with two films of Jim Jarmusch.
I began tonight with his award-winning STRANGER THAN PARADISE. It is kind of strange, but quirky and funny and rather sad sometimes.
Looks like it did in the theater - very grainy and raw.
-
I liked THE PRESTIGE because I am a fan of Tesla as well as the two feautred actors.
I HATE when actors are "feautred"! And it hurts too! ;)
-
Also on the second disc in this set was Jarmusch's first feature film PERMANENT VACATION which I had never seen before. Much less fun and a little tedious, it also features a rather aimless (and for me kind of uninteresting) main character who wanders around New York and encounters a wild assortment of people. There's Frankie Faison in what must have been one of his first roles.
-
I also liked The Illutionist and wonder why so many critics (and moviegoers) turned their back to it!
Oh, yeah! Not enough action!
I hardly recognized the lady from The Avengers!
-
Also on the second disc in the set was a 1984 German TV program detailing Jarmusch's two feature films and interviews with the major actors in each.
-
bk - I really like Pam Real Thai. However... Did you go to the original location on 49th? Or the new, slickly decor'd one on 47th? The homey original is my favorite Thai place in the city. The new location is a much bigger space, but a lot people I know have said that the heat and seasonings seemed to be turned down for "American palates". -However, you can ask for the "Real Thai" treatment, and they will adjust things accordingly from what I understand. *I think the new location is trying to make it's money off it's bar sales rather than the food - just going by the way the room is set up.
*If you want a real treat, give Chili Thai a try on 9th Ave. It features Thai food with a Latin twist. And it all works rather well. They also have a bunch of tapas sized plates so that you can sample and share at your table. Those Duck Empanadas are killer!
-
The set ends with 14 minutes of silent movie footage shot by Jarmusch's brother Tom during the filming of STRANGER THAN PARADISE and the American and Japanese trailers for the film.
-
Comment ça va, DR François?
Oh, ça va, ça vient! Tout dépend d'où vient le vent! :)
-
So, tomorrow I will probably start on the THAT GIRL box set. I'd like to find time for something else, too, possibly a Blu-ray disc. Maybe THE UNTOUCHABLES which I recently bought.
