Well, you've read the notes, the notes were clear as a bell, clean as a whistle, and now it is time for you to post until the clear as a bell cows come whistling home.

In honor of your birthday, could you get your hubby to change his avatar and headshot to something that looks like his far-more-handsome in-person self?

Thanks to Jane, Ginny and MBarnum (Mike) for the natal greetings.

DR ArnoldMBrockman, sorry I didn't see your question before now.  The most "special" thing I did today was stay cool.  Although TCB joked about the cool northwest, the mid-California weather was a bit on the non-breezy warm side.  My condo heats up from about 4 p.m. to sunset with direct exposure to the setting sun.  There is no cross-breeze.  So, if the marine layer (fog) doesn't move in, along with Bay breezes, to cool things off, I swelter even though the temperature outside is in the low 60s or upper 50s.

So....fans and AC running and kicking back, intermingled with a small cookout on my balcony in the early evening, were all the "special" I could muster.

Re:  Katie Couric and work done.

Possibly, Mr. BK, poss-ib-lee!

She still looks Couricky to me....but she's got the taint of CBS upon her...that umpteen-million-dollar contract came with new groomers and image consultants.

Tweren't a thing wrong with the old Katie, let me say it.

But she totally looks different/out-of-place/wrong on the CBS Evening News.

Funny how those NBC Today folks seem to just wither away with moves to CBS.  Bryant Gumble sure went nowhere fast.  And Katie hasn't exactly vaulted CBS into contention for any prizes/audience shares with Evening News LIGHT!

What CBS needs is a new Walter Cronkite.

Hell!  What any of them could use is the integrity of a Walter Cronkite.

I'm gonna be perfectly frank
Would you like to know what kind of conversation goes on
While they're loafin' around that hall
They'll be tryin' out Bevo, tryin' out Cubebs
Tryin' out Tailor Mades like cigarette fiends
And braggin' all about how they're gonna
Cover up a tell-tale breath with Sen-Sen
One fine night they leave the pool hall
Headin' for the dance at the Arm'ry
Libertine men and scarlet women and ragtime
Shameless music that'll drag your son, your daughter
Into the arms of a jungle animal instinct massteria!
Friends, the idle brain is the devil's playground, trouble!

BK - As for John's Pizza...

The seating policy - Well, you either like it, or you don't.  So, if you choose not to dine there anymore, well, that's your choice.  -However, that policy is really only enforced during the lunch and dinner rushes.  -And I suspect that you would not be too pleased if someone was seated before you - someone who was waiting for a friend to show up - and who very well might still be waiting for the rest of their party to show up by the time you were seated.  Or even finished your meal.  I've seen that happen.  To me.  It's not a matter of making you feel rushed, it's a matter of the keeping the tables turned, and also insuring that people aren't "squatting".  -And if someone in your party is running late, then it's that someone who is holding you up.  Not the restaurant.

As for the pizza.... Yes, it's the thin-crust kind.  Is THE BEST pizza in NYC?  No.  But it's very good.  -The pizza down at the John's on Bleecker is also thin-crust, but I think it actually tastes better down there too.  There's always a nice hint of char to their crusts down there.

However, if you want more substantial crust, I suggest you try Dean's Pizza up on 85th Street.  DR elmore and I have commented about the place before.  They do make the traditional thin-crust pie, but they also make "Grandma's Square Pie".  It's not quite that inch-thick Sicilian style, but it's based on that model.  The dough is allowed to rise a bit, and I'd say it's about 1/4-inch think.  It has a great initial crunch, and then there's a nice soft layer of "bread".  A very good pie.

Otherwise, maybe you're hankering for the "New York Style" that's sold by the various Ray's Pizzas dotting NYC.  A decent slice.
Title: Re:KATIE, WE HARDLY KNEW YE
Post by: JoseSPiano on September 03, 2007, 12:22:32 AM
BK and DR elmore - As for the "non-invite" to tonight's dinner and music, well...  Yes, you can blame me.  It all sort of came together as I was leaving for my matinee.

I had planned a few weeks ago to see Eldar, but I actually didn't make the reservations until this morning.  -I was actually almost thinking of not going tonight, but, boy, am I glad I'm not regretting that possible decision.

As for the dinner... Well... I had a few "missions" to accomplish after the show - and, well, before the show too.  Once I started getting things organized, I went ahead and called DR Cason to see what he was up to, and since his plans were not finalized per se, I asked him if he would help me out with my "missions".  So, we started there.

My reservations for Eldar were only for two people.   -Oh, and seeing Eldar was a belated birthday present to myself.  I was hoping that DR Jason could come with me tonight, but since we had to be in line by 9:30 - first-come, first-served seating - I went ahead and asked if DR Cason would like to come along.  Then after my "missions" were accomplished, we rang up BJ to see if he would like to join us for dinner.  And that's how we ended up a John's Pizza.  Too.  ;)

*When were you there, BK?  I'm guessing were there around 6:45-7:00?  Is it possible that we dined in the same room, but not necessarily together?

In any case... That's my "excuse", so to speak.
Title: Re:KATIE, WE HARDLY KNEW YE
Post by: JoseSPiano on September 03, 2007, 12:27:02 AM
And as for those "missions" - Well... I'm putting together a birthday present for a friend of mine back in Richmond.  I noticed I still had a bunch of Opening Night Playbills from various shows that have opened this past season.  So...  I took one to A Chorus Line...  Then I waited outside the stagedoor of Curtains - with DRs Jason and Cason... And, as luck would have it, Rupert Holmes was there today, so I was able to get his autograph too.  I tried to get over to Mary Poppins too, but the gates were already packed up by the time we got over to 41st Street.  They really must have gotten out of there fast today.

*Oh, and since I had already collected some autographs previously, coincidentally - and quite serendipitously - the Playbills I'm gathering together have all been signed by Tony nominees and/or winners.  :)

DR Jane - Toast half of the almonds you're using.  Yes, toasting helps bring out the almond essence, but I feel that it affects the final product too since the toasting also ends up affecting the natural oil in the almonds.  -At least when it comes to making macaroons.

Post by: JoseSPiano on September 03, 2007, 01:28:39 AM
So... Back to Eldar at The Blue Note earlier tonight.

Quite simply put... WOW!

As impressive as his playing and musicality is on disc, in person it is even moreso.  Not only was I continually blown away at the velocity of his fingers, but I was also bowled over by the various colorings he worked out that Steinway.  His rendition of "Besame Mucho" sounded like it was being played on a "cushion piano" - for lack of a better word for how to describe that sound.

He opened with "I Remember When" which also opens his latest CD, "re-imagination".  He did have a synth sitting on top of the piano, as well as Rhodes unit hooked into a processor to his left, and he duplicated many of the colors and morphs of sound that are on the disc.  Then came a totally re-worked and practically deconstructed version of "Sofly As In A Morning Sunrise".  Again, a total WOW!  Once the tune came into the focus after the initial improvisation, it all just fell into place.  And, man, did it swing too!  I particularly enjoyed how he treated the final cadence of the melody, making that the "home hook" for his rendition.  The rest of set included a few more tunes from "re-imagination" as well as his previous CDs.

Now as for those hands... Vladimir Ashkenazy was praised for his very prodigious right-hand technique.  -As was/is Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum(!).  Clean, lightning fast playing.  Never a note out of place.  There were times tonight when I thought Eldar was playing with two right hands.  There was some astonishing passage work in octaves between the two hands.  Sometimes that took place on the Steinway.  Sometimes his right hand was on the synth and his left was on the piano - or vice versa.  Or his left hand was on the Rhodes to the left him while his right hand was on the piano.  And still he managed some hard-to-believe unison playing.  -And there was also one continuous trill that I swear lasted at least a minute long - if not longer - all the while playing melody and accents with his left - or right hand - with some interjections from the non-trilling fingers at the same time!

And I swear there were times when I thought I was finally hearing that fabled "Chopin rubato".  Chopin was stated to have been able to playing an accompaniment figure in his left hand in a steady tempo, while "allowing" his right hand to play the melody freely above it.  -Like a singer back-phrasing over a steady accompaniment of chords.  There has always been a debate whether this is physically-mentally possible, and tonight I think I heard that it is.

What I found quite surprising was his stage manor - well, his stage voice.  Not a trace of Russian in it.  Very relaxed, very cool.  And very mature for a 20-year old!  -Then I remembered he has been in the States since he was nine.

Oh, and I have to mention the contributions and collaborations of his bass player, Earl Travis, and drummer, Terreon Gully.  They were truly Eldar's "band mates" up on that stage.  -And their featured solos were also quite impressive.

After the set, DR Cason and I headed upstairs.  Well, that's where the bathrooms were, but I also wanted to see about getting an autograph.  Or at least seeing and shaking those hands.  Luckily, Eldar happened to come out of his dressing room, and he chatted with us for a bit.  Young and modest.  (And cute.)  And I did get my CD signed.  -And, thankfully, the one bit of Russian I do remember happened to apply as we were leaving: Spokoinoi Nochi, Good Night.

bk - As for your plans for Wednesday night...  Milla's appearance will be at the B&N up by Lincoln Center.  The Metropolitan Room is down in Chelsea, on 22nd between 5th and 6th.

The closest subway stop to the Metropolitan Room is the F at 23rd (you'd have to transfer from a D or V at 42nd or 34th).  The B&N is right on the 1 Train, so...  Plan your transfers accordingly.  Or just take a taxi down to Chelsea.

The Metropolitan Room (http://metropolitanroom.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)

*I like the space.  It used to be a comedy club, but they've transformed into a nice intimate cabaret room.  -And they serve pies and cakes from The Little Pie Shop too!  :)

Oh, I might as finish the story as it were...

After heading up to Union Square to check out the Virgin Megastore there, and then finding that it closes at midnight - unlike it's Times Square counterpart which closes at 1:00am - we hopped on the N Train back up to 42nd Street.  Once at 44th and Broadway, Cason headed back to his digs, and I just ended up walking up until I hit 79th Street - a.k.a. H&H Bagels.

I had wanted to pick up some sort of pastry for breakfast this morning since my roommate's brother and his wife are visiting this weekend.  I stopped into some of the bakeries along the way - Hot & Crusty, EuroPan, The Bread Factory, even Starbucks - but no one had anything that looked particularly fresh (at 1:00 in the morning).  So, since H&H bakes around the clock and is open 24 hours (I think), I stopped into there for a dozen assorted bagels and a tub of cream cheese.  And since I got a dozen I got a 13th for free - an Everything bagel, which I just finished consuming and enjoying a few minutes ago.  -And it really was still fresh-from-the-oven warm.  Mmmmmm.

I'm up and shaved and will shower in a few moments.

I'm glad Cason got to have pizza after all.  I was actually there pre- prime dinner hour, which is why the seating policy annoyed me so much - I got there about ten to five and most of the tables were sitting there empty.  I had the Margherita, half with pepperoni, half with mushrooms.

I went to amazon and read about Eldar - mostly everyone likes him.

The "whole party" thing is common here in Atlanta, too, so I'm surprised that it isn't the norm in NY. I understand the thought behind it and it makes sense to me when there are a lot of people waiting. If there was no one waiting and a lot of empty tables, I would be annoyed if they didn't seat me. I have been seated at John's at non-busy times when I have been waiting for someone.

We are getting new anchors at WRTV next week....this is the former WFBM tv, at one time the station of Ms Frances Farmer.

During her time - more than 40 years ago....her program would end about 6 p.m. followed by the local news of 30 minutes and then Huntley-Brinkley (ironic since she dated Chet Huntley when they were in college) - and WFBM was the number one local news for decades....

Now they are in last place....and have been for a long time.  They have local news from 5 p.m until 7 p.m.  And there ain't that much news in Indiana.

AND with the new anchors coming on, they are going to have a 7 p.m. local newscast as well.....

We used to get news weather and sports in 30 minutes....

Good morning, all!  I slept late, and then the attorney for my dad's estate called with questions concerning the Macbeths, other debts owed to the estate, and an offer on my dad's property.  I have some Toyland notes to look over today, and I'm still debating a trek to the office or not.  Whether I go or not, I've been asked to burn a couple of CDs for Ron Raines, and I have that to do.

Mr Rodney Gilfry finally landed an apartment on Friday, and Carin hopes to move in tomorrow.  I suspect that today they will be shopping for essential furniture.  If the ove happens tomorrow, I hope to spend part of the day helping them.

I, too, can vouch for the works of Alison Weir; I got hooked when I read her THE PRINCES IN THE TOWER regarding the murders of Richard III's nephews - possibly by Uncle Richie himself.

Perhaps he went to Hampton Court.

DR MattH - For some unknown reason, the one episode of "That Girl" that sticks in my head is the one where she goes to the automat, but since she's short on money, she improvises a bowl of tomato soup with  cup of hot water and some ketchup.  :)

Sounds like it would have been from one of the two earlier seasons. Haven't run across that one yet (though I have almost half of the episodes still to go).

Of course, I watched THAT GIRL during my high school and college years, but most of the episodes I'm watching now don't ring much of a bell. I did remember the New Year's episode where a quiet evening for the two of them became an impromptu party where she got so desperate to have appetizer that she was putting peanut butter on cornflakes and calling them "crispettes."

The episode of THAT GIRL I remember the most concerns Donald's pants that Ann Marie picked up from the dry cleaners for him.  She hung them in her closet, her mother saw them, and assumed Don and Ann were living together.

Hilarity ensues.

At long last good morning!

I got a terrific birthday present - a cool morning (60), so naturaly I threw open the doors and windows and aired out the house. Within an hour, the temperature in the house had dropped four degrees. I'm sitting right now in front of an open window enjoying the first long morning of fresh air for well over a month. Sheer heaven on earht. I will be sorry to have to close everything back up early this afternoon.

For my birthday, I will watch a mystery or musical (my two favorite genres) of some kind, but I'm not sure which one I'll pick.

And one more final word about Eldar... For now...

Before his set started, I commented to DR Cason - and even to some others I had talked to before - that going to hear him live was either going to truly inspire me or extremely depress me.  -Heck, a friend of mine I gave the CD to said he had questioned what he had been doing with his talent for the past twenty years - and he's a great pianist too - after his initial listen.  Yes, he sort of meant that in jest, but I had the same "kernel" of a reaction.

Well, last night, I was simply awed.  That level of talent and musicality and musical invention is something you don't question.  You just experience it.  And I never got the impression that he was showing off with some of the faster and flashier runs.  That was simply what he's able to do and does.  Yes, there were moments where I found myself analyzing what he was doing - the succession of off-beats, the way he managed to make an odd-meter swing in a fast tempo, the interpolation of other tunes in his improvs, having one "feel" in his right hand and another "feel" in his left at the same time (that's just the schooled musician in me) - but then I just stopped thinking and Listened.  That's what I found most refreshing about last night.  It was just nice to sit back and listen and not be critical about it.  As well as not wanting to be critical about it.

Even after the concert, Cason and I really couldn't put into words what we had just heard and experienced.  It was what it was.  And that was a good thing.  A very good thing.  -And even during our brief chat with him, all we could really say was that we enjoyed ourselves, and thought he did an awesome job.  You can't really criticize - good or bad - what he did.  At least we couldn't.

TOD:

Well, I don't really have any favorite news reporters or anchors, but I do have a true story. When I was in high school my friend Hedy and I went down to Newport Beach during Easter Week. It was quite the thing to do, though I didn't do many of those sorts of things. (I was either at the theatre or working to make moolah.) Hedy and I were at a friend's house, watching an old movie on TV one evening. There were four of us, and one or two people were drinking a beer. Pretty quiet. Someone came to the door, saying he was Bill Stout of CBS News and he wanted to film an Easter Week party. We explained that there was no party here--that was pretty obvious--and suggested another location. But he wanted to film OUR party. He gave one of the guys some cash to buy some beer, someone said OK, we'll give you a party. So Hedy and I dug through the trash--trash collection was the next day, so we had plenty to choose from--and filled dark-colored bottles with water. Someone else phoned some friends and told them to come over pronto, put on some music, and soon we had our "party".

I thought it was all a laugh, because it was so fake, but Hedy's aunt saw us on the 6 o'clock news and wasn't pleased. I didn't get into trouble, but it was a rude awakening to learn that someone so well-respected as this news anchor would do such a thing. And his viewers believed it! I never expected it to actually go on the air!

I witnessed a second incident while in college at UCLA, where a story was reported on air--a riot--which I knew could not have happened at the time and place reported because I was there then and there was nothing!  Needless to say, these two incidents stayed with me and colored my thinking about news reporting. I was quite accustomed to the fakery that takes place on movie sets--I never expected it on the news!

DR JRand57 - It took me a while to figure out how to save my Simpson-self in the proper format, but then, after a few tries, I believe I figured it out.

After clicking "Download", change the name of the file that is provided for your Simpson-self to something you like/can remember, and change the file extension to .jpg.  That did the trick for me.

Just a few amazing quotes from the amazing PABLO PICASSO=

"I am always doing that which I can not do,in order that I may learn how to do it"

"Computers are useless. They only give you answers"

"When they tell me I'm too old to do something,I attempt it immediately"

" I do not seek. I find"

"My Mother said to me 'If you become a Soldier, you'll be a General. If you become a Monk you'll end up as The Pope.'
Instead,I became a Painter and wound up as PICASSO"

DR Jane - Toast half of the almonds you're using.  Yes, toasting helps bring out the almond essence, but I feel that it affects the final product too since the toasting also ends up affecting the natural oil in the almonds.  -At least when it comes to making macaroons.

I was thinking about that.  Have you made almond macaroons & done the half & half?  I might test half a recipe with untoasted & then compare it to half toasted.  Some recipes call for vanilla & some with vanilla & almond flavoring.  I found this wonderful almond flavoring so I think I will use both.

The signed Playbills sounds like a very thought out & special gift for your friend.

I read BK's notes, but I haven't caught up with many posts. :-\ I'm off to my sister's house to drill air holes in her (brand new) DVD/VHS/TV shelves because her brand new 46 inch flatscreen HD TV just barely fits in the shelf.  There's not enough air circulation so we have to drill holes so that the TV doesn't overheat.  Hope it works! ;D

Lovely photographs once again, DR DearReaderLaura!

I heard the most distressing thing today.  Is it true that the typical lifespan of a butterfly is only a few days?  It doesn't jibe with what I've heard about the migratory patterns of butterflies...

Not exactly. The entire lifespan of many species is a couple of months -- that includes egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly. So the pretty flying things are, sadly, near the end of their lifespan. I think most of them live a couple of weeks as adults.

The monarch, however, usually has a similar lifespan -- they use their energy procreating. Then at the end of the "season," that generation ceases using energy on procreation and instead uses their energy migrating -- some to Mexico and some to California.

And that is all I know about butterflies.

mary had a tiny lamb
its wool was pallid as snow
and any spot that mary did walk
this lamb would always go
this lamb did follow mary to school
although against a law
how girls and boys did laugh and play

The paragraph was written entirely without the letter "e".

I don't know the name of it, but years ago, there was a French novel that was written entirely without the letter "e."  It took several years (I think) to translate it into English because the translator also didn't use any words that had the letter "e" in it.

Well, I don't really have any favorite news reporters or anchors, but I do have a true story. When I was in high school my friend Hedy and I went down to Newport Beach during Easter Week. It was quite the thing to do, though I didn't do many of those sorts of things. (I was either at the theatre or working to make moolah.) Hedy and I were at a friend's house, watching an old movie on TV one evening............

I was quite a fan of Peter Jennings.  He went through his pompous period, but overall I thought he was an excellent journalist, which I think is probably the highest compliment you can give a TV anchor.

My other choices would have to be Huntley & Brinkley but, most of all, Frank Reynolds.  I know I am dating myself, but hey I do that quite often.

DUMB POLITICAL STUNT OF THE MONTH:

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,295555,00.html)

Quote
JOHN EDWARDS' UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PLAN WOULD MAKE REGULAR CHECKUPS MANDATORY

TIPTON, Iowa - —  Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem."

The government focing you to go to a docter and get nekid?

Women jailed for failing to get a mammogram?

This is a stance who's only consequence will be a long list of "Anybody But Edwards" voters.

Sign me up!

Though I had planned to temper the episodes with something else, I went ahead and spent all afternoon watching THAT GIRL. Among the episodes I watched were two of my favorites: the one where Ann gets trapped in a folding bed and the one that featured three members of her family: her sister Terre, her brother Tony, and her father who made a brief cameo at the end of the episode.

Listened to a couple more commentaries, and they were just as dull and near-silent as the one on the second disc. If she and Bill Persky want to watch the episodes, watch them on THEIR time and then spend OUR time commenting on the making of the episode. In one of the commentaries, she couldn't remember who was playing the man offering her a job - it was mcLean Stevenson.

I have a feeling DW Joy is staying away from the computer today, but will surely enjoy your birthday wishes in the near future.

What I want to know is: Who told BK John’s was the best pizza?  I’ve heard nobody say this since around 1979, when it appeared it Woody Allen’s Manhattan, and it was arguable (and argued) then.  We like V & T’s, an old-fashioned place with unfriendly waiters in the same building where Gershwin wrote Rhapsody In Blue.

This post from BK got me thinking about tourist traps:
Quote
As to that restaurant practice, while I used to run into it occasionally, I haven't for years, and I still think it's stupid.  I'm coming to dine and my party will follow shortly, so what's the difference whether they seat me?  It makes no sense to me on any level.  So, someone who gets there AFTER me gets seated BEFORE me just because they arrive together and one of them isn't off parking or something?  Uh uh.  The result?  John's Pizza can do without my business, and let me tell you, they will find out that I'm not the only one who won't put up with it a second time.  I've watched it happen and suddenly, six months later, the restaurant is magically seating people when they arrive, whether their party is complete or not.

John’s can do whatever it wants, without worrying about any repeat business, as long as tourists continue to believe it’s the must-have New York pizza experience.  They can mistreat customers, even serve a bad-tasting pie; it doesn’t matter.  The tourist, often, isn’t likely to return because there’s no return trip to New York for a long time, after which said mistreatment and bad pie is forgotten.

The Broadway theatre, being the draw it is, necessarily is just about the worst neighborhood for restaurants.  With so many people, in New York just for vacation, looking to eat as near to Wicked or Phantom as possible, there’s a lot of restaurants who take their money with no particular motivation to do a good job.  The further you get from the theatres, the better the eatery tends to be.

Off to birthday dinner at Carne now!

Bk - I just looked at the BRAIN CD booklet again, notably the inside-the-back-cover shot with Cason and the boys from the rear and bending over a bit - that's certainly a money shot for NYMF target audiences, as much as the I SEE LONDON show photo.  Those boys got legs!  And if the L.A. boys are a little skinny compared to the NYC boys, you couldn't tell from that photo.  This might be useful for the interim until you get shots done of the NYC boys.

My couple of hours at Toyland stretched into seven!  Although I missed a day of THE CLOSER marathon, I had a loverly time: a bit of work on the two Herbert shows and a bit of work on "The Brain"; I finished the new "All About Men," but I missed stopping by rehearsal.

Now I'm back, and I have a bit more reading tonight on critical notes to BABES IN TOYLAND before a Wednesday meeting to finish up (I hope!) editorial guidelines.  My eyballs hurt at the moment so I believe I will lie down for a bit and give them a rest.

And in the "blame Jose" department; the guests at last night's dinner party, which I attended, were all encouraged to rush out and buy Eldar cds.  Seven out of ten people wrote down the details, while one called me later to get those same details.
I spent a great deal of time at Sunday's dinner party singing the songs of the new cabaret, which I think I'm calling "An Alchemy in Time."
Most requested for encores were Johnny Mercer's "I Fought Every Step of the Way," David Friedman's "Trust the Wind" and Alan Menken's "Little Patch of Heaven."

Last night, I also watched a dvd of a film which I hadn't seen:  David Fincher's ALIEN3.  Not a great film by any means, though quite good to look at.  This afternoon I watched the supplemental material and found that it was a wonder this film got made at all, and all my sympathies went to poor Mr. Fincher, who as the third director was working without a script, under constant studio scrutiny, forced to work with already built sets and creatures, yet still produce a film intended for a specific opening date.

LOL-I hadn't read the article, just saw the headline for this.  I'm sure his heart is in the right place.

If you really want to debate this, ;) think about it.  He has a point.  If you are going to foot the bill for someone's health insurance, then you might want them to get checked & find major problems early on, and treat them while the expense to do so is relatively low instead of waiting.  Hmm...if that were economic they why don't the insurance companies already do that.  It seems I don't need anyone to debate this with, I can do it all by myself. ;D

I saw the documentary Broadway yesterday. i was disappointed with it. I was really looking forward to it and I wasn't that crazy about it. I think for me was the way it was edited.

However it was fun to see the NY critics together at a restaurant discussing the coming season. They came back to them every now and then. They were wrong what would be a hit, what would be a a bomb and who would win a Tony award. They also had an end of a season tally of what shows opened and closed. Also it wasn't until the end did I realize that there was wasn't a mention about The Boy From OZ. It wasn't until they announced the contenders for Best Musical that I realized that there wasn't a clip from the show.

Also why was Alan Cummings in it? He wasn't part of the Broadway season that year. (He was one of the producers maybe that's why.) But I did read somewhere that he was originally the narrtor but it was dropped.

Oh and one more thing.

BK was mentioned (sort of) They were talking about Stephen Schwartz (not glowingly) and one of the critics mentioned he was listening to the Stephen Schwartz Songbook CD which he really liked. It isn't the correct name of the cd, but of course I knew what he was talking about.

Today I skipped the big Labor Day picnic to paint the gazebo.   I got the outside done before it got too hot. At least the outside is done, so from a curb appeal point of view it looks good.  I still have to do the screens and the inside.

My neighbor came to look at my room and convinced me I should put up dry wall so it isn't so noisy in there.  SO...I'm looking for a carpenter/drywaller who wants to do a small job.  I'd like to get it done right away, but I have a feeling that it will be put on hold for awhile so I can save up some money.  At least the demo is done and if it's going to be awhile, I'll still do some patching and sealing of the walls and floor so that everything is prepped for the carpenter.

It was a change in format, but I don't blame them for trying something different. No need to make the show too formuliac. I've noticed that this season, they've tried to get Brenda's confessions in places other than the inetrview rooms every week, too. I don't blame them for trying to keep things fresh.

And lots of other procedurals have done this same tack with a courtroom testimony with flashbacks to the investigation. CSI has done it a couple of times as has BONES.

I watched the last two episodes of THAT GIRL - Season 3 to begin my evening. One contained the last of four commentaries in the set, and it was just as frustrating and uninformative as the other three. The episode in question was the one where a game of monopoly turned into World War III. Marlo and Bill laughed a lot during the episode, but they sure didn't talk much about making it.

Then, I began the first of four GREY'S ANATOMY, Season 3 episodes that I watched (and lauighed and cried through) this evening. Though I think the show developed problems in plotting later on during the season, the early episodes were certainly on par with the first two magnificent seasons.
