Well, you've read the notes, there wasn't a title in sight, and now it is time for you to post until the titled cows come home - Sir Cow, the Duke of Cow and all the rest of them.

OK.  Me tired.  I don't have rehearsal until 1:00 tomorrow, but I want to get a good two hours of practicing in.  The score is still not sitting comfortably in my fingers.  And since it looks like I will actually be covering the rehearsals as soon as this Thursday and Friday now - Surprise! - well...

I was curious about the phrase "jump the shark," and in searching the Internet found this definition:

“Jump the shark” refers to the precise moment at which a TV program loses momentum or begins the process of losing the element that made the show popular.

Good morning, all!  Last night I had a peculiar dream about my mother who died in 1994, literally weeks before recording Sally Mayes' Comden & Green album; I remember scoring in the hospital cafeteria the numbers I did for "Christmas on Broadway" and Fed Exing them to BK; I scored Sally's "Fireworks" after the funeral, and I think it's my favorite chart on the album.

But I digress: all I recall now of the dream is that my cousin Sue Ellen and I were raking a beach to make it easier for my mother to walk and, while Sue and I appeared to be in our late teens, my mother in her bathing suit looked as she did around 1954 or so: she was around 32 then, slim, very pretty, and not at all crazy, as she later became.

DR singdaw, I thought MONK jumped the shark at least a year ago when I thought Monk's character lost all connection with the realities of the character; this season there have been a couple of episodes I did enjoy, but I feel the charm and quirkiness of the concept have been lost for me.  DR Matt H is much more patient than I with Mr Shalhoub's lack of concern in maintaining the character's reality, and that's horseracing.

This morning, a loooooong meeting in Toyland about various and sundry, then a stop at "The Brain" to drop off what are hopefully the final adjustments so I can begin the new band parts. After that, Milla's appearance at B&N.

I don't know if it was mentioned here, but the news of the death of Miyoshi Umeki on August 28 or 29th has just been reported.

MIYOSHI UMEKI Died Aug. 29, 2007

Oscar-winning actress Miyoshi Umeki died at age 78. Ms. Umeki was the first Asian actress to win an Oscar. She won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar and was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in the 1957 film "Sayonara." She played a Japanese woman who falls in love with an American soldier. Red Buttons played her lover and won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work. Miyoshi Umeki was a popular singer in Japan before she came to the US. She was nominated for a Tony Award for the play "Flower Drum Song." She reprised her role in the 1961 film version. Ms. Umeki received her second Golden Globe nomination for that film. TV audiences remember Ms. Umeki for her role as Mrs. Livingston in the series "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." She received her third and final Golden Globe nomination for her work on that show. Her other film credits include "The Horizontal Lieutenant," "Cry For Happy" and "A Girl Named Tamiko." In addition to her regular role on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," Ms. Umeki made guest appearances on such TV series as "Burke's Law," "Mr. Ed," "The Donna Reed Show" and "Dr. Kildare." Ms. Umeki was the widow of TV director Randall Hood.

Ugh!  "All-nighters."  I pulled a few in college to finish papers, etc.  But I could barely carry it off then, and certainly not now that I'm older.

Even in college, I remember staying up all night to finish something or other.  I had a voice lesson early the next morning.  The professor heard me sing two notes and sent me home to bed.  He claimed he could hear it in my voice immediately [I hadn't initially told him] and said it wasn't worth teaching me in that condition!?!

If I'm not mistaken (and I seldom is), "jump the shark" originated with a HAPPY DAYS episode in which Fonzie jumped over a pool of sharks on a motorcycle.

Good morning!

Phones still working fine so I hope that little problem is behind me. Now, Time-Warner must come and fix the cable which I'm guessing the phone guy somehow disconnected yesterday when he was repairing the line. It's always something.

It didn't seem quite as cool to me this morning when I got up, but I turned on the attic fan anyway, and have cooled down the house this morning. (I was up an hour earlier than usual because I went to bed an hour earlier than usual. Typical)

My q for BK is who is this bizarre west coast dram person? On another site I guessed Gertrude Slysinski(sp?), the real name of a character so memorably played by Miss Penny Fuller(on disc; I never got to see the show)-to backtrack I don't have a favorite newscaster. I spent a good portion of yesterday thoroughly enjoying revisiting GREY'S ANATOMY's third season. The storylines didn't really start to go awry until Meredith had her brush with death in that three part arc.

The story itself was moving, and it was a pleasure to see Kyle Chandler and Jeffrey Dean Morgan again in their famous roles, but after that, the writers seemed to feel the need to muck up Derek and meredith's romance past the point of endurance, and they also introduced that absurd Izzie/George coupling that came out of nowhere.

In any case...  Yes, they are cute(!!!!).  And it's looking that my brother will be bringing his family up to NYC in a few weeks for a family weekend.  Since he's in the Coast Guard, he gets some sort of free housing somewhere around here.  -I was going to say Governor's Island, but that's no longer an active Coast Guard base.  In any case, it will be nice to show them around the City.

DR Elmore, I often get just as irritated with Tony Shalhoub's overreaching for effects in MONK. I really watch the show now for the mystery plots (when they're there; it's often a COLUMBO-style backwards mystery which for me aren't nearly as entertaining.)

But really, most comedy shows with eccentric characters have to push harder and harder as the shows run so that the characters can continue to amuse viewers. I think of how extreme all the characters became on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, GREEN ACRES, even FRIENDS by the end of the run compared to the way they were at the beginning. The character quirks always get exaggerated more and more for effect.

I just read about this today and am extremely happy (since i really really want to see this and will not be getting to NYC anytime soon).

I just wonder if there is any chance they will also carry this in Canada. Although i'm guessing not. We do not get MTV in canada.

If there is anybody who will be recording this and can make a copy. I would be really really greatful.

Btw, it's funny how happy reading this made me even though i don't get MTV. :)

What do you guys make of what is going on?

I am happy there will be a double surprise eviction tomorrow. And i'm really hoping the donatos get exactly what they deserve.

What are they thinking?

Dick's whole thing (and one of the only things i like about him) is that he doesn't lie and tells it like it is. But he's letting his liar daughter convince him that turning on their alliance is the way to go.

Eric even asked dani to tell him if jess was going so he could spend more time with her. And she totally lied to him!

I agree that jess is a threat to them. But not yet. If they evict jameka then only eric, jess and d & d compete for the hoh. They evict zach and are F4.

If they do what they are planning and evict jess. Then eric and jameka team up and they go after d & d big time. I suspect eric will win hoh tomorrow and put up dick and daughter. And one of them goes.

so how is this better for them?

I'm sick of daniele. I cannot believe zach is falling for her crap. I want her gone now.

I really hope that when dick offers jameka the deal to save her (before tomorrow's show) that she runs right to jess (after telling dick where to go).

I wonder if the DR will let it slip that jess is going. They sometimes like to stir the pot.

I am very, very, VERY grateful for Yahoo's spam filters on my PC.  However, over the past few days, the spam being "caught" by my Spam-guard plus filter seems to have tripled in volume.  When there were maybe 15-20 spams to delete two or three times a day,  I now find 45-78 spams in the "bulk" cache.  It's amazing and very disheartening.  I always have to review the subjects to make sure I don't lose something I might really want.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from my very brief, yet very fun Mary Poppins rehearsal. Today, I just sat back and listened and took notes while the conductor taught the two new Jane Bank's a couple of the number.  And we will have another hour of rehearsal tomorrow.  -And, tomorrow, the rehearsal is at 1:00.  -And then there's still a chance I may be playing the staging rehearsal tomorrow, but there's also a chance that stage management may just want to deal with staging tomorrow, and then add the music elements at another time.  We shall see.

After my rehearsal, I headed to the post office to mail a package to a friend of mine in Charlottesville, VA via Express Mail.  Well, after requesting the proper size box from the always ornery staff at the Times Square/Port Authority location, and then standing in a line that built up quite suddenly while I was filling out my forms...  "This is guaranteed for Friday."  -What?!?!  "Yes, this may get there tomorrow, but for Charlottesville, VA, it's automatically a 2-Day Delivery." -What?  The clerk - who really wasn't all that ornery - then went ahead and flipped her monitor around so that I could see the delivery options.  She even reentered all the delivery info since she was sort of surprised they could not guarantee it for tomorrow.  Well, long story short, I just headed over to FedEx and sent it that way.  And it will get there tomorrow.  And for only a dollar more than what it would have cost the USPS.

It wasn't necessarily a bad experience with the USPS, just a strange one.  I mean, I've overnighted stuff to Charlottesville from NYC via the USPS before, and it's never been listed at 2-Day.  Hmmm... ???

In other news... I just wandered around Times Square for a bit.  I stopped into The Palace to say Hi to DR Jason and some of the other merchandising folks.  -And, yes, they were sort of buzzing about the MTV broadcast of Legally Blonde.  Let's just say that the performance schedule at The Palace could get quite crazy come October.

Then since I thought lunch would be a good thing, I stopped into The Duke, one of those massive lunch counters/deli/hot food buffet deals.  The location on 52nd has a Korean food counter in the back, so I had Bim Bim Bap for lunch.  Quite good.

Then I headed back home via the C Train.  And now...

Now... I really want to nap.  I may head back in in a little bit, but since I need to do a few loads of laundry before I head down to Charlotte this weekend, well....  And, again, I really want a nap.

Alas, the handyman is here right now fixing the sink in my bathroom.  This morning, he "fixed" the slow drain - he pulled some big wad of what looked like pieces of fabric out of the drain pipe (looked sort of scraps of denim ???) - and now he's re-caulking the wall-mount, and adjusting the drain stopper.  -And, of course, he's also in the process of re-attaching the soap dish in the upstairs bathroom.

That's exactly what I though about the Izzie/George thing...totally out of nowhere and totally absurd! :P Talk about jumping the shark. ::)

DR Jane:  About that high pillow-top bed you fell in love with.  BUY IT!  You can always get a set of those steps for "older" animals that shouldn't be jumping up on things.  Those steps are just the ticket, unless you feel Sherlock would refuse to use them.

I have two sets of those stairs.  One to help both of them climb up on the bed; and the other one takes them to the top of the shelving unit where there favorite bed is located.  They have both been using and loving the stairs since the day i bought them.

DR Jennifer, I haven't checked up on the live feeds, but I still like Dick and Danielle, maybe even more than I used to. I thought the flirting with Janelle was pretty funny, not as funny as when Eric was immitating Dick, but it was funny.   I think getting Jess out is a good move for them. And if it takes lying, then it takes lying.  Jameka can't compete for HOH, so it would be Eric Danielle and Dick. I think that's a good decision.  Besides, it's close enough to the end of the game that people are going to turn on each other no matter what.

I think rehearsals begin today and he, Skip and Jose are holed up in some dank, dark, un-air conditioned, non-wi-fi enabled rehearsal room pounding out the numbers for The Last Starfighter  ;)

Although it's true about the first day of rehearsal and him (FJL) saying he would be computer-less all day.

FJL is rehearsing....I stupidly hit the wrong name in my contacts on my cell phone when I was trying to call my brother and got FJL.  I didn't realize who it was until after I hung up...but he did say "Are you looking for someone in the show?" so I'm assuming he was at rehearsal. I've already sent an email apology, but sorry FJL, if I had realized it was you sooner I would have said hello.

Of course, if we the think the posting total is low this week, wait until the last week of September when everyone will be in NY visiting with each other, seeing shows together, and dining out at some of the finer automats in the city.

Well, my prescription sunglasses aren't bifocals so I can never read the dang phone when I'm driving!  I wish I would have realized it before I hung up.  I almost called back, but I could tell you were doing something with the show, so I didn't want to bother you

I have the same problem.  Get a bluetooth wireless & you can tell it who to call, when it understands what you said ;D

TCB, it is possible you will be much improved after physical therapy.  The problem is getting you through it.  Did you ask your doctor about pain management?  I think you are an excellent candidate for it.

As far as I am concerned it is a bad thing.  I got nothing out of the P. T. for the two weeks that I was going, so I can't even imagine three months of it.  I have had the same doctor for almost twenty years, he has been there for me through all of the bad times.  I can't imagine changing now.  Even if I wanted to, I couldn't do anythning until January when our new medical year begins.

Yes, I asked the question, but that question was ignored.

Who referred you to the physical therapist?  Maybe you need a different one.
Do you need another referral from your regular physician to see the surgeon again?

I have a CLOSER question, which could include spoilers.

I have seen Fritz pouring wine for Brenda.  I seem to recall he also had a wine   glass, so what was in it? ;)

My question, have we seen wine poured into his glass, or heard him order a drink elsewhere?

Because you can't wait to get home and start watching Blazing Saddles?  ;)

I think he will be quite delighted with the high def version of BLAZING SADDLES. I had the SD-DVD for years, and it was OK though a very dirty print was used for the DVD master.

The Blu-ray version looks spotless, and has very saturated colors and that three dimensional pop that distinguishes high def from standard def.

Since Warners uses the same masters for their HD-DVD and Blu-ray releases, his HD-DVD version wil look exactly the same as my Blu-ray one.

Had an interesting night of TV viewing. Of course, I began with more GREY'S ANATOMY episodes. I got to the end of episode 20. Five more episodes to go.

Yep, got to the infamous one where George, in  a drunken moment, made a pass at Izzie. Got to the beautiful moment, however, when Izzie is having the spinal tap, and George barges in to hold her hand.

I've never paid much attention to Fritz's drinking habits during the three years. I did remember Brenda loves Merlot, and I guess I always assumed he'd had one or more glasses of it with her.

Since I had watched any BONES reruns this summer (and the BONES second season set comes out next week), I decided to watch one tonight.

No, my cable isn't repaired. I watched it on over-the-air HD.

Enjoyable episode about the dead astronaut. Nice mystery, but I did remember the killer's identity.

When I watch some older episodes from the first two seasons in upcoming days (which I wil since I'm almost finished with GREY'S ANATOMY), I'll pay more attention.

And my cable was working fine on Monday night when I recorded SAVING GRACE, so I watched that to end my evening. It was probably my favorite episode of the season. A fair mystery (not enough suspects), but the personal stuff with Grace was interesting for a change, and there was far less swearing this week than in any previous week.

Finally back from an extremely long day - I can't do these anymore, unless it's on a Saturday when I can sleep in on Sunday.

Milla was grand fun, although I was a bit surprised FJL was not there.  Noel bolted at six-thirty so I didn't really get to talk to him, but it was fun finally meeting Michael Glenn Smith, the star of Celebration.

Penny Fuller was really terrific.  I must write the notes now and since it just took me forty-five minutes to answer e-mails and read all the postings, I do hope we're not on page ten by the time I close this down.

Just learned today that one of my interviewees, former child star Marcia Mae Jones, passed away at thE Motion Picture Country Home on Sunday  :-\

She was 83. She died of pneumonia. Quite a gal she was and a great sense of humor, let me tell you! Many of you may remember her from the Shirley Temple films HEIDI and THE LITTLE PRINCESS or the little tormented girl in THESE THREE.
