That's what I think of when I think of Donny Osmond.  For some reason his name always reminds me of singing those songs on the playground in elementary school....

We will watch The Vicar of Dibley this evening after laundry and dinner.

I will be in the office tomorrow.

Anthony is working on a dance piece with his teacher and he has a rehearsal tomorrow afternoon.

Anthony also has an engagement Sunday afternoon and while he engages I will try to get over to the East Side (I need to find my passport and fill out the proper forms) to see the TheatreMania block of the Street Fair.

Bruce, although those sausage and pepper sandwiches may look and smell good, be warned, IMHO (in my humble opinion) they are not as good as they look. Just an opinion from an old New Yorker.

Goodbye, DR Ben! Good morning, all!  I had quite a wonderful day yesterday: a good morning with "The Brain" and luncheon with its wonderful team, then a pleasant bus ride home as I read Pere Goriot, and a quiet afternoon working on the Curtain Calls. I was going to see the new Gilfry apartment last night, but Rodney had an emergency meeting with his agents in the late afternoon and that shuffled their evening schedule to shop and receive guests.  That's all quite fine, and I may go up to the apartment tonight to check it out.

This morning, I will try to write the last two playoffs, run to a copy place and copy all the new scores, and head down to rehearsal.  This afternoon, I'm back to my editorial guidelines for Toyland.  Oy!

TOD:
DVD:  The Scarlet Letter (PBS, 1979)
CD:  The Brain, Guy Haines, Rebecca Luker "Leaving Home," Susan Egan "Coffee Shop"
VCR: Let's all sing like the brdies sing, Chheap, cheap, cheap!

I'm up and shaved and shall shower in twenty minutes or so (boy, do I have my routine down).

Yesterday, after seven years of broken promises, delays, Orwellian behavior, more delays, and even more delays, Tim Lucas's Mario Bava tome (all 1200 pages of it) arrived in LA.  I do think it's funny that after all that time it arrives when I'm in NY can can't even unwrap it until my return.  I did think, because I've been so critical of his behavior that he'd ship mine last, but I'm happy to say it's here and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I spent a rather uncomfortable night - sleeping infrequently and fighting about of acute nausea.  Actually there was nothing acute about it - it was augly, in fact.  It never went anywhere bad, but I was up for most of the night, and that's not good.  On top of that, there are so many things on my mind right now, which also isn't good, and I just have to only think of the show for the next two weeks.

BTW (by the way) are there any Dear Readers out there in the dark who have a copy of BK's recording of As Thousands Cheer and would be willing to make me a copy? I have a copy but it was burned a few years ago from a copy I found in the library (I have never seen it in any store including Academy and other used CD emporiums). My burned copy has stopped working! It won't play in any CD player or computer. I was going to bring it to the office as part of my CD listening today but since it's not working, I can't do that.

DR Elmore - thanks for asking.  Richard is on the phone with her right now, after already talking with one of her doctors.  She has an intestinal obstruction that, if it doesn't respond to treatment over the weekend, will require surgery.  A very risky proposition for a 90-year-old woman with a bad heart.  Heavy HHW vibes will be appreciated.

I have been a very naughty girl this morning...

I am reviewing a book for a quiz in my Latin American history class and burst out laughing when I read the comment of this author associating "aphasia' for the Spaniards lack of cultural understanding during the early 1500s in Mexico of the native peoples as brain damaged so to speak. AT the same time, Radio Australia was running a report about GEorge Bush and how some see him. Now I am completely envisioning George Bush as being braindamaged.

Thanks for all the responses to my query about As Thousands Cheer. It seems to be a popular CD. Since Bruce still has copies available I will get one from him when he returns to LA. If I have a chance to have a "pressed" copy over a "burned" copy, I'll take the pressed copy, just because of times like this when my burned copy no longer works. Again, thanks for the offers of help.

I"m not feeling too hot today.  I did come into the office to get some things resolved, but I'm not sure I'll stay long.  Think I may try going out for a real breakfast before I decide that I'm not up for the day.   I really should be here for an appointment at 1:00 PM, so....

I am eager to see the Ultimate Edition (the Lowry remasters of all the Bond movies) of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. It was the last of the Sean Connery Bonds in the official series that I didn't have in these new, spiffed-up remasters, so I'm sure it's going to look AND sound phenomenal. That will definitely take up my afternoon viewing.

Sorry to be so E&T. No internet at the new house yet, and we will be busy moving all weekend.

Plus, it takes so much time to dress the kitties:

necktie shirt - foppish Red Price: 2,500Yen (according to tax)

It is the shirt which matches well to a handsome cat and which was pretended just for a moment.

These goods are the very great necktie shirts which match well to a handsome cat. The black necktie is attached to the crimson shirt. They are helpful goods, such as the time of a home party, to be dressed up just for a moment. Of course, a female cat can also have this shirt on. Since it can equip on a piece of Velcro, attachment and detachment are easy!

In the latest Critics' Choice CD catalog, I noticed that three of their old LPs are being put out on CD and offered by them. That got me to thinking about listening to the albums I have and enjoying them all over again. I hadn't dragged them out in years, and listening to them reminded me how truly crazy I was about them in the 1960s. I was even a member of their fan club in high school!

RE: last night's BIG BROTHER (no spoilers so DR MBarnum can read)

I must say i was so disgusted by last night's show. It made me sick.

I cannot stand dick and daniele. And was mad that eric was so close to winning hoh (and getting one of them out).

The only good part is that america realizes daniele is a whiny witch and they chose her to go.

DR Cillaliz, i know everyone is entitled to their opinion.  But it is upsetting when i read people say how much they like d&d.  They are quite awful.  I guess maybe if you saw it for yourself (cbs edits out much of it).

I'm curious if dani was America's choice because a)she was a brat to their fav dick or b) she lied to eric and voted out jess

One other thing that bugged me was dick and dani's chat in the bathroom at the end of the show. Apparently dick must have gone to jameka right before the live show and offered her a deal. Since dani whispered that they have her for hoh and pov (her vote).

That really bugs me since they were already going to vote out jess. And basically they just lied to get jameka to promise she would side with them. I really hope she doesn't.

re: whether d&d have played a good game.

Well it's not the kind of game i like. I think dick is a horrible person and he will most definitely lose if he gets to F2.

And while i strongly dislike dani and do not want her win i think she has one quality i really like. She is a good competitor. I suppose she has manipulated the most people too. So i guess she would be somewhat deserving.

Btw, i was really mad that zach did not use the pov last night. I would have loved that so much.

I haven't yet read what happened last night. But zach won hoh. i am sure he will nom jameka. At least one good thing could come of this. IF jameka wins pov then a donato will go.and i will be happy.

i'm hoping for dani (to go).

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...  And I've already packed my bag, cleaned my room, and I'm just waiting for one more load of laundry to finish drying.  Then it's off to the theatre for rehearsal at 1:00, then off to the airport at 4:30.  -I'm soooo dreading having to head to LGA during rush hour, but it's the only way I could work out my schedule and flight today.  However, the flight does not depart until 6:55pm, so that gives me a solid hour to get from midtown to LGA.  That should be enough time.

Anne of Green Gables is under cleaning. Red Price: 3,800 Yen (according to tax)

Do you also attach to a cat and do hair? It is the costume play of a masterpiece "Anne of Green Gables"!

Anne of Green Gables appeared in popular costume play series! The hair of the red hair of costume is coquettish and cute. The cat which became a hood figure is likely to have a broom at any moment, and is likely to begin cleaning. As for the blouse of the country tone made with the same cloth as a hood, the yellow flower arrangement of the center of a collar is impressive, and looks very prettily! Since it can equip with a hood and a blouse on a piece of Velcro, attachment and detachment are easy!

MOVING VIBES to DR EDI!

(Here's hoping we won't need to send you back-healing vibes.)

I already need them---and knee healing, too!

But my Dad needs them more---he is in the hospital for a brief stay so I'm running around like a crazy person. (Crazier than usual, anyway...)

And I'm on call for work so I keep checking my email...argh.

Thanks, DR MISS KAREN.....and you?  ;D

The audience loved it -- laughing at all the right places, and then some -- and responding to all the musical numbers -- actually cheering at the end of "Girl Next Door."  I was resetting props, so got down to the reception a little later, but the managing director was telling me everyone came in raving about it.  No one asked to tour our dressing rooms, but our cast went to the reception in costume and the one lead ends the play in his boxers, so he went to the reception in those with his tool belt strappped on so I guess that appeased the crowd....

Of course, there were some tech problems -- mic issues and the light tech guy missed (or added) some light cues -- a few dropped or flubbed lines here and there but mainly stuff the audience doesn't notice as much as those of us who have been living it for 2 months.

Oh, and you'll be proud to know that although I considered having a talk with my two divas, I decided that it was better to keep any negative vibes away from the stage and just go in there and be up beat.  I think I was letting them get to me too much (giving 'em too much power) so it's funny how you can control situations by your own attitude.  I went in there yesterday afternoon happy all the work was done, ready to enjoy opening night -- and just ready to rock'n roll.  And rock'n roll we did.

Oh, and the lyricist and co-writer Bob Cohen is coming to see it this weekend. He will also be doing a workshop tomorrow from 10-2.  I'm anxious to see what he thinks. They wrote it as the type of musical where the chorus is put on a riser/platform and dressed in black. I went "yuck" and spent months planning the set and blocking to where we have a cute little stylized neighborhood with picket fence, houses, etc., and the chorus plays neighbors, townspeople, etc.  And all you dog-loving HHWers will appreciate that I wanted a live dog in the opening number and in a few other scenes with the main character (the script called for a mechanical dog tail waving from off stage ...).  I was going to use Deuce, but it turned out the actor playing the dog owner had his own dog -- so Lucy Langford is playing Mr. Kincaid (and the audience loved her!).

I'm back, obviously, from a fun-filled rehearsal this morning.  I saw a lot of the musical numbers and ended up again as the audience member of "The Brain Tap." Curse you, DR Cason and BK, for continuing to subject me to this torture!

I do love being onstage with Ms Alet Taylor, however.

Mr Rodney Gilfry came to the rehearsal and had a wonderful time: only occasional DR Merrill Grant, among the introduced cast members, knew who he was and she was quite thrilled to meet him.  When he left, he asked me to apologize to BK that he was leaving tomorrow and sorry that he couldn't visit more with him. He also told me to have BK contact him when he's back in LA.

And now I have to return to Toyland for a while.

I am uncertain about the street fair on Sunday.  With my church obligations, the earliest train I could get into the city wouldn't get me to Grand Central until 2:09 PM.  Not certain if I could get up to the stage in time, and certainly wouldn't be able to get close enough to the stage to see and/or greet the performers afterwards, even if I could get there in time!  :(

Perhaps someone tossed my cookies?

After the last few weeks with multiple TV box sets, it was kind of a relief to watch just a regular movie today. As I noted earlier, it was DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, the new Ultimate Edition remastering which has removed every spek of dust, dirt, scratch and increased sharpness without making the image appear overly digitized. It was beautiful looking with only an occasional moment where it seemed flesh tones were too pale.

The sound, of course, was repurposed into a BOOMING DTS 5.1 track that was superb. In a couple of places, it was obvious that the sound was derived from a mono source, places where explosions didn't rock the house the way others did. Overall, however, it was a well done new version of the soundtrack (and the mono is still there if one desires to hear it.)

Next, I got a hankering to see GONE WITH THE WIND. I haven't watched it in a long time, so I put on the first disc (I much prefer the first half to the second). The Ultra-Resolution version is certainly beautiful and clean, again not a mark or speck to be seen.

I only got up to the birth of Melanie's baby. Not sure if I'll finish it today/tonight or wait and watch more tomorrow afternoon. Probably the latter since I want to see a Blu-ray disc tonight before MONK coems on.

Something is definitely going on with the telephone line that I reported on Tuesday. No, my phone service has been fine sicne I reported the downed line Tuesday morning, but I saw an AT&T truck on my side street when I went out to do my errands at 11:30, and then it's been parked in my neighbor's driveway all afternoon. He left a little bit ago, but the problem must have been a lot more complex than just the service to my house.

May I recommend a New York musical show about which I've just learnt through the post printed below and the nice musical clips on the site of the singer! It only plays on Sept. 9 and, if I could, I would attend!

"Greetings from NYC! I'm a fellow Disney music lover, and have been lurking around the online Disney sites for far too long. I finally decided to take the plunge and join in 'cause of a wonderful new show of Disney music I just saw here, and have officially taken under my "I-Love-Disney" wing Smiley I'm so glad another friend of mine who works at the World of Disney store here told me about the show...I would have been so sad to have missed it.

The show is called "Don't Tell Walt," and it is one of the most funny, moving, loving evenings of music I've ever heard. It features Bill McKinley, an amazing singer who sang in both Pocahontas and Mulan (how cool is THAT?!--I've actually met a Disney Singer!), and who has been a Disney fan all his life. He tells such beautiful stories and self-deprecatingly talks of being a "Disney Nerd"--just wonderful. And he sings all these great Disney songs you know and love, in ways that make you hear them like your hearing them for the very first time. There's even a song from an unproduced Disney stage musical of "Winnie The Pooh." Such fun!

Anyway, the show has gotten fabulous reviews, and he's only doing one more show, this Sunday, here in NYC. I know he's planning on performing it elsewhere across the country as opportunity permits, but if you can get to the show on Sunday, don't miss it.

I've told Bill that I've adopted him and his show, so he knows I'm not a stalker <g>. If you'd like more information about his show, you can go to this link on his website:

http://www.billmckinley.com/dish%3A.html

There's a really cool flyer there about the show. And if you can't access the website, here's the show info:

Bill McKinley in Don't Tell Walt

The Metropolitan Room
34 W 22nd St (between 5th and 6th Avenues)

I saw an interesting film called "The Zodiac" on one of the HD channels yesterday evening.

It stars Justin Chambers as a detective on the trail of "the Zodiac killer", and has an eerie performance by William Mapother as a newscaster.

The voice of "the Zodiac killer" (we never see his face, or his full frame) was Brian Bloom.

Back from rehearsal.  We didn't have Rob Evan today, so we spent the first half of the day putting Alet into all her scenes and running those musical numbers within the scenes.  I had to remind her of a few bits, but mostly she just got right back into it and remembered everything.  She's so wonderful in this show and she's having a blast because her compatriots are such strong actors.

I had to have a production meeting during lunch hour, mostly about financial issues, prop concerns and all that crap.  After lunch, we ran a cue to cue of all the scene shifts and cleaned those up, plus ran the tap number again a few times, plus ran the number we're doing at the street fair on Sunday.

Tonight I was invited to be part of a focus group.

We watched 4 TV spots, saw 5 print ads and heard one radio commercial and then discussed it all

There were 6 of us all ladies together and the moderator.. we had a really fun time and were paid $75  and given a free product as well

Good afternoon, or is it evening? I left the office a little early, I still wasn't feeling up to par.  I also had to deal with a water issue...we had over an inch of rain in 20 minutes! (I knew it was a lot but didn't realize it was that much that fast until I saw the news) anyway, the water came into the room I had been working on downstairs just as it apparently had in the past.   It was a good thing, actually, now I know exactly where it came in so I can do what I need to do to fix it. The room is currently nothing but cement on the floor and walls, so it didn't hurt anything.  The water came in under the sliding glass door and ran through the room under the door in the house and into the hallway.

I have always hated the old carpet in that hallway - brown and beige plaid - it looked like a flanel shirt!  So when I came home, instead of trying to dry it....I tore it out.  Luckily it wasn't glued to the cement floor so it wasn't too hard to get out.  In the process I was once again glowing like crazy.   After a cool down and a rest, I am feeling much better.

I hope this doesn't mean every time I feel bad I should tear out some carpet...I think I only have wall to wall carpet left in 3 rooms and the basement stairs!

Depends on what he looks like.

What will you replace the carpet with, that won't get ruined in the rain?

I may tile the room or just do some fun floor paint - my sister-in-law painted theirs to look like cobblestones - and use area rugs.  I just won't use carpet.  I'll also try to seal up the leaks so it doesn't matter

OH! That's the problem, I've been tearing a rug when I should be cutting one...

I think it stinks that Legally Blonde is going to be broadcast on TV during it's Broadway run.  It makes me feel a little ripped off knowing that we are paying for tickets to something we could have watched on TV.   Ok, I know the real thing is a better experience, but we could have seen something else and then watched Legally Blonde on tv.   Especially since Playbill says it will be broadcast in late September, the same time we're seeing it in person.

No, I definitely wouldn't do that. The hallway leads to the only bathroom with a full sized shower, so even if the floor is dry, feet could be wet.  You can get paint that has texture so it isn't so slippery.

And here's (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/11526) a very positive review of Penny Fuller's cabaret program.

Wow, what a nice review!

All our discussions regarding Penny Fuller & Kyra Sedgwick I didn't realize they did a film together, MISS ROSE WHITE.  After reading the review I checked out  Miss Fuller's credit's at IMDB & discover said fact.  I noticed many other shows I have seen her in.

No, I'm not conflicted. I just think that while people are paying such insane prices to see a show, you shouldn't be able to turn on the TV and see it free.  But when the show has closed and you can't see it on Broadway at any price, then I think it's great to broadcast it.

LOL-The possibility of leaving a bathroom with wet feet is something I never considered. I don't step off the bathmat without dry feet or socks on.  I have seen what guests have done to a bathroom floor so I think you have a good idea there.

It's sort of like RENT. It's Samantha's all time favorite, but she said she doesn't need to see it on Broadway because she's seen the movie with most of the original cast, so she'd rather see something that she can't see any other way - well, we're going to Legally Blonde and now she could see that on TV.   Knowing it will be on TV about the same time we see it live makes me wish we had picked something else to see.

Speaking of Kyra, I remembered while watching last night why I started watching the Closer and quickly quit.  It's because her techinques of coercing confessions, while entertaining, are usually in violation of the right to counsel and are involuntary. A good defense lawyer could get many if not all of them thrown out ...but putting that aside, as entertainment, I do like the show

An inflamed rotator cuff:

If the cuff is bruised only, bleeding into the tendons occurs, the tendons swell, and pain increases. This entrapment of the swollen cuff may persist for months, increasing and decreasing in intensity usually related to activity. The entrapment of the rotator cuff is called the "impingement syndrome. " The syndrome is typically characterized by pain when the arm is in the overhead position, pain when twisting a screw driver or opening a bottle top, or pulling a cork, or when skiing. For the athlete, the pain is usually at the front of the shoulder.

RE: them showing LEGALLY BLONDE on MTV. I think it's an interesting experiment for them to try. If the kids who are obcessed with shows like HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL will watch this show and want to see it, then i think it could be quite successful.

Also, re: RENT the movie. I still don't get that one.  The movie is not the show. If it was your favorite movie, how could you not want to see the show live? (although without the OBC it's not the same, but still).

DR Jennifer, going to New York from here to see a show or shows is a very big deal. when you're only there for a couple days and can only see one or two shows, and have to pay the crazy prices you have to pay now, why wouldn't you want to see something you can't see anywhere else?   And if you can seen it on TV free, why on earth would you pay that much to see it live when there are many other shows to choose from?

When I went to Spring Awakening, I sat next to a girl who had seen it 28 times and had seen The Wedding Singer 46 times or something like that.  Now THAT'S what I don't get.   I think I'm a bit crazy to have seen Curtains 6 times, but at least it was in development and was slightly different every time I saw it.  I also wonder where these kids get the money to see the shows that many times.

Rehabilitation and Treatment

Treatment of inflammation of the rotator cuff begins with an accurate diagnosis to rule out a tear of the cuff, followed by a combination of anti-inflammatory and strengthening maneuvers. An anti-inflammatory agent such as ibuprofen or aspirin is ingested daily and continued for six weeks. Regular dosing is required to build up blood level and to maintain that level throughout the initial treatment time to obtain the optimum anti-inflammatory effect. By diminishing the inflammation, further strengthening and stretching exercises can be performed.

The combination of a good warm up, gentle stretching, strengthening below the limits of pain, icing after working out and anti-inflammatory medication has been consistently shown to speed recovery time in the strongest possible fashion.

Not doing the above can make it worse.

I hope the surgeon is correct & it isn't torn:

If the cuff is torn, early arthroscopic or open repair is often helpful.

Cole Porter must have known him!! :o

Once I loved such a shattering physician,
Quite the BEST-LOOKING DOCTOR in the state.
He looked after my physical condition,
And his bedside manner was great.
When I'd gaze up and see him there above me,
Looking less like a doctor than a Turk,
I was tempted to shisper, "Do you love me,
Or do you merely love your work?"

TCB-There is hope!

Most people recover full function after a combination of medications, physical therapy, and steroid injections. For patients with tendinitis and a bone spur, arthroscopic surgery is usually successful in restoring them to their pre-injury level of activity.

I certianly understand why you are upset.   I would be, also.  Seeing a show on Broadway is a very special thing.  And a very expensive thing.  They have damaged this experience for you.  Actually, I think you should write a letter to the producers (on your legal letterhead) and let them know exactly how unfair you think they are being to their theater patrons.  I'm serious!

Good Evening!

Greetings from Charlotte!

The flight in was very uneventful, however, it did take a while for us to get off the ground.  They had closed the air space off due to the Blue Angels fly-over of Shea Stadium for the Mets' game tonight.  So... When the captain came on the loudspeaker to tell us we were number 30 in line to take off, and all flights would still be grounded for a couple more minutes... Well.. Surprisingly, there weren't too many grumbles from the passengers, and the captain also had a great sense of humor about it all too, so that helped ease everyone's unease.  In any case, I think we only ended up taking off 20 minutes later than scheduled.  However, due to air and air-traffic conditions, the captain was not able to make up some of the lost flight time en route to Charlotte.  However (again), since the captain and most of the flight crew was due to transfer to other outgoing flights from Charlotte, no one missed their connecting flights.

And I have a nice hotel room (again), with a nice view of downtown Charlotte.

And I'm eating a piece of Red Velvet Cake right now too.  So...

Life is good.

:)

-And now time to catch up...

How funny (and sad) that someone who seems to have everything going his way is so thoroughly misguided.

I went up to see Ms Carin Gilfry's apartment, which is beautiful and huge with three bedrooms, then she, Rodney, and I went to Target at 225th Street for a lot of supplies.  We had dinner there at the local Applebees, shopped, carted it back to the apartment and I returned home.  It was a lovely evening and I was sad to say goodbye to Rod, who heads back to LA tomorrow afternoon.

He had a couple of questions about the cast and the rehearsal today; he thinks Alet is really good (she is indeed!), and he told Carin that the show and score were low humor of a very high order.

DR Cillaliz - Worse comes to worse... You could always pick up your tickets at the box office when you get into town, then sell them to a ticket-broker, then use those proceeds to see another show.  Or buy a couple dozen Levain cookies.  -And send a box of them to DR Ron Pulliam.  ;D

We really do have to go to Levian.... I've been dying to taste their cookies for a very long time

I actually thought about something like that with the tickets, but Legally Blonde is so OMIGOD perfect for Samantha that I'll just have to get over it. She's been listening to the CD and loves it.  SO....Plus, she just may buy the yoga pants and I couldn't deprive my dear niece that pleasure..

According to Playbill it's a done deal. They are taping on September 18, free tickets for those between 15-25 years old who agree to wear pink

I just went there and read the article before coming back here to see your post.

I can't believe my eyes skimmed over it when I was at the site this afternoon.

So...  As for my Mary Poppins rehearsal today...

It was the first staging rehearsal that I've played for the show.  And, actually, it was the first rehearsal that I've actually played for the show - the past two days, I've just sat back and taken notes.  Well, let's just say that there truly is nothing more valuable than actual "hands-on" experience.  And, for me today, that meant playing while through the score with a conductor, and actually playing/practicing the score a bit more.

I did OK.  I could have, and should have done a lot better.  Brad, the conductor, came in during the last part of rehearsal, and, of course, that just made me extremely self-conscious and nervous.  But since we were going through "Jolly Holiday" - a.k.a. The One With The Big Dance Break - I was thankful to have some guidance with the tempos and feels.  Alas, my eyes, fingers and mind just didn't seem to be coordinating today.  -And, for some freakish reason, I couldn't play anything slow(!) today?!?!?!?  In any case...

After I had left rehearsal, and finally managed to hail a cab to the airport, I called Brad, and we talked about today's rehearsal.  Some of it good, some of it not so good - which did not surprise me.  I didn't feel like a musician today, let alone a competent pianist.  However, he did say that the Resident Director was very happy with me - so that helped me breath a bit easier.  I do have my score with me down here in Charlotte, and I believe I shall be using bits and pieces of it over the next couple of days as my warm-up.

In summary... Whew!

My Bollywood movie tonight was a bust...FOOTPATH (20003)...it is a gangster film all about drugs and friendships and stuff...it had some good dance and song numbers...but otherwise I guess I wasn't in the mood...

....so instead I think I might watch some episodes of old TV shows that I got in the mail today like BROKEN ARROW, BOSTON BLACKIE, or perhaps TRACKDOWN.

Now I am hungry.

Our sexy nurse called the director today at 4 p.m. and said she had strep throat and a fever - so Sandi our stage manager played the sexy nurse tonight.

Whew!  As DRJOSE is wont to say.   :P

She did fine, but it wasn't easy.  8)

DR TCB.....maybe the sexy hottie is my cousin Brad....who plays Ben.  I don't think anyone else in the photo remotely qualifies as such, present company excepted of course.

We had a GREAT audience - nearly sold out - with lots and lots of laughs.  Thank you, Mr Neil Simon.

And as for the cab ride to the airport...

Earlier in the day, I had tried arranging for a car service to pick me up at the theatre this afternoon after rehearsal, but no one had any cars available, so...  Time to cab it.

Well, first I tried hailing one on 7th Ave..  Then I tried hailing one on Broadway... then 6th Ave... then 5th Avenue (since I needed to be heading uptown anyway)...  The cab strike is over, but since I was trying to catch a cab at the start of rush hour, well.. And it also turns out that a bunch of cabbie's shifts, shift between 5:00-6:00 too.  There were lots of "Off Duty" signs lit up.  In any case...

I was finally able to hail one down at 5th Ave in front of Bryant Park - which is all "tented up" right now for Fall Fashion Week.  I told him I needed to get to La Guardia, and he said he would do his best to get me there as fast as possible.  I said I had two hours before my flight, but he mentioned that he had to get his cab back to the garage by 5:30 since someone else was due to take it out for the evening shift.  Well... I told him I could try to catch another cab if he was worried that he was going to get penalized for coming in late, but he said since I was a "nice man" that he would do his best to get me to the airport and get himself back to the garage.  -He also mentioned that he needed the fare, since he had been on strike the past two days.

We hit the usual traffic snarls on the East Side and on the BQE, but, somehow he managed to get me to LGA at 5:15 - we left midtown at 4:45.  Not bad at all!  And since his garage was right near the airport... At one point, we did come across an accident, and we thought the traffic had truly stopped.  I told him that if he just wanted to pull of the highway and drop me off where I could catch an M60 bus the rest of way, but then the traffic started moving again.  And, thankfully, I was flying out of the first terminal, so he didn't have to navigate the loop at the LGA.

To thank him for his service, I ended up paying him what the car service would have cost.  He seemed truly grateful for his tip.... Then sped off to make it back to his garage.

Indeed.

Although, I had forgotten just how bad a passenger I can be in a car at times.  Well, how being a passenger in a car can affect me.  All the "motion" coupled with the post-stress of my rehearsal was really doing a number on my head and stomach.  I was actual thankful to have a bit of breathing room - literally - once I got to the airport.

...And once I got checked in the hotel here, I went ahead and took a walk around downtown Charlotte just to get myself reacquainted with the neighborhood so to speak.  It's amazing just how much growth has gone on here over the past couple of years.  I've come here almost every fall for the past seven years, and there's always some new building - or stadium(!) - to see on a each return trip.

I went ahead and stopped into Mert's to get some food for take-out: a large bowl of chicken soup, and a slice of Red Velvet Cake.  Something for my stomach, and something for my soul.  :)

In Madison Square Park?  Yes.  And I would eat there more often if the lines weren't so darn long.  I really have to wonder how some of the "regulars" are able to take off all that time for lunch, since sometimes the wait can be as long as your lunch break.

Back from the show and supper and now must bang out some notes in a hurry.

I will say I just had to spend twenty minutes writing a Kimmel e-mail to my general manager and stage manager, mostly having to do with my displeasure about prop cutbacks, which I will not accept under any circumstances.  This was as a result of today's meeting where I was told it would cost $600 to build this one prop, said prop being responsible for one of the biggest laughs in the show.  I agreed to let them try an alternative but immediately regretted it, and then at dinner with BJ and Cason we figured out that the LA version of the prop probably cost all of fifty bucks.  These people have had a DVD of this show for eight weeks - all they had to do was actually LOOK at the damn thing.  They kept asking me for the specs, but school was out and no one was around.  Anyway, I think BJ will build what we need, and because they've taken me down this road, I have now asked for receipts and an itemization of every single penny spent on anything to do with sets and props and costumes.  There was a reasonable amount in each category, and given that our set designer came up with a brilliant solution to our set storage problem, our actual set pieces are three chairs, a table, a tabletop, and a bench.  So where did all that money go?  Well, I'm going to damn well find out on Monday.

Oh, and I will get the props I want - I put it to them simply - I have been totally collaborative and I have bent over backwards to make everyone happy and to find solutions.  BUT - when they're cheapness impinges on laughs, that's where I dig in my heels and don't budge.  Unfortunately for them, these people have no idea what I can turn into when unhappy.  They're about to find out, though.
