Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sweaty, and now it is time for you to post until the sweaty cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHILIAD!
-
Laura, both Brent and Jason had conflicts arise, which happens sometimes when you book as far in advance as we did. Did I include Alice Ripley on the list?
-
That's a shame. I hope no one else has to drop out.
-
Things happen, I hope good things continue and the rehearsals are successful and the fundraiser continues to fall into place.
-
Well, the news isn't good on the lawyer I was mentioning. Apparently he lost control of his car on the interstate, slid off the road and hit a tree. Both he and his passenger were killed. It was on the news tonight. He doesn't drink. I'm wondering if he either fell asleep or a deer ran out in front if him
-
On the other hand, I just got home from a very fun birthday party. It was outside along the Missouri River which is flowing like crazy after all the rain we've had. The temps started in the 70s then the wind came up and it was in the 60s when I came home. I saw a lot of people I haven't seen in awhile. It was really nice.
-
Before I went to the party I painted the trim around the garage doors. Boy, does that look better
-
Now I need to get some sleep. Night all
-
Today (since it's actually still Saturday ;) otherwise, yesterday), I went to work for a few hours (I walked to work...it's only about a mile) then walked to Quiznos for a bite to eat, then walked home. I checked my mail just before I got to my house and I received two, count 'em...TWO DVDs from First Run Films! I bought "The Internationale" (I actually bought this before, but it was for my dad...this is my copy) and "Sacco and Vanzetti"!! Both of which are edited by our very own Edisaurus! Finally, I'll get to watch them. :D
-
Yesterday’s topic of the day: Cashews!! I love me some cashews. A local pizza place has cashews as one of their specialty items and my favorite pizza is pepperoni, pineapple and cashew pizza with extra cheese and sauce. The best. :)
Also pecans (especially pecan pie) and almonds and hazelnuts (especially in Nutella ;))

MBarnum, my condolences on the loss of your friend.

Cilla, my condolences on the loss of your friend.

When it went off, we watched TORCHWOOD which was recorded while WTC was on. It was an entertaining beginning episode with some good actors in the regular roles. I don't know how many episodes of this have been filmed, but I'm going to continue watching.
I bought the first series (in three parts, region 2) from Amazon.co.uk and there are 13 episodes. I don't know if there is (or will be) a second series, but what I've seen have been quite good. :)

Oh! I almost forgot...I also received in the mail a very lovely package from the very lovely Dan (the Man)!!

DR Danise: Hope your toe feels better, PRONTO!!! :)
-
Enjoyed your pictures, DearReaderLaura, DR!
-
DR Cillaliz, I am truly sorry about your loss. :(
-
I'm afraid I won't be at the Brain scene at the street fair today, much as I'd love to. I just can't get an early enough train in with my other commitments.
***PERFORMANCE VIBES*** to the cast!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I should be at Starbucks in about 15-20 minutes. ;)
-
All caught up, but I have nothing to add.
-
bk - Do you have a Genius Bar appointment set up for today? With all the students back in town, I'm sure it will be mobbed. *And, remember, if you have the Apple Select Care - or whatever they call it - and I think you do, you can make the appointment online via Apple's website via the Store Locator.
-
I assume a BALM IN CHILIAD joke would be called for given the word of the day, but I have no such joke.
-
DR Cillaliz - I'm sorry the news about that lawyer turned out to be true.
-
And that's about all I can think of to post about now.. and about all I have time for. So... Here we go again! (Ah, a big reference!)
Laters...
-
Good morning, all! I have little to report but that this round of editorial guidelines is driving me up the wall.
DR Cillaliz, I too am so sorry to hear about your friend.
DR Danise, I'm sorry to hear about the toe injury. I hope you didn't break it, but you might see your doctor to be certain that it's healing properly.[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]

Morning all!
Thank you for the vibes on my toe. I think it will be ok. It's still a little red but not as sore. I should have put some antibiotic on it sooner. My bad for letting it get this far.
Cilla, I'm also sorry about your friend. Vibes to you and his family.
I wish I could come up and see the Brain and Starfighter. I'm sorry that Michael S won't be able to go like he planned. I am glad that he's ok. That's the main thing.
I remember when I was in NY I looked out my hotel window at about two AM and thought that it would be much more busy then it was for "the city that never sleeps".
I'll be glad when 9-11 passes. I know something else could happen at any time of the year but it worries me that someone might get it into their head to try to top what happened on that day.
We have all kinds of drills and classes about that stuff as "just in case". I don't like to think about it.
Gotta go. Dog park. I'm being told that we need to leave--SOON! :)
-
Cilla - so sorry to hear about your friend. Take care.
Danise - hope that toe gets better quickly.

Thanks for this information, DR George. Since Saturday night is pretty much a wasteland on network TV, this looks like a series I can count on seeing (or recording) each Saturday for awhile. I like that all the guys appear to be sexually dexterous.
-
Very sorry to read about your lawyer friend, DR Cilla. Very sad indeed.
-
Toe vibes for DR DANISE.
Shocking news DR CILLA LIZ.....it's always hard to imagine such an accident happening to someone we know.
-
Page Two Ron, Semus, and Harry Dance!!!
-
Rain rain and more rain here yesterday. And maybe more today.
The audience didn't laugh as much last night....more subdued....hopefully next week's audiences will be ready to laugh louder and longer.
-
Working today....but it's only six hours.
-
Quiet audiences when you're doing a comedy are SO difficult. It's obviously not the play's fault and more than likely not the actors' faults either, so it has to be the audience's fault. At least that's what I've always told myself when I've appeared in front of a cold audience.
-
Looking forward to meeting up with DR Jose later today. We should have a lot to talk about after all of these years of typing out our thoughts.
-
And there is ZERO for me to watch on TV tonight. Yes, there is a new HBO series beginning that I have no interest in and the new season of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM which I've already done years ago.
So, I'll likely watch the Blu-ray of THE DEPARTED. It's a long film so that should take up a good portion of the evening.
-
And the word of the day is: CHILIAD!
And The Song of The Day: A THOUSAND YEARS
Let's hear it for STING
-
Here is what I survived.
-
So good to have you back, Michael S.
-
Glad to see you are okay, Michael S. Too bad for the car, though.
-
Take good care of that burn wound, though.
-
Whew! What a crash, DR MS.... Glad you are with us.
-
We need pictures of the Street Fair Performance and of the meeting of DR MATTH & DR JOSE!!!
-
Off to work.
-
I need to head down now to take the clothes out of the dryer, and then do some folding and putting away of said clothes.
WBBL.
-
I'm up, I'm up. As expected, my scratchy throat made it difficult to sleep - I think I did sleep but I dreamt I was awake so it doesn't feel like I did. I got up at eight-thirty, but fell back asleep and just got up again.
-
If I had some EmergenC I'd drink it, but alas, I do not.
-
Might I just ask where in tarnation IS everyone? You'd think it was a Sunday or something.
-
Jose, I do have a 5:20 appointment at the Genius Bar. The only thing I don't know is whether I actually have to buy the upgrade first and have it with me or if they just do it and charge me there. If anyone knows, let me know, because the lines are huge and I'll have to get there at least a half-hour early.
When I called to make the appointment, which was yesterday around two, I was rather surprised there were no appointments at all last evening, as I thought I'd just walk over there from the Carnegie Deli.
The big question is whether I bring Ye Olde Laptop with me to the street fair. We go on at two-thirty, so I can leave at two-forty-five or so, but to have to come all the way back here then go all the way back to the Apple Store seems weird. If I bring it, then we could grab a bite to eat and I could head over to the Apple Store after that. Then again, do I want my laptop slung over my shoulder for three hours?
-
Will we never get to page three?
-
To Michael S-- You survived for a reason, and I'm glad you did.
To MBarnum, I'm so sorry about your handsome friend.
I caught Diana Dors' appearance at Ciro's last night and then poppped over to the Cocanut Gove for the band's last set. Who knows what today will bring?
Please be careful out there, folks!
-
Kerry, did you get hold of anyone in LA?
-
Sunday just-barely-morning greetings! It's my one-day weekend and I'm trying to motivate myself to do something productive.
DR Michael S - oh, my! Please take care of yourself.
DR Cillaliz - sorry that the rumors you'd heard yesterday turned out to be true.
-
Michael S. your car looks pretty well crunched! I am glad you are ok, and I hope the insurance company of the car that hit you is not Geico
-
Dear HHWers, thank you all for your thoughts and concerns over the very unexpected death of my buddy George. I talked to his mom yesterday to find out what happened and it was indeed a heart problem. George had never told me (which his mom said he rarely told anyone) that he had a heart valve condition, or something like that, for many years. He always had the option for surgery to correct it, but he declined to do that. I don't know why.
But once I knew what happened it was much easier to have my cry and accept it all and now I feel better.
-
Although it is beautiful outside, I think I will sit on my butt all day and catch up on watching some movies.
But first I must run to the store and refill my stock of deluxe mixed nuts.
-
If I haven't said it before, I will say it now...you are a lovely bunch of people here on HHW and I really love you all! :)
-
I shall now be on my way to a street fair, then a bit to eat, then the Apple Store, and then home for the evening.
-
...
But once I knew what happened it was much easier to have my cry and accept it all and now I feel better.
DR MBarnum - thank you for updating us and for this eloquent statement. It's helping me understand the sense of dread I'm feeling right now about 2 of the 3 elders in my life, especially my mother-in-law. Uncertainty is very unnerving.
-
Hello!
Glad to see DR MICHAEL S back with us!!
Glad that DR MBARNUM's grief is lessening.
Sorry to hear about DR CILLALIZ's friend. Coping vibes to CILLALIZ.
Calming vibes to DR GINNY.
-
Regarding coping with losses, I have known families who will not divulge any information after a death, ostensibly for privacy reasons. I am myself a very private person, but this makes no sense to me. It is not just the family that suffers after a loss--friends, acquaintances, and co-workers do as well. As Mike just said, it often helps to know a few of the details.
-
It helps greatly to know the details. In George's case he got up like any other morning, took a shower, got ready for work, then sat on his bed, laid down and was gone. It was likely very quick and his dog scruffy was with him. And it was wonderful to be able to talk with his mom about it.
-
A question for BK regarding the prop situation:
It is not your perogative as to which props are used? I understand that there is a limitation on the cost of the production. Is that the problem here?
-
OH, another DVD release I will most certainly be looking forward to! The Mod Squad: The First Season, Volume One for release on 12/18
-
Throat-healing vibes to BK!!
pronto!
-
Thanks all for the vibes. Bob was a friend, but not a close friend so it's a shock, but not of the same magnitude as DR MBarnum is going through. Continued VIBES to DR MBARNUM~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I'm actually feeling a bit guilty. Bob (this isn't the same Bob that worked with me in the FPD) and I have worked on cases together and have talked many times in the work context, but we didn't socialize out of the work setting. The guilty part is that he did a lot of criminal defense and many high profile cases, one of my first reactions was that there would be more for me now that he won't be doing them. It makes me feel like I'm being terribly selfish, but I couldn't help thinking about that

Thanks DR TCB. The paper this morning said there was no evidence of seat belt use.

I've always felt a bit conflicted about Bob, he was one of the prosecutors in the Leonard Peltier case (Wounded Knee) and I have friends who have been trying to free Leonard for years citing in part the misconduct of the prosecutors. On the other hand, the Bob I knew was very kind, compassionate toward his clients and others and always nice to me.
-
I'm off to meet DH Richard for lunch.
Bye for now.
-
There was a documentary done about the case "Incident at Ogalala; the Leonard Peltier Case" Bob was interviewed and featured in the film. He said he felt very set up by the film makers. They apparently didn't tell him that the film was all a defense of Leonard and he felt the edit wasn't right. That may be true or sour grapes, I don't know. The paper said he was writing a book on the case. I've read Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee and seen the doc, it would have been interesting to read his side of the story in his own words

I would have liked to have read his words concerning the case also. I have always heard from one aspect but never the other. I also saw the documentary and it bothered me a bit. I felt some of the editing was skewed in a such a way that the it made the prosecuters look like the baddies. IMHO, there were problems on both sides of the case. It is still a controversial issue in the Dakotas, where AIM still has a foothold on the reservations. I have actually been acqauinted with distant relations of Leonard Peltier. The surname is very common yet among the Turtle Mountain Ojibway and Metis in northern North Dakota.
Have you read Lakota Woman by Mary Crow Dog, Cilla?

I'm sorry not to be in NYC right now for the festivities... but I'm glad to miss the heat and humidity. Up here at the cabin, it's early autumn, sunny but crisp, lots of cool birds and raccoons...
Glad to hear that the BRAIN is shaping up so nicely, and sorry our Bruce's throat is itchy... major leg-breaking vibes to the splendid cast - have fun out there today at the fair!!! Bruce: Zicam!!!
Okay, so why is Penny NOT in NYC to see the show in a fourth incarnation?? (yes - I went to the first reading, the staged reading, and the full production at LACC...) well, kidz, I am doing a "family version" of Jewish Thighs on Broadway in a little theater in North Bend WA on Sept. 21 and 22 -- with the guy who music directed the very first performances back in March, 2000, and again in some Seattle performances in 2003. I tracked him down in Cape Cod a couple of weeks ago, and he said yes.
I'm sorry to report that the new Bruce Kimmel songs are not yet in the show - what with my BA and MA schedule and Bruce's new novel and a little NYC opening of his own show, well, we never got around to the lead sheets. Trust me, the songs WILL be included in the LA performances next spring!
Vibes to all who have suffered losses, need hugs, need healing... Michael, you were born under a lucky star!
-
Hello PennyO and FJL!
Have a nice day!
-
I'll hit the ol' piano for some vocalizing now, then read through my play to try to remember it, and then - it's out for major weedage and winterizing the garden. The day after my show closes, I'm in the car again, to head down to LA.
-
Hello, Dakota Celt!!! Nice to see you after such a long break...
-
have a lovely day!

Hello to PENNYO!

You also PennyO and enjoy the last lovely days at the cabin before you return to Los Angeles.

Nice to see you around Penny O

Will we never get to page three?
Sure.
-
Hey Penny O! Sorry I missed you.
-
I thought I'd drop by and hang around ehre until I get the call from DR Jose that he is finished with the auditions.
-
There is definitely a face from the HHW past - DR PennyO.
-
This afternoon, I rewatched last week's episode of THE CLOSER in anticipation of its conclusion tomorrow night. Of course, TNT is repeating it tomorrow at 8 leading into the final part, but I didn't know what I might be watching tomorrow at 8.
-
I'm watching Legally Blonde, the movie...Ok, I can't wait to see the musical.
-
I next put in ANNIE (the Kathy Bates/Rob Marshall-directed version). Hadn't seen it in a long time, and it still holds up beautifully. Certainly I miss the numbers which have been omitted, but what's here is nicely performed.
Even though it was shot in 1.33:1 for 4:3 televisions, my upconversion DVD player certainly makes it look very, very good. The color is really vibrant and rich, and it's sharp enough that you can see weave in the fabrics on coats and other clothes.
-
I'm watching Legally Blonde, the movie...Ok, I can't wait to see the musical.
I didn't see it when it first came out. But I had friends who enjoyed it so much and talked it up so much that I bought a used DVD sight unseen, and I was not disappointed. Very entertaining ltitle comedy.
-
I did not mind the movie.

Back from lunch with DH Richard. I'm continuing a bookshelf rearrranging project and am about to take a break to watch:

BK and I came all the way to the Apple Store here on 5th Avenue to post. Why can't all of you find more time in the day to post?
The street fair performance went well - after which we dined at the "Eat Here Now" diner and now we're over here at the Disneyland for adults - the Apple Store.

What an odd way of phrasing it. Either they were wearing their seatbelts or they weren't!
I wonder what happened to the airbags, but perhaps it was an old car.

My life, which is a bit crazed at the moment with a PHI deadline (it's going slow, folks!), will be complicated further tomorrow since I pick up the old band parts for "The Brain" to begin all the adjustments and fixes for next Monday's band rehearsal. It's not a heavy load of changes but I've got a whirlwind week facing me.
All this is essentially an intro to this: come hell or high water, I'm not missing THE CLOSER tomorrow night.
DR MattH, have fun with Jose. I'll bet he knows sleazy spots in Charlotte you never knew existed. Is there a waterfront?

It was a passenger side impact into a tree. So, if it was only front airbags it may not have made much of a difference

All caught up. Need to make some CD's for my students and write some memo's for school and such. Listening to "The Music of Bruce Kimmel" CD, which I always fine delightful.

125 posts at a little before 6, East Coast Time?? Where is everybody?
Sorry I missed PennyO.
Michael S, you have an angel on your shoulder.

I could have sworn that there was a different type of store in Manhattan that was referred to as the Disneyland for Adults!
I think they closed when you left New York,

I'm finally back home and may I just say, PAGE FIVE??? This will NOT do, oh, no, this will not do.
-
I will personally bitch-slap each and every errant and truant hainsie/kimlet who is causing this revoltin' situation, and I shall bitch-slap them from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
I have to back out and get some new batteries for the mouse - I just changed them two weeks ago, but I guess it's been getting a lot of use or I got bad batteries.
-
The Apple Store was ridiculous and my five-twenty appointment was finally met at six-ten. We put Tiger on this here laptop, which took about twenty minutes. He told me that there would be quite a few updates to attend to when I got home, and boy is that the case - I've got about thirty minutes-worth, and then I'm sure we'll have to restart the computer again for the umpteenth time.
-
The streetfair was lightly attended but fun, and our number certainly was the perkiest of those I saw, and the only one with staging, rudimentary as it was.
-
The first two updates are done, but the OSX Tiger updates are going to take - wait for it - an hour. It installed Tiger 10.4.6 and now it's bringing it current to 10.4.10
-
I do hope there's something worth watching on Ye Olde TV tonight.
-
I guess I have plenty of time to go get batteries.
-
Battery of a mouse...
That must be some kind of crime!
-
Lying low this evening...
My allergies really kicked into high gear this afternoon! :(
-
Cilla, indeed that would be a shock to lose someone you know in such a horrific way.

The 1st trumpet in the brass quintet at church this morning gigs in NYC a lot, and I recognized him from the "South Pacific at Carnegie Hall" video [w/Reba and Brian S.M.]. He is quite an attractive fellow!

Batteries have been replaced. I thought dear reader Ben was going to be at the fair, but if he was I certainly didn't seem him. Mr. Craig Brockman was there, as were the folks from NYMF, and I also said hello to Scott Siegel and Jim Morgan of the York Theater, both of whom I'm hoping will see The Brain.

Well, no, he wasn't the only thing I noticed. There were some cute chorus boys, too! ;)

Good Evening!
Back from a day filled with more "Professional Division" Auditions.
:-\
'Nuff said.
There were some good people, just no one Great - and there's usually at least one or two of those. And among the less-than-good people, there's usually one "funny bad" in the bunch - if you get my drift - but not today. Ah, well. Maybe tomorrow. ;)
-
When do you fly back, DR JoseSPiano?
-
And I'm also back from a quite wonderful visit and dinner with DR MattH. I really had a great time finally getting to meet him in person. I did get to see part of his collection of DVDs, and, well... It's quite a collection, and I don't think I even saw half of it.
Then we supped at The Landmark - I think that's what it was called - which turned out to remind me of the many Greek-run diners in NYC. I even ordered one of my diner favorites: sauteed chicken livers. However, one of my side dishes was something I don't think I've ever seen in NYC: stewed okra. It was all quite yummy, and very filling. The portion was huge, and I think I ended up leaving about half of the serving on my plate.
But again, I had a great time chatting with Matt in person after all these years of "chatting" here on the board. Alas, there's no photographic proof of tonight's meeting even though I had even brought my camera with me. So, maybe next year. :)
-
When do you fly back, DR JoseSPiano?
I'm on a 5:00 flight tomorrow, but since it looks like we'll be done by 1:00(!), I may try to go ahead and fly stand-by on an earlier flight.
-
DR Cillaliz - Hmmm... ;)
-
This looks like it could be fun!

DR singdaw - I know the trumpet player you speak of. Well, at least I've looked at him a few times. ;)

...And that book sold at the mini-chain of Joe coffee shops in NYC. -Which happens to be one of the favorite haunts of DR Dan (The Man)'s future "wife", Amy Sedaris. ;D
-
DR Michael S - Good to see you posting. Continued Recovery and Nerve-Easing Vibes To You!!!!!
-
...When I first looked at the title of Today's Notes, I first thought of Sunday in the Park with George, but then realized that:
A puddle of sweat
Right under the tit
Just didn't sound right. ;)
-
bk - From the Too Little, Too Late department...
I would have dropped of my laptop at the Apple Store before the Street Fair, and then picked it up afterwards. -And by then, even some of the upgrades might have been downloaded and installed. In any case...
Glad to know The Brain performance went well.
-
Aren't you having a bit of weather there today, DR Jose?
-
Hi, DR PennyO! Bye, DR PennyO!
-
DR Dan (The Man)'s future "wife", Amy Sedaris.
Not sure what that means, but Amy's book: (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/513NSSVAE3L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-dp-500-arrow,TopRight,45,-64_OU01_AA240_SH20_.jpg)
is very amusing. As are all the books by her brother David, of course!
-
Aren't you having a bit of weather there today, DR Jose?
Nope, none at all. Charlotte is far enough inland that there's been no affect from the sub-tropical storm - isn't that what they're calling it? In fact, it's been an almost cloudless sky all day, and the warmer temps even felt good.
*Of course, since it was 60 degrees in the theatre, it felt good to get outside to defrost. The theatre staff said they had upped the thermostat to 70, but, I guess since there weren't that many people filling the seats, and the people that were in the theatre weren't moving around, even "70" ended up chilling the room.
-

is very amusing. As are all the books by her brother David, of course!
And, in fact, Ms. Sedaris sometimes drops off her baked goods at Joe in the West Village to be sold and consumed.
Oh, that's right, Amy was/is DR Dan (the Man)'s girlfriend, not his wife. ;)
-
DR Cillaliz I"m also very sorry to hear about your lawyer friend.

Guess I'll have some ice cream and flip around the dial.

Ooohhh.... Ice cream. Hmm...
*We did not have dessert at the restaurant, so....

The late Kitty Carlisle Hart is in that one.

I might have to go watch SOUTH PACIFIC, but I don't think I have a first trumpet player to watch it with; nor are Reba or Brian in my house. . .
-
Well, I am glad to know that you are just married, and not dead.
Funny that you should mention that, DR TCB - today marks the 17th anniversary of DH's and my union ceremony. And 2007 marks 20 years of cohabitation.
We are celebrating by having him play church this morning, a recording session in NYC this afternoon, and a Rosh Hashana rehearsal this evening. :)

Can someone at least Lend You a Tenor?
-
Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
-
I have NOT been errant or truant today.
I've popped in because I had a very trying day at work.
Last night's closer was lazy, lazy, LAZY - didn't do three-fourths of the closing sidework, nor do she do anything which would help a morning opener.
She used all of the sliced lemons and didn't bother to slice another bowl full.
She left the 1000 Island dressing container one quarter of the way full, with a note on the gallon of 1000 Island saying NOT to fill the dressing until the bottle was empty and washed; rather than emptying the 1/4, washing the dispenser and then re-filling it which would have taken about the same amount of time it took to write the note. . .
Being the manager on duty as well as the server, I did the double work, doubled thanks to that server.
By 11:30, the bartender on duty still hadn't shown up. Not a soul could reach her, including her mentor - our owner. So, I then had a bar to set up - a half and hour AFTER opening, and I'm not a mixologist and barely know where most of the liquors are kept behind the bar, nor could I readily mix up a cocktail unless it was definitely two parts mixer to one part alcohol.
Phone tag was played with the owner, calling to see if the bartender had arrived or called, but to no avail. I had got a call through to the second shift server, and she agreed to come in two hours early and bartend for three hours, even though she had never bartended before (but it was part of the owner's plan to get her into bartending).
So, then, I was a little stressed; the owner was a lot stressed, since the no-call/no-show bartender was his protegee, the chef was stewing about the lack of employee commitment, other than one or two of us.
All of this on a Steeler Game Sunday!

You cohabbed for three years before you unionized???

-

Yes. We were living in sin! :o
:)
-
Send in the baritones, too.
And the clowns. :D
Sorry you had such a stressful day, DR td. No one deserves that!
-
Yes. We were living in sin! :o
:)
I have never lived in sin. I always kicked them out before breakfast!
-
Yes, it's true I was not at the Street Fair. I slept through it. Since I'm working overtime I come home from Saturday exhausted and it takes a while to catch up. I laid down for a nap and didn't wake up until 2:30. Since I'm on W. 16th Street and the Street Fair was on 3rd Avenue on the Upper East Side there was no way I would get anywhere near the place in time.
Oh, well. I did, at least, get fully tickted for 3 shows playing at a Theatre Festival here in town. Some of you may have heard of it. It's often referred to as NYMF ;)
The Brain from Planet X - Sunday, September 30 at 8pm (along with half the living Hainsies and Kimmlets)
Such Good Friends - Wednesday, October 3 at 8pm
The Last Starfighter- Saturday, October 6 at 9pm
and now it's time to go to bed. 5:30am comes awfully early, even when you've had an unexpected afternoon nap.
-
Perhaps, td, you need a massage! ;) ;) ;)
DR TCB - P-L-E-A-S-E give me a massage - with your good arm. ;)
-
I have never lived in sin. I always kicked them out before breakfast!
Most of the time, I made them buy or cook my breakfast!
-
I can't seem to get interested in anything on TV
-
So I'm listening to music.
-
So I'm listening to music.
Are you listening to a bossa nova?
-
Did you ever hear from the truant bartender? There could have been an automobile accident.
-
Well, it's Sunday night. That means time to take out the trash and the recycling!
Such an exciting life I lead.
-
bk - New season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" starts tonight at 10:00 on HBO. -And the new series "Tell Me You Love Me" just started at 9:00. And, the VMAs on MTV just started too - You can catch Britney Spear's "comeback". ;)
-
Did you ever hear from the truant bartender? There could have been an automobile accident.
No, we didn't hear from her. Funny thing is, her date didn't hear from her either - he showed up for their assignation.
-
So I'm listening to music.
bk, if your apartment has cable television or a dish network, be sure to check out the digital music channels! There may even be an exclusive Bossa Nova channel!
-
The Brain from Planet X - Sunday, September 30 at 8pm (along with half the living Hainsies and Kimmlets)
Thanks for reminding me what I will be missing!

From Jose:
I did talk to the head of SETC and the head of the Graduate School committee, and it looks like I may be composing some sort of open letter to the students and to the schools sometime in the very near future addressing the concerns that I - and others - had after today's session.
Knowing you, that was going to be my next question, if you planned to do something like this.
-
Are we STILL on page seven?
-
Sadly, no HBO here.
-
Music is on shuffle play - so a veritible potpourri.
-
Will we never get to page eight?
-
I passed by a cinema showing La Vie En Rose - I may try to catch it this week.
-
I have widgets.
-
I did get to see part of his collection of DVDs, and, well... It's quite a collection, and I don't think I even saw half of it.
I would be shocked if you didn't say it is quite a collection. ;D
-
EIGHT- THe Hard way
-
Well, when they said that the new HBO series would be "revealing" and "frank", they were right. -And that's only been the first half hour.
-
I fear-still a long way to Eight.
And is Eight Enough?
-
Happy Anniversary to Singdaw and his husband.
-
Not sure what that means, but Amy's book: (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/513NSSVAE3L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-dp-500-arrow,TopRight,45,-64_OU01_AA240_SH20_.jpg)
is very amusing. As are all the books by her brother David, of course!
Oh, am I slow. I just figured out who her brother is. I only read one of his books & found him delightfully funny.
-
We need a concerted effort from all.
-
A Sunday Sundry lull
-
And BK-How did Craig look?
-
Only 3 more to the page turn!
-
Craig is coming to Florida the week after next so I will see him in person
-
3 to Go- Let us PUSH !!
-
This maybe should do it
-
E-I-G-H-T
-
Michael S, I am so glad you are ok and don’t look like your car. How did you get your arm burned, from the air bag? Were you wearing a seat belt?
How do you feel?
-
Hi Arnold Brockman. Our youngest son, Craig, is currently getting his graduate degree at your alma matter, Carnegie-Mellon.
-
Yes-Michael S.
We need a complete up-date on your Physical and Mental Condition
-
Jane-
That's Great. What is he getting his Master's Degree in?
-
Cilla your thoughts regarding your colleague are natural. Of course you would undo the tragedy if you could. Facts are facts and can’t be changed & it is only natural to think of what comes next, in this case you might be busy with
more work.
-
Excuse me -Graduate Degree
-
Government Policy. After traveling extensively through Europe & his two years in Romania with the Peace Corps he wants to make a difference. Eventually he hopes to represent our government, in a positive way, overseas.
-
Craig looked fine.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
-
Love and Death is on now - very funny, but I've seen it too many times.
-
Jane-
That's great about Craig.
I wish him the best of luck.
You should be very proud
-
It will be a Master's degree when he is done. He is in an accelerated program from May to May, instead of the regular two years. They took into account his Peace Corp & job experiences in Romania. As his parents it's nice to know the extra two years he lived there were to some benefit.
-
We are, and like you we have great taste in names.
-
NINE-THE MUSICAL
-
Is Craig as handsome as Keith?
-
Yes thank you. And heads always turn when Bryan walks by.
-
We had a long conversation with Bryan tonight. I always knew applying to medical schools wasn't easy, I had no idea how difficult & time consuming it is. Often people don't get accepted the first time around & reapply the next year before getting accepted. Going through this process with him has been a great experience for us, and very frustrating at times.
-
I had it nice and chilled in here when I got home, but turned off the air two hours ago, and now it's too darn hot - but I'm trying to protect my throat, which isn't as bad as yesterday, but I'd like to cut this thing off at the pass.
-
I think I'll flip around the tele -
-
Bruce will it bother your throat to set the air at a warmer temp, just enough to keep from being too hot. You want to be comfortable enough to sleep.
Feel better.
-
MBarnum, I’m sure it was also good for George’s mother to talk to you.
Singdaw, congratulations on 20 years!
-
Jane-
What Medical Schools is Bryan applying to?
-
BK-
Are you gargling?
-
bk - Sounds like you may be dealing with some allergies. I know mine kicked in a bit this past week - as it did for a lot of others. That post-nasal drip can be truly annoying.
As for Emergen-C - You can buy individual packets at Whole Foods and Westerly Market.
-
DR singdaw - Congrats to you and your DH for your 20 years of living in sin! ;D
-
I Spy DR MusicGuy.
-
And I do believe that we are close
Nein Nein
Ja ja
-
Congrats DR Singdaw and hubby!!! :D
-
Is this it?
-
Musicguy? Do we know a Musicguy?
-
'TIS
-
Well, hello dear DR Jose, and all of the studlies and lovelies here today. Yes, I have given E & T an entire new meaning, but I'm still in the process of settling in to my new house..... or put another way, "....let's see, now which box did I put that in??..."
But I'm just not going to try to get it all done at once. I plug away each day, and manage a little progress. I am at least typing from my new desk !! It took me 4 weeks to find one that was the right dimensions, and that I also liked the looks of. It is comfortable at which to sit, and has quite a bit of storage also.
-
Dear DR Mikey.....thank you very much for your sweet housewarming card. It was very appreciated!! :)
-
Music Guy-
Is it Your back?
Or is it Bach?
-
You are most welcome Musicguy! And I hope you will snap some shots of your humble home at some point!
-
Music Guy-
Is it Your back?
Or is it Bach?
Definitely, I'm back......no allusions to being Bach. :o
-
Has Bk stepped away? I am trying to avoid the bitchslapping he promised we E & T types
-
We have been dejunking the house.... it may take years
-
I'm afraid that I am way past just a "bitch-slap !"
But I leave a big hug, "break-a-leg," continued success, and a wet kiss with tongue, for dear Esteemed, swarthy, sweaty, and productive BK...
-
But now, some food must be eaten. So, ta ta for now lovelies.
-
*I did a bit of catchingup...

My condolences on the loss of your former colleague....

And now I believe I am going to pack my bag for my return trip to NYC tomorrow. If we are indeed done by 1:00, I'm going to see about flying stand-by on the 2:30 flight back to NYC. And if not, well... I'll at least have my laptop with me, so...

Happy Anniversary Vibes for SingSong and Hubby

DR td - I am shocked at the goings on that went on....or didn't go on, as the case may be.
-
Arnold, Bryan is applying to 22 schools. U of Pitt, NY, Boston, Einstein, USC, Jefferson, Columbia, to name a few. He has a a fairly good range of schools & hopefully at least one will like him. There are sites to follow applicants process & often it's a surprise an application didn't get accepted at a top school & at times equally surprising they did.
-
Many Happy, HAPPY wishes to SR Singdaw and his wonderful mate!
-
DR td - I am shocked at the goings on that went on....or didn't go on, as the case may be.
Me, I was pretty much dumbstruck. And it takes a lot to strike me dumb.
-
University of Arizona in Tucson has a medical school, too.
-
Jrand, you sly fox, you - check your private messages. ;)
-
Arizona isn't on his list. I have no idea why. I do know he doesn't like hot weather at all.
-
Jrand, you sly fox, you - check your private messages. ;)
No you check YOURS! ;D
-
Good evening. Thanks all for the comments. I know my mixed feelings are natural, it's just nice to hear someone else say that. Tomorrow I am anxious to hear when services are so I can try to adjust my schedule. I'm sure that won't be a problem. Bob was very well regarded in the community and I'm sure eveyone I would need to talk to about rescheduling things will be there too
-
DR JENNIFER
I watched BB and then checked up on the feeds. Ok, no more yanking your chain...I do think that Dick and Danielle will probably win, unless Zach can win HOH again, but they were terrible this week. I don't really want to see them win, but I have a feeling one or the other will.
-
I enjoyed Design Star tonight. I am cheering for Kim
-
Jane-
Good Luck to Bryan
-
School vibes for SOJ&K - Bryan.

I'm now in the middle of watching the documentary on Iraq War vets on HBO, "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq". Very sobering. Very inspirational. Very moving.

VIBES TO BRYAN~~~~~~~~~
Not knowing what is next is really difficult
-
And in other news, I just checked in with United and USAirways, and it turns out there's plenty of room on the earlier flights tomorrow, so I should be able to get back to NYC sooner rather than later. :)
-
Hope that works out for you Jose.

TRAVEL VIBES TO DR JOSE~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Boys, Boys, Boys... You're both pretty.
Not near as pretty as you. . .
(at first I thought you wrote that we were both PETTY). :o
-
Are we STILL on page seven?
You were, but it's long gone by now.
-
That, too.
DR td your - uh - in box is full.
-
Will we never get to page eight?
Soon.
-
I had a marvelous time talking and talking and talking with DR Jose. And I enjoyed dinner very much, too. Yes, the Landmark, which I hadn't been to in years. Still the same place as much as I could see.
And might I add that I am very jealous of you New Yorkers who get to experience DR Jose's wit and charm and smile every day. Some folks have all the luck.
-
Oh, and thanks to DR der Brucer for the link.
-
I didn't think about taking any pictrues either. But it's probably a mercy since Jose ddoesn't need to have to worry about buying a new camera phone after my picture would surely damage it.
-
When I got in from taking DR Jose back to his hotel (well, I got close to it; the best I could do), I put in season two of THE CLOSER and watched the two part season ender. Just as enjoyable as always, and it impressed me this time about how GREAT it looked upconverted to near-HD. I'm not sure I had notcied before how good it can look even though it isn't an HD transfer.
-
I also watched the first episode on the last disc in THE CLOSER set, the one with the teenage boy killed and a convicted killer wanting to get out of prison.
-
Next I watched the first fifteen minutes of THE CANTERVILLE GHOST which I had recorded off TCM tonight. I thought I had seen it before (or at least parts of it), but I certainly hadn't seen the first part of it.
The print looks astounding, BTW. WOnder is Warners is getting ready to release this on DVD. Really looked sharp and with gorgeous grayscale.
-
And I ended the evening with DAMAGES which I missed last Tuesday when my cable was on the fritz (a CLOSER reference).
Excellent episode with several big surprises and some great drama. And I did see the preveiws for the episode coming up on Tuesday, and it REALLY looked explosive.
-
I'm so jealous!
Everyone has got to meet Jose except me! And I've even been in NYC once or twice! :'(
-
Exhausted, I am.
I’ve finished two of three submissions for awards given to musical theatre writers. They’ve yet to be mailed, but the postmark deadline is 9/15 (the one not done yet is 9/17), so I’m somewhat ahead. The two today are the longest of long-shots, but this year I’ve added confidence since my libretto’s been gone over so many times by an amazing young director who sweats every detail. That’s a bonus. Winners won’t be announced before May.
And then there are the score chores. In recent weeks, my director, my musical director and I pored over all the Such Good Friends music, coming up with little ways to improve everything: accompaniment figures, cues, intros and play-offs, scene change music, scenic underscoring, dance music; even the voicing of chords. I’m now listening to tapes of ten hours of meetings, and making all sorts of changes. Today I got through number #6, so I’m not even a quarter of the way there.
The only time I left this desk was for a production meeting. The mistress of the props has a great attitude: “Just point me towards a junk yard and I’ll find whatever you need.”
-
It is most unseemly that we're still on PAGE TEN.
-
~~~Score Chores Vibes to DR Noel~~~
Oooh! I pushed us onto Page Eleven! ;D
Good night!
-
Well... I'm my bag is packed - well, almost... And, thankfully, I'm actually sleepy already. Sleep is good.
-
Well all caught up and now I must to bed
Good night ALL!!!!
-
I did finish watching "Alive Day Memories"... I found myself crying during every segment...
BRING OUR TROOPS HOME.
-
Time for to go to bed.
-
Well, I think we have about 80 people tomorrow, and then I'm heading to the airport. It will be nice to get home sooner rather than later. The extra time home tomorrow night will come in handy for some practicing. *And I may even be able to head down to Splash too for Musical Mondays. ;) In any case...
Goodnight.
-
Now that I've called it a day, I think I must be calling it a night.
-
All caught up, so much to say, but right now I'm tired.
-
Notes are written and posted, and now I'll change the topic.
