Well, you've read the notes, the notes were perfunctory, which is all I could muster, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're all coming to New York to see The Brain.

Mystery Boy in Iron Coffin Identified
By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID,

Posted: 2007-09-20 21:50:59
WASHINGTON (Sept. 20) - Researchers have solved the mystery of the boy in the iron coffin.
The cast-iron coffin was discovered by utility workers in Washington two years ago. Smithsonian scientists led by forensic anthropologist Doug Owsley set about trying to determine who was buried in it, so the body could be placed in a new, properly marked grave.
The body was that of 15-year-old William Taylor White, who died in 1852 and was buried in the Columbia College cemetery, they announced Thursday.
"The mystery of this young boy's life and a strong sense of responsibility to properly identify him kept me and the entire team focused and determined. This was not a one-person project. It took more than three dozen people nearly two years to make the ID," Deborah Hull-Walski, an anthropologist at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, said in a statement.

Shucks, BONES would have had an ID in a day!

Driving cross country with five dogs, and we did not need to make one doggie-only pit stop; (and they all stayed quietly in the motel rooms, to boot!) - we even got away with leaving them in the car when we went to eat (always found a Coffee shop where we could park the car and see it from a window booth.) The only place they were a bit of a problem was the Grand Canyon - the smells in those woods were irresistible; there was much leash tugging and reluctance to go back to the car.

Now they probably moved ROLLER DERBY from St. Clements Church to the Alley Dance Theatre because they needed a large stage for all the roller skating that goes on. That's all well and good.
But the show runs a full 2.5 hours and that running time, coupled with an irritating 20 minute delay to get all patrons seated, meant that we had to sit for three hours on the most uncomfortable theatre seats in New York City. Horrible seats. Inadequate leg room; inadequate tushie room. Hard small miserable seats.
A couple left during the first act; many more at intermission. Wish I could blame the seats, but the show itself probably sent them packing.

Good morning, all! I was going to sleep later but I had a phone call from my beloved sister-in-law Jo and I figured it was time. The party at Angus was indeed fantastic: I got to meet the beautiful Naomi Kakuk's new husband - I said to her, "when BK told me you had gone to a wedding, I thought you were attending one!" - some friends of Merrill Grant's from Indianapolis, assorted boyfriends, girlfriends, and family of the cast and musicians. My young friend Nicholas Stimler, who's been assisting Jeff Calhoun on all the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL productions as well as WHITE CHRISTMAS, was one of my guests last night, and I'm encouraging him to ask our beautiful dance assistant Cassie out.
Nick, Jose, Cassie, and I waited with Erin (I love her!) and Natalie, our rehearsal pianist, at the stage door, and then we learned that the actors were coming out through the theatre so we all ran back to the lobby to see if anyone was still there. Then all walked to Angus' and on the way we picked up a few of the actors we'd missed - Steven, Denise, Joe - and went to partay! BJ and Cason arrived later because they decided to stop at theirr digs on the way. It was all quite a festive event. I really love this production and the company, and I was happy to see the musicians get such nice credits in the program.
BK, until you mentioned it in your notes, I had no idea the first act was playing longer that usual.
Today, I have to deal with a real estate proposal, the NY State Dept of Motor Vehicles to insure myself that all matters pertaining to my (former) car have been resolved, a bit of editing, perhaps the NYPL, and a little dinner before the show with friends from the Library of Congress.

The oddest thing happened - 3DDiffusion went over to the FSM board, where, if I correctly read his response here, he posted in the thread that I'd begun about Robinson Crusoe On Mars. I didn't know it was him (if it was him) and it did look to me like the guy who was muddying waters again had created yet another username to clap himself on the back (he has at least one besides his own). He came back after my post and said he'd come from here, and then I asked who it was and he responded here. But he somehow found my behavior in that thread somehow "off", which I'm here to tell you, wasn't, especially as there is some history with this guy Ron calls St. David, and he's done this sort of thing before (say other composers have ghostwritten parts of a score for someone else) - while the latter is, of course, true (it does happen), when the supposed ghostwriters are using nothing but the original composer's thematic material, then it's arranging and orchestrating, not composing original music. When this is pointed out to this guy, he just ignores it. Anyway, apparently things got nasty over there last night between Ron (who didn't know who it was) and "altamese" which, as I said, if I read what was posted here, is 3DDiffusion.
Weird, and especially weird as I still hold that I did nothing that was offensive other than tell the thread hijacker that everyone could see what was going on. Never called him a name, never berated him, in fact went out of my way to say that I would not do so because of a previous thread where this guy went off his rocker. This current thread was deleted from existence by the owner of the FSM board because HE could see what was at play and, frankly, has had it with this raging egomaniac. He knew I was being good and not fanning flames, but merely responding with one-liners that merely said things like "I'm just sitting here, smiling and saying nothing," while the raging egomaniac made posts twelve paragraphs long, filled with paranoia and weirdness.
-
Dear Esteemed, rested, well-produced, creative, and flirtatious BK --
Congrats on what sounds like a damned good opening night. I think you were right when you said that you may be too close to the production to really know how well it played last night.

BK-
CONGRATS ON WHAT SEEMS TO BE A "BRAINY" SUCCESS
-
I can sympathize with the actors going through a run through before giving an operning night performance for THE BRAIN.
When I did SHENANDOAH, we still had "It's a Boy" to be choreographed and learn on the day we opened. We came in at 6 p.m., were taught the dance, did it twice all the way through, and then performed it in the show as a whole that night. I felt like I was dancing on egg shells during that number hoping I'd remember everything. Thankfully, all of us playing brothers were trained dancers so we could pick up the steps quickly and retain it, but I never want to be put in that position ever again.
As for ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, the choreographer changed the "Spanish Panic" the night we were going to open, so again, we came in early, got the new section, and then did it that night before a paying audience. That was also the show that we never ran all the way through without stopping until we did it on opening night. A nightmare!
-

I had a message from the potential client today. They can't come up with the funds to hire me but were very appreciative of everything I explained during our meeting yesterday. I'm really not surprised, although it would have been great to be involved in the case.
It was a marijuana growing operation, the government seized over 4100 plants in various locations, the government has also seized their assets including their home, business and I'm assuming their bank accounts.
In a way this is a relief. I need today and the weekend to catch up at the office, unwind and get organized.

Regarding the FSM brouhahah BK addressed earlier:
YEs, I was having a go-round with the poster known as "altamese". The center of debate is a poster who, for the second time in recent months, decided to assign "credit" for a score to additional personages other than the one credited. While this may or may not be the case, this individual could not offer anything other than his word for it. And as fine a producer of film score recreations as he is, he is not an infallible font of information about whether someone's contributions to a score merit "credit" alongside the credited composer's. At any rate, in a series of posts, he worked himself up to a multi-pragraphed ode to himself. In this, his 7th post to the thread, he made a bid for martyrdom, lit a self-built pyre and seemingly self-immolated, all the while proclaiming that the subject was about the "music" at hand, not himself who was so wrongly being attacked. It was in this thread that he distinctly declared that a second composer OUGHT to have been credited alongside the credited composer. In film music, this is a HUGE statement. It is, in effect, the same thing as saying that the uncredited composer was robbed of his due.
After a couple of other responses, I entered the fray, commenting I was bemused and referred to him as "Saint David" (first name of this individual is David). I suggested that his post was Saint David's way of sticking his tongue out at us. I then added some cogent suggestions for how he should proceed if he wanted folks to believe his assertions that an uncredited composer should have received credit.
Yesterday, altamese began chiding me for my nasty comments ("Saint David" is the ONLY name-calling, if one wants to call it that, I indulged in), expressed displeasure with my "tongue sticking out" comment, and said I was putting words in this man's mouth...that he never said anything like what I said he said.
Turns out, altamese declared that "Saint David" (she did not use that term) NEVER said anything like that in his initial post. Further, altamese declared that BK and I had been cutting down Saint David from his first post.
I took serious issue with altamese over this. Of course, that degenerated the discussion into a pissing contest. My entry into the thread was on page 2 (50-plus posts into the thread, if I'm not mistaken). And I had to point out that the comments I objected to were in the 7th post Saint David made, not the preceding ones which, as BK pointed out, spoke for themselves in view of previous threads.
Now I can truly see how someone stumbling across this thread might react to seeing one poster being the recipient of many negative responses. I can truly understand how they might be motivated to enter the fray and stand up to what he or she perceives to be an unusual amount of negativism toward that one person. But, when not only several forum members BUT ALSO the forum's owner and moderator indicate their own scepticism toward this one poster, it would seem to me logical that the newcomer should reassess taking any stance until he or she learns more about what is going on.
At any rate, I regret NOT ONE WORD I posted to that thread. Other than the snarky "Saint David" reference, which was an honest reaction to that self-serving seventh post but something I should probably have refrained from saying, I stand by my every reaction to his posts and responses to same.

Only, I can't seem to master the genre. I do enjoy reading it from others as long as I'm not the target! ::)

Now I'm heading down so I can clean up to run my usual Friday errands.
WBBL.
-
Just to add one more thing - I have many times been accused of being, well, let's put it kindly, a curmudgeon on that board. And sometimes it's been true, although not without cause. More often than not, it's not true and it's the same five people doing the accusing even though when I ask them to quote one instance of my terrible behavior they cannot do it. They just ignore it and continue their mantra. Fortunately, the board owner knows what's going on as does the moderator. It took the latter a while to see it, but see it he has because with this particular guy it got so bloody obvious.
Unfortunately, what no one really knows is that the martyr in question has an agenda with someone other than me, but he somehow thinks I'm tied into it - he's wrong, he's apologized to me privately for insinuating that I was tied into it, but continues down this paranoid road publicly. If I printed this man's insane e-mails to me or if I finally tell everyone what this is really about and how nuts this guy really is, it will all become very clear to everyone just what is going on.
-
The oddest thing happened - 3DDiffusion went over to the FSM board, where, if I correctly read his response here, he posted in the thread that I'd begun about Robinson Crusoe On Mars. I didn't know it was him (if it was him) and it did look to me like the guy who was muddying waters again had created yet another username to clap himself on the back (he has at least one besides his own).
Yes it was me, and I am a woman, not a man, Bruce, and in my opinion you were out of line there. And I thought you'd already responded to me about this a couple of days ago.
I'd repost the entire thread over there - I have it from your initial post to that of someone named Howard L., who posted at 3 am on Sept 19, but I see no point in doing so, because as you've just demonstrated, you dont' think you were out of line. .... and as my argument over there with Ron showed, he didnt' think he was out of line either when he clearly was - in my opinion.
As with my disagreement with Ron, we will just have to agree to disagree because there's no point saying "Yes you were, no I wasn't" for five interminable pages.
But I will say that as someone coming fresh to that thread, the guy in no way tried to hijack the thread. I appreciate you've had some history with him and he apparently likes to show off his knowledge...well, so what? Isnt' that what message boards are for?
-
Well, the snarky-may-care attitude is something, I guess, one is born with. It's not for everyone.
But then, some folks can sing and dance up a storm. The rest of us....well.....
And then there are those with twinkling fingers who turn pianos into symphonies....
And "creative souls" who turn notes into dazzling, sonorous flights of fancy...
Sigh.
-
All that said, I have always enjoyed 3DDiffusions posts here and hope that this will not cause problems HERE. And IS 3DDiffusion a she? I was pretty certain it was a he.
-
And I regret nothing either. You said that MMM had said that Steiner ROBBED Van Cleave of credit. I said he didnt'.
You then admitted that you had used "hyperbole" - that the word "ROBBED" - in all caps - was your own.
Frankly, newcomers to that thread, or to the boards, who read that thread, would have had sympathy for MMM just as I did.
-
I did get my ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS/MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS combo DVD set yesterday as well as some Blu-ray discs, and no time to watch very many of them at the moment. Very frustrating.
After I finish with 3 PENNY OPERA today, I have to start right in on MARTHA GRAHAM ON FILM, and I'm expecting the WHAT ABOUT BRIAN TV box set either today or tomorrow, too. Whew!
I Just got ANNE/MARY and the transfers look pretty terrific to me
-
All that said, I have always enjoyed 3DDiffusions posts here and hope that this will not cause problems HERE. And IS 3DDiffusion a she? I was pretty certain it was a he.
I don't see why it would have caused problems here if you hadn't brought it up here. Now I'm a bit annoyed.
-
I kind of like having bk on EST. Perhaps he can be persuaded to stay in NYC? :)
-
I have no problem with people showing off their knowledge - I have problems with people touting knowledge without providing facts, and furthermore I have REAL problems when someone else does post something factual that belies what the person showing off his "knowledge" has said and then that person simply ignores those posts and keeps posting his obviously faulty assumptions. This happened in a different thread, which became legendary.
However, yes, we can agree to disagree because I was in no way "out of line" and I went out of my way to not be out of line, something I now regret. Even though it was obvious to anyone who was aware of the previous Waxman thread what Mr. Schecter was doing, I merely said I wouldn't post and that everyone could just imagine what I would have posted had I wished to go there. I stated clearly that it was in the interest of keeping the board harmonious. After that, I simply responded to what was being thrown my way, and I STILL never went after him because he was doing such a good job of making himself look like a twit. Lukas Kendall, the owner of the board, saw exactly what was going on and tried to stop it as did his moderator.
So, I will respectfully disagree that I was out of line and I'm sorry that you read that into what I posted. But, like Ron, I regret only that I wasn't stronger when Mr. Schecter went off his rocker. The always-amusing thing is that it's seemingly fine for this guy to attack and have his alter-egos come on and defend him and attack anyone else who happens to see through his line of BS - that's perfectly peachy - not to me, baby, not to me.
-
I don't see why it would have caused problems here if you hadn't brought it up here. Now I'm a bit annoyed.
I brought it up as I found the whole thing decidedly odd. No reason to be annoyed about anything and let's all just move on now. It's obvious that you read into posts things that certainly were not meant by me, and that's all fine and dandy.
-
The always-amusing thing is that it's seemingly fine for this guy to attack and have his alter-egos come on and defend him and attack anyone else who happens to see through his line of BS - that's perfectly peachy - not to me, baby, not to me.
Again, I don't see it that way - especially since MMM was on the defensive from his second post onward and not attacking anyone.
And if Scifiman was his altar ego he could have used a better choice!
But let's just agree to disagree.
-
I'm still groggy. Am calling dear reader Jose to see if we're doing mac and cheese or even West Side Cottage for yummilicious Chinese food.
-
I might get a DVD to watch during my three days off, although I shall be spending those three days dealing with the fundraiser and casting same.
-
I was paraphrasing MMM's assertion that Steiner deserved credit alongside Van Cleave. I did NOT say Steiner robbed anyone of anything. Look at the single post...repost it , alone, here verbatim...and things ought to sort out. I said MMM declared Steiner was ROBBED of credit....that's my "hysperbole"...the use of the word robbed in place of "deserved". It's poetic license for gosh sake!
See, to me, I dislike paraphrasing in these instances. When you're trying to criticize what a guy says - you quote him exactly. Thats all I'm saying.
See...now we're going to have three pages of he said, she said here now, covering the same ground we did there!
I shall go away and not come back until a couple hundred posts have set these into the distance....
-
Nah, we're done with it now - let's talk about THE BRAIN!
-
Again, I don't see it that way - especially since MMM was on the defensive from his second post onward and not attacking anyone.
And if Scifiman was his altar ego he could have used a better choice!
But let's just agree to disagree.
There is no question scimusicman is his alter-ego - but you'd have to know the history to know why it's so obvious. :)
And yes, let's agree to disagree. Or, conversely, let's disagree to agree.

CD: What else? THE BRAIN, of course!

My laundry is done, but I'll need to run errands soon. My Other Life does get in the way of my HHW fun more than I'd like. sigh.
-
In other news, well.. I attempted to catch up on last night's posts, but since my eyelids were getting rather heavy... Well... I shall try to catch up this afternoon. I hope.
In any case, I slept in a bit this morning, and the first thing I made sure to do when I got out of bed was to sort the contents of my laundry hamper, and then take them up the street to the laundromat. I didn't take up as many front-loaders as I thought I would, so that was nice, and now the three large loads of clothes are spinning away in the dryers. And those should be done in about 20 minutes - give or take another quarter or two.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR DEARREADERLAURA!!!!!!

Alas, one of this afternoon's other chores will be cleaning the bathroom. Well, the shower stall at least. I did manage to get the drain unclogged last night - there was lots of plunging going on. However, some of the "stuff" that came back up through drain, well.... It was too late and I was too tired last night to clean up last night, so... -Thankfully, there's another full bath upstairs here, so no one was really inconvenienced this morning.

Thank you, thank you, dear Ginny - did I hear you had a loss this week? Honey, I'm so sorry.
-
I'm here, winterizing the house, packing the car, blahblahblah - I drain the pipes and leave tomorrow before the show - stay over night in North Bend, and hit the road for LA first thing Sunday morning.
-
Yes, it was wonderful to FINALLY hear the expected glowing reports.
Quite a trial wading through the nervous gratuities of vixmom and DakotaCelt and Miss Karen, all demanding someone tell them what had happened/how it went.
;D
Poor Mr. P -- it's so rough being a guy here at HHW and putting up with us silly gals -- if I could I would post a picture of the teeny, tiny little bitty violin that is atop my thumb playing a dramatic sympathy tune (it's so tiny I can't quite make out the song -- but it would bring tears to your eyes, trust me..)
-
I wanna go to West Side Cottage! Sept. 29 cannot come soon enough - DH Richard and I really need a week in NYC.
Back from my errands! I think, since the bus motor was so loud that I could hardly hear, that DR Adriana Patti invited me to lunch this afternoon. I alas had to turn down such an invite because I have to plot out this Plaza Hotel arrangement for it to be played on Sunday for the conductor and a taping to be used to plan the fireworks. However, I am totally available tomorrow after 1 pm!
Perhaps we can plan something tomorrow at the show tonight?
-
Ron! Ginny! Karen!!! Good morning, my DRs!!
Top of the mornin' to you, PennyO!!

My sister Rikki leaves Wednesday morning for Hawaii for the wedding of her best friend's daughter - and I gotta be there to dawg sit...

I may not be physically at the shows this week - but I have sent friends to see Brain and Starfighter - got a couple of very good pals going to tonight's show... One is David, with whom I began the BMI Lehman Engel Music Theater Writer's Workshop about thirty years ago. He is now one of the teachers there. He knows Skip and Fred, knows OF BK... he recently met Merrill - fell in love with her!!! - so he's looking forward to seeing this play.
-
Must run - lotsa stuff to do, before I grab my iron and head over to the theater. Have a good day, kidz.
-
Thanks, DR PennyO - one foot in front of the other, huh?

Yo! Penny-O!
No sooner do you pop on and frenzy but you pop off, too? Leaving us all wanting more?

Break a leg to Penny on that most wonderful show, it is another version of Jewish Thighs, correct?

So, will any New Yorkers be attending the Broadway Cares Flea Market in Shubert Alley and on W.44th Street on Sunday? Warning, it can get very crowded, especially in Shubert Alley but it's still fun. I will be there probably after 11am (it goes from 10am-7pm). I have friends who work the fair and I want to say hello to them before I see them in December during the Falat Holiday Gift Bag packing. I also like to browse the tables and if I can find anything like a CD I don't have (yeah, just what I need, more CDs).
Anyway, I gotta get back to work.
Later, gaters.

Good Afternoon!
The laundry is all dried and folded, and I guess I'll put it all away sometime today. ;)
In the meantime, I stopped at little bodega up the street and got a cheesesteak for lunch. -I just felt like indulging. -Of course, when do I not feel like in indulging. In any case... The sandwich was quite good, and at only $3.75 quite a bargain too.
The next thing on my list - even before I put my clothes away - is the bathroom. It just has to be done. Thankfully, it shouldn't take too long.
-
Break A Leg, Penny!!!
-
Show vibes to all that need them.
It was probably nowhere near as glamorous as The Brain's opening, but I played the grand opening of the first ever Portland Latin American Film Festival last night at this cool little club/theater complex in downtown Portland (on 10th & Stark, a corner you can frequently find MBarnum hanging out on ;D). There were so many people there they had to open sliding glass doors and the party spilled out onto the street. It was kind of cool, if I do say so myself. Some extremely drunk lady came up and wanted to sing some Jobim song I've never heard of (which is a virtual impossibility). Her equally drunk husband grabbed the guitarist's guitar out of his hands and started strumming chords, proffering the neck at me as if I would instantly be able to decipher what he was playing. I'd rather use my ears. :D

Now I think I'll scrounge up some lunch, as that bowl of Cherrios was a LONG time ago.

Nadia just came...and left. She was quickly going through some things in her desk and forgot she had all her family photos on her desk. So I found her a bag for them, wished her the best, gave her the check and she bolted pretty quickly.

Apologies, Laura, if you've told us before, but what kind of camera do you use? And is the lens built in or do you use an older camera and attach lenses of your choice?

I'm actually having a very good day. Between work, calls that came in, trying to find things for Nadia to do and correcting the things she did do, I really didn't have a lot of time to just slow down and carefully study the new things that came in.
I've been doing that today and it's great. I'm totally prepared for my two immigration consultations this afternoon. Whether or not they hire me, I've learned some new things that will help me in the future.

It was getting very warm while I was out doing my errands, but now clouds are moving in, and it seems a bit cooler. Don't know if we're in for a storm, but if it cools things off, I'm all for it.
Amazing how quickly we can get spoiled by the promise of more comfortable temperatures.

DR Laura - thank you for sharing your birthday photos with us.

Enjoyed my afternoon of viewing. First I watched the last BONES episode on disc 3, and it WAS the return of serial killer Howard Epps, escaped from prison and out to kill the entire cast of the show and their loved ones. Very entertaining and surprising episode.
-
Happy birthday DearReaderLaura :)
-
Next, I was dialing around using the digital tuner and ran across LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME on TCM. I have it on a beautiful anamorphic DVD transfer, of course, but I just happened on the moment when Doris gets her first real singing engagement - 2 songs and then followed by 2 more songs at another venue, and I couldn't NOT watch. What terrific singing, and I truly think her performance in this movie is among the two or three best she ever gave, maybe THE best.
-
Loved the pics as always, DR Laura.
-
Next, I put in BROTHERS & SISTERS and watched an episode to see what it would look like on the new set. Color seemed stronger, and the increased resolution certainly helped the picture pop a lot more than on my old set. At some point over the weekend, I must put in an episode of HEROES to see what that looks like being upconverted into 1080p.
-
I pretty much knew from the previews yesterday that the gay characters would not be on AS THE WORLD TURNS today, and I was right. So, I'll look for them again next week.

Thank you, DR Megan.
-
Thank you for your nice comments about my photos.
-
Next, I put in BROTHERS & SISTERS and watched an episode to see what it would look like on the new set. Color seemed stronger, and the increased resolution certainly helped the picture pop a lot more than on my old set. At some point over the weekend, I must put in an episode of HEROES to see what that looks like being upconverted into 1080p.
While you're in an upconversion mood, why not see if "Ugly Betty" fares better in color resolution on your new TV.
-
Has anyone ever noticed that "Miss Karen" is an anagram for "Ms Snarkie"?
:o
;D
:-*
The truth is out! Ron Pulliam IS Miss Karen!!!
-
I concluded my afternoon of viewing by putting the second disc in THE 3 PENNY OPERA set in the player and watching one of the bonus features, an interview with actor Fritz Rasp (who played Peachum in the movie). It was filmed in 1972 and most of his comments didn't have anything to do with the movie, but right at the end he did allude to their doing the movie enthusiastically because they knew it was for art's sake rather than for commerce.
And according to the commentators, the movie was not a big hit anywhere when it came out in 1931 even though the stage version had been a sensation all over Europe after it premiered.
-
Thank you for your nice comments about my photos.
Actually, they are you more than the camera, since it's a talent to take good pictures. The best camera in the world won't take a great photo if the photographer isn't "one" with the camera.
-
Any idea why this soap seems to be the only one the SOAP channel doesn't repeat?
I really have no clue except that it's not as popular as the CBS soaps that SoapNet does show. SoapNet doesn't show GUIDING LIGHT either, do they?
-
Has anyone ever noticed that "Miss Karen" is an anagram for "Ms Snarkie"?
No, but now that you've uncovered her secret I'm sure we can point it out...often!

That's a libelous insult to Miss Karen.
And a gender reassignment for me.
-

A good idea. I'll think of an episode I want to see again and try it, maybe tonight if I finish with THE 3 PENNY OPERA's second disc.
-
DRLAURA your pictures are absolutly amazinag and I agree with Cilla you really should consider publishing, or at the very least having them printed and matted and sell them to the tourists
Last Autumn when Jose led a HHW contingent through Central Park we came upon a photographer selling his prints of photos he took in the Park, I know that several of us left with his wares

Just had a PayDay Avalanche - a chocolate-covered PayDay. Sort of reminded me of a Baby Ruth.

I think Miss Karen and I will have to team up and converge on vixmom.

Ginny, sorry to bring up a sad subject, but I was thinking last night, about when we were cleaing out my grandmothers home. We couldn't find any of her good jewlery, her costume jewlwery was all in the case but not the real stuff....
After exploring I discovered that she had wrapped her "good stuff" in old kleenex and stuffed in in various places around the apartment, inside her sewing machine bobbin case, in the toe of a shoe, inside the sofa cushion, inside boxes of food in the pantry....to protect them from potential robbers

Touched....truly.....

In my CD player at work: The Brain from Planet X
In my CD player in the car: The Last Starfighter
The former of which Joe and I will be seeing a week from Sunday.
The latter of which we will be seeing a week from tomorrow.
And Such Good Friends--well, I have no CD, but that is planned for Sunday also.
We will be driving in with vixmom and the vixter, but while they will shuttle back and forth from the Island of Long, we will be staying at the Milford Plaza Saturday and Sunday nights, in order to relieve the stress of multiple musicals.

A veritable blast from the past!!!
Welcome home DR WFO!!! You have many many DR's to meet and about 700 pages of posts tpo catch up on!!
-
Sort of like ripping off a band-aid, huh, DR Cillaliz?
You could say that. I really feel relieved. By her attitude this week, I know I did the right thing.
-
Lovely to see the return of DRs Penny O and WFO
-
Thank you for your nice comments about my photos.
You most definitely have the knack for taking all of those lovely photos! I'd certainly buy a book of your nature photographs - autographed by you, of course.

WFO, do they have parking? What time did you want to set off? Oh and call me
please
-
DR Vixmom - we're going through things pretty thoroughly, mostly because Harriet had a step-mother who hid valuables like that and Richard remembers cleaning out her house. As for jewelry, she was wearing 2 rings right up until the surgery - her wedding ring, which is now on a chain around the neck of her youngest granddaughter and an opal, which is on my right hand. There's lots of costume jewelry that has yet to be dealt with.
-

Omigawd! Does that mean that FJL is a . . . .fig?

Speaking of pale male and Central Park, does anyone know if there are birdwatching tours of the Park? Richard and I were just talking yesterday about trying to do something like that.

Well, only at extra cost--much more than you'll pay at a garage, so that's out. I had originally made reservations at The Muse, but then Joe learned how expensive it was and insisted for 2 nights we could make do at the Milford--even though last time we stayed there he was miserable and vowed never again. But as Bond says...
Oh, and

But now I rest on the couch with my first Bollywood movie of the weekend ....DIL VIL PYAR VYAR (2002), a nice little romantic comedy/drama with lots of attractive performers in it, including the star of MY BROTHER NIKHIL.

Well, it's about time to head off to dinner wth my Library of congress friends, then head down to the Acorn. I have a few friends coming tonight, and I look forward to seeing "the Brain" and crew again.
-
DR Elmore - will you see all performances of the Brain?
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes, MBarnum and William F. Orr,
-
I bought groceries to make my choice of dinner tonight. It is no-calorie day.
-
I chose three of my best butterfly photos and printed and framed them for my office wall. Only one came out REALLY good, though. I may try a couple of the dragonflies -- I was able to zoom in pretty close on a couple of them.

Continued second-night vibes to THE BRAIN.

I have a page on notes to give, so I do hope some of the company arrives pre-half-hour so I can give them.

I've been keeping my eye on the Film Score Monthly Message Board today....there are a record NINE (Count 'em 9) LOCKED threads since yesterday.
I don't think more than two have ever been locked in a single week.
-
Well, Lukas knows who's been causing the trouble now, so it will all be over soon. And I hate to say I was right about it, but, what the hey, I was right about it.
-
I shall now be on my way to performance two of The Brain From Planet X. Please send excellent vibes and xylophones for a FUNNY show.

Well, Lukas knows who's been causing the trouble now, so it will all be over soon. And I hate to say I was right about it, but, what the hey, I was right about it.
I'm hearing Kander and Ebb in my head right now...and it's Lauren Bacall extolling, "I was right" ("That's right!")
:)
-
Geez, I nearly freaked a moment ago. I knew BK had just posted, but when I went to find the thread I accidentally opened the last page of yesterday's notes....and DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN...a Miss Karen/DakotaCelt FRENZY.
I was amazed, let me tell you, that they could have done so much so quickly.
And then I realized the truth of it.
And then I felt just a tad snarky.
But I got over it.
-
And it's just as well, 'cause me and Miss Karen, we got some business to conduct with vixmom.

Vibes and salutations for THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X redux

Let's get this weekend started!
-
Opening Night for Annie, Get Your Gun not nearly exciting as The Brain From Planet X wish I was there instead of here! This is a show that while it's opening, I'm ready for the run to be over.
Auditions for the Menken/Ahrens version of A Christmas Carol tomorrow. I'm looking forward to something new.
Off to don my boots and bandana - yes, the band is dressing "cowboy" for this show. Oy
-
Happy Birthday DearReaderLaura!

Thanks, Matthew.

Car CD; Groucho's Mikado, a freebie Mozart excerpt that arrived in the mail; Yesterday was a house keeping binge. The apt complex got messages-ther'll be a new owners inspection, -I imagined them poking thru my Molly Maidless belongings-panicked and cleaned like crazy. Turned out they only needed to look at Smoke detectors, but it gave me a chance to nostalgize with some Lana Cantrell LPs, the new WSS CD, the new(for me )Ron Raines CD(two tracks orchestrated by one Larry Moore) and an all time fave, NO STRINGS, played nice and loud.Congrats to BK on the opening- when organized, X will be my next purchase

Right now I shall watch some episodes of STATE TROOPER.

Hello Hello!! I am so happy. Paul and I went to Panera and ran into the guy who sort of blew me off painting my trim etc last may. Well turns out he didn't really blow me off, he just had some jobs paying a lot more per hour than he's going to charge me, so, he put me off. Ok, if he's going to give me a discount. He's going to be done with his other jobs on Wednesday and is ready to start at my house. He's going to do the outside trim and caulk around windows and replace a board that's rotten.
BUT, he's a painter, so I think I'm going to have him give me an estimate on the living room/dining room and the stairwell/hallway in my house. It's all needed to be done since I moved in. He's also going to take a look at the downstairs room and perhaps can do the work there too. I'm hoping he has time..they are all little jobs for him, but would be major for me. It would be SOOO nice to have it done before winter so I can spend the time organizing etc.
-
Good painting vibes for Cillaliz!!

Good one, Ron!
How'd you ever pick up on THAT?
And what does JRAND have to say about THAT coincidence?
-
Had a nice, full evening of reviewing several things.
I began with disc 2 in THE 3 PENNY OPERA. It begins with the French language version of the film: a totaly different cast, and though it's a scene-for-scene copy, it has a very different look and feel. Much brighter, nicer looking leading players, but I have to say I much preferred the German version. The cynacism and brittle nature of the satire is right for the glummer look of the German version.

You can talk about THAT Angel any time you want! I wish I had had time tonight to watch another episodes from the BONES set.
-
Just got off the phone with Sam. She is very excited about our upcoming trip. She said she would visit here but she doesn't know how to do the website. I'll get her started on it Thursday when we're in Omaha.
-
The second disc also contains a nice video essay comparing the two versions of 3 PENNY to each other. Loved the side by side comparisons.
-
The 3 PENNY set concluded with a 40 minute video compilation of some absolutely gorgeous stills taken by Hans Casparius on the set with both sets of actors, sometimes in the same shots. Very moody and evocative shots.

DR PennyO Didn't get a chance to wish you VIBES for opening night...hope it was fabulous..as I'm sure it was
-
Next, I gave in to my guilty pleasure and put on VIVA LAS VEGAS on the new Blu-ray HD disc. The film has never looked this good, of course, and all the scratches and splotches from the laserdisc release are now gone. There are two Dolby DIgital 5.1 tracks on the Blu-ray (along with the mono track).
During the credits, the background shots of the casinos in Vegas then looked a bit soft, and my heart sank a little bit thinking it was going to be a disappointing transfer, but once the credits were over, the picture was very sharp and that that three dimensional look (at least in most of it) that good HD always has.
-
When that was over, I put in the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" episode of UGLY BETTY (Patti Lupone playing Marc's mother). On 1080p upconverted, it did look a hair better than it did on my old set at 720p, but it still lacks that thick richness of color that the show has in HD. The colors on the regular DVD are certainly saturated, but there just isn't that pop to them that the show has in HD.

It's a good episode regardless the equipment you use to view it. Nice to finally see Marc with some humanity.

Going to finish up some writing now, and then I'm heading down to bed.
Good night!

Pretty amazing anagram discovery, DR Ron Pulliam! Hats off to ya. :)

DR JEANNE there are NO coincidences.
Congrats on your purchases DR MBARNUM.....Frances Farmer as Bobby Driscoll's mother is very interesting.....her husband in the movie is Uncle Jesse himself, Denver Pyle.
And one of the "good" teens is future Broadway producer [Eu]Gene Perrsson from EARTH VS THE SPIDER....
And of course Mr Mark Damon as Twig.

In some ways a better performance than last night but I leave everythng else to BK!

In some ways a better performance than last night but I leave everythng else to BK!
Any See-celebrities in attendance this evening besides yourselves? ;D
-
Good Evening!
Well, I went to the second performance of The Brain too. As did my friend, Shawn. And, lo and behold, once I got to the theatre, it was like old home week. Brad Oscar and his partner, Diego, were in attendance tonight too. We had a great time catching up.
DR TCB - He says HI back! :)
-
And I enjoyed myself tonight again. As did Shawn, Brad and Diego, and a plethora of other people.
-
After the show, I was supposed to head down to a restaurant in the Meat Packing District. I was calling my friend just to double-check the location, and it turns out the restaurant had a "mis-communication", and they were going to close down the party at 11:30. Well, since I didn't leave The Acorn until a little past 11:00, I just went ahead and headed home. And here I am.
-
I believe our esteemed BK headed up to Joe Allen after tonight's show for a late post-show knosh.
-
My dear DakotaCelt! He performs HERE every day!!!
:D
Yes, his wit and charm is noted!!!
-
Beautiful photos Laura... I really do enjoy seeing them.
I also concur with Cilla and vixmom, you should publish them. You have a great eye.
-
I really have no clue except that it's not as popular as the CBS soaps that SoapNet does show. SoapNet doesn't show GUIDING LIGHT either, do they?
No.
They do not show any of the preseant Proctor and Gamble soaps nor Bold and the BEautiful. Not sure why they are showing Days....
-
I did read somewhere that they are bringing Another World back. Soapnet also broadcasts from time to time Ryan's HOpe and osme of the primetime soaps....
Waiting for them to bring back Search for Tomorrow.
-
It is about time that BK got home. It is 1:00 am in New York!
-
I believe they do carry THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, but I'm not really even sure about that one. I do know they carrythe ABC soaps.
Dallas, BH90210, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest appear from time to time
All three of the ABC soaps, DOOL, YR,
Sometimes they run classic eppies of Another World and Ryan's Hope.
Some chat shows, specials and a show called "You Want to be a Soap Star."
-
elmore said that in some ways it was a better show tonight. I'd have to disagree and say that in all ways save for one it was a great show tonight from start to finish, and the cast, save for one person, stepped up to the plate and hit home runs and I love them dearly for doing so. For we had the evening from hell, tech-wise, which I'll tell you all about in the notes. That we got through it not only gracefully and with good humor (given the horrorshow that was going on in the sound booth and the fact that said problems caused us to go up thirty-five minutes late), but we had a fabulous audience who was with the show from the opening to the closing. If we hadn't had our tech difficulties, it would have been an amazing evening, but even with them the laughs were long and loud and very much in keeping with what we had in LA all the time, but not what we had last night at our opening, with an audience that was very subdued and a show that was a beat behind almost all the way through.
-
Paint vibes to Cilla.
-
I'm stunned that elmore didn't bring Ron to say hello, stunned do you hear me? Our Milla Ilieva was there, as were Rodzinski and TPunk, my pal Theresa Finamore and our very own William E. Lurie and his ever-lovin' - the latter brought me a whole big bag o' gummies. One of the Scarlet Street gang was there, Kevin Shinnick, and I knew a few others, but mostly it was just folks who got all the references and was just there to have a good time. There will be very big meetings going on this weekend about tonight's screwup and they will damn well be fixed by Tuesday. It wasn't just us - the show before us had to perform completely acoustically, and that's almost what we had to do.
-
Glad to hear you have a great show!
Continued vibes for Stratospheric success!!!
-
Good one, Ron!
How'd you ever pick up on THAT?
And what does JRAND have to say about THAT coincidence?
Thank you, Jeanne!
All I could get was a snark from vixmom about Karen and I being the same person.
It's S-P-O-O-K-Y that anagram!!!
How I came up with it was I was reading a post of hers with "snark" in it....and i thought, "If I change that 's' to an 'e', it would spell 'Karen.'"
After that it all fell into play.
:D
-
Here it is LATE on the east coast and we're still on Friday's notes.
Bk must still be partying after his post. That, or he is laboring over tomorrow's notes.
-
Since there's still time:
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DEARREADERLAURA!! ;D
