Anna Caphasia was, I think, a great star of stage and stage in the early 1920's. In her reincarnated life, she starred in a dinner theater production of Onychleardayyoucanseeforever.

Shortly before BK stopped by Eatery this evening, the ever-present Guy Haines breezed in and sampled the Eatery specialty - "Shrimp Chips."

Article in today's NY Times about those annoying, animated bottom-of-screen promos on television that we've discussed. Here (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/24/business/media/24clutter.html?_r=1&th=&oref=slogin&emc=th&pagewanted=print).

SACCO, VANZETTI CASE EXHIBITED IN BOSTON (http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Sep23/0,4670,SaccoampVanzetti,00.html)
By DENISE LAVOIE, Associated Press Writer
BOSTON —
More than 80 years after Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in Boston, they still inspire impassioned debate about whether they were guilty of the murders of two men during a 1920 payroll robbery.
But in a new exhibit at the state's highest court, the guilt or innocence of the Italian immigrants and committed anarchists is not as important as the question of whether they received a fair trial.
"The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti: Justice on Trial," explores not only the trial itself, but the tension and political turmoil of the times. The exhibit highlights the prejudice against immigrants that was prevalent then, particularly against foreigners who believed in communism, socialism or anarchism.
…
The exhibit, which opened earlier this month and will run indefinitely, is displayed in a small room in the John Adams Courthouse, where the Supreme Judicial Court hears appeals in cases ranging from property disputes to sensational murder cases. Placards and photographs guide visitors through the story of the two men. There is also a computer terminal where visitors can link to the Web site of law professor Douglas Linder and read trial transcripts, statements Sacco and Vanzetti made at their sentencing and letters they wrote from prison.
…
The case has been the subject of countless books, plays, popular songs and even operas. The exhibit includes a copy of Millay's poem, "Justice Denied in Massachusetts," and a small sampling of what has been written about the case. A 1920s-style radio lets visitors listen to Joan Baez, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger sing about the pair.
Some who have studied the case see parallels between the antagonism toward immigrants in Sacco and Vanzetti's time and the country's current divide over immigration.
"Anytime you have a large influx of immigrants into an area, there tends to be economic dislocations, competition in the marketplace, and that generates hostility in some quarters toward the new immigrant group," said Linder, who teaches at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and features the Sacco and Vanzetti case in his courses and on the Web site he developed to provide historical information about famous trials.
"It was a time where the immigration issue was on the front burner. One could imagine a similar case arising today where some Mexican-American immigrant was involved in some celebrated crime."
…
The exhibit was put together by Barbara Berenson, senior administrative attorney for the state Supreme Judicial Court, after she came across pieces of an earlier exhibit that were in storage at the Commonwealth Museum, the state's history museum. Berenson, together with Carole Doody, an art director and graphic designer for the state Social Law Library, added more details and documents from the trial, more photographs and more information about the international impact of the case.
Too bad they don't have a documentray DVD to offer for sale.

Good morning, all! I spent the evening drafting the new road map, adding "Wilkommen," through the various songs in this 7-minute medley, and I shall run to Staples at 8 am, make two copies of the layout - with new intro to "If This Isn't Love" - and commence the scoring. For the opening sectrion from "The Merry Widow," I'll use the original Lehar orchestration since it's so good.

Do any of our musical theatre savvy New Yorkers have access to a recording of the muscial version of It's A Wonderful Life? It's being done by a theatre on Long Island for the Christmas season and Anthony is auditioning for it on Friday. He auditioned for it about 18 moths ago for another theatre (and didn't get cast) so he's familiar with some of the music. The auditioners said to sing a song from the show if you can. At the callbacks to the first audition Anthony sang Clarence's song but wasn't able to get a copy of the music. He wonders if anyone in the city has the music and/or the recording which he could listen to before Friday.

I must get back to work.
Glad to hear that Miss Karen arrived safely.
I was at the Flea Market early so I didn't get the end of day bargins.
I'm seeing The Ritz tomorrow evening.
I'm also going to see my doctor tomorrow morning for my annual physical. I expect to see a drop in my cholesterol after the changes I've made in diet (especially) and exercise. We shall see.

Alright, now I'm really outta here.

DR Ben, there's no commercial recording that I know of and there are at least two musical versions floating about - one by Walter Willison et al and one by Sheldon Harnick. BK recorded a few songs from the Harnick version and I scored them.

Eighteen moths ago seems like a long time.

CAPE FEAR
FALLING IN LOVE

A propos the Hair revival currently playing at the Delacorte [tonight is the last night, I believe] - here I quote verbatim from a prominent theatre blog:
MacDermot tells me that, for the park concerts, "some of the scenes have been shortened, and the band will be on stage: three trumpets, trombone, baritone sex, and five in the rhythm section.
Love that baritone sex going on in the orchestra. Authentic performance practice for this show. ;)

With all that oatmeal, it should drop quite a bit! ;)

Does oatmeal actually lower cholesterol, or does it just replace cholesterol-laden foods in someone's diet?
-
Actually, it's the physical exertion spent in washing the bowl daily that lowers your cholestrol.

DR FJL, according to the Mayo Clinic:
Oatmeal contains soluble fiber, which reduces your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the "bad" cholesterol. Soluble fiber is also found in such foods as kidney beans, brussels sprouts, apples, pears, psyllium, barley and prunes.
Soluble fiber appears to reduce the absorption of cholesterol in your intestines. Gel-like soluble fiber binds bile (which contains cholesterol) and dietary cholesterol so that the body excretes it.
Five to 10 grams of soluble fiber a day decreases LDL cholesterol by about 5 percent. Eating 1.5 cups of cooked oatmeal provides 4.5 grams of fiber — enough to lower your cholesterol. To mix it up a little, try oat bran or cold cereal made with oatmeal or oat bran.
-
Or, you can just read DR Ben's latest tome, Oatmeals I Have Known.
-
Thanks for that info, singdaw.
-
According to the Mayo clinic, I think mayo is not good for cholesterol levels, right?
-
It's also proven to reduce sensitivity in librettists currently in final rehearsal mode. ;)
-
When the electricity went out, our maid made mayo manually.

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day?
-
Good morning!
Looks like today is going to be a repeat of eysterday temperature-wise. Rain moves in during the mid-week period, but otherwise, lows in the mid-60s, and highs in the mid to high 80s all week.
Yuck!
-
I enjoyed the DR MBarnum pics of DD Bosco, and the pictures of DRs Miss Karen, JoseS, and bk, too. Thanks for sharing.
-
Glad to see the networks are willing to endure the backlash when they ruin TV watching for millions of people. If they got the backlash they deserved believe me they would not endure it - they'd take those damn promos and get rid of them so fast it would make everyone's collective headspins. But, people say nothing, and it's only going to get worse and worse. No wonder that so many children are ADD - these cretins CATER to the causes.
-
Just to clarify: our maid didn't know Don. She was making sandwiches. :P

DR FJL - in preparation for seeing your show next Wednesday evening, DH Richard and I watched the movie Saturday night.
-
I spent the morning watching trhee more episodes of WHAT ABOUT BRIAN. I'm up to episode #18 now, and I'll be surprised if I start to like the show any better. By this point, I think for me it's a lost cause. They've brought Marjorie back into the picture to stir things up, and that was pretty much the end for me. I can't believe either of the guys would have wanted to come within a thousand miles of her, and for Adam to still have feelings after trying to get started on a life with Heather, well, it just burned me up with that kind of audience manipulation.
-
singdaw, thanks for clarifying. We wouldn't want any scandal surrounding our show.
-
I know I've said it before, but I keep seeing WHAT ABOUT BRAIN every time I see the words WHAT ABOUT BRIAN!
-
Big season premiere tonight. I'll be on NBC all night with CHUCK, HEROES, and JOURNEYMAN, and I'll be recording the season premieres of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and CSI: MIAMI. This may be my last season with CSI: MIAMI. I did not like the direction of the show at all near the end of last season, and this may be the end for me depending on what they do with the season's first few episodes.

And I wasn't able to find a rerun of TORCHWOOD (that I missed on Saturday night) until tomorrow night. That's OK, though, since I'm too busy with other DVDs right now to watch it anyway.
-
My favorite Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro movie is RAGING BULL. I also found CAPE FEAR completely over-the-top and thus imminently watchable.
And I've often voiced my support for NEW YORK, NEW YORK, so I won't go into it again.
-
THE KING OF COMEDY is also wonderful.
-
I see the creators of Little Egypt (the LA musical currently at NYMF) have discovered the joys of shilling - it's very funny, especially the final post obviously made by the show's director. I like their chutzpah and wish them well here.
-
But Bk, isn't it shocking that it took LITTLE EGYPT so long to get any attention to their really big casting coup. I mean, don't they really have the biggest name in all of NYMF 2007 in their show in Sarah Rue?
-
I know I've said it before, but I keep seeing WHAT ABOUT BRAIN every time I see the words WHAT ABOUT BRIAN!

Not to veer too far afield, but I watched -- with UTTER DELIGHT AND AMAZEMENT -- the HD-DVD issue of the film "The Last Starfighter" this past weekend.
What an astonishing difference there is between the original DVD and this high definition presentation.
It honestly seemed as if I were seeing the movie for the first time.

Happily I was able to watch, via On Demand, the pilots of both "Journeyman" and "Chuck" last night.
"Journeyman" is very interesting, but will take some work from the viewer. Overall, though, Kevin McKidd does a wonderful job in his role, although it's not clear, after one episode, exactly what is happening to this man who is "pulled" out of "now" into the past, and then returned again on a regular, though unpredictable, basis.
"Chuck" is a complete and utter delight....well-performed, intelligently written and crisply directed. I don't think this show will have any problem finding a grateful audience.

I will be in rehearsal from 2:00-5:00 on Wednesday, so I guess I'll just have to second act The Brain that day. Now, of course, if there happen to be technical issues, well, then maybe I'll get there right on time. ;)
<SNARK>
-
I shall shortly be on my way to Fed Ex as soon as I finish being lazy.
-
*But I happened to chat with a few friends last night who are in other NYMF shows right now... And they all had various technical and technician issues during the opening performances over the past couple of days. For some of them, this was their fourth year in a NYMF show, and they don't ever recall having to deal with this much crap in the past. -At least from the NYMF personnel. Usually it's been the production that's been behind. -Who knows? Maybe that's what NYMF was counting on.

I was amazed to find "Journeyman" last night. Under HD, I found Network Previews with "Life" and "Chuck". Under TV Entertainment, I found another Network Previews and there was "Journeyman" with others, but not in HD. I look forward to a complete HD night on NBC today.
-
DR Jeanne - I don't think I can get in on Wednesday evening. If there's any way to re-arrange my schedule I will, as I would love to meet you.

Hmm... I wonder if I could arrange some sort of profit-sharing deal with Levain and Amy's Bread for this week.

Still undecided about the TOD....
However the song of the day.....well.
I am not the only DR who has played Hysterium. On the Thursday night performance of our second week, the fellows before me messed up the lyrics of "Everybody's Got to Have a Maid"....I came on the join them for the third verse.....my vamp started, we started the choreography....and I forgot EVERY word I was supposed to sing....
Of course FORUM is the type of anything goes show that the audience will support even memory lapses....we finally got back into it. And then we were joined by the 4th man....Hero's father....who later said "I didn't want to come out...."
Immediately after the song they all ran offstage because it was time for my solo of the evening "I'm Calm"....and as they made their egress I called after them: "Cowards!"
I love theatre!!

Merlin looks very wise and all-knowing!!! :)
-
From DR CASON's photo, it seems that DR JOSE has been dropping a pound or two here and there.
Very nice.
It's all in the haircut.
:)
Thank you. -I have been trying to be "better" lately, but I also know a big part of it has to do with my regular schedule lately. And the fact that I've had some 'early' - before Noon - mornings. I eat breakfast every day, and that really does do wonders in regards to my cravings throughout the day. Yes, I do make it to Levain every now and then, and Amy's Bread, and Crumbs, and Grom, and... But I'm also back to the old "trick" of not eating past 7:30p.m. whenever that is a feasible thing to do. *Of course, the four pairs of new jeans I bought a few weeks ago are already starting to feel loose, so... Ah, well... ;)
-
Here we are....just as if we knew the words..... ;D

It's always good to see DR heehaw kicking up his heels.

Our local paper announced today that Middletown Public Library is launching a
Cult and Classic Film Series (http://www.middletownjournal.com/hp/content/oh/story/news/local/2007/09/24/mj092407films.html)

Where is the Allison Hayes classic? ;D
-
Merlin looks very wise and all-knowing!!! :)
Indeed he is. 8)
-
It's all in the haircut.
:)
*Of course, the four pairs of new jeans I bought a few weeks ago are already starting to feel loose, so...
Never fear....they'll shrink once you wash them.
-
Hmm... I wonder if I could arrange some sort of profit-sharing deal with Levain and Amy's Bread for this week.
;D
I want to try Amy's monkeycake, but I also love the cupcakes there
-
Baritone sex.
I just like saying it.
-
Pretend my FORUM picture is here for the dance. :o
-
It's always good to see DR heehaw kicking up his heels.
Higher and wider...well, you know the rest. :)
-
Merlin the Magic Cat ignoring the brouhaha of the 25th Anniversary at World of Wisdom on Saturday.
For some reason, I think Merlin would smoke cigarettes - with a long cigarette holder, of course - if he could.
Silly people <puff-puff>
-
Immediately after the song they all ran offstage because it was time for my solo of the evening "I'm Calm"....and as they made their egress I called after them: "Cowards!"
I love theatre!!
Next time, use Robert Preston's line from that final song in "Victor, Victoria"...the one he uses when they let him fall, rather than catch him:
"Oh...you bitches!"
-
Baritone sex.
I just like saying it.
Heck, I like doing it!
-
Hmmm...DR RLP....I shall have to check my ONDEMAND to see if I can see a preview of a couple of those shows.
DR NOEL is following the rules....probably one of the very few people who read them.....
-
Where is the Allison Hayes classic? ;D
Give 'em time, DR JRand, give 'em time!
-
Never fear....they'll shrink once you wash them.
The jeans, you mean?
-
Next time, use Robert Preston's line from that final song in "Victor, Victoria"...the one he uses when they let him fall, rather than catch him:
"Oh...you bitches!"
That WAS my first thought. ;D
-
Higher and wider...well, you know the rest. :)
Well, I've heard tales....and then imagined some, besides....
-
The jeans, you mean?
I'm almost certain that was my intent....
-
For some reason, I think Merlin would smoke cigarettes - with a long cigarette holder, of course - if he could.
Silly people <puff-puff>
My haircut didn't help me!
Yes, he should.....Lark cigarettes, no doubt.
LOL DR GINNY.....she was directed by Douglas Sirk in one film, but I doubt it will be the chosen one.
-
Never fear....they'll shrink once you wash them.
But they have been washed, my Dear Snarky Friend, they have. And they're easy/easier to put on right out of the dryer lately.
And what about your jeans?
;D
-
Baritone sex.
Yep. DR Vixmom's spelling checker missed that one, too. :)
-
But they have been washed, my Dear Snarky Friend, they have. And they're easy/easier to put on right out of the dryer lately.
And what about your jeans?
;D
I stopped wearing jeans a decade ago.
-
Heck, I like doing it!
Oh, I guess I did say that out loud.
-
Lovely Forum photo, DR JRand57. What a fun show!
-
So, when someone says they've been "sitting on their hands", do they mean that literally or figuratively? Or both?
-
TOD:
King of Comedy
Boxcar Bertha
Goodfellas
And many of the others already mentioned.
-
I really liked THE DEPARTED, but I have only seen it once, so I can't add it to my list at this time....no I can't....at this time.
-
Oh, I guess I did say that out loud.
Out loud and proud.
;D
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, I believe I have a bit of Enabling to attend to in a few minutes, so...
Laters...
-
Out loud and proud.
;D
Just give me a flag and I'll wave it!
-
So, when someone says they've been "sitting on their hands", do they mean that literally or figuratively? Or both?
I s'pose it depends on the person doing the sayin'.
-
Lovely Forum photo, DR JRand57. What a fun show!
Would love to do it again......
Baritone, you know.
What key does Guy Haines sing in? I have been singing along to the CD's...and it's my key, too. 8)
-
I like it on the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN studio recording when the conductor asks Lina what key she will be singing in:
Kathy: (behind the curtain) A flat.
Lina: (to the conductor) ....a flat...
-
Hmm... Remember, if you're in the NYC area, you can also watch tonight's Metropolitan Opera's season opener, Lucia di Lammermoor, on the big screen in Times Square, or out on the plaza at Lincoln Center.
*In other words, gridlock in Times Square and Lincoln Center tonight. ;)
-
What is sheepherder's favorite opera?
Lucia de Lamb Amour.
-
Cilla-turkeys crossing the road-LOL
DR Laura, I have loads of photos from a hazy day at the beach. Do you want those to add to your collection of things you don’t see in Arizona? ;)
-
Lucia de Lamb Amour.
Oy!
Now aren't you feeling rather sheepish? :P
-
DR Jane - good to see you! Now: how much longer are you going to keep us in suspense about your good news, foreshadowed yesterday? :)
-
DR Edisaurus is showing up with a Netherlands flag next to her name. I didn't know that her new house was in Europe!
-

I did my bit for ya. :)
But after you vote they also ask you to give a reason why it's the best! So Ijust said it was because customer service was fantastic... ;)

DR JRand - I'll vote when I get to my home email, OK?

DR Jane - when my family lived in Portland we used to go to Short Sands Beach. Have you been there?

I did my bit for ya. :)

Perfect....voting continues until October 27th, I think....and my sister doesn't have blonde hair anymore. 8)
-
WoW has my 5 votes! :)
-
Well, it's my half-hour call. See y'all after Grantseeking Basics!
Bye for now.
-
Do presenters have green rooms, too?
***PRESENTATION VIBES***
to DR Ginny!
-
I'm at a local restaurant nearby that has internet access so...
I enjoyed the photos of MBarnum's DD Bosco and his new playmates. It sounds like a very happy and healing meeting for all!
-
And Sherlock on the beach...loved seeing that!
-
Cilla-turkeys crossing the road-LOL
DR Laura, I have loads of photos from a hazy day at the beach. Do you want those to add to your collection of things you don’t see in Arizona? ;)
Yes, please, Jane. Don't smallerize them -- they look better on a big screen if they are large.
-
I wonder if there is baritone sex in Walla Walla, Washington?
It's two...
Two...
Two phrases in one!
-
Just a brief hello before I scamper off and take a test on Latin American History...
Let me see who do I need to remember: Christobal Colon, Cabral, Vespucci, Pizarro, Henry the navigator...
Dang, I wish I would have taken Spanish instaead for French... I am hopelessly confused with some of the Spanish terms... SIGH!!!
For some odd reason Monty Python keeps creeping into my head : The Spanish Inquisition skit...
-
DR Cillaliz, when we see you in NY Greg can tell you about his expreiences with wild turkey.
The bird, that is...
He recorded sound for a documentary on them. He even invented a way to mic them and capture the subsonic sounds they make when courting. It was weird ediing this because I could only heat the sounds when I sped up the playback, they were so low!
-
If turkeys can court in sounds tat humans can't even hear, why can't ators project a little more and eschew the mics? (Not that I'm comparing actors to turkeys, mind you...)
-
der B, thanks for the extra plug for THE WAR. I will be interested in hearing your take on the series.
-
td, once again, we agree...I love THEM as well as THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. They both scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, so naturally I loved them.
-
they look better on a big screen if they are large.
Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear!
-
td, I'm sorry I won't get to meet you when we're in NY.
And Music Guy, are you only in Manhattan on Wed.? We get in Thursday afternoon...Id love to see you.
-
I keep getting a "Gateway Time-out" when I try to get my ballot to vote...I shall try again later.
-
I'm planning on purchasing the "War" on DVD and enjoying it in a leisurely fashion.
-
DR Jose, I was telling my niece about you and how you are the "Iron Man" of pianists, able to play hundreds of auditions with nary a break for a pee or a cookie. She was in awe!
I told her that wen she graduates from HS I will take her to NY for a few shows. We will have to time it so we'll be there when you're in town playing a show. She would be so thrilled to meet the HHW/Kimlets who work on Broadway!
-
I'm in a writing frenzy until my battery runs out!
-
bk, glad to know you got SPIDER BABY. A true classic! Wish I could have been there for the flea market. I would have bought an Avenue Q Bush shirt, for sure...
-
Hello DR EDISAURUS!!
Thanks for the votes DR SINGDAW...and the attempt, DR MBARNUM!
-
TCB... I hope the vicodin is doing the trick. But I also think maybe it's time to seek a 3rd opinion!
Pain free vibes to you. My dad had a similar shoulder problem and I've seen how painful that can be.
-
TOD:
Martin Scorsese: I have never been able to sit through any of his films.
Robert DeNiro: I enjoyed MEET THE PARENTS, but that is about it for him.
-
So.... A SEAGULL WALKS INTO A SHOP... (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/north_east/6907994.stm)
*Be sure to click on "Watch" to see the perp in progress. ;)
Very funny. We couldn't watch from this so Keith Googled "Sam the shoplifting seagull” to find a video we could view.
-
Dakota Celt, it was nice to see your neighborhood. I like your new avatar very much, too!
Maybe I should find a new one, that isn't so 20 years ago and many many pounds ago, so the HHWers will recognize me in NY. I don't want to be accused of "false advertising"!
Like the car mirrors, I could add a disclaimer: "Objects in these avatars are older and wider than they appear".
-
My mom sent me the seagull video. Very funny!
We used to have racoons come in through thr cat door to steal cat food. Several times they ran out with a box of tartar control cat treats and we watched them huddling together, ripping it open and sharing the contents.
-
Merlin looks very wise and all-knowing!!! :)
;D He does.
-
DR Elmore, is the Plaza event open to the public? I would love to hear your arrangement. I can't beleive you're able to turn that around so quickly!
-
Actually, it's the physical exertion spent in washing the bowl daily that lowers your cholestrol.
LOL, Singdaw!
-
I wonder how Merlin and Miss Blue Moon get along?
-
MBarmun-Is is heartwarming to know Scruffy has found a loving home, including a dog companion. The photo of Bosco with his new cousins is sweet & this new friendship is an example George is still with his loved ones in spirit.
I’m especially glad to know this event was happening yesterday when we suddenly found ourselves driving through Salem & wishing we had know early enough to make plans to connect with you.
The photo of Bosco alone is beautiful.
-
DR ArnoldMBrockman, you are a musical encyclopedia. I've never even heard of half of these songs, but it's led me to check some of them out. Today's title is intriguing...
-
I wonder how Merlin and Miss Blue Moon get along?
Neither one is even aware of the existence of the other.... ;D
-
Sherlock at the Ocean looks like the cover of one of those Billy Vaughn albums of the 50's......
-
Glad to see the networks are willing to endure the backlash when they ruin TV watching for millions of people. If they got the backlash they deserved believe me they would not endure it - they'd take those damn promos and get rid of them so fast it would make everyone's collective headspins. But, people say nothing, and it's only going to get worse and worse. No wonder that so many children are ADD - these cretins CATER to the causes.
I missed this item about the backlash. For some reason I can't access the notes but I did figure out how to change the http address in the window to reflect a new day and read that day's posts. I will try and read the actual notes when I get home.
Is it about the pop ups or actual promos? I would be out of a job if they cut the promos!
-
If Keith wouldn't kill me I would take video's of him chasing the turkeys off our property, it is a sight to behold. ;D ;D ;D
-
DR FJL - in preparation for seeing your show next Wednesday evening, DH Richard and I watched the movie Saturday night.
That's the one tape I didn't pack so we could do the same. But I'm not sure if we will habe the VCR hooked up in time, or have time to sit down at watch it. But DH loves the score, so he's familiar with the story through that.
-
I missed this item about the backlash.
Is it about the pop ups or actual promos? I would be out of a job if they cut the promos!
DR Edi - The pop-ups. See the link in post #14, page 1, today.
-
If Keith wouldn't kill me I would take video's of him chasing the turkeys off our property, it is a sight to behold. ;D ;D ;D
Never send DH Keith to do DD Sherlock's job. :)
-
TOD: AFTER HOURS
-
Wonder if DR RODZINSKI has this LP?
-
I arrive via Amtrak at 1:40pm on Wed and depart 2ish (pm) on Thurs.
Oh, dang! I'll just miss you AND Music Guy. Pooo!
-
Or this one
-
LOL, DR JRand57! :)
-
Thank you Dakota, Cilla, DR Laura, JRand, td, Sindgdaw, & Edi.
The orthopedist prefers to do the physical exam before going over the charts as to keep an open mind. After examining Sherlock, which involves moving his legs, elbows, etc. into all sorts of uncomfortable positions, the doctor looked up at his assistant with a puzzled expression and asked “what did I do to this dog?” ;D
He couldn’t find anything wrong with Sherlock, no signs of pain or problems flexing-NOTHING. :D
The x-rays still tell a different story, exactly what we aren’t sure because the doctor had an emergency that day and was way behind schedule. The assistant gave us the results with a few inconstancies we will have to discuss with the doctor.
Sherlock is our miracle boy, no one knows why and the doctor requested we return in a year, if all is still well, so he can do a CT & try to find out why. We will think about that next year. We just pray there won't be a reason to return before then.
-
I don't know if there are any fans of the original version of NIGHT OF THE LIVIND DEAD, but I read today that Karl Hardman who played the memorable Harry Cooper just died. He was wonderful in that film...here is a shot of him and his reel (and real) wife Marilyn Eastman.
-
I thought this was pretty amusing, from Playbill's recent "Diva" encounter with Joanne Worley:
"Worley: ... I love the swinging of the pearls. Through the years when I would be doing regional theatre or stock, where you have very little time to learn a show and there would be a very involved dance number, I would say, "How about I [swing the pearls]?" And that would take up several bars of the music that I wouldn't have to learn choreography for. [Laughs.] Of course, it would be character-driven and come out of what was right.
;D
-
Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear!
LOL! Two great minds, with but a single thought!
-
Wonderful news about Sherlock DR Jane!!! Maybe he is outgrowing whatever was wrong.
-
JRand57, I will vote after I charge my battery and reconnect! Sorry to reveal how bad of a typist I am when typing fast!
-
DR Edisaurus is showing up with a Netherlands flag next to her name. I didn't know that her new house was in Europe!
I didn't see it, but went to look at my profile and noticed that I'm close to a new millstone!
-
DR Jane - If anyone deserves a miracle, it's you! So glad for you and DH Keith and ESPECIALLY for DD Sherlock.
Yea! :) :) :) :) :)
-
Never send DH Keith to do DD Sherlock's job. :)
LOL-The didn't take up residence here until after we lost our Echo. You are right, this year we should send Sherlock out to chase them away. I'm sure that will work far better than Keith chasing them with a rake. ;D
-
I spy DR PennyO!!!! Can't wait to read your book. Hope your shows are continuing to go well. DR George sure loved it!
-
No rush, thanks DR EDISAURUS.
Joanne Worley - does she swing her pearls in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
-
DR Edi - The pop-ups. See the link in post #14, page 1, today.
Thanks, Singdaw. I will have to read it later but I'm sure I will totally agree, and may forward it to some of my TNT producers!
-
BBL
-
Wonder if DR RODZINSKI has this LP?
LOL!!!! Love it!
I heard Ebb Tide yesterday and remember that it and COLOR MY WORLD were the big slow dance songs of my youth.
-
Anybody going to be watching the new season of DANCING WITH THE STARS tonight? I will. And recording HEROES. Can't wait for that one too.
-
Wonderful news about Sherlock DR Jane!!! Maybe he is outgrowing whatever was wrong.
That would be nice, without the CT we will never know for sure. From what we gathered the x-ray didn't show any changes, we need to pin the doctor down on this.
-
Joanne Worley - does she swing her pearls in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
I would imagine so...
Unless you are speaking euphemistically. :-\
-
And the word of the day is: ONYCHOPHAGIA!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
Eulalie cured her ONYCHOPHAGIA by slipping a GAY CHINA HOOP or two around her wrist. Every time she raised her hand to her mouth, the bracelets would clank together, reminding her to stop.
Her brother, Euford, tried the same cure, but his pals teased him incessantly - the hoops were, perhaps, a little too gay.
-
I'm at 10 % now (a CHICAGO reference) so I'm going to sign off. Great news about Sherlock!
Hope to see y'all later today. I've got a car full of laundry to do at the laundromat, so when I'm in NY I will be showered with clean clothes to boot! I'm so glad it's not going to be 90 degrees, too. Looks like the weather will be glorious!!
-
JRand :D ;D
Singdaw, thanks for the sweet comments regarding us and Sherlock.
Penny, did you see my post so I don't need to email you the news?
-
Cilla, how is Callie today?
Ben, lower cholesterol vibes!
Happy fourth birthday to Miss Wae-Ling Goldstein!
Ginny I haven’t heard of Short Sands Beach. I’ll have to check it out.
-
In other words, plenty of time for Levain Cookies and Amy's Bread's Monkey Cake!
The Levain sound wonderful after hearing so much about them. Hoping to grab some lunch, too.
-
Then Jose thoroughly enjoyed the Watermelon Margarita...
This looks more like he's enjoying his fourth Watermelon Margarita... :o
-
Hello, there, all!!!
Well, I've just caught up - Jane!!! Keith!!! How miraculous a miracle for our baby boy!!! Can't wait to play with him again.
TOD - MIDNIGHT RUN. I have watched it happily many, many times. Grodin and De Niro. Oh, boy!!!
Singdaw - shows are finished. Now I'm in Winnemucca, NV - while the A-Listers are in NY happily anticipating Starfighter and Brain... both of which i have had the pleasure of seeing. Jeez - it was aobut a year ago I was in Issaquah WA with George, watching the staged reading of Starfighter... and less then a year ago I was at LACC enjoying the first full production of BRAIN, while running errands for Elmore the Great!!
-
Is TORCHWOOD any good? It doesn't start here till the beginning of October. Also the TUDORS starts then as well.
-
DR Jeanne - I don't think I can get in on Wednesday evening. If there's any way to re-arrange my schedule I will, as I would love to meet you.
Thank you, Sing. The feeling's mutual!
-
Yes, Jane - I got your good news... I'll call from the road tomorrow to get all the details... by then you may have spoken to the orthopedist.
-
Hmm... I wonder if I could arrange some sort of profit-sharing deal with Levain and Amy's Bread for this week.
;D
I think you ought to arrange it EVERY week!
-
Hilarious pic of Jose!!! hahahahahahaaaaaa!!! Apparently, feelin' no pain.
-
Oh - the maids are pounding on the door... yes, yes, just let me get a shower... then you can shovel out this room...
And why am I even in Winnemucca??? What the hell is Winnemucca???? My cousin Tina just moved into her new house, and celebrated her 10th anniversary last Thursday... so I made a detour on my way down to LA, to see the house and take them to dinner for a belated anniversary party. Winnemucca, NV is the poor man's Laughlin NV, which is the poor man's Las Vegas, NV... oy.
-
Merlin looks very wise and all-knowing!!! :)
That's because he just had his aura cleaned. ;D
-
Hi Penny. I went back & read your posts I missed, glad the show went well and you had fun too, can't beat that. :D
-
So off head i to the shower, thence hie I me into the whirlwind mecca that is Winning Winnemucca!!!
-
The orthopedist works Wednesdays through Saturdays.
-
What the hell is Winnemucca????
Minihaha? ;)
-
Yeah - the shows went great - Friday's audience laughed at everything - stuff i didn't even know was funny was apparently hilarious. The producer got films of both shows, so he's making me a DVD of Friday, as a promo... maybe the Little Trouper is back. Felt pretty good to be up there in the light, after a 2 and a half year lay-off. Great to have George!!!! He sat quite near the stage, and i could look down and share in-jokes with him during the play. I loved it!
-
Sherlock is our miracle boy, no one knows why ...
It's the vibes, Jane.
-
Okay, okay - have a swell day, kidz... I'll try to check in tomorrow. Wednesday, fer sher.
-
But, first - Page 10 dance! Whoopee!
-
Was there a character called Mother Mucca from Winnemucca in the Tales of the City sequel? Or was that already mentioned here?
-
Fred!!!! break legs, boychik...
-
Same back to you, Penny! Lots of love from Skip as well!
-
DRLaura, I don't discount the vibes at all, so please keep them coming. :)
-
Hi PennyO!!
Bye PennyO!
-
Penny-Good thoughts and vibes your DVD is great!
-
And I'm so glad to hear the good news about Sherlock!
-
Thanks DR Laura. Did you have a nice birthday?
-
Great news about sherlock.
-
Oh, dang! I'll just miss you AND Music Guy. Pooo!
Sorry, Edi. Wish I could stay longer and meet more H/Ks. Another time.
-
Yes, Jane. I went birding very early in the morning, then came home and fixed the dinner I wanted.
-
Was there a character called Mother Mucca from Winnemucca in the Tales of the City sequel? Or was that already mentioned here?
Yes. A wonderful character. Just loved her.
-
DR Laura, sounds like a simple yet perfect birthday-the best kind.
Thanks Jennifer.
-
And I wasn't able to find a rerun of TORCHWOOD (that I missed on Saturday night) until tomorrow night. That's OK, though, since I'm too busy with other DVDs right now to watch it anyway.
That ep of Torchwood was particularly good, though. You'll enjoy it.
-
DR MattH, i know you like BROTHERS & SISTERS. I did not get to see last night's clips episode yet. But i did watch it last season. I didn't like it that much in the beginning. But i found it got much better once calista and the senator got together.
-
Hmm... I wonder if Mrs. Quaid had anything to do with this:
Love Gone Wrong: Lone Star Love Cancels Broadway Engagement (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111291.html)
Mr. Quaid also raised a ruckus about Brokeback Mountain, claiming he was duped about the low likelyhood of the film's success and therefor played his part for a lower salary than he usually charges. Would he have raised such a ruckus if he hadn't been prompted by said Mrs. Quaid, I wonder?
-
Loved the Pacifica Quartet. Man it was crowded, though. People lining the streets, Fox News trucks, police. All of this for one tiny chamber concert? What gives? You'd think it was if they'd denied the holocaust or something.
::)
I didn't discover until today that there's video of the press event that included Such Good Friends...
http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/11615 (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/11615)
Of course, this was before we added all those harmonies and completely changed the tempo, but it's a nice memory. And, you can see what eight other NYMF shows are like.
-
Baritone sex.
I just like saying it.
Sounds like one of DR MBarnum's fantasies!
-
No rehearsal today, because we have a contract that doesn't allow us to rehearse today and we play by the rules. I'm going to see The Pacific Quartet, before running off to hear the Such Good Friends trio
What sort of contract would preclude you from rehearsing today? Unless you just worked six days straight. I don't know any other NYMF show that hasn't played by the not working seven days straight rule, do you? Unless it's Roller Derby, who hasn't played by any rules - which is appropritate for a show called Roller Derby.
-
Six rehearsal days out of seven, whether you need them or not, huh? ;)
-
I stopped wearing jeans a decade ago.
Capri pants are so much more fun!
-
Sounds like one of DR MBarnum's fantasies!
How do you know it isn't one of his realities? 8)
-
Capri pants are so much more fun!
;D
-
I did run into Noel's star, Brad Oscar, on my way to Fed Ex. He's such a great guy, and was so complimentary about The Brain - he said he'd gone home and immediately downloaded the album from iTunes and has been playing it ever since. His partner Diego may come back to see us again this week.
-
DR Elmore, is the Plaza event open to the public? I would love to hear your arrangement. I can't beleive you're able to turn that around so quickly!
I actually know nothing aboout the event itself. I'm focused on finishing ASAP. The piece is 73 pages long, and I just finished page 11. Took about 3 hours.
-
Fed Ex was weird. Their computers wouldn't process any "ground" shipments - the guy before me had the problem and then I did. I left them my cc number and they're supposed to call me with a tracking number. I was not thrilled to leave my package there and not have a tracking number. In fact, I'm going to call over there momentarily.
-
I saw Lone Star Love years ago at the late lamented John Houseman Theatre. A not-full house gave it a smattering of applause. Broadway material, it's not.
-
I didn't discover until today that there's video of the press event that included Such Good Friends...
http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/11615 (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/11615)
Of course, this was before we added all those harmonies and completely changed the tempo, but it's a nice memory. And, you can see what eight other NYMF shows are like.
Nice :)

***FINISH-THE-JOB VIBES***
for DR elmore3003!
-
Is TORCHWOOD any good? It doesn't start here till the beginning of October. Also the TUDORS starts then as well.
Der Brucer and I are enjoying it a lot. Good acting, and good writing.
-
I did run into Noel's star, Brad Oscar, on my way to Fed Ex. He's such a great guy, and was so complimentary about The Brain - he said he'd gone home and immediately downloaded the album from iTunes and has been playing it ever since. His partner Diego may come back to see us again this week.
If you think he's great in FedEx, wait till you see him in Such Good Friends!
-
Was there a character called Mother Mucca from Winnemucca in the Tales of the City sequel? Or was that already mentioned here?
Mother Mucca from Winnemucca was indeed in More Tales of the City, both book and miniseries. She was not in Further Tales of the City, the book, but was added to the televersion.
-
Noel, why don't you respond to my post about the rules - I'd like to know what you were talking about.
-
It's so nice to have another day off from work.
Today is just totally laying back and relaxing. Another day off is scheduled for Wednesday, but I'm thinking of getting a haircut so I won't look totally trashy on Sunday (unless the guy who cut my hair last time is there, because he didn't do a decent job at all).
And Sunday (and Monday) have been confirmed by my boss as days off, per request. (Monday is so that der B and I can recover from all that driving on Sunday!)
I need a vacation, but I doubt I'll have the time to take one unless I can schedule it for late October/early November. *le sigh*
-
If you think he's great in FedEx, wait till you see him in Such Good Friends!
;D
-
Oh, your post led me to believe you knew. There's a rule against working actors seven days in a row, even if those actors all say they'd be delighted to do it. Such Good Friends has performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So, Monday is our day of rest.
We've also spent substantially less than the maximum amounts in the the sideletter we signed.
To use a phrase from another board, nymf IS supposed to be a level playing field.
-
DR elmore, vibes you complete all of your work & to your great satisfaction!
-
Late November gives us Thanksgiving, of course - very busy. Then everything starts building up for Christmas - again, very busy. And New Years - busy.
And then, in January, the store will start a refurbishment/remodel. And, in the middle of that, we'll be training the new hires who will be working at our new store in Long Neck (it opens in April). Chaos is predicted.
Heck, just remembering where the various items will be located on the shelves, since the remodel will be done in stages and everything will have to be moved, is going to be monsterous.
And after that, we'll have the summer to plan for all over again!
-
...There's a rule against working actors seven days in a row, even if those actors all say they'd be delighted to do it....
Interesting. Our union contract states that the store must give each employee one day off per week (or pay through the nose in overtime). Nothing about days in a row. Thus, an employee can be given the Sunday off on week One, and the Saturday off on week Two, resulting in twelve working days in succession.
This usually doesn't happen in practice, but it does sometimes, particularly with jobs that have a very few people trained to do them (think pharmacy or the customer services desk), and usually only when one of those few is on vacation. Thankfully, I'm not trained for either position.
-
Ginny, or any other DR with a Tempur-Pedic mattress, I have a question. Does the mattress get harder when the room temps are cooler, and softer when the temps are warmer? Which model do you have?
-
Browsing around on other sites, I've just come across what has to be one of the least tasteful advertising lines ever.
"Kotex fits. Period."
:P
-
Thanks for the clip, DR NOEL......I liked your show best.....was the girl from GOIN' DOWN SWINGIN' or whatever singing in English?
Nice to see some bald men onstage!!! And I could understand the lyrics!!! And it looked fun..... Several of the others seemed to have angst in their pants.
-
Noel - Is anyone not playing by those rehearsal rules that you know of?
-
A Car Full of Clothes in Wannamucca.....
That is the name of my new epic poem.
-
When does STARFIGHTER open? Or did I miss the news......
-
The hotel at Cannon Beach had a Tempur-Pedic mattress that was the softest, & only comfortable one we have slept on. We are re-thinking we might want one now, if we can keep it soft. I don't want a mattress that gets hard during the night if the temps go down, or the heat goes out in the winter. I much prefer to sleep on soft sand then on hard sand, my description of sleeping on one of these.
-
Alert the medium or the extra-extra-large: Both LAST STARFIGHTER and SUCH GOOD FRIENDS open on Friday night. So Noel and I will not be at each other's openings.
-
That last sentence came out wrong. But you know what i meant.
-
But you know what i meant.
;D
But...DO we? ;)
-
Where did the day go! I need to get ready to take Sherlock to training class. He will enjoy the outing. I'm so tired I wish I could pass & do laundry instead.
He was such a good boy at the beach & returned immediately to us every time we called him. Almost always, there was the one time he stole a little girl's sock & playfully ran around before letting me have it. This was just moments after we released him on the beach. I swear he thought he had died & gone to heaven. He was just such a big happy Goofus. Of course we have more photos. :)
-
Alert the medium or the extra-extra-large: Both LAST STARFIGHTER and SUCH GOOD FRIENDS open on Friday night. So Noel and I will not be at each other's openings.
Very exciting & I'm looking forward to reading all the news.
-
singdaw - I meant that we would obviously be at our own opening performances. Indeed our second perfs are on the same schedule as well, IIRC.
-
Thnaks, jane.
-
I have THE DEPARTED sitting here in a Blu-ray version, and I've eyt to find the time to play it. The movie is so long, and the free evenings to give to it just haven't been there lately.
-
Oh - the maids are pounding on the door... yes, yes, just let me get a shower... then you can shovel out this room...
And why am I even in Winnemucca??? What the hell is Winnemucca???? My cousin Tina just moved into her new house, and celebrated her 10th anniversary last Thursday... so I made a detour on my way down to LA, to see the house and take them to dinner for a belated anniversary party. Winnemucca, NV is the poor man's Laughlin NV, which is the poor man's Las Vegas, NV... oy.
Check out the Blue Moon Lodge while you're there....
-
Friday is astrologically a perfect time to open a show. Hunches, instincts, and feelings are in top shape and projects that are moving forward are in the pink!!
-
My dog has a lodge?
-
Capri pants are so much more fun!
Do you wear them with heels or flats?
-
If you have a last minute inspiration....follow it!
-
THE TUDORS is wonderfully entertaining. Don't look at it for the history; look at it for the pageantry and the simply gorgeous men on display.
-
Spent almost all of the afternoon with WHAT ABOUT BRIAN. I am two episodes from the end which I should be able to do before prime time TV starts tonight. Then, I'll watch the special features when I finish the episodes.
-
DR JENNIFER I have enjoyed both episodes of TORCHWOOD that I have seen....mostly for the cast....but the stories are interesting.
Does it make anyone else nervous that on afternoon television there are ads for schools to train Airplane Mechanics? And you can graduate in less than six months? According to the Mickey Mouse Club, you can't even train a stewardess in that length of time.
-
I did have a few minutes before coming upstairs to check out today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay storyline today and the previews suggest it won't be there tomorrow either.
-
What director or choreographer initiated the idea of facing upstage until you sing......then turn around and sing....and then turn back upstage....especially in groups?
Was it Clyde Fitch?
-
LOL yes DR JEANNE....Mr Merlin the Cat has a cleansed aura and a balanced chakra.....we should all be so lucky.
-
Question for DR PENNYO when she comes back:
Have you seen or used the One World Tarot Deck?
http://www.learntarot.com/ondesc.htm (http://www.learntarot.com/ondesc.htm)
It is an interesting looking set. ;D I am intrigued.
-
Jrand - That taking the step then doing the Clyde Fitch maneuver is sometimes referred to as the "step and Fitch it" maneuver.
You can't make this stuff up.
-
Do you wear them with heels or flats?
YOU may wear them with heels, but as I stand at six foot two I find them unnecessary.
And barefoot is much more in my beatnik style, man.
-

I knew one of the HHW Theatre Professionals would know....I had heard that the Step and Fitch It was obsolete or at least not PC....until I saw some of the songs in DR NOEL's clip. 8)

Capri pants are always worn with sandals....but the sandals are not worn on the feet, but carried casually in the left hand.

SUCH GOOD FRIENDS did not use the Step and Fitch It, btw.

Noel's show came off extremely well!
Made me buy my tickets.
-
YOU may wear them with heels, but as I stand at six foot two I find them unnecessary.

I dunno, man...."capri" pants was what YOU came up with. I don't wear women's clothes, so I had to defer to your experience..

Do you paint your toenails or go au naturel?

I, too, would like to know if Noel knows about some NYMF show that hasn't played by the rehearsal rules - I certainly don't and I know quite a few people involved in quite a few shows.
I do hope he's not alluding to the fact that our show and several others were allowed BY NYMF to pay a little extra to get in last Sunday to do some pre-tech load in stuff, not that it made that much difference to us in the long run - it was four hours, but for us and the other shows involved (about six) there was no rehearsing going on - certainly for my cast members it was a day off, although three people came down to look at a couple of set pieces that were in the theater.
As far as I know the one thing this festival has been, for better or for worse, is a level playing field, except, of course, those eight shows that were chosen to be in the big press event. The only show that has completely disregarded every single NYMF rule is the always-mentioned Roller Derby. I should think Noel would want to clarify his remarks because they certainly have confused me and others. Thanks.
-
Hmm... I wonder if Mrs. Quaid had anything to do with this:
Love Gone Wrong: Lone Star Love Cancels Broadway Engagement (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111291.html)
I just read that myself. I'm sorry now that I didn't take the opportunity to see this. :-\
-
I'm heading back down to finish WHAT ABOUT BRIEN so I can move on to something more entertaining - tonight on TV and maybe tomorrow on DVD.
WBBL.

I don't wear no wimmen's close!
I wear He-Man Brand Capri pants.

We've got a quorum on the forum.
-
Think I'll watch a DVD this fine evening. We are indeed being allowed to go in early tomorrow to make sure all the sound issues are fixed and working.
-
Capri pants are always worn with sandals....but the sandals are not worn on the feet, but carried casually in the left hand.
Aw, you know ALL the fashion rules! ;)

Will we never get to page thirteen?
-
It's a beautiful day here in NY. I did get the tracking number for the Fed Ex Ground package, so all is well.
-
Aw, you know ALL the fashion rules! ;)
Knows them and USES them, too! :D
-
Some NYMF shows are deemed more promotable, whether by virtue of having a stunning graphic or else some marketable names. NYMF is upfront about the fact that their press reps' job is to promote the Festival as a whole. Shows got chosen for that press conference, coverage of which is appearing proverbially everywhere and giving a great advantage to those nine shows, not based on any objective standard or anyone's vision of quality, but based on promotability in drawing attention to NYMF in general. (I do wonder if Rob Evan is at least as big a name as many on that press conference, but it wasn't my decision, of course. :) ). Stars and names attract attention, whether we like it or not - i's not always about the writing.
-
Jokes deleted as being too cryptic... :-\
-
Still undecided about the TOD....
I played Hero in a local production about 15(!) years ago and our director also played Hysterium. He screwed up the lyrics to "I'm Calm" every once in a while, but he's such a nice guy and a real good actor, that he could save it.
-
Did I miss some cryptic jokes? Damn.

Do you paint your toenails or go au naturel?
I do not paint my toenails.
And if I were to go au naturel, I wouldn't be wearing those capris, now would I!

I just felt like saying that - it's a cryptic joke.

For the page thirteen dance, just imagine Rob and Laura Petrie.
-
Ran into a producer friend on the street - he's coming to see the show. I must say our two 4:30 performances are really light, attendance-wise. We're fine for tomorrow and more than fine for closing night. But those two late-afternoon shows are way too sparse, not just for The Brain but, from what I'm told, all the shows that have to play those late-afteroon timeslots.
-
We had an exec from the Sci-Fi channel at Friday's show - he seemed to really like the show, so I'll be calling him next week when I'm back in LA.

Happy Birthday to Mei-Ling.....

Here is a cryptic joke:
A guy goes into a bar and sits down and orders a drink. He hears, "Say, lookin' good there." He looks around but doesn't see anyone nearby. A moment later, he hears someone saying, "Nice suit, too." He looks around, can't figure out who's talking to him. A moment later he hears, "Have you lost weight - I've never seen you look this toned." Again he looks around and doesn't see anyone. He calls the bartender over and says, "Excuse me, but someone's been saying really nice things, only I don't know who it is because there's no one but me sitting here." The bartender says, "It's the peanuts - they're complimentary.

I know many CRYPTICS who go to the Theatre,Write about the Theatre and don't know a damn of what they are writing about.
Theatre Cryptics-as in the song A Little Priest-Have No Taste at all.

Did anyone here see Grindhouse in the theaters? I've got Death Proof here, which was the closer of Grindhouse - it's expanded from the theatrical release (Grindhouse being a double feature and coming attractions, all designed to replicate seeing a double bill in the seeky 42nd St. grindhouses of the seventies and eighties) - just curious how much has been added and if anyone's heard if they'll eventually release this as it played theatrically? The first half of the double bill comes out in a couple of weeks - Planet Terror.

Man is diagnosed with diverticultis. Doctor tells him and his wife that he has to cut out that cup of cashews he has with his cocktails every night. the drinks are Ok, but no more cashews.

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE was on TCM yesterday.
I figured you and MBarnum would have been GLUED to your TVs while it aired.
Then again, you probably already have it in your collections.
Still, I know I find myself watching films airing on TV that I have on DVD.
Dunno why....

I don't know if there are any fans of the original version of NIGHT OF THE LIVIND DEAD, but I read today that Karl Hardman who played the memorable Harry Cooper just died. He was wonderful in that film...here is a shot of him and his reel (and real) wife Marilyn Eastman.
Tonight, we have our first rehearsal for Night of the Living Dead! The Musical! I'll bring this along to see if anyone else has heard. Thanks for posting.

Jane, that's wonderful news about DD Sherlock! May he continue to stay well!! ;D
-
Yeah - the shows went great - Friday's audience laughed at everything - stuff i didn't even know was funny was apparently hilarious. I loved it!
So did I!! ;D

;D
"Torchwood" is a fun show in a sort of "if only the world were really like this" sort of way. Otherwise, it's really rather tame, IMO. Barrowman, despite the omnisexual bit, is really rather a one-dimensional overseer of the project...chastising one moment and praising the next. But he's really rather uninteresting compared to the rest of the characters...again, IMO. And this is only after three episodes.
It's interesting, but I don't find myself yearning for the next episode.

I like it on the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN studio recording when the conductor asks Lina what key she will be singing in:
Kathy: (behind the curtain) A flat.
Lina: (to the conductor) ....a flat...
According to the IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045152/) listing for "Singin' In the Rain," under the "Goofs (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045152/goofs)" section:
At the end when Kathy will sing "Singin' in the Rain" for Lena, Lena is asked "What key should the song be played in." She says "A-flat". The band leader says, "Singin' in the Rain in A-flat", and then proceeds to conduct the song in E-flat. ;D

bk, do you like the Howard Shore score for the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Do you feel it stands up to some of the great film composers of the past?
-
I know I'm in the minority about the LOTR score, and it's not really fair of me to judge as I haven't seen the films yet (I know, I know - as soon as I've got nine hours to spare I'll watch them), but as a listening experience I didn't care for the scores at all, and I'm a huge Shore fan. But my favorite scores by him were written over twenty years ago.
-
Of film music today, the only composers I feel are offering original-sounding scores (and not scores where they're just aping some temp track) are Pascal Esteve, Philippe Rombi (he's the best of the batch), Alexandre Desplat's foreign films (yes, the ones where he's not imitating someone else's music as he does in his US films), Krishna Levi, and a handful of other foreign-born composers, most especially Joe Hisaishi.
-
Perhaps Fred Phelps and his followers should move to Iran. Iran's president has assured the world today that there are NO homosexuals in Iran. :P
Yeah, just like they have a zero tolerance for religious fanatics. :P :P
-
Thanks for your opinions, bk. Granted, film music isn't really my "thing," but I have to admit I've never heard of ANY of those contemporary composers!
-
I know I'm in the minority about the LOTR score, and it's not really fair of me to judge as I haven't seen the films yet (I know, I know - as soon as I've got nine hours to spare I'll watch them)...
Oh, no, you have to take longer! The extended editions (on DVD) are much better. Fortunately Davis made sensible divisions in the DVDs, putting the breaks between each film's two discs at places that make for good "act breaks," so the viewing can be extended to six nights without destroying the trilogy's impact.
(In a sense, this makes the films more complementary to the original Tolkein novels, which are divided into six books, two per volume.)
-
Obviously, der B and I are back from the store. While there, I realized that my late shift tomorrow required shopping for tomorrow's dinner tonight, so we'll be feasting on tilapia, broccoli and fries.

CRYPTIC JOKE:
A skeleton walks into a bar with a parrot on its shoulder.
The bartender says, "That's really fascinating! Wherever did you get it?"
"Around the corner at the cemetery," responded the parrot, "there's THOUSANDS of 'em."
-
The composers I referenced are all foreign-born - only Desplat has written for American films (The Girl In The Pearl Earring, Syriana). Pascal Esteve wrote a great score for Patrice Leconte's Intimate Confessions, Krishna Levi wrote the faboo background score to Francois Ozon's 8 Women, and Mr. Rombi has written some glorious scores all to French films, including Ozon's latest, Angel.
-
Joe Hisaishi, of course, is the composer of all the Hayao Miyazaki anime classics like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Naausicca, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc.
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from a wonderful day spent with Ma and Son Murphy. We started at Levain, walked across Central Park, around the Upper East Side for a bit, down Fifth Avenue, spent some time in Takashimaya, then back over to Hell's Kitchen to pick up some music at Binder Casting* (where I also took the time to introduce DR Cason to some of the casting agents and associtates there), and then back home.
*bk - Someone, sometime from Binder Casting will be seeing The Brain this week - they're still coordinating schedules, but they promised that one if not two of them will see the show this week.
-
Was there a character called Mother Mucca from Winnemucca in the Tales of the City sequel? Or was that already mentioned here?
Armistead Maupin and partner have recently been touring The Daintree Rainforest area of Queensland's Tropical North - with my friend Jim as their bus driver. Michael Toliver lives.
-
**And while walking through Rockefeller Center, I stopped into Teuscher Chocolates to pick up a small box of Champagne Truffles... For the folks at Binder Casting. :)
-
DR Jane - Wonderful news about your Miracle Goofus. :)
-
I am not sure which part of GORILLA AT LARGE was more unsettling....the revelation of the true killer or Cameron Mitchell with VERY blond hair.
-
Now I am watching MEPHISTO WALTZ with a score by Jerry Goldsmith and Liszt.
-
At long last I've made it to page eleven.
-
Champagne truffles are the perfect accessory for capri pants.
-
bk - I think DR Noel was just saying that because his show performs this weekend, today is their company's day off. Which is done according to the AEA rules. That's all. He was "just sayin'", not "accusin'".
As for any NYMF shows not following the work-week rule, well, that would be VERY hard to do with Equity stage managers and actors involved. And if that rule had been breached, well, then the whole company would have had the "option" to leave the production then and there.
-
Champagne truffles are the perfect accessory for capri pants.
Sunglasses, a long black cigarette holder and a cheese danish, too; then I'll see you at the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th Street. Please bring $50.00. . .for the powder room.
-
*However, like DR SWW's work-week contract, the AEA contract also has a similar clause. As long as one full-day off is provided within a seven-day period, it is possibly to work 12 days in a row. -And I've worked on shows where that has been the case many times. That scenario usually comes into play during tech weeks, or when a major holiday happens to break up the standard work-week in the middle.
-
I just read that myself. I'm sorry now that I didn't take the opportunity to see this. :-\
Isn't the show running in Seattle through this coming weekend?
-
DR Jane - Wonderful news about your Miracle Goofus. :)
;D Thank you.
I see you have been buys being the best walking tour guide in New York. :)
-
after catching up 15 pages. I need a rest!
-
Thanks DR 3D....I have never added a comment, so I think that can be optional. Appreciate the help! 8)
I voted for you....and said I love the people who work there, they always make my day
-
der B, thanks for the extra plug for THE WAR. I will be interested in hearing your take on the series.
My Dad could only watch part of it...too many memories and he didn't fight. He played the trombone. He was at Ft Dix between WWII and Korea. He told me tonight he was 13 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and he recounted in detail walking downtown with his dad, who he saw, what they said. It was hard.
Their neighbor was a pilot, I think in the Pacific. He said he just couldn't watch.
-
Joanne Worley - does she swing her pearls in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
YES!
*And I saw her yesterday at the Broadway Cares Flea Market - they had a few strands of her pearls for sale and at the silent auction. She even swung them around for the "winners", and I believe I saw her giving a lesson to one or two them too.
-
after catching up 15 pages. I need a rest!
Or how about a piece of Monkey Cake?
Or a Levain Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie?
Or a Freddo Frog?
Or a Vegemite Sandwich?
-
Cilla, how is Callie today?
Her eye still looked a little sore this morning. At noon I decided to come home and check one more time before calling the vet (I told Callie in the morning if it didn't get better she had to go to the doctor) Lo and behold, it was looking fine when I came home. It's a titch red around the edges right now, but not running at all, so I think she's getting over it.
-
I must say our two 4:30 performances are really light, attendance-wise.
Yes, but such a QUALITY audience!
-
Browsing around on other sites, I've just come across what has to be one of the least tasteful advertising lines ever.
"Kotex fits. Period."
:P
LOL, not if you've ever had the products that don't fit...then it sounds pretty good.
-
Champagne truffles are the perfect accessory for capri pants.
See? The fashion maven again!
-
That last sentence came out wrong. But you know what i meant.
I'll be at FJL's opening....that doesn't sound good does it, lol. But can't wait!
-
My dog has a lodge?
Your dog has a mighty fine tasting beer...I like it with an orange slice in it
Oh - this link leads to a Blue Moon T-Shirt and Cap

Champagne truffles are the perfect accessory for capri pants.
LOL!!
Do you think leopard print capris are a little too much or just very stylish? And what sort of heels would you wear with them?
-
We had an exec from the Sci-Fi channel at Friday's show - he seemed to really like the show, so I'll be calling him next week when I'm back in LA.
That sounds like a fun possibility
-
Tales from the Cryptic - Didn't people like it better when we didn't talk so openly?
Better than Tales from the Syptic....started as a bloody mess I hear
-
When I cut myself shaving I use a cryptic pencil.
Oh, I hadn't read this before I posted
-
This afternoon I looked in my yard, and this is what I saw:
-
I think leopard-spotted capri pants are perfect.
-
Cool Laura. You must have good eyesight. I doubt I would have seen that.
-
We had an exec from the Sci-Fi channel at Friday's show - he seemed to really like the show, so I'll be calling him next week when I'm back in LA.
That sounds exciting! :D
-
Isn't the show running in Seattle through this coming weekend?
It is, but I'm busy just about every night. And I don't get paid until Friday, so, even if I was free, I don't have enough money. :P
Unless...my sister might be able to help me. ;) I'll have to check the rehearsal schedule first to see if something's possible.
-
Perhaps Fred Phelps and his followers should move to Iran. Iran's president has assured the world today that there are NO homosexuals in Iran. :P
Perhaps we could take donations to send him and his followers to Iran....forever
-
PBS to Air Mahagonny with LuPone and McDonald in December (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111313.html)!!
-
This afternoon I looked in my yard, and this is what I saw:
Cool photo, I thought you were going to say you saw this as you were driving and just happened to catch this photo out the window ;)
-
Make sure to give us a warm hand on our open....oh wait better not start that up again.
-
Is post #8700 a milestone?
-
It is if you want it to be, Fred. :)
-
Happy 8700th
-
I'm watching The War. They are showing the bombers. My uncle flew bombing missions over Germany. Now I know why he never talked about it.
-
Great job on the 8700! ;D
-
And since I'm so close...
-
Thanks for the congrats on 8700, George and Cilla. :)
-
bk - I think DR Noel was just saying that because his show performs this weekend, today is their company's day off.
Go read his post again - there was a clear inference that some NYMF shows had somehow abused this or other rules. Just sayin' and I'm not the only one who noticed it, and darling Noel has actually just avoided saying what he meant, which is all I asked, because I was curious just who the post was directed to. :-*

This is my 14,400th Post!
;)

Magnus
-
Fosca.
-
Beautiful dogs, Tomovoz. I miss having a dog.
-
Make sure to give us a warm hand on our open....oh wait better not start that up again.
That classic line is one of Roger Rees's favorite "greetings". Although, in classic English manner...
"Let me take this time to be the first one to extend a warm hand on your opening."
-
Magnus
Magnus is a cutie....Callie says to thank him for the vibes and let him know she's feeling much better
-
Fosca.
She says the same to the handsome Fosca. Boo says....where is my toy....why aren't you playing with me???
-
Land of the Triffids
-
Beautiful doggie pix.....and thanks for the link, DR CILLA LIZ.
DR KERRY....of course with leopard spotted capri pants one would wear a BIG belt, an off the shoulder peasant shirt, and crushy black ballet slippers...if one wished.
-
DR JOSE why are you not taking MR BK to Splash for the special Monday evening festivities?
-
For sci-fi shows, us Brooklyn folks wish people a warm tentacle on Uranus.
-
(Or is it a warm testicle, i forget.)
-
Oops, I forgot, this is a famiglia site
-
message passed on to Magnus & Fosca. They wish good health to all (even Cats - not that they are numbered in their close friends. Rabbits seem to be close friends as do possums)
-
(Or is it a warm testicle, i forget.)
:o :o
-
Wasn't there a Kids Say The Darnedest Things where a kid wished he could be an octopus so that he could beat up the other kids with his testicles?
-
Thanks for the vote and comment, DR CILLA LIZ. It should show up in the next couple of days.
Thanks to everyone!!
-
Thanks for the vote and comment, DR CILLA LIZ. It should show up in the next couple of days.
Thanks to everyone!!
Well it's the truth....you work there and you always make my day ;D
-
Love the dogs, Tomovoz!
-
Wasn't there a Kids Say The Darnedest Things where a kid wished he could be an octopus so that he could beat up the other kids with his testicles?
Exactly.....
And of course the way things are going, some of us would as likely have one as the other.....if any. 8)
-
Well, it's time for me to get going. Off to the first rehearsal!
Pray for Rosemary's Baby!!
;)
-
Well it's the truth....you work there and you always make my day ;D
Twue, twue. ;D Thank you.
-
I love Spring
-
One child also told Art Linkletter that he would like to grow up to be an actress like Jack Benny.
-
Thank you George and all.
Woofs to Uncle Jose.
-
Nashi blossoms!!!!
And preying manti....where else on ALL the inner nit?

This afternoon we took a drive, and this is what we saw:
the old mill on Mill Avenue:

DR Sandra's favorite pizza place:
The light rail station under construction:

Gammage Theater, where we see the touring shows:

We wondered if we should hurry in and get some gas before the price went up:
The county court buildings. Cillaliz will recognize them.
-
Another interesting tour of the area!!!
-
Astute readers will recognise the bird feeder. Inside the windows on the left is where I sit at the PC.
-
DR JOSE why are you not taking MR BK to Splash for the special Monday evening festivities?
I was actually thinking of heading to Splash tonight, but decided tonight would be a good night to put my feet up for a while.
-
DR Laura, I wondered if Monti's was still there. I recognize Gammage, the building by the light rail, the Old Courthouse and the East Court Building. ECB is where I tried most of my cases while I was in Phoenix
-
Article in today's NY Times about those annoying, animated bottom-of-screen promos on television that we've discussed. Here (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/24/business/media/24clutter.html?_r=1&th=&oref=slogin&emc=th&pagewanted=print).
and a pain in the neck if you use closed captioning.
-
Thanks for the vote and comment, DR CILLA LIZ. It should show up in the next couple of days.
Thanks to everyone!!
Welcome and good luck :)
-
Happy Birthday Wae-Ling!
-
Speaking of voting on things...my mother was watching DWS while I'm watching the War, she told me Marie Osmond said, with all the Osmonds voting for her, she'll be on for a long time - or something like that
-
Doggie and spring pics. Thank you Tomovoz. I like that I can now imagine you working at the PC and watching your garden.
-
Just saw Peter's credit as a Co-Producer.
-
and a pain in the neck if you use closed captioning.
I can imagine. It is bad enough when they do those over sub-titles, let alone the entire show in closed caption.
-
Cilla, I meant to comment earlier, good news about Callie. Does she continue to improve?
-
In post after post, notes after notes, BK, you've made a certain complaint, and all my post intended to do was to agree with you about how unfair it is when some shows spend 3 or 4 times what our signed side-letter says we're allowed to spend.
Each NYMF show should face roughly similar constraints, including budget caps, so that the "deep pockets" - the rich participants - can't steal thunder from the working Joes (like me, FJL and BK). With an UN-level playing field, a show with greased wheels, so to speak, can buy itself some momentum.
I hope I haven't been too cryptic in a day filled with apparently-too-cryptic posts. I know nothing about any other NYMF shows. I don't have time to collect gossip, as I'm embroiled in the final fine-tuning for mine. Only one show in this festival took out an ad in the Times, and that must have cost more than the entire budget for Such Good Friends. Only one show had an invited dress, because their space goes unshared with any other show. I thought my reference to a level playing field was clearly seconding your emotion, but it seems some didn't get this. I'm sorry if this post seems dour, and to remedy this, I'll make a really complex pun in my next post.
-
Cilla, I meant to comment earlier, good news about Callie. Does she continue to improve?
Yes, she's been better every day. Now that her sneezing and teary eye are better, she's almost as good as new. I'm not worried abnout leaving her as long as my cat sitter is checking her every day.
-
Currently watching "The Bachelor"...
Yes, the guy is hot. Yes, the women seem to be "stupid" - they all seem to be talking with that same "Omigod!" cadence. But again, the guy is hot. ;)
-
I'm watching The War. They are showing the bombers. My uncle flew bombing missions over Germany. Now I know why he never talked about it.
I missed the first episode & can't get it again until all the episodes have aired. I guess I will try to TIVO, save & watch them in order.
-
Nice FORUM photo Jrand!
-
One night the original Broadway cast of The Drowsy Chaperone decided to act out the Academy Award winning film, Forrest Gump. Of course, Bob Martin does a great Tom Hanks. Sutton Foster took the Robin Wright Penn part. Kecia Lewis-Evans crossed genders to impersonate Mykelti Williamson. Eddie Korbich modulated his voice in that Sinise way. And yes, DRs, that night The Drowsy Chaperone had a Leavel playing Field.

When we did the show, we were told that there was no recording of the show. And my music is sadly long gone.
-
DR Ben - Which songs do you need? I have the version that was first done at Arena Stage way back when. The show has undergone some major changes since then, so... But.. ???
Have you checked YouTube yet?
-
Fed Ex was weird. Their computers wouldn't process any "ground" shipments - the guy before me had the problem and then I did. I left them my cc number and they're supposed to call me with a tracking number. I was not thrilled to leave my package there and not have a tracking number. In fact, I'm going to call over there momentarily.
It was a system wide problem with Ground today. We had the same problem in Florida
-
Mother Mucca from Winnemucca was indeed in More Tales of the City, both book and miniseries. She was not in Further Tales of the City, the book, but was added to the televersion.
Mainly because of Jackie Borroughs wonderful performance and the fans wanted to see more of her.
-
PBS to Air Mahagonny with LuPone and McDonald in December (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111313.html)!!
Who sings "Do You Know Where You're Going To"?
-
LOL Michael.
-
Hi Michael. How are you feeling?
-
Wonderful news about DD Sherlock... I hope he continues on the road of good health...
-
Love the album covers you made Jrand!
-
Did anyone here see Grindhouse in the theaters? I've got Death Proof here, which was the closer of Grindhouse - it's expanded from the theatrical release (Grindhouse being a double feature and coming attractions, all designed to replicate seeing a double bill in the seeky 42nd St. grindhouses of the seventies and eighties) - just curious how much has been added and if anyone's heard if they'll eventually release this as it played theatrically? The first half of the double bill comes out in a couple of weeks - Planet Terror.
I saw it in theaters.
I believe they added about 30 minutes to it including the "missing ree" When it showed in the theaters. There was a "break" in the film and then a card that said "reel missing".
Actually 24 minutes
This happened in both films.
Grindhouse was way too long. It was over three hours including the coming attractions (which I thought were better than the films.)
The movies They should have been somwhere between 70-80 minutes to be effective. It would have been better if it clocked in around 2hrs and a half.
-
Voted Jrand!!
-
Hi Michael. How are you feeling?
My back is in pain. Going to see a doctor. It took a few weeks to flair up.
-
That ep of Torchwood was particularly good, though. You'll enjoy it.
I have enjoyed Torchwood...
-
Wonderful news about DD Sherlock... I hope he continues on the road of good health...
:D We will continue to do what we have been doing. Have I mentioned lately what a big sweet boy he is ;D
One of the reasons I didn't want another pet, same argument before we got our Echo, was my tendency to obsess-LOL-Keith is even worse than I am.
-
Michael S, that can happen. I hope with some stretches & treatments of some sort your back will quickly improve.
-
'night.
-
VIBES to all the shows that HHWers are involved with: Brain, Last Starfighter and Such Good Friends!
-
There were some REAL dumb bunnies on Jeopardy last week....I am hoping they are digging in a new barrel of contestants this week.
DBF had the same comment about Jeopardy last week. He actually tried out for the show once

Do any of you DRs out here in the dark use "Skype" for international phone calls?
-
Do any of you DRs out here in the dark use "Skype" for international phone calls?
I don't use it, but I have friends who swear by it, and use it for all their long distance phone calls whenever possible - domestic and international.
-
I'm watching The War. They are showing the bombers. My uncle flew bombing missions over Germany. Now I know why he never talked about it.
My uncle was an air force colonel who flew bombers over Japan.
During the Korean Conflict, my uncle was Marilyn Monroe's official escort on her USO tour - he used to joke that HE was the real reason MM left Joe Dimaggio. ;)
-
Sorry folks, I am only half way through today's posts, but I am going to have to call it quits now and try to catch up later. Not a good night tonight.
-
My back is in pain. Going to see a doctor. It took a few weeks to flair up.
DR Michael S, after my wreck my neck was sore and it took several months to get back to normal. When I edit, all the tension goes to my neck and shoulders. Stretching and ice packs helped me a lot. (As well as a few visits to the chiropractor!)
-
I've received Skype phone calls but never used it to call out. The sound quality was as good as the telephone.
-
Congrats on your new milestone FJL!
-
Goodnight, TCB. Sweet dreams---be sure to sleep on the good shoulder!
-
BEautiful photos Tom... Magnus and Fosca look beautiful as does your garden...
-
Will we never get to page thirteen?
Probably.
-
Thanks DR Jose. I've only used it to speak with a friend in the UK. I'm impressed so far (with the system).
-
Thanks you DR Dakota. Fosca dislikes cameras!
-
I love Spring
simply beautiful!
-
Alas, we are now entering fall and then winter...
-
Matt H.-
Did you ever view Anne Of The Thousand Days and Mary,Queen of Scots??
When I finished the set for WHAT ABOUT BRIAN tonight, I had 20 minutes left to watch something before the beginning of prime time. I picked out FORBIDDEN PLANET just because I could skip though it to get to a few scenes I wanted to see on the new TV. On this larger screen and at 1080p, I noticed more grain than I did in my previous TV. Flesh tones also seesawed back and forth between pale and richly saturated. Very strange.
-
Well, I scored my anticipated 99 bars today. Tomorrow morning, I have some work at Toyland, a trip to the copyist with the first 25 pages of score, and then to the performance of "The Brain." As soon as the show is over, though, I've got to get back to finish the next 100 bars or so.
-

We wondered if we should hurry in and get some gas before the price went up:
I am jealous... up until last weekend we were paying over 3.00! WE are not down to 2.79
For several weeks we have actually paid more than parts of California for gas!
-
Will we never get to page fourteen?
Maybe.
-

99 bars on th score today, 99 bars on the score.....
That's all I can do, the rest doesn't make sense
-
Thanks also DR Edi. My experience is "clarity" also.
-
Feel better vibes for TCB!!
-
Pain free vibes for Micheal!
-
Who sings "Do You Know Where You're Going To"?
DR singdaw will sing it, following his rendition of "The Waters of March," which is guaranteed to earn him a standing ovation - even from several audience members who remain seated. ;)
-
Tom, an acquaintance from oz sent me TimTam and they did not last... They are wonderful....
I am hoping to make a road trip to a store in St. Cloud sometime next month to get some more.
-
Dr Cillaliz, my Dad is the same way. He would not see SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, because he lost most of his army friends there on the beach. He would not be around and I would not be here if he hadn't been in a jeep that rolled and crushed his foot. He served the rest of his duty in the mail room. The crushed foot has plagued him ever since and is the reason he is now in a wheelchair and is classified as a paralyzed vet. But at least he's still here.
I didn't recommend THE WAR to him. And I've decided to wait and buy the DVD's, too. Our local PBS station isn't broadcasting it in hi-def, so the picture is little and I know I will be missing some episodes and would rather watch the whole thing than bits and pieces here and there.
The episode Ken showed at the Full Frame festival, where we premiered our film, was episode 3. Excellent, as is the whole series.
There are extras tacked on to the end of certain episodes that deal with Native American and Hispanic soldiers. It seems that representatives from these groups thought there was not enough content about their contribution and threatened to boycott PBS and its sponsors so Peter had to round up stories and shoot even more interviews just when they thought they were done! They turned out well, though, I thought.

not an albino Triffid

99 bars on th score today, 99 bars on the score.....
That's all I can do, the rest doesn't make sense
Well, how about..
99 measures of music to score
99 measures to score
Break one down
Write out the sounds
98 measures of music to score...
-
I wish I could stay thru Monday night. Not only will I miss the Plaza music and fireworks, and Splash, but I won't get to do my usual jazz crawl at St. Nicholas' pub and Lucy's. If only I had known I would be out of work!
-
I read taht also Edi and it was an issue that some native groups in ND raised...
Interestingly it has opened in a couple MN towns that have a connection to the film.
-
Well, how about..
99 measures of music to score
99 measures to score
Break one down
Write out the sounds
98 measures of music to score...
Yeah that's what I meant ;) That's great
-
I feel a millstone coming on.
-
Beautiful pics Tom!
-
Congrats Edi on your new milestone!
-
The Dogs do have an interesting playground in which to play with the friendly rabbits!
-
Love it, DR Jose!
-
I finally finished WHAT ABOUT BRIAN, much to my relief. I never thought it rose beyond mediocre. Not a terrible show, but I didn't think the writing was ever really very good. I was invested in the marriage, break-up, and make-up of the Deena-Dave marriage. I thought that was the only relationship that was even halfway well thought out (and even then the open marriage stuff was sloppy and so NOT what open marriage means.) But the other two main guys had these revolving door love lives that I thought kept the show rootless and pointless. Why invest interest in relationships you knew weren't going to last or that would break up for the silliest of reasons? Motivations for these characters are beyond weak.
-
Congrats on your new milestone, DR edi!
-
Congrats Edi
Beautiful garden Tomovoz
-
We are now moving into my favorite seasons, fall and winter.
-
Thanks, Dakota!
Tom, your garden is beautiful...I'm so jealous. The drought has killed so much here and we're on a watering ban. I'm afraid my huge purple rhododendron is history, and it was the most beautiful thing in the yard.
Waaaahhh!
-
Steps to the new plateau. Congratulations to the DRs on their achieving of new gall stones.
-
Tom, what a peaceful place to sit and read...
-
My kodak cx7330 is close to death I fear!
-
Edi, i have heard about the horrendous drought you have had down there. Another lady i know from Palmer, GA has said the saem thing and she dug most of her flowers since they have died. She stated that her shrubs are a sorry state.
-

Thank you for the clarification - your post really was cryptic to a few of us. I agree with what you say, which is obvious from my posts. Someone just posted on one of those boards that NYMF isn't a level-playing field and that if shows have more money to spend, that's great. That person is an idiot and has no idea how NYMF began or what its aims were. And he just does the usual Internet thing by saying the budgets are twentyK (not true - they are 15K with the exception of the actors and rehearsals). Equity makes it quite clear and you have to submit costs and budgets at the end of the run. Obviously either people lie or Equity turns a blind eye to shows like Roller Derby. There is no way they can turn in a budget of 15K when that ad cost 20, at least. There is no way they can turn in a budget of 15K when they rented their own theater and hired a very costly and sizable running crew. Nothing to do with being dour - it's creepy and wrong and even though it sounds like we're all bellyaching, the fact is they have abused just about every NYMF rule there is - point being, either the festival has rules or they don't - either everyone abides by them or they don't.
-
The forecast for Saturday looks great! Greg and I are going out to Coney Island to visit it before it gets redeveloped. Any HHWers who want to join us would be most welcome!
-
We have severe drought restrictions DR Edi. NO watering of gardens. Mulching has paid dividends.
-
Anyone going to the Friday afternoon BRAIN? I am going to try to sneak in an extra show and boost the box office.
-
In the bonus features, the creator/writer/producer admitted that they had no intention of ever letting Brian settle for one girl. They always planned on there being a "revolving door" of girl friends for him. Bad decision, I think. I think the high percentage of women who watched the show (the ratings were heavily female-centric) wanted to see Brian not swapping out girls every few weeks.
The unaired episode would have been the season finale for the first season with cliffhangers about Nicole and Angelo trying to adopt a baby, Majorie breaking up with Adam before leaving him at the altar, and Deena and Dave squabbling about their cheating at their daughters' ballet recital. This episode was better left unaired.
-
This is my 14,400th Post!
;)
Feeling ignored, George?
-
Matt, I do not recall that show at all...
-
I thought CHUCK was delightful. I've been a BIG fan of Zachery Levi's since LESS THAN PERFECT, and, of course, Adam Baldwin is THE MAN. Funny, exciting, a wonderful light little caper show.
-
BK, have you ever seen the documentary about the Z Channel?
I worked on a few things that aired on it, back in the 80's but I never got to see the channel itself.
-
The forecast for Saturday looks great! Greg and I are going out to Coney Island to visit it before it gets redeveloped. Any HHWers who want to join us would be most welcome!
Let's talk Friday night. I don't know what Sam wants to do, but I've never been there and she may get a kick out of it.
-
I noticed in the tributes to Mr Marco that there was no mention of him ever winning a Grammy Award.

HEROES certainly had some surprises though I have to admit that I didn't care for Molly at all tonight, and Claire's story wasn't too interesting except for her adorable new boy friend (and a nice surprise with that).
Loved the Hiro scenes; his story arc is going to be wonderful (he's obviously going to end up being the hero and not take credit for it, but it'll be fun to see regardless).
I was glad they didn't try to cram too many heroes into tonight's story. There's plenty of time to catch up with all of them.

I have wondered why BK is not member #1. Seems like he should be!
-
A friend of ours is shooting something in White Plains on Sunday and is hoping that Greg can record sound. It would involve his taking a train from Manhattan to White Plains. We have no idea how early trains would start running on Sunday. Any thoughts?
He will be back in time for SGF, though.
-
Edi - is your internet working or are you somewhere else?
-

Must return him for THE BRAIN!

We're mooching off the neighbors. Greg and I are both able to get 2 bars. He hooked up the network in my little office, and our computers are seeing it, but there's still something not connecting.
-
Edi - You're gonna have a high-flying sci-fi double feature if you do that on Friday.
-
He has also been asked by Peter to do some work on our egg cream film. He has been working so much and has more work when he comes back. And this is supposed to be a vacation...oh boy...

I'm ready! Boy, we have been entertainment deprived for so long that I'm going to soak it up!
"Go, Alex, Go, Alex!"
-
Edi, it's so good to have you back at HHW!!
-
So good to be back, too!

I wonder if DR Jose has ever taken part in Coney Island's The Hot Piano Society:
First Saturday of the Month
The Hot Piano Society is an informal get together with an open piano. We just keep a list of who wants to play and what they want to play. The scope of music we welcome includes ragtime, stride, trad jazz, boogie woogie and like minded music.
Free!
The Coney Island Museum
1208 Surf Ave.

Yes, that's what I meant! LOL!

DR edi - The trains to White Plains almost run around the clock from Grand Central - Hudson River Line.
You can check for schedules HERE (http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm).

I grew up a block away from the Cyclone in Coney Island, in the area formerly knwon as Luna Park amusement park.

I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line....
-
Good grief...I'm busier than a hooker on nickel night.
Sorry I haven't been around much lately.
But, I have good news! Broadway called. I'm going into HAIRSPRAY!!! Here's the first of my promotional shots... Whaddya think??

They've decided to go with a new format...a man in drag is going to play Tracy and a woman is going to play Edna. Guess who's Tracy?!?!?!
(Just kidding...but wouldn't that be fun??)
-

And whenever I would take the train up to Vassar (Poughkeepsie), I always smiled when I passed "Cold Spring Harbor". And I've also driven through Highland Falls, but in the spring not the summer. ;)

HEY! That's my line!!!
-
Jason, you've lost too much weight to play Tracy!!!
-
JOURNEYMAN ended up being quite excellent. It reminded me of the way both MEDIUM and last year's show RAINES worked. Lots of seeming unconnected pieces that are cleverly connected by the end of the hour. I'll continue watching this one, especially since Reed Diamond, another BIG favorite of mine, is playing McKidd's brother in the series.

Well, why not have both the mother and daughter be played by men? Heck, with all those "Frankie Camp" alumni from Jersey Boys, I'm sure they wouldn't have to change any keys.
*And then have Wilbur played by a woman in drag.
-
Tomorrow I'll watch the two shows I recorded tonight: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and CSI: MIAMI.
-
Will we see you Saturday at Legally Blonde?
Nope...Saturday I'll be at AVENUE Q. :-\
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!

Oh boo. Who will we buy yoga pants from ????? I take that back if I was in those yoga pants it wouldn't be OMIGOD it would OH MY GOD!!!

The one thing I really want to do while we are there is to go up on top of the Empire State or Top of the Rock at night. I've only been up there during the day and I think it would be really cool to see the lights

I believe there is a discount for Top of the Rock via seasonofsavings.com.
However, Top of the Rock now offers a day/night pass too.
-
What a day...
Anyway, enough about me. I'm guessing you all want photos from DR Jose's walking tour of NYC for DR's MissKaren and Cason, huh?

do you recommend it over the empire state?

Thank you, Jose! I guess this means he doesn't have an excuse not to work.
At least I can write off his trip!

Have you seen Rick Burns' amazing documentary CONEY ISLAND? It's the film that led me into wanting to make documentaries full time. I love it!

We started off, of course, with a stop by Levain Bakery.
We got one of each cookie (the breakfast of champions, huh?) -
*Chocolate Chip Walnut
*Dark Chocolate with Peanut Butter Chips
*Oatmeal Raisin
and the one I couldn't wait to sample - Dark Chocolate with Chocolate Chips...
-
do you recommend it over the empire state?
YES!
*Although, if you've never done the Empire State Building...
If you have the time, I'd say do the Empire State during the day, and Top of the Rock at night. Top of the Rock you're basically on the roof - there are no barriers the way it's set up. Truly one of my favorite places in The City.
-
I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line....
I was thinking the same thing!
-
I was actually thinking of heading to Splash tonight, but decided tonight would be a good night to put my feet up for a while.
And one precludes the other? ;D
-
Ohh.. I took some pics today too... Hmm.. I'll post those tomorrow. Don't want to rain on DR Cason's parade. ;)
-
And whenever I would take the train up to Vassar (Poughkeepsie), I always smiled when I passed "Cold Spring Harbor". And I've also driven through Highland Falls, but in the spring not the summer. ;)
Boy, you know your Billy Joel!

I've done both but neither at night. Sam hasn't been to either

After the Enabler's first victory, we waddled over into Central Park and stopped by "Strawberry Fields"...

Here's my new office/edit room. This is in the "new" part of the house, built in the 40's. The rest of the house is 100 years old. This room is as small as it looks.
I had some roman shades made by a little upholstery lady but they won't go up until we get back, so the windows look rather bare, and the picture isn't hung yet, but at least it's now functional.
-
Nice picture Jason!
-
Then, we began our DearReaderLaura part of the trip - we found some fabulous foliage in the fountain by the lake.

The round thing on the desk is a brass calendar from the middle east, good until 2026 if you keep rotating the dial every month.

Nice Edi!

Sunday in the Park with George?
Nope - even better! Monday in Park with Jose!

Great picture of MissKaren and Cason!

Oh.. DR Miss Karen and I did come across this t-shirt while walking around. Alas, it was only available in "baby dolls", so.. But..

Thanks to DRS DAKOTA CELT and JANE for the votes.
Loving ALL the photos.....
And everyone reaching plateaus!!!

Looks like you two along with Jose had a splendid day!

3 of the 4 cats enjoying their new housewarming present that Greg bought them: a 3 story kitty condo.

love the wall color, edi - forgive the typing callie decided to sit on my lap for the first time in well over a year, so i only have one hand to type with
-
The water lillies and lotuses are gorgeous

Next, we wandered under the bridge and I felt kind of artsy, photography-wise. (Is that a MissKaren in the second photo?!)

What's the problem? You're all baby dolls! And one for Jason, too!

Edisaurus, yes I own the Z Channel documentary. Nudie Musical played on Z, and I watched the channel often, as they showed things you simply couldn't see anywhere else, like Sam Fuller's White Dog - I still have the Beta tape (and now DVD) from the Z Channel showing.

And one of my favorite things today - the angel on top of the fountain. As opposed to the little devil who was leading us around... ;)
