Well, you've read the notes, the notes were as arid and dry as a desert or dessert weed, and now it is time for you to post until the arid and dry cows come home. They're currently enjoying some dessert weed right now.

Priscilla will loan them to me. She said that 5 minutes before you did, great minds think alike!!! ;)

Ok, since the alarm is going to go off in 3 1/2 hours, I'm shutting down the laptop for the night. See many of you soon!

I don't have to watch the daily soaps...
I just watch NYMF!!!!
More than enough drama to go around! :P
-
I wonder if the Judy & Mickey version of "Last Starfighter" is available in OZ.
-
Good morning DR Michael. I hope each day brings you less discomfort.
Have a great Friday everyone.
-
I really wished I could have been in NYC today.
Damn Damn Damn!!!
-
Kerry, the fundraiser is November 5th - I'm VERY nervous about it, given the issues we're having getting the funding checks and because being here in NY for six weeks and not being able to deal with it, has put us in the horrible position of having to do everything in four weeks, and that includes selling 1000 tickets. If there were any way to push the show into January, I would do it, as difficult as it would be. Everything depends on the timeliness of the next funding payment which was, in fact, due on the 15th.
On top of that, the entertainment portion of the OTHER fundraiser for the LACC Foundation is completely falling apart and unfortunately it's all going to be on my shoulders to fix it. The conductor I got is now having "elbow" problems and may have surgery. I suspect that these problems would go away if he could only have as many musicians as he wants - eighty. Unfortunately, it's not possible because the most they can fit in the room is forty-five, and he's basically known this since July. They'll be playing a musical tribute to Jerry Goldsmith, but NOW we're finding out that the charts won't necessarily work for forty-five players, because they're designed for symphony orchestras. So, I'm not sure where this is leading, but since I arranged for all this, they're looking to me to fix it. And I don't know how to fix it and do the benefit we're doing in November and it's just driving me crazy, which is why I'm up three hours after having gone to bed.
-
Good morning all!
Well, IT'S FINALLY HERE !! ;D ;D
I can't believe it!!
Our first performance of Starfighter is tonight,
and we have our tech crew arriving at the theater at 8am to get started.
What an amazing ride it has been to get to this point!
-
BK - hope tech things go smoothly at today's BRAIN.
I'll be seeing it again on Sunday, and really looking forward to that.
Noel - best opening night wishes to you!
-
Opening night vibes to our other NYMF favorite, Such Good Friends of the Last Starfighter.
-
Good morning, all! I'm a bit down today: it's partially fatigue from the past three days of work, a bit of mourning for my dad, and a bit of early withdrawal from "The Brain," the closing of which will be very sad for me. On the plus side, I've got several NYMF shows yet to see, including the grand opening tonight of THE LAST STARFIGHTER and SUCH GOOD FRIENDS
I also learned that our Plaza Hotel rehearsal time on Sunday has once again moved and it's now on Sunday morning at 10 am. I'll be there.
I received an email from our DR MattH this morning; he's leaving the site for a while, but I hope it will not be permanent. As a person who's been through several rows with other DRs, including DR MattH, I know that this HHW nuclear family has its share of family feuds. That said, I hate it when someone feels no longer welcome, and I'm sorry to see him leave us. I still miss DRs Jay and Stuart a lot. Has anyone heard from DR Dan(the Man)?

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers.

Wishing broken legs to the casts and crews of Such Good Friends and The Last Starfighter.

At my desk I have The Rothschilds (OBC), Romance, Romance (OBC), Sugar (OBC) and it's a Howard Crabtree morning because I have Whoop-De-Doo! and When Pigs Fly.

I know it isn't Wednesday (Thank Goodness), but I do have a question for BK. Has this version of THE BRAIN been taped or filmed - for educational purposes only. This seemed like such a fine cast that it would be a shame not to save the memory. Unless, of course, there is a chance that the show will reopen soon??? ::)

We were so tired from getting up at 6 and only having 4 hours of sleep the night before, that we never went back out last night, which is uncharacterstic of us in NY and an indicator of how exhausted we were from moving and then getting ready for the cat sitter to stay there.
I also think the book should be written!
I dreamed about THE BRAIN last night. I was backstage talking to Barry Pearl, who had on pink and blue brain makeup but hadn't donned his brain head yet.
The house darkened and I jumped up and slid down a long ramp to the seats and grabbed the only empty one I could find, which happened to be in front of my father and step-mother. I was very surprised to see them there, especially as my father would never be able to negotiate a theatre seat like that (he's in a wheelchair) and was very happy to see him.
Then the show started, and there was a crucial set piece missing on stage and they had to start over.
Boy, our dinner conversation really made its way into my dreams!

Well, since they can't even get their sound system to work, and a crew would want to plug into the board...
I do happen to have a sound man right here in my hotel room taking a shower. Now all we need are 3 camera people. (Not for the taking of the shower...)

GOOD MORNING ALL!
CD Player at Work: The Last Starfighter
CD Player in the Car: Larry Moore's Kander and Ebb Album (with incidental vocals by Brent Barrett).
I must say, with all the recordings of "All That Jazz" out there, Larry's orchestration is stand-out brilliant!
Not to mention that "Wet" comes across as the sexiest song ever written (sung by the Sexiest Voice Alive--and Jane Krakowski ain't bad neither.)
BEST VIBES FOR STARFIGHTER, FRIENDS, AND BRAIN!!
I am all hyped to see Starfighter tomorrow.

I agree with you, DR elmore3003. I just can't see anything that was posted yesterday that should have caused him to feel that way. I hope that DR Matt H. returns soon.
Has anyone heard from DR Dan(the Man)?

Friday morning greetings! Information-waitressing all day for me today; it should be especially interesting, given the full moon and the fact that one of my coworkers was finally fired day before yesterday. No one's shedding any tears about that - I would have done it a long time ago.
This time tomorrow morning, DH Richard and I will be changing planes in Cincinnati. Hope our luggage does, too.

Well, DRs, you could PM him and let him know how much he'll be missed. I missed his thoughts on the the premiere of UGLY BETTY, which was quite moving, I thought, as well as outrageous as ever. I know his reasons for leaving but I won't post them. However, I'd guess his problem, and mine a lot of the times, is essentially ornithlogical. ;)

DR Edisaurus -
I'm trying to decide if I should try to come in tonight to have dinner with you [and whoever is around] between Brain and Starfighter. I know that there won't be much time, and it might be kind of crazed, so perhaps that's a bad idea. I believe DRs Cillaliz and Samantha are going to Starfighter tonight as well.

Indeed we are! We're in Milwaukee right now, having had a great breakfast. I'm sleepy, the wake up call came in at 3:45 AM even though I programed in 4:15 am. It turned out to be a very good thing as the lines in Omaha were a lot longer than I thought they would be

Toby and Dylan were actually characters in the show. The actor playing Dylan, however, got an out-of-town job doing Dreamgirls, so Dylan is no longer represented in the show. Ah, the pain of being the younger sibling.

DR CILLALIZ (i'm just catching up on yesterday's posts), I don't really know who i like yet on DWTS. I was sort of out of it watching this week. But i'm sure i'll have favorites by next week.

DR Jennifer....FEEL BETTER!!! I'm not sure who I like the best either. Sabrina surprised me the most

Okay, color me dense - can someone please PM me or e-mail me and tell me what the problem is with MattH. Please do so quickly.

Can't help BK, I don't know and wish he hadn't gone. Apparently Elmore knows

Gosh i must be so out of it that when i saw DR MattH write "I will refrain from posting" i thought he was talking about not posting re: tv shows.
I don't think anybody wrote any comments in a mean way. So i really don't see why anyone should feel hurt. But it's very difficult to know what another's tone is on this board.
So if i said anything to offend DR MattH i'm sorry. And i hope you'll come back.

Thank goodness the cool front has moved into NYC...
I'm pretty excited for today - definitely ready to do the "Brain" again, followed by taking in the opening night of my dear daddy's "The Last Starfighter." ;)
Tons and tons of vibes ('cause I know they'll need 'em) to both the "Starfighter" and "SGF" casts and crews for the all-day techs, plus their big NYMF opening nights!
Travel vibes to everyone who is coming into the City today (hello to Samantha - welcome to the craziness that is HHW; you'll get a crash course this weekend!)...can't wait to see all of you!

I'm also very sad to see MattH go...

Happy Friday, everyone!

Regarding MattH and his taking a break:
It's my understanding that he is, currently, overwhelmed with work -- the reviewing of DVDs that td mentioned in a previous post. He not only has two accounts -- Criterion and Disney -- but he also has become the reviewer of choice by his editor for the onslaught of titles other reviewers with larger accounts cannot get to. Add to this Matt's own DVD interests and he finds the days growing shorter and shorter and the viewing/reviewing demands a constant.
I hope, after he finds time to catch his breath, he will come back. A break can be a beneficial thing.
-
You said an ever-lovin' mouthful!

A break can be a beneficial thing.
Thanks for that perspective, DR Ron Pulliam.
It reminds me of a little story, not related. In college, I worked summers to earn spending money at a local Pepperidge Farm factory making croutons & stuffing [I kid you not!]. Many of the managers spoke in a broken English. Whenever it was time for a break, they'd say, "Go for break," and make a sign with their hands, suggestive of breaking a twig. I always found that amusing. What was NOT amusing was trying to get the black grease stains nightly out of my white uniform. And us summer temp folks were only issued one. :P
-
Hiya, gang!
First, best opening night vibes to Noel, Fred and Skip. I have seen productions of Brain and Starfighter - but Such Good Friends will have to wait until I can get there for the Broadway opening.

I know I'm gonna hate myself for asking this question, but why would "making croutons and stuffing" lead to "black grease stains" on your uniforms?
-
I hope someone is taping this final Brain... could be that all the many tech cues will be spot on... and with a full house, deep and full laughs for all the jokes... that would be nice to save for a final memory of this production.
-
Ron! Shipoopy and Doody??? They have herb teas for that...
-
I thoroughly enjoyed, this past weekend, my watching of the film "The Last Starfighter" in its recent HD-DVD incarnation. It's breathtaking for the first time on home video.
This morning, I learned from local news that tonight's San Francisco Opera performance of "Samson and Delilah" will be simulcast in HD-DVD at the downtown ballpark (AT&T Park) on is huge HD screen.
And that led me to wish that the NYMF productions would be simulcast in HD DVD...for pay-per-view customers.
I'd love to see all the shows, needless to say, but especially "The Brain from Planet X", "The Last Starfighter" and "Such Good Friends."
-
I know I'm gonna hate myself for asking this question, but why would "making croutons and stuffing" lead to "black grease stains" on your uniforms?
;D
Well, some people handle the food part, and some the machinery part. I'm not terribly mechanical, which made it all the more funny. On the days when I was on the food line, my job, for 8 hours a day, was to take slightly stale baked loaves of bread out of baskets and put them on a conveyer belt to go into the machine to be cubed. You try doing that for 8 hours a day in a noisy, hot factory - and this was before Walkmans! It was the best incentive I ever had to finish school.
And - to anticipate your next question: No. I never re-enacted the Lucille Ball scena. ;)
-
I hope someone is taping this final Brain...
Well, if not taping it, they'll certainly be tapping it.

OK, I must away to my first Jeanette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy rehearsal.
Eek.
-
Miss Penny: Only you can do this, I'm afraid.
You must ensure the photo you want to use is the proper size and saved on your computer in an easy-to-find location.
Then go into your "Edit Profile" mode and you browse for your new picture in the "Upload My Own Pic" field. (You removed the old one from "I Have My Own Pic" field, which is where the forum saves your avatar. You are adding something new, so you have to select from the other field).
Since you've eliminated one photo, you've done that much right.
You then go to the bottom and click on "Change Profile" to save your change.

FWIW, I thought the requests were quite reasonable, and not offensive in any way.

No, as TD mentioned, Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty are no relation.
The two of them starred in the very first Bollywood movie I ever watched, DHADKAN (along with Akshay Kumar who is seen with them on the far left of this photo).

I suspect my local mechanic is planning his Bermuda vacation.
Too our heap in to get it serviced for the trip to NYC.
Cooling sytem flushed, new thermostat.
Hydraulic system flushed, new filter.
Oil changed, new Filter.
Front brakes replaced
Rear brakes tightened
Tires rotated
I'm told to expect no change from $1000.
der Brucer
Truth be told, all that work was needed - I've done nothing save change oil for the past three years and the car just rolled over 120,000 miles and is entering it's 11th year.

LOL, DR der Brucer!
In 2003, our family sent a local oral surgeon to Europe, I think. My mother, my mother-in-law, our son, and I all had major procedures performed by him within just a few months.
See you and DR SWW soon!

Angela Stevens is lovely. What did she have to say.....without revealing too much.....

Here is something for DR SINGALONG to ponder:
THE ATLANTIC (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/09/the-experience-.html)
I'm writing because I find it fascinating to read non-musicians writing about music. While I can tentatively agree on some of the things he says (well, despite being a church musician amongst other things myself, I don't buy the notion of composers as taking dictation from above), one of the things he totally misses is that, at least for people who make music, music at least in part represents the actions taken to make music!
When I hear a great voice singing, I thrill at the thought of what it must feel like to open one's mouth and make a sound like that, knowing what it feels like to sing. And it's not hard to extend the ideas to various sorts of instrumental playing. A big shift has occurred over the past 100 or so years with the advent of electronic distribution and reproduction of music in that most listeners now are physically divorced from the making of music, and in fact have never taken any serious efforts in making music themselves. This leads to the sense of separation of music from the physical world that Sacks is talking about. I'm not judging whether or not this is a good thing, but it certainly represents a marked change in the experience of music since the 19th century.

I made my rounds....not many "Heys!" to dispense. Lots of folks "out" today....days off, seminars, vacation...it seems like "Saturday".

See you and DR SWW soon!
Yup - but we've really not yet made any plans. We have tickets for SGF at 4:30 and The Brain From Planet X (perhaps the mime version) at 8:00. The thrifty soul (read Germanic tightwad) in me wants to park in Jersey City and use Public Transit from there - the "time is precious, use it wisely" part of me wants to take the Lincoln Tunnel in and Park in the first available garage. I hope to have us in Midtown by noon. (I am assuming Sunday morning traffic on the Jersey Turnpike will be light.)

Hello, HHW!
I slept late, rare for me, but I had only an hour's sleep the night before my trip, plus a very long, though wonderful, day on Wednesday. So you could say that I'm taking today to collapse.
Now, to attempt to catch up on two days of posts.
-
Unless someone sneaks in with a camera I doubt there will be any legal taping of Brain. There are union rules, donchaknow
-
DR Ben - which performance of Such Good Friends are you seeing Wednesday? Richard and I will be there at 4:30 (then The Last Starfighter at 9).
-
Sorry to hear about DR MattH's absence from this here site. What I was surprised about was that DR MattH had a job reviewing the DVD'S he spent his days wacthing and sharing with us. I always thought he was retired and spend his days watching great movies and TV and how lucky we were to reap the benefits of his findings. I hope he returns soon, he is quite an asset around these parts.
-
And those grass stains were a bitch!
:o
;D
-
Okay, so I've been trying to change
You just have to really WANT to...
;)
-
DR der B - Ouch! about the car bill. It is wonderful and amazing to me what DRs are doing, in their own and various ways, to support the shows in NYMF.
And...
Thanks for the quote. Very very interesting. I will want to look more at that blog.

Most misunderstandings are not the result of what is said, but rather what is heard.
Quite right. Perception is "personal" and accumulative, too.
There are very wise souls on this here board.

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
-
What I want to know is whether slipshod is going to be Nelson...or Jeannette.
It depends. If they force me to wear the floral print instead of the pastel I have my eyes on, I may just pull a prima donna hissy fit... ;)
Or maybe both? "This is My Moment!"
Wow...this is a wonderful idea for a cabaret act! :)
When I'm calling you----ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo oooh!
This is one of the songs we're doing! :) It's a four song medley. I was very apprehensive about it, but now that I've met the gal and we've run through it, I think it's going to be great fun.
-
I can't say that I've loved this day so far, but maybe it will pick up when I get to the theater for this afternoon's performance. There are times, oh, yes, there are times when one just wants to open the window and go flying. One doesn't of course, but one sometimes wants to.

BREAKING NEWS
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298503,00.html)
Student Gunman Holding Up to 10 Hostages in California High School
Police are negotiating with a student gunman who fired shots inside a northern California high school.
Up to 10 students are being held in the bandroom at Las Plumas High School in Oroville, Calif. by a student with a gun, according to preliminary and unconfirmed reports from the police scanner. No injuries have been reported.
A dispatcher at the Butte County Sheriff's Department says a 911 call came into authorities just after 9 a.m.
He said deputies are talking to the student and trying to negotiate with him to put down the gun.
Sounds like somebody did not get to play his instrument of choice.

Who knows when I'll have time to catch up on the rest of the programs that are currently saved on the DVR? :-\
Exactly the problem I'm trying to avoid. I've managed, until last night, to keep my recorded programs to under 20% of the available space. And that's quite a bunch of movies off TCM.
But those HD broadcasts eat up space...and I recorded four of those shows last night. Will watch them tonight and delete, of course.
The problem with the movies is that I find myself less interested in some of them than I was when I scheduled them. I'd hate to delete anything without first watching it, though.
Sigh.

I watched an interesting movie last night, though...."Detective Code 62"...a 1933 Warner Brothers "Vitaphone" programmer starring William Powell.
Very unusual 1-hour 17-minute film with Powell being ousted from Paris (and France) where he was working as a detective and where he had been caught with sensitive documents. Just as he's arriving at NYC port, the captain of the French vessel receives a wire telling him to return with Powell who will be further scrutinized. Powell escapes, jumps ship and swims to shore. He talks his way into a job with a flea-bag detective agency. Soon, the agency is thriving. But Powell's partner yields to too much temptation. Powell is assigned to "get something good" on a society dame who has been winning big at a local gambling joint. Powell's partner is a "secret partner" of the owner of the gambling joint. Powell shows up at the casino, dressed to the nines, and falls in love with this woman. At any rate, he learns about what's going on after a phony murder set-up, a real murder, a setup to murder him, etc. It's fast, it's tongue-in-cheek, and it was the perfect vehicle for Powell to "test" for the role of Nick Charles. Powell was one of those rare movie stars...one who instinctively knew how to "act" when the cameras rolled. I was glad I saw it, and I was glad to delete it, too.

By the way, TD, have I mentioned that I am very happy that someone else on this hear board seems to enjoy a regular diet of Bollywood movies!
I think I have BLACKMAIL somewhere in my stack of DVDs...I had forgotten that Sunil Shetty was in it.
You must rent 36 CHINA TOWN, by the way...it was such a fun movie (not the least because of the very long shirtless scene at the beginning with Upen Patel).
I ADORED 36 CHINA TOWN! When I was watching CHUP CHUP KE the other night, I knew that I had seen Shahid Kapoor in something that I really liked him in - - and that would have been 36 CHINA TOWN.
And, DR MBarnum, if it weren't for BRIDE & PREJUDICE and YOU, well, my appetite for Bollywood might have gone unsated, not to mention, lain dormant for gawd knows how long. . .
-
...watch out for that Sam Katzman...his hands are faster then DR Jose's!

I don't think there's anything about you that's dormant, DR td! :)

Other than the humidity, the NYC adventure has been delightful. The two Brainiacs are taking a power nap before call, so I'm trying to catch up. We already miss DR Jeanne (the slumber party ain't the same without you) -- thanks for the chocolates!! All of our goodies -- save a small portion of Monkey Cake -- from the Temptress are long gone -- thanks DR Enabler!! ALL of the HHWers we've met have been charming. DR Edi and her loving DH are witty and fun (great with the puns and word play) -- and (Sound of Music song cue insert for How DO You Solve A Problem Like Maria spoof), how do you describe some guys with names like Jason, Jose, SlingingHash, FJL, MusicGuy, bk, Cason and BJ? Like being thrown in a barrel of monkies -- and way more fun! Dinner at the diner was wacky and festive (and full moon crazy) -- Thank you MusicGuy!! When I get caught up, I'll try to post reviews and reports. Wish you all were here, as they always write in the small town papers a good time is being had by all.

Of course, we don't know if DR Ben was referring to the figure in the photo on the left or on the right...

Good fundraiser vibes. Keep me posted.
Be good today!
-

Ahh...well, fortunately, I work at the adminstrative headquarters, so we're not a public branch, so the homeless bottom feeders are kept to a minimum. ;) We do have a Halloween pot-luck next month, though. Who knows what will come out of the woodwork, then. But the few people that I've shown the pictures to have said what a wonderful thing the ring is.

I took today off to recover, a bit of post-whirlwind R&R. I spent most of the afternoon catching up on posts--and am still not completely caught up!
-
Unfortunately, I missed Jose's movements on NYC streets. Singdaw and I were engrossed in a fascinating discussion. I was going on about how what I learned in my figure drawing days has helped me in other aspects of life. So engrossed were Sing and I that BK, acting as border collie, tried to hurry us along, reminding us that this is NYC and to TRY to stay out of the way of oncoming vehicles. I admit I was completely oblivious to said vehicles. I was talking, damn it!
thus I missed Jose.

Busy weekend here in Melbourne. One of the two biggest sporting days of the year. Football final!
Where is Rodzinski?
-
Well, if not taping it, they'll certainly be tapping it.
I can't believe you posted that! We have a no-groan zone here, but you are pushing it!
-
Gosh i must be so out of it that when i saw DR MattH write "I will refrain from posting" i thought he was talking about not posting re: tv shows.
I thought the same thing & commented with that in mind. I sent Matt an email shortly after reading elmore's post.

Okay...click on "Edit Profile" at the top of any page and in the big list of avatars next to the "Personalized Picture" option, there is now one named "Kerry-avatar." Just select that, uncheck the boxes under that list (if any are checked), scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter your password. That should be it!
Uncheck the boxes? Not check them?
-
Okay, here it is -- but i don't know what i did to make it come up...
I think things are in a sorry state when not a single (or married) HHWer pounces on this comment!
-
This reminds me of a "Twilight Zone" episode in which a little girl slips into another dimension that is accessible only through the wall at the head of her bed.
One of my favorite episodes.
Thank you for enlightening us regarding Matt H. I didn't realize how hard he works.
-
Uncheck the boxes? Not check them?
Correct...if either of the boxes are checked, uncheck them. If neither of the boxes are checked, don't check either of them. Both should be unchecked.
-
That picture of Kerry would make someone a good avatar.
YES! :D
-
Dakota, George, & ArnoldMBrockman thanks for the birthday wishes.
Dakota, good computer vibes
Samantha, it is nice to see your pretty face.

Kerry, I know you can do it!! :D

And since we're so close...

PAGE 11 DANCE!!
-
Yup - but we've really not yet made any plans. (I am assuming Sunday morning traffic on the Jersey Turnpike will be light.)
der Brucer
Is that parking garage gone that used to be on W. 42nd between about 9th and 10th? It was always one of the least expensive places to park (safely) in Midtown.

I finally got to watch HEROES.
SPOILERS.
*
*
*
I agree with DR RonP. I did not care for the brother and sister.
To me a premiere should at least try to be interesting. Especially in the first few scenes.
I found the opening stuff with mohinder and then the brother/sister extremely boring.
The stuff with hiro was okay. But mostly because i love him.
The stuff with matt was also okay.
I wanted more peter though. Peter is the core of the show. And it seemed like he was needed.
I have no idea what happened to nathan. That is a totally disaster.
One of the only things i liked was everything to do with claire. Loved every scene she was in.
Btw, can someone remind me why everyone thinks peter is dead? I wish the previews at the beginning had really laid out exactly what had happened. Do they not realize that for most people it has been 4 months since they saw the ending.
-
Well, I must be off. I'm leaving NOW to go see The Manhattan Transfer in Seattle at Jazz Alley (http://www.jazzalley.com/artist.asp?artistid=486)!! Have a good evening, all!! And:

Ron, we watched LIFE last night, the entire episode. We will be watching again next week.
We are way behind on our TV watching. We are trying to watch one new show a night.
Last night we watched SWEET LAND, a gem of a movie from 2005.
-
That opens the door to any number of "lawyer" jokes, but as we have several DRs that are admitted to the bar, I will be kind. :P :)
And thrown out of a few, as well.

TOD
Not really doing anything, CD or DVD-wise.
READING:
Alice Waters' The Chez Panisse Menu Cookbook. She's a bit precious.
And I've started Mimi Sheraton's The Bialy Eaters, which looks like it will be very interesting. And a bialy to snack on while in NYC would make the book even more interesting.

TOD: CD player in the car: Babes in Arms.
TV, DVD, and VHS: nothing.

You're supposed to have either watched the re-runs, or bought the DVDs.
Peter and Nathan had a big blow-up at the end of the first season.

I should get dinner started for der Brucer and myself.
A nice ham steak, to be accompanied by cheesy grits and brussels sprouts (or would that be der Brucer's sprouts?).
And Doctor Who is on tonight!

Hi TCB, I stepped away for a few minutes. Any good news on the shoulder?
Nope. I am going to go back to my primary doctor next week and see if I can get a third opinion.

Soon I will have to drive Dear Mother's van to pick her up from her reunion dinner. I dropped her and her Jazzi off at 5:30, by this time, the dining should be done (Chicken Cordon Bleu or Beef Wellington) following hors oeuvres, speeches and music (by my cousin-in-law cop who moonlights as a deejay).

Sunday evening, we're having a good old-fashioned low German dinner: Soured Meat and Glace. Hearty and recommended.

They agreed after the 55th, that since they're not getting any younger, to do one at two and three year intervals, hence the next one will be the 60th in 2010. . . .

Hopefully all of the shows went/are going well ... and we will get lots of photos and information about them shortly.
I am watching THE SUN ALSO RISES.....lovely film....not Hemingway to be sure....but very nice to watch.

I ordered the Don't Knock the Rock/Twist-Twist/Rock Around the Clock DVD's today.

You take a nice eye of round. Roast it until tender. Let cool. Cube cooled meat or pull apart into nice sized chunks.
To the pan drippings add cider vinegar and pickling spices. Fold in corn starch or flour dissolved in water until thickened as gravy. Add meat.
Let sit overnight in fridge. Serve over glace* the next day.
*Glace are a kind of heavy, boiled potato dumpling, filled with buttered toast squares.

After the last reunion our class has decided not to wait another 10 years, likely we will have another one in five.

Hey, don't knock Hamburger Helper. Tonight, I am having a can of Beef Stroganoff!
I stopped on my way home from dropping DM, to pick up a pint of wonton soup and an order of steamed dumplings. (It's soooo nice to have a take-out Chinese restaurant within walking distance now).

Take one piece of bread, put a piece of bologna on top, spread a layer of Hellman's on that, put another piece of bread on top of that.
If it is for you, eat as is....if company is coming, cut corner to corner to make a triangle.
Serve. ;D

ROTFLOL-I had no idea it came in a can. Is it good or just easy to make?
Actually I had never had it before now. It is the latest in the line of Campbell's Chunky Soups. This is from their latest line, Chunky Fully Loaded.
And to be fair, the can says that is Stroganoff Style Beef Soup.
It isn't real Stroganoff, but it isn't bad for a can.
-
When I am on Vicodin, you really don't want me using knives or ovens.

I'm kinda partial now to Campbell's Chunky Chili. . .

Thank you for reminding me, TCB. I checked the NYTimes a couple days ago, looking for their review, and completely forgot that they had a rating system. It is done now--a big 5 stars, natch!
-
Congrats to MISS KAREN on her posting milestone. My, can that gal talk!!

Fantastic! The first two people who rated it, both gave it one star each. So, it has taken a while to climb out of that cellar.
-
Thank you all for your kind remarks about my prom pics. I was never a shutterbug and don't really have a lot of pics. The only pics I have of BK are the few from the prom and then a couple he sent me in his STOP THE WORLD costume. I brought three of the prom pics on the trip. There really isn't much else. Sorry, Mike.

I am remembering to eat AND to drink lots of water. Actually these anti-inflammatory pills are worse on the stomach than the Vicodin.

Coming home on Amtrak yesterday I met an older man who, when he learned that I was a contributing author of a medical textbook, asked my advice for a number of ailments he's had. He's been to a number of doctors to no avail. I recommended a couple of books, as well as an alternative practitioner. He's a nice ole guy, a judge, among other things. I hope he finds some relief.

Any particular books I might know of?
I'll have to read your response tomorrow as I'm very tired.

'bout as ready as I can be until tomorrow morning. Considering my alarm will go off about 4am, I should be sleeping right now.
But I'm kind of waiting up for the show reports from NYC.

You watch your phraseology....no one touches my feet! ;D

OK, I will tell you what I know, which isn't much:
-
Spider Baby is on TCM tonight.
-
I got to the Acorn in time to see people departing through the lobby. Everyone I saw was smiling and seemed to have had a really good time. I will leave it for bk to reveal who was Brain Tapped. Elmore3003 said it was the best show so far, so apparently the show disc loaded into the sound board properly.
bk departed almost immediately for dinner/errands/Such Good Friends, I believe.
I met DR Edisaurus and DH Greg for the first time. They are the most warm, sincere folk you could ever hope to meet. Loved them immediately! :) I did NOT see DR Miss Karen, however. Was she there? Did she flee through the stage door?
-

As he has pain problems I recommended Sherry Rogers' PAIN-FREE IN 6 WEEKS. Dr Rogers mentions all sorts of approaches to pain. She is an MD who herself had medical problems that neither her own training as a physician nor other conventional physicians could help. She was forced to rethink her training in order to heal herself. I have tried many of the approaches in the book. Some have helped more than others, but using a variety of approaches I am now able to keep what was severe, debilitating pain either gone or at least manageable.
Because he is having skin problems and none of the dermatologists have helped, I recommended seeing a homeopath, Lia Bello, who helped a friend's son enormously. Skin conditions are very important to homeopaths. Because homeopathy is quite different from the Western approach, I thought he should read a book on homeopathy. IMPOSSIBLE CURE by Amy Lansky is, I think, a good introduction. It is about her quest to find help for her son's autism. Homeopathy made a huge difference--so much so that Ms Lansky changed career fields (PhD in computer science from Stanford) and is now a practicing homeopath. Very readable.
-
DRs elmore3003, Edisaurus, DH Greg, cast member BJ, and I headed out to a lovely pizza dinner. Shortly thereafter we were joined by DRs JoseSPiano, Cillaliz, and Samantha, fresh from their own unhurried dinner elsewhere.
DR Samantha is quite lovely. It did my jaded old soul good to see her, flush with the excitement of being in NYC for the first time in her life. Laughter abounded througout dinner. Were any of your ears ringing, DRs? :)
It was a short walk from there to St. Clements, where Starfigher was about to mark its premiere at NYMF!
And right there, on the steps of the church, I wished DR FJL break-a-leg vibes. He was very calm and collected. AND I got two, count 'em, two hugs from DO RE MILLA! :)
-
Leaving most of the DRs at the performance [my ticket is for next weekend], DR JoseSPiano proceeded around the corner to Amy's Breads, where The Enabler forced me AT GUNPOINT to buy Monkey Cake, cookies of various kinds, and some almond something-or-other. Thus laden down, we proceeded to Virgin Times Square Megastore for much browsing and giggling. The Enabler stuck a knife in my side and FORCED me to buy books, DVDs, and CDs.
And the whole while I had my camera, fully loaded and battery fully charged, and forgot/neglected to take one darn picture.
Me very sorry... :(
-
Yes, I daresay DR Jeanne and I were a bit oblivious the other night.
"Oblivious" and "walking in NYC" are not a good combination...
:)

Which books, DVDs, and CDs were you forced to buy, sing?

Did we have reporters at both SUCH GOOD FRIENDS and THE LAST STARFIGHTER this evening?

Speaking of Central Park....
And I know nobody was....
I was there many years ago, and there's a statue of a witch there. If I remember correctly, she's wearing glasses and is on a broomstick, and is an elderly witch, not a young one. (Iv've got a photo of it, but don't know where it is.)
Does this ring a bell with anyone?

'Hello, Jerry' at the Prince Edward
Tuesday, September 25, 2007; Posted: 12:12 AM - by Robert Gould
The Prince Edward theatre, currently the home of Mary Poppins, witnessed another piece of magic on Sunday 23 September, when it became the venue for a star-studded gala tribute to legendary Broadway lyricist/tunesmith, Jerry Herman - a show scheduled to be aired on BBC Radio 2's "Friday Night Is Music Night" just before Christmas. From the moment the BBC concert orchestra conducted by Larry Blank and the highly accomplished chorus of Capital Voices launched into Herman's blockbuster, "Tap Your Troubles Away" (from Mack and Mabel) the audience knew they were in for a rare treat of musical theatre showstoppers. And for the next 2 hours the cast of John Barrowman, Maria Friedman, Debbie Gravitte and Clarke Peters never failed to deliver.
Peters (Chicago, The Witches of Eastwick, Porgy and Bess) provided his smoky voice of elegance and "cool" to songs such as "Song Of the Sand" and "Look Over There" (both from La Cage Aux Folles). Gravitte (Tony Award winning star of Jerome Robbins' Broadway) belted her way admirably through "It's Today" and wowed the audience with the torch song from Mame, "If He Walked Into My Life". Maria Friedman's programme included a rousing "Hello Dolly!", a beautifully poised "Before The Parade Passes By" that built to a great climax, and a haunting delivery of Herman's standard, "Time Heals Everything".
The show was hosted with his accustomed charm and panache by John Barrowman, who is now so well known for his television role in hit Dr. Who spin-off "Torchwood" and as "Maria" and "Joseph" judge that people often forget his astonishing track record in musical theatre. If there was any doubt as to whether Barrowman's talents belong more on the musical theatre stage or on the small screen, those doubts were wiped away during the evening at the Prince Edward. His first solo was a beautiful rendition of "It Only Takes A Moment", followed later by a close to perfect interpretation of Herman's own favourite song, "I Won't Send Roses". Towards the end of the evening he returned to the stage, a genuine diva complete with his pink boa, and sang the hell out of "I Am What I Am" (from La Cage Aux Folles) - a performance that rightly earned him one of the longest standing ovations I have ever witnessed in a West End theatre.
To add to the occasion, many of the musical numbers were conducted by Broadway veteran and life-long friend of Jerry Herman, Don Pippin - and Jerry himself (sadly unable for health reasons to make the flight across the pond for the occasion) became part of the proceedings when he spoke via a satellite radio link, adding his personal ovation to the quality of the evening's performances. Yet another standing ovation was prompted by the show's finale - "The Best of Times", which was followed by an "encore" number geared to the show's festive season airing - "We Need A Little Christmas". This seemed a fitting conclusion as Herman's music never fails to lift the spirits into a joyous holiday mood.
-
Elmore - i never got a chance to offer my deepest condolences for your loss... sweetie, I'm wit' you.

When does Noel's play open????
At Noël! ;)

Hahahahahahahaaa!!

Looks like I'm heading to Miami third week of October to hawk the play to the theaters that cater to old Jews, for next season...

Got the invite two days ago - found out about it yesterday, while recuperating from the grueling drive south.

Still waiting up to hear how Brain went this afternoon, and how the opening of Friends went - what time did that curtain go up???

Hiya, td!!!

Dance with me?

Good evening, all! I'm so tired that while the others all went to the Brooklyn Diner to meet up with BK, I came home to crash. It's been a very long but wonderful day: I'm beginning withdrawal on "The Brain," and next week I will miss it and its mighty cast terribly. My friends Bruce Pomahac, director of music for Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Charlie Harmon, former assistant to Leonard Bernstein, came to the afternoon performance and loved the show, Bruce's direction, Adam's choreography, and everything else. When I got home tonight there was a long message from Bruce again telling me how he found the show absolutely marvelous with lots of heart and what a fan of BK's wor he was.
Then, meeting up with DRs singdaw, edisaurus, Miss Karen, Greg, BJ, Cason and heading over to St Clements. THE LAST STARFIGHTER is an absolute delight and the audience appeared to have a wonderful time. The cast is quite wonderful and the production clever, smoothly flowing from scene to scene accompanied by some wonderful music and a song for the ladies, "Love Is Like Water," that has a delicacy and truth etched in elegant and poignant phrases that break the heart. It also has an alien assassination sung by a young boy as a vaudeville turn that has to be seen to be believed! Absolutely wonderful.
-
Yer ON!!! Ten whole cents!?!? Such a deal!
-
Not to mention the glow of the digital camera's flash. . . ;D
Gee! You blow the romancism of the whole situation! :P
-
Dearest PennyO, you were beautiful in black and white but you're a knockout in glorious technicolor.
-
Love Is Like Water is such a beautiful song!!! I was quite taken with it when I heard it last year. The song of the show!
-
Oh, Elmo, how you talk! Thank you my dearest dear.

Hey, Saif Ali Khan should be pleasing to the ladies here. . .as well as to some gentlemen. ;)

Remind me to tell you all about SONGS IN THE DARK, the cabaret I did at the Gemini which focused on Al Jolson and the Dawn of Sound films. . .
-
Jeez, it's only 9 pm here, and I'm struggling to stay awake, in spite of the scintillating company.
-
So, TD, tell me about Songs in the Dark, will ya?
-
I might just get showered and dressed for...
Obviously, Saif Ali Khan is showered but not dressed! ;)

How big a house is the Gemini?

Sweet dreams. DR td.

Hey! I sang that song (the one by John Bucchino) at. . . .you guessed it, THE GEMINI!

Well, off i go to dreamland. Good night, DR's. I'll check back on these here notes tomorrow morning to see what I've missed.
-
Saif Ali Khan...sigh!!!!
And speaking of Mr. Khan, I just got his film BEING CYRUS in the mail the other day...I should have watched it tonight, but forgot all about it until TD posted that loverly photo of him.
Instead, my Bollywood movie tonight is another Tamil flick titled DHOOL, starring the Southern Indian heart throb (he certainly makes me throb!!) Vikram. There are some other people in it as well, but who cares.

And here you can see one of the many colorful and well choreographed music and dance numbers from DHOOL....lots of fun! Besides being very sexy, Vikram is one heck of a dancer.

Is this movie produced in the same country where they are giving that actress all kinds of grief because Richard Gere dared to kiss her?
Considering what's on display here - yes, fun, and mild - I wouldn't have thought they'd have a problwm with a simple kiss.
-
So, Noel...how did opening day go?

I believe it is considered rude to kiss in public in India, or at least parts of India, but the firestorm over Shilpa and Richard is more hype/publicity then anything else. Oh, there may have been a few conservatives who got huffy about it, and Shilpa's publicity gurus were all over it...but, I would guess that 99.9 percent of the population couldn't care less about it.
-
And yes, the movie musical clip is from an Indian film.
-
I spy a DR Noel. How did opening night go, Noel?

Vibes to SUCH GOOD FRIENDS and LAST STARFIGHTER!
-
Computer is in a coma.. DBF's freind si going to try to override the bad program without completely reformatting. If that fails, I will have to reformat. Hopefully i can borrow and external harddrive from a freind to move some of my files.
-
I am visiting my parents. My dad is cracking jokes about having to be "tapped" to remove fluid...
His comment: "Who ever klnew a person could be a keg"
That is his quote.. In a way sick but oddly a funny way to look at it. He is still cracking some slightly cracked to sick jokes.
-
I hope you can get your computer to work again, DR DakotaCelt. I am glad I have my DS around to fix things for me.
-
Fundraiser vibes to bk!

I hope so too!!
I miss coming here after a rough night at work. It never fails to make me smile with the lovely amusing individuals here

India has very strict rules about kissing in public and Gere committed an big error in judgement.

Tell him to hop a plane to Fargo...

I have one drive that did not have the program loadeed and it is the harddrive from my old computer. Is it possible to bring that up and then go into my c drive and delete the offending program?

Count down to Spider Baby....

Working Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday is Pagan Pride Day - but my sister is working at the Festival....whew....
-
He said he'd need to see the computer.
-
I shall read the results in the morning.
-
Will your computer boot up?
-
I have a custom built with XP Pro.
It boots and gets to the screen where I click on my account name and then it starts to losd. I can see the wallpaper and then I get a window taht says cannot find computer registry.... 0x0000 with several other numbers and ending in 8. Then logs off.
I can bring it up in safe mode but I do not know the commands to pull of the documents I want. The dos commands I recall are too old.
-
When I got this computer, I got to keep the old harddrive. That is my back up. Heck, even if i could move some of the files I want from c drive to my e drive I would appreciate that. I dont feel competent enough to completely reformat the c drive.
-
i will let you guess who is in the picture in my wallpaper....
-
He said you shouldn't need commands in safe mode. He says, "Windows is hosed."
-
I have Win98SE on the second harddrive but I have only used that for storage.
Laura, if he has instructions. I will PM you my email addy...
-
Donny Osmond?

hosed?

Back from a very difficult early part of the day, a wonderful performance of The Brain, about which more later, and seeing Noel's show, which I enjoyed, and whose cast is first-rate all the way. We then met up at the Brooklyn Diner - I hadn't eaten all day, so I had a salad and a bacon cheeseburger and fries, although Miss Karen stole most of them. The Diner was the scene of incredibly ribald and raucous behavior, and I must say that the 5'10" beautiful Samantha, not only held her own but was frequently leading the pack. Most amusing bit - when the entire table sang Iowa Stubborn and then went into Ya Got Trouble. Many photographs were taken so I'm sure they'll be posted.
Also, FJL will post the link the the nytheater.com review - it's pretty terrific - not without some criticisms, but clearly they really liked the show and LOVED the cast. And he'll also post the link to the NY Times reviewlet - not very long, and not without criticism, but essentially positive, and how many just out of college young men get their names in a NY Times review?
-
Matt Ashford! DBF! and Missy Reeves!
-
He said: If you can boot into windows 98, then go ahead. It shouldn't be hard to find the files you want.

Lovely quotes for BRAIN in that Times review. So BRAIN's now got nice quotes from both the L.A. Times and NY Times.

It is a fun and entertaining show... Great music, catchy tunes...
-
I will now take heed of someone overly eager in recommending a program...
-
Don't do it!
-
Miss Patti! Are you in New York or LA?
In LA :) Home Sweet Home. Someone has to be here working on the November benefit ;)
-
Wow...we're back from a wonderful day of fun in NY!
This morning, I did a little early holiday shopping at several museum stores while DH shopped at Gotham Audio and another sound place a few blocks from The Acorn. The place was unbelievably smokey and stuffy...I immediately felt my head imploding!
Greg bought a very fancy boom pole and he is now testing it out, listening to me as I read him some of Friday's notes.
Then we rushed to the Acorn and settled in for the 4:30 BRAIN.
I'm so glad we both decided to take in an extra showing. It was throughly enjoyable, and so nice to hear all the vocal harmonies that were missing in the LA production. (Apparently some of the ensemble could handle singing harmony.) The new musical sections that Larry added...more Brain tap, etc. were great, and Cason really got to put his tap shoes to good use!
"All About Men" and "Earthman" were two big highlights in the show. As far as I could tell, things were technically fine. The ensemble really worked well together and there were lots of laughs, throughout. The crowd was a good size, especially considering it was still during work hours. I think the house was at least 3/4's full.
Afterwards, we were delighted to see dear Singdaw in the lobby. It was so wonderufl to meet him, he really is one of the sweetest people ever. He had PennyO's book with him and said it was hilarious, so it's on my "must buy" list.
Larry, Sing, BJ, Greg and I went around the corner to grab a slice of pizza before Starfighter. It was surprisingly tasty for a quick slice. Jose, Cillaliz and Sam met us there when we were finishing up. Then Sing accompanied us to the Starfighter theatre, which was in an old church (maybe its still used as a church, too?) and we got to meet DR Julie before the show. We also saw FJL, who seemed calm. He hasn't posted much about his NYMF experience, so I didn't know what to expect, but I imagined that we had all sorts of technical problems awaiting us.
Not so! As far as I could tell, the show was near perfect, and it had a lot of technical elements to it and a very nice set with lotos of set chanes. The set design was very clever and worked well for the show.
The approach of adapting the film to a musical worked great. I don't want to say too much about it since I know others plan on coming to see it bur I admired how skillfully Fred & Skip tred the line with not being overly reverent to the film and not mocking it' either. The tone was perfect. And the music was so beautiful and the songs were so catchy, with such funny lyrics. These are songs you can sing coming out of the theatre, and some of us were.
The crowd loved the show and it was almost a full house. I liked everyone in the cast very much and they seemed to be having a great time in the show. Skip and Fred should be very proud of their achievement!

Good Evening! Good Morning!
Well... I have some pics to post from tonight's frolic. -And, boy, did we frolic. However, I still have to catch up on today's posts - WOW! 19 Pages! So, I'll probably end up posting them "tomorrow", or as soon as I'm done catching up on today's posts - whichever comes first. Or last. ???
-
I am glad to hear the good reports on "Brain...X" and "Last Starfighter."
-
Hmm.. Well, I'm done catching up on today's posts... Is bk still composing the new notes? Or it is that this topic is not locked yet? Hmm....
-
Well, as promised... Here are some pics from tonight's "frolic"...
To start off, here's a pic of I took of DR singdaw at the Virgin Megastore. I believe he was "inspired" by DR Jason's continuing (I hope) "hat series".

And, yes, The Enabler/Temptress was very much in action tonight. ;)

Here is a pic of DR Cason checking out the menu at the Brooklyn Diner. However, I believe Juliana happens to be checking out something else. ;)

So... My Mary Poppins rehearsal today went well. Now if I could just play while the conductor conducts, I'd be so much happier with myself. It really was strange. There were a few sections when Brad had to leave the theatre to attend to some other business, and then he would come back in the middle of the scene and listen and watch. And those sections went great - including the sort of tricky "Temper, Temper" number. However, as soon as he stepped in front of me to conduct... Oy and Vey! I guess I have so much muscle-memory from the rehearsals with the resident director, that it's just taking me longer to be comfortable enough to be flexible when needed, when conducted. In any case, it was a good day, and we accomplished everything that was on the docket for today's rehearsal - plus a few things leftover from yesterday's rehearsal. -And we finished 20 minutes early too! :)
-
After rehearsal, I met DRs Cillaliz and Samantha at the stage door, and went ahead and gave them a brief tour of the New Amsterdam theatre and backstage area. -Alas, the night doorman had come on duty, and since he didn't recognize me, it was a little weird heading back into the theatre just ten minutes after I had left it. But I was able to take them out into the house, and into the wings for a few minutes. -It really is an amazing space.
-
Then came the very quick tour of Times Square as we headed up to the Palace to pick up the tickets for Legally Blonde. Then it was over to St. Clements to pick up the tickets for The Last Starfighter. And then up to Eatery for dinner.
It was great getting to catch up with DR Cillaliz, and to meet DR Samantha for the first time. And dinner was good too.
And then it was off to the pizza place to meet up with DRs Amy, her ever-lovin' Greg, DR Singdaw, elmore and BJ.
Yadda-yadda-yadda....
-
Wow 3:00am EST and no new notes. The action must be exciting in NYC. The west coast in the South Bay of the greater bay area is falling asleep!
-
I passed on seeing a show tonight since I just did not feel like sitting in a theatre for a few more hours today. I spent almost all day yesterday in the New Amsterdam, and another five today, so... It felt great just to walk around Times Square for a bit. -And to take DR singdaw to Amy's Bread and the Virgin Megastore. -Yes, The Enabler in action! <insert, giggly, evil laugh here>.
-
Hmm.. I wonder if bk is planning on posting the new Notes on L.A. time?
-I at least hope everything is all right.
