Title: THE LITTLE OLD WINEMAKER, ME

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were piquant with a rosy bouquet, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're having a bottle of chablis right now.

Well...  In case you missed it, I did post some pics from last night's festivities, so, just check out the last page of yesterday's posts if you haven't already.

And since it is very late here on the East Coast, and since I have rehearsal in 10 hours and 45 minutes...

Goodnight.

Let me see if I can remember things from my "catching up":

DR Jane:

FINALLY, a show I loved that you and Keith could sit through.  I hope for all our sakes that the writers can make it as interesting, if not more, as that debut episode.

DR TCB:   I'm sorry vicodin renders you dangerous in the kitchen.

The time I was on vicodin (a few summers ago after surgery for a broken arm) all I seemed to do was clean stuff.....the refrigerator, the stove....I reorganized a closet.

But for the life of me I couldn't maintain much interest in TV or books...I'd watch a few minutes or read a paragraph and my mind would wander.  "Concentration" wasn't easy while the drug was at its most effective.

DR Jennifer:

A LAST-SEASON "HEROES" SPOILER

In the finale of season 1, Peter was about to go "nuclear" (this was after Hiro had stopped Siler).  Nathan rushed over to him, embraced him and flew them into the sky.   After some seconds we saw an enormous flash of light.

At the time, I had it in mind that they would NOT kill my favorite character on the show -- Peter, that is -- and devised a scenario in which he might survive, along with Nathan.  That would have Nathan going as high as possible with Peter and then letting him go (Peter was starting to retain powers he absorbed from others and he would have gotten this from Claire).

As we saw, Nathan was a wreck.  He abandoned his politics and apparently embarked upon a binge of self-recrimination.  I have no idea why his wife would have left him, especially since she knew he was special and since she, herself, had been healed.

I wasn't at all surprised to see Peter at the end of the show.  Relieved was more like it.  But it must be one heck of a good story how he managed to be handcuffed in that shipping container.  There is obviously a lot that has happened to both Petrellis that we will need to learn as the season goes forward.

Well, I had an incredible evening last night at The Manhattan Transfer concerts!!  Yes, concertS.  They are performing four nights at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley (http://www.jazzalley.com/) and are doing two shows each night (a little over an hour each set).  I bought a ticket for BOTH shows!  I sat on a stool at a "cocktail table" and didn't have to share.  No one else was seated with me.  Otherwise, both performances seemed quite full of audience members.  They did two almost completely different sets, but both were just wonderful! ;D

Right after I got to the club, I asked a bartender (since this was the second night of performances) if he knew if there would be an opportunity for me to get autographs.  He said that he would have to ask one of the managers and get back to me.  Well, a woman (I forget her name) who actually works with TMT came and said that she might be able to take some things back to the group and they might sign them.  I said that I was staying for both shows, so there was plenty of time.  After the first show was over, she came and got my CD and DVDs and got them signed!!  Even the band signed one!  My scanner isn't working so I had to take pictures of what I got signed.  Here's the first.  It's the group's live Christmas concert DVD (it's also the most difficult to make out...I brought the silver pen :)):

This next is the group's live from Japan "Vocalese" DVD!  The singers (and signers) are (clockwise from top left) Tim Hauser, Alan Paul, Cheryl Bentyne and Janis Siegel:

Tim accidentally made the mark at the bottom left corner.  Not a big deal. :)

This is the inside of the "Vocalese" DVD, where the band signed it.  The conductor/music director Yaron Gershovsky and the guitar player, Wayne Johnson actually perform with the group in this concert from 1986(!), so it's great that they signed it.  The other two players were Steve Hass (drummer) and John B. Williams on upright and electric bass...incredible musicians, all!:

And finally, this CD is Tim Hauser's very first solo CD (he's the last of the group to have a solo CD and he's the oldest member of the group ;)).  Anyway, when the woman brought this back to me, she said that Tim wanted me to know that it's the very first time that he's autographed his CD, since it was just released last week...and it's actually only available from Japan!  And he announced that during the concert!  He sang one of the songs from this CD (Nina Never Knew) as his solo spot.

HEROES SPOILER

this week and the season 1 finale

Thanks very much for reminding me. I had vaguely recalled them flying into the sky. But i had forgotten about the blast of light. I really don't get why they didn't show that in the recap.  Since i'm sure i can't be the only one to not recall everything.

It never crossed my mind that peter could be dead. To me hiro, peter and claire are the 3 who won't die. They are the best.

It is an interesting concept to go ahead 4 months. Although i'm quite sure they will have episodes where they go back.

I wasn't at all surprised to see Peter at the end of the show.
I wasn't, either.  But, then, I don't avoid reading news articles about casting and such.

For example, the guy who plays Syler on Heroes, Zachary Quinto, has been cast to play a younger version of Spock in the new Star Trek movie.  OMG, should I have put a spoiler notice on that?  Someone might not have known that the new Star Trek movie would involve Spock... not that it hasn't been all over the entertainment news reports.

Sheesh.

I can understand having a lockdown on spoilers from the east coast so that people on the west coast can watch a show fresh.  But discussion of a show within a day of it's broadcast, while it is still fresh in the viewer's memory, should be allowed.  Those who insist on recording a show to watch it at their convenience, or who aren't in the original broadcast zones, should be more tolerant of those of us who want to talk about the show.  Anything other than that is simply censorship, and contrary to freedom of speech.

Hell, the TV Guide gives more information about shows in their one-line blurbs than these censorious screechers allow!

DR EDISAURUS did not post DH GREG's response on being in the Brain Tap, so perhps we will hear about it today.

Well, do you mean his response to the answering the question posed, or on the whole experience?

He's normally a very quiet, behind-the-scenes type of person so I was happy that he was willing to go up. He wasn't very familiar with the scene, having only seen parts of the show in my editing room, so although he thought of an answer to "the quesiton" beforehand, he took a long enough pause that the audeince didn't know, and Cason had a beautiful response that got a big laugh: "We're trying to keep this show under two hours"!

After the show, about 15-20 people came up to Greg  and told them how funny and how great his responses were, so I think that made it worth the embarrasment for him.

Hi all!

Just wanted to pop in for a moment.   It’s been another long week.

I haven’t been home early in the evenings like I usually am.  I’ve started to see a chiropractor and I had two appointments this week.  I was a little skeptical about going at first but confess that it is helping more then I thought it would.

I had to do inventory at work this week at one of the units on Thursday and Friday.  Man, am I out of shape!  I was so tired when I got home on Thursday that I just fed the dogs, made myself a quick meal and went straight to bed.

I had to force myself to go out again last night but felt I had to go to a viewing for a gentleman who worked on our floor who passed away suddenly last Saturday.

I am going to his funeral this afternoon as well.  He was just two months older then I am.  It really makes you think.

I have a lot to do between now and then so I hope that everyone is doing well and vibes to those who need them!

Good morning, all! I came back to the apartment last night, posted, and went to bed.  I slept about 8.5 hours so I feel rather chipper at the moment.  For the last 20 minutes I've been sending via email the nytheatre.com review all over the country.

DR Jose, thanks for the festivity photos! I agree with DR singdaw: the "Hands" photo is fantastic!  Are you heading downtown? Do you want your birthday present today? Call me!

Today is a NYPL day, after I tidy up this dump a bit.  I get too much mail and after three days of intense work and no tidying, the place is a disaster.

Tonight, DRs Cason and Miss Karen are meeting up with Miss Erin Webley of "The Brain" cast and Im thinking I may join them, depending on how late it is.  I've got a 10 am rehearsal tomorrow for the Plaza Hotel piece, so I need to be at the rehearsal by 9:45.

Such Good Friends opened strong.  The story was told.  People got it.  All sorts of strangers came up to me to tell me they loved it.  Plus, of course, some family and friends.  The actors survived a harrowing tech day, which I smartly was nowhere near.  The costumes were wonderful, and it was also my first time seeing the lights, most of the set, and some of the props.  I’m told the portrait of the jester was painted DURING act one.  I showed up at the theatre at 7:30, said hello, and took it all in.  Very glad BK made it; looking forward to other DRs attending and saying hello.

It was neat being in a diner with a table full of people who know all the lyrics to THE MUSIC MAN!

For me, it happened when I was quite young.  I saw the movie in 1962 when I was 14.  Thanks to the paperback that featured every line and lyric, I was fully versed by age 15.

Oddly, it "took", whereas much of my high school teachings have gone phffft!

I was present for when Miss Karen was reunited with her "baby Daddy"---in a church, yet!
(After Starfighter).

Yes, my dear Skookie made Boo-Key (and me) proud of his Daddy. I knew way back when in Paris that he had talent and it would all come to this. I even met Skip (but I did not mention my Paris connection nor Boo-Key's parentage since I'm not sure how much if any of the story has been shared with him by Fred ... so the less said maybe the better)... Besides the evening belonged to Skip and SKookie to enjoy their successful opening night!

The kid was cute, but my favorite was the guy playing the alien who takes Alex on the mission. I kept thinking the actor would be great to play the lead in the Music Man. And come to find out we had a whole table of HHWers who could play the Music Man, too.

Greg was GREAT as the Brain Tap victim -- and yesterday's show was so much fun. Actually, the entire evening was fun. The HHWers were out in force at The Last Star Fighter to cheer Skip and Fred on to victory. Cilla and Samatha are a blast, Edi and Greg are the sweetest things (and continue to make me laugh with their one liners -- Greg may be shy but he can sure throw out some zingers), BJ and Cason are just to-to-to,well,entertaining ("get with the program" took on a whole new meaning as did "giving everyone a hand", as we made our way to the diner), Jose is,well, a Temptress and can really balance a cookie, and bk is,well, bk (a wacky little ol' winemaker).  And the evening included the charming Juliana at the diner, and our talented ELmo and his friend Millie (Milly, Milla, Milo -- sp?) who was raving about The Last Star Fighter as we left the church, I mean, theatre. They declined moving on to the diner with us -- what were they thinking?! They missed a lot of laughs!

That'sa some spicy meatball.

It seems now we're more in the positive column rather than the neg - three bad reviews (two from opening night, one from last Tuesday's matinee), three essentially positive reviews and one full-out rave.  None of it matters, of course, but essentially being a positive person I'm happy that right now we can accentuate the positive.

Well, there you go -- Music Man is one of my favorite musicals so no wonder I loved the Centauri character.  And the actor said several lines last night where his voice sounded a lot like Robert Preston's so kudos to the casting person and to the person who wrote the book ( ;) -- a fun character played well!

That's great!

Someone might not have known that the new Star Trek movie would involve Spock... not that it hasn't been all over the entertainment news reports.

;D  I didn't even know there was to be a new Star Trek movie.

TOD: the very stylish Chanel commercial from the late 70's/early 80's
" I am made from sunlight and golden dreams, and I will feel this way forever."   I may have this slightly off, but it's close.

And the ever classic, "Mother I'd rather do it myself!!!!!"

The Joanie Sommers 80's jingle of "Diet Pepsi, just one calorie " was so great and I've been trying to get a copy for years.  (It was even better than the classic "Come Alive-- yYou're  int he Pepsi generation.)

The Stan Freburg/ Ann Miller Great American Soup is also brililant.   I just saw it he other day.

The Imprevu perfume jingle from the mid 60's was also a classic

I promised I'd tell you about MISS KAREN'S BIG SURPRISE--so here it is.

Some of you may recall that I told Miss Karen some time back that I had a big surprise for her. I'd planned to tell her a certain piece of information when we met in person, whenever that happened. Then, about a month ago, Miss K, based on some of my posts, mentioned that she felt that she and I are soul sisters. I, too, had noticed that we share some views and couldn't deny the soul sisters bit. At that point I could no longer keep my information a secret; I HAD to tell her. And it is...I'm a Murphy. I was born Jean Murphy. Not only that, but my dad was from Texas, the home state of Miss K and her DH. I have relatives on my dad's side I've never met, don't even know their names. So Miss K and I did some checking of our respective family trees (well, DH's and mine). We haven't found any links, but, I tell you, I find it rather UNCANNY.

So there it is. Make of it what you will. JRAND says there are no coincidences.
Title: Re:THE LITTLE OLD WINEMAKER, ME

And even though I had planned not to step into the fray on this one...  As for Spoiler Alerts...

Yes, sometimes, in the rush and excitement to describe/discuss things, a Spoiler Warning will not be posted.  Yes, DRs from time to time have asked that they be posted, and for the most(!) part, they have been.  And when they don't, well... It happens.

And it's not just an East Coast/West Coast thing.  There have been times when some of us East Coasters have recorded the program to watch it later while the West Coasters have watched it live - at least in their time zone.  ;)

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that it's just TV.  That may sound like a truly simplistic blanket statement, and, well, it is.  And with all the coverage about television program and movies elsewhere on the web and in print, you may find yourself "spolied" just by a casual glance at a homepage or the cover of TV guide.  In turn, you may find yourself reading something you didn't want to read.  Again, that happens.  Is your life going to fall apart knowing that a favorite character got killed?, or knowing in advance that there's going to some sort of major twist at the end?

No.

HHW has always been a place of respect, a "living room" as DR MusicGuy coined a few years ago.  And there's bound to be some missed spoiler warnings, slightly hurt feelings, misunderstandings, and mis-readings from time to time.  But we all manage to hug (and sometimes kiss) and make-up eventually.

In regards to DR MattH, I don't think it's been an secret - even to the newer DRs - that he watches and loves his television programs (and DVDs).  Heck, he's even a reviewer for a website as DR Ron Pulliam stated, so he spends a lot of time in his Media Room.  Technically, he should (have) post a SPOILER WARNING before a majority of the posts he's posted.  -I know I haven't seen all the movies he's been reviewing and watching for his own pleasure.  And will the fact that I know how a certain classic film ends spoil my possible future viewing of it?  No.

So...  If you we happen to know that a certain TV program was on "last night", and we know that certain DRs happen to watch certain programs, well, there's always the scroll and "page down" buttons on your computer's keyboard.  -And if you happen to miss an interesting, non-TV-related bit of business, well, that happens too.  I think it's wonderful that we all try to be conscientious about reading each and every word in each and every post, but sometimes that's just not possible for all of us to do every single day.  -Am I right about that?

I do hope that Matt comes back to the site sooner rather than later.  (And there are times when we all takes breaks from the site anyway.)  In the meantime, I think we all just need to take a deep breath, and remember how much LOVE comes from this site when someone is in pain, sick, has a death in the family, etc.  That's all certainly more important than knowing in advance, by accident, what happened at the end of a television program.

*I have about two weeks of shows on the DVR here that I have yet to get to - and I don't even know when I'll get to them.  -And, yes, some of them have been "spoiled" for me - although mainly through casual conversations with some friends.  I'm still going to try my best to watch them.  I simply enjoy the programs, and there are programs I watch more than once - and they're just as if not more enjoyable on the second - or even third or fourth - viewing.  Heck, there have been whole seasons of show I was only able to catch during their summer reruns, and I was certainly not going to ask that there be no discussion about those shows until I had seen them.  Sheesh, that would have cut the number of postings down quite a bit! ;)

Hell, the TV Guide gives more information about shows in their one-line blurbs than these censorious screechers allow!

I refuse to buy or read TV Guide for that exact reason.  I basically avoid reviews of movies, tv shows & books until after I experience them for myself.

There is so much to watch right now & if you only watch one or two shows a night it's impossible to keep up.  I suppose that is why we really limit the new shows we will continue to watch.

My intent is not to limit or censor any discussions, I just asked for a way to avoid reading information I'm not ready to read yet, and still read the rest of what a person has to say.

I love the discussions & have gone back to read them after I have caught up.  I can't help it, but if I read little bits of information that seem like nothing to someone else, I'm waiting for the "moment" to happen that I read about & it can really take away the fun or suspense of a show.  I think much of my problem is the fact where other people are surprised, I'm not, so I really don't want anything that makes it easier for me to know what is going to happen.

I wish I weren't so very sensitive & unaffected by all the information out there regarding shows.

Did bk notice that we had this same title for the notes on July 31st? Then it was The Li'l Old Winemaker, so maybe his computer didn't pick up on that!

I'm trying to remember which wine had this slogan.

Stossel Bio (http://216.109.125.130/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=Li%27l+Old+Winemaker&fr=yfp-t-501&u=www.mtv.com/movies/person/60396/personmain.jhtml&w=li%27l+old+winemaker&d=LoxvEudmPa1s&icp=1&.intl=us)

Quote
Ludwig Stossel enjoyed another wave of public adoration for his appearances in Italian Swiss Colony Wine commercials; he was the little old tyrolean-outfitted fellow who turned to the audience and identified himself (with Jim Backus' dubbed-in voice) as "That li'l old winemaker....me."

Saturday afternoon greetings from our home inHell's Kitchen Clinton!  DH Richard, our luggage, and I arrived right on time after 2 beautiful flights.  We've been to Eatery for lunch and are now back at our apartment, unpacking and settling in.

I spoke by phone to DR Vixmom from the taxi in from LGA - she, The Vixter, DR WFO, and his ever-lovin' Joe were right behind us on the highway and they're now all enjoying the Starfighter matinee.  She's to call me when they're out and we'll take it from there.

Any other plans for the evening?

I have decide to humpr my aging bones and minimize the Sunday driving fatigue: we shall take the Lewes-Cape May Ferry at 7:AM on Sunday, arriving in NJ at 8:10, a mere 160 miles from NYC.  That $44 ferry ride saves a big one hour drive over the alternative (up I95 and cross the Delaware Memorial Bride to the Jersey Turnpike) - also the Garden State Freeway trip up Jersey is much less likely to be traffic impacted than the alternative I95/NYP route. Too bad there's no place to get lunch in Manhattan

From Edi last night....

Not so! As far as I could tell, the show was near perfect, and it had a lot of technical elements to it and a very nice set with lotos of set chanes. The set design was very clever and worked well for the show.

The approach of adapting the film to a musical worked great. I don't want to say too much about it since I know others plan on coming to see it bur I admired how skillfully Fred & Skip tred the line with not being overly reverent to the film and not mocking it' either. The tone was perfect. And the music was so beautiful and the songs were so catchy, with such funny lyrics. These are songs you can sing coming out of the theatre, and some of us were.

The crowd loved the show and it was almost a full house. I liked everyone in the cast very much and they seemed to be having a great time in the show. Skip and Fred should be very proud of their achievement!

It is so wonderful to see DR Danise checking in on a regular basis.  I wish she could stay longer.

...I basically avoid reviews of movies, tv shows & books until after I experience them for myself....My intent is not to limit or censor any discussions, I just asked for a way to avoid reading information I'm not ready to read yet, and still read the rest of what a person has to say....
Dear Jane, I understand what you are saying, but try to understand this from another point of view.

In many ways, what DR Music Guy has used as an analogy is quite accurate - this board is much like a livingroom, where we have gathered and several conversations are going on at once.  So let's suppose that we're all together in a real living room, face to face, holding a conversation.  (Or, perhaps, we're all gathered together at a restaurant table, which given this group is quite likely.)  Let's suppose that several of us have seen a program/movie/play/read a book that you haven't seen/read, and are discussing the program/movie/play/book.  How do you handle that situation?  Do you ask everyone not to discuss what they want to?  Or could you instead shrug, admit that life is swirling around you and sometimes you just have to let it happen?  Heck, maybe you won't have heard of the program/movie/play/book, and the discussion will pique your interest.

Having to post "spoiler alert" with every phrase written about something impedes the give and take of the conversation, particularly when part of that give and take can consist of a single sentence, a snappy reply.  And it is danged intimidating.  It's like being in that room, at that table, and suddenly having to halt a conversation because "that person over there" might not like what is being said.  And while "that person over there" is probably a very nice, sweet sort of gal/guy, suddenly everyone else is having to be afraid of that person's feelings.  And that fear can create resentment.

I don't think anyone here wants that kind of resentment floating in the air.

That's great!

Thanks, Jane!  It was an evening I'll rememeber for a long time! ;D

GEORGE,
IIRC, there have been a couple changes to TMT members over the years. Are you a fan of TMT over its lifetime or just of certain members?

I LOVE THEM ALL!! ;) I was introduced to them in the early 1980s through my high school choir (as were so many, I would assume).  I've been a huge fan ever since.

There has only been one member change.  The original soprano, Laurel Massé, left the group after four records and an automobile accident.  She has since gone on to record several wonderful (imho) solo recordings.  Cheryl Bentyne (her replacement) has been with the group since 1979!  She's also originally from Mt. Vernon, Washington, so she's a local girl!  And their guitar player Wayne Johnson is from Spokane, Washington!

No, perhaps not.  But I've been chastised for not posting a poiler alert when I posted nothing in the way of spoiling anything, and sometimes you plain forget do do it.

That said, I also resent the fact that the tone of you should have posted a spoiler alert is not always the most pleasant.  Also, I can see a West Coast person hoping someone on the East Coast will not post something about what will air three hours later, but when it comes to Tivo, DVR, whatever, you pays your price and you names your poison.  I bought the new HARRY POTTER the day it was released.  when will I read it? Who knows? Is there any way at this point in time I'm not aware of most of the spoilers?  For those who don't know, Harry lives!

Well, well, well!

DR George, I am envious of the autographs but even more envious of the dvds and cd!

So glad for you! :)

Well...speaking of spoilers, I'm now going to watch "Heroes."  I haven't had any time until now, so that's what I'm going to do.  And I have some other shows to watch, as well.  Later this afternoon, I'm ushering for the Best of the Seattle International Comedy Competition (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=892) at the Washington Center, here in Olympia.  It should be very funny!  Have a good day/evening, all!! :D

And since it is very late here on the East Coast, and since I have rehearsal in 10 hours and 45 minutes...

Goodnight.

Lovely, lovely pictures, DR Jose!!

Hmmm...; I have to say that I am envious (again!!) of.... Julianna! I wish I was given that rose by that curly blond hair fellow! Just my style! :o :D

If DR Jason does NOT continue his "hat series," I, for one, will be very disappointed!

When he's touring in A Christmas Carol, we can get a different hat in each town on the tour - a sort of millinery travelogue!

Hats to you!

Back from a lovely afternoon showing of The Last Starfighter, a brief visit with FJL and Skip, and then lunch with a whole mess o' hainsies/kimlets.

Someone on talkin broadway made a nice post about some of the NYMF shows they've seen, and then said Brain was their favorite.  Guess who showed up to post directly after?  Yes - westcoastdrama - who unctiously said "That's great to hear - too bad the NY Times said it was tripped up by a too-long second act after a brisk first act."  I mean, how pathetic is this twerp?  How bitter?  He finds the one line that's a criticism (and it's not the worst we've had and is rather mild, and it happened to be a criticism of EVERY  show she reviewed except for one).  His agenda is so bloody obvious.  I also met talkin broadway's critic, Matthew Murray, today at TLS.  Very nice fellow, and I thanked him for his nice review.

Perhaps elmore will go over and ream westcoastdrama and mention his bitterness and sarcasm and how it just makes his agenda so blatant.  If he'd just said "That's great to hear" that would have been fine.  To call out that one line as if to somehow rain on the parade of the person posting is disgusting.
Title: Re:THE LITTLE OLD WINEMAKER, ME

I don't think typing "SPOILER ALERT" is that big a deal.  And I don't think it just one or two individuals that appreciates the other person's consideration.

Conversely, dear TCB, one person's "general comment" is another person's "spoiler" and sometimes it just isn't possible to resolve the difference of opinion.

For me, I've found it easier to accept that some folks post information I don't want to read, and I've gotten accustomed to skipping past that person's post the minute I see the name of a show or movie I want to watch but haven't seen yet.

One thing I've learned in my 59 years:  It is seldom possible that someone is going to change just because I want him to.  If I cannot convince him that he is wrong, then perhaps it is I who should change...or accept him as he is.

Dear obsessed one, I posted earlier that I doubt it since BK had posted last weekduring his frustration with the designer that he was sure  she would be getting the nondeserved credit.  The program info is for the costumer, I believe, and not the wardrobe mistress who's been taking charge.  Of course, I've been wrong before.

Hi, Elmore!  I hadn't realized hthat it was a wardrobe mistress who'd taken charge, I thought it was an assistant to the designer.  (Or are they one in the same? You see, I reveal my total ignorance of the process. )

DR Woody, I really didn’t want to go there again…but here it goes.

We aren’t in a living room.  We are at a keyboard where all is needed is pressing the “enter” key a couple of times & maybe adding one little word.   I only requested this for one little portion of conversations on this board, just for the first few days after a show has aired; just time enough for us slow pokes to catch up, and only for first run episodes.  I’m sorry this request has caused so much resentment.  To me this was never about curtailing anyone’s speech, just trying to explain I have a different level of “do not need to know” then other people do.

I apologize for my tone in requesting the spoilers & semi spoilers; it was not intended to hurt anyone.   And I promise never to comment on what I consider too much information again.

RE: posting spoilers at HHW.

I feel like if it's an awards show or something with results that you should put a spoiler warning in case someone has not watched yet.

As for regular dramas, i think it is considerate to just put the word spoiler at the top with the name of the show. I don't think that takes much effort.

But at the very least just put the name of the show on its own line and leave a space. So people who have not watched that episode yet can choose to read or not.

Btw, I wrote my spoiler comments before reading jane's comments. But i don't see why anyone should make her or anyone else feel bad for such a minimal request.

I love it when people here discuss the current episodes.

But i think it should be possible to discuss them, yet not spoil anyone who hasn't yet watched the show.

I personally really really hate having a major plot point/winner-runners up in a reality show spoiled.  So i truly appreciate it when anyone makes the effort to put spoiler warning. But i also really love discussing shows like LOST and HEROES and would hate it if people stopped posting about them.

I wrote MattH an e-mail he never responded to, so that sort of irks me.  I found his behavior strange - I didn't think there was any tone in either Jane or Dakota Celt's posts and I think their point was obvious.  I would say that the easy solution is to skip MattH's posts that are about TV shows and films where it's obviousl he'll be discussing those shows and films.

If he needs a nice, long break, we'll survive and so will he.  If and when he comes back, that will be fine, too.  So, we've all said our piece so let's now have peace and put this issue to bed.

elmore has been apprising me of Bruce Pomohac''s thoughts on the Brain, and I must say I'm very touched by them.  Most especially, the fact that he "got" the sweetness of the show, instead of just the comedy of it.  We tried to instill it with a little sweetness and heart, but most people don't notice it and/or care about it.

Oooh! I thought it was "The Food Guide"!!
I'm confusing that with the musical DR Jose's writing right now! Sorry! ;)

Hi, DR Jose!  Thanks for the welcome - we'll have to talk about a trip to Levain.

Richard and I had a delightful visit with DRs Priscilla, Samantha, Vixmom, The Vixter, BK, WFO and Joe, Miss Karen and Cason at West Side Cottage.  We then grocery shopped along 9th Ave. and came home to crash.  We'd thought about going out to a movie or something, but decided we'd had a long day and we're just going to watch Failure to Launch on Showtime and try to recover from our 4am wake-up call.

So... Just something to think about...

Brunch tomorrow?  Just wondrin'.

Hmmm, Richard and I are going to church near Times Square at 10am - he's going to stay for the 11am service and a class afterwards, but I'm free.  Call me if anything develops.

I know what you mean.  I watch FUNNY FACE for Audrey.  I sort of ignore the age difference cuz I figure they have to use young actresses for these roles & he was the big star for the other half.

Omigawd!  Two naysayers on FUNNY FACE!  With DR MattH on sabbatical, it must be my turn to be on the opposing side - I've loved everything about Donen's FUNNY FACE since I saw it as a mere tot on the 4 pm Million Dollar Movie!  Age difference?  What age difference?  They're in LOVE!  (The age difference bothers me in Cukor's MY FAIR LADY, though).
FUNNY FACE is sublime!  Gorgeous Gershwin songs, and Hepburn's own singing voice; the beyond sublime Kay Thompson; the photographer (and the photographs) Richard Avedon, realistically played by Astaire; the Paris locations; the color schemes; Audrey and Kay doing "On How to Be Lovely," Fred's dance beneath Audrey's garret; Audrey's po-mo dance; the trip to the Louvre (not to be confused with a trip to the loo; although there must have been, and must still be, a Louvre loo); "Bonjour Paris,"  oh, my, too, too many things that I love about FUNNY FACE.
Side note, though not the first assignment from Richard Valley at Scarlet Street, my review of the first dvd of FUNNY FACE was my first published review for said magazine.

Such Good Friends had a second performance in which we could all relax and enjoy.  Yesterday’s opening came after a long day of NYMF people yelling at our far-more-experienced professionals, providing obstructions at every turn.  As a result, Act Two was never run-through with costumes, scene changes, lights or microphones.  So, the opening had a certain air of Will-We-Make-It-Through-This?  Today, we all knew it could be done, and the audience responded with many more laughs and tears.  Again, all sorts of strangers approached me – sought me out – to say how moved and entertained they were.  One lady, over 60, I’d say, said she never knew any of this happened.  But I must say reactions to the show are extremely satisfying to me.  The backers are thrilled to have backed it; “thoroughly entertained” is a phrase uttered often.

Then, my family threw us all a lovely party in the rooftop party room of a condo down the street.  It was our first time to socialize, and boy did we!  Thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company for more than four hours.  We were sitting outside, taking in the beauty of the sunset as reflected on midtown skyscrapers.  The brain himself (Barry Pearl) was there.  A wonderful time was had by all.

JANE,
I promised I'd tell you about MISS KAREN'S BIG SURPRISE--so here it is.

Amazing!

Paging Larry Craig department:  my bossa nova quartet is playing a really lovely place in downtown Portland called the Living Room Theaters.  The front part of the place is a beautiful bar/restaurant, and then they have 6 boutique theaters in the back that seat about 30-40 people each and play "art house" fare.  Well, anyway, they have these really interesting rest rooms (I know, time to get a life), with gorgeous "sinks" (though they're not really sinks) made of slanted granite slabs with spouts above them.  The water then just kind of spews out onto the slab and gravity pulls it back to a hidden drain.  It's really cool looking.  But the most interesting thing (that I know of, anyway  :o) is above the "sinks" they have a wall of mirrors, but "hidden" between the mirrors are strips of smoked glass where you can see through to the women's room, above their sinks.  I hadn't noticed this at all until one of my bandmates pointed it out.  And then, sure enough, I was in there washing my hands and saw a woman on the other side.  She had her head down and then looked up, saw me, did a double take and let out the loudest scream you've ever heard.  It was hilarious.  The even funnier thing is almost the exact same thing happened the next time I was in there, only this time the woman was so freaked out she sprayed water all over her side of the mirror.  Priceless.

Posting a critical comment about a private correspondence isn't likely to woo him back or make him feel welcome.  It seems more like "public chastisement" that I'm sure no one on this forum would appreciate receiving from you.

3D-I couldn't resist laughing.

I do wish Matt would return.

His whole issue, if I understand it correctly, is the idea of being "publicly" chastised (whether that was the intent or not).

Now that BK has taken him to task on the forum over a "private" matter, I doubt Matt will ever return.

Understanding of "both" sides is very important in mediation.  Being irked or saying someone is exhibiting "strange behavior" is basically saying "good riddance", IMO.  Who the hell would want to post here any more after that?

In fact, I'm pretty much fed up with this myself.

I know what you mean.  I watch FUNNY FACE for Audrey.  I sort of ignore the age difference cuz I figure they have to use young actresses for these roles & he was the big star for the other half.

Who do you think could have played Astaire's roles instead?

I would have used Gene Kelly.

This add dates from the 70s and it was a Christmas one that a regional bank did

It was two little kids looking out the window and they see a snowman dancing. they quickly dress and go outside and the snowman is still. The little boy asks his sister is she saw it and she did.

after they go back inside the snowman winks with a voice over that had something to this effect... Enjoy the magic of christmas...

they played that ad for years.. Sweet ad.

I know Leslie Caron was NOT happy at all that they did not use her singing for Gigi!

I don't think Audrey minded much; the last reissue of Fair Lady soundtrack (cd) has her singing for Lady... and it's not too great either!

Adriana Patti -- Okay, I'll refresh your memory.  We had pancakes with Bruce at Dupar's in Farmer's Market earlier this year.

td, don't get mad at me, but I think that Audrey's singing in FUNNY FACE is just terrible! Granted, the song is hard to sing but still... She obviously was no singer!

Next to Betty Buckley's performance on the S.T.A.G.E benefit, Audrey's is the ONLY version I like. . .
And I like Audrey's because it's sung as a character, her discovery and her journey with that voice are, IMHO, simply perfection.

TD, I respect your opinoin but respectfully disagree.

I just feel it is not one of her stronger roles.

I loved hier in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

So did I, but BREAKFAST had Mickey Rooney's Mister Yunioshi and George Peppard's Fred.

Buddy Ebson, Patricia Neal and the divine Audrey, not to mention Mancini's score and Edwards' direction are what make BREAKFAST meaningful to me. . .

Posting a critical comment about a private correspondence isn't likely to woo him back or make him feel welcome.  It seems more like "public chastisement" that I'm sure no one on this forum would appreciate receiving from you.

There was no private correspondence, just my e-mail to him which went without response.  That is not chastisement - I"m posting the fact that it irked me, just as I would post about anything that irks me, as you well know.  You can speak for yourself, of course, but not for others on this board.  I did find his behavior odd - I said it here.  That's not chastisement, just my opinion, as you well know.  I sent him a nice e-mail stating the facts as I saw them, and I have stated those same facts here since I found out about it.  If someone needs a long break, then so be it.  If someone comes back and cuts the break short, great.  I see no need to woo or not woo - I haven't seen much evidence of people holding back their opinions and I'm certainly not holding back mine.  What people "appreciate" or not appreciate is, I'm sure you'll agree, their business and I'm equally sure you don't need to speak for them, as they all stand up and make themselves heard perfectly well.

This is not a public chastisement, unless one were to consider your post a public chastisement.

I would just like to say that everyone I have met so far is absolutely wonderful!!! You are all truly the nicest people I have ever met. This is my first New York trip and it is the most amazing place I've ever been in my life!! I just love it!! I am so glad Cil decided to invite me along... I have seen so  much in the short time I've been here. However, I am truly greatful I got the opportunity to meet some of you here in New York, and meet the rest of you online. I thank all of you for being so nice to me and welcoming me into your world!!
