Well, you've read the notes, the notes were there, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - what is clear is that they're there - not here.
-
And the word of the day is: INFRANGIBLE!
-
* wish fulfilling vibes to Bruce*
-
Good Morning!
Well, of course, as soon as I got into bed, I was suddenly wide awake, so...
Here I am!
;)
-
...And I think we have convened at The Brooklyn Diner (which is in Manhattan) four times this week, but maybe not four times in a row. And if not this week, well, most definitely in the past ten days.
-
Let's see... Besides myself and BK... Tuesday night with DRs Miss Karen, Cason and Alet... Wednesday night post-Brain, post-Theatre Row Diner with DRs Jason, Cason, Miss Karen, MusicGuy, Jeanne, singdaw and BJ... Friday night post-Starfighter/Friends with DRs Cason, Miss Karen, Cillaliz, Samantha, Juliana, Edisaurus and her ever-lovin' Greg and BJ... And earlier tonight (Saturday) with DR Cillaliz, Samantha, Edisaurus and her ever-lovin' Greg (who was basically BJ's stand-in tonight ;) ).
-
Hello again, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
...And it really has been great having The Brain Gang here over the past couple of weeks, especially DR Cason, and, of course, bk. Sheesh... Bukowsical! seems like ages ago already, and that was just in August.
And to think of the number of slices of Monkey Cake and Levain cookies that have been consumed over the past six to eight weeks... The mind boggles! ;D
*And I do hope that Amy's Bread has The Monkey Cake tomorrow. If not, I can run down to the Chelsea Market location for a whole cake. :)
-
And, once again...
Goodnight.
-
Bruce: Earlier this evening you posted:
There was no private correspondence, just my e-mail to him which went without response. That is not chastisement - I"m posting the fact that it irked me, just as I would post about anything that irks me, as you well know. You can speak for yourself, of course, but not for others on this board. I did find his behavior odd - I said it here. That's not chastisement, just my opinion, as you well know. I sent him a nice e-mail stating the facts as I saw them, and I have stated those same facts here since I found out about it. If someone needs a long break, then so be it. If someone comes back and cuts the break short, great. I see no need to woo or not woo - I haven't seen much evidence of people holding back their opinions and I'm certainly not holding back mine. What people "appreciate" or not appreciate is, I'm sure you'll agree, their business and I'm equally sure you don't need to speak for them, as they all stand up and make themselves heard perfectly well.
This is not a public chastisement, unless one were to consider your post a public chastisement.
My post spoke for me. You may, of course, consider it any way you choose.

Good morning, all! I am so sorry to see the end of this run of "The Brain." Thank God I have other issues - like how will the Plaza Hotel piece play down today? - before confronting my period of mourning for the show. I felt the very same way when I left LA last December during the run, that the party was ending too soon and should continue longer. I will miss enormously the talented boys in the band who have been a major asset, enthusiastically with the show since they came to the first rehearsal, and the wonderful cast who make me smile with appreciation and admiration through every performance.
So I guess it's on to new and other projects, so we'll see if my work at NYMF this year brings in any other work or if the Plaza job leads to something else. Such is the curse of self-employment.
I have several friends coming to the show tonight so that's very exciting, and I look forward to seeing the folks I've missed so far - Bill Orr and Joe, vixmom, Ginny and Richard - tonight.
-
I have not had a chance to read last night's posts yet. But i wanted to give my comments on this past week's new CW show REAPER.

re: reaper
I think a couple of other DRs said that they liked it. I'm not sure yet how i feel. I didn't love it. But I will try it again this week.
I've recorded a bunch of the new shows (i'm in the middle of CHUCK). and while i knew i loved GOSSIP GIRL right from the start. I can't decide how i feel about REAPER.
The lead guy is just okay. The lead girl is okay. ANd the friend is okay. The whole devil thing is odd. But it could work.
The one part that actually changed my mind a bit (for the better) was something that happened at around :45. Up until then i really was not sure how this kid would help the devil. I've watched shows like CHARMED and loved them. But i was not loving this show until they sort of clarified what they were going to do.
Now it seems like the people they send to hell will be bad "people" who are going to be committing more crimes. This sort of makes it better to me. Because they are like crimefighters vs people doing bad things with the devil.
So i will try it again to see if the cases they go on are interesting. It's not the greatest idea ever (parents sold the kid's soul to the devil). But it could be cute.

Sunday morning greetings! We made the right decision to stay in last night - watched a movie, settled in, and slept quite well. Sorry to have missed the dessert gathering at Brooklyn Diner last night - I was asleep by the time it was scheduled to begin. I'm now enjoying a morning routine much like mine at home - Richard's snoozing, I've showered and am having my coffee and catching up with HHW.
We'll be heading down to Times Square in an hour or so for church. I'll be there from 10-11, Richard's staying longer. If a gathering develops after 11am, somebody please call me.
-
HI! Vixter and I had a wonderful time at Starfighter yesterday!
We had been lucky enough to see the staged reading last year when BK played Otis/Grig and the Vixter was shocked to see that he was not in the role again. I explained it would be a bit much as Bruce was busy producing and directinghis own NYMF show, but she still missed him in the part.
I won't get into many of the details of the show for the benefit of those who plan to see it on the upcoming week but I can't wait to discuss it in more detail with those who have already seen it!
I must admit that I did not miss the live orchestra, in fact, until BK mentioned it in his notes I didn't actually notice.... (possibly a product of having listened to the CD so much that the recorded sound just sounded "right" to my ear!)
-

(The sound of bells and buzzers) Beware! Beware! Enabler Alert!
And beware of any Temptress carrying goody bags!
-
Ginny- Vix and I will be attending church and teaching Sunday School and then driving in, we should be in town between 1 & 2 depending on traffic (and the length of the sermon!)
I'll call to see if any one is around.
At the very least we will be visiting Amy's Breads to see if there is any Monkey Cake
-
I am really enjoying reading about all the NYC get togethers!
For DR Jane, I am feeling a bit better. My fever is completely gone (thank goodness). I only had that really bad fever that one night (wed). My sore throat is mostly gone. It was really bad wed/thurs and started feeling better friday. It's not perfect. BUt it doesn't kill when i swallow.
However those symptoms have turned into new ones. Sort of a sinus head cold with blocked ears, runny nose. But these symptoms are much better than the others ones. Still very tired though and not sleeping too well.
-
Good Morning!! It was 3:00 AM before Sam turned off the computer and turned out the light. Not sure if I slept at all before that, but I woke up at 7:15 and here I am. She is still sleeping, which is what I'd like to be doing, lol. Anyway, we're planning to go on the Staten Island ferry today and go to the Brain tonight. Everything else is negotiable.
-
Can't believe my week of musical theatre is coming to a close -- but what a way to go out -- with The Brain's closing night. All the NYC HHWers, as well as all the tourista HHWers, have been just the greatest folks!
-
Here's a photo of Sam and I after Legally Blonde..That's Laura Bell Bundy between us

Here's "Hoping You Arrive At Amy's Before the Temptress" vibes -- otherwise there may be no Monkey Cake to be had ... ;)

Here's Sam with her new BFF DR Jose

From our Central Park adventures
-
Beautiful photo from Stawberry Fields. The light is perfect!
-
Good morning! Poor Greg had to get up at 6 to catch his train, after going to bed @2. So I hope he stays awake for the shows!
Any plans for today? Der B and Woody will be in town around 10 and were thinking of going to the zoo, animal lovers that they are. But they sound like they're up for most anything interesting.
Tonight we will be rushing to grab Thai food with Peter Miller and family before we all go to the 6th BRAIN.
-
Vixmom - Thank vixter for her lovely phone message!
-
Still wishing I were in NYC sharing all the festivities!
Great, great, photos, DR Cillaliz!
DR Samantha - that first trip to NYC will always remain special; your trip sure looks special to me!
-
DR Edisaurus, I was thinking about you (and Greg) last night as I watching the "special features" on the new DELIVERANCE dvd. . . .
I say "special features" because they were thrown together by that Laurent person, hence talk then clip, talk then clip - yeesh! (I hope you or Greg had NOTHING to with it. . .)
-
With a push, we could get to Page Two. . .
-
Oh, yes, we could indeed get to Page Two. . .hopefully before I put on my shoes, head out the door and go to work. . . ;)
-
The only one I've ever done is THE MUSIC MAN.
(and...shudder...a few for The Olsen Twins and Scooby Do...)
BK never said what he thought of the Music Man extra. Hmmmmmm....
That was probably 10 years ago---I've gotten better, I hope!
-
Thanks for the compliments on the photos. There are others that will never be shown on HHW.....you'll just have to use your imaginations

DR Cillaliz, you could use your PhotoShop's cropping feature and still show us the pictures. . . . ;D

. . .and we did make it to page two. . . .
laters, gang!

No, I may post others, but some things that happen in New York, stay in New York ;)
-
Cilla, you and Sam are going to the Statue of Liberty today, right?
-
Here's Sam with her new BFF DR Jose
Hel-looooo, Saa-manthaa (Brooklyn Diner reference from bk wth faux cigarette in hand) and hel-looo Jose --- what a cute picture of a couple of real cuties!!
-
Gotta scram -- looking forward to seeing the last NYMF Brain -- and all the Brainiacs tonight!!
-
Good morning to all, especially Edisaurus and FJL who are logged in right now.
-
Oh, and JRand is now here. - Good morning!

I understand the feeling DR Elmore, for I, too, will very much miss the show I've been working on.
I hope you get many more projects in the future that you enjoy as much as you've loved being part of BRAIN.
-
Good morning, Julie! It was great meeting you at your show the other night. We enjoyed it SO MUCH!
-
Have we done a head count for tonight? We're trying to see how many people will be getting together afterwards...
-
Can't believe my week of musical theatre is coming to a close -- but what a way to go out -- with The Brain's closing night. All the NYC HHWers, as well as all the tourista HHWers, have been just the greatest folks!
I'm so glad you and all the other HHW visitors had such a fun week in NY. I'm sad that my own work kept me from joining in all of the gatherings with you. But I will be at BRAIN tonight, so one last opportunity to be with some of you and join in giving BRAIN a great send-off for it's final NYMF performance - with wishes for bigger and longer productions in it's future.
-
Love all the photos, DR Cillaliz!
-
Thanks for the compliments on the photos. There are others that will never be shown on HHW.....you'll just have to use your imaginations
That hardly seems fair. ::)
Then again, you have NO IDEA what my imagination can conjure. ;D

Hello DRS JULIE, EDISAURUS, ARNOLDBROCKMAN, and FJL.
The room is FULL of show business mavens this morning, as I get ready to go to work.
Lovely photos from DR CILLA LIZ today.
And what a wonderful post from DR NOEL yesterday about his show and gathering..... Paints a lovely picture.
Great STARFIGHTER news.....and it just keeps coming.
-
Slight change of plans here - we weren't moving fast enough to get to the 10am service, so I'm going to attend the 11am. Probably won't have my phone on until 12:30 or so.
-
Now that the three NYMF shows are under way, i must say that likely the most difficult part of the NYMF rules has been the need to have a functional, imaginative set that can be stored in what's essentially a storage area of about 16 square feet. Kudos to Anne Goelz, our STARFIGHTER set designer, and Ken Larson, our set builder, for doing such lovely work under these constraints.
BK and Noel, how have you dealt with this, which to our show was (to my mind) the scariest part of our design situation?
-
And the word of the day is: INFRANGIBLE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I WANNA BE AROUND TO PICK UP THE PIECES
-
Good morning, Julie! It was great meeting you at your show the other night. We enjoyed it SO MUCH!
I was SO GLAD to meet you in person,. and just sorry I couldn't spend more time chatting with you then. I'm very happy that you loved the show. It was great to see you there!
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up. If I can ever log onto AOL I'll see if my boarding pass e-mail has arrived, and then I'll go over to Fed Ex Kinko's and print it out.
-
DR GINNY and MR BK have arrived in the living room.
Who would I have cast instead of Astaire in FUNNY FACE (parts of which I enjoy)....hmmmm....no NOT Kelly! LOL....
Hmmmm....1957...I will have to THINK about that one.
As for wooing and 20 year old....DR RLP....I don't have enough money for that.
-
DRs Edi and Julie - we're looking forward to meeting you both in person today!
Edi - tonight=Richard and myself, plus maybe our friends Doug and Jon. They will be at the show - don't know if they'll stay to party afterwards. I'll be hearing from them this afteroon.
Julie - not all out-of-town HHWers are bailing tomorrow. Richard and I are here all week and will be seeing Noel's show Wednesday at 4:30 and yours (and Fred & Skip's ;)) at 9pm. I can't wait!
Off to church!
-

Are you interested in lunch after church?
-
Ooops...I lost her!
-
Cilla, you and Sam are going to the Statue of Liberty today, right?
We're going to take the Staten Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty - not going to Liberty Island. We're just starting to wake up...I will have my phone on.
-

Great - I will see you and Richard tonight!

The BRAIN will be rocking tonight!!! And we must have MORE photos!
Love the photo of DRS SAMANTHA and JOSE.
And the IMAGINE photo was certainly outstanding, DR CILLA LIZ....might make a nice addition to the office decor!
-
Off to work on this LAST day of September.
Planets are right for educational and literary pursuits starting at 1:30 p.m. today and continuing for the next four days....so write away right away.
Off to work.
-
I guess I'll head over to Fed Ex/Kinko's and get that out of the way.
-
Der B and Woody are on their way into the city. (I think they're on the bridge...)
They are asking about brunch and that Jose mentioned doing something at The Brooklyn Diner.
As they say in THE BRAIN, "Again?" Or are we thinking of the plans that transpired last night?
Ginny will be available after church but we can leave a message on her cell.
-
I guess I'll head over to Fed Ex/Kinko's and get that out of the way.
Vibes on getting your boarding pass printed easily!
-
Cillaliz-
Love the Photo Shoot.
Give Us More
Regards to Samantha and The Statue Of Liberty
-
Good morning! Just sittin ghere, sucking caffeine and catching up - Cilla Liz, what lovely photos. Thanks for posting them.
Wow - 6th and final Brain... why had i thought there were only 5??? Anyhow, have a good one, a memorable one, a tech-screw-up-free one.
I might just take a little jaunt over to the Getty Garden today... feeling the need. The lushness of the Northwest is something I miss... but I got the word from Seattle friends that it has been raining quite a lot since I left a week ago, and even snowed up at the cabin two days ago. Yipes.
-
Good morning, Edisaurus!! Say a big hello to DerB and Woody for me. How had it escaped me that they would be making the drive into Noo Yawk??? Oy... Alzheimer's???
-
And yet, during my shows last week, I remembered every word of my 90-minute monologue, after more than two years. Go figure.
-
Dare I go check out the Sunday morning news shows on TeeVee? Never seems to change much - lotsa people waving their fists about stuff, lots of people bleeding, much sturm und drang... ummmm.... maybe I'll just stay put.
-
I must say, as an old Harry Browne fan, I'm interested in the Ron Paul stuff.
-
But there is not much in the "major media" about him or his ideas. Internet is abuzz!! I love that part.
-
And, as I'm talin' to mah-seff, agin, I think I'll just go peruse the weirder nuse, and have another cuppa Joe. Laters, skaters!
-
Hello everyone.
Marvelous Matt is here and I must be involved with all that home improvement stuff. No time to catch up on the posts.
Will try to BBL.
-
Dakota,
Your inbox is full.
-
Someone let me know if there's a brunch going on.
-
Back from printing out my boarding pass and shipping one more small box home.
-
Hope FJL and Noel are enjoying all their kudos!
-
I'm going to go meet Woody and Der B at the Brooklyn diner on 57th @ 7th. Call me if anyone is interested in joining us...
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I guess I slept in today, so I'm not sure I can make it down for brunch today even though I sort of suggested it. ;)
-
Hmm... Guess I should find my cellphone... ???
-
What time?
-
So...
DR edisaurus, DerBrucer and SWW are currently waiting outside The Brooklyn Diner, and DR Ginny is on her way over.
Meanwhile...
DR vixmom and the vixter will be coming into Manhattan shortly to meet up with DR William Orr and his ever-lovin' Joe at a place to be determined.
So...
Maybe I'll just meet up with everyone before they go into Such Good Friends. -With Levain Cookies in hand, of course. -The Enabler never takes a day off. ;D
-
Obviously, I don't think I'm going to make it to the 1:00 Mary Poppins performance today, so...
-
I will not be attending Such Good Friends this afternoon, but I may go ahead and try to get into the last Brain performance tonight.
-
Still waking up... Still waking up... Still waking up...
We were surrounded by parties last night. There was one with some pretty loud music on the other side of our backyard, and out front, there was an impromptu gathering and cookout across the street on the sidewalk. -I kept smelling lighter fluid every now and then - and I could see the flicker of the flame-ups too.
The people behind us did turn off their music around 2:30, however, the gathering across the street didn't really stop until around 4:30. They were loud, but at least they were happy - even when the police came by... Three times! And some of those "guests" went ahead and gathered - loitered - on our side of the street in front of our apartment until around 5:00.
And that's why I'm still waking up.
-
Cilland Samantha, love the photos of you with Laura Bell and with that handsome rascal DR Jose!
-
DR Cillaliz - As for the "other photos", well... I think I was just asking Sam to see if I had any spinach caught in my teeth, that's all it was. ;D
-
Well, I think I'm gonna get ready to head out, well, at least wake up a bit more before I head out.
Laters...
-
Good morning! Just sittin ghere, sucking caffeine and catching up - Cilla Liz, what lovely photos. Thanks for posting them.

Ah-ha! It is PennyO's fault that we have had so much rain this last week. Actually, I don't care about the rain. I love Autumn. There is nothing better on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon than to curl up with a good book, while the cats snuggle with me.
-
I have just hit the jackpot with good Bollywoods this weekend...last night I started a wonderful film titled SHAHEED UDDHAM SINGH, a Punjabi film about the titled Indian revolutionary who was executed by the British in 1940.
I am learning more and more about atrocities that the British inflicted on India during the time they controlled that country, in the case of this film the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh Massacre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jallianwalla_Bagh_Massacre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jallianwalla_Bagh_Massacre)
Oh, and the musical numbers are very good!

Michael Barnum, you have been getting some great one-liners in during the last few days. I am proud of you.

-
Thanks for your photos, DR Cillaliz!
I'll be getting into Grand Central around 3:00 PM EST, but am not going to any matinees today. Sounds like most of the other DRs in town will be otherwise engaged until supper time.
-
DR JoseSPiano - not that you would need one, but I think I have an extra ticket for tonight.
-
Dakota:
He is now in hospice and still working anywhere from 20 to 35 hours a week. He is being 'tapped' daily but seems to be good mentally. Rather amazing!
He is amazing.
Do mean hospice is going to his home or he is living at a hospice house?
-
Last night, I went to see a local production of Agatha Christie's THE HOLLOW. Now, although I admire Agatha Christie, the woman; I have never been a great fan of her mysteries. As for the plays, I have always said that it was better to be IN a production of a Christie play, than have to sit through one.
I have never seen a production of THE HOLLOW, nor have I read it; but this play must have one of the longest and worst second acts, that I have ever seen.
I am good friends with the director, and I know most of the cast of extremely talented actors, but this second was just deadly - and I don't mean it in a good way. I have seen gruel that had more action than the second act of this show. The best thing I can say about this play is that I don't have to see it again.
-
DR JoseSPiano - not that you would need one, but I think I have an extra ticket for tonight.
Cool! Well, I guess that takes care of that! I will be attending the final Brain tonight. Thanks, DR singdaw!
-
DR Noel, CONGRATULATIONS on yesterday’s show, may they all be as wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your day.
-
So... I think the best - because it's mine ;) - plan for this afternoon would be to meet at 3:30 in the plaza at Worldwide Plaza, which is between 8th and 9th Avenues, between 49th and 50th. -It's the "outdoor lobby" for New World Stages. There's lots of outdoor seating, plenty of room for gathering. *And it's just three blocks away from where Such Good Friends is playing.
I'll make the requisite phone calls. Be there, or be without Levain Cookies. ;)
-
Penny I remember the day we drove to the Getty Gardens, boy did we both need it that day.
ANGELA :o How nice to see you. :)
-
Penny & François, from what I’ve read, it seems Audrey had every reason not to be happy about the dubbing in MY FAIR LADY. She was told she would be doing the singing and worked very hard to prepare for the role. I don’t blame them for dubbing her, but it wasn’t right to lie to her.
Jennifer, (Penny too) are you sleeping with your pillows elevated? It should help with the sinuses. When my ears hurt like that I make oatmeal and stand over the steaming pot while it cooks, letting the steam go into one ear and then the other. It sounds funny but it helps & the oatmeal is soothing to eat.
-
Cilla, Sam and Jose, great photos!
-
GREAT, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC SHOW VIBES FOR THE FINAL NIGHT OF THE BRAIN!
-
OK... Phone calls have been made...
Whew!
-
Now I'm going....
Laters...
-
Well, the rehearsal at 10 went really really well; Paul Gemignani was in a good mood - I think he's happy with the piece - and had a good time with the Orchestra of St Luke's. The dress is tomorrow afternoon at the Plaza, and the performance tomorrow night; I expect a huge crowd.
After that, I had a good time at Toyland, trying to decipher why our faxmachine was down and trying to identify songs in two medleys performed by Montgomery and Stone around 1912. I am home now, in need of a nap before I decide if I will write cards to the cast tonight and possibly take in gifts. While I was out William Orr left me a message and so I need to return his call before I crash.
-
DR elmore :D, Great news on the Plaza! Wishing you great success tomorrow night.
-
Jose, have an oatmeal raisin cookie for me.
-
DR elmore :D, Great news on the Plaza! Wishing you great success tomorrow night.
Thanks, dear Nursie! Right now I need some energy: I've very sleepy and I need to thnk about notes for the cast and some of the crew for tonight. But maybe a nap first?
-
Might I just ask where in tarnation IS everyone? Oh, yeah, they're either here in NY at brunch, mad at me, or off taking a break from the site. Oh, well, ever onward.
Just back from a lovelier than lovely brunch with the usual suspects and the addition of der Brucer and his ever-lovin' S. Woody.
-
Still have to pack, inscribe a few more books then relax before the show tonight.
-
I'm thinking of taking a break from the site, now that everyone here who's gonna buy NYMF tickets for my show has bought them.
I'll be back in an hour. I figure that should be enough of a break.
:)
To clarify, I'm only kidding!
-
Bruce: Earlier this evening you posted:My post spoke for me. You may, of course, consider it any way you choose.
I've considered it in the exact way you meant it :) And I'm jiggy with it.
-
Very exciting news at Film Score Monthy - I've know this was coming for over a year, but it's finally here - the first ever CD release of two of my favorite 60s scores on one CD - Johnny Keating's fantastic score to Hotel, and Stanley Myers' equally fantastic score to Kaleidoscope.
-
Will we neve get to page five?
-
We have tickets for Such good Friends today, but something came up. But I'm happy to have contributed to the gross, since I know Noel told us about the cash flow issues.

I'm tired.
-
I've packed everything I can pack until after I've shaved and showered.
-
Noel should have a very healthy and enthusiastic crowd today, I'm hoping. Everyone I brunced with save for a couple of folks will be seeing his matinee.
-
I'm tired.
-
Must finished inscribing books.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page five.

TCB - The smilie was menat to indicate that i was kidding.
-
I see in the news today that Miss Lois Maxwell has died. Of course many know her as Miss Moneypenny from the James Bond films, others may remember her as the voice of Atlanta on the kiddie show STINGRAY.

Thanks again DR Arnold - I enjoy the song of the day selections - I smile at the "connection" and then ponder the versions I know.
-
TCB - The smilie was menat to indicate that i was kidding.
I laughed - I hope I was "menat" too. :)
-
Mike Barnum's location reference to the Diner yesterday got a good laugh from DP Colin and myself.
-
Noel's show has begun, I've shaved and will soon shower, and then it's just relaxing until about six-forty-five, at which time I shall be on my way to the Acorn.

I enjoyed her in both those roles (I've got the complete set of Stingray on DVD), but she also was a memorable character in an episode of The Avengers, with Cathy Gale. Takes a machine gun and dispatches quite a few crooks....dressed as priests.
-
I'm tired but gettin my 2.5 wind.
-
Will we never get to page six?
-
TCB - The smilie was menat to indicate that i was kidding.
OHHHHHHHH! ;)

Lovely photos Cilla...

The picture of Sam and Jose is adoreable....

I am at work...
Jrand, when will the stars be aligned again? For literary pursuits that is..

Cilla... BEautiful picture of Strawberry fields.

Vibes to the Brain, Last Starfighter and Such Good Friends...
I may just have to get a copy of Last STarfighter. I am very curious...

Dakota:He is amazing.
Do mean hospice is going to his home or he is living at a hospice house?
Right now they come to my parent's house once a week to provide supplies for removing the fluid and any other needs he has. I am sure it will become more frequent when the time comes.
-
I send vibes to one and all!!

I do not recall this show at all...
-
Meaning Stingray, sorry...
-
We're STILL on page five? This will NOT do.
-
I need to wander off and get a few things done here at my desk. I hope to wander back a bit later. Take care everyone!
-
WEHT Jane? WEHT George? WEHT all other hainsies/kimlets not on the East Coast?
-
My help is a bit limited at the moment good sir.... :)
I do promise to wander back a bit later
Much success the Brain on their final performance this evening!
-
I am at work politely asking students to take carts of books up and placing materials on reserve, etc. :)
-
I am at the circ desk being charming to grumpy students...
-
Ah, the prodigal Jane comes home.
-
Almost time to shower.
-
I have to lug a big ol' box o' signed books to the theater - wondering if I should just cab it, or whether I want the exercise again. It's basically a nine block walk.
-
Yes I'm home. We went for a walk in town & to do some errands. We purchased some "clear" caulk to use on the kitchen sink. When we began to use it we discovered it is white, not clear.
-
The leaves are turning colors faster than usual, guess it is due to the unusually chilly weather. It is 48 degrees out and wet.
-
I see in the news today that Miss Lois Maxwell has died. Of course many know her as Miss Moneypenny from the James Bond films, others may remember her as the voice of Atlanta on the kiddie show STINGRAY.
Nor should we forget her contribution to Robert Wise's film of Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING.
-
Ms Maxwell resided in Perth Western Australia.
-
This time last year DP Colin and I were in Toronto visiting with DiT.
-
I was just sent a list of foods dogs shouldn't eat:
Alcohol: It depresses brain function & can cause a coma. So no pina
coladas for Fido--not for fun & not by accident with party leftovers.
Coffee: The caffeine in a cup of java is a methylxanthine compound that can
increase a dog's heart rate & trigger seizures.
Chocolate: The chemical theobromine can be fatal. Just three oz of dark or
seven oz of milk chocolate can bring on vomiting in a 50# dog.
Macadamia nuts: Experts have yet to determine why just a few of these nuts
can produce tremors, even temporary paralysis, in a dog's hind legs.
Garlic: Garlic breaks down a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia &
possible kidney failure from leaking hemoglobin.
Onions: Their damage to canine hemoglobin is cumulative, so small tastes
over time can be worse than wolfing down the whole bulb.
Grapes: Toxicologists have found that grapes & raisins can cause renal
failure. They're still trying to learn why.
After reading the list I just had to have a chocolate toffee covered Macadamia nut mixed with some raisins. I was already sipping sherry. I think I will have some coffee ice cream now. All thanks to the power of suggestion, and the fact I can't have a Levain's oatmeal raisin cookie.
-
And we were on our way home with our sweet little boy.
-
Yes I'm home. We went for a walk in town & to do some errands. We purchased some "clear" caulk to use on the kitchen sink. When we began to use it we discovered it is white, not clear.
Perhaps it's white when you put it on, but dries clear?
-
We tested it on some paper. It is still white.
-
Well, I've found myself back here at the apartment for some quiet time. After brunch, Richard and I swung by here for our NYMF paperwork and then went to Jose's Levain cookie party over at Worldwide Plaza. Richard went back to church for an evensong, I went to El Centro to watch DRs Jose, Cillaliz, Samantha, and Singdaw eat lunch, and then they all came to admire our apartment. Cilla and Sam left to get ready for the Brain, Jose and Singdaw went to Columbus Circle, and I'm waiting for Doug and Jon to pick me up and meet Richard and the others at the Acorn.
Maybe I'll take a little nap.
-
This time next year we hope to be in rural France.
-
With all the NYC activity - colour (color) me envious.
-
Didn't you go to rural France a few years ago?
-
We are back at our hotel getting ready. We took Jose's advice and took a cab back. I'm glad we did. It was a lot farther than I was thinking it was.
-
Good call, Cilla. I'll bet Sam's feet appreciate it!
-
Good call, Cilla. I'll bet Sam's feet appreciate it!
DR Ginny, I read this to Sam (who is singing and putting on her make up) and she said "She is so cute" (I was told to tell you that) ;)
-
Aww, I've been called a lot of things, but haven't been "cute" in a long, long time. Thanks, Sam!
-
Yes I'm home. We went for a walk in town & to do some errands. We purchased some "clear" caulk to use on the kitchen sink. When we began to use it we discovered it is white, not clear.
Most of the clear kind goes on white so that you can see where you're putting it--it becomes clear as it cures.
-
TODAY'S SPOILERS:
SUPERMAN IS CLARK KENT.
BATMAN IS BRUCE WAYNE.
LARRY CRAIG IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN NOT GAY.
-
Time for me to get ready....see some of you soon
-
Spoo.

Thanks JMK, we were wondering. So how long does it take before it turns clear? ???
-
Thanks JMK, we were wondering. So how long does it take before it turns clear? ???
If it says "clear," it should be clear, but it will go on white. Believe me, with our remodeling, I know from caulk. :) Curing can take up to several hours. Try a little where you can scrape it off later and leave it for the rest of the day--I'll betcha it'll be clear by tonight.
-
Knowing from caulk department: I asked one of our not-so-bright workers one day if he had some caulk. He looked at me aghast--I don't think I pronounced the "l" very well. ;)
-
Time to get ready, myself.
Bye for now!
-
LOL Jeff-It took me a few seconds to get it.
Have fun Ginny, and you are cute.
-
Didn't you go to rural France a few years ago?
Yes DR Jane. There is so much to see and the French people made us very welcome. We also have friends in nothern France. Our last few days will be spent in Paris (as they were last time) in the company of DR François.
We like to plan ahead. 2010 may be back for an extended tour of the UK.
-
DR JMK - I was thinking more along the lines of "the priest jumps out the window," or "the great white gets the big bang." Even, "rosebud is burning." ;)

Speaking of Larry Craig:
MINNEAPOLIS —
The infamous airport men's room where Sen. Larry Craig was arrested is getting new stall dividers that drop nearly to the floor to make it a less inviting spot for sexual liaisons.
Web sites had touted that restroom as a popular site for sex with strangers, and police reports over the summer described several cases of men ducking their heads under the dividers into adjoining stalls, allegedly in search of sex.
On June 11, an undercover police officer was the men's room when Craig allegedly tapped his feet and swiped his hand under the divider in a way authorities said was a signal for someone wanted sex.
Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, but when the incident became public, he denied ever seeking sex there and said the officer misunderstood his actions. Craig is now seeking to withdraw his guilty plea to the misdemeanor.
The Minneapolis airport has more than 80 restrooms, but only two are being targeted for the new dividers, including the one now known for Craig's arrest.
"These two have been the most problematic in terms of complaints from people and indications on Web sites that sexual activities are occurring in them," said airport spokesman Patrick Hogan. He said the dividers would be installed within the next two months.
Both restrooms, in the busy Northstar Crossing shopping area, had a reputation on some Web sites as good places for bathroom liaisons. Hogan said airport officials had been checking the Web sites and found the activity had dropped off since Craig's arrest.
One person arrested over the summer told police he had four sexual encounters in three hours, and it was only on his fifth approach that someone objected, Hogan said.
The new stall dividers will fall to just 2 to 3 inches above the floor, instead of leaving as much as a foot of open space as they do now. The airport expects to spend $25,000; installing them in every restroom there would cost about $1 million, Hogan said.
"It is unfortunate to look at having to spend $1 million on something that wouldn't be necessary if people simply behaved themselves," he said.

Tomovoz I think it is great you can plan so far in advance. Except for special events planning ahead has never worked for us. I never really believe a planned trip is happening until I'm on the move. I always expect something to intervene.

I always found it a bit funny for Fred to be referring to Audrey as Funny Face.
-
JMK was Betsy traveling for work or pleasure?
I'll let you decide ;D: her parents sold their home of 40 years, and she went back there (Milwaukee) to help them pack stuff up.
-
Now they are moving out here, which partially explains my propensity for a fetal position on the floor. ;)
-
I am writing a report for my Astronomy class on the movie "In the Shadow of the Moon" and I must take a break to say how much I love the movie, but HATED the pre-show!!!!!!
I had not been to see a movie in a theater that shows commercials for quite a while, so what I saw when I arrived absolutely shocked and sickened me. Instead of the slideshow of movie trivia and advertisements that silently repeat in a loop paired with the bad radio station music, I was forced to sit and watch tv commercials for 15 mins.
The " First Look Movie Watchers Network" which claims to be a behind the scenes review of the latest and greatest is really just commercials for E-bay, tv shows, video games, phone companies, fast food, and of course, Coca Cola.
I do not go to the movies to watch tv. I now refuse to go to AMC movie theaters. If I want to watch commercials, I will stay home and save myself $11.

I always found it a bit funny for Fred to be referring to Audrey as Funny Face.
Denny Dillon and Bruce McGill sang it in Tommy Tune's MY ONE AND ONLY to humorous effect.

Have any Dear Readers seen EASTERN PROMISES?
I may see it tonight after DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. . . .

Seven-thirty on the East Coast. . .time for an episode of UGLY BETTY. ;D

If only it weren't true.

Sherlock was ringing his bell to go out. I went, opened the door & watched him stare at me. He just wanted attention. ;D It's a good thing he is so cute or this trick of his would be annoying. Actually I was glad he didn't want out. It is cold, wet and windy out there.

A freind of mine is taping the next season of McLeods daughters when it broadcasts on WE network.

There is a blue cross/blue shield ad running this area where they encourage people to get out and exercise. There is a woman walking a Bernese Mountain dog and I always think of Sherlock!!

I watched 3 new shows from last week (finally).
Here are a few of my thoughts on CHUCK, DIRTY SEXY MONEY and BIONIC WOMAN.
There's not really any huge spoilers below. BUt don't read if you don't want to know.
*
*
*
1. CHUCK
I wasn't really going to watch this show. But a few people here commented on how good it was. So when NBC replayed it on Saturday i decided to record it.
I actually really liked it. I liked the lead actor. I liked the female lead. I thought the premise was new and funny (guy gets sent top secret CIA information and now has it in his brain).
The show was easy to follow, funny, and enjoyable. Sometimes it can take me a while to warm up to new shows. But i thought this one was really fun,.
*
*
*
2, DIRTY SEXY MONEY
I liked this a lot more than i thought i would. The lead guy is really great. ANd in these types of shows that can make all the difference.
The story is this kid (peter krause) who was raised by his dad. His dad was a lawyer for a very rich eccentric family (headed by donald sutherland). The kid grows up and his dad is killed in a plane crash (first scene i think). ANd the story is about the guy replacing his dad.
The children in the rich family are all wacky. but i found myself very entertained. I had heard/read that the pilot was very good. And it was. I don't know if the show will continue to be good. but i quite liked it!
*
*
*
3. BIONIC WOMAN
I haven't decided if i like this one or not yet. The leading character Jaime (sp?) is sort of likeable. BUt i'm not sure she's strong enough to be the lead in a show like this.
It wasn't that the show was difficult to follow. But it just wasn't all that interesting.
Although she hasn't gotten started on any work (this was just the lead up to her accident and operation). So i'm guessing the next episodes will be different. I will probably try it one more time and see. But it was just okay for me.
-

DR Jane re: sleeping with my head elevated. Well i had been doing that for days. But it's not that comfortable! I really have not been sleeping well, tossing and turning every 15 minutes.
Now i just need to get rid of this feeling of fatigue. I took dimetapp cough cold at 5:30pm on saturday. ANd it still has not worn off! My body really gets overly drowsy and fatigued from almost any type of medicine!
-
I'm not sure if anyone here is a golf fan. I"m not really a huge fan. But the President's Cup and Tiger Woods have been here all week.
The sort of interesting part is that 2 blocks away they've basically turned a huge field (beside the bike path) into a few miles long parking lot. It is just the absolute weirdest thing. They have police and cars parked for miles on the grass. It's sort of a pain. I wonder whoever thought of this odd idea.
Anyhow today Tiger woods played one on one with my favorite golfer (The best Canadian golfer Mike Weir). I only watched bits but apparently it was quite a match.
My brother-in-law is quite a golf fan. And I guess my niece (who just turned 2 last week) has picked up on it. Because when someone on the tv said "tiger ..." she said "tiger woods!" :)
-
Jennifer do you have a humidifier? It might help, along with loads of fluids, to keep everything loose so you don't need dimetapp. I know sleeping elevated is uncomfortable-try different pillows or something. It just really keeps all that stuff from settling where it shouldn't.
-
When we lived in Michigan the US Open tournament wasn't far from us. People around the course were moving out of their homes and renting them for incredible amounts of money. Craig went with some friends and returned talking about this amazing new golfer, Tiger Woods.
-
He is an amazing player and he has been pretty well at the top of his game for nearly a decade.
-
Trying a warm bath and putting a moist towel to the face might also help..
-
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - a howling good start to the new season.
-
DR Adriana Patti, you made me feel better about refusing to go see a movie in a theater: $11 and commercials?
-
I'd watch BROTHERS & SISTERS, but I still have an ALLY MCBEAL-induced aversion to Calista Flockhart.
-
Today DR Sandra and I met DR Kerry and one of his friends at Arizona State University and saw a nice student production of "She Loves Me." Afterward, we walked to Mill Avenue for dinner, where DR Kerry told us amusing stories about his neighbors.
-
I've been thinking about EASTERN PROMISES on the big screen, but, yes, those commercials are bothersome. . .on the other hand, the theater I favor is clean, has fresh popped popcorn, stadium seating, comfortable seating, great sound and big screens. . .so, I might just toddle off to the ten-fifty show.
-
DR DearReaderLaura - did you take any photos on your walk? I always look forward to seeing the world through your lens.
-
How's this for the Page Nine Dance?
-
No, I didn't take a camera along this time. They don't take kindly to having a camera in a theater, you know.
-
But thank you for your comment. Maybe tomorrow.
-
For some odd reason I have "IN AMERICA" from WEST SIDE STORY stuck in my head
-
I hope the New Yorkers are out having a blast celebrating.
Bruce, & anyone else who needs them, SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES tomorrow.
'night.

I hope so too...

Yes, but BeeGee doesn't use his nose, like Sherlock does. BeeGee literally "stands up" (on his hind legs) and uses his front paw to press the doorbell button. All the while giving us the "are you crazy leaving me out here in the fresh air?" plaintive look. :)

Good night Jeanne, pleasant dreams!

Not much has happened in my absence of four hours. Is everyone at a theatre somewhere?
-
I just saw EASTERN PROMISES, and I consider it the best mafia film I've seen since THE GODFATHER.
It's actually the Russian mafia in London, not the cosa nostra of Puzo's world.
Three top-lining, award worthy performances from Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen and Armin Mueller-Stahl and a thoroughly engrossing, and violent, plot.
-
Back from our final NYMF performance and pizza at John's Pizza with a large number of hainsies/kimlets. I leave comments to others, but for me the show was sloppy and even though I prayed we would go out without techinical snafu, the very first light cue proved me wrong - BJ came on, his background projection came on the screen and then a dark blue fill light came up but not his white front light. He sat there in darkness for his entire opening, so instead of getting the big laughs it played to a confused audience until the next cue came up and some light actually filled the stage. I don't know what made me angrier - the fact that there was clearly a light out, or the fact that my stage manager didn't do something about it like raise a bloody dimmer so SOME sort of light was on (there are emergency dimmers right next to her). Then we were okay until the General's first scene, which also basically played in semi-light thanks to the light that was out. The audience was great but the show, for me at least, just wasn't sharp enough for my taste. A couple of actors did unforgivable things like changing stuff that always works and making it completely unfunny in the bargain. I'm just bafffled by stuff like that. If it's not broken, please don't fix it for me. There were missed entrances, a few flubbed lines, but the audience was great and just kept giving nice reaction. If everything had been sharp, it would have been one of our best performances. Dear reader Ginny's husband went up for The Brain Tap and he was great. In fact, with a couple of exceptions, act two played lots better than act one. I must now write some notes and then try to get three hours of sleep before being on my way to the airport.
-
I am hoping there is a way to copy files from my c drive to my backup drive before I have the beast reformatted...
I have some files I really want to save and others that can be lost. I really want to save the genealogy data.
-
I wish I could remember some of the commands for copying from terminal
-
Friday's performance seemed much sharper to me than today's but there were, as BK wrote, several glitches: the lights and a sound problem with the radio music "to eat steaks by." It all got off to a poor start but I do feel the audience clearly wanted to love it and had a good time. My NYPL friend Bob Kosovsky wanted to know how less melodious and funny shows are running to critical acclaim and how no producers - to my knowledge anyway - are banging on doors and lining up with contracts to produce this.
After the show, the party broke into two factions: the cast and some audience went to Shorty's on 9th Avenue and 41st but the place in the long run was too noisy and crowded, and I managed to spill a margarita all over the place and ended up with very sticky hands and clothing. The other faction went to John's for pizza. I wish we'd all planned on going to one location because I feel I hardly saw a lot of people I wanted to spend more time visiting. After the margarita mess - I had gone to Shorty's because I had promised Erin Webley a margarita after her LSATs yesterday - it was easier to say goodbye and head uptown.
-
I will need to head out shortly and since I do not have an operational computer at home, I bid goodbye until tomorrow. Take care everyone!
-
I forsee both Elmore and I reaching 10,000 posts this upcoming week!
-
I reach a new plateau of some sort in just 8 posts.
-
Jose, have an oatmeal raisin cookie for me.
Jane, I just had one for you!
My DH and I are back at our hotel and having a treat in bed.
No...not what you think. We're eating Levain cookies in bed. Oatmeal for me, chocolate peanut butter for Greg.
DR Jose is not only an enabler, he is a perfect host. This weekend would not have been half as fun if he hadn't been there coordinating get-togethers and joining us. You should have seen him taking command of John's Pizzaria tonight. He knew exactly how much food and drink 20 people needed, and even convinced the restaurant to stay open a little later to accomodate us.
He is masterful!

MYRA BRECKENRIDGE's director, Michael Sarne appears onscreen in EASTERN PROMISES.
Poet and novelist Jerzy Skolimowski also appears.

I would like to fall victim to THE ENABLER.

Howard Shore contributes quite a memorable score for EASTERN PROMISES.

DR Edi - If you get to see EASTERN PROMISES, you simply must discuss the editing of the film's set-piece with me.

I worked with Stanley Myers on my first film job out of college. (I hadn't graduated yet, actually...) He was really nice. He was rather inebriated during the mix (not so much during the scoring session) and his son came along as his handler. It didn't seem to impact his ability to write a beautiful score of SUMMER OF MY GERMAN SOLDIER.

Oh my! I have no dance prepared for the new page. . . :'(

I see in the news today that Miss Lois Maxwell has died. Of course many know her as Miss Moneypenny from the James Bond films, others may remember her as the voice of Atlanta
And here I thought *I* was the voice of Atlanta!

Where oh where has DR coleslaw been all day and night?
-
Time to retire. For the night, not from employment. . .as I reach another 00'd post.

DR Cillaliz, me too! I thought we all - cast and guests - were going to the same location. I will see more of Ginny and Richard this week, but I don't know if Joe and Bill Orr are still here, and I hardly saw Der Brucer and SWW!
Here's the info on the Plaza event tomorrow night. I see it begins at 7:00 pm.

Sam and I are back at the hotel and are about to begin packing. She is talking to her parents on the phone and I am here checking in.
We both had a great time at THE BRAIN tonight. Having not seen the show before, we didn't notice any changes or mistakes. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We laughed and laughed.

Time for me to take a quick shower and then get things packed so we're ready to go in the morning.
Had a great time..

Where oh where has DR coleslaw been all day and night?
He came into NY @ 3 and met us at Jose's Levain get-together. Then he went off with the HHWers who weren't going to see Noel's show, and then to THE BRAIN. He slipped out of the theatre before I got to say goodbye to him. :'( (He and Ben both had early days and didn't go out to play.)

A funny thing happened on the wat to John's Pizzaria.
When Greg was tapped for THE BRAIN tap Friday, when Zubrick asked his name, Greg said "Oh crap. You want my name?" This becamse his name for the whole scene.
Tonight, when we were a block away from John's a lady waiting on the corner looked over at Greg and said "It's oh crap, you want my name". I guess he should start applying for his Equity card!
Speaking of Equity, I never got to meet Jason!

We're very beat (Daddy-O) and are going to hit the hay.
Safe driving home vibes to Der B and Woody. It was great meeting them.
Safe flight to the Murphys, BJ, Cilla and Sam.
And safe travel to bk, who made this wonderful weekend possible! We had a blast!
