And, yes, it was a great audience tonight, and a very good show.  And even though I did notice some technical issues, I think the show still played well.

I caught up with some people before the show, during intermission and afterwards... There was quite the varied crowd there tonight including one of the former casting directors for A Chorus Line - she was cackling (her word) each time the "salute" was made - and there were a couple members of the current cast of A Chorus Line there tonight as well.  -And Xanadu cast member, Andre Ward.

-Now I just want to know what that kid was who was sitting in the front row and kept running in and out the theatre every ten to fifteen minutes.  And why?  ???

;)

*And I truly had a wonderful time dinning, supping and spending time with you during your whole Brain process.  -And, hopefully, the next time you're in NYC, you'll be able to meet Baayork.  ;)

DR Jane - I believe a couple of people had a Levain oatmeal raisin cookie for you.  In fact, I believe today's selection was broken down as follows: 6 Chocolate Chip Walnut, 6 Oatmeal Raisin, 4 Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and 4 Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip.  *And the clerk at Levain even gave me a couple of cookies today for free too!  -I was also wearing my Australian Rugby World Cup rugger today, and it turned that she's originally from Melbourne!  -And she was impressed that I actually pronounced "Melbourne" properly too.  (Thank you, DR Tomovoz and Colin.)

I burst out laughing and gave up for awhile.  We have had a wonderful time, but she likes to stay up very late and I like to get up early.   It will be nice to get back on my regular sleep schedule again, which I shall do tomorrow night.

Our first official LAST STARFIGHTER review is in, and it's a rather mediocre review from Matthew Murray on Talkin' Broadway.  Matthew Murray says:

"The Last Starfighter remains the theatrical equivalent of Ms. Pac-Man: action, cut sequences, a great deal of fun, and dissolving into utter meaninglessness the instant you step outside. Such things are fine for an arcade game, where you never have to sacrifice more than a quarter. But with higher prices, higher stakes, and higher expectations in the theatre, it’s much more serious that this open-hearted show, despite all it wants to do and all it does right, never blasts off."

Clearly, Matthew Murray has voluntarily opened the door to our quoting this as:

"A GREAT DEAL OF FUN." - Matthew Murray, Talkin' Broadway

I just wonder why, if he actually had "a great deal of fun," he doesn't recommend the show.  Isn't there a place for an experience where you have a great deal of fun in the theater for two hours and then just leave it behind when you step outside.  We hope our show is more than that, but why wouldn't it be enough for a show to be a great deal of fun while it's going on but then not lasting afterwards?

After that I went to our first music rehearsal for Night of the Living Dead! The Musical! (Tickets are available! (http://www.buyolympia.com/events/?details=313)[/b])  It was...interesting.  We weren't given sheet music yet because it takes so long to print it out and our music director didn't have time.  The music director (who wrote the score) had to teach us the first big-ish song and the two reprises by rote.  Most of the performers in the show can't read music ::) so that was the frustrating part about the rehearsal.  Once I get the sheet music, I'll be okay.  Hopefully, we'll get it soon.

Well, we managed to survive the first leg of our trip - that is, the taxi ride to JFK and security...
My DM and I decided to just head over here (as we had to be out of our sublet by midnight...long story) and we've spent the past few hours down in the meat locker...I mean, main terminal.  However, we managed to sweat 'em out and now we are here in the food court of the JetBlue terminal.

BK and BJ, however, are a different story.

I had a wonderful time last night. I do wish I was able to spend more time with the gang but the time I did spend was (as Spencer Tracy once said) "cherce"

The show was great fun and DH Richard (Palmer) got to make his NYMF New York Theatre debut as the Brain Tap Victim. The Brain Tap number was a hoot. It's good to see  great tap dancing so close up.

Travel vibes to everyone leaving our fair city. I finally got to meet Dear Mother Karen, though her son was pretty busy being congratulated on his stellar performance as Zubrick so I was not able to officialy meet our "star in the New York firmament"

I worked on Saturday, came home and defrosted the freezer, had dinner and went to bed. Sunday we got up and went grocery shopping (funny how you can't eat if there isn't any food in the house). We go to two different stores because Trader Joe's doesn't have everything we want/need. So after going to TJ's we put the groceries away and then toddled off to Western Been for the remainder of our shopping. We came home, had veggie burgers and salad for lunch and then I laid down and slept for two hours.

I left early for my Brain experience because I was going to stop at the main post office which is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I wanted to mail out some CDs to certain Left Coast friends. Unfortunately, the line at the post office was larger than I've ever seen it, at least an hour (I'm not kidding) so I continued walking uptown and got to the theatre very early. I picked up my ticket and then walked around the neighborhood. I passed The Little Pie Shop and saw a friend (not Jose, not MusicGuy and not Singdaw) buying some goodies so I stopped in and we had a little catch up. She then walked me over to the theatre where I met the denizens. And a good time was had by all.

That, dear readers is the Reader's Digest version of my weekend.

And now, Mr. Bremer is calling my name.

Good Morning!!  What a great weekend!   Poor Vixter hasd to get up at 6;30 AM for school and due to constuction work being performed on the LIE (Long Island Expressway)  it took us 1 1/2 hours to get home... a mere 40 mile drive... the really annoyingthingis that there was no trafic to speak of gettingout NYC and I made it to within 7 miles of home in about 30 minutes... the last 7 miles is what took an hour,  had they posted signs about the closure a few exits earlier we would have had the option of taking a different route

The rest of the weekend was wonderful

Saturday we drove in with WFO and Joe and saw The Last Starfighter,

The show is wonderful, sweet, funny and the actors/characters are "real".   There are so may shows when you notice the acting, "My, what good acting"  you think... these people seemed like  "real folks" just telling you a story, the costuming, makeup and hair all supported thatidea,  these were people you might meet in the supermarket or laundromat and sit and have a coffee and share a chat with.

The story itself is sweet and fun and the songs (as most of you already know) are wonderful.  I hope that Starfighter reaches the audience it deserves and no one is put off by the lukewarm review of that fella who just didn't "get" it...

BK met us at the theatre and afterwards we all met up with Ginny,  Richard, Cilla and her very lovely niece Sam,  and shared a meal at the Westside Cottage where many delicous chinese dishes, including the famous cold sesame noodles were consumed

Guest  apprearances were made by Ms. Karen and that star of two coasts, Mr.Cason Murphy...

Afterwards we went across the street to Amy's Bread where we discovered *gasp* that there was no more Monkey Cake... all sold out!

We, of course, blamed Jose.

It continues cool in the mornings here (51 this morning) and highs supposed to be only the low 80s, so very tolerable and quite nice. The five day forecast promises more of the same.

Sad to say, no rain at all in 18 days, and we're in such severe drought conditions now that all watering has been banned.

I must take a minute to sincerely thank all of the wonderful HHWs who took the time to send me private messages, e-mails, and made telephone calls during my time of distress last week. Clearly, this is a family of friends who are warm, loving, and embracing of those who are troubled. I knew that before, but when it happens to one personally, it becomes ever so much clearer, and I did want everyone to know how touched and appreciative I was (and am).

I also want to deeply apologize for not being able to address every single one of the e-mails I received. It became a little emotionally overwhelming for me after a time, and I had to back away and collect myself. I know that's a lame excuse, but there it is for what it's worth.

I missed the daily camaraderie so very much and am happy to be back among so many lovely, loyal friends.

Again, thank you.

DR Arnold,

I finally got around to MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS yesterday afternoon! After I finished my chores watching the second season box set of CRIMINAL MINDS, I found I had almost three hours left in the afternoon, so I quickly put it into the player.

I've always loved the film and itsperformances. I thought the DVD looked lovely. Very clear transfer. Not the sharpest I've ever seen, but certainly the best we're likely ever to get of the movie.

I noticed bk's friend Nick Redman is on the isolated score track, but I didn't have time to check that out.

I'll be sticking with NBC for tonight's prime time shows: CHUCK, HEROES, JOURNEYMAN. The first two I enjoyed just about as much as anything I watched last week. Hey, DR MattH! When I first got cable in Manhattan, there was a station that played MALA NOCHE every year during June.  The film was so peculiar that I never knew if it had been edited for the broadcast or was deliberately a stream-of-consciousness effect.  My memory as well is that it was a very dark print.  I'll be curious about your thoughts.

Thanks for all the travel vibes. We should be heading out around 5:30.

It was great to finally meet Ginny. Her DH Richard was a delight and I think they are finally able to decompress after all their family has been through the last few weeks. Ginny was sitting behind me when her DH was "tapped" and she laughed so much that it was making me laugh even more. Richard was awesome---the perfect victim!

Peter Miller, my filmmaking partner, brought his whole family, and since they were sitting in front of me I could see how much they were enjoying it. His 10 and 12 year old girls were laughing their heads off. I don't know what they thought about the gold lame bathing suit boys but I certainly enjoyed them, especally the one on the left. Hubba!!!

Peter also enjoyed meeting some of our gang and being able to thank them for supporting our films. He is amazed at how such a close community can form over such a seemingly impersonal venue as the internet. You could just feel the love in the room!

The cover art looks very dark, too, but Criterion may have worked some magic on the print they've used for the transfer. And from the notes enclosed, Vaan Sant worked with them on bringing this to DVD, so whatever it is, it has his sanction.

We had breakfast with our dear friend John early this morning. He's the editor for Merchant-Ivory and has cut their last 3 or 4 films. He and James Ivory will be coming down to Atlanta in a few weeks and we will get to use our guest room for the first time. (for John, not James!)

John and I worked on a film together and lived at The Wellington for several months, 20 years ago, so it was fun to have breakfast at the Wellington cafe, just like old times.

John holds a special place in our hearts because Greg and I met working on one of his films, a short called WRITER'S BLOCK, which used to air on the Z Channel 20 some years ago. Maybe bk remembers it?

Who would have thought back then that we all would have ended up where we are now? We have all been very blessed to be able to do what we love for a living.

My intentions were to get to John's, but after the spilled margarita, all I wanted to do was get home and out of the sticky mess.  I suspect though, that if i'd got to John's they might have turned me away since they clearly were heading for closing time by the time the first inlux had arrived.

In retrospect, I wish that I or someone else had thought to plan on reserving a big space for all the guests as well as the cast and crew.

Now, for today, the rehearsal is at 4:30 at the Plaza, but I have no idea when the fireworks piece will be played; there are several pieces on the program and a singer, but if you want to come to the rehearsal, call me and we'll meet up before 4:30 around 59th and Fifth Avenue.

Before then, I'll be coming from the NYPL and the copyists.  I'm not sure I will be going to tonight's event: I make it a rule in Manhattan to avoid the situations outside the theatre where crowds gather.  I'll check out the lay of the land at rehearsal.

Quote
Yes, but BeeGee doesn't use his nose, like Sherlock does.  BeeGee literally "stands up" (on his hind legs) and uses his front paw to press the doorbell button.  All the while giving us the "are you crazy leaving me out here in the fresh air?" plaintive look.

JRand, BeeGee is a clever boy & figured out his bell ringing trick all on his own while we taught Sherlock to ring his little cow bell.  What we didn’t expect was how much Sherlock would enjoy the sound of the bell.  As he walks past it he likes to lean in body into the bell & make it ring, often walking back & worth to do it multiple times.  When he is serious about getting our attention he uses his nose, over and over and over again.

DR Jane re: the President's CUP golf tournament.

The weird thing is that the golf course is not near where i live.  I've never been there.  But i think it's probably a 20-30 minute drive.

It's just the parking lot (buses took people to the golf course) that was on the field near my house.  It made for ridiculous amounts of people here.

TOD:  well it should come as no surprise to anyone that I love the cover versions of pop hits by Sergio Mendes and Percy Faith.  I sent this one to Tomovoz the other day--it's a Slovenian cover version of Sergio's own tune (with the Bergmans) "Look Around":

Monday morning afternoon greetings!  We had a great time at the Brain finale last night - my DH was such a good sport and is still speaking to me, after all.

We are really vegging at our apt. today - slept until 9:30.  I'm not even dressed yet, but will soon get myself in gear and call DR Elmore.  Maybe we can take Edi & Greg's place and visit the Plaza rehearsal this afternoon.

Although many have already left and some have probably already reached their destinations - travel vibes for all who need them today!

I forgot to mention I agree with your comments on the Bionic Woman and Jamie.

I watched the promo for Dirty & found it interesting.  I was tempted to watch but I doubt Keith will like it, so I passed.

We watched REAPER last night and enjoyed it very much.  I remember elmore found it funny?  Anyone else?  We have high hopes for this show.

MOONLIGHT has also made it through round one & will be given a second chance.

I thought REAPER was a hoot! The premise was funny ('by the way, son, before you were born we sold your soul to the devil"), I loved the people at the Home Depot-type job, and I think Ray Wise is genius casting.  Its sense of outrageousness (the DMV a station of hell) is quite appealing.

Of last week's shows, I watched "Chuck", "Heroes" and "Journeyman" on Monday.  I enjoyed all three, but agree "Journeyman" takes some effort.  At least it has the extremely talented Kevin McKidd in the lead role and he is always a joy to see act, IMO.

"Chuck" hit my funnybone in just the right way.  It's not hammy, but quirky.  It doesn't belabor a bit of schtick...rather, it finds unconventional means for a comedic touch.  A computer nerd whose brain has been downloaded with thousands of CIA/NSA secrets, "Chuck" is now a most valuable property...and an agent from each agency is keeping tabs on him as he attempts to live a normal life.

"Heroes" will maintain my devotion despite my misgivings about the way two new characters were introduced.  I'm not sure "misgivings" is the best word...I thought the sequence was too drawn out.  I "got it" the first time, yet the conceit of them being "on the run" and in-danger-while-being-dangerous went on a bit too long for me.  It would have been better to have just demonstrated the terrible power and moved on. Hopefully, all won't be like that  (last season, I thought way too much time was spent on the Nikki/Jessica story line).

Wednesday this week will be interesting for "Pushing Up Daisies".  And, of course, the second episode of "Life."

Last Thursday's "Ugly Betty" was quite fun/touching to me.  I really enjoyed the show.  I recorded "Smallville" and it did not disappoint when I watched it Saturday.  Ditto "Grey's Anatomy" was quite good, although I'm having my doubts about this continuation of the Izzy/George relationship.  I didn't buy it last season, and I'm less inclined to buy it this season.  My least favorite character is Meredith Gray, the "main" character (as the title implies).  I think she's boring and most unlikely to be the center of so much attention.   But that's just me, I guess.  "Supernatural" returns for Season 3 on the CW Network, following "Smallville."  I haven't heard where "Reaper" will be regularly aired.

On Friday, "Ghost Whisperer" was "on form" and terrific. "Moonlight" seems to be a keeper, too.

And last night, I thought "Desperate Housewives" funny and involving.  What a treat to see new neighbors Dana Delany and Nathan Fillion offering to add some excitement to the lives of the Wisteria Lane set.   I've also been led to understand SPOILER that a gay male couple will be moving onto the lane this season.

Here's to good travel vibes to BK as he travels home.  He might actually be here by now?  Anyhow, I hope the east coast HHW time was exciting.  The rest of us just observed here like so much fish living vicariously through the posts.  *sigh*

In other news, we had quite the time in the pit of AGYG this weekend.  For the matinee on Sunday, I had to cover the 'cello AND the Reed 4 parts, as the 'cellist had a conflict and the Reed 4 player basically forgot.  Which we are all just miffed by as he's always reliable.  I guess we all make a mistake.  On Saturday night, the harpist through a rod in one of her pedals and basically left her harp unplayable on Sunday.  So, on Sunday, I had to cover the harp, which I basically did in rehearsal, but have been avoiding them since the band came in.  So, I had to be on my game.  The good part is that I could put all the glissando's back in!

It's a gloomy day here in the South Bay of the SF Bay Area.  I love fall.

Hi, there, good morning, gang.

My sister rikki walked in the door about 7:15 this morning, to squeals of delight from her little dawg! They are both upstairs now, having a nap.

I hope you told her not to lose that number, she don't wanna call nobody else.

Just wanted to say, before I drive Dixie Bell off to the vet (we're hoping it's merely her arthritis kicking in with the season's change),  that I will be, as of 5pm Wednesday -  - - A BORDERS ASSOCIATE!

Don't know yet what I'm going to do about the restaurant; I'll cross that bridge tomorrow, after all, tomorrow is another day.

A-ha!  Someone accused me of the same thing when I directed SOUTH PACIFIC, DR derBRUCER....but I had carefully purchased a 48-star flag....he hadn't bothered to count, just assumed....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My father made Brigadier General in the few months between Alaska and Hawaii (or is it Hawaii and Alaska), so I have a 49 star flag that the US Government gave him to commemorate the occasion.  It's hanging in Betsy's sewing room (correctly, I might add--stars on left, which seems to confound most people).

I forgot to mention Bryan made the ravioli pasta.

Last came the orange, ricotta mascarpone Cannelloni.  He didn't make the shells, just about the only thing he didn't make from scratch.  He sprinkled a vanilla bean chocolate on top, very yummy.

I'm home, safe and sound, after one of the most nightmarish pre-flight mornings I've ever had.  I go into details in the notes (part one written on the plane), but the Reader's Digest version is - many hainsies/kimlets talking about their flights.  My car was on time and took me directly to LaGuardia and got there in an astonishing twenty minutes.  I got through security, but something didn't feel right.  The gates looked completely different than I'd ever seen.  I finally went up to an agent and said I thought I was in the wrong terminal or gate area.  She looked at me e-ticket and said I wasn't in the wrong terminal or gate area, I was in the wrong airport!  Yes, I had LaGuardia on the Brain, but was supposed to be in Newark.  I think most who know me know I'm a very nervous flyer who likes to be at the airport a minimum of two hours early, and thank heaven for that.  At 5:05 I got in a cab, great driver, and she got me to Newark in thirty-five minutes, still an hour before flight.  I got through security (they did a bag check - funny, they didn't at LaGuardia) but it went fast and I was to the gate fifteen minutes before boarding, but a complete wreck.  After that, everything was fine.

Hello, DRs...

I felt terribly about not having the time to properly thank and say goodbye to each of you last night.  However, missing the next train would have got me home with less than 3.5 hours of sleep for today's work day.

Alas, as it happened, I woke up with morning with severe vertigo and nausea, so I didn't go in to work after all.  This is the first I've felt up to staring at the computer screen without vomiting on the ground...BAD vomiting.  :)

In any case:

bk: loved, loved, LOVED your show.  Thank you.
DR elmore3003: it sounded like a million bucks.  Bravo!

DR RonP your comments about the shows you watched last week are actually similar to mine for most of them.

I thought CHUCK was funny and was immediately drawn to the story.

I thought HEROES also focused too much on the new characters. And I also found that Niki was featured too much last year.

And I'm also very anxious to see PUSHING DAISIES (it actually airs here on Tuesday night on a canadian station).

I LOVED UGLY BETTY. Liked SMALLVILLE (i had to catch it on the Space channel), and LOVED LOVED LOVED GHOST WHISPERER.

And i did think DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES was great.

As i said in one of my other posts I sort of liked REAPER did not love it.

I think my fav new show though is GOSSIP GIRL. Am i the only one who watched it?

We never watched GHOST WHISPERER.  I'm not sure MOONLIGHT will make it through round two.  I liked the two leads very much.

I love GHOST WHISPERER.

From what i read MOONLIGHT did not seem like it would appeal to me. Although my dad apparently watched it and said it was very good.

Also the guy from VERONICA MARS is the lead friend. I love him. So i might have watched if i had known. Although friday nights is not a good timeslot!

So sorry you're not feeling well, Sing. Since you saved my last health-care recommendations, I'll pass on one for nausea: ARSENICUM ALBUM 30c (30C  is the potency), available at most health food stores for about $8 or $9. Wonderful for nausea! Good for many viruses, too. Do not take with water or food; just let it dissolve under your tongue. I generally travel with it; I wouldn't want to be without it.

DR MATTH - I have a HDMI pt connection on my television, should my regular DVD player be hooked up to that instead of where it is?

THERE, now you know you're back.

Hey, DR JRand! Glad to be back, if that's a serious question, first check to see if your DVD player even has an HDMI port on it. Can't use the TV port for the DVD player unless the DVD player has an HDMI port, too.

If it does have an HDMI port, that's a digital connection, and that's always preferable to the component (analog connection) that gives the next best image quality. I can see a difference between the image quality in the two ports, but some people swear there's no difference. I'm guessing the larger the screen, the more easily you'd be able to tell the difference.

MGM Classic Musicals (West Side Story/Guys and Dolls/Fiddler on the Roof/A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum/How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying/Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) (1971)

Amazon gives no hint as to whether or not this are "widecreen enhanced, or whatever. We already have WSS and Fiddler, but the other four would seem to make the box worthwile.

Your thoughts - (I know the shows themselves are not top tier but building a reference library for some-day-to-be teenagers is a process.

der Brucer

I think this is a way to rid themselves of a stockpile of old non-anamorphic transfers. I believe the GUYS AND DOLLS in this box is the old unenhanced transfer (which a lot of people preferred to the later enhanced one which trimmed the sides of the image in the remaster). I think the CHITTY DVD in the box is the pan and scan version which would totally negate any interest I'd have in buying the box. FORUM and HOW TO SUCCEED were also unenhanced transfers, if I'm not mistaken, but for them, that's all that's available right now. CHITTY was given a beautiful anamorphic transfer a few years ago.

Well, DR (as in DOCTOR) Murphy didn't have anything truly bad to say about DD Dixie Bell; there's nothing new with her joints - it IS just the arthritis season and she has an extra five pounds which an additional twenty minute walk daily will take care of.
DDR Murphy and I also went over her diet and I've agreed to cut the rice out and give her more vegetables like the green beans and broccoli that she loves.

DD Dixie Bell was an angel in the car - soaking up the air conditioning, rather than trying to stick her head out of the moon roof.  ;D

I did sit down after a lunch that ran late and watched Gun Van Sant's MALA NOCHE. An interesting "first" attempt (he said in a disc interview that he had made a 45 minute film that got no distribution), and there are some lovely things in it. The narrator/main actor of the piece is such a sweet natured guy, I spent the entire movie dreading that something awful was going to befall him. (I mean, with that title "Bad Night," it's understandable to think that!)

Criterion has done a fine job cleaning it up (just one hair and a few light scratches near the end), but, DR Elmore, it IS very dark and shadowy. Van Sant said in his interview that they just used available lighting and three spotlights do that's why shadows go so deep and the light falls off so quickly.

It was made for $20,000 so it has that REAL independent film look to it.

And the Gus Van Sant interview was good. Nice to get good background information on the making of a film by the person who made it! There are a couple of other bonus features on the disc I haven't gotten to yet. I'll get to them when I go back down.

That means I might not get to DEXTER or COLD CASE until tomorrow.

I'm glad I took today off from work as well as yesterday, because there is no way I could have survived going to work today.

I need to head off to the store, to find fine dining fixings for tonight.

I loved getting to see everyone yesterday, even if I didn't get to chat with everyone.  Who knew that DR Singling was so tall!

I have decided that I do not care that much for NY-style pizza.  The crust is too thin - it was like having flavorings on top of a communion wafer.

DR Noel: I'll be sending you an e-mail or more on my thoughts about Such Good Friends.  They don't belong here on the public board.

Dear Esteemed BK: I'll try to get some posts together about polenta, which I hope will amount to interesting reading.

Der Brucer is snoozing on the couch.  I think I'd better walk to the store.

Back later.

I had a good time yesterday, but it's good to be home.

I watched "Bionic Woman," "Dirty..." and "Reaper" and enjoyed them all.  I was pleasantly surprised that there were three actors from "Battlestar Galactica" on "Bionic Woman."  I just hope that they're not going to be regulars on "BW" and no longer be on "BG"...at least, until the end if the 4th (and final) season of "BG."

I recorded "Moonlight," but I haven't watched it yet.  It does look interesting, so I'll make sure I take the time to see it.

Speaking of MattH - I have a question.  It looks like I'm attending a wedding in Lexington, South Carolina in December.  My question is what is the best airport to fly into when flying to Lexington.

Well in ain't LaGuardia OR Newark.  ;D

I really like "Chuck" (and certainly the actor ;)), but it's like a comedic variation on "Jake 2.0 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367344/)" that Christopher Gorham (now on "Ugly Betty") was in, which didn't last too long.  I liked that show, but it took itself too seriously and the bits of humor weren't really that funny. :-\ "Chuck" is funny and I hope it lasts for a while. :)

Thank you, DR Matthew.

As for your question, DR Ron Pulliam might know better than I since I think Lexington is nearer his part of the state than upperSC/lower NC where I am.

My guess is fly into Columbia, SC, but that's just a guess.

Absolutely...Lexington is part of the Greater Columbia environs.  You are very close to Lexington when you arrive in Columbia.

I think Winston-Salem is your best bet. It's 21 miles away from Lexington.  There is a closer "airport" in Davison County, but it's props and stuff....there might be a shuttle from Winston-Salem.

I'd ask whoever invited you what the best airport is for convenience.  Winston-Salem may not even have an airport.  I don't know my NC airports all that well.

UUGGHH!!  I do not like the Izzy/George relationship.  It all just seems so WRONG...well, to me (in my humble opinion :)).

The addition of Nathan Fillion (who I love) was almost enough to make me start watching DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, but  not quite.

Keith and I don't drink red wine, we both get headaches from it.  Keith had Bryan's homemade beer and I had the wine Bryan purchased especially for me.  It was a dry white wine, Coda di Volpe Irpinia.  I've never had it before & it went very well with the dinner, nice and smooth.   :)

Interesting, I had always wondered if a flag was made for that short period between Hawaii and Alaska's statehood in 1959

I'm back from  the rehearsal at the Plaza - red carpet and security everywhere not to mention at 10-ft taoo cake looking like the Plaza Hotel - with DR Ginny and Richard.  DR Jose, where were you?  DR edisaurus and Greg showed up briefly to take some photos and cheer me on.  The orchestra sounded great although the mikes had boosted the strings so much that the brass got lost in the jumble.  The piece will fulfill its functon nicely and I feel that - although I hardly got to know Paul Gemignani - I admire his professionalism and wicked sense of humor.

By the way, DR PennyO, Paul says hello back at ya!

After that, DR Ginny, Richard and I went to dinner at a lovely Mexican place on 54th and 9th Ave.  I had two margaritas and now I'm tipsy.  What a wonderful day!

We've had a delightful afternoon/evening here in NYC.  DH Richard and I headed out about 1:30, did a couple of errands, and had a light lunch at one of our favorite places, La Bonne Soupe.  We then window-shopped on 5th Ave., met DR Elmore, and accompanied him to the rehearsal at the Plaza.  That was a real treat, being up close and personal at the prep for tonight's gala celebration.  DR Edi and Greg stopped by, too, just before being whisked away to the airport for their return to Atlanta.  We went to dinner at El Centro, the Mexican jernt on our corner, and poured a Margarita-soden DR Elmore into a taxi about half an hour ago.  I see he made it home already.

We're crashed at our apartment for the evening.  It'll probably be an early night for us.

DR Ginny, how do you like staying in the apartment instead of a hotel?  Do you have a conference beginning some time this week?

DR Jane - we're liking this apartment thing very much.  It's nice to be able to have breakfast without being presentable.  I also like the fact that we don't have to get out of the room for housekeeping and that people aren't going to be in here when we're not home.  We do have to do things for ourselves, like making the bed and keeping things picked up, but that's like home.  We've found ourselves spending more time here than we would in a hotel room, but chilling out is just what we need after the physical and emotional roller coaster we've been on for the past month and a half.

And considering this apartment is costing us less than half what a dinky room in the Comfort Inn would cost us this week, we're liking it even more!

DR Jane - yes, ask Keith what Sherlock is on; Dr Murphy suggested, in addition to the glucosamine, that we start giving Dixie Bell 400iu of Vitamin E as well as ascryptin for any pain;  he cut the rice out of her diet, allowing her to have rice cakes for breakfast, though.  Five to ten pounds won't be too, too hard for her to lose - and I'll be losing them with her.

Good evening all.  Well Sam and I are home.  It took longer than we thought it would. We boarded the plane in Milwaukee and were told it was broken. It had a burned out something or other so we had to get off the plane and wait about an hour while they fixed it. We both slept off and on on the plane and Sam slept most of the way from Omaha to Sioux City. We hit some terrible road construction so we were delayed even more.  After we got to my house, Sam still had another 2 hours to drive. She just walked in the door at her house.

We are both very tired. We had a wonderful time, but are glad to be home.

In the morning....Sam has jury duty

The Doubletree Inn gives you loads of extra cookies if you stay during a family, or pet crises.  Not the best circumstances to get extra cookies, still they are soothing & keeps one going.

You have to buy it, but they have a real chef who makes it fresh daily.  The salad was very big. The veges were all crunchy. The fruit was firm not mushy and the bread was fresh and very tasty.   There was enough food that Sam and I split one.   The other options were A pulled pork sandwich or a chicken fajita - or something chicken/mexican - can't exactly remember what

A new breakfast, lunch and dinner experience
Imagine a chef-prepared meal served to you on your flight. An appetizing blend of fresh ingredients and flavors that incorporate Asian, Southwestern, South American and European influences. That's what Best Care Cuisine is all about – a contemporary and elegant approach to buy-onboard dining service.

Midwest has partnered with one of Milwaukee's finest restaurants, Mader's, and engaged its executive chef, Shawn Monroe, to redesign our onboard menu. He and his staff will prepare interesting and flavorful meals for our customers – all at an attractive price. Chef Monroe, who has worked with celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck and Daniel Boulud, places special emphasis on using local products and blending regional cooking styles into a contemporary presentation.

Best Care Cuisine includes breakfast ($5.50 and $7.50), lunch and dinner
($5.50 and $10).

"Midwest built its reputation as "The best care in the air" by offering outstanding customer service. We intend to continue this legacy by providing an inflight dining experience that is second to none."

It's wonderful. They have classical music playing as you board the plane.  The seats are leather and two on a side. Wide enough for Midwesterners who may be a bit wide, lol.   They are polite and I've never had a problem. Going through Milwaukee is nice, it's a small quiet and clean airport. In the meantime...

I ended up attending the closing performance of another NYMF show, The Yellow Wood.  And it too was at The Acorn Theatre.  *And from what I could tell, the one lighting instrument was still out this afternoon.  :-\  In any case...

What a truly interesting show - and I mean that in the best possible sense.  It centers on a teenage boy with ADD who's having all sorts of identity issues.  Although, I felt some of the songs tended to go on a bit too long at times, there were some truly beautiful passages throughout, along with some wonderful lyrics.  The one phrase that sticks in my head right now is:

I'd rather be a door than a window.

A couple of ACL alumni were starring in it - Jason Tam and Yuka Takara - which was my main reason for wanting to see the show.  Additionally, the totally amazing Randy Blair from DR elmore's beloved Tragic Life of the Singing Nun was also featured.  And, of course, the show was directed by B.D. Wong who recently starred in Skip Kennon's Herringbone up at Williamstown this past summer.

It turned out that a bunch of other ACL-ers were their today too to support Jason and Yuka including the one and only Baayork Lee.  Not only did we end up sitting next to each other during the show, but we also ended up having dinner afterwards at La Madeleine.  And what a dinner it was...

A Wild Mushroom Tarte to start off with, followed by Diver Scallops for Baayork and Duck for me.  Tres delicieux!  -And we split their Valhrona Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding for dessert.

We talked and talked and talked about everything and everyone.  DR elmore - she passes on her best to you, and the three of us are supposed to get together for dinner next time, OK?  ;)

I also took the opportunity to ask her a couple of questions about the original production of A Chorus Line as well as the current revival, and I'm sure many an ear was burning as a result of my queries.  I did ask her about something the DR Michael Shayne asked a couple months ago: Why so many people in the original cast did not do anything after their stint in A Chorus Line?  Well...

It was a different business then, and for the most part, the original cast members were essentially at the end of their careers - they were getting too old to be the "chorus cuties".  The show did not launch their careers.  Baayork had already been in ten Broadway show before that.  Where was she supposed to go after ACL?  Unless another production of The King & I or Flower Drum Song popped up, there was no real place for her on Broadway at that time.  Fortunately, for her, since she was Michael's assistant, she's been working ever since, albeit behind the scenes rather than on stage.  And the rest of that cast were already Broadway veterans too.

Fast forward to the current revival cast... Yes, there are some Broadway babies in the cast, but there were/are a lot of debuts too.  The actor playing Mark just turned 21 a few weeks ago!  And many of them have moved on to other projects as a result of being cast in the revival.  Different times, different biz.

Sort of a fluke, sort of not.

There are a good chunk of American show running over there right now, so...  Additionally, I believe their theatrical "high season" occurs more in the late winter and Spring.  Additionally, a lot of the "good theatre" seems to be taking place in the smaller theatre off the main stem.

Where's DR Pogue when we need him?  ;)
