Well, you've read the notes, the notes were note like, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently using a chainsaw on the farmer in the dell.

Gee, I guess everyone has gone off to bed for the night...

Thank you so much for the warm thoughts. I would much rather be working on a project with people who are fun and do it because they love it and are good at it ( or want to learn, like me) rather than working because they were told to. I think this may have turned out to be a larger project than you expected, with less help than you thought you would be able to pull in, but the fact that we have come as far as we have is amazing, and I think it will be  be a wonderful show.

I was not an owner of many toys and really was not that interested in them. I was a reader.  Most of my childhood books are now with my niece - to be read by her two daughters.

My favourite books were by Enid Blyton. (as Were DR Jason's I think). I also had a collection of Bobbsy Twins books.
I think I had about 20 of them.  There were over 70 written.

Apparently Nonesuch will be releasing a two-disc special edition of the Sweeney soundtrack with all of the music from the film.  Whether it will be something we'll want to listen to over and over remains to be seen.

Yes, last night I did attend the second of Jason Graae's two NYC cabaret appearances at Birdland, "Graae's Anatomy."  It was pretty close to sold out.  It was very well received by a great audience.  I had a stupid wide grin on my face for the entire set, and at the end my face actually hurt from smiling and laughing so much.  He was charming and manic, and besides the laughs squeezed in some heart-stoppingly gorgeous and sensitively sung ballads as well.  Some of the set pieces included his West Side Story segment and his Lucky Charms Leprechaun segment and an oboe segment.

The most thrilling moment for me came at the top of the show.  Mary Testa and Jim Caruso took the stage to open the show with a parody of Sondheim's "Getting Married Today."  Then, at a certain point, Jason appeared in the midst of the audience and started singing - just 2 inches behind my left ear.  And HE PUT HIS HAND ON MY SHOULDER - TWICE! before disappearing and popping up in a different section.

Sadly, I had to run to catch my train right after, so could not stay and give him your greetings, DR td.   :(  And again, apologies to DR JoseSPiano for the short notice on the extra ticket.

Oh, and I also sampled my first Little Pie Company Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie last night.  I can't say that I liked it BETTER than a Levain's Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, but it was pretty darn amazing.

I think I may go back to sleep for a while.  Last night, I got to bed late (10:00 pm) for me; and, of course, I then couldn't fall asleep.  Finally, about 3:30, I started to fall deeply asleep, just in time for Angel and Nicky to wake me for breakfast.

Tuesday is a work day for me this week.

I watched THE LODGER last night....which I don't like quite as much as I like HANGOVER SQUARE....  Laird certainly was much heavier in the earlier film THE LODGER.  And I like Linda more than I like Merle.

The two dance numbers that featured Merle Oberon just weren't fun or "star making" the way they were supposed to be, and it didn't seem to be Merle in the long shots of the shot or even the MLS.

Good morning, all!  My usual day has been kiboshed for two days at City Center helping Encores! with a deasdline.  I can only say that the musical editor who received a pile of grant money to prepare an edition of a long-lost show is being overly generous in referring to herself as a musical editor and the amount of  work I have to clean up is ridiculous because I see nothing in the scores that a good editor wouldn't have fixed immediately.  Today, Act One and tomorrow, t'other.

TOD:  I had lots of wonderful toys as a child and a great many books and comic books, many of which would fetch a good price today.  When I went to college, and later when my parents moved, my mother threw out everything without even asking me if there were anything I wanted to keep.  But it was always about her.

I had lots of toys and books and records as a kid, but apart from the records from SLEEPING BEAUTY (Darlene Gillespie singing; there was no soundtrack album released then) and the Colorforms SLEEPING BEAUTY set which I played with long after SLEEPING BEAUTY was a memory, I can't remember anything that followed me into the teen years.

My Nancy Drew books were read and then stored in my closet, but when I got to college, I found out my roommate was a big Nancy Drew fan, too, so I began pulling them out of the closet and re-reeading some of them again. Years later, when I bought my house and had room for them, I went back home and learned that my mother without my knowledge of concent had given my complete Nancy Drew collection to the Girls' Home in town. While it was thoughtful for them, I was so hurt. Anyway, I began rebuying my favorite ones, but many had different covers. I found a few on Ebay fairly recently that were the same as I had, and I got them to fill holes in the collection.

JRAND,
It's interesting that you should mention finding a cat scratch on your body when you don't have a cat. A few weeks ago I found several scratches about my neck and shoulders--and no knowledge of from whence they came. I suppose it's possible that I scratched myself while sleeping. But could there be a PHANTOM FELINE that's lurking around H/Ks?

BK,
could we do a HHW dog/cat show? One day devoted to dogs, another day devoted to cats. Our DRs could post photos of their DP (dear pets), past and present. Yes, we've seen many of them, but I, for one, sometimes confuse Miss Dixie Bell with Miss Blue Moon and don't have a clear image of Bosco. And I suppose I shouldn't rule out other species, such as Singdaw's whatever.

Have you done this before?

Well, I was feeling quite sleepy while trying to watch the 11:00 news last night, so I just crawled into bed, and went right to sleep.  Thus the cause of my wussburgering.

My radio went off this morning at 6:45, but my feet didn't hit the floor until a little before 9:00, and then I made sure I got ready to head to the gym then and there.  -Or it never would have happened.

I had a good workout, and, again, the place was practically empty, which I like.  However, I did start wondering how I would have to streamline my workouts if I happened to go when the place was a bit more populated.  In any case, I'm enjoying being able to take my time, and set my own pace right now.  And not feel "guilty" for hogging some of the equipment stations.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I'm not sure what I answered last time, but, right now, I really can't think of anything.  Since my Dad was in the Coast Guard, we moved around every two to three years - well, sometimes even every two to three weeks(!) - my brothers and I never really held on to that many things.  -Mainly because, they would eventually get packed up in a box again sooner or later.

When I was in high school, I remember taking a black key of a piano that was being junked - I think it was a high E-Flat.  I drilled a whole in it, and attached a leather shoe lace to it and wore it as a necklace of sorts.  Some people thought it was some sort of demonic worship symbol.  ;)  I had that for about four or five years, but lost track of it somewhere along the way.

As for last night's TV offerings....

"Heroes" - I liked it.

"Samantha Who?" - I'm still liking this show.  Yes, there are some holes in the whole amnesia set-up for Christina Applegate's character, but at least the writers seem to be carrying through with their premise and doing it rather well.  And I also like that fact that the fast pacing of the jokes doesn't seem "crowded" or rushed.  And the supporting cast also gets their share of laughs too.

TOD:

A red tractor I had [before I was old enough to ride a bike] that had a chain/pedal mechanism...I used to ride that thing EVERYWHERE!  No idea what happened to it.

Also a 5' high brontosaurus skeleton made out of styrofoam.  My friend Brian and I painted each rib a different primary color.  The jaw was hinged with a rubber band.

A mystery book series called "The Three Investigators."

I neglected to mention the wonderfully creative contributions by music director/pianist Alex Rybeck to Jason's program last evening.

I'm kind of curious about the financials of cabaret...I'm assuming, since tickets were sold for the event, that Jason has to pay some entity some kind of fee for the right to perform those songs and charge admission.   If he has special material written for him, though, not for those items?

The club itself pays an overall fee to the publishing entities, not Jason.  Jason gets a piece of the gate and/or just a salary and has to pay Alex.

A mountain lion cub was released into the wild Sunday after Gilroy animal-control officials tranquilized the cat found in a back yard.

A homeowner reported seeing the 30-pound animal at 8:45 a.m., Gilroy police said.

The cub, estimated to be about 6 months old, had been snacking on dog food, police said.

The cougar was tranquilized in the back yard of a home on the 8800 block of Carnation Lane and turned over to the California Department of Fish and Game.

BK,
could we do a HHW dog/cat show? One day devoted to dogs, another day devoted to cats. Our DRs could post photos of their DP (dear pets), past and present. Yes, we've seen many of them, but I, for one, sometimes confuse Miss Dixie Bell with Miss Blue Moon and don't have a clear image of Bosco. And I suppose I shouldn't rule out other species, such as Singdaw's whatever.

Have you done this before?

Well.. Just talked to my brother, Jay. He was sweeping up the ashes on his front walk.  :-\  Thankfully, with the way his development is set up, the likelihood of the fires reaching his area are slim, but, again, no one ever really knows... if the winds get crazy, well... In any case, his workplace did shut down yesterday, so he's been at home all day watching over things and cleaning.  And, yes, he's still planning on coming in for the marathon, and, thankfully, he's been tapering of his runs in preparation for next weekend.  But it does look like he'll be hogging the treadmill at the gym for a bit.

I also liked last night's show.  No twins (yeah!). But more surprisingly, no Claire (for the first time!).

Interesting seeing Peter's painting of Montreal.

I liked Kristen Bell and her power. But she was so Veronica Mars. I was wondering if they asked her to be that way or if she chose to (or if that is just how she always is). But i still love her.  And i am dying to know who her dad is.

The fight scene with matt and nathan was awesome.

And i love micah and monica. And i loved their scenes together.

Btw, does this mean matt had a baby? (or was that just a dream?).

I love Peter. But i want him to get out of Ireland.

I"m curious if Veronica Mars is good or bad.

I spent the rest of the afternoon watching four L-WORD episodes. Though I don't find them well written, and the hook ups between the women are so predictable as to be absurd (no surprises ever as to who ends up with whom), I have to say that Marlee Matlin looks stunningly beautiful in this show (and her interpreter is dangerously cute and playing a gay character himself).

It also by the end of the week will likely order a full season for SAMANTHA WHO, DIRTY SEXY MONEY, and WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB as well.

DR Ron Pulliam - do you know if the actors portraying the other Scavo boys on Desperate Housewives are actually brothers of Zane Huett?

They are played by Brent and Shane Kinsman, who also appeared as children of Steve Martin in "Cheaper by the Dozen" and its sequel.

Oh... And, I, too, woke up with a unidentifiable, unknown cat scratch on the back of my right leg yesterday.  And I have absolutely no idea just how it got there.  I don't even remember being scratched by anything.

Hmm... This is all started starting to sound like a really bad spin-off of "Heroes".

The one thing all of you seem to have in common is Ms. Snarkie...err...umm....Miss Karen.

Keep those scratches clean and put some antibiotic on them.  I don't want any of you coming down with a snark infection.

You're joking, right? (I have a hard time telling with you, DR TCB. I'm sorry.)

Every show that gets canceled is bad? And it ran three years, so that means it was good for two years and then bad the third year?

I'm just not following this line of thought (even in jest).

Not every show, obviously.  Some very good ones never seem to get a good break.

But then, some -- like "Joey" -- are absolutely awful from the gitgo and still manage two full seasons.

And let's not forget the abomination that was called "Caroline in Charge".   Woof!

I saw a wonderful film on TCM yesterday afternoon.

"Until They Sail" -- Paul Newman, Jean Simmons, Joan Fontaine, Sandra Dee, and an impossibly young Piper Laurie, Richard Drake.  Also a small part for a very young Dean Jones w/southern accent.    Directed by Robert Wise.  Music score by David Raksin.

Beautifully filmed in black and white, well-directed and crisply edited.

Cat pill giving:

I sit on the floor, and have the cat sit in my lap. After petting and giving him lots of love, I rub his chin until his head is tilted up, and then gently pry his mouth open from the side and pop the pill down the throat. Since his head is raised, it's hard to conteract gravity and I'm usually successful.

In the past, I've found that coating a pill with butter works well. It slides down easily, and cats like the taste of butter. Something juicy like tuna would dissolve the pill and bring out the often bitter taste.

Nice to see TPunk and glad to hear about her new kitty!

My vet told me that he thinks shelters neuter cats too young, because they want to "move their stock". Even though it's possible to do it at such a young age, he thinks it stunts their growth and they don't mature as they normally would.

I don't know this for a fact, it's just his opinion.

It was a very long day at Encores! I got through the Overture and three numbers.  I have no idea if the orchestra reading on Saturday will occur or be postponed given the state of things.  The lady behind this project was paid a lot of money through a grant to restore this show, she's worked on it four years, and it's rife with entry errors and wrong notes.  Since she's incapable of seeing a wrong from a right note, I have no idea what her edition will be like: she clearly shows no understanding of an Errata List, touring band parts vs Broadway pit parts, or the curiosity of one number having parts for two horns, which are not part of the the orchestration for the other 20 numbers!  On top of that, she's defensive and, like the Fat conductor of Limited Talent and Limitless Ego, she holds all her work and research close to her so no one can see what the realities may be or threaten her feelng of superiority.

On the plus side, any excuse to visit with my friend talented and funny Josh for a day is a reaon to party.

Good Evening!

Well, I just ended up taking the A Train down to 14th Street, and then walking East until I got to Union Square, and then walking back West to grab the A Train back uptown.  In the meanwhile, I stopped into The Virgin Megastore - surprise, surprise - and picked some classical and jazz discs I've been reading about.  Then it was over to New York Costume to visit a friend of mine who's working their "Holiday Shift" for a while.

New York Costume is HUGE!!!  The store spans the whole block, and the clerks(!) even give out maps to the store.  And, yes, it was a virtual madhouse.  However, my friend told me that on weekends, the line to get in starts forming about an hour before they open.  Now that's busy!  Of course, with Halloween coming up they're pretty swamped right now, but they also do a big Santa Suit business as well as rent costumes to many of the TV shows that film in NYC (SNL, various soap operas, etc.).  In any case...

I had a good visit with my friend, Geff, between his "bouts" of customer service.  And, boy, did he have some characters/customers.  I happened to meet one of his regulars who apparently has been buying at least one little costume accessory each day for the past couple of years.  Today he was checking out the the stuff in the "Pirate's Cove".  The mind boggles at just how "stuff" this gentleman has in his apartment.

Oh... Since I know you're all dying to know, here's today's food report:

Late lunch/early dinner: Stand (http://www.sandburger.com) - I had their Chopped Salad (frisee, romaine, green beans, hard-boiled egg, grape tomatoes, carrots radishes, etc.) topped with one of their Beef Burgers - actually it was three of their mini-burgers on a skewer - cute presentation, with their house vinaigrette.  Plus, a glass of their homemade Rosemaryade.  Very refreshing.

Snack: Le Pain Quotidien (http://lepainquotidien.com/) - Mini Green Tea Ginger Cake with Mung Beans.  It looked interesting, so I gave it a try.  It tasted interesting too, although, I think the mung beans were/are a questionable addition, but at least they add texture and some fiber.

Refreshment: Tavalon (http://www.tavalon.com/) - A Taro Tornado Tea Smoothie with "Bubbles".  Yum!

My friend Margo said that a woman who works in our computer department is the pet guru and she (the pet guru) recommends a guy just a couple of miles away.  I'll call him in the morning.  He's supposed to be the Cadillac of vets (meaning expensive) but he's supposed to be the best.  I figure for a second opinion (with the possibility of NOT having surgery), it might be worth the expense...at least, that's the hope.

DR RLP - I love the movie UNTIL THEY SAIL.  It was 14 year old Sandra Dee's first film....she was signed up by Universal-International and immediately loaned out to MGM and flown off to Australia....

I also think Ralph Votrian as Max Murphy is great!!!  John Wilder (also on loan from U-I) makes a good impression, too.

I have seen every episode of The Brady Bunch
I have seen every episode of Gilligan's Island
I have seen almost every episode of The Beverly Hillbillys
I have seen about half of the Seinfeld episodes
I have seen most of the MASH episodes (though I really don't like the show)

I have seen 1 episode of My Mother the Car
I have never seen The Mothers-in-Law

It is a toss up between Addams Family and The Munsters (both had wonderful writers and actors)

I liked Caroline in the City.

I have never seen a whole episode of The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

The only episodes of QasF I saw were those the Matt Battaglia appeared in

The only episodes of Dynasty I saw were those that Leann Hunely appeared in.

I meant to ask this earlier. But how old is the oldest kid from DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? I remember BK said he was looking for a 12 yr old. And to me this kid seems much younger. I know the twins are even younger. But to me the oldest kid still seems so young (or at least he does on DH).

DR Jennifer,  most kid actors tend to look much younger then they are.

Maybe. Although i think the kid on UGLY BETTY looks his age.

Although i suspect the older kid on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (regardless of his real age) is probably playing someone who is younger.

I really really do not get it. Why are the judges constantly surprised when the moderately good dancers get put in the B2. Tonight they were shocked that jane seymour was in the bottom (she did not go).  Who exactly are they expecting to be in the bottom?

To me Mark cuban and marie osmond were the worst. But then it has to be jane. I like jane seymour. and she is doing great for her age. But i wasn't at all surprised. I mean someone has to be in the bottom!

I watched several more episodes of THE L-WORD. I am 2 episodes from finishing the set, and I'll be glad when I do. Yes, even in a mediocre show, you do get caught up in the melodrama. Shane taking care of her brother Shay and then having the lousy father (Eric Roberts) show up and claim his son - well, you can't help but care.

This day has been a very long day. Work was very busy and crazy AND they haven't turned on the heat yet, which is fine if you have a south window where the sun shines, but I'm on the northwest corner.   I complained pretty loudly that my office shouldn't be 60 degrees at noon (when i got back from an unexpected but necessary trip to immigration court in Omaha).

They are bringing me a space heater to get me through until they start the boiler.  It's 32 degrees at night...what are they waiting for?

I could find nothing on the LACC website.

We have nothing to do with the LACC website and shall we say they are less than cooperative.  Our website is LACCTAA.com (or org) and it has complete info on the show and a link to the Alex Theatre box office.  Or, you can go directly to alextheater.com and they have the info, too.
