Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not worrisome, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - what, me worry?

And the word of the day is: XEROPHAGY!

Isn't that a great Scrabble word.

Confused for a moment...the topic order seems out of order on the index page.

DR George, I so pleased for you with the good news about Ebonie! :)

Of course, these were on when my sister and I were in elementary school, so my affection for them might not remain if I were to watch them now. ;)

Nice photos, DR SINGDAW.
Very nice evening recitation, DRJOSE. Glad everything worked out and the clan got together!
Sounds like things are moving ahead for the Fund Raiser.
Wonder what else DRMBARNUM sent to MR BK? Hmmmmm.....wonder if any Allison Hayes material was included?
-
Well I am reviewing THE JAZZ SINGER and the SAM KATZMAN box set for the upcoming - who knows when - issue of SCARLET STREET, unless td was assigned either of those things. The gentlemen putting together the issue doesn't know exactly if anything was already assigned.
-
HOWEVER, in beginning my research in preparation for writing.....
Young Jakie in the movie who grew up to be homely Jakie - Al Jolson - was played by Bobby Gordon.
Bobby Gordon grew up to be an actor and director - and the man that Allison Hayes wanted to marry - but he didn't want to divorce his wife....and never did.
-
I shall soon be off to work.
Yes, DR MBARNUM, Gale Storm was very pretty.

I could never figure out her hair style....but it's something that DR CILLA LIZ might try - it would certainly get the judge's attention during trial!

Saturday morning greetings! Here I am at work for a full day of information-waitressing.

Well I am off to work as well, DR GINNY. I guess we will keep the world going this fine November Saturday.
-
And the word of the day is: XEROPHAGY!
And The Song Of The Day Is: YOU'RE JUST IN LOVE
-
Hi all. Well, this is the first Saturday I haven't had to work in 3 weekends. I have been like the Energizer Bunny--I keep going and going..... It seems like I have someplace to go every night. I've been seeing the Chiropractor 2 or 3 times a week.
In fact, I have to leave in just a bit because I have another appointment with the Chiropractor and I'm stopping off at the kennel to pay for the dogs while I'm gone.
Of all times Bear came down with Kennel Cough from the dog park and Sheena has a tape worm! I had to get them to the vet on Halloween night. I didn't get home until after seven. By the time I got them fed and myself it was after nine.
I'm praying that the meds will take effect on Bear so he can go into the Kennel. If not, I'm at a loss as to what I'm going to do. He also got another Bordetella shot because he had his last one in January. Sheena didn't need it because she had hers in June and the doctor felt it wouldn't do her any good to have one again so soon.
At least she hasn't shown any signs of coughing---yet.
-
I hope all are doing well. I can't believe my trip is next weekend. I've been watching the weather I think I will be packing my coat and some warm clothes. I know they have already had a freeze.
Way too cold for this Florida gal to go in shorts and a T shirt, I can tell you that. :D ;)
Vibes to all who need them. Hugs to everyone. If things would just slow down a bit and go back to being "normal". I don't think I know what what word means anymore.

I had time this morning to watch episode 6 of B.A. Monumental changes in character dynamics by the end of this episode - almost halfway through the series now, so how things change will be interesting to watch.
I wish the video quality was better. I'm sure Criterion has done all it could with these TV films, but the quality is SO all over the map - some fairly sharp, some soft, some grainy. All of it bathed in a greenish brown tint that is monotonous watching episode after episode back-to-back.
Like the problems I had with NCIS, I'm always glad to watch something with more natural color, sharpness, and style.
-
I'm invited out to a friend's house who's cooking dinner for some out of town guests and me. Should be a fun evening. I should still be able to be back here in the late afternoon and the late evening as usual, so I don't think I'll have to be E&T today unless unforseen circumstances prevail.

Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up.... And I'm already at the rehearsal hall.
When I finally woke up at 11:00(!?!?!?!), I just knew that if I didn't put my feet on the floor and start getting ready to head in, I probably would have stayed in bed all day. So, that's what I did. Of course, once I got here, it turns out that afternoon rehearsal session won't be starting until 1:45 (it was supposed to start at 1:00), which was fine. I got a chance to leisurely eat my lunch, as well as make a few phone calls. -And, of course, catching up on the posts here on HHW. ;)
-
-But I did get a good night's sleep, and I guess I'll head back to the gym tomorrow morning instead.
-
And, yes, I did have a wonderful time last night with my brothers. However...
I just found out that my brother, Mike, had to head back home to Virginia early this morning due to a family emergency. His wife and kids are all right, but they, apparently, had some sort of scare last night, so he headed back home on the first train back down to Union Station this morning. Vibes would be much appreciated.

TOD: well I can't say it was a favorite of mine, since I, along with 95% of America, never saw it, but I have always been inordinately interested in the one episode flopperoo that was supposed to be ABC's answer to Laugh-In, circa 1969 or 1970. It starred Tim Conway and was called Turn On, and there was such an uproar before it aired (due, IIRC, to the word "sex" being scrolled across the screen--ah, how times have changed, Virginia), that most of the nation (including Seattle, where I was at the time) pre-empted it.

hi dr elmore. are u feeling less grumpy? :)
-
It was supposed to be in the 60s today but instead is cloudy windy and low 50s. Much colder than I thought it was going to be. I did take in all the outside furniture and did a few fix it jobs. I was trying to fix the outside faucet, but I just can't get it, so I'm going to call the plumber on Monday.
-
I don't have much energy today. I returned some clothes I ordered through the catalog at Coldwater Creek - they were too big. Anyway, I had made my mind up I wasn't going to buy anything....but...well there was this jacket and it was really cool....and I can wear it to work....and it was $30 off....
-
If I can muster the energy, I'm going to put all the screens back in the gazebo. I wanted to paint them, but I can do that in the spring. I need to see if I have the plastic and supplies to cover the screens and winterize the gazebo. If so, I think I'll do that tomorrow.
-
If I can't muste the energy I'll either watch God Grew Tired of Us or The Wind that Shakes the Barley.

Halfway through the lighting script, so I'll be able to finish that later today. However, we had a bad e-mail this morning - Vicki Lewis has dropped out - two days before the show. A TV gig, naturally. She's not sure she'd be out in time and the TV people won't promise her anything - naturally. And that is what makes doing these benefits so horrifying. We're still trying to talk to her to see if there's any way it can still happen - she wouldn't go on until about eight-forty, and I'm not sure she knew that. We shall see. I've been trying maniacally to come up with a replacement who could learn a long song in two days, but have come up empty. Easiest thing to do would be to just cut it and move another number to its slot (the opening of act two), and I already know how that would work, and while I'd hate to lose the song, it may well be what we have to do.
-
Cilla, hope you saw the explanation in my inscription!
-
It's happened to dear reader Laura a couple of times, too. I go through several versions of the acknowledgments, and in this case I updated it and they inadvertantly used the one before the update and I didn't catch it.

As for the slow verse of "Meadowlark"...
The original version of the vocal selections for The Baker's Wife that came out in 1990 had the slow first verse, and I believe that those selections were based on the London production that was presented that year too. However, I also recall seeing the slow verse in manuscript from a previous production - done in Chicago, I think - as well as in a copy of a the p/v score from MTI at the time - god knows, how many versions MTI has in their library.
*I also just noticed that there is a new version of the vocal selections that now contains "Chanson" "Gifts of Love", and "Proud Lady" - which I'm guessing were ported over from the Stephen Schwartz Collection/Songbook.

It's not a good day, but I was rude, Nursie, and I apologize. You know I love you.

I now have a ticket to The Glorious Ones.
This week will be full of theatre. I'm going on Tuesday (Cymbeline), Wednesday (The Glorious Ones) and Thursday (Rock and Roll). I was hoping against hope that there would be $20 rear mezzanine tickets for the limited run of Cyrano with Kevin Kline but alas, there are none. I'm not sure I want to pay $80 and I'm not going to pay $120 so I don't think I'll be seeing Cyrano.
I also bought a Christmas gift for my nephew (who has recently discovered the joys of musical theatre), the souvenir booklet from Spamalot. So that his sister won't feel left out at Christmas I plan on buying her something when I go to see Little Mermaid on November 14th.

Gorgeous day outside, and I have spent the day inside. To take a little break from BERLIN A., I decided to watch an episode of THE CLOSER (Season 2). This was the one where the Japanese mother dna daughter were fished out of the harbor. The actor playing the husband was SO convincing. Marvelous acting job.

Next came episode 7 of BERLIN A. Same seesaw video quality, but I have to admit the story is interesting. The main character goes through so many ups and downs and so you never know if he's going to to be cheered or damned.
I can see that this would have kept Germans riveted to their TVs in 1980 just like we were for ROOTS or RICH MAN, POOR MAN.

I have the original songbook and I always wondered why it only had THREE songs in it. :-\

George, mine arrived today.
Ooo!! There's hope! I'm at work, so I won't know until later this afternoon. :)

As for the Topic of the Day....
The one that comes to mind right now is "A Year In The Life". Richard Kiley, Brian Benben, Jayne Atkinson, Sarah Jessica Parker, etc., etc. This came out when I was in college, and there was a group of us who would get together to watch it each week. Great stories lines, wonderful acting, and some handsome actors too. ;)
Ooo... I had forgotten about that. That was a great show. But one thing I can remember about that show that really ticked me off was that the theme music for the pilot (a great piano piece) was really great. Then they changed it for the actual series. I have the music somewhere. But any rate, it was a good series. Thanks for bringing it up, Jose.

I did get quite a few things done today. I rearranged a couple things in the living room and like it a lot, but as a result had to move the bird feeder outside so I can see it. I put the screens in the gazebo. I didn't get them painted, but I want to put up the plastic around the gazebo tomorrow, so it will wait until spring. I also got all the outdoor furniture into the room in the basement and put up a new dryer vent cover so the cold air doesn't blow in anymore

Jane, hope you can take the anti inflamatories. It seems like there should be something you can take.
Thanks Cilla. I can’t tolerate aspirin, Advil, etc.
I took another one tonight, my second and possibly last one. It wasn't too bad on my stomach last night, and I don't mind the light headiness it gives me ;). What I mind is it is making my GERD worse.
Thing is, these reactions can become accumulatively worst, so I fear taking it too many days. I know the side effects won’t simply disappear once I stop taking the meds.
You would think by now someone would have produced anti-inflammatory meds without such horrendous side effects.
-

RE: last night's GHOST WHISPERER
SPOILERS

*
*
I liked the episode a lot although I found it unusual that they had mel and her hubby fighting. But i was glad that they had resolved things by the end.
I think the tone was more like the shows from past seasons. I find the storyline with her brother has made things quite different. He is such a dark character. And the show had mostly in the past just been about her helping people.
I think the whole med school idea came out of the blue for me. But i sort of like it. It could shake things up a bit.
-
FJL-Thanks for asking. i did receive that advice, which i suspected. i was told to take a pepcid complete instead of upping my regular med, but i forgot pepcid makes me sick. i took an extra dose of my GERD medication today and skipped the pepcid. at least i'm not extra sick from the pepcid ;D
-
Jane - Has your doctor ever suggested taking anti-inflammatories in conjunction with plenty of food or with antacids, or have you already tried that?
My experience is that pharmacists or nurses do better than doctors giving this kind of advice.

Season 12 of THE AMAZING RACE a nail-biter!
I cannot wait for tomorrow night. For those who watch on CBS it might be delayed due to football.
I'm hoping that CTV (the channel it is on in Canada) is still allowed to show it at 8pm (i think they are).

jennifer this isn't supposed to make me drowsy. it isn't bad but i sure shouldn't drive. ;D
-
Ok so it has taken me 8 months to get there. DP Colin and I watched and thoroughly enjoyed "Hot Fuzz" last night. (We had really enjoyed Shaun Of The Dead).
-
Oh speaking of AMAZING RACE. I've seen a couple of promos. And some of the teams look interesting. There are lesbian ministers. But they seem a bit older. And i just can't imagine an all women team that is older doing really well. Maybe they'll surprise me.
There is also another all blonde female team. They were wearing bikinis on the promo.
One team looks really scary. They call themselves (or are called) the goth team. I think they are both women. There names were weird letters like ZXNTDR. I don't know what we are supposed to call them. But one of them sort of looked like a woman but didn't sound like one. It was fast. But they ere so creepy. All in black. Really odd.
There was also a grandfather and grandson. I don't think we've had a combo like that before. IT will be interesting especially because of their ages.
-
DP Colin and I met out retired "Family Doctor" when we were doing our weekly shopping. He still walks 5k each day. He is about 90. He still has no problem with remembering medical issues from 25 years ago, our interests, hobbies etc.
When he retired from practice - (for the second time) at about 70 or so, it took up playing golf and learned to play the piano.
I like the three doctors who now have his Practice, but his style of "Doctoring" is sadly missed.
-
tomovoz-glad u enjoyed the movie :)

My ex was friends with her (he sublet her apartment when she was out of town filming a movie) in the early 80s so I got to meet her. We saw her on stage a few times here in the city. In 1983 we went to her summer place in Woodstock (she was renting it) and I hit her in the head with a tennis ball (I was VERY bad at tennis and never attempted to play again after that). She's a wonderful person. She's married now, IIRC to a television/film director and she has at least one child, I think.

I haven't seen Pamela in years, but she was born here in Tacoma. She used to perform at the Lakewood Playhouse (when Lakewood was still part of Tacoma) which I also have worked at many times. She is a wonderful lady and a fine actress, who a lot of people don't even recognize by name. However, bring up KINDERGARTEN COP, THE RIGHT STUFF, THE LONG RIDERS, or EYEWITNESS and people usually know who you are talking about. I didn't realize that she had moved to California, but I see she now has two adopted children, one of them is named Reed. I hope Reed doesn't also use her last name. I have never had the honor, or horror, of hitting her with a tennis ball.

"Murder at Hollywood High" has arrived!! Thanks, BK!! I wish I could read your handwriting, though. ::)
;D

Our family received some good news - Capt. Christopher N. Palmer, USAF, is back in Georgia after his 2nd deployment to Iraq. He's a search and rescue helicopter pilot.
That's wonderful news, Ginny!! :D

Plateau congrats, George.
Thanks, FJL. :) Now...on to 20,000!
-
Congrats to DRs GEORGE and CILLA LIZ on reaching their new plateaus.
And thank you!

Murder at Hollywood High arrived here as well, today. I will start it as soon as I finish my Charles McGraw bio.
Right now I am watching a 3 hour Bollywood movie (actually it is a Tollywood movie as it is in the Telugu language and was filmed in the Southern part of India...a whole other film industry from the Hindi films) titled SITARAMA KALYANAM (1963) which is about the demon Ravana and his battle with Lord Vishnu...although an hour into the movie and all of his battles so far have been with Lord Vishnu's wife Laxmi.
This movie has loooooooooooooooottttttttttsssss of songs...which is probably why it is 3 hours long.

Actually the only thing worse you could do than hit Pamela with a tennis ball, would be to remind her of her performance in CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR.

Great family news from DR Ginny!

Good Evening!
Back from dinner with my brother, Jay, his girlfriend, Maria, and their friend, Alma. Alma is also from San Diego, and she's also running in the marathon tomorrow. We ended up dining at John's Pizza. However, since Jay and Alma needed to carbo-load for their run(!) tomorrow, they ordered pasta and a large order of garlic bread. Maria also ordered some pasta. I, on the other hand, ordered the pizza. :)

CONGRATULATIONS to DRs Cillaliz and George on their new plateaus! :D
Thanks!

We haven't heard back from Penny O as to how her interview went.
Hopefully, no news (from her) is good news (for her)! :)

Today, along with "Murder at Hollywood High," I received the 2007 Broadway revival cast recording of 110 In the Shade. I'll take it to work on Monday. I don't think I'll have time to listen to it this weekend.
-
DR JoseSPiano - is it Mike or Jay that was planning to run tomorrow?
Jay.
And now that he knows how to send a text message to my cell-phone, I'll be getting updates on his progress every 5K. They use the "shoe chips" to not only keep track of the runners along the course, but also help to notify everyone's friends and family to make it easier for them to find them along the way - and to get a better estimate of when they'll be crossing the finish line.
*One thing my brother is not looking forward to is heading to his "finishing area" after he crosses the finish line. That's where they'll give him his medal as well as his personal belongings that he'll be checking at the starting corral. The finishing areas are arrangeed alphabetically. The "S" area is up at 86th Street. The finish line is at 72nd. He's really not looking forward to walking those 14 blocks in order to get his stuff - after having run the 26.2 miles. ;)
-
Good night, all. It is pill-poppin' time in Tacoma.
-
Well, I've got some TV watching, as well as some line memorization, to do. Tomorrow, I have to go to my sister's house by 10:00 am (which is much too early :P) to put together some metal shelves for her new shed. I went over earlier tonight after work, but it was too dark (she doesn't have a light in it) and my sister was baking something. The shelves are not difficult to put together, but it's a lot easier for two people to put them together than just one person...me. ;)
So, good night, all. 8)

It could be worse. It could be 14 of the long blocks.

Has anyone had English muffins from Wolferman's? We received their catalogue today & they look like the best english muffins.
The website doesn't look as tempting.
http://www.wolfermans.com
I've had them, and I like them. They are very substantial english muffins. They're about an inch thick, and sort of dense. They are carried in a lot of grocery stores, however, they're usually kept in the freezer case along with the other breakfast treats. -So you might be able to give them a try without having to mail order them.
-
Terrific Tom took twelve tiny tablets in Tacoma - say that ten times fast.

As for Daylight Savings Time ending tonight... My brother, Jay, is soooooo happy that he gets the extra hour tonight. :)

TOD:
The Julie Andrews Show - or did it make it for a whole season?
Wendy & Me - with George Burns & Connie Stevens, maybe one season.
Yes, THE JULIE ANDREWS HOUR did run for one entire season. ABC decided the show was too special to be weekly, and was renewed for two years of specials rather than as a weekly series.

Jeff cooked a wonderful Mexican dinner tonight. I thorouoghly enjoyed it, and I brought some home with me to heat up for tomorrow.

That makes it almost worth dying.
This is why I love you!

I finished disc 3 of BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ. In episode 8, we see for the third time the main character beating his girl friend to death. Each time we see a little more of the scene, but we sure do get the message and each little bit more doesn't make it any easier to watch.
The video look and quality doesn't make it easier to watch either.
-
I agree.
This from DRLaura? I am shocked. She musta e hanking arounnd me too much!
-
And I did find the time to watch tonight's TORCHWOOD. OK episode, but not one of my favorites of the series. John Barrowman was barely in it, and the story just wasn't that interesting. Gwen isn't my favorite team member anyway.

I always liked My World and Welcome To It starring William Windom...

I don't think I know from flop TV shows.

Floop shows?

I would watch a floop show.

Heading down to bed now.

Re opening verse of Meadowlark - I'm not talking about that verse that's never been part of the song - I don't even know what that is. I'm talking about the first verse of the song proper, which I've never heard done slowly (When I was a girl), but always in tempo. It certainly wasn't done slowly in the original, but I know they created this verse at some point, but that's not what I'M talkin' about. And, Todd Ellison and I came up with the opening chords to get into it, and I'd find it hard to believe that we'd just "happen" to come up with the same thing from some London version.
-
C'mon all you book buyers - READ it.
George, most of those scribbles were done while I was in bed with the light off.

Yes, I know you're talking about the first verse of the song ("When I was a girl...") not the intro-verse ("Who does he think he is?..."). The way the song stands now, the first verse is done slower - and without the rippling accompaniment. As for the intro chords... Well, they're based on the harmonies that start the song off... And what is it that they say about "Great Minds"? ;)
-
Oh... Now that I think of it, I think that opening verse-intro starts off "Who does he think I am?..."
-
In any case... Time for to go to bed.
Goodnight.
