Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a few apples and a few oranges, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're eating both apples and oranges and even a few figs - no, no, not figs - raisins - ah, liasons.
-
And the word of the day is: DUOLITERAL!
-
Good evening!!
I shall be the first to post on this lovely saturday!
-
Back from a fun but exhausting bossa nova gig. I sang "Reza", one of my all-time favorite Edu Lobo tunes, in Portuguese for the first time tonight and no one ran screaming from the room so I am calling it an unqualified success. :)
Tomorrow (today actually) is my big Pacific Pops concert, my 45 voice community choir for which I do all the vocal and orchestral arranging. All of the songs this time have something to do with time, so it should be fun, though exhausting yet again. So I will be sleeping all day Sunday after I get home from work. ;)

WOD: Oy!
-
DR Cillaliz - great news re: Callie! :D
DR Jane - hang in there! And thanks for the DR Danise updates.

Does an omnibus film [a film with many stories] necessarily have to present them sequentially, or can they be interwoven, as in Crash?

Seven guests, at 4:00 AM in the morning! [EST]

DR JoseSPiano, do you know if the stagehand's strike would affect the Radio City Christmas Spectacular?
-
Hmmm...
Australia's Middle8Music site appears to be selling a new 2-disc CD of unreleased Nancy LaMott recordings, "Ask Me Again", as well as a DVD of concert performances, "I'll Be Here With You." But no confirmation on the Midder Music site or on NancyLaMott.com!

TOD
Some of my favortie films were produced by Hammer and Amicus. Some of my favorites were Asylum, Tales From The Crypt, The House That Dripped Blood, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, amd others.

The latest news on the strike from Playbill On-Line
IATSE Strike (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/112681.html)

An exchange or full refund just doesn't make a difference to someone from out of town who has planned and paid to see a show, and now will not get to experience Broadway.
It's too bad that people have been working without a contract since July, and they can't get together to stop this strike....terrible.
-
TOD:
O. Henry's Full House
Dr Terror's House of Horrors - mentioned above by DR MICHAEL S
There were a couple of films of stories by W. Somerset Maugham, QUARTET was one of them.....
-
DR JMK - my name stuns many people.
-
DR MBARNUM I enjoyed my Bollywood fantasy movie very much....lots of color...and great dancing and songs!!! The story moved along pretty fast, but I think I got most of it.
-
I forgot to mention, I ordered the SITCOM book DR JoseSPiano mentioned from Amazon on Thursday and it arrived yesterday! And it looks pretty wondrous. :)
DR JRand57, there are no full-page shots of Ms. Messing.
And, I know I'm treading on thin ice here, but even though she mugs shamelessly, I still enjoy her on the screen. :P I'm not saying she's Lucille Ball, but I don't revile her as some DRs do!
-
Meeting a cousin in from a long shlep to see a show. I warned them of the possible strike, but they're opting to come in anyway.

DR Michael S:
The LaMott items I was mentioning have a little yellow "new" tag next to them:

Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 6:30 and I stayed in bed until 8:30 because I could today. This is my day to run any errands before the trip, and it's also Macbeth's birthday; I'm sure Lady M is sacrificing a child somewhere in my hometown to celebrate.
I have more work on the editorial guidelines today, a little bit of laundry at some point, and whatever else needs to be accomplished. Kip Wilborn sent me an email about some arrangements on Thursday but I haven't heard from him since. If he calls today, I'll meet with him as well.
TOD: DEAD OF NIGHT, I always liked the 1970s Amicus horror anthologies like "The House That Dripped Blood" and "Tales from the Crypt."
-
Hi folks! I'm typing this from my niece, Debi's computer. I made it safe and sound to Pittsburgh last night. It is cold but not as bad as I thought it would be. Kinda like a Florida cold.
TD. I told Debi that you and I would like to have a mini meeting and she said she would be glad to take me where ever. I will be calling you after we visit Mom's grave. We will be going there in just a little while.

Lazy bones!
Today would have been my Mom's 89th birthday.
-
I can't believe that I slept on the plane ride up. I had a window seat but there really was't anything to see because we were in clouds most of the way up.
-
Today would have been my Mom's 89th birthday.
How nice, then, DR Danise, that you can visit your mother's grave today.
-
Please give DR td a hug and a smooch from ALL of us! :)
-
I will. I'm so looking forward to meeting another HHW member. I've been telling Debi how wonderful you all are.
-
DR Elmore, I hope you have a peaceful trip.
-
DR Elmore, I hope you have a peaceful trip.
Thanks, DR Danise! I'm pretty sure it will peaceful only if the Macbeths have nothing to do with it.
I'm happy to hear you've arrived safely. I think you should look at real estate while you're there.
-
Good morning!
I was surprised that it wasn't any colder than it was this morning. Of course, I slept until 8, so the relative lateness of the hour was partly to blame for the warmer than expected outside temps.
A full day of inside events today. And late tonight, I'll start unhooking various cables from the back of the old receiver to get ready for the install tomorrow - a major upgrade but a major pain as well.
-
DR Elmore and I agree once more. I think DEAD OF NIGHT is probably the best omnibus film. And like DR JRand, I also love O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE.
I loved O. Henry's stories when I was a student, and I adored teaching them years later.
-
First up viewing wise today will be catching up with the last 50 minutes of GHOST WHISPERER from last night. I also want to see MOONLIGHT. I'll more than likely watch both of these while preparing and eating lunch.
-
Tonight I'll be watching the Blu-ray disc of Pixar's Animated Shorts Collection. I watched the SD-DVD last week, and I'm thinking the high def versions will look astounding, but I'm not anticipating any advance in the audio tracks for the Blu-ray nor do I anticipate any new bonus material, unlike RATATOUILLE and CARS which both added a ton of bonus features for the high def releases of the films.
-
Of course, there's a new TORCHWOOD tonight, too, which I'll also be watching after its 9 p.m. airtime on BBC-America.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And, yes, I'm back from the gym. I've done my six days in a row this week, and tomorrow is my day off (from the gym). :) *And since I decided to keep running on the treadmill for a bit longer than planned, I'm sure my body will appreciate the day of rest. -And I think I'm even going to treat myself to a massage. :)
-
As for the IATSE-Local 1 Strike... Well, as in all theses case - but especially this one - both sides have valid points, and both sides also have some "puzzling" requests/demands (at least my observer's standpoint). Frankly, I don't think this strike will last too long - there's just too much money being lost for both sides.
As for the people who have come into town this weekend to see a show, well... I hope that they're able to catch one of the remaining eight shows that are still open. Or even venture to see some of the off- and off-off-Broadway fare. -Some of which is a lot better than some of the stuff running ON the Great White Way.
-
DR singdaw - Radio City is not affected by the Strike. For now, at least. There have been some "rumbles" about some sympathy/solidarity strikes - even in regards to the current tours that are out right now - but I think those would only come to fruition if the strike here in NYC were to go on for weeks, causing IATSE to use it's whole membership as a bargaining tool.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Even though my hair appointment isn't until 11:30, my internal alarm clock went off at exactly the same time as my real one would have on a workday. Fortunately, the "snooze" on my internal clock was operational, and I slept in until 7:30.
DR Danise - I'm thinking about you today. Glad you're in Pittsburgh with family and that you'll get to meet DR td. I agree with DR Elmore on the real estate thing - you're only about a 6-hour drive from here!
-
DR Danise - :) I hope - well, I know - that you will have quite a lovely weekend surrounded by friends and family, both old and new.
-
I guess I'll head down now and get an early start to today's viewing. Will start on lunch preparation later.
WBBL.
-
As for alarms - Well, mine went off at 7:25, but I didn't put my feet on the floor until a little after 8:00. -But I was in the gym by 8:25! :)
-
Off to get my hair permed. Pray for Rosemary's baby.
Bye for now!
-
And the word of the day is: DUOLITERAL!
When we TALLIED OUR lists of anagrams, we found that none of us could make a strictly DUOLITERAL anagram of the word DUOLITERAL - the best any of us could come up with was "LO, I RUT ED. LA!" which sounded rude.
-
DR singdaw - That "new" Nancy Lamott compilation has been in the works for a while. Jonathan Schwartz (of WNYC) and David Friedman have been dealing with right's issues, timing, contracts, etc. - as well as the Midder Music business mess.
I don't think it's available for sale stateside - at least not legally - (although, who knows, Colony Music may have it ;)), but maybe they were able to work out overseas distribution rights.
-
Of course, there's a new TORCHWOOD tonight, too, which I'll also be watching after its 9 p.m. airtime on BBC-America.
Oooh! Thanks for the reminder! Der B and I still haven't watched last week's episode, due to our being away partying away.
(And we're behind on a few other shows as well. :o)
-
Good morning, everyone.
I'm still way behind in the posts.
I'm glad to see that despite DR ELMORE's STRESS he still retains his WICKED WIT.
Pleased to see that DR DANISE arrived safely, if sleepily.

JMK, any bootlegs of your recent musical forays?

It's glorious outside today. What a perfect day to shop for stoves!
I just discovered one of the problems with our current Jenn-Air when we tried to cook biscuits this morning. Only the top heating element works, so while the biscuits were well-done on the top, the bottom wasn't brown at all! And no, it wasn't set on broil. One more reason to get a new stove!
-
When we TALLIED OUR lists of anagrams, we found that none of us could make a strictly DUOLITERAL anagram of the word DUOLITERAL - the best any of us could come up with was "LO, I RUT ED. LA!" which sounded rude.
Actually, a bi-lingual French/English man driving with Amy blurted out:
Allo, Edi--RUT!!!
-
Call me crazy (and who amongst you hasn't), but I'm finding I prefer progressive scan off with HDTVs. I never really liked it with our Sharp Aquos and I outright hate it on with the Samsung. For some reason the LCD technology doesn't "like" progressive scan and every few seconds things get a little blurry or the brightness changes.
-
Then again, I guess it could be the DVD player, but it's a fairly high end Sony. Maybe it's their revenge for Beta.
-

Of course I asked her if we would all be bringing our cameras, and we are going to take pictures, and hopefully post them later this evening.

JMK, any bootlegs of your recent musical forays?
Lordy, Lordy, I'm already in enough trouble around here without providing bootlegs. ;)

Hmmm... I wonder how fast I could get to Pittsburgh today?
;)

And, I'd bring some Levain cookies, of course. ;D

Well, instead of heading to Pittsburgh this afternoon :-\, I will be heading down to Union Square with my roommate, Jim, his boyfriend and his father (Jim's father that is - he's visiting this weekend). We're gonna be grabbing some brunch some place - maybe just pick and choose from the Green Market offerings - and then do some shopping. I'm pretty sure I'll just be observing the shopping today, although, since we'll be in the vicinity of the Chocolate Show, well... And J&R's Classical CD Department is also having it's grand-reopening today, and they're "celebrating" with a department-wide sale, so... We shall see.
-
Oh... OK.
Laters...
-
Quick! Call JetBlu!
Well, if you were to call for me, well... ;)

Marvelous Matt just came by mid-post. I, of course, thought it was the guys outside selling firewood, and yelled out the window, "Don't need firewood." He was here with my bill. It came in just a few dollars less than the number I was hoping it'd be. For all he did this was a BARGAIN.
And, of course, there was one "And while you're here, could you fix..." Which he did.
The house looks wonderful. when I have a few minutes I'll try to post some pics.
-
I have a request for any DR who can help me: I need a cassette tape transfwrred to CD, no time limit, no pressure. Menotti's wonderful OLD MAID AND THE THIEF has never been inssued on CD and I have a great cassette of it with Judith Blegen and John Reardon. Does anyone have the means to accomplish this? Thanks!
-
Thanks, DR JoseSPiano. Yes, I knew the LaMott stuff had been "in the works" for years; I was just surprised to see it apparently actually available, not having heard about them from any of the usual sources lately.
And Entertainment Weekly solved another mystery - the move Diva is apparently being re-released to theatres on its 25th anniversary, hence the media noise about it.
-
Well, if you were to call for me, well... ;)
I'm always on call for you. . .but if you need me to let my fingers do the walking. . .
I'm just saying'. . .

une chambre en ville arrived today! Yippee! :) Thanks, bk.

I spoke to David Friedman. You can order the new Nancy LaMott's from Australia but they won't be available to ship until Mid February

Thanks, DR ArnoldMBrockman! Perhaps they'll be less expensive when available in the US.

CD from BK today!! Bruce, as a lifelong (well, nearly) Michel Colombier fan, a small but powerful niche for good, thanks so much for releasing this.
-
In the "what the Hades are those icicles doing in here?" department: Elmore, check you email.
Done and replied.
-
DR Jeanne - I hope you take a moment to bask in the success of completion & accomplishment! :)
Ha! I told myself I'd take some time off--I did so, but spent three or four days just catching up on errands and laundry!
You're quite right about the SHOULD part, though. Why is having a balanced life so difficult??
Don't mind me--I'm just worn out!
-
Really looking forward to the new CD.
-
I think I'll go take a nap.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
If I take a nap, the doggies climb on top of me.
Sounds like a good idea.
-
Besides, I've got dinner to think about.
And Claiborne's memoir to finish.
And MaHH to read.
(A letter to my Dad and Step-Mom has already been written and sent.)

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I slept until ten, which was a very nice thing to do.
I, too, agree that this strike will be over very soon. A few years ago a similar strike happened on B'way with the Musician's Union - after all the posturing and positioning of both sides, the producers got what they wanted and then threw a few carrots to the union, although they were not the carrots the union was fighting for. But everyone got to say they'd won something - it was a toss-up really, but that's the one thing they didn't say.
I think the one thing we know about unions is that they have to publicly and to their membership trumpet loud and clear that they won. And I say that as a member of many unions.

Let me see...omnibus movies...I am also thinking my favorite would be one of those Amicus films, namely ASYLUM.

Well, the interview that was postponed from earlier this week got postponed until tomorrow morning...so since I had this morning free I built a new TV stand. It is actually a sideboard that I got from Target, but it works for all of my media just wonderfully...I simply did not install the wine rack into the unit.
It looks like this:

My living room is now a horrible mess...extra parts from the sideboard, cardboard, foam, tools, and whatnot are flung from one side of the room to the other. But I am gonna cuddle up with Bosco and read a book so that I will be well rested for my outing later today......
-
Very nice, DR MBarnum! I didn't know you were so handy with tools.
-
...which will be having an early Japanese dinner in Beaverton with my friends Jim, and Wes and Chris...after dinner the four of us will be seeing the new Bollywood movie OM SHANTI OM which is playing at the Valley Theatre...it is supposed to be quite a hit film and this weekend is the big release weekend for it all over the world (or wherever finer Bollywood films are shown).
The film stars the newly buff Shah Ruk Khan, who I know DR TD is familiar with!

I just read that Norman Mailer has died (http://www6.comcast.net/entertainment/articles/2007/11/10/Obit.Mailer/?cvqh=itn_normanmailer)[/b]. He was 84. Reading the article, Wow...talk about a life lived!

Hi DotM. :) Do you have any pets?
-
Nice sideboard, Mike. Glad you found something you're happy with for your media cabinet. I shopped for something some years ago, but just couldn't find anything suitable. I eventually had something built in, which worked out nicely, but I simply couldn't find anything "off the shelf." Yours is indeed a "find."

Well, it just means that the scalers built into your HDTV do a better job of deinterlacing those enhanced DVDs than the DVD player does. Lots of people prefer to let their TVs do that job. Not that unique at all.
-

Watched three wonderful television programs today, all from last night's schedule. I began with GHOST WHISPERER, a wonderful episode with Melinda dealing with a fake psychic. A really good mystery with a surprising conclusion.
-
Page Five Harry Potter Dance!!!
-
Even better was last night's MOONLIGHT with Mick seeing a woman who was the spitting image of his long dead vampire-wife. Superb episode with surprises that went through the entire hour.
-
DR elmore, maybe we can win her over with kindness.
-
And WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB had me in tears by the end, the best-yet episode that this series has produced. I have liked the show since it started, but I think it's found its groove now and should hum along nicely. It's also now the highest rated show on Friday nights.
-
My cousin from Scranton, PA and her 7-year-old daughter could - of course - not see Little Mermaid today, so we hied ourselves over to Radio City Music Hall, where the three of us caught the Christmas Spectacular. This was a major overhaul from last year, felt like about 75% new or rethought segments. Even the Nativity segment felt very different, but the camels and sheep are still there.
-
I'm wondering if I will be seeing Little Mermaid on Wednesday. I have a ticket but I just watched most of the news conference by the League and it doesn't sound like things will be over by Tuesday.

I've got to get der Brucer roused, if we're going to get to the store. I pulled a pork tenderloin out of the freezer, but need goodies to go with it.
I just won't tell him it's teriyaki glazed. He keeps saying he hates hates hates teriyaki. ::)

just skip page 6 guys, it's a waste of time

I am NOT going to skip page six! I was going to ask if DR Noel is feeling better!

it's also Macbeth's birthday; I'm sure Lady M is sacrificing a child somewhere in my hometown to celebrate.

My first laugh of the day!!!
Let's hope the knife slips, shall we?

The royal "we" does. . .

I could be more familiar if the opportunity arose. ;)

I did not hob nob with candidates today, I may do that tomorrow.
Today I spent the day with my mother and father. They came to visit for the first time in ages. They hadn't seen the office and wanted to do some shopping. So we went to Olive Garden for lunch and then to the mall - It was a total zoo, there were some special sales going on and the place was packed. Then we went to Sam's Club so mom could stock up on food. Then to Culver's for a frozen custard sundae and then they dropped me off and headed back home. It was a nice day.
-
Tomorrow temperatures are going to be very variable. At least that's what they just said on the news.
-
Seriously, folks. . .
I met a perfectly marvelous girl this afternoon, HHW's own DR Danise.
We met outside of Borders in The Pittsburgh Mills, that humongous shopping mall, a few miles from my home.
After a couple of quick photos outside, we ventured into the cafe, with DR Danise's niece, Debbie, where we drank coffe, chai lattes and caramel lattes while devouring asiogo pretzels, EggNog loaf cake and GingerBread Cheesecake - my hips are wider already!
Then we perused the aisles, where I found a copy of Terry Pratchett's novel MASKERADE, which I think she will love, since she is a big POTO fan - and Pratchett nails POTO, LES MIZ and many other stage musicals.
Then off to the cookbook aisle to peruse many, many cookbooks - enough cookbooks to get Da Niece down onto the floor to read.
Then we took an amazing journey through the mall itself, stopping in various an sundry stores - San Francisco Music Box, i.e - and along the way found a brand new store which will only be open for the season selling used dvds $6.99 each or 3 @ $18.00 - so many dvds were purchased. DR Danise bought me a copy of DR Charles Pogue's HERCULES, and I (and DR Danise) also bough THE THORN BIRDS, and two French & Saunders dvds.
I truly enjoyed being with these lovely ladies and I sincerely hope that DR Danise will return to the burgh, soon, and that we can really get together and paint the town!

I have a ticket to the symphony tonight, but I really don't feel like going. I haven't gone once this year. Apparently neither have many other people. Attendance is way down. Tonight is the rat pack music with soloists singing (don't know if they are impersonating) the rat pack. Honestly, I'd rather go listen to the symphony play something more traditional.
A friend of mine was Frank Sinatra's photographer in the early 60s. He's going to show his photos tonight, so that may be worth seeing.
-
Great Photos, thanks TD!
-
DR Danise - you look VERY prepared for cold weather ;)

Very nice photos, TD and Danise and Danise's niece, Debbie. :)

DR Cillaliz, it's my friend Sal Viviano performing. Go!

DR td, love the photos of you, DR Danise, and niece. What a great day for all of you.
DR Ginny, you have to find out for me where the nearest equivalent around Middletown is to the late CD place near the mall. CD Connection, was that its name?
-
DR Cillaliz, it's my friend Sal Viviano performing. Go!
Yes, Sal is one of the performers listed....Ok. That's a good enough reason for me. It doesn't start until 8:00 PM so I have plenty of time to get there.
-
And Sal and his wife, Liz Larsen (who recently starred in DR Noel's show for NYMF) have recorded several songs for BK! :D
-
OK, OK, I'm going! If I get a chance, I will say hello from elmore and BK...Glad I mentioned this, now I really DO want to go...better start getting ready

There are SO many different options that you can choose! You can make it sort of look like almost anyone. And you can collect points or coins or something like that and get some more advanced options...I didn't. This is all free. :)
I don't know how long I'll keep it, though. ;)

Well, I need to leave work (the building is closing and I don't have a key or the code ::)). I'm ushering a little bit later tonight for the Capital City Jazz Band Festival (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/calendar/calendar_detail.asp?event_id=958). It should be quite fun!

DR Ginny, you have to find out for me where the nearest equivalent around Middletown is to the late CD place near the mall. CD Connection, was that its name?
CD Connection isn't out by the mall anymore? Sheesh, I spend so little time here in town and rarely shop here. Anyway, I think they still have a store up around Dayton Mall. And, on Brown St., near the University of Dayton, there's a place called Second Time Around, where I've found some good things. Their selection is best at the end of UD's semesters - might be a little early when you're here next week.
And, in the Cincinnati phone book, I just found a place down by King's Island called Spin Again Music.
-
DR td - loved the photos and your report on shopping with Danise and her niece.
-
Yes, Sal is one of the performers listed....Ok. That's a good enough reason for me. It doesn't start until 8:00 PM so I have plenty of time to get there.
Nat Chandler's also performing in the concert. He and Jason Graae were in my first showcase TALES OF TINSELTOWN and Nat never returbned my vocal score to WEST SIDE STORY. I've never forgiven him.

Curly-top here got home in time to see the second half of the Michigan-Wisconsin game, which turned out badly for the Wolverines. Something possessed me to then tune into the Ohio State-Illinois game, which turned out even worse (more at stake) for the Buckeyes. Next week will be the first time since 1959 that Michigan and Ohio State will meet having lost the week before. And the Buckeyes were not gracious losers, I'm just sayin'...

It's freezing in this apartment! We haven't had heat in the building for the past 10 days and all the neighbors are up in arms with the landlord for neither notifying us when the boiler work began nor for taking so long to repair the damned thing.
-
Back from various and sundried things. Got packages shipped, did some other stuff, and am not seeing Little Fish this evening due to a communications error. I'll see it next weekend.
-
Like Larry, I am distrustful of DotM and am also not convinced it's a woman. It was the post that drew "her" out (and which I made for a specific reason) that was so telling. Three posts later, "she" was outski but keeps returning to see if I'm making similar posts. I can, of course, just for fun.
-
So, now I don't know exactly what to watch this evening.

I was supposed to get Ratatouille today, but that got pushed until tomorrow - a shame as I would have enjoyed that tonight.

warm apartment vibes for dr elmore.

FREE TICKET OFFER
Anyone interested in either 1 or 2 free tickets for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for tomorrow's (Sunday's) 1 pm matinee? They're really good seats, 15th row, row PP 500's section. You just have to pick up the tickets here before noonish.
(While I loved the show, having just seen it today with my cousins, I'm going to wait a few weeks before seeing it again.)
-
If only I could, DR FJL.
-
Good Evening!
...We ended up having a nice brunch down at Coffee Shop at Union Square. It's a cool, funky place - and always packed and bustling. Thankfully, the wait for a table wasn't too long, and our food came out of the kitchen not too long after we placed our order. I opted for for the Eggs Ipanema - which was basically a Brazilian version of Eggs Benedict, although, I'm still trying to figure out what type of sauce was on top - I detected coconut in it, I think. In any case, it was good. Then...

Great, Jose! Just dress warm for the very-much-publicized indoor snowstorm. :)
Give a call when you're on your way over tomorrow.

Then...
I headed up a few blocks to 890 Broadway to play a few hours of rehearsal for White Christmas. The stage manager had called me just as I was leaving the apartment this afternoon asking if I was available to come in this afternoon.. And since I was heading down to Union Square anyway to have brunch, I figured it was meant to be. :)
*DR elmore - Maybe they could funnel some of the heat from the 4th floor of 890 Broadway to your apartment - it was HOT in there.

Yep, apparently, they did quite a bit of updating for this year's edition. -I'm looking forward to my "star". :)
-
It could have been you, too, DR Jose! ;)
Well, I guess the courier with my round-trip tickets to and from Pittsburgh got lost on the way to my apartment. I hope you can get a refund.

I am watching Paula Deen and Kermit make fried pumpkin cake.
I saw that episode of "Paula's Party" last night, and, frankly, I don't think that Fried Pumpkin Cake is something I'd ever make. I may eat it, but I'd never make it. ;)

I did miss the "Everybody's Waiting for the Man with a Bag" number by Mrs. Claus from the past several years, though.
And, apparently, if you went to one of their invited dress rehearsals earlier in the week, they had a couple of other things "missing" and/or "added" throughout show. My friend showed me the rehearsal report, and I don't think ever seen such a list before in my life. ;D

At least two that I know of. . .

DR Matt:
Last week you were asking why Torchwood had an episode that had almost nothing of Captain Jack, and for that matter almost nothing of most of the regulars (except for Gwen).
We caught the episode earlier this evening, and I can understand your confusion. It was a mirror of two episodes of Doctor Who, "Love and Monsters" in the second series and "Blink" in the third. What producer Russel T. Davies discovered was that there was too much of a time crunch to get all the stories produced in time, requiring too much of his stars. So, he included a story in the second season that only marginally involved the Doctor (and Rose) to afford his cast and crew the time they needed... and the trick worked. He pulled it off the second time by... well, that would require spoilers.
So, Davies pulled it off again with "Random Shoes," basically a story involving Gwen with a character named Eugene Jones, a stand-alone story told from Eugene's POV. Given the big special effects stories to come towards the end of the series, this gives the rest of the cast and crew the time to get their work done.
(And, spoiler time... yes, the last stories, from what I've come across, have a lot going on, special effects-wise and otherwise.)
-
The numbers that seemed basically unchanged form previous years were the 3-D opening, Rockettes Wooden Soldiers sequence, and what I think of as the thousands of Santas appearing dance. and some aspects of the dancing dolls in the Nutcracker section. At least to my memory, anyway. The rest seemed new or rethought in some way.
-
i had two bowls of baskin robbins ice cream tonight and i'm stuffed. it was soooo good, half chocolate & half chocolate chip.

In the "it's a small world" department, I had an email from our niece Jen about her husband's actor cousin, Greg Wooddell. Jen thought we'd be interested in what he's doing - Cymbeline at Lincoln Center. I just emailed her the comments DRs Elmore and Ben made earlier this week about the show.
-
...And I was actually thinking of catching Cymbeline tonight... But since I got called into rehearsal... And since it was one of the two remaining Broadway shows available on TKTS today... I didn't think my chances of getting a cheap seat were going to be that good.
-
Also, DR Jose, your mention of White Christmas reminded that I noticed yesterday that it's playing at La Comedia, our local dinner theatre. Wonder if we should go?
-

OH! I guess you are in La Comedia Land! -Or "La Chlamydia" as some of us so lovingly refer to it as. ;) I've come "this close" to working there a few times, and the staff there are regulars at the SETC conferences I play ever year. In fact, my roommate, Megan, was there last season for Footloose.

LOL! Now I'll have to concentrate very hard NOT to call it La Chlamydia!

I've made 3 posts here - and in none of them have I claimed to be a woman. Oh...I see where you got that idea now....carry on.
I've made 3 posts here - and have been quite frank about my disgust each time. What' s not to trust?

I am quite thrilled that I managed to find 4 of my friends that would go to a Bollywood movie with me!! I hope they are still friends afterwards!
So.... Are you taking one or two cars? ;)

Almost time for MAD Tv.

Larry - Are you talking about after the living Nativity? They ended with a popped-up version of "Joy to the World."
No, the Santa's Workshop Finale.

Mr Wooddell has biceps that would send DR MBarnum into a coma, and he's quite wonderful as one of the two stolen sons of the king. I think our Bollywood Baby would love CYMBELINE.
DR Jose, Curtis says they're still making changes and cuts in the show so I'm glad I saw it when I did. Tickets are available on the TDF website for $28.00 right now.
-
LOL! Now I'll have to concentrate very hard NOT to call it La Chlamydia!
I had a major role in their first production. In fact, La Chlamydia is one of the man reasns I moved to New York. If I had a chance to see WHITE CHRISTMAS there, I'd stay home and listen to the CD. Unless, of course, I knew someone in the production.
-
Larry - I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember (from just seven hours ago, believe it or not) how they ended the Santa's Workshop segment musically, except for the spelling out of the letters (another holdover form prior years that i now remember as a welcome holdover) and - SPOILER
that it now involves the resolution of a plotline with two young brothers, the older of which hadn't discovered the meaning of Christmas but at the end of the Santa's workshop section has discovered that you don't choose the gift, the gift chooses you. This seemed very different from all the times I've seen the show before.
But the Santa's workshop and reindeer sequence from prior years had been one of my favorites - exciting to know that you had been involved in those.
-

I guess that I won't be seeing any repayment from the broadcast!

I've made 3 posts here - which have mysteriously disappeared. If your actions with the agent and the actress weren't so abhorrent, and my comments on them so laughable, why not leave them around for kicks and giggles? Why delete them?
The ability to delete posts is limited to the person who made the posts, and the Administrator. BK is not the Administrator. He cannot delete posts.
I've made 3 posts here - and in none of them have I claimed to be a woman. Oh...I see where you got that idea now....carry on.
In your profile, you say that you are female.
I've made 3 posts here - and have been quite frank about my disgust each time. What' s not to trust?
Well, there's the fact that you have not let us know anything about yourself, where you are coming from. We, as an internet community, are very open about ourselves. We hold conversations, give background information, ask and answer questions. Since you do not behave in a manner similar to the rest of our community, even though you have had plenty of time to do so, we tend to be suspicious.
You do realize that all I have to do is log out and you wouldn't even know I was here reading, don't you? ::)
And yet, here you are. This suggests that you want to have your presence known.
What is it that makes you so needy?

It IS the Beta vs. VHS problem all over again, and at this point, there is no way to tell how it will end or IF it will end with either side winning (could be that each side just becomes a small niche market a la laserdisc).
If you have an HDTV, you can connect the high definition players through the component jacks (red-blue-green). At this point, you can get full high def through both the component and the HDMI ports, so you don't need HDMI to enjoy high def technology. You just need the proper cables, the machine, and the discs.

DR S Woody,
I did mention last week that Captain Jack wasn't in much of the episode, but it was DR Jennifer who didn't understand how the star of the show could be absent from much of the show. I understand that the show is going to feature one character more prominently each week than the others. I have no problem with it. As Captain Jack is my favorite character, of course I miss him when he's not there, but I had no problem with it and didn't mean to imply otherwise.

My error. Please accept my appology.
No problem. I appreciate the explanation, and I'm sure Jennifer will too when she sees it.
-
Dear DotM - you obviously want your presence known, if not, log off, as you say.
My "abhorrent" behavior was nothing of the sort - the actress and the agent in question made statements and sent e-mails that were abhorrent - I merely reacted to them in the best way I know how - I could not in good conscience recommend that person for a job, and I didn't. And that is what abhorrent behavior nets you - it's why you should be careful of what you put out there. Why would I EVER recommend anyone who had made a statement about me that I found disgusting. I wouldn't, I didn't, and I won't. If you find that abhorrent, that is your problem, not mine.

In Photobucket, there's a tab to "create avatar" and it's pretty cool!
I have played with that many times and I have several more I can change into for here.
That is where I made this one and I believe derBrucer has played with it also.

DR DearReaderLaura - So... Just how do you talk to the animals? -Or at least get them to pose for you? :)
-
Seriously, folks. .
Great photos of you, DR DAnise and her neice. It appears all three of you had a grand time.

I began my evening of viewing with the Blu-ray of the Pixar Shorts Collection which I had watched in SD-DVD last week. As I suspected, there was no extra material on the disc, only that all 13 of the shorts and the "making of" documentary were now all in high definition. Oh, my, in high def they do look impressive. "Geri's Game" was especially gorgeous in high def, and the original 3-D "Knick Knack" actually looked very close to 3-D in high def.
-
HEY!
You didn't tell me that DR Danise also got to meet Martin Mull today too!
:D
-
Next, I put in UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE. How marvelous to see it again after all these years. Simply loved it. The film never looked great, and the DVD pretty much looks the way I remember it. Was it my player, or was there some kind of artifact that resembles a small moth flying around during some scenes? I'll try it in a different player the next time I watch it to see if I see that white fleck flitting around.
-
And then I watched tonight's TORCHWOOD. One of the best episodes of the season. Very moving, lovely, gut-wrenching performances from many of the cast. How sorry I felt for some of them!
-
I sneak up on them, DR Jose.
-
DR Elmore, thank you so much for telling me to go tonight. It was a lot of fun. The comedy part of it sort of fell flat, not a lot of energy or something, but the vocals were wonderful. There was close to a full house, which is rare for our symphony this year. They got the longest ovation I've heard for a symphony performance.
-
SWW, that is what I thought also when I watched them.

I talked to Sal after the show. He says hello to both elmore and BK. He asked how I knew the two of you and I said "Haines His Way" He said "Ah, of course". I bought Sal's CD and he signed it for me. It's a compilation of his live performances
Elmore, I didn't talk to Nat Chandler and didn't buy his CD. He did a good job too.

Furthermore, we don't post anonymously around here, we're not those sorts. This isn't broadwayworld or talkinbroadway. Also, we all know when you showed up, and some of us knew you were not a woman. It's a little peculiar, don't you think, to show up every day to a site where you find the host "abhorrent" and you obviously don't care to have any interaction with anyone else. One suspects what one suspects and I'm not the only one who suspects it. Feel free to lurk to your heart's content, though, whether by "name" or as a lurker. One thing I do have the ability to do, however, is ban - I've only done it once in the entire time of this site, however.
-
Lovely photo Laura... I really do enjoy seeing them.
-
bk, will there be a cd relating to the recent fundraiser?
-
Has anyone heard from TCB or Francois lately?
-
Dakota, no, we couldn't get it together in time to record.
-
There is always a pleasant treat I look forward to on HHW and that is Laura's photographs. Beautiful!
-
I was curious... :)
-
DotM is back and logged in, too. :)

Thanks.
-
Surprisingly with my hearing troubles, I actually have an easier time listening to Musicals and stuff. I can actually hear the singing.
-
OH joy!!
-
DotM was on this afternoon also
-
I am debating what cd I want DBF to buy me for christmas. He told me to choose one... One thing... There are too many to chose from!

Might I suggest a lovely gemstone of some kind?
Oh, you said cd. Darn.

I'm going to write for a bit and then head downstairs to bed. Big day tomorrow with that installation of the new receiver. I'll probably be on-line early and then spend the rest of the morning dealing with cables, wires, speakers, and other electronics.
Good night!
-
bk, my workstudy students at hte library have adopted the Brain Tap as their whistle while the work tune. One gal has become quite interested in your recordings and I gave her your website.
-
errr Laura, he has hinted at that in the future
-
Laura, he has been looking....
-
Gotta love trolls...
-
It's just funny - DotM arrived on or about September 30, just as the NYMF Brain was coming to an end. He has been here steadily ever since - and we've had many lively discussions during that entire time - yet none of those lively discussions were worthy of him - just my one little post stating that karma is a potent thing.
-
I'd better turn in for the night. Tomorrow is another workday.
And I'd better make sure Dixie, my boss, knows I don't have any problem with working on Thanksgiving. Anything is better than going to der Brucer's daughter's and sampling her cooking. :P
-
This is positively painful to listen to...
The chinese version of YMCA
http://www.hostropolis.com/april/mp3/cantoymca.mp3 (http://www.hostropolis.com/april/mp3/cantoymca.mp3)
-
bk, I also find it rather peculiar that DotM has not been involved in any discussions. They have ranged from serious to lighthearted.
-
The chinese version of YMCA is almost as bad as a video clip of the USSR REd Army Choir doing Sweet Home Alabama
And that was odd
-
OK... Me sleepy...
Goodnight.
-
Good night Jose!
-
I just watched a Bollywood movie from Netflix. Funny, though strained at times, and a finale with quads, motorcycles, guns and gals, desert sands and loads of mischief. Quite fun, though not one of the better films I've seen from India. . .
Deewane Huye Paagal features Sunil Shetty, Ashkay Kumar, Vivek Oberoi and the loveliness of Rimi Sen and Shahid Kapur.
One musical number is a travelogue of Hollywood (yes, THAT Hollywood) sights; it features the sight of Shahid Kapur for those with no interest in scenery.
-
I've always said "Hello" to any newbie I've seen online on the most popular site on the internet: HainesHisWay.
And a shout-out, with props, to the esteemed BK, for providing the opportunity for such a diverse bunch of people to meet, not only here online, but in the so-called real world.
Thank you, DR Danise for making that call this afternoon!
-
DR elmore, maybe we can win her over with kindness.
Jane, you really do need to read some Norman Mailer to help you grasp the conspiracies around us.
der Brucer
-
- my hips are wider already!
Wonderful - Martin Mull with child-bearing hips :D
der Brucer
-
Please accept my appology.
One "p" is sufficient.

I dont think I had any misspelled words today...
-
Anyone heard from Francois or TCB?

Maybe Dark of the Moon is on KP duty. (Karma Police)
der Brucer
-
I know TCB has had pain issues and I do hope he is okay.
-
I thought KP was where you were stuck in the kitchen peeling potatoes or scrubbing pots
-
I dont think I had any misspelled words today...
Well, since you brought it up, you've misspelled Chinese twice today. (Capital "C" required)
der Brucer
-
AAAACK!!!!!!!!
-
DerBrucer, what would we do without ya.....
I hope MBarnum finds the song I posted on an earlier page. Are you familiar with Salma and Sabina?
-
OM SHANTI OM was a wonderful film! Jim and I enjoyed it very much...I think Wes liked it...I don't think Chris was that crazy about it...I am not sure he knew what to expect.
The dance numbers were spectacular and the plot was a lot of fun. TD if you get the chance to see it I know you will love it too! One of the funnest films I have seen in many a moon.
-
I have never heard of Salma and Sabine, DR Dakotacelt.
-
I posted a song clip of them covering ABBA on either page 7 or 8
