And the word of the day is: DEIPNOSOPHIST!Peter Palmeri, the Polynesian pole vaulter, often found himself dining alone - he would have dined with many a pulchritudinous pretty, but his POISONED PITHS too often kept him from being a DEIPNOSOPHIST.
DR Danise, Weight Watchers seems to have worked out very well for our E&T DR Jason!Maybe I shall have to give it a try if just cutting my meals in half and the treadmill don't work.
And the word of the day is: DEIPNOSOPHIST!
Thanks so much for the travel wishes and thoughts for the memorial for my cousin.
think of me...
How's the weather in Pittsburgh, DR DanisesNiece?
Welcome, DR Da'Niece! We have heard so many lovely things about you and we're so glad you've decided to join the fun!
At any rate....I'm hosed.
<SNARK>
Thanks for the tip on the new Holmes books, DR td. Are they as good as Nicholas Meyer's two wonderful books?
In any case...
I'm about to head back over to Steve's. He has some shopping to do today - as do I now that I think of it. And then we'll be heading to his sister's house tonight for yet another Thanksgiving gathering. I'm looking forward to seeing his clan again, especially his mother since her health issues seem to be resolving themselves quite nicely recently. She's even playing piano again apparently! We may also catch a movie this afternoon if time and craziness permits.
I'm trying to decide if DR Ron Pulliam means this:
Or this:
DR FJL - on last night's Numb3rs the character played by Wil Wheaton was Miles Sklar, the wealthy comic mogul. It took a while to see any resemblance to Wesley Crusher and DH Richard was surprised when I pointed it out.
Danise-
We Know you have Da Niece
Is there any chance that you have Da Nephew?
DR DearReaderLaura - Lovely and entertaining pics as always. *And aren't we due for a new series of Swedish Chef's Hat photos? ;)
Jane-
I hope that you and Keith had a Great Thanksgiving. What did you guys do?
Sadly, the owner of the Swedish Chef Hat has a job and cannot travel.
Thank you. I hope you did as well-details please :)
Bryan was going to come here. Since he has a paper to write & I wanted to get away & rest my wrist, we decided to go there at the last minute.
I didn't rest my wrist but we did have a lovely time. Bryan, as always, cooked us up a great gourmet meal. He planned a nice dinner but nothing during the day for me to munch on. I asked if we could get something light. Bryan instead innovated us with wonderful appetizers.
I began the day with hot chocolate and then progressed to three kinds of hummus with baked pita chips & sliced carrots.
We then had a white bean dip (whole beans) Followed by sliced apples with cheese.
Dinner began with pumpkin soup with potatoes & leaks & Bryan's fresh onion broth base-oh so good & salad. We then progressed to rice cakes, cooked like risotto & then rolled in a bread crumbs, panko & parmesan mixture before frying. These were topped with a delish capinata (eggplant).
For dessert Bryan threw together an interesting cake. Bryan rarely uses a recipe & I find it amazing this cake came out. He saw some cherries, the kind used in fruitcakes & figured he would make a fruit cake of his liking. He tossed in pumpkin, flour, eggs, soda, ginger, fruit, rum & I don't know what else. Then he topped the cake with a cream cheese rum frosting & topped it with grated coconut. I'm still eating leftovers.
It was a fun day.
Does she like this job better than the last one? What is it?
Did you give Bear some aspirin?
Yes. She is happy with this one.Well, being happy with the job is 90% of it. Lord knows it is horrible to have to go to someplace that you hate.
Because of the need for internet safety, she does not want to say specifically where she works.
Thank you. I hope you did as well-details please :)

And what Exactly is Emblazoned on Keith's Shirt??
DR Kerry - Continued Foot/Leg Recovery Vibes to You. Good to know that you're Healing is coming along nicely.
-And just how much longer does your doctor say you have to wear a cast?
My niece, Debi, might be joining us here on HHW. I showed her the site when I was in Pittsburgh and told all about how wonderful you people are.
I woke up this morning wanting a steak dinner at Outback with Bloomin' onion, etc. I haven't been there in at least a couple of years.

Hello ... it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, DR Aunt Danise.
Third cup of tea, two loads of wash and one sore body from yesterdays shopping marathon and now this ;)! I am too excited.

Well I continue on my BlameMattH-athon--just bought a Onkyo 7.1 sound system for our new high-tech TV and DVD player. Looks like I got a pretty good deal, as these things go--it lists for over $600, Amazon had it for around $450, and I got it for about $325. Not cheap, but not as bad as it might have been. Let me live in denial if it's available somewhere for $199. :)
I've only been to Outback once and I loved the Bloomin' onion. Just reading your post makes me want to go there just to get it. :D
Off to Massachusetts this afternoon for a memorial on Sunday for my cousin. She had loved art, so the memorial is being held at an art museum near her home.
It's likely that I'll be generally E&T from 1 pm today until Sunday night, since I don't know what my internet access situation will be.
Danise, sometimes dogs, and even cats, roll off the bed. I bet all my pets have done so at some point in their lives. Sherlock did it a few weeks ago.
I wish I had some T-Day leftovers!
DR LAURA thanks for sharing the neon flamingo and pyramids....interesting!
And of course they built that dam especially as a set for 1957's THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, but then left it at the request of the locals.
(((FJL))) it sounds like a very fitting memorial for your cousin. Even thought it is under sad circumstances, I hope you have good visits with your family members.
Good morning, all! I believe my decrepit kitchen stove, not the basement boiler after all, is the source of the carbon monoxide, since I spent most of yesterday feeling very flu-ish. I had been boiling water all day to steam up the apartment and I couldn't figure out why I had felt so good in Ohio and so puny in Manhattan. I'll report it on Monday to my landlord and see if they can get someone in to check out/replace the stove.
Vibes to FJL.
Sherlock Holmes books: I mentioned this some time ago in another context, but there's a fun read out there called The Case of the Philosopher's Ring, where Sherlock goes up against "the wickedest man in the world," Sgt. Pepper cover boy (among other accompishments) Aleister Crowley.
(My niece, Debi, might be joining us here on HHW.)

Sorry to break the news, but...
Sir Lloyd Webber already did! ;)
Glad you are pleased with your new computer. Sounds like it will be fabulous when you are all hooked up! :) And just think how much larger all of our gorgeous avatars will appear! :P
Elmore, you should go out this very day to the neares hardware type store, and buy yourself a Carbon Monoxide Detector. The stove may not decide to wait until Monday to try and kill you!
Slingblade, I thought you wrote, "Sir Lloyd Webber already died."
AUSTRALIA HAS A NEW GOVERNMENT
I am very pleased.
It seems to be a Government that cares about a FUTURE for the world and not just a short term view for this country.
I have hope.
Mr Bush has lost something from his pocket.
I've been listening to a delightfully delightful CD pairing of Neal Hefti's Sex And The Single Girl score, along with Leonard Rosenman's score for The Chapman Report.
We just removed the oriental rug under the bed and replaced it with the new rug we bought last night, without completely dismantling the bed.
That was an adventure.
The cats are now exploring the new rug. They are so easily amused!
I went to 5 different stores scoping out the prices on chest freezers -I'm just looking for a 5.0-5.5 cu ft. I am amazed at the cost to deliver the little thing in town. Anyway, it's starting to look like my best deal with delivery and disposal of the old one is Home Depot. Now I need to make sure I have a place to plug it in downstairs - the place I wanted to plug it in won't work. I don't think they changed out the outlet to a grounded one in the room I want to use...hmm better go check. If it's good to go I'll head to the store and put in my order while I know they have them in stock.
Scoping out the prices on chest freezers? Wouldn't it be easier to just walk around outside without a bra?
Oh, Tom, what are we going to do with you?

Elmore, did they ever fix the "boyler"?

I had a HUGE cat named Petey. He fell off the bed one night and the look on his face as he was falling was priceless. I laughed and laughed
Wise words, DR TCB, and about two hours ago I did exactly that. It's now hanging above me as I type this.
TCB-I’m sure the “wake” will be more fun with your friend in attendance amongst the living.
Edi-congrats on getting the rug in place!
Kerry-funny Basset story.
In one of the stores I asked for a chest freezer and then said..."well, a food freezer actually". I don't think the sales person heard me, there was no response at all
DEBI! Welcome to HHW!
Awwww, I'm sorry I missed you, Debi! I thought you would start posting tonight--not that this is a bad time. Anytime will do!
As long as it's understood--You are the Niece and I am the Niecea. :)
Oh and not to make anyone green with envy--I just got the Betty Crocker's Bridal Edition cookbook off of Half.com for about three bucks. I also go the Big Red Book Extra for about the same price. Lots of pictures, BTW.
Props to MattH Department: Matt took some serious time out of his day to help me with what turned out to be a defective home theater system. Oy. The cords, the cords!! I did manage to get it boxed and returned, which is no mean feat.
DR Jose - thanks for mentioning the online Weight watchers. I'm seriously considering that. First I need to get my but cheeks 3 1/2 blocks down the hill to Curves and start getting this body into shape.
See what we all missed:

I realized today that I never bought a DVD version of the Le Miz 10th Anniversary Concert. I have the video, and I love it, so I thought I would treat myself. I had no idea that it was out of print.
E-bay has copies going for between $56.00 to $150.oo for Buy It Now. Amazon has used copies going as high as $299.00.Wow!
I've only been to Outback once and I loved the Bloomin' onion. Just reading your post makes me want to go there just to get it. :D
Head on over here tonight and pick me up, and we'll go to one together. That's a great plan!
;)

I'm thinking about donuts.
I got a very sweet e-mail from my cousin Dee Dee, who'd given Murder At Hollywood High to her mother - her mother gave it to a ninety-something year old man who loves mysteries and he told her that he thought it was one of the best he's read. I love that.
If I were a Rabbi, we'd have very irreverant sermons, original plays and musicals, and we'd all say "What is it, fish?"
