Well, you've read the notes, the notes were jolly, and now it is time for you to post until the sugar plum cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: NOVERCAL!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up... Well... Since I haven't been to bed yet, I'm still up, so... In any case...
-
DR Ron Pulliam - After going through last night's posts, I believe the following questions are the ones that come to mind - well, at least to mine:
Do I want what you're having (had)?
I wonder if having that wireless keyboard is setting up some extra electrical and magnetic fields in your abode?
Are you sure didn't already have that Triple Latte and Chocolatines?
;)
-
As I was saying...
Liz Callaway was W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L!
I could gush and gush about her cabaret performance earlier tonight, but it would just be superlative after superlative. Truly one of my all-time favorite nights of entertainment ever! And my friend, Michael, also loved her too!
-In fact, we may go back again Sunday night for her closing show. :)
-
BK - Liz and Alex and Ron send their best. -Of course, I didn't realize that I already knew Ron since he's one of the drummers for A Chorus Line. We've played many a rehearsal of "The Cassie Dance" over the past couple of months.
-
OH! And DR Julie happened to be at Liz Callaway's cabaret tonight too. In fact, she ended up sitting right near us. -It was good seeing you again, Julie!
-
And in the truly "Small World" department...
Michael just moved to NYC from LA literally a week a half ago. He works in the television field as a producer-type, and a mutual friend of ours happened to put us in touch with each other. I had mentioned to him earlier in the week that I wanted to see Liz Callaway, and he mentioned back to me that he would love to. Well...
After the show, we were walking down 22nd Street towards Eighth Avenue, and we start trading stories about being in "the biz". He had also done a bit of theatre work too. He had heard Julie and I mention "Bruce" - yes, we were talking about you, bk - and he was wondering which Bruce we were talking about. I told him, "Bruce Kimmel", and then told him that I had gone out to L.A. a couple of years ago to do a show for Bruce called What If?..
What If?!?!? Oh my god! I loved What If?!!!![/b]
He even remembered a good chunk of the lyrics from the "Tradition/Audition" section!
...Small and funny and fine.
-
In any case, it's late/early and I should get to bed.
Goodnight.
-
Oh!!! I had forgot to mention this yesterday...
DR Ron Pulliam - One Levain Cookie = 60 city blocks.
:)
-
Good morning...or are the wee small hours of the morning really the middle of the night?
-
I forwarded my office calls to my cell phone, so of course someone called my office at 3:00 AM. Mind you, there was no message by the time I got to the phone, but I must remember to turn it off or at least put it on vibrate before I go to sleep.
-
So just as I was about to fall back to sleep, Callie started crying. She doesn't do that in the night, so of course I immediately thought she must be sick. She led me on a wild goose chase, or a tame cat chase, down the stairs to the basement back up the stairs and to the kitchen. She wouldn't let me catch her so I just sat in the hallway for awhile and decided I was now awake, so I got up, made some tea and Callie is now sleeping under the dining room table. LOL
-
It has started snowing...the weather channel was a couple hours off. That's a running joke with my mom and I....well the snow will start at 5:00 AM sharp...
-
SO. I guess no one is here in the wee small hours of the morning....
Oh DUH...that's when the whole wide world is fast asleep
-
Except whoever it was that decided they needed to call my office...probably one of my client's who works the night shift
-
Oh the weather outside is frightful...but the furnace is so delightful....
Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
-
Ron - Congrats on your milepost
-
I am my own frenzy....
-
Will we never get to page 2
-
Will the morning denizens be surprised about my middle of the night frenzy
-
Callie is now calmly watching the snow fall...goofball for pulling my leg
-
Boo has had her 4:00 AM crunchy fest
-
And I am sipping green tea with mango
-
I will take us to page 2 and then I will go read my book until I go to sleep or finish the book, whichever happens sooner
-
I"m reading Lincoln's Melancholy. It's really much more interesting than I thought it would be.
-
Will we never get to page 2?
-
DR Sandra, it was fun to see your photos....but you haven't answered the burning question.....
-
Is he cute? and more importantly....does he drink cherry coke?
-
Let's see...vibes to all who need them~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Vibes to all who want them~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Congrats to JMK on his opening night...have we heard from DR George? Was he eaten by Zombies???
-
My work is done here....time to read and then sleep....or just sleep.....
-
Congratulations to DR RLP on his 15,000+ posts!
-
Doesn't Novercal help you lose weight?
I think rain is predicted for us today, hopefully no snow until next week sometime.
Time will, of course, tell.
Last night I didn't interrupt DR RLP's frenzy because I, too, was watching a film for the first time....Miss Greta Garbo in ANNA KARENINA. That was a great movie. I love the Vivian Leigh version from 1949 or so, and I had sort of avoided this version as Garbo isn't my favorite actress....but she was great. Fredric March was very handsome and spent most of the movie with his hands in his pockets - Basil Rathbone was also very good as the husband. Freddie Bartholomew (third billed right after Garbo and March) was cloying. I liked him in CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS, but not much else...
Anyway....I see that this movie is available on DVD, so I may have to purchase it.
-
Just checked the weather....it is 25 degrees with a high of 36 degrees expected today.
A high of 57 degrees with THUNDERSTORMS tomorrow!

Just so you know:
Expect a couple of shocks, surprises or startling news coming out of left field while the Moon in Virgo makes its monthly opposition to Uranus in Pisces (4:06PM PST). This polarity can also point you toward developing new high-tech and computer skills.

And the word of the day is: NOVERCAL!
And The Song Of The Day Is : STEPSISTER'S LAMENT
-
It is still raining.

Why would a fellow want a girl like that....a girl who's merely lovely?

Happy December 1st everyone!!!

Good morning, all! Where has 2007 gone?
Nothing new to report; it's back to the harp part.
-
Congrats, RonP, on your major milestone
-
Someone in a weight-loss group years ago had written a parody of "Ten Minutes Ago" in honor of the group leader:
Ten weeks ago we met you
And we murmured our "How do you lose?"
We hated the diet
But you said to try it
And this was the start of our blues

LOL -- I was thinking some of the same things -- or he either broke into the brandy cabinet or he was on a sugar high (didn't he mention something about some cookies?). Maybe he had a piece of Monkey Rum Cake ....
-
...or maybe MR. P was high on Novercal ...
-
Congrats, RonP, on your major milestone
What we here at HHW call a gratuitous post for gratuitous milestoning... ;)
-
Speaking of gratuitous milestoning, that's what I'm attempting right now -- E and T make-up frenzy (trying to pad those milestone numbers)...

Good Saturday morning to all.
-
Good Saturday morning to all.
And good Sat. morning to you!
-
It's been raining here in AZ since yesterday -- yeaaaa! We (and the trees and plants) have been in need of it for ages...
-
They are predicting a bit of snow!! here for later tonight and tomorrow.
Dec 1, and suddenly it's winter.
Will we never get to April?
-
mornin' Miss Karen!
-
Good morning all! Not much to report.. Still healing. It's taking so long to get it trained to heal, I don't know when I'll get it trained to roll over and play dead. :)
-
Well, we're this close to page 3, so I'll continue my gratuitous streek for a few more posts before I have to scram...
-
So -- Thursday night, the first night that shows were performing again after the strike, I decided that it was a bit of a historic moment (for a theater fan, anyway), and that I had to be part of it. So I cancelled my originally scheduled plans and got a ticket to see Is He Dead?, the newly discovered, but long ago written, play by Mark Twain.
It was so thrilling to be in the theater that night. The excitement in the audience was palpable - pure electricity. The cheers and applause began right as the lights were dimmed, and everyone was so excited when the curtain was raised.
The play was very funny. Not a great work from a writing standpoint, but a clever comedy that was very well acted by one of my faves - Norbert Leo Butz, with some excellent acting performances from Bryon Jennings and David Pittu.
A real treat to see the show that night.
-

Healing vibes -- offering treats always works (talk to the Enabler!)

I have never seen THE SPOILERS, but I do agree with BK in that Richard Barthelmess is quite a good actor.

-
I spy DR Barnum and Bailey .. and Mz Patti .. Mornin'!
-
PLUS, that was the originally scheduled opening night for that show before the strike started. The opening has since been postponed a few weeks. BUT - my playbill is an opening night playbill with the (since wrong) date of November 29 printed on it. - A great item for a playbill collector such as myself!! -- making me doubly glad I went that night.
-
Healing vibes -- offering treats always works (talk to the Enabler!)
I'm all for treats!
-
Ah-hah, page 3 so I can make like a tree and leaf ... LOTS of end-of-semester paperwork to do (minor revisions to my qualfying paper, my presentation essay, my final study packet and paper, revisions to my thesis plan, colloquium report, and my end-of-term paperwork). You get the picture on why I've been most E and T....
-
I'm all for treats!
Especially ones from the Enabler!!
-
TOD; Christmas cookies cut out in festive shapes. We have always done rich butter/sugar cookies with scads of buttercream frosting. Probably my all-time favorite food.
Even sometimes in July, I'll get out the cookie cutters and bake Christmas cookies. It's amazing how one can eat a dozen cookies without even blinking!
-
Goodness but we are frenetic bunch.
Frenzies frenzies everywhere
Without a pause to blink
Frenzies frenzies everywhere
Someone call a shrink!
-
I'm outta here! (One last gratuitous post for the road in honor of Mr. P's gratuitous milestone!)
-
DR Jose and Missy Karen: The only consumable I had last night was a pepperoni pizaa....HONEST. At least, that was all I'd eaten prior to my posts.
I later had that bowl of ice cream w/syrup and pecans.
Heaven.
-
Then, last night, I went to see the amazing and endlessly talented Liz Callaway at the lovely Metropolitan Room. And had the extra pleasure and surprise of getting to sit by DR Jose and his new friend Michael!
As Jose reported, the evening was such a treat. Liz certainly has one of the most beautiful voices out there today. She gave such a touching and glorious concert. And generous in length, too. She sang her signature songs - Meadowlark, and The Story Goes On. And many others. And entertained us with some stories of her travels for her current world-wide touring scheduled (we open in Korea, we next play in Iowa), and her work on shows such as Merrilly We Roll Along. And we all got to learn of her true, unwavering love for air travel (NOT).
I could watch this show again and again. Alas, if history is any guide - her last extended cabaret gig in NY was in 1980, so we all may have to wait awhile.
-
DR Jose: 60 blocks? How many blocks do you have to do to "catch up"?
-
Goodness but we are frenetic bunch.

Mr. P !! How's that Novercal hang-over?!

Especially ones from the Enabler!!
I'm all for enabling, in general.

Gracias for the gratuity!

I don't know this Novercal stuff. Wouldn't touch it, I wouldn't.

And I'm all for gratuitous posting.

Like this one.

And this one. :-)

I'm all for gratuitous food sampling.

Gracias for the gratuity!
And a gratuitous "You're welcome" back at 'cha!

I don't know this Novercal stuff. Wouldn't touch it, I wouldn't.
That's what she said (The Office reference)...

I recorded a film last night that I did not know existed. It's a 1935 version of "Enchanted April" starring Ann Harding.
I don't know from the original story, but this one differs from the 1992 version in that Lottie Wilkins's husband is the novelist and Rose Arbuthnot's husband is the financial advisor/investor.
I look forward to watching it when I can stay awake.
-

Time now to finish dressing. Have to get out to mail something to Elmore and to get my Morning Buns, my Chocolatines and my triple-shot Peet's latte.
Ciao-ders.

Ah - I new Enchanted April was on last night but I just assumed it was the 1992 version. I never knew there was an earlier one - wish I had recorded it.
I LOVED the 1992 version of the film. Several years ago, they did a play version of it that ran on Broadway for a short time - it wasn't too successful. But I managed to see it three times because I just loved it.
Let us know how you like it after you get a chance to watch.
-
I mean it this time ... I've got to scram ... Adios!

It is still raining.

Thanks, DRs JoseSPiano and Julie for the lovely reports on Liz.
LOVE the LIZ LOVE!!! :)

DR Ron Pulliam -
I am sorry to have missed your terrific frenzy and general merriment last evening. I'm a big fan of your fascinating flights of fancy. :)
And CONGRATULATIONS on your new lofty plateau.

DearReaderLaura DR...
RAIN!
:)
-
DR Sandra -
Wonderful photos... thanks for sharing! :) :)

Well, last night was the outdoor singing gig for Santa's arrival on a firetruck... It was fine; not too cold. And I didn't have to dress in any particularly embarrasing way. And I'm glad it's over.
This afternoon, my DH and I and a bunch of the family clan will be descending on NYC to take in the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular.
-
TOD...
Every year for the past 6 or 7 years, I take off work for two days and bake cookies with my mother. We make about 8 kinds, a total of about 250 dozen. It is one of my most cherished holiday traditions.
-
Good morning!
Gorgeous day here but colder than yesterday, and it looks like we're in a decreasing temperatures mode for the next five days. High won't be out of the 40s by Wednesday.

I saw one of the dress rehearsals and it's a very fun show - I think the whole clan will love it.
-
ANNA KARENINA is my favorite Greta Garbo performance, I think. Better than CAMILLE and possibly better than QUEEN CHRISTINA. I don't think Vivien Leigh's characterization is in the same ballpark. March and especially Rathbone are stupendous. If they had had the supporting actor category in 1935, I think Basil Rathbone might have won the Oscar for this movie.

250 DOZEN?? :o :o
So much to bake in just two days! But a lovely tradition, and people you share them with must be very happy. Do you bake many different kinds or stick with one specialty cookie?
-
I spent a good part of the morning (in between my workout, that is) installing my new Vista-friendly HP printer. I don't really have that much need for a computer printer any more. The scanner and copier functions are more valuable for me, so I hope to get good use out of this machine.I've always had good luck with HP printers. (Haven't had one for awhile; I've had a Lexmark and then a Canon previously.)
-
I just simply cannot believe it is December 1. Where do these months go? Soon, I'll start getting those tax documents and have to start worrying about compiling all of that stuff. Argh!
-
Today will be more DVD and Blu-rays. THis afternoon, I'll finish two in-progress items: DR. NO and MURDER SHE WROTE, Season 7, disc 2.
Tonight, I'll be watching CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND on Blu-ray. All three versions are on the disc, and I'll probably choose the most recent one, the director's cut, to watch.
-
And, of course, TORCHWOOD's season finale is tonight. Yes, DR Ron Pulliam, it's been on 13 weeks.
As usual, I'll record the 9 p.m. broadcast and watch at 10 or later so I can speed through commercials and get only program.
-
I was very disheartened to see what BBC is asking for the TORCHWOOD box set. It's 13 episodes, and they're asking more than the asking price for any American series that normally has 22-24 episodes.
Looks like I'll be looking for a used copy (or wait for Deep Discount's summer 20% off sale).
-
Re: Sundance (from last night). I have never been to the film festival, but I can claim credit for one of the barn roof's pitches (intrigued? read on. not intrigued? read on, anyway). Sundance (the resort) was designed by my best friend's father (who also designed Snowbird and my parents' palatial manse in the mountains outside of SLC). We were actually living in Seattle when Redford hired Brixen & Christopher to do Sundance, but we came home (to SLC, that is) for a long summer vacation (it may have been 1968, because I somehow remember RFK getting assassinated when we were there, but it might have been another later year). Mr. Brixen had a bunch of models of the nascent resort at home and he asked me and his son what we thought of the pitch of one of the roofs and we helped him make the final decision. :)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... For real this time too!
-
DR Ron Pulliam - I am ahead. Way ahead. I'd say about 33-37 cookies ahead. ;D
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I, too, and fond of Christmas Cookies. I love 'em all. However, if I come across a good batch of Mexican Wedding Cake Cookies or Cashew or Almond "Nougats", well, I could just keep popping those confectioner's sugar coated treats in my mouth all day. *Archway makes some decent ones around this time of the year. Hmm.... Is Archway carried here in NYC? Hmm... ???
-
Put me down for Christmas cookies as well, and the thicker the icing, the better I like 'em.
-
Now, I'm heading down to change the sheets in the bedroom, check the mail, and then start fixing lunch.
WBBL.
-
DR singdaw - What a great tradition that you and your Mom have! It reminds me of my college years - and also of the Topic the Day.
My piano teacher, Dr. V (short for Vlahcevic), was/is a great cook. And a great baker too. Starting around Thanksgiving she would make a different batch of cookies each day. Then as students and friends were invited over to her house for Holiday gatherings, we were handed a "cookie plate", and would proceed into her (spacious!) kitchen. All along the countertops were tins of cookies, each filled with a different type. You filled your cookie plate accordingly, and then we would all sit in the living room listening to music and talking about anything but music and school. I always wondered when she had the time to make all those cookies - and some of them were pretty labor intensive. I loved some of her traditional Polish treats, but she also made an exquisite Chocolate-Pistachio Cigar. Yum!
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up, and must cloth myself, as she of the Evil Eye will be here in about twenty minutes.
-
Glad to hear the reports on Liz - I've never seen her be less than stellar.

...And has the "mystery" over the correct lyrics for "Blinded By The Light" ever been setttled? -Wrapped up like a what?!?!?
According to Wikipedia:
Springsteen, in his 2005 VH1 Storytellers appearance, lightheartedly made the assertion that the sole reason that Manfred Mann's version of the song went to number one is that the altered lyric is actually "revved up like a douche". Bruce said, "The original lyric is 'cut loose like a deuce' referring to a two seat hot-rod, a little deuce coupe. Manfred Mann changed the lyric to 'revved up like a douche', which is a feminine hygienic procedure.... so, they're different." It should be noted, however, that Manfred Mann's website lists the lyric as "deuce" rather than "douche". It was once rumored that Chris Thompson's New Zealand accent may be responsible for swapping deuce for douche; however, this cannot be correct as "deuce" said with a New Zealand accent is pronounced something similar to "juice". A video of a 1976 Manfred Mann performance seems to support the "altered lyric" position. While "deuce" and "douche" would be pronounced in much the same way, in the video, the singer clearly seems to be singing "wrapped" - rather than "revved" - consistent with the "douche" lyrics listeners have heard.

"DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS" SPOILER :)
I've heard the song over a thousand times and never had any idea she was singing "Pictures come alive." Always thought it was something like "You just come alive..." But when the (ultra-talented, by the way) contestant had the wrong number of words for the line that had to be filled in, she wisely walked off with the $200,000 she had already won rather than risk it.
What a feeling.

Who here ever misheard Tina Turner in "What's Love Got to Do With It"?
What's love got to do, got to do with it?
What's love but a second hand in motion?

You know what DR FJL - I think I always heard it te way you did, too. Until your post right now, I never realized it.

I'm still amazed that I had misheard the lyrics to "Flashdance (What a Feeling)" all these years, as I learned watching DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS last night.
That was one of my old Karaoke standards back in the early 90s, lol. What lyrics did you mishear?

Baby steps, Miss Julie. Baby steps.
Shoot for 400, then for 450. When you reach 450, just think about how a mini-frenzy will take you to 500. And before you know it, you're at 15,000.
-
I'm not talking 'bout millenium"
which always made sense to me because he was saying just for now, not forever.
Liked it much better than the real lyric- I'm not talking 'bout moving in.

The potential is limitless, Mr. Ron. That's why I love this board.

...And has the "mystery" over the correct lyrics for "Blinded By The Light" ever been setttled? -Wrapped up like a what?!?!?
The real lyrics were:
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
But I misheard them as:
Wrapped up like a douche
Another rumour in the night

Our Christmas cookie tradition is for me to make my shortbread cut-outs ahead of someone's first holiday visit to our home. I leave them undecorated until said visit and then we sit around the kitchen table and ice & sprinkle together. We'll get to observe that tradition this year when DS Rob and his girlfriend are with us for the weekend prior to their Christmas morning drive to Michigan.

A few weeks ago, I bought the kids a tub of these freeze-dried pieces of cod (not to be confused with freeze-dried cod pieces, which are somthing else entirely). Well, one of the cats (Angel) thought they were okay, but Nicky preferred to use them as hockey pucks on the kitchen floor. I kept the little tub on a shelf at my desk, and every day or two, Angel would come over and push the tub towards me until I gave her another piece.
Last weekend, while at Petsmart, I saw that they now carried tubs of freeze-dried pieces of salmon. BIG MISTAKE! Not only Angel, but Nicky as well, can't get enough of these things. First, I had to move the tub from my desk to the top kitchen counter. Not good enough. Now they both sit in the kitchen and cry for more treats. Angel started this morning at 7:30, while I was still in bed. She woke me up, and finally got me to follow her to.... Where else? The kitchen.

One of my favorite misheard lyrics is:

Johnny Depp's Bloody Oscar Bid (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314102,00.html#2)
Is this Johnny Depp’s year?
Every year we say it, and whether he’s played J.M. Barrie or a swashbuckling pirate, something or someone always gets in the way.
Who could it be this year? Philip Seymour Hoffman in "The Savages" or "Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead?" Daniel Day-Lewis as a lunatic in "There Will Be Blood?"
It’s bloody unlikely. Depp gives such a complete and textured performance as the demon barber "Sweeney Todd" — in which he sings, as well — that it would be hard for the Academy to deny him again.
And though there are plenty of great directors this year, such as Sidney Lumet ("Devil") and Joe Wright ("Atonement"), Tim Burton will be hard to ignore as well. He’s done the impossible and brought a masterpiece of a musical to film intact and almost to perfection.
I have to tell you that "Sweeney Todd" is my favorite Broadway musical because it’s so much more than that. But Stephen Sondheim’s magnificent piece of art divides people.
While the music is absolutely glorious from beginning to end, many audience members blanch at the grisly nature of the story. Sweeney, the embittered barber who goes mad, cuts a lot of throats. His accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, makes meat pies from his victims. It’s all done with humor, but still … you love it or hate it.
I loved Burton’s film version, which the American press saw Thursday night for the first time. But there were those in the theater whom you could feel wanted to run for the exits when the blood started spurting.
There are some graphic scenes, admittedly. I can only hope it’s not a turn off for Academy voters, because "Sweeney Todd" should be a Best Picture nominee this year and perhaps even the winner of the Oscar. It’s that good.
Burton opens up the stage musical so we finally see, after all these years, that "there’s no place like London." From Mrs. Lovett’s bake shop to Sweeney’s barber shop to the English seaside where the pair take a fanciful imaginary holiday, Burton cuts through the usual dilemma of transferring a play to film. It’s a totally two-dimensional experience on film.

I don't trust ANY of those blogs that are drooling over Sweeney Todd. It reeks of something. I do know one person who has seen the film, and he has said that while he enjoyed it the blood-letting is so graphic that he feels it's going to preclude the film from being anything other than a cult film. Plus, the studio is so over-hyping it (especially in the last three months - as relentless as Dreamgirls), as if they're trying to shove this thing down people's throats and tell them they HAVE to love it. I am looking forward to it, but Mr. Burton's track record in the last ten years doesn't give me a ton of hope.

It's nasty here. Yesterday, Cilla wrote
...have we heard from DR George? Was he eaten by Zombies???
Last night's opening night of Nite of the Living Dead! The Musical went quite well! We had a great audience and they laughed throughout the whole show. But we ended eight minutes later than our final dress/preview performance. :-\ Pug, our director, had wanted the show to be about two and a half hours, which was the length on Thursday, but I think that it was mosty very nervous energy at having an audience for the first time, so everyone just barreled through it all. Last night, we were a bit more comfortable and didn't have that nervousness, and consequently, less speed. I hope the show doesn't get longer and longer as the performances go on...that would NOT be good.

Der B- to answer your question
First of all, I don't believe the polls. They have never been accurate about the caucuses. During the last campaign, as of New Year's Eve, then a couple weeks before caucuses, John Kerry was still in a distant third or maybe even fourth. Howard Dean was still considered unbeatable in the polls. We all know how that came out.
Secondly, the caucuses really aren't just a vote, they are a fluid thing. Our primary isn't until June. What we do at the caucuses is determine delegates to the county convention. There they pick delegates to the district and there they pick the delegates to the state where they pick delegates to the national convention. If you are a delegate, you can change you vote at any stage of the game. So, it's really a goofy system
Thirdly, I'm still a Richardson fan and am a Richardson precinct chair right now, but that doesn't mean on caucus night I won't have to change my vote. The way the precinct caucuses work is that you go to the caucus site and the registered voters sign in. At the starting time the doors are locked (well at least figuratively) and a count is taken of eligible caucus goers. Challenges to people who may not really be eligible are made and observers have to go to a part of the room away from those who are eligible. People are given the opportunity to present resolutions that they would like to have made a part of the party platform. These are voted on and then you physically divide up into groups based on who you support. (sometimes the process is reversed) .
Now the math part. At this point you calculate what I think it's 15% of the total number of eligible voters is. Then you count the number of people for each candidate if it's 15% or more the candidate is viable and will get at least one delegate. If the candidate doesn't have 15%, then the candidate is not viable. BUT, then everyone is free to try to convince others to join their candidate, so a candidate who wasn't viable can become viable and visa versa.
So, even though I'm a precinct chair, if my precinct doesn't have 15% support for Richardson I will either have to go to another candidate or go to the undecided group (if that is viable). The whole process can take around 3 hours or so.
At this point I am still for Richardson with Edwards as my second choice.Don't count Richardson out of getting in the top 3, his goal for Iowa. He has gone to all 99 counties in Iowa and a delegate in the middle of nowhere means the same as a delegate from Des Moines or Iowa City. And you never know who will really turn out on caucus night. It's January 3, so many of the college students will be on break and families may be on vacation etc. No one is quite sure how that will effect turn out.

Like Doctor Who's companion series Doctor Who Confidential, there is a making-of companion called Torchwood Declassified, nubbins of which we've seen during the commercial breaks. And, like DW on DVD, my bet is that the Torchwood DVD set will include TD. So getting the Torchwood set will be like getting two series at once.

To your knowledge, does the Republican party mirror the Democrat in how the delegates are selected? Or are there differences?
Thanks Woody. Actually I did caucus as a Republican once and it's much different. I found this description on "How it Works" and it looks accurate to me
The Republican caucus voting system in Iowa is relatively straightforward: You come in, you vote, typically through secret ballot, and the percentages of the group supporting each candidate decides what delegates will go on to the county convention.
The Democrats have a more complex system -- in fact, it's one of the most complex pieces of the entire presidential election. In a typical caucus, registered democrats gather at the precinct meeting places (there are 1,993 precincts statewide), supporters for each candidate have a chance to make their case, and then the participants gather into groups supporting particular candidates (undecided voters also cluster into a group). In order for a particular group to be viable, they must have a certain percentage of the all the caucus participants. If they don't have enough people, the group disbands, and its members go to another group. The percentage cut-off is determined by the number of delegates assigned to the precinct. It breaks down like this:
If the precinct has only one delegate, the group with the most people wins the delegate vote, and that's it.
If the precinct has only two delegates, each group needs 25 percent to be viable.
If the precinct has only three delegates, each group needs one-sixth of the caucus participants.
If the precinct has four or more delegates, each group needs at least 15 percent of the caucus participants.
Once the groups are settled, the next order of business is to figure out how many of that precinct's delegates each group (and by extension, each candidate) should win. Here's the formula:
(Number of people in the group * number of delegates)/ number of caucus participants
-

Political calls. I have had perfectly good conversations interrupted by recordings of Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd etc..then there are the callers who are reading a script and the young kids who get all bummed out if you don't give them the answer they want. They can call until 9:00 PM. Most call during dinner

I agree. Especially during the caucuses. We take them very seriously and we know it can mean the end of a campaign for a candidate is looming. Even if your candidate isn't a front runner, it can show that they do have support and can make a difference in what happens next in their political career. Truthfully, most of the democrats I know are thrilled that we have so many good candidates to choose from for a change.

...God Bless our DVR!
When did it sneeze? ???

Has anyone else seen the commercial for the Jeep Liberty with the guy and the animals singing ROCK ME GENTLY? This ad makes me smile. ;D

Thanks TCB, I haven't seen it on TV for awhile, it was fun to see it again

People seem to be leaving out Mr. Burton's horrid Planet Of The Apes remake. The last Burton film I kind of liked was Ed Wood.
-
In something of a holiday miracle, I have knocked out the bare bones of arrangements for both "Light Sings" and "And We Were Lovers."
-

Well, duh! (insert snarky comment here:__________)
-
Torchwood is on in just a few minutes. I need to wrest the TV away from der Brucer and Tom Selleck.
-
We're also not paying attention to Corpse Bride. Oh, well.
-
Angel & Nicky are very cute. Today I said to Sherlock, "where's Daddy". First he ran to the frig & then peeked into the pantry where his treats his dried fish treats are kept.
-
Today at a major regional retailer I may or may not have accidentally collided my shopping cart with a display of jewelry, which may or may not have tumbled pell-mell to the floor. My youngest son may or may not have said under his breath, "Walk quietly away from the crime scene." :)

JANE _DON"T LOOK!!!!
;D Difficult not too. You might have said DON'T READ THE DETAILS! ;)

Rob and I just saw it during one of the football games - he hadn't seen it before and liked it a lot.
-
Pacific Pops just did Time of Our Lives from the Jeep commercials at our last concert.

Glad i have an unlisted number

I tried, but no matter how many times I typed in the characters they asked me to, I never got to vote...I kept getting another group of characters.
Typed in characters?? I clicked on the picture & then clicked on Vote.
There weren't enough choices on some of them. I couldn't find The Closer or any of the cast for the show. ???
I did vote for "Life".
-
Did I miss the spot where it tells you to vote?
There is a link to the People's Choice voting.

This one is my favorite. ;D

It was nice to have some rain today.
-
Is that a 16 oz? Keith does 3 shots in a 16 oz. Mostly he gets 4 shots in a 20 oz, It's a real treat when it can be from Peet's.
That sound about right. I order a "medium".
-
For our "Torchwood" fans, I found this inventive clip at another sight in which someone created a montage of scenes from last week's show and added music from "Somewhere in Time."

JMK ;D Say hit to those cute kids of yours from me.

Hey, did it rain today?

I was very disappointed in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.

Oh, I didn't realize Tim Burton made that movie. I did actually enjoy PLANET OF THE APES, and I did see and enjoy ED WOOD...so I guess I have seen a few Tim Burton films...as for Richard Burton...hmmm...did he ever work for A.I.P.?
-
Oh, my, Pitt 13/West Va 9. I'll bet Columbus is going nuts right now.
-
Time for to watch another Bollywood movie...DHOOM (2004). This movie was a huge hit and it stars Abishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Esha Deol.
Now I can see what all the fuss has been about...however, I am not expecting it to end up as one of my favorites as it is one of those modern day action films that I usually find annoying (howevr the soundtrack is fabulous!)

Had a very enjoyable night of viewing. I began with CLOSE ENCOUNTERS on Blu-ray. Much of it looked spectacular but there certainly were inconsistencies with some of it looking flat.
The Blu-ray allows you to choose which of the three versions you want, and, once chosen, if you prefer, let the disc signal you when a scene comes up that was in another version but not in another. I turned that off; I didn't want anything to disrupt my attention from the feature.
It took me several viewings to get on board CLOSE ENCOUNTERS as a great film. I always thought it was good, but years have yielded up so much more to it than I gave it credit for when I was younger.
And for such a young director, it's really a remarkably complex film on a HUGE scale. I guess his having directed JAWS, at the time the highest grossing film ever, enabled him to get a production as big as this one.
-
Oh, the Blu-ray had DTS-Master Audio, a lossless variation on DTS with a much higher bitrate than usual. Need I say that several times during the movie, my house was shaking.
And that kitchen scene when the little boy gets abducted. There have been few more tension filled sequences EVER in movies than that one. And the sound adds another entire dimension to it.
-
Next, I decided to revisit BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN again. I let the PS3 upconvert it this time, and this is the first time I watched it on the new TV. Still, a very touching, emotion-packed film for me. Didn't get finished with it tonight, but I'll finish it tomorrow.
-
TORCHWOOD had an excellent season finale, one I enjoyed immensely. And, of course, a nice cliffhanger that will make waiting for the second season to start pretty unbearable.
-
Off to bed now.
Good night!
-
Just when I was ready to give up hope, we have developed a snow sky here, and it has started to snow.
Unfotunately at the current rate that it is falling, it would take all night to get an inch of this stuff.
I hear that. 8)
-
Yes, TORCHWOOD had another fine episode tonight. The characters always stay in character - from week to week....
And the cliff hanger is intriguing!
And Captain Jack certainly had a nice bitchy comment for Gwen.
-
We had a nice $1000 day at the World of Wisdom, which doesn't sound like much, I know.....but that's a lot of incense and candles!!!
-
This is a most unseemly way to welcome in December. Will we never get to page eleven?
-
Had a lovelier than lovely dinner with Margaret and Richard Jones and son Ben. Wonderful food, great company.
-
Had a very fine time indeed at LITTLE MERMAID.
Side note: The scuttlebutt from Denver about the scenic design being unappealing seems to have been addressed and completely rectified.
-
I have no time to watch a motion picture on DVD, hence I shall play on the computer.
-
A freind of mine sent me a clip of Time Crash, promoting hte next season of DW.
Spoiler!

Has the fifth Doctor! It was too cute. John Barrowman introduced the clip.
What a cutie!

MattH and SWW,
On Torchwood, Capt. Jack is one of my favorites

DBF and I watched BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN about two months ago. A very well done movie. I greatly enjoyed it.

Hello Noel!

Are we STILL on page ten?
-
No, we are not - we are on page eleven.
-
Will we never get to page twelve?
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS. How come the GUESTS don't WUSSBURGER, but all our loyal and true hainsies/kimlets do.

Last month was our slowest since last December. Still way ahead of the previous November, however, but let's not go the wrong way this month.
