Well, you've read the notes, the notes raved about the birthday, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they didn't make the birthday bash and are now flogging themselves, like Judge Turpin.
-
And the word of the day is: EXCURSUS!
-
The evening birthday cake was entirely different than the afternoon Parisienne cake. I don't know what the evening cake was called, other than cake.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAWAII TIME!
-
DR TCB: I was born in 1948. But I don't look a day over 40.
-
I'm still quite full.
-
A decade over 40, maybe....but definitely not a day.
-
Julie and Nick are friends and had just come from a screening of Nick's John Ford documentary - Julie wrote it.
-
Will we never get to page sixty-five?
-
Happy Belated Birthday, BK!
-
I mean page two.
-
And I loved my fish sticks, dear reader Miss Karen.
-
Ron - I type somewhat slowly, so I hadn't seen your post concurring about the deletion until after I had posted the gaslight post.
:)
-
I'm not quite ready for bed yet - but in case I haven't mentioned it - BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!
-
I'll be watching the DVD again in the morning.
-
Ron - I type somewhat slowly, so I hadn't seen your post concurring about the deletion until after I had posted the gaslight post.
:)
Get Skip, or Jose, to show you the button on the keyboard that makes the typing go faster.
-
I must say, the Brain footage looked rather spectacular.
-
And that birthday thing I'd given to Jane way back when - that really got to me.
-
Will we never get to page sixty-five?
Somehow....today....I think not.
-
Maybe favourite Gene Pitney songs:
If I Didn't Have a Dime to Play the Jukebox.
It Hurts To Be in Love
Trans Canada Highway
I'm Gonna Be Strong

Ron - I type somewhat slowly, so I hadn't seen your post concurring about the deletion until after I had posted the gaslight post.

And the board was closed while I pondered how to explain Reservoir Courting to you.

-
Well, it's been quite the year for you, Bruce. Who knew, a year ago, what the next one would have in store for you?
-
And the word of the day is: EXCURSUS!
There are no excursus for how we all forgot your birthday yesterday, bk..
But I'll try.. You see it's just that crazy time of year, with the holidays and all, so it's easy and understandable how dates can slip up on folks and then pass before they even realize it. That's what happened with all us HHWers. We simply forgot.
So on behalf of the entire HHW family -- HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, BK!!
-
Did you even suspect such a year?
-
and of course he wrote:
Rubber Ball
He's A Rebel
Today's Teardrops
-
I believe Ms. Kirgo also worked on a sitcom called "Another Day," which didn't last nearly long enough - but I really loved it, and its theme song runs through my head at least once a week, if not more often.
-
Good night, everyone.
-
And I loved my fish sticks, dear reader Miss Karen.
In my best Texas drawal: "Whot iz it, feesh?"
-
And again - goodnight from OZ.
-

If it'll make you feel any better: Early Happy 61st Birthday BK!!

I believe Ms. Kirgo also worked on a sitcom called "Another Day," which didn't last nearly long enough - but I really loved it, and its theme song runs through my head at least once a week, if not more often.
She and her sister Dinah did some sitcom stuff back in the 80s....like "Golden Girls" and "The Facts of Life." :)
-
I hope I can see the John Ford documentary without buying a 300 lb dvd box set.
-
Der B - I assume the courting rituals at the reservoir are similar to those described by Jane Powell in the Goin' Courtin' number in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, right?
-
Page 2 already?
I hadn't even got warmed up on page 1.
-
She talked about The Facts of Life, and One Day at a Time.
-
Der B - I assume the courting rituals at the reservoir are similar to those described by Jane Powell in the Goin' Courtin' number in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, right?
Or the Village People's "Y.M.C.A."

I'm still quite full.
Of feesh sticks?
-
So, Amy, the DVD was a success!

the Goin' Courtin' number in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
with lyrics by Mr. Johnny Mercer!

So, Amy, the DVD was a success!
Hooray!
Thanks to all the DR's who gave us their photos, and to Arnold M. Brockman and Elmore for providing musical inspiration!
-
Well, since the par-tay is over, guess the birthday frenzy is officially over and I can go get some sleep -- and have visions of Page 70 dancing in my head....*sigh*
-
Good night, all. I can't remember the last time I was up this early. :)
-
Y-o-u a-r-e g-e-t-t-i-n-g V-E-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-Y s-l-e-e-p-y.....!
:P Don't make me come out there and snatch you bald-headed....

Good night, all. I can't remember the last time I was up this early. :)
You call this "early"?
Wait an hour and it will be late...
-
:P Don't make me come out there and snatch you bald-headed....
I'll take hair for hair!
-
Won't THAT be a sorry sight!?
-
Time for me to shuffle off to dreamland. I must say that the bed in this hotel is the most comfy hotel bed I've ever slept on. It is like sleeping on a big, downy pillow. Ahhhhh....
-
Bruce, I offered to sing "Not While I'm Around", but nobody else thought it sounded like a good idea.
-
It sounds good to me in my head. Especially when I'm singing along with a recording of it.
-
And it sounds great in my parking garage a capella.
-
Thanks again for bringing the Brain CD's to the book signing, bk!

Man! They're scurrying away like roaches when the lights come on.

They're running out on us like rats from a pack of feral cats.

They are hieing themselves hence like a group of Shakespearean extras.

I gotta tell you.

LA TIMES (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/business/la-fi-strike9dec09,0,781071.story?coll=la-home-center)
In Hollywood, the fade to black begins
By Rachel Abramowitz, Maria Elena Fernandez and Meg James, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
December 9, 2007
Like a rolling blackout, Hollywood is shutting down.
Fallout from Friday's collapse of negotiations for a new contract between writers and studios will in the weeks and months ahead leave audiences with dwindling entertainment choices.
If the five-week-long strike by the Writers Guild of America continues, it's also poised to affect the awards season, the annual ritual of self-congratulation and promotion that runs through the winter.
And in short order, both the television networks and the movie studios will begin to suffer financial pain as the lack of original content prompts viewers to flee -- with advertisers not far behind.
...
(much more good reading)

They're just going off and living us here to fend for ourselves.

I would say that the last decade was overall an extremely creative one for me, but also an extremely difficult one in many other ways. I'm hoping and praying that the next ten years are not only creatively fulfilling and wonderful, but that the difficulties of the last ten years will all become positives and that things will be easier in that regard - I'm ready for things to be easier.
-
How in heck can we be on page 3 when I wasn't even warmed up to page 2?
-
Is this what was happening all day yesterday?
-
Already on page three - wow.
-
Are these pages being filled more quickly?
-
Will we never get to page four?
-
Der B - I assume the courting rituals at the reservoir are similar to those described by Jane Powell in the Goin' Courtin' number in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, right?
Well, sometimes the Sabine women bit comes into play (and it's off to the Rambles....)

I'm way too full.

One thing is for sure. At the end of the next decade, Bruce....we will be having your 70th Birthday Bash!
And then, but only then, should you start thinking that you might very nearly be approaching a time when you'll be past your prime....
-
I guess if I'd left yesterday open, we might just have gotten to the number one spot given that we're already on page three here.
-
It's nearly 1 a.m.
Only two more hours to go until the end of Bruce's birthday in Hawaii.
-
Perhaps for your 70th, we can charter a plane to depart LA at, oh say, 9 p.m., party on the plane for the several hours it takes to get to Oahu, and then continue partying in Hawaii.
-
Can you feel 70 nippin' at your rear end already?
I sorta can....
-
From the deafening silence, I'd say I've become what the French call "de trop".
-
Edisaurus must have dropped off while she was still logged on.
-
DER BRUCER must be napping.
-
BK must be rummaging for a bicarb.....
-
From the deafening silence, I'd say I've become what the French call "de trop".
There are still some rats left onboard the ship.

-
If I had to make a wager, I'd bet Miss Karen was having a nightmare of being chased by an angry primate with a sign that reads "Monkey Cake? I'll GIVE YOU MONKEY CAKE"!

The feral cats are sleepin' on the job!

What's Woody doing right now, der Brucer?
Is he zonked for the duration?
-
Oddly enough, I'm experiencing some slight delays in posting time....I press post and it's taking too long, IMO, for the post to "post."
Maybe my IP is doing some early Sunday a.m. maintenance.
-
Only five more posts and we'll be on page 4.
Only four more, actually.
-
Make that three more.
-
Anybody up for two more?
Anyone?
-
I could be halfway to page 5 if these posts "posted" faster. Sheesh!
-
I think this one will fill the page.
I do think so.
-
And now it's on to page 5.
PAGE 4

Bruce and der Brucer....adieu. I'm toast. It's time to lay my bones down for another period of regeneration.
Laters!
-
What's Woody doing right now, der Brucer?
Is he zonked for the duration?
Yup. He came home from work at 10:30, cooked dinner, and went to bed, with Fletcher close behind. Mikey and the blonds are napping as I surf and post.

DR Tomovoz - sorry to read about your Fosca. Sounds like things will be OK, though.

DR DaNiece - Congratulations on your new HHW status!!!! :)
-
Perhaps DR Edisaurus can post a link to the DVD so that those who didn't get notified by email can take a gander?
-
Many many thanks to DRs Jeanne and Edisaurus for doing a bang-up job with the whole project!
Herding HHWers is like herding cats!
-
And it sounds like DR Adriana Patti and her mother did a most excellent job in organizing the festivities.... Brava!
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I awoke to an e-mail from Donald Feltham saying they site was down. I went to the site and it was down. Down, baby, down. So, I called our host and got the machine, which said they're only open Monday to Friday - I pushed the number for tech support and left a message, then sent an e-mail to their support team, hoping they'd at least check in. Just got an e back saying the problem has been resolved (server down for at least six hours, it would seem), so all's well that ends well - happily someone was there checking messages and e-mails.
-
Will we never get to page five?
-
We've got us six hours to make up for. I'm putting on some rouge and eyeliner to make up for six hours, since six hours likes gaudy makeup.
-
Of course, there's sixty-something pages for some people to catch up on.
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
I will single-handedly take us to page five.
-
Just got "too many connections" so I wrote them again. They must be having severe server hiccups - but we haven't had that sort of problem for over a year, so I won't annoy them too much.
-
***SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES***
to DR Edisaurus & DH Greg!!!
-
I had a pretty good night's sleep - fell right asleep and didn't get up once through the night.
-
What's wrong with the board? I've been trying to get on all morning. And when I just got on a moment ago, it said "To many connections" and I couldn't post.
Did we blow the board up with posts last night? :)
-
***ADVANCE DENTAL VIBES***
to DR Ron Pulliam!!!
-
They just assured me in their snarky way (they never apologize for anything) that things are fine now.
-
Bruce, Just so you know, I've been getting "Can not find web site" messages all morning. I couldn't even see the board until now.
-
I hope you had a wonderful Birthday!!
-
They just assured me in their snarky way (they never apologize for anything) that things are fine now.
Good! I'm so glad.
-
I'm glad you had such a good day. My, what a frenzy!
I am pleased (and no doubt you are too) to say that you are hung. I finally got the photo you sent framed and on my wall. You are near Jason Graae and under Kim Novak.
You maybe hung in other ways, but we we won't go into that on the Sabbath! ;)
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And it seems like the site it back up again too.
-
In the meantime, I headed up the street to get a copy of today's New York Times, and have been educating and entertaining myself over the past couple of hours. *The Magazine's "The 7th Annual Year In Ideas" feature is quite fascinating.
-
DR Ron Pulliam - 40 what?
;)
-
Danise, scroll up - the site was down for about six hours. It's been fixed, according to our host.
-
Are we STILL on page four?
-
Nope, we're on page five.
-
Will we never get to page six?
-
And the word of the day is: EXCURSUS!
And The Song Of The Day Is: FABLE
(from The Light In The Piazza)
-
I wonder if I'll achieve 33,000 postings today - and the board is in spitting distance of 400,000, which is pretty amazing.
-
So... Were ham chunks served last night?
;)
Seriously, it sounds like everyone - especially BK - had a wonderful time last night. And it's nice to know that those of us who were not able to attend in person, were able to be there in spirit and "in cyber".
-
Welcome nineteen GUESTS! Guess they all burst through the door in one fell swoop.
-
And At His Birthday Bash BK had EGG ROLES
Has Anyone Acted A Part As An Egg?
Joe Egg,Maybe?
-
We usually average four to five thousand hits a day, sometimes a bit more - yesterday we had just under fourteen thousand hits. While it was our second highest day of posting, it was also our fourth highest day, views-wise, and that could conceivably change to third if people go back to read the plethora of postings from yesterday.
-
And it sounds great in my parking garage a capella.
Scares off the burglars, does it?
-
In other news...
Our landlord has been working on refurbishing the exterior of the building over the past couple of weeks. Well, she's been having the work done on the weekends, starting around 8:00am Saturday and Sunday morning. Well, I guess they started on the top floor - with the aid of some scaffolding - and have been working their way down. This morning, they were working on the ground floor, street level... right outside my windows and bedroom door. And, yes, they started at 8:00am.
Alas, it was not the noise that first woke me up, it was the smell of something chemical. At first I thought the gas was leaking, then after hearing some scraping and scuffing outside, I realized it the was stuff they were using to clean the concrete off with before they started touching up the grout/cement/whatever it's called. -And there's a proper term for that too - capping - ??? In any case...
I then got out of bed, and opened my bedroom door in order to help the fumes circulate. Then they started repainting the window casings and the door. More fumes. Ugh!
So, I got up again, drowsily made my way to the kitchen, and started making breakfast. And then since our own internet was down this morning, I headed out to get a copy of the Times. Then once our internet was back up, I found that HHW was down, so...
But the fumes have dissipated, and all is well on the 'net now. :)
-
What's Woody doing right now, der Brucer?
Is he zonked for the duration?
Yep.
I gets me rest while I can.
If you can call sleeping around a bulky, 125 pound Dalmatian restful. Dang, he takes up a lot of space on the bed.
And he insists on cuddling.
-
Ok, I'm pretty caught up. I've read notes and went back at least ten pages on posts from last night.
I fell asleep in front of the computer last night.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! Since I lost most of yesterday to my headache, DH Richard "excused" me from church today and I've already gotten a lot done, holiday-wise. Finally found time to do my online shopping and make a Christmas stocking for Rob's girlfriend (don't be too impressed, I just bought a plain one and ironed on some decorations).
I've also started decorating the piano with my angel collection and have imported some Christmas CDs to iTunes for my iPod.
-
I thunk at furst we haz busted the inner net. But itz ok now.
-
Yep.
I gets me rest while I can.
If you can call sleeping around a bulky, 125 pound Dalmatian restful. Dang, he takes up a lot of space on the bed.
And he insists on cuddling.
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have both Bear and Sheena in bed with me. Bear snores.
-
Hmm... I think I need and should out for a bit, and get some fresh, non-cleaning-solution-, non-paint-fumed air into my lungs. Yeah... I think that would be a good idea.
Laters...
-
And that birthday thing I'd given to Jane way back when - that really got to me.
Aww, that really got to me :)
-
BK - I'm so pleased that yesterday was your Best Birthday Ever and that you liked your HHW surprise DVD!
-
...I then got out of bed, and opened my bedroom door in order to help the fumes circulate....
Nice of you, to share with your apartment mates!
-
Fletcher doesn't snore. The noises he makes come from the other end.
:P
-
Fletcher doesn't snore. The noises he makes come from the other end.
:P
I wasn't going to mention that. ;D
-
I just went to check on the dogs and der Brucer. Der Brucer is feeling seasick.
Apparently, Fletcher got up from by bed (where he'd been sleeping), moved in with der B, and after arranging himself got the hick-ups.
And when he gets the hick-ups, the entire bed quakes.
-
I need to get myself some nice, warming food, to prepare for tonight. One of our regular cart wranglers got himself fired because he skipped work on Friday, so my work hours for today have been shifted so I can substitute as a cartwrangler this evening.
Also, need to dress warmly.
Sweatshirt? Check!
Scarf? Check!
Knit cap? Check!
Nice warm coat? Check!
Mittens?
Uh, mittens?
Der Brucer, can I borrow your mittens?
-
Hello everyone,
DR Singdaw, thanks! I have to confess ... I love reading your posts. You make me laugh with all of your wit.
DR Tom - favorite Gene Pitney songs - Town without pity, It hurts to be in love, I'm gonna be strong, Looking through the eyes of red.
DR Danise - nice to see you on.
DR bk - in your honor your HHW God's blew up the board!!!! Did anyone wish you a Happy Birthday?
I wanted to jump on and jump off -- it's game day!
Have a great day. Take care.
-
Hooray!
Thanks to all the DR's who gave us their photos, and to Arnold M. Brockman and Elmore for providing musical inspiration!
The music was great, from beginning to end the DVD was fantastic! Keith & I watched it twice, I'm sure I'll be watching it again. It was funny, touching, and a few moments brought tears to my eyes.
-
Been getting rid of lots of clutter, but finding to my surprise how much STUFF I really want to keep for sentimental value. I'll have to be tougher on myself about throwing things out.
-
Doesn't MR BK have a birthday sometime this month?
-
We've got us six hours to make up for. I'm putting on some rouge and eyeliner to make up for six hours, since six hours likes gaudy makeup.
Keith said to tell you there is no sympathy in this house. He got only 2-3 hours of sleep and I didn't get much more.
I guess we were overly jazzed about your big day ;)
-
Is post #9500 a milestone? I'd guess probably not, right?
-
Page 6 gossip dance
Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah! (a Spring Awakening reference)

Will we never reach page 45?
-
Hi DaNiece! Give everyone a hug for me!

We usually average four to five thousand hits a day, sometimes a bit more - yesterday we had just under fourteen thousand hits. While it was our second highest day of posting, it was also our fourth highest day, views-wise, and that could conceivably change to third if people go back to read the plethora of postings from yesterday.
I still have 10 pages or, beginning with page 31, so to go back and read.
-
Yesterday's postings were too much fun. I've put away all presents, and later I'll break open this humungous John Ford at Fox box set (I mean this thing must weigh ten pounds) - 29 movies, a book, and Nick's documentary all housed in a huge box.
-
I wonder if we'll achieve 400,000 posts today - then it's on to a half-million, baby.
-
I feel younger than springtime and older than Methusala all at once. Who in HELL was Methusala anyway? What did he have to do with old?
-
Methusala seems to have made his way into some famous theatre songs, hasn't he, though?
-
I had a hard time logging onto the site this morning. Anyone else have this problem?
-
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have both Bear and Sheena in bed with me. Bear snores.
Sherlock is versatile. He never stays with anything long. He alternates between snores, grunts, kicks & cuddles. He periodically gets up and flops back down into us. And Keith says "heaven help you if you get up to go to the bathroom".
He is cuddly, so cuddly in fact there have been many a night I woke Keith up to get the big cuddly dog off me so I could move. ;D
-
It Ain't Necessarily So
Razzle Dazzle
Past My Prime
-
All have great Methusaleh mentions
-
I thought I heard Santa coming down the street. Every year the Fire Department goes around with Santa on a Fire truck but I guess this time it was a real emergency.
-
Fletcher doesn't snore. The noises he makes come from the other end.
:P
;D The one thing Sherlock doesn't do. We won't trade our nightly routine with yours & Danise's.
-
Methsualeh also rhymes with Bruce-aleh.
-
And when he gets the hick-ups, the entire bed quakes.
;DI forgot about those. Sherlock's a wee bit gentler, or our bed doesn't shake as much.
-
Jose, stay away from those fumes as much as possible. I would be gasping for air by now.
-
I took me a while to get on, but that gave me time to remember.....A very merry unbirthday to you, to you/A very merry unbirthday to you, to you/So blow the candles out BK and make your wish come true/A very merry unbirthday to you! ... I think acc. to what Xtians call the OT(cant remember which book, probably Genesis), Methusalah lived about a thousand years, or as Sporting Life sings NINE hundred years..and we know what SL thought of that.

NHK Cup Ice Skating today on ESPN or ESPN2 at 4 p.m. EST (Taped). I haven't read the results, so I don't know who wins!
-
Ron, I was also born in 1948, only I don’t look a day over 17. Maybe I should update my avatar.
Bruce, shall I update my avatar? The one of me as a blond was originally at your request. If I update I’ll go brunette.
-
Hello, everyone!
Glad to see HHW is back up and running. Yes, I, too, tried to log on earlier.
-
Dear Michael Shayne - I posted about the problems with the site a few pages ago :)
-
I want to say a big MWAH!! to everyone who helped with the DVD. You were great! Truly, any time I needed assistance there was a DR there, happy to help.
Special thanks to Singdaw, George, Arnold, derBrucer, and, of course, MULTITUDINOUS THANKS to EDISAURUS!
-
Must dash.
-
Bruce, BEST WISHES AND VIBES THE YEARS TO COME WILL BE CREATIVELY FULFILLING, WONDERFUL & EASIER!
-
DR Adriana Patti, a big thank you and kudos to you and your mother for giving Bruce a party to remember!
-
DB, the Missing Persons reports are usually on the mountain, not where I hike. There was a suicide along the trail once, fortunately I missed that.
JRand, cute photo yesterday of your sweet girl.
-
It's very windy out, but the sky is blue and I am not.
-
DRJANE - I like your avatar!!!
And thanks to DRs EDISAURUS and GREG and DR ADRIANNAPATTI and her Mom and DRS GEORGE and SINGDAW and everyone else who helped make yesterday the Best Birthday Ever for MR BK.
-
Will we never get to page seven?
-
Where did MattH disappear to? And elmore?
-
JRand, cute photo yesterday of your sweet girl.
Thanks. She liked the snow a few days ago much more than she is liking the thunderstorms of today. ;D
-
It's very windy out, but the sky is blue and I am not.
We are on the phone with Keith's mother. She just gave us the same weather report. :)
-
Why, thank you JRand.
-
Been getting rid of lots of clutter, but finding to my surprise how much STUFF I really want to keep for sentimental value. I'll have to be tougher on myself about throwing things out.
That is one of my biggest problems and has been for a lifetime!
-
I think we all owe DR Edisaurus and Jeanne a big round of applause for doing the DVD. ;D

Re: last night's birthday dinner.
There's a lot of discussion on the foodie sites lately about the growing trend of going to restaurants and ordering a lot of small plates, appetizers really, and sharing. Restaurateurs and chefs are finding their customers really enjoy this kind of plating, and are encouraging it more and more.
Without knowing what was planned for our esteemed one's dinner, I pointed out on one of the boards that Chinese restaurants have always been this kind of experience.
So, cheers to our esteemed BK (and the Pattis mere et fille) for leaping to the forefront of trendy dining!
-
I hope it doesn't rain tonight. I don't enjoy working in the rain.
-
I bet-clear sky wishes for SWW
-
Where did MattH disappear to? And elmore?
Well, elmore spent around an hour between 7:30 and 8:30 this morning trying to log on and then went off to Toyland. When I got back about 30 minutes ago, I emailed a lot of folk, as you asked, to tell them the site was down.
Silly me!
-
DR elmore- ;D You are so cute.
-
Time to get to work.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to the Alex Theatre to see The Nutcracker, after which I shall return.
-
I should go for a walk now the ice has melted. I'm having trouble getting motivated. I'll clean up around here some first and then go.
-
And by the end of this evening, we should have two count them two video clips on You Tube from the LACC The Brain From Planet X.
-
And I heard from Brunel University that the show was a huge success and everyone loved it, and they, too, will be posting some clips on You Tube in the near future.
-
:D

There's another batch of caramel corn in the oven, so it should start smelling good around here soon!

I want some of Bruce's chocolate cake & some of Ginny's caramel corn.

NHK Cup Ice Skating today on ESPN or ESPN2 at 4 p.m. EST (Taped). I haven't read the results, so I don't know who wins!
I do know the results, but I won't say a word (or type a thing).

Good afternoon!
I tried for a couple of hours this morning to log on but as the server was down, it was impossible. We had a very mild day here. Warm enough to go without the heat on and even warmer temps are promised for tomorrow.
-
So happy to read about bk's wonderful 60th birthday bash. Did the inordinately large number of posts and hits cause the server breakdown, I wonder?
-
I have spent all afternoon with LOST. I watched six episodes this afternoon (Getting ready to start # 12 when I go back down. This is one of the best shows on television, bar none.
-
Only one of the six episodes I watched this afternoon had a commentary, and it was a very good one with Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, and producer/writer Carlton Cuse talking seriously about the episode and their approach to their craft. Most enjoyable and eons ahead of the jokey, silly back-and-forth in the first commentary with different participants.
-
I will continue with LOST tonight, but at 9 I will make a segue to DEXTER and watch it "live." Since there are no commercials, that makes it easy.
-
I want some of Bruce's chocolate cake & some of Ginny's caramel corn.
About half of this batch will become gift bags for a craft/talent auction tomorrow evening - c'mon with me and bid on one!
-
OK, sounds like fun.
-
Heading down now to clean my bathroom and then back to the den for more viewing.

My continuing thoughts and prayers to DakotaCelt.

I am glad to read that BK's Birthday Bash was a wonderful success, both in person and by internet.
I went to bed around 8 or so last night, so there were many many pages to catch up on. At first I wondered if we broke the server with so many posts!
-
I am glad your head is feeling better, DR Ginny.
-
I feel younger than springtime and older than Methusala all at once. Who in HELL was Methusala anyway? What did he have to do with old?
He was Noah's Grandpappy amd lived to be 969 years of age - a Bibical record (Beat out his relative Adam who only managed 930 years.)
So, dear bk, to set a record you must continue to post the notes for another 909 years.

-
Thank you, DR Laura. I think it just had too many things rolling around in it that I was worried about getting done. Now that I've completed some of them, I feel a lot better.
-
Der Brucer, can I borrow your mittens?
Mittens? Kittens have mittens, I have wool knitted gloves.
Which gloves I carefully placed by the front door while announncing "I am putting these gloves here in case you need to borrow them!"
der Brucer
Said gloves have gone missing - so Woody found them or Fletcher is on a new wool diet!
The gloves were the result of a panic purchase on a trip. We went to Chicago one December, and we like to stroll about the city and take in the sights - the very first sight we took in was the men's department at Marshall Field's! Chicago do get nippy in December! And those gentle breezes wafting down the thoroughfare gale-force gusts of frigid air roaing down the concrete tunnels they call "cityscape" just add to the "chill of it all".

I think we all owe DR Edisaurus and Jeanne a big round of applause for doing the DVD. ;D
Thank you, Danise.
NOW THAT WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT...
You know, this started out as a way for all the DRs--all the regulars, anyway--to participate in BK's birthday, without being in LA. But it soon became clear to me how much many of our DRs wanted this--not just for Bruce, but because they so love HHW and wanted a visual record of their many good times either on the board or at HHW gatherings. Many people emailed me, saying, "I'm so glad we're doing this."
As most of you know, we put it together in a very short period of time--about five weeks, I'd say. As soon as I asked for photos they came pouring in. We're a very photo-happy group! Many DRs were a bit shy about leaving voice messages; Amy and I were scratching our heads and wondering about all these shy actors. That wasn't helped any by my too-vague wording in the emails. Say "photo" to a DR and you'll have emails galore; say "voice recording"--or, God forbid, "sing"--and, well, we had to lean on folks a bit. But so many of you came through and so gloriously! And, of course, all of this was done on the sly, so as to keep the surprise.
The photos were uploaded by Singdaw and myself. Singdaw has broadband at home and I do not, plus I had to acquire a new ISP in the midst of this. George supplied a great many photos, and converted them to targa files, as well, to save Amy time. Both George and derBrucer provided technical assistance whenever it was needed. Arnold, our HHW Song of the Day person, provided a selection of appropriate songs. It was Larry who, when I approached him with my original idea of doing a CD, redirected me and suggested that Amy could put together a DVD. Plus, it was ALL OF YOU who sent photos and emails and left your voice messages and made this site one worthy of such a project in the first place.
Some of you have already seen our video online. Others have requested a DVD copy. I'll leave it to Amy to decide how open we can be with the online site; it's borrowed and we don't wish to abuse it. We will provide DVD copies, but may ask for a nominal fee, yet to be determined. We'll keep you posted--especially now that we can do so publicly! Much easier!!
I wish to say again how wonderful the response was and how willing everyone was to help. You were all really great! And I THANK ALL OF YOU!!

COLORADO COUNCILWOMAN RESIGNS AFTER REFUSING TO REMOVE OFFENSIVE JOKE FROM WEB SITE (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316250,00.html)
A city councilwoman in Dacono, Colo., has resigned from her post after the mayor of the town said a joke she posted to a community Web log was racist and asked her to remove it from the Web site, MyFoxColorado reported Friday.
The page-long joke, posted by councilwoman Sandra Tucker, described the tale of a white male who has a "nightmare" in which he wakes up to discover that he has "been turned" black, gay, Jewish and disabled. The joke uses terms such as "negro," "queer" and "fairy," and also pokes fun at orphans, Mexicans, Jews, HIV-positive patients, drug addicts and those with physical disabilities.
The punch line of the joke comes when the person having the nightmare also finds out he is a Democrat, a "fate worse" than all the rest.
Shucks sounds like a episode from Desparate Housewives (or a new musical for the NYMF).

Sounds like a good reason to take off and go get a Levain cookie to help clear your head... (not that any reason is really needed to go get a cookie, but I'm just saying...)
Well, I actually did make a stop at Levain earlier while I was out. Today is Bill's birthday. And who is Bill? Why he's the boyfriend of my roommate, Jim. Bill is not much of a cake person, but he does love those Levain cookies, so I bought him a small box as his cake/present. He's working the overnight shift tonight at the hospital - yes, he's a doctor - and he took the box of cookies with him. Smart man!
-
The throwing-out-clutter project (about four large garbage bags worth) has made only about two bags' worth of a dent. But it has helped a little.
-
I also stopped into Jacques Torres to finally sample a treat or two. Well, I decided to give their Chocolate Chip Cookie a try - especially since they had warm(!) ones available. It's a good cookie, but it doesn't displace Levain's creations as my top pick. -However, it is cheaper than Levain, so, I guess that's the trade-off.

And you were ttook aking him to the airport where he might never have arrived to catch a plane that might never have existed. And now he might be there but he might never have gone. With all of that in mind, he didn't really need a ride to the airport since wherever he is right now is more a state of mind than a tangible location.

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316263,00.html)
2 KILLED AT MISSIONARY CENTER IN COLO.; IN SEPARATE CHURCH ATTACK, GUNMAN AND VICTIM DIE
…
ARVADA, Colo. — A gunman killed two staff members at a missionary training center early Sunday after being told he couldn't spend the night, and about 12 hours later, a gunman fatally shot a person at a megachurch in Colorado Springs before a guard killed him, police said.
…
A gunman in a black trench coat and a high-powered rifle entered the church's main foyer about 1 p.m. and began shooting, according to the church member, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the police department had asked that it release all information.
...
And where in the Good Book does it say "Ignore thy police officers and join with the press in obstructing justice"?

Yesterday's matinee was a good show for us...and the 12, yes 12, audience members. ::) There are about 25 people in the cast. :-\ But we still put on a good show. Yesterday's evening performance went well, also, but it helped that we also had a FULL house (they even added a couple of extra chairs!)! They loved it! My friend Margo and co-worker Rick were there. Margo really enjoyed it and Rick told me that he did. But later, I called Margo and she said that Rick was a little hesitant about going. He was in Seattle all day yesterday and didn't necessarily want to sit through a two and a half hour show. Oh, well. He did. I think he really did enjoy it, though.

With all of that in mind, he didn't really need a ride to the airport since wherever he is right now is more a state of mind than a tangible location.
I appreciate this information. It puts things into perspective.
I thought Ron's root canal was tomorrow?

-
I also tried to get on the site this morning with no luck. :(
Wow it looks like i have a lot of posts to catch up on from yesterday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BK!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear you had a great day.
-
That strikes me as funny. I’m obviously far more nosy than you are.
Perhaps, Laura is not aloud to say, for fear that it could endanger the mission.
-
I know I would freeze.
Oh please! If Sherlock can keep you warm in an Alpine snow drift, he could cope with an open window!
der Brucer
Maybe Jose could borrow a dog for the evening

Well, a little pre-medicating can be forgiven.

Or else Jose could rent the movie RESERVOIR DOGS
-
Jose, or anyone, do you know if Whole Foods sells gift certificates? I can't find any on their site.
-
Sherlock only keeps half my body warm. If I'm not quick enough to get the covers just right before he flops, the other half of my body is cold due to lack of said covers on top of me. ;D
-
Or else Jose could rent the movie RESERVOIR DOGS
Riddle me this, Batman: there's a movie called RESERVOIR DOGS, but. . .there are no reservoirs, nor are there dogs.
Is a puzzlement.
-
Jose, or anyone, do you know if Whole Foods sells gift certificates? I can't find any on their site.
Yes, Whole Foods does sell Gift Cards. -And they have these cute little holders that look like small shopping bags too. :)
-
However, they are only sold at the stores at this time. Not online.

Jose, it is easier to stay out of the rest of the apartment & stay in your bedroom. Can you sleep all night with the windows open? I know I would freeze.
Well, another roommate just came home, and she didn't smell any fumes, so... I'm guessing the rain assisting in dissipating the fumes. :)
-
td - The tagline for the film includes the following: "Seven Total Strangers Team Up For The Perfect Crime. They Don't Know Each Other's Name."
The second sentence of that sounds exactly like the reservoir that people have been talking about.
-
Otherwise, it is possible to sleep with the windows cracked open a little bit since they work well. Sometimes too well. -And I think they adjusted the thermostat again.

Whole Foods Gift Cards (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/giftcards/index.html)
Thanks. I searched gift certificates, not cards. I'll call & see if they will send it to me.
I'm trying to figure out what to send Ioana in Romania. I don't want to mail something that requires an international collection at the post office, too much of a hassle for her. Craig suggested a Sephora gift certificate but I can't purchase one from here. I need to ask Craig to call the store in Bucharest & see if they have them. She may never get a Christmas gift.

I need to read Persuasion for my book group discussion. I should have picked up a paperback so I could read it in bed. My copy is in a hardbound collection of Jane Austin novels which is too uncomfortable to hold with my wrist difficulties.

It's her greatest novel, very autobiographical with the happy ending for her heroine Anne Eliot that she herself never had in reality.

Back from The Nutcracker, and am making some halibut and will then watch The Iron Horse.
Has MattH been on at all today? Weird. Or did something happen?

DR elmore, thanks for the reminder on that. I had forgotten. Feel free to pass along anymore insights so I can be brilliant during the discussion.

DR Jane - Is there a Whole Foods close enough to you to make the purchase in person? Otherwise, I know that Whole Foods is one of the stores that sells their gift cards at other stores like Walgreen's, CVS, etc. -Heck, I bought Sears and Home Depot Gift Cards at CVS last year. Very convenient.
-
We wish we had a Whole Foods nearby. Thanks for the suggestion. I can always get someone to send me one so it is ok. I wish I could do the same in Bucharest.
-
We have Whole Foods stores out here. Do you want me to get something for you, Jane?
-
DR Jane - Are you anywhere near Bend, Gresham, Portland (there are three in Portland), or Tigard?
-
OK - I need to stop looking at this computer screen for a bit. It's not helping my headache.
Laters...
-
I'll let you know if I need it, thanks. I'm still not positive I want the gift card, it depends what else we find for Bryan.
-
LOL Jose, we aren't. Bryan is walking distance from the one in Portland, which is why it would make a good gift.
-
I'll go back and check out the posts - I must really have been tired from last night.
-
Let me know. I'll go get one for you if you decide you want one.
-
Halibut was faboo.

Feel better vibes Jose!

DR Laura, your offer is much appreciated. If not now, I'll keep it in mind for future gifts.

Well I DID sing, I just didn't make the cut...maybe that's a good thing ;)
-
I'll admit the BK birthday DVD made me cry - and I was at work the first time I watched it!
When I showed it to DH Richard here at home, he pronounced it "something special."
It made me cry too.
-
The throwing-out-clutter project (about four large garbage bags worth) has made only about two bags' worth of a dent. But it has helped a little.
I'm convinced that my clutter clones itself while I'm sleeping.
-
And I'm very happy that you enjoyed the DVD so much, BK!! Wonderful job, Jeanne and Edisaurus!! I'm glad that I was a part of it! ;D
Thank you, George. I'm glad you were, too!
-
I've had a very busy day, moving snow, chopping ice, walking on the treadmill, doing laundry and spending a couple hours on work for the office. I am sleepy now
-
Perhaps, Laura is not aloud to say, for fear that it could endanger the mission.
;D
-
I've also been doing some thinking about where I am after being open for almost 6 months. I am going to make some adjustments and hire a new assistant in January. I really need some help and there is someone who will be perfect and who has repeatedly asked me if she can work for me. I'm going to call her tomorrow and see if we can start this slowly in January. It'll make it easier for taxes etc if she starts after the end of the year.
-
Many many thanks to DRs Jeanne and Edisaurus for doing a bang-up job with the whole project!
Herding HHWers is like herding cats!
And there were a few cats we didn't catch, but next year we'll release the special anniversary edition with bonus material.
-
Oh, and I'm home!
-
But I think now it's time for me to get some sleep. I have a ton of work to do tomorrow and need to get a good night's sleep
-
Well I DID sing, I just didn't make the cut...maybe that's a good thing ;)
Oh, really? Good for you, Cillaliz! I didn't know that anyone had.
-
Welcome Home Edi! You Rock.
-
The music was great, from beginning to end the DVD was fantastic! Keith & I watched it twice, I'm sure I'll be watching it again. It was funny, touching, and a few moments brought tears to my eyes.
I was really happy to find those particular versions of songs, especially the intrumentals. The "Wonderful Guy" is sung by Florence Henderson, in homage to bk's sitcom years!
-
While I was cleaning my bathroom tonight, I decided to put the Christmas music on hold and I put on that marvelous old RCA Vintage LP with Helen Morgan, Chevalier, Fanny Brice, Bebe Daniels, Everett MArshall, John Boles, and Jeanette MacDonald and just basked in their golden glow.
I'm really looking forward to getting that set of early Ernst Lubitsch musicals that Criterion is putting out in a couple of months.
-
I feel younger than springtime and older than Methusala all at once. Who in HELL was Methusala anyway? What did he have to do with old?
Well, he lived 900 years...
-
I already have my big love cat lying on my arm as I type. I'm glad to be home with him! All kitties are well and happy.
-
BTW, those of you who saw our DVD will have recognized some of Dakota's lovely artwork in it. You can tell I'm a city girl: when she first mentioned to me that she had included some COWS, I was at a loss. Then she said something like, "Well, they ARE a HHW theme." How right she was! Once I stopped hitting my head I had to agree. I'm so glad Amy was able to work them in. We gotta have our cows, by golly!
-
I thought I heard Santa coming down the street. Every year the Fire Department goes around with Santa on a Fire truck but I guess this time it was a real emergency.
Hey, we used to do this in our old neighborhood. My job was keeping kids from getting run over by the truck, which involved inhaling a lot of exhaust.
The celebrations in our new neighborhoo are much more civilized!
Hope there are no fires near you!
-
You gotta milk those cows for all they've got.
-
Welcome home, Amy. Not that you left HHW. It sounds like you had quite an interesting trip.
-
Three more bags o'stuff have made their way to the trash room since my last clutter call.
-
When I finally settled back down in the den, I began watching more LOST episodes. One more commentary came around, the episode dealing with Nikki and Paulo who had just joined the cast this year but supposedly had been on the island with the survivors all along.
-
Well, I drank some water, made some tea (some de-stress, sleepy-time deal with valerian root in it), and stretched out on the couch for a bit. My head feels a lot better now. And now I'm ready for some sleep. Thanks for the vibes.
Goodnight.

I think I just did. ;)
-
The LOST transfers look very sharp and colorful for sDVDs. I wish I could see the Blu-rays to do a comparison, but they do look about as good as TV transfers can look in standard definition.
-
Tomorrow I'll be beginning with episode 16 (out of 23).
-
This kid needs to think about getting some sleep.
Good night.
-
At 9, I did take a little break from the island and watched DEXTER. This was the penultimate episode of the season, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode, and the previews for next week look equally compelling. What a mesmerizing story it has been this season. I have NO idea how it will all work out.

Some of you have already seen our video online. Others have requested a DVD copy. I'll leave it to Amy to decide how open we can be with the online site; it's borrowed and we don't wish to abuse it. We will provide DVD copies, but may ask for a nominal fee, yet to be determined.
I don't want to post the server link on this site, but any DR who wants to see it, please email me or PM me and I'll send you the link.
Likewise, if anyone has a slow connection and needs a DVD, send me your email. I've already sent out a few and will try to get out more this weekend.
If my mailbox gets full, let me know.

I'll admit the BK birthday DVD made me cry - and I was at work the first time I watched it!
Making people cry is my specialty. And sometimes my editing has that effect, too! :)
-
Jose, or anyone, do you know if Whole Foods sells gift certificates? I can't find any on their site.
They do sell them in their stores...always a great gift!
-
Well I DID sing, I just didn't make the cut...maybe that's a good thing ;)
Cilla, your singing was great---I just decided I'd use you in an instrumental section so the singing didn't work there.
But I'll make sure it's on the "Expanded Edition" that we will release on the anniversary! :)
-
It made me cry too.
Actually, it made me cry, too as many times as I saw it. And I do like to tug the heartstrings a bit as well as make people laugh. Gardeners always used to tell me that my gardening show would make then cry at the end, but in a good way.
-

Well then, I want to sing, TOO! Nothing elaborate....a few bars of Sondheim....

Thanks for this...and all the voices of concern over the past day...and be assured I'll face that endodontist with all the steeled nerves you'd expect.
But lordy me it's weighing on me something awful right now!
I've no particular fear of dentistry. Give me no pain and I won't bite the hand holding the drill. But the timing just plain SUX!

Santa made some early rounds today in the offices of the General Services Agency. There will be some surprised folks in the morning.
-
I'm a little teary-eyed right now. I came home to find out that the conductor I assisted for over 10 years for the Atlanta Pops Orchestra died. I wasn't sure if he was still alive (he has been in a home for years---he was 97 and his mother lived to 101!) but it made me sad to know for sure that he isn't.
There will be a memorial service this weekend---I guess I'll find out who from our orchestra is still around.
-
TCM is getting ready to run The Iron Horse right now.
-
One thing I didn't see in the video...which might be possible in the expanded edition....was a "visual" of a plate (or pot or bowl) of "wacky noodles."
Or....were they in there and I just didn't know what I was seeing?
And oh-my-gracious-sakes-alive! Could there have BEEN more photos of folks sitting at dinner tables? :D
Food...it does a body good!
-

I have absolutely no complaints about the way you did the DVD, Edi, I love it... of course it would be a shame not to put iton the expanded edition, wouldn't it ;D

Well, I for one have expanded tremendously since I've been on HHW.

Had a very busy day today. Got some Christmas shopping done for the youngin's down yonder in Southern Oregon, and after a meal at Star India I came home and built the second bookcase (having built the first one last month).
No must get to bed. I must be up early in the morning to pick up my mom and take her to her 8:00 am doctor appointment.

I've friends who have just returned from Croatia. They really enjoyed their time there. I think they also travelled along the Dalmation coast looking for Spotted dog. (almost an English culinary reference)

The evening birthday cake was entirely different than the afternoon Parisienne cake. I don't know what the evening cake was called, other than cake.
It was a chocolate cake with strawberry pieces in the filling and a Ganache covering - hows that for a word of the day!
-
The cake DID have a name, as a matter of fact. The name was Chocolate Cake With Strawberry Pieces In The Filling And A Ganache Covering.

Can I ask for an opinion
Am I over reacting to think that it is rather rude for co-workers, especially those I work with not even to acknowledge my loss?
The only consolation to the inepitude of co-workers was the lovely words I got from a couple of individuals at the library and my student workers.....
Really sad actually when my sisters place of employment even sent an arrangement and NDSU libraries could not even acknowledge the hardship and loss i experienced.
I am however thankful for HHW and many other firends who have been there. EVidently, NDSU libraries is more heartless than I thought.

...EVidently, NDSU libraries is more heartless than I thought.
Probably more disorganized, and perhaps disinterested, than heartless. Does you organization have no policy for acknowledgements of deaths/births/marriages? Absent a stated policy, the chore usually falls upon the Department Manager's secretary (now probably an executive assistant).

no but it would have been nice. I consider my student workers freinds and the one ref librarian who did send a card
-
Be careful using the term "mate" - it's also derogatory!
This is news to me over here in Yankland. We get "mated" to death in Aussie movies and by Aussie performers.
In what usage is "mate" deemed derogatory?
-
Maybe I am over reacting.... It has been a very stressful week
Sleep has been fleeting...
HHW has been a blessing, if you guys here only knew how much your kind words and thoughts have meant to me. I have GREATLY appreciated them. You guys are gems in more ways than one and THis also includes the lovely ladies on the board....
I could feel the loving vibes from this board... I appreciated it
-
I wonder how George's full weekend of performances went!
He posted about 6 PM:
Yesterday's matinee was a good show for us...and the 12, yes 12, audience members. There are about 25 people in the cast. But we still put on a good show.

Cards get passed around in my workplace all the time. Mostly they are for birthdays, but sometimes they are for sympathy.
I generally know most of our employeess by name, though I seldom work "with" most of them or spend time with them. If a sympathy card gets presented to me, I'll sign it but I always wonder whether the employee would consider my comments sincere since I don't know them well.
