Good morning, all! Today I finish up the chart for Ashley Brown. I sat down and looked over what I'd scored last night and decided I disliked a lot of it, so today comsists of scoring the last 50 bars and revising the first 100. I think some of it's fine and some can definitely use a bit of rewriting and thinning.
I have a Men's Chorus reheatsal tonight at Riverside Church at 7:00, and I believe I shall take a copy of Twiggy's LONDON PRIDE recording and give it to Joanna Gleason, since we were talking about period singers and friends who sang last Wednesday. She's been working with the Chorus for several years now as stage director, and she's quite lovely.
DR Adrianna, the photos were wonderful and you always look glamorous in my book so all I saw was another beautiful photo of you.
DR Dakotacelt, you wrote last night:
Am I over reacting to think that it is rather rude for co-workers, especially those I work with not even to acknowledge my loss?
When my dad died in February, I received neither cards, acknowledgments, nor phone calls from anyone in the Packard Humanities Institute, for whom I've worked the past six years, or from my group of music librarians with whom I've attended a monthly dinner for the past 100 years. And, yes, my feelings were hurt a great deal by it. My immediate co-workers in the Toyland office were wonderful, but I was surprised at the lack of response from the Big Man himself or the California office. As to a group of librarians I've considered buddies for years, I was quite a bit shocked.

Monday morning greetings! Today would ordinarily be my day off, but I switched it to tomorrow because I have a midday meeting today. After the meeting I'm taking the rest of the day off to do some Christmas shopping and have dinner with a friend. This evening she and I will go to the craft/talent auction, at which she's the auctioneer.
So, I'll be E & T much of today, but couldn't miss saying:
Happiest of Birthdays, DR MBarnum!
-
Today I must purchase a gift for my sister and get it mailed. I have been ignoring Christmas since October, and now it is creeping up on me.

DR Dakota Celt,
Some people just don't know how to express themselfs when someone is going through a something like we have. No one should experence the loss of a parent.
I had people come up to me about 3 months after Mom passed and tell me that they wanted to say something but they didn't know what. I still can't believe how I broke down on the bus when I was telling one person what happened to Mom. And maybe that's what people are afraid will happen.
I thank God for HHW for being there for me and helping me get through it. I still have my days.
One thing about working for the government, I got 3 days of paid leave. Some people try to abuse it--how many times can the same family member pass away? It always amazes me what people will try to get away with.
-
Der B--that story about that little boy who fell under the float--that happened in Plant City--which is a little city just to the east of where I live. About 7-8 miles. I saw the story on the local news and it just broke my heart.

CONGRATULATIONS to bk and DR dB on your posting milestones!
And thanks for the good wishes on mine! :)
-
DR Adriana Patti - THANK YOU for posting those photos of the various "do's"!!! :D
-
I agree with you, DR Danise - Sometimes people just don't say anthing because they are uncomfortable confronting grief, or they truly don't know what to say.
-
Well, I have to go. Before my surgery, I was set up to have a blood draw in December. I guess I'd better go get that done while I'm off. If I ever make it back to work, I won't have time to take off for any thing until I get the chance to build up some leave time.
I have a 2 o'clock appointment with the doctor. I was hoping I could go back to work tomorrow but somehow I don't think that is going to happen.

I plan to continue today with LOST. I'll be starting with episode 16, but I doubt I'll be able to get the rest of the box set finished today. (Disc 7 is totally devoted to special features and there appear to be hours of them.)
-
I'm expecting the new Criterion TWO-LANE BLACKTOP in the mail today. It comes out tomorrow in stores, but I won't be able to get to it until I finish with LOST. I also have the first season of DIRT waiting to be watched.

You are having an Arizona winter day, DR Matt.
It's simply astonishing. I don't remember a December this warm! We're supposed to have this for much of this week.
-
My favorite silent film would have to be CITY LIGHTS which I consider one of the greatest films ever made.
Of course, I've sung the praises of THE CIRCUS here for many years, so it ranks right up there too. I love SHOW BUSINESS with William Haines and Marion Davies. BEN-HUR is stirring and every bit as entertaining as the 1959 version at about half the length.
And Keaton's films SHERLOCK JR. (which may have been my first silent, I have a hard time remembering), THE GENERAL, and STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. are also great favorites.
-
Happy Birthday, Mike.
-
And I guess I can't forget SUNRISE and BROKEN BLOSSOMS and a couple of Valentino's later pictures THE EAGLE and COBRA which I really enjoyed.
Yep, Chaney's films and Fairbanks' are wonderful fun, but I can't say I have a favorite. I haven't seen enough of them honestly.
-
Just a reminder:
all of CBS' slate tonight (I believe) contains new episodes of the comedies and CSI: MIAMI. JOURNEYMAN on NBC is also new tonight. I believe this is the last episode of that particular series. Unlike LIFE and CHUCK, it has not been renewed for the rest of the season, so even if the strike ends, I suspect tonight's show is the last we'll see.
-
Golly, so much to catch up on (including much eye-catching stuff that up probably likes being caught on) practically first thing in the morning.
It must be the birthday of the sweetest guy on HHW. Happy birthday, Mike Barnum, and many many more!
-
Plateau congrats to BK and to singdaw!

I'm getting a bit detached in this analysis, since I've often wondered about it and have discussed it with people I work with - this is not my personal view, just my impression of people's views, and I'll be careful how I word this because I'd prefer that no parts of this quoted out of context. My impression has been that, for people I've worked with, the death of a spouse or a child is considered a major tragedy in a working-age person's life, while the death of a parent, again for people I've worked with, is treated like a general fact of life, and one that will happen to just about everybody at some point. It is somewhat akin to treatment of deaths in the family for schoolchidren - deaths of a parent or sibling are considered major tragedies, while death of a grandparent is treated by the school and classmates like something the schoolchild just has to get over and little slack is cut by the school.
-
Good root canal wishes for DR Ron Pulliam!
I've had two in my life, and they honestly weren't bad at all. I was in rehearsal for FOREVER PLAID when I had the last one done, and I went to rehearsal that night!

DAKOTA,
I don't think you overreacted. I think your reaction was a normal one. Unfortunately, many, many people are rude these days, IMHO. I concur with those who say that people are often disorganzied, that these responsibilites--if they're considered that--are often left to others. I also concur with FJL; I believe that hearing of a death makes many people very uncomfortable--it's too close to home--and they sometimes experience some emotional paralysis as a result. And, yes, when an older person dies, even if it's not a parent, people can be quite callous. After the death of someone I was close to, one friend of mine said to me, "Well, he was old, wasn't he?" (No, he wasn't.)
It's often difficult to know what to say at these times. And sometimes, too, people are having so much difficulty coping that they really don't want to talk about it, particularly at work. When my dad died, I appreciated the words of condolence, but no, I didn't want to talk about it. I needed time alone.
-
Must go to the Post Office and run some other errands.
WBBL.
-
I love most of Chaplin's silent films, and also most of Harold Lloyd and Keaton. Sunrise is great, and there are a couple of Von Sternberg silents that are visually wonderful. Sorry to say I've never gotten into Griffith, so I may have to reinvestigate those at some point - De Mille, too. The Wind was very good.
-
Dakota, I agree with FJL as to the order of reactions to losses, and since your co-workers hardly acknowledged the loss of a spouse I wouldn’t expect much from them. They could at least express their condolences & I’m very sorry you have to work with such thoughtless people. I can only hope it is thoughtlessness & not lack of caring.
As for the students, whom are likely younger, they may not understand the loss of a parent and are still at the awkward age to express their sympathy-just my guess not knowing the situations.
As difficult as this time is for you, I think how lucky you have been to have a father you love dearly & to have spent quality time with him over the last months.
-
Favorite silent movies are:
Berlin
Metropolis
Piccadilly
Sunrise
I don't remember what the earliest silent movies were that I've seen. I remember watching movies of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd, but I don't remember any specific titles.
-
Dakota I enjoyed your artwork on the DVD. :)

JMK - I was a little shocked at first (as in, did I really say that? :) ), but you did make me laugh on a subject that i find very serious, so kudos to you!
I was just doing a little riff on those old Mad magazine parodies of movie/theater reviews, where the original review was awful and they'd pull three words to make it sound great. Sorry if I shocked you. :)
-
Some political incorrectness of my own for FJL to take out of context department ;D: I know this will probably offend some, but I find it divine justice of some sort that what started this whole (admittedly horrible) shooting spree at Ted Haggard's former church was the church not allowing the homeless (yet armed) man to stay there during a storm. "No room at the inn," indeed.

Hi all!
I'm glad to read that DR Ron didn't have such a hard time with the root canel after all.
I remember how worried I was when I had one a few years back but all of you told me not to sweat it and you were right! :)

Checking our list of DVDs, der Brucer and I have a bit of Chaplin in our collection, some Keaton, some early Hitchcock, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
I can remember seeing a few silent comedies on television when I was growing up. Sad, that today's kids aren't exposed to any of that, instead getting a regular diet of Spongebob Squarepants and The Fairly Odd Parents. The older grandlad can regularly be found staring at the television, mouth hanging open as if he's being hypnotized. The younger grandlad, fortunately, isn't as hooked and prefers to spend his time playing.
Hmmm... I just realized that their mother, Magic Mommy, gets the same look on her face whenever she's watching Cops.
-
I, too, am amazed that Ron is able to eat so soon. Must be a good sign!
-
Well, the doctor said I can go to back to work! I'm happy and sad. I'm still not healed enough to do anything big. I'm not allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds but I am healing.
And I can drive. Good thing since I drove myself to his office.
So, this is the last weekday you will see me post for quite a long, long, long time.
-
I mostly feel sorry for the dogs. They are not going to understand what the heck is going on. They are used to me being home with them (and handing out treats ::) ) all day.
Life is gonna get hard. ;D

Vibes to all those having dental work of any sort
...and to those who shudder at even the thought of such!
Comfort and healing to you!

Der Brucer cannot remember watching any silent film from beginning to end. Snippets, yes, but not a full film.
Correction - he thinks he's seen City Lights.
-
He is now nagging me about getting to the market early. I think he's hungry.

Good news from DR RLP.
Congrats to MR BK on 33,000+ posts.
-
yes DR MBARNUM we practiced for hours.....
-
Mr. Murphy is still not here, but is on his way, which probably means another ten minutes or so. Lunch is now iffy, since he has to be at some airport at three.
-
Congrats to Danise!
Remember to take things slooowly. People usually think they can do more than they really can after being inactive for a while. That's my experience, anyway.

I will, thanks. I'm glad that it will be a short week for me. I would have hated to face a full 5 days.
-
Hello hello! Yes, I've been errant and truant WAY too long. However, I figured out why. Both schools I work at have heavy internet filters, so I can't post on any message board. In that respect it's hard to get into a routine each day.
To catch up, we opened the Menken/Ahrens A Christmas Carol - The Musical on Friday, and it's a great show. Tight, fun, and everyone seems to love it. Its the second year in row that this theatre has done this version and it's the 22nd year of doing "A Christmas Carol". They started with an early stage version of the movie "Scrooge", and things morphed over the years and finally they made a change last year. Its a good show.
Everything else is going well. The DP and I are in the kitchen today making holiday treats. I just got done with a batch of peppermint marshmallows and two batches of peanut brittle (one with cinnamon and cayenne) all while listening to Susan Egan's Christmas CD which is awesome.
Back to the kitchen.
-
Thanks for the report DR MATTHEW......great choices the theatre made. We have a theatre that alternates JOSEPH/DREAMCOAT and CINDERELLA for the holidays.
-
This year it's JOSEPH and tickets are $34.
-
I can't believe you're able to eat right after that, Ron! Amazing!
I'm a Hainsie, JMK. I can eat ANYtime, ANYwhere.
:D
-
Fourteen days until Christmas. ;D
-
I, too, am amazed that Ron is able to eat so soon. Must be a good sign!
I didn't have anything that was too chewy. A (thinly sliced) smoked turkey on a soft, freshly baked croissant.
-
Hello, Hello to DR Mathew and his DP! So when can I expect a shipment of
cookies? :) I meant treats. Peanut brittle sounds great to me!
-
I'm up for a nap right now.
Or is that "down" for a nap right now?
-
Oh, I'm just sitting here and not thinking! I need to go to the store and get something for my breakfast and lunches!
I have to make a run to the store!
Laters all!
-
Unless you are a horse....it's down.
-
DR JMK - I got a couple of TV Guides from spring, 1960, and it seems that Friday was the day that Ms. Frances Farmer was broadcast in color. I think her sequences were always in color, but maybe Friday the movie was in color, too.
-
I'm a Hainsie, JMK. I can eat ANYtime, ANYwhere.

I thought Vixmom posted that she had a root canal. On BK's birthday, perhaps?
-
Does anyone else find it interesting that DR SINGDAW is able to post extensively while at work, but while his DP is attending a conference, he cannot? Vacation, I can understand. Perhaps someone should enlighten me. Then again, perhaps not. :)
-
I thought Vixmom posted that she had a root canal. On BK's birthday, perhaps?
IIRC, yes, it was on Saturday. But I didn't have the impression it was a root canal. I thought she just said "dentist."
-
I thought Vixmom posted that she had a root canal. On BK's birthday, perhaps?
Well, that was an original way to celebrate!
-
I stand corrected. She was tortured for several hours at the dentist, which I guess I understood was a root canal.
-
As has been the case lately, it was a very late lunch, so viewing time this afternoon was a wee bit compromised.
At lunch, I had to roll up the sleeves on my long sleeved shirt because it was so warm. What an amazing day here!
-
I was able to watch three more episodes of LOST this afternoon, all fascinating and mesmerizing episodes. Even though I saw every one of these when originally aired, I'm still caught off guard by certain things that I had forgotten about. What a great show.
I noticed in this week's ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, Stephen King rates LOST as the best show on television for 2007. I love lots of shows, but I'd have a hard time disagreeing with him.
-
Did I actually leave here without sending my wishes to our SWEET, SEXY, HUNKY Mike Barnum??? Horrors!!!
In my best Gomer Pyle voice: "Shame, shame, shame!"
-
Page Seven Harry Potter Dance!!!
-
When I go back downstairs, I'll be beginning episode #19. I should be able to finish with the episodes tonight before JOURNEYMAN.
-
I just read that the next MGM musical box from Warners will be released in April and will contain 9 musicals:
Hit The Deck, Kismet, and Deep in My Heart, three 2-disc double feature sets: Broadway Melody of 1936/ Broadway Melody of 1938 and Born to Dance/Lady Be Good, Nancy Goes To Rio/Two Weeks With Love.
-
I'm a Hainsie, JMK. I can eat ANYtime, ANYwhere.
:D
That very topic is covered in the HHW tribology manual under the chapter titled:
"Fish, Levains, Monkey Cake, Ranch Dressing, and Other Food Stuffs" where you will find research by the renown foodcologist Guylius K. Haines, the great-grandfather of the infamous. I mean, famous Guy Haines. His theory, with years of documenation, was "a true HHWer can eat any time, any where, any place." So DR RonnieP was just paraphrasing old Guylius...
-
I didn't have anything that was too chewy. A (thinly sliced) smoked turkey on a soft, freshly baked croissant.
Processed on "pulverize" in your Osterizer. ;)
-
Thank you SWW and Jeanne for even more wonderful Birthday messages!!

I just found out I'm reviewing this for DVDTalk. So to save time, please email me your review without your byline. ;)
Seriously, we loved the third season (maybe aside from the Nikki & Paulo ep, LOL), and I can't wait to explore the new DVD set. DVDTalk seems to be a little behind HTF (probably because of their recent sale--screeners have gotten shipped all over the place by mistake), so hopefully mine will be here before February when the new season starts. ;)

Back from a fantastic barbecue lunch - this place is really the berries. Cason and I discussed LACCTAA business mostly and a good time was had by all.

Carolyn Keene is screaming in her grave department:

TOD:
Back in my JR High days my buddy Dave and I had quite a curiosity about silent films, and thanks to PBS we found opportunities to see a few.
If I am not mistaken, my first was CABINET OF DR CALIGARI.
-
Back from a fantastic barbecue lunch - this place is really the berries. Cason and I discussed LACCTAA business mostly and a good time was had by all.
Next time we're out in LA we'll have to go. We're BBQ fans and always like to compare regional BBQ to what we have here in the homeland.
-
As for favorite silent films THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and THE TEN COMMANDMENTS are favorites.
-
Does anyone else find it interesting that DR SINGDAW is able to post extensively while at work, but while his DP is attending a conference, he cannot? Vacation, I can understand. Perhaps someone should enlighten me. Then again, perhaps not. :)
We need to check with JRand on this one, but it has something to do with the HHW time/space continuum (probably something to do with Uranus retrograding or bumping into Mars or something) and how it creates that phenomenon where when you're logged on at work us HHWers are exciting, beguiling, stimulating, interesting, and hypnotically magical, whereas when you log on while on vacation we appear boring, stale and old like yesterday's news.
-
LOL DR Karen!!!
-
Just finished a batch of this (http://www.pauladeen.com/recipe_view/440")
We'll see how it goes.
-
DR MBarnum:
Janam Din ki badhai!
Janam Din ki shubkamnaayein!
-
My favorite silent movies:
Mel Brooks' SILENT MOVIE
METROPOLIS
NOSFERATU
BEN-HUR
THE LOST WORLD
GREED
SUNRISE
-
Yep, that SingSong Phenomenon is covered in the tribology manual, too:
Who knew? Old Guylius was a renown physicist AND astrologer, too (a real renaissance man). In the chapter titled "Uranus and Black Holes: Their Impact On the HHW Time Space Continuum," Guylius discussed his theory of "The Relativity of Interest" which found, "That when you're bored at work, you'll find HHWers fascinating as hell, but if you're having fun on vacation, well, you'll find HHWers boring as hell (i.e. work)."
-

By ALL two of you, or the entire joint?

Does anyone have any DDD discount codes?
-
Back from a couple of errands. The mail at the mail place STILL hasn't been put out, because the USPS delivers it later and later every day, even though, being a mail place, they're supposed to get it first thing in the morning.
-
Does anyone have any DDD discount codes?
What's a DDD discount code?
-
Sleepy from the sandwich and beans and fries. Oh, and I tried the sweet potato fries this time and they were beyond delicious.
-
Plus, you know how sometimes you'll have a great meal at a new jernt and then the second visit is frequently a disappointment - no such problem here.
-
I just found out I'm reviewing this for DVDTalk. So to save time, please email me your review without your byline. ;)

LOL! The review is already well on its way to be written even with five episodes left.
BTW, the DVDs look wonderful, but I have to admit I was disappointed I wasn't sent the Blu-ray version review copies instead of the sDVD. Ah, well.

Does anyone have any DDD discount codes?
"No longer valid" ;D

I must not write one more post without wishing MBarnum, absolutely the nicest person on the planet, a happy birthday.
May Ganesh bless you in the upcoming year and beyond!
-
And here are some more friends with a birthday card for you!
-
Spoo -- I had been spelling ol' Guylius's name wrong, so had to modify the posts. Glad I caught that before Guy saw it -- wouldn't want to be insulting nor disrespectful to the old family name ...

And one for masala!

Heading down now to start tonight's viewing of more LOST episodes.
WBBL.
-
Some of the lurkers here are actually nice department: I just got the coolest email from someone who listened to the MP3 I posted a link to the other day of my bossa nova version of "Greensleeves." What a nice, unexpected surprise. Thank you, kind lurker. ;D

Don't tell me if they get found this season. It would spoil everything for February.

Edisaurus - we're all having tremendous difficulty posting those clips to You Tube - I can't do it without downloading some software I don't want or understand, and Cason can't do it off a DVD I burned for him with the Quick Time files. Hence, can you do it? It's easy to create an account and you have the stuff and can make them to the You Tube specs.
-
Can you tell me what the problem is? Then I will know which path to take...
I did these at the original resolution, wich is not full res, but they may still be too big. I can't shrink them at home but I may be able to prevail upon the place where I posted the birthday video if I bride them again...
-
Anyone who asked for a DVD, I'm sending them in a sleeve instead of a jewelcase, as those don't survive shipping very well. I will email you the cover I did if you want to have a fancier label. (I don't have a label program...)
PM me off list if you want me to send it.
-
I have never uploaded anything to YouTube.
-
The score for Ashley Brown and its revisions are finished. I think it's much better now and tomorrow I shall drop it off at the stage door for the MD.
I must now ready myself for my trek up to Riverside Church for the Men's Chorus rehearsal. I look forward to seeing my beloved harpist Karen Lindquist; besides being a fabulous musician, she's always good for a lot of laughs and I love rehearsals with her.
-
You just have to see it to believe it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbvWdVj4vGU

Ah, I see the problem---they have a limit of 100mb, which is why YouTube generally looks so crappy. Your files are 600-800. I didn't have time to look at YouTube's specs...I was sort of busy editing up until it was time to leave.
I don't have a way to resize here but I should be able to do it on Friday. The place I'm working for the next few days is new and I don't have friends there to beg favors from, but I'll see what I can do. :-)

DR Adriana Patti - THANK YOU for posting those photos of the various "do's"!!! :D
Too bad she has none of the various "don'ts".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BOLLYWOOD BARNUM!!!!!!!
-
I'm a Hainsie, JMK. I can eat ANYtime, ANYwhere.
:D
ROTFLOL!
-
DENTAL CLARIFICATION
I did not have a root canal.. I "celebrated" BK's birthday by having several old fillings in various molars removed and replaced... my jaw still aches as many of the fillings were right at the gumline
I am very glad to hear that RLP's root canal went well!!!
-
and now I must bring the Vixter to choir rehearsal
-
Sleepy from the sandwich and beans and fries. Oh, and I tried the sweet potato fries this time and they were beyond delicious.
I thought Matt was making me hungry with his baking. Beyond delicious sweet potato fries-I WANT SOME!
-
Sorry DR Jeanne - I didn't go into the nitty gritty because I didn't know that anyone really cared.
The conference starts Wednesday - the day I fly home - in San Diego. The DH and I are taking a few days of vacation in nearby La Jolla before it starts. And today was a gorgeous day - mid 60's, sunny, not a cloud in the sky. We napped, ate delicious food, window-shopped, and strolled by the sea, taking in the seals and the pelicans. Just a really wonderful, relaxing time.
DR JoseSPiano - thanks for the offer. I'm not going to be in San Diego proper long enough to take you up on your offer, but next time I get back here I definitely want to!!!

Well, this agenda makes infinitely more sense.
Sounds like you had a really nice time! That was my old stomping ground for a while, you know.

What a THRILL, finally, to be getting "Deep in my Heart" and the "Broadway Melody" films (especially the 1938 with Judy Garland and Buddy Ebsen). The others are fun, too, lest you think I'm sniffing at them.
-
Don't tell me if they get found this season. It would spoil everything for February.
SPOILER?
I don't know if you've watched this (3rd) season MattH is reviewing or not, so I don't know whether your comment was tongue-in-cheek or "for real". If the latter, don't read further!!!!
SPOILER !
They, did, however, get found. Only it seems that "them what found 'em" don't especially want to help them.
Sometimes, it's better to stay "lost". ;D
-
Good Evening!
Well, the set of auditions I played today went very well. Sort of better than expected. We saw some cute, cute, cute(!!!) kids today, and a couple of them were actually talented too! :)
-
What's a DDD discount code?
It's a code entered into a special nationwide database whenever a lady buys a DDD cup undergarment! She gets a discount, and it alerts menfolk to her existence.
-
MBarnum, in honor of your birthday I went to Bi-Mart.
-
When my mother was killed, both my sister were off work for just one week. The day my sister went back to work, one of her co-workers came over to her cubicle and found her crying. The co-worker's reaction?
"My God, aren't you over that yet?"
-
...Then I just wandered around midtown for a bit. Grabbed a bite to eat at West Side Cottage II - and, yes, I had the Sesame Nooddles. And there was a gentleman at one of the front tables who had a very loud voice, but actually was kind of entertaining and funny. I'm still not sure if he was doing some schtick, or if he was just one of those "crazy New Yorkers". Or both.
I then wandered up to Lincoln Center. Prokofiev's War And Peace is there tonight. I almost bought a ticket. Then I almost took a freebie from one of the various people on the plaza giving and/or selling extra tickets. However, as much as I would like to see the production, I just wasn't prepared to sit through a four hour and fifteen(!) minute opera tonight.
After some more walking and window-shopping, I hopped on the 1 Train at 96th Street, and hopped off at 145th. And here I am.
-
As for "Lost" in February...
Well, since the WGA strike is still going on, you may have to wait until until February 2009(!) before any new episodes are broadcast. :-\
-
And here are some more friends with a birthday card for you!
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

-
I then wandered up to Lincoln Center. Then I almost took a freebie from one of the various people on the plaza giving and/or selling extra tickets.
For a brief moment, there, I totally thought you were talking about a "pickup"!
-
DR MissKaren - As for Guylius and the "tribology"...
Prescription or home-grown?
;D
-
It's dinner time and I'm undecided (oh, yes! I'm UNDECIDED) as to what I want.
First, I have this desire to visit my office and see if I got any mail. And for some odd reason, I have "pra ram pork" on my mind, although I totally don't want to be chewing pork tonight.
Spaghetti will probably do nicely. But then I don't have any garlic toast and must travel to find some.
-
For a brief moment, there, I totally thought you were talking about a "pickup"!
Again, I said "Lincoln Center". Not The Reservoir.
-
I am looking forward (one last time) to a new episode of "Journeman."
And I hope Kevin McKidd's next U.S. television venture will be more successful, but will still be as interesting and well-made as this series was.
-
Again, I said "Lincoln Center". Not The Reservoir.
Ah-HAH!
;D
But that does not, in my mind, preclude a Lincoln Center pickup. It only means you'd have to go somewhere "else".
-
DR Ron Pulliam - Good to hear that your root canal went well, and that you seem to be in quite a good post-procedure state too.
-
Speaking for myself... I've never had any major dental work done. My wisdom teeth grew in with no problems. I've never had a root canal. Heck, I've never even had a cavity.
-Must be the cookies. ;D
-
I now have 48 hours to go until I must proceed forthwith to the San Francisco Airport. My plane leaves Wednesday at 11:40 p.m.
The "hollies" loom bright!
-
DR Ron Pulliam - Good to hear that your root canal went well, and that you seem to be in quite a good post-procedure state too.
I thought you'd be glad to learn I still have a bitch-slap or two in me! :D

You STILL have those wisdom teeth? ;D
You are truly blessed, genetically, Jose! And let me encourage you, should it not be much of a "big thing" to you or not, to FLOSS, FLOSS, FLOSS. Every day. After each meal. FLOSS. :)
At your age, it's easy to say, "Oh, please!" 8)
But....when things start "goin' south", they don't deviate from their course. They might stop and "set a spell", but they eventually pick up and continue on. :P

She who hesitates...pays more $.
Or you could check:
J&R Music & Computer World (http://www.jr.com/)
*They're running some decent sales right now. I'm not sure how S&H works for them, but you might break even with some of their specials.
Overstock (http://www.overstock.com)
Etc., Etc., Etc.

It's genetics. Both of my parents have pretty good dental health records. However, my two youngest brothers seemed to be cavity prone when they were younger. And the youngest, had his wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago. It was not pretty.
-
And, yes, I do FLOSS, FLOSS, FLOSS!
-
Ciao-ders for now-ders!
-
DR Danise - Good to hear that your doctor gave your the all clear to head back to work. Now, just take it easy and be careful so that you don't have to go back to your doctor sooner than planned. :)
-And I'm sure your dogs will just love you soooo much more when you come home at the end of the day. :D

TOD: Like the Birthday Boy, PBS was showing a lot of silent films while I was in high school, and I had friends who enjoyed them, so we'd get togethr and watch whatever we could see. I never thought anything odd about the films or the fact they were silent. The well-made ones didn't need sound. you had to see the Battleship Potemkin (it's required; isn;t it?) but I loved seeing a look in Valenino's eyes, and you knew why he was a star and why they still talked about him or the flesh and blood of Clara Bow and how bright and natural she was. I heard Lilliain Gish lecture and show clips from her films (a few times). You could see why she was a star; she made it all real. Billy Haines was so natural onscreen, and they all looked like they were having so much fun. You can see the skill Chaplin had, and Harold lloyd and Laurel and Hardy. Harold Lang too (although he isn't as well-remembered) I had heard about all the stars and movies, so I wanted to see what made them so special. Some people you think of as grand turned out to be nothing, and others who are barely remembered were something truly great.
"Sunrise" is one my favorites because it surpasses all that I had read of it (and it is praised a lot), and I was not disappointed.
-
It's a code entered into a special nationwide database whenever a lady buys a DDD cup undergarment! She gets a discount, and it alerts menfolk to her existence.

My favorite silent film is THE GENERAL, partly because I love anything Keaton and partly because the incident took place a few blocks from my house in Marietta. Mariettans in the know have always considered it "our" film.
-
I don't know why I didn't think of this before, as it's not that big of a file.
Instead of mailing each DR indivifually, I will post the DVD label here and people can download it to their desktop. (Resize accordingly...I left white at top and bottom of bk's.)

Jose: Everyone has dental trouble but me. (steps out of Ron P's dressing room to sing "Jose's Turn")

Oh Good Heavens, I haven't been on all day and I can't miss saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! to MBarnum, one of the sweetest and cutest guys I know.

TCB-Talk about thoughtless! Your poor sister. I hope your co-workers were kinder to you.

Back to work and healing vibes for Danise!

Elmore, what did you do for Ashley Brown?
"Feed the Birds" and "Our time"

For a brief moment, there, I totally thought you were talking about a "pickup"!
Our DR Jose doesn't take freebies. He gives them.

FromCilla:Best Wishes it works out & you really find the perfect assistant!
Thanks Jane. I offered Martha (different Martha than I've ever talked about- I really need to assign them numbers) the job this morning and she said yes. She's going to start January 7th. It was too big a pain to do all the employee tax stuff for a couple weeks in 2007. She'll start at 15 hours a week - 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. She has another part time job in the afternoon, but is hoping mine will go to full time fairly quickly. I hope so too. She has all the skills that my last assistant didn't plus she is also fluent in Spanish. She's got experience and is great to be around. She has been wanting to work for me for a long time. I think she's stopped in about 5 times and her current employer (who is going to Louisiana to get married and start a new life) speaks very highly about her.
I'm glad. It will make things a lot easier for me. There is so much paperwork to do with fee claims etc. They take forever and are a pain in the butt. She's been doing them for years and will probably fly right through them. This will work.
-
That sounds good, Cillaliz.
-
"Feed the Birds" and "Our time"
A medley, one presumes.

Maybe not all of us want the lurkers to be able to access the video.
I absolutely do NOT want any lurkers to access the video. The guy who compressed it and posted did me a HUGE favor---they usually charge quite a bit, and the folks who own the server don't know it's up there. I don't want too many hits sending off red flags. I will be taking it down in a week, so any of our regulars who want to download the quicktime from the link, act now!
A lurker CAN ask for a DVD, but I may ask to be reimbursed for expenses, because although 5 or 6 bucks doesn't seem like enough $ to bother with, and it seems stupid to even ask, it does add up quickly, and there are more expenses than just postage (itunes, DVD stock, sleeves and padded envelopes etc.) And it's time consuming to burn DVD's (as George knows!)
So far everyone who has asked I consider a friend and am happy to dub and send to them because most of them have done favors for me in the past and I'm glad to be able to do something in return.
If anyone wants to download it and has the ability to host it somewhere else, that would solve that problem, although I think DR Laura makes a very valid point, and bk should make the ultimate decision about how far he wants it to travel, since it's his bd gift!

As for "Lost" in February...
Well, since the WGA strike is still going on, you may have to wait until until February 2009(!) before any new episodes are broadcast. :-\
8 have been filmed thus far (which was half of the planned 16 episode fourth season). As far as I know, ABC plans to show those.
-
DR elmore - Do you want to meet up for dinner tomorrow before the concert?
-
I thought you posted the link on your post on the last page, Edisaurus. I didn't realize that was just a photo.
-
A medley, one presumes.
Two different numbers.
-
I did finish the last four episodes of LOST. Besides the exciting action and wonderful surprises these final episodes contained, they were also unexpectedly moving in many ways. What a joy this show is!
-
Boo is snoring while sitting on my lap. Don't think I've heard her snore before

DR elmore - Do you want to meet up for dinner tomorrow before the concert?
I would love to, but it all depends on what time I get back from the dress rehearsal.
-
Next, I began watching the bonus features on the seventh disc in the set. I've watched four different selections, and they've all been anamorphic. Kudos to ABC for this.
-
I would love to, but it all depends on what time I get back from the dress rehearsal.
Gotcha.
-
I watched today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No gay characters. Alas. Not in the previews either.
-
BK - I use iChat from time to time. Anything in particular you have a question about?
-
JOURNEYMAN was wonderful tonight. And there's a new episode next week! Hooray!

JOURNEYMAN was wonderful tonight. And there's a new episode next week! Hooray!
I really like this show, too...I'd better start watching it, though. I have several episodes on my DVR.
-
We're supposed to get another 3-4 inches of snow tonight...at least it isn't ice. Mom told me my sister has no power in Joplin...which means jhvw has no power.
-
With all the ice storms this year, I am very glad I cut down the rotten trees this year.
-
Some political incorrectness of my own for FJL to take out of context department ;D: I know this will probably offend some, but I find it divine justice of some sort that what started this whole (admittedly horrible) shooting spree at Ted Haggard's former church was the church not allowing the homeless (yet armed) man to stay there during a storm. "No room at the inn," indeed.
Seems there is a bit more complexity to the tale:
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316322,00.html)
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The gunman believed to have killed four people in a pair of shooting sprees at a megachurch in Colorado Springs and a missionary training school near Denver had been thrown out of the missionary school a few years ago and had been sending it hate mail, police said in court papers Monday.

LOL! No, I'm glad you posted your comment so I could let people know they need to look quick!
The cover file is posted in case anyone wants my medicore attempt at cover art. I realized it would be a lot easier than emailing every time someone asked for it. I didn't make cases with covers because my slimline cases easily break in shipping. People can print this out if they want, and I don't have to go to Kinkos to use their fancy paper trimmer. Yay!
-
Boo is snoring while sitting on my lap. Don't think I've heard her snore before
My big love cat snores---has since he was little. Sometimes we snore in synch with him---sounds pretty funny!
-
The ice storm is supposed to hit just a couple counties south of here. Yikes, I hope it doesn't get this far north

Re: ichat---our mixer for S&V had the great idea to use it since Peter was in NY and I was in the session in Atlanta. He trained the camera to the video screen so Peter could see picture for what he was mixing, and comment.
Unfortunately, the audio wasn't good enough for him to hear and critique, so in hte end he just left it up to me. But I still like the idea!
-
Not to gloat, but it's like summer here!
-
Dakota, I don't think you overreacted. I must say I was deeply hurt when the people I worked with for a number of years didn't acknowledge that I was leaving. I know it was a different situation, but it did hurt. I think sometimes people are so caught up in the dramas of their own life and their own "world" so to speak, that they don't think of reaching out to someone else with a kind word.
-
JOURNEYMAN was wonderful tonight. And there's a new episode next week! Hooray!
Either I'm getting used to it, or the writing has make the episodes easier to follow.
I am also growing quite attached to "Women's Murder Club".

Oh, I'm not jealous about that at all. I don't mind the snow, just don't want the ice. I happen to like heat and electricity

thanks TD (in Hindi, no less), Vixmom, and Cillilz for the superb Birthday wishes!
And Edi, I am most appreciative of the wishes from Ganesh, my favorite Hindi god (you really must see one of the old films made about him...they are great!)
-
I got an email from my website contact page from someone who was a friend back during my first 2 years in college. I haven't heard from her in ...man...maybe 28 years give or take a year or two. I emailed back and haven't heard anything else yet. I love blasts from the past

Had a wonderful afternoon at my buddy Jim's house.
We watched the old 1986 TV movie CHRISTMAS EVE starring Loretta Young, which is one of Jim's favorite holiday films...and then he fixed a delicious dinner of salmon smothered in carmalized onions, mashed potatoes, brocolli, and for desert...chocolate brownies! Yummy!
-
Hmm... I'm starting to look at flights back to VA for Christmas. Right now, my last day of work is next Tuesday, the 18th, and then I don't have anything else booked until January 5th. I'm just trying to decide whether or not I want to be in NYC for New Year's Eve. However, since Christmas (and New Year's) falls on a Tuesday, I'm also toying with heading somewhere else for a few days midweek. We shall see.

Ganesh is my favorite, too---I have a very nice statue of him on my desk!
I'll post it when I have a chance to post party pix!
Right now the fullfillment house is busy---Greg walked in and said "It looks like a factory in here"!

And, the people at my old job think they are so overworked they can't take anything right now. So, lol, I'm getting an extradition hearing tomorrow. Those hearings take a total of an hour or less, including meeting with the client and walking to the courthouse (unless they are contested, and they rarely are) and you're done with the case. I have to admit I love that they had to call me to do this. It will take longer to do the paperwork to get paid than it will to do the case, but I told them I'm happy to do this stuff for them. I could do these hearings in my sleep
-
All packages will ship tomorrow except for Mr. Barnum---must find an extra-large envelope for his lagniappe!
-
I really can't believe they are passing off one of these. Good lord they are wimps
-
Either I'm getting used to it, or the writing has make the episodes easier to follow.
I am also growing quite attached to "Women's Murder Club".
The writing has gotten clearer for JOURNEYMAN. The flashback story now occurs in order rather than jumping to disparate periods of time. And the emotions for the characters involved in Dan's journeys are now shared because his family all knows the truth.
-

Greg and I found it most amusing that at bk's birthday party, since I had labored over editing The Brain DVD, I was expecting to meet people involved with the show---David Wechter, Kevin Spirtas, etc.
Instead, I was the date of "Oh-crap-you-want-my-name", as bk reenacted the Brain tap scene that Greg participated in. Too funny!
-
Hear tell that in Texas the defense does lots of trials that way!
der Brucer
Yes, but that was a murder trial. This is a request to have the person taken to South Dakota, which is about 5 miles from the courthouse. The only real issue is whether this is the person named in the warrant. Not too much to fight about.
-
All packages will ship tomorrow except for Mr. Barnum---must find an extra-large envelope for his lagniappe!
This sort of sounds unseemly, but I swear it's not!
-
I better get to sleep. The hearing is at 9:00 AM and if we get 3-4 more inches of snow I'll be out clearing it at 6:30 or 7:00 AM. Ok, I'll admit it...I have a blast pushing my little snowblower.
-
Night all - hope you're birthday was very very happy, MBarnum.

Hope the neighbors don't have shotguns.

LOL, My neighbors will be up doing the same thing. I probably won't get out there until 7:00 or even 7:30, but that will be cutting it close.

I done burned my last DVD for the night and am going to sleep, too.

I am watching my first ever Ramon Novarro film...what a wonderful actor...and what a good looking guy! No wonder he was so popular back in the day!
The film I am watching is titled HUDDLE (1932)...it is about college life and football.

Back from Town Without Pity, about which more later.
-
edisaurus - Obviously all our regulars can have the DVD or download if they'd like (as long as you get what you need out of it), but I, like dear reader Laura, am thinking that we do have lurkers who, let's just say, have less than friendly intentions.
-
Received a lovely bit of mail from Australia. Thanks so much, Tomovoz.

Does 9500 count as a milestone?
-
Maybe not, but it's goal if not a milestone.
-
Or maybe a goalstone.
-
As in have an eggnog, Mr. Goalstone.
-
That was silly, but it got me to 9500.
-
Will we never see page 43?
-
Not with this WUSSBURGERING!
-
No one in the jernt but me and FJL.
-
And six GUESTS.
-
I shall single-handedly take us to page thirteen.
-
No one's called or e-mailed to remind me if something's on for tomorrow, so maybe there's nothing save for a couple of important errands.
-
Are we STILL on page twelve?
-
Make that seven GUESTS.
-
It's been quite chilly in the evening hours.
-
Or, to put it another way, in the evening hours it's been quite chilly. Or, to put it the Tex-Mex way - in the evening hours it's been quite chili.
-
I'm listening to a fun soundtrack called Le Heros de la Famille. I searched it here, but I can't find my posts about it - I saw it at the French film festival earlier in the year. Hmmm - I guess the search function doesn't include the notes, just the posts here.
-
Make that thirteen GUESTS.
-
And FJL, who is just sitting there like so much fish.
-
Be gone page twelve, for I am sick of the sight of you.
-
I guess I should begin writing the notes.
-
Then again, I don't think I'll start writing them until I see page thirteen.
-
I am sort of tired.
-
I took a gander at what's going on over at another site. Does anyone know who this chekky person is? He's either very dumb or utterly brilliant - I can't figure it out.
-
TIRED OF PAGE TWELVE.
-
Chekky is a fool.
-
At long last page thirteen.
-
Will we never get to page fourteen?
-
I guess I can write the notes now.
-
I nearly fell asleep at 9:30 while we had company here, but now I'm wide awake.
