I went to the griffith Observatory today for the first time since the re-model. It is really very nice, and the new show planetarium show is well put together. No more lasarium shows though, which is sad. I remember seeing a laser show to  Dark Side of the Moon there. Fond childhood memories.

I have finished watching two -- count them. two -- motion pictures on HD DVD.

The first was "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."  I was entertained enormously, although I was a bit perplexed about why the youngsters weren't officially indoctrinated into the order by the oldsters.

Imelda Staunton was fantastic as Umbridge.  Very interesting, indeed, the casting in this film, including Helena Bonham Carter 'trying out???" for "Sweeney Todd"?

The second was "The Bourne Ultimatum."  I loves me my Jason Bourne films.  This one was fast-paced and well-edited IF a bit contrived, IMO, in the character portrayed by David Strathairn, who -- excellent as he was -- must have winced just a bit at playing such a moronic dolt.  One of the chases (on rooftops in Madrid) went on just a tad longer than was comfortable for me, so I fast-forwarded to its climax and the film played out quite well from there.

I anticipate a fourth Bourne film.

So now it's off to bed, I think.  Later today I must pack and do the things I need to do to ensure I get myself to the airport in plenty of time to check in, clear security and then sit and wait and wait and wait.

I hope I remember to take something entertaining along to keep my mind occupied.  I  generally eschew (gesundheit) too much extra carry-on if I can at all prevent carrying it on.  A good book will suffice if it's truly good.

Time to snooze so I don't lose any productive time later one.

G'night.

Right now, I'm watching last night's "Boston Legal."  I didn't really care for this episode.  Just before that, I watched the last four episodes of "Heroes."    When "BL" is done, I'm going to bed. 8)

Good morning, all! The alarm went off at 6:30 but I slept in until 8:30.  My nly prssing business today is to clear the Christmas gifts out of their amassed pile and preapre them for wrap and ship.  I'v got a bit of orchestration fixes for Mr Ron Raines to do in the next couple of days and some NYPL and office work for Toyland.

DR FJL, the problem with Boston is none of us have the same open days for the trip, and it's closing on the 23rd.  The intentions were certainly good, but I believe we should have planned this a month ago so that our schedules were in sync: DR Jose's free this Thursday but I'm not, and I feel it's getting too close to Christmas to impose on my friends in Providence. People usually need a month warning before I visit so they can leave town, relocate, change phone numbers, whatever.  Perhaps next holiday season?

DR Jose, thanks for being my escort last evening. I'm always amazed that these things seem to pull together as well as they do, but the concert wouldn't have been nearly as fun without you.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm already in the midst of playing auditions.  Of course, I'm not playing an audition right this very second since I'm in the midst of typing this post instead of in the midst of playing an audition.  Now, if I had four hands - two on the piano keyboard, two on the laptop keyboard, that may be possible, but..  In any case...

So far, so good.  And I'm digging playing the Stevie Wonder songs that have been put in front of me this morning.  Alas, we're at the end of our first hour, and we've only seen about 15 people, so it's going to one of those days.  -In fact, right now, I don't think the next person is signed up to go until 11:20.  And then the next person after that is at Noon.  So...  -I'm glad I brought my laptop with me.  ;)

And as for heading up to Boston tomorrow... Well, now that the bad weather in the midwest is due to make it's way here tomorrow morning, I'm pretty sure I'll be staying put.  Right now, they're predicting 3-5 inches of snow and/or ice and/or freezing rain.  Definitely not a day for traveling.  Of course, forecasts change, but I have a sense we'll definitely be getting something cold and icy falling from the skies tomorrow.

Some packing decisions made.  Travelling lighter, I hope, than in the past.  Only two pair of shoes...plus the travel pair.

Three pair of dry clean-only slacks.  Two pair of wash 'n wear.

I'm thinking four shirts that can be worn either casually or to church and two that can be worn casually and slouching around.

Assorted undergarments and socks groupings....and I should be done.

Quick question: Is it Hanukkah or Chanukah? Or are both spellings acceptable?

There are many variant spellings.  To properly transliterate the Hebrew, you really should have a "ch" at the beginning, since the Hebrew letter is "cheth", which is pronounced with a guttural, "clearing the throat" sound.

Apparently the threat of having someone visit Dress Circle to discuss the lack of responses to my e-mails got me a response.  A rude, unacceptable response, but a response.  And apparently the wire transfer of their overdue invoice is on its way, which I'll believe when it arrives.  But, it's their last order with me - I will not put up with their accountant's childish behavior and game-playing any longer and they can get our product elsewhere.

DR Jose, YES! I was at Grape Leaf! (They have changed their name, though.)

They were listed in the AJC top 50 Atlanta restaurants, but since they are located in predominantly anglo East Cobb, they don't know what a treasure they have in their midst.

Grape Leaf was started by the chef from COM, in Atlanta, a very popular place. I tried their grape leaf duck and salmon, but it's not nearly as good.

COM is always packed with people---the regulars call themselves "Commies". If only we could relocate Grape Leaf, I know it would do well in Atlanta. They struggle to survive as it is.

We have taken a lot of people there and they love it, but they never seem to go back on their own...only with us.

I went to the griffith Observatory today for the first time since the re-model. It is really very nice, and the new show planetarium show is well put together. No more lasarium shows though, which is sad. I remember seeing a laser show to  Dark Side of the Moon there. Fond childhood memories.

We haven’t been there in years and years.  We never seem to have the time when we are visiting LA.

Keith took me there on a semi-regular basis once we began dating.  While standing outside the observatory watching a shooting star he slipped an engagement ring on my finger. We had been engaged at least a year, the ring signified we were going to set a date.

Sadly the ring was lost or stolen.  Happily I still have Keith.

It's the part of travel I'm least good at....deciding what I'm going to need and later discovering I left something crucial behind and, worse, that I've packed more than I can use.

You have my sympathies, Ron--I loathe deciding what to take. I don't mind the actual putting-into-the-suitcase part, but deciding what to take and being restricted to a few items--well, I loathe it. I can often be heard saying, "I HATE packing! I HATE it!"  I don't know why it provokes such a strong reaction in me; it always works out. But it's now my standard reaction.

The Go-Go-Curry place two blocks from here...  Macy's food court...  A couple of "point and pray" steam table Chinese food places... Oh, that Chinese bakery with the really good custard and red bean buns...  The fried chicken and fish place across the street... The one deli/food bar place that always seems to have some interesting Mediterranean meze...

No contest! I had a bowl of tomato soup. Oh course, that's very all-American, so BK should be pleased.

When I first started traveling on business my rule was to pack as light as possible. But one fateful trip I arrived at my destination to find that my business clothes did NOT travel well at all--and I had nothing else with me. That taught me to allow for contingencies. Light, yes, but not THAT light. Of course, vacation travel is easier. And, best of all, have access to a washer and dryer.

Well, the question is: who? My friend Annabella packs everything under the sun. If you're traveling with her you have no worries if you forget something--she'll always have it. Cuticle scissors? She'll have them. Little hangers specially designed for hand-washing? She'll have them.

BTW, I do understand why TSA asks that, but just how many people these days have someone else to pack for them? A spouse, perhaps. Yes, that. I don't think many people have butlers these days. Does the KGB send over agents to pack for certain high-profile people? I mean, really!! Of COURSE I packed my bag!!  ;)

Keith has truly impressed on me the art of traveling lightly.  When he worked he traveled so much he was a million mile traveler on two separate airlines.   It was the rare occasion he checked luggage, and I mean rare occasion.  He carried on one hanging bag and his briefcase.  The hanging bag was never completely unpacked at home.  It was left hanging, mostly packed and ready to go within minutes.  Keith had it down to a science of what he needed.  Of course, basically it was toiletries and business clothes.

I will admit I travel with fewer clothes when I travel alone so I don’t have to carry a heavy suitcase & I basically take one roll-on bag and a BIG purse.  The new liquid rules on flights have forced me to check luggage if I’m staying for any length of time, otherwise I’ll run out products that require more than 3ounces for my entire stay.  So annoying-darn those terrorist.

I was advised by a frequent-traveler colleague to keep two sets of toiletries--one in the bathroom, the other for travel. I found that approach quite helpful. I couldn't standardize my clothes due to climates and such, but I could certainly standardize my toiletries.

The first time I flew to L.A. without Keith-had to take Bryan & the new baby home for a visit-Keith packed my bag for me while I was busy packing all the baby stuff.  When the boys were young I, or we, usually stayed with his parents.  When it was time to leave I found I couldn't get everything back into the suitcase and turned to Keith’s father for help.  His father, who Keith obviously acquired his organizational & artistic skills from, began laughing & asked if Keith had done my packing.  It was very embarrassing & the last time Keith did the packing unless he was with me.

When I go home for my annual visit, there are various "occasions" I have to pack for.  Church is one.  Dinner "out" is another...either at someone's home or in a restaurant.

Plus, there's visiting.  I don't want to wear the same things everywhere I go for two weeks...primarily because I keep seeing the same people who would start wondering if I owned more than one pair of pants and one shirt.  ;)

TSA rules have some idiosyncracies.  What's the deal with "no food" brought from home?  What harm can there be in a couple of sandwiches and a piece of cake or some homemade candy or cookies?  (aside from dietary harm, that is).

I'd be far more suspicious of airport personnel putting something sinister in my food than TSA should be of my mom's sandwiches.  :)

Over the past two years, I've stocked my mom's guest bathroom with everthing I need in the way of toiletries for my stay.  Now I don't have to carry anything more than my "meds".

I've considered what I'd do if I went "elsewhere" and have decided I'd just buy stuff I need when I get there.

Except for deciding what I'll wear for the flight, I'm virtually done now.  All is not inside the suitcase and carryon, but all is sitting out ready to be baggied (!) and tucked away.  I ditched a pair of black dress shoes.  If my black walking shoes are sniffed at when I wear them to church, so be it.  They look okay to me.  They're clean and shiny.

Tough noogies if someone judges me based upon those shoes.

I know what you mean.  You can clean your clothes while traveling.

When Craig was in the Peace Corps & had to wash his clothes in the bathtub, after boiling water for them, he met us in Budapest with a suitcase full of dirty clothes.  We sent them all out, including his underwear, with the hotel laundry.  I have never seen anyone so excited about clean clothes.

I'm carrying three full weeks worth of meds (blood pressure, blood sugar, assorted other stuff including potassium supplements).  And they're traveling in three of those plastic medicine tablet cases.  My only real concern is having to pack a Christmas ornament in my suitcase.  I fear it will be broken.  But I don't think they'll let me have it in my carry-on, because it's glass. I'll have to scour my TSA rules printout.

I was asked for my address, after which I was asked if I was "me", and my phone number was "what it is" and my cell phone number was "what it is".  And it all "was".

And for lunch, I did indeed enjoy some Balkan food at Djerdan (http://www.djerdan.com/).  *Their website right now is basically a homepage.  In any case...

To start, I had a slice of their amazing Spinach Burek - spinach and cheese wrapped in homemade fillo dough.  Really quite good - and it was a BIG slice too.  -They also come in Cheese, Beef or Potato.  -And if you want to order some for yourself, you can call 1-888-GO-BUREK.  ;)

Of course, I was already quite sated and satiated after the burek, but since I had already ordered the entree, well...  Cevapi - Traditional Balkan veal kebabs, grilled, and served on pita with some chopped onion and roasted red pepper sauce.  Soooooo good.  And, again, another very generous portion.

And since I still had a good chunk of time left in my leisurely lunch hour, I went ahead and ordered a small pastry, hurmašica, and some Turkish coffee for dessert.

Oh... And I haven't had Indian food in a while...  And there's also Djerdan for Balkan food - amazing bureks!... I'm also not that far from 'wichcraft in Bryant Park...  Restaurant Forte Baden Baden for Korean style fried chicken - and the deep-fry the garlic cloves too!... The Korean kimbab (sushi rolls) place...  Etc., etc., etc.

grumble, grumble, grumble

Wow, you never showed me any of these places! Djerdan, next time I am in NY...OK!

As for packing... I've gotten better over the years.  I still remember when I had to pack basically three weeks of clothes for two different seasons when I went to Australia.  And even then, there were actually some clothes that never made it out of the suitcase!

One of my colleagues at Disney is like DR Jane's Keith.  He almost always travels with one carry-on bag and his laptop/briefcase.  He even travelled that light when he went to Australia for those three weeks.  Yes, his clothing rotation is a bit "fast", but he also doesn't mind doing his laundry when he's on the road.  And if it ever turns out that he does need something new to wear, he doesn't mind buying a new shirt here and there.  Those end up being his "souvenirs".

I began my afternoon viewing by finishing up the PBS AMERICAN MASTERS program on Rudolph Nureyev that I had begun last night. I saw about 25 minutes of it last night, and I saw the other 65 today. Basically it took him from his youth to his defection, and only mentioned his life after leaving Russia briefly. Very beautiful series of movies of his early dance performances. He was very flamboyant in his moves and, of course, thrilling to watch as a young talent.

Next, I watched CSI: MIAMI. Good murder mystery this week with the team operating well as a unit for a change. A final showdown, however, didn't seem quite in keeping with CSI: MIAMI as usual, so I wonder if this wasn't the first of some kind of story arc.

Next came HOT ROD. It's the kind of brain-dead, moronic comedy that's SO silly you have to be in the mood for it. Thankfully, it only ran 83 minutes. I'll admit a couple of scenes did make me laugh out loud, and there was one spectacular sight gag that came at the end of an homage to Kevin Bacon in FOOTLOOSE.

There were a couple of extraordinary crashes, too. The stunt man on this movie for leading actor Andy Samberg deserved a BIG bonus check for his work in the film.

I also watched all of the special features on the disc. There were quite a few of them though none lasted for longer than 10-12 minutes.

I'll listen to more of the audio commentary when I go back down (listened to about 10 minutes of it earlier), but that's all that's left of this release.

So what have I been doing to pass the time?  Well, apart from watching "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in HD DVD, I remembered that I got an IPod Shuffle last year for Christmas.

I'd never even tried to make it work.  And despite reading everything that came with it, I have no idea how music gets recorded onto the shuffle.  I'm charging the unit now.  There is a mention of following "Set Up Assistant."

But I ain't go no set up assistant.  My system recognizes the input as an iPod.  And I'd sure love to record a few CDs onto it before leaving once the shuffle is "charged".  But how does it "record"?

I think I have figured out the iPod shuffle conundrum.  I ripped CDs to my music folder on my C: drive and then "sent" the files to my iPod on my J: drive.  It seems to have worked.  I won't know, of course, until the danged thing has charged itself up.  It's been a couple of hours since I first plugged it in...don't know how long it's supposed to take.  The so-called instructions tell me nothing of value.

Now that I'm on the Humane Society email list I receive up-dates & various petitions to sign.  It is nice when I read the accomplishments such as:

1. The last two states -- New Mexico and Louisiana -- outlawed cockfighting, and Congress passed a seminal law strengthening penalties for animal fighting

2. Horse slaughter was finally eliminated on U.S. soil when Texas and Illinois shut down the last remaining slaughterhouses in the nation.

I did get a cat from a pet store once.  I hadn't intended to but she kept pawing me through the cage and crying at me.  She didn't do this to anyone so I figured it was me she wanted.  We went from the pet store to the vet and the vet said to take her back as the store was notorious for selling sick pets.  Of course I couldn't.  The next time we took her to the vet, we walked in and the entire office wanted to know where we got the beautiful, healthy, sweet cat.  They were shocked it was the same scraggly cat.  That was Gaia, the best cat ever, & I guess we rescued her from the pet store.  As tempting as it can be, I won't pay to "rescue" a pet from a store or breeder any more.

As you know, we have a weakness for purebred dogs.  I'm ok with that as long as I research the breeder carefully.

;D  That was My Sin.  She walked into our apartment, proceeded to hiss at Gaia & Gaia's daughter Maria (I'll never permit kittens again either) and give them an upper-respiratory infection they almost didn't service.  At least she didn't give them her distemper.

My Sin was the cat that protected and watched out for the boys when they were babies.  And taught them respond with a hiss when asked "what does a cat say". ;D

Speaking of shaving….

While we hiked today Keith mentioned normally in the wee hours of the morning he contemplates the universe & the meaning of life.  This morning he contemplated why Tarzan didn’t have a beard.  I thought maybe it had to do with the fact Tarzan didn’t seem to have much hair anywhere else.  Keith said nope.  Then I suggested he got shaving supplies from the natives who didn’t have beards either.  Now he wants to know why the natives didn’t have beards.

I suggested possibly some wise person here might know the answers to these important questions.

Well, honestly, there's just so much one can absorb before one wants something different.  Ford didn't do light and fluffy...that I recall.

Yes, it's a total surprise.  No, I'm not hiding mine away.  I plan on using it all the time between now and Christmas.

My mom thinks that the printer/scanner I ordered and sent her back before Thanksgiving is her Christmas gift.  That and the candy she expects I'll be giving her.

I'm not going to make a huge fuss about my camera.  But if she asks about it, I'll tell her how simple it is, and show her how to use it if she wants to take some pictures.  I'm taking my disc along so I can download it on her computer to accommodate my photos.  She is also getting an 8X10 digital picture frame for displaying her favorite photos.

If I hadn't broken my wrist I would have made Chanukah cookies this year.  They are just rolled sugar cookies cut out with Chanukah cookie cutters with blue & yellow sugar sprinkled on top.  They are very tasty.

I doubt I'll be doing much, if any, baking for Christmas.  I told my brother I won't be sending our mother's fudge this year.  We both agree we don't need it but I just like the tradition of making it.  I really don't eat much fudge anymore & my brother eats it all so he doesn't want any-lol.

My iPod shuffle STILL hasn't charged.  That little orange light just keeps blinking away.

I've never used this before, so I'm guessing I waited too long or something.  I know there's music on it.  And there was a small note that the battery recharges have a limited duration and may have to be replaced by a professional.

Lord only knows where I'd take this little thing to get a new battery installed.

I can't remember, I'll have to look it up.

I don't expect the stones to still be there  ;D.   It is possible my parent's are.  Sadly I haven't been in awhile.  They are both in mausoleum’s, or as I call them-drawers.  Since there isn't any ground there is are vase holders on the wall.  I placed stones from home in vases along with matching artificial flowers.  Last time I checked they were still there.  I’m the only one who goes & has ever gone to their graves.  My sister went once to my mother’s, the day we chose a spot close by for my father.

I'm the only one of the "kids" on my mother's and aunt's side who cares anything about the family plots.  I don't know if any of them will ever care about our grandfather's/grandmother's and great grandfather's/great grandmother's plots after my mom and aunt are unable to do it.  I am pretty sure my mom instilled a sense of "family obligation" to tend to these graves, but I think she'll be satisfied if I just care for hers and my father's.

I am amazed that doctor's offices don't send these out ahead of time. NO ONE can remember all the dates.

Jane, some years ago I took the time to figure out dates for all my medical "events", ie anything of significance, and put it on the computer. So much easier! And it's so easy to forget something. Doctors overlook important things, too. I had polio when I was 7. Few docs think to ask about it, but of course it's significant. Now when they read my medical history they say, rather incredulously, "You had polio?" Yes. And they take my complaints a bit more seriously.

Decided to take a "me" night tonight and watch some things *I* wanted to watch rather than those which needed to be watched.

I began with THE GOOD GERMAN, a DVD I got from a fellow reviewer after he was finished with it early in the summer (or late spring). I finally got around to watching it tonight.

It's an interesting idea and some of it worked well while other parts seemed not quite pulled together. The murder mystery part was OK, and then it turned into more of a Hitchcock espionage-type thriller. Thrills weren't consistent enough, sad to say.

The film looked marvelous, and even though there was no anamorphic enhancement, up-converted, it looked very sharp and luscious in black and white.

Next, I put in a DVD from the Logo channel, six collected episodes of the RICK AND STEVE gay puppet show. I watched one and a half of the episodes, and while not fall down funny, there certainly were some funny things in them. Good voice talent (Alan Cumming, Peter Paige, Wilson Cruz).

Tonight I watched CRIMINAL MINDS since it was a new episode. Gruesome torture and murder being a part of almost episode, it certainly was present here. OK mystery and an ironic twist at the end.

I thought Boo showed up at your house and insisted she belonged to you.  :)

Actually, when I think about it, I got Petey at a pet store in the plaza at Scotsdale Road and McDowell (South East Corner).  I had walked through there a number of times. He was isolated from all the other kittens and on my birthday, I was in there carrying him around and the clerk told me if I wanted him I had to take him THAT DAY.  She was very insistent that he wouldn't be there the next day. I assumed he was going to be put down, so I bought him. I had him for 15 years.

I got Nilla 6 months after I moved to Sioux City, I got him from the shelter (they named him Nilla), a year later I got Callie at the shelter. Then a month after I had to put Nilla to sleep, Boo walked into my life. Right now she is perched on my shin which is resting on the foot part of the recliner.

I would write to them in advance, tell them you had a dental procedure or however you want to say it and that you need to have a follow up appointment and that was the first available time for you to do it.  I'd also say you would be happy to go on another time. Ask to have it postponed not to get out of it and you have a chance.

If you have a second address. ;)

Not to mention that sex with horses was finally outlawed in Washington this year!

Good Evening!

Well... After 52 people, and having to stay there until 5:40, we finally packed up the room and left for the day.  Thankfully, one of the last people to come in was a true find!  After he left the room - after singing one amazingly emotional song and one incredibly funny song - the casting director and I just looked at each other with that "Where did he come from?!?!?  Was he really that good?!?!?" face.  Then she went out in the hall to track him down to ask him to come back and read...  Hopefully, he'll be as fresh and "on" during his callback later this week.  :)

After I left the rehearsal studios, I met up with an old college friend of mine, Don.  He's currently on staff at Tulsa Opera, and he's in town for a few days holding auditions for their upcoming season.  When I asked him what and where he wanted to go tonight, he answered, "So, now that Tower is closed, where does one buy CDs?"  ;)  So, we headed down to J&R Music World, and perused the newly revamped Classical CD department.  -Which actually didn't look that revamped to me.  In any case...

As soon as we walked into the Classical CD area, Don said, "OH!  I can't breath!"  -I guess he has been CD-deprived during his time in Tulsa.  ;)

Luckily, they were closing in about 40 minutes, so we didn't have that much time to shop, but I did end up buying a couple of CDs, and he most certainly stocked up.  He actually came across a couple of good deals, and J&R's regular prices are lower than some store's sale prices.  I know that Don is going to try to make it back there later this week, and I actually think I will too - I can finish up my Christmas shopping.  For other people.  ;)

Several of my pets over they years have been orphans or from the pound.

I had a miniature poodle/schnauzer cross that adopted me. It was an puppy a neighbor had but never 'loved' it and he would always come over and visit me. AFter a week of him visiting me, they offered him to me. Needless to say Buff got loved, spoiled, walked, blowdried, for 7 years before he had to be put down. He had cancer that spread through his body quite rapidly.

He had a strange fascination with Grapes and blowdryers. He liked to sit in front of them and he would whine if you did not blow dry him.

Except the the Siamese Cat I got as a gift, my other two are what you call backyard suprises. I suspect Ace was possible of Norwegian Wood background. He was a HUGE cat but a real lover.

DR Ron Pulliam - I'm sorry my timing is off with this post, but better late than never..

As for your iPod - The initial charging of your iPod shuffle does take a bit longer than one would think.  If you are charging via your computer's USB slot, it can take a bit longer at times due to the way your computer's power resources are set up.  However, just a few hours of charging should be enough to get an initial listen.  *I bought an A/C adapter charger in order to get it charged up faster - as well as to free up a USB slot on my laptop.

As for not hearing anything, well.. The Set Up Assistant will pop up if you have iTunes installed on your computer.  iPods only work with iTunes.  So, if you don't have iTunes set up on your computer, then go to apple.com and download it.  Once you have iTunes set up, everything else will fall into place.  Right now, any files you may dragged and dropped to your iPod are probably just stored as data files, not music files.  You need iTunes to make the music work.

And as for the battery... For shuffles, it just easier to buy a new one.  However, I've had an iPod shuffle since the first year they came out - three years already?? - and the battery is still nice and strong.

I forgot to mention the other day that we took the MARTA train home from the airport. So convenient because the station is only a mile from our house.

While I was waiting for the train to leave the station, a guy entered our car, sat down and starting trying to sell us knives that double as a cigarette lighter.

He said they were handy because when you went clubbing, if anyone accused you of packing a knife, you could show them that it was just a harmless cigarette lighter.

So, several things wrong with this:
Open flame on the train
Selling knives to people who will be following us off the train with all our computers and film gear.

I told the guy that we both carry knives anyway and we didn't smoke, so we didn't need to buy one.

In the middle of this, my mother called. When I told her that we were waiting for the train to leave to take us home, she said that she didn't like us ridng the train at night and walking home. I assured her it was perfectly safe.

I considered saying "Call I call you back? I'm trying to decide what knife to buy!" but I thought better of it.

For dinner tonight, Don and I headed back up to midtown, and ended up at Eatery.  I had their Black Tea Encrusted Salmon salad, and Don had their Mac'n'Jack.  Everything was quite deelish, and we had one of their better servers tonight too - meaning, not aloof and snooty.

I also tried something I've seen on their wine list: sparkling shiraz.  It was OK, but it was surprisingly sweet.  However, I had ordered it as I was finishing my meal, so it was basically my dessert.

DR Jose, did you tell me how you ended up at the Grape Leaf Grill? That is indeed the place I was speaking of...

SETC used to have their Fall convention in Atlanta every Fall - at least until the Best Western downtown almost doubled their rates from one year to the next.  The local hosts would try to take us out of Atlanta proper every now and then to give us some "space" from the convention.  One year, one of the local arrangements personnel took us to the Grape Leaf Grill.  We also ate at a fabulous Italian place in Buckhead one year, but alas, I can't remember the name of the restaurant.

*There is actually talk of the Fall Convention returning to Atlanta in 2009 since the convention rates have seemed to come down again, and have gotten more competitive due to the hotel "craze" of the past couple of years.

I have a friend flying in from Dallas tomorrow.  I just IMed him a few minutes ago, and asked what time he was supposed to get into town.  He said he was schedule to land at 4:30.  Then I asked him if he had been following any of the weather reports for tomorrow.  He had not.  Well... He just applied to fly stand-by on the first two flights out tomorrow morning.

*I also hope the weather does not interfere with the surprise birthday weekend for my niece, Alexandra.  Especially since I got them tickets for Mary Poppins on Friday.
