Well, you've read the notes, the notes were here, there, and everywhere, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to find a fershluganah pear tree.

And the word of the day is: DISHABILLE!
-
Welcome ten GUESTS.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I was errant and truant most of the day yesterday, so I haven't caught up with any of the the posts after page 2. ::)
-
Today will also be a day of errant-and-truant-ness. I need to get to work early (ha!) so that I can leave at about 11:00 a.m., to drive a friend (and former co-worker) of my mom's (who I know also) to the airport. I'll then come right back to work for a few hours, then go to the theater for our only Thursday performance before our last weekend of performances. Today is going to be a long day. :P
-
And now...to bed for some muchly needed sleep. :)
-
DR Edisaurus - scary but funny story last night about riding the MARTA.
And THANK YOU for posting the photos of the great birthday bash! :)

Thanks to all DRs for the welcome home last night!

Good morning, all! I spent the afternoon and evening boxing up Christmas things for shipment andthen discovered that on about half of them I forgot to add the Christmas card! Oy. Today I will try to rectify that. First, I have some time in Toyland, then luncheon and a movie with my friend Tara to celebrate her birthday. She's my horror film date, so we're seeing THE MIST at 1:20. Then I shall hie me back here to fix the card/package problem. I'd like to be able to hit the post office first thing tomorrow morning and mail some of these packages.
DR TCB, how are you feeling? Has everything physically calmed down? Did you see your doctor?

Thursday morning greetings! It's rainy and foggy here in SW Ohio today.
When I got home last night, DH Richard was preparing burgers for dinner, which we ate while he and Rob watched The Bourne Ultimatum (I studied the mantle and decorated it after I ate). I was very tired, so went to bed early. By doing that, I see I missed a birthday greeting from DR Vixmom (thank you :-*) and wonderful pictures from DRs Edisaurus and Singdaw.

Rip Van Winkle on the screen would be smart.
Tyrone Power will be cast in the part.

Such lovely photos last night from DR EDISAURUS and today from DR SINGDAW....I feel as if I have had a trip to the west coast already this morning.
-
The musicals of Mr Jerry Herman are always fun to see and to work on, and I like most everything....but if I have to choose a favorite:
My Best Girl
Mame
Put on Your Sunday Clothes
It Only Takes a Moment
Least favorite and song I would NEVER miss if all copies were destroyed today so that it could never ever ever EVER be sung again:
Ribbons Down My Back

Nice shots, DR Michael S! Thanks for sharing.

Good morning!
This should be the last of our "summer days" in December. It's been nice having the warmth without the crushing humidity which accompanies such temperatures in August and September.
-
Enjoyed seeing the birthday pictures, DR Edi. Thanks so much for sharing.
Enjoyed the pics this morning as well.
-
That PBS Jerry Herman special sounds wonderful. I'll be looking forward to seeing it.
My favorite Herman:
"It Only Takes a Moment"
"I Don't Want to Know"
"Lovin' You"
"Song on the Sand"
"I Won't Send Roses"
"That's How Young I Feel"
"Mame"
-
I got up very early this morning (don't know why; I guess I had just had enough sleep), and after getting the bedroom areas cleaned and the newspaper read, I settled in for some viewing.
I finished the episode of RICK & STEVE that I had started last night but stopped in the middle when CRIMINAL MINDS was coming on.
In it, Rock found himself driving a monster truck at a truck rally, and it was very funny seeing these things done with toy people and toy trucks.
-
Then I started my next TV box set - DIRT starring Courtney Cox Arquette. I watched the show on FX, and it's a wicked guilty pleasure. Great lead performances, but very salacious storylines that require a lot of suspension of disbelief.
I got the pilot episode watched. The others, as I recall, are narrated by the show's resident schizophrenic photographer Don Konkey. I'll continue watching them this afternoon and this evening. There are 13 episodes in the first season set.
-
DR TCB, to answer your question from last night about the two gay characters in AS THE WORLD TURNS:
the actors are playing college freshmen. I'm sure the actors are older than that in real life. However, maybe you should look back at your freshman picture in your college yearbook. We looked VERY young back then. I look like a baby in my freshman picture.
-
There are some new episodes of shows on tonight: CSI, SUPERNATURAL, WITHOUT A TRACE, LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT.
The ABC slate (UGLY BETTY, GREY'S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE) consists of all reruns.

TOD:
I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know my Herman scores as well as I should... I saw Carol Channing's 4,000th or 4500th "Dolly" lo these many years ago, and spent many a beery Saturday night singing "Bosom Buddies" at various and sundried piano bars, but never really spent the time to learn all the master's songs. One of these days, I suppose... I love his bittersweet songs ("Time Heals Everything," "If He Walked..." "Look Over There"), and an old friend did a killer version of "Wherever He Ain't" that made me love that song as well.
-
I guess folks saw the Golden Globe nominations this morning. I have seen very few of the movies up for awards at this point. Only HAIRSPRAY of the best picture nominees.
I noticed they put Travolta in the supporting actor category. Not worthy of a nomination, I don't think. If they were going to pick a supporting actor in HAIRSPRAY to nominate, I would have chosen James Marsden.
-
I don't think I know from Jerry Herman.
-
Stubby Kaye.....liked him in LI'L ABNER and GUYS AND DOLLS....but he is doing the SAME schtick in YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY FROM IT, and even with songs by Johnny Mercer & Gene de Paul....it wears thin....so to speak.
-
DR MATTH - The Adventures of Rick & Steve usually give me a few laughs, and as you said, the visuals done with stop motion toys are pretty funny.

As for the Topic of Day...
The only Jerry Herman score I'm really familiar with is Mack & Mabel. "Times Heals Everything" and "I Won't Send Roses" are particular favorites. -And on those rare occasions when an actress brings in "Wherever He Ain't" to an audition, and gets to sing the whole song, and gets the whole build of it right.... LOVE IT!
-
I haven't seen YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY FROM IT in years, but I thought it was deadly dull the last time I watched it.
Still is - and that is shocking with ALL the talent involved. ::)

Whew! It's nice to know I'm not alone in my Jerry-Herman-lacking-ness.
In fact - and I think I've admitted this before here on HHW - I don't ever recall seeing a complete Jerry Herman show all the way through. Either on stage or on film. -Although, when I was in high school, one of the "Grand Dames" of the community theatre scene in Northern Virginia had already pegged me as a "Sondheim Queen" and not a "Herman Queen". I guess his "prediction" came true.

RE: the winner of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL

DR Jose asked if anyone watched or liked this year's winner.
I love this show. And actually really loved 2 of the final 3 (chantal and jenah),. They were my two favorites from the start.
I actually really disliked Bianca (who left last week). She was so mean.
But i am also really unhappy with the winner. I don't find her pics to be very good over the season. I hate her haircut. And i thought her CoverGirl photo was bad (and her commercial just okay). I was really disappointed that she won. And also really disappointed that they dumped jenah after that huge breakthrough. Why bother to do that and then dump her moments later?
-
Thanks for the Rick & Steve pics, DR JRand. What role does Alan Cumming play in the show? The crippled old man?
yes DR MATTH - Alan Cumming voices Chuck, who is paralyzed from the left testicle down. 8)

I was actually really puzzled by the makeup treatment for the Cover Girl commercial. It may have been my TV, but the makeup looked really unnatural - practically neon - and even the hair styling was unflattering.

I awoke to a call about the site being down. It took about a minute to get on the board (the notes came up instantly), but it seems to be fine now - was it just for a couple of minutes?

BK, you should check out Airto's Identity (BMG) and I'm Fine, How Are You? (WB). You will love, love, love them. Oh, you should get some Hermeto albums, too. ;D

JERRY HERMAN with Angela Lansbury
Jerry Herman is one of America's foremost songwriters. Frequently compared to Irving Berlin, he does it all -- composes both the music and the lyrics.
If you profess to like musicals, you MUST know about Jerry Herman. Educate yourself at http://www.jerryherman.com/ (http://www.jerryherman.com/).

Just received my 2008 American Library Association membership card in the mail. It says that I've belonged for more years than either of my managers has been alive :-\

Wasn't Mr. Grantseeker the guy that ran the Variety Arts in GYPSY?
-
The eagle has landed, so to speak.
A short, non-eventful flight to Cincinnati and a delayed boarding of my flight to Columbia compounded by a back-up on the runway had me arriving one hour late. No weather/technical difficulties blamed.
Am tired. Am hungry. And it's warm here.
It's like summer...almost.

I think it's possible to enjoy Mr. Sondheim AND Mr. Herman. They are completely different animals, but both have their strengths and, heresy though it may be, their weaknesses.
-
I've viewed the Golden Globe noms, which are as ridiculous as always - who spent the most money, who courted the Foreign Press the most - and bingo - nomination. It's nice to see that my favorite film composer, Clint Eastwood, is up for both score and song. One just scratches one's cabeza.
-
Looks like a pretty day out. Oh, and in case I haven't mentioned it - I'm up.

Hello, everyone.
I slept uncharacteristically late today. I went to bed early last night, but got engrossed in a book--again--so it was late when I finally went to sleep.
-
I just got a call from TLC on-air and they booked me fore the first 3 weeks of January. (I'll be in NY @ the 26th for a Bat Mitzvah.) Guess I can finally do some xmas shopping! Whew!
-
TCB,
I LOVED your comment about the tombstone last night!
-
The stove installers just left. Despite our very careful planning---Greg went to Sears and got the installation specs so we could run the gas line and the wiring---the gas pipe and outlet are both in the wrong place. Greg spent a long time working on these to get them exactly right.
In the words of the Sears installer: I don't know who draws these things, but this is wrong". Oy!
Anyway, it looks installed enough to get my $200 rebate from the gas company, and we'll just deal with reconfiguring when Greg has time.
And it sure *looks* nice!
-
I have no problem enjoying musicals by Mr Herman - despite my love of Sondheim's work. I do prefer the songs from "The Grand Tour", "Dear World" and "Mack and Mabel" to the "done to death" Dolly and Mame.
Of course I still need a few more years away from seeing "Into The Woods" again too. For some reason I've not tired of "Company" which I've seen more.
I guess Miss Spectacular and Mrs Santa Clause were Jerry Herman's "Bounce".
-
Friend John called from the airport---they are cancelling a lot of flights to NY, so he may come back and stay with us until he can get a flight.
Bailey will be very happy to have his buddy back!

Favorite Jerry Herman song: DEAR WORLD

TCB,
I LOVED your comment about the tombstone last night!
now I have the theme from "Tombstone Territory" running though my head.

Good Afternoon!
Back from the gym... Whew!
I decided to give the rowing machine a try. It's always been one of those machines that looked "boring" to me, so I never really gave it a shot. Recently, I've been coming across articles about a "good rowing machine workout", so I went ahead and gave it a try today.
I discovered that the machine was equipped with a computer display, and it even had a "How To" tutorial, complete with an animation that you rowed along with to check your form. Cool! After about five minutes of getting acclimated, I set the timer for 30 minutes...
I knew my upper body got a good workout, but I was surprised at how much of a workout my legs got. I definitely had "sea legs" once I stood up after my workout. Whew!

My company has closed for the day due to the storm, and I am safely home.
Welcome home.
It's definitely ugly outside here in NYC, at least in my 'hood. The two block walk to and from the gym was cold, slushy, sleety and slippery.
Of course, since it's supposed to be in the mid-40s tomorrow, tomorrow is bound to be a bit slushy too.
-
LOL DRs WhipCrack and Jose. At last a filmed musical version of Buena Sera Mrs Campbell.

I definitely had "sea legs" once I stood up
There are so many possible rejoinders that the mind simply boggles... ;)

Did Abba sing "one more walk around the garden"?
-
and WHY is David singing to me?
Because he just can't help himself?
-
DR JoseSPiano - the gym where I go has individual televisions [with headphones] for each piece of aerobic excercise equipment. I'm not dedicated enough to admit that without that, I would find the time I spend excercising absolutely unendurable. :-\
-
Walking the dog, though, I don't mind. Zach and I walk an average of 5 miles a day.

I suspect NYC residents walk a lot more daily than most average folk.

I see DRs, but I don't see postings...

I will be largely E&T Friday and Saturday, as I will be in New Jersey with my Mom doing our annual holiday baking.

Yes, I think Meryl sounds pretty good!

DR JoseSPiano - the gym where I go has individual televisions [with headphones] for each piece of aerobic excercise equipment. I'm not dedicated enough to admit that without that, I would find the time I spend excercising absolutely unendurable. :-\
My gym has the same set-up. Well, the rowing machines don't have the TV screens. I sometimes will bring a set of headphones so I can watch the news if I go in the morning, but I tend not to watch or listen to anything. I tend to not work as hard as I should when I try to watch something on TV and workout at the same time. I tend to slow down to the pace of the program. Watching the clock countdown is my motivation.
*And you should also remember that your hearing is a bit more sensitive while you exercise. Always check those volume levels.
-
Whew! DR GINNY the snow should start early enough on Friday....that your Saturday plans can be made or unmade before any travel is necessary.
Snow in NYC......yes I can see it on my TV screen. Usually we have it first, but this time it's you!
-
Watching the Presidential debate. This moderator's qualifications for doing this are - what? Did she win a drawing in her office or soemthing like that?
-
Very interested to hear MR BK's take on THE KID FROM BROOKLYN after his visit this evening. I have mixed feelings about a Danny Kaye impression passing as a show.....
DR KERRY that link you posted yesterday had some very scary - and familiar - images!!!
DR RLP haz arrived at his destination.

Scratching My Cabeza.
That is the title of my new television show!

Lots of reports on snowfall all around the city, but no report yet on how many inches they're expecting at the Central Park Reservoir.
-
DR Edisaurus - rejoicing with you on the good job news! :) :) :)
Will you be in the NYC area in late January, or elsewhere in the state?
We'll be in NYC, probably staying at The Edison, if it's available and not too expensive!
-
Whew! DR GINNY the snow should start early enough on Friday....that your Saturday plans can be made or unmade before any travel is necessary.
...
From your lips, DR JRand...
-
How exciting to hear of your NYC trip, DR EDISAURUS....I shall be there, too....IF I WIN THE POWERBALL this month!
-
DR SINGDAW - love the MAMMA MIA trailer.
-
DR FJL - I may be mis-speaking here, but it seems that you have quite the fixation on the Central Park Reservoir lately. What say you?
;)
-
Always on the lookout for a running gag.
Or in the case of the reservoir, a jogging gag.
-
Or reservoir.
For the French Speakers on HHW.
-
DR edisaurus - I'd look into hotel rooms sooner than later. A friend of mine just booked a few days at his usual stand-by, The Skyline - which also happens to be my usual stand-by - and for some strange unknown reason, their traditionally low January rates are almost double(!) what they were last year. And once he started checking some other properties, he noticed the same trend elsewhere. However, he did find that the rates on the East Side tended to run lower, even at some of the nicer hotels.
-
Meanwhile, no one's answered my question of a little while back. Does "stuff" actually happen AT the reservoir, or is it like a bar on nightclub where people meet?
-
This is where my friend Adam is staying this week in NYC....don't know much about it....
http://www.thirtythirty-nyc.com/ (http://www.thirtythirty-nyc.com/)
-
Jrand - Is that like Off wiedersein.
Did anyone else ever think that when someone said "A bientot," they were saying "I'll be in touch."
-
Meanwhile, no one's answered my question of a little while back. Does "stuff" actually happen AT the reservoir, or is it like a bar on nightclub where people meet?
My impression is that The Reservoir is like snow.....but then everyone knows that joke. :o
-
I don't know the snow joke, if you get my drift.
-
I don't know the snow joke, if you get my drift.
You never know how many inches you're going to get, or how long it's going to last. ;D

There's nothing like a good snow joke, and of course, that was nothing like a good snow joke.
(that referred to my post, not Jrand's, of course.)

The Jolson Story and Jolson Sings Again coming up on TCM! You exactly what you're going to get there!
-
I'm listening to the lovely Wanda Sa, one of many sexy Brazilian singers from the 60s. In the Astrud Gilberto mold, which is okay by me.
Wanda was Sergio's vocalist in Brasil '65, which is how she got her Capitol deal. She is also the ex-wife of Edu Lobo, one of the most incredible composers post-Jobim. Among his many classics are "Pra Dizer Adeus (To Say Goodbye)," "Casa Forte" and "Upa, Neguinho." Edu and Wanda's son Bena has a couple of CDs out. BK, you owe it to yourself to get Edu's album with The Tamba Trio--you will be in aural heaven.

There's nothing like a good snow joke, and of course, that was nothing like a good snow joke.

So she was Wanda Sa Lobo?

See my edit to my post. Your excellent snow joke intervened.

She was as pure as the driven snow, but she drifted.

That reminds me of the famous "Driftwood" number on the Mary tyler Moore variety hour.

Here is a topic.....worst musical number in a film.....where you think a fine song was ruined by presentation:
My first nomination:
Lazy with Mitzi Gaynor, Donald O'Conner, and Miss Marilyn Monroe.
-
"The World is a Circle" from Lost Horizon
-
OMG it IS on YouTube.

Maybe it's just Mitzi's horrible outfit that drives me nuts.

The finale of the film "Mame" with the famous "Hug collage"
-
The finale of the film "Mame" with the famous "Hug collage"
Well there is that, too. ::)
-
I remember the great camp classic TV commercial of the early 1970's with Mitzi Gaynor bursting out of the "Alice blue gown" and come-hithering with a vampy "Uh, huh, huh."
-
The Reservoir - I assume much like "The hill" area of London's Hampstead Heath.
But then that doesn't really answer the question. Ah liasons!
-
I did not however wear an alice blue gown to Hampstead Heath.
-
Streisand singing "Are You Watching Me Now?" during her seven-minute close-up in a Star is Born.
-
As one director said: "I can't use Mitzi, she always gives 200%!!"

If not, we should.

Had a nice lunch out. It was warm and relaxing. It's clouding up right now so we may be in for some rain.

The finale of the film "Mame" with the famous "Hug collage"
The dumbest ending ever for a movie musical.

I began my afternoon viewing with last night's CSI: NY. Two murder cases, one very gruesome (an exploding cigar takes off a man's face) and one really tragic (a young kid on a bicycle hit by a stray bullet.) I enjoyed the show very much though the mysteries weren't very mysterious.
-
Next came today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. The gay characters did not appear nor were they in the previews for Friday.
-
Then I watched another episode of DIRT. Rick Fox was the guest star.
-
Page Seven Harry Potter Dance!!!
-
I'll continue with DIRT tonight until CSI at 9. Should be able to get through half the set by the time I settle in with prime time TV.
-
Just watched DR FJL's clip. There is a special hell for the people that created some of those television "specials."
All I can say is:
-
I got the HARRY POTTER Blu-ray treasure chest today. Good golly, what a set! Besides all the films in high definition, the thing has several bonus discs, and set of Potter memorabilia cards and an expensive-looking set of metallic bookmarks based on Potter items.
Of course, I won't actually be able to get to watching the films until next week, but it's nice to have them here now.
-
Also in the mail today were review copies of THE HEARTBREAK KID and THE TUDORS (Season 1). I'm going to be SO busy over the next few weeks.
-
Several websites had reported that people buying the Blu-ray box version of the HARRY POTTER films were discovering that THE GOBLET OF FIRE wasn't in Blu-ray but had been mistakenly packed with the HD-DVD version. That was the first thing I checked when my box arrived today. Thankfully, the disc is Blu-ray as it is supposed to be.

I decided to give the rowing machine a try. It's always been one of those machines that looked "boring" to me, so I never really gave it a shot. Recently, I've been coming across articles about a "good rowing machine workout", so I went ahead and gave it a try today.
I knew my upper body got a good workout, but I was surprised at how much of a workout my legs got. I definitely had "sea legs" once I stood up after my workout. Whew!
I love rowing machines! At least the one I used to use. My friend and former personal trainer, Jim Wharton, used to say that rowing machines were only a good cardio workout, but I disagree. I agree with Jose, that they provide a good upper body--and, to some degree, lower body--workout, as well.

Ugh! Local media now using words like "plowable" to refer to Saturday's snow, but it looks like it won't start early enough to close the library in the morning. So, I'll probably risk life and limb to get here and no one will show up for my workshop.

Favorite Jerry Herman song: DEAR WORLD
It Takes All Kinds: DEAR WORLD is one of my favorite scores but its title song is pathetic, in my book.
-
DR JoseSPiano - the gym where I go has individual televisions [with headphones] for each piece of aerobic excercise equipment. I'm not dedicated enough to admit that without that, I would find the time I spend excercising absolutely unendurable. :-\
I listen to BK-produced CDs while on my stationary bike. Jason Graae is my favorite for exercising.
I agree, though, that walks are simply more interesting. And I think the fresh air is good, too.

DR Donna kindly showed us the pear tree. Here's the partridge:

I'm back from THE MIST, which is a wonderful film adaptation of Stephen King's novella. The movie is bleaker than the story with a truly crushing finale. Good cast, and I loved seeing Frances Sternhagen, who seems to be taking on now all the roles left open by the death of Jessica Tandy. She's quite wonderful in this, as are Toby Jones, Thomas Jane, and the rest of the cast. The creatures are quite terrifying and there are some marvelous sequences. Interesting use of music as well.
-
singdaw - To quote someone from somewhere else on the internet: It's just craptastic!

Truly cringeworthy!

Well, I just spent the past hour or so planning my trip back home to Virginia for Christmas for the holidays. I tried this airline. I tried that airline. I checked flights from La Guardia. I checked flights from JFK. I checked flights into Richmond. I checked flights into DC - both DCA and Dulles. And after going through all those permutations, I finally settled on flying out from LGA next Thursday into Richmond, and then flying back on New Year's Day. So, I guess I'll be spending both Christmas and New Year's Eve down in Virginia.
I did look into flying back sometime between Christmas and New Year's, but the airfares were just a bit on the ridiculous side. In any case, at least now I can plan my last week of 2007 here in NYC.

LOL. IMHO, a bit of wicked wit is quite healthy!

Yes, Dorothy Parker had a wonderful wit! But I'm sure she was something else to be around if her wit was aimed at you!

As for what happens at The Reservoir, well... Whenever I've been there, I'm usually walking or running - counter-clockwise as the signs say to - so that's about all I see happening. People walking and/or running. And stopping in the middle of the path to take pictures... grrrrr...
However... As for what happens in other parts of the Park, well... Seriously, I'm still surprised that such "activity" continues to go on. Alas, it still does. During some of my walks through the Park, I've seen policemen on foot patrol checking off the beaten paths. :-\
-
I guess I'll head downstairs now and pick back up with Courtney Cox spinning the DIRT on celebrities.
As someone who's certainly been fodder for the tabloids herself, Courtney must really relish this role to paint the editor with as many nasty, unscrupulous colors as possible.
Certainly makes for fun (trashy) viewing.

Oops! (Sppo!) Forgot to mention. . . .

And since I'll be back in Richmond between Christmas and New Year's, I can now attend the birthday party for Steve's mother. She'll be turning 80. Or will it be 75? In any case, it's some milestone birthday. And not only will I be attending, but it looks like I'll be catering it too! -And most likely helping with some of the evening's entertainment - Steven and I playing piano duets.
-
Well, since it looks like I'll be staying in tonight, I guess I should go ahead and get some laundry done.

It is gruesome, with some bloody sequences and frightening images. The monsters are fantastic creations but truly violent and aggressive in their destruction of mankind and use of the human body as breeding grounds.

There's one truly scary sequence in a pharmacy and a frightening scene of "Christian" humanity at its worst.

I'm a big Jerry Herman fan! Even more of one since meeting him, Don Pippin, Karen Morrow, Paige O'Hare and Jason Graae when they performed here at Carnegie Mellon a couple of years ago. Both Don and Jerry were very gracious to everyone at the reception following. Jason insisted on personally introducing me to Karen Morrow, who had sung the finest "I Don't Want to Know" that I have ever heard.
And on that note, my favorite Herman songs are:
Shalom
Milk and Honey
Love, Look in My Window
Love is Only Love
It Only Takes a Moment
Just Leave Everything to Me
Loving You
Mame
Bosom Buddies
Hello, Dolly
And I Was Beautiful
Kiss Her Now

Aww.... I was just checking out a friend's blog, and he posted the following:
I think this is one of the most brilliant moments in television history. It was on the "Andy Griffith Show," circa 1960. Here's the setup: Ben, the Scrooge-like character in Mayberry, wants a mild-mannered family man jailed on Christmas eve for making moonshine, seeing how Ben sells liquor legally at his own store. The family man explains he was just making some holiday cheer, and Andy -- of course -- is reluctant to lock him up over Christmas. But Ben insists, so Andy decides to bring the guy's family -- and his own -- to the sheriff's office for Christmas Eve. Ben climbs on a stool outside and peers into the jail, secretly longing to join in the spirit of the holiday. He even tries to get himself arrested, to no avail ... And then THIS SCENE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBsarIO_suw)...
-
Hmm... I guess I should start thinking about dinner. Especially since I don't have anything here in the apartment to cook up. Of course, I do have that box of cookies that Disney sent me yesterday... ;)

Back from a fun meeting with Mr. Spirtas and Mr. McDermott, who it was very nice to see again. So, it looks like I'll be directing two back-to-back two-person shows - we'll start each right after the first of the year, although the first couple of months of each will just be choosing material and doing structure work. Should be fun.
-
I must say, the last couple of times I went to Bird's it was not good, so I"m happy to report that today's meal was up to their old standard - great roast chicken, lovely side of Caesar salad, and oh them onion rings, which thankfully all three of us shared.

So... I decided to make a run to the grocery store up the street to buy some paper towels, as well to pick up the fixin's for a pot of chili. Well, once I got back to the apartment, I noticed some similar items laid out on the kitchen counter. It turns out that Jim and Bill had gotten home just a few minutes before I did, and they too made a stop at the store to pick up some Mexican-themed ingredients. So, I may make my chili later tonight - and then let it sit for a day - it always better the day after. And in the meantime, I shall be supping on the Mexican Lasagna that's being composed in the kitchen right now.
-
I hate/have to admit that is sort of fun watching Jim and Bill "cook". The homemaking gene seems to have skipped both of them, and even opening a can of black beans can turn into quite the "event". ;D
-
...At least they're cute. ;)

In other news...
It's been interesting watching some of the coverage of Ike Turner's passing. Due to his status as the "poster boy for spousal assault", there's been a real sense of restraint in the "tributes".

But before I go, yesterday, Jane wrote:
While we hiked today Keith mentioned normally in the wee hours of the morning he contemplates the universe & the meaning of life. This morning he contemplated why Tarzan didn’t have a beard. I thought maybe it had to do with the fact Tarzan didn’t seem to have much hair anywhere else. Keith said nope. Then I suggested he got shaving supplies from the natives who didn’t have beards either. Now he wants to know why the natives didn’t have beards.
I suggested possibly some wise person here might know the answers to these important questions.
What I want to know is (at least in regards to the Disney movie and stage musical), Tarzan doesn't speak and has never heard the English language, except when he was a baby and he shouldn't remember that. If Jane (the movie Jane) and her father are British and speak with British accents, why does Tarzan, when he learns their language from them, speak with an American accent?? That's what I want to know. ;)

But before I go, yesterday, Jane wrote:What I want to know is (at least in regards to the Disney movie and stage musical), Tarzan doesn't speak and has never heard the English language, except when he was a baby and he shouldn't remember that. If Jane (the movie Jane) and her father are British and speak with British accents, why does Tarzan, when he learns their language from them, speak with an American accent?? That's what I want to know. ;)
;D ;D
Keith wanted answers, not more questions ;)

Happy Birthday, DR Tomovoz!!!!!!!
-
!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR TOMOVOZ!!!!!
I hope your day has already been filled with warm wishes, good friends, obedient dogs and Freddo Frogs! :)
-
...And since everyone else had been doing it, I just popped "Hairspray" into my DVD player too. :)
-
OH! And a major Congrats to What If?'s own costume designer, Amy Adams, for her Golden Globe nomination for "Enchanted"!
-
'night
-
Tomovoz, sorry I have to leave before you post your activities so far. I imagine you are having a Teddy Bear party. :)
-
I love the teddy bear parties.
-
In honor of Tomovoz, I tried to find the lyrics to the Golden Globe-winning title song for "Buona Sera Mrs. Campbell," but to no avail.
:)
-
Thank you all for the gifts and flowers but I"m not.....
It's nearly 3 in the afternoon here. We did go out for dinner last night with our friend Lisa. Today has been quiet. I have had my hair cut.
My only food so far today has been some breakfast cereal and an apple.
-
The dogs have a new neighbour. An eight week old Border Collie. Friendships have already been sniffed.
-
Thanks DR FJL. I do have a version on 45 rpm by English singer Mike Preston. It was a minor hit here.
-
Oh, I love border collies. Can you get a photo?
-
Back from a little drive, and shall now sit on my couch like so much fish and do something I never do (I'm saving Hairspray for Saturday or Sunday night) - I'm going to start on channel two and see what's on every channel I get - actually, I've never done this here and maybe I'll find some channels I like.
-
Tomovoz- In lieu of the Buona Sera theme song, he's a birthday etude to the tune of "I'm A Woman, and I've lost a lot of time" from CARMELINA
He's Australian
And he's got a bit of time
He's Australian
And I have no line to rhyme
He posts daily
Very gaily
And the only thing that rhymes with is Disraeli

I watched three more episodes of DIRT including the ones with Grant Show playing the macho action star who has a secret affair with the editor's brother. I wish they could have let that storyline develop a lot more, but with a season only 13 episodes long, they had to start and finish it within two or three episodes.

Bears
-
Page Twelve Harry and Cedric Dance!!!
-
I shall treasure the result of such effort DR FJL.
-
Are those Derek's bears, or yours? Or both?
-
Treasure the valleys, treasure the hills (almost a Raisin reference)
-
Oh, I love border collies. Can you get a photo?
I shall try and remember to do so Dear Reader Laura.
The puppy's name is Millie.
-
TOMOVOZ-
Oh Golly-Oh Gee-ANOTHER BIRTHDAY
Best Wishes To You On This Special Day
-
I watched CSI "live" tonight for the first time in a long time. OK wrap-up of the case begun a week or two ago with Warrick. Dennis Christopher was one of the guest stars. A very gruesome dog fighting scenario was also key to the other mystery during the hour.
-
It would have been a better CARMELINA parody, but I'm a slow Lerner
-
Aww. Cute name, too.
-
Derek's "Ted" is in there. I think Villiam and Valter were having a spa at the time.
-
Listening to the second Pat Williams album, which his homage to songs of Sinatra.
And A Wonderful album it is
-
And I concluded my evening's entertainment with tonight's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. It was a very sad story of a triple homicide and the search to find the killer(s).
-
BK-
And The other Pat Williams I have on LP contains a number called MR SMOKE which is sensational
-
Valter & Villiam
-
There's one truly scary sequence in a pharmacy and a frightening scene of "Christian" humanity at its worst.
Thank you, Larry. I think I'll pass.
-
Valter and Villiam were sent to Derek and myself from STILL sometime lurker Dan in Toronto!
-
Thank you Arnold.
-
It would have been a better CARMELINA parody, but I'm a slow Lerner
perhaps it will be ready sometime in April.
-
Once again I find myself getting to go to bed earlier than expected. So, I'm heading downstairs now.
Good night!
-
Tomovoz - I should have it done before breakfast.
-
The Carmelina Breakfast usually consists of yankee doodles and Campbell soup.
-
Hmmm...
Here's the closing paragraph about the upcoming overhaul of PBS's "Masterpiece Theatre". Looks very interesting..
In addition to the Austen films, which will begin with a new adaptation of “Persuasion,” starring the British actress Sally Hawkins, the season includes “Miss Austen Regrets,” a biography of the novelist. Other films include “Cranford,” a three-part mini-series starring Judi Dench; “My Boy Jack,” starring Daniel Radcliffe, of the Harry Potter movies, playing the son of the author Rudyard Kipling; and a new adaptation of E. M. Forster’s “Room With a View.”

A nice Cesar salad might go well. Or I'll just stir-fry something in the wok I keep around the garden.
-
with yankee noodles?
-
Which is obviously a sign that I've not yet read the previous posts!
-
Sweet Georgia Brown.
I do wish more people were familiar with this charming musical. Mama Mia!

SPOLIER
With the look on Lou Gedda's face at the end, I think the Warrick tale has more to unfold

Does anyone else remember Gina Lolla-jupiter from The Jetsons?
-
All this talk of Pat Williams music caused me to go to Amazon, listen to some snippets of his SINATRALAND CD and then put it into my wishlist for future purchasing.
Oy, HHW costs me SO much money!
-
And I am wondering if either DR Jrand or BK purchased this week the new DVD release of the 1960s Toho film LATITUDE ZERO...Akira Takarada, Joseph Cotten and Patricia Medina...what's not to like!
This is one Japanese sci-fi that I have never seen, but have always heard about, so I cannot wait for my DVD to arrive!!!

no!
Was Buena Sarah in fiddler on the roof?
-
I'm getting siepi, I mean sleepy.
Hope it's a great birthday, Tom.
-
Thank you Fred. A few people will be here for lunch tomorrow.
Pleasant dreams to you.
-
To DR Tomovoz and Colin and Magnus and Fosca, Good Afternoon!
Or as "we" like to say at this point and time: Goodnight.
:)
-
Happy natal day, dearest of DRS, tomovoz! :-*
-
Happy arvo to you, too!
-
FJL, you make me laugh. And I think it's probably intentional. ;)
-
Goodnight - woofs (NO ! I am not another site and becoming confused) DR Jose.
