Well, you've read the notes, the notes were happy and new, and now it is time to post until the Happy New Year cows come home happily.
-
And the word of the day is: EBULLIENT!
-
Can you believe it's 2008?
-
And it we wouldn't be starting off 2008 unless I said - will we never get to page two?
-
We've suddenly got us a whole slew of late-night denizens.
-
I had a big swig of Diet Coke directly at midnight.
-
Everyone must be reading Ye Olde Notes.
-
The dogs woke me up - they needed to go out, and I suppose they wanted me to join the West Coast in welcoming 2008.
-
Let's get this first day of the New Year off to a good posting start!
-
Yep... smart dogs singdaw!
-
My Eyetalian dinner is still sitting in my stomach like so much fish, and it's still making me very thirsty.
-
posting, posting, posting!
-
singdaw, all the catching up of posts will keep you out of mischief ;D
-
Woohoo Happy New Year to all!!!
-
There are certainly a LOT of fireworks going off...you'd think it was Fourth of July or something.!
-
Half way through my Bollywood movie...sort of a 007 meets Robin Hood...quite fun! But I will finish it tomorrow. I is tired!
-
singdaw, all the catching up of posts will keep you out of mischief ;D
:) I'm not so sure about that...
Those Hainsie/Kimlets can, at times, be very naughty!
-
Back from walking the dog, from watching BLOOD WILL TELL (nice performance by Daniel Day Lewis...can't say I much cared for the movie though). Happy New Year!
-
:) I'm not so sure about that...
Those Hainsie/Kimlets can, at times, be very naughty!
and here I thought everyone was pure and innocent as driven snow ;)

-
Pogue, if you go back a few days you'll see that we agree about There Will Be Blood - great performance, but not a great movie.
-
And a dreadful musical score.
-
It seems that many dogs are being walked in honor of the New Year...
Or Nature Calls...
Or something.
:)
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Let's all list our favorite haineshisway.comisms.
-
Contemplating bedding down for the night... It is after 2 here..
-
I'm going to bed in about fifteen minutes.
-
But not before page two, baby, not before page two.
-
It's taken me this long to get to this page (but it does include me reading the new Notes) but here is the official moment!!:
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page two.

Many of us "drift"
In fact, isn't that you, drifting, right there in your avatar? ;)
-
I'm going to watch some of The Blob in the bedroom DVD player.

Perhaps I shall brush my teeth now.

Lambada - The Forbidden Dance.
-
He's gotta tell us.
-
Will we never get to 2009?
-
Will ever get to page (fill in the page number)
-
When I posted my last post of the official time clock, there were only 20 posts on page 1, but it took so long to post that another 11 posts were made by the time I started writing this post! Something is wrong with my computer. >:(
-
.... any comments concerning the activities of the cows...
-
The cleaning of the skin.
The brushing of the teeth.
We float...

Will we never get to 2009?
Well, we have to get to the last Friday in 2008 first.

-
DR DakotaCelt, we are supposed to post until they come home happily.
-
Singdaw, you are up late...
-
DR DakotaCelt, we are supposed to post until they come home happily.
And do you, sir, care to pleasure a cow?
der Brucer
-
The dogs want treats and back to snuggling under the warm covers!
Good night, all.
-
And do you, sir, care to pleasure a cow?
Well frankly, it hadn't occurred to me. :P
-
I have brushed my various and sundried teeth and now I smell very good and have oh, so kissable lips.
-
I think page three is in sight.
-
but do they ever come home?
-
I shan't sleep until page three.
-
The cows came home once, but I was out and they got very annoyed.
-
The GUESTS have dropped like flies.
-
How does one know when cows come home? ARe the dressed in the finest fashions? Western regalia? drag?
-
I think page three is nigh.
-
How nigh is it?
-
better puter vibes for George's puter....
Thanks. :)
-
and why would they be annoyed with you bk?
-
Nigh, baby, nigh.
-
and it is done.... Page3!!
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page three. Those who WUSSBURGERED will have a lot of reading to do.
-
I shall now get my beauty sleep and be back here bright and early in the morning.
-
Good night... I need to rest the fingers...
Pleasant dreams!
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page three. Those who WUSSBURGERED will have a lot of reading to do.
I just reached page 18 from yesterday.
-
... now I smell very good and have oh, so kissable lips.
Maybe that will lure the cows back home.
der Brucer
-
I did something to my computer and it's now zipping along and refreshing pages and changing pages as quick as it's supposed to! But I don't know why my computer was slow in the evening, and not in the morning. :-\ I'll have to experiment some more.
What I did was disconnect my external hard drive. I bought a 500 Gigabyte USB2 external hard drive earlier this summer. I haven't had any trouble with my computer until the last couple of weeks. Hmmm.
-
And I only seemed to have "issues" of refresh time when I was on HHW, which I'm on ALL the time.
-
And now, I'm going to bed. I'll catch up to yesterday's posts (starting with Page 18) tomorrow.
Goodnight, anyone who's here. :)

Reading the plot summary of Wrestling Women vs. The Aztec Mummy.
I am aghast, agape, akimbo, and LMAO!!!! :)
Though he has already created a half man-half ape named Gomar, a mad doctor's experiments on female brain transplants have been failures. Why? "The brains come from totally uneducated women!" But the Doctor of Doom quickly zeroes in on "a stronger type of woman" in the form of gorgeous wrestling pals Gloria Venus and Golden Rubi, sending Gomar and his henchmen to abduct them. After Gloria throws acid in his face, the doc, disfigured and crazier than ever, puts Gomar's gorilla brain into the body of one of Gloria's galpals to create "Vendetta," a Superhuman Wrestling Woman whose goal is to kill Gloria in the ring! Plus, Gloria Venus (now renamed Loretta) and Golden Rubi are back to crack the heads of an Asian gang led by a Fu Manchu-like character known as "The Black Dragon," who's killing off archaeologists in hops of discovering the Treasure of the Aztecs. Entering a tomb and discovering the living remains of a mummified witch doctor who can also change himself into a spider and bat, it time for the main event: The Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy!

I agree with DR td on two of the sports pictures:
RAGING BULL
FIELD OF DREAMS
And, of course, the HARRY POTTER movies feature their own sport, but I don't think they actually qualify in today's TOD.
-
I have an unusual day today. My friend Gregg comes in from St. Louis mid-afternoon and I'll be getting him at the airport. Then, we'll head to a Chinese restaurant for dinner.
So, my day will be split and my time at HHW a bit different today.

The newspaper may have wrong information, but it looked like there are new episodes of LAW & ORDER: SVU and BOSTON LEGAL tonight. On New Year's Day? Well, I'll be setting the DVR to pick them up, I guess. I'd like to see the Jerry Herman/PBS special "live."
-
Before I leave for the airport, I'll be watching the bonus features on THE NAKED PREY disc. That should finish me up with it today, and then I can get back to that masterpiece TV series that is ROB & BIG.
-
Good Morning, once again!
I made it to the airport in no time flat from Steve's place, so I decided to grab a mocha and a Blackberry White Chocolate Scone from Caribou Coffee and enjoy them leisurely before making my way through security. And once through security, I started catching up on the rest of the posts from last year night.
-
DR MBarnum - "Research"?!?!?! Even I don't call it "research" any longer.
;D
-
DR George - As for your page-loading problems last night... It could have just been heavy traffic on the various computer servers. I could tell the speed was a bit slower at Steve's last night - I guess a lot of people on the internet at midnight. -And it also took me a few minutes to not get the "All Circuits Are Busy" message when I tried calling my family after midnight. However...
Your computer may be cache-ing your temporary internet files on your new external hard drive, and/or it may be accessing any art work and other files you have saved "locally" that you've uploaded to HHW. Check your browser browser preferences and check to see how much hard drive space you have set aside on your main disk for disk caching. Bump it up a couple of megs or even a gig and see if that helps your page load time.

I think I may see a show tonight, time-permitting. I'll see what's on TKTS. Maybe. Maybe not.
-
FIGHTING TOMMY RILEY - I rented this from Netflix and enjoyed it tremendously.
Former boxer and washed-up trainer Marty Goldberg (Eddie Jones) could get one last hurrah in the form of a raw young fighter (played by screenwriter J.P. Davis) who displays championship potential. But the novice pugilist also has a self-destructive streak and a troubled past that could sink his fledgling career. Each encumbered by heavy emotional burdens, Marty and his protégé must learn trust and the value of partnership to prevail in the ring.
Eddie Jones gives a memorable performance.
-
Good morning, all! THE NUTCRACKER ended about 11:50, and so did I. Last night I watched the 1968 broadcast of the Royal Ballet in a "version" by Nureyev. I must say that, while the original ballet makes a mess of ETA Hoffmann's story, Nureyev's playing several roles and mucking about with the score screws up the storytelling more. The later Royal Ballet production by Peter Wright from the 1980s is much better, but I'm still partial to Balanchine's, even if he destroys the construction of the final pas de deux. If it weren't for Balanchine in 1954, there wouldn't be the plethora of "Nutcrackers" around December that there are today. Unfortunately, most of the choreographers lack the genius of Mr B.
So, Happy New Year to all of you! I'm glad the festivities on HHW went on endlessly and extremely happy that I did not
This morning, I need to close out my account books and then work a bit on "The Lady Of the Slipper." Around 2:15 or so, I shall wend my way southward to a New Year's Day Event chez DR FJL and Skip, something I've been looking forward to all week.

If you're paying $27.50, you're paying too much, I got mine for $19.95 at Borders. I've also seen them at Half-Price Books for the same. I think I even once saw it at Best Buy (a while back) for the same.

It's not the Writers Strike that's killing TV, it's commercials. I watched a bit of Kathy Griffin last night on Bravo, but had to give up after one commercial break. I heard there are now sixteen minutes of commercial for every hour of TV. And they are always the same boring commercials at each break. Life is too short. These days it's just easier to wait six months, a year for a TV boxed set than to put up with the endurance contest that watching a TV show has become. Remember when there were only six one-minute commercials for every hour of TV and often, you got the host doing the commercial live.

New Year's Day greetings! I slept until 10am, which is unheard of for me. We're watching the Rose Parade and getting ready for the Capital One Bowl kickoff (Go Blue!). Need to get the chili simmering.

One reason I tape and then I can fast forward through a commercial....
Some of the local ads are so repetitive in this area I cringe when I see them during a newscast.
-
CP, I concur with your comments....
-
That is one nice thing about public television... You can sit down and actually enjoy a program and not be distracted by annoyingly bad commercials.

We had guests over last night and played a very fun new Cranium game called Pop 5. Then Betsy and I watched Kathy Griffin. It was fun to guess the chronology of the shows based upon her nose and other facial reconstruction surgery. :)
-
I'm listening to a very fun Time Life compendium of "Exotica," featuring the usual suspects (Denny, Baxter) along with some rarer stuff.
-
The DH and I just watched the Jerry Herman documentary, and it is dynamite! :) :)
-
For tonight's dinner, I've already planned to serve der Brucer a nice piece of ham, some sauteed spinach, and...
HOPPIN' JOHN.
He's going to protest this, I know. He does not care for Hoppin' John, not even a whit.
However, last year I failed to make Hoppin' John, as the store ran out of black eyed peas in any form or kind. And der Brucer did not have very good luck throughout the year of 2007.
So, just to be on the safe side, I've already purchased a can of black eyed peas.
I've also found a different recipe, in the Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook, which calls for black eyed peas, rice, pepper (both black and red), and crushed tomato! Some purists may scoff, but I think it will make for an interesting variation.
And, hopefully, for better luck in 2008.
-
Time to make lunch.
-
I have never heard of Hoppin' John, SWW...
I plan on making turkey potpie
-
The DH and I just watched the Jerry Herman documentary, and it is dynamite! :) :)
I agree--and the DVD has some nice extras on it, including the complete footage (beautifully filmed, incredibly) of Herman's 1955 college production number. What kind of school filmed their musicals in 1955? ???
-
Hoppin' John is essentially a Southern tradition, where eating some on New Year's Day ensures good luck through the next year.
There are variations on the tradition, of course. Some say that you also have to have greens, because the greens ensure bills while the peas only give you pennies. This strikes me as being terribly greedy.
There's another tradition that says eating saurkraut on New Years Day also guarantees good luck. But I serve up saurkraut at other times of the year, baked slowly in the oven with pork, so I'm sticking with the Hoppin' John.

WElcome back Jose.... Glad you have a safe journey from Richmond...
-
If I could wish one thing for 2008 that would have universal meaning, it would be for folks to consider the "unexpressed thought" more often...and remove tons of verbal diarrhea from the internet and the air waves.
;)
-
And I've already unpacked my bags and put everything away - well, I do have to put a few shirts on some hangers, but that's really all there is to do. -Doing my laundry yesterday was a very smart thing to do. :) And since I had done a good amount of tidying up and cleaning before I left for Richmond, I'm basically starting 2008 off in a very clean and semi-organized state.
And thankfully(?), I do not have another apartment's bathroom above my room - like my roomies upstairs do. Apparently, the bathroom in Apartment 2 overflowed, and the water continued to overflow into the walls and ceiling of the upstairs bathroom. :-\ *And I just have to wonder just how and why it would take whoever is in Apartment two so long to notice that they had a water issue in their bathroom?!?!? -Unless they had flushed on the way out the door... In any case, it's not a pretty sight right now, and, of course, in true "landlord fashion", when the handyman was called to look at the damage, he said he could not do anything right then and there since we needed to fill in a work request. SHEESH!?!!?
But, again, my room is fine. And Jim's room is fine. And the middle room is fine. However, some of that water also crept into the other roomie's room, so... ;)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I mean, if someone was given four weeks to process an invoice at the end of the year, don't you think they would try to get that done so that all the books line up? Ah, well.. Guess I have to make a phone call or two tomorrow.
However, three other "things" were waiting for me in my stack of mail, so... :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Ron, incredible sunset!
It was magical. I'm amazed that the picture captured it so well!

Ciaoders for Niaoders!

Beautiful sunset Ron....

Just stubbed my little toe and it is the same one I broke a number of years ago... Man, it hurts....
I just sneezed and got a wad of mucous on my palm.
-
I want my next house to have views like that.
-
Ciaoders for Niaoders!
Laters...
Niaoders?
Niaoders?
How about Miaoders?
Or Meowders? :P
-
I just sneezed and got a wad of mucous on my palm.
Can you describe it to us? The color? The viscosity? The placement on your palm?
Although, I guess you could also just take a picture of it with your new camera.
;D
-
LOL-my post should not have followed the mucus post-LOL
-
I want my next house to have views like that.
May you have views like that from every window!
I can only see that view from my balcony...and then I have to look to my left a bit. Can't see much of it from the door.
-
I want my next house to have views like that.
Let me know when you guys are getting ready for your "next" house, as Betsy and I will be down to take over your "now" house. ;)
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
May all your dreams come true, may every day be healthy, happy and joyful!
-
Can you describe it to us? The color? The viscosity? The placement on your palm?
Although, I guess you could also just take a picture of it with your new camera.
;D
It was dispensed with rather quickly. If I had to describe it, I'd have to say it was more your viscous, slightly tinted green variety of mucous...with perhaps a rubber-cement-out-of-the-bottle consistency. I grabbed a tissue and cleaned it up immediately. And then I disposed of tissue in bathroom trash and washed my hands.
I knew a kid once who ate everything he could pull out of his nose.
;D
-
lol-JKM. I LOVE this house. It is the yard maintenance that is consuming. I'm tired of watching Keith work so hard.
-
Oh, shoot!
There I go expressing thoughts that should probably go unexpressed.
I'll have to work on that!
-
Elmo was just here...and now he's gone. I wonder if he rushed off to keep a New Year's Day playdate!

For my main New Year's meal, I'm having pork, collards, black-eyed peas and cornbread stuffing.

2007, from late June until September 27, I achieved my dream of spending every day writing. Specifically, re-writing Such Good Friends; making a myriad of improvements under the intelligent guidance of a brilliant Boy Wonder director. The final three weeks of that period involved generous contributions from ten actors who cared about telling the story in the most entertaining way possible. Cut their lines? OK by them, because no one was in it for "me" - everyone was in it for "us."
What I LOVED more than anything was the daily improvement of the show. We were doing this to entertain an audience, and the actual NYMF run, September 28-October 6 was the pay-off to a truly communal effort. No musical that premiered in 2007 got better notices and awards, but all of this is icing on the cake.
(I hasten to point out that the sci-fi musicals by others who post here premiered in other years - no comparison is implied)
Taking time off from the rewriting efforts to check in with the merry denizens of HHW was fun for me, and I hope you enjoyed the updates. I know several of you enjoyed the show, and I'm very grateful you took the time to attend.
I agree with everything BK had to say about Sweeney Todd. Joy's calling; gotta run.
-
I have this very day just written the first five pages of my new novel. What fun.
-
Mr. Pearl's partay is from two to six.
-
I have a memory of Hoppin' John when I attended a party many years ago at actress Lee Purcell's house. My memory is that not only did you have to put a big spoonfull in your big mouth, you then had to hop around a table - am I remembering right? What is the exact recipe and the exact procedure?
-
Happy New Year to all!
We are still in the curtain hanging process. Who knew it would be so involved?
-
I'll probably write another half-page before the day is done, and I'm sure I'll futz with what I've written as I do with all the beginnings of my books, but it was nice to get it going. I've been thinking about it for the last four months and have been chomping at the bit to begin. In fact, I rewrote the first three paragraphs incessantly before moving on. I think they're okay now.

DEMSELLES (or however you spell it) is one of my favorite filmusicals too. In fact the trilogy with it, LES PARAPLUIES DE CHERBOURG and PEU D'ANNE rank second among post 60s musicals after THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL. Glad it got a nice mention here.
The new issue of CLASSIC IMAGES features a nice interview with a former child star who was a former
Hainsie-Kimlet. The only problem is that she promised me I could do it several years ago and after I got permission from the editor she changed her mind.
Happy 2008 from current reader and infrequent poster William E. Lurie.

Noel, you were very blessed to have a NYMF experience where "no one was in it for 'me' - everyone was in it for 'us.'" Congrats on that and for the good things that have come to you.
-
Hello, again. Well, it's been a busy day. Marvelous Matt found a giant hole in the attic wall where some siding had fallen off and fixed it. He, too, thinks it was a squirrel (other possibilities are even worse to think about). And said squirrel had NOT, thankfully, taken up residence in said attic--apparently he only came in for the occasional visit--so no need to trap him, etc. I'm hoping that this solves the problem, ie no other holes we aren't aware of, etc.
-
Also, the phone keeps ringing. I did manage to get a bit of work done, though not as much as I'd hoped. Oh, well. I'm caught up on the posts--first things first, right?

Yeah, yeah, but what about page nine? Of course, FJL is having another partay, which means several of our beloved hainsies/kimlets will be there instead of here, but hopefully after the ball they'll be here instead of there. Luckily, it's easy to be here instead of there - all you have to do is remove the "t".

I'm listening to Liz Callaway. Anyone heard of her? Just kidding.

Well this morning after waking up angry about one of the political candidates and after an unprovoked email attack from a crazy immigration lawyer in Des Moines on our immigration law listserv(everyone said I should ignore him, but when it's a personal attack you have to say something). I decided that my New Year's Resolution is to get rid of avoidable negativity in my life. Some is inevitible and some is probably necessary, but there is so much that is just not necessary and I'm going to get that out of my life.
Several years ago I felt the same way. I had a couple friends who had very negative attitudes. It was wearing me down. It was difficult for me to do, but I had to just let go of those friendships. As for the non-friend negativity, well, that's a bit easier.

That is one nice thing about public television... You can sit down and actually enjoy a program and not be distracted by annoyingly bad commercials.
No, instead you get twenty minute pledge-breaks.

I will be eating saurkraut on some hot dogs I will be grilling on my balcony later today.

Thanks for the info. I don't think it has anything to do with Internet traffic. It's only on my computer (not my work computer) and it's only been a problem on HHW...once I go to another site, it's quick again. And I haven't gotten any error messages. It just takes forever to load the pages. But I upped the caching folder amount. We'll see if that helps. :)
-

This afternoon, I finished listening to the audio commentary on the NAKED PREY DVD. Very well done, interestingly composed, and the writer has a pleasing voice to listen to for 98 minutes.
-
Surprisingly, the bonus features on the disc are pretty skimpy for a Criterion disc. They have Paul Giamatti reading the story of Robert Colter that the film's screenplay was based on. But that was less than 5 minutes.
-
All of the soundtrack's music cues can be accessed and listened to individually, but the native African rhythms and chanting wouldn't exactly be my music of choice if I was wanting to listen to something.
-
And then there was the theatrical trailer which ran 3 minutes. That's it for bonus features!
-
After I was finished with it, I put on the 1953 film of KISS ME KATE, another musical I hadn't watched since getting the TV back in September. I watched the entire movie and the "making of" featurette before shutting everything off to head to the airport.

I did the Freerecorder add-on
It didn't "play nice" with Finale on my computer, so I had to trash it. :(

DRs TCB and George, I thought "These Bases Are Loaded" was a film about drunk male choristers!
I'm back from another delightful social gathering at the home of DR FJL and Skip Kennon, complete with scintillating conversation with a wonderful group of friends and delicious home cooking courtesy of Mr Kennon. Excellent fried chicken, beans, salad, corn muffins and fantastic desserts: a red wine cake and a scrumptious blueberry pie. Toby and Dylan were welcoming and happy to see us all. I can't imagine a better New Year's Day.
Thank you, gentlemen.
-
Dr Mbarnum, be sure to have a hanky handy when you watch your first Bollywood movie of 2008; it is quite sad.
KAL HO NAA HO also boasts one of the best scores I have heard from Bollywood, a bittersweet title song in addition to an updated, Bollywood-style American rock classic.

I'm intrigued what red wine cake tastes like. Is the cake red?

td, how is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Well, I hope will hear ALL about the partay from the usurper known as FJL, after he's done doing the dishes. I'm back from the Barry Pearl partay, which was actually a lot of fun. My old pal and dildo Jeff Harlan was there, with his very nice girlfriend. Many actors, such as Bart Braverman (from Vegas), Hershcel Sparber (a VERY tall person who played Big Julie in the revival of Guys and Dolls, and was in the original cast of City Of Angels), writer Sam Bobrick (many sitcoms) and many, many others, including Randi (The Karate Kid) Heller. Lots of food there, altough I didn't eat anything other than some carrot sticks.

I did indeed do the dishes tonight. It was an all-plastic-dish-and-plastic-utensils-and-plastic-cups affair (except for the coffee cups, when I did think about you :) - a vague Sondheim reference), so doing the dishes consisted of throwing two garbage bags down the garbage chute.

I have been trying to save some key video clips from YouTube on my computer's hard drive.
It seems Actor's Equity has already had some that I had wanted to save removed!
-
We need a photograph of Red Wine Cake!

Email me, ColeSlaw. . .perhaps I already have downloaded some of what you're looking for. . .

Love that bob-cat! Well, cougar. Nightly, we hear the coyotes howl.
-
Nightly, we hear the coyotes howl.
Oh, is THAT what that is? :-X
-
It didn't "play nice" with Finale on my computer, so I had to trash it. :(
That's weird--I have Finale and Encore and nothing strange happened. Finale and Encore record to MIDI files, anyway, not WAV or MP3s.
-
DR JMK - Perhaps it was just a coincidence, then. Computers can be such a caution... :-\
-
we have coyotes howling quite often out here
However a few years ago I used to play a wolf howl sound file everytime my neighbors got overly noisy in their amorous pursuits
-
Loved the photos!
-
singdaw - The red wine cake is on this page at Cook's Korner, if you scroll down to post #2608.

and the Hoppin' John and blueberry pie are at post #2619 on the same page as my earlier post

OK, that is some SERIOUS food porn!
And there are some really serious foodies on that site!!!!
Thanks, DR FJL.

nice work singdaw.....
-
You could become Paula's sidekick!
-
Cilla, I know too well how difficult it is to get shots through windows, let alone screens too. Well done.
This is my first cougar sighting since we have lived here. I know they are out there, as well as bears. So far I really haven’t minded not seeing them up close. A sleeping cougar was interesting, yet I wish the neighbor had called me sooner.
-
However a few years ago I used to play a wolf howl sound file everytime my neighbors got overly noisy in their amorous pursuits
;D
-
I did take a photograph - I'll try to upload it right now.
-
Here is the sunset as captured by my photographic device.
-
We haven't had a sunset like that in a 'coon's age.
-
Bk’s sunset view
Warm colors glowing brightly
Heralds the New Year

Good Evening!
I'm back from Chez L & K, and as was recounted by DR elmore, and Mssr. L. himself, it was a wonderful gathering and a truly delicious meal, from the appetizers to the dessert. Many, many thanks to our fine hosts and chef. *And I get to enjoy some more of Skip's fried chicken tomorrow too. :)
-
Beautiful sunset.
-
After the more than swell New Year's Partay, I walked through Times Square and midtown for a bit. I was kind of surprised at how many storefronts and restaurants were closed tonight, and I was really surprised by how many shows were dark tonight. When I stopped by TKTS there weren't that many shows up there, mainly because there weren't that many running. I guess most shows had a show last night, and then gave the companies off tonight.
*I had a "scare" when I walked by The Palace. The whole front was literally boarded up. I guess that was put up in order to protect it from the New Year's Eve revelers. -There was also lots of confetti from last night's festivities in the Virgin Megastore.
And, as is my tradition, I went to Border's and bought my calendars for the year. At 50% off. -They were only 25% off at Virgin - ?!?!?
-
The composer I asked to score the gold film sent us two kringle from the midwest.
I have never had kringle before, but they are yummy!
(in my best Homer Simpson voice) Hmm... Kringle.
:)
-
And in honor of Elmore's VHS collection:
These Bases Are Loaded ;)
Oh, then I guess you could add "Spokes" too.
:-X
-
Very chilly, with high winds and snow.
The snow is quite light, but a major downfall is expected overnight.
Fortunately, by the time I head out for work, the roads should be nice and clean.
That is not a haiku, DR td.
;)
-
I am making a steak.
A steak is making me.
Is that a West Hollywood haiku, yes or no?
No, it is not. However, it's very easy to "correct":
I am making a sssssssteak.
A sssssssteak is making me.
Is that a Wesssssst Hollywood haiku, yessssss or no?
;D
-
Great photos all around!
-
FJL, the cake, and entire meal, look great. I'll have to check out the cake recipe.
-
Bruce, beautiful photo. Thank you.
-
Gosh, KAL HO NAA HO was such a wonderful movie! I had always heard from people (including TD, IIRC) that I should see it...but no one told me I would need to keep a box of kleenex close by for the entire final hour! :'(
-
Bk’s sunset view

Is that a haiku?

I guess TD did warn me, but not before I watched the movie! LOL!
-
DR Laura, those saddle shoes are cute, and the faces to go with them not bad. ;)
-
Is that a haiku?
Yes, it is.

Loved the Saddleshoes... I always thought it was interesting that they made a bit of a comeback for a few months in the mid 80s
-
Anyone recall the prairie blouses?
-
I've seen them in the stores again.
The shoes that is, not the blouses.

Yes, it is.

Thanks td, Dakota, DR Laura
I wish I had seen the cougars face.
‘night folks.
-
Good evening everyone. Hope you all had a great first day of the year.
-
Back from DR FJLs smashing party, with delicious food provided by DF Skip, and great co-company provided by DRs elmore and Jose, and a few other wonderful friends.
Afterwards, I caught a performance of the Charles Mee musical Queens Boulevard over at the Signature Theater. I wasn't sure what to expect. I know a lot of people have disliked it. I found it quite original, and enjoyed watching the story unfold. At nearly 2 hours without intermission, however, I felt it was just too long. The story started unraveling a bit for me during the last half hour, when I felt it was really losing direction and impact. But I like how it ended, and there were some scenes that I thought were very good.
-
I did indeed do the dishes tonight. It was an all-plastic-dish-and-plastic-utensils-and-plastic-cups affair (except for the coffee cups, when I did think about you :) - a vague Sondheim reference), so doing the dishes consisted of throwing two garbage bags down the garbage chute.
I feel badly now that I ran out and left you with all that work, Fred.
-
-25 windchill here....
Way. Too. Cold.
-
I bought Christmas presents for my computer yesterday. I'd been having a problem---my G3 laptop wouldn't work without the power cable. If it was disconnected, the computer would freeze up, especially while using Safari, even though the battery seemed to be fully charged.
The Mac genius said that my battery was fried and that happens after several years. So I bought a new battery AND a new power cable. The old one had a bent plug and one of the widing wings was broken off.
I charged up the battery and when it hit 37 %, it froze, and again at 17%. Argh.
-
Callie and Boo are the absolute cutest!
Do they make noises as they're watching the squirrel from the window?
I had a cat once that would make odd squeaking noises when watching squirrels and birds -- I never heard those noises at any other time. It was special sounds reserved just for (wishful) pray!
-
Pretty in Pink?

Brent is pretty in any color.
I really like Brent.
-
Absolutely gorgeous sunset, BK.
-
How did i miss a couple of days here?
-
I'm having a lovelier than lovely cozy evening lying on my couch. Sometimes I tell the truth on my couch, but since I was just sitting there like so much fish, I decided to lie on my couch. Just prior to lying on the couch, I'd fixed a few little things I'd written earlier, then wrote and additional page and a half for close to seven pages, which is a LOT of pages for me in one day, especially when beginning a new book.
-
Someone should look it up, but I'm thinking this is the best New Year's Day posting number in our entire history.
-
I've been watching motion pictures that were just TIVOd - first The Bigamist, which I have much to say about, and now House Of Numbers, which I've never seen.
-
COOL!
WNET - Channel 13 - here in NYC is currently running a couple of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts back to back tonight. Currently, Mozart's "The Magic Flute" is on. Ah.... Nathan Gunn. :)
-
I Tivo'd a few of the Slings and Arrows episodes from today's marathon, and I think I will watch a couple of them tonight for my late night viewing.
-
While Jose and MBarnum sing a chorus of "We both reached for the Gunn"...
-
FJL, the Usurper. One of the great sword and sandal epics.
-
I have only one thing to say: chipotle. Make of it what you will.
-
I did get a little sleepy after my steak and sweet potato dinner.
-
Callie and Boo would wish you a Happy New Year, but they are a little preoccupied
I should have called Callie and Boo!
-
And for my first Kritzerland duty this year, I have to ship an amazon order and an order to Bruce Yeko - the latter includes The Last Starfighter AND The Brain From Planet X.
-
This is my first cougar sighting since we have lived here. I know they are out there, as well as bears. So far I really haven’t minded not seeing them up close.
Gorgeous animals. But no, not too close!
-
Nice pics, all! Thanks for sharing them with us.
-
I began my evening tonight watching DIE HARD on Blu-ray. Looks better than any sDVD of the movie I've ever seen, but it's not reference quality HD stuff certainly. The newest one LIVE FREE AND DIE HARD certainly IS reference quality video and audio.
-
I finished my evening with MUSIC AND LYRICS BY JERRY HERMAN. I echo the praise of others who have already seen it. Remarkable footage and wonderful backstage stories from those involved who are still with us. (Surprised Bernadette Peters wasn't interviewed for MACK & MABEL.) And I was SO relieved it wasn't another revue type tribute to his songs like JERRY HERMAN AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL. It's entertaining, but we have that already. This was much more interesting to me.
-
And it played straight through with no station breaks or anything. I was kind of surprised this wasn't used for one of those pledge drive things. It's precisely the type of show they use to raise money.
-
Just finished watching Words and Music by Jerry Herman, which I quite enjoyed.
Now I have to accept the fact that tomorrow is a work day and try to get some sleep.
-
My neighbors' party was more interesting than I expected. It's a nice enough group of people--mostly neighbors--but so many people are attorneys and the conversation easily turns legal. Not being particularly legal-minded myself, I get a bit bored. Just as many legal minds present today--hosts are both attorneys--but I found it more entertaining than usual. I stayed longer than I expected as a result.
-
Must check into this Jerry Herman thing. Looks interesting.
-
Good night.
-
I would like to see a cougar. Through my binoculars.
-
Nice sunset photos from DR RLP and MR BK....lovely....
And nice kitty at attention photos from DR CILLA LIZ.
Wow, DR JANE - a cougar!!!
-
Did you say freerecorder.com?
I just watched Jerry Herman Words & Music, and enjoyed it very much. I think DR SINGDAW is correct that the "home" type movies were synched up to the OBC's.....but tons of fun.
-
It is 11 degrees here right now with a wind chill of -8 degrees!
Happy brrrrrrrrrrrrrr New Year.
-
Greetings everyone. Just popped in to say Happy New Year!
-
Greetings everyone. Just popped in to say Happy New Year!
And the very best to you also DR TPunk
-
Thanks!
-
I went to the movies today and saw The Savages - I quite enjoyed it.
-
Because I watched DIE HARD for fun tonight, I'll have to get back to review copies tomorrow. ROB & BIG will be continued.
-

Not so much anymore, the squirrel is used to them and they are used to the squirrel. My cat Nilla used to make them all the time. It's almost like a chirping noies.

I was trying for free verse.

Thanks Julie

I don't know if it's the same noise but my cats sometimes do what my roommate calls Chatter Jaw. It's like they get so excited they want to meow but also don't want to scare away their prey.l

The savages or the movie? ;)

Yup, I think that's the same thing
-
Beautiful sunset, BK
Great to see you here, TPunk. Hope you'll stop in more often in 2008
-
The next few days are going to be insane and I have a sore throat and a headache, so I better take some meds and get to bed. Night all
-
A friend of mine has a great shirt that says:
Haikus can be fun

That cracked me up!

Did you say freerecorder.com?
I just watched Jerry Herman Words & Music, and enjoyed it very much. I think DR SINGDAW is correct that the "home" type movies were synched up to the OBC's.....but tons of fun.
This very thing was discussed by one of those self-appointed experts in a review several weeks ago. ;D
-
and good to see you TPunk!!!
-
The savages or the movie? ;)
The movie ;)
The characters played by Laura Linney, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Phillip Bosco were not that enjoyable.
-
BK, I also have HOUSE OF NUMBERS on my DVR...I was trying to decide today whether to watch it or delete it...I will await your verdict.
-
Feel better Cillaliz.
Good to see you to MBarnum.
-
Mbarnum - I'm glad that you enjoyed your first Bollywood film of 2008.
-
Heading off to bed now.
Good night!
-
Pierre is entering his night crazies phase. We are playing fetch with his most favorite polar bear toy.
-
To bed for me. Good night all.
-
Hi TPunk, hope all is well.
-
You surper, how about a shave?
-
Now if you said you-supper, I'd understand that.
But how could I be a usurper if today's posting tally is better than other New Year's Days?
-
TPunk, it was so great seeing your smiling face on this page.
Don't be a stranger...PLEASE! Post with us.
-
And with that, I started page 16...the VERY FIRST ONE OF 2008!
-
To usurp man is a cookbook!
-
Jose - Skip says thanks for all the help in making dinner go smoothly today. Very nice of you and very much appreciated.
-
The "home movies" in the Jerry Herman production look/sound to me like they've been synched up to the OBC's.
It does. It just started and I was able to set my DVR before I left for the movie, so it's recording. I'm watching it right now! :D
-
Jose - Skip says thanks for all the help in making dinner go smoothly today. Very nice of you and very much appreciated.
You're very welcome. It was the least I could do for you and Toby and Dylan. :)
-
Wow, page 16, thats something to brag about.
-
I need a new avvie
-
i dont feel like making one right now.
-
Better than Gone Missing
Better than Unlock'd
Better than Boy in the Bathroom
Better than Yellow Wood
Better than In the Heights
Better than Million Dollar Quartet
Better than Mud Donahue & Son
Better than Bash'd
Better than Show Choir
Better than With Glee
Better than The Adding Machine
Better than Xanadu

That should've been a dozen separate posts.
-
Channel 9?
Yes! Are you watching it? Did you watch it??
-
That should've been a dozen separate posts.
But that would have been a dozen posts too many.
;)
-
The best musical. Ever.
-
DR Sandra loved DR TPunk's haiku.
-
I have been trying to save some key video clips from YouTube on my computer's hard drive.
It seems Actor's Equity has already had some that I had wanted to save removed!
Don't you hate it when that happens??
-
Usurper
I just met a guy named Usurper
Some call him FJL
He's smart just like the Krell
You see...
Now we'll see how many people ask what the Krell the Krell means.
-
Is this a haiku
I do wish someone would tell
If this is haiku
-
Can a lonely Jew
Come up with something clever
And call it haiku
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Well done, grasshopper.
-
Well, it's been a long day, and I probably should have been in bed an hour ago, so...
Goodnight.
-
And an only slightly viewed DVD will be on eBay soon. :)
Umm...JMK? Would you consider a private sale?? ;)
-

This is the kind of tribute/documentary that I love...and I'm certainly loving this (especially the La Cage section). It's told by the people who lived it, not the "experts" just talking about it.
-
When I came home after a wonderful meal, I had to nosh on some guacomole and chips. So here it is, 2 am and i've got heartburn. Oy!
I feel like I'm in one of the old Alka-Seltzer commercials with Alice Playten.
-
DR Matt H, Bernadette Peters may have missed being in the Jerry Herman video because of several reasons:
1. Her schedule wasn't free at the time
2. Se didn't want to be in it
3. Herman didn't want her in it
Since I really doubt 2 and 3, I suspect it was a scheduling conflict.
-
So, I'm sitting here, looking over one of my compositions, and thinking about expanding it into a piece for chorus, soloists, and orchestra.
-
Do it. Do it now. The time is nigh.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I will have no heartburn tonight, since I ate no spicy foods today.
-
I wonder if we shall achieve 500 postings?
-
No one can say we didn't get to page seventeen.
-
Gratuitous Post # 482. :)
