Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of old men and snoring, and now it is time for you to post until the old snoring cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FRIABLE!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to brettyspaghetti, wherever he may be.
-
Happy Birthday to (former?) BrettySpaghetti! He hasn't posted since April 24th of this year. I think someone else mentioned that his blog (http://brettyspaghetti.blogspot.com/) hasn't been updated since August 31. :-\
-
I hope he is well. :)
-
Another Day, Another Destiny: Broadway Revival of Les Miz Closes (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/113990.html).
-
Welcome ten GUESTS.
-
Today is also Bonnie Franklin's birthday. :)
-
Perhaps it is time for the bedroom environment.
-
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for DR Ron Pulliam on his lofty new posting milestone!! :)
-
DR Ginny beat me to it, but thanks to DR JoseSPiano for the update on E&T DR Jason. Glad he is well and looking forward to seeing him back here.
-
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to E&T DR BrettySpaghetti!!!
-
Thanks for the Groban clip, DR FJL!
-
I am glad that DR TCB is discovering the delights of Warlow!
-
Well, at least his singing, anyway.
-
Happy birthday to former dear reader BrettySpaghetti, if he's reading this, that is.
-
Good morning, all! I was up way too late reading MARTHA, INC., one tough lady. I occasionally watch the Martha Stewart Show and now I'm waiting for one of her Jekyll-Hyde turns. Since I'd just seen her holiday show on how her first book was published, it was strange reading an alternate reality account in MARTHA, INC.
I'm also into Pete Hamill's wonderful FOREVER, and I'm wondering what sort of litigation, if any, is going on behind camera with the upcoming tv series "New Amsterdam," which appears similar to Mr Hamill's novel about a man living forever on the island of Manhattan.
Today? Toyland for some reference checks on personnel with "The Lady of the Slipper," then a continuation of my current existence: the LoS notes and the IRS prep.
-
I am glad that DR TCB is discovering the delights of Warlow!
There are at least two commercial DVDs of Mr Warlow in performance that I recommend:
One, a Johann Strauss operetta, transferred from 1874 Vienna to 1930s Manhattan. The concept works rather well, and the translation and production are funny enough.
-
And t'other? Two works by Gilbert & Sullivan, the much-overrated HMS PINAFORE whose glorious score and lousy denouement work for others far better than for me, and TRIAL BY JURY, forty minutes of legal nonsense, casting couch success, opportunism and gold-digging of the highest order.
I wish Opera Australia in their production of FLEDERMAUS had used for their dialogue Sir WS Gilbert's translation of Meilhac's and Halevy's Reveillon, the play upon which FLEDERMAUS (or is it Fledermaus?) is based. It is veddy British, but funny.
-
Larry, the idea of someone living forever seems to have been around for a while. I remember a series called THE IMMORTAL many years ago.
Other than the idea of a person living forever, which basic idea must be in the public domain, are there any similarities anyone's heard of between the novel and TV series besides they're just happening to take place in Manhattan?
EDIT: THE WIKIPEDIA ENTRY ON THE TV SERIES DESCRIBES THE POSSIBLE ISSUE BETWEEN THE HAMILL BOOK AND THE TV SERIES.
(link doesn't seem to work, but google "Pete hamill" "new amsterdam")
-
DR FJL, the premise and set up are too close to a book written in 2002. I doubt the writer went any further back into literature (well, maybe Rip Van Winkle since the tv character is Dutch rather than Hamill's Irish one). Also, in most "immortal" literature the person's a vampire, and in both novel and tv premises the gift of immortality is a reward for saving someone.
Whether or not Pete Hamill wants to fight is his choice. I was only wondering if any sort of litigation was going on since the show was supposed to debut last fall and was then postponed. Perhaps it's being overhauled to remove more poins of similarity? And then there's this strike . . .
-
Larry, see the edit in my post above if you haven't seen it. Wikipedia discusses the issue, albeit briefly. Googling "pete hamill" "new amsterdam" will bring up stuff on the issue.
-

I did; I got the impression you were defeding the screenwriter and producers and I think they're all consciously ripping off Pete Hamill, claiming coincidence.
-
I'm not ducking and running, but I must get myself to Toyland before the puppet show. Perhaps they'll do "The Randy Vicar and the Fat Conductor of Limited Talent and Limitless Ego." One of the few puppet tragedies.
-
Oh, I had added the "edit" in caps to show that you were right that there is an issue out there in the world.
-
And the word of the day is: FRIABLE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I WANNA BE AROUND
-
Good morning!
COld this morning but warm this afternoon, and we're going to be up near 70 on Monday and Tuesday. Life in the South is amazing weather-wise.
-
I could have told you what TCM would say about SKIDOO.
I had the same predicament with THE YELLOW ROLLS ROYCE. When they showed it the first time I tried to record it, it was pan and scan. I immediately wrote them about it and the answer I received was that the P&S was what the distributor whom they license from sent them. That is wasn't their fault but the fault of the company supplying the prints. They assured me that they would try their utmost to get a proper correctly framed print for their next showing.
The next time they showed it, it was the correct Panavision version.
So writing does help and let's see what they present the next time SKIDOO comes up in the rotation.
-
I am looking forward to DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES this evening, and I guess I'll watch CASHMERE MAFIA just to sample it. Not sure I'll stay with it once it moves to its regular time period.
-
This afternoon I'll be watching OSWALD'S GHOST. I noticed in the press materials that the show will premiere on PBS on January 14th and then the DVD will be available on the 15th, similar to how PBS handled the Jerry Herman PBS program. (Why I didn't get a review copy of the Jerry Herman DVD is a continuing mystery).
-
Before DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES tonight, I'll likely watch one of my Blu-rays for fun. Which one will depend on how much time I have. I'd like to watch 2001, BLADE RUNNER, or THE WILD BUNCH all of which I have on Blu-ray, but how much time I have will determine which one I watch.
-
Page Two Harry, Ron, and Herminone Dance!!!!
-
I tried to watch SKIDOO as well....couldn't get much past 20 minutes, although noticing it was p/s - I don't see how letterbox could improve the performances or story....whew!
-
Watched GREAT TELEVISION SERIES last night on PBS. Nothing new offered, but some interesting photos and interviews. Andy Griffith is scary looking with some new plastic surgery.
They went from THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW to THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, and only in passing mentioned THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and its spin offs as shows where the people were laughed at, and not much worthy of discussion.
They talked about how the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW started with some very low ratings but then picked up and the show was a success. Never once did they mention that in its first season DVDS followed THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (the number one show on TV) and preceded the US STEEL HOUR.....it lost most of the HILLBILLIES audience.
For 1963, it still followed HILLBILLIES but was the lead in to THE DANNY KAYE SHOW, and so most of the audience of HILLBILLIES decided to stay tuned and wait for KAYE, and discovered that VAN DYKE was actually a great show.
Sad that they don't even acknowledge that the key to the show's survival at first was its time slot.
-
Wow Teddy Todd of the International Bank just sent me an email marked "Confidetail" and someone in Europe with my last name died in testate with no relatives and he wants to send me all of their money!!
Am I lucky or what?
-
Guess I'll head down now and get the laundry ready for washing. Then, I'll be looking for something to prepare for lunch.
WBBL.
-
Good morning, all! Our choir had an after-christmas party where I hors' d'ourve'd myself to death.
-
Please omit flowers.
-
DR JOSE you were probably the talk of the ride home for the family you spoke to.
Imagine how surprised they will be when you show up on the Tony Awards Broadcast.
-
TOD:
What show did you discover while waiting for another show to start?
The Dick Van Dyke Show for me.
-
I have a board meeting today and dinner at my cousin's house.....hope I make it home in time for TAR!!
-
For me it was DOCTOR WHO... I was watching ARE YOU BEING SERVED? on the local public telly stateion.... and the first doctor I saw was none other than Peter Davison who was on ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL earlier in the evening.
I really dont recall other shows at the moment so I will have to ponder it a bit.
-
I saw the ending of SWEENEY TODD - I enjoyed the movie....didn't like HBC as Mrs. Lovett, but it was just a different interpretation than I am used to.
I REALLY missed the way the stage show opens and closes.....although I know that a MOVIE is a different animal.
The last five minutes are pretty horrifying - although knowing the details of the fate of one character certainly puts a stamp on that! I just missed the wrap up of Toby - and the last moment....
BUT I enjoyed the movie very much.
-
Hopefully bk does not bump his when he gets up this morning...
-
Sunday

And the word of the day is: FRIABLE!
Poor Joe Biden. In his campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination, he would have been ABLER IF in the heat of the debates he hadn't been so FRIABLE.

Today is also Bonnie Franklin's birthday. :)
She never posts, she doesn't care. What is a mother to do?
-
Perhaps it is time for the bedroom environment.
Perhaps it is time for the bedroom environment to do what?
::)
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... WOW! Did I really sleep in until Noon?!?!?
-
DR JOSE you were probably the talk of the ride home for the family you spoke to.
Imagine how surprised they will be when you show up on the Tony Awards Broadcast.
;D
-
Good more-or-less morning, everyone! I also slept late, uncharacteristically. Late start, but so what? It's SUNDAY!
I'm doing laundry and some other household chores.
-
Since it is nice out today, I think I will toddle over to one of the coffee shops in this part of Fargo for a bit. I also need to get groceries....
-
Sometimes it is good to sleep late...
During the school term, I usually dont get up until around 9 or 10 am. Then again, I also work until midnight...
-
Qusasi TOD:
I discovered Dame Edna late one night on PBS. I think another show had just ended, rather than waiting for a show to start. But imagine my surprise! I was glued to the set, as they say.
-
...the idea of someone living forever seems to have been around for a while.
Torchwood, and Captain Jack, anyone?
I remember a series called THE IMMORTAL many years ago.
Ah, yes, Ben Richards (Christopher George, who looked great in a Playgirl (http://blackdogue.net/Playgirl/ChristopherGeorge/ChristopherGeorge.html) spread (do not click if easily offended)), the far more likely father of Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) in Heroes. Presuming characters outlive their respective television series, of course. ;D
-
In any case...
After getting out of bed, I turned on the TV and came across the aforementioned PBS series "Pioneers of Television" (http://www.pbs.org/pioneersoftelevision/?campaign=pbshomefeatures_3_pioneersoftelevision_2008-01-02) - Thank you, DR JRand.
And as DR JRand has mentioned - and as I've discovered after Googling some reviews - there is a lot of "good", but not so much "bad" presented. It's very nostalgic, if not necessarily real. However, they chose some great clips, and I look forward to the three remaining episodes in the series:
"Late Night"
"Variety" :)
"Game Shows"
-
I was glued to the set, as they say.
That can hurt! And they recommend not sitting too close when watching television, too!
;D
-
thanks, der B, for the PBS shop link last night (Jerry Herman documentary). I sometimes forget about the PBS Shop; I automatically go to Amazon. Netflix doesn't have it yet. They're sometimes a bit slow.
-
DR JOSE you were probably the talk of the ride home for the family you spoke to.
Imagine how surprised they will be when you show up on the Tony Awards Broadcast.
;)
I just really felt bad that it was a bit too late for them to head over to Jacques Torres for a back-to-back Hot Chocolate comparison. ;)
-
That can hurt! And they recommend not sitting too close when watching television, too!
;D
Quite right, Woody!
-

However, supporting PBS by buying it from PBS Shop is a worthy retail alternative.
-
I woke up almost every thirty minutes during sleep time. Why? Because, as with the night before, the rain started and stopped every thirty minutes like clockwork. It was very amusing if you're amused by that sort of thing.
-
The skies are gray out, but the rain seems to be on a break.
-
And, if you hadn't noticed, I'm up. I had a phone call early this morning, asking me to do another writer's workshop panel, but as a director. Frankly, I'd rather do it as a writer, but I'll probably say yes. It's in early Feb, just before the Hollywood Collector's Show, which I'll be doing.

Thanks, Jose. It is in my Amazon cart, but I'll give Netflix a few weeks to see if they get it in.
Re PBS: I used to be a huge fan, but my local PBS station, WETA, has had sooo many management blunders that I've really lost much of my affinity to them. Wonderful programming, yes. Totally incompetent station management, demonstrated over and over. When I moved to this area I was overjoyed with the wonderful programming. But that is now a thing of the past. I know that they've lost $$$ due to Federal cut-backs, but they've also alienated so many people here due to their incompetence. If I say--and I often do--that the station seems to be run by a handful of interns, well, that's not fair to the interns.
-
Spooky....
;D
Yes, spooky!
-
I have my projected Budget for 2008, my set design for ALL MY SONS, a brochure for the costume committee, and a smile, so I am off to the first Board Meeting of PCPH for 2008.
-
Thanks, Jose. It is in my Amazon cart, but I'll give Netflix a few weeks to see if they get it in.

Ah... Well, WETA was my PBS affiliate for a number of years too, and I totally agree with you in regards to their floundering lack of quality. I knew they were on the way down when they started taping the pledge breaks. Of course, they work the first time you broadcast the show, but the second, third... fifth... sixth... UGH! -Alas, PBS now tapes national broadcast pledge breaks for most of their programs.
Of course, what really did it for me was when the radio end of WETA went through their "all news" phase. Which ended up sooooo backfiring on them in regards to local support - figurative and financial(!).
...And funny how they moved out of that "shack" on Four Mile Run Drive, and into a brand new headquarters for them in Shirlington a couple of years ago... I guess they must have been receiving some pledges then. :-\
*Although, I have to admit that the rather luxurious HQs of PBS and NPR in downtown DC also "puzzle" me.
-
DR Jeanne - And just what is Robert Aubrey Davis up to nowadays? ;)
*I still remember his off-the-cuff comment about "walking funny" after he had seen Kevin Costner in "Dances with Wolves". The pregnant pause from the rest of the panel was priceless!

I ordered mine from CD Universe.
I'm back from Toyland. No puppet show but I did get some research accomplished concerning "Lady of the Slipper" cast credits.

Another Day, Another Destiny: Broadway Revival of Les Miz Closes (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/113990.html).
There are a slew of closings today:
Les Miserables
Cyrano de Bergerac - The Kevin Kline, Jennifer Garner revival
Cymbeline
The Glorious Ones
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical
Plus, it's Fantasia's last day in The Color Purple.
*And last Sunday saw the closing of The Drowsy Chaperone, with Spelling Bee the next one up to close in a few weeks.
-
DR JRand - Did you sit through the whole movie, or just sneak in for the last 15 minutes (after seeing another feature)? ;)
-
Well, I need to get ready to head out. I'm meeting up with a friend who shocked me last night with some, well, rather shocking news. Unfortunately, it's one of those situations where he has to be the one to make the decision to move on - and to actually do it - while I'm on the sideline feeling sort of helpless. -It's "so Oprah" for lack of a better way to describe it. In any case, he wants to talk about it, so I guess that's a good sign. So...
Laters...

I don't wish to put PBS in the same category of the United Way, BUT I remember when many of us supported the United Way, only to be SHOCKED--shocked, I tell you--to learn of their trips to the caribbean, etc some years ago.
Ironically, much of WETA's problems don't require money to fix. They do require some common sense and courtesy, both sadly lacking.
-
DR Jeanne - And just what is Robert Aubrey Davis up to nowadays? ;)
*I still remember his off-the-cuff comment about "walking funny" after he had seen Kevin Costner in "Dances with Wolves". The pregnant pause from the rest of the panel was priceless!
Robert Aubrey Davis is, IMO, one of the gems of WETA. I ran into him on the street one day in Shirlington and wanted to throw my arms around him and tell him how wonderful he is. I didn't; somehow that didn't seem like a suitable introduction. Around Town was reduced to a 3-minute blurb just before the News Hour, which, despite the brevity, actually works fairly well. Sometimes RAD hosts it, sometimes not. I don't know what else he's doing these days. I listen to NPR every morning; if he's around at all I'm not aware of it. I haven't checked the website, though.
(I do know Terry Smith, former media correspondent for the News Hour. Funnily, I ran into him at Penn Station last Sept in NY, but didn't have time to chat. Our paths cross from time to time. Next time I see him I may ask him about RAD and other WETA insights in general.)
-
I ordered mine from CD Universe.
Duly noted.

Before I get ready for work, just a note for anyone out there who prefers non-fiction television:
Iron Chef America has three episodes tonight: Morimoto vs. Wolfgang Puck, Flay vs. Ming Tsai, and Batali vs. Jamie Oliver. The fun starts at 8 pm.

Ah, DR elmore3003...you make me laugh and laugh!
And you also happen to be right on the money!
-
I was listening to my "Sondheim at the Movies" CD today, produced by our own bk, and with glorious orchestrations by our own DR elmore3003.
DR elmore, curious about what you had to work from on the "Evening Primrose" material. Did you get a piano/vocal chart of the songs, or did you get more than that to work with?
-
DR singdaw - YEAH! There was a camera!
:)

I love games! Is this "Find the straight man in this photo?"
Is "D: None of the above." a choice?

DRsingshaw, it's a nice photo, actually.
Do you all know what the world needs? I'll tell you. It's a good book revealing accurately the sexual peccadilloes of the American Theatre in the first half of the 20th Century. Like Henry Willson's clients, in which the person telling the story tells about all the actors having sex for representation with Henry but never the narrator of the tale, I'm finding that researching all of these folk from the early 20th Century performing arts is a maze of lies and concealment. One would gather from several of Ruth Gordon's books that the casting couch was rife in 1917 (PG Wodehouse and Guy Bolton claim that young ladies get minks the way minks get minks), and there are lots of stories about producers, agents, and actresses. There was clearly, from the newspaper articles, a lot of whoredom going on amongst the BABES IN TOYLAND company.
I've heard rumors that David Montgomery of Montgomery & Stone, Elsie Janis, Maude Adams, Charles Frohman, and over half the peple I'm researching were gay but it's all so covert. I believe Eva LeGallienne was the first "outed" lesbian and that's because her lover's husband accused Eva in the divorce of stealing Josephine Hutchinson from him. Elsie Janis' mother ran about with Bessie Marbury, producer with Ray Comstock of the Princess Theatre, and other lesbians, according to the book "Passing Performances" but, even in such a covert period, there's got to be more info on backstage and casting sexual politics in early 20th Century American Theatre. God knows there's certainly enough about the film industry.
-
I love games! Is this "Find the straight man in this photo?"
D.) None of the above
-
DR elmore, curious about what you had to work from on the "Evening Primrose" material. Did you get a piano/vocal chart of the songs, or did you get more than that to work with?
I had Mathilde Pincus' copies of "Take Me To The World" and "I Remember" that I'd picked up from her office around 1982, and my memory is that I was given by Todd Ellison 8x11 reductions of Mathilde's copies of the other two numbers.

My apologies, Jose, I didn't finish reading the posts

TCB,
I went over to the website you mentioned the other day, achevlabs.com. Their products are based on Human Growth Hormone. Although there are many proponents of such products, there was also enough negatives in my reading to cause me to choose NOT to try it.
If you are looking for help with arthritis, I would suggest Lyprinol, which is an extract of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel--I'm not joking!--in capsule form. (There's also a spray version.) Two of my sources recommend it, I've tried in personally, and I'm a believer, although I used it to heal the lining of my gut. Also good for arthritis is glucosamine sulfate, which I was very happy with.
I've probably mentioned this before, but an great source of information about pain remedies is Sherry Rogers, MD's PAIN-FREE IN 6 WEEKS. She mentions many, many options, including Lyprinol and GS.
-
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for DR Ron Pulliam on his lofty new posting milestone!! :)

And THEN SOME, I suspect. We know what hits the print and we know what others tell us on the sly....but I have to believe that's not even half the WHOLE truth.
-
I, potentially, have jury duty tomorrow. I have to call (or go online) tonight after 5 p.m. for further instructions (will I or won't I have to report to the courthouse, for instance).
I had to cancel a followup visit to my endodontist for this. Have rescheduled that fun for Jan. 15, assuming I'm not in a trial of some kind.
-
It's lunch time...and I feel as though I've just gotten out of bed. Not true, though. I got up two hours ago! And I've been online visiting here, there and everywhere all that time.
What to eat? What to eat? What to eat?
I had spaghetti yesterday afternoon...so....maybe I'll do some stew today.
-
I'll never make it to 10,000 at this rate.
-
I should probably let 10,000 happen naturally.
-
I mean, if it doesn't happen today, it'll happen soon.
-
It's gotta happen (a Liza reference)
-
If I recall correctly, we had to put endings on a couple of the Evening Primrose songs - for sure I know Todd and I came up with one for the opening number, as it doesn't really end in the TV show.
-
Will we never get to page five?
-
I've done two pages so far, and I'm sure I'll do at least two more by this evening. By tomorrow, I should be to page fifty, where I'll stop and give whatever I have to my muse Margaret.
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshiswaycom? Will I achieve 34,000 postings today?
-
I hear a dog barking incessantly - it doesn't help my concentration.
-
And might I just ask where in tarnation is Jane? I find these days-long absences troubling.
-
It's still very gray out, but no rain.
-
I got the laundry washed, dried, and folded. When I got back down, I'll put it away and will also be cleaning the master bathroom.
-
I watched two BONES episodes while I was cooking and eating lunch.
The first was the introduction of Ryan O'Neal as her father. This was also the episode where research assistant Zach Addy became Dr. Zach Addy and was hired by the Jeffersonian as a full-time forensic anthropologist. An excellent episode.
-
The second was the season's second episode dealing with serial killer Howard Epps who found a way to escape from prison and went on the hunt for Brennan's friends. A very scary and tension-filled episode.
-
No news is good news, I always say.
-
Then I watched OSWALD'S GHOST. Rather than trying to solve the riddle of the Kennedy Assassination, it rather presented all the various "major players" from Oswald and Ruby through the Warren Commission, Oswald's mother, the beginnings of the various conspiracy theories starting with Mark Lane and his best seller and going on through Jim Garrison's theory leaps, Norman Mailer's about face after a lifetime of riminating about it, etc.
All the information is there, but I don't think bridging sequences that go from one theory to the next are as strong or as smooth as they should have been. At some points, the jumps just seem jarring.
-
There are three bonus features on the disc. The first called "A Visit to Dealey Plaza" present two different men offering conspiracy theories. Amazing how convincing they can be persuing their own lines of inquiry.
-
TCB,
I went over to the website you mentioned the other day, achevlabs.com.
Thanks, Jeanne.
-
The second (and best) is a 22 minute featurette called "The Zapruder Film and Beyond" which gives a history of the film and its various owners but is really more about derailing the various conspiracy theories that have come to prominence in the last 40 years.
-
And the third feature is an interview with the director of the film in which he comments on how he put the movie together and his viewpoints on the entire assassination question.

Right now I haven't decided which movie I'll be watching on Blu-ray when I go back downswtairs. The time available will be the sole determining factor since I want to see BLADE RUNNER, 2001, and THE WILD BUNCH equally as much on Blu-ray disc.

Sunday evening greetings! DH Richard and I just got home after church in Cincinnati and lunch at my aunt's home. Her son and his fiance are visiting from Georgia and they prepared tuna burgers, etc.
One Christmas photo to share - this is what I call a "decades" shot of my niece (who's in her 40's), me (50's), my sister (60's), my aunt (Mom's sister, 70's) and my mother (80's). The decades will get out of sync on Thanksgiving Day when my mother turns 90 and won't line up this way again until my niece turns 50 in 2013.
-
Lovely Christmas photos, Ginny and singdaw. Makes me sad that we sort-of have to clear away the ornament tree soon.
-
Thanks, DR FJL. Yes, the post holiday always leaves me feeling a bit melancholic.
-
It's raining here too. I'm sure Bruce has many pearls to share, but it's not raining pearls. And the stripper next door is out of town and still has her stereo turned up too loudly. If life were like the "Roadhog" segment of "If I Had Million" (is that the name of it?), I'd get a car and plow right through her apartment. But I've plowed enough cars lately. Maybe I could hire someone to plow a car through her apartment for me. Any takers?
This is the woman who keeps her stereo on as her friend 24 hours a day and because she lives alone and doesn't want anyone to think she's alone. However she is the same woman who answers the door naked while not knowing who is on the other side of the door. Go figure. What is this, fish?
-
I'm not ducking and running, but I must get myself to Toyland before the puppet show. Perhaps they'll do "The Randy Vicar and the Fat Conductor of Limited Talent and Limitless Ego." One of the few puppet tragedies.
HA Ha HA Ha! That makes up for the stripper!

Nice photo singdaw!

The skies are gray out, but the rain seems to be on a break.
That's because it's over here in Phoenix.

Wow Teddy Todd of the International Bank just sent me an email marked "Confidetail" and someone in Europe with my last name died in testate with no relatives and he wants to send me all of their money!!

That's a neat picture, Ginny! When my niece was born, they were able to get a picture of five generations...my niece, her mother (my sister) and her aunt (father's sister), father's (and aunt's) mother, grandmother and great-grandmother!

From Dictionary.com:
Frankincense: an aromatic gum resin from various Asian and African trees of the genus Boswellia, esp. B. carteri, used chiefly for burning as incense in religious or ceremonial practices, in perfumery, and in pharmaceutical and fumigating preparations.

I watched a motion picture on HD DVD this afternoon.
It is called "Eastern Promises", directed by David Cronenberg.
This movie is a tale of Russian mafia in London and two people who get caught up in it when a young girl dies in childbirth and leaves behind a diary that tells how she was raped by a prominent Russian mafioso. Viggo Mortensen stars as a truly rough, unpleasant man who works for a buisnessman (Armin Mueller-Stahl). Viggo is also intriguing and sexy in a brutish sort of way and, naturally, attracts the young midwife, played by Naomi Watts, who delivered the dead girl's baby and found the diary and learns who sired the baby from it. Meanwhile, the son of the businessman, played by Vincent Cassel, becomes the key to many unpleasant things that have happened and will happen.
There is much blood and visual gore in some scenes. There is also a bathhouse scene where Viggo must fight two men who have mistaken him for his boss' son...and Viggo does this in the nude with "little Viggo and his pals" showing him up a few times. Anyone watches this and says he or she never looked at/saw little Viggo, he or she will be lying. :)
Everyone is first-rate in the film, IMO, and it's extraordinarily sharp in high definition.
This was a good movie. It doesn't have a wasted moment. The score by Howard Shore is a major asset.

speaking of tearjerkers, I just watched the second 2 hours of the BBC adaptation of JANE EYRE on Masterpiece Theatre. The only person in the cast I recognized was Maggie Smith's son Toby as Mr Rochester, but I loved the actress playing Jane. I've never read the novel, but I've seen at least two other versions - Orson Wells, George C Scott - and I don't ever recall Jane's finding she has cousins after her uncle's death. Usually they tie up the plot after the aborted wedding and the madwoman in the attic as quickly as possible. What a weepy ending. I loved it.
And then, the previews for the Jane Austen festival beginning next week with the new adaptation of PERSUASION. Yay!

Thanks for the information about the film. I loved their last collaboration - A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE which I thought was one of the best films of its year and underrated. I will definitely want to see this at some point.
-
singdaw - I think you meant Babs, not Barbs. (Or is Barbs Barbara Cook?)
-
I read JANE EYRE in 10th grade. I enjoyed it at the time, but I have next to no memory of it. When I saw the Fox film version a year or so ago, I only knew the major plot points and none of the details.
-
Well, darn, my copy of RANG DE BASANTI was very, very strange. I don't recall where I bought it, but I think it might have been a pirated copy....I have learned my lesson well with that, believe me (they used to be all over Ebay...you think you are getting a really good price, but the quality is very, very bad :-\ )
Oh, well...I added it to my Netflix queue.
-
So instead of a Bollywood movie (not that I don't have some others I can watch...it was just that I couldn't seem to choose one that fit my mood) I will watch one of my Christmas presents from DR Elmore3003...PIGSKIN PARADE! ;D
-
I lied.
Instead of watching 2001 or BLADE RUNNER or THE WILD BUNCH, I saw the Blu-ray of THE TERMINATOR in the stack and chose that instead.
As a high definition disc, I thought it looked better than TERMINATOR 2 on Blu-ray (which I found to be one of the most disappointing HD transfers I have in my collection.) Michael Biehn was so very beautiful in this movie.
The MGM transfer had an uncompressed 5.1 soundtrack which was astounding for a film that was released to theaters with a mono soundtrack.
-
So instead of a Bollywood movie (not that I don't have some others I can watch...it was just that I couldn't seem to choose one that fit my mood) I will watch one of my Christmas presents from DR Elmore3003...PIGSKIN PARADE! ;D
Quite a fun movie, and Judy Garland in her earliest feature film shows that astounding voice of hers to great effect.
-
After THE TERMINATOR, I watched another BONES episode. This is the one that Fox will be showing on Friday this week - with the body discovered at a church cemetery. Pretty good mystery, but season two had better stories. I did love the interaction with Stephen Frye in another featured appearance as Booth's psychiatrist.
-
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES had some good moments, but if this indeed turns out to be the season finale, there were some great cliffhangers.
-
CASHMERE MAFIA was a toss-up for me. I didn't care for some of the women, and the music, stories, etc. were really in the same obvious vein as SEX AND THE CITY (Darren Star as exec producer saw to that). Problem is, I didn't find any of the women a tenth as interesting as the four women in SEX AND THE CITY.
-
Oh, and to get to DR Jennifer's question regarding THE AMAZING RACE.....
For the record, I loved Kynt and Vixen, and was sorry to see them leave last week. They played very strong and very well, plus I just liked them.
TK and Rachel are the most level headed of the remaining teams and are now my #1s to win. They keep calm, which is very smart thing to do in a a game like this.
Nathan and Jennifer have long been on the bottom of my list. Jennifer gives up too easily, every time something does not go her way. And they simply are not playing as a team...there is no teamwork there.
Ronald and Christina: They would be a good, strong team if Ronald would back off and let his daughter do things. His constant criticism is very a bad for their game...but Rama bless her, Christina puts up with it and keeps on going. She is very impressive, and if that was not her dad she would probably have pushed him over a cliff by now.
Nicolas and Donald: Eh. :P
I do miss Lorena and Jason, they had been my other favorites.
As for which teams are competitive, they are all very competitive...or they would not even be there. Youth and physical strength are not the only way to make a good team and win, calmness, stamina, creativness, and working well with others are all essential in this kind of a game.
and I actually do have to give it to Donald...for a 70 year old guy..well, he is better then a lot of them youngins.

It finally started raining about two hours ago. I had TIVOd a movie and so I watched that. I now have to read the latest version of act one of the musical I'm mentoring, to make sure all the changes I asked for have been made.
-
Heading downstairs to bed now. Hooray! No writing to do tonight.
Good night!
-
Tonight, following DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, I watched the CBS television version of APPLAUSE featuring Lauren Bacall.
Was that really Larry Hagman's singing voice, or was he dubbed?
Penny Fuller was tremendous.
Bonnie Franklin and Lee Roy Reams were absent, but, Harvey Evans was cute as a button in the Reams role.
Lauren Bacall WAS Margot. Brilliantly.

Leslie Kritzner is PATTI LUPONE LIVE AT LES MOUCHES
as well as (finally) cds of:
CARRIE (with Miss Buckley)
SMILE
I've only listened to SONG & DANCE, so far. . .Betty Lynne is amazing.
-
I am still here was reading something
-
Hiya, BK!
-
Organizing some papers....
-
I am not a wussbuger. At least not yet.
-
Organizing some papers....
I thought you were reading MOBY DICK.
-
Carrie must be the flavour of January. My DVD of the London show arrived, unexpectedly, on Friday.
-
Listening to the American Idol rewind...
they are broadcasting the singers who did not make it.... Oh man, some of them are painful to listen to.... OUCH!
-
I'm having a listening to Matt Monro day.
-
One was SOOOOOO bad I am still cinging from him...
-
I just want this show to be over with....
-
I know I cant sing anymore due to my hearing loss and I know better than to even attempt but I know my timing is better than some of the so-called singers that were trying out ....
-
At least some of us not even to try DR Dakota. (I'll stick to singing in the shower).
-
I'm so way out of popular music culture - I was introduced to the songs of Lily Allen today. I smiled a lot.
-
Oddly with my hearing loss, I can hum and whistle on key and pitch....
-
I have not one thing to eat in this house. I must go out tomorrow and get some cans of soup and little things to nosh on, should I be hungry.
-
Will we never get to page eleven?
-
I wouldn't know if my pitch was any where near the mark. My Baseball would be just as bad!
I had to sight read (sing) for a music exam when I was about 16. I received marks for naming the notes correctly - not for singing any of them.
-
...I received marks for naming the notes correctly...
How did you tell the boy notes from the girl notes?

I'm having a listening to Matt Monro day.
That would make for a good day!!
-
My but that was a darn good episode of DESP HOUSEWIVES.....and TAR...they went to Osaka, Japan on this leg of the race...makes me so much want to go to Japan again for a vacation!
Some day!!
-
Listening to CDs and relaxing.
-
Didn't get to PIGSKIN PARADE, but maybe I will when my buddy James and I watch DREAM GIRLS (which I forgot to take with me last week when we were supposed to watch it at his house)...we can have a double feature.
-
Is that similar to relaxing and listening to CDs?
-

Good Evening, once again.
-Or Good Early Morning for the other DR on the East Coast.
-And a hearty Good Afternoon to our DR Down Under, Tomovoz.
-
Hello DR Jose.
-
on the Matt Cd playing at the moment is the David & Bacharach song (1961) "Everything Is Nothing Without You"
-
Woofs from Magnus to DR Jose. He is settling down somewhat.
-
While walking around today, there was man out on 34th Street with a table full of DVDs, some new, some used. "Any 2 Discs, $10". -The single price was $7.00. Well, most of the titles were direct-to-videos, or should-have-been-direct-to-videos. However, he also had a few boxed sets. Among that selection were the multi-disc editions of the "Lord of the Rings" movies - which he was selling for $15 each, and some of the John Ford Collection boxes - also for $15 each (for 5 movies!). -And they were still in their shrink-wrap, and some had cut-out stickers on them from Border's too. Hmm...
I guess he could tell that I was looking at them a bit "suspiciously", because he eventually spoke up, "Those are the real deal. I have a friend who always gets extra review and promotional copies." Hmm... I may have to check his selection next week.
Any DR need to fill out their John Ford movie collection? ;)
-
Woof-woof, right back at ya, Magnus.
-
Hmm... Maybe I'll see Teri Ralston (with special guest Pamela Myers) at The Metropolitan Room tonight (Monday). Hmm...
-
Today, I watched two episodes of "Reaper" and enjoyed them. I have five left to view. Right now, I'm watching "Cashmere Mafia" and I sort of enjoy it, but I don't think it'll be a regular view for me. I never watched "Sex and the City."
-
Didn't get to PIGSKIN PARADE, but maybe I will when my buddy James and I watch DREAM GIRLS (which I forgot to take with me last week when we were supposed to watch it at his house)...we can have a double feature.
So what did you watch instead last week? Gladiator movies?
-
...And it's "Dreamgirls", not "Dream Girls". ;)
-
DR td - That's a lot of Betty. ;)
-
...And it's "Dreamgirls", not "Dream Girls". ;)
Is that so Mr. Smarty Pants. Well, how do you know it wasn't this movie that I was referring to!

Is that so Mr. Smarty Pants. Well, how do you know it wasn't this movie that I was referring to!
Remember... It was your neighbor's husband you had that sordid dream(s) of a few weeks ago. Not your neighbor. I suspect if you dreamed of a "Big Busted Dream Girl", it was more like a nightmare.
-
By the way, DR MBarnum - Did Santa bring you a nice pair of binoculars for Christmas?
;)
-
:o NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C'mon George, you know a Cannibal would love that roasting on a spit!
der Brucer
-
And on that note - a high D(-cup)...
Goodnight.
-
:o NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then why did you quote the picture too in your response?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
;D

Does silicone roast well?
-
Then why did you quote the picture too in your response?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
;D
It's more effective that way. :)
-
Well, I hate to do this (no really, I do!), but I'm turning in. I want to get to work early and I need to get to bed early.
Goodnight, all!
-
Did Inot even notice I had reached a milestone? Were I only as wordsome as Ron? I could be kintg of the forest by now! You notice Idid not say "verbose." ;)
"Wordsome" is fine, DR Kerry.
You had a "Get out of Snark" pass, and now you've used it.
After this, you're fair game!
;D
-
So instead of a Bollywood movie (not that I don't have some others I can watch...it was just that I couldn't seem to choose one that fit my mood) I will watch one of my Christmas presents from DR Elmore3003...PIGSKIN PARADE! ;D
"I kin sang...ya wanna hear me?"
:D

Where does one find a copy of this wonder?

I am sorry I was not here during the past two pages of posts to defend myself. :)
But there has been dirty work afoot, most assuredly.
Oh, the barbs!
Oh, go find that Burger King icon and give him back his crown and doublet.
-
MY EYES!!!
:P
ROTFL
-
The weekend was fun.
And now the work week looms.
I feel it like a vise on my soul.
-
Oh, look what I did. I went and started

And with that, I bid you all adieu.
G'night.
