Well, you've read the notes, the notes were raging and a headache, and now it is time for you to post until the raging cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CANOROUS!
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I gotta tell you.

Maybe Sherlock should go to college:

Nobody here but us chickens.
-
I think I might be ready for bed.
-
And I think bed might be ready for me.
-
But I'll be up bright and early.
-
BK, I've been trying to think of a question to ask, but I can't think of anything. :-\ So, I'm going to go to sleep. Good night. :)
-
And good night to all the guests. 8)
-
And I'll have all my spiffy new LP transfers to listen to - which is the fun part after all the work. I haven't heard these LPs in years, if ever, and I don't really listen while they're going into the computer, so the listening experience is nice and fresh. And most of them sound very good.
-
Well, I shall now toddle off to the bedroom environment.
-
Welcome six GUESTS.
-
Yes, to sleep, perchance to dream.
-
Make that seven GUESTS.
-
Make that six GUESTS. People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.
-
But before I go (speaking of transfering LPs), I won this from eBay and it just arrived in the mail yesterday (and it looks like it's in great condition!):
(http://i24.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/b4/47/757c_1_sbl.JPG)
I'm going to take it to work today to scan the cover (we have a photocopier that's also a scanner!) and then print it at home (which we're not allowed to do at work). Then, I'll record it to my computer to make a CD from it. I don't have the ION turntable, just a regular record player that's hooked up to my computer with RCA cables. My sister's boyfriend built my computer and installed a .wav file recorder that I've learned how to use. :)
-
DR dB - did you check out the Amazon reviews (http://www.amazon.com/JL421-Badonkadonk-Land-Cruiser-Tank/dp/B00067F1CE/)? They're pretty funny... :)

And the word of the day is: CANOROUS!
Henri loved to go to the Moulin Rouge because he found the can-can CANOROUS.
-
I am up way too early.
I am up way too early because I'm scheduled to start work at six in the felixin' morning today.
Oh, what a felixin' morning,
Oh, what a felixin' day.
I've got a felixin' feeling -
Stay out of my felixin' way
(On a musical stage, this won't play).
That just about sums it up.

For LOST (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/30/arts/television/30lost.html?_r=1&oref=slogin) fans...

Hmm...
I wonder if there are any hapless theatregoers heading to BAM to see this:

But actually expecting to see this:

Won't they be surprised! 8)
-
good morning
what LPs did you transfer Mr BK?
-
Morning Tom
-
I'm seeing Sunday in the Park this evening. I saw that tickets were available on TDF for Next to Normal but they were for today so I won't be seeing it (at least not yet).
-
In other news, the old computer is up and running and everything seems good. I got my credits for the returned goods I sent to Gateway and since everything seems to be OK I went ahead and ordered the new computer.
According to tracking it should be delivered sometime today! Since I'll be going to the theatre tonight I won't be setting it up until tomorrow.
It's a Dell with Windows XP. I've just heard too many bad stories about Vista so I decided to stay with XP (Service Pack 2). We have many programs that do not work with Vista. I know this because friends use the same programs and they bought a new computer with Vista pre-installed and all the old programs don't work and there are no patches available. Their printer and scanner also don't work with Vista and the patches don't work!
Once I get the new system up and running we will take the old one out to Long Island and set it up for Anthony's mother.
-
Vixmom, could you send me a PM or an e-mail with the amount I owe for the cookies and I'll send you a check. I know I ordered 3 boxes but I forget how much they cost (Oy, I'm getting old).
-
Since we're so close
-
Only one more (after this)

Welcome to Page 2

Good morning, Ben.
-
Good morning, coleslaw.

Top o' the morning to two cheery HHW morning denizens...DRs TCB and Ben!

Great news about the new [and the old] computer, DR Ben! :D

I will console myself with reading the menu of offerings that he brought back.

I guess I am out of the loop lately, but where did this Tom Cruise (Scientology) interview originate? Was it from a TV news magazine, or one of the nightly entertainment programs, or somewhere else?
-
We finished out assortment of Graeter's ice cream from the holidays. Probably won't order more TOO soon, it was so good that it was addictive.
-
it was addictive
Which could be a problem for someone suffering from OCD.

Yes IT did - and boy was IT mad when IT got here.
-
Fred, when are you seeing Applause? I hope to see the final dress. A friend who works for NYU always gets tickets for that night. I'm waiting to hear from him about whether he has them for Applause.
-
Off to do some Wednesday things for some people. Lots of wind and rain last night and now it's 19 degrees.....snow tomorrow they say.
-
DR TCB: (http://www.3dfilmfest.com/images/films/It_Came_From_Outer_Space.jpg)
No, slingblade, I know where Tom Cruise came from, I was asking about the interview.

And The Song Of The Day Is: MEADOWLARK
-
Ben - I know I'm seeing it on the Sunday night. But hoping some decent tickets come up for another perf as well.
-
Yes, you'll want to Hurry Back with Good Friends to another performance.

Hey, singdaw, you're a gas! Tanks!

I have that TV soundtrack (the cover of mine looks a little different, I believe). I MUCH prefer it to the Jack Carson Broadway recording of the early 1950s even though the TV version changed the show and altered the songs to fit the performers on that special.
-
Good morning!
We had a steady rain last night once I got in bed, and it lulled me to sleep. Today looks absolutely gorgeous but according to the forecast, it's not getting out of the 40s today. (It must have been near-70 yesterday).
-
The Blu-ray disc of CRIMSON TIDE arrived earlier this morning from Disney, so that's how I'll be spending my afternoon once I've finished with lunch.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - Season 3 will have to wait until either later this evening or tomorrow.
-
TV Reminder:
A new LAW & ORDER is on tonight (maybe the episode that was postponed from last week?)
Of course, new reality show episodes of AMERICAN IDOL and MOMENT OF TRUTH, but I don't watch those.
CBS is also showing two rerun episodes of OLD CHRISTINE tonight in anticipation of the show's return next Monday night.
-
How exciting that those two Lana Turner melodramas (MADAME X/PORTRAIT IN BLACK) and the three TAMMY movies (Reynolds/Dee) come out next week in very reasonably priced (see Deep Discount's pricing) sets. Can't wait!
(Wonder when I'll find time to watch any of them?)
-
BK, maybe I missed your answer, but I asked a pre-Ask BK day Ask BK question yesterday. I'm curious if you (or maybe Nick Redman) knows if there is any diff between the new SAE/Intrada "Mary Queen of Scots" and the import Artemis CD of the soundtrack several years ago.
MattH--one of the Tammy movies (I think "& the Doctor", but it might be "tell me true") has one of Percy Faith's few original scores for film.
-
DR JMK - see post #287, page 10, last night.
-
DR Singingnymph - lovely beach photos! :)

I stumbled across something interesting as I was researching Oscar and Golden Globe information for THE APARTMENT.
In 1960, the Hollywood Foreign Press gave Golden Globes in the category of Most Promising Newcomer (Male and Female). They had done this for years and would continue to do it for years to come.
At any rate, in 1960, there were six male nominees and three winners declared. Here's who won:
Michael Callan
Mark Damon
Brett Halsey
Now, look at the names of the three men who lost that year to these three "more promising" newcomers:
Peter Falk
David Janssen
Robert Vaughn

What a nice way to start the morning!
-
Guess I'll head downstairs now to check the USPS mail (the CRIMSON TIDE Blu-ray came via UPS), and then start on lunch preparation.
WBBL.
-
Wednesday morning (just got that in under the wire!) greetings! My workday started with a long meeting, but it was at Panera where I had a nice bear claw and coffee. I am now about to eat the lunch I brought back from there before an afternoon full of coaching University of Dayton students on the grantseeking database.
-
JMK - as noted, I answered your question in last night's posts.
-
As noted, I'm up.
-
As noted, I shall now look at what I wrote yesterday, do whatever needs to be done and then print the pages.
-
As noted, I must first de-groggify.
-
As noted, will we never get to page four?
-
Maybe Sherlock should go to college:
Jan. 29: Showers of heavy, wet snow falls on the Southern Oregon University campus in Ashland, Ore.
Why, when we have so much more snow at our house (higher elevation). ;D
Often we get snow when Ashland doesn't, not this time. And more is expected.
-
STRESS!!!!! Some stupid frigging delivery truck drove by our house a few minutes ago and was too tall for the street and ripped one of our phone lines right out of the house. I wasn't sure if it was phone or electric, so I called 911 and the Fire Department came and confirmed it was phone and got the line out from the street and coiled it in my driveway. But now the phone company (and the electric company, since the phone line was looped on the electric line) need to come. And of course the truck just kept on a goin' even though I sure he knew what he had done (it made a hellacious noise), so I bet I get stuck with the repair bills.
-
Singingnymph, it is nice to see the ocean & a world without snow.
-
JMK, speedy repairs, without a bill, vibes!

I’m anxiously waiting for BIG news from L.A……If my nephew is a father yet, and if all is well. They wanted the sex of the baby to be a surprise, adding to the anticipation.
-
Good morning, all! I had a lousy time reading yesterday's poasts; my computer froze on page 7 and would not continue and then I was bounced oof of today with the "too many connections" whine.
Another day as usual fighting the pests. The landlord yesterday finally posted - although it was dated Jan 18 - an alert and their intention to support us though this bedbug crisis. Too late, in my book.
I've heard from our DR MBarnum yesterday. He;s taking a break for the nonce helping a family relocation situation in Salem.
That ismy news.
-
Yikes, DR JMK! At least you can still use the computer!
-
I’m anxiously waiting for BIG news from L.A……If my nephew is a father yet, and if all is well. They wanted the sex of the baby to be a surprise, adding to the anticipation.
DR Jane - will this make you a great-aunt for the first time? Hope you get the news soon.
-
DR Elmore:
{{{{{Hugs}}}}}
And thanks for the update on DR MBarnum.
-
Yes, & thank you Ginny. We were all beginning to worry there would never be a next generation in our family. This is very exciting & I admit to being very nervous today.
-
DR elmore, I constantly think of what you are dealing with & how exhausted you must be.
{{{{{Hugs}}}}} from me too.
Thank you for the MBarnum news.
-
Does JMK actually READ the posts? Has he seen the response to his question?
-
Pages are printing.
-
bk, you are duly noted. :)
As noted.
-
{{{{{DR elmore3003}}}}}
***GOOD NEWS VIBES*** for DR Jane. [ I guess DD Sherlock doesn't count as "next generation" ;) ]
Sorry about that unfortunate incident, DR JMK. Too bad you couldn't chase the truck down in your car to get the licence plate # for some accountability.
-
My ASK BK question:
Have you ever finished writing anything so quickly? That gazelle is doing overtime laps!!
-
Thank you Singdaw.
Sherlock is in the same generation as my nephew ;)
-
I went home for lunch and there were three boxes from Dell! What a pleasant surprise. I bought the computer on Monday and they said the tentative ship date was next Monday, February 4th. I got an e-mail yesterday saying it had shipped and would be delivered today. I wasn't going to believe it until it happened. Well, it happened. I did a cursory check and everything is there that is supposed to be there including speakers, two optical drives, a keyboard, a flat screen monitor with USB ports, a 19 in 1 media card reader and all necessary cables and CD program discs. Since I'm seeing George tonight (not that George, the one who hangs out in the park and paints) I won't set it up until tomorrow. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
-
It's been a productive day so far (outside of the work environment but that's another story). I mailed my state taxes and mailed in the form required for e-filers for my federal taxes. I should have my refund in a couple of weeks. And when I pay for the computer I'll still have money left over!
-
Our new database at work has decided to misbehave. Problems (bugs as they are called in the software design area) are being worked out but it's been a pain in the behind trying to work this morning.
-
My ASK BK question:
Have you ever finished writing anything so quickly? That gazelle is doing overtime laps!!
If I do finish next week, this certainly will be the quickest novel - MAHH was the former quickest at eight weeks. The longest was the first - almost ten months.
-
Pages are still printing.
-
Yikes. A very pushy woman from church just called. Luckily, I stayed strong and declined to be involved with the Easter sunrise service next month. She wanted me to write the script, build some kind of cheesy sets out of cardboard, and involve the youth.
I declined because none of those things are my strengths, and a lot of stuff always falls to me at holidays anyway.
-
Happy news Ben. Does this mean we will soon have photos of Anthony's latest project?
-
DR Laura-I'm confused how anything to do with Easter can be in February.
-
Oh, & good for you declining!
-
Yes, glad you stayed strong, DearReaderLaura DR!! :D
-
Those pushy church ladies are insidious.
Insidious, I tell you.
-
DearReaderLaura DR, this cardboard stage set may be available for rental.
But I guess it's not very "Eastery." :-\
(http://www.musicorld.com/stage/pckmusical/stage.jpg)
-
And speaking of insidious, where's our DR RLP today?
-
HOO and RAY for DR Ben and Ant!!!! :) :) :)
-
Last night we watched an incredible movie, ZWARTBOEK aka BLACKBOOK, co-written & directed by Paul Verhoeven.
From the script, to the direction, to the amazing performances, it was a powerful film.
-
Jane, Lent (the 40 days before Easter) begins next week. Easter is early this year.
-
I have the feeling I haven't heard the last of this, either.
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... So... Who's having a Superbowl Party this weekend?
-
Jane, Lent (the 40 days before Easter) begins next week. Easter is early this year.
Is Ash Wednesday really next week already? Wow!
-
Maybe the week after. It goes in this coming Sunday's bulletin.
-
However, it would have been nice if they had made their plans before the newsletter got printed.
-
We always meet at someone's house (they have a large-screen tv) and have too many snacks. Those who don't like football play games. It is DR Sandra's second favorite day of the year (after New Year's Eve).
-
In other news...
I constructed, prepared and consumed my almost-Cubano/Media Noche. I say "almost" because I did not add the sliced ham - which is traditional. I figured the roast pork from last night was enough pork for today.
I also got one of the last loaves of Cuban Bread from the bodega up the street. They get it fresh every morning, and it's usually off the shelves shortly after it's been delivered. I've even seen some customers lying in wait for the delivery guy in order to snatch up as many loaves as possible. It's good stuff! And just a $1.00 a loaf. And since it's a long loaf, I was able to prepare a few more almost-cubanos for later in the week. Or for delivery. ;)
-
DR elmore - Thanks for the update from DR MBarnum.
And do I need to make another trip down to your office to look at your computer? ;)
-
Last night we watched an incredible movie, ZWARTBOEK aka BLACKBOOK, co-written & directed by Paul Verhoeven.

I agree. I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time
-
Jane, Lent (the 40 days before Easter) begins next week. Easter is early this year.
Now I understand. I didn't associate Lent with an Easter sunrise service. I looked at my calendar, Easter is early :o
-
Maybe the week after. It goes in this coming Sunday's bulletin.
Yep, Ash Wednesday falls on February 6 this year.
Which means Mardi Gras falls on February 5. -Hmm... The Superbowl and Mardi Gras in the same week? Thatsa lotta partyin'.

WOW!
When you said you scream like a girl, you meant it!
-
ArnoldMBrockman, I'm pleased you also saw the film, and agree.
I wanted to read more about two of the leads, Rachel & Ludwig. It was sweet to read they are a couple, though there was no mention of marriage.

What show/story is that pic (in your original post) associated with?
For more lovely photos of the even lovelier James Royce Edwards, you can go here (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/7537).

And, speaking of Edwards...
The presidential candidates, they are a-fallin', fast! :-\

We have a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday. I expect I'll get a phone call about that, too.

DR Ben, I thought the kinks in the database were supposed to be sorted out by the time you came back to the office!?!

Hi, DearReaderLaura.
-
They will want a skit written. And actors.
-
Hi, Jane.
-
Why, hello, DR RLP!! I was just talking about you...
-
Hi, JRand.
-
Hi Ron.
-
Hi, Ginny.
-
Hi, Jo.
-
Hello DR RLP.
-
Hi, FJL (aka Fred).
-
Hi Ron. :)
-
They will want a skit written.
DearReaderLaura DR - here's a little hint.
If you get DR FJL to write the skit, they'll never ask you be involved again.
Ever.
;)
-
What? No Jo? No mo Jo? He just logged out and went his way without checking in?
-
DR Ben, I thought the kinks in the database were supposed to be sorted out by the time you came back to the office!?!
Now that I've stopped laughing I can say
Nope!
-
Did someone say Pancake Supper?
-
Well, if that ain't the darndest way to get the posting numbers up!
-
Hi, Ron.
-
Hi Ron. :)
Skritch Sherlock behind the ears and along the snoots for me.
-
singdaw - I think you need to spend more time here and less time reading All that Chat. :)
-
Hi, Ron.
Saw the get-together photos! LOVE the tree! ;D
-
singdaw - I think you need to spend more time here and less time reading All that Chat. :)
Where almost everyone who posts "is a woman!"
-
Hi Ron!!! (that's three exclamation points)
-
And since we still have snow, & Keith is out clearing our driveway instead of using the computer...
It's picture time.
-
DR FJL - I think you are right.
:)
-
My friend and I used to have recurring characters that would "pop up" from time to time when I would tell the children's story. I was the straight man and she would do the puppets. The layout of the sanctuary was great for having her hide without anyone know she was behind the planters. We wrote out own stuff. The characters were bugs and other vermin.
-
DearReaderLaura DR - here's a little hint.
If you get DR FJL to write the skit, they'll never ask you be involved again.
Ever.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! (that's 3 "Ooh's")
I went and started

The characters were bugs and other vermin.
DR elmore3003 may have a suggestion for a new addition to the cast.
-
That's quite a vicious looking branch Sherlock caught, Jane.
-
For more lovely photos of the even lovelier James Royce Edwards, you can go here (http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm/story/7537).
AH! I thought that was James! He was on the Mamma Mia! the first time I went out on the road with them. *And Emy's last name is actually spelled "Baysic".
-
DR elmore3003 may have a suggestion for a new addition to the cast.
I thought of that as I typed it out.
-
DR DearReaderLaura - I was thinking along the same lines. Maybe the DRs of HHW could write your script for you, complete with songs and staging and costume suggestions!
-
Howya doin' today, DR Ron Pulliam? Is your tummy still rumbly?
-
OH! I just realized that I'm having a Cherry Coke. How very DR Sandra of me!
-
Could "floop" be that far behind?
-
Hi, Ron!
-
BK, I do indeed read the posts, but as much as I'd love to blame Jose, I blame Mr. Bark Makalor, because I typically use the "new" button, which I did (as usual) yesterday, but for some reason it took me to the subsequent page, so I thought you had not answered. After Singdaw's post this morning I went back and read your answer and was going to post here but the crisis with dangling telephone wires and electric lines intervened.
-
DR DearReaderLaura - I was thinking along the same lines. Maybe the DRs of HHW could write your script for you, complete with songs and staging and costume suggestions!
And tap dancing. Don't forget the tap dancing.
I think it is a wonderful idea.
-
DR SINGINGNYMPH - nice sandpiper fotos.
Sherlock And the Stick......
-
Can someone tell me what "floop" actually consists of? ???
-
Howya doin' today, DR Ron Pulliam? Is your tummy still rumbly?
Ummm-Hmmmm.
It's flutzing every now and again.
-
OH! I just realized that I'm having a Cherry Coke. How very DR Sandra of me!
Underpants!
-
Can someone tell me what "floop" actually consists of? ???
My kids could.
-
BK, I do indeed read the posts, but as much as I'd love to blame Jose...
-
That's quite a vicious looking branch Sherlock caught, Jane.
LOL-That is nothing compared to others he has found. Our goal is to stay away from him when he's running with one of those vicious looking branches.
-
Something tells me I really should get out of the apartment today. ::)
-
OK, it's official, I am indeed having the day from hell. I had just dropped the kids off at school (did I mention it's a "snow day"--meaning approximately 3 snowflakes fell, sending the entire city into a panic--so they started 2 hours late), then dropped by Border's to return a mispackaged Miss Marple set (two of one movie, which I hadn't noticed). Asked two salespeople where the companion book for PBS's "Jewish Americans" was, both of them said they had never heard of it. The second looked it up on the computer and said it wasn't in stock. I decided to look it up, and it was indeed in stock. The saleslady then told me she was too busy and referred me to the manager who, instead of just walking to the screen I already had up with the item on it, went through a several minute rigamarole giving me the third degree on book title, author, release date, blah, blah, blah. He then curtly took me over to the Jewish History section, where they had AN ENTIRE FRIGGING SHELFFUL OF THE DAMNED BOOK. Oy!
Then I stopped at Fred Meyer to pick up a mileage book for one of our cars, was in the store all of 30 seconds and returned to find someone had parked their car literally 1/2 inch away from my driver's side. Absolutely no way for me to even fit in there sideways, let alone open the door. So I get to trundle back in the store and have them announce over the PA that the owner of the car needs to move it. Go back out and wait and about 10 minutes later this daffy little old lady comes out, completely oblivious. I point to how close she is to my car and her retort is, "Well the car next to me was too far over." FIND ANOTHER PARKING SPACE, THEN!!!!!
My head is going to explode.
-
Jose- 8)
-
JMK, may your day improve. I wish you could shop at DR TD's Border's.
-
Let it be known... I was no where near that Border's nor that Fred Meyer that DR JMK was just at. No. Where. Near.
-
An actual photograph of me:
-
I'll have act one of AIN'T NOTHIN' GOIN' ON BUT THE LENT ready in a few minutes.
-
Easter is actually as early as it can be this year. FWIW.
-
LOL, FJL!
-
Oh -- a small detail.

I'll have act one of AIN'T NOTHIN' GOIN' ON BUT THE LENT ready in a few minutes.
Are you including "The Butcher's Lament"/"Fishmonger's Holiday" sequence?

Oh... And I guess you could pull out that Kander & Ebb trunk sung, "What Should I Give Up?"

"What Did I Have That I Don't Have"

Today is Wee Baby Doris' birthday, and DR Laura will hopefully post some pictures that I sent her (since I never get it right anymore to post a picture here). Wee Baby Doris is no doubt chewing up something in heaven and watching over all of us. Happy Birthday, WBD!

Happy B-Day to Wee Baby Doris.

I am listening to a lovely Kevin Spirtas CD entitled Night and Days....got it from Kritzerland....was going to return it because somebody wrote all over the front of it....turned out, Mr Spirtas signed it!
Great CD! Even if "Somewhere" is spelled "Somehwere" in a couple of places.

I think The Raging Headache was produced by Al Zugsmith....which I think is a perfect name for a producer!
Question for ASK BK day - which Al Zugsmith movie is your favorite?
-
DR MATTH has mentioned some great upcoming DVD releases....I hope all interested parties have pre-ordered!
-
Oh -- a small detail.
No one is able to memorize any lines.
Well, there's a very easy work-around for that. You have a cast of readers and singers standing at podiums around the stage - with the scripts in front of them, while a cast of movers and dancers "interpret" what is being read. And just to make it easier for the "movers and dancers" and the audience to keep track of things, you can do what they did for the original production of Merrily We Roll Along - just make up some sweatshirts with their characters' names on them.
-
I love all Albert Zugsmith films. Did he do High School Confidential with Russ Tamblyn? That would be my fave.
-
Mr. MBarnum best get his Bollywood butt cheeks back here or he will be bitch-slapped from here to eternity and hell and back when he arrives in the city of Los Angeles.
-
I'm about to toddle off for a lunch meeting at In 'n' Out Burger - it was supposed to happen at 11:30 but was pushed to 12:30 - I fear it will be very crowded, which it wouldn't have been at 11:30.
-
I'm listening to an LP transfer on the good stereo and it sounds yummilicious. My car's CD player seems to have given up the ghost - not quite sure how to go about repairing it, other than taking it in to the dealer and getting a new one.
-
Yes Mr Zugsmith produced High School Confidential and College Confidential both starring Ms Mamie Van Doren.
He also produced The Private Lives of Adam (Marty Milner) and Eve (Van Doren) and Sex Kittens (Van Doren) Go to College,
-
the original production of Merrily We Roll Along
GOD, was that production ugly. Set, costumes....ugly, Ugly, UGLY! :P
-
So it was God who produced it? I was wondering.....

Ron, Nature is showing "The Colorful Parrots of Oz" again this Sunday. It looks great (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/parrotsinoz/) & I’ve set it to record, with concerns the picture won’t be exceptional. You are lucky your PBS station has high-def. I wasn’t aware any PBS station had it.
After you click on great you need to click on "This week on Nature: Parrots in the Land of Oz" to open the page. There is a nice clip of the show to watch.
-
Now THIS is a movie:

So it was God who produced it?
Well, SOME people think Hal Prince is God! ;)

Does anyone need a spotter?
(http://www.theatermania.com/news/images/7537j.jpg)
i do-- especially if they are those two! :o
-
JMK, may your day improve. I wish you could shop at DR TD's Border's.
With the price of gas what it is, JMK will just have to face the consequences out west.
-
I think The Raging Headache was produced by Al Zugsmith....which I think is a perfect name for a producer!
Question for ASK BK day - which Al Zugsmith movie is your favorite?
Seymour Pippin! Seymour Pippin! That's an even better name for a producer!
-
JMK will just have to face the consequences
Or the Truth.
-
You have a cast of readers and singers ...
Singers? I think we have another small problem.
-
Now THIS is a movie:

I can't believe I watched the entire clip ;D
-
I have the feeling I haven't heard the last of this, either.
I'll help you if i can. You have helped me enough!
-
Did someone say Pancake Supper?
LOL!!!!!
-
My friend and I used to have recurring characters that would "pop up" from time to time when I would tell the children's story. I was the straight man and she would do the puppets. The layout of the sanctuary was great for having her hide without anyone know she was behind the planters. We wrote out own stuff. The characters were bugs and other vermin.
I can verify that DR Laura has a cockroach handpuppett! :P
-
Can someone tell me what "floop" actually consists of? ???
You don't want to know, but I'll admit i liked it.
-
I can't believe I watched the entire clip ;D
Now you don't have to watch the ENTIRE movie - even to hear Mamie say:
"And that proves the theory of relativity." ;D

LOL-That is nothing compared to others he has found. Our goal is to stay away from him when he's running with one of those vicious looking branches.
Sherlock would have loved what I found in our driveway this morning. We had very high winds last night bringing in a cold front and many huge branches were snapped off the old trees that surround our house.

Oh so cute!

:D He sure would have.
Off to give the pooch some attention.

Well, it turns out I will be able to join DR FJL tonight at 2nd Stage to see Next To Normal since my friend won't be coming in from LA until early tomorrow morning (he had to bump himself to the red-eye due to a work issue). So, in the meantime, I guess I should go ahead and take care of some stuff around the apartment.
Laters...
-
Had another full afternoon of viewing.
I began by finishing ERASER on laserdisc which I had started last night.
Side 1 of the laserdisc was starting to display laser rot with lots of speckles and dropouts. Side 2 was pristine. I suspect this will be the last time I will ever watch this movie on that laserdisc. I don't have the DVD and don't intend on ordering it, but it Warners releases it on Blu-ray, I might consider getting that.
It's completely preposterous, of course, but lots of stuff gets blown up and Arnold takes spikes through both his right hand and his left leg and a bullet to his left shoulder and keeps right on blowing things up. He's not the Terminator for nothing. Oh, wrong movie. . . .
-
They will want a skit written. And actors.
You should graciously inform the ignorant "they" that there is a writer's strike going on, and that you are no scab!

Next, I watched CRIMSON TIDE on Blu-ray. Of the three Jerry Bruckheimer-produced action films that have come out on Blu-ray in the last few weeks (THE ROCK, CON AIR, and CRIMSON TIDE), this is by far the best. Filled with great actors, both stars and character actors. In the supporting cast are such people as Viggo Mortensen, James Gandolfini, Matt Craven, Ryan Philippe, Steve Zahn, Rocky Carroll, George Dzundza, and, at the end, Jason Robards in an unbilled cameo.
As for the transfer quality, I found it better than CON AIR but not quite as colorful, sharp, or three dimensional as THE ROCK. Great sound, though. Since most of it takes place on a submarine in battle mode, the subwoofer was never quiet for almost the entire two hours.
-
When I finished the film, I watched the bonus features on the disc. Sadly, all are in standard definition 480i. There were deleted scenes, a behind the scenes tour of the set with impromptu hijinks with the cast, and a "making of" documentary done at the time of the filming which gives far too much away of the plot.
-
I finished my afternoon skimming quickly through AS THE WORLD TURNS, quickly because my boys weren't on today nor were they in the previews for tomorrow.

Yup..."Parrots in the Land of Oz" was the title. I was "misremembering" by using "Colorful"....but, apropos!

I guess I am out of the loop lately, but where did this Tom Cruise (Scientology) interview originate? Was it from a TV news magazine, or one of the nightly entertainment programs, or somewhere else?
The original production is a lengthy film shown by the scientologists to visitors to their centers. The current show making the rounds is a slick UTube condensation/edit of the original. Sites like TMZ.com have picked up the clip and run with it. The "highlighting" of Tom Cruise and Scientology is in response to Andrew Morton's new book on Cruise.

Hello, everyone.
DR JANE--Papa Bach was on Santa Monica Blvd, roughly across the street from the NuArt Theatre, just west of the SD Fwy.

the subwoofer was never quiet for almost the entire two hours.

Let it be known... I was no where near that Border's nor that Fred Meyer that DR JMK was just at. No. Where. Near.
But otherwise....the "little old lady" COULD have been you?
Is that what you're saying?
-
DR GINNY--I enjoyed the article from PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY. Not only did a get a few new-author leads, but I enjoyed the insights into the book biz. Thanks!
I've never read the China Bayles books, but I have read Robin Paige, the Victorian series.

I didn't know you could still get XP. I need a new computer and have also been avoiding Vista. One friend of mine was saying that he thinks that the pre-installed Vista would be OK, but it sounds like that's not the case. My friend used to be an operating system architect and was telling me about how Microsoft approaches operating system design. That rather cinched it. I'm planning to buy a Mac. But I'd take XP, which I'm currently running, over Vista any day!
-
Well, I don't have a Teddy, but I do my best... ;)
Wanna borrow mine?

I really oughta catch up before I post.

DR elmore3003 may have a suggestion for a new addition to the cast.
Eggsactly.

Sympathies to DR JMK. I once had a similar parking incident. In my case, the woman whose car it was wasn't the least bit interested in that fact that she had inconvenienced others. I like the loud speaker approach. I'll have to remember that.
-
GOD, was that production ugly. Set, costumes....ugly, Ugly, UGLY! :P
I believe this is the first negative remark I've heard from DR SINGDAW.

BUG-FREE VIBES to DR BEN. Let's hope that your computer problems are in the past!

Computer vibage to Ben!

Back from a nice lunch meeting. I had two cheeseburgers and animal fries and am quite satisfied.

I wrote almost three pages before I left, so for the next couple of hours I'll do LP transfers, then do one more page, then more LP transfers. This Claus Ogerman Zorba is beautiful, filled with his glorious orchestrations.

Will we never get to page ten?
-
I thought of errant and truant MBarnum as I drove by the Bollywood Cafe.
-
Currently transferring two guitar-based albums - Joe Pass playing twelve-string guitar doing movie themes of the 60s, and then Johnny Smith, a guitarist I don't know at all, doing nice songs.

I will single-handedly take us to page ten.

He also produced The Private Lives of Adam (Marty Milner)

I have some writing to do, and then I'll head down and probably start BEAUTY AND THE BEAST to get a couple of those episodes out of way before LAW & ORDER comes on at 10.

I have that TV soundtrack (the cover of mine looks a little different, I believe). I MUCH prefer it to the Jack Carson Broadway recording of the early 1950s even though the TV version changed the show and altered the songs to fit the performers on that special.
Thanks for the info. I don't have the Jack Carson version, just the concert version with Larry Kert and Maureen McGovern. By the way, is this the album that you have?:

Yes, Dell is the only company still selling pre-installed XP and in June IIRC they will stop selling it. That's why I wanted to get the new computer now. If you don't depend on certain old programs and are willing to buy some new peripherals (printer, scanner, etc) Vista can be good from what I hear but if you already have time and money invested in other programs and equipment and all you need is a new computer then XP is the way to go, IMHO.
-
Well, here's another ask BK or DR question: I just got a screener of the Branagh film Peter's Friends, an MGM release. It has the standard MGM packaging. But when the DVD starts, it has the 20th Century Fox Home Video logo. I don't think I've ever seen a shared Fox/MGM release before, but maybe I'm just not remembering right now (not unusual, considering my head exploded earlier today). When did Fox acquire MGM titles, or vice versa?

~~~Super Vibes of Comfort and Coping!!~~~
:D
Oh -- a small detail.
No one is able to memorize any lines.
One word: Props!! Lots of hand-held props where scripts can be hidden on/in/behind and carried on stage. :)
I gotta tell you.
Been doing an LP transfer of this Joe Pass album - side one went fine - side two by the time it got to the last two tracks dust had accumulated on the needle, so I had to it over - then two tracks before the end, a piece of dirt had lodged itself into the track (from where?), and I had to do that over.
-
OK, now, while you're pumping those weights, Charlie, you've got to remember to chant - "I must, I must, I must increase my bust!"
Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... So... Who's having a Superbowl Party this weekend?
I've already checked with the front end manager at the store.
I'll be working during the game.
Since I don't care about football, and only have "passing" interest in football players, this works out fine for me.
We have a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday. I expect I'll get a phone call about that, too.
And wearing that cute little French maid outfit would sure be a bonus! :D
I blame MBarnum, Volare and Ebb Tide.
And as of this afternoon.....
WE HAVE A GRAND NEPHEW!!!
Every time I think about the baby I get rather emotional.
My brother called me from the hospital, even before the baby was weighed. All I know is he at least 8 pounds. I'm waiting to hear more details.
I wasn't the only concerned one, my brother was and the mother wanted her mother with her in the room, which was ok with my nephew. I think more family members would have been permitted if there weren't concerns during the deliver. But all is well! :D
-
Congrats to Jane and family
-
Thank you FJL :)
-
Finally doing the second LP trasfer - that first one was a beast. But, I'm listening to the fruits of yesterday's labor and they sound great, so it's worth the time, I suppose, and this is kind of my relaxing day, writing-wise (one or two more pages for sure, at some point today or tonight).
-
Congrats to Aunt Jane. Not quite as exciting as a puppy but almost. Did MBarnum's brother make the delivery?
-
Hey! We made it up to 2 degrees today.
There is hammering going on next door.
Speaking of cooking, der B bought some challah a couple of days ago, and suggested it would make great French toast.
So, I'll be combining that with sausage and fruit. An easy dinner for tonight.
I do not like hammering.
Listening to a marvelous 60s TV theme album by Harry Betts - it's swingin', man.
-
It was on Choreo records, one of my most favorite labels, which was owned by Mr. Fred Astaire (hence Choreo as in choreography). Later, he changed the label name to Ava (as in Ava Astaire, his daughter).
-
LP transfer two is going much more smoothly than LP transfer one, and is almost done in about an hour's less time.
-
Will we never get to page eleven?
Yesterday's dinner was also by request of der B:
He spotted that recipe I posted a couple of days ago, the Lemon-Glazed Sweet Potatoes, and asked me to give it a try. So I did. It turned out very yummilicious, and I've a couple of ideas on how to improve on it for next time.
I paired it with a very nice ham steak and zucchini fritters, which der B is now saying he likes.
Very very very [that's three "very"s] good to see you around, DR MBarnum! :)
Off to the theater for some electro-shock therapy (I've always wanted to say that :) )
Now I have 7 day's worth of posts to catch up on.
It's about time!
Welcome back. :)
-
Tomorrow night's dinner will be leftover Beouf Bourgonionne, due to my switiching hours with a co-worker. She has a late afternoon doctors appointment, which conflicted with her working the self-scan registers for the late afternoon/evening shift. Since I was scheduled for the morning/early afternoon shift, it was easy for us to trade (with management approval, of course).
There's a catch to all this, of course.
Remember my rant from a few days ago, when I complained about having missed much of Lost's season three, due to work schedule conflicts, compounded by der B and myself never being able to co-ordinate our viewing of the stuff he recorded (thanks to his always having other stuff to record and watch).
Well, Lost's season opener lands right when I'm going to be at work tomorrow!
::)
-
It might not be as bad as it initially sounds. I'm supposed to have Friday off, and I was planning on making a batch of chicken stock. It's a pretty low-maintenance job, so I should be able to watch the recorded stuff while the stock is in the oven.
Ben, I'm glad you're happy with your XP, but don't fear Vista. My new office computers are both Vista and all my old software works as well as my peripherals. I just had to download a couple patches and Vista goes to the net, looks for the patches and downloads them for you. In general I'm very happy with it. It does a few annoying things, but they are mostly like asking for permission to change anything and I could probably turn that off if I wanted to
CONGRATS!!!! Welcome to the world of being a Great Aunt...or as I say, a Fabulous Aunt
That's sweet. Sadly, I don't get to L.A. all that often. It is too far to drive, & pricey to go anywhere from our Medford airport. I going to try & go more often now, maybe without Keith & Sherlock ;D.
I'm keep telling the parents to get a web cam :)
-
Great news from Great Aunt Jane!
With whom, I wonder, is Ethan Hawke HAVING this baby?
Jane: What will your grand nephew be named?
If they're not sure yet, you might suggest "Bruiser".
-
Der B is watching the debate. ::)
I'm going to get some food on the table.
-
OK, it's official, I am indeed having the day from hell. I had just dropped the kids off at school (did I mention it's a "snow day"--meaning approximately 3 snowflakes fell, sending the entire city into a panic--so they started 2 hours late), then dropped by Border's to return a mispackaged Miss Marple set (two of one movie, which I hadn't noticed). Asked two salespeople where the companion book for PBS's "Jewish Americans" was, both of them said they had never heard of it. The second looked it up on the computer and said it wasn't in stock. I decided to look it up, and it was indeed in stock. The saleslady then told me she was too busy and referred me to the manager who, instead of just walking to the screen I already had up with the item on it, went through a several minute rigamarole giving me the third degree on book title, author, release date, blah, blah, blah. He then curtly took me over to the Jewish History section, where they had AN ENTIRE FRIGGING SHELFFUL OF THE DAMNED BOOK. Oy!
Then I stopped at Fred Meyer to pick up a mileage book for one of our cars, was in the store all of 30 seconds and returned to find someone had parked their car literally 1/2 inch away from my driver's side. Absolutely no way for me to even fit in there sideways, let alone open the door. So I get to trundle back in the store and have them announce over the PA that the owner of the car needs to move it. Go back out and wait and about 10 minutes later this daffy little old lady comes out, completely oblivious. I point to how close she is to my car and her retort is, "Well the car next to me was too far over." FIND ANOTHER PARKING SPACE, THEN!!!!!
My head is going to explode.
Can we say "Manopause?"
I hope the day went better for DR JMK in the afternoon.
No new PWOJECT WUNWAY tonight for some reason.
-
Off to do the Online Test!
-
I'm wondering how traumatic it would be to switch over from PC to Mac? Can most peripherals [monitors, printers, speakers, etc., etc.] work with both?
I don't know about how well peripherals might or might not work, but I've heard that it's a lot easier for users to switch from a PC to a Mac than from a Mac to a PC. :)
-
I've never used a Mac, so I don't know. :-\
-
I'll have act one of AIN'T NOTHIN' GOIN' ON BUT THE LENT ready in a few minutes.
You know, I think we may have a hit on our hands. NYMF here we come!
Can I play Mimi? I'm broad where a broad should be broad... :P
Maybe that's not such a good idea, after all. ::)
-
Finished the test in about 9 minutes. Probably got about 42 or so out of 50. Had to pass on three and there were a couple of others I wasn't sure about.....so....maybe I will get a call sometime or other!
Yes Mr Zugsmith produced High School Confidential and College Confidential both starring Ms Mamie Van Doren.
He also produced The Private Lives of Adam (Marty Milner) and Eve (Van Doren) and Sex Kittens (Van Doren) Go to College,
I suppose it would be quite an expense to re-purchase Mac versions of all your major applications.
And as of this afternoon.....
WE HAVE A GRAND NEPHEW!!!
Every time I think about the baby I get rather emotional.
My brother called me from the hospital, even before the baby was weighed. All I know is he at least 8 pounds. I'm waiting to hear more details.
I wasn't the only concerned one, my brother was and the mother wanted her mother with her in the room, which was ok with my nephew. I think more family members would have been permitted if there weren't concerns during the deliver. But all is well! :D
The heartiest of congratulations!
Now THIS is a movie:
Of course I appreciate your posts DR Vixmom. It's the challenge of solving the code.
Thanks for the info. I don't have the Jack Carson version, just the concert version with Larry Kert and Maureen McGovern. By the way, is this the album that you have?:
I wonder why there are two versions??
With any luck, they rewrote it!
DRLaura was kind enough to accompany me while I checked out out a cottage for rent. I wanted another person's impressions of it. It's cute, but it's not perfect (what is--- especially on my income-- i.e. zero). But i know the area well and grew up near it and could walk to many places. The main plus is that it is a separate standing building, and the stripper's stereo next door is gettin' real old --- fast. We'll see what happens.
On a happier note, I loved looking at all the pics of Wee baby Doris. What a character she was. And what she added to my life. Bless you , Doris!
I like Ron's suggestion of Bruiser more.
Oh! Maybe that's not a suggestion for the name.
I think Laura allows people to sleep in the Church yard DR Kerry. Would that be a help?
Well, DR JoseSPiano went on tour with him, so he just might be able to help you out!
CONGRATULATIONS TO GREAT AUNT JANE
CONGRATULATIONS TO GREAT UNCLE KEITH
Congratulations, Auntie Jane!
You were expecting Michael Parks and Ulla Bergryd, maybe? 8)
No, but possibly Arthur Hill and Uta Hagen!
-
Doing the final LP transfer of the evening - a Don Costa album (coupled with a great Les Brown album). Two tomorrow and I'll basically be finished with LP transfers for a while.
-
DR’s ArnoldMBrockman & TCB-Thank you for the cute congrats.
-
I must say, Capitol has the quietest vinyl ever.
-
A non-BK question (since I don't believe he has Netflix):
Has anyone watched any of the movies online as part of your Nextflix monthly fee?
-
No. We might if we wanted to hook up to our TV. I'm sure if Bryan were living here he would do so.
-
Congratulations to Fabulous Aunt Jane!
My DS weighed the same.
-
The cottage had many many many fine points. But it is not perfect. His current place is great -- except for the stripper.
-
Congratulations to Fabulous Aunt Jane!
My DS weighed the same.
Your Dear Sister weighed over 9 lbs.?
-
Is there nothing to be done about the stripper? It is a shame to leave a perfect place.
-
Thank you DR Laura. The mother of the baby weighed 10 pounds at birth so they were relieved the baby wasn't bigger.
-
A non-BK question (since I don't believe he has Netflix):
Has anyone watched any of the movies online as part of your Nextflix monthly fee?
I wanted to, but you need to have either Windows XP or Vista to do it. I have Windows 2000 (built on NT technology), so it's not compatible. :P
-
Anyway, I'm now leaving work.
Until later. :)
-
'night.
Almost done with the LP transfer. Then I'm going to relax and I'll think about watching a motion picture on DVD.
you never did answer my question from this morning dear Mr. K.... which 6 LPs did you transfer yesterday?
Good night Jane, have sweet baby dreams!!
Come to think of it, Sandra wrote a Christmas skit a few years ago. It starred Satan.
I watched AMERICAN IDOL tonight.
And recorded the 2 hour last season's finale of LOST. That is must see tv for me (since i cannot remember some of the details and want to be ready for tomorrow's premiere).
Plus there are supposed to be extras (interesting comments at the bottom of the screen). I wonder if this will give some insight into something i might not have understood.
-
ROTFL!
I see DR Sandra as Larry somehow....
Larry the Cucumber not Larry the Elmore
Yes, I have the top one. I'm not sure why there would have been two unless the second one was a special release with a sponsor-linked logo on it.
Setup, cooking, serving, cleanup? Is that really so much to ask? And wearing that cute little French maid outfit would sure be a bonus! :D
For Sing or Laura?? ??? ???
Well, here's another ask BK or DR question: I just got a screener of the Branagh film Peter's Friends, an MGM release. It has the standard MGM packaging. But when the DVD starts, it has the 20th Century Fox Home Video logo. I don't think I've ever seen a shared Fox/MGM release before, but maybe I'm just not remembering right now (not unusual, considering my head exploded earlier today). When did Fox acquire MGM titles, or vice versa?
Fox is now the distributor of MGM-controlled films. This has been in effect for at least half a year, I believe.
-
I hope the day went better for DR JMK in the afternoon.
No new PWOJECT WUNWAY tonight for some reason.
I don't know why not, but I knew there wasn't a new episode. That's why it wasn't in my TV Reminder this morning.
However, I did forget to mentiona new RENO 911! this morning.
-
I had to go back and check on a few things on the CRIMSON TIDE Blu-ray, so that's how I began my evening of viewing.
-
I'm wondering how traumatic it would be to switch over from PC to Mac? Can most peripherals [monitors, printers, speakers, etc., etc.] work with both?
I am assured that these days everything works with everything else.
-
I then watched a bunch of NCIS episodes out of the DVD box set. Having watched and written up that CRIMSON TIDE Blu-ray, I just wasn't in the mood to take any more notes.
-
Dera Reader Laura, maybe these guys (in the spirit of Christian love) will lend you their costumes!
One of the episodes I watched was the one where McGee was trying to protect his sister from a murder rap.
The mysteries are actually better than I remembered some of them being.
I still think Lauren Holly is a terrible actress.
-
Oh, another I watched and enjoyed was the one where Ziva fell in love with a man dying of radiation poisoning. A very poignant episode.
-
I ended my evening watching tonight's LAW & ORDER. Boy, they certainly took it off in a totally different direction than it seemed to be going at the beginning.
Love the newly revised LAW & ORDER!
-
I don't know about how well peripherals might or might not work, but I've heard that it's a lot easier for users to switch from a PC to a Mac than from a Mac to a PC. :)
I had a Mac many years ago, but in those days you were either in the Mac world or the PC world. My clients were 90% in PCs and I had to be compatible, so I bought the Dell I'm still using and moved to the PC world. As for the OS, Macs have always been more user-friendly, thus, yes, it's usually easier to go from PC to Mac than vice-versa.
As most of you know, I HATE MICROSOFT!
-
I find those vegetables mildly disturbing.
-
DR TOMOVOZ,
THE STREET arrived today and I gave it a try. Fine cast, fine production, but the writing is...a bit strange, IMO. A lot of unhappy people, often behaving badly, and finding themselves in rather hopeless situations. I found it just too depressing.
Has anyone else seen this show? (BBC, 2006)
The pushy lady called again about twenty minutes ago.
Good night.
Guess I'll head down now and go to bed.
Good night!
THINGS THAT HALLMARK CARDS DON'T SAY
I thought it was flat
When I looked at the tire...
I noticed your cat.
Sorry!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Heard your wife left you,
How upset you must be.
But don't fret about it...
She moved in with me.
Looking back over the years
that we've been together,
I can't help but wonder...
Congratulations on your wedding day!
Too bad no one likes your husband.
How could two people as beautiful as you
Have such an ugly baby?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I've always wanted to have
someone to hold,
someone to love.
After having met you .
I've changed my mind.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I must admit, you brought Religion into my life.
I never believed in Hell until I met you.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
As the days go by, I think of how lucky I am...
That you're not here to ruin it for me.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Congratulations on your promotion.
Before you go...
Would you like to take this knife out of my back?
You'll probably need it again.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Happy Birthday, Uncle Dad!
(Available only in Tennessee, Kentucky & West Virginia)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Happy birthday! You look great for your age.
Almost Lifelike!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
When we were together,
you always said you'd die for me.
Now that we've broken up,
I think it's time you kept your promise.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
We have been friends for a very long time ..
let's say we stop?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I'm so miserable without you
it's almost like you're here.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.
Did you ever find out who the father was?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Your friends and I wanted to do
something special for your birthday.
So we're having you put to sleep.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
So your daughter's a hooker,
and it spoiled your day.
Look at the bright side,
it's really good pay
The pushy lady called again about twenty minutes ago.
Did you say, "An Easter skit? What a wonderful idea! Hoew cllever of you to have written one, I can't wait to see it!!"
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from the theatre, where it appeared to be Broadway Celebrity Night: Idina Menzel, Taye Diggs, Laura Benanti, Anthony Rapp, Marc Shaiman, etc. DR FJL and I even ended up sitting just a seat away from my favorite casting director, Jay Binder - who had very kind words to say about DR FJL's ever-lovin' Skip. I even ran into a friend of mine from D.C. who was up in the city for a few days for some auditions.
...And then on the train ride home, I happened to run into the keyboard crew from The Little Mermaid. Talk, talk, talk, talk. :)
-
Speaking of cooking, der B bought some challah a couple of days ago, and suggested it would make great French toast.
So, I'll be combining that with sausage and fruit. An easy dinner for tonight.
Challah makes some of the best French Toast! Egg Bread dipped in more eggs! YUM! Challah French Toast is a staple of most diner menus here in NYC. OH! And it makes a great bread pudding too!
-
Your Dear Sister weighed over 9 lbs.?
Hey, I weighed over 9 lbs! DR Samantha was over 10 lbs!
-
Ben, I'm glad you're happy with your XP, but don't fear Vista. My new office computers are both Vista and all my old software works as well as my peripherals. I just had to download a couple patches and Vista goes to the net, looks for the patches and downloads them for you. In general I'm very happy with it. It does a few annoying things, but they are mostly like asking for permission to change anything and I could probably turn that off if I wanted to
That was the first thing I turned off when I got Vista. ;D
I'm wondering how traumatic it would be to switch over from PC to Mac? Can most peripherals [monitors, printers, speakers, etc., etc.] work with both?
It's not traumatic at all. I made the switch a few years ago, and the learning curve was very fast. Very fast. As for your peripherals, they should all be able to make the switch too. Just check the company's online sites to see if they have Mac drivers. If your peripherals are USB-enabled, then they should be Mac-compatible. *I have a portable printer that I wish I could use with my Mac, but it uses a parallel port connection - which is not a Mac thing. And the audio ports are the same for PCs and Macs.
-
..................And your point?
Yeah, DR singdaw! I mean, it's just a phone number!
;)
-
I like the loud speaker approach.
Surreptitiously loosen two valve stems - that will leave a lasting impression.
der Brucer
If you have a kind heart, just do one so AAA can change a tire.
-
Sounds wonderful!! How was the show?
I liked Brian D'Arcy James - that man can sing anything! And I was able to catch up with Asa Somers after the show too. And the young actor playing the son has nice abs. ;)
As for the show itself, well... All I will say for now is that there is a lot of music.
-
DR Jane - Congratulations!!!!!
*Web cams are relatively cheap... Maybe you could send one to them as a gift. ;)
-
Muse Margaret called and enjoyed the new pages and likes where things are heading. She did have one problem, which we discussed, a sequence where a lot of information is reiterated - but because I'd done similar reiterations just before and just after, she got bored in that section - I went back and read it and boy was she right. She basically only had two things she thought I should take out, which I did, but as I read it, I just kept cutting, eventually taking out two pages, and just giving a precis of the info from the 3rd person narrator rather than in endless dialogue from the character. So what took five speeches, takes two sentences, and it's really much better. She couldn't talk anymore tonight, so I'll read her the redo when I get back from my breakfast meeting at around ten-thirty. I think she'll like it better - I was also able to inject some more humor into it, which is good. So, if she likes the cuts, then it's on to the finish line.
-
DR Jane, my time away from HHW was mostly uneventful, however yesterday was quite exciting!
I just started helping out with an organization called Checkpoint One Foundation which is run by a local soldier recently back from Iraq who has been working tirelessly to bring the interpreters that he worked with in Baghdad here to the US.....
You can read about his efforts here....
http://159.54.226.83/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071122/NEWS/711220333/1001 (http://159.54.226.83/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071122/NEWS/711220333/1001)
-
...............as some of you may recall, several months ago my brother Jeff and I had discussed the plight of Iraqi interpreters and how they and their families are targeted, and how the govt is doing nothing to assist. Shortly after that I found Jason's organization which he had just begun here in the Salem/ Portland area and had gotten one family to Salem, already. I donated some money and offered my services...well, last night we moved a second family into an apartment in Salem, right next door to the family that arrived last November.
It was great to meet both families...the Murad's have 3 kids age 3, 6 and 7 and the new family also have 3 children age 3, 13, and 14. I brought gift baskets of household items for the adults and each kid got a basket of age appropriate toys and CDs, plus I donated the 2 CD players that I had in the garage, which I was no longer using
This weeked I will take over my old TV and dvd player and some other items I no longer need and then soon I will probably take the new couple out to purchase needed items for their new hom.
It is very exciting and I am just so happy that Jason and his organization (which consists mostly of him and his wife) have succeeded in getting two families to safety...but gosh it is a convaluted and expensive process. There is another family of 4 stranded in Jordan who are running out of money and time...they can't return to Bagdahd and they are having troubles with the visa process because one of their names is a close match to the name on the terrorist list...so it is slowing the process to a crawl...and frankly, the US govt at this time has little if any interest in helping these people, regardless of the fact they have put their own lives on the line to help the U.S.
So that has been my main project of late...that and watching Bollywood movies.
DR MBarnum - I sold books and watched Bollywood movies in your absence.
I sure do hope DR JRand57 gets on Jeopardy!.
Well, you do know DR Rodzinski, costar of the straight to video movies WORLD OF THE WEREWOLF and ALIEN CONSPIRACY 2.
