Well, you've read the notes, you are current, you are happening, you are cooler than cool, so let's celebrate and post all the livelong day and night, shall we?

As I was saying... ;-)

(I really should have been in bed hours ago!)

So, after all of that, I decided I wanted, needed, deserved a nice dinner.  I called Steve, and invited him to dinner and he gladly accepted.  -I also wanted to Thank him for the two jumps starts and all the "chauffering" he did this week for me.

We walked over to Zeus Gallery Cafe.  Neat place.  Art on the walls for decor and for sale.  And some very good food.  One of the neat, quirky things about the place is that all the booths have little plaques that tell you the name of the booth: Phone Booth, John Wilkes Booth, Shirley Booth, etc.  We sat in the Phone Booth tonight.

All the menus (dinner and dessert) and wine lists are on chalkboards.  They even put the main dinner menu/chalkboard on your table while you decide.  Tonight's choices were very varied, and all of them sounded very good.  After a few minutes of going back and forth between all the choices, we decided to split and order of shrimp spring rolls, and Steve ordered the Shrimp Pasta, and I ordered the Veal Scallopine that came with a melange of vegetables that included chunks of merguez sausage.  -The waitress was surprised and impressed that I actually knew what merguez was, and that she didn't have to explain it to me.

The shrimp rolls came with a homemade hot(!) mustard and an apricot chutney.  Soooo good!  And our entrees were quite wonderful too, and just the right amount of food on the plates.  So, we had room for dessert!! - Key Lime Pie, and a Melting Chocolate Cake.  Needless to say, our forks were going back and forth between each other plates, and the only thing left on them was all the powdered sugar they used to decorate the plates. ;-)  Oh, and the wine... Quite a nice California Zinfandel - Four Vines.  It went down very easily - not as "strong" as a typical Zinfandel, very smooth, but, later.. whoa!  When we both started on our second glasses, we were both starting to warm up ;-)  And I had to stop half-way through my third glass...  -And the coffee with dessert also helped.

After the wonderful dinner, we headed back to Steve's and ended up watching TLC's Saturday night line up - While You Were Out, Trading Spaces, etc.  And I guess all the activity, the stress, the running around.. and the wine finally caught up with me... I ended up napping here and there.. well, we both did...  After the news, and the first ten minutes of the SNL rerun, I walked home.  The cold night air felt good.  And since it was midnight movie night at The Byrd Theatre, there were plenty of people still walking around Carytown.  -Tonight's midnight movie was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I almost stopped by the box office, but decided it was best just to keep on walking and get home.

So, here I am.

And I think I'll call it a night...  Thanks for listening, reading... Ain't therapy grand?  ;)

DR Jose, have you ever thought of starting an "Audition School"?  It sounds like that's one of the things a lot of these kids really need, someone to coach them on how to get that job!  And that's different from being a voice coach, or a dance coach, or an acting coach.  Heck, other professions have trainers who teach people how to interview for jobs, and it works!

I've never thought of a school, but I have had a book proposal proposed to me due to my work at some of the theatre conferences I play for - 900 people over three days!  I've had an outline outlined for about two years, but that's about it.  However, I may be progressing past the outline stage in the near future in some form or another.  So, we'll see...

OK... I really do need to get some sleep now.  I hope I haven't bored anyone with my "diary entries" today. ;)  Just felt like one of those days.

Happy Birthday, DR Kerry!!!

I ushered for the Dianne Reeves concert last night and let me say that she is in-freakin'-credible.  I had no idea what to expect.  I'd heard only one of her CDs (her tribute to Sarah Vaughan CD that has a version of "Send In the Clowns").  She can take an audience and hold them in the palm of her hand.  She's a true musician.  If you like improvisational vocal jazz like instrumental jazz (in other words, if you don't always need to hear the original melody all the way through a sung song), then you will love her!  One song she performed was called "Nine" (or "9") that she wrote and it's about being nine years old.  She wrote it in 7/4 time signature and it was not a slow song!  Overall, she gave one of the best concerts I've seen in a long time (although Tony Bennett last week was very good, also).

I brought along my brand new binoculars with a digital camera attached and it sort of worked.  If I had a tripod (if it were even possible to hook the binoculars to a tripod...which it's not), they would've been better.  Trying to hold it steady enough so that the pictures wouldn't come out blurry was impossible.  All of the pictures were blurry (but the binoculars themselves were otherwise very good).  Here is one of the better pictures:

I don't know if taking pictures during very light days will make much difference.  The "examples" on the installation disc are crystal clear...very misleading if you ask me.  I may try to take it back (even if I did cut it open because it's in plastic).

Here's her drummer...and don't worry, I won't post any more:

Happy day to Kerry and to Donald!

Watched a couple movies tonight on TCM that had been on my "yeah, I know I should see it, and I do plan on seeing it, but for whatever reason I haven't yet" list for quite sometime.
They were having an evening featuring Bernard Herrmann's scores, and I caught Psycho and Cape Fear.  The first was just what I expected it to be... a very pleasant viewing experience, but nothing extraordinary for my tastes.  Cape Fear, however, I found truly wonderful.  Still a very effective thriller, 42 years later, particularly in Robert Mitchum's performance.  So, there's a modern-day 24-year-old's take on those classics.

Happy birthdays, DRs Kerry and Donald! May your day be filled with much cake! Oreo cake, if possible.

Great audition story, Jose. It must be a lot like American Idol. I bet you are a master at keeping a straight face during bad performances.

I'm glad to hear that Roller and Archie are doing well. My own Roxie, however, did not fare so well. I had to have her euthanized on Thursday.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who likes SAILOR...SEA.
Been a fan of it since it was first released and it contains my favorite Sarah Miles performance.  Existentialism and Nietzcheism don't always work on screen, but, this time they work hand in hand to a gripping conclusion.  Mr. Slocombe's cinematography is luscious.  On a side note, the child actors, who are all quite impressive rarely made a film afterwards.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR Kerry and Broadway Radio Wizard Donald!!!

I haven't seen SAILOR. . . .SEA for many, many years, so I'll be looking forward to watching it again soon. I found it very disturbing all those years ago when I saw it. I'm not sure I was "grown up" enough for it even though, of course, I was an adult in age.

My friend John and I watched THE MATRIX RELOADED last night. A 2 hour 18 minute movie that could have been trimmed easily by thirty minutes if three overly-extended fight scenes had been cut WAY down. Yes, the special effects dazzle in these scenes, but that doesn't mean they don't wear out their welcome long before the end of the film. Also, as the film gets farily near the end, there is a LONG talking head sequence that brings the film to a grinding, crashing halt. The information imparted was important, but the scene is directed so turgidly that all the hyperkinetic action from the previous 1 3/4 hours makes this segment seem even more leaden than it probably was. I guess I'll rent THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS to finish up the trilogy story, but suffice to say this will not stand as one of the great film trilogies.

I'm glad DR PANNI got her green card - she is now anofficial part of the Invasion of the Magyars which has taekn place in Hollywood over the years,
First Adolph Zukor, then the Gabors, and then this "face-only-a-mother-could-love" screenwriter:

Not satisfied with penning soft-porn ("Basic Instincts") he has now written what could be called a "Magyar-a-Clef" about his Hollywood days.

An immigrant from Hungary, Eszterhas spent time in Austrian refugee camps when he was a child before his mother and father emigrated to the United States. After bouncing around from New York to Connecticut, the Eszterhas family landed in Cleveland, where Joe grew up a "foreigner" on the tough streets.

To those wanting a career as a Hollywood screenwriter, he has this to say:

"Don't spend all of your time in a movie theater looking at other movies. Live life to its fullest limit. Don't watch it on the screen because you'll end up writing scripts that imitate what's up there on the screen. Don't be afraid of life — live it fully. Make mistakes. Get hurt. Bad things might happen, but good things might happen too."

Goodness, Eszterhas channeling Mame!

The secret of "Fantasy" - "Realism"!

Extracts from the Associated Press (http://www.foxnews.com/printer_friendly_story/0,3566,110079,00.html):

'King' Could Be First Fantasy to Take Oscar Crown
Saturday, January 31, 2004

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.  — E.T. (search) could not do it. Neither could Luke Skywalker (search) or Dorothy Gale. Yet Frodo Baggins (search) and his hobbit, elf and wizard pals are on the verge of claiming Academy Awards respectability for the land of make-believe.

Fantastical tales have a long and dismal Oscar history, but "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King" (search) looks ready to change that, taking front-runner status for best picture with a leading 11 Oscar nominations.

With "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's epic Middle-earth adventure, director Peter Jackson has altered the face of fantasy. He crafted a world not only of dazzling visuals but also of heart, humor, three-dimensional characters and Shakespearean drama.

Jackson took Tolkien's highly literary text seriously, as have the fans who have shelled out $2.6 billion -- and counting -- worldwide
.
"Peter right from the beginning treated this as though he was making a historical drama. As though it was really based in reality," said Barrie Osborne, a producer on all three "Lord of the Rings" films. "That resonated through everything, the performances, the costumes, the armor. It's all real."

I shall be errant and truant the better part of today, Dear Readers, as I am heading down to San Diego to catch a performance of Puccini's Turandot.  Not only is Turandot one of my favorite operas, this production was designed by artist David Hockney, so I am anticipating a great treat for the eyes as well as the ears.

I'm actually curious about Eszterhas' book (along the way he lost the final "Z" of his name - it should really be Eszterhasz) and will read it at some point. He's written some decent films along with the clunkers - THE MUSIC BOX being one. At least, I found it interesting - as the same year it came out I had one come out in Canada with a very similar theme. Mine was called TWO MEN and starred John Vernon, Lila Kedrova and Jan Rubes. The other of his movies that I quite liked was TELLING LIES IN AMERICA.

Good morning!

Well... I finally got to bed around 4:30AM - ?!?!?  I can't believe I was so wide awake last night - after being so groggy - in a good way - after dinner (and the wine).  I guess the caffeine from the coffee we had with dessert kicked in.  Ah, well... Needless to say, I did not get up early today to head to brunch - I like going early before the crowd gets there, and before the place gets too smoky.  So, I think I'll head over around 1:30, and see what the crowd is like and grab a late brunch.  -I'm also still feeling full from last night's dinner, so I'm in no hurry right now to get some food in my stomach.

DR Jay - If I make it out to LA again later this year, can you take me to the Opera, to the Theatre, to the Movies and to the Cabaret?  I envy your cultural calendar.  -I'm still debating whether to head up to DC tomorrow night to catch a duo recital at the Kennedy Center that Renee Fleming and Susan Graham are presenting as part of the KenCen's Festival of France.  Although, I guess that will depend upon whether or not my car has been exorcised by tomorrow afternoon.

DR George - I've seen some good photos from the type of binoculars you have.  However, concert halls and concert hall lighting are never ideal places to take any type of picture unless you have some extra equipment.  A tripod would help, but for the "perfect" picture, you'd also have to ask your subject to stand very still - the zooming in makes the pics more prone to blurriness.  And I doubt Ms. Reeves - or any other performer - would have heeded that type of request. ;)

DR Danise - Enjoy your Diet Eve!  Any plans for a special meal and/or dessert... or desserts?  ;D

DR Jennifer - As for my "well" - Well, if I told you about it, then it would no longer be a secret.  :-X

And as for the Super Bowl today... Hmmm...  I know I'll be flipping over to HBO for "Sex and the City"... And will most likely check in on "Trading Spaces: Family"... And I will also probably check out the Paula Dean marathon on FoodTV - I can't remember who mentioned her counter-programming yesterday.  She's fun, but I will admit, some of her traditional Southern recipes are even too rich, too decadent for me at times!

No tale of Machiavellian treachery and intrigue, just IMDB incompetence.  I've given up on trying to correct things in my listing on that site. And the only "critique" they have of the film is a terrible one. The movie actually got a barrel of awards, both Canadian (Best of the TV-movie of the Year) and American.

Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cakes
Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 20 to 24 servings

8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, melted, plus 8 more tablespoons (1 stick) butter, melted, plus additional butter, for greasing pan
1 (18.25-ounce) package chocolate cake mix
1 egg, plus 2 eggs
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
3 to 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Lightly grease a 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick melted butter, and stir until well blended. Pat mixture into prepared pan and set aside.

In a stand mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining 2 eggs, and the cocoa powder. Lower the speed of the mixer, and add the powdered sugar. Continue beating until ingredients are well mixed. Slowly add the remaining 1 stick of melted butter, and the vanilla, continuing to beat the mixture until smooth. Stir in nuts with a rubber spatula. Spread filling over cake mixture in pan. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the cake; the center should still be a little gooey when finished baking. Let cake partially cool on a wire rack before cutting into pieces.

Shucks, just a little butter (then a little more butter), then some cocoa to go with the chocolate, and, oh yes, a box of sugar.

My problem with Paula Dean is that she uses packaged mixes for so many of her cakes.  I would think the results would vary greatly depending on which brand of mix she uses.

Of course, this always gives her the out if someone following her recipe has a terrible result, that they shouldn't have used "that" brand of mix.

Fie, I say.  Cooking from scratch is the best way to go!

You are definitely right about anyone standing still for a picture during a concert, but I was planning on trying it again outside when it's very bright out.  Hopefully that'll make all the difference...especially with the blurriness.

Today I'm ushering (yet again) for a local semi-professional production of The Rain Maker...or is it one word "Rainmaker"?  The company does good work and I've already heard good things about this show.  Otherwise, I have no interest in the StupidBowl...not even the commercials.

Good afternoon!

Well, brunch was... OK.  Which is/was OK.  For some reason when I got there, I wanted lunch/dinner and not brunch, so instead of getting the Cajun Hash I had "planned" on, I went for a small Greek Salad and an order of Kalamaria.  Both were good - and very generous portions - but I think I should have stuck with brunch.  I'll know better next time.

After brunch, I headed into Carytown and picked up a copy of the New York Times, as well as a bag of goodies from the chocolate shop.  -And I think I'll be eating my goodies for snacks and dinner. ;)

OH!!!  And I can just sense the anger brewing in the air in my neighborhood - THE CABLE IS OUT!!!  It went out at the restaurant, and mine is out right now, so I guess someone must have cut into a cable or something.  And the customer help line has been busy too, so...  At least the local CBS affiliate's tower is actually in view of my apartment, so I'm able to get a signal - as well as the NBC affiliate.  But I'll be popping some more CDs into my player and getting some stuff done around the apartment.  Game?  What game?

DR DerBrucer - Just reading the ingredient for that recipe gave me a headache - and stomach ache!  I'm a big fan of butter, but...  At least she listed butter and not butter or margarine.  And it's just a box of powdered sugar...  :-X

Good afternoon everyone!
Happy Birthday to those who are celebrating such things today

DR Laura, my thoughts are with you as well.  I've had to put down three dear pets in my lifetime, and all of them have had a profound impact on my life.  But they were the right course of action, hard as they were to do.

I shall be celebrating the Super Bowl by going to see a movie.  Probably Big Fish, which I've been wanting to see anyway.  I have no problem with football, and I will watch it, but not when it involves two teams I know little and care less about :)

Good heavens...now I'm craving something gooey and chocolatey.  Those cakes look divoon...

Oh yes, and welcome NR (new reader) Charlie Toft

Welcome to our new poster, DR Charlie!

I've had a movie marathon already today and will be headed downstairs for more momentarily. So far, the Sherlock Holmes mystery TERROR BY NIGHT in a beautifully restored print with all the scenes I remember intact. Then, the second half of MY FAIR LADY (had watched the first half a couple of weeks ago). Then, ROCKETSHIP X-M with the ever hunky Lloyd Bridges and hunk-in-the-wings Hugh O'Brian. Then, I put in the DVD of the Joan Hickson/Miss Marple NEMESIS, unquestionably my favorite of the BBC Miss Marples. This will be followed tonight by TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, "Sex & the City," and then guilty pleasure GREASE 2.

The joys of Super Bowl Sunday!

I spent the day shopping. Just got back.

Not sure how much of the Super Bowl I will watch. I do enjoy football. But we get the Canadian commercials (don't ask, it's infuriating). I could have watched with my sis. But I think I will just watch the ads on the net tomorrow. I LOVE superbowl ads. And not getting to wtach them live is a major bummer.

Re: DR Danise's comments about dieting. It's actually rewarding when it works. I actually really noticed the difference for the first time today. And supposedly if I keep up my Winsor Pilates, I will also have a dancer's body.

DR Jose: Enjoy Sex & The City. I am so anxious to know when Bravo Canada will start their season. I am trying so hard not to listen to any of the spoilers. Although i accidently watched a clip with Kim Cattral on one of the talk shows that gave much away.

I shall indeed be watching the Super Bowl this afternoon with a couple friends of mine.  Being a hopeless football fan, I simply can't imagine letting a year go by without watching it.  I know I've watched every one since I was 6 years old (Super Bowl XX, Bears over Patriots), and most likely was around a TV for a few before that.

Oh, DR SwishySarah, I'm afraid that just like in that first Super Bowl that I remember, your beloved Patriots are in for some pain today. :D

Good afternoon!  Again!

Well, someone is smiling down upon me... I have found my cell phone!  Well, I found where it is!  And who has it currently - the cabbie who picked me up early Friday morning.  Now we just have to make arrangements for me to pick it up or get it delivered to me.  Let's just say it pays to call, and call again when it comes to trying to get the answer you want - and deserve.  I wasn't exactly getting the run around from the cab company when I previously called them, I just seemed to be getting the wrong person on the line.  This afternoon, the dispatcher promptly called the cab driver, and Voila!  Mystery solved.

-Of course, right before I called the cab company again, I had just called Sprint to have the account suspended... guess I'll have to call them back now.  -And the customer service rep at Sprint could not have been nicer and more helpful.  Due to some of her of investigating, she was able to determine that my phone was still in the Richmond area.  Thank you GPS!  *Now, if I wanted to declare a police emergency, then she could have tracked it down the exact location, but I decided that my carelessness was not exactly and emergency.

OH!!  And this is kind of Twilight Zone-y - The cable system seems to be coming back up slowly but surely.  The big three networks are back up, but the cable channels keep going in and out every few seconds.  Well, I tuned into FoodTV, and what dish did Paula Deen happen to pulling out the oven?  Her heart attack in a cake pan!  Her Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cakes!  And her reaction when she took the first bite, "WOO!  HOO!" was kind of scary.  -And she did gild the lily with some whipped cream too!

-Well, now that phone has been found, let's hope that bodes well for my upcoming car repair...

Where do I know the name Alet Oury?  I know I've heard it someplace, but can't quite place it... or do I have to wait for the interview Tuesday to find out?

Since it is Super Bowl Sunday, I made homemade strawberry ice cream and will have a super bowl of it while watching anything but a football game.  I also have a leg of lamb in the slow cooker which will be ready soon.  The smell is already driving me crazy.

BK - My biggest problem with the movie version of ANNE FRANK is the fact that they cut the entire final scene from the play where the father returns to the attic after the war and you get a summary of what happened to everyone else.  Yes it's depressing, but important.  The family in the skylight is just so Hollywood!

I finally watched the Hugh Jackman OKLAHOMA!.  Other than the Tony Awards where he didn't impress me this is the first time I have seen him, and on the basis of this I think we will see BOY FROM OZ despite the fact that I really dislike Peter Allen.  However anyone who writes a song about Julie Wilson ("Quiet Please, There's a Lady Onstage" - no it wasn't originally written about Judy) can't be all bad.  The poorly-taped production of OKLAHOMA! was a mixed bag.  It did not need the dalogue added from"Green Grow the Lilacs".  The DVD is 3 hours meaning with an intermission it is 3¼ hours long.  Based on what I can remember of the deMille choreography, Stroman did a better "Kansas City" and "Farmer and the Cowman" but deMille's "Many a New Day" and dream ballet were far superior.  The costumes were excellent... most OKLAHOMA!s have clean pretty costumes but in  this production people looked like they were wearing real clothes.  I did not care for the set and much of the staging.  The title song sung on a (non-moving) turntable in front of a house with a slanted roof looked like Anatevka.  But the whole production was worth it for Maureen Lipman's Aunt Eller Murphy.  I know that she is a big star in England, but other then Ruth in the original London WONDERFUL TOWN, what else has she done and why hasn't she done anything in the Colonies?

OMG, that Josh Groban thing was so sad. I don't know if I could have watched him sing, if I was a player and had to play a game. I guess I will go watch now. Btw, I think the Patriots will walk away with it.

DR Jose: I am glad you found your cell. I actually meant to suggest that you CALL YOUR ACTUAL PHONE.  Then if it was on, you could find out who had it :)

Btw, why do I keep ordering from amazon? They've had an item I ordered in "preparing to ship" mode for 6 days, which makes no sense. Either it's not ready to ship, or they should ship it. And of course they are slightly clueless since it shows to them that it is in the process of being shipped. And they don't seem to understand when I tell them "but it's been preparing to ship for a whole week now" :)

Happy SuperBowl sunday everyone!

Just finished watching ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW. Very sad, sad film. Enjoyed seeing Kim Hamilton, and Harry Belefonte was certainly good. So was Ed Begley. I guess I was expecting it to have a nice happy ending, but alas that was not to happen.

DR William E. Lurie,  Not every British Actor feels compelled to have a Colonial career to be validated.  Maureen Lipman has had quite a prodigious career in England, covering scads of stage, film, and television.  You might remember her from a British TV show that got some PBS play many years back called AGONY.  She also played Julie Walters' room-mate in EDUCATING RITA.  I myself, besides seeing her Aunt Eller onstage, also caught her a few years back in a delightfulplay called, Peggy for You,about famed literary agent, Peggy Ramsay, written by one of her former clients.

Evening all.

Welcome to Charlie Toft!  Happy posting!

I didn't have such a good day today.  The toilet is acting funny.  It won't shut off when it fills.  I got it to stop but it's not fixed.

Then when I went out to do some grocery shopping and maybe buy something to fix the toilet I had a devil of time finding things that fit the diet.  No Laughing Cow cheeze.  No fresh salmon.  Yes, folks, I said salmon.   As in fish.  As in I was going to give it an honest try but I can't if the grocery store doesn't HAVE any.
Sigh.

Is it Friday yet?  It's going to be one of those weeks.

Is it just me or does it seem kind of weird that our society feels the need to pay tribute to tragedies (9/11, Columbia, God knows what else) at sports events?  Actually it's seems pretty darn disrespectful to treat anything like that as a warm up to a GAME.

New DR Charlie Toft - Welcome!

DR Jennifer - I've actually called my phone a few times, but I think I may have left the ringer off since I turn it off when I'm teaching - I was teaching the night before - and I usually forget to turn the ringer back on.  So.. -Boy does that sentence have tons of grammatical and tense errors!  -Or, if I did turn it back on, it could be that the person just didn't want to answer it.  In any case, I'm hoping I'll have it back by tomorrow afternoon - fingers and toes crossed.  But, as I mentioned earlier, I left my home phone number on my message, so if anyone really needs to reach me, they'll be able to.

DR Danise - Shopping on Sundays is always a tricky situation.  It's the end of the weekend, and what's usually left on the shelves and in the cases is everything that got passed over by all the Saturday shoppers.  Meat and fish cases can be particularly bare - as well as produce - especially lettuce.  *It's like the "rule" of not ordering seafood in a restaurant on Sundays since most places don't get fresh seafood delivered on Saturdays or Sundays.  (See Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential".)  I've always found Thursdays and Fridays to be the best grocery shopping days.  All the stores stock up for their traditional Saturday craziness on Thursdays and Fridays, so...  if you can plan your shopping - and eating - mid-week, it's worth the time and effort to make it to the grocery store at that time.  *If I'm really ahead of the game - and can't sleep, I'll head to a 24-hour place and shop at 2:00AM Friday morning!  -And my favorite grocery store, Ukrop's, is actually closed on Sundays, so... and they also don't sell alcoholic beverages.

-If you can't find Laughing Cow cheese, string cheese packs are a good substitute.  Or any other cheese that is pre-portioned.  There's also a few other companies that make individually wrapped cheese wedges and mini-wheels - I tend to find them in the deli case.

RE: Superbowl - Not watching... Which song did Josh Groban sing?

Charles---
Thanks for the Maureen Lippman update.  From the credits you gave it appears that she doesn't do only musicals.  I knew I vaguely remembered her from something and it was EDUCATING RITA.  I know she doesn't need to appear here to be validated, it's just that so many British stars do appear here at least once or twice (and vice versa) that I thought she might have done something here I was not familiar with.

Have a good evening all.  I guess I'm just a little tired tonight.  Think I'll make it an early night.

And Waterworld is no more.  Shrek 4D is a lot of fun as is the new Jummy Neutron ride. Universal in Orlando is really a souped up amusement park. It is nothing like Universal in LA (or Universal City). The best non-roller coaster rides are Spiderman (In 3D) and Men in Black (which is interactive) As for roller coasters The Hulk and Dueling Dragons are great.

I do hope we have a posting frenzy later after this silly Bowling.  I would hate to reach a new low on the first of a new month, that would just be heinous (heinous, do you hear me?).

I went to rehearsal.  I couldn't post from there.  I could however walk and talk and say my lines (almost off-book, one week til deadlin of being off-book) as well as digest information and format new thoughts on the character and motivations and what the scenes are really about. . .

I came back from rehearsal and did the grocery shopping.  couldn't post from the grocery store, but, i could buy fresh asparagus.

Got back from the store and did the daily nursing duties, couldn't post from there, either, but I could wrap a wad of xeroform and roll a roll of gauze as well as wrap an ace bandage, or three, as well if not better than any registered nurse.

Following the nursing came the dinner preparation and the dinner itself.  couldn't post from the kitchen table, but, i could wolf down two slices of meatloaf and one serving of tortellini. . .and the vanilla pound cake covered with berries (assorted) and whipped cream.

Then came the email.
So I popped a movie into the dvd player, and it was two hours and twenty-five minutes long, but lovely.
Did my assignment.

Came to HHW to post.

Thanks DR Michael Shayne for the Universal Pics.  They are bringing back many fond memories of my audition tour.  And I didn't realize you were staying "on campus" at the Royal Pacific.  Nice hotel, definitely built for the business and convention business, but still a nice hotel.  -It's just kind of funny that the really nice hotel on campus down there is the Hard Rock Hotel - oh, and the Portofino is quite nice too.  Were you able to catch the torch lighting ceremony around the pool?  And did they leave interesting "mints" on your pillow?  I got a few kitchen magnets, a lei, and a shell filled with potpourri.  Frankly, I would have preferred chocolates.  ;)  So, did you catch the Universal Monsters Live show?  ;)  Too bad they don't run the Spiderman Live show down there... it's trash, but fun trash.   And the "transformation" of Peter Parker is fun... and actually quite sexy.

Oh, good... It was a successful field goal!  Game over... Go Patriots!!!  -Remember, I was born in Boston.  Oh... Now it's time for the post-game show.. I guess they'll be going to 11:00EST...

There, there, Jed. It's OK. Just say it with me:

"Swishy, you were right. The Panthers lost and I am ashamed to have ever doubted the Patriots' ability to beat them shamelessly."

Don't you feel better?!

;) Just joshin' with ya.

Now I am not taking sides here, becuase as I said before, I didn't have any particular attatchment to either team...however, in defense of the Panthers, they put up a mighty good fight right up until the end.  It was a win for the Patriots, but the Panthers still did themselves proud!
Wow..I'm talking football..something must be wrong with me...

Let me tell you something else about the Panthers (have to defend my hometown team), two years ago they were 1-15 and last year they were 7-9. Do you know what a triumph it has been for them to have gotten TO the Super Bowl this year, and to have played like that against a team that has been to the Super Bowl often? Getting to the Super Bowl was the GREATEST victory this team could have achieved. Playing as closely as they did was icing on the cake. I am SO proud of them.

Would just like to reiterate that I have nothing against the Panthers, they did indeed play well, and no matter where you're from, if your team makes it to the Superbowl, you're obviously one of the best out there.

But Mommy, Jed started it!!!

I just heard from David Colton, founder of The Rondo Awards; he says that the winners will be announced on February 14th; that means that all you dear readers who haven't voted yet, still have time to make Richard Valley and BK's splendiforous JEEPERS CREEPERS the recipient of the Rondo Award for CD OF THE YEAR!

RE: Survivor All-Stars - Very interesting.  I don't envy any of them.  No fire.  No water.  Food - ???

RE: The Super Bowl - I missed the half-time show - and, thus missed the mishap between Justin Timberlake and Miss Janet Jackson.  I guess CBS will no longer plan any more surprise appearances at their half-time shows.

I also missed the winning field goal.  I had just tuned in and figured it wasn't going to go through the posts, so I changed the channel.  I was expecting the game to go into OT.  Oops, my bad.  -And DR MattH - Having worked with many Charlotte-ans ;-) I can understand your civic pride.  And having been down in Charlotte during a Panthers game, I have to say that the Panthers fans are some of the politest fans I've ever been around.

Well, I'm kind of beat... and want to get up early to take care of my car and my cell phone and my snail mail and my music files and my kitchen and my bedroom and my so on and so forth...

Goodnight (... for now at least)

OMG that was a GREAT football game.  I actually watched Trading Spaces Family and only started watching with about one minute left in the second half.  My sis then called and said that she won 25 dollars. Because her husband had 8 guy friends over to watch the game (their cable system gets the commercials) and they all pulled numbers (scores) out of a hat. So my sis had Pats winning with a 4, over Carolina 0. So they check the scores after each quarter. And since the halftime score was 14-10 (ending in 4 and 0) she won 25 bucks.

The funny thing was you keep the same numbers throughout the whole game. So since the score after the 3rd quarter was the same, she won another 25 bucks.

I knew she would call back. She and her hubby love the Pats and although she wanted them to score the touchdown (they were very close with seconds left in the 3rd). She was screaming at the tv for them to hold on 5 more seconds. And the guy who had the numbers 1-0 (it would have been 21-10) was screaming for them to score.  I knew they'd score at the beginning of the 4th :)

But wow, what a comeback.

But I was happy the Pats won. And happy Survivor was able to start.

DR Jose: YOU mean Justin pulling down Janet's shirt and exposing her breast was not planned? :)

Okay, I'm pretty sure Survivor was shown right after the Superbowl on all coasts. But if by some chance you did not see it, DO NOT READ THE REST OF MY POST.

I loved it. Even though it was what I expected, it was still so great to see all the past winners and contestants. And Colby has always been my favorite.

The most interesting part IMO, was how Rupert held all the cards. Ethan's offer to go with him and Tina was unexpected. And I think Ethan made a valid point. Everyone has seen how E and T play the game and  people see they can trust them. Ethan is strong. And in the end, nobody would vote for him. I sort of wonder how close Rupert was to aligning with them. I actually think that that is the route I would have taken.

For DR Laura,

I will hold a special thought and prayer for you tonight, in loving memory of Roxie.  I have to know that she is at a better place, feeling free of any discomfort, and I like to think romping and playing with Doris and Mazal.

My thoughts are with you.

Well, hopefully between now and midnight we'll have the eight measly posts it will take not to achieve a new low.

I just got back from Mr. Grant Geissman's house and I am happy to report we have begun work on the Kritzer Time CD, about which more in tomorrow's notes.  I'm fairly certain that it will be ready in time to ship with the book's ordered from this here website.

I only skimmed today's posts because I was in a bit of a rush, but I cannot believe I forgot to say 3 very important things:

1) Happy Birthday Donald!!!
2) Happy Birthday Kerry!!!
3) Laura, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing animals can be so painful.

And here's another post for Bruce, because a new low would be unSEEMly.

"It's a silly thing to think of, to dwell on at all. But when I'm alone, and I'm missing you, how I love to think of, and recall Chinese Food in bed..."

That happens to be the best line in the song, IMO.

Bonsoir.

Who needs football when there's great opera to be seen and heard?  Turandot was wonderful.  Fine singing, thoughtful direction and a gorgeous production.  Dear Reader der Brucer has already directed you to the San Diego Opera website, which offers some glimpses of the singers and the costumes and scenery.  Lot of red.  Chinese red, actually, which couldn't be more appropriate.  Obligatory stairways.  Exaggerated perspective, which added tremendous depth to the staging and reminded me of some of Mr. Hockney's "travelogue" paintings.  There was a bit of a cartoonish aspect to some of the sets, which also is quite appropriate, as there is a commedia del'arte element in several  scenes in the opera.

Mr. Hockney will be designing the sets for the L.A. Opera production this spring of Richard Strauss' Die Frau Ohne Schatten ("The Woman Without a Shadow") and no, she is of no relation to Peter Pan.  I am looking forward to seeing that.

Let me first say the "The Rainmaker/Rain Maker" was quite good.  The guy playing Starbuck was also good, but he had a tendency to "pose" for effect but overdid it, so the effect was lost.  Otherwise all of the actors were quite good.  The woman playing Lizzie was not plain, but she wasn't beautiful by contemporary standards.  She was attractive in the way that I think Meryl Streep is...if that makes sense.  The set was very good.  Harlequin's shows always have great sets.  It was quite touching and intimate.

And speaking of Making Rain DR George, February is the start of our school year and it is usually 110 In the Shade. It has been cool and raining here for days. I am sure the rain is not supposed to fall until after sundown. I must speak to Panni and see what is happening on nearby clouds. Wild parties in Heaven with something called a "Green Card" seem to be the major fun events of the week. Will someone take the time to turn off the rain tap. I can't reach it from here.

After the show, I went out to dinner with my parents, my sister, her boyfriend and my niece.  My sister's boyfriend paid.  Won't pass up free food!  We went to Applebee's and it was practically empty.  I wonder why! ::)  I had the chicken-fried chicken with mashed potatoes and instead of the mixed vegetables that usually come with it, I had extra mashed potatoes.  VERY good!  After dinner we all went to my parents' house for apple pie and some kind of Ben and Jerry's ice cream with pecans.  That was also very good!  Then I came home and now I've read the posts up to this moment and am having a mini-personal-posting frenzy.
