Well, you've read the notes, you've inhaled the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the Vick's Cows come home.

Still around:

Ingredients:

Active Ingredient (per inhaler) (Purpose)
Levmetamfetamine 50 mg (Nasal decongestant)

Inactive Ingredients:
Bornyl acetate, camphor, lavender oil, menthol, methyl salicylate

Note:

Levomethamphetamine (other names: l-desoxyephedrine, l-methamphetamine, levmetamfetamine ) is the l- stereoisomer of methamphetamine, a sympathomimetic vasoconstrictor which is the active ingredient used in some over-the-counter nasal decongestants. The common brand-name for levmetamfetamine in the U.S. is the Vicks Inhaler. In the U.S., the name was converted to levmetamfetamine from levo-methamphetamine to lower the risk of abuse of the decongestant preparation.

(Note: my guess is that the "active ingredient" had been added since the 60's)

Super Tuesday:

Mc Cain took Delaware
Mc Cain took California (and current results suggest he swept most of the delegates)

My February work is done.

der Brucer

(Of course if Mc Cain decides to add Huckabee to the ticket I might have to consider moving to Canada!)

(I would hope that in this era of change at the beginning of a new century the Republican Party can come up with a ticket that is not two anglo-saxon men).

A thought:

Linda Lingle - Republican Governor of Hawaii - pro-Choice and Jewish!

(Wouldn't that give Ann Coulter a coronary!)

I had to buy a Vicks Inhaler for my father last month.  They cost almost six dollars.

It is very rainy here - still yet.

On Monday, my 22 year old neighbor Evan was in an auto accident.  He is an EMT and they were returning from driving a patient to the hospital.  An SUV crossed the center line and hit the ambulance head on.  Both drivers were killed.  Evan is usually the driver, but his Chief took the wheel for some reason for this trek....

Very sad.

Good morning, all!

DR JRand57, I am so sorry to hear about your neighbor.  Is he is hospital?

DR Jose, break a leg today.  Remember: if you couldn't have done the job, they would have asked someone else; there's always someone in this City who thinks they can do it better than you. In most cases, they're misinformed.

I'm waiting for 9 am to call my barber to see if I can get myself shorn this morning.  Then, a trek to Toyland to pick up a few "Lady of the Slipper" scores, and after that, a meeting with my attorney to sign the new will.

I need some money: I need to buy a new box springs for the bed, another filing cabinet, and a couple of pillows.  I hope my last invoice gets paid today.  I'm waiting for the Karen Mason job to move into first gear, and I wish the cabaret singer who sent me the email two weeks ago about owing me a third of her bill would simply put the damned check into the post.

I love my new storage tubs and I'm looking forward to the new bed frame; I want to put it together and move it about the apartment till the apartment's geography seems logical.

Interesting article from Michael Riedel about

Randy Quaid (http://www.nypost.com/seven/02062008/entertainment/theater/union_bans__fines_quaid_779144.htm)

Seems he has been disciplined for his behavior during the out-of-town tryout of Lone Star Love (which closed in Seattle). Looks like the entire cast found his behavior "less than professional"

RE: the mystery of the missing magazine.

In early December, I went to get the Christmas list that I keep during the year of DVDs I want but haven't bought for myself to furnish to those friends who ask for a Christmas list. I keep the list on the left side of my desk all year long, and it's always in easy reach to add to each week that something comes out I'd like but don't love enough to get for myself.

Anyway, a day or two before I went to get it, I saw it on the desk right where it always is (under a paperweight, no less). The day I reached over to get it, it was not there. It was not on the desk anywhere; it was not on the floor; it was NOWHERE to be found.

Believe me, it gave me the CREEPS for it to just be gone. There was really no reason that it wasn't where it ALWAYS is. And I had to plunder the depths of my brain to come up with some titles I could remember were on the list, but I didn't remember them all.

Out of curiosity, DR JoseSPiano - do you find playing dance auditions to be easier or harder than singing auditions?  Or just different?

They're different.  Although, I sort of prefer them just from the standpoint that there's no pressure on me.  Well, less pressure on me.  As long as I keep a steady beat, that's really all that matters.  (Sort of.)  Additionally, I make a game out of all the repetition, especially if I'm playing a particularly "orchestral" score.  I'll try to play more or less notes on each pass.  I'll try to bring out the flute here, the horn line there, etc.  It keeps my mind active.  -When I played the "American in Paris" auditions a few weeks ago, I had a blast trying to make the piano sound like car-horns during the opening section.  Truly fun!

At the very least, it's always fun to watch.  :)

Just perusing the list of DVDs to be released next week:

In addition to the LUBITSCH MUSICALS which JMK and I have been discussing, there's volume four of the CHARLIE CHAN COLLECTION. These, of course, begin Sidney Toler's reign as Chan, and these four are among the best of the ones he eventually did. Looking forward to seeing them again. (Maybe there will be some Dr. Drew Casper insights contained in the box.)

Also, the second volume of JOAN CRAWFORD COLLECTION comes out. Along with some good films (A WOMAN'S FACE), the box contains two of her most outrageous melodramas: FLAMINGO ROAD and the infamous TORCH SONG. Can't wait!

...And I'm back...

And I have yet to play a note.  (Besides my own practicing.)

The choreographer is "type-ing out" this morning, but he's actually "tapping out".  Instead of the usual process where they line people up, then say "stay" or "go" based on their looks, he has taught a short tap combination - basically two counts of 8.  Each person comes forward, gives their name and where they're from - a chance to see their personality - and then they do the tap combination.  By themself!  Can you say Pressure?!?!? -Which reminds me of those "piano scale exams" I used to take when I was in high school.

Shuffle hop back 2-3
Shuffle hop back 2-3

Hey DR der Brucer ~

After watching some of the primary stuff last night -- and all the info on the polling places, ordering extra paper ballots in case the machines broke down, etc., etc. I had a question for you:

Who pays for these primary delegate elections?

If the Demo Party pays all the bills for their primary delegate elections and the GOP pays all the bills for their primary delegate elections, then I concede that your point should win -- it's their gala event, so they should decide who gets to attend.

BUT, if the government (courtesy of tax payer dollars) is picking up the tab for all of this, then I think it is wrong (probably illegal) to exclude some of those taxpayers (i.e. Independents) from the process.

Considering my penchant for missing posts lately, someone has probably already posted this, but here's a great Sweeney parody that was linked from Castrecl:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk4i7OKWSJw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk4i7OKWSJw)

I have a nice Vick's Inhaler story--I needed one a few years ago and went to Rite-Aid which told me they weren't making them anymore.  I found an old one I had which had an 800 number on it (for those inhalation emergencies, I guess).  I called them, asked if they had been discontinued, and they said no, asked for my name and address, etc.  They sent me not only a sheaf of coupons for money off, they also sent me about 10 inhalers!  I love me my Vick's Inhalers.

My mother used to slather me with regular Vick's when I had bronchial infections as a child, which was pretty often.  I still remember the hideous feeling of my pajama tops stuck to my chest.   :P

This may be sacrilege, but I just don't "get" Jeanette MacDonald.  Sorry.  The Love Parade was her first film and she's OK in it, not great.  She improves greatly in the other two she's in in these films.  I go into (probably too much) detail in my review about what each has to offer, but aside from Lieutenant I wouldn't put them at the top of Lubitsch's output.  That said, they're invaluable historical documents of the development of the film musical.  Just my 2 cents.

Oh, he is sweet boy! He is a German Shephard mix, maybe collie. He is just so mild mannered and well behaved and gentle. The kids in my family all just adore him and the adults always wonder why my dog behaves so much better then their dog.

He was running loose in Clackamas county and someone there found him and took him in while trying to search for his owners. After two weeks and no luck finding who he belonged to they had to bring him to the Humane Society as they could not keep a dog where they lived. My guess is that he was abandonded...maybe his owner died and the family didn't want to deal with a dog and figured if they dropped him off in some neighborhood he would find a home. That is the only thing I can figure, because surely if he was just lost someone would have claimed him.

2 years, on my way home from the gym, I stopped off at the Humane Society, as I often do just to look around, and I spotted Bosco amongst the other rag tag and rowdy dogs. He was the only one not barking and jumping around. I then went to look at the bunnies and cats and couldn't get this dog off my mind...so I asked to visit with him and then I put a $10 hold on him and gave it a good thought over night and then decided to get him the next day.

When I originally went in to the pound that day I had no intention of getting a dog, or any animal for that matter...but, well, I am sure glad I changed my mind! In all of my life I have never made a better purchase.

OTOH, you get to vote in your primary, and thus get what "you" paid for in this part of "the process."  The conventions are funded by the parties, IIRC, and state versions thereof.  That means that Indiana (or, insert your own state here) Republicans pay for their delegates (elected by the taxpayers) to go to convention where the national Republican party pays for "the party".

DR MBarnum - we had a very similar experience when getting Zach from the pound.  He was the only dog there that was calm, while all the others were going crazy.  It was only after we had him for a few days that we discovered he had been fully trained, including obeying hand signals.  How these pets end up in the pound is a mystery.

This in from "The Digital Bits":

"In a press event at the Ross Theatre on the studio backlot last night, Warner Home Video unveiled their plans for the studio's 2008 DVD and Blu-ray Disc release slate, celebrating the Warner's 85th Anniversary. On hand was WHV president Ron Sanders, along with Jeff Baker, George Feltenstein, Ronnee Sass, Tom Lucas and others executives, as well as special guests like actor Warren Beatty, director McG, Nancy Sinatra and other members of the Sinatra family.

"The slate itself is broken up into NINE different promotions: Oscars, Gangsters, Sinatra, Dirty Harry, 85 Years of Superheroes, Westerns, Musicals, Horror and Holiday. Warner revealed that Best Buy and Amazon are set to be the studio's official retail partners for these promotions.

"Starting in the 1st Quarter you'll see the Oscar and Gangster promotions, which will include the Bonnie and Clyde: Ultimate Collector's Edition (available on DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD) and the Bonnie and Clyde: Special Edition, along with such titles as the Goodfellas: Special Edition, the Heat: Special Edition, the Once Upon a Time in America: Special Edition, the Departed, the True Romance: Special Edition, the Film Noir Classics Collection: Volumes 1-4, the Warner Bros. Tough Guys Collection and the Warner Gangsters Collection (featuring titles like Public Enemy, Little Caesar, etc).

"The Sinatra and Dirty Harry promotions will debut in the 2nd Quarter. Sinatra will include the Sinatra mini-series, along with Frank Sinatra: The Early Years Collection ([/b]Double Dynamite, It Happened in Brooklyn, Step Lively, Higher and Higher[/b]and The Kissing Bandit), Frank Sinatra: The Golden Years Collection (Marriage on the Rocks, None But the Brave, Some Came Running, Man with the Golden Arm and [b/The Tender Trap[/b]), The Frank Sinatra & Gene Kelly Collection (On the Town, Take Me Out to the Ball Game &Anchors Aweigh), and The Rat Pack: Ultimate Collector's Edition (Ocean's 11, Robin and the 7 Hoods, 4 for Texas & Sergeants 3, along with a booklet, poster art cards, "first-run" stamps, and a music CD). The Dirty Harry promotion will include the Dirty Harry: 2-Disc Special Edition, the Magnum Force: Deluxe Edition, The Enforcer: Deluxe Edition, the Sudden Impact: Deluxe Edition and the Dead Pool: Deluxe Edition. All five films will also be included in a Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set, which will also feature the Clint Eastwood: Out of the Shadows bonus disc.

"The 3rd Quarter will offer Superhero fans something exciting: a Batman Begins: Limited Collector's Edition Gift Set, as well as a Batman Anthology box set on Blu-ray Disc. These are obviously timed to coincide with the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight. Additional superhero releases are TBA. The 3rd Quarter will also offer several Western releases, including a How the West Was Won: Ultimate Collector's Edition and a How the West Was Won: Special Edition, along with such titles as The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, The Cowboys, an Errol Flynn Westerns Collection and a Western Classics Collection. Finally, the 3rd Quarter will see a Music promotion featuring new special editions of An American in Paris and Gigi, as well as the debut of the Classic Musicals from the Dream Factory: Volume 3 box set, featuring Hit the Deck, Kismet, Deep in My Heart, Broadway Melody of 1936/Broadway Melody of 1938, Born to Dance/Lady Be Good & Nancy Goes to Rio/Two Weeks with Love.

"Rounding out 2008, the 4th Quarter will see the debut of a new DVD Horror collection with titles featuring Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and others, as well as more horror releases from Val Lewton and Joel Silver, re-promotion of Kubrick's The Shining and a number of new Raw Feed direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray titles, including Otis: Uncut. The 4th Quarter will also see a Warner Bros. Holiday Collection and A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition.

"As part of the year's overall slate, more than 50 new-to-DVD feature films will be restored and released from the Warner catalog alone, including such titles as All This and Heaven Too, The Beast with Five Fingers, Black Legion, Brother Orchid, Deception, Flamingo Road, Gold Diggers of 1937, Inside Daisy Clover, Kid Galahad, Lady Killer, The Mayor of Hell, Night Nurse, None But the Brave, Pete Kelly's Blues, San Antonio, Thank Your Lucky Stars, Three on a March, Virginia City and Watch on the Rhine.

Other titles set to be given special edition treatment this year are Cool Hand Luke, Gypsy, Risky Business, Splendor in the Grass and others yet to be announced. Additional thematic box sets will be drawn from Warner's classic MGM and RKO collections. It was also revealed that a collection of Natalie Woods titles is in the works.

Several special events will be held throughout the course of the year, including an August 31st Warner Big Picture night at the Hollywood Bowl, celebrating the studio's musical legacy. The highlight of the year's events will be the broadcast and DVD release of Richard Schickel's 5-part documentary You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story on the history of the studio, narrated by Clint Eastwood. The broadcast version will debut as a 3-part special in September, as part of PBS's American Masters series. As part of last night's event, Schickel gave the media a 10-minute sneak peek at a portion of his documentary series examining Warner films in the context of World War II.

The studio also revealed during the event that last year's Blade Runner: Ultimate Collector's Edition and Harry Potter: Ultimate Collector's Edition were tremendously successful releases, generating more than $20 million in combined sales in the 45-day period over the holidays.

"In terms of new titles in the year ahead, you can obviously look forward to the DVD and Blu-ray debut of such theatrical release films as The Dark Knight, Speed Racer, Get Smart, Where the Wild Things Are, 10,000 B.C. and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price, later in 2008 and early 2009.

"Finally, studio reps revealed that The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Woodstock and North by Northwest are all soon going on moratorium until 2009, when each of them will reappear in day and date DVD and Blu-ray releases, with complete high-definition restorations to celebrate their own individual anniversaries."

We feel the same way about BeeGee, our "rescue" dog, who is without a doubt the sweetest, most "personality"-ful (is that a word?  well it should be!) dog we've ever had.  We're assuming a student got him as a puppy and then abandoned him at the end of the school year.  Adding to the mystery is that he was apparently shot somewhere along the line--there's a pellet lodged in his chest region.   :(

Since Saturday/Sunday one of the screws in my ankle has been quite sore.  I have attributed it to the weather we've had.  I've been walking around like a 90 year year old saying, "Oy" about every 10 seconds.  The problem is now that I have been over- compensating  since then while laying  and sitting down and have a muscle cramp on the other side.  The muscle spasms are going away, but I sure hope I don't have to be re-screwed.... in the ankle.  (Jose, Singdaw, TCB:  no comments are necessary)   ;)

Additionallly, since I don't have a lot of a hair to work with I gave myself a haircut.  And guess what?!!  It looks like I gave myself a haircut.  Not to mention  that I forgot to put the guard on the shaver, so it's a really short home haircut!    Luckily no one really looks at me anyway (luckily in this particularr instance at least).  The haircut is as successful and fashionable as a Toni Home Permanent my mother gave my sister when she was little.   :P

Well, the thing to remember about lard is that is a truly natural product, and minimally processed - and some much "better" for than the "fake lard", Crisco.  So... You don't need to knead much of it into the dough, so...

The official toxicology results have been issued and Heath Ledger's death has been ruled "accidental".  He was talking a hell of a lot of drugs, all of which were in his system, but none -- officially -- at an "abusive" dosage.  It was the combination that killed him.

For a really good article on Ledger and what drove him to need prescription drugs, I offer THIS London Times (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article3255897.ece) feature story.

Crisco is truly a frightening product... I'm not much for baking, but on the rare occasions that I need to make a pie crust, I always use butter (or, if I must, margarine). The Lovely Wife(tm) uses Crisco, and I simply find the stuff repulsive. Lard, unfortunately, is simply not an option for a religious Member of the Tribe...

I have a pound cake recipe given to me by my Aunt Francis (may she RIP), that she called "The Pulliam Pound Cake".

Among its many ingredients, she listed a cup and a half of lard but, she notated, I may use Crisco instead.

She then finished the recipe by saying that she used lard from a neighbor who raised hogs, her own hens' fresh eggs and her own freshly churned butter and milk from my Uncle Graham's cows, but she reckoned my store-bought would make a fine cake, too.

Just for a change of pace:  I've today ordered the first two seasons of the ridiculous, off-the-wall, hilarious TV comedy "Perfect Strangers" starring Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn-Baker.  I'm doing the "dance of joy" in my head at the prospect of it!

Very sad.

So...

Here at Ripley-Grier Studios, they have two computer stations set up in their new-ish café area - Butch's Oasis Café.  Well... I was just walking by the computers a few minutes ago after purchasing an iced tea. There was a gentleman(?) at one of the computers.  This gentleman(?) also happens to be one of my "favorites".  Well... When I looked over at him, and at the computer screen, well... Let's just say he was browsing one of those "special interest social networking" websites.  *And with four major chorus/dance calls going on today here, there are a LOT of people walking around.  Including some casting directors and stage directors.

Hey DR der Brucer ~
Who pays for these primary delegate elections?

BUT, if the government (courtesy of tax payer dollars) is picking up the tab for all of this, then I think it is wrong (probably illegal) to exclude some of those taxpayers (i.e. Independents) from the process.

A. Tax funds are used to run elections.

B. "Independents" are not excluded from the process; if they want to vote in the Democrat party primary, they are welcome to do so (but need to know how to ask). If they want to vote in the Republican Primary, they need to plan ahead a few weeks and register (they can switch registration back after the vote if they so choose.

The above system is one that the people's elected representatives established by law.

OH! OH! OH!

My lunch break turned out to be not much a lunch break for me.  The casting agency asked me if I could hop over to another studio on the same floor, and play an audition for another project.  Well... As a result of doing that, I was then requested to come back tomorrow morning at 9:30 to play the final audition for the singer they heard this afternoon.  The singer requested me - and I had just met her - and the director requested me.  *And I'll be done by 9:45, so then I can grab a cab and race over to LaGuardia for my flight to Memphis.  In any case...

The director I played for today was someone quite famous, and the music director I will be playing for tomorrow is most definitely someone quite famous and "to be honored"... and feared.  So...

When we lived in Colorado (when I was between 7 and 10 years old), we found a stray cat and named him Spot (he was mostly white with three heart-shaped spots on his back).  Quite a few years after we moved here to Washington, he got sick and my parents took him to the vet.  They did X-rays and found five BBs in his body!  And since they couldn't find any entrance wounds, they figured that they had to have been there for many years...even before we found him.  He lived a good, long life with us. :)

A truck driver was driving along on the freeway.

He sees a sign that reads, "Low Bridge Ahead".

Before he knows it, however, the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge.

Cars get backed up for miles.

Finally, a police car arrived.

The officer got out of his car and walked to the truck driver, put his hands on his hips and said, "Got stuck, huh?"

The truck driver replied, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."

(And the best of the six "Best Smart-Ass Remarks of 2007"):

A college teacher reminded her class of the next day's final exam.

"Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury, illness, or a death in your immediate family, but that's it! No other excuses, whatsoever!"

A guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?"

The entire class was reduced to laughter and snickering.

When silence was restored, the teacher smiled at the student, shook her head and sweetly said:

"Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand."

Then, I watched BECOMING JANE. It's a lovely film, filled with details that it's obvious the screenwriters have taken from the various books to give the film credence. Cast is wonderful. Maggie Smith has a small part that she milks for all it's worth. Julie Walters is also good as Jane's mother. Anne Hathaway sounded like she'd been studying Emma Thompson in SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. Her accent and manner seemed very similar.

Then, I began exploring the various bonus features on the Blu-ray disc. There are 13 deleted scenes, none vital to the film. (In the commentary, the director stated the first cut of the movie ran 3 hours. The movie now runs 2 hours, so they cut a lot more than they put in the deleted section.)

There's a "making of" documentary that runs about 18 minutes. Not much depth, but it's good to meet a lot of key personnel connected to the movie.

I began the film again with two extra things turned on - a footnote and annotation feature where pop-up information rises up at appropriate times. And I had the commentary track on which is VERY low-key (dare I say a trifle dull) where the writer, producer, and director talk SO SLOWLY and SO QUIETLY that I found it hard to pay much attention to what they were saying. The annotations were a lot for interesting than their comments.

I got about 30 minutes of the film rewatched with this feature. I'll complete it when I go back down.

DR JMK, in re Jeanette MacDonald.

I'll never forget an article in Stereo Review probably 40 years ago. It was on the release of a MacDonald-Eddy collection of their hits recorded in the 1930s.

Anyway, the title of the review was "Is It Possible That Two American Musical Icons Couldn't Actually Sing?" The writer did not think either of them was very good.

I get the impression the screenwriters were working from the Austen family and Jane Austen letters that Cassandra didn't destroy.

Yes, it's mentioned in the commentary, but they also embellished things here and there throughout the film based on characters and events from the novels.

I'm not a dog person (I like them, but I wouldn't want one on my own), but I work with A LOT of dog people.  This is a very sweet story and I know a couple of people who have gotten their dogs this same way. :)

You recently remembered doing a Marcus Welby MD episode and was curious if you remember how you got it? I thought at that time guest star roles usually went to a member of their rep company. Which is why you usually saw the same actors over and over again in Universal produced tv and film productions.

Also any other info that might help me track down which episode it was? (eg other guest stars)

It wasn't a guest star part - I'd already done a few shows for Universal and they liked me - they just offered me the part - one scene I think - and I took it because the scene was with Robert Young.  I virtually remember nothing about it, other than Mr. Young wrote me a very sweet note after.

Interesting article from Michael Riedel about

Randy Quaid (http://www.nypost.com/seven/02062008/entertainment/theater/union_bans__fines_quaid_779144.htm)

Seems he has been disciplined for his behavior during the out-of-town tryout of Lone Star Love (which closed in Seattle). Looks like the entire cast found his behavior "less than professional"

That was certainly the word on the street in Seattle.

Thanks to everyone who asked about Evan my neighbor.  Sorry I haven't been around today to acknowledge the comments.

Evan is home and not in the hospital.  Interesting question, DR JANE, I don't think they have airbags in those vehicles which are more like SUV's than ambulances....the EMT jeep type things.

News reports now say that the 45 year old man driving the SUV crossed a double yellow line.  The EMT Captain (a 17 year veteran) had taken the wheel even though Evan had always driven before.  He swerved the vehicle and the driver's side took the heaviest hit.

Evan was conscious and had only minor injuries.  He took his own pulse, and was taking the pulse of his co-worker, when the Captain died.  Evan got out of the vehicle, called the police on his cell phone, and set up the perimeter with yellow tape....he didn't really collapse until the another Emergency vehicle arrived.  He spent Monday night in the hospital - and will attend the funeral on Saturday in a new Dress Uniform.

My sister and I went over awhile ago to talk to him and his Mom and sister.  When we asked them if they wanted anything, Evan said he would like a Heath Bar Blizzard from Dairy Queen....so we went to get one for everybody.

Life is precious and tenuous.

I read through today's pages, fixed a few things, and I'll look at them one more time before printing out later.

I think I shall go celebrate having finished a novel.

Miss Allison Hayes and Mr Sy Devore were quite the twosome spending many evenings dining at the Sportmans Lodge - of course she also dined there with Bobby Gordon.

To Hell with your ankle, Kerry; we need to get you some happy pills.

Who is David Hobsen?

Australian tenor. He was Rudolfo in Baz Luhrmann's original 1950s staging of LA BOHEME. He was in the American premiere of Conrad Susa's opera LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES at San Francisco Opera.

I suspect there will be a few more clips coming donw the pipes. I think Shirley did a pretty believeable job with the IRish accent... FAr better than Julia Roberts' attempts in MARY REILLY and MICHAEL COLLINS
BTW, there are some comments I do not agree with especially few who say that there is some brilliant acting by a few people.

Lard, lard, lard
That woman is me!

Is anybody planning on watching the new BIG BROTHER   starting on Tuesday?

Apparently the twist this year is that each person in the house had to undergo some type of testing. And they are being paired with their "soulmate". They will have to sleep in the same bed as this soulmate, win HOH together, do everything together and i think even be evicted together.

There is one gay couple. And i think 16 people total.

I began my evening by finishing BECOMING JANE listening to the audio commentary and reading the pop-up annotations and notes. Good Evening!

I'm back from Applause... It was a final dress, so I will refrain from any type of "review".  However, I will say that an announcement was made right before the show started that Ms. Ebersole had been stricken with the flu since last Saturday.  Today was her first day back in rehearsal, however, she was still under the weather.  But she went on tonight.  -As Jack Viertel noted, if The Metropolitan Opera can make such announcements, well...  In any case...  I'm sure the chat boards will be hopping tonight.  And probably through the weekend.

DR elmore - Both John and Karen send their best.

I went ahead and started a load of laundry, mainly because I did not want to come back home to a full laundry basket Monday night, so...  And I will starting packing soon.  I think.  I hope.  *I'm really just tempted to wake up at 6:00 tomorrow morning, and take care of packing and cleaning before I leave for the airport a little after 9:00.

What class!  :)  I'll consider the event postponed & you will have a chance in the near future.

Thanks, Jane.

I really have to say, that I really needed today.  Yesterday was one of those very rare days when I just wanted to get out of the biz.  Today, I was reminded just why I love I what I do, and why I want to continue doing it.

I am convinced the animals pick us, we don't pick them

Der Brucer- about Ron Paul, I was *9* in 1988.

And now I've just made a lot of people here feel particularly old, I bet.

I was defending those charged with crimes in Phoenix in 1988..

TCB, a mechanical is the per-song per-copy fee you pay to record someone else's material.  I did get an answer from Harry Fox (the company that handles it): 9.1 cents per song per copy (if the song is under 5 minutes).  So if you have 1000 CDs pressed, that's $91.00 per song.

OMG, did I actually just hear the line "It's up to America to decide who can not be made into a supermodel" - I mean, doesn't America have enough responsibility already?

Is anybody planning on watching the new BIG BROTHER   starting on Tuesday?

Apparently the twist this year is that each person in the house had to undergo some type of testing. And they are being paired with their "soulmate". They will have to sleep in the same bed as this soulmate, win HOH together, do everything together and i think even be evicted together.

There is one gay couple. And i think 16 people total.

As always, I will be watching BIG BROTHER...but I will have to tape the first weeks episodes and watch when I return from vacation.

Well, I think I am going to go ahead and just get ready for bed now, and wake up at 6:00 and finish packing for my trip. -I've sort of been getting up early anyway the past couple of nights due to street noises, car alarms, and whoever lives on the third floor stomping down the stairs and slamming the front door to get to work in the morning...  Well, I guess I should at least set aside my clothes before going to bed.

No, that's completely inaccurate - I hope THEY didn't tell you that!  You only pay a mechanical on CDs SOLD not pressed.  If you press 1000 CDs and sell 100 of them, then the mechanical is $9 and change.  And when the HELL did the mechanical jump from 6.5 cents to over 9???

Australian tenor. He was Rudolfo in Baz Luhrmann's original 1950s staging of LA BOHEME. He was in the American premiere of Conrad Susa's opera LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES at San Francisco Opera.

That's more like his 1990s staging of "La Boheme."  Luhrmann was born in 1962.  Hobson was born in 1960.  The DVD of the Sydney Opera presentation of "La Boheme" (re-realized and brought to Broadway several years ago) is from the 1993 Australian TV broadcast.

I suspect Shirley MacLaine could offer Larry some defense.

Today is the first day that the outbreak on my arm has looked like it is starting to heal.  Most of the infection looks like it is going away.  The wound itself is still pretty disgusting, but I am feeling positive that I may be near the end of the first outbreak.

Great news!!

I asst. MD'd that show in 2007 - I hope you like it, it was tons of fun to put together!

I enjoyed it very much...but it is a weird little show.  Like BK is always saying, a show (review-types) have to have a point, and I'm not sure what the point was. ::) Otherwise, great music, fabulous women (I knew four out of the six) and it was funny. :)

The word on Applause on the chat board was that it was one of the worst Encores! shows ever, if not the worst.  And not because of Miss Ebersole, but because (mostly) of Miss Kathleen Marshall.  This woman was barely a choreographer, let alone a director.
