Don't have a favorite Valentine's day-there was a traumatic one in 2nd grade when my huge valentine to a Miss anonoymous was falsely claimed by another 2nd grader. The only thing that has made up for this in years hence, was learning the song MY FUNNY VALENTINE, 1st on an album my godmother gave me, Mary Martin Sings Richard Rodgers plays, and other  recordings by Eileen Farrell, babs, and a 2nd by Miss M. Those have all consoled me for my 2nd grade trauma.

Since it was named after a saint and being of the jewish faith I was not allowed to do anything. As I grew up I didn't really care about as it has become another commercial day

HISTORY
There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.

COMMERCIALIZATION
Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. There was often a social gathering or a ball.

In the United States, Miss Esther Howland is given credit for sending the first valentine cards. Commercial valentines were introduced in the 1800's and now the date is very commercialised. The town of Loveland, Colorado, does a large post office business around February 14. The spirit of good continues as valentines are sent out with sentimental verses and children exchange valentine cards at school

OTHER COUNTRIES
In Wales many people celebrate Dydd Santes Dwynwen (St Dwynwen's Day) on 25 January instead of or as well as St Valentine's Day. The day commemorates St Dwynwen, the patron saint of Welsh lovers.

In France, a traditionally Catholic country, Valentine's Day is known simply as "Saint Valentin", and is celebrated in much the same way as other western countries.

In Denmark & Norway Valentine's Day (14 Feb) is known as Valentinsdag. It is not celebrated to a large extent, but a lot people take time to eat a romantic dinner with their partner, to send a card to a secret love or give a red rose to their loved one. In Sweden it is called Alla hjärtans dag ("All Hearts' Day") and was launched in the 1960s by the flower industry's commercial interests, and due to influence of American culture. It is not an official holiday, but its celebration is recognized and sales of cosmetics and flowers for this holiday are only bested by those for Mother's Day.

In Finland, Valentine's Day is called Ystävänpäivä which translates into "Friend's day". As the name says, this day is more about remembering all your friends, not only your loved ones.

In Slovenia, a proverb says that "St Valentine brings the keys of roots," so on February 14, plants and flowers start to grow. Valentine's Day has been celebrated as the day when the first works in the vineyards and on the fields commence. It is also said that birds propose to each other or marry on that day. Nevertheless, it has only recently been celebrated as the day of love. The day of love is traditionally 12 March, the Saint Gregory's day. Another proverb says "Valentin - prvi spomladin" ("Valentine — first saint of spring"), as in some places (especially White Carniola) Saint Valentine marks the beginning of spring.

In Romania, the traditional holiday for lovers is Dragobete, which is celebrated on February 24. It is named after a character from Romanian folklore who was supposed to be the son of Baba Dochia. Part of his name is the word drag ("dear"), which can also be found in the word dragoste ("love"). In recent years, Romania has also started celebrating Valentine's Day, despite already having Dragobete as a traditional holiday. This has drawn backlash from many groups, reputable persons and institutions[25] but also nationalist organizations like Noua Dreaptǎ, who condemn Valentine's Day for being superficial, commercialist and imported Western kitsch.

In Turkey, Valentine's Day is called Sevgililer Günü which translates into "Sweethearts' Day".

According to Jewish tradition the 15th day of the month of Av - Tu B'Av (usually late August) is the festival of love. In ancient times girls would wear white dresses and dance in the vineyards, where the boys would be waiting for them (Mishna Taanith end of Chapter 4). In modern Israeli culture this is a popular day to pronounce love, propose marriage and give gifts like cards or flowers.

In Brazil, the Dia dos Namorados (lit. "Day of the enamored", or "Boyfriend's/Girlfriend's Day") is celebrated on June 12, when couples exchange gifts, chocolates, cards and flower bouquets. This day was chosen probably because it is the day before the Saint Anthony's day, known there as the marriage saint, when many single women perform popular rituals, called simpatias, in order to find a good husband or a boyfriend.

In Colombia, the Día del amor y la amistad (lit. "Love and Friendship Day") is celebrated on the third Friday and Saturday in September, because of commercial issues. In this country the Amigo secreto ("Secret friend") tradition is quite popular, which consists of randomly assigning to each participant a recipient who is to be given an anonymous gift (similar to the Christmas tradition of Secret Santa).

In Venezuela, the Día del amor y la amistad(lit. "Love and Friendship Day") is also celebrated but this one does happen the 14th of February. The Amigo secreto ("Secret friend") tradition is also popular in Venezuela.

Good morning, all! I was out of bed around 6:30 today; I had some laundry I wanted to finish by 9:30, and it's now in the washer.  In another 10 minutes I'll amble down the street and put it in the dryers, come back here and mop the place with Steri-Fab.

After all that, I'll head down to Toyland for a bit and then stop off to the NYPL.  I think that's the end of today's errands.

Much as I like one of the designers on PROJECT RUNWAY, I thought Johnny One-Note should have been sent home.

Valentine's Day greetings!

TOD - 1985, a snowy Feb. 14 in SW Ohio.  Richard and I drove to Oxford, OH, for an appointment with my obstetrician.  During an ultrasound, we heard and saw the beating heart of our DS Rob.  What a valentine!

And the happiesst of birthdays to my Dearest nephew Wilson (who is a smart and wonderful human being).  DR Music Guy (Wilson's other uncle) helped raise him  and treated him like a smaller adult  while my sister was attending school-- probably the most fulfilling period in my life.

He is 14 (so they say), but I could have sworn he was born just a few years ago.  Although he proved it the last time he visited me that he was at the special age by being entranced by the photos of wonderful starlets from the 50's and 60's.  So, I KNOW he's 14!  And a sweet kid!

Der Brucer and I don't really bother with Valentines Day.

Joe, in the meat department, and his husbear Bill don't really bother with Valentines Day, either.

Larry, who is two days older than I, is still aching over his David passing away last August.

Ed (customer service) can't be bothered.  Neither can Jeff (deli).

So that's five out of five at the store who don't celebrate Valentine's Day.  Or seven out of seven, depending on how you count.

On the other hand, it snowed last night, and the ground is whitened and pretty.  But it won't last.

I've been in two long-term relationships in my life, and though we did do things for each other on Valentine's Day, I can't remember anything especially memorable.

I do remember the last Valentine's Day that Frank and I celebrated, we had reservations at one of the swankiest restaurants in the city, and as we were getting dressed, we talked about trying to enjoy food in fancy clothes and decided then and there to cancel the reservation, call for take-out, and enjoy the dinner comfortably and where we could be intimate without disapproving eyes of onlookers around us.

Today I'll be watching the controversial 1985 film WALKER with Ed Harris. This is one of those films that critics either love or despise. Maltin loathes it, but other critics have voiced great support for its outlandish motifs. I've never seen it, so I go in not knowing what to expect and ready for anything.

It's by the director of SID AND NANCY, so I know it won't be easy going.

Last night's "Project Runway":

S P O I L E R

I agree with Larry about Rami Kashou.  He has consistently shown us the same thing over and over.  Very much in the vein of last season's "Ule" and her tie-dyed flowing garments.

I agreed with Christian's comment to the camera about Chris doing that collar...AGAIN.  He could have had a large collar without doing the left-shouldered exaggeration.  That said, I think Roberto Cavalli's comments assured Chris of an opportunity to do a collection.

May the best man win out when they do the three-strongest-looks walk-off before fashion week.

I think Christian pretty much has this competition sewn up.  Jillian is a close 2nd....she has exquisite taste and workmanship.  Christian has creative imagination, flair and fabulousness.  Hmmmm....which WILL the judges pick?

TOD - 1985, a snowy Feb. 14 in SW Ohio.  Richard and I drove to Oxford, OH, for an appointment with my obstetrician.  During an ultrasound, we heard and saw the beating heart of our DS Rob.  What a valentine!

Yes, what a memorable valentine!

By the way, Valentines Day and Easy-Scan do not mix very well.

All of the balloons, and a lot of the flowers, have little tags the Floral Shoppe has written on, instead of the usual bar codes.

The tags include a PLU number and a price.

The poor customers try to scan the tags, instead of putting in the PLU number.

And even if they do put in the PLU number, it still doesn't work correctly with the Easy Scan registers, because the price has to be put in by the attendant.

That's how I spent most of my red-shirt day yesterday.

Today, I'm wearing standard register lincoln green.

I wonder if it would be correct to ask some of those hapless guys, who will come to my register bearing flowers, balloons, cards and candy - "Does she really put out for chocolate?"

Because if she doesn't, that's a lot of money being spent on what, exactly?

Valentine's Day brings out the cynic in me.

On the other hand, it snowed last night, and the ground is whitened and pretty.  But it won't last.

Lucky you, DR SWW! We didn't get no stinkin' snow--I'd forgotten it was in the forecast. Snow is soooo pretty!

Continuing with my Hancock Mitchell monologue ;):  Tina Turner really does a superb job on "Edith and the Kingpin."  I didn't even realize it was her until I looked at the CD cover.  I think it's my fave track, though Norah Jones' "Court and Spark" is also exceptional.

S P O I L E R Answer

PROJECT RUNWAY SPOILER QUESTION
Haven't they allowed four lines in fashion week before?  I'm hoping they call it a draw between Rami and Chris, simply unable to decide, and allow them both to go to Fashion week.

Traditionally, it was three, but last year they sent all four: Michael, Laura, Ule and Jeffrey.

I'm not sure whether it was because all four were considered too strong NOT to send, or what.

This year, I think they've been a bit impressed by Rami's skills but a bit flustered by his draping-draping-draping everything he touches.

Chris was one of the first "auf'd", but was brought back when Jack had to leave the show because of illness.  As Chris was the last to leave at that point, he got the return ticket.  Since then, he's been pretty consistently on-the-beam, and was the reason Christian got the win in their team effort, and won for his own design last week (the "tackiest challenge", in Chris's own words).

I personally thought Chris should have been the third selection with Rami auf'd, especially given his sentiments expressed during the show pooh-poohing everyone else's attempt to go all out.  The judges critiqued him for not having gone all out, as it turns out, and thatta shoulda been thatta.

Still...there's a balance that has been struck.  If both men return with "wow" looks and the judges decide to "deadlock" again, they could both go and four lines will again compete.

The writer's, as I said they would be last weekend, are back at work - they were, in fact, back yesterday when the WGA overwhelmingly voted to accept the deal  that was presented to them last weekend.  Since it was basically known at both the East and West coast meetings that the deal was acceptable, the strike was over then, but for the people who like to have their i's dotted, it's over now, although the actual vote is happening now, I believe.

Please post a SPOILER Warning and tell us what you mean.  I hope it's not because one of last night's evicted allegedly returned.  I missed a bit of what went down and why Jacob and his ex were the first to leave but I don't think either should get a second chance without the other getting one, too.

Also, Adam is one of my favorite people in the house.  And I can't believe how rude, arrogant and totally misguided that 47-year-old has been about him.  I mean, she HAS looked in a mirror, hasn't she???????  He's got her beat in the looks department by several MILES!

Actually, you don't want me to get started on her at all.  When she complained about his smoking and told one of the other girls how gross it was for the show to expect her to kiss a smoker.  What does she think the show is for?  Does she think it's an orgy house?  Why would she think ANYone there would want to KISS her?  She acted like she was being forced to marry/have sex with the guy.  All the show did was tell her that he was her partner for the show.  He's among the strongest men in the house.  If she was smart, she'd make peace and work with him to win as much and as many competitions as possible.  She's a sad, sorry individual in my book -- the mother of a 16-year-old boy carrying on like a "slut-in-heat" whose dreams weren't fulfilled by the Prince Charming fairy.

Well....I said you didn't want to get me started on her.  And I've not said half of what I might have.    :D

I got a kick out of your rant.

I'm not following this, but I've been rather curious how they figure people are "soul mates" & why they mismatched the age so much, unless the guy likes older women & she likes younger men.  If they are matching people, then you don't put a non-smoker with a smoker.

Interesting and Informative note-

MY FUNNY VALENTINE was from a Rodgers and Hart  Musical called BABES IN ARMS. In the show a character named Billie Smith sings the song to a man named VALENTINE LAMAR.

So- The song so  long identified with Valentine's Day is really addressing a Character in the show. But give credit to the genius of Larry Hart to write a lyric that has Universal Meaning Today.

The Verse -Seldom sung because it needs to be sung by a woman goes as follows

"Behold the way our fine feathered friend
His virtue doth parade
Thou knowest not my dim-witted friend
The picture thou hast made
Thy vacant brow and thy tousled hair
Conceal thy good intent
Thou noble upright truthful sincere
And slightly dopey Gent.

You're my funny Valentine........."

DR George, feel better soon.  I have a mild cold, but it is the Benadryl I took last night that has me spending this Valentine’s Day wanting to crawl back into bed-too sleep.

I must admit, the romance seems to have gone out of this day for us.  Don't worry, only in the day, not the marriage :)

We have been apart on far too many Valentine’s Days, so just being together is special.  Although separation had its advantages, Keith used to send me beautiful flower arrangements.

I kept the first special card I ever received, from my boyfriend in 4th grade.  He only signed it from….., still it was a nice card.  I'm sorry to say I don't know what happened to the first cards Keith gave me.  Considering how many years I went without a special card, between 4th grade to 12th, it was very special.

From Michael S:
Quote

Craig said "Yeah, that is accurate. But for the most part, younger people take the opportunity and celebrate both. We included."

June
I have a moo cow
A new cow,
A true cow
Named Caroline

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
She's an extra-special
Friend of mine

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
I like everything
About her fine

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
She likes to moo in
The moonlight
When the moody moon appears
And when she moos in the moonlight
Gosh, it's moosic
To my ears
she's so moosical

She loves a man cow,
A tan cow
Who can cow her
With a glance

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
When he winks at her
She starts to dance

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
It's what grown-ups call
A real romance

Louise
Moo, moo, moo, moo

June
But if we moooved
To the city
Or we settled
By the shore

She'd make the mooove
'Cause she
Loves me more!

Song for the cows

(to the tune of "Five Foot Two")

Four-foot two, eyes of blue
But oh what those four feet could do
Has anybody seen my cow?

Runny nose, hooves for toes
Heifer, yes sir, one of those
Has anybody seen my cow?

But if you run into a four foot two
sporting some horns
Evil eyes, batting flies
You can bet your life no calves were born

But oh the milk,
Oh the cream
Fastest cud you've ever seen
Has anybody seen my cow?

I've been having a nice day. I did three loads of laundry--not fun, but needed--read lots of posts, then took a walk. The sun is out--it's a bit chilly, but dressable. I bought a cute birthday card for a friend, had lunch, and browsed a local bookstore.

A sign I spotted: I LOVE YOU MORE THAN CHOCOLATE.

Interesting and Informative note-

MY FUNNY VALENTINE was from a Rodgers and Hart  Musical called BABES IN ARMS. In the show a character named Billie Smith sings the song to a man named VALENTINE LAMAR.

So- The song so  long identified with Valentine's Day is really addressing a Character in the show. But give credit to the genius of Larry Hart to write a lyric that has Universal Meaning Today.

The Verse -Seldom sung because it needs to be sung by a woman goes as follows

"Behold the way our fine feathered friend
His virtue doth parade
Thou knowest not my dim-witted friend
The picture thou hast made
Thy vacant brow and thy tousled hair
Conceal thy good intent
Thou noble upright truthful sincere
And slightly dopey Gent.

You're my funny Valentine........."

Thanks for the info, Arnold. I shall have to add BABES IN ARMS to my viewing list.

Yes, they're the reason we're here, actually. They were really clucking about this place & we thought we'd see for ourselves. It's unfortunate that they don't post much.

Word really gets around, doesn't it? The chickens don't seem to have much to say. I've always felt that cows were MUCH more intelligent.

PROJECT RUNWAY SPOILER QUESTION

Haven't they allowed four lines in fashion week before?  I'm hoping they call it a draw between Rami and Chris, simply unable to decide, and allow them both to go to Fashion week.

They did last year, for the first time, I believe. I was also0 hoping they'd go that way this year, especially after the first elimination who I have always through didn't deserve to be that far along in the competition. Alas, they didn't do it.

The finals will still be fun.

Here's the latest on NBC and Fox's plans for later in the season:

The Peacock on Wednesday said it would begin rolling out new episodes of existing shows on April 3, when Thursday laffer "My Name Is Earl" returns with an hourlong seg; "30 Rock," "The Office" and "Scrubs" will return a week later, on April 10, along with "ER."

"Law & Order: SVU" returns to firstrun status on April 15, while the "L&O" mother ship returns to orbit on April 23. Peacock drama "Medium" began a run of original segs last month.

NBC also made official what's long been expected: Newcomers "Chuck" and "Life" have been renewed for next season, but they won't air any more original segs this season. "Heroes" has also been picked up for next season and is also being delayed until fall, when it will air only originals.

As for Fox, net will bring drama "Bones" back with between four and six originals starting Monday, April 14, at 8 p.m. (paired with newbie "Canterbury's Law").

Also, Fox has indeed asked "House" to shoot four or five more episodes this season, although those airdates have not yet been determined.

Comedy "Back to You" still has two segs left in the can, while "'Til Death" has one more; Fox has made no decision yet on whether either will produce any more this season.

Step, kick, twirl, kick!

That and so much more!

The dance call for Billy Elliott was very cool, very physical, very athletic and very viscreral.  -And, consequently, very sweaty too.  It really was an amazing way to start the day.  It was like 42nd Street, Stomp, Tap Dogs and "American Gladiators" all wrapped into one.  In fact, they even had to modify the combination after the choreographer's assistant "footed" a hole in the wall of the rehearsal studio.  OOPS!!  ;)

And as for my <giggles>, well...

When I got to the studio, I had a text on my cellphone wishing me a Happy Valentine's Day.  I really wasn't sure who it was from, but the number looked familiar, so I went ahead and texted back, "Same to you."  Then I got another text... And so on and so forth.  Well, after a couple of exchanges - through which I found out the person I was texting back and forth with was in London(!?!?!?) (his number was being routed through a New York office) - it turned out the person had somehow "programmed" his phone to send out a greeting to everyone in his cellphone's phone book.  He was one of the assistant's assistant for a project I worked on last summer.  He was the one who called me to confirm the time and venue.  Very strange, very funny, confusing and giggle-inducing.  At least for me.  ;)

And I ended the afternoon watching PROJECT RUNWAY. After reading the comments here, I wasn't really surprised or dismayed by the results. Looking at the last creations, I'd have to say the judges probably did pick wisely to have the most interesting and creative Fashion Week representatives.

I'm very curious to see what these three people come up with for their fashion lines.

I'm very curious to see all four lines.  Quite possibly, they'll all show in competition just as four folks were given the go-ahead to develop a collection.

For any collectoholics and soundtrack fans - I have just listed a humungous number of Oscar Promo CDs I've gotten over the years - I just have no room for these and I never listen to them.  There are some extremely rare items that have never had official score releases, many have more music than their commercial counterparts.

Good Evening!

Well, I had entertained the idea of heading down to Chelsea Clearview Cinemas myself tonight to catch "What's Up Doc?" on the big screen, but... Then a friend of mine thought he had an extra ticket for Joshua Bell's concert tonight at Carnegie Hall - accompanied by the amazing Jeremy Denk - but then his partner ended up getting back into town this afternoon from an emergency business trip (a day early), so...  And just now, for reasons which will most likely remain unknown, I decided to do a "bottle check and clear" of some of the stuff in the fridge door...  -Yes, beer does go bad.  -Yes, champagne does go bad.  -And just how many bottles of salad dressing can one have at one time?!?! And, Yes, bottled horseradish does go BAD!  :-\  But at least now there's a bit more room in the fridge door.

And all I want to do now is sit down and veg and watch TV.  -Besides, I also have a full day of Billy Elliott dance calls tomorrow, so...

Ah, well...

....And that's what Valentine's Day means to me.

;)

re: big brother

Okay i will post another post with a spoiler of what i meant.  Although there was a one paragraph blurb in the link i posted which summarized it.

Actually, though re: what you said about adam and his older soulmate. I could actually not disagree with you more.

I loathe adam so much. He disgusts me. ANd i cannot stand a single second he is on.

I will grant you that the woman handled things wrong. She should not have said how much he disgusted her.  But come on, there is no way that they could have had matching test scores. To me they are complete opposites.

I honestly just think sheila was so shocked that CBS would match them as soulmates. Maybe her reaction was overboard. But i disagree with you. I find adam to be lacking in every way. But i think she is quite beautiful for her age. I believe she was some type of model.  And i really like her.

I have not read what has happened yet today.

But there had been huge developments last night.

Actually one might upset you.  The guy Neil (the brown haired guy in the gay couple) abruptly left the show. I think he had a family emergency.

apparently his partner got to choose his new partner and he chose sharon. The reason i am so happy is because i just loved her. And was really sad at how stupid they made things (power couple choosing which team went, HATED THAT).

Anyhow not sure if you know but the twist that jen and ryan are dating got out. I surely hope his partner did not blab. But i suspect she did. She is so dumb if she did. I don't get why she was so upset he had a gf. It was like she was jealous. I would have been thrilled to know i had a guaranteed alliance of 4 that could not turn on me.

Anyhow because of her stupidity (or whoever outed them) the two couples are now up for eviction.

If she did blab then i hope she gets the boot.

DR JAne, re: your BIG BROTHER comment.

Actually a lot of people read about the show online (some actually get the live feeds and watch).

It's weird, but i don't do spoilers for any reality show cause those shows have already happened. But i find for BB since it's happening live that reading what is going on on the live feeds really enhances the experiences.

I have not found too many good sites this year.

But i love http://www.hamsterwatch.com

I also like the television withoutpity spoiler thread. There isn't that much to read so it goes fast.

To answer Jane's question from earlier.

No I was not orthodox.

It was when I was younger I was a strong believer and since Valentine's Day was named after a saint I rejected the concept of the day. When I started to question my beliefs by that time Valentine's Day was just another day to me.

I also have never celebrated Mardi Gras.

Back from a nice dinner at Stanley's and then setting up at the Hollywood Collector's Show.  Am I glad I went down there - there'd been a screwup with where I was sitting - I originally told them to seat me next to Bert I. Gordon, but my name tag wasn't there.  A couple of days ago the fellow whose musical I'm mentoring said he'd asked them to seat him and Steve Kanaly near me so we could shmooze.  So they'd moved me next to Kanaly in no man's land.  I found Ray Courts and got him to move me back to Bert, so I'm now between Bert and Mackenzie Phillips, who I know and adore.  So, that should be fun.  MY table is all set up.
Title: Re:BE MY VALENTINE
Post by: bk on February 14, 2008, 08:33:50 PM
Miss Channing was there and while I do adore her as a performer she just is so annoying, as always.  I courteously went over and said hello, introducing myself as the person who'd produced the revival Dolly album.  I could see her mind working (even though she's a bit elderly she's till sharp) and she said, "Yes - we never finished the album."  I looked at her, smiled, and said, "Well, actually we did - it was nominated for a Grammy."  The women she was with looked at her and said, "Isn't that GREAT?  That's wonderful."  Carol couldn't really say any more, so she said, "I had no idea, that's very nice."  And I walked away as quickly as I could.

It's going to be a good show, though - George Kennedy and Frank Stallone, both of whom I worked with, Peter Falk, Ed Asner and the Lou Grant cast, Ernest Borgnine, Molly Bee, Stella Stevens, Carol Lynley, Pamela Sue Martin and lots of others.  But I also think there are some no shows, as there were about seven tables sans name tags.

I began my evening with THE INVASION on Blu-ray. I didn't dislike it as much as bk did. I actually thought the set-up was a marvelous variation on the original plot. But as the movie proceeded, it did run off track and completely fell apart by the end (like the screenwriter tired of the project and just wrapped it up quickly to be done with it). So, I found it overall very disappointing.

Marvelous cast though. Lots of big names, and a nice surprise seeing Veronica Cartwright since she was in the 70s version as well.

And the Blu-ray was 90% spectacular. In certain light motifs, the picture went totally flat and dead, but most of it was dimensional, colorful, and razor sharp. The Dolby Digital TrueHD soundtrack was also superb.

I watched the bonus features for THE INVASION. Three crummy little love-fests with cast and crew running a total of less than 10 minutes. There was also a 19 minute piece on the kinds of subtext that the "invasion" has represented in three of the four versions of the story. It was of adequate interest but not great.

I have to say that I don't care much for that junior lawyer who keeps inflicting herself on Eli. Obviously, they're setting her up as a potential love interest down the road, but she irritates me instead of being endearing as I assume the writers want her to be.

Tomorrow I'll have SUPERNATURAL (most likely in SD) to watch while I cook and eat lunch.

And then I'll probably watch Criterion's WALKER that I had originally planned to watch today.

I have only seen a few episodes of Lost and it is not a bad show. However, I will admit that I do not keep up with the show enough to understand the full story.

Well, I have some writing to take care of, so I'll take my leave for now.

Good night!

I saw in the newspaper today that David Groh passed away. He was my favorite thing about the show RHODA, and I remember not being happy when he left the series.

My hotel room at the Marriott is fabulous!!! The hotel has been remodeled since I was last here and the rooms, especially, have improved 100%! It really looks like a 200 dollar a night room now (of course I got a special of $109 because I am attending the Ray Courts show here).

After eating lunch at the Bollywood Cafe in Studio City I then spent the afternoon at Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee looking through tons of movie stills, selected several goodies which I will go back and get tomorrow...I still have a few titles to look for there.

Then tonight I wandered through the ballroom at the Marriott where all the vendors and celebrities will be located. Many of the vendors were open for business this evening for us early birds and again I found a few much needed movie stills.

I also visted the dashing BK and the ever beautiful DR Adriana who, as BK mentioned above, came to make sure they were sitting where they should.

I am looking very forward to seeing all of the celebrities tomorrow and Saturday.

I still have to get up pretty early tomorrow - have to shave and shower and do the do, and then I want to get to the hotel by nine-fifteen, otherwise parking will be difficult.
