Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not eBay friendly, and now it is time for you to post until the damn cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WEALD!
-
George, see the last post of yesterday for the answer to your CD query.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
Thanks, BK! :D

I see what you mean. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130199515792)

*sigh* being called in to work at 3:00 in the @#!@#! morning at least means that I get an early post in...
I truly can't get particularly riled up about eBay, one way or the other... I've won some 50-odd auctions over the years, and have generally gotten what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. The idea of paying > $500 for something like a collectible would just never cross my mind, so BK's issues never really affected me. As for being sniped: well, I always had a top-bid price in mind, and almost never bothered raising it; if someone sniped me at the last minute, they did so by paying more than I was willing to. I was probably shilled once into paying more than I needed to for a computer, but again, I paid an amount that I thought was reasonable. That being said, eBay is certainly not as much fun for me as it used to be, but that pretty much describes the entire 'net...
-
I see what you mean. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130199515792)
:-\
That's interesting, since he just bought it from me and hasn't received it yet.
-
He's got two others I just sold him listed, too. He's already made a profit on Mulan.
-
That's interesting, since he just bought it from me and hasn't received it yet.
:o What nerve!
-
Has he at least paid for it??
-
Yes, he paid right away via paypal. I just sent you three titles you might be interested in.
-
Good morning. :)
That is all.
-
BK, how much for shipping?
-
Gratuitous Post # 16500 for me. :)
And now, I MUST go to sleep. I'll find out BK's answer in the morning. Good night, all.

When we returned from Wag and Wash, I carried JJ down to the basement patio doors - as soon as he got inside, there was a mad dash for the litter box, like he had been holding it in. (Much runny poop - shut up, Jane :-X)
Late last night I went down to visit and received a lecture:
A. I got in the box, I scratched up the litter - it ain't my fault my ass end was over the edge and I messed on the carpet!

Re the cat, Cilla posted:
If she's going to stay, take it slowly. It took me 6 weeks with Boo, but it was worth it, and that was just introducing her to another cat.
Well, I really don't want the bother of keeping him, but see little choice for now. Actually, he seems quite content having the basement to himself - he has taken to exploring, and there is lots of stuff to get into :) As soon as you come downstairs, if he is not in his chair, he comes dashing out from the nether regions to greet you. He always uses the litter box (even if he does have poor aim - guess he is a male) and seems to really like the el-cheapo canned food I got from Super G (2 small cans for $0.89). The Wag and Wash is having a $3 rabies clinic on Saturday, so they'll all get shots.
JJ does seem genuinely happy, so I guess he stays a while.

Is "@#!@#!" a Hebrew cuss-word?
der Brucer
There really aren't any good Hebrew cuss-words, which is why every Israeli knows at least seven words in English (quick George Carlin reference); probably the worst thing you can call somebody in Hebrew is a "ben zonah," which literally translates as "son of a harlot," and that's a term you can find in talmudical discussions.
Yiddish, on the other hand, lends itself quite well to sarcastic put-downs (who woulda thunk?)

DR dB: thanks for more pictures of the ever-cute DC JJ!

Good morning. That is all.

Good morning also. That is all also.

I think everything I have to say, I said yesterday. ::)

I've had good experiences on ebay, but have learned that you must watch out for the shipping and handling costs, which I must admit have surprised me.

Wednesday morning greetings! Another snowy communte here in SW Ohio - I left a few minutes earlier than usual and got to work in plenty of time. At least today's weather is just snow, not the ice we had last week.
-
...Or in a coroner...
-
DR Ginny - glad your commute concluded safely.
-
But it's a dry heat...
;)
-
I also used to enjoy e-bay. I bought a lot of antique Evelyn Nesbit postcards for DR Sandra and vintage Marilyn Monroe postcards for DR Megan. Later it seemed they were being listed by stores and too expensive.
-
Good morning, all! I had horrible dreams based on Scott smith's novel (and forthcoming movie) THE RUINS, and I slept late, until around 8:30. I've caught up on last night's posts, checked my bank account, had some coffee, and I'm ready to work on Critical Notes to The Lady Of The Slipper.
at some point I need to rn to the psot office and to a hardware store. I also have a short trek to the NYPL to dro[p poff a package for my friend Bob in the Music Division.
DR Jose, I'm glad you liked Mr Doyle's Sondheim productions and I'm glad it gave the critics who missed the chance to review the superior originals an opportunity to oooh and aaah over Mr Sondheim. I still believe both productions had to sacrifice in either the acting or musical departments to find people to do both, and - at least with SWEENEY, since one was more than enough - I feel the production was only for folk who knew the story since Mr Doyle's lack of concern with telling the plot or defining relationships was completely nil. As for his MAHAGONNY, he was truly out of his element.
-
DR Ginny - glad your commute concluded safely.
Thanks, DR Singdaw! In about an hour, I have to go out for a midday meeting at the Girl Scout center. Maybe they'll serve GS cookies for dessert!

Tonight on tv we have at 8pm: premiere of AMERICA's NEXT TOP MODEL, BIG BROTHER, and IDOL.
Also COMPANY on PBS at 9pm. Yeah!

DR Jose, RE: COMPANY on PBS.
HEre it plays all throughout the night.
But i believe it may be on this weekend too (in NYC).
-
Yesterday DR Jose said re: IDOL:
As for tonight's "American Idol"... Hmmm...
And as for Josiah not being in the Top 24... Well, I felt he blew his chances during Hollywood week, and with all his post-"Idol" publicity and appearances, well... I don't think he would have lasted that long anyway. And that faux-English just doesn't seem to go away, even when he's speaking
.
Count me in on one of those who was quite upset that Josiah was cut (and kyle too).
But i'm curious, what are his post idol appearances. I have not seen him but would like to.
I actually think he could have gone far. He had a lot of exposure. As well he gave the judges one of their favorite hollywood moments.
I really think the Pre-top 24 exposure is a huge factor.
There are a few guys in the top 24 who i have never seen before. the one guy (who played the guitar with the long hair) i think has a chance. Because simon said he was amazing.
But the Leif Garrett looking guy (seemed sweet but i have never seen him) and a few of the others are going down. It's just not equal playing field when people like the 17 year old boy and the australian michael johns have had a lot of exposure.

No argument about the first two being the best of the night. I didn't care for David Cook much, especially the Chris Daughtry-like twirling of the mic stand.
I think Danny Noreiga will go before Jason Yeager. Jason has a lilting quality to his voice that I liked (wasn't wowed by it, but it was more than the pleasant karaoke that most of the guys opted for last night.)
-
Good morning!
Another spring day. It was cold this morning, but we're back in the 60s today. Tomorrow promises to be much colder and rainy.
-
Since Jennifer already mentioned some shows for tonight, I'll merely add:
LAW & ORDER
PROJECT RUNWAY
RENO 911!
-
I am very eager to finish THE LAST EMPEROR today and put it behind me. I have a stack of other movies to get to including:
INTO THE WILD
THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE
DAN IN REAL LIFE
And not a box set among them! ;D
-
What is this eBay you speak of?
-
MattH, I envy you--*this* week's boxed set for me is the Mirren at BBC one. I've made it through several of the plays already, some better than others, as you might expect.
-
Only one of the three PBS stations in the area is showing COMPANY tonight, a big disappointment since I was hoping it would be one of the other two who broadcast in HD. Still I'll record it since I guess I'll be watching IDOL.
-
MattH, I envy you--*this* week's boxed set for me is the Mirren at BBC one. I've made it through several of the plays already, some better than others, as you might expect.
Mirren? I knew there was Maggie Smith at the BBC coming. I didn't know about Mirren.
Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for your review since this won't be coming my way.
-
Interesting they rank the top 12 guys from IDOL:

-
I'll not quibble about Ebay. I've gotten things there I don't think I would have found otherwise. (That PORGY & BESS is a prime example.) Careful shopping and one can pick things up for reasonable prices. I'm not concerned that there aren't the great STEALS there now that one could get years ago. It still serves its purpose for me.
-
And apparently there is some IDOL controversy:
http://www.votefortheworst.com/americanidol7contestants
http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/13980/irish-idol-smithsons-secret-past
-
And as for IDOL tonight, I may record the show and not start watching until 9 so I can speed through it and see the show basically in an hour's time. That may be the way to go with these two hour broadcasts.
-
Yes snow is here, school was delayed by two hours, which I didn't know, so when I went to the bank I was sharing the streets with several hundred HIGH SCHOOL drivers, smoking cigarettes, talking on cell phones, and driving as if the streets were dry and clean. And no hand to use a turn signal.
-
So much on tonight......
-
Lovely SOD DR ARNOLDBROCKMAN - it's one of my favorite songs to sing.
-
Mirren? I knew there was Maggie Smith at the BBC coming. I didn't know about Mirren.
Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for your review since this won't be coming my way.
Yes, and the interesting thing is the UK and US releases contain different items (some overlap, too), which has some people in an uproar.
-
I hate the ACTIVA checkout system that some sellers use....and I hate sellers who use more space to spell out their RULES to BUYERS than they use to describe the item they are selling.
-
I hate the ACTIVA
But how do you feel about ACTIVIA? ;)
-
PROJECT RUNWAY is a reunion show (have they done this in previous years?). I'm looking forward to seeing Jack again and hearing about him. As for the rest, hearing them snipe about one another really isn't my idea of a good time.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm guessing when Emeril Lagasse appears on "Martha Stewart" in a few minutes that they'll be "officially" announcing that Martha is buying/has bought Emeril's cookware line. -They're both carried at Macy's, so I guess they won't have to transfer over the shelf-stock. ;)
-
Off to see the
Wizard Girl Scouts!
Bye for now.

Yes they do this each cycle at this time. ;D

I actually still like eBay. Having done so much of my Farmer research in libraries with microfiche, etc., eBay was like a wonderland when I first found it years ago, with troves of pictures, etc., that I had never seen before. I'm still occasionally pleasantly surprised (as with that weird Tamiroff pic from a week or so ago). And I still manage to find bargains--just got Raymond Khoury's new book for a couple of bucks, and another book I had looked at, "The Secret History of the World," for $5.00 (list price $30).
-
As for e-Bay... I used it for one transaction years ago, and just last year I finally discontinued my membership. Of course, that process took a couple of months to complete. Yes, there used to be some deals on e-Bay, but I have too many friends who have been ripped off via e-Bay, and I got sick of all the spoof e-mails from "e-Bay" and "PayPal".
-
Off to see the Wizard Girl Scouts!
Will you let anyone TAGALONG? :)
-
My favorite "Will & Grace" of all time was the one where Jack had an "eBay nemesis." I loved that episode.
-
Oliver, to the Beadle: "Please sir, I want SAMOAS".
-
I have been on a Cal Tjader kick lately. I'm listening to his album of eastern tunes orchestrated by Lalo Schifrin.
-
Nemesis - what a great name for a pet cat or dog! :)
-
Well I do buy regularly from EBAY - as DR JMK (who I met through EBAY, likewise DR MBARNUM) - and see things that are very interesting, even if I don't purchase.
And now and then I buy a BOOK LOT of used books for the store for $25 or $30 to keep the shelves full of interesting things. Now and then a more valuable book comes in those boxes....including the SIGNED FIRST EDITION FIRST PRINTING copy I got a couple of weeks ago of Mr Frank Edwards book on Strange Things. If you don't know who Frank Edwards is, well, it won't matter. But 50 years ago, he was THE writer on the paranormal - before it was the NORM.
-
DR Jennifer - Josiah has made the rounds of "Access Hollywood", "Extra", etc., here in the states. He has now revealed his mother's fight with cancer, and how he wants to make her proud before she dies.
He was also on "Ellen", and she gave him $8,000 worth of musical equipment, and, apparently, some real estate company is trying to set him up with some real housing (instead of his car)... I'm sure if you go to each program's websites and/or YouTube, you should be able to find the clips of his appearances.
I may be totally misreading him, but, right now, he seems to be really playing into being in the spotlight. His tears still seem genuine, but that English-inflected Tennessee accent is really getting annoying. -To me at least.
-
So you can blame DRJMK for bringing me here, and you can blame me for bringing DR MBARNUM....the rest of the world is someone else's responsibility....prolly DR JOSE.
Hey, guess what I have in the oven?
-
Nemesis - what a great name for a pet cat or dog! :)
Only if it's a girl.
Nemebro, on the other hand, just sounds dumb.
-
I've been called in to work. Someone must've called out.
Time to go pay for the cat food.
-
Hey, guess what I have in the oven?
Surely not a euphemism? :P
-
Heading down now to straighten up some clothes, check the mail, and then start on lunch preparation. Then, it's back to the infinitely long TV version of THE LAST EMPEROR.
WBBL.
-
We had all good experiences on e-bay. Purchasing other things online is a different story. Like the Dell notepad thing DR Sandra posts from sometimes....
-
Everywhere I go, I seem to be in someone's way. So I sat myself in a corner and looked through / shredded old papers.
I hate papers.
-
Hey, guess what I have in the oven?
A bun?
-
I think everything I have to say, I said yesterday. ::)
LIGHTWEIGHT!
-
"Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"
What is one of the corniest lines ever spoken in a movie starring Jerry Ohrbach looking embarrassed at every turn?
-
So you can blame DRJMK for bringing me here, and you can blame me for bringing DR MBARNUM....the rest of the world is someone else's responsibility....prolly DR JOSE.
In my case, it was BK who brung me here....he rescued me from rec.music.movies (or was that rec.movies.music?).
-
I love Ebay. I love Ebay. I love Ebay.
Sure there are sellers who say "rare," even though it is a reprint of a photo of John Wayne that is being sold in 15 other auctions for half the price...but heck, I have found great things on Ebay that I never woulda found otherwise.
I have had very few bad experiences on Ebay, and it may all depend a lot on what items you are looking for, but for me it is all good....except for the sellers who charge $10.00 for postage to mail a photo that really only costs .99 cents to mail.
-

And as for the "American Idol" controversy...
All of that made the Fox News broadcast here in NYC last night - which came on right after "AI". However, the "ringers" started appearing a few seasons back. There just seem to be more of them this season.
"American Idol" and "Project Runway" and other "reality competition" shows are more "entertainment" for me than "competitions". Yes, I watch and follow them, but I also don't mind if I end up missing a week, missing an elimination, or end up reading a Spoiler. I used to sit through every round of the Kappell Piano Competition at the University of Maryland... Now that's a true competition! ;)
-
EBay: I still do quite a bit of business with eBay as a buyer.
I agree with BK, though, about some of the sellers and their unenlightened expectations.
I've seen "rare" soundtrack titles being offered at premium prices (i.e., what the books used to list for items in "mint" condition). The descriptions usually indicate writing on the cover, split seams, some sort of stains and the record always appears VG++ which means a couple of scratches making two tracks unplayable, but all the rest have only mild surface noise BUT the vinyl is shiny!
I used to write these dweebs and give them a clue about the real value of what they were offering. It finally dawned on me that they don't care. They can ask whatever they want and LET THE BUYER BEWARE.
-
I recently found a title card I'd been looking for, or thought I was still missing. I found it listed and at much more than I was willing to pay. The write-up revealed that there was tape on the back and along the edges, that the item had been folded, that there was a hole in one section, a stain in another, etc., etc.
Later, I was going through some of my title cards and found I already had TWO (count 'em 2) of the same title. The most expensive of the two I had paid roughly one-fifth of the price being asked for the one on eBay. My two cards, however, were in extremely good condition with the "white" areas slightly yellowed with age.
I thanked my lucky stars....!
-
More proof of my technically-challengedness -- I can honestly say I have never used Ebay. I've only used Amazon once -- to buy a Brain CD! I've used PayPal 3 times -- the first time for the NYC trip (that security depost on the sublet and for the Brain share) and the second for a pair of boots last month. Only a few other purchases online through the years, but I try to avoid doing financial business/transactions online -- it makes me anxious, nervous, whatever...
-
Bruce: There was one title in your CD list that piqued my curiousity. Is "Hearts of Atlantis" still available? If so, can you e-mail me with a ballpark figure of what you want for it?
-
Nemesis - what a great name for a pet cat or dog! :)
DITTO! I love it.
(Come to think of it, I may need to name a future pet DITTO!)
-
We have several storm systems lined up off the coast. We've had rain the past two nights. There was a real gullywasher last night.
When I drove in this a.m., the sun was shining. It is now grey and gloomy.
The worst of the storms is expected to roll in and dump water on us on Saturday. Between then and now, two systems will provide "showers" daily.
And nobody's complaining, either!

DR SnoopSingiddyDawg ~ You're on a roll today! Making me chuckle ;D

I can honestly say I've had only 2 bad experiences out of 1,000s of great ones.
I always laugh, scoffingly, at the listings of photos that feature "signed autographs." I guess that's the opposite of the "unsigned autograph."
I also tire of the PP listings....the "pre-print" photos that are reproductions of autographed photos. I don't want no stinking copy. If I'm looking for "autographed" anything, I want the real deal only.
And BUYER BEWARE at the too-good-to-be-true listing. Mike is absolutey dead-on correct. Some will offer an unbelievable "Buy it now" price on something...and that's a dead certain clue that he's making up the difference in his "shipping/handling" fee. I've seen fees up to $20" for a photo.
-
Now there's a word I haven't heard in ages! :D
I hear it all the time down to the store where I buy my "sasparilly"!*

And sometimes, all you have is the title in the listing...and nothing else about the item. :-\
Otherwise, I've had mostly good success from eBay. I do pay attention to the shipping costs. It's been a long time since I can remember sellers not putting in shipping costs and you had to contact them and they only took money orders and you had to get one to mail...through the USPS! Paypal has been a great service and for the buyer (I've never sold anything), there are no extra fees. :)

He looks so innocent, and yet...

I DO get why he was disturbed during last night's "Biggest Loser" as the contestants made their ways home for one week.
My guess is, he identified most with Bernie, who has actually had a Boston Cream Pie Cupcake named after him at his favorite Chicago bakery.
Aspire, DR Jo....aspire! Perhaps there will be a Levain namesake in your future!

I used to go the USPS every week and buy several postal money orders. And then I'd address my envelopes, insert a copy of the auction page with my check, add a stamp and mail the damned things. PayPal eliminated all the fuss and bother for the seller.
I used to get VERY upset at the sellers who were offering something I had been looking for and then read "I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL" followed by a lengthy, verbose explanation that was a diatribe against PayPal for exacting fees based on the amount of the sale.
I've written many of these vendors and asked them to let me use PayPal and that I would GLADLY pay whatever the fee was they'd be charged for doing so. A few agreed, most would not.
It has been a while, though, since I encountered anyone who would not accept PayPal. It doesn't really make any sense not to. Sellers can "build in" the PayPal fee while buyers get the protection PayPal offers for any problems that may arise due to non-receipt of merchandise already paid for.

Sorry, DR RLP - the original link seemed to be broken, so I had to swap out something else. :(
-
Perhaps there will be a Levain namesake in your future!
But what would the "Jose Can You See" cookie consist of, I wonder?
-
Sorry, DR RLP - the original link seemed to be broken, so I had to swap out something else. :(
The missing link, eh? I always thought that might be "you."
;)
-
Yes DR RLP that "I do NOT accept PayPal" sometimes stops me from bidding on something.....because of the added trouble of getting the money order, writing the envelope, printing out the page, etc.
But then I have NEVER sold anything on EBAY, so I don't know. This auction I won a couple of hours ago is still unpaid because ACTIVA gives me an "unexpected error" each time I try to pay.
-
But what would the "Jose Can You See" cookie consist of, I wonder?
Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog tails?

Yes DR RLP that "I do NOT accept PayPal" sometimes stops me from bidding on something.....because of the added trouble of getting the money order, writing the envelope, printing out the page, etc.
One vendor, to whom I offered reimbursement for the PayPal charge, said NO and told me to "Move along. I don't need your business!"
And has anyone here ever taken eBay to task for the policy of requiring the shipping address be the same as the mailing address?
I cannot be at home when mail is delivered, and most everything I order has to be packaged in a size larger than my mail box.
EBay has "apologized" and said they do it for the protection of the seller. I have countered and said I don't need their protection...I need their "cooperation" in allowing me to get my packages where I can "receive them" without having to make special trips to the "carrier annex" in downtown Oakland once a week.
Most sellers disregard eBay's suggestion to deny the alternate shipping address. But a few are absolutely PRIGGISH about it.

Last night I got a "friend" request on Facebook from someone whose name means absolutely nothing to me. They apparently graduated a year after me at college. I don't want to be rude, but I have no idea who this guy is.
Maybe Alzheimer's has already begun to set in...

Is it packaged in wire or in wood?

I can never remember any jokes, let alone punch lines.

Wood of course!

DR RLP - the message boards at the EBAY community are full of sellers who complain about everything including the poor people who buy their stuff and then - for some reason - expect to get it in a reasonable time and as presented.
Fortunately I can use the same address.....but if it's a gift, it is sent to me to be sent on .... costing double....
-
No argument about the first two being the best of the night.
I'd take out David Cook, too, and put the dreadlocked guitar player in that top three somewhere. The first singer of the night, the guy from Glendale, wasn't too bad either, not top 3 but close -- nice voice but no stage presence so he may be on the short list if he doesn't rock the house soon -- the rest were "forgettable" with their song choices/presentations last night.
(The two Elvis singers deserve to be in that bottom bunch in place of Jason. The blonde kid smiling and mugging through Suspicious Minds bugged me since the message of the song doesn't seem to be something you want to be smiling and mugging about -- if his goal was to come across cute and muggy, pick a song that fits being muggy and attempted cuteness ::) and the dark haired one came across cocky and mouthy :P) Chickahi, or whatever his name is, was cocky and mouthy during the judges' comments, too, and that is always a turn off for me :P... Listen and learn!
I'll watch the girls tonight (I just wanted to see everyone since some of them we never saw nor heard before ... which hardly seems fair the way they pick a few to start showcasing early...) and then that will probably be the end of my AI guilty pleasure viewing -- my thesis work isn't leaving me alot of gulity pleasure time. AI withdrawal ...urrrggh!
-
And you thought my response was going to be a simple, "Maybe?", didn't you?
Well... the thought did cross my mind! :)

The Man in the Moon [who's a lady] was particularly gorgeous early this morning when it was still dark out!
Earth is going to be swallowing up the moon tonight in a lunar eclipse.
Supposedly, all of California should be able to witness this.
Unless, of course, one's area is beset/besieged with clouds or fog.

My favorite RARE eBay listings are the ones like:

Hello, everyone. I understand that some people have been asking about me so I'll just drop by and say hi. A friend from California was visiting last week, plus I've got waaayyy too much to do. I had a bit of damage from some high winds last week, so Marvelous Matt will be coming by to take care of that. I finished Maeve Binchy's CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. Nice book.
I'll try to visit regularly again if and when I get caught up. Oh, yes, here come the bitch-slaps!

RLP - Hearts in Atlantis sold right away - if you're talking about the Disney film.
-
As mentioned in the notes, eBay has been incredible in terms of finding rarities, but certain categories are now just impossible because dealers will not allow anything to go for a bargain price. When certain collecter/dealers found out what illustration art was going for on eBay they swarmed in and irrevocably ruined it for everyone, and that ruination, despite their having left long ago, continues to this day.
-
I used to sell on eBay regularly at the beginning and did very well, but ultimately eBay got very greedy and their fees were so much for the pricier items that I just stopped and haven't sold anything on eBay for years. All these Oscar promos I've been getting rid of would have done much better on eBay, but I just can't do it.
-
Speaking of selling, I have a bunch of duplicate books I'm thinking about selling - so I'll list them here in case someone is interested in something. They'll all be reasonable and there are some titles that some folks might want.
-
Hi, Jack.

Good Afternoon!
Hi, Jeanne! :)

In other news, after taking a glance at my calendar for the next couple of days, I realized that today would be a good day to get some laundry done. So, I've sorted my whites, light colors, and dark colors, and the machine is currently agitating upstairs.

No Way To Treat A Lady by Harry Longbaugh - a very rare paperback original (Gold Medal) which became the film starring Rod Steiger, George Segal and Lee Remick. Harry Longbaugh was, of course, the pseudonym for author William Goldman, who would go on to write Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - and the Sundance Kid's real name was, of course, Harry Longbaugh. This copy is very nice, with just a slight spine lean its only real problem
The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe - Jane Wagner. Lily Tomlin's amazing one-person show. Hardcover that had many, many printings. This is a first edition in mint condition.
-
Jrand, I took care of that prob.

Punchline to a washing machine joke from the 1960's:

Jrand, I took care of that prob.
Yes, thank you so much. Sorry about that, chief. :P

Yes, and the interesting thing is the UK and US releases contain different items (some overlap, too), which has some people in an uproar.
Especially since two of the plays in the non-USA set are her MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and CYMBELINE from the complete BBC Shakespeare series that have never been available as individual titles in the USA. I think it's criminal the entire set and individual plays have been available in Region-2, but only a few titles are available in the USA and only in sets of titles.
-
DR MISS KAREN - as a theatre person-costumer-prop gatherer....sometimes EBAY can be your best friend.

And, of course, EBay is where I found MANY of my BK-produced CDs from years gone by...!
And where I purchase most of the promo copies I hand out.

No, this one is a Stephen King story starring Anthony Hopkins with a Mychael Danna score.
I believe Warner Brothers released it. Castle Rock produced.

More:
The Lady From Dubuque - Edward Albee First Edition Nice copy, save for some fading on the spine and a small hole-sized tear at the very bottom of the rear dust jacket panel.
Tenderloin - a First Edition of this musical by Bock and Harnick, published by Random House. A beautiful copy save for some minor smudging - rarely seen in this kind of condition.
Promises, Promises - second printing, perfect copy except the price is neatly clipped, and there's a read remainder slash on the bottom page edges (visible only if you hold the book up and look at the bottom while it's closed).
A Death In The Family - James Agee. An almost impossible book to find in decent collector condition. The jacket was very cheaply produced and is always ratty and torn. This copy has no tears or chips to the jacket, but the very top right of the front panel has some wrinkling. There is a former owner's signature on the front free endpaper, otherwise a really nice copy of a book that keeps going up in value. The original price (3.95) is present, and this has all the correct first state points (later state of the first edition has the title page in black - here it is blue).
Paul McCartney - Poems and Lyrics 1965-1999 The true UK first edition of this book, which became a collectible within a week of its being released. A perfect as new copy.
The Underground Man - Ross Macdonald. Not a rare book, but never ever seen in this condition. Virtually perfect in every way - the jacket is Very Fine and looks new (no typical fading to the spine, and the book itself looks unread. Macdonald is my favorite writer of private eye fiction.
Jasper Fforde - The Eyre Affair - Fforde's critically acclaimed first book, here in its true UK first edition. As new in jacket, a book that goes up in value every year and with every new book Fforde writes.
The Tenth Man - Paddy Chayefsky. First Edition play. The book itself is in very nice condition - the jacket is complete but looks a little dusty. There's some residue for a price sticker on the front, and a chip out at the top of the front panel.

Just watched the opening number clip of COMPANY....I just don't like the cast playing instruments....I can't get past it, I don't think. As another DR said, something has to suffer.....you can get the best musicians AND the best ACTORS....but somehow this way either the acting/singing or the playing has to suffer.... I don't know.....I will watch and see how it all turns out. I do like the Cast Recording (not as much as the 1970 OCR), but I like some of the songs.

Paypal has made Ebay life so much easier....for both buying and selling!
And the three 1960s Aurora monster model kits, original and unopened, that I found at Value Village last October for .99 each and sold on Ebay last fall, paid for both my new TV and my trip to California.
Oh yes, Ebay is my friend (and so are those buyers in Japan, NY, and NJ who bid high and bid often!)
-
When I sell big ticket items (or what I think might be big ticket items) I always start them at $9.99
Movie photos I ususally start at $5.00 or less.
My next set of auctions of movie photos and vintage paperback books will likely start at 99 cents.
-
I have the newest windows in the neighborhood.
-
And in many cases Ebay has brought the price of items down. For instance Vintage Barbies...through the mail and via doll shows or antique shows they used to be priced in the hundreds of dollars...but thanks to Ebay and it has been found that those vintage Barbies are not all that rare and can be found at some darn good prices should one be interested.
On the other hand you can find beat up movie stills starting at $24.99...of course nobody bids on them.
-
Now I need my DH to come out of hiding to put the curtains up.
-
I usually start at 99 cents myself.
-
I have the newest windows in the neighborhood.

OK, so we've established you're cheap. How about easy? ;D

Don't you read the papers?

Now I need my DH to come out of hiding to put the curtains up.
He's currently holed up with Sassy and Sasha...
Good luck! :D

Gladys Knight was quite wonderful when she guest-starred in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE on Broadway. Just a lovely presence and voice.

The other problem, which of course all the tin-eared critics ignored, is that when it comes ime for a big climacctic musical number, everyone's singing so the musical forces are drastically reduced in favor of the vocal forces. Itseemed to me in SWEENEY a lose-lose situation.
Of course, for me, the joke of Doyle's COMPANY, with everyone lurking around in formal attire and carrying an instrument looks like an orchestra on strike.
-
Will COMPANY be released on DVD?

Why am I not surprised you're dealing with vintage Barbies?
I've been on the phone with two absolutely lovely ladies from Fed Ex, one in Fed Ex Freight and one in Fed Ex Ground service, about shipping 43 cartons from NYC to Oxford, OH. Since I don't have a weight total for the cartons, I'm estimating now around 900 lbs-1200 lbs for the megillah.
Fed Ex Freight estimated a shipping total of $750+ and Fed Ex Ground ran the gamut from $465 (900 lbs) to 560 (1200 lbs). All were less than I figured, so I'm quite happy at the moment.
-
Will COMPANY be released on DVD?
Yes, May 20th, or you can get it sooner by ordering from pbs.org
-
Yes, DR elmore3003, I would have thought it would cost a lot more than that, too!

I kove the eBay vendors who charge outrageoys prices, claiming "hard to find" or RARE on their item, like a vocal score to CAROUSEL, which is availbale in any good music store.

Thank you Jennifer. At least after my research I dont disagree with his medical conclusions, just his lack of ethics and consideration for his patient.

I kove the eBay vendors who charge outrageoys prices, claiming "hard to find" or RARE on their item, like a vocal score to CAROUSEL, which is availbale in any good music store.
Some of us don't live close to a good music store.....so getting things by mail is a bonus!!! ;D

Gladys Knight was quite wonderful when she guest-starred in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE on Broadway. Just a lovely presence and voice.
A friend of mine played "the other White Woman" ;) in Smokey Joe's Cafe during Gladys Knight's stint. She had nothing but lovely things to say about Gladys Knight. Ms. Knight even provided dinner on a regular basis for the cast and crew - most of which she cooked herself! I was lucky enough to partake of some of Ms. Knight's fried chicken and cornbread on two occasions... That was some "slap yo' Mama" good fried chicken! :)
-
My first question for ASK BK day:
Even if you own the DVD or Video, do you still sometimes watch a movie or television show when it is being broadcast?
-
I kove the eBay vendors who charge outrageoys prices, claiming "hard to find" or RARE on their item, like a vocal score to CAROUSEL, which is availbale in any good music store.
...Which is sort of like when I would show up for a first rehearsal of a (classic) show with my own copy of the piano/vocal score in hand, and then the music director would ask me, "Oh! Where did you get that?" :-\
Thankfully, those days are over. ;)
-
Damn. This photo on the front of the Joan Crawford Box Set is stunning!

I'm happy to report I have watched THE LAST EMPEROR in this set for the third and last time (for quite awhile, that is). Never been one of my favorite movies, and after this whirlwind viewing extravaganza, it didn't improve much in my eyes. Maybe a half star on a five star scale, but that's all.
All of the bonus features did help me see what was being aimed for in Bertolucci's original vision, and that's helped me to pick it apart a little more to see that he did achieve more of less most of his aims.
-
I sped through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke or Noah, nor were they a part of the previews for tomorrow's show either.
-
I had time to watch Monday night's NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE. It had some funny moments with Christine being thought of as the worst of the "meanie moms." She had redeemed herself by the end of the show.
-
I still have last night's JERICHO which I'll watch when I go back down. Looking forward to that.
-
And as for IDOL tonight, I may record the show and not start watching until 9 so I can speed through it and see the show basically in an hour's time. That may be the way to go with these two hour broadcasts.
Sure works for me!

Congrats on your plateau, Ron!! ;D
Thanks, Giorgio!

Life is an ever-lasting learning experience:
A. Were there is kitty litter, there will be kitty poop. DC JJ sxratched litter out of the box onto the carpet, and decided that the new pile was fair game.
Lesson Learned - clean up around the litter box - often!

Soon after this, Buster managed to get into the basement and immediately went cat searching - JJ retreated to the top of his chair and hissed, but that was it. (Fortunately, JJ's new home is inside a four foot chain-link enclosure I had put up in the basement when we got Peggy and her three pups. It has a nice chair, carpet on the floor, and a space heater nearby. I was able to close the gate - keeping Buster out - until I caught him and put him back upstairs.)

DH has returned and is installing brackets for the drapery rods.

So I sat myself in a corner and looked through / shredded old papers.
Go into business! Get some old boxes, have MaeLing decorate with crayon, fill with shredded paper, and sell as "Laura's Kustom-Krafted Kitty Tray" (can also double as a Guinea pig or Parrot cage liner).

I think I will watch some Joan Crawford before COMPANY comes on.

My first question for ASK BK day:
Even if you own the DVD or Video, do you still sometimes watch a movie or television show when it is being broadcast?
Rarely, if ever.
-
No book lovers?

I went to Marie Callender's in Burbank to have a hamburger and to proof. It was fun. Character actor Ed Lauter wandered in whilst I was there.

I finally have come up with a tune I love for the second number (new) of the stage version of Nudie Musical. I was not happy with what I'd written, either musically or lyrically, but this new tune feels really good, is very catchy, and I now have to reconfigure the lyric and make it cleaner.

Ok, whose been peeking at my doll collection?!

One of the other PBS stations in my area is showing the HD broadcast of COMPANY tomorrow night at 9 (opposite LOST and SUPERNATURAL, of course). So I'll be recording it then. I probably won't watch it at all tonight unless I flip over to see what it looks like during LAW & ORDER commercials.

Both my previous and current cats did/do better with cat boxes that had/have hoods.

I did get one review copy in the mail today: the Blu-ray disc of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It doesn't come out until March 11th, but here it is. Still have three other films to get to before I can watch it.

Sad to report the passing of hilarious Bollywood character actress MANORAMA who passed away on February 15th in Mumbai.
Her acting career went back to the silent days and her last feature film appearence was in the film WATER...just a few years ago.
JRand might recall her from that PARENT TRAP remake DO KALIYAN and that very fun film CARAVAN.

I also used to enjoy e-bay. I bought a lot of antique Evelyn Nesbit postcards for DR Sandra and vintage Marilyn Monroe postcards for DR Megan. Later it seemed they were being listed by stores and too expensive.
I still have my leopard-spotted photo album with my Marilyn Monroe postcards!

Guess I'll head down now to watch JERICHO and possibly a Charlie Chan movie before settling in with tonight's TV shows.

OK... Since it is Ask BK Day... And I know I should know the answer to this question, but...
"MILLSTONE" vs. "MILESTONE"? When did one term "become" the other?

Re the cat, Cilla posted:Well, I really don't want the bother of keeping him, but see little choice for now.

T.O.D.
I have had mostly good luck with ebay. Before Half.com was bought up by ebay, I sold a lot of vhs tapes that I had replaced with DVDs. Since ebay bought them out, there are so many differen copies of every possible movie, available at various prices, that I finally gave up listing them. Purchase-wise I have gotten several things that I thought were good deals, and only once or twice was I disappointed.
My sister, on the other hand, was late to the show. She just discovered ebay last fall. Unfortunately, she tends to shop after a couple of glasses of wine. The results are not always good. She bid $67.50 for a Coach purse online, but she failed to put in the decimal point. I managed to get her out of that mess, but there have been a few other mistakes.

And I have had the opposite experience, I have ran into some sellers who accept paypal only

Gee, I certainly managed to put a stop to all conversation!
Hello, DR TCB!
Alas, I believe it's prime dining and/or TV viewing time for most folks right now.
In fact, I've just had some soup for dinner, and through the wonders of the DVR, I'm watching "American Idol", "America's Next Top Model" and "Great Performances: Company" all at the same time, more or less. Some more, some less. ;)
-
I am inside a building with no windows

Is anyone watching the total lunar eclipse? It's pretty darned cool where I am!
Sadly, there's too much cloud cover over West Harlem right now.
-
It is totally cloudy outside here.

I wish I had a good camera that could take night-time pictures...with a strong zoom lens.
-
It's completely cloudless here in Olympia.

I'm proud to say that the fellow who played the romantic lead in my production of Tenderloin last June has been wowing audiences all over America ever since in the title role of The Wedding Singer.

-
I'm freezing. I should have worn shoes and a coat before going outside. I must have been out during the total eclipse, all I saw were stars and clouds.
Oh well.

All fog and clouds here in the Bay area.
M-O-O-N, that spells "Eclipse". We ain't got no eclipse to see.

Interesting bleeps in Company.
I'm not hating it as much as I thought I would.
-
I've been watching Helen Mirren in William Wycherly's comedy The Country Wife. I love Restoration comedy. Margery Pinchwife's letter writing scene is a hoot. Now i'm watching PWOJECT WUNWAY.
-
I'm off to home for some TV watching. :)
-
"MILLSTONE" vs. "MILESTONE"? When did one term "become" the other?
I fear I might have something to do with that...
-
We watched the eclipse, when we could see it between breaks in the thick clouds. Pretty cool!
My best friend called from Savannah, where she was able to see it, sans clouds.
-
I think JJ is a very beautiful kitty!
My cats are "hood-free". They do scatter litter and we have to sweep up after them every day. Also, one of hte problems of living in our small house is that there's no place to put the litter box where it will be out of the way. I'm working on a solution for that.

As for tonight's "American Idol".... There were some truly painfully pitchy moments throughout tonight's performances, and it sounded like one of the young women just had no sense of pitch throughout most of her song. :-\
However, there were some decent performances, and, overall, the women chose better songs than the men did last night.
-
...I'll finish watching Company sometime later. Although, I may flip back to catch "Being Alive"... and then listen to see if I can hear myself sobbing in the eighth row. ;)
-
Had a full and very ecclectic evening of viewing tonight.
I began with last night's JERICHO. Enjoyed the show, it had some nice surprises, and I'll look forward to the remaining five episodes.
That may be it, however. The ratings last night were discouraging with it finishing behind a LAW & ORDER: SVU rerun and a new episode of BOSTON LEGAL.
-
Next, I watched CHARLIE CHAN IN RENO. I had never seen it before, and I did not guess the identity of the murderer. Another strong transfer with some scratches on the right edge of the frame and a hair at one point. Otherwise, sharp, great black and white transfer with superb contrast. Fox really does THE best with these black and white transfers.

Wow, I think those would be very interesting!
-
I watched three bonus features on the disc too. Two of them were about Reno, and the third was about one of the actresses in the film who did several Chan mysteries.
-
By this point, AMERICAN IDOL had been running about 52 minutes, so I flipped on the DVR recording and watched until I had caught back up with the show (at this point it was about 25 after 9). I was unimpressed with almost everyone.
I think the really pitchy one DR Jose was referring to sang "Where the Boys Are" and it was really terrible. The judges fell all over three or four of the ladies totally undeserving, I thought. A couple of the African-American women do have powerful voices, but the songs they chose tonight didn't do much to showcase that power. I guess the one who sang "Spinning Wheel" was my favorite, but honestly, I didn't go wild over anyone.
Who goes home will be interesting.

DR MattH - <nod>

DR MBarnum - Any chance you'll be back in NYC the second week in March for THIS (http://metropolitanroom.com/index.php?option=com_jcalpro&Itemid=98&extmode=view&extid=587&recurdate=1205208000)?
Ah, darn!
-
Once I caught up to the live IDOL show, I flipped over to COMPANY where they were at the "pot scene." In the COMPANY that I was in, that scene always got very big laughs. I thought the audience sounded kind of dead during much of the scene. (The guy playing David was cute, cute, cute.)
-
You know, this season of BIG BROTHER is really bad.
BIG BROTHER is my favorite contestant show and I always enjoy it...but the contestants this time are really not very likeable or appealing at all.
But I guess I will still watch it.
-
DR JoseP, you do not have to belong to either Ebay or Paypal to get those spoof e-mails. My mom gets them all of the time and she has never used either.
-
I have just the opposite feeling about IDOL, DR MBarnum. I am unimpressed by almost everyone connected with IDOL this season, and I may very definitely stop watching this season. I will probably give them one more week to do something sensational (chalk up this week to opening night jitters.)
But last year we had already been wowed by Melinda Dolittle and the one who sang "And I Am Telling You."

I remember sitting in the audience during the first taping, and you could tell that people were wondering just how much they could react to the show - laughs, applause, etc. -Especially since there was a boom mic and a camera floating over the orchestra section, and two guys with steadi-cams running up and down the aisles.
-
I also lied earlier today when I said I had no more box sets. In looking over the stack of stuff waiting to be reviewed, I did have a two disc TV set called HUMAN GIANT. It's an MTV comedy show along the lines of SCTV, and I watched the first episode of that tonight (16 minutes), and it was hilarious. Never heard of these guys, and it was fall out of the chair funny. (Raunchier than SCTV, of course.)
-
Back from a three hour work session - had a bite to eat, and am now watching a motioni picture on DVD.

I still plan to record it tomorrow night in HD and watch it at some point over the weekend. I didn't get to see any musical numbers so of course I'm curious about how that all works out.
-
LAW & ORDER had a very absorbing case dealing with the death penalty in South Carolina, believe it or not. Very satisfying end to the story.
-
DR TCB - I think motion picture production itself is interesting, and Universal-International is a studio that also has special interest for me. And the budgets themselves are kind of a back stage look at how the business was run then.
Finding things like that.....and of course some crazed Orson Welles/Touch of Evil fan may want to pay me some $$$ for its budget someday....or it may just be junk to be tossed when I kick the bucket.
One of my favorite things I bought was a Warner Bros television memo to various departments telling directors to keep Connie Stevens from walking like an elephant in long shots on Hawaiian Eye, and to keep the actors from sitting on the furniture between takes....funny stuff.

Oh, I guess I should have also mentioned, that I had a "stolen e-Bay identity" issue last year, which, thankfully, was resolved after contact with e-Bay customer service. Even the customer service rep was surprised at what happened considering the last time I had logged into my account before dealing with that issue was two years(!) prior. Of course, it took me a while to realize that some of the "spoof" e-mails I was receiving weren't "spoofs" at all, and then after the issue was identified, I had to open each possibly spoof e-mail to make sure they were "legit". :-\

Well....I enjoyed COMPANY.....I think some of the performances were very good. I liked Raul very much. I thought the staging because of the actors playing the music wasn't as much fun or inventive as it might have been otherwise....mostly just a series of solving problems of who has to be where to be heard and to play....but very well costumed and lit, too.
Nice show. PWOJECT WUNWAY disappointed me greatly with the choice of the "fan favorite."
And yes DR GINNY - it's a Tri State final on Teen Jeopardy!!!
-
I think COMPANY strikes single people differently than it does married people...but then again, I guess I don't know how it strikes married people.
-
I think I got a few pics of the eclipse....I shall check them out in the morning.
-
I managed to watch COMPANY, well most of it AND see the lunar eclipse. I called my mother and Paul and we could all see it out our windows, which is a good think because it's really cold out. I should go look again, it won't be over for a while.
-
Regarding COMPANY:
Color me underwhelmed. Completely. Totally.
Unlike DR Ginny, I despised it more that I thought I would - for I like the recording very much.
Unlike DR Jose, I was tittering all through "Being Alive," as I was seeing and hearing the ghost of Anthony Newley possessing Raul Esparza's being. When he asked, "What do you get?" I replied out loud, "YOU get a Steinway!"
I've seen and heard better acting, musicianship and singing with drunken revelers in piano bars.
The camera work was, IMHO, atrocious.
The concept was pretentious crap.
I didn't catch a single moment of truth in any of the performances, well, possibly in Heather Law's Amy.
Normally, I love Barbara Walsh, but her Joanne was just a grating bitch.
Like DR elmore, I thought the whole thing looked like the orchestra was on strike.
My thoughts on PBS' COMPANY:
OUCH!
-

From what I saw of tonight's broadcast, I was sort of surprised at how many individual and close-up shots there were. The sense of the "carousel" of actors, and Bobby's self-isolation was a bit diminished.
And to pick up something that DR MattH mentioned... That was one of the most handsome and cutest and mature casts on Broadway at the time. ;)
-
Company kept me up way past my bedtime.
'night!
-
...And, actually, I don't like the sound of the OCR of this Company. However, the inclusion of the snippets of dialogue is a definite plus in my book.

VERY SLIGHT ADDING MACHINE SPOILER
I think THE ADDING MACHINE is an example of writers setting out to do what they wanted to do and doing it dazzlingly from a theatrical perspective, but it has a very bleak view of the world and who we are, a message that may keep people from recommending the show to their friends. I expect good reviews for its high quality, but fear for the show's commercial potential - it would have been easy for the creators of the musical to give the thing a hopeful spin, but they opted not to do so.
-
DR FJL - Thank you.
-
Spoo, got there too late with my ADDING MACHINE spoiler warning.
-
Did I already say this: Joe Farrell of TRADING SPACES FAMILY fame is excellent in ADDING MACHINE. I didn't realize it was he until reading the Playbill afterwards.
-
They did say COMPANY is available on DVD. They gave the phone number to call to order it at the end, I didn't see it on the website. You can call 1-800-336-1917 or mail order Company, P.O. Box 2284, South Burlington, VT 05407
It's $24.99 plus shipping
-
...And it would also have been nice to have a high-quality video and audio recording of Jessica Wright's "Amy". She played "Amy" during a good chunk of the Broadway previews while Heather Laws was having and recovering from the birth of her baby.
-
Spoo, got there too late with my ADDING MACHINE spoiler warning.
No worries. My friends in the show have already filled me in on all the "darkness". I still look forward to experiencing the execution.
-
Yes, I'll look forward to COMPANY not only for the score but (on a totally superficial level) for the eye candy.
Nice.
-
The missles hit the satellite, they are hoping it will come down in the Pacific Ocean. Hope they are right

I'm heading down to bed now.
Good night!

Awww... Joe Farrell - Truly one of the sweetest guys I've ever had the pleasure of playing for. And the boy has some range too!

I seen a movie like this one time and...and...and when like the satellite came down there was like this monster thing in it and the world was like a chaos and stuff.
This could be the beginning of a Bert I. Gordon movie!!! ;D
-
Well, I have another full day of dancing coal-miners and boogie-ing grandmothers tomorrow, so...
Goodnight.

I think a word is missing in this post....maybe not. :o

Raul is mucho handsome.
DR td - other than that, Mrs Lincoln, what did you think of the play?

They keep saying it's full of toxic fuel....what if it isn't really toxic fuel? What if it's some...some...monster thing from outer space :o
-
The guy playing Paul doesn't have a top lip....and Raul's coat didn't fit very well......
-
They keep saying it's full of toxic fuel....what if it isn't really toxic fuel? What if it's some...some...monster thing from outer space :o
Yea....and then....like the people open it up like....and it gets out....and like some teenagers see it and all. And then it like crawls to the city and all. And then it's like the end of the world, man.
The monsters are due on Maple Street!!! 8)
-
It is 13 degrees headed for 8 degrees.
Miss Blue Moon is sleeping indoors this evening. Snow and ice predicted for tomorrow night and Friday.
-
I guess DR JOSE is letting his post stand.
Everyone who had a taste of the Monkey Bread enjoyed it very much!!!
-
Those that watch Company did your versions also had words bleeped out or unbleeped? I read somewhere that some stations showed the unbleeped
-
Bleeped in Indiana....we didn't hear "Christ".......

I think a word is missing in this post....maybe not. :o
Oops. Post amended.

I think I will go to bed with Joan Crawford.....well not go to bed with Joan Crawford....go to bed and watch a Joan Crawford DVD or two!
-
Nothing bleeped in NYC.
-
OHH!!!!!!!!
I don't think his wife would have approved otherwise. ;)
-
And, once again...
Goodnight.
-
I hope the craze of the actors playing the instruments passes quickly.
-
Raul is mucho handsome.
DR td - other than that, Mrs Lincoln, what did you think of the play?
Raul IS handsome, BUT not on this PBS production.
The play, COMPANY, has always been one of my favorite musical theater books, believe it or not! I like Furth's New York-centric humor and his deftly drawn characters. I watched this entire show, wanting to like it, but. . .I couldn't rise to the occasion.
I don't lay the blame entirely on Doyle, though, I thought that the filming was a travesty. Lonny Price seemed to have misdirected the whole mess. Even broadcast in HD, the film was dark and dismal.
Oh! Did I mention the kazoo? ? ? Ptuiii!
-
Bleeped in Pennsylvania.
-
I hope the craze of the actors playing the instruments passes quickly.
That tuba wasn't an instrument, it was the flight attendant's travel bag!
-
I lasted a little over a half-hour before I turned it off.

Prolly not.

Ptuiii! That's what I heard.

I think it is time for a revival of THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT, THE SMELL OF THE CROWD. Starring Raul Esparza, of course.
Then he could take on STOP THE WORLD, I WANNA GET OFF.
I can see Raul as The Artful Dodger in a film of OLIVER TWIST.
Raul could also play Matthew in DOCTOR DOLITTLE.
Can we re-imagine HIERONYMOUS MERKIN for Raul as well?
Just some random thoughts. . .
-
Time for me to get some sleep.
Night
-
Company:
I do not like the conceit of the actors playing the instruments. Some numbers cried for a fuller orchestra.
I did not like that there was no "button" for the audience to applaude after The Ladies Who Lunch.
Was it me or that there was no "energy" in this production? Was this how Doyle directed it?
Side by Side/What Would We Do? the choreography marching in one place???
-
Oh, DR DearReaderLaura - you simply MUST see/hear the kazoo!
-
I have been thinking of selling my complete collection of DVDs on Ebay. But now I am not so sure.
I have almost 500 and would like to get $3-5 (or more for sets) for each one. I want to sell them as one big lot.
Any takers here?
-
Oh! One of the few things I did like with this COMPANY was the guitar-based accompaniment for "Someone Is Waiting."
-
The camera angles on Raul were sometimes not very flattering.
-
Is it proper to sell sets on the internet?

You could also go the route that DR Jose and I have gone - craiglist.com

Is it proper to sell sets on the internet?
Why not? The internet is for porn.

Der B, I do believe you are falling in love with a feline. Congrats
Not a first - years ago I was saddled with a crazy tortoise shell kitten which we named Samantha (Sam). She decided she owned me and wouldn't give my wife the time of day. She used to sleep on my sholder nestled against my neck! This was the cat that decided that the quickest way back into the house was to climb up on the roof and scurry down the chimney into the living room fireplace. On our moving trip betwen San Diego and Newport R.I. we spent the first night at a friends house in Westminster CA. Sam decided to have six kittens at the foot of the bed, under the covers, on my feet! The nest week we spent driving across country with Sam taking every chance she had to throw the damn kittens out of the car window - some Mother! Our house in Newport was a large three story colonial. Sam used to climb up on a porch roof, jump to a nearby tree, climb to the second floor and then jump over to the bedroom window where she would howl to be let in.
After Sam, JJ is quite normal.

I did develope an accute allergy that lasted for years - I hope it doesn't return. It was so bad that if we were invited to some one's home who had a cat, I would start having serious trouble breathing within 30 minutes and we would have to leave.

Which version - Heston or Kilmer?

The camera work was, IMHO, atrocious.
You don't like watching the singer's ear throughout half of the performance? And all the wide shots that should have been close-ups, and the close-ups that should have been wide shots?

My cousin is involved in rescuing American Eskies....

In from Seussical "tech". One day to tech, one day for dress, open Friday, close Saturday. Not bad tonight, it will definitely be a delightful show. Everything else kinda gets put on the back burner until Sunday :)
-
I attempted to TIVO Company on the one PBS station listed in the guide showing it this evening - but apparently THAT PBS station is not part of my stations that I get. My normal PBS station isn't showing it until Saturday - why?
-
I'm through viewing for the evening.
-
And then I wrote...
-
I just took a nice, long shower.
-
...I'll finish watching Company sometime later. Although, I may flip back to catch "Being Alive"... and then listen to see if I can hear myself sobbing in the eighth row. ;)
It just ended. Very good! Except that they had the camera right down his throat. :P
;)
-
Those that watch Company did your versions also had words bleeped out or unbleeped? I read somewhere that some stations showed the unbleeped
I don't know about the high def channels (it was on two), but the regular Seattle PBS showing was bleeped. :P

I think JJ is a very beautiful kitty!
My cats are "hood-free". They do scatter litter and we have to sweep up after them every day. Also, one of hte problems of living in our small house is that there's no place to put the litter box where it will be out of the way. I'm working on a solution for that.
I have my cat's litter box in the bathroom in one of the cabinets. I took out the shelf and put the box in the bottom of the cabinet. The only real problem is when Ebonie misses the box and pees on the cabinet floor. ::)
-
Well, I need to get to sleep.

But I'd like to wait until the new HHW day is here.

And when I get us to page 17!

But before I go, I did like Company. Except the shots down Raśl Esparza's throat. ::)
