'Crispy Frickin' Chicken' ad blasted for 'fornication' (http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57619)

Quote
A billboard campaign for "Crispy Frickin' Chicken" is ruffling the feathers of a Pennsylvania couple who believe the word "frickin'" is a "euphemism for fornication."

Michael and Sheri Sucec of Harrisburg, Pa., have asked supervisors in  Derry Township to join their fight against the placard promoting a Sheetz Made To Order sandwich.

Michael Pries, chairman of the supervisors, said no one else was crying fowl about the sign, but he assured Sucec he'd take a gander at the billboard.

Good morning, all!  I was up very early after peculiar dreams about Kurt Weill, Jerome Moross and rehearsals of their music.  I now want to hear the wonderful Moross song "Ridin' on the Breeze," but my copy of WINDFLOWERS: THE SONGS OF JEROME MOROSS is now in a carton in Oxford, OH!

I spent last night scoring "Maybe This Time" for the Lyric Stage in Texas, and after my Toyland work today, I'll begin the band parts.  I need to get thisnumber done because I have to jump into the charts for Patrick Cassidy ASAP.  I'd like to snd at least two of them to his copyist in LA on Monday.

I have to stop by R&H to pick up my authorized libretto for THE BRAIN this morning and drop off something for my friend Bruce pomahac.  I may take a moment to look at SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE and that  "On Broadway" vamp while I'm there.

What a lovely tribute from Muse Margaret!  It's so nice that she shared that story with you, bk, and you with us.

I truly believe that acts of kindness and the sharing of blessings and talents affect the world in ways great and small, and make differences that most of us will never know.

As Don Quixote [or is it Miguel de Cervantes?] says in Dale Wasserman's Man of LaMancha:

I hope to add some measure of grace to the world.

I actually disagree with what DRs MattH and Jose said.
Yes 2 of the 4 were very predicted (to me). Alex and Jason Y. I really thought that neither of them had much promotion during hollywood week. And add to that the fact that they did not sing well (and the judges did not say good things). Well i knew they were history.

As for the 2nd guy. I'm not saying he would have gone far. But i was a bit surprised.

But for me the big surprise of the evening was alaina.  She was not featured on the hollywood shows that i can remember. So she was at a disadvantage. But simon did proclaim her the darkhorse. And even though i did not think she did well on wednesday. I really felt like she had potential. She had a good voice. A good personality. And an "it" factor. and to me, of all, i am most disappointed that she is gone. I really think she had the potential to go a lot further.

I feel like this is one of the times when them not showing a contestant previously really damaged that person's chances.

yeah i know she did not do particularly well singing. But i feel like she was very young. And she would have grown.

I'm thrilled the child that Margaret watchs loved the Kritzer books so much.  It's nice to see that a child of today can appreciate it as much as someone who grew up approximately at the same time the book is set.

This trilogy should be on the reading list of high schools all over the country.

DR MBarnum re: your take on Big brother 9.

It's very interesting to read people's comments who don't read about the feeds.  I think you would be shocked that your nice people: chelsia, james and natalie are really quite pieces of work.

Natalie is good natured and easy going. I will give you that. But she is a bit too free with her body (to say it nicely). She is so needy to have matt like her that she has done some sexual favors for him. But she has also made out with probably every guy in the house! (most of them had a hot tub orgy a few nights ago).

I find chelsia and james pretty gross. It's hard to think that sometimes when they seem so nice on tv. But chelsia has made numerous horrific comments about amanda killing herself by noose. And james is a porn star. It's so funny that they make him out to be a sweet hero. He is not too nice in the house. :(

re: last night's show. Wow. Another good one. Although i did like the other ones better (desmond is not my fav).  I thought last night's show was interesting. But quite different from the others.

Dr RonP, I actually don't really have questions about last night's show. IT was confusing. BUt i wasn't really confused. If that makes sense.

What i was confused about yesterday was not so much what was happening. I was merely not understanding the comments that the guy in my local paper made for last week's show.

(this is what he wrote for reference:" Last week dropped an even more compelling clue and a potentially game-changing  play: it's possible that at least one of the post-crash survivors sneaked off the island without anyone in the outside world knowing it. The Oceanic Six in other words aren't necessarily limited to just six survivors")

I just did not know what he was referring to.

Anyhow re: last night's show. I always read this to help sort things out in my mind:
http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/Shows/Lost/Stories/My-Constant (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/Shows/Lost/Stories/My-Constant)

I actually thought that desmond going back and forth was not that hard to follow. It was just odd for the storyline (for me). I guess i could not really follow the purpose.

The end was interesting. So i guess daniel is nuts too! Although how come we haven't seen him passing out?

I liked the stuff with penelope and desmond. And the scenes with them on the phone made me cry.

I guess i'm just wondering how this new stuff fits into the story.

And i wish we could have seen some of the other cast members not just desmond (and briefly sayid and jack).

DR Jennifer, I admire your enthusiasm for the most lackluster bunch of semifinalists in the history of this show.

Even the best out of this bunch can't compare in any way, shape, or form to the groups of years past, and I feel so conned by the producers and judges who have never ceased proclaiming this the strongest bunch of singers in the history of the show.

Well, you can't blame Natalie...if I were cooped up in a house 24/7 with Matt, I would (in my dreams) be doing the same thing!  8)

As for James, being a porn star (well, he isn't really a star...it was only amateur stuff) doesn't make one a bad person...I am sure there are many very nice porn actors and actresses in the world...I wouldn't say he comes across as sweet on the show...he is cunning and playing the game very well and he is kind of fun.

I just like Chelsia's hair..she is a pretty gal.

As for the Friday Media Check:

Radio: WQXR.  -Although, I keep meaning to give a listen to WNYC sometime too.

CD Player:
"Debussy: Complete Works for Piano, Vol. 2" - Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, pianist - I can't wait for the final two installments in his series. Some truly wonderful, intelligent and beautiful playing.

The Little Mermaid - OCR

"Ask Me Again" - Nancy Lamott

"Backwoods Barbie" - Dolly Parton

"Just A Little Lovin'" - Shelby Lynne - My most played CD this week!  This is a tribute album to Dusty Springfield, however, the covers are far from note for note, arrangement for arrangement copies of the original. Shelby Lynn's voice is big and powerful, but she never overpowers the material.  In fact, she's reined herself in for most of the set.  She's backed for most of the tracks by a five piece band, sometimes even less, with stretches of her singing a cappella every now and then - no lush strings, no horn sections, but every bit as effective as they are notably different from the originals .  (Go Phil Ramone!)  Her rendition of "Anyone Who Had A Heart" has easily become my favorite alongside Dusty Springfield's (of course).

Sweet story about Margaret's "boys", BK.  I had my own "out of nowhere" nice moment courtesy of HHW just a few months ago when a lurker emailed me about the Greensleeves mp3 I posted a link to.  And another one that really made my day was years ago, after my band Aqabala had been featured in Jazziz Magazine, I got an email probably two or three years after the article/CD came out from some guy who said he'd been trying to find me to get more music from me for years.  It was a really touching thing to hear.

Here's a bit of Tony Sbordoni's OPERA LIST review of John Doyle's new production of PETER GRIMES at the Met.  Mr Doyle is sounding more like the emperor and the new clothes:

"This evening I attended the world premiere of a new oratorio whose music and text bore an uncanny resemblance to Britten's first operatic masterpiece Peter Grimes. This was not what I'd paid to see, but that's what was served up in director John Doyle's misguided production.

In attempting to portray the close minded, oppressive society which rejects those who are out of the norm, the director managed to drain the life out of a  passionate and harrowing work of art.

[in] this opera, drenched in the atmosphere of the sea not one hint is given of water or of the tools of the fisherman's trade -- not even so much as a net. The lighting is as  dark as the set. Even in moments where the sun shines in the text and music such as the Sunday morning scene, it is overcast in this fishing village."

At least Peter Grimes isn't singing about his new barber's chair while carrying about a little white coffin! Or maybe he is?

As for the Friday Media Check:

CD Player:

"Ask Me Again" - Nancy Lamott

Now it's my turn...

I agree 100% about Shelby Lynne's cd (maybe this means that DR SingDaw will get a copy, too).
Not only is a brilliant tribute but, more importantly, it stands on its own merits.
I don't think I'll tire of it anytime soon.

So, in my cd player are the above, mentioned by DR JOSE as well as:
Debbie Gravitte - DEFYING GRAVITY (worth it just to have her rendition of "Junk Man").
Eagles - COMPLETE GREATEST HITS
BROADWAY UNPLUGGED VOLUME 2
David Burnham's solo album
HALF A SIXPENCE - film soundtrack
STROUSE, SCHWARTZ AND SCHWARTZ - I thought I'd plotz during Andrea Martin's "No Time At All."  I love Dale Kristien's "Once Upon a Time," too.  "The Telephone Hour" cracks me up.  Still, Guy Haines sings the best "Corner of the Sky" ever, so why didn't they get him for the concert?

DVD:
Viewed HALF A SIXPENCE - it has its charms but it also has many, many faults.
FINIAN'S RAINBOW

SHOOT 'EM UP

THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE
RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY

Lining up:

DR TD,

I watched JAB WE MET the other day....wow! What a fun movie! Did you know what Kareena Kapoor just won best actress for that film at the Filmfare Awards (India's Oscars)...she deserved it...I never cared much for her but she was great in this film!

Shahid wasn't too bad, either!

I'm back. Life's been cuckoo. I've got a class 2 nights a week, choir twice a week & Grandma's been here since Tuesday. My great-aunt passed away & the memorial service is this evening. And here I was looking forward to doing something happy for Leap Day.

The Requiem I'm singing in is coming up quickly. March 16th! Yikes!

I've also been on the hunt for a place to stay in Portland, in April.
The second Too Much Coffee Man Opera is premiering & I HAVE to go.
I've got some friends up there & I put the word out, but I haven't gotten any responses. *sigh* Last time I stayed with a friend in Seattle & we drove down. I haven't heard from her, either. I need my TMCM Opera fix!

That is all.

this was re: my conclusion of what we saw in the last scene with daniel's book saying "if i get into trouble then desmond is my constant" (or something to that effect).

Well i suppose all we know for sure is that daniel would use desmond the same way that desmond used penny.  However i don't think i'm the only one who believes that daniel is a bit off his rocker (and wasn't he being cared for by a nurse or something in the first episode we saw him in)(i don't really remember this but that is what i read).

And i don't think i'm the only one who thinks that daniel has timetravelled and that he's using desmond as his constant. I know the writing wasn't in his book before. But there has to be more to it than simply showing us the writing. To me it meant that daniel was going to try to timetravel. and he wrote that in his book so he'd know it. If he wasn't having these problems (like desmond and the other guy who died) or if he wasn't intentionally timetravelling. Then why write it? I can't believe that they would show us that simply in case daniel had a problem in the future.

So you really believe that daniel had never had any "episodes" because the note was not there when he and desmond were talking on the phone.

I don't know maybe that him telling desmond to contact him changed things. Because after i wrote what i wrote i went and read some of the posts on televisionwithoutpity (about last night's show). and more than one person thought the same thing i did. That after desmond in 1996 found daniel, that daniel then timetravelled.

The neighbor in 2B is moving out today.  Her mother told me she had not only a horrible bed bug infestation but bird mites from all the pigeons hanging out on fire escape, which I've claimed since January is the source of the infestation.

Will you be warning any potential renters of the situation?  Putting signs up and stuff?  If they can't rent the place maybe they will work harder at getting rid of the infestation.

The pigeons can live on the fire escape, and hang out around outdoor restaurants.  But Sherlock, who is kept beautifully groomed, is considered a health hazard.

Balderdash!

I am a bit more enthusiastic about the girls. But i agree. I really dislike most of the contestants. ANd don't find most of them to be strong at all.

I always prefer to stick with what I actually see and try to avoid speculation about what I "might" (and might NOT) learn about the characters' future.

The first time I saw a Daniel "flashback", he was crying while watching a newscast about the wreckage having been found.  He was inconsolable.  The lady who walked up to him spoke to him as though she were his wife or girlfriend.  There was nothing antiseptic/hospital-like/or nursel-like in that scene that I recall.

Nothing, IMO, implied Daniel had time-traveled.

Daniel knew about time travel.  I also know he knew that all his experiments led to death.  It was present-day Daniel's belief that anyone afflicted must have a "constant" (i.e. someone or something in common with the afflicted person in the present and any "other place/time"), and Desmond proved it for him.  Yes: The note was a warning to Daniel that IF he ever got into trouble (meaning to me he has NOT YET been afflicted), then Desmond should be his constant.  And the "constant" idea was a theory Daniel had about the communications man on the ship.  The folks on the ship didn't want Daniel telling anyone anything about what might help them.  It was his advice to Desmond that saved him, but he gave no clue that it was something he had actually tested himself.  There may be more to Daniel than meets the eye....but none of what you say above was actually revealed/implied in any part of the show that I watched.  Daniel "may have" time-travelled and discovered the "constant" was his own key to survival.  But nothing in that show implied that at all.  I am certain it's guesswork on the part of those espousing such a thing.

Imagination is a great thing, and I think a lot of it goes into the posts at TelevisionWithoutPity...lots of speculation" ..."what ifs", and so on.  singdawslopshogs slacksjaw smackscrawstacksstrawand so onandsoonad infinitum.

Michael Ruhlman has a great rant about fat and salt in our diets (http://blog.ruhlman.com/ruhlmancom/2008/02/food-rant-ameri.html#comments), over in his blog.

Quote
Americans have a hopelessly neurotic relationship with what they consume, of this there’s little disagreement, a neurosis that’s built into our culture from the broadest levels of agriculture and government, which demand that we subsidize farmers to grow crops you can’t eat without industrial processing, all the way down to our grocery store shelves, which are packed with confusing, marketing-spun messages about what’s good for us and what’s not.

Snackwells, for instance.   Who’s the clever executive who came up with that name?  Want a healthy snack?  Try buying ... Snackwells!   Are Americans stupid enough to buy that?  You bet!  (More here from Trib article on the Snackwell story.)

Just about every box and bag on the grocery store shelves has some kind of  “low fat” version, sometimes even if the real version doesn’t require fat in the first place.  On a recent flight, I  was handed a Quaker Oats Granola Bar—granola, it’s good for you, and it’s low fat.  Granola doesn’t need much fat, if any, in the first place; but it does need sugar and you can bet that’s the reason my Quaker Oats “low fat” granola bar was every bit as sweet and chewy as a Milky Way bar.  And on the previous flight, the first ingredient in the blueberry muffin I’d been given was sugar, not flour.

And, with that, I've got to head over to work, so I can assist people in their pursuit of Snackwells.

I meant to comment on BK's mentioning of RONIN and THE TRAIN in the notes.

I have a slight bit more admiration for RONIN than BK, but it's not all that good, it's true.

I LOVE the movie THE TRAIN. My DVD is nonanamorphic, and that is my biggest gripe about the DVD. The movie is terrifically entertaining.

I spent the afternoon time remaining watching BONES episodes upconverted. They are SO near-HD quality when upconverted.

I read a review of BONES season 2 in which the writer lamented the poor quality of the transfers, but boy do we have different DVD sets! I think it's the best TV-to-DVD transfers out there. I saw none of the problems he quoted about the show's quality of image. Weird.

I did have time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke and Noah, but they did figure in one scene in the previews for next week, and, of course, that ridiculous Imira is at the forefront of the problems.

BLECH!!!!

I'm really surprised they past any sort of taste test(ers).  They really don't taste good.  It's almost like they left any sort of sweetener - regular or artificial - out of the recipe.  Sort of bitter and harsh, imho.  Although, I think the "formula" they used last year - or was it the year before that? - for whatever the fat-free, sugar-free variety they used was even more unpalatable. -I think it was a cappucino-chocolate cookie. :-\

I turned down an invitation to a rehearsal with our DR Josr this evening because I've got too much work, but I forgot that I've committed myself to a dinner party tonight!  Oy!

I'd rather be working or seeing a rehearsal, but it's friends I haven't seen in a long time so that will be nice.

Well... If it makes you feel any better, DR elmore, I won't be going to the dress rehearsal tonight due to some crazy "confirmation" process which was not passed on to a couple of the cast members.  I could probably still get in tonight, but I don't feel like dealing with any possible attitude from the Lincoln Center ushering staff.  But, no worries - I'd rather see it once the show is a bit more settled.  *And since this director is sort of known for "interesting" tech processes, well... ;)

I took my Bill Evans on Verve box set down there to see what they'd give me.  I informed Mr. Yokel that it was quite rare and quite out of print and that the cheapest copies on amazon were $400 and that it had sold for $300 new.  His response?  "It's not rare to us."  Now, keep in mind that I've seen it for sale twice in the last six months - sold both times for $250.  He offered me $66 in credit.  I offered not to give it to him.  I've just listed it for sale on amazon.com (the first item I've ever listed there) for $275.00.  Since that's below the list price and since the cheapest copies are $400 I'm hoping it'll sell.

DR George, I, also, love the SIDE SHOW art work.  The feather is the feather in the cap, so to speak. . . >:(

There are those who find FREAKS an unbearable film to watch, but, it's one of my favorites from the 1930s.  I had become entranced by Daisy and Violet Hilton while watching FREAKS on Channel 11's "Chiller Theater," hosted by Bill Cardille, one late, late Saturday night.

If you get the chance, DR George, track down the marvelous biography of The Hilton Sisters which was recently published:  The Lives and Loves of Daisy and Violet Hilton: A True Story of Conjoined Twins by Dean Jensen.

Rock also had a great agent, if not a nice human being, and a secretary willing to go the extra mile.  And that extra mile continued following Rock's death.

Someday, some talented screen writer or playwright will do the Phyllis + Rock story justice.  Neither of them were saints.

Then again, I don't suspect that Katie Holmes is a saint, either.

I hope there is a quick fix and you have heat tonight.

I hope so too.  I have an electric blanket, and a space heater, so... Hopefully, I won't have to use either one tonight.

I've also been listening to Swedish group  BWO's "Sunshine In The Rain". It's a totally "infectious" pop song."

TCB,
WIRE IN THE BLOOD is a British TV mystery series based on the novels of Val McDermid. Robson Green plays Dr Tony Hill, a clinic psychologist. Usually pretty gritty. Also quite good.

Besides, one of my roommates is currently cooking Boeuf Bourguignon.   Definitely no starving artists here.  ;)

My fave part of La Boheme is where the friends make the ultimate sacrifice of giving up their muff and hevay coat - in June.  Or am I remembering it wrong?

I had a pretty good time with LIL' BUSH. No, it's not as funny as SOUTH PARK, and the satire is pretty one-note, I thought. But there were a couple of genuine laughs in every episode (12 episodes of about 10 minutes each are combined into 6 half hour (if you include commercials) episodes.

The dinner turned out to be my friends' 6th wedding anniversary, since they married on Feb 29, 1984. There were twelve for dinner inclkuding their sons William, who's in high school, and James, who got home today for spring break.  My friend Alice and I misbehaved, and we had a wonderful time.  It was a lot of fun and I'm quite tipsy.

So to bed.

I also watched all the bonus features, too. There was one extra episode which never aired. It was going to be used in place of the "Lil' Dick Chaney goes to hell" story if that episode had to be pulled if Chaney had died after his health scare. The CHaney episode was far funnier than the unaired episode (though it was a pretty pointed condemnation of the government over letting Walter Read Hospital get so run down.)

There was a featurette where we meet the voice cast and the creator of the show.

And we got to sit on six minutes of the table read watching the few main actors do a myriad of voices. Very interesting to watch them change body language and facial expressions getting into character to change up who they were acting.

After I finished that, I decided to watch something for fun - MADAME X. Lovely transfer except those few close-ups of Turner that were obviously optically zoomed (must not have had coverage during the original shooting) and were overly grainy and soft. It didn't look like soft focus photography but rather shots where they needed a close-up and had to create one from existing footage.

And Keir Dullea! Never did he look more gorgeous than in this film. Why didn't he turn out to be a bigger star? Had some prime roles in the movies and on Broadway and then nothing.

Yes, they do. However I have yet to see one.

Went to an art show which featured one of my mom's paintings and then I drove over to my friend Jim's house and had curried chicken. Afterwards we watched several episodes of The Twilight Zone.

They certainly did like to cast Billy Mumy in that series a lot.
