Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little Soylent Green flavor, and now it is time for you to post until the Soylent Green cows come home.  One thing we know is that Soylent Green isn't cows.

DR Matt H.: as bk reported, the Camelot concert cast is not yet announced, although DR JoseSPiano seems to have an inkling.

Audra is rumored for Guinevere, but that is not confirmed at this point.

Oh, and speaking of Patti, here's her mother's chicken soup recipe:

Get yourself one big, sweet juicy bird. Wash her inside and out including the giblets. Fill up a big pot with cold, clean water, and put the bird and the giblets in. Let her cook, skimming off all that junk that rises to the top. While she's cooking, open up a couple of big cans of Italian peeled tomatoes. You are going to use the liquid as well. Chop up an onion, celery, carrots, and peel a lot of garlic (leave the cloves whole). When the bird is cooked through, take it out, let it cool and then pull the chicken off the bone with your hands. Use your hands to create a masterful chicken soup. Put that chicken meat back into the pot with all of your veggies and the cans of Italian peeled tomatoes (hand crush those tomatoes into the soup). Add salt and pepper and fresh Italian flat leaf parsley. Cook it up, eat it, yum, yum, yum.

You can add shell pasta or rice (cooked separately).

I've been listening to some Robert Miles tracks.

It's rather like Phillip Glass with more notes and thus more interest!
(It's probably more like Mike Oldfield's work).

I've also been listening to some Pacific Gas & Electric tracks.
One track is used in the newest Tarantino film. (not that I shall be viewing it).

Thanks to DR MBARNUM for the Snake Dance clip yesterday.....a little short on dancers, but fun.

DR JOSE - Lafayette Jefferson is an Indiana High School, and even though that routine was GRAND CHAMPION, I wouldn't give it high marks.  The singing was pretty bad, and I hate Swing Choir "choreography".  That example is especially bad because it really interferes with the singing.  The group would move while they were singing and then stay in position during the the times they were silent.  And the soloists, particularly the guy was off key.

I really hate show choirs.  And when I say anything, I get told that they teach everyone so much about performing, which may be why we get the singers and dancers we get now at auditions.

If we banned Show Choirs, it would be a small loss.  As Meredith Willson said about the Jews' Harp:  "Never have the efforts of so many resulted in the entertainment of so few."

The usual, human response to a New Moon (at 9:15 this morning PST) is to develop a gung-ho attitude that can't be stopped - at least for many hours or a couple of days. The problem here is that you reach another peak of excitement and stimulation as the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Pisces (11:05AM PST), but this union starts a void lunar cycle that lasts until 6:24AM PST tomorrow. Pull in the reins somewhat this afternoon and evening. It is still fine to become a computer geek and high-tech explorer, but it's better to go with the flow than starting up costly and time-consuming business ventures.

Morning all. Sorry I was not around to respond to Dear Tom's greeting.

I will be off to Long Island after work today. I will be there until Sunday. Ant will stay a couple of extra days and then he's back Wednesday to begin a new round of auditions for possible summer work.

I'm listening to the 1997 Broadway Candide, the York Theatre Merrily and my recent transfer of Gotham.

Horses for Courses. I LOVED Wicked the book. I like the musical but the book is a complete and different article without the beefed up role for Glinda.

For later viewing I was just given some DVDs which will brighten up our viewing evenings.

The word 'prepone' is found in The New Oxford Dictionary of English, published 1998. It is listed as being Indian (from India) and is defined as: to bring forward to an earlier date or time. Example given: The publication date has been preponed from July to June

Good morning, all!  I have a trek to Toyland this morning followed by a luncheon with Miss Pamela Myers of "Another Hundred People" and Mrs Tom Jones aka Janet Watson.  After that, a few odds and ends about the apartment need to be taken care of.

I have not much else in the way of news for the nonce. so here's the TOD:

Regarding the cat adoption discussion, I was really surprised that they would only adopt to people with a fenced in yard. Not only wouldn't that keep a cat in, but what if they want to have an indoor cat? The two we have that were strays never exhibit a desire to go outside. They know they have it good!
Title: Re:SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE

And as for the feline leukemia/aids---if a cat is going to be an "only cat" or could be adopted by someone who had another cat with it, why not, if they are able to be indoor only cats?

A friend in LA who adopted from a shelter told me that their rules are stricted than if you were adopting a child. I thought she was kidding, but maybe she wasn't!

DR Ben is right about WICKED the Book and WICKED the Musical being different beasts entirely. However, unlike him, I enjoyed the musical book much more than the novel which is very dark and as it winds though the final chapters almost unrelentingly depressing.

Yes, I kind of like SOYLENT GREEN. I think by this time, I had realized that Charlton Heston's time had passed as an action star, and there seemed to be a sameness in everything he did around this period. (OMEGA MAN, SOYLENT GREEN, AIRPORT 1975, EARTHQUAKE).

And I keep waiting for Disney to send the Blu-ray of ENCHANTED. Sometimes they are weeks ahead of street date with their review copies (makes it so much easier when they give a long lead time). Other times, they're too close to street date or, as with THE ROOKIE, past street date.Wonder why they're so inconsistent?

Happy Frigga's Day! Last week I (finally)acquired a copy of ANYA; One song sung by Constance Towers(A New World?)was, acc. the liner notes, based on Rachmaninoffs 2nd symphony; So I went out and bought a copy, Andre Previn/LSO; It's very beautiful and there was Miss Tower's ballad in the adagio; En rout home tonite, will be Ruggle of Red Gap, which I already had on vinyl but ordered the new CD cause there's bonus tracks by Jane Powell, and I left my vinyl at the Booth stage door last spring as a gift for Miss Redgrave; Tonight, no DVD, but a movie in the Theeyatuh, an Eng Heist movie, THE BANK JOB, with fave Jason Statham..and yes that Julie Andrews twofer is wonderful; When her book comes out, I'll not only buy the book, I'll buy the book on CD just to listen to her lovely voice.

Another disc I should have put in my Friday Media Check is the Blu-ray of SUPERMAN RETURNS. I got it for CHristmas and haven't had a chance to watch it. I had the sDVD and thought it was a soft, fuzzy mess; reviews have said the Blu-ray is a much better encoding. I hope so.

The movie was only fair, I thought. Some good action scenes but way too long for the story they had to play and rather grim, not playfully comic book-like at all. SUPERMAN and BATMAN should not have the same tone.

I am breathlessly anticipating Ben's revelation to John Locke about "who" his contact on the ship is.  When Ben said, "You won't believe me", my mind instantly went into overload and I started thinking about "who" it truly might be...and it HAS to be someone John Locke knows.  I had one person in mind almost immediately, but then the previews knocked that idea out of my head as scenes on the boat showed some rather interesting reactions from Sayid.

That entire episode with Juliet and Jack heading for the power station and Juliet encountering that "whaterveritwas" representing Ben was quite interesting.  That Ben "knows" what's going on and can send "emissaries" in the form of images to people around the island is amazing.  I'm also thinking he can "block" people from seeing what's there, too (the "shack" not being where John remembered it being and the little smile on Ben's face when Locke asked him where it was in an earlier episode).

I'm also thinking that Claire may start asserting herself a bit more in the encampment.  She made a very good argument to John about his treatment of the "prisoner" from the boat.

I'm loving this season more and more with each episode!

Still sick.  Oy.

TCB, you crack me up with magnificent consistency.  Thank you.  ;)

Re:  Gary McFarland.  Back in my wasted yout', I used to invite Jehovah's Witnesses in to my house for little debates on scripture.  Now I am not a doctor of philosophy or anything, but with my, shall we say, eclectic religious upbringing, coupled with my knowledge of Hebrew and at that time Classical Greek (which I was studying as part of my Masters), I was a smartypants and liked watching the JWs squirm as I pointed out various inconsistencies in scripture.  All of which went out the window one day when one of them came in, saw all my music lying around and heard a McFarland LP (remember those?) playing (which he recognized), and told me he knew Gary and would introduce me if only I came to Kingdom Hall (or whatever it's called) with him.  I declined.   ;D

Thanks for the warning, Jack--I think.  ???  ???  ???

My question is of course is if they don't accept underpants from the outside, why are Tuesday and Thursday, underpants days?  Are those the only days that underpants can be offered and refused?

Underpants day is in one county in Iowa...there is never an underpants day in the other county in Nebraska, but if you can't buy underpants there, they will give them to you when you arrive, so I guess that means in Nebraska, every day is underpants day!!

I've had quite an event-filled day!  A lovely lunch with Pamela Myers and Janet Watson, which was filled with lots of dish and laughs.  We met at the Key West Coffee Shop on Broadway at 94th, and Michael Feingold was sitting not far from us.  When he and his luncheon companion were leaving, he stopped and I introduced them to Pam and Janet.

After lunch, more errands, including more prescription refills from my doctor.  I also made an appointment for him to check me out for toxins and poisoning from all this damned pesticide.

I got a bit more bug cleaning this afternoon before I start some more work.

Fulfilling my worst fear, it started raining VERY hard once I got to the grocery store. No parking spaces close, so it was a walk in and out. About an hour after I got home, it stopped raining, and has remained stopped all afternoon. However, it's still dark and stormy looking and I'm sure we're in for some more rain - probably when we go out to eat tonight. (My friend Gregg is in town this weekend.)

Since I'm going out to eat tonight, I didn't have to fix much for lunch. Still, while I prepared that and ate, I watched last night's NEW AMSTERDAM. A better episode than the pilot, I thought, with an interesting case and even more interesting revelations about John's earlier life. Quite full of surprises.

Really am loving the show and hope it catches on once it's away from the IDOL carry-over audience.

Next, I watched THE ICE STORM on the soon-to-be-released Criterion 2-disc set. The film looks beautiful, and the Dolby Surround sound is the best I've ever heard the movie sound.

Of course, the film is deeply melancholy and full of pain. When it was over, I wanted to watch something silly like the Marx Bros. just to lighten the mood.
Title: Re:SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE
Post by: Matt H. on March 07, 2008, 01:20:43 PM
I didn't have the Marx Bros. at hand, so I put in the next silliest thing readily available, today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, Luke and Noah were on, planning on doing the very thing I predicted would happen with Imira.

Now, let me make some more predictions.Noah and Imira will marry, even though Noah swears it will only be platonic. Events will transpire that will cause them to become more than an "in-name-only" couple. Noah will be deeply in love with Imira when he learns from his father that they're actually half brother and sister.

NEW AMSTERDAM seems to be doing a better job of co-ordinating the back-flashes than did Journeyman. Also, John's willingness to have others close to him share his secret makes for more interesting plotting.

I wonder what sort of counter-programming the other networks will do.

The word 'prepone' is found in The New Oxford Dictionary of English, published 1998. It is listed as being Indian (from India) and is defined as: to bring forward to an earlier date or time. Example given: The publication date has been preponed from July to June

I recently finished reading THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN, a tale of murder, insanity, and the making of the Oxford English Dictionary.  It was very interesting.

Bravo!  I can never stand to hear the song "Hi, Neighbor" because the Wilson High School Swing Choir started every single concert with that damn song.

Oh come Uranus is always in the middle of everything, Jrand?

Friday morning greetings!  According to WHIO-TV, we are now in the throes of our 17th snow event this winter - the first one was Dec. 5, the day I saw DR Jason in A Christmas Carol.  And this could be THE BIG ONE, with double-digit accumulations predicted.  My drive into work wasn't bad, but I'm concerned about the drive home and tomorrow (a workday for me).

I am no longer amused by winter.

Spring is arriving here in the Pacific Northwet.

I think it just depends on how long it takes your postal clerk to repackage the evidence once he finishes with the free DVDs.

I got in just before the downpour began.  I guess we're do for storms till tomorrow evening, so I'm happy o work on various and sundry here at home.  I had a great afternoon washing down four shelves of CDs with ammonia to clean off the dust and cut down the potential mite population.  Tomorrow, I think I'll do the other four.  I've got a bit of FANTASTICKS work for Harvey Schmidt to move on to, and I finally received today my contracts with Rodgers & Hammerstein for my work in getting THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X ready for their theatre catalog.  The biggest part of that is that I have to write out a book of the vocal parts.

I just spoke to my brother Randy and he says that Macbeth told him it was time to bury the hatchet with me. Randy's comment to me was that he wanted to ask him, where? in my head?

Next, I watched THE ICE STORM on the soon-to-be-released Criterion 2-disc set. The film looks beautiful, and the Dolby Surround sound is the best I've ever heard the movie sound.

Of course, the film is deeply melancholy and full of pain. When it was over, I wanted to watch something silly like the Marx Bros. just to lighten the mood.

ROMEO AND JULIET would be light and silly next to THE ICE STORM.

I went to the doctor today with what I thought was a ear infection. Turns out I have TMJ... and a cold. There's nothing wrong with my ears or my sinuses. But apparently I've been grinding my teeth on a regular basis for quite awhile. And the last few nights when I've woken up with my ear/jaw throbbing, it's been from how strongly I've been grinding and clenching my jaw. My doctor advised me to go to the dentist, to get a mouth guard so I don't cause further damage to my teeth, and most importantly- to reduce my stress level.

As for today's auditions...

First the Good News:

Today's "Gimme, Gimme" (Thoroughly Modern Millie not Mamma Mia!) count: 0 (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)  :)

The Bad News:

"Not For The Life Of Me" (Thoroughly Modern Millie): 4 (maybe 5, since I may blocked it out.  Alas, there was one group where two girls sang it - with only one other auditionee between them.  However...

The Good News:

"And They're Off" (A New Brain) was sung a few times today.  -I love playing it.

The Bad News:

Two gentlemen ended up singing it back to back at the beginning of the afternoon session.

-However, they both sang it well.  :)

I declined.   ;D

That reminds me of my friend in DC who lives in Dupont Circle - basically D.C.'s Gay Central - who would always invite the cute Mormon boys that would go from door-to-door in his neighborhood into his apartment to "talk" with them.  My friend was/is a preacher's son, so he was always able to have fairly heated and equal debates with them.  In fact, he thinks he was put on some special list, since there was a time where he was visited five times in a two month period!  ;)

Had a great dinner out tonight at a place I'd never been to before. Delish. I had spaghetti and meatballs, and they served a house salad that's one of the best I've had in a long time. Wonderful garlic bread, too.

We came back and watched the GREAT PERFORMANCES HD version of COMPANY. Gregg hadn't seen it, and I was glad to watch it again. Still find it erratic in effect. Some of it is truly wonderful, moving even. SOme of it leaves me cold and indifferent.

I'm going to say that the excellent vibes and xylophones are, at this time, working, and the good news could be getting closer to being great news.  So, keep 'em coming.  I'm hoping to have final word next week some time and let me tell you, you dear readers will be the first to know and you will all WANT to be the first to know, that much I can tell you.  I suppose I can also tell you it involves a potential release for Kritzerland.

Then I watched Wednesday night's RENO 911! Not one of their better efforts. I'm not sure I laughed once.

No additional writing to do tonight, so I guess I'll just head on down for bed now.

Good night!

Hmm... Very "interesting" review of the current New York Philharmonic concerts... Well, at least of their horn section...

Wow, I can't believe it. I read that my old Gateway 200 ARC that is a real piece of you know what laptop has an easy fix.  You just have to open the hard drive case, reattach the cable and tape it really well.  Seems it comes loose very easily.

So, I did it and the thing works again. what do you know.  I'm downloading updates right now....44 of them!

It's not recognizing a modem, but that may be ok. The wireless is working, so if I can get the internet and my email to work, I'll take it to Tucson Green Valley.  I can always check my email at my parents' place on my dad's computer.  He's on dial up there, so it will be slow, but it would work.

It's probably worth a try. I hate lugging my good lap top around on planes and through airports. This one weighs 2 pounds.  It's great when it works.

It's doing pretty well actually.  I think I could easily take this on the road. At least I know how to fix it now which is great.  I didn't lose any data at all. When I called Gateway years ago to get this thing fixed I lost all the data several times.

It has been so long since my injured foot and ankle hurt I thought I was cured.  Today I returned to jogging, not much and it was on the soft flat trail.  Now the arch of my foot really hurts.  DANG!

Tonight, we had a run-through of Side Show.  It actually went quite well, except at the very end when the cast comes on and sings the reprise of "Come Look at the Freaks."  I will have to admit that I didn't have it memorized but then NO ONE ELSE really did either! :o So, I don't feel too bad about it...there's safety in numbers (a Boy Friend reference ;)), you know.
