Well, you've read the notes, the notes were green, and now it is time for you to post until the green cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOPOROSE!
-
Welcome nineteen GUESTS.
-
And a very happy yesterday birthday to my very own darling daughter. It took me a while to figure out who JB was, as I always think of her as JK. But that was just here - I did leave her a darling message and sent her a darling e-mail, and a darling little gift is winging its way to her.
-
Make that twenty-two GUESTS. Doesn't it make you wonder who's up reading this late?
-
Make that twenty-three GUESTS.
-
I often wonder why I am the only person who is up and reading so late.
-
And then it hits me.
-
Okay, this is a little wacky - welcome forty-three GUESTS. I think that's some sort of record, frankly. Who ARE you people?
-
I must warn you Bretty, I am a consummate night owl!
-
(http://logo.cafepress.com/4/395077.1107894.jpg)
-
Make that forty-eight GUESTS. Will we top fifty? I feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
-
I have heard rumours that they are escapees from Roswell...
-
Okay, is someone trying to gaslight me? Welcome fifty-six GUESTS. What do we have here - the Irish sweepstakes?
-
I must warn you Bretty, I am a consummate night owl!
I think of a warning more like, "Hey! He's got a knife!" or "Don't drink from her glass; she's got a cold!" I'm glad you're a night owl. Then I won't be lonely!
-
The St. Patrick's Day parade?
-
Fans of The Brain From Planet X?
-
There's a recording of "Too Many Mornings" (I think it's the one with Betsy Joslyn for the Book-of-the-Month-Club Records) where she sings "I meant to wear green."
-
Seventy-six GUESTS. Someone explain this to me. Is this a spambot thing?
-
Seventy-six GUESTS - I wonder if they brought their trombones?
-
:o 83 guests??
-
Can you imagine if they'd all post?
-
Seventy-six GUESTS. Someone explain this to me. Is this a spambot thing?
It's a trombone thing.
-
We've never had close to eighty-six GUESTS. Maybe it's - I don't know WHAT it is.
-
Eighty-eight GUESTS. Anyone for a hundred?
-
We've never had close to eighty-six GUESTS. Maybe it's - I don't know WHAT it is.
Word has obviously gotten out that I am participating in these discussions!
-
It's now up to 93!
-
It can't be real, can it? But why would it happen out of the blue or, in the case of today, out of the green?
I should have Lorne Greene - I Lorne Green the last time.
-
Ninety-four GUESTS.
-
I do hope we don't have the same sort of thing, GUEST-wise that we've been having with new registered users, which is, of course, definitely spambot-related.
-
Can you have GUEST spambots? Doesn't make any sense to me, but neither does this many GUESTS, when the most we've EVER had prior to this is about twenty-five.
-
One hundred GUESTS. Call me crazy. Call me Bwana. Call me Ishmael, but I don't get it.
-
All this talk of ghost guests got us to Page 2!
;)
-
And here's the proof!
-
I gotta tell you. These Irish.
-
Still going up. It's obviously not impacting us in terms of too many people on the site, so that's good.
-
Well, I have to go to work in the morning, so I'm off to bed. Good night, BK, Bretty and Dakota!
-
It got up to 108 and now it's at 102. Maybe this madness is ending.
-
97...
-
Finally going down - ninety-eight GUESTS.
-
Gotta go...good night, all!
-
I have to go to sleep too.
But not really.
-
Goodnight fifty-seven GUESTS, whoever you were.
-
Organzing the pics and I should be able to post shortly...
-
Leprechauns??
-
Since it is a magical day of Irishness!! However my pics do not have lot of green but far more white, red, and various other shades of rocks < GRIN!!!>

Morning all. It's 8:03 and I must be off to work. I got a late start catching up and have little time to post, other than to say I loathed Blood Brothers. My friend adored it and cried like a baby at the end.

St. George and Dixie State.....
DD Miss Dixie Bell feels honored, to say the least.
-
Good morning, all! Page 3 at 7:45 am? Well, good gracious!
This morning I see my doctor since I'm worried about my toxin levels, and we'll see if he dismisses me with a "you're okay" or orders a few tests. I may have to give him a lecture on the treatment of bed bugs and mites as well. After that, since I accomplished little after my naphthalene scare, I've got a bit of Toyland writing here.
Last night I watched the first two episodes of JOHN ADAMS, and I cannot recommend this series highly enough. It was nice to see old friends John Dossett and David Morse, even if they had no scenes together, cast in the same production: when I worked with them, it was arranging the music for and MD'ing a Circle Rep Theatre Lab student production directed by the Theatre Lab director, Stuart White, one of the first AIDS casualties I knew personally. Stuart was one of the most talented directors I've ever known and he should have had a huge career. His companion Clifford Stone, a novelist who had written a beautiful novel THE GREAT SUNFLOWER, died soon after Stuart.
I had met Stuart through a Miami University theatre student Rebecca Bondor, who was in the Circle Rep Theatre Lab, at a party thrown by a playwright in the Theatre Lab, Paula Cizmar (who wrote a wonderful play DEATH OF A MINER). The next day, Stuart called me and said, "you're really funny; we should work on a project together and I have something at the Theatre Lab." The "project" was a showcase for the students, and the rehearsals went on for several years because students tok acting jobs and left the group for six weeks and Stuart would postpone production. In the meantime, he would come and see things I was working on, and I remember seeing David Morse in a beautiful production at WPA of THE TRADING POST, which Stuart directed.
The "project" at the Theatre Lab turned out to be a revue of 1930s materal, and after rehearsals, Stuart and I would walk uptown together singing in harmony Rodgers & Hart's "I'll Tell The Man In The Street." The longer the project got delayed, the crazier my schedule became and I finally dropped out of it so Stuart found someone else to play the show. When I talked to him last, he was working on something at Yale Rep and then he was diagnosed. He's one of far too many talented people I know who died far too young, and I still miss him and Clifford. And the survivors need to tell the tale.
Oy, the things an HBO series can dredge up!
-
DR elmore3003, that was beautiful. Thank you! :)

DR Edisaurus - I just love the idea of "placeholder goats"!!! It made me giggle... :)

I awoke this morning to a definite infection of some sort - sinus or oral abscess.
The right side of my face is so swollen that I was forced to call off work.
I have no pain of any kind, merely discomfort from having such a full face.
I phoned my dentist, and he will see me at 11:30 this morning to prescribe an antibiotic - even if it's an oral infection, he won't be able to do anything until an antibiotic has begun its work.
I had a little bit of swelling last evening, which I attributed to bad sinuses, and while watching the 2nd X-MEN movie, held an icepack over the uncomfortable area. When I went to bed, I took two Ibuprofen, and slept quite soundly until the alarm went off.
Then I saw/felt the swelling. . .
And that's my day so far.
DD Dixie Bell can't figure out the ice pack on my face. . .
-
Larry, thank you for the story. . . :'(
-
So sorry to hear this, DR td.
Hope it can all be sorted out quickly.
Your first sick day with Borders! :(
-
It closed yesterday but I saw Next to Normal on Saturday. It's a bit long but it's still very powerful and Alice Ripley and Brian D'Arcy James gave wonderful performances. Since it got mixed reviews, even though it extended for a week, there isn't much talk of a transfer to another space. Although singing that show for 8 performances a week would be quite the job, both emotionally and vocally.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And the guys from the boiler/oil company just showed up about 15 minutes ago. :-\ -But at least my down comforter was/is very toasty.

Toxin free vibes for DR ELMORE....and thanks for the lovely story.
Great pictures from DR DAKOTA CELT!
DR SINGDAW had never heard of Brandon DeWilde???? Well you must now watch ALL FALL DOWN and HUD!

What will this day be like, I wonder?
What will this morning be?

It's been very interesting hearing people's reactions to show over the past few weeks. I liked it (when I saw it with DR FJL), but thought some of the dramaturgy was confusing, especially in the closing moments. I did not get back to see it after it officially opened, but from what I understand they really did not change much more of the show after we had seen it. It seems that each person I talked to interpreted the ending in different ways. Was the son really a ghost throughout? Was the father crazy too? or was he just in a great denial? Or both?
However, everyone seemed to agree that Aaron Tveit's pecs and abs were well-served by the lighting. ;)
As for a possible transfer, let's just say that someone is still trying to make it happen. :-X

Thanks for the theatre report, DR Ben.
I thought I had read that Next to Normal would be recorded for posterity?

And the word of the day is: SOPOROSE!
Today, the word of this day should be SOPOKELLY, or SOPOJADE, or SOPOLIME, or SOPOVERT.
A SOPOROSE by any other name would smell as sweet, but I'm too tired to bother.

DR BrettySpaghetti - I've been to Logan, Utah! I had some surprisingly good and authentic Mexican food

DR elmore - Once again, I hope you have a good visit with your doctor today, and thanks for the trip down your memory lane.

Yes, Mr. Tveit's pecs and abs were quite the sight!
I hope it is recorded (Next to Normal).
Both my friend and I thought that the father was not "crazy" but just in deep denial about his son.
SPOILER IF YOU'RE AT ALL INTERESTED IN THIS SHOW
The "reconciliation" between the father and son made me cry.

I think of a warning more like, "Hey! He's got a knife!" or "Don't drink from her glass; she's got a cold!" ...
"Beware the Jabberwock" is one of my favorites.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
The first song that comes to mind, well, actually it's a mélodie, is Debussy's setting of the Verlaine poem, "Green", that is paired with "Spleen" as part of the Ariettes Oubliées. I remember having to learn that accompaniment for some grad school auditions - and I still have most of it "memorized" in my fingers. Fauré also set the same poem, but sets a totally different mood with his harmonies.
Another song from my Classical school days: Herbert Kingsley's "The Green Dog"
Otherwise...
"On Green Dolphin Street"
And cinematically speaking...
"Behind the Green Door"
:o 8) :o ::) :P :-X

*How are you eyes feeling? Sometimes an infection in your tear ducts can cause your face to swell.
My left eye is fine, my right eye is having difficulty focusing due to the swelling. . .
The odd thing, to me, is that I feel super-fine; it's odd to be off sick when feeling fit as a fiddle. ???

And now let's all sing the theme from THE ALAMO:

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNIFER!

Jose - I heard they did tweak NEXT TO NORMAL after opening, most importantly removing the much-talked-about (and disagreed-upon-on-chat-boards) Costco number by the end of the run. A very well-written number, i hope it remains as a bonus track on the eventual cast recording, but a number of people thought it caused harm dramaturgically in setting up (for some, the wrong way) the hell experienced by the character played by Alice Ripley.
-
And the word of the day is: SOPOROSE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: SLEEPY MAN
-
Hmm... I'm hearing lots of talking coming up from the basement, however, I'm not hearing any working. Yet. :-\
-
OH! That's right! There's a parade today! I guess I'm not heading over to the East Side today then.
-
Thanks, Fred. I'm just wondering if the cast recording will be a one or two disc set. There is certainly enough music in the show for a two-disc set - and if they include some of the material they cut from the show's previous incarnation, Feeling Electric, they could certainly fill up both discs.
-
There was no Costco number in the show on Saturday.

Fauré also set the same poem, but sets a totally different mood with his harmonies.
I love "Chevaux du bois" from Ariettes oubliees, which is not about green, but Giuseppe Verdi's name is Joe Green and I love nearly everything he wrote.
I'm back: good blood pressure, loss of 12 lbs, and I have a chest xray tmorrow at 12:30.
To continue the saga of David Morse, John Dossett, and Stuart White: Stuart was the original director of CRIMES OF THE HEART regionally and a lot of the play's success, I believe, is due to his input since I have yet to see another Beth Henley play as good. For the 30s revue, John Dossett sang beautifully Rodgers & Hart's "My Romance" from JUMBO, and David, who's a much better actor than singer, had "Brother, Can You spare A Dime," as I recall. I met Tom Jones' first wife Elinor through Stuart; he was directing a play she'd written with Jeanne Moreau in the title. Elinor was a major reason Tom and Harvey became interested in Colete, since it was her play about the author that got the ball rolling.
I last saw John, who's married to Michelle Pawk, at a preview of CABARET and I haven't seen David in probably 20 years since he and his wife live in LA.

Thanks for sharing those stories about John Dossett et al, DR Elmore. I loved John and David on the show (as well as several other featured players who really did wonderful jobs.)
The remaining five episodes which move us past the '1776' point of his story should be most entertaining. Looking forward to them all.

I'm seeing it two weeks from tomorrow (April 1).
I'm seeing A Catered Affair on April 2.
I'm seeing In the Heights on April 8.
I'm seeing South Pacific on April 15.
I need to get tickets for The Scottish Play, The Country Girl, Thurgood, Boeing-Boeing and Top Girls
In spite of the presence of Miss Laura Linney I have negative desire to see Les Liaisons Dangereuses. I LOATHED it when I first saw it and I would need to be tied to my chair with Clockwork Orange type eye devices attached to make me sit through it again.
I don't have any strong urge to see the new Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I would love to see Miss Cook at the Carlye but that is just out of my budget.
-
As a huge fan of John and Abigail Adams, I'm sorry we don't have HBO. I thought of adding it to our cable service, but decided to wait for the DVD - hope it's available soon after the series ends! I'm very pleased to hear the positive reactions from people whose opinions I respect.
Several years ago at my library's annual staff day there was an audiobook program at which I was one of the door prize winners. We were each given a Recorded Books catalog and told we could order anything we wanted. I chose the CD version of David McCullough's John Adams, the book on which the HBO series is based. Mr. McCullough is someone I'd like to have over for dinner.

DR MissKaren - Happy Thesis Day! ;D

DR elmore - You need to hang around midtown more often! The number of times over the past couple of months I ran into David Morse as he was coming out of the Booth... Well, it was a number of times. -"Yep, he's tall." ;) And I still manage to catch a glimpse of John Dossett's amazing blue eyes every once awhile during my perambulations. I still have fond memories of his Fredrik in the Kennedy Center's A Little Night Music.

Well, it was a number of times. -"Yep, he's tall." ;) And I still manage to catch a glimpse of John Dossett's amazing blue eyes every once awhile during my perambulations. I still have fond memories of his Fredrik in the Kennedy Center's A Little Night Music.
DR Jose, after working in midtown for the first 18 years of my NYC life, I don't miss it at all! I hadn't realized David was in THE SEAFARER. He was so wonderful in THE TRADING POST at WPA. Boy, does he look like George Washington!

HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY
GREEN FOR DANGER
Though I've never seen it, I enjoy the music to GREENWILLOW.
I must disagree with my friend Elmore. I was bored and disappointed by the JOHN ADAMS mini on HBO. A lot of good actors and interesting history, but the whole thing is rather portentously, lethargically told.
I put it down to a bad script and poor direction. It's like every word that's uttered is "we are saying weighty, important things." They're playing it like history; rather than like people. Every scene with Giametti and Linney is done in claustrophic two-shots and everything that is said is so ponderous and measured and serious. Though, yes, Abigail was a significant part of John's life, it feels like just because they have Laura Linney that have to give her character absolutely equal time scene for scene with Giamatti and some of those scenes and moments just aren't worth it, then you see her not only giving her wise advice and influence to John Adams, but George Washington as well. We're getting historical figures, not living, breathing people. I felt I got to know all these characters better in 1776, and they were alive and more multi-faceted and interesting than they are here. It would probably be a more fulfilling exercise to read the book; but I'll probably tune in next week to see if gets better. And where was Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, The Boston Tea Party? We might have seen some of histroy being played out instead of talked about, seen people doing things instead of saying things like, "I must do..."...if they'd picked up pace and cut some of Abigail Adams looking wise and solemn at her husband.
I can recommend THE SEAFARER, however.

I called out sick today. When I woke up this morning, the idea of having to go to work made me feel sick, and so I called out. It's actually more of a mental health day- I've made a promise to myself that I will take one of those every month.

Prior to yesterday's postings, I had never heard of Brandon de Wilde -
I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked! Had you never seen "Shane"? Or "Member of the Wedding"? Did you ever see "Those Calloways"?
The latter is a movie he made for Disney in the early 1960s with Brian Keith playing his dad. It was a good film with gorgeous photography.
And, de Wilde even did a Disney TV mini-series called "Tenderfoot", from whence came this still:

Shocked. Yes.

(It's Not that Easy) Bein' Green (Joe Raposo)
It's not that easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that
It's not easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky
But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be

Question for the all of you:
You've perhaps seen this in a popular book or movie:
Based on highly compelling evidence, Person (A) believes that Person
(B) has killed (A)'s true love, Person (C). So (A) plots revenge
against and ultimately dispatches (B), not realizing what we, the
reader/viewer have known all along: that (B) is innocent of the
original death. Indeed, it may even have been an accident, but more
likely the work of Person (D).
What are the most popular classical and modern examples of this theme?

TOD - Somewhere That's Green
My time on the Island is over, and I can say that ONCE I did this show I fell in love with it and was very sad to see the run end. Those of us that do this for a living know that you don't say that very often. Now it's off to Skid Row and the tales of Audrey and Seymour, which is shaping up to be really good, just not as fun and exciting as Once On This Island. When Little Shop ends in April, I can't believe this, but I am show-less until I start the summer program I'm working on in June. I'll be MDing Mulan Jr. and Damn Yankees which will be fun with kids. And then.... then... I can't WAIT for this one... I begin rehearsing Into The Woods on August 3 or 5 or something like that.

I like reading the live discussion feeds so i can catch up on what is happening. Interesting that James made a deal with natalie on last night's show not to put up her or matt. Yet james won veto. Took sheila off the block and put up matt. I'm not sure if he was planning it all along. I think he was thinking about different backdoor ideas the whole time.
The thing that gets me is that these people don't even understand what backdooring means. James went on and on about how he was backdoored.
To me backdooring is when you nominate two people with the intent of taking one off with the veto to then get out your real target.
James was not backdoored. his freakin partner chelsia won veto and took herself off the block. So ryan HAD TO NOMINATE SOMEONE ELSE. It was not ryan's plan to get james out of the house originally!
-
I love "Chevaux du bois" from Ariettes oubliees, which is not about green, but Giuseppe Verdi's name is Joe Green and I love nearly everything he wrote.
David Morse is, without a doubt, one of the most under-rated actors in show buisness. I have never seen him give anything less than a total perfromance. I have loved his work since ST. ELSEWHERE.

As the token Utahn on HHW, may I say I spent many an idyllic summer in and around Logan (especially Bear Lake) as a child.
While lugging my tribe (wife, three kids, 1 cat 5 kittens packed into an Opel station wagon) cross country from San Diego to the East Cost I decided to visit the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We left SLC at dusk on less than a quarter tank, thinking it would be easy to find gas en route. WRONG! Idaho closes down at dusk. And when it gets dark in Utah/Idaho - it really gets dark! When it became clear that we would run out of gas before long, I decided we should try to find a place to spend the night - of course now the fog set in! I could barely see the road in front, let alone cruise for accommodations. In desperation, I parked by the side of the road and hiked a bit. I came across some place that said "Cabins" and walked up the path the main house and described my dilemma. (Now, I might point out, that this was in the winter). The nice women that answered the door assured me that although they were closed for the season, she could work something out. "Something" was an unheated wooden cabin seemingly in the woods. With lots of covers and the kids in sleeping bags we settled down. (The "facilities" were only a few dozen or so yards away).
Come the morning, I walked out of the cabin to find the sun just rising over crystal clear Bear Lake, a short stone's throw away. What a gorgeous view! Soon Ma Kettle arrived said if we'd like some breakfast to come up to the main house in fifteen minutes. We were ushered into a large dining room and watched while three women busied about the kitchen. Fresh baked biscuits, farm-fresh eggs, country sausage, pan cakes, home made preserves, local wild honey- a farm feast fit for a king. While we were stuffing our faces, the teenager of the house went to the closest gas station and returned with 10 gallons of gas for the car. When it was time to go, I asked for my bill - overnight accommodations plus breakfast for 5 - $20.00.
I'd go back there for a vacation anytime.

I was planning on watching LITTLE NELLIE KELLY in laserdisc in honor of St. Patrick's Day, but when I was flipped through the cable guide, I noticed CALL ME MADAM had just started on the Fox Movie Channel. So, I watched that this afternoon.
I know they interpolated "The International Rag" into the score of the film (in place of the "Washington Square Dance"), but did Irving Berlin write that song "What Chance Have I With Love?" for Donald O'Connor for the film or was it also from something he had written earlier and just put into the movie version?

Thanks to everyone who offered vibes for my work colleague. She is scheduled to have two MRIs on Wednesday.

Her doctor is at Yale New Haven, so I'm sure they're cutting edge.
-
Thanks again to everyone! :)

Mr. Rothman has a habit of arriving for our three-thirty meet time at least forty-five minutes early, which does put a crimp in my trying to do what I need to do before leaving.
Tell Mr. Rothman to get an Internet Thing-A-Majig. He can sit around posting at HHW and making himself useful!

I went to the local supermarket today during my lunch break to pick up treats for the afternoon staff meeting. This was before the power went out in the building.
Can you believe it? In this HUGE super supermarket, on St. Patrick's Day, the bakery did not have ONE green thing for sale. Not one.
-
I loved her as Megara in Hercules! "I Won't Say I'm in Love" is one of my favorite all-time songs.
I found this Disney video, it doesn’t say who is singing-Susan? (http://apps.facebook.com/ilike/artist/Hercules/track/I+Won't+Say+I'm+In+Love)

Her doctor is at Yale New Haven, so I'm sure they're cutting edge.
I went there for tests the year we lived in Woodbridge. All was well.
-
Did anyone eat a green bagel today?
Or is that a trend whose time has passed?
-

Yep, that's Susan! :D

That was a short nap, DR td! Your cheeks couldn't take the heat? ;)

I haven't been out today so I can't say if there were green bagels. I'm sure there were green shamrock cookies. I have some green foil wrapped See's chocolates.

Blecchh! I would rather not see anything than see lip-synching. Am I alone here?

That was a short nap, DR td! Your cheeks couldn't take the heat? ;)
45 minutes is a short nap; an hour is a long nap.
I tried to do some reading whilst on the bed, but, book-marking and water-bottle holding don't easily go hand in hand. . . :-[
-
You done said a mouthful!
And now, to nap with my wonderful hot water bottle tucked safely against my cheeks.
Just be careful not to tuck it between your cheeks.

People here really do love to send out "positive vibes." Good thing they're free!
They are only free, because you get so much back in return.

Has anyone seen THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwUDm9s58MY) video?? It's the song "I Won't Say (I'm In Love)" from "Hercules" but someone took video clips of Legally Blonde to make a music video of the song. It's pretty cute. :)
-
I am so glad that I stayed home today. My roommate just came home and told me about a particularly idiotic and insulting discussion our boss had during clinical meeting this morning. Had I been there, I may not have been able to help myself from leaping up out of my seat and choking or otherwise harming him. So while it may not have been my health that was improved by staying home today, his was greatly benefited.

So far so good. I haven't had a lot to eat today and I walked 30 minutes while watching the 6:00 PM news. My first goal is 30 minutes walking on the treadmill every night while I watch TV and cutting out things like my afternoon candy bar...

An hour with no posts!!!

I need to go to the store and stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables. I think I'll do it tomorrow

Feeling better Cillaliz?

Thanks TD. Yes, my ears still hurt a little, but I think it was from chewing too much gum and from the airplane and not an infection of some sort. They REALLY started hurting on the last flight yesterday. I cleaned them with peroxide and took and Aleve last night and slept just fine. I'll probably do the same thing tonight.

Well, I'm off to my sister's for some St. Patrick's Day Dessert! I don't know what it'll be (and it might not even be green ;)), but it should be good. Until later!

TOD:
Doctor Who: The Green Death, (http://www.drwhoguide.com/who_3t.htm) starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and a whole lot of giant green maggots!
(You guys knew I'd come up with this, right?)

Has anyone mentioned The Green Hornet?
-
For Good Eats fans:
Nice episode on roast crown of lamb. Nice title for the episode: The Alton Crown Affair.
Something many people wouldn't have noticed: on the blackboard front of Alton's refrigerator, the episode's title was written in imitation of the posters for the original Thomas Crown Affair. I got it, if der B didn't.
-
Back from lunch with my good friend Becky. We both had one of the specials - Frontina panini & tomato bisque - sort of Italian grilled cheese & tomato soup. We each added a small chopped salad and we shared an order of mocha crunch gelato. I brought home a Bravo Insalata de la Casa (yum, one of my favorites) to serve to Richard tonight, along with spaghetti leftover from the other night.
Oh, that's real Irish. ::)

One can never have enough nuts.
You've never met my customers. Obviously.

Good for you Cilla!

NetFlix says there is a very long wait for STARGATE: THE ARK OF TRUTH We are very disappointed :(
-
Our copy of Stargate TAOT is sitting right here, in front of me.
It's the sort of thing we collect. Lately, I've started watching the series in order. (I don't know what I'm going to do when we get to season ten, which we don't have yet for some reason.) It's interesting, and fun, watching how the entire mess started.
-
I've got our Irish/New England boiled dinner cooking, as I type.
Rather, I'm cooking the veg. I braised the actual corned beef brisket last night. I figured that it would be easier to slice thinly this way, after it had appropriately cooled, and all I'll have to do is re-heat the slices.
Should be nicely yummers.
-
I wore my silly, super-tall St. Patrick's Day hat at work today, the same one der B posted pics of last year.
A lot of people liked it.
I now have hat hair.

We don't collect movies so I guess we will have to be patient. If we didn't speed through commercials we might have put this on our queue sooner.;D

My thoughts on the dancers on tonight's DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Spoiler space in case
*
*
*
I find that i have my favorite professional dancers and that often impacts who i root for.
There are a few dancers who i feel have zero chance to win. One is penn (i love kym his partner). And he could last long because of his attitude and popularity. But you can usually tell from the first show who has true potential.
I feel bad for julianne. I mean yeah she did get two amazing dancers to work with the past seasons. But i really don't think adam corolla (sp?) has a chance either. Although i think she will work him hard and they will do as much as he is capable of. But i don't think he could ever improve enough to win.
Same with steve guttenberg. I am not really a fan of his pro (anna). He came across as charming. ANd i hope he does well. But i don't think he will be able to improve enough to be a finalist.
Two who i think could go far are cristian (paired with cheryl) and the football player (i'm drawing a blank on his name, paired with edyta). I like edyta more than cherly. But i think both these men have huge potential.
But the clear best is mario (the r&b star). He is so far superior to the others it's not even funny. I love karina. And i think they should be F3.
I voted for adam and julianne (i love her) and i thought he did the best he could possibly do. And mario (karina). Since i thought he was by far the best.
I'm looking forward to seeing the women tomorrow.

I have never heard of a green bagel (and bagels are pretty common here).
-
Don't know about everywhere else, but I just saw an ad here that HBO is free on Mar 20-23 and you can see the first 3 episodes of John Adams.
-
I have never heard of a green bagel (and bagels are pretty common here).
I think it was probably food coloring for St. Patrick's Day. Don't know if you celebrate that as much as we do here in the States
-
Thanks for the tip Cilla. I'll have to see what else is on those days.
-
Jennifer, through the Humane Society of the United States of America I just sent an email to your Minister of International Trade requesting an end to the Canadian seal hunt.
Are you familiar with Canadian protests against the clubbing of seals?

'night

Oh, that's real Irish. ::)
Well, if we hadn't eaten the leftover spaghetti tonight, it would have turned green by the time Richard and I will be home again for dinner together. We figured between my working tomorrow evening and his Holy Week church commitments, the next time we'll dine together will be Saturday :-\

Welcome back from vacation, DR Cillaliz. Did your luggage keep up with you this time?

Welcome back from vacation, DR Cillaliz. Did your luggage keep up with you this time?
Yes it did. I was very glad it did

Even though I don't have to be at work until noon tomorrow, I still have to get up pretty early in the morning to run errands and such.
'night!

n spite of the presence of Miss Laura Linney I have negative desire to see Les Liaisons Dangereuses. I LOATHED it when I first saw it and I would need to be tied to my chair with Clockwork Orange type eye devices attached to make me sit through it again.
I saw it in the late 80's---it starred Alan Rickman---I became an instant fan.
-
Vibes to td! I hope you're feeling better already! (I'm catching up with the rest of the day.)

Der Brucer figured out the Medium case tonight.
He's so proud of himself!

Good Evening!
I'm back from a sort of impromptu trip to Queens/Astoria. My friend, Michael, is thinking of moving out there and wanted to walked around to get a feel for some of the neighborhoods. So, after exchanging some texts, I met him down at 72nd Street, and then it was on the 1 to Times Square and then the N to Broadway (in Astoria).
We basically just walked a loop from 31st over to Steinway down to 39th and back up to 31st. Then we walked up to Ditmars, etc., etc. Quite a lot of walking, but there was lots to see and a lot of places to check out: an Italian bakery, a Balkan bakery, a Salvadoran panaderia (bakery), a Lebanese bakery, a Arab bakery, etc., etc., etc. ;)
We eventually met up with some other friends and had dinner at Locale (http://www.localeastoria.com/). It was good food, although, we all thought our dishes could have used a bit more "flavor" and seasoning. -Maybe just another sprinkle of salt in the kitchen? However, the bartender was adorable! :D
-
BrettyS, GROOVY DAY is now my favorite song! Who is the gal singing with you??
That's the adorable Joan Manners! Former Dr. Demento guest star and former girlfriend of Weird Al, and one of the sweetest people on earth!
Thanks for mentioning that, MBarnum! I enjoyed that very much, Bretty!
-
I was able to watched LITTLE NELLIE KELLY, my annual Irish treat to myself, and enjoyed it very much. Even makes me cry a little bit every time I see it.
-
I watched CANTERBURY'S LAW. The case was fine, but all the angst over her kidnapped little boy turns this into a completely different show. The scenes with Aidan Quinn are very painful and unpleasant. I don't think the two types of dramas pair very well at all.
-
NEW AMSTERDAM made me angry again. Foir the second time in four episodes, his pursuit of this married woman (who's having problems in her marriage) prevented him from adequately guarding a woman in real peril.
I'd love it if the payoff for all this romantic pursuit was that she ended up NOT being "the one" he's searching for. I just find all these dates intrusive into the case he's trying to solve and the backstory that's helping him solve it. Juggling too many stories for the audience is one way to lose the audience.
-
Yep, I figured out the solution to MEDIUM before the revelation as well. I don't often have that happen with this show, but tonight, I did.
-
The highlight of the impromptu bakery tour of Astoria was ARTOPOLIS (http://www.artopolis.net/). It has to be one of the most beautiful bakeries I've ever been in - marble floors, columns, beautiful display cases, etc. The baked goods all looked wonderful and were attractively displayed. The "open" cookie displays were protected by a sort of white gauze/crinoline fabric - quite a nice way to keep them covered up. -And the one we tasted were all quite good.
Next door to Artopolis was a Greek butcher which had some great prices on all their offerings - pre-skewered kabobs of pork and beef were only $1.25 a piece! Next to the butcher was a Greek supermarket. And all of these were tucked into the ground floor of an industrial/medical building right near the subway. Who knew?!?!? ;)
-
I performed the completely strange play The Falling Sickness there when I was in high school, to an audience of slack-jawed yokels who didn't quite get the part where all three characters attacked each other with bowling pins. ;D
If that's not an Edward Gorey play, it should be!
-
Tomorrow I'll watch OLD CHRISTINE which I recorded tonight.
I also got a review disc in the mail that I've been expecting for days - MANDA BALA, a documentary. The film is only 85 minutes long, but there are a bunch of bonus features on the disc including a commentary, so it looks like most of the day tomorrow will be given over to this film.
-
DR MBarnum - During my walk today, each time we walked by the various Indian, Arab and Lebanese places, I thought of you. ;)
-
Here is a link to a Daily News article quoting Miss Haworth
Jill Haworth (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/03/17/2008-03-17_hundreds_remain_homeless_as_officials_de.html)
I hope she is able to be reunited with her kitties!
-
DR Ron, I hope your sinuses decide to behave themselves!
-
I know they interpolated "The International Rag" into the score of the film
Hmmmm...I've never heard The Internationale done as a rag. That would be quite something! :)
-
Had a few telephonic conversations, listening to Harry Nilsson's Aerial Ballet (a GREAT CD), and shall now shave and then shower.
I love it, and all of his other albums. He is my all-time #1 favorite singer, and I have all of his albums, many times over.
The new documentary about him was hard for me to watch---you see him basically self-destruct.
-
I love cats' mad phases. Growing up, my cat Grouchy used to have a brief period immediate relief, then she would remember that she was mad at me and would sulk.
My cats never seem to have those mad phases. Well, 3 of them don't, anyway. The other is just a bitchy diva.
-
Our kitten guests have given up trying to get my cheese and crackers and are now grooming each other on the cat condo.
I thought this was hte day they were supposed to go home.
How big is the cat condo, TPunk?
-
DR Sing, do you know what kind of cancer it is? (Of course, they all suck but some are easier to deal with than others...)
Vibes to your co-worker!!!

This coming from DR Jose, so it MUST be beautiful!
-
No writing to do tonight, so I'm heading downstairs to bed now.
Good night!
-
I love Jose's blog so much...
-
I have a double session tomorrow (the night one to fix the TLC tape I made that another editor was called it to revise and ended up butchering it. I was horrified by what I saw when it was posted for viewing, and am glad they asked me to come in to "polish" it and fix the music edits. I hope I can make it better, but it's not cut to the music anymore so I don't know how much leeway I will have to be able to change anything.
Oh well...it will be a challenge, but I sense a night of cringing, so I'd beter get to bed!
-
But before I go---
DR Dakota, I LOVE the pictures you posted!!
-
And Bretty, I also think the new avatar is the best yet.
-
DR edisaurus - Aw, shucks. Thank you!
*And since I'll be working down in Chelsea tomorrow, I'll be sure to check out the status of Madeleine Patisserie and their scrumptious macarons.
-
Well, nine hours from now I'll be playing excerpts from the "Ascot Gavotte" and "The Embassy Waltz" over and over again, so...
Goodnight.
-
Yes, Jose's blog is full of tasty goodness!
-
I speaking of tasty goodness, I had lunch with Mustafa today. He has been sort of down lately...I think homesickness has set in...and a little depression and guilt about leaving family behind in Iraq... so I called and told him I was going to take him for a hamburger at ROCK N' ROGERS (best burgers in Salem!).
Mustafa had the mushroom burger and I had the avocado burger.

And Bretty, I also think the new avatar is the best yet.
You're embarrassing me again. And I thank you for that!

I just watched tonight's "Medium." I didn't (and don't ususally) try to figure out what was going on before it was obvious.
-
I just watched "Medium" from four weeks ago (Allison suffers paranormal sympathetic deafness).
-
That was a good one, too.
-
Well, I hate to do this, but I must do the Wussburger thing. I'm ushering at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts tomorrow morning for a children's program and I have to be there at 9:15 a.m.! That's early for me. ;)
-
Good night, Bretty and Laura!
-
Back from a later than normal rehearsal, but a fun one, and now I must write the notes. And I'll just say that another hurdle has been jumped for the good news and I'm going to try and see if I can get a go ahead to announce by Friday - it may not be able to happen that fast, but it does look like everything is potentially a go.
