Questions for BK...How long have you actually been working on getting the rights to the new Kritzerland release?  What did it really involve (other than the remastering of the recording itself and fixing the dropped words)?

I don't want to talk about it too much at this point, but I will just say there was a lot of serendipity at play, and I'll go into detail when the official announcement is made.

Here is what I would ask BK. I apologize in advance for the length.

After searching the archives, I see that DR JMK asked you back in January of 2005 what you thought of our shared musical idol Todd Rundgren. Your response: "I'm sure I also like Todd Rundgren but I don't have any CDs and hence cannot remember what songs he's done."

FYI, he is the genius behind "Hello It's Me," "I Saw the Light," "Can We Still Be Friends," "Bang the Drum All Day," etc. As many here have pointed out over the passage of time, he also has a keen musical-theater influence, having covered "Lord Chancellor's Nightmare Song" and "Something's Coming" (from WSS) on his LPs.

You are so very knowledgeable about musical theater, sir, that I wondered if knew anything about Joseph Papp's off-Broadway mounting of "Up Against It," the abortive screenplay Joe Orton wrote for the Beatles back in the 1960s. Papp conscripted Rundgren to write an all-new score (music and lyrics, natch) for Orton's script, which was re-tailored for the stage. I was lucky enough to see the production three or four times, once while sitting two seats away from Mr. Rundgren. His score draws from influences ranging from Sondheim and Weill to Gilbert and Sullivan, and it's rather excellent, I think. So...were you aware of the musical, does it pique your interest in any way, and now that I've named a few Rundgren hits, do any of the titles ring a bell?

[blatant self-promotion]

And incidentally (clearing throat), I wrote the liner notes for the recent "Best of" Rundgren anthology for Rhino Records -- my third such project for the label.

[/blatant self-promotion]

Thank you.

Your pal,
Brett

Wednesday morning greetings!

Off to do some errands in the rain....and yes DR GINNY...I agree...at least it isn't SNOW!!

But the weather did impact my commute this morning.  I take the "scenic route," along the Great Miami River.  The stretch of road between Miamisburg and West Carrollton was closed due to high water, with NO advance warning.  I ended up taking a detour through subdivisions that made me feel like a rat in a maze.  Glad I'd left home a few minutes early!

Good morning, all! I went to the Kritzerland site to order the forthcoming CD, but I can find no means of doing so. What the hell?

Thank you all for the financial vibes. My wire payment arrived today, but the Cassidy check, which would cover my payments to my accountant for my IRS return and my lawyer for the new will, would be very helpful at the moment.

Today, the eyeglasses place, kinko's, and the NYPL Music Collection. The neighbor above me, who bears an uncanny ability to come stomping into his apartment and drag heavy objects across the floor as his dog scampers around  just after I've turned off the tv and the lights, did his usual last night, and I could not get to sleep.  Thank God his noisy girlfriend was absent last night or there would have been to much laughing and their noisy sex to endure as well.

And on that, I have other fish to fry.

Lar, Bruce hasn't put the CD information up at Kritzerland yet. He announced it to us and then took the post down. He will put the ordering information up at Kritzerland when he makes a formal announcement. You can order it through Paypal (I don't remember his e-mail address). HALLELUJAH BABY and DROOD were not financial successes during their runs (BABY only ran half a season; that year, none of the Best Musical nominees was a financial hit). I'm sure that was one consideration about ever mounting a Broadway revival.

Yes, I know several Sondheim musicals weren't hits either and have been revived, but he's the exception to the rule.

I think most people regard REDHEAD as a star vehicle for Gwen Verdon and without her, no show. (It's among the weakest Best Musical winners ever, at least based on the cast recording.) Most people also regard APPLAUSE as having rather weak material for a revival. Perhaps if a BIG STAR wanted to do it, they could mount a revival around the star, but it would take a big star.

A revised Hallelujah, Baby! was done in DC a few years ago with the idea of possibly bringing it back to Broadway but it was not received well and died a-borning.

I do think there are some wonderful songs in the score. I've never seen a production. I know the plot from reading about the show.

Leslie Uggams won a Tony that year for Hallelujah, Baby! It was one of the years with a tie for Best Actress in a Musical. She shared the Tony with Patricia Routledge who won for Darling of the Day

Bretty--I didn't realize you had written those. I haven't bought that collection because I already have a lot of those on CD's. Todd Rudgren is one of my favorites. (He's coming to Atlanta next month---yay!)

I've mentioned this on HHW before, but not to you. My best friend and I love Todd's "Lord Chancellor's Nightmare" and memorized the lyrics. We used it as our sobriety test in college. We would alternate singing verses, and the person who slipped up would not be allowed to drive. (Well, we're talking 2-3 drinks max...that's all we could afford!)

I didn't know about his love of musicals (I haven't heard "Something's Coming", but I do like his "Never Never Land" from PETER PAN.) Now it all makes sense.

Gee, if only I had a copy of those liner notes, I would know all this!

I scored REDHEAD for Goodspeed in 1998; it's a terrible show that must have originally been such a stunning showcase for Bob Fosse that no one saw its drawbacks because of the staging, the star, and the designs. Albert Hague liked my work and he was a lovely man, but I don't think he's one of my favorite composers. The production, by Chris Ashley, should have looked at earlier drafts of the show because even Gwen Verdon couldn't sustain the role and started cutting songs because of fatigue: she never leaves the stage in Fosse's shrill and continuous attempt to make her the center of everything. Goodspeed's leading lady was charming but not served well by director or choreographer. Perhaps examining  one of the earlier drafts for Bea Lille or Mary Martin might have made the book play better.

TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA played several years ago in Central Park with Rosario Dawson, and it was as delightful as it was in 1971. However not enough buzz to move the show elsewhere.

Encores! just did APPLAUSE with Christine Ebersole and it got so-so reviews. I don't believe Ebersole was a good choice for the role since everything had to be esentially rescored to move the songs to her range and I don't think its book's as good as ALL ABOUT EVE or its score as good as BYE BYE BIRDIE.

Roundabout will supposedly prevent BYE BYE BIRDIE as one of its upcoming revisals. Pity.

Hotel to offer sex toy minibar

A NEW boutique hotel at a seaside resort in northwest England will offer guests a sex toy minibar when it opens later this year, its owner said.

The Vincent Hotel, in Southport, near Liverpool, will have "intimate seduction kits" in each of its 60 rooms from May, containing lubricating gel, massage oil, a vibrating ring and two condoms.

The kit will be in a sealed box alongside more traditional minibar items like nuts, chocolate and alcohol.

Guests can request an extra special kit containing a whip, mask and bondage tape.

"As well as giving guests a design conscious venue to stay, we wanted to give them a decadent, inspiring and seductive environment to enjoy," hotel owner Paul Adams said today.

As for Applause coming back... It really would require a true Star to carry that show if it were to come back.  Alas, any of today's "Stars" would be too young for the role.  And, yes, the book is middling, and the score has it's share of padding too, imho.

Why do you think there has never been a Broadway revival of A Little Night Music and if there was one who would you like to see in it?

They have spoken about a Night Music revival for years - but I think they know it's a soft show and these days producers of revivals don't seem to be looking for soft shows - they want big, loud shows, or new concept shows.  I suppose if one had an all-star cast it might do okay, but I think that's the best it would do.  If John Doyle were the director, I would stay far away.

And I'll just say, I've been bored of these endless revivals for twenty years, no matter how good they are.

This list is much more interesting, of course, or certain titles are, because some of them are quite long in the tooth now and would be interesting to see again.

Bye Bye Birdie would have liked to come in during the Tommy Tune tour, but it really wasn't good enough and Tune and Reinking didn't exactly light up the stage with chemistry or star power.

Redhead - don't know it well enough, but I think it was pretty much a vehicle for its star and choreographer and it's probably not that good.

Fiorello - done by Encores (their first season, I think) and although people seemed to enjoy it, it's probably not that interesting for producers, given its time period, and I've never seen it so I don't know how good the book is.

Hallelujah, Baby - it wasn't a hit, therefore I don't think any producer would care about reviving it, as nice as some of the score is.

Applause - talked about for years, but you'd need a mega-watt star (and I don't mean Miss Ebersole, who I like very much, but you need someone who's in the class of Bacall, and who that would be I have no idea).

Two Gentlemen of Verona - sorry, I don't like this musical at all, although the original production was fun to watch.  I think it would open and close very quickly were it to be revived.

Raisin - No one cares.

Evita - talked about for years.

Drood - I just don't think anyone cares, really.

Another possible revival

Promises Promises (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/116038.html)

though I don't think Sean Hayes is remotely right for the role. I'm not dissing his talent, I'm just saying I don't see him as Chuck Baxter

I saw that, too and thought "huh"?

At the time Nell Carter passed away, she was set to star in a production of the musical RAISIN, and there was much talk then that the production would have a future if it were successful - but of course, it was contingent on her name being attached as star.

We've always thought
Knowledge is naught,
We should be taught to dance,
Right here at Tate
we're up to date,
We teach a great new dance,
don't think that I brag,
I speak of the drag.
Why should a sheikh
learn how to speak
Latin and Greek badly?
Give him a neat
Motto complete
Say it with feet gladly!
First lesson right now,
You'll love it and how you'll love it:
Here is the drag, see how it goes,
Down on the heels, up on the toes,
That's the way to do the Varsity Drag,
Do-dee-odle-oh-do!
Hotter than hot, newer than new,
Meaner than mean, bluer than blue,
Gets as much applause as waving the flag!
You can pass many a class,
Whether you're dumb or wise,
If you'll all answer the call
when your professor cries:
"Everybody down on the heels, up on the toes,
Stay after school and learn how it goes,
Everybody do the varsity drag!"

Pass That Peace Pipe

A Medicine Man I Met
Said Don't Get Yourself In A Sweat.
When Things Look Gray,
Just Shrug And Say:
"It Musta Been Somethin' I Et!"
"So Don't Get Yourself In A Snit, " he said,
"Tuck Your Tantrums Into Your Kit Instead.
"It's Disarming To Be Charming,"
Quoth The Medicine Man,
Whom All Agree It's Plain To See
Nobody Could Be Wiser Than.

So If Your Temper's Getting A Top Hand,
All You Have To Do Is Just Stop And
Pass That Peace Pipe And Bury That Hatchet
Like The Choctaws, Chickasaws,
Chattahoochees, Chippewas Do.

If You're Feeling Mad As A Wet Hen,
Mad As You Can Possibly Get, Then
Pass That Peace Pipe, Bury That Tomahawk
Like Those Chichamecks, Cherokees,
Chapultepecs Do.

That Cold Shoulder Never Solved A Single Complaint.
When You're Older, You'll Wipe Off All Of That War
Paint.

If You Find Yourself In A Fury,
Be Your Own Judge And Your Own Jury.
Pass That Peace Pipe And Bury That Hatchet
Like The Choctaws, Chickasaws,
Chattahoochees, Chippewas Do.

If You Want To Hover Out West, Too,
You Will Soon Discover It's Best To
Pass That Peace Pipe And Bury That Hatchet
Like The Choktohs, Changos,
Chattanoogas, Cheekarohs Do.

Even In Colonial Days, You
Know The Ceremonial Ways To
Pass That Peace Pipe And Bury That Tomahawk
Like Those Chakootamees, Chepacheps
'N' Chicopees, Too.

Pull Your Ears In, Try To Use A Little Control.
When "All Clear"'s In, You'll Be Top Man On The Totem
Pole.

So, If You Wanna Be An All-Right Guy --
Not A Long Face,  Blues-In-The-Night Guy --
Write That Apology And Dispatch It!
When You Quarrel,  It's Grand To Patch It!
Pass That Peace Pipe And Bury That Hatchet
Like Those Choctaws, Chickasaws,
Chattahoochees, Chippewas
And Those Chichamecks, Cherokees,
Chapultepecs
And Those Chakootamees, Chepacheps
'N' Chicopees, Choktohs, Changos,
Chattanoogas, Cheekarohs Do-O-O-O

Written by Roger Edens, Hugh Martin & Ralph Blane
- As a duet for  Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire in the MGM film
“Ziegfeld Follies”,  but it never made it into the picture.
It resurfaced a few years later in 1947 in the movie "Good News"

I believe the time difference is due to the change in the start of Daylight Savings Time.  Some computers and computer servers have been updated, and other haven't.  The same goes for VCRs, DVD players, etc., that have DST pre-programmed in.  -Which is also why the day's notes and posts will sometimes appear to repeat a day lately.

Back from a midday brownbag lunch meeting.  I didn't have anything to take for lunch today, didn't really pass any drive-throughs that appealed to me, and was just going to make do with the coffee and muffins that the venue provided.  One of the other board members had gone to a Burger King drive-through and discovered that she'd been given the wrong order.  She had a full-size Whopper, chicken nuggets, fries, and a large soft drink.  She shared her lunch with me and we could have fed a third person.

The person who ordered all that must have been really disappointed to get Marty's order - a Whopper Junior (with no mayo) and a small diet Coke.

Btw, speaking of recipes, has anyone ever tried the KFC imitation recipe for cole slaw or potato salad? (they are free at toprecipes.com). Very good.

I made the potato salad one for tonight. But when i told my niece on the phone she proclaimed, "i don't like that" (although she doesn't even know what it is).

But i made her the cole slaw last week. And my sis says she has been asking her for it everyday! So i made her another batch (doesn't take too long).

Last night on the phone she said i was bringing her "cole sa-law" (how she pronounces it).

The recipe site is actually topsecretrecipes.com

While researching the Long Beach local school district's potentially damaging decisions, our team uncoverd a fully equipped auto mechanic's lab (lifts, bays, hoists, tools, machine tools, etc) whose doors have never been opened. Back from a good work session, but a strange e-mail, which now may throw a monkey wrench into the news.  I cannot believe it, but I'm not going to panic until I actually have a conversation.  Based on that conversation, I'll either send everyone their money back immediately or we'll be able to move forward.  The monkey wrench is so weird and off-putting that I'm agog, simply agog, and I wonder if it's because some peckerwood read the posts yesterday and called someone.  In a nutshell, it seems that the four songs might be included in a box set sometime in the distant future, from another label - the soundtrack of the songs.  What I find odd is that no one has mentioned this to me until today, long after I was told everything was fine.  They're not saying no to me, but it now could get so muddy that it will be impossible, especially if I have to go deal with the people who are supposedly doing the box.   Obviously, when I began pursuing this, no one acted as if another company had any interest whatsovever - it was just happiness at the thought that this might finally be released.  And now, suddenly, there's this Sword of Damacles and I'm just really annoyed about it.  And I just hope it wasn't because of yesterday's little pre-announcement.  I've told them it's a whole different thing - we'd be putting out the entire soundtrack, not just the songs, and it's a limited edition so it's not really going to hurt any box set.

I have to say, that if this falls apart I may just take it as a sign to close down Kritzerland - because I'm so weary of having to live from hand to mouth with the company never having any money.  This project was exactly what we needed to get a quick infusion of cash.  I've got two upcoming projects that I'll probably cancel at the end of the week, should this all fall apart.

DR Jennifer - Get the an ice cream scoop/disher!  They make portioning out batters for cupcakes, pancakes and waffles a much more easier and faster and consistent job.  I also use them for portioning out cookie dough for drop cookies.

As for those "imitation recipes" - Just a word of warning (from the son of a Registered Dietitian) - In general, what makes a lot of fast food taste so good is the amount of sodium and fat they load into their recipes.  Many of the "imitation" recipes actually have more sodium and fat than the original restaurant versions.  And since you're making a whole batch and not just getting a single serving container, you may be be bound to eat more than "normal".  I also think you should also just search out some traditional homespun recipes since most of the fast-food versions are just enhanced versions of classic recipes.  Yes, by making the "imitation" versions at home, you will be getting a fresher version, but you may not necessarily be getting a healthier one.

IDOL SPOO!

TMZ.COM (http://www.tmz.com/2008/03/19/kristin-davis-sex-pics-ex-bf-sold-her-out/)

Quote
"Idol" Voters: What You See, Not What You Get

If you voted for "American Idol's" Michael Johns last night, you could have been influenced by a performance that was never even in the show.

At the end of the show, just before the voting began, Ryan Seacrest threw to a tape with highlights from the contestants. Michael Johns actually seemed better than when he sang earlier in the show. Fact is, it was better, because producers used Johns performance from his rehearsal earlier in the day.

Interestingly, after Johns performed live on the air, Paula remarked that she heard Johns during rehearsal and he had been a lot better then. So voters were left with the impression Johns was better than he actually was.

Ditto David Archuleta the week before, when he forgot the lyrics to "We Can Work it Out." When "A.I." played the highlight tape at the end of the show, David was seen during his rehearsal, when he was much better.

"Idol" tells us the entire montage at the end of the show is of rehearsal footage -- they simply don't have the time to turn around that video using live performances.

Shades of Iron Chef America!

They've been doing that for years.  Although I do have to wonder with the statement that "AI" compiles the complete montage from the rehearsal footage.  It used to be that any one who sang in the final two slots of the episode had footage used from their dress rehearsals - it would just require too fast a turn around to get the "last" clips into the final montage.  I still remember one clip from a few seasons back that was vastly different from the live performance.  They would have to have one version of the wrap-up montage already put together before they go live just in case something goes wrong with the taping. It's insurance.  -Perhaps DR edisaurus may have a better insight on this topic.

In any case, I'm sure most voters know who they're going to vote for even before the show ends.  Heck, some know who they're going to vote for before the show even begins.  I don't think those final clips could sway that many vote(rs).

 :'(

I hope things sort themselves out in a positive way for you...and us!

I believe you are correct, DR Jose. Some of the footage in the final montage is from "live performance" of the early placed singers. Later singers have footage of dress rehearsal inserted. It has always been this way. Nothing nefarious about it. In the case of Michael Johns, there may have been a problem with the live footage and they had to use the dress rehearsal stuff. Would any vast number of people base their votes of those few seconds of performance? I doubt it.

I concluded my afternoon with today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, Luke and Noah were on, and things are happening just as I predicted weeks ago as Noah begins taking a REAL interest in his new wife. (New wife looks to have eyes for another, of course. That, I didn't see coming. I figured she hooked Noah for some grand scheme of her own.)

They were not featured in previews for next week. (The show is preempted by basketball starting tomorrow.)

It is very difficult for me to listen to NEW recordings of shows that I have been listening to for a long time....and these performances have become the show for me....

So....I liked THE DROWSY CHAPERONE because it was the KIND of show I like....but it was NEW!!

At the time Nell Carter passed away, she was set to star in a production of the musical RAISIN, and there was much talk then that the production would have a future if it were successful - but of course, it was contingent on her name being attached as star.

I am certainly not saying anything negative about Nell Carter's talent.  Anyone who saw her in AIN'T MISBEHAVIN knows what a dynamic performer she was onstage.  However, I don't believe that just because Nell was black, that she would have been a perfect choice for RAISIN.  Also there was a lot of talk in the last years of her life about her diva complex that required no direction.  You would have needed a strong director to reign her in for that show.

RE: the muffins. They were just banana muffins (no filling). But the mini muffin tin was so small. It was very hard to fill them without having them be too big and touch their mates.

As for the imitation recipes. They are not actually made the same way. They are just made to taste the same. So they don't have all the extra crap the chains put in them.

TCB - I have no idea how Nell Carter would have been in RAISIN, but here's a Playbill article which seems to suggest that the show must at least have been cast and ready to rehearse (if not in rehearsal) at the time of Nell carter's passing.

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/77513.html

Fred, I wasn't doubting the casting of Miss Carter in ths show.  I remember them talking about that when she died.  I was just saying that I don't see her in the role of the mother in that show.  Just my personal opinion.

My apologies to one and all about my light in the loafers line.  It wasn't meant as an insult to the dancer whoever he may be.  I was merely responding to the photo with the usual gay stereotype.

However, I do not think that masculinity has anything to do with sexuality.  I have worked with a great many dancers in a lot of shows over the years; and I found almost every one of them to be extremely masculine, regardless of their sexuality.

"Boreal" is one of the sculptures on the grounds of the Hunter Museum of American Art (http://www.huntermuseum.org/) in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Alas, the museum was closed by the time I got there after playing auditions all day, but the grounds were still open.

When I first saw this sculpture, I thought, "Oh, cool!"  Then I read the placard and thought I was looking at the wrong sculpture, but I still wasn't sure which sculpture it was talking about.  I kept looking for something made of bronze, and Boreal was made out of wood.  Well... After reading the placard a bit more closely, and then tapping, touching the sculpture, I realized I was looking at the right sculpture.  Cool!!

'Biggest Loser' SPOILER

Xtradition for Xtrastupid Xtras  This is spoiler spoilageto preventnoninterest singdavian readers from spoiling their viewings of biggestloser should they actually be spoiling to spoil such viewings.  stringclawcanbitchslapwhoevergets in hisway.  Last night's "Biggest Loser" started with the expulsion of another player, voted on last week and saved for our viewing pleasure last evening.  Dan had two votes (his prize for winning a challenge).  He cast them both for Maggie, as did Roger and Ali.  Kelly cast her vote for Brittany.  Mark and Jay also voted for Maggie and the deal was done.

The next sequence had the seven competitors going to a local Macy's where they thought there might be some sort of challenge involving moving stock or  something.  Instead,  they were told they were going to get a makeover with new clothes for their new bodies.  And to help them they brought in Tim Gunn,  fashion guru best known to America for his work on Bravo's "Project Runway."

He met with each of the men and women.  He had done his homework from the show's personnel files and was able to hook them up with looks that best-suited them.  They also got makeovers from a hairstylist named Gabriel (!) and then did a fashion show.  As each showed off his  or her look, they were greeted by a family member at the end of the runway. There was much happy happy and hugging and a bit of snogging (but  no canoodling).  Mark, especially, had  an emotional reaction to seeing his wife and he was in major "tears".  We've seen this from Mark before when he had to convince his team to send him home three weeks ago.

I've read  some negative remarks about this crying by  Mark.  It made me a little uncomfortable, too...but not  because he was crying.  It was because he had been home two weeks ago and saw his wife last just one week ago.  It's not as if he'd been away from her for months!

Everyone also got a $1,000 Macy's gift card!

The next challenge had treadmills turned the wrong way around on a steel beam across a pool.  Each player had to walk backwards on the treadmill with the beam suspended over the water.  As the challenge progressed, the beam was raised, as was the "tilt" of  the treadmill which made it much harder for the contestants.  The last two were Mark and Ali, the two who had returned to the competition from the week before.  Just after one hour had elapsed, Mark let Ali know he was good to go on...and she dropped into the pool.  Mark's prize was a weeklong stay for  two at a spa in Utah.

After the competition, Mark apologized for seeming hellbent on winning so much (he has won more than any of the others).  Later, he apologized again with his former blue team  members and Bob sitting together.  Roger strongly took him to task for apologizing and told him there was nothing to apologize for...that he was a competitor and a good one.  Mark, sensitive to the fact that in the first couple of weeks his competitiveness made him a target for elimination and caused resentment, responded angrily to Roger.  The last-chance workout did not go well for Mark because, as Bob said, he was distracted/disturbed at his blowup at Roger.

At weigh-in, all went as expected with Brittany a sure bet to fall below the yellow line with only two  pounds lost.  Jillian had added sodium to her diet to try to force her body to lose more weight "later on" (i.e. next week, if Brittany could hold out one more week), and Jillian admitted it might backfire, which it did.  Kelly was, to her delight, safe with a really decent loss of 5 lbs.  Mark, Dan, Roger and Ali also did well.  Marks' brother Jay, however, didn't fare well.  He lost only 3 lbs...same as his brother.  But Jay weighs more than Mark and the three pounds was a lesser bodyfat percentage than was Mark's.

Allison, the hostess, told the trainers to say goodbye to their teams and then leave the building.  There was a very emotional  scene between Jillian and Brittany.  I'm sure Jillian was certain Brittany was a goner.  She left in tears.

During the hour she had before votes were cast, Brittany tried her best to sway male votes her way.  She especially appealed to Dan to use this opportunity to get rid of Jay as a potential threat. Later, Dan addressed his need to consider voting out the other guys in a solo camera confessional.  He chose, at the end, however, to stay true to his alliance.

Ali, who owed no loyalty to Brittany, cast her vote to send Brittany home. She was never a member of Jillian's black team. She owes Jillian the best she can do and nothing more. I doubt she was thinking that if she voted out Jay she would be safe for yet another week. Voting off Jay would mean Brittany and Kelly, more than likely, would be below the yellow line next week. That's not certain, though. Jay has had bad weeks, Kelly and Brittany have had good weeks. Mark has obviously had a bad week (and went home). Any one of the men can falter, especially with the shrinking numbers of players.

Personally, I'm glad Brittany and Maggie are both gone. Both are major-league whiners who have exulted when their team won the weigh-ins and pouted and complained that things weren't fair when they didn't win.

I think the folks who remain in the game deserve to be there -- for their hard work, for the extra training they'll get as a result, and for the seldom-seen opportunity to see the "best man/woman" win the day at a weigh-in. There's no glory in winning over dead-weight competition, and those boys -- and Ali, too -- are "competitors."

As for Kelly, we'll see. She's had the most to lose and she's got a lot more she can lose. She could turn it up and oust Ali if she really tried. She is talking the talk. Can she walk the walk for another weigh-in?

And for the record: We never saw Bob in tears when Jillian's black team last year beat the snot out of Bob's team, leaving Bob with no one in the competition at the end.  Jillian has never been in a position in which her team was on the verge of total elimination.  It has to be tough.  She now has Kelly, her least favorite of her former team, and Ali, who was never on the team.  Sxfkj;jl; j ej singdaw eats coleslaw through a straw ..XSkdkdldkjlkjl;akj;lkja;lskjf;lkj;lkjasfd;lkjasd;lkjas;lgkjd;slkj   .

I played Zoltan Karpathy for one performance, when our Zoltan had a previous commitment.

I decided (since I was the director) that Zoltan was Hungarian, and that he would of course speak with a Hungarian accent.

By the time I announced I was wearing my "decowations for wanguage", I was the hit of the show.  The cast was also having a great time, and were not happy when our dour Zoltan returned the next evening.  Of course the actual Ballroom scene is cut in many versions of MFL.....and when it goes, so does Zoltan, except by reputation.

I realize I am coming into this conversation at the end, and haven't read all of today's posts, but I totally agree TCB. Gender characteristics such as masculinity/femininity generally have little to do with one's sexuality. It's something I discuss quite often in the workshops and presentations I've been doing.

Tonight's Pay-What-You-Can performance of Side Show went quite well.  There weren't as many in the audience as I would've thought, but they were quite responsive.  They liked it!  We have performances Thursday and Friday nights, then two performances on Saturday because Sunday is Easter and I'm going to see Mamma Mia! :D

Four minutes left to ask BK!

Question!

What Broadway musical is crying out to be made into a movie?

Brett

I've always thought with the right director and cast The Most Happy Fella would make a wonderful movie - for years I thought Coppola should direct it up in wine country.
