Well, you've read the notes, the notes went to Wellville, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently in Gonesville.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I think I'm feeling better.

I'm realizing - and remembering - just how dry the air is in my parents' house.  -At least in comparison to what I'm used to in my apartment in NYC.  The past couple of mornings I've woken up with a not-so-nice feeling throat, as well as some "interesting" sinuses; then coupled with my allergies/cold/whatever, well...  -I felt a lot better when I was out last night - and there was a lot of smoking at the bar too, so... We shall see...

DR FJL - The "Project Runway" Season Finale was on at 9:00pm, 11:00pm and midnight last night.  I managed to stay awake during the 11:00pm broadcast.  I think.

Of course, I sort of got "spoiled" from some friends' Facebook status updates, but I was in such a fog last night, I didn't realize they were mentioning the winner.  I thought they were all talking about one of the candidates wives or daughters.  ;)

Good morning, all! I stayed with CNN through midnight after the convention and so I missed the PWOJECT WUNWAY finale. since Bravo reruns these things into the ground.

Today, I have to deal with the problem of no wire transfer yet from Calfornia. If the money hasn't landed by 10:30, I'll send an email, but I worry that they'll not pay is till next week, which they've pulled before.  Another major reason why I would like to see that closing of sale in Ohio.

I'm also thinking of asking my two brothers to buy out my third of the property before I offer it to another agent. I'm sure my dad's reasons for this last-minute transfer were to asceertain we'd all get an equal third and it would be his beyond-the-grave manipulation to keep us all "together" since he was aware of all the bad blood going on before he died. I also believe he knew that I would prevent the Macbeths from beating up on Randy, which occurs regularly. However, since I have no wish to ever associate with the Macbeths again, there's no identity for me with that side of my family, and I really don't want to hang onto a piece of land 500 miles from my living space, paying taxes and insurance on it till it (hopefully) sells.  If I get out of it ASAP with $200,000+ I'd be more than happy, and if my brothers sell it in two or three years for $1,000,000, more power to them. Right now the lands assessed at about $275,000/acre and we have about 3.5 acres, and no one's been calling with inquiries for over six months now. With the market as it is, it could be years before it sells.

THE CAT AND THE CANARY (silent)
FRANKENSTEIN and THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (James Whale)

Hello from Austin, TX.

Horror movies?

I think that the fantasy movies that I recall from my youth are more sci-fi than horror.

THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, THEM!, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON come to mind, as does HOUSE OF WAX.

Later favorites include THE CHANGELING, STIR OF ECHOES, THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, THE EXORCIST and THE SIXTH SENSE.

Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my film, THE DOORWAY.

On tv tonight: Survivor! (yeah!).

RE: libraries.  I use mine A LOT. I go once or twice a week. That is how i've been reading everything lately. It's pretty convenient (only 5 minute drive).  Right now we can check the online catalogue at home. But we cannot reserve that way.  That is okay. Although most libaries here have the same services you guys described (being able to do most from home).

My library was supposed to do that this past september. Only the whole system failed and there was a huge mess. So we are back to the old way for a while. With the new way we will be able to renew books online. And have books put on hold. And even them email us when our books are due.

DR Jose is the ICU really that strict about visiting hours?

I guess each hospital is different.

When i had a relative in the ICU a couple years ago even though there were strict times listed they would allow 1-2 people basically at all hours. As long as you were good.

I'm curious re: the pudding cups.

Do they have the same calories/fat grams as if you made the pudding yourself (which i assumed was what the original poster was talking about). Somehow i just assume that if you make the pudding yourself that it would be more diet friendly (although then you'd probably eat more since it would not be portioned).

When i want a delicious diet-friendly snack i make lite-jello, and put a spoon of frozen whipped topping on it. And sometimes a few strawberries.

Moo moo, oink oink hee-haw marjorie daw, singdaw's sister I guess.  After seeing the runway show in action last night, I have to say I'd have been fine with any of the designers being declared the winner.  I never thought I would ever be one to defend Kenley, but I have to say I think the judging panel was a bit too narrowly focused on Kenley's hand-painted fabric and not on her designs.  So what if other designers had a line of all hand-painted fabrics a season or three back?  Do they own a copyright on handpainted fabric?  No...it's been with us for centuries.  So if Kenley's fabric was the issue, why wasn't ALL fabric an issue since ALL designers use fabric.  No...it's DESIGN here that matters and not whether it's handpainted or uses feathers (Chris March used feathers last season, too).  In truth, I rather liked Kenley's collection better than the others.  SUE ME!  I also liked Laura Bennett's collection better than Michael's or Jeffrey's two seasons ago....but I couldn't stand Laura, so I was happy Jeffrey won!   I liked Korto's collection, but I wasn't wild about her fabrics.  And NO ONE mentioned the obscene shortness of that ultra-mini skirt?  REALLY?  Oh, my!   Leanne was a good choice and she had some wonderful elements, but Michael Kors was right about those petals (I think Leanne thought of them as "waves") being a bit too much.  Still, she showed great versatility and variety in her line and she was a deserving winner, just as either of the other two would have been.  IMO, of course.   Don't snark me, I'm skittish!  What was that?  You fiend!  Slapjaw, snapdraw, scrapclaw!  I'll blame Jose.

Bruce, I'm glad you are feeling better.  Laura is not (probably the same thing you have--- that sinus infection/cold/allergy thing -- it's all around the country.

TOD:  I loved "Poltergeist" and "Dead of Night."  There was also a made for TV movie called, "The Paper Man" which frightened me to no end.  Most films that scare me are more suspense rather than horror.  "wait Until Dark" probably fits into that category and practically gave me a heart attack.  One viewing was enough.

Health and happy vibes to all-- the world needs them!

"Somebody" has posted the following to the Technical Support section of the forum with subject line:  Changing Avatar Size for New Forum.  Folks can be referred there in future:

-At the top of this page, click on Profile.

-Then along the left hand side of the page under "Modify Profile" click on "Forum Profile Information".

-Click the "dot" next to "Personalized Picture", then scroll down the list to the right and select "FredPassport" (or the avatar of your choice).  Your "full-size" pic should appear in the preview.

-Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Change Profile".

No, because even if they had processed it on Tuesday, the transfer would have happened by now.  I hate being in cash flow hell because of property closing, inconsiderate employers and, much as I appreciate the kindness of the people I'm waiting to repay, I just want to know I can afford to make a living from the work I'm hired to do. The fact that I'm now out of my diabetes meds, cannot even afford to refill a prescription or pay the rent because I'm waiting on funds is infuriating beyond belief.

But, DR Laura....Willy Wonka had rules.  Children who disobey rules cannot be missed.

Surely it's as potent as a Grimm tale in original context..."Be good or else."

As for the uninterrupted tour through the factory, that was the point, too.  There was no other reason to be there THAN to tour the factory.  Why should anyone who has been good and followed rules be denied the tour that they won?

I had a great time meeting with my friend, Lisa, this morning at Panera.  -And the "Pink Ribbon" Bagel is really damn tasty!  Besides answering a couple of questions (the interview part), it was also nice to hear about all the theatrical things that have been happening in Richmond over the past couple of years.  There have been the usual 'downs' associated with the Biz, but there seems to be quite a nice upswing in the community lately towards fostering the local talent.  :)

DR Jennifer - My mom was in CSICU - Cardiac Surgery ICU.  The "regular" ICU units there have standard visiting hours, but the CSICU is "restricted" due to the nature of the patients in there.  -It's basically the "first recovery" unit for anyone who's just had any sort of open heart surgery.

YEAH!!!

My Dad just called from the hospital.  They're just waiting for my Mom's recovery room to be readied for her.  However, since this morning, she's already had a brief session of physical therapy, and she took a walk!  She should be in her room by 6:00, and then I'll head over for a visit.  :)

I told you they'd have her walking in two days! Excellent. They're probably getting pressure from her insurance about getting her out of there ASAP.

Hmm.. The only thing that comes to mind is Phoebe Damrosch's "Service Included" (http://www.amazon.com/Service-Included-Four-Star-Secrets-Eavesdropping/dp/006122815X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224186351&sr=8-1).  -Which just came out in paperback.

Well, she probably won't be leaving the hospital until Monday or Tuesday, so... And then her battery of rehab and therapy starts up too.

*And I'm seriously considering clearing and cleaning out the fridge and pantry here tomorrow.  It's not exactly what you would call a "Heart Healthy" larder.  -And after the "stuff" that Mom neglected to tell her doctor during her pre-op interviews, well... We'll see.  -I also have another week off in two weeks, and I think I'll back down here again to check in on things.

I was going to watch PROJECT RUNWAY when I got in from lunch, but the Private Screenings interview with Angela Lansbury was airing on TCM, so I watched that instead. I had seen it before, obviously, and wish it had been two hours because Angela could have filled it with stories about films, TV, and stage work they didn't get around to talking about much if at all.

Next, I watched the first Mizoguchi film in the box set: OSAKA ELEGY. It's a 1936 melodrama, not really all that interesting for me except to see his style and some interesting shots. The Eclipse DVDs haven't been cleaned or processed like a full-blown Criterion release, so this old film was filled with scratches and dirt and damage, and the soundtrack was full of hiss and crackle.

In the half hour I had left, I began PROJECT RUNWAY, I got through the fashion show, so here are my thoughts:

I liked Kouto's show the best. I loved the designs, the mix of long and short, and the bold colors really caught my eye. I liked every single piece in the collection

LeAnne's look was soft and flowy, but I found the continuous "waves" monotonous. Unlike Rami's draping last year which showcased interesting designs and fits, the designs here got overpowered by those floppy, ruffly waves on almost every single piece. I'd say about six of the looks I found really appealing.

Kenley's show was a riot of color, but I didn't find it appealing. Eye-catching yes, and as demonstrative as clothes as she is as a person, but I only liked two of the designs out of the 10 pieces.

I have not heard the judges' comments (though, as I said this morning, I do know who won but not who finished second or third). Those were my picks. Of course, I haven't EVER picked a PROJECT RUNWAY winner, so what do *I* know?
Title: Re: THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE
Post by: JoseSPiano on October 16, 2008, 01:42:04 PM
As for last night's "Project Runway"....

I, too, liked all three collections.  However...

It was interesting listening to the judge's critiques and comments.  -And I had to wonder what comments got edited out.  I felt all the concern over LeAnne overusing those "waves/petals" was sort of unnecessary, since LeAnne did communicate to Tim Gunn that she was inspired for this collection. -And it's not like other designers have ever "themed" a collection.  In fact, that's the norm. And I don't seem to recall her using those "waves" during any of her pieces during the earlier stages of the competition.

As for Kenley's "copy-catting", well, I don't follow fashion that much at all - except for seeing what gets featured in the windows at Macy's and Bloomingdales - but even I recognized some of her unintentional "homages".  And I'm sure she's paged through a copy of Vogue or W sometime in her lifetime, and I'm guessing some of the images she may have paged over probably got lodged somewhere in her mind.

As for Korto's collection, I really liked the variety of it too.  And I thought her "editing" of her collection was a very smart move too.

Back from the mail place and Gelson's.  I got some ribs - the first three were good, but the second three were too meaty for me and I left most of the meat on them.  I had one package - from Optimum Releasing in the UK.  I'd gotten their new DVD of Far From The Madding Crowd a few months ago.  Their original release had been in an incorrect screen ratio of 1:78 rather than scope.  So, we all figured they'd fixed the problem.  They hadn't - despite the box (as in the first release) saying 2.35:1 it was the same old incorrect transfer.  I wrote them a very strong letter about it and they wrote me back after a few days apologizing for their double screw up and they offered to send me some DVDs.  Said DVDs arrived today - two box sets, one a bunch of Jean Renoir films and the other a box of four Agatha Christie films, which I have in region one - I'll check out the transfers to see if they're better.  But, best of all, there was a check disc of Far From the Madding Crowd, this time done correctly.  The film is coming from Warners in January, I think, but the color on this Optimum transfer is very nice, and given Warners track record, unless they're using this exact transfer, theirs will probably be all brown and ugly.

Thanks for all the vibes. Dad is tired and not feeling great, but mom said the stuff he drank did what it was supposed to do so that's a good thing.  They were supposed to go to Joplin to see my sister this weekend and now that they can't my sister asked if they wanted to go for Thanksgiving...and maybe I could drive them.  So, of course I said yes.  I wasn't going to do the family thing, but I don't mind traveling with Mom and Dad and feel much better driving them than having them drive themselves.

My Dad just called from the hospital.  They're just waiting for my Mom's recovery room to be readied for her.  However, since this morning, she's already had a brief session of physical therapy, and she took a walk!  She should be in her room by 6:00, and then I'll head over for a visit.  :)

Thanks to DRs Jane, Jose, Laura, and George for the travel vibes.  We're driving down tomorrow, partying Saturday and Sunday, and driving back Monday.  Actually, my sister will do most of the driving (it's her van) and I'm the navigator.  We'll see how our almost 90-year-old mother and almost 80-year-old aunt (the mother of the groom) hold up.

Then, a week from Monday, I get to take another trip to Wisconsin with Richard and Rob for Richard's graduation from Nashotah House.

No, he's at home and doesn't have to go back unless he has more problems.  Mom thinks he's just tired and cranky today because he was in the bathroom all night and didn't get any sleep.  Now that he's all cleaned out, so to speak, he should recover just fine.  At least that's the plan. I'm really glad they changed their plans this weekend and didn't try to go anywhere, now he can get some rest and get better.

Being the last survivor, and especially since she needs the money to pay for nursing home fees, I would hope that people would bid more than they would under normal auction circumstances.  It's not like a private collector is just getting rid of some stuff and wants to get rich.

As they say...big high and bid often! :D

I finished PROJECT RUNWAY. I would have reversed the first and second place finishers, but otherwise, I was satisfied with the results and with the fashion show itself.

This season wasn't quite as entertaining as last season for me, and I'm glad it's finished for awhile. It'll be nice to take a breather from all that drama and relax into fictional prime time TV shows.

I had time to watch MURDER OVER NEW YORK, another Charlie Chan mystery. I had never seen this one, and I did not guess the identity of the murderer which really disappointed me though I didn't think the clues were presented at all and so it really was just a guessing game with nothing really to base an opinion on.

Back from the event.  I absolutely should not have gone and I knew it the minute I walked into the bar - I felt crappy, my cough was ridiculous, I'm having trouble breathing, suddenly I'm starting to be achy (I thought this was OVER!), and there was air conditioning on in the bar.  It was a nice, crowded event - lots of soap opera people I didn't know (but I met several of them) except for Kevin's co-star on Days, Patrika.  I was photographed on the red carpet (apparently I was considered a celebrity), interviewed for some website, etc.  The minute I got into the bar, a lady approached me with a DVD cover for The Faculty, and asked me to sign it, which I happily did.  I met a few people, saw a friend of Barry Pearl's, but I couldn't have a conversation with anyone because it was so loud and my voice is so weak it was just impossible.  I stayed longer than I should have, mostly nursing a Diet Coke.  After about ninety minutes I took my leave.  Then traffic on Sunset Blvd at eight-ten on a Thursday night was absolutely reprehensible - AND for no reason other than people driving like morons.

You really should never exercise when you're sick anyway.  Your body needs the rest.  Get the rest.  Just make the decision now to sleep in tomorrow morning, or at least just to take it easy tomorrow morning.  -And eat a decent breakfast too.

Everybody took a hike.  I don't have the patience to watch another motion picture on DVD - I watched one earlier and it was LONG.

I'd try to rest a few days if I were you, BK. Let your body recover a little bit.
